It took me long to choose characters but I've ended with Elyon, Orube and Yazoo (from FFVII). First, Elyon.

I like her shaggy hairstyle in cartoon a lot! It is a reason for Kane/Phobos to has his hair so wild! But in a comic book her silhouette is much closer to Weira and they're said to be very look alike, so I've came with a compromise between comic and cartoon versions. Her iconic sweater is a noticeable detail too, plus it's purple and purple always gives a magical and mystique vibe.

I'm not gonna lie: as a kid, I've never been fond of her. As far as I know, most fans say the same as I do: she's too sugary sweet, naive, gullible and never had a chance to kick Phobos's ass. But as she's one of the characters in my fancomic In Breach, I followed my commom approach "You can't have a character in your script and feel a subjective grudge towards them". So I started asking myself why Elyon is acting the way she does. And I've discovered а very interesting fact.

Why she WOULDN'T act the way she does?

She is an ordinary teen girl, not the smartest, not the brightest (when it's not about amazing drawing skills that she share with Hay Lin. I mean, come on!). She isn't the most socially successful, as she mentioned in a cartoon "I'm a teenager without friends" (in rus dub). The ordinary "normal" type. Her only stable relationship is with Cornelia and Alchemy. She's so unnoticed that only Alchemy notified the police that Elyon is missing. And Alchemy is not a teacher, just a classmate. A family has disappeared and literally no one (including neighbors) told to police that lights were off for a long time.

Yes, we see Elyon in a background from time to time and she even says a phrase or two. She's not an outcast type, she hangs with the others BUT every time we see her involved it also involves Cornelia who was most likely the one who invited her. And she's always slightly away from the rest making me think she only does this to mix with her surroundings. We never see her hanging with her own company or even a single friend instead of the main heroes or Alchemy (who's also a Cornelia friend). Or Bryan... but it was a sad and short story. We never see her having a long dialogue unless we know who she really is. It's an arguable point tho as the story is about W.I.T.C.H girls and script writers probably were trying to keep a secret of her true nature.

But when Cedric appears! Unlike her furtive parents that always withhold something and Cornelia who's all about herself (with all the respect to Cornelia), Cedric just... listens to her. He shows compassion, non-judgmental approach and sound sincere. With him Elyon feel being special. Not to mention that Cornelia has betrayed her for Will (we know the reason behind it but Ely doesn't).

And then! Bang! Suddenly Elyon becomes THE special. The only one! She's like Harry Potter who got a letter from Hogwarts, like issekai character, the fucking King Arthur, THE CHOSEN ONE! Common people of Meridian are praying on her, servants are ready to perform any caprice, Miranda is being nice and ready to play with her, her older brother is such a sweet and cheerful person who would do just anything for her. She's like Coraline who found the other mother. And this case is actually so good that it should be in a video "How and why people fall for abusive relationship or being lured into a sect".

The only thing she can be accused is being too gullible but she acts as a person who grasps any straw. Who would you choose? Parents who lied to you for your whole life? Fake friends who replaced you with a new girl.

We can go deeper here. Remember the first scene with Elyon in a comic book? She got a low grade and instead of supporting her, her "friends" invent a humiliating punishment to hit on a stranger. Although they know she's quite shy! What a nice company we have here, don't we?

Don't get me wrong, teenagers may show low empathy due to their age. Cornelia isn't a bad person too. She's the most loyal friend one might only dream of! Both in a comic book and cartoon she stays at Elyon's side and refuse the idea of her friend being evil. Although Elyon did a lot in a comic book to be judged. Cornelia risks her own life to get to her. BUT she's still quite an narcissist type. Such people attract very specific friends: those who always stay in their shadow, never a threat or a competitor. You can see others confronting her in either passive-aggressive form or trying to show her a place like Irma does. But Elyon was with Cornelia since they were small kids. I have a theory that Elyon actually wins from it too: she seem very "normal" by hanging with a popular friend who would invite her to every party. And literally no one can say no to Cornelia, right? And Elyon seem present in the society. And at the same time she actually isn't.

So here's the whole picture: Elyon isn't a scapegoat outcast like Martin, she isn't labeled as "odd" like Hay Lin. BUT she's not a successful either. She's a blank one, that average conformal person that does their best to suit "normal" standarts. She's short on social contacts, she's breadcrumbed by Cornelia and has no friends outside her pack. As we remember, Alchemy is also Cornelia's friend. Both Browns are hideous, insanely quiet people who made a very, very isolated, incapsulated family to the point that no one even notices their absence. They do their best to lay low and they teach Elyon to act the same way (we know why, but it's quite unhealthy thing you know). I bet Eleanor is quite unhappy with Ely's marks, but I'm not sure if she's strict about it. She's been shown as a good parent in both comic and cartoon. Although the way Elyon agreed to throw them in prison in a comic so easily is something that keep my brain buzzing.

Sooo my idea is that her reliance problems has started long before the cartoon events. Her social contacts never worked properly to begin with and that's why Cedric got her so easily. Not to mention his speech skills. Elyon was a quiet, shady kid with a certain tendency for escapism. Drawing on her level is quite a specific trait that requires a lot of time spend alone and some wild imagination. I think while she never shows this in a cartoon and probably suppressed it, she was really envy of Cornelia, Irma, Hay Lin and even Taranee having huge and nice families, lots of friends and being very bright people. While she's... on the sidelines. There's a thick wall of white lies between her and her parents. She's... no one. Only Cedric shown her what being heard and important is.

Although all the above is cool, it makes her a bit bland to my personal taste. So in my AU called In Breach I given her a bit salt and spice by returning her some of her comic characteristics. I see her as a stalker type, very jealous and vengeful, but too afraid of showing aggression and staring a feud. She would write some really nasty fanfiction about her foes and spread rumors, make ugly caricature on Grumper sisters. Might even play a nasty prank on someone if she can get away unnoticed. But nothing violent, just humiliating.

So, imagine this lost envious girl stumbling across another narcissist. Different from Cornelia, quite a violent type. The one who seem to be afraid of no one. Like, literally not a single person can tell him what to do - even the police (on a first glance. In reality, he's afraid of jail as fuck). The one who questions the moral, the normality, the good and evil. AND telling her this is what she can and should be. WELL WELL WELL WHO COULD THAT BE)

Also, a song that must be a soundtrack for her kicking Phobos's butt in a cartoon.

They’re prepared to investigate their own amnesia, but then weird things start happening at The School; weirder than usual. A guest speaker in homeroom shows up dead! Petty theft rages the halls and claims a student’s head! Is there a sinister plot in place for Prom? Why can’t students explore the rest of The School? Adventure! Teenage drama! Heartbreak! Robots! What would your one word of advice be for any fallout writer?

self-motivate.

i know you asked about fanwork specifically but if you're going to do anything creative, do it because you like doing it and you want to do it and/or you want to get better at doing it. external validation and attention is nice, everybody wants eyes on their work, but restraint and patience and appreciation for the intrinsic joy of creation will go a long way. being your own primary audience will make you much less mentally ill than desperately chasing notifications, and audiences can be very fickle; especially if you want to take passionate risks with your work then you have to be prepared to alienate people who just want something familiar and comforting (being friends with a couple other like-minded sickos is also great because their thoughts and feedback will always matter more to you than a stranger's). recognize if and when it's not fun for you anymore or doing more harm than good, assess why that is, and either change your process or take some time away if you need to (IKROAH was on hiatus for like eight months last year for this reason).

i make a fancomic because i like drawing and i like making comics and building off the foundations of FNV let me make a comprehensive story relatively quickly that i now get to just make comics about, and making these comics is intrinsically rewarding for me to do as an artist, and making these comics has also helped me develop a process with rather low stakes and made me a lot better at making comics in general and given me a lot of skills that i've taken to my original work. this is sort of a utilitarian way of looking at why i like making my comic but i cannot stress enough that it is also just fun and enjoyable without feeling like a waste of my time or like something i'm stagnating in. every issue of ikroah is a project to me where i try to experiment with my style or push my limits and that results in a really rewarding loop of artistic development, on top of the inherent pride i feel about telling a good story.

oh and for fallout specifically i think another thing i would suggest is to just do what you want. change shit for the sake of changing shit just because it's more fun to write or it works better in the story that you're trying to tell. if you're writing fallout fanfiction then consider that everybody reading has played the game already so the last thing you should do is be recounting in-game dialogue verbatim. anyone who hasn't played the game won't know you changed anything, anyway.

oh and also i think that the best thing that anyone making fanfiction can take influence from is literally anything other than other peoples' fanfiction. diverse and esoteric inspirations in fanfic or even original fiction are important so that you can avoid a sort of creative incest situation where there's a far too small gene pool of influences and references, resulting in work that's hollow and derivative and, worst of all, completely bereft of evidence of the individual taste, personality, and experience of a unique author.

There is an "artist" in the hyspanic side of the art internet community that reminds me so much of Vivziepop:

Her name is "Angel de la verdad" (Angel of truh in spanish, wich is a very ironic name lol), and she is know for being a grown ass woman (she is almost 40) that acts childish and cant take criticism.

People started making fun of her because she would react badly to any kind of criticism; she would make big tantrums every time someone made a video criticising her work and would send her fans (all of them being literal children because she made videos about sonic, undertale and other things that were popular between them) to harrass and attack them, then negate that she did that. She would also claim that those who have any little negative opinion on her art were haters and would call them childish insults like "rats" and encourage her fans to do the same.

One day she got mad beef with a literal 14yo boy cuz he made a video saying that her Sonic fancomics were cringe, and that made her so mad, that she took down that video, made several video directs making fun of that child, made a drawing where she potrayed him as a crying child while she was scolding him, told lies about how he was harassing and stalking her when she was the one doing that, and even threaten to doxx him because she got his personal information.

She became a very hated figure, in every video she uploaded you would see she had like 40k views but only like 10 comments cause she would erase any "hate" comment calling her out, only keeping the ones made by her bootlickes that couldnt be over the age of 8.

I remember she even did a video "debunking" her acusations, and in the part of the doxxing she said "i never said i would leak personal information of that child! I just told him to behave, and to not give his information to strangers!" Thing that is obviously a lie. She also showed screenshot of personal conversations she had with him "proving" that he was harrassing her, but they were basically her insulting him and he responding with "lol ok".

The latest thing i knew about her is that she posted on twitter that she would sue some youtuber who made a video on her revealing all the things she did, she claimed that the video was "defaming" her and that she already got a lawer. That was about a year ago and nothing happened, so i guess it was all a lie lol.

Viziepop reminds me a bit of her, in the sense that she is also over the age of 30 and still cant take criticism in a mature way. Maybe she doesnt openly insult her "haters", but she inderectly encourages her fans to be horrible people to those who dont like her work.

I was thinking, if Vivzie didnt have a reputation to take care of, she would be similar to the lady i talked about, maybe not to the point of doxxing a child, but in the sense that she would post on her social media the links of videos where she gets criticised and telling her fans to attack them, then acting all inocent with "those mean haters were attacking me 🥺 i was just defending myself..."

But she cant do that, right now she is know as "the saviour of indie animation", as a goddess of pure positivity that inspires others and will get her work shown on TV, that behaviour would ruin her reputation in a second.

So now i can imagine her sitting in front of the computer, looking for people who criticise her work. She would get the idea of making a post so her fans attack them, but then she glances at the poster on her wall, wich says "reminder: you have a reputation on the internet, DONT fuck it up". So she just growls angrily, and limits herself to like comments of her bootlickers defending her.

(Also, little fun fact about Angel de la verdad: she has a sister who is EXACTLY like her, a mediocre internet artists who acts childish and throws tantrums in the sight of criticism. Many people used to belive they were the same person with different users, but they have different voices and pictures together so we know they arent, the world is a crazy place).

Here I go again, ranting(TOTK SPOILERS)

I've been seeing a lot of stuff online of people warring about the idea of a sympathetic villain being unwanted/wanted.

Totk is a 100% fantastic Zelda game

The plot is a little... interesting and Link is treated like a stranger which is a tad bothersome but my point is...

It's honestly so funny to me how people think it cringe to want a better written opposing force for the hero to face. Ganondorf being a one trick pony villain is, imo, overplayed.

People simply want depth, nothing weird about it.

There is no substance to any of the wielders of the triforce and honestly I think the developers/writers are missing out on writing a really good story just for the sake of, "take this sword, kill that evil| guy, save the princess" People (including myself) love the idea of characters having more to them. Really wish Totk didn't focus so much on the stones and added more to the idea/ concept of the triforce and how dangerous it really is.

The Tp manga(albeit a little out of place) does such a wonderful job at humanizing such one-note characters | honestly wished the creators tried to do the same thing.

I actually read a cool idea before that the bearer of the triforce of power simply existed as the reset button for Hyrule. Like the big bang, their purpose is to come in, hault the evolution/progress of man, and then the cycle repeats. Nothing inherently "evil" more so a necessary evil that I think touches nicely on real world things.

Also don't mind me being delusional once again cuz my dumbass likes to rant about fictional shit when I get no sleep.

Anyways, while I go back to playing Totk and shit I'll just continue writing my own AU

Alright, enough playing around, I'm going to squid post again. Only this time, it's the story post that I promised I'd make earlier. This is just to get it out to say the least, I'm not planning on dropping everything and making a fancomic or fanfic about this concept. Under the read more if you dare...

So just getting it out there, this story has nothing to do with Splatsville, Inkolopis, or even the Squidbeak Splatoon. It has to do with this medium sized city called Squidburg. Squidburg is a very isolated town that not a lot of people know about. Since it's not fresh enough to flock too, they don't have to worry about too many people meddling in anything suspicious. What suspicious activity you ask? The suspicious activity that the whole town is run by Toppats. Right down to the news station.

See those super fresh dudes? They may seem old school in their fashion (and their age), but they're actually the freshest idols running the news station in this town. The leader of course, Reginald and his Right Hand Man, who no one seems to know the name of... While they run the news as the charismatic idols out in the open, in the seedy alleys, they're running a whole different operation. One that involves stealing, underground splatfests, and of course, illegal weapon exchange. Who's keeping these pesky inklings (and octolings of course, with the occasional jellyfish and shark) from doing their dastardly deeds? Well three octolings of course.

Meet the Triple Threat Splatoon! The superfresh ace helicopter pilot and inventor, Charles Kelpvin! The fiery and fierce inkbrush user Ellie Rosecoral! And last but not least the silent, but oftentimes underestimated Henry Squidmin (not to be confused with Henry Squidman). Together, under Cap'n Shaleforce, a former veteran of the Great Turf Wars, they make an excellent team, on and off the splattlefield. Things get pretty hectic in Squidburg and it's up to these three to keep the Toppat antics down, whether they like it or not!

Charles Kelpvin used to be the most important ace flier and inventor for the Octarian Army, until he was discharged for "reckless conduct". Feeling upset, he wandered the mountains until he came across and Squid Sisters concert and was touched by the melody of the Calimari Inkantation. Since than, he's been working behind the scenes with Cap'n Shaleforce, hoping to help keep Toppat activity (and maybe stop it for good? eh baby steps).

Ellie Rosecoral used to be in the Octarian Army as well, but during Agent 3's fight with DJ Octavio (that's a story for another day), she came into contact with Inkantation as well and managed to make it to Inkolopis, where she was a trendsetter in every capacity. However, feeling tired of trends and such, she wandered into Squidburg and found Charles, who offered her a spot in the Triple Threat Splatoon. And thus one became two...

Henry Squidmin's past is a complete mystery. Some say he was a former Octarian soldier who came into contact with the Inkantation and managed to wander off before he came to Squidburg. Some say he was a former Toppat who was brainwashed into working with the Triple Threat Splatoon. Some say he spent some time underground with a strange organization, even stranger than Kamabo Corp, undergoing experiments before being released into the world. He's a member of the splatoon nonetheless, however, so maybe his past doesn't really matter...

So what's the story here. Well, recently, an inkling by the name of Rupert Price has been running around town recently, asking about another inkling named Dave Panpa...

Maybe he'll find some clues in Squidburg? Maybe he'll run into the Triple Threat Splatoon? Or maybe he'll into some trouble with the Toppats? Who knows?
