#so really this storyline is an opportunity to /establish/ their dynamic

Hm. Given the things that are happening in Superman 850, I wonder if we’ll be getting a confirmation of whether Lex remembers Kon or not? Because as far as I recall, that question has so far gone unanswered. It would be a very interesting shift in their dynamic if Kon knew more about Lex than Lex knew about him.

I was watching Scott's Last Life finale again and. The shift he went through from "I have to, you killed Pearl!" as he chases Ren down for killing his closest friend, to "Me and Cleo are actually soulbound to ourselves, we've decided," and leaving said closest friend behind. What happened dude??
From a cc pov it makes complete sense. They're just friends playing together and having fun, and the storyline of rejecting your assigned soulmate and teaming up with a chosen soulmate instead is *incredibly* fun. I love the Divorce Quartet, as well as the Secret Soulmates and the Broken Hearts club.
But from a character pov? That's your best friend from a past life, and her being in the nether for a session is enough to abandon her?
I know in Martyn's lore there's no emotions attached to your memories, but that still feels like a massive shift. It's also a part of his lore that I don't use in my personal headcanon, so it doesn't explain the situation for me.
There is one popular fan theory though that I do like, that only the winners remember the past seasons, which at least would explain why Cleo feels no attachment to Pearl in that moment. But for Scott..
There is one idea I came up with. Maybe, the Watchers were angry at Scott for having defied them, and as punishment messed with his head. Maybe, they planted a seed of doubt and anger and resentment towards Pearl in him, taking from him something that had once been a beautiful friendship. Maybe they planted the same seed in him towards Cleo, but it was simply never given the opportunity to grow and fester since they met early on in the season and quickly established a friendly dynamic. Pearl though, was gone for the whole first session, off in the nether with the Watchers' puppet, which was all this seed needed to grow like vines around his heart.
I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sold on this theory, even though it's my own. Having Scott's decision be a result of brainwashing instead of his own free choice takes away from his character. It's not really "chosen soulmates" in this context, is it?
But it's still fun angst, I think I'll accept it as like an AU or smth. There's a lot this would have an impact on, like his relationship to Cleo, his choice to sacrifice himself for Pearl etc, so maybe I'll expand on this

So me and my friend were talking about Savathun and I wanted to have your thoughts about something she said
She said that the problem that she has with Savathun’s character arc is the fact that she feels like it’s pointless for her to have a character arc because it will just end with Bungie saying "She was just evil "
She also said that she doesnt get why people are saying "Savathun was given a chance and still chose her old ways " ; for her it makes sense that Savathun chose her old ways because
1) She is wanted by everyone and she is seen, everyone will kill her on the spot so she needs to protect herself ; 2) Even if she tries to be better, people will still look her as bad (because she hurted a lot of people). Eramis has the support of Mithrax and her Family to be better but Savathun has no one and if she died, except her sister , people will not cry or be sorry , they will just say "Dont cry, the world is better without her " or something along those lines
So she said "if Savathun chose to stay bad, people in Destiny will hate her and if she tries to be good, people will still hate her so she chose the logical option "
Of course, she doesnt deny the suffering that Savathun has caused but she feels like her character arc will just end up with "Savathun appears-> gets developped -> does something so bad that everyone just wants her dead-> Savathun dies -> end with "Savathun was just bad"
Omg I somehow totally missed this message, I'm so sorry for however long it has been lying in my inbox ;o;
I... kinda agree. And I hate that I agree! Because TWQ ended with such potential for a strong redemption arc for Sav, and then Season of the Witch rolled in and went "Oh actually she's been killing her own Lightbearers as a hobby :)" and I don't understand anything anymore. Savathûn, the tactician, the smartass, who hand-picked the Ghosts who'd join her and eventually rez Hive, now running around and killing them for... what? To fuel her training crystals? While she's involved in active war on two different fronts??? Ma'am. I need explanations.
There's no doubt Savathûn is atrocious and has caused enough suffering in the world to balance out thousands upon thousands lifetimes of nothing but good deeds, but eugh. Some of the decisions this season seem to me like the writers were bending over backwards just to show how Evil!!!!! she is, with no rhyme or reason. Yeah sure, show her killing people in gruesome ways!!! Show her fucking with their minds like she did with Osiris and Uldren!!! When it's in character. When it makes sense. I don't really understand why they'd throw away AN ESTABLISHED DYNAMIC between her and Immaru only to show her being mean to her Ghost, so 'she can't be a real Guardian now, can she'.
In this manner, I agree and also fear a little that Sav's storyline is going to be nothing but a cautionary tale of someone being gifted the Light and a second chance and squandering this opportunity, remaining Evil forever. It would be such a waste and I would cry.
The reason for why she chose to stay in her own ways, or at least act like it (and I'm talking here mainly about the events of TWQ, because this season has been very... weird about it?? and I don't yet know where I stand wrt this new info) is in my opinion a bit more complicated. First off, if we're going by the canon timeline, she was a week-old kinderguardian thrown into a full-scale war on two fronts while having to kick Rhulk out, transmutate her throne world, manage a whole ass Brood full of other amnesiac baby Lights, and figure out what the hell her past self wanted her to do to stop the Witness. I can also imagine the Lucent Brood was very volatile in their philosophies and way of life, the Light clashing with the Sword Logic, and just overall, it must've been pure chaos, especially for someone who's fresh out of the grave and doesn't know what the fuck is going on.
Secondly, after she's got back her memories -- the old ways is everything she's ever known. I think the case of her snatching the Traveler is a great example. She says she "will not Take, [she] will give", and it's evident she's trying to wrap her head around the new philosophy, to reverse-engineer it from the spaces between the words on the Tablets of Ruin, but she's still oh so very Hive in it. She will give the Traveler an incentive, a safe haven -- and then she will seal it away to protect it. Disregarding anyone else and any other harm this act might entail. I truly believe she had the right intention! She wanted to protect her saviour and the source of her power from the being she hates most in the universe, who seeks only to hurt and destroy the Traveler and threatens Sav's own survival. The plan made sense. It's the execution that was so sword logic in nature, the sealing and the stealing and the general disregard for the Traveler's wishes and choices, and she paid the price in the end. She messed up royally. She was still stuck in the old ways she'd supposedly rejected.
I'm not sure, however, if the lack of outside support would be any factor here. She's always been a loner. Her way of keeping people at a distance is very similar to Mara's, she's always valued the wiggle room moving so far away gives her, she's always wanted to be free and untethered and to decide only for herself. I don't think she cares no one would cry for her if she died; her main goal is NOT to die, and that's the motivation behind most of her actions, rather than the fear of being alone. I think this is where they differ with Xivu. And yes, she is lonely--I see this particularly in her last entry in Sororicide where she says Xivu has given up on her, and in the fact of how thrilled she is to have Eris and Ikora and us the Guardian as puppets in her little theatre. Riddles are her love language and she's enjoying it tremendously.
To sum up, I suppose, these are the reasons I see behind Sav reverting to the sword logic in some extent, or at least not going Full Redemption after acquiring the Light:
her brood (particularly the Lightless Hive) still being ingrained in the Logic and pushing it a lot
Sav believing Sword Logic to be the more efficient tool and therefore still using it to achieve her goals - so both necessity as well as her own calculating personality
her own habits and a billion years' worth of conditioning she's reacquired when she got her memories back
her drive to stay alive and get out of the whole game (whatever we define it as), and potential fear of death

Monica, you and me both. i seriously hope they don't do anything to mess up what we've going on now. because it's been a perfect streak so far and i really badly don't want it ruined. but i don't really trust thai bls that much. the dad showing up completely uncalled for like that was a little bit of turn off for me in that matter. (cause i dint think that was a very important storyline, barely relevant at all to what we've seen of Day's story so far) and i hope that doesn't take more than 5 mins to get resolved. forced separation my beloathed. i also worry night and day will not be resolved as satisfactorily as i want it to (tho i hear we can trust p'aof on that) as there are only 4 more eps left and it's probably not gonna happen in ep 3. andd. as for one last thing, i also wish and hope desperately we get a bit of a reversal in their dynamic. with day being more of a crutch to mohk than the other way around. you know just to complete the picture on both sides. anyways, manifesting nothing but the best. -Skate
MORE RAMBLINGS AND SPECULATIONS AND PERSONAL WORRIES AND FILMING SPOILERS ABOUT LAST TWILIGHT UNDER THE CUT (just to be safe because i really don't wanna ruin people's excitement with my negativity. im also afraid my nomnom card might get revoked ;;;;;;;;)
i personally didn’t mind day’s dad showing up at the end of episode 8 because he has been mentioned since episode 2 and there’s also been a lot of emphasis on day’s mom being a single mom who raised him and night by herself, so i did expect day’s dad to play a role in the story at some point. i do agree that his introduction was rather abrupt tho, like day bringing him up out of nowhere while talking to mork and implying that songkhla was his hometown was a bit too on the nose imho, i think it could have been done a little bit better, but i’ve forgiven shows for much worse. once again my main fear with day’s dad is that he was introduced just to explain why he and ramon separated hence kind of foreshadowing mork and day also eventually separating, which as we previously established i would HATE
and you know it's not like im against separation on principle, i do think it could work for morkday if, let's say, mork was offered a job he's really passionate about in another town and was upfront about it with day and day told him 'you can't be my caretaker forever, you are my boyfriend, i want us to be equal, take this opportunity and make your dreams come true', because i do also agree with you on the fact that we've always seen mork supporting day and i need to have day supporting mork as well to balance things out a little bit more (not to always bring up vice versa but one of the main reasons i love puentalay is the mutuality and equality of their relationship). if this were to happen, they could still talk to each other on the phone and have mork go visit day over the weekend, they would still have a relationship based on love and understanding which is what their entire journey has been about. if this were to happen, i would become separation nr. 1 fan. i would be ready to print every single word of doubts i've ever expressed about the last 3 episodes and literally EAT THEM. the problem is that even if we're talking about p'aof, i can't fully trust him with not going down the misunderstanding route and not making them broke the promise they made of always holding each other's hands. i know that in bad buddy he made everyone think patpran broke up only to say SIKE, but unfortunately that's not enough to reassure me
the only hope i have is this picture
Tumblr media
which to me does look like a 'mork is torn about leaving for his dream job but day is giving him his full support', but unfortunately I HAVE TRUST ISSUES OKAY. I'VE BEEN HURT BY SHOWS BEFORE. and i can't really explain this shot of mork crying in the trailer unless it's about day breaking up with him
Tumblr media
SO. TRUST ISSUES
day and night's reconciliation is honestly the thing im less worried about because i do fully believe it's gonna happen, maybe not right away because if night was indeed somehow responsible for day losing his sight i think day is gonna need more time, but i think we're gonna see them finally have a proper talk with each other and by the end of it day is gonna leave an opening for their relationship to heal and go back to what it used to be
BUT YEAH IM JUST GONNA BE PRAYING FOR THE BEST THAT'S ALL WE CAN DO

If Billy and Tommy were featured in the recent Scarlet Witch run, what storyline would you like to see them do?
If I were Steve Orlando, my primary goal for Wanda's family would be to set clear parameters for any of her ambiguous relationships, and just give more definition to each character's dynamic with one another. This is not a Maximoff family title, and it's certainly not a Magnus family title, but I do think this would be really helpful for Wanda's character.
To that end, I would be perfectly happy for the twins to just have simple walk-ons, like Pietro in #1, to establish that that they do spend time with Wanda and each other. These characters are almost never on-page together unless there's some sort of crisis, so it would be nice to see them being a part of each other's day-to-day lives.
It would be fun to have Tommy tag along with Wanda on one of her Last Door cases, kind of like Lorna's guest spot in #3. It would give them the chance to talk without necessarily being a high-stakes Maximoff family story. It might be a good opportunity to unpack the emotional fallout of Trial and let Orlando cap that story off with more resolution than Williams was able to. It would also be a neat to see Wanda being the protective one, compared to her dynamic with Pietro. I think it'd be cool if they went to, like, the Dark Dimension or Weirdworld, just to see Tommy zipping around a fantasy environment.
As for Billy, I really, really want him and Wanda to come together and explore what the Scarlet Witch legacy means to them. Ideally, this would be done in a way that properly acknowledges the history and cultural context of witchcraft and witch stereotypes that they navigate as Romani characters. This is long overdue, but it would require a Romani consultant or co-writer. Orlando has partnered with a co-writer for similar reasons on the Thunderbird one-shot, so I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility, and I certainly know Romani writers who'd be interested.
I have about a dozen ideas for how that could go, but I think the easiest way to fit it into a short arc would be to revisit the Witches' Road, a mystical plane from the 2016 SW series that is only accessible to witches. With Billy living in outer space, the Witches' Road would be a convenient way for him to meet up with Wanda and receive magical guidance. The Road bridges the past and present, and winds through different mythical and spiritual realms pertaining to witchcraft. Sending the two of them off on an adventure through this place would give Billy the opportunity to deepen his relationship with this part of his heritage, and that, in turn, would give Wanda a chance to articulate what being the Scarlet Witch means to her now that she has fully inherited her family's legacy.
But do you know who else I'm hoping to see? Luna, and now that she's a older I'd be very curious to see how she feels about magic.

Every so often, I hear people say that Adam Taurus was wasted potential, and I am of two minds about this. While I certainly don't think he needed to be the morally gray revolutionary certain segments of the fandom insist that he was before the evil writers ruined him, I do think he (or, perhaps more accurately, the White Fang plotline as a whole) represents a missed opportunity - namely, he has no connection to Weiss whatsoever.
The conflict between the White Fang and the Schnee family/SDC is central to Weiss and Blake's dynamic in the early Volumes. They first fall out when Weiss reveals her racist attitudes at the end of Volume 1. During this story arc, we learn through Blake how the rest of the world (and Weiss's family/family company in particular) treat the Faunus, why Blake felt violence was the only solution left to her if she wanted to obtain equality, and we learn the effects that violence had on Weiss - the White Fang killed people she knew on a personal level, and her father took his frustrations out on her family. The end of Volume 1 establishes Weiss as an important component of the White Fang storyline and establishes the White Fang as an important part of Weiss's personal narrative.
Other parts of the early Volumes support this: Blake's first interaction with Weiss is dunking on her family company, Lieutenant Banesaw expresses pleasure at the thought of killing a Schnee, Roman Torchwick riles up a crowd, Weiss's big goal is to redeem her family name, etc. and we get more evidence in Volumes 4 and 5, where we see what Jacques is like in person and learn that Ilia lost her parents in a mining accident. All of this is setting up Weiss to be important to the resolution of the White Fang plotline, and yet she never really feels connected to it after Volume 3 at the absolute latest. She gets over her racism with minimal struggle, no one ever bothers mentioning it again (because that plot is done and it's on to the Next Cool Thing), and she and Blake eventually become comfortable enough with each other that Blake casually roasts her.
The reason (or one of the reasons, at least) Weiss feels so disconnected from the White Fang plotline is because Adam is the primary representative of the White Fang we see on screen, and Adam does not give a shit about the White Fang except as an instrument of his own will and power and vengeance, a tool which he can wield to make the world hurt the way it hurt him, something he can use to repay real and imagined slights tenfold.
I always find it funny when people say that making him abusive and self-centered violates his established characterization when:
A) He'd been on screen for like 5 minutes at that point and didn't have much characterization to contradict to begin with.
B) His literal first appearance involves him expressing his willingness to harm innocent people who were just doing their jobs (unless you think everyone who works for a crappy company is complicit in that company's misdeeds, but we see no indication that the workers on the train were doing anything more morally reprehensible than earning a paycheck).
C) His next appearance involves him showing up after one of Cinder's operations cost some of his subordinates their lives and got others arrested, showing no concern for any of them, and confirming that he'll ensure any dissidents fall in line.
D) The only scene that could potentially support the interpretation of Adam as someone that actually cares about Faunus rights takes place when he can't afford to lose face in front of his men. Considering everything else he does during his time as part of the story, it seems pretty clear that he's just posturing in order to maintain the loyalty of his troops.
The Adam his fans want to exist was probably real at one point, sometime long, long ago. He probably did care at one point, given that he was apparently willing to follow Ghira's lead until Sienna encouraged him to employ violence more readily, he started receiving accolades for his ability to kill people, and his newfound standing in a White Fang that was turning more openly to violence in general went to his head, but that Adam was long gone by the time he started playing a major role in the story. By the time Adam mattered to the narrative, everything was about him, not the cause.
On the one hand, making it so that Adam never interacts with Weiss is an interesting way to demonstrate how small and petty and selfish he is, how everything in his life is about how it affects him personally. He doesn't go after Weiss because she's less important to him than Blake and Yang, who (he thinks) hurt him more recently and threaten his power. The Schnees don't matter to him the way they do to his subordinates, even though he has an SDC brand on his face, because all Adam wants to do is hurt someone, anyone, the way the world hurt him. He's happy to attack the Huntsman Academies despite those not exactly being the fountains of injustice that plague the world of Remnant because they happen to be convenient targets that his allies are giving him the power to destroy. He's lashing out at whoever and whatever he can. Weiss doesn't matter. The SDC doesn't matter. Equality doesn't matter. Salem's targets or the consequences of attacking them don't matter. All that matters is Blake, who defied his power over her and made him feel weak. He targets her parents and maims Yang to hurt her. She's his priority even when he's in control of the White Fang. Even Yang only matters to him because she represents a threat to his control over, his ownership of, Blake. Ultimately, it's not even about Blake, it's about Adam's need to be powerful and in control.
On the other hand, Weiss is inextricably intertwined with the White Fang storyline and Adam is its primary representative, which means those narrative threads should've gone somewhere. The closest Weiss ever gets to confronting her family's complicity in the oppression the Faunus labor under is her conflict with Blake. She doesn't get a meaningful confrontation with any member of the White Fang besides a background character who mostly existed to give her someone to lose a fight to and her own teammate, who had already left the organization. The other side of that storyline, her connection to the SDC, fizzles out when her mother hands her the evidence she needs to get her father arrested with minimal effort and Ambrosius casts Meteor using Atlas as the projectile.
This is one of many reasons I hate the way they killed Sienna Khan off the way they did. If she'd survived, if Adam's faction had been a splinter group in truth, we could've positioned Sienna as the member of the White Fang with the conflict with Weiss and Adam as a more personal antagonist for Yang and Blake. We could've had Weiss express the frustration Sienna's White Fang caused her and given Sienna the chance to air her very legitimate grievances with the Schnee family, call Weiss a spoiled child, and all the other good stuff that comes with their ideological conflict. Give Weiss a real good look at who her family's hurt, let her come to terms with the damage Jacques caused to people outside her immediate circle, make her desire to redeem her family name mean something by showing her exactly what the world thinks of it. Hell, let her talk to Ilia. They had the chance for that, she was literally right there at the start of Volume 6, but I'm pretty sure by that point they were trying to close off the White Fang plotline as quickly as possible. I'm pretty sure the writers have never really been comfortable writing the fantasy racism storyline, which is a shame because I think it could've been really good if they'd knuckled down, done their research, and really engaged with it. Unfortunately, they didn't, and we switched gears to Salem on top of that and everything else kind of fell by the wayside.
Do I think RWBY could've told a good story if Adam really had been the morally gray revolutionary, the badass antihero, that certain people seem to think he either was or should've been? Honestly, yeah, it's not like that character archetype hasn't proven successful before, and edgy weeby characters can absolutely work, but also, like, I don't think RWBY needed to go that route, nor do I think it would have been significantly better if it had. Can't say I'm super thrilled about the decision to give Adam a brand on his face and then just... never really engage with that or acknowledge that literally being marked like livestock suddenly made him a lot more sympathetic and had implications for the worldbuilding, but overall I'm pretty fine with how they handled him.
In conclusion, goatman a bitch.

I'm told BND Harry started patching things up with Liz off-panel and didn't care about Normie for most of his appearances. Would you say that's a fair assessment?
I'll preface this by saying that I may be overlooking something as I am not super well read on the post OMD era (many thanks to my friend @kitausuret for her liveblog of it, which def filled in some gaps for me!)
But overall... yes and no. Patching up things with Liz off-panel definitely rings true to me, I can think of only one storyline where the conflict between them was beginning to be adressed head-on
Tumblr media
Which ended with both of them by Normies side, establishing how they are a family regardless of how the relationship between Liz and Harry may evolve from here. Overall, a good start.
Tumblr media
However following that this conflict was neglected. Until, at a later point, we were informed that while plot was happening Harry and Liz were basically locked in a room together and whatever happened in there caused them to get romantically involved in some way again which. Hmmm. Is a very lackluster way to revive their relationship, especially considering how little ground it had to begin with. I can buy them being young, impulsive, etc pre OMD and rushing into getting married and having a child. But after the trauma Harry put his family through during his Goblin days, I cannot imagine things resolving so easily. We deserved a deeper exploration of their feelings, especially Liz' side.
Tumblr media
Harry's relationship to Normie post OMD wasn't as undercooked, although it still didn't receive its due if you ask me. The main thing that made me go "blegh" was that one quote from Harry about how he went for days at a time without thinking of Normie while he was in hiding. Bad. Very ooc. I do not see it
But ignoring that - Harry was consistently shown around Normie when the narrative didn't whisk him away to somewhere else (a problem of its own) and they definitely got more of a real pay-off to the conflict between them compared to HarryLiz. Normie was wary of his father upon Harrys return and there was this subplot about Harry struggling to raise two sons at a time, and Normie growing jealous of Stanley (as well as being confused by the status of his parents relationship)
Tumblr media
In my opinion, Normie's feelings were justified considering how big of an impact Harry's Goblin days and death must have left on his young psyche, and his (one-sided) sibling rivalry with his half brother was a compelling concept. The resolution to that, while rushed, was still quite sweet
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The main issue with post OMD Spider-Man comics, as you may have deduced from this summary, is that they more often than not do not want to commit to fleshing out grounded interpersonal conflict. Often, the writers don't give the characters enough time to be around each other, and when they do, we do not get to see enough of it to really paint a picture of the way their dynamics evolve. A problem will be set up, forgotten about for a while, and then we jump-cut to its supposed resolution.
This stands in stark contrast to the root of the complicated feelings between Harry and his family especially - DeMatteis' Goblin Jr arc left more room for the characters inner lives and how they externalize those than perhaps anything else. That's what made it so intense and captivating.
I really wish for another version of the post OMD era where Harry is not only written more in line with his original personality and themes, but he and his family receive more of an opportunity to shine as complex individuals with complex relationships to one another which change at a natural pace and through thoughtfully placed character beats. But regardless, I cannot agree with the assesssment that post OMD Harry didn't care about Normie. If anything, his scenes with Normie are the rare moments where his once character-integral softness and domesticity come through

Now that 911 is a (more or less) finished product, looking back on the thing as a whole kind of exposes that it often asked for (& got) more credit for it’s supposed progressiveness than it really should have. Maybe that’s not really a surprise given that apparently it’s core audience is middle aged white people. But let’s review and think about some of the more questionable messages we’ve been willing to overlook in hope of future improvement:
1. Casual sex is bad and people who have it are disrespecting themselves and eachother. Day one.
2. A therapist (in a position of power & authority) having sex with a (vulnerable, emotionally unstable) patient is funny. Nobody will ever call it assault or even admit that anybody was taken advantage of. It will be brought up later, but only in the form of a joke.
3. They gave the lesbian couple the cheating storyline.
4. A bOy NeEdS hIs MoThEr. On it’s own was one thing because in the specific instance of Shannon she was a known factor and it was about re-establishing a pre-existing bond, so you could say maybe they just expressed “this specific character loves and misses a parent he remembers” poorly. But then when you combine it years later with telling the lesbian couple that a BoY nEeDs HiS fAtHeR after said father exhibited extremely alarming borderline grooming behavior…. The combined effect leaves a taste about as pleasant as toothpaste & orange juice. Got it. Gay and single parent homes are incomplete. 👍 Real nice.
5. We can overlook the lack of intimacy with Mavid because it happened at the height of the pandemic (and one of the actors turned out to be a serious antivaxxer), but why so little physical affection for Henren? Six whole seasons and only a couple seasons, and they were only allowed to finally imply that sex successfully happened in a flashback? They get interrupted every other time? Because what, they audience is expected to be the “fine as long as I don’t have to see it” type?
6. Chimney and Buck didn’t need to work their shit out onscreen, after such a serious falling out? Why is that?
7. For that matter writing Chimney out for the duration of JLH’s maternity leave because???? His character is only relevant in relation to her??? Even though he was there first???
8. The Taylor of it all. The show never actually condemns her for attempting to use a vulnerable, high, grieving Bobby for personal advancement? Buck, who loves Bobby like a father, is okay with it?
9. Everybody must forgive their shitty parents no matter how little they try. I think only Toni properly apologized. And Ramon at least expressed general regret and willingness to change. Everybody else was totally unearned.
10. For all the found-family vibes, the show actually never once says that? The closest we actually get is May saying it in 6x11, and Bobby acknowldging it, but that is A: specific to Bobby & Buck only and never brought up or even shown again. That’s the last time their storylines intertwine. Given the repeated hammering on the subject, the ultimate message seems to be that making your own family is nice but blood family is paramount.
11. The last season completely undermined the unconventional family structure that they had built with Chris, Eddie, & Buck. They didn’t have to actually go the romantic route to preserve that. They could have left off open-ended, or even put a bare minimum effort into setting up decent female love interests for one or both of them while still saying “this dynamic is still important and any new person in their lives is going to have to be okay with it.” Because families can look all sorts of unusual ways!
Idk in the end I think 911 missed a lot of opportunities to actually be as interesting as we gave them credit for being when we could still believe they were building to something. But instead they committed a sin worse than being bad, and that’s being boring.
Wow. This is...A Lot to look at laid out all at once. I will say 2 things, one, as far as intimacy goes, the show definitely had more in season 1 and a little in s2, and then sort of went to more "implications". Not sure why but it's been kind of a bummer. I don't expect cable levels but like, *somthing*. And it could be actor preference too, who knows, but it's been pretty across the board (except for Buck of course because KR is obsessed with getting into his pants). We DID see a sex scene with Hen in season 1it was just tied to the cheating thing sooo 😬😬😬 and we got the flashback but boy did Henren get interrupted at every other turn! And, we got Eddie in season 3 saying the line about "isn't that what the 118 is? The family we choose?" but you're right, that thread has been dropped HARD since KR took over because apparently she doesn't like found family.

steven universe theory megathread
so i’ve been rewatching steven universe & will update as i go. i had the idea to do this several episodes in but it became like my nightly thing to watch SU before bed so i’m at like season 3 now.. but anyways.
i wanna preface this by saying that i genuinely believe SU season 1 is entirely different & had a way different outcome than season 2 takes it, to the point where i’m going to regard it as a different show. as it stands now, most of my theories come from a season 1 outlook. i genuinely believe season 1 is its own, self-contained story that has no ending & instead can only be theorized on. i believe season 2 onward as somewhat of a spin-off that aligns SOMETIMES with season 1′s plan for the story, but overall takes it in a severely different direction. not sure the reasoning why, but from the looks of it & the theories i’ve come up with, it seems to have taken it in a darker/grim look & CN might not have liked that. or that a white woman was handling topics such as colonization & essentially a race war :) maybe that’s me.
general notes:
- although steven is the titular character, garnet pushes the story forward. the real stories lies in the gem’s backgrounds, & the only one doing that really is garnet. she’s the one that mainly sends them on missions, with a vague plan of what to do.
although she’s funneled into the leader archetype in season 2, it wasn’t where her character was meant to go. the amazing dynamic between the gems is that they’re all rough, stranded, & flawed in their own ways. garnet’s being (& it isn’t really said plainly enough) is that she’s sporadic, enigmatic, you can’t tell what she’s thinking, and she just possesses knowledge. they might use her like a compass but she is not meant to be the leader. she’s made into that role especially after we first meet sardonyx & that storyline plays out, but it ruins the dynamic. the dynamic of them being stranded, far from home, without their true leader, and that they don’t necessarily mesh well, but they come together for steven. that’s where the powerful storytelling lies in this show. i didn’t mean to take this bullet this route, but it needs to be said. anyways,
- garnet’s future vision
before it’s ever mentioned to us, and before we really get a handle on the dynamic, garnet is seen as this dauntless leader setting the team out on missions. as we come to learn her, we find out about future vision, and that’s what the show hinges on, i believe.
early season 1, the gems are just entirely out running quests & chores, all at the behest of garnet, who never shows where she gets her information. then we’re introduced to future vision.
through this lens, it’s safe to say that the quests she has the gems completing are all through the followings of future vision. look back on season 1 & you’ll wonder just where all the gems they’re fighting came from, how they knew about them, and quests such as the moon spire, the desert glass, etc. vs. season 2 & 3 where these new gem monsters are sparse & now only focused on expanding what’s already been established, such as the forced fusions, the diamonds, peridot, & lapis.
season 2 ruins this, and turns future vision into some sort of gimmick, with garnet plainly stating “i knew you would do that.” & i think at one point genuinely saying “my future vision told me” vs. how we were introduced to it, as flowing rivers & opportunities. you can argue that she just knows steven, or steven’s possibilities all mainly end up in the same way, but it’s too jarring & honestly it just fits my fantasy to blame it on the writers. what i will say though, is what feels like natural growth is garnet being more open, more personable, and more emotional. that i understand & genuinely enjoy, such as the random moments she shows her love for steven.
- season 2 ruination
like i said, it seems like season 1 is self-contained. season 1 establishes many old locations & characters & an overarching problem. the gems are fighting other gem monsters, corrupted versions of their old selves, while steven develops his powers. then it’s revealed that homeworld is still interested in the earth colony & we’re introduced to peridot & lapis, this opens up an entirely new conflict & location. i feel like partway into season 1 is where things branch off, although i feel like the jail break finale is a perfect way to end things & miiiiight’ve been what the season was leading up to anyways (garnet being a fusion is hinted at in like the beginning episodes), it still feels like the scope was lowered IMMENSELY. from here, there’s many options. a second war, steven becoming more powerful than the gems combined, the introduction of another friendly gem (not necessarily bismuth), etc. but it feels like it was ushered into a different age with season 2 & i dislike it because i think from 2 onward, the cringe content skyrockets.
- organic matter
i think, like future vision, this is one thing that the entire show hinges on & treats very importantly. steven is part gem, part organic matter, and he’s able to fuse with connie, and also heal her. organic matter is treated very sensitively in the show, and the episode i’m on now, (the centipeedle healing episode in season 3) shows steven repairing his torn stuffed animal, despite it not being organic matter. this can kinda go off in 2 ways, one weird one being M.C. bear bear IS made of organic matter, whether uncannily or just “technically the MATERIAL is organic”, or that steven is just able to heal things he sees broken & repairing them to his image. i don’t like this at all. i think steven’s handling of organic matter is something they wanted to open up later, such as his fingers turning into actual cats & fusing with connie, but was ditched entirely. you could say this has something to do with steven being a fusion (i forgot that entire scene tbh) but i think it was going to take a more darker look onto it. also steven being a fusion is pretty dark & pretty metal. but i mean it could’ve been darker as in like more grim. something weird.
- the government
i’ve been thinking more about immersion & IPs, & if you impose SU on the real world, obviously the government would know about the homeworld aircrafts, melon/mask island, & the gems in general, but they don’t. you could “it’s a cartoon” it away but i genuinely want to get into it
my theory is that beach city is some sort of ghost town, untouched by the government or, alternatively, allowed free reign, as in the government doesn’t interfere, and that would explain why mayor dewey is incompetent & mostly does nothing all day, he’s just a fake mayor there to save face, just to sit in a position so people know that beach city has a mayor & therefore a government system in place.
one fun thought is that the ronaldo “snake people” storyline (have no idea why they even thought it was ok to do that) was foreshadowing—cause they LOVE to do that—that the government might be run by gems, deep undercover, or some shit. idk. it has holes it’s just a fun what-if
alternatively, what’s really happening is the government in SU works differently than our own & is nothing like our preconceived notion of what our modern government WOULD do, but i think it’s worth pointing out. i really respect that the show doesn’t bother giving an excuse & is just operating on a “just go with it” but i love thinking about the ins & outs, and this was one of them.
i’ll continue to update this every session i have that ends in theorycrafting

Happy Tender Tuesday!!!
Out of all your character's romances which is the most complicated? How do the different emotional intensities of your characters affected theif relationship? Who is more protective of the other and who is the most chill?
Hi! Happy Tender Tuesday!
Thanks for the ask. This is an interesting question.
I love to put a bit of romance into my writing (even if it’s a minor subplot or something), just because I love a good love story. 💖
In my main WIP, there are two main romantic pairings (which come with their own playlists lol. I make them for my characters sometimes because I love my music… it’s fun to think of a potential soundtrack for your stories):
Stephanie and Ben
Bret and Elise
I love writing for both! Probably because they are both really different and give different vibes.
Stephanie and Ben are already an established relationship from the start. They’re like the long term couple in the story (I don’t think I ever stated how long they’ve been together for, but I’d like to think it has been at least a year). So they are really comfortable together and enjoy each other’s company.
They also live together - after Steph ran away from her foster home, she moved in with Ben (he’s older, so he has his own place. I know it kind of sounds weird since she’s still in high school, but she’s 18, so it’s not like it’s illegal). Stephanie and Ben protect and support each other. They need each other. Stephanie has lived a life full of instability, and Ben is like her safe haven from all of that (because of this, I kind of characterise him as the “chill” one, but that doesn’t automatically mean that he isn’t protective of his lady).
They know each other really, really well because of this. They have this deep connection and understanding that is unique to them - Stephanie’s always talking about how she never truly felt understood or close to anyone before she met him. It’s cute… but it does have its flaws/downsides.
Steph lowkey becomes codependent in her relationship with Ben. She’s a strong independent young woman, but she’s also super attached to her boyfriend and she’s just used to him being there for her all the time. Which makes their long distance relationship even more of a struggle for her. Ben gets a work opportunity out of the country, leaving Stephanie behind for a year. She’s living alone for the first time in her whole life, and she gets really sad and lonely. She also worries that things will change between them while he’s away (and has nightmares about him cheating). She’s not doing so well… and this even affects the way she acts around her friends.
(More below)
Now let’s discuss the other main ship: Bret and Elise. These two are serving the “friends to lovers” vibes lol. Well, more like “childhood friends to lovers” vibes - they’ve known each other since primary school, and they’ve been close friends for years. Because they’ve essentially grown up together, they know each other quite well, too (not the same exact way as Ben and Steph, tho. Since they don’t live together. But they’ve known each other for a way longer duration than Ben and Steph have).
I think I might actually enjoy writing for them a little more (just a LITTLE bit. I still love Steph and Ben’s storyline), just because it’s that classic high school love story, you know? Like, it’s the story of two characters getting to know one another, seeing each other in a new light, and then falling in love. It’s beautiful. 😍
They are also really interesting characters together. They are very different (opposites attract and all that), and their dynamic is fun and engaging because of this. This also means that they argue quite a bit. 😅
They also just have a strong connection even before they start falling for each other - aside from the fact that El has had a minor crush on Bret for years, we see them reaching out to each other when they need support, and trusting each other with things that they probably wouldn’t share with the other members of the group.
Something about their relationship that I feel like I should probably mention, though, is their storyline is… a lot. The main gist of it is that Bret is a chaotic slacker troublemaking mess, and he decides after a while that he doesn’t want to be that person anymore. So he goes to Elise (his kind, agreeable, responsible model student friend) for some help with changing. She agrees to support him on his journey, and it goes smoothly at first, but he just can’t stay focused. He relapses into his old habits, frustrating her more and more, until he does something that upsets her so much that she just can’t take this whole “let’s fix Bret” mission anymore. And that’s not even half of it.
I don’t think this is the best way to start a relationship in real life. Bret becomes super dependent on Elise to become her coach at life, essentially, which is a lot of pressure to put on a person (especially someone that’s a teenager like you, who you also consider a friend, or someone you care about a lot). Add that to the fact that he never really followed her advice, either - not most of the time, anyways. And when you take all his trauma and emotional baggage into account as well… it’s a lot of stress for just one person. It’s understandable that Elise eventually snapped.
Something I just wanted to say here is that I don’t believe that a romantic relationship (or any relationship, for that matter) is a solution to your life problems. It’s not a substitute for therapy. It’s not the job or responsibility of your partner to “fix” you, despite what many romance stories and movies tell us nowadays lol. I just came up with this plot for them as a starting point because I wanted to set up these two (both together, and separately) and their overall dynamic and vibes.
It’s not healthy to completely depend on someone else to give you stability, especially in this case (teenagers figuring out who they are while also dealing with the challenges of student life and all… towards the end of their final year of high school). Fortunately, that’s part of what Bret’s arc is about! Learning to build discipline and changing his life for himself, instead of depending on external factors. This definitely improves his relationship with El.
At least I’m trying to be self aware with things lol. 😂
But yeah. Both romantic subplots are great, in my opinion. I’m biased, but still.
Stephanie and Ben bring a lot of drama to the table, while Bret and Elise are a fun high school romance (with its fair share of drama as well, tbh).
And I think I’ll end it here, since I’ve been going on forever.😆
Man, this was a good ask. Thank you so much! I love talking about ships. 💕
I hope this is a good answer. And I hope that you enjoy the playlists!

2023 summer anime season first impressions:
- Undead Girl Murder Farce
A historical-fantasy detective story with fun characters? I’m in!!! I was very intrigued with the first episode especially with the introduction of our main trio and the set up for the main storyline.
The time jump in the 2nd episode was a bit jarring though. I was looking forward to their first case together but it seems like Tsugaru and Aya are already established detectives now. Felt like a wasted opportunity but I look forward to see how the rest of the story will go!
One thing I did this show does very well is to make conversations between characters engaging. Usually long conversations or expositions are treated as a bad thing but this show doesn’t shy away from them. I appreciate the character banters and the stylistic shots to make the audience be engrossed too. Shoutout to the VAs as well!
- Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
Whew, the first episode was really impressive! I love the buildup of Akira’s working life as a corporate employee. I think most people can relate to the feeling of being utterly exhausted and not wanting to go to work. This made the climax scene where he’s free from work much more impactful! I also love the use of colours to show the bloody mess of zombies.
I do think the humor does fall flat sometimes but I’m enjoying the show so far!
- The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today
3 eps into the show and it is already my comfort slice of life show for this season! I want a Yukichi in my life!!! I mean, who doesn’t want a giant cat that can cook, clean and take care of you?
- Link Click S2
The long-awaited S2 is here and this show continues to be impressive! I appreciate how the story picked up right off after the cliffhanger from S1 and we got to see the immediate aftermath. The fake-out death scene got me worried but I’m glad things turn out well. I also can’t believe this show can make me cry over minor characters in a single ep. The mystery is keeping me on my toes and I can’t wait to see how this season will unfold!
- My Happy Marriage
I’m enjoying it so far especially with Kudo and Miyo’s developing relationship. My heart goes out to Miyo. She was treated horribly by her family and has very low self-esteem due to her lack of supernatural abilities among other things.
It’s painful that she sees herself in terms of how “useful” she can be for Kudo. I also hated how Miyo’s father and that other dude’s father treated her as a possession to be “won”. Kudo standing her to Miyo’s family was so satisfying!
It’ll be a slow healing process but I’m glad Kudo clearly says that he wants her to stay for who she is.
I’m also intrigued with the supernatural aspect of the story. Hope we’ll get more of it as the story progresses since it feels important to Miyo’s characters. There was a odd shift in the pacing between ep2 and ep3 in terms of how Kudo interacted with Miyo. It’s nothing bad but it is noticeable for me.
- BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!
The newest entry into the Bandori franchise and I’m enjoying it so far! From the very first scene of the anime, we’re shown that the tone of MyGO’s story will be different from what we’ve seen so far in the main story. It’s more dramatic and filled with unresolved conflicts. Our main characters are messy and have a lot of unresolved issues. Episode 3 stand out for me. It’s a really good ep that delves into Tomori’s character and fully utilizes the anime medium by telling her story through her POV! Anon and Taki have a very fun dynamic while Soyo continues to give me odd vibes. Most importantly, Raana is a cute stray cat.

What do you like most about JJK? Favorite characters? Favorite arcs? Why do you like it, like what is it about JJK that you like it more than another series (if you do) :) Your passion about it makes me want to like it more!
that’s so nice of you to say omg ty!! jxnfksnfkx
i really, really love the characters themselves—most of the major players have lots of layers and feel a lot more real than in other series. like, for as much as i like other series, yuuji is one of the best shounen protags i’ve seen in a while, and while jjk’s treatment of women isn’t great, i like how it lets them feel and be flawed and complex and be able to genuinely rage. equal-opportunity meowmeowification. in a similar vein, there’s also the way the series subverts a ton of common tropes, and one of my favorite examples of this is sukuna. he’s not here to deliver sarcastic quips and slowly become fond of yuuji; he’s here to cause problems and commit murder! he’s a real, terrifying threat, and it’s established right off the bat that he is not fucking around and will likely be the final big bad. and i love that!
i also really enjoy analysis and this kind of thing gives me a lot of material to latch onto.
i get attached to characters super easily. yuuji will always be my Boy my Guy my Dude but some other top faves are—in no particular order—megumi, nobara, maki, gojou, and getou, which is. very predictable if you’ve seen me talk at all, but if i think about their respective storylines too hard i start getting the urge to chew through concrete. I Love Literary Devices <3
i think my favorite arcs so far have been the yasohachi bridge arc (characters going berserk and having the time of their lives my beloved), the yuuta vs yuuji arc (does that count as an arc?? anyway yuuta’s entrance slaps and just. the vibes, man. the fresh dynamics. also chousou <333) and perfect preparation (roaring rampage of revenge is, tbh, one of my favorite tropes in general, and jjk delivers so well). i also reread star plasma vessel now and then but that one mostly just makes me sad so fnsnfksjf
also just like. i’m not 100% sure what it is about jjk specifically that made it lodge in my brain, especially because i finished it and went, “huh. that was kind of cool i guess” and then fast forward a year and a half and it’s one of the only things i care about, but i think it might’ve been a situation where i came for the plot and stayed for the characters. as in, i’m fully invested in where the plot is going, but it’s yuuji & co. that really got me hooked.
while they’re all totally different genres, something similar happened with most of my other favorite series over the last few years: i had zero interest in volleyball but i was completely sold on haikyuu within two episodes because of the MCs and their rivalry; the untamed/grandmaster of demonic cultivation has a few glaring plot holes but i literally could not care less and can go on for hours about the MC and his family; and wanting to know what happened to the MC of chainsaw man helped me power through the last few arcs when it just became one gut punch after another.
tl;dr i love it when there are Guys in Media.

Do you have any thoughts specifically on Captain Marvel Junior’s origin story (Whiz Comics #25)?
Hey! Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner, but I’m revisiting Freddy’s origin issue now that I’m planning on properly reading some of his Golden Age comics in preparation for watching the Elvis movie! So here are some various musings:
I read Captain Marvel Jr. be referred to as the first important spin-off character in comics, which would make Whiz Comics #25, published in 1941, the first comic book to introduce such a character.
I haven’t really read any other comparable spin-off character introduction issues from this era, but unlike Mary Marvel, whose origin was told in Captain Marvel Adventures #18 and then who also appeared in Captain Marvel Adventures #19 to promote her cover feature at Wow Comics, Freddy just appeared in that one issue of Whiz Comics with Billy before his tenure at Master Comics. However, this appearance did come at the end of a crossover event between Whiz Comics and Master Comics, the storyline that culminated in his origin having issues in both. Also, Mary appears on the cover of her origin issue, while Freddy does not. And Mary’s issue does more to establish her backstory than Freddy’s does, it seems that by the end of 1942 they had refined the process a bit.
I think if this kind of issue were published today, the story would show a brief look at Freddy and his grandfather before they are attacked by Captain Nazi. His origin had this in The Power of Shazam! (1995). Instead, Whiz Comics #25 begins like any other Captain Marvel story and we are dropped into Freddy’s life as it is being changed forever.
This issue was impactful on the Marvel Family’s mythos in many ways, including bringing the Wizard Shazam back into having an active role, when he originally wasn’t intended to appear after he first gave Billy powers. I’m a fan of the Wizard Shazam and his dynamic with the kids, so that’s real special to me <3
I like how, when Billy is telling the Wizard Shazam about what’s happened and that he has to help Freddy somehow, the panel’s narration reads “Billy, himself, was only a poor starving newsboy before Shazam gave him the power to become Captain Marvel.” I like this connection between how Billy and Freddy weren’t in good circumstances before receiving the power of Shazam, something that isn’t the case for Mary. For her it’s more of an opportunity for adventure and to do more good, whereas it’s a bit more serious for Billy and Freddy, which isn’t traditionally how Billy is framed in what discussions I’ve seen.
I also really like Captain Marvel telling Junior, “[...] whenever you need me, speak my name and as Captain Marvel Jr. you will be able to do the things I do.” Later on the Marvel Family develops so that there is a Marvel Family group and they regularly team-up in The Marvel Family, but I don’t believe that that was originally foreseen. When there is a team, they’re all capable enough to, and do, hold their own, but they also spend time together for fun and work together to defeat bigger threats. For now though, I think the sentiment of ‘if you need me, call on my name and receive my powers to handle yourself’ is sweet.
I don’t feel that we get a real in-depth look at Freddy’s personality in this issue. We see how he carries himself in the boat with his grandpa and then how he reacts when his grandfather is killed, and then he’s unconscious until the very last page when he becomes Captain Marvel Jr. Though, Freddy Freeman is already being drawn more realistic than Billy Batson in this issue, so that, and the intense events, give an indication of tone.
A random note, I like how when Captain Nazi kills Freddy’s grandpa, Freddy immediately picks up an oar to attack Captain Nazi with, a detail that was maintained when the story was revisited in the early 80s in the E. Nelson Bridwell and Don Newton run.

@ninjathrowingstork That was my impression also, it felt like there should have been a full JSA movie first to actually build up these characters, maybe give a stronger reason why Carter was so adamant that Adam stand down when he was defending his homeland. I wanted more backstory on him and Fate and their friendship, since they showed everyone being a team and working together, but it's just three people and we could have done with another movie first (1/)
Where they have to iron out team dynamics and lose 1-2 teammates somehow to another supervillain so we get a better motivation why it's so urgent they contain him and give us an explanation why they suddenly have jurisdiction now. Also I felt like they just dropped the whole thing about Adrianna's pendant being an heirloom and her also looking like his wife like is she also a descendant of his somehow? Or of a relative? It would have been a fun parallel to Ishmael. (2/2)
no you're so right! a JSA movie where we're properly introduced to Carter Hall and Kent Nelson and the idea of the JSA - a super powered org that answers to a governing body as opposed to the JL who answers to no one (as already established in prev DC films). Then there would be reason for the tension with Black Adam and we would understand why JSA was called in. Plus Carter Hall's backstory as an archaeologist who is actually the reincarnation of an Egyptian king is so cool!!! Could’ve had a lot of fun with that as a concept for a movie. And just Thanagarian lore is really cool and badass and necessary to establish Hawkman as a warrior who does not back down (and the like reincarnation thing is a pretty big part his character, so him being the potential death could’ve had a lot more emotional stakes if he had only just gotten his memories back??) Plus, like Dr Fate! C’mon man! So many missed opportunities there with his powers. What we got of him was really neat I just wanted more.
there were just too many characters to introduce and storylines to balance to give proper weight to any of it, which sucks because that means we also got less of Black Adam’s story which resulted in a lot of story threads being dropped too. Now, how much of this was classic WB meddling post-production issues? only time will tell. but at the moment i feel like we got half a movie and I’m still waiting on the rest.

It seems timely to post something I've been meaning to for a while: I Read All of She-Hulk's Solo Series and I Have Opinions!
Savage She-Hulk:
This is fine. Just pretty standard superhero comics.
It's not bad, but it's not really doing anything to make Jen stand out and it's nowhere near establishing what she would come to be.
I'll give it credit for ending with establishing that She-Hulk is who Jen wants to be, rather than a problem to solve.
Also, this gay-ass panel from when her and Patsy first meet:
Tumblr media
Sensational She-Hulk (by John Byrne):
He's a dickhead, but Byrne deserves credit for defining Jen. Pretty much everything unique about her comes from his issues of Sensational.
And it establishes that this is who Jen really is.
Tumblr media
It definitely has the Emma Frost problem - "I'm sexy because I want to be!" says the character written by horny men.
But, when it's not wasting half an issue on unrelated meta-jokes objectifying Jen, it's a great series.
And it establishes my favourite kind of She-Hulk story: Jen just trying to enjoy her life while also being She-Hulk - whether it's superhero nonsense that's complicating things, or just the fact that she's tall and green.
Sensational She-Hulk (by anyone else):
Uh … there's definitely a reason that the only Sensational collection available just includes Byrne's issues.
It's a mixed bag of bad Byrne impressions, generic superhero plots, and just absolute garbage.
I feel I should also mention She-Hulk: Ceremony that slots in the middle of this run somewhere, but it's just bizarre.
Wyatt's probably the only guy I like as a partner for Jen, but I don't know what this is trying to do.
She-Hulk (by Dan Slott):
Slott frustrates me so much. He can write good comics! His Silver Surfer was great!
But he also makes terrible comics that include awful things that should never have made it to the page (see: everything about Silk's introduction).
This is an almost perfect comic. It has great stories and good characterisation of Jen. I don't even mind that she spends time depowered, as it's addressing the idea of her not being taken seriously as She-Hulk.
And then it just does various small things wrong.
It tries to discuss Jen experiencing sexism and the double-standard she's subjected to for having many partners (compared to male heroes) but it still indulges in those attitudes towards Jen when it can.
And it does shit like introducing a sexy robot SHIELD agent for no reason.
The Starfox story is a microcosm of this. It's a great storyline that ends with his powerful father showing up and going "fuck your trial, my special boy doesn't have to face your Earth consequences".
And then it ruins it all by returning to it later and suggesting the whole trial, etc was an evil plot by Thanos and Starfox basically says "Hey Jen, you know I'm not really a rapist, right?" and … she just accepts his word on it?
She-Hulk (by Peter David):
This is fine. I'm not a fan of the random change to Jen being a bounty hunter and not wanting to be a hero, but it's enjoyable enough.
It's mostly moved on from casual sexism, but still can't resist an opportunity to have Jen be naked.
Jen's interactions with other characters is what saves it from being wholly unnecessary. Reading through all of these runs, there are a lot of secondary characters I wouldn't mind coming back.
And of course there's the end of this page:
Tumblr media
We are all Thundra here.
She-Hulk (by Charles Soule):
Just absolutely perfect. No notes.
The stories are exactly what I want from a She-Hulk book. The characterisation is perfect. The supporting characters are great (Patsy is here! She'll fight you!).
Tumblr media
It doesn't even need to, but it dashes off a perfect Captain America story while it's at it. Just because it can.
And (unlike some) I sincerely love the art. It's dynamic and fun and always does exactly what the story needs it to.
Re-reading to prepare for this thread, I came to appreciate the couple of issues where Ronald Wimberly took over even more.
I also love the way it has Jen always being She-Hulk, but has her further "hulk out" when she needs to.
Hulk (by Mariko Tamaki):
Another frustrating one. Coming out of Civil War II, this didn't have much going for it. That Jen had to stay that way for so long just ruins everything. It ends up trying to tell stories that don't fit Jen, no matter how well they're written.
What makes me not want to write it off is issue #11, which is pretty much a classic She-Hulk story. Why couldn't the whole book be like that?
I've read other stuff by Mariko Tamaki and I know she could've written that.
Then the last two issues has Jen healing and finding her way back to being her true self, but it feels so rushed. Like it should have been intertwined across the rest of the run.
She-Hulk (by Rainbow Rowell):
This has just started, but I like it already. It's got nods to previous runs and the characterisation is good.
Hell, you can even treat it as a continuation of the previous run and pretend nothing has happened to Jen in other comics in the meantime.
Though it did alert me to what's been happening with Patsy recently, which I'm less pleased about …
---
And that's it! There are other great non-solo She-Hulk books (A-Force! FF!), but I'd drive myself mad that way. And I definitely don't want to talk about recent ensemble stuff she's been in.
(I've only mentioned writers here to indicate what run I'm talking about. Artists are just as important and affect how good a comic is, but I didn't want to waste words listing who worked on each book when I just wanted to talk about the books as a whole.)

Tumblr media
ABOUT ME. My name is Min, I'm over 30 years of age and I've been rping in various fandoms for over 15 years. I work during the week so replies are slow, but I'm usually online and available through DMs or discord (for mutuals only).
REQUIREMENTS. If you are interested in roleplaying with me, you must be at least 18 years of age, ideally over 21. I make no exceptions for minors, regardless of thread content. I will gravitate towards H:SR canon muses, but I am open to OCs if the character appeals to me and crossovers if I can see a way to merge our worlds together.
WRITING. I prefer plotted threads and longer replies (on average I'll write 3-6 paragraphs), but I don't expect you to match length. What matters to me is the content of our posts and our ability to progress in the story we want to tell. I don't really do short convos anymore (unless it's dash crack) and I don't write unplotted starters because they often lead nowhere. If you have ideas for our muses, just message me and if you don't have ideas yet but would like to write, let's plot together :)
MEMES. Best way to get something started with me is through memes. Any memes in my meme tag are available without time limit for all mutuals, so no need to ask first, just send in whatever tickles your fancy! Heads up: it might take me forever and three days to respond, but I will get there eventually. Feel free to reblog any meme posts directly from my blog, I don't mind that at all.
SHIPPING. I am open to shipping and I would love to develop something more profound and long-lasting for Dan Heng. He is not an easy muse to ship with and I don't insta-ship, but I very much enjoy writing ships. If I write multiple ships, they are automatically in separate verses unless discussed otherwise. I'd be happy to explore Dan Feng/Yingxing in past threads and its repercussions on the present. I have a soft spot for Jing Yuan / Dan Heng, particularly if Jing Yuan had feelings for Dan Feng in the past, because I think that would make for a beautiful angsty love story in the present :) Please note that I do not ship Dan Heng/March 7th romantically and I am torn on shipping him with the Trailblazer (that one's debatable), but I'll happily write them as a platonic dynamic. If you're interested in writing a ship with me, best come discuss it with me directly :)
SOCIAL POLITICS.I am against callout and cancel culture and do not engage in it. Callouts will not be reblogged - I curate my dashboard my own way and I have no interest in being dragged into other people's fights. I don't respect publicly hating on fictional ships, characters or portrayals. I will never harass anyone or shame them for the fictional things they choose to write, I simply avoid, blacklist or block what I don't want to see. I believe the RPC would be a better place if people tried to be more tolerant, respectful and kind to one another.
