Saitama x Reader

Summary: It's a well-known fact that Saitama doesn't feel anything, but that doesn't mean he can't try.

---

It was no surprise that your boyfriend was someone who wasn't really fond of romance. Being emotionless didn't really work for his favour either.

But Saitama decided a long time ago, that he would do anything not to lose you. He tried to be romantic as much as he could. He read a lot into it as well.

So, it was no surprise to you, that when he asked you to stay over at his place, you found the whole apartment lit with candles and flowers.

Your heart always melted whenever he did something like this. You found it incredibly cute.

"Sai?" you called out when you didn't find him in the living room. His apartment was rather small so he couldn't really hide anywhere.

Suddenly the door to the balcony opened, and there he stood. With his usually yellow shirt on.

"Oh, you are early." he said. He must have been watering his cactus.

"I might have been a tad bit too excited so I got here quickly. But I did get us some sweets from the store." you said placing the plastic bag onto his table. He didn't say anything, his usual blank expression on his face.

But he soon gathered himself as you put all your stuff out of the way and he walked over to you and kissed you.

"You look beautiful."

"Thank you." you knew that he must have learned that from one of his manga, but you just decided to take the compliment. You kissed him back. "So, what did you plan?" you asked, knowing that there had to be one. Saitama usually had a list of what he wanted and needed to do on dates, but of course, you never told him that you knew about that list.

"A movie, you got snacks but I have some too."

"Cuddling?"

"All the cuddling." he answered and watched as your smile grew. He loved it when you smiled, that's what made him feel again.

His futon was a bit small for two people, but he managed to pull you into his body just right, so you could fit.

Saitama had your back against his chest as a horror movie played. Saitama read it somewhere that if your partner is scared, they will cling onto you, and that's exactly what he wanted and why he picked a movie that would surely terrify you.

And so that's how you spent the rest of the evening, cuddled up into his very muscular chest while watching the movie. He occasionally squeezed you closer to himself when he felt that you were scared.

And scared you were.

The movie was absolutely terrifying.

And once it finally ended, you were very grateful. You looked at the clock and saw that it was actually pretty late, so you decided to go, take a bath and go to sleep.

"Sai, will you join me to the bath?"

"I-I already had a bath, before you arrived."

"Oh." you didn't push it further, seeing his red flustered face was enough. Into the bathroom, you went to enjoy a warm bath. Although the movie was scary, the thought of sleeping in the arms of the Worlds strongest helped a lot with easing your mind. You wondered if he did it on purpose or was he just genuinely interested in the movie since you knew he liked these kinds of films.

Anyways, you got out of the bath and put your pyjama on. When you got back to the futon, Saitama blew the candles out and was already half asleep. You turned the TV off and went ahead to lay down beside your boyfriend. He pulled you close as you placed your head on his chest.

Falling asleep you felt so lucky because even though Saitama is emotionless, you were very thankful for the things he did and how hard he tried.

─Summary: Luck is not on your side today, you just hope you can rest and return home but it seems that you are more sensitive than you seem when Saitama makes a joke, don't worry, he is still your personal hero.

─Warnings: none

It wasn't a good day for you, the alarm clock didn't ring because Satama broke it ─again─ and as a consequence you arrived late for work, getting scolded by your boss. As if that were not enough, the rest of the work was a bit of a disaster, your body did not seem to react correctly to the stimuli and you were clumsier than normal.

When you returned home you couldn't buy your favorite sweet, you had hoped that the food would make your day a little better, but the disappointment of not finding your favorite dessert only made you sink deeper into your misery, you stepped in a puddle, dirtying some of your pants favorites, a cat scratched you when you tried to pet it, you stepped in a dog's poop when turning a corner...

You were accumulating a lot of things that drained your mood to a minimum, the only thing you hope is to get home and for Saitama to shower you with love, hugs, kisses on your face… any show of affection right now would improve your day, you didn't expect that could get worse, but you thought about it too quickly.

You know that Saitama is quite sincere and gets straight to the point of the matter, so he doesn't usually soften his words when he speaks ─something he's working on improving just for you─, today he didn't mince a word when speaking as soon as you walked in the door.

"Honey, you stink, did you bathe in poop?"

Saitama's purpose was just to mess with you, he just wanted to say something funny that would make you smile when he saw your discouraged face, since sometimes you mess with each other making jokes, if you had had a normal day you would have laughed and returned him the joke, but that was not the case today.

He turned around when he didn't hear a response from you, a feeling of guilt stuck in the pit of his stomach as he saw how some tears escaped your eyes, he rushed to your side to grab you by the shoulders and pull you closer to him in a hug, he caressed your back gently while you stained his shoulder with snot.

"He-hey, you know I was joking, right? Even if you woke up tomorrow as a worm, I would still love you."

Sobbing a little more before laughing lightly, your breathing hitched due to a strange cry and laughter at your partner's unexpected comment, he began to panic when he saw how you wouldn't stop crying, at this point you were just letting everything that you endured during the day out.

It wasn't until long minutes later where Saitama was racking his brain thinking about what to say to make you feel better that you stopped crying. He still looked at you worried, considering the options of making you tea or giving you a tranquilizer to calm you down, but he discarded the ideas when he saw how you regained your composure, he sat you down and stayed next to you rubbing your back for a couple more minutes, silent so as not to force you to speak until you felt ready.

"I'm sorry for making a scene over something so stupid, I just had a bad day."

"No, it's okay, at least you feel better now, right?"

"Yes, thank you Saitama."

With a new, much more cheerful mood, you lay down on Saitama hoping that at least your sleep would not be interrupted while you snuggled with him, nothing could go wrong tomorrow if it was your day off.

I'd love me some heartwarming moment between Genos and Saitama.

Where Saitama questions out loud if he's cut out to be a hero.

Genos asks what makes him say that.

Saitama responds with a shrug and dunno, but it just feels like he messes up everything. Heroes got radiation sickness because he didn't stop Garou in time, the city got demolished and their house... he feels like he didn't just do enough. And he's always late to stop anything from happening.

Genos gets pissed and calls bullshit on that. Then he would recite multiple reasons why he thinks Saitama is a great hero and asks, did Saitama not engage Garou and keep him busy so there were no casualties? Did he not look for the safety of the civilians? Did he not aim that deadly ray away from Earth?

Saitama tries to interject but Genos keeps continuing with a myriad of other reasons, getting more passionate each second and Saitama can't get a word in and shuts his mouth.

Lastly, did he not save Garou from unheroic lynching from other heroes and display true heroism?

Saitama does not know what to say to that.

Genos would look Saitama directly in the eyes and say that: "Even if Saitama-sensei doesn't believe himself to be a hero, I do." "You will always be my hero."

Saitama feels so moved by that and Genos belief in him that he starts to cry and thanks Genos for believing in him. It means a lot to him.

Genos gets disdraught because Saitama is suddenly crying, Saitama tells him he's fine, he just hasn't cried in such a long time...

Genos produces a handkerchief out of thin air and Saitama stares at it dubiously and asks where in the world did he get that.

Genos says he keeps one in compartment in case of awkward fangirls and that it's also clean.

Saitama huffs bemusedly and blows his nose normally.

Okay, so I absolutely cannot shake the headcanon that these chapters are all Kid!Saitama, Kid!Garou and Kid!Genos having an amicable and imaginary fight on the school playground and naming the most ridiculous moves they can come up with.

Garou: okay so if you’re super powerful or whatever, I’ll just copy whatever you’re doing.

Saitama: but you can’t! because my powers are awesome. so you’ll have to ask God to help you.

Garou: God who?

Genos (who is insufferably pretentious, even at age 6): I find the Deus Ex Machina trope to be unsatisfying and overused--

Saitama: shh! quiet, Genos. you already got to fight Garou, now it’s my turn...

Garou: wait, God? Like... the God? I don’t think that’s a real thing.

Genos: Garou is correct, celestial entities on the causal plane generally cannot be invoked on the gross physical plane unless--

Saitama, frustrated: and then Garou kills Genos because Genos won’t stop talking--

Garou: wait, I do what now?

Saitama: you have to kill Genos. it’s the only way he’ll shut up.

[[Garou sheepishly gives Genos a shove on the shoulder. Genos obediently clutches his chest and “dies,” falling prone on the ground]]

Saitama: and then we punch each other... through the earth! or... wait, I’ve got it... Garou turns poison and starts killing everybody...

Garou: wait, there’s no way I’d do that...

Saitama: sh... trust me, you’ll like where this is going...

Garou: [[rolls eyes]]

Saitama: so then... we punch each other to another dimension or... wait, even better... we punch each other INTO SPACE!!

Garou: huh!? that doesn’t make sense.

Genos, propping himself up on his elbows: Garou is correct; your scenario begs the question of oxygen consumption and the inefficiency of anaerobic pathways at a moment when athletic performance is critical--additionally, you must consider the risk of missing your target planet entirely and instead catapulting into the cold and merciless void of space--

Is there any fanfiction where this therapy session is continued? Or can I request someone to try to write one such scenario? I’m just really curious as to how their talk would have gone, seriously. And I can’t quite think it well enough to write it myself. I’ve really wanted to see the fight (without exactly the tragedies happening right now) but this serious table talk seemed actually pretty unique and heartwarming. Hilarious too.

Why is there no fanfiction about Saitama and the random audiobook woman that fell in love with him? Such injustice...

If this is the audio drama I'm thinking of, then that's probably because....the lady's 'interest' in Saitama was primarily a ruse, to gain blackmail information on him as a fraud against the HA.....and because Genos was RIGHT THERE getting visibly annoyed/angry/jealous at her. So in terms of fic potential, I can see where fans' priorities + interpretations took that scenario instead. ;)

Simple Mornings

Saitama x Reader

Summary: Every morning was the same, things barely changed, but it was perfect just the way it was.

---

Every morning was the same. You woke up cuddling with Sai, you didn't want to move even if you had to go to work. He pulled you closed just a tiny bit when he felt you move. You listened to his heart beat for a little longer before you needed to get up.

You got up and out of bed and made your way to the bathroom. After freshening up you went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. By that time Sai was also up and helping you. Or at least trying to help you.

You ate breakfast while listening to the TV or just talking to Sai. His emotionless face were confusing in the beginning of your relationship but now you got used to it and could read him pretty well. He liked listening to you talk, not like with Genos.

After breakfast you'd either get ready for work or on weekends, you'd just watch some more TV. Usually, Sai took care of the groceries, being obsessed with sales and coupons did help a lot for the two of you to save money.

But that morning was different.

You woke up, had breakfast as normal, but there was something odd.

Something wasn't right. You wondered what it was but since you couldn't come up with an explanation, you just let it go. But the feeling never left. That uneasy feeling was still in you for some strange reason.

And it stayed with you. You decided to clean the house a little while Sai read his manga.

Then you felt it.

Like someone knocked you to the floor and knocked out all air from your lungs. You looked at Sai, he looked normal.

"Sai-chan..." you said but your voice didn't even sound like yours.

"HM?" he looked up at you, seeing your face, he was confused.

"Something terrible will happen." you said in such a voice it sent chills down his spine. You weren't joking. This wasn't a prank, he could tell.

He moved over to you and just as he did a huge explosion could be heard outside. It made you duck down as Saitama had 0.1 seconds to react and move to keep you safe.

The explosion broke your windows, but you were surprised it didn't blow the entire building over.

Saitama held you against his chest, his back to the now shattered window.

"Sensei! Y/N-san! Are you okay?" rushed in Genos.

"We are fine. Go and take care of whatever that was." you told both of them but Saitama didn't want to leave you alone. "I'll be okay." you said pushing both out of the small flat.

While the two men dealt with the issue in the city, you started to clean the glass from the floor. You thought about how would you afford new windows, but that could wait until Saitama is back.

It started off as a normal morning, nothing more, but this is how it ended.

It left both you and Saitama wondering just how come you knew something bad was about to happen?

─ Somehow you find yourself involved in battles that do not concern you, being just another civilian who is rescued, it has happened to you several times, but you usually go unnoticed and flee from danger before someone decides to use you as a hostage.

─ It didn't happen like that when Saitama saved you, although he didn't even see you, he destroyed that huge stone that was going to crush you when defeating a villain, your eyes could only look fascinated at the shine of his bald head and his bored expression.

─ You thanked him in different languages and he just gave you a thumbs up without knowing how to respond when he didn't even notice you in the first place.

─ He was certainly happy thinking that he had gotten a fan, but you went a little too far.

─ You went crazy looking for information about your now favorite hero and love, you sighed every time you saw him knock down enemies with a single blow.

─ Saitama met you more times a day than he did with Genos, and he lived with the cyborg.

─ You always tried to start a conversation with him, no matter how brief, you love the simple interaction.

─ Saitama will run away from you, seriously, he appreciates your letters and gifts but you are reaching an extreme, the man wants to lead a fairly peaceful life and you are a whirlwind of emotions.

─ Genos got a taste of his own medicine when he prevented a pile of rubble from falling on you, he hadn't noticed that you were the only person there, he just diverted the pieces of building for a battle strategy.

─ You didn't need anything else, once he realized that there were civilians, he apologized and helped you get to the nearest hospital to check if you had any injuries.

─ You were creating imaginary scenarios with the cyborg throughout the medical checkup and immediately sought to have more interactions with him.

─ It's difficult for Genos to reject some of your offers once you manage to establish some kind of friendly relationship, although he feels that you are being a little suffocating with your affection.

─ Appreciate your enthusiasm and affection, but seriously, relax a little, his brain will short-circuit from the amount of love you show him.

─ This boy has zero experience in romantic relationships so he is a little lost when it comes to reciprocating at first.

─ You will take care of that as long as he ends up accepting you as a partner, since he is still confused by your sudden appearance in his life, especially when he has such clear life goals, he doesn't know if you could distract him from his occupations.

─ He doesn't want to make you feel bad so he won't ignore your signs of affection like Saitama, ironically he has more heart than his bald friend.

─ In general he is a good boy and he will accept your love bombing, but he also has clear goals for himself, and he lets you know if you really want to be part of his life.

─ This idiot surely saw you and he was even the one who planned to use you as a hostage, but someone beat him to it and put a knife against your throat before he could do anything.

─ Fuck everything, the cheap villain was his priority now and he forgot about you, no one would take away a target even if it was a hostage, speaking of capricious boys…

─ Of course the whim of fighting your captor indirectly saved you, although he didn't look at you when you fell to the ground or help you after he broke the other guy's face, but your heart experienced an instant crush.

─ Garou had the feeling that someone was after him after that day, he thought that some rival was after him only to find... you with a love letter in your hands?

─ You looked at each other in an uncomfortable silence and he decided to leave without saying anything, but your spirits did not falter, you tried by all possible means to spend as much time as possible with him to establish a relationship.

─ The man simply got used to having you by his side, ranting about anything or receiving compliments for any little thing he did.

─ He was so embarrassed, not only because the sight of him as a villain would be destroyed, but because he was not used to receiving so much praise and affection.

─ You may have a rather negative reaction towards your love, he doesn't feel confident enough to start something and you also came out of nowhere, but now that he knows you a little more he won't kick you out of his life either, at least for now…

─ Don't expect any signs of affection from him, he's a tough guy and has to look tough.

─ He constantly reminds you that he's not a good person and what his goals are right now, but he gives up when he sees that the look in your eyes clouded by love, won't scare you away so easily, although he might like that.

Did this a few days ago but wanted to post it now, I feel pretty proud about this but it’s also sloppy 😭 hopefully it fits since this scenario kinda looks like it’d fit saitama based on the things he went through to get powerful, and when he got it, there was no challenges for him. That goes on like getting what you wanted, so badly but how are you supposed to feel after you achieve it? The happiness is going to wear off someday. I hope that made sense 😭😭

Aight so, I've not posted this fanfic thingy all the way back from May because I don't often post unfinished WIP stuff that I've just type on discord but I'm feeling it might suddenly become relevant...

Saigenos in a nightmare

- soundscape -

Saitama stares blearily ahead as he rolls down his futon. Whole day of busting monsters would make anybody tired and even someone as strong as Saitama needed his sleep.

"Man I'm tired", he stretches his mouth open with a mighty yawn and throws away his hero clothes, switching to his pyjamas, "whole day of busting monsters, I am so ready to sleep."

Genos rolls down another futon next to his sensei and nods his head. "We definitely deserve our rest sensei, today was quite a busy day. I will wash our clothes in the morning." Silence greets him and he turns around and sees Saitama is already seemingly fast asleep and breathing evenly, completely tuckered out and awkwardly sprawled on his futon, hugging his pillow.

Genos huffs in amusement and settles down to sleep, muttering "good night sensei" and getting back half-asleep mumble of good night wish. Genos shuts his eyes and lets sleep mode take him into the realm of dreams.

Neither notices the ominous shadowy figure outside their window, cast in moonlight.

Saitama's dream looks… very weird. Vibrant purple and black colours surround him, pulsing pustules with veins covering them and the entire view feels unsettling on a deeply subconscious level. Saitama realises he is dreaming and remembers something called lucid dreaming where the person becomes aware of their dream state. He had a lucid dream a bit ago against the ground moles- whatever were they called again- and ponders if he could actually have some fun fighting against somebody strong in his dream state. Yet his instincts are on high alerted state, so he remains cautious and looks around, attempting to pinpoint any potential threats.

He catches movement in his peripheral vision and immediately accosts the blurry shadow figure.

"Oi, are you here to conquer the surface as well, sewer dude? Bring it!" He shouts and claps his fist into his palm. The blurry figure suddenly sharpens in appearance and Saitama can make out it's actual features: molding, cancerous and pustule filled face, sharp and long knives in place of it's fingers and weirdly enough, brimmed hat.

"Wait, aren't you from that old american film? The uhm… "A night mark on Elmo" -something?" Saitama points excitedly.

"It's "A Nightmare on Elm street"", the figure scoffs, "and I am called Akumu, your worst ephialtes."

Saitama picks his ear. "The what now?"

The purple and crueler looking Freddy Krueger lookalike sighs. "It does not matter. I'm not here to wax philosophy, I am here to make a proposition."

"Couldn't you have waited till morning? I wanted to sleep at least 10 hours, I'm beat. Although this lucid dream is kinda cool…" Saitama makes a show of looking around awed, but the uneasy feeling in his gut does not fade away.

Akumu does not look amused and clenches his fist, stretching his knife-fingers menacingly. "Don't play dumb with me, Saitama." Hearing his name coming out of the monster's mouth so casually makes chill creep down on his spine and he straightens his posture, narrowing his gaze.

"So what do you want? Spill the beans."

The monster's jaw breaks into a wide, cruel grin. "I want you to become a monster and join our cause, bring havoc into this world. With your strenght, we can bring the world to it's knees."

Saitama stares. "In your dreams."

"Heheheh…" the being laughs, unperturbed by Saitama's response. "Funny, that we are in fact, in my dreams. I control everything that happens in the dreamscape. Everything. For I am the Hypnos of Nightmares, everyone who dreams will bow down to my will." He raises his knife hand and points at Saitama. "You included. Your subconscious is my plaything now. And I can dig out your deepest, darkest secrets, hopes and fears. You will join us, one way or another."

Saitama grits his teeth. So much for peaceful slumber.

Genos did not recall a time when his dreams used to be this… vivid. Psychedelic even. He frowns as he looks at the violet zone he's standing on, the unnatural formation of abscesses making him feel on edge. He remembers turning in and activating sleep mode like he normally does, and yet his internal status readouts indicate he is not resting. Red ERROR message flashes in his status monitoring screen. Something is very off and he intends to find out what.

'Lucid dreaming? Possibly, but inconclusive, my scanners would confirm a resting state of my body in that case', his logical mind started to tick down potential causes. 'A monster attack is also unlikely, my proximity sensors would've sensed an intruder and a monster would have tried to take advantage of our sleeping states and strike. However, Sensei would have woken up and eliminated the threat instantly, if that was the case.' His golden irises scan the environment fruitlessly, not detecting any anomalies. 'My status informs me my physical body is also unharmed. I wonder what is going on…'

A sudden alert from his sensors makes him instantly turn and ready his stance, pointing his incineration cannon at the source; a blurry figure materialises roughly twenty meters away from him. A memory strikes him as he takes in the humanoid form with grotesque face, dirty sweater and a knife-glove.

"Why do you look like the fictional mass murderer from a classic American horror film that me and sensei watched few weeks ago? What is your intent? Answer me or I will eliminate you", he demands from the mysterious character.

The uncanny humanoid huffs in amusement. "Heh, straight to the point as always, Genos." Then the monster's visage turns into an ugly sneer. "Or should I call you Gennosuke? Or maybe even that dear nickname Gen your mother used to call you by?"

If Genos still had an organic heart, it would have leaped to his throat and he barely suppresses a flinch, black schlera widening. "How do you know--"

"Your real name?" The monster interrupts him, finger-knives scratching against each other in sinister fashion. "I know everything, my dear Genos. You may call me Akumu, the governor of dreamscape and your worst nightmare. Why don't you amuse me for a little while?" He taunts and waves Genos towards.

Genos' expression turns into controlled anger. He refused to show anymore how much this monster's knowledge has shaken him. "I will squeeze the answers out of you then."

"You can try."

Bright, white-hot plasma erupts from Genos' mechanical palm. "Incinerate!"

Large explosions and gouts of flame burst from the spot where the figure was last seen standing and Genos sprints into action.

His motion sensors catch the monster's blurred movement jumping out of the explosion he had caused and Genos chases swiftly with a thruster propelled punch and when that move gets expectedly blocked, he uses that momentum to extend his leg into a spinning kick at the monster's head. He's unprepared for the figure completely vanishing from his vision, untrackable.

'That fast!? No, that was not speed, that was--' he barely manages to correct his landing when sharp knives thrust at his side and he deflects with his own retractable arm-blade, swinging upwards, metal grinding on metal loudly as he pushes his opponent away and rears his other hand into a punch, high voltage escaping his closed fist. Again, the figure disappears before his strike connects and he immediately probes the area for any organisms.

'This monster can teleport at will, so he could appear from anywhere. I need to be cautious.'

His quick reflexes save him as he ducks a swipe aimed at the back of his neck, intent on decapitating him. He answers with a rocket booster powered heel kick into the being's stomach and hearing a satisfying grunt of pain, powers up both of his arm cannons to lift from the ground into another spinning kick. He clicks his tongue in annoyance when he hits empty air. But this time he is ready for it, the cybernetic engine inside his chest already energized.

Genos' eyes suffuse into golden light. 'Accelerate'

His form disappears into supersonic speed with a loud boom, kicking up soft mould in his wake.

Less than a blink later, his metallic form clears into existence behind Akumu, who had attempted to flank and stab him in his previous position. He allows a small smirk grace his lips at the confused sound his opponent makes when he realised he had missed the target.

"I have analysed your attack pattern. You lose."

"Machine Gun Blow!"

Genos' fists seem to phase into multiple copies at the extreme velocity of his vicious punches, each hit compacting forcefully into the unguarded back of his enemy and sending him flying.

'I got him now', Genos thinks victoriously and with grim determination to finish it, crouches and claps his arms together to fuse them, opening metal plates into several large cannons glowing with heat, ready to fire.

"Incinerate!" He shouts as he shoots a massive, spiraling beam of plasma directly at his foe, encompassing them in it's deadly ray. A solid hit that should have evaporated the monster entirely and he observes the spectacle of ruined and burning landscape, unfusing his sizzling arm cannons and puffing excessive steam out of his mouth.

A clapping sound on his left makes him gasp in disbelief and turn on his heel to face the gnarly monster. He appears entirely unhurt, even the brimmed brown hat he's wearing appears untouched. How-

"Bravo Genos, bravo. You sure like to put on a show eh?" Akumu comments derisively. Genos stares at him furiously and the clapping abruptly stops. He almost does not hear the following, soft whisper the Nightmare incarnation makes under his breath.

"My turn."

Genos' legs suddenly give out under him, severed from knees down.

'What?'

He grunts in surprised pain and falls on his side as Akumu teleports in front him, a pair of robotic shins in his hands. "Now what were you saying about me losing hm?" He tosses Genos' broken legs away like rags. "I don't think you scrutinized our conversations carefully enough, my dear Gennosuke. Forget something important when you fought me?" He jeers with a cruel tone.

Genos wracks his brain for anything significant he had missed, nervous at this new development. "You call yourself Akumu, the governor of dreamscape and self-proclaimed worst nightmare of mine." He delivers flatly and pulls his arm closer to support his upper-body weight.

"Good, now tell me what does that entail? Go on, use that remaining brain of yours", Akumu continues mockingly, tapping his head with a finger.

"…The governor of dreamscape…wait, you mean--"

This entire time, they had been inside a dream!? Everything felt so real. Too real. Even the brittle texture of the soil under his arms registered in his sensors, the energy output, pushback and heat of his Spiral Incineration Cannon felt too tangible. Genos had considered the possibility and discarded it, but now…if this monster implied it had full control over his dream…

The monster's face stretches into a wide smirk. "Welcome to your worst nightmare. Are you not entertained?"

Genos acutely wishes he hadn't gone to sleep at all.

Now my long thoughts about this and why I'm posting it now lol.

Akumu does not look amused and clenches his fist, stretching his knife-fingers menacingly. "Don't play dumb with me, Saitama."

"Good, now tell me what does that entail? Go on, use that remaining brain of yours", Akumu continues mockingly, tapping his head with a finger.

I swear to god Genos getting literally halved in two with one side of the brain remaining hadn't even crossed my mind. Or maybe it had, subconsciously. But damn if this is not a prophetic level taunt. I wrote this originally in 11th of May 2022.

Now my random discord thoughts about this from discord.

yap edgy teen genos oh my god I hadnt even realised THEY SOUND PHONETICALLY VERY SIMILAR TOO abjdsladfs<;f I think my subconscious is more brilliant than I am I had only thought about the alphabetic letters in it omggg

gennosuke 元之丞元 means "origin."　之 means "this. dictates."　丞 means "to assist."

Akumu actually means nightmare in japanese and bunch of the monsters have japanese sounding names too "What does ephialtes mean in modern Greek? Name. After the betrayal of Ephialtes, the name "Ephialtes" received a lasting stigma; it came to mean "nightmare" in the Greek language and to symbolize the archetypal traitor in Greek culture." lol I didnt even see the symbolism, it fits even better now because he wants to make saitama essentially betray everyone for personal gain for monsters and for saitama's personal interests hm I did not really make the villain speech as I wanted cuz I wanted to express that he controls dreams so he can do whatever and that it also translates into real world but I also wanted him to laugh when saitama quips "in your dreams" because it would be funny to a villain who's specialty is dream control

do I want him to go all out and the monster just overwhelming him, or do I want him to have difficulty even using his moves because it's a dreamscape and there's this funny thing about dreams where person often feels resistance to like, moving around and so your body can feel like it's not obeying your commands inside dreams even if you want it to or do I just want the monster to subvert his control like genos can't do anything because the monster is all powerful inside a dream

genos has to struggle, because the point is that if he loses, he would die inside his dream and become brain-dead for going into coma and what the monster wants is either saitama's overwhelming desire to help genos would aid the monster in using his power to turn saitama into a monster because the monster wills it or if that does not happen, genos would lose and die and saitama's anger would also turn him into a monster and the reason this could even happen would be because it's a dreamscape so the monster can manipulate what happens inside uuhm hold on lemme think more..

but also, I want to make it so saitama feels powerless to help genos, because he's isolated from genos inside his own dream and the monster can just showcase him what is happening inside genos dream (actually hold on my original plan was that there is a forcefield that keeps him at bay but there is no fucking way saitama could just.. go into genos dream and help him) (I am confusing my own narrative here uuh) it would work better if saitama cant just punch his way into genos dream but it would also give him no real way to help genos I had also thought that if saitama exits his own dream, he would leave genos behind to die inside his dream, so he cant just bust out willy nilly the conclusive moment would've been that despite the monster being in control of dreams, that saitama's overwhelming willpower would overturn the dream in his favour so he could go and defeat the monster inside genos dream and then they could exit actually would it make sense that the monster just connected their dreams anyways, I wanted to make it so the monster has control, so saitama cannot just punch it to non-existence and even if he did, he would doom genos into coma because genos could not get out on his own and saitama's dream would end if he defeated the monster on his side of dream maybe the monsters's physical form is actually really weak, so the very moment they both wake up, saitama could def just punch the creep but the real question is: do I write that they can like, use their powers but it's just not working at all or do I write it so that they feel super nerfed inside their dreams and that's why they can't touch this monster

I think I actually got it, they do not have to defeat the monster inside their heads, it is enough that saitama gets to genos via their connected dreams because he has enough willpower to force them to awaken despite the monster influence meanwhile, genos does not have this unbending willpower and he would be stuck if he was left alone (muokattu) people awaken from bad dreams, but it's the monster who keeps them inside their dream against their will is it too lame way to conclude?

also I kinda worry what would be the implication of… saitama busting out the dream barrier between his and genos dream to get to him I know there are some documentations bout dream world irl about shared dreaming aren't they? where people dream about the same thing or appear in other people's dreams randomly actually hold up what does genos even wear to sleep because that would be his dream appearance saitama would have his pyjamas maybe I can make saitama try to take down the monster, but it's just not working well for him and at first he feels kind of thrilled because he's having fun time fighting like against the subterraneans, but then the monster reveals how he would force saitama turn into a monster and does that villain explanation trope about what would happen to poor genos if he just defeated him here or left and it would also reveal the connected dream and saitama realises that genos is dreaming too and he's also losing and whatever thrill he had turns into dread but also the problem is that… if they dont have enough power to defeat this monster singularily because the monster controls the dreams and therefore, all the actions they can do against him, then how could they defeat them even if they tag teamed since the point is that the monster is undefeatable inside their dreams

hm, maybe they could TRY to tag team first but then figure out that the monster is still in control and perhaps even exerting it's control over them more because it's getting desperate it's plan to turn saitama into a monster is not working becuse saitama can now protect genos from him so idk, maybe saitama gets this genious idea and he actually slaps genos awake and then himself

but honestly, I've already built this monster into being something that can look at person's subconscious and knows everything, so it knows what that person hopes and fears and their memories, so it knows what is important to saitama and tries to use that knowledge against him

and I want to convey saitama feeling like he's being cornered via this intimate knowledge of his self, that he does not have choice because he cannot one punch this monster out of existence in his dream and unless he allows the monster to turn him also into a monster and recruit him, he would lose genos if he does not comply and if he allows the monster to kill genos, the monster would use his emotional state to turn him into a monster anyway convey that it's a lose/lose situation for saitama

also I had just though about the baku idea and it would be funny that when they wake up and see the baku and saitama is like "…what are you?" and then genos in typical genos fashion, goes into explanation about mythological creatures and then saitama cuts him off and is like "yea yea but why does it look like a (whatsitcalled)" and then baku starts to whimper and grovel because it's actually a small cowardly monster who just tried to appeal cool and useful to the monster association and who had watched too many horror movies and saitama is not amused and yeets him into the pavement below because he doesn't want to clean up monster guts from his apartment at 4am but it would also just kind of make slight of the entire dream that happened and im not sure I want that

So...dream monster Freddy Krueger that uses subconscious against them. :D

Depression, Coping Methods, and Genos

Right now, I feel like that one gif of Pedro Pascal laughing and then beginning to sob hysterically. Life is kicking my ass.

But speaking of depression, I wanted to do a little thinking about Genos, and his story.

His life has been pretty dark so far. Losing his childhood to the rampaging cyborg, becoming a cyborg himself.

But these aren't really the only big things that have happened to him. They're just the only events he's realized have had an effect on him.

Since then, he's become very closely involved with a man who has trouble reciprocating those emotions. He's been torn apart and rebuilt numerous times, losing bits of his humanity each times as he becomes more and more of a high tech murder machine.

His strength continues to fail him when he needs it most, meanwhile Saitama's time and attention becomes more and more divided on people he hardly sees as worthy of those things. Worst of all, no one seems to understand him, his goals, or his devotion to Saitama. He's often laughed off and ignored by people who are meant to be his peers, and even Saitama has no real interest in Genos' long winded stories.

That brings us around to his coping methods, one of the more prominent of which is his habit of long winded explanations of topics he finds important. His journey to Saitama, Saitama's time travel endeavor, etc. Aside from that, we have his obligatory journaling, his insistence on having a goal to work towards at any given time, and dependence on being able to respond to any given scenario with the calculated and emotionless precision of a machine.

That last one is arguably the most important, because of how it influences the above. Saitama is a very closed off person, and he expects Genos to respect that- which he does!

To his own detriment.

Genos is completely fine with their terms of agreement, but his overly compliant nature means his needs are ultimately ignored. The methods he's developed to express himself and interact with the world in a way that is comfortable for him are seen as nuisances in Saitama's lifestyle.

Ultimately, none of this seems to have much effect on Genos. At least, not in a traditional manner.

But Genos is not traditional, is he? And depression and anxiety can manifest in many forms.

I would argue that Genos' entire relationship with Saitama is one of the few visible effects of the internal havoc at play.

He seeks refuge and guidance under Saitama as an extension of his need to become strong enough to avenge his village. This leads to him suppressing his habits to conform. The problem is that he isn't Saitama, not even close. This is kind of where we see a devolution of Genos' ability to cope, as he descends into a manic state of endless self destructive behavior, enabled by Saitama's baseless encouragement and Kuseno's ability to fix whatever breaks.

Saitama is not a mentally healthy individual. As a result, any attempt to follow in his footsteps is not going to craft a mentally healthy individual. The problem is that both of these two are emotionally constipated. Saitama has lost connection with his emotions and had little desire to reconnect, and Genos works to shed all proof of his humanity.

We've already seen the end result of Saitama reaching his breaking point. I shudder to think of what will happen when Genos inevitably reaches his.

I feel like there's more to say, but this is getting long winded, and my brain is fried. If anybody has any additions or corrections to make though, I'd love to continue this line of thought, and maybe examine some other characters, since everyone in ONE'S work is mentally unstable in some way.
