I think with the moon being related to he is because we don’t really know that much about it, or the universe, just like we can’t fully understand gender. We can try but they’re both just very very vast.

To answer your question about why the kids started dream sharing so young, it is mainly because of the trauma the three of them had gone through. This might sound like some really bad reasoning, but it is the reasoning for it according to some of my paper notes.

To elaborate, all three of the kids had suffered through some form of trauma, specifically with their abilities (not sure if I ever mentioned this or no but Tam manifested shortly before the dream sharing began but didn’t really realize it and so did Keefe) and a thing that can happen between soulmates is that if all soulmates had trauma, then they could start sharing dreams earlier than usual. This is to help both soulmates out, and is a sort of coping mechanism with your soul.

So it does have some to with Sophie’s abilities, but not entirely just her. The reason the kids don’t understand this is because of the fact that it’s pretty taboo.

Also, should clarify: one’s soulmate will be close to your age. However, not everyone gets romantically involved with their soulmate in real life, or even in dreams. Ex Alden and Quinlin are soulmates, but due to the views of the lost cities, they deny that they are soulmates to everyone and spend most of their dreams in silence for a long time. Or Elwin and Livvy, who are soulmates but are simply best friends for life. However, you do not need to be soulmates to be cognates.

I feel like you would write a platonic soulmate au and make the main gang soulmates for some reason. Like you do like the matching marks one. Feels like a thing you would do.

I suppose so, I just wonder what it is about the moon and space more specifically, because it's not the only field or area we don't fully understand. Perhaps its because it's also very present and visible, we can look up and see the moon and stars easily, but not say, all the atoms and particles composing us.

Also that makes sense! Trauma changes how your brain works and therefore how your dreamsharing works, I can follow that logic. Although I don't know if I would've realized the thing about it being connected to abilities as well. I was about to ask if the trauma had to be connected to their abilities, but realized probably not since dreamsharing doesn't seem to be a uniquely elven thing and other species don't have abilities. So it's probably just how it worked out for the three of them. Poor kids

The age thing makes sense as well, matches with what you wrote. And I do appreciate soulmate aus that acknowledge non-romantic connections, it's always nice to have that as someone without romantic attraction. And complexity in relationships! Alden and Quinlin deny their connection while Elwin and Livvy embrace it and have fun with it, there's so many different ways to have people in your life and I find soulmate aus are greatly enriched when they lean into that.

You're right though, a platonic/queerplatonic/non-romantic soulmate au that focuses on family is definitely something I would write. I actually don't know if I've ever written something explicitly romantic, nothing immediately comes to mind. I'm not against doing so, it's just not what I default to because it's not part of my personal experiences.

it's honestly so confusing to me because like,, you say that ppl pointing out how members of this fandom will make neil very stereotypically 'feminine' is reinforcing the idea of 'masculinity' as one thing and 'femininity' as another.... and i get that we should get rid of these labels. but at the same time... the content itself that ppl are criticising (the ones that 'feminize' neil) are already doing just that. that's why they're criticising it.

i can't point out how ppl are reinforcing the idea that a relationship should have a 'man' and a 'woman', without... saying that that's what they're doing. the writer themselves already sees relationships this way and 'masculinity' and 'femininity' as two different distinct things. that's exactly *why* they're writing neil this way while keeping andrew close to canon.

there's nothing wrong with neil being stereotypically 'feminine' of course. but to act like it's somehow misogynistic for me to go to these ppl and be like 'hey, u shouldn't view mlm relationships through the lens of a hetero one! it can be very harmful' is weird to me... *especially* considering these stereotypes that ppl are pushing onto neil come from misogyny themselves. (ppl making neil much much more emotional than he is in canon while keeping andrew very stoic)

there's an undeniable reason that neil is exclusively the one that ppl pick to make more stereotypically 'feminine'. and there's a reason this type of content is also so popular. and it's certainly not wrong to point this out.

You know, I can see all of these points that you're making. For me, the overall issue of this is very complicated. I am also super uncomfortable with the imposition of heteronormative roles onto...well, onto any relationship, regardless of the identities of the people who constitute it. I was raised smack dab in the middle of the gay community by lesbian moms (together 38 years now, jfc, can you imagine??), so that "man/woman" thing was never something that I grew up internalizing or normalizing. I can recognize that this may give me a bit too much of a sense of objectivity.

However, I'm also like...I've been ruined by grad school. The "feminizing" word makes me really uncomfortable because it starts to stray for me into gender essentialism territory. It also seems to foundationally differentiate between "masculine" behaviors and "feminine" behaviors and I just really hate that? Lesbian moms, trans daughter, bi (and late-in-life trying to see where on the ace spectrum I might fall) self, I've just met so many people with so many expressions of gender and sexuality and I just... Idk, I automatically resist anything that feels like it's upholding "masculinity" and "femininity" as real (as in, not constructed) things. And then I also am like, well, I've known SO MANY gay men who behaved in the ways that the discourse constructs as "feminized" and then I start to feel like, what about these men? Are they less 'men' because of it? How would it feel for that man to read these things saying his identity expression was a problem or a bad stereotype? Do I read *Neil Josten* within that context... no, not really. I think Neil has a 'not enough emotional expression' problem way before he has a 'too much emotional expression' problem.

I'll say here what I often say to my students in complex discussions: I don't have answers. I don't think I'm right and anyone else is wrong. I just have complicated thoughts and feelings and concerns about some of the things that sometimes seem to be left uninterrogated.

So, I do 100% get the need to be vigilant about the imposition of a "man" (dominant, emotionally constipated, sexually driven, stoic) role and "woman" (emotional, needy, teary, dependent) role onto relationships with two (or more!) men or women. I would also argue that we need to get rid of that idea in hetero relationships, too, because it's super damaging. I just wish we could find a way to talk about that that didn't feel like it was accepting this idea of femininity as a given? And I definitely agree that it's problematic when the 'bottom' in a relationship is depicted as the one who's soft and silly and weepy. (Have you read TJ Klune's Tales from Verania series? A VERY fun world that does that not at all and it's great). I'm not saying these things are not worth confronting--I'm just really uncomfortable with the way the conversations are often framed around a concept of femininity/feminizing. It feels like shrapnel, I guess? Like, 'ugh stop feminizing Neil he's not weepy and uwu he's a badass' feels inherently to me like it's making femininity and badassery mutually exclusive? Maybe I'm just looking for a caveat or footnote in the argument that acknowledges that that is constructed *for women too*? And is a part of, like, a larger heteronormative patriarchal structure? And not something that we can just all obviously agree is the way the ladies (should?) behave?

One other question I've been dying to ask, though, is: where are these fics? I don't think I've ever read something where Neil is crying over Jack being mean to him or anything. Maybe if I start to see hints of that characterization, I just close the tab and never end up getting to the 'worst' of it?

Although, if what you said earlier about the "content that u make/consume and it's practically, if not entirely, all andreil conforming to heternormative stereotypes..." was referring to me, then... idk what to say to that. I don't think that's what I do. The heteronormative relationship that you're describing isn't one that I enjoy, desire for myself (or anyone else), or have any interest in reproducing.

Does this clarify what I'm trying to say? I guess it's a really long way of saying, in the old insufferable grad school tradition: well, first we have to define our terms. Because I'm not sure we're all coming up with the same thing when we use the word "feminizing" and that probably has a lot to do with why we keep having this exact same conversation over and over and over again.

If I missed any specific point you'd like to pick at in more detail, please let me know--my very sad platonic life partner (who had to put her beloved 15-year-old poodle to sleep yesterday) and her mom are waiting for me to drive them to the stores for a distraction, so I'm feeling a little time pressure.

BnHA Chapter 289: Looks Like the Gang’s All Here

Previously on BnHA: Horikoshi was all “you guys don’t really need to know what’s gonna happen to Deku and Shouto right now” and cut away to Toga and Ochako before anyone could get a word in. Skeptic utilized the power of Freak Shounen Coincidence to magically zero in on Ochako and Tsuyu amongst the fleeing crowd. Toga was all “IS THAT OCHAKO” and immediately leaped down to fight them, ignoring Spinner’s heartfelt speeches about Villain Found Family because fight now, hug later!! Down in the streets of some unidentified crumbling city, Ochako was approached by a sweet old lady and was all “I better help this sweet old lady who is definitely not leading me into a trap”, which unfortunately turned out to be poor decision-making on her part. Anyway so now she and Toga are going to throw down. AND ALSO, P.S., BEST JEANIST IS STILL ALIVE, and that doesn’t really have anything to do with anything right now, but BY GOLLY I JUST HAD TO SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS.

Today on BnHA: Iida and Hadou are all “is it our turn yet”, and Horikoshi is all “yes”, and so the two of them finally burst onto the scene and are all “hello Shouto, Gigantomachia is on his way, btw do you need help” and so they all get ready to fight Tomura together. Meanwhile in Unnamed Ochako And Toga Fight Town, Toga is all “what’s up Ochako, oh is this the All Might doll Deku gave you, I guess you must like Deku as well, just like me, we truly are the same, btw I can use other people’s quirks now” before she vanishes in a flurry of knives and ambiguity, as mysteriously as she came. So that’s a thing that happened. The chapter ends with Gigantomachia and the League STOMPIN’ ONTO THE SCENE, JUST IN TIME FOR ENDEAVOR TO WAKE UP AND BE ALL “OHHHHH SHIT.” YOU’RE DAMN RIGHT, “OH SHIT.” Finally the pieces are in place for Dabi to reveal his true identity to Hadou and Iida, JUST LIKE WE ALL EXPECTED.

Haikyuu! Scenario

Prompt: Reacting to their crush saying “I love you”

Hinata: Hinata would be happy and uncontrollably embarrassed at the same time. He’d be feeling too many emotions at once and would come close to combusting. In the end, he’d give you the brightest smile and accept your feelings. He’d go on to confess that he felt the same way about you and would like to be your boyfriend. When you inevitably agree to his question, he’d proudly proclaim that he’ll plan the first date and would quickly exchange numbers with you before rushing off to volleyball practice. He’s nervous throughout the entire day as he thinks about possible date plans and ends up having to ask other’s for help. The only useful person he finds is Suga, who after a bit of teasing and questioning, offers him some solutions. The date turns out to be fun, and this time Hinata asks you to plan future dates together.

Kageyama: Kageyama wouldn’t know how to react if his crush told him they loved him. He’s bad at feelings and communication and he believed no one, much less his crush, would grow to like him. Moreover, it took him a long time to come to terms with and accept his own feelings for you. When the moment arrives that his crush confessed their feelings, he’d be still in shock and confusion. You’d have to wait a few seconds as he processed everything and thought about how to reply. He’d probably have a scrunched up face because he’s so deep in thought. Finally he’d slowly nod in acceptance and confess his own feelings with a bit of a stutter and pink cheeks. You’d be the one to plan the first date, but he’d like it if you asked for his opinion and make sure he was free before setting things in motion. He’s a bit nervous at the start, but begins to relax the longer it goes on.

Kuroo: Kuroo would be a bit embarrassed by the situation like any normal person would, but he would accept the confession relatively easily. It wouldn’t be completely incident free however. While trying to articulate his own feelings and confess to you that he felt the same way, he’d stumble over his words and would occasionally break eye contact to look away if the situation got too overwhelming for him to handle. When it comes to who plans the date, it’s a combination effort. He works hard to come up with a date that takes into account both of your interests and is constantly asking you if the plan is okay. He also messages Daichi to see if he has any ideas about what could work. The date turns out wonderfully.

Kenma: Kenma wouldn’t know how to react to the confession. He’s not the best at communicating with people, especially when it comes to the feelings of others. It had taken him a long time to come to terms with his own feelings for you. He’d always known you were special to him but he struggled to figure out whether his feelings for you were platonic or romantic. Everything he knew about his own feelings came crashing down upon him when you confessed you liked him too. He would get mildly embarrassed and would confess he felt the same way. Afterwards, he’d return to normal like nothing happened and your first date would unintentionally be a shared night of video games at his house.

Bokuto: Bokuto would take a moment to process the confession before smiling brightly at you and accepting your feelings with a flushed face. He’d confess that he felt the same way about you and would ask to start dating you immediately. The entire situation would be flying by so quickly and the two of you would be dating before you fully realized he asked you out. Throughout that process, he’d be in a daze, unless he’s at practice, and his teammates began to worry. Akaashi eventually asks, and after a quick excitement filled description, Akaashi ends up helping Bokuto plan the perfect first date. The two of you have a lot of fun

Akaashi: Akaashi would be a bit embarrassed by the confession, but would accept it with a soft smile and confess he felt the same way. Despite his calm facade, he’s internally freaking out and trying to decipher what led you to liking him. Once you smile at him happily, he’d calm down and would officially ask you to date him and become a couple. He’d take the initiative to plan the first date. He’s not an expert on relationships so after choosing the perfect place, he does a little bit of research on how a couple should act. In the end, he decides to ignore the advice he found on the internet and wounds up having fun on the date

Iwaizumi: Iwaizumi would remain silent for a moment as his face gradually darkens in colour. He’s seen people confess before, and he’s seen girls flock around Oikawa whilst proclaiming their affection for him, but he’s never had a person confess to him, much less one of his crushes. He’d accept your feelings while avoiding eye contact with you as he tries to calm down his heart. As the pink on his face begins to disappear, he officially asks you to be in a relationship and he works together with you to plan the best first date. The date turns out wonderful and he loved every moment of it

Oikawa: Oikawa would accept the confession easily, but his feelings would be evident in his slightly pink face and his inconsistent eye contact with you. He’s been confessed to plenty of times, but his crush’s confession would be a different experience for him entirely. A moment of self-doubt crosses across his mind about his worth accompanied by worry for your safety. Those thoughts are quickly crushed when he looks over at you watching him, waiting to clarify what happens next. He’d clear his throat and would smile softly at you before officially asking to date you. He plans the first date and he drags you to all the places he likes and you enjoy the entire date

Ushijima: Ushijima would accept the confession easily and would confess he feels the same way about you. The moment isn’t anything special, and it’s relatively simple, but he thinks that the simplicity of the moment is what makes it important. A stray thought about why you chose him crosses his mind, but he pays it no mind, and instead chooses to smile softly at you. You have to be the one to officially clarify the two of you are dating and you plan the first date. He enjoys the date that you planned and he likes that it helps him learn more about you

Tendou: Tendou would be inexplicably happy at the confession and would have a huge smile. The worry that it’s a prank crosses his mind because of his childhood and the teasing he constantly received because of his looks. However, when he looks down at you watching him nervously, that thought is abandoned and he confesses he feels the same way about you. He officially asks the two of you to date, and he’s the one to plan the first date. A part of him wants to just read shone jump in his room together, but the other part tells him to go on a stereotypical first date with you. In the end, you decide between the two options and you both have fun

Atsumu: Atsumu would be shocked at first, but that shock would quickly fade away to be replaced by happiness. Atsumu has been confessed to on several occasions by people fascinated by his looks or his volleyball skills, and for a moment he’s worried the same is occurring. His happiness begins to dwindle away at that thought and he asks what you like about him. After you explain your feelings for him, he’d confess that he felt the same way about you. It would take a while before the two of you go on your first date, but when he has enough time, he plans a date he thinks both of you can enjoy

Osamu: Osamu would be a bit confused at the start. He’d briefly wonder if you mixed him up with Atsumu and he mentally prepared himself for that moment. When you questioningly called out his name because he wasn’t responding, he’d apologize for his silence and would confess that he held the same feelings for you. He’d be a bit curious about what you liked about him and would ask you. After you explain your feelings for him, he’d smile a little bit more and would officially ask you to be his lover. He’d take you to the best food establishments for your first date

I know canonically Atsumu didn’t have a lot of friends, but I do think he’s probably received a few confessions because of his looks. He does have fangirls after all

This is not a trixic culture post, but You are so kind and i have a question about atraction, like what is platonic atraction? And the other atractions that are not romantic, i don't understand very well and i really want to know

Okay so sorry if I’m wrong here but I’m assuming you’re asking about tertiary attraction, which is attractions that aren’t romantic or sexual. If you are then I’m just going to mention you might want to check out https://lgbta.wikia.org/wiki/Tertiary_Attraction <- this link, or there is a tertiary culture is blog as well that you might want to check out. I will still try my best to explain some of the different attractions for you though, but sorry if this isn’t what you were asking or if it’s worded weird.

(All of these attractions are going to be more emotional attraction than physical attraction since the ask did ask for things that aren’t romantic instead of aren’t romantic or sexual, so i figured we should stay in the emotional lane)

So I guess I’ll start with platonic attraction since that’s one that you specifically mentioned- Platonic attraction is the desire to be friends with a specific person. So if there’s someone who either you don’t talk to or don’t talk to a lot but you really want to be their friend then you’d be platonically attracted to them. Though, even if you’re already friends with someone, but it’s a friendship that isn’t very close, the desire to become closer friends could also be considered platonic attraction. So basically platonic attraction is like the friend attraction in a way.

Alterous attraction is also something you might be interested in too - Alterous attraction is basically a type of attraction that’s neither platonic nor romantic. This one is really hard to define since it’s definition can be different for everyone. I personally don’t think I experience alterous attraction, I’m honestly not quite sure, but with that in mind, I would describe it as if you definitely feel some sort of strongish way towards someone, and it’s a positive feeling, but you don’t think that attraction is platonic or romantic. I can either be entirely separate from platonic attraction and romantic attraction all together or it could be somewhere in between the two. (After looking into it there seems to be a word to describe if the attraction is explicitly disconnected from platonic and romantic attractions and that term is exteramo attraction)

You might also be interested in queerplatonic - Queerplatonic attraction is the desire to be in a queerplatonic relationship with someone, a queerplatonic relationship, or QPR for short, is a relationship that isn’t quite platonic and isn’t quite romantic. How that looks varies from person to person, and both QPRs and QP attraction both don’t really have a set definition or requirements on how to define it, if that makes sense. The lgbta wiki says it “can be very similar to platonic attraction and alterous attraction” it also says “queerplatonic attraction an be considered an extension of platonic attraction” but like I said before it’s really up to each person how they define these types of feelings for themselves.

I should probably add that most of these are either text book definitions or how I personally see these types of attractions, but honestly it can vary from person to person. Finding the difference between some attractions is really hard for many people and a lot of the time the line between them is blurred. I tried my best to be as accurate as possible, though but if anything still isn’t clicking I’d suggest to look into different perspectives as well as mine just to see how other people in interpret it. Also, I know I said at the beginning of this that I wasn’t exactly sure if you were asking about tertiary attraction and all that, so if you ever need me to clarify you can just send in another ask if you’re so inclined (though if you do I suggest starting it by saying your the attraction question anon or something along those lines so I know it’s a continuation of this). Orbit | Spencer Reid x Reader Platonic

Ayyyy this is for @veraiconcos fic writer palooza! I had a ton of fun working on this, check out their post for more details!

Summary: Since joining the BAU you have easily become one of Spencer’s best friends, and he is terrified he is going to lose you. (Gender neutral reader, platonic soulmates).

Spencer Reid didn’t have to be a genius to know he was sporting some abandonment issues. In his defense, though, he had been left by too many prominent people in his life and he was only 27 years old.

Even though he had only known you for a short while, you had easily secured a spot as one of his favorite people. As much as he enjoyed spending time with you and liked that he could be unapologetically himself, it terrified him that he could be so comfortable with you.

He wanted to shut down and shut you out, not let you see the broken pieces left by his father, Elle, and Gideon, but every time he tried you would do something so unapologetically you that it was impossible to stop feeling like the universe had created the two of you for the sole purpose of knowing the other.

It was the twinkle in your eye when you would remind Morgan that you were authorized to carry a larger gun than he was. It was the way you perched on Spencer’s desk while debating the best way to eat an Oreo. It was the pen you always carried that Spencer suspected was for him because you preferred pencil.

You were the one person Spencer felt most relaxed around, and there was still the looming possibility that you could choose to leave.

It wasn’t until the Anthrax case that Spencer realized how much he was afraid of you leaving. When he woke up in the hospital Morgan was the only one there, and your absence was the first thing he noticed. He should have felt grateful that Morgan had chosen to stay and he felt guilty that he was upset about your absence until you showed up with as many jello cups as you could possibly carry.

“Oh good, you’re awake. Red or green?” Your words had been so casual and comfortable, exactly what Spencer needed as Derek filled him in on how the case had ended. You listened quietly from his other side, spooning sugary gelatin into your mouth.

Spencer wanted to tell you then how much he was afraid of you leaving, but he also didn’t want to speak it into existence. He decided to keep his mouth shut about it, let the secret fester in his soul until he figured out a better way to deal with it.

Then you went to Canada.

At first you were on the streets with Derek and Emily while Spencer stayed at the precinct to go over victimology. You called him right after you were done talking to the locals and on your way to meet back up with Morgan and Prentiss.

“I don’t know, Spence. Something about this feels off,” you told him when he asked how it had gone.

“How so?” he trusted your instincts, if you were able to pinpoint your source of uncertainty it could help him nail down the victimology.

“Everyone out here is being hyper vigilant. Nobody’s wandering off on their own, as far as I can tell. I don’t think this is just some guy who killed 10 people. There’s something bigger going on here, we just have to figure out what.”

As a man of science, Spencer was still working out how you knew the things you did from just a gut feeling. He wasn’t surprised when you were right.

Once the team had a better scope of things at the farm, Hotch assigned you and Spencer to learn as much as you could about Lucas Turner. After coming up empty in the house, it was your idea to check the barn. A comfortable, but serious silence fell between you as you found what you were looking for.

You were looking over his shoulder at the crayon drawing he was holding when Hotch came to check in on your findings.

“Hey Hotch,” you called to your unit chief as he started walking away, “do you ever get the feeling that a case isn’t going to end well?” Spencer wondered what cosmic events had to have occurred to give him the pleasure of knowing someone who mirrored his own thoughts so perfectly.

“Keep looking,” Hotch had said sternly before leaving, “this girl needs us.”

“That wasn’t the answer I was hoping for,” you sighed, turning back to the collection of objects in the barn.

“What did you want him to say?”

“Something validating, I guess. Sure, this girl needs us and I’m not saying we won’t find her, but even if she’s alive there’s still what- a hundred victims already dead? A hundred victims with families and lives. A hundred people…”

You were right, Spencer knew that. If he had learned anything while working with you, it was that your gut feelings usually had some merit to them. If you were feeling like this wasn’t going to end well, it probably wasn’t. He wondered if you would stay with the BAU if you were right, and with that came back the creeping fear he had been trying to avoid.

He didn’t have time to dwell on the fact that he hadn’t processed his issues with your abandonment he wasn’t even sure was coming.

You took the Metro home with him, he didn’t have to ask to know that you were too tired to drive and could take the metro back to work once you were better rested.

“Spencer,” you had murmured sleepily from the seat next to him in the almost empty car.

“Hmmm?”

“This might sound really stupid, but do you ever feel like we were meant to be friends?”

Spencer swore his heart skipped a beat. All the mathematical equations in the world couldn’t explain the way you seemed to know exactly what he was thinking.

“There's an old Buddhist saying that when you meet your soulmate, remember that the act to bring you together was 500 years in the making,” he quipped, “but yes. I do.”

“So you think we’re soulmates?” you smirked.

“Assuming one perfect soulmate exists for every person on the planet and you’re in the same age range as your soulmate, there’s still 500 million potential candidates. Mathematically speaking, of course.”

Your eyes sparked at the debate, though your eyelids were still heavy “I thought there was 500 years of prep work behind it though. 500 years is long enough to filter through 500 million. That’s one million a year.”

“If I wasn’t convinced we were soulmates before, your math skills have sealed the deal.”

“Of course they have. I’m smarter than I look,” you boasted.

“Is intelligence something you can determine by appearance?”

“You tell me, genius. I think you look pretty smart.”

“You know, (y/n), I think you’re just as smart as I am,” he told you honestly. You furrowed your brow in confusion.

“Are you kidding? I failed high school Algebra twice.”

“Academic achievement isn’t the only way to measure intelligence,” he reminded you, “the way your brain works is exceptional.”

“Not right now, it isn’t. I feel like mush. Do cases stop hitting this hard once you’ve been doing this for a while?”

“No, my brain feels like mush too.”

“Go home and get some sleep, ok?” you instructed when it was your stop. Spencer waved as you walked away.

He saw you again sooner than he thought, insomnia not allowing him to sleep so he was the first to receive JJ’s call. He took the Metro to your apartment, knocking on the door until you answered. He was surprised at how quickly you were ready to go, knocking your elbow into his as you left your building to go back into work.

“Old habits, I guess,” you shrugged when he brought it up. It ended up being the most casual interaction of your day, another whirlwind of a case happening with the whole team running on not much sleep.

While Spencer stayed with Dr. Barton to go over medical charts, you went to the school with Morgan and JJ to protect Jeffrey. It was irrational, he knew, but he couldn’t help but wish you were still with him to work on building the profile.

He didn’t want to admit it (he wanted the team to focus on the gunned down unsub and Dr. Barton), but he was glad you were the first one by his side when you finally made it back to the doctor’s house. You stayed with him, even when he told the team about Hotch. In fact, you didn’t leave his side the entire ambulance ride and his time at the hospital.

JJ came into his hospital room a few times to update the two of you on Hotch’s situation, and every time he expected you to leave with her but you didn’t. When he was released from the hospital you drove him home, helping him up to his apartment. Once he was settled, you busied yourself making his home more accessible for the injured man.

Spencer felt sort of awkward as you hummed to yourself, and rightly so. You hadn’t spent much time outside of work together and now he was stuck on his couch with limited mobility. All things considered though, he really didn’t want you to go. He didn’t want you to leave his apartment, he didn’t want you to leave the BAU, and he didn’t want you to leave his life like so many other people that he cared about had.

In a stroke of genius, he realized that he had to tell you. He had to open up the possibility for you to stay to figure out if you were going to leave.

“(y/n)?” he called to you as you finished up putting away his clean dishes in the kitchen.

“What’s up?”

“If I asked you to stay, would you?”

There was a moment of silence that Spencer quickly realized was you moving through his small apartment to grab your bag before you happily joined him on the couch, sitting down carefully as to not jostle his leg.

“Of course I would, did you think I was leaving?”

Spencer blushed, “I don’t know… people who I care about have a tendency to leave.” He watched your features soften.

“Spencer,” you started, “I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving you.”

You didn’t need to clarify further, you both knew the weight your words held and it relieved the tension Spencer had been sporting since the beginning of your friendship like a weighted blanket relieves anxiety.

“Do you want to watch this movie I got from the library about alien abductions in Alaska? I’ve heard it’s super creepy and I didn’t really want to watch it alone anyways.”

Spencer grinned at your suggestion, “there was actually a study that showed that people who claimed to be abducted by aliens were predisposed to sleep paralysis and hypnosis. Should we order some food? When was the last time you ate?”

rec list for endhawks gems

as usual during this quarantine, i went through a challenging quest, searched through every single fic on ao3 about a single ship and made a rec list, ended up with around 25 works out of 630. nearly all of them should be free of explicit, problematic and triggering content besides one or two in the mature content sense. and i’ll note those down separately but i always suggest reading the tags before starting a fic regardless the rating, just so you know what you’re diving into. furthermore, there’s this author note at the end of a fic that i’ve found which pretty much sums up my feelings about a mess that’s called todoroki friggin’ enji:

“ I love Hawks and Endeavor together. They're a great dynamic, whether it's platonic or not. I'm a pretty open guy when it comes to shipping, and me and a certain lilviathan love going back and forth with dumb ideas about them.

WELL SINCE AITSF IS ON SALE:

i did really enjoy ai the somnium files, so in general here’s some direct comparisons to ZE; sliiiight spoilers? not direct, kind of in a “warning” way at most:

horniness level hasn’t changed. even more central, even.

while a lot of the female characters are good, yeah, there’s a lot of sexualization and it just leaves... a weird taste in your mouth... and some weird misogynist shit just is never challenged.

1. canon gay characters/couple, 2. it’s a murder mystery game. so connect those dots as you will. that being said, it’s interesting and plot relevant and doesn’t wank about misery, and the other characters are all fully supportive of LGBT people, it’s refreshing to see that part

trans woman character; i can’t call the shots here but i assume she falls into some weird tropes, it’s kind of clumsy (for example, she’s EXTREMELY flirty and hitting on men in a way where the men will get kind of creeped out by it)

and, i cannot stress this enough: glorification of corrupt police. the entire premise focuses around a special subdivision of cops that can enter your mind to search for evidence. while it “requires consent,” this is often obtained in the game under duress. characters will get annoyed at citizens expressing their rights. while the game acknowledges higher-up cops in the system as corrupt and fucked up, it fails to interrogate its main characters for abusing their power. the ethics of psyncing and exploring someone’s psyche to implicate them are hardly addressed.

the character writing, though, is really good. you’ll see some recurring tropes in uchikoshi work. the game is more ‘open’ than the closed off, claustrophobic (both spatially and temporally) ZE series, and it gives more room to work

interesting and earnestly written familial/platonic relationships!

still does delve into science, but it’s a bit different than ZE; it’s not as concerned with grounding it in reality as 999 was, which i don’t think is a bad thing, just a different thing. leans away from timeline mechanics (mostly) and into questions of the mind/identity/self.

visually it’s a very pretty game; certainly above vlr and ztd aesthetically

gameplay segments are time-based but not in a way that FEELS like it’s time based. as someone who fucking hates time-based games, i really enjoyed it.

and below i’d suggest not reading if you’re trying to avoid spoilers

a pretty expected degree of ableism if you’ve played ZE, it doesn’t change much here.

antagonist is pretty weakly written, although the mechanics of the ‘twist’/setup are interesting to me

inclusion of an idol/etc but not a fully satisfying critique of idol culture, which i think would’ve... helped?

Its been a long time since Tony has done this but sometimes things just feel a little more out of control and this is an easy way to get some of that back ethically. Plus he enjoys it, maybe more than he should. Its not like he’s never considered why he likes the control so much, if that means he’s controlling, and then by extension just like Howard but he’s long ago come to the conclusion that that’s not it. He doesn’t want to control someone per se, what he wants is control over a situation. The fact that other people are involved it more a symptom of how he chose to go about gaining that level of control. And he’s always taken care to not take that away from whoever he’s with because, as Pepper pointed out, he’s not much like Howard if you look further than skin deep.

Still, he hadn’t initially planned to just throw himself back into one of these things, mostly he was catching up with Sam and feeling things out but then he saw Peter. Sam’s not stupid, he knows his type, so he said he’d work something out. And Peter, fuck he’s perfect. A little inexperienced for his taste, and a little on the young side, but Tony is willing to look past that on account of he knows he’s not going to get anything better. He’d done this enough times to be able to pick up on small signs of compatibility and Peter might be inexperienced, but Tony happens to know he’s got more of a submissive side than he knows. Makes sense, for his age, that he hasn’t figured that out quite yet. At his age he’s probably still experimenting with things.

Normally experience is something he prefers but in this case he made an exception. The way Peter responded proved him right enough that he’s not entirely worried about it beyond Peter finding his voice. But the way he’d responded to Tony, handing over his other wrist without him having to ask, lifting his head a little so Tony could put the blindfold on, the way his uncomfortable squirming immediately stopped when Tony had settled a hand on his knee. Yeah, Tony knows Peter will be more than compatible with what he’s looking for.

As it is he’s disappointed that he’s going to have to wait until later to see Peter again but they both have things to do. Maybe this is one of those situations where patience pays off. Tony doubts it on account of he’d be just as excited if not more if Peter showed up now, but he’ll take what he can get. There’s also the slight disappointment of stretching things out a bit, giving Peter time to adjust to something new rather than jumping right into it but its necessary. Tony wants to give him time to gain a level of trust in him before he starts taking away his senses and leaving him to rely more on Tony than not. If he were more experienced it wouldn’t be much of a problem, but he’s not so Tony needs to start fresh.

Not ideal, considering his usual impatience, but he knows that it’ll be well worth it to wait for Peter to catch up.

Peter bites his lip, unsure what to expect aside from what Tony told him in the beginning. He does have to admit that having his own key is pretty cool, mostly because Tony’s penthouse is nice as hell. “I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing,” he hisses at Liz over the phone.

She sighs, “didn’t you say he like… gave you an outline of what to expect?” she asks.

He rolls his eyes, “if I gave you an outline of child birth do you think it’d prepare you?” he asks.

Liz snorts, “Peter, that’s such a guy thing to say. This is in no way comparable to child birth. But your point is taken. We should throw a party there, seems like a swanky place,” she says like Peter doesn’t desperately need this job.

“Liz, I have hospital bills to pay,” he points out.

“I’m kidding Peter, mostly. But if he’s a dick we can totally trash the place, you know MJ would do it in a heartbeat.” True, and Peter loves her for it but Tony has been more than polite so far and he’s talked to some of the other people Sam employs. Turns out he’s a real stickler for not being a douchebag and he takes his employee concerns very seriously so he’s gained a bit of trust that this won’t turn into a massive shit show.

“I actually think he’s pretty nice,” Peter says, looking over the directions to the room Tony told him his stuff was in. For an apartment this place is a fucking maze.

“Yeah, he hires prostitutes, how nice can he be?” Liz says, distain in her voice.

Peter frowns, “you know I’m the prostitute, right?”

“Obviously, Peter.”

“Yeah, well acting like only losers and assholes pick up prostitutes doesn’t exactly make the job less stigmatizing. Maybe he doesn’t have time for a relationship, or doesn’t want one, you don’t know.” He does know that Tony doesn’t want a relationship with him, which is fine because he doesn’t want one with Tony either. Aside from you know, a good relationship with the guy who is also his boss, technically. God, this is messy.

The good news is that he finds the room finally and breathes out a sigh of relief as he steps inside and goes on the hunt for his outfit. Thankfully Tony has laid it out on the bed for him so he doesn’t need to go far.

“Okay, but do like… normal guys go to prostitutes?” she asks and Peter frowns.

“Yeah, probably. Why is it that sex for money somehow makes the sex dirtier or whatever? Its not like being in a relationship is free and you’re totally financially independent of them unless you make good money. Even platonic relationships don’t escape that, remember the time we all talked Ned out of moving across the country to live with his girlfriend because we’ve be fucked for rent? Anyway, I just think that paying someone to have sex with you is hardly demeaning or whatever.”

He picks up the white teddy and frowns at it for a moment, unsure how that’ll look on him. The pink frilly booty shorts are cute, though, even if they’re not something he’d pick out for himself. He shrugs and tosses Liz on the bed so he can change.

“Yeah but like. Can guys who go to prostitutes even get relationships?” Liz asks and Peter snorts.

“The sheer amount of politicians that go to prostitutes say yeah, they get into relationships just fine. Like, what is the correlation people draw between prostitution and not being able to get sex for free? Is it really less degrading to pick someone up at a bar when you’ve only known them for a half an hour? At least I get paid for my trouble now, my last Tinder date was shit in bed and I paid for dinner.” That was like, forever ago but still. He’d consider what he’s doing now considerably less degrading than that. Tony buys nice lingerie and, to Peter’s surprise, it actually looks pretty nice on him.

He fully expects Liz to have some kind of response for that but she remains silent for a moment. “I guess you make a point there. Did you figure out where you were supposed to go?” she asks.

“Yeah. Also, turns out I look cute lingerie,” he says.

The squeal of surprise is unexpected but more pleasant than their last discussion so he’ll take it. “Send me a picture!” she says and he frowns. “In like. A not sexual way,” she clarifies.

“Is that like… normal for girls? Do you guys just send each other pictures of yourselves in lingerie?” Because that seems like a dream world to him, throw some guys in there and he’s in bisexual heaven.

“Sometimes. Guys don’t do that?” she asks.

Peter squints as he opens the camera app. “Liz, in what world do guys where lingerie?” he asks.

“This one if you’re to be believed,” she points out.

Right, good point. “You know what I mean. No, guys don’t just send each other random pictures in sexy clothing. I sent the picture and if you make fun of me I’ll move and screw you all for rent,” he tells her.

She remains silent for a moment before she makes a small, approving noise. “That actually does look good on you,” she says. “What the fuck.”

“What the fuck what?” he asks, checking himself out in the mirror. He… didn’t expect to actually like this but he doesn’t mind.

“That style of lingerie looks like total shit on me and I’m mad it looks good on you,” she says. Peter grins because jealousy is a good emotion to have in this case. And if Liz thinks he looks good Tony definitely will.

“Die mad about it,” he tells Liz, who snorts and starts laughing.

“Don’t let the lace give you too much confidence,” she tells him despite the fact that he’s not wearing any lace. Its more of a sheer gossamer material that shines a little and compliments his skin nicely. He thought the white on his pale as shit skin would make him look like a fucking ghost but instead he looks etherial. Huh, so maybe this is why women like lingerie so much.

He chats back and forth with Liz for a few more minutes but she has to do homework and frankly so does he so they hang up to go do that. And Peter means to do homework, really, but the closet beckons and he has to hang up the clothes he changed out of anyway so he goes over to check it out.

His opinions on Tony’s taste mostly improve minus the yellow… thing that’s probably the most hideous shade of yellow Peter has ever seen. But the rest? Its clear that Tony has a thing for red and black, which makes his current outfit kind of a strange choice and that makes him curious but he does like most of the rest of the stuff in the closet. There’s a few things that are… well, strappy enough that he’s confused how to put them on, and a couple things that don’t look that great, but otherwise Tony clearly has talent in aesthetics.

“I didn’t think you’d take to the lingerie,” someone says and Peter lets out an accidental scream and tosses the garment thats in his hand. He turns to find Tony in the doorway looking amused.

“Oh my god, give a guy a warning!” he says, hand pressed to his heart.

Tony doesn’t look any less amused, eyes bright as he looks Peter over. “That looks nice on you,” he says, gesturing vaguely at him.

Peter looks down at himself and grins, “it does, doesn’t it? I was worried I’d come out looking like fucking Casper but thankfully that was not the case,” he says.

Tony snorts and starts laughing, “god, its been forever since someone has referenced that around me. I’m kind of surprised you even know what Casper is,” he says.

Peter doesn’t mean to say it but it slips out anyway. “Okay, boomer,” he says out of pure instinct and thankfully Tony bursts out laughing.

“One, I’m not that old. Two, you always this sassy or is this new?”

“Um. Depends, usually its a comfort thing. Sorry I called you a boomer,” he says.

“Its fine. The youths know how to make a good meme, I’ll give you guys that,” Tony says, smiling still.

“Well, the economy is shit so all we’ve got is depression humor and memes so we gotta make it good,” he says, considering his choices for a half a second before figuring fuck it. He could stay here all day or he could figure out what the rest of the night will be like and go over to Tony, see how he reacts. As it turns out he mostly looks like he wants to devour Peter but he keeps his hands to himself even if his thoughts are pretty obvious on his face. Peter wraps his arms around Tony’s neck, a silent way of giving him permission to touch him, and leans into him. “So we’re watching a movie, right? What am I supposed to expect?”

Tony looks pretty ready to abandon the movie idea but he doesn’t. “Your choice,” he says and Peter grins.

“Star Wars?” he asks excitedly.

“Baby, which Star Wars movie? And if you list any of the prequels I’ll fire you,” he jokes.

Peter wrinkles his nose, “A New Hope, obviously. Ew, why would I subject us to Jar Jar?”

Tony snickers, wrapping his arms around Peter’s waist. “Thank god. I met someone who liked Jar Jar Binks once and I’ve never been the same.”

He’s been staring at the skirt for like fifteen minutes and no one is home. Everyone else has classes or work in MJ’s case so really, there’s no harm if he steals Liz’s skirt from the floor of her room. No one will ever know and he’s never even had thoughts like that before and- well, okay, that’s not exactly true. He’s always liked the aesthetic of skirts, its just that he never really considered them on him before. But the way Tony reacted when he saw Peter in that lingerie, the way he kept looking at him all night…

He didn’t expect to like that feeling so much and skirts are pretty, he’s always liked them…

Fuck it, if he hates it he can put it back and its not like Liz would ever know so he sneaks in, snatches it from the ground, and sneaks back out. They’re probably the same size so this should be fine. Once in his room and slips it on and sure enough, it fits perfectly though it sits different on him than Liz. Probably on account of she has hips and he doesn’t, not really. But it does sit nicely over his butt so there’s that.

He grins, snatching his phone out of his abandoned pant pockets and moving his mirror in front of his bed so he can try and take a decent picture. It takes some finagling and a little work but he finally manages to get a good angle and-

“Oh shit,” he says, desperately snapping pictures as his free hand slips and he falls headfirst off the bed. He sighs, picking himself back up and smoothing out Liz’s skirt before examining the pictures.

He smiles, saving the good ones and deleting the rest before he sends them off to Tony. His favorite is the one with his back arched, the skirt sitting just too high to be appropriate, exposing a little cheek underneath. If he ignores his messy bed in the background its pretty much the perfect picture given the proportions of it. Tony’s response is pretty much immediate.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

Hmmm, there are a few ways of answering this. One is by listing all my NOTPs, which would be excessively long and ultimately boring because it essentially boils down to “anyone else with either member of my OTP.” I monoship my primary pairings, so I’m pretty strict on what I do and do not like.

(With the way fandom is now, I should clarify that NOTP means that I personally do not like a ship and I therefore go out of my way to avoid it - by muting terms, carefully filtering tags and search results, curating my own space, etc. It doesn’t mean I think the ship is badwrong or that anyone else should stop shipping it. It just means I do not ever want to see it.)

This feels a little less specific on that front, though, maybe more just: people like this and I’m meh about it?

So Allydia comes to mind. I don’t hate it, and if the Sterek’s good enough I’ll still read a fic with them as a background pairing, but I don’t ever like it as a romantic ship. While I ship Lydia with lots of different characters, including Cora, I’ve always seen Allison as straight, so I suppose that’s part of it? And I love Lydia & Allison as bffs - I see them as entirely platonic, like Scott & Stiles, so introducing romance just doesn’t work for me.

Another one is Sheriff Stilinski/Peter Hale. I...I don’t understand it. Unlike the last answer, this background pairing will prevent me from reading a Sterek-central fic.

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

This turned into a complicated and kind of roundabout answer, so I’m putting the rest of the questions under a long-post cut!

I stopped frequenting tumblr for two main reasons:

that whole weird purge thing that made me think everyone was leaving, so I just gave up, which might’ve been premature cause it seems like folks are still going strong on here

the emergence of antis, specifically within the Voltron fandom (although they’re everywhere at this point)

There’s a saying in fandom now:

“Why is the younger fandom generation like this?!??” “Tumblr raised them.”

For me, for years, tumblr was a really wonderful space where I had a lot of great conversations and read very thoughtful threads that helped me to learn some important things about myself, other people, and a world much wider than my own.

But I was an adult when I joined this site, and it really does seem like there’s a whole new crop of kids who have no actual context for ideas like social justice, the need for canonical representation in our media, and a lot of other things that eventually got folded into a big ball of disconnected rhetoric that they now fling as hard as they can at the heads of fandom creators who are committing the ultimate sin of creating content for ships they don’t like.

It’s late, and I don’t feel like getting into a whole Essay Rant about all that.

So on an entirely personal level, I quit running appreciatejack (my Check Please/zimbits/Jack Zimmermann blog) because someone sent me really vile hate for daring to ship Shiro/Keith from Voltron (two unrelated adults in a cartoon). It’s why I turned my ask boxes/anon/chats off on most of my blogs, and then eventually just...got tired of running them.

When I started up appreciatederek, I got a couple asks from people who wanted to know if it was going to be multiship or just Sterek, and when I said it was Sterek, they presumably went off to find other things they were into, because I never heard from them again. Y’know, the reasonable reaction. And then the rest of it was wonderful: finding content for it, and getting responses from people who enjoyed that content.

I thought appreciateshiro would be similar, but it was all so messy from the very start. The Sheith tag was FULL of hate. I was initially checking it every day, trying to find artists and writers and gif-makers to reblog and encourage and support, like I’d done in Sterek fandom, but instead I’d spend literal hours blocking people who came into that tag just to talk about how much they hated the ship.

Every day, I’d look for content for my OTP, and every day I’d come away from it angry and sad and frustrated. I never seemed to run out of people to block. And they never, ever seemed to run out of hate.

It was exhausting. It made me reluctant to go on tumblr at all. And eventually I just...sorta stopped.

So the answer to this question is more, I guess, “fandom made me stop liking tumblr, and in the process I stopped liking most fandoms.”

I’m sure you can kinda tell from the fandoms I’m currently the most invested in.

I love Sterek, and I will always love Sterek. Part of that’s the ship itself, of course, and part is because I had an incredible fandom experience with it. People within this fandom are still really great - always so welcoming and super excited about new content, even so many years on.

Otherwise, my current fandoms are kiiiiinda tiny:

Xanatowen (Gargoyles), which currently consists of exactly 2 people and 12 fics (3 of which are mine).

Trevorcard (Castlevania), which only has ~200 fics on AO3.

Taibani (Tiger & Bunny), which is an oldish fandom with only ~600 fics on AO3.

Remember, I came from a fandom that has SIXTY THOUSAND fics.

So while I feel very lonely and very sad about the low content levels in these fandoms, they’ve also given me the space to let go of some of my fandom hurt & anger and remember what it’s like to just...peacefully love something. I really miss just loving things and talking about loving those things and searching for other people who also love those things without running into....thousands upon thousands of people who HATE that you love that thing.

(Until I wrote all that out just now, I actually hadn’t realized how much this had still been hanging over me, or why I was so hesitant to come back to “reclaim” a space I’d once been super active and happy in. Essay over! Next questions.)

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

Found family. This is probably a big part of why Sterek was my first real fandom, because the idea of Pack makes it incredibly natural to build out relationships beyond just the central romantic pairing.

It doesn’t have to be a werewolf thing, though. I’m honestly not hugely fond of the whole puppy piles concept - I’m less interested in “biological urges make characters literally physically all snuggle up together in bed” than I am in the actual build of the friendships, and the concept of choosing people who will become the family you’ve been missing for whatever reason.

Maybe it’s reconnecting with biological family, or maybe it’s discovering that your friends have been filling that space for you all along, without you even fully realizing it. (The concept of “home” is another big one for me. Home is where your heart is etc etc.)

And hey! Now I can pull back in another question from earlier: about “pairings” that I might not have initially considered. As I suspected, I do have more! Mostly platonic.

For instance: Derek and Sheriff Stilinski becoming bffs. I thiiiink I can probably tie my ABSOLUTE LOVE of this concept back to HalfFizzbin’s can't be hateful, gotta be grateful. And then Cupboard Love really has to be the source of ALL my alive!Hales feels, which also includes folding Stiles into their family.

Fic is largely responsible for building out Derek’s relationship with Boyd, Erica, Isaac, his sisters...making them into an actual pack and friends and family in the way the show never bothered. And frankly while I don’t like canon!Scott at all at this point, I love his friendship with Stiles in fics, and I absolutely believe Stiles and Lydia would be amazing friends once he got past his crush on her. I’d point to another fic here, owlpostagain’s will to follow through, as the ultimate source for major Team Human feels.

So yeah. I’m always going to be drawn to stories about family, in whatever form that takes, particularly if it’s one that’s a little bit off the normal white-picket-fence path.

In Tiger & Bunny, it’s Barnaby joining the Kaburagi family, and learning how to be a dad and a friend to his new husband’s daughter.

In Gargoyles, I’m completely obsessed with the (canonical!) idea of a family that consists of a man, his wife, their son, and the chaotically loyal fae babysitter/tutor/third parent. It is not a stretch to tweak this the tiiiiiiniest bit to turn it into a nontraditional family structure of a man, his wife, his son, and his fae boyfriend. Honestly.

In Castlevania, the fic that made me sob my eyes out at one point does something the show would absolutely never. It gives Alucard the time to rebuild his physical home while befriending the people in the little town that crops up around it. It’s about Trevor and Alucard falling in love, but it’s also about them making a place for themselves in a world where that kind of comfort and stability and friendship is so badly needed.

Hi Anon, thanks for getting in touch. I was hoping my last post would start a conversation. Allow me to respond to your points.

First things first, my post wasn't about the relevant merits of Blacksun or Bumbleby. It was about how heterosexual and homosexual ships are viewed differently, even when both have evidence supporting them. I could have used another show, or other ships. The reason I used RWBY to illustrate my point is because the show made it very easy for me. It contains a scene where a man winks at a woman, and a scene where a woman winks at a woman. As the same thing happens in both scenes, it makes it incredibly easy to directly compare the two.

When you strip everything else away, both scenes contain the exactly same thing, a woman getting winked at. Both winks are of a flirtatious nature, the only difference is the gender of the winker, so why is the M/F ship automatically accepted, but the F/F ship is immediately dismissed? Why do you think that happens? I'd really, really like to get your thoughts on that.

I can give you my perspective. We still live in a very heteronormative society. It doesn't help that the media we consume conditions us to accept certain things, especially when it comes to attraction and romance. It all reinforces the notion that if a man and woman share an attraction, they are going to end up together. A lot of straight people, and this isn't their fault, lack perspective when it comes to homosexual romance. They don't see what's happening because they don't have a frame of reference. This is why people should be more open minded. If someone with more knowledge in a subject tells you something, you should listen. For example, if a black person says something is racist, it's probably racist. If a queer person says something is queer, it's probably queer.

As I said before, let me know why you think heterosexual and homosexual ships are treated differently.

Let me go back to the winking for a second. Some people have pointed out that Yang is playful and she's winked at other people, including Weiss. This is 100% correct. If Yang had made a joke, or was joking around in general, we could question if the wink was flirtatious. However, for the entire scene Yang is nothing but serious. At the end, when she says “and if you feel like coming out tomorrow, I'll save you a dance.”, listen to the tone of her voice. She sounds sincere, genuine, even hopeful. She doesn’t sound like she’s joking beacuse this isn’t a joking matter for her. She's inviting Blake out and promising to dance with her. This seems pretty clear cut to me. The suggestion that Yang is just being playful further reinforces my point on how differently heterosexual and homosexual interactions are viewed.

Now, onto the points you raise.

You are 100% right. Do you know why we would ship them? Because we are desperate for representation. We latch onto any homosexual pairing that has even the slightest hint of becoming romantic, simply because we don't get the sheer amount straight people do. GLAAD published a report called “Where We Are on TV”. It covers the 2018-2019 TV season and states “ Of the 857 regular characters expected to appear on broadcast scripted primetime programming this season, 75 (8.8%) were identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer.” Heterosexual people can watch any show on TV and find someone to identify with. Queer people get 8.8%.

No right minded Bumbleby shipper disputes the fact that Blake and Sun shared an attraction. That is clear from what is presented on the show. The split comes when the word romantic is used. We all know that attraction does not always equal romance. I haven't seen any evidence on the show to suggest that Blake and Sun's relationship went further than mutual attraction, before evolving into an amazing friendship that really helped Blake.

My personal opinion is that Sun stopped pursuing a romantic relationship at the end of Volume 3. He saw how much Blake cared for Yang and resolved to be the best friend he could be for Blake. I believe his speech to Neptune in Volume 6 confirms this. Having said that, the show isn't over, we have no idea what the writers are going to do. Maybe they will go with Blacksun, none of us really know what's going to happen.

Let me be perfectly clear here. I had assumed that Blake and Sun would enter into a romantic relationship. However, at this point in the story, I no longer think this. Am I saying Blacksun was never a valid ship? No. Am I criticising Blacksun? No. Am I saying you shouldn't support Blacksun? Of course not. I'm not even saying Blacksun has sunk. It's not sunk because the show isn't over, and both of them are still alive. That's the big difference here, in most fandoms, even if a M/F ship seems unlikely, it's still given more validation than an F/F ship. This is the point I'm getting at. Lets give M/F and F/F ships the same level of respect.

I'm not sure what evidence we're ignoring, or what hoops we're jumping through. Please provide some examples for us to discuss.

I guess Bumbleby shippers do use the Monty card. When we use it, we usually say “Monty wouldn't have a problem with Bumbleby.” We feel safe saying this because we have actual evidence to back this up. I wrote an entire post called “Monty Oum and LGBT representation” that supports this view. We don't make unsupported claims like the people that say Monty wouldn't want Bumbleby to happen. They have not been able to provide one shred of evidence to support this. Do you really think these two sides are the same? One is saying Monty was a loving, inclusive guy and the other side is calling him a homophobe.

The LGBT characters don't have to be on team RWBY. There's also no reason that the LGBT characters shouldn't be on team RWBY. There's no reason they shouldn't be Blake and Yang.

I'm a bit confused here. Bumbleby shippers pretend Bumbleby isn't confirmed? So you're saying Bumbleby is confirmed? I think I can safely say that the majority of Bumbleby shippers will admit that Bumbleby isn't canon yet. We think they are right on the edge, but they aren't in a romantic relationship yet, meaning they aren't canon, yet.

We don't try to twist Adam's lines to hint at romance, the actual lines spoken by Adam hint at romance. “I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love. Starting with her.” “What does she even see in you!” Adam can see how much Blake cares about Yang, and he considers Yang a romantic rival.

I think you're implying that Adam hates Yang because she's human. I can see the logic, but Adam never uses the fact that Yang is human against her. So, there's nothing there to ignore. He could have said “Starting with that filthy human.” or “Why does she care so much about a human!” He doesn't, he clearly cares far more about Blake's feelings towards Yang, than the fact that Yang is human.

Can you clarify what context we are ignoring? The way I remember it is, Ren and Nora fight the Nuckelavee, a monster that has traumatised them. They defeat it and grow closer, as evidenced by the looks they share, and them holding hands on the airship. The fandom unanimously agrees that Renora is now canon. Next we have Blake and Yang fight Adam, a monster that has traumatised them. They defeat him and grow closer, as evidenced by the looks they share, and them holding hands on the airship. For some reason, the fandom doesn't agree that Bumbleby is canon.

Damn it, this example would have been even better than the winking scenes. Renora and Bumbleby really does highlight the different ways heterosexual and homosexual ships are viewed.

I don't remember ever seeing this. Of course it doesn't have to be the case. If someone says this, I don't think they're being serious. I think it's safe to say that no one seriously expects Whiterose to become canon. The work hasn't been done and the hints aren't there. Bumbleby is another matter. There's a reason we think this ship is going to be canon. It's because the work has been done, the hints have been there and by the end of Volume 6, that line between platonic and romantic is looking pretty blurred.

If you haven't seen the hints and the work, please refer back to what I said earlier. If a queer person tells you something is queer, it's probably queer.

Do you believe in soulmates? I absolutely adore soulmate au's, and there's something thrilling about the idea of it in real life. Perhaps not even romantic soulmates, just someone you share a connection with that transcends all rational thought. And of course you see some couples, that are just so meant to be together you can't help but think fate played a part in their meeting. I personally believe I have a soulmate, and I think I've met them, but I'm not entirely sure. They're so far away, almost twelve hours, and can you ever be certain without meeting someone? Who knows. I love them. They love me. It's not even romantic, there's just... something. I knew it from the moment I met her. Do you think you have a soulmate? (I'm sorry to admit this, but Bokuto does not count.) I'm genuinely curious to see what you have to say.

In regards to the soulmate thing, you should know it doesn't diminish my attraction to you in the slightest. I don't feel any less for you simply because I believe fate has brought me closer to another person.

to answer your question, yes i do believe in soulmates. and i absolutely believe in platonic as well as romantic soulmates. but i also believe that theres more than one soulmate out there for people. maybe that means multiple platonic or multiple romantic or some combination of the two — but i truly do believe that there are souls out there that ours have known before. people that you connect with and feel connected to, regardless of how long you’ve known them, whether you’ve met, the distance between you, or any other number of factors

i like to think that both fate, or the universe, and choice both play a role when it comes to soulmates. because yes, there are some people we are inexplicably drawn to, that we feel like we’ve known before and want to know, regardless of the barriers that may be in place. but it’s the choice to foster that connection that makes it truly beautiful. i think connecting with people for a fleeting moment is something we can all do — it’s maintaining that connection, developing it, and growing together, that really speaks to the soulmate bond

i don’t know if that made any sense, but that’s what i have off the top of my head. regarding your soulmate, if you think you’ve met her, you probably have. i always go with my gut when it comes to feelings like that. i think usually our intuition and our hearts knows more than we do. and i don’t think we can ever be truly certain of anything without a degree of trust. maybe you’ve never met in person before, and maybe you’re 12 hours apart, but those things only speak to the strength of your connection and your ability to foster that relationship in spite of those barriers. and i think that “something” you feel is the most special part of soulmates — theres truly something indescribable about it

i think i have! well, a few anyway. i won’t get into it here, but there are some souls who i feel like i’ve known forever, who i connect with like no one else and who make me feel so loved, and who i want to give love to in return. i think platonic love is vastly underrated and i truly have so much platonic love for these people. i think i’ve met one of my romantic soulmates too! (and no, i’m not referring to bokuto haha but i do love him too)

Just wanna clarify a few things after my long review/rant at the end for KH3 Re:Mind

My comments about the Sokai stuff I stand by, but I wanna be clear because I see Sokai shippers claiming antis complained about the lack of Sokai for it to be a believable relationship and now that Sokai has more moments we’re complaining about them shoving Sokai down our throats.

I cant speak for all antis on this, so I’ll be strictly speaking for myself on this issue and anyone else who feels similar to me. Warning it gets long again so be ready.

Yes Im one of those antis who complained about the lack of Sokai which made it underdeveloped and unbelievable, and yes I am also complaining about them now shoving Sokai down our throats.

Why? because Kingdom hearts is not a romance, and throughout every single game so far romance has taken a severe back seat and handled very subtely. For example Sora’s drawing in the cave of him giving Kairi the Paopu fruit, Riku teasing him about wanting to give one to Kairi, Sora saying hes always with her and promising to come back for her, Roxas calling Kairi ‘the girl he likes’ etc

All these moments were very short, subtle, and to the point. It was not a primary focus nor was it blatantly shoved in your face like

I mean in almost EVERY shot they were together Sora was holding her hand, which isnt something he usually does? keep in mind Sora and Kairi’s feelings have been known to eachother since KH2 and Sora still didnt behave the way he is now. He was always very awkward and uncomfortable/shy when it came to romance.

In KH2 Sora didnt hug Kairi, nor did he hold her hand, it was KAIRI who initiated the hug out of relief and happiness to see Sora again and that hes ok. Sora did not show the same sentiment and treated her like he always has, just casually walking up to her and just nonchalantly saying ‘You are different Kairi, but Im just glad your here’ as if she wasnt kidnapped and being held hostage this entire time. He should have showed the same concern for her as he did for Riku and Kairi for him but he did not, he just said that and then turned away and apologized.

But in KH3 Sora/Nomura pull a complete 180, Sora hugs Kairi to shield her from Terranort with his body instead of pulling out his keyblade and blocking his attack. Him hugging Kairi there was not only stupid, but it doesnt even defend her, Terranort will just kill Kairi AND him now. That was just a forced out of place Sokai moment for the sake of shoving a Sokai moment that was completely unnessecary and could of easily had the same impact by having Sora do the common sense thing and BLOCK with his keyblade like he did for Riku when they were in THE EXACT SAME SITUATION.

See the difference? good, then I need say no more.

This is only one of many situations where they would shoehorn in a Sokai moment that was completely out of place, didnt make any sense, or just forced in trying way too hard to convince you how much Sora cares for Kairi and how much they love and want to be together forever etc etc

Another example being when everybody ‘dies’ in the keyblade graveyard being swept away by heartless. Sora only loses his mind and breaks down emotionally after Kairi is the last one swept away, he then says the most inconsiderate line he could have ever said.

He says this while RIKU IS RIGHT THERE BESIDE HIM, even if you were arguing he was just speaking figuratively thats still no excuse, he was NOT alone but at that moment he just completely disregarded Riku as if his presence there was the same as being alone.

Not only that but seconds later he does one of the most out of character things for him.

Sora just WATCHES Riku risk his life holding back the heartless to protect him and Sora just WATCHES him fighting off this huge horde of heartless BY HIMSELF and not ONCE does Sora make ANY attempt to get up and help Riku despite knowing his life is at risk trying to hold them back alone.

Even if you wanna argue Sora was in shock, when has that ever stopped him before!? when have you EVER known Sora to just sit back and watch his friends put their lives in danger and NOT help them?

What makes this worse is thats not even the first time he does it, he sits back and watches AGAIN as Axel gets bodied right infront of him just to have him exhausted next to Kairi because you know, Sora’s never fought strong opponents and gotten right back up to protect his friends before.

Remember Terranort? Sora was overpowered by him and still made the effort to run over and hug Kairi to shield her from his attack, but Axel and Riku? nah just gonna chill and watch. This is BEYOND out of character for Sora.

When Axel told Sora to hurry and save Kairi, who was being held hostage by the organization and was in danger, Sora refused to leave him and stayed behind to help him fight. Sora chose helping Axel over Kairi, he put saving his enemy before his own friend/love interest.

When Neku betrayed him, Sora still helped and protected him when he was in danger

When Riku stole his keyblade and Donald and Goofy followed him and left Sora behind, yes Sora was discouraged but when he saw Beasts determination to save Belle no matter what, it encouraged Sora to do the same for the people he cared about

I could go on but you get my point, Sora saw Riku risking his life, literally dying and he did NOTHING, try to justify that all you want but that was incredibly out of character and was obviously put there to show how losing Kairi broke him.

I know your probably gonna argue it wasnt just Kairi it was everybody, and to that I say this, if it wasnt just about Kairi why didnt Sora snap when Ven and Axel got bodied? he froze for a few seconds but then snapped out of it thanks to Riku. After that everybody gets swept away, but the game made sure to put EXTRA emphasis, slow motion and all, to Kairi and Sora reaching out to eachother and then Kairi being swept away by the tide.

THATS when he snaps, if it truly werent just about Kairi they wouldnt have made sure to put emphasis on her being swept away, EVERYONE would have gotten the same treatment if it were truly their deaths also that made Sora fall apart. Im not saying he wasnt upset or heartbroken over them, Im pointing out how they made sure to single out Kairi as the most DEVASTATING loss out of all of them.

Yet again, he has Riku one of his closest bonds if not the closest right beside him yet he doesnt even acknowledge him? he says hes alone even though Rikus right there? you cannot justify that as anything other than downplaying Riku to boost Kairi up.

You do not see the other trios treated this way, every trio has equal focus for ALL of them and even the romantic hints for some of them [Roxas/Xion, Terra/Aqua, technically Namine/Repliku] have all been treated equally and did not feel forced or out of place but very natural and they still made sure to focus on the friendship bond between them overall.

Axel doesnt get played down in importance to Roxas just to boost Xion up, their friendship and bond with eachother are equally important to one another despite whatever ‘romance’ there might be. Same applies to Terra and Aqua, Ven is not played down in importance to them. As for Namine and Repliku they arent a trio but their romance was still handled well and it didnt overshadow their platonic bond or attempt to play down the real Riku or vice versa to boost the other, Namine was equally important to both of them.

So balancing romance and friendship CAN be done in their trio, but for some reason Nomura insists on pitting one against the other and playing down one over the other, in Sokai’s case thats Riku, which is an insult to his and Sora’s bond. The same way Sokai shippers felt the over-focus on Sorikus bond was a disservice to Sora and Kairi’s bond, its the same issue.

But lets get back to Re:mind because besides a few bad moments, overall KH3 was atleast passable with the Sokai nonsense. Then comes Re:Mind and oh boy...the damage control was strong in this one.

Again as I said earlier the Sokai moments in this game were very forced and out of place and in many ways out of character for Sora.

For starters the excessive hand holding, why? to convince us their a thing? but Sora suggests otherwise

Even after all the excessive hand holding, the hugs, the forced moments etc, in the end Sora still calls Kairi a friend. After aaaaall the forced Sokai bs they shoved down our throats Sora still friendzones her, which is it Nomura? you either want them together or you dont, stop playing games and pick a side already.

Dont get me wrong Im glad he hasnt made it official yet but after all this its like enough is enough, either follow through or cut this shit out and go back to being subtle like before.

Another huge insult was Sora constantly saying how his journey started with Kairi, since when? I remember Sora losing Kairi AND Riku that day not just her. I recall Sora not going back to Destiny Islands with Kairi BECAUSE he wanted to continue his journey to find Riku, but apparently in Re:mind it was just all about Kairi, nothing about his journey involved Riku no it was only Kairi that was his main motivation, gtf outta here man.

You can say something over and over but that doesnt make it true, Sora’s journey started with BOTH of them, lets stop playing down Riku’s importance to once again boost Kairi up.

That hug when Sora finally reunited with Kairi after restoring her was so obviously trying to make up for all the years of people complaining about Sora’s lack of reaction to Kairi in KH2 in comparison to Riku, so having him hold her for several seconds floating in the sky should rectify that right? you believe he cares about her now right? fuck off man. If your gonna do damage control than atleast dont make it so obvious that thats what your doing because then it comes off disingenuous, forced, and fake.

But my biggest issue is the ending where they really shoehorned Sokai where it didnt belong, literally stalking everyone else with the exception of returning Namines heart and Sora helping to reunite Chirithy with Ventus. But in Twilight town, why were Sora and Kairi there? they werent with Roxas but just sitting above them

Why were they at Mickeys castle? again their just in the background sight seeing.

These scenes were completely unnessecary and completely out of place and made the ending WORSE rather than better. Why? because these are Sora’s final hours ALIVE whether you argue only for a day or a couple days, in all of these ending scenes only one thing matters to Sora and thats Kairi.

Before we assumed everything that was shown all happened the same exact day and we didnt see Sora with any of them. But now we have confirmation Sora WAS there yet he only spent his last remaining time with Kairi in the background while quietly stalking everyone else? even if he didnt spend time with anyone else, he should have spent his last remaining time with Kairi AND Riku, after all hes his best friend and would like to spend what little time he may have with Sora too but we dont see any of that. Hell this contradicts Soras own danm words to Chirithy prior to this.

Instead of just shoehorning a bunch of Sokai in the background why not show the three of them FINALLY all together again like the old days? this is wtf Im talking about. We saw ALL the other trios together but the Destiny trio? hell naw fuck Riku lets have Sora spend all his remaining time with Kairi, thats the only one who REALLY matters here. After being separated from eachother constantly, now they finally have the chance to be together again and spend time together as friends and they DONT.

Instead Sora decides to take Kairi around the worlds hes visited, something he said he wanted to do with Riku as well, and just spend all his remaining time with her, even though in the base game before the final battle Sora was concerned why Riku was all alone and not spending time with them together. But here? nah fuck Riku. I remembered how important it is to share moments with friends only applied to Kairi.

So personally idc that theres more Sokai moments, my problem is the execution. It doesnt feel genuine, it feels forced and awkward and just doing damage control to pander to the rabid fanbase thats been screaming for this type of content for years, well congrats, you got it.

My problem is Kingdom Hearts was never about romance, it was always subtle and not shoved in your face, it felt natural and not forced and like there was atleast SOME heart behind it, but this? just felt hollow and forced.

Just stop, Im glad in the end Kairi just sleeps for a whole year and probably still will be sleeping when the next game comes out and the focus will shift to Riku and his search for Sora along with the other keyblade wielders doing their part as well.

So Im thankful it seems like we’re done with this crap and getting back to what ACTUALLY matters and what people really wanna see from this series.

Notice how nothing in either of my posts had to do with Soriku as a couple but about their bond as friends, enough said.

So dont try to twist this into just being about pairings because its not, its about what this series has always been about being forgotten for the sake of a fucking trash ship that nobody cares about besides rabid shippers and Sora’s bonds with his other friends being completely thrown out the fucking window to shorehorn in a bunch of unnessecary Sokai moments as a desperate attempt to convince people that these two love eachother which at this point if you have to try so hard to CONVINCE people of your pairing its obvious your doing a very shitty job at it.

Im done, this is my last long post about this for a while but I really needed to get that all out there since nobody else seems to be calling it out for what it is. My anger and frustration is still very fresh and it shows so I really need to stop talking about it because at this point? Re:Mind just ReMinded me why the Destiny trio is the worst out of them all, it is the most unbalanced and quite frankly feels more like Riku is a third wheel at this point and not even a part of the trio anymore. Before Kairi, it was always Sora and RIku yet hes the one whos being pushed aside and forgotten about in all this. That pisses me off.

So Im done with this topic, I need to cool off for the next couple of years till the next game comes out where hopefully Kairi stays asleep the entire time and NOT ruin another game.
