Hiii I finally finished and uploaded my submission to itchio! Please consider checking it out if you like demons, branching storylines, and watching mean men get beat up by said demon lmao

A short Dark Fantasy game made as a submission for the Spooktober 5th Annual Visual Novel Jam, being worked on during the month of September.

This game is set in an already existing universe, but can be experienced as a standalone story.

Game made in Ren'py

Roughly 6.2k word count

About 30 minutes of gameplay

5 different endings

A Trick and a Treat: Dead Letters (and one other)

We're very excited today to release our entry in the 2023 Spooktober VN Jam, A Trick and a Treat: Dead Letters (and one other)! This is a short, free kinetic visual novel comprised of two short stories!

The first is a creepy little story called Dead Letters, where a man working in a post office opens a letter he was never meant to read and discovers something he shouldn't.

The second is a silly story called Vamp Me!, where a young college student named Jen returns home after a Halloween party to find an unexpected sight waiting for her.

Featuring character portraits by @alexidv, this VN is a bite-sized treat perfect for the Halloween season! We hope you give it a try and enjoy it!

If there's anything more horrifying than being in close proximity to a bunch of strangers, it's having a big exam right after Halloween.

Somehow our little spooky competition turned into a monster in its own right, something people have been making plans over for months.

You know who you are.

When we first started the Spooktober VN Jam 5 years ago, it was little more than a handful of entries I played by myself. The next year was too many entries for one person to read in a month. Last year in 2022, there were over 150 visual novels, with as many shortlisted submissions as we had total submissions in the first year, and over 20 of which had voice acting.

The scariest thing about Spooktober isn't even the freaking entries. It's the sheer volume of fanatics waiting to get started.

But!... I'm not judging this year and I enjoy torturing other people, so feel free to join the competition this year and help me bully Ari.

I've been looking forward to this... but overnight, our free Halloween visual novel, A Trick and a Treat, finally crossed over 100 downloads! This is a really big milestone for us, so thank you everyone! If you haven't tried out our small, two-story compilation, feel free to give it a spin at the link above!

With the recent announcement of the Winter VN Jam 2023, I want to reiterate something I posted in a devlog; we're going to be making a sequel to the second, silly short story, Vamp Me!, for the jam! It's going to be a very fun, Christmas themed adventure where you'll see what Jen, Erica, and Girl Dracula are up to... so if you're wondering what happened to them after the ending, you won't be waiting long! Sadie and I are writing this one together, and we've already started!
