I can’t believe the power Trina has over Spencer. When u think about it, she’s the highest thing, if not the only thing, helping him survive in terms of staying at least semi sane despite his bloodline.

Sorry for the late response to this anon but I actually think it's even more fun to answer this after the gallery scene where Spencer refused to really process what Trina was saying lol.

Trina's influence on Spencer runs deep and always has from the very beginning of their relationship. It is not as simple as Trina tells Spencer to do something, and he does it, and it really shouldn't be considering Spencer's history with emotional abuse. But Trina's approval and support is a type of lifeblood for Spencer.

I've been reading up on hero archetypes and the different stages in the hero's journey because I've never really felt like "bad boy" and "good girl" sufficiently summed up Spencer and Trina's characters and what they represent. And I was thinking about how Spencer is kind of obsessed with this tie to Greek culture that the Cassadines have and how he's constantly referencing Greek myth.

In my eyes, Spencer is an anti-hero (a character in the position of a hero that lacks typical heroic qualities) that really wants to be an epic hero (like Odysseus). I really feel a lot of Spencer's frustrations tie into this dichotomy of wanting to be the classic epic hero but having the inclinations of an anti-hero and falling short as a result.

Like most anti-heroes, Spencer's real journey is internal, but like the heroes from the myths he probably grew up reading, he wants to believe that all his problems will be solved by achieving an external objective. Be it "saving" his father from Ava, "saving" Trina from Little Miss White Privilege or "saving" demon spawn from his father. So following this idea that Spencer sort of perceives himself as the protagonist in an epic (yes while still retaining all his self-loathing, he's complex), Trina basically becomes the "goddess" in his eyes.

One of the steps in the epic hero's journey is meeting with a goddess. This "goddess" is supposed to represent a feminine ideal (beautiful, wise, etc.) and guide and support the hero in both his internal and external journey (the hero's journey concept is very male-centered so bear with me lol).

But before any of this can even occur, the hero has to prove his worthiness and earn her favor. Once the hero does so, the union between the hero and the goddess is called a "sacred marriage" (don't start) because of the complementary nature of their bond. It's also referred to as a union of opposites (opposites attract 👀). I thought that tied pretty neatly to the sort of reverent approach Spencer takes when it comes to loving Trina. It also ties into Trina's protective approach to loving Spencer and her refusal to abandon him.

As you said, she is "the highest thing" that is keeping him remotely balanced through his Cassadine trauma. Spencer himself said she "completed parts of [him] that [he] never knew needed to be completed." But because Spencer is still an anti-hero, he is never going to just follow the guidance of Trina, especially when it's guidance that tells him that the hero's journey he thinks he's on is actually just another path toward self-destruction.

But the role that Trina has come to play in Spencer's life both in reality and in his perception is a powerful one and the idea that he would remotely be okay should he ever lose her, especially after they've solidified their romantic union, is laughable.

"Listen kid, I'm fucking busy, I don't have time to haul you around because twiddle dick and dum forgot you at the gas station again."

He has barely looked at you since you got there. The guy who held more merit to you than your own brother was gone.

When you wipe your eyes on the sleeve of your sweater he lets out an exaggerated groan.

He thrusts dirty fingers into his sweatpants pockets.

Pulling out a perfectly rolled twenty dollar bill, he flattens it smooth. He smears his finger along the length of the bill, collecting remnants of a fine white powder, which is quickly shoved into his greedy mouth and rubbed on his gums like he's brushing his teeth.

"Here," he grunts, shoving the drugged money into your pocket, avoiding your eyes at all cost,

"now get

lost."

The blinds on the door are still swinging as you stand there dumbstruck and watery eyed. Low voices are murmured through the thin walls as a lighter flicks and sizzles.

Who was that baby?

Nobody.

And that's exactly who you were to everyone you knew,nobody.”

i just went back and looked at my notes from this chapter and re read this part.

during this time eddie was still dealing with his breakup from chrissy and during that time he went off the deep end. he was clearly doing c*ke and other unmentionables, he was dirty and haggard looking.

[Grumbling and stomping in the trailer is heard. Along with two separate giggles.

The door is yanked hard inward revealing a version of Eddie Munson you’d never seen before. His skin was sunken in on his cheeks, dark circles rimmed his eyes. His once soft features were sharp and lackluster, brooding with ashy shadows and skin that looked like it hadn’t seen sunlight in months.

He looked gaunt and hallowed out, his ribs poking against the cindery color of his skin. The warm whiskey eyes that once danced when he laughed were now gaping blacked marbled, polar and dull.

He speaks but you are too busy holding your breath from the stench of rotting clothes and unwashed bodies. ]

there are actually two girls at his trailer during this time. i like to think they were just doing crazy amounts of drugs and just having wild and really stinky sex.

i never really had any girl in mind other than someone reader wouldn’t have known or recognized and same with them. probably just some randos he picked up at the bar. clearly eddie wouldn’t have been working for rick bc rick fucked chrissy. so in my mind, eddie is involved in some bigger more dangerous kind of people and clearly is just spinning out of control.

If parenting has taught me anything, it is the importance of getting down on your hands and knees and teaching not just facts, but love and enthusiasm for the natural world.

This is my son Q and me. I have dozens of photos like this by now, even though he is just two years old.

Every chance I get, I will kneel down with him and show him the little creatures all around us. Especially when they are frogs. He loves frogs for some reason. No idea why.

It is important that we all see this together. It is beautiful. It is magnificent. We are here. It is improbable to the highest degree. It is fleeting, but it is everything we get. And we can get so, so much of it. If we just get our faces into it and really absorb it.

So that's what l'm trying to do here, I guess. Get all of you to join me in the reeds. And I am so happy to have so many of you along for the journey.

In one of the episodes, Jun mentioned that she wanted to pierce her ears twice. in your version she has already done this?

oh dude you either have memory of a steel trap or someone had a good rewatch recently! But, wow, tbh I do not remember this and in HoM AU designs I only delibarately added earrings/piercings to Kim and Jake to sort of break their design more from their og looks (especially Kim lol, I barely changed her anything xD) but also for practical in-verse reasons. I didnt even think about Jun or anyone else... but you know? I like it, so now she does!

AND now she got 7 of them!!! Some are just simple hoops or studs, but others are magical gem stones for emergencies (small spells and protections), and she can just swap them out when needed.

After you mentioned it, I wonder why out of all characters Jun is like almost the only one without piercings of any sorts? I mean even Lila got a fang earring and she has been human-shaped for like less than a year?? Which led me to a headcanon:

What if Jun's invulnerability is so strong she couldn't even get piercings in a normal human way? So, going with her Mom or her friends to get her ears pierced in a mall was out of the question. She and Jasmine had to enchant a needle/make a spell (or maybe just visit a monster beauty salon), just for her to do it and after they just show up to her parents like: "Oh look Barbara, Michael, I took Jun to pierce her ears, doesn't she look wonderful?'

And later Jun just took the needle/spell to covertly make more piercings with her friends, which Ophelia was more than happy to do. The other three she got a bit later over the years. ;D

comics are super broad and there's not really a wrong way to start I don't think. id say

Look at what you like. Can be comics and it can be other media too: a lot of my inspiration is webtoons, youtube video essays, interviews with dnd actual play ppl, disney animation... ABSORB the things you're interested in and morph it into a brain soup and barf it back out lol. A lot of seeing new content for me is also just discovering what's possible. I read The Lies Of Locke Lamora and was like. WTF NOVELS CAN BE FUNNY??? Look at advice on how ppl make that type of content, try to examine why you like it, and adopt the parts you want

Don't get caught up on the things you don't want to do/have no interest in. Comics don't HAVE to be a certain way, if you're like me and don't wanna spend forever rendering an image you can draw characters that take 10sec 😂if you have only an aesthetic in mind and no story, draw smth that evokes that for you even if it takes hours to paint a horrifying guts monster.

Draw whatever tf you want and have fun. It might take you a while to figure out how you want to draw comics for it to be fun— I didn't land on this style I'm using until like, legit 4 months ago and I've been drawing for years so 👍don't be afraid to change it up whenever you feel like it

Edit: OH YEAH this is more of a side note lol don't get too disappointed if through finding what you like to do it turns out comics isn't it. I went to school for animation and I still love movement, it looks super pretty to me. But I don't have the patience most of the time, I just want to slap a story down lol

You know what? Not to suck up to a rich corporation, but mad respect to Ford if they pull out. I get it that 90% of it is due to the image association and money being lost etc etc, but they did say they hold themselves and their partners to a certain ethical standard, so good for them for keeping their word and leaving their partnership with RBR.

I love Sprina so much. I just really need them to address that literally almost everyone is Spencer’s orbit has emotionally or physically traumatized Trina. From Esme to Victor to Cyrus. And Laura occasionally facilitates it? I loathe Trina’s narcissistic boundary-less momma, but I’m starting to understand her point. Trina keeps getting retraumatized almost every week and has to suck it up. I wish someone on the show would acknowledge that. Maybe only Ava understands it. But SOMEONE, my lawd!

I actually think from the post-nyc "five year plan" discussion to the Cyrus confrontation, and now this last, blowout fight, this element of their dynamic is being addressed because it's at the core of Trina's perspective. I love your use of the word "retraumatized" to describe Trina's experience in this whole demon spawn situation because that's exactly what happened.

She watched Spencer become a team again with the girl who drugged and framed her. And she forced herself to grin and smile through all of it and pretend to be okay because that's what Spencer and his family needed from her. This is why she has concerns about him switching up on her when it comes to Cyrus too.

While Spencer was blissfully hiding from his daddy issues, Trina was put back in the mental space of being the girl walking into a trap that almost destroyed her life while trying to support a guy who barely supported her in return. This is why I'm kind of defensive of Trina's "finally" that pissed Spencer off. Yes, it was insensitive. It was also a completely human moment for a girl who, up until that point, put herself to unreasonably high "understanding girlfriend" standards.

I would honestly describe Trina in this relationship, from the moment that sociopathic mooch moves into Laura's, as holding her breath. She's enduring. But between all the milestones they experience in the NYC trip and being retraumatized by Cyrus' release, I think that "finally" is an example of her losing her martyr resolve and just letting go. Letting herself breathe and be human and be relieved at the idea of having one less trigger perpetually in her orbit. She just did not have it in her to be the perfect support system to Spencer in that moment.

She's been sacrificing to be the perfect support system to Spencer all year. Spencer got used to her being the fixer, but Trina is in self-preservation mode over all the reminders of her being endangered surrounding their relationship. And he's still asking her for more and honestly, for indefinite sacrifice or else. It's all very absurd and trauma-based on his end as well.

The one thing I will push back on in your q is the idea that Trina "has to suck it up". That's what Trina convinces herself, that it's always her obligation to endure for the betterment of the people around her. That it's her obligation to keep her pain as quiet as possible so as to not be a burden. That she needs to be the one to "fix" things. But uh, that's not actually true. That's her savior complex talking and it's her character flaw. People admire her for it, but it's a self-destructive behavior. She never has to do any of it. It's a choice she makes. It's her (kinda unhealthy) way of expressing she cares.

And on the Portia having a point end, that is why I was disappointed by the decision to have Portia be one of the props for the sociopathic mooch. There was something really compelling about Portia being hypocritical, judgmental, manipulative, toxic, and yet still not entirely wrong about the situation her daughter landed herself in.

There was some justification, however warped, for protectiveness as her motivation. This all got undermined when they had her bond with the drugger of her daughter. Now she's just another person Trina can't count on to be on her side.

could you elaborate on the lost potential in the writing of mike and will? its refreshing to see someone be critical in a kind way. the show isnt perfect but that doesnt mean we dont enjoy it!

I mean I feel this isn’t just for them but I feel like in s3 and 4 they definitely could have had more involved plots. Sure Mike came up with the sauna test but the latter half of s3 was basically The El Show, with the Duffers not knowing how to properly implement their non-powered characters in scenes where El has to do her El thing, which happens again in season 4 where both Mike and Will have the narrative equivalent of a side quest which culminates in them AGAIN sitting helplessly around El while she does her El thing. Do you ever get fomo for a character and another story arc? Cause everyday I feel fomo for the Cali crew and think about what could have been had they been in Hawkins. I just can’t help but want to see more of them ya know?

And yes I know that everything is written with a purpose and there’s a reason why its laid out this way, but I can still dislike it, and there could have been a different route to take.

how do you figure isabela and luisa's relationship? It's barely showed on the movie after all.

such an great question! It’s hard for me to decipher what their dynamic would be both pre and post movie as they barely interact but we do get a glimpse into how luisa perceives isabela in the “tale of three sisters” book!

judging from this and what we do see in the movie, my guess is luisa isn’t particularly close with either of her sisters due to how she’s constantly working. She like mirabel seems to see isabela as perfect just the difference is luisa respects isabela whilst mirabel doesn’t. she does notice some things but she never speaks up on them which makes me think her and isa don’t talk much. They don’t seem to have a strained relationship like mirabel and isabela but they certainly aren’t close.

I’d love to see how that changes post movie! seeing how it’s implied none of the madrigal sisters are that close with eachother to begin with compared to how dolores camilo and antonio are!
