Everyone in TOG will be immortal because I say so
We already know for sure Aelin, Rowan, Manon, Fenrys and Lorcan have settled
Aedion can very likely settle, his father being Gavriel
Lysandra is a shape shifter so I’m going to say she can settle as well
Dorian has so much raw magic that he will be able to as well
Elide has witch blood and Lorcan’s life is tied to hers, so loophole will keep her alive
Someday they will find out Evangeline has magic and she will be able to settle as well, because Lysandra won’t survive having to bury her
Chaol is the only mortal and it will be horribly tragic when a still young Dorian and still young Aelin have to bury him, unless somehow Yrene’s magic healing keeps her alive and since their lives are intertwined he stays alive as well
And they can all be happy and alive forever and ever, visiting each other’s kingdoms and eating chocolate cake and being at peace

I feel like we need to talk about how easy it is to ship Elide with women
Manon and Elide? The blueprint, would’ve been married if Manon was a man, Manon learning to let people in and Elide finally having someone who is on her side and won’t act like she can’t defend herself
Lysandra and Elide? Flirty x has never been flirted with, they are the photo with the one girl on top of the other putting makeup on the girl under her
Yrene and Elide? Soft wives, the two of them slowly growing closer when Yrene is working to help Elide with her ankle and becoming comfortable with each other until everyone around thinks they’re dating when they’re not
Ansel and Elide? Elide surprising Ansel with her secret sharp tongue and and the two of them bantering with each other, they judge people at fancy parties
Asterin and Elide? Asterin allowing herself to love again and let herself open up to Elide, who learns to lower the walls she’s kept up to protect her against the cruel world they live in, Asterin could spend days praising her smart gf
Nesryn and Elide? Intimate touches when Nesryn teaches Elide to shoot a bow, Elide learning to bake so she can make pastries that remind Nesryn of home
Listen, Elide it is so easy to ship with women it’s insane

I've always, always, always, argued that SJM's racism is intentional. People undermine the conversation about racism in SJM by arguing that her racism is just a little, fickle mistake. I really aggressively need to push back against this point - I don't think SJM is an idiot blonde woman who does not recognize the racism in her writing. If anything the reason why I've persisted this long talking about the problems in her story is because I was initially taken aback by just how intentional the racism is.
For example, the Illyrians. We talk about how ambiguous they are, but I think its one of the biggest examples of intentionality in the texts. The Illyrians purposely operate in this realm of uncertainty. Whether or not they are actually men of color has always been a moot point - it's about the intentionality of creating this race of men that embody these very weird, intentional traits. SJM knew that she wanted these men to be dark, violent, and warrior-like, but she also don't want them to be specifically categorized as men of color because the story simply doesn't see these men of color as desirable (see: Tarquin, Helion, Thesan - think about how they are characterized). It's also why I've argued that the story purposely doesn't associate the Illyrians as lesser fae, even though for all intent and purposes they are. The Illyrians are simultaneously the best (leathers, weapons, fighting) and the worst (culture, misogyny, hyperviolent). The story is also very intentional about how it characterizes the Illyrians concerning Rhys. Emerie just so happens to be the only one of her entire friend group that's not drop-dead gorgeous; notice how Amren is also described similarly when she is introduced initially. Everyone in the IC is gorgeous, beautiful, the most beautiful, but Amren the only explicit person of color, is described as being just plain.
The point is that these are very intentional writing choices - eerily specific, in my opinion. SJM is very intentional about the ways in which she chooses to 'represent' people of color in her series (see: Nehemia, Sorcha, Nesryn, Nuala, Cerridwen, Emerie, Fury, etc). Even think about the ways in which characters like Alis border on minstrelsy in their depiction. It's not just the representation, its the way certain traits are aligned with certain people, specifically people of color. I remember I made a post on my last blog about the ways in which SJM has her characters of color operate in this permanent semi-disposable position. There is always a way in which their white (white-passing) peers are always explicitly better (see: Hunt/Baxian, Helion/Nesta, Tarquin/Feyre, Yrene/Aelin - I have words for this one too).
In short, I don't think SJM is ignorant - not in the way people think. I actually think she is much smarter than even her own fans give her credit for and its why both her own stories and booktok/tube/gram have honestly gotten worse. I feel like oft times the pro and anti sides are just observing the same things (literally - the arguments are identical), but the difference is the pro sides don't think its a big deal partially because they believe that SJM is a whimsy white women who just can't understand she's wrong. Its why the argue that SJM is 'working to get better' even though she's written, at this point, over fifteen books.

Sarah J. Maas Bonus Chapter Masterlist
Many people have posted images of the bonus chapters from Sarah J. Maas's books, and I thank you for giving us access to content we would have missed out on otherwise. However, no one has posted all of them, so I figure that I can collate the links in one place.
There are minor spoilers below the cut in the chapter descriptions, so be wary of looking too far ahead, if you have not read all the books.

SJM characters whose hate makes no sense
Lorcan Salvaterre: aight ik he's a cold-ass warrior but that Maeve thing is not as big a deal as it's made out to be ok. Y'all forget that Aelin was stupid hiding her plans from experienced war generals and that Lorcan never pretended to be loyal to Aelin. And he never intended for Aelin to go through that torture. Plus Maeve would've found them anyway! A little slower, yeah, but still. Nesta Archeron: ok, come on man. She said some mean words, get over it already pls. there are so many characters who did way worse and get no hate for it. Eris Vanserra: ok he called mor a slut. so what? he's playing a role, plus that bitch be spreading heinous lies about him. and he has shown more respect for mor by bailing her out of their marriage and saving her from her father keir, than the entire inner circle who subjected her to her abuser without even telling her. he's not sexist, he's a mama's boy! besides rhysand objectified feyre's breasts in front of a high lord so. Chaol Westfall: Aight bruh tf did he do? It's one thing knowing someone is an assassin and another thing seeing someone actually murder people. He had nothing to do with Nehemia's death, so don't even with that. Celaena was the one who tried to kill him after claiming to love him. What did you expect Chaol to be all sunshine and rainbows with her? Pls be fr. Besides he's Fleetfoot's number one protector so. Additionally, if you haven't read Tower of Dawn, you have zero content. Friendly reminder if you hate Chaol, Dorian AND Aelin don't like you. Nor do Yrene or Nesryn. Gwyneth Berdara: It's mainly Elriels who keep making up evil Gwyn theories and...stop. Just stop. I don't even gaf if you ship them, but don't drag Gwyn into this, ok? She's so precious and she's a r*pe SURVIVOR. LEAVE. HER. ALONE. And if you say she's lying about that and it's part of her evil plan, I will become the monster under your bed. Lucien Vanserra: If you call Lucien a pushover or an abuser, I will actually become violent. Stop blaming male abuse victims. Just stop it. It's ridiculous. Lucien did fight for her and got abused. Go back and read. He's a r*pe survivor too, because he took on the duties his High Lord wouldn't for the sake of his court. Also, if you're dragging him through the dirt because you're an Elriel shipper, the door is that way --> Bombastic side eye to haters of these characters. ESPECIALLY my favorite sassy redheads (Gwyn and Lucien). Maybe y'all are just salty all these characters have last names while half of your favs still don't.

disclaimer 1: this post will contain spoilers for the pairings of every sjm book.
disclaimer 2: if I were to add every single couple sjm has written I would be here all day, so I will only add couples who are currently together (LoA and Beron), endgame (Aelin and Rowan), heavily implied to be endgame (Manon and Dorian) or where one of the people died (Aelin and Sam). I will not add couples that have broken up willingly or really secondary couples.
disclaimer 3: this post is anti gwynriel and elucien and pro elriel. It's also really long.
The argument that elriel is too cliché and cheesy due to the whole "3 brothers, 3 sisters" is so stupid to me. However, due to that part of the fandom and their unwillingness to think objectively, let's look at the statistics, shall we.
Here is a list of the sjm couples and their status as mates or not:
Aelin and Rowan - mates
Yrene and Chaol - humans, not mates
Manon and Dorian - we don't know, maybe
Elide and Lorcan - mates
Lysandra and Aedion - mates
Nesryn and Sartaq - humans, not mates
Elena and Gavin - mates
Aelin and Sam - broken up, not mates
Lyria and Rowan - broken up, not mates
Aedion's mom and Gavriel - heavily implied mates, maybe
Sorscha and Dorian - broken up, not mates
Asterin and the hunter - we don't know, maybe
Feyre and Rhys - mates
Nesta and Cassian - mates
Viviane and Kallias - mates
LoA and Beron - currently together, not mates
Jesminda and Lucien - broken up, not mates
Miryam and Drakon - mates
Amren and Varian - we don't know, maybe
Thesan and his lover - heavily implied mates, maybe
Rhys' mother and father - deceased, mates
Tamlin's mother and father - deceased, mates
Theia and Aidas - broken up, mates
Bryce and Hunt - mates
Lidia and Ruhn - mates
Danika and Baxian - broken up, mates
Sophie and Cormac - heavily implied mates, maybe
Fury and Juniper - we don't know, maybe
Declan and Marc - we don't know, maybe
Ember and Randall - humans, not mates
Bryce and Connor - broken up, not mates
Shahar and Hunt - broken up, not mates
Out of the 32 couples mentioned above, 14 are mates (43.75%), 10 aren't mates (31.25%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (25%)
Out of the 14 couples who are mates, 12 either died while being a couple or are currently together (85.71%) and 2 are broken up mates (14.29%)
Out of the 10 couples who aren't mates, 3 are humans (30%), 6 are broken up and therefore not endgame (60%) and 1 are currently together (10%)
Before we continue let's talk about the definition of cliché:
something or someone that is not at all original, surprising, or interesting because it has very often been seen before.
In this post, a cliché couple will be part of the highest percentage of it's category.
Now let's add Elain, Gwyn, Azriel and Lucien to the mix. Here are the most discussed possibilities of these couples:
Elriel - mates and together
Elriel - not mates and together
Elriel - not mates and not together
Elucien - mates and together
Elucien - mates and broken bond
Gwynriel - mates and together
In the case of gwynriel being mates and together that would mean elucien are mates and together and would make elriel not mates and broken up.
So in this case there would be 35 couples, 16 mates (45.71%), 11 not mates (31.43%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (22.86%)
Out of 16 mates, 14 either died while being a couple or are currently together (87.5%) and 2 are broken up mates (12.5%).
Out of 11 not mates, 3 are humans (27.27%), 7 are broken up and therefore not endgame (63.64%) and 1 are currently together (9.09%)
Therefore that would make gwynriel part of the 87.5% of mates who are together and a cliché
Elucien would also be part of the 87.5% and a cliché
Elriel would be part of the 63.64% of not mates who are broken up and a cliché.
In the case of elriel being mates and together, that would make elucien mates who are not together and gwynriel would be nonexistent.
The only reason gwynriel is noted as nonexistent and not not mates and not together is because while we have got clearly stated evidence of a romance between elriel (the almost kiss in the bonus chapter), we haven't gotten confirmed evidence of a romance between gwynriel (there are theories and maybe subtext, but not clearly stated evidence).
So in this case there would be 34 couples, 16 are mates (47.06%), 10 aren't mates (29.41%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (23.53%).
Of the 16 mates, 13 either died while being a couple or are still together (81.25%) and 3 are broken up (18.75%).
Elriel would be part of the 81.25% and a cliché.
Elucien would be part of the 18.75% and not a cliché.
However, elriel being mates would mean that Elain had two mating bonds with two different males, so although the outcome would make elriel cliché, the execution would be a first for sjm and not cliché.
In the case of elriel not being mates but together, that would make elucien mates who are not together and gwynriel would be nonexistent.
Of the 34 couples, 15 are mates (44.12%), 11 aren't mates (32.35%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (23.53%).
Out of the 15 mates, 12 either died while being a couple or are still together (80%) and 3 are broken up (20%).
Out of the 11 not mates, 3 are humans (27.28%), 6 are broken up (54.55%) and 2 (18.19%) are still together.
Elriel would be part of the 18.19% and not a cliché.
Elucien would be part of the 20% and not a cliché.
In conclusion, the only way elriel could be cliché would be if they were not mates and didn't end up together and if they were mates who ended up together. Even in the last case, they wouldn't be too cliché because it would mean Elain had two mating bonds, which we have yet to see in any sjm book.
The endgame for both gwynriel and elucien would make them cliché, while the breaking of the mating bond would make elucien not cliché and, let's be honest, there's not any other possibility of gwynriel being endgame apart from them being mates.
You can dislike whatever ship you want, but saying that elriel is a cliché would be an objective lie, when they are the most unique couple written by sjm to date.

“Gwyn can’t be paired with Azriel because she’s not a main character!”
One argument that some e/riels like to make is that Gwyn’s character is insignificant and thus cannot be paired with Azriel (a main character). I’ve even come across comments that deny her existence like “Who is gwyn? Can someone remind me who she is because I’ve read all the acotar books and i don’t recall this character at all.” 🤡🤡🤡
Well, let me just counter that argument.
*MAJOR Throne of Glass spoilers ahead!!!*
Let me introduce you to Yrene Towers - a new character that was introduced in Tower of Dawn (the 6th book of the TOG series). Once introduced, she is immediately given one of the three main POVs in TOD. Also, she ends up being Chaol’s (one of the main characters in the entire TOG series) forever person and marries him!! All within ONE BOOK!!
In Kingdom of Ash (final TOG book), Yrene was also the person who unalived one of the main antagonists of the TOG series.
Just based off Yrene’s arc, it is so apparent that SJM loves to introduce new characters into established plot lines and let them have impactful and heavy roles. The juncture of introduction does not matter at all.
Furthermore, from where we were left off in terms of Chaol’s arc right before Tower of Dawn, Chaol was still kind of hung up on Aelin and was looking into exploring something new with Nesryn. However, SJM decides to throw a curveball and make a completely new character his person in his book!
Another notable character is *Crescent City spoilers!!!* Lidia Cervos aka Agent Daybright. She did not have a heavy role in CC1 and it was only towards the end of CC2 that she was revealed to be Agent Daybright. She is also definitely going to be getting her own POV in CC3. My point is, again, you do not have to be an important person right from the start to be developed into a main character! This is just how SJM rolls.
I know many of us gwynriel enthusiasts are secure in our ship. I am too. It is just so frustrating to see people dismiss Gwyn as just a side piece in the grand scheme of things when SJM obviously has her set up to achieve great things.
I’d like to end this by saying that you can support Elriel or whichever other Azriel ship, to each their own! However, if you still think that Gwynriel is a crackship, you either have poor reading comprehension skills or you just love living in denial.

"Gwyn shouldn't be Azriel's second option"
By that logic, Rhys is Feyre's second option. Rowan is Aelin's fourth option, Yrene is Chaol's third option, Manon is Dorian's third option, Sartaq is Nesryn' second option, Vassa would be Lucien's third option, Azriel is Elain's second option and so is Elain actually Azriel's second option. It's the same as when people had a problem with Azriel training Gwyn, making it seem like a teacher- student relationship as if Rhys literally didn't teach Feyre how to read and write. Bffr.
At least gwynriels can recognize that gwynriel aren't in love and that they have yet to face their own demons to be anywhere near that point... Unlike some who immediatly screamed "married couple" as soon as Azriel and Elain were in the same room for the first time.
Make it make sense.

TOG characters as Speak Now lyrics
Aelin - Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?
Rowan - There is nothing I do better than revenge
Sam - Something's gone terribly wrong, won't finish what you started
Lysandra - I'm on my guard for the rest of the world
Elide - who you are is not where you've been, You're still an innocent
Manon - Long live all the mountains we moved I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
Nehemia - Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Lorcan - You, with your words like knives And swords and weapons that you use against me
Fenrys - Since a twist of fate, when it all broke down And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now
Dorian - You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
Chaol - So this is me swallowing my pride standing in front of you Saying I'm sorry for that night
Kaltain - But I never thought I'd live to see it break, It's getting dark and it's all too quiet And I can't trust anything now
Aedion - And I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe
Gavriel - And it was enchanting to meet you
Yrene - Left a small town, never looked back I was a flight risk, with a fear of fallin'
Nesryn - They keep watchful eyes on us So it's best that we move fast and keep quiet

Sarah J.Maas and her love for switching love interests
For all the people who say elriel will happen just to break up so Azriel can end up with his one true love and mate Gwyn (yes this is how silly this sounds like)
Sarah J maas loves switching love interests, and we all know that if we've read any of her series (well, maybe not Crescent City unless we count Connor)
One of the arguments a lot of Gwynriels bring up, is that yes Azriel has feelings for Elain but it's just lust (as if lust and love don't go hand in hand in the sjm universe) but here's the thing, Yes sjm loves switching love interests, but she usually allows them to be together for a book. Builds them up during that one said book, then something happens where they can't be together, mostly the guy is a dick, but sjm immediately has another guy lined up for her female main character. She doesn’t build up a couple over multiple books just to make them not end up together.
Dorian & Celaena= Didn't work out, but they were not built up for long. it was Celaena’s choice not to be in a relationship after their one kiss.
Chaol & Celaena = Chaol was a dick to Celaena. it was her choice to leave for the shit he did (you can correct me if I’m wrong)
Tamlin and Feyre = he was abusive, it was Feyre's choice to leave.
Now the only odd one out, Chaol and Nesryn...again they were not built up across multiple books, and it was Nesryn’s choice to leave, AND they both had other partners lined up for them.
Now in some hypothetical situation, sjm wants to follow the same formula.
Azriel will leave Elain for Gwyn after they get together for half a book and sure Azriel questioned fate for Elain but silly him he was wrong, Elain and Azriel both what? realize they only wanted to bone and now it's out of their system. So, Azriel flies to Gwyn, gets down on his knees to apologize for thinking he had feelings for another girl and Elain is left with what? She doesn’t like Lucien but we’ll say she does to fit this narrative, so she’ll run back to Lucien who's happily living away from her (with Vassa) to tell him she should have always trusted the mating bond? (Sarcasm)
If we are to believe sjm, and each book follows a couple how will all of this mess work…and again when will we have time for the plot. And what plot would we make of this.

As far as I am concerned the bonus put an end to Elriel , he stepped away from the kiss ... she gave back the necklace... he is shocked enough with Rhysands order that he gets out of there and doesnt look back...we haven't seen any sort of interaction from there between them at all ( TO be fair they had one conversation about Nestas suitor and her dance in the entire main book) but even otherwise nothing is mentioned about them from that point on.
So this whole big love triangle or Elain being involved in some great capacity in the Gwynriel equation isn't happening in my opinion ... at the Max there would be some internal monologue from Az .... Elain will be set up but in my opinion it will be an elucien set up of them being in close proximity... with the Autumn court plot Lucien might stay in the NC to help?
The point is SJM doesn't do "Love Triangles" even Chaol Nesryn and Yrene situation was done so tastefully.
IF MY PREDICTION IS RIGHT MOR WILL HAVE THE BIGGER CHUNK OF THE SUB PLOT IN THE GWYNRIEL BOOK ALONG WITH EMERIE ... WE GOT TO WAIT AND SEE BUT I THINK ITS A SAFE BET.

Flip the Switch - Rated E - 9.3k (listen, things got out of control)
Dorian was hoping this getaway would be what he needed to finally get Manon to agree to put a name on their relationship. Beautiful nature + chilly evenings = romance, right?

This was written for Kinktober 2023 - so smut is a given! Please read the tags on the fic! This is… very NSFW!
