I genuinely start laughing when people are like “Rhysand was only mad at Nesta because Nesta threw the fact that her and her baby would die in her face.” Did you read the book? Nesta told Feyre because she was angry, but she didn’t tell her to throw it in her face, she told her to avenge them both because people were keeping things from them, should she have done it like that? No absolutely not. But under no circumstances does Rhysand the man who preaches feminism and choices, get to be angry about anything.

Please remember SJM is a terrible writer
and that's why there's huge divides about characters and plots. It's not that we all interpret things differently, its that she didn't think that far ahead - or behind since she regularly retcons, SOMETIMES WITHIN THE SAME BOOK
She has old posts about romance stuff but that's it. The actual plot is secondary to her fantasy couples. Ofc its a romantacy so it'll focus on that, but you still need to have the basic skills of writing down, which she very clearly does not (despite it being 12 years since your first published book, seriously wtf are you doing??)
She's good at storytelling, she made cool characters and a cool setting, but she cannot write them
I love discussing characters, but with hers it's useless half the time because she cannot write consistent characters nor a cohesive narrative. She regularly changes character traits on the fly, and bends the narrative to serve her favs.
If you find yourself pulling your hair out, just know, so are her editors (whom she does not take feedback from, so really why are they there) 👍
Conclusion: ACOTAR (and her other books) weren't written to be books, they're just shared pieces of her personal fantasy and diaries, which would be fine if she didn't perpetuate terrible stereotypes and harmful relationships. - i also touch on the books being her personal self-inserts here but it's more jokey
It was clearly not meant to be a series, but with the success she made with the first, an edited (albeit very slightly) version of an old draft, she made more hence the latters being very disjointed.
I'd like to end with another reminder that SJM is a bad person, please do not support her upcoming books, if you really want to read them they'll be uploaded to some website after like 2 weeks anyway

A lot of things in ACOSF makes me angry.
The 'intervention'.
The forced training.
The entire baby plot.
Cassian stripping her of drinking (though she never experience withdrawals), sugar, music and general curtesy of leaving her alone, but somehow having sex with a woman at the beginning of the book everyone was mad at because she was having a lot of sex with other men is now fine?
The threat on her life for speaking the truth.
That dumb hike.
But Nesta getting on her KNEES to APOLOGISE to AMREN?!?!?!?!
Babe, get the fuck up.

Why are we reading these books anymore? What's the point? Is just to see how far SJM will go down the rabbit hole?

Rhysand is NOT morally grey, for fuck’s sake. I’m tired of the amount of people that jump to say “rHySaNd!!!” any time someone asks for recs for morally grey villains. I will downvote that shit on Reddit, idc. I’m petty and it’s just an incorrect statement.
Actual morally grey characters would include Kaz Brekker, Lestat de Lioncourt, maybe even Cardan Greenbriar. They don’t have an excuse or explanation for literally every single wrong thing they’ve done in their entire lives.
Rhysand, if anything, is morally brown, because his morals are shit and so is he.

Very tired of the shadowy/darkness-themed brooding male love interests in fantasy romance books. Especially the ones where the character revolves heavily around sex / sexualization.
This is especially irritating when they are 'healed' or complete as people because they are dating the protag. Seriously. It just promotes that toxic 'You can fix him with love' concept. This is such an inherently harmful message.
Not saying those kind of broody characters shouldn't be allowed to exist at all. However, the dominance of that character type over other portrayals in romance especially, subscribes to the common notion of masculinity having only one desirable form.
The main lead does not have to be the most powerful, the most virile, most tragic or most intimidating.
It's shallow and overdone.
Why can't the men and boys in these leads also be written as thoughtful and warm, sunlight characters. Soft hands and gentle voices. Complex and spirited and vibrant. Let them also be kind, lovely and full of quiet things.
I have so many thoughts on this general topic that go into way too many directions to summarize in one post.

One thing that makes me rage about ACOTAR every single day is that there is no mention at all about who did the household chores when Feyre was hunting.
It's canon that Feyre doesn't know how to cook. She doesn't do household work. She would spend the day in the forest hunting, which of course is a great thing in itself for a child( she was fourteen I think when she started hunting) but who took care of the house(hut).
Something tells me it wasn't Papa Archeron or Elain. In the first few chapters of Thorns and Roses Nesta had chopped wood twice(I think, it's been a while since I read the book). I'm assuming as there isn't much info about this that Nesta was the one to do all household work. There's cooking, cleaning, laundry, chopping wood, mending clothes, doing repairs around the house if required, groceries, and about a hundred other little tasks that keep a house running smoothly. Feyre didn't do it, Papa Archeron didn't do it, I can bet my life Elain didn't do it. Did magic faeries come to their house at night to do all this.
I don't understand where the narrative that Nesta was a spoiled and lazy girl who sat on her ass and didn't do anything came from. You know, my father had always told my sister and i, that whatever conflict we have between us, we should resolve it amongst ourselves. If you let a bunch of strangers know about the weaklinks in your relationships they will break you both apart. Of course, he tells us this due to our snake-ish relatives but honestly, when I had read about the relationship between the sisters, I wanted to scream at the book to not let the IC exploit their issues for personal gain. Which they did. That's exactly what Rhysand has been doing since he met the sisters.

Rhysand saying that him and Feyre need to show united front was so dumb especially when before that he had told Feyre that she could call him out and they they’re equals. Especially because this is about Nesta when Rhysand had said something and Feyre had stuck up for a Nesta as she should and Rhysand told her that they needed to show a united front in front of the inner circle and I’m sorry but no. That’s Feyre’s sister and if she doesn’t like what he’s saying then she has every right to say something. Also they were not in front of any other High Lords only the IC so what Rhysand was really saying was that he didn’t want to be corrected in front of his friends who are known for bullying Nesta.

I know we all want Elucien, justice for wronged characters, or just a good ship for once, but can we all agree we're not buying any new book SJM puts out?

I will never forgive Cassian for not standing up to Rhysand when he threatened to kill Nesta and just obeyed him to get her out of the city.

I’m will never stop thinking about how if rhysand and the IC were in TOG universe they would all be antagonists and hated by Aelin and her court
The whole plot would be about Aelin trying to save Feyre, Nesta and Elain from Rhysand and his bat bros and fix the Hewn City up
Manon would kill the bat bastard for not doing anything for the women Illyria

remember when
"Rhys bared his teeth. My limbs turned light, trembling at the dark power curling in the corners of the room. Not fear - never fear of him. But at the shattered control as Rhys snarled at Lucien, 'My mate may one day find it in her to forgive him. Forgive you. But I will never forget how it felt to sense her terror in those moments.' My cheeks heated, especially as Cassian and Azriel stalked closer, those hazel eyes now filled with a mix of sympathy and wrath.
Lucien, to his credit, didn't back away a step. From Rhys, from me, or the Illyrians.
The Clever Fox Stares Down Winged Death. The painting flashed into my mind."
(it's the "forgive you" for me lmfao like shut the actual fuck up)
he has the audacity to say this shit to lucien when two books prior -
"'You draw blood from me, Lucien, and you’ll learn how quickly Amarantha’s whore can make the entire Autumn Court bleed. Especially its darling Lady.'
'Oh? Here I was, thinking you still mourned your commoner lover after all these centuries,' Rhysand said, stalking toward me."
"'I knew you liked to stoop low with your lovers, Lucien, but I never thought you’d actually dabble with mortal trash.” My face burned. Lucien was trembling—with rage or fear or sorrow, I couldn’t tell. 'The Lady of the Autumn Court will be grieved indeed when she hears of her youngest son. If I were you, I’d keep your new pet well away from your father.'"
"'Amarantha will enjoy breaking her,' Rhysand observed to Tamlin. 'Almost as much as she'll enjoy watching you as she shatters her bit by bit.'"
Those invisible claws lazily caressed my mind again - then vanished. I sank to the floor, curling over my knees as I reeled in everything that I was, as I tried to keep from sobbing, from screaming, from emptying my stomach onto the floor. "
(damn. i wonder how it felt to feel her terror in those moments 🤔)
anyway, friendly reminder that rhysand is the biggest fucking hypocrite in the series and feyre & co's self-righteous attitudes are absolutely insufferable 🤗
