09.10.2020 • long time no post!

i haven’t posted any original content in....phew, a year and a half!! during that time i’ve taken my A levels, moved out, completed my first year at uni, started second year, oh and (so far!) lived through a global pandemic?? wild honestly.

thought i’d kick off my return to studyblr with some Chaucer crit and the minutes from my zoom meeting this morning 👩‍💻

spent thursday and friday sleeping and then going to work cause sometimes you just gotta make that money!

today two of my three plans got cancelled so i got to go to a local farmers market + check out a little local bookstore, then spend the afternoon to rest and get a few things done

For those of you who are new…

First of all, welcome! Whether you’re a fellow blind/visually impaired student, or you’re a sighted person that’s curious about the life of a blind student, you are more than welcome here. I try to stay consistent on here and stay updated, but I wanted to address some things that may be helpful to you.

About Me

You can call me Lena. I am completing my last year of high school, and I hope to study music (vocal) in college soon!

Currently Studying

• Paychology

• Choral and vocal music

• Music Braille

• Italian

• Coding (just started)

• Environmental Science

• Braille (fluency and proofreading)

• Braille transcription (my hope is to someday earn my transcribers certificate)

• ASL

Things to Keep in Mind

1. I have a few other blogs (most of them blindness related), which you can check out at my Other Blogs page.

2. If you haven’t already noticed, I like to write in large print and bold. I do this because it’s easier on the eyes, whether or not you’re visually impared. It’s part of my way to make Tumblr accessible! Feel free to “steal” my formats, I don’t mind. If it helps someone, then that’s great!

3. Also note that I don’t use a lot of pictures/images/graphics/visuals. I will post them sometimes, but I can’t guarantee that they will be any good. Instead, I try to add descriptions of my desk, or my journal layouts, or the weather, or whatever. This allows me to incorporate sounds and smells as well, so…yeah.

4. I use a lot of abbreviations, such as BVI (blind or visually impaired, VIP (visually impaired person), and stuff like that. I’ll usually clarify if it’s one I don’t use often, but these are the main ones I use.

5. While I do post a lot of original content, I still include academic stuff that may have nothing to do with blindness. I am a choral music student, so I do post about that, and I’m a bit of a nerd and love chemistry, literature, history and such, so I will include that here, because I really believe that, as a blind person, we should still have interests that may have nothing to do with blindness.

6. Oh, and I am a devout Catholic. It comes up in practically every aspect of my life, I do have a seperate blog for all my Catholic posts, but don’t be surprised if I mention it here and there.

Oh, and for my fellow VIPs…

1. Header is a pale blue gradient with hints of green and purple mixed in.

2. Avatar is a picture of my hand running along a line of braille.

3. I try to make all my posts large print, but I can’t really do that with reblogs, so I’m going to label those as #small print

If you could snap your fingers and be fluent in any language, current or from the past, what language would you choose?

I thought this was ominous at first bcs you mentioned ‘snap your fingers’ and I immediately thought of Thanos but kfjdksjf omg this is such a difficult question bcs I’m someone who really, really loves all languages in this world!! I would definitely say that, if I could be fluent in any language with just a snap of my finger, I would love to be fluent in Spanish or Maori! I’m learning Spanish on my own but I’m not doing too hot bcs it hasn’t been my priority, but it’s a language that truly means a lot to me and I’d love to be able to have a great fluency in it! In terms of why I would want to be fluent in Maori, the Polynesian culture really fascinates me and it always makes me feel so cozy and like I’m home and I’d really love to be able to understand it despite it not being such a common language! Thank you for sending this question, sweets! I hope your weekend has been very lovely! x
