Spreads for the month are complete and Daffodil is nearly up to weight. Been spending most of my time begging my mom to keep her. Something about this foster is special.

intro! (12.15.17)
~ hey guys, my name’s rachel! i’ve finally decided to make a studyblr (at the end of the semester, i know), and i’m so happy to start this journey!
~ i’ll just start off with doing 10 facts about myself to get to know me :)
1. i’m 18, studying criminal justice and political science and california state university, chico!
2. i’m originally from southern california, near LA, and my uni is in northern california.
3. i want to study abroad in london. or france, because i’m fluent in french.
4. i looooove harry potter, hence the blog name lol. (yes i’m a gryffindor)
5. i’ve recently picked up bullet journaling, which is also how i discovered what a studyblr is too! i was looking at pinterest for bullet journal inspo and it took me to a studyblr, and i instantly wanted to make my own!
6. i listen to a lot of older music, especially 70s and 80s.
7. i’m passionate about politics, and loooove bernie sanders.
8. i did theatre all through high school, and still participate at my uni! i love musicals, and some of my faves are rent, anything goes, and heathers.
9. i don’t really follow too many youtubers, but i’m absolutely in love with dodie! her music is cute and fun, and she’s adorable to watch.
10. i love horror movies!

Here’s the 7th and final part of my Studyblr University Orientation Week.
The first day of class is stressful for everyone, even the upper year students. Here are some tips to help make it as easy as possible for you.
Know where you’re going. Check your schedule the night before and know what classroom you’re in. If possible, go to it before the first day so that you know how to get there. If not, look for a map of your campus online (you also may have been given one during orientation).
Pack your bag the night before. That way you won’t be scrambling to find a pencil two minutes before you leave and can instead be panicking about making friends.
Greet the people sitting next to you. They could be potential new friends or study buddies. It may also help you feel more relaxed if the person next to you isn’t a complete stranger.
Look over the syllabus before the first class. That way you won’t be surprised when you find out that the research paper is worth 50% of your final mark.
Wear an outfit that you feel confident in. I know it’s cliched, and you don’t have to pick it out the night before, but wearing clothes that are comfortable/you feel good in may help to relieve some of your nerves.
Your first class will most likely just be the prof going over the syllabus and answering questions about themselves or the course. Don’t worry about knowing everything yet.
There will probably be one smug jackass who acts like they already do know everything. Ignore them. They either don’t know everything and just want to seem smart or they’re a showy jerk. Either way, they aren’t worth your time or anxiety over being smart enough to be here. You’re obviously smart enough if you’re here.
This isn’t a first day specific thing but: For many of you this will be your first time seeing service dogs. This is just a friendly reminder not to touch them without their owner’s permission or talk to them in a cutesy voice. It can distract them from doing their job or even undo the training.
Similarly to the above, this may be your first time meeting someone in a wheelchair. Don’t touch someone’s wheelchair unless they have given you permission to. The chair is an extension of themselves and touching it or moving them without their permission is really rude. (If I’ve said something weird here, please let me know as I am able-bodied.)
Don’t feel scared if you don’t know anyone in your class yet. Most people don’t and they’ll be more than willing to befriend you.
Don’t feel weird about eating alone. Lots of people do it. If you’re worried about looking or feeling awkward, bring a book or look at something on your phone.
Wait a few days to buy your textbooks. Compare the prices of new and used books at your university’s bookstore to the prices of students reselling their old textbooks. You can usually get a pretty decent deal by shopping around online. (You may also find out that something’s only recommended reading)
Find a seat that you like. A lot of the time, particularly in smaller classes, this will end up being your seat for the rest of the year.
Take a deep breath. You’ve got this.

Here’s part 2 of my Studyblr University Orientation Week! The first part of this post may be coming a bit late for some of you who have already started school, but the second half should still help and I know there’s a bunch of you who haven’t moved in yet.
Move In Day
Accept help from the volunteers that are there. They’ll be careful with your stuff, I promise.
It’s okay if you get lost and need to ask for directions.
Your roommate isn’t the only student you need to worry about. Greet your floormates ASAP. These are the people that you’ll be sharing a bathroom and shower with for the next year, and it’s important that you all get along. A good first impression can go a long way.
Your RA will have some sort of icebreaker game prepared to help everyone relax and get to know each other. This is usually optional, but I highly recommend that you go. It’s a good way to meet the rest of your dorm and begin feeling a little more at home.
Take your time unpacking. You don’t need to get it all done in one night: it’s okay if it takes you most of orientation.
Start with your bedding. Having a cozy bed to climb into the first night will make all the difference.
There’s no shame in crying when your parents leave. Everyone else did it too.
Have some sort of icebreaker prepared to get all of your floormates talking. The floor I lived on had six girls on it (we lived in a tower so it was a small floor) and one girl brought non-alcoholic champagne for us to drink the first night. It’s still one of the best memories I have with them.
A lot of dorm room doors have an automatic lock. Find out if yours does. The first person I met in uni was the girl in front of me in line while I was waiting to get my key. She didn’t know this and had locked herself out of her room in the first five minutes.
Bring your student id with you everywhere. This is typically how you’re going to get in and out of the dorms.
The first night will be the hardest. It only gets easier after this.
Dorm Life
I’m repeating a point here, but it really is important: make friends with your floor! These are the people you’ll be around for the next year and they’ll also be the people who will see you at your weakest (kind of a side effect of being right there when you break down over schoolwork). It’s important that you can at least stand each other.
Don’t leave things in the bathroom. You share that space and it’s really rude if half the counter space is taken up by one person’s stuff.
If you’re going to throw a party, keep it down but also let the rest of your floor know. There’s nothing worse than being woken up in the middle of the night by an unexpected party. It also allows your floormates to make alternate sleeping plans if they need to (such as crashing at a friend’s dorm).
Respect quiet hours. People are trying to sleep.
Try to keep your noise to a minimum. If you want to listen to music, either use headphones or keep your door closed. Same thing with watching tv. Close the door if you’re making a phone call, especially if you’re arguing with your parents.
If your hallway’s echoey, don’t stand out there and talk. If you do, everyone will hate you.
People are here to study. Respect that.
Never go into another person’s room without their permission. And if they tell you to leave, leave.
Don’t keep dirty dishes in your room. You’ll get bugs and it’ll smell.
Your dorm may come with a mini fridge or you may choose to rent/buy one. Keep an eye on your expiration dates and buy smaller sizes of products than your family did. It’ll amaze you how little you go through in a week when it’s just you.
Set a timer for your laundry. Nobody likes a machine hogger. It’s also polite to only use one machine at a time, especially if it’s busy.
The weekend is the busiest time for laundry. Do yours Tuesday night.
Take out your garbage regularly. Same deal with your recycling.
If you’re going to get drunk, vomit in the toilet. Not in the sink. And clean up your own vomit. (I’ll be making a longer post about drinking in uni later).
Don’t. Use. A. Microwave. Or. Toaster. Or. Kettle. In. Your. Room. You will set off the fire alarm and the entire building will hate you when they’re standing outside in their pyjamas at 5AM the morning before a big test. In the middle of winter.
Take warnings seriously. I knew a guy in first year who was kicked out of rez for partying too much because he threw a party when he was on probation and thought that they wouldn’t actually kick him out. This includes requests from your floormates to keep it down. They will call the RAs on you if you keep it up.
Be nice to the janitors and meal hall staff.

Back to School Tag!!
Tagged by my pal @colllegeruled !!! :) Do you like your teachers? yesss especially my organic chemistry prof whom I'm pretty sure is legit famous for teaching haha Favorite subject? chemistry :) by the end of the year, I should have some insight as to whether I prefer organic or inorganic chemistry! I like biology-related chemistry for sure Least favorite subject? Multivariable calculus because I don't imagine things very well in 3D What goals/challenges did you set for yourself? Be happy with my grades and be physically/mentally/emotionally healthy! How many classes do you have close friends in? ummm! idk probably none that close haha Something amazing that happened this week. actually starting to synthesize ligands in my lab AND I LOVE IT also I got to see Bernie Sanders but for like 40 seconds tbh Something disappointing/bad that happened this week. sleep troubles :( I had pretty bad insomnia thursday night Any cute new girls/guys you saw? Ye but I think everyone is cute lmfao Gotten in trouble yet? OSEH/OSHA hasn't caught me yet but I wasn't wearing my lab coat the whole time in the lab ~risky~ What kind of stationery do you use? lmao the cheap kind that I can buy with my pre-paid meal plan 😂 How do you destress? By getting all my work done lol? What music do you listen to when you study? Nothing actually, music is too distracting. Love listening to disco in the lab though 😂 Most embarrassing school experience? so far this year? probably something lowkey like forgetting something in the lecture hall and coming back 5 minutes later to get it What motivates you? Physiological needs and a superiority complex, probably. Nah just kidding lmao! Happiness and life satisfaction is what motivates me tbh I tag @studnt for sure lmao and @exploremymindifyoudare @studierx @olivescience :) and anyone else who would like to participate!!
