im so curious abt what ppl carry around on the daily.....rb & tag what's in ur pockets/bag?

so i work for a small regional museum. remotely, i should add. the museum itself is about 2000km west, so i've never actually been there but i research and write articles about local history for them. and because the town was only formally settled in the 1920s and a lot of the museum's supporters are older, the majority of the history i write about is within, or just outside of living memory. this means that people will comment on our posts with memories or connections of their own. they'll tag their friends and family and say 'remember this?'

a few week ago, i wrote a week's worth of posts about immigration, largely displaced persons in the aftermath of the second world war. there was an outpouring of memories and people tagging their family members and sharing them. our notifications were blowing up with people saying "thanks for writing about my uncle" and "i knew them when i was young, but i never knew their story" and "she looks so beautiful here" and "our families used to get together for dinners, i'm still friends with his daughter."

regular people, non-historians, are inclined to think of history as a monolithic past leading up to the present; an easy timeline of textbook names and events. and we think of museums largely the same way. you have the louvre and you have the smithsonian and maybe a modern art museum or a niche museum for skeletons or canoes or one specific guy. museums are reserved for the big things, but they're also for the little things and people that will never be in textbooks.

and i'm thinking about the way people responded to those posts, seeing their own history remembered with the same reverence as the big stuff. maybe you never knew the people being written about, or maybe you did, and for a few days, they are alive again, and your neighbours and your classmates and your councilmen are remembering your family, and they are alive.

My dash is dead and I need way more writeblr's to follow and play tag games with so...

it's not that deep i admit but it's kind of funny how many polls are like "rb for sample size!" and people are like of course I will! and when gif makers and fan artists are like "rbs > likes" we get discourse about how that's literally manipulative and people can do what they want 😭

celebrity crush but in an aro/ace way. crush for lack of better word, because squish is not the right word. that's my little guy i look at pictures of in my phone and they make me happy. i see the picture! i watch the silly video! i listen to the song or podcast! i am cheered up! not just "im a fan and i like their stuff theyre so cool," it's "that's my celebrity crush!!!"

i keep seeing posts about how jupe’s not the villain and that he “did nothing wrong” besides allowing the gordy incident to lead to him feeding himself and the others to jean jacket (which… ok), and while i largely agree with the former:

WHY is everyone glossing over what he was doing to the Haywoods?

he was extorting them for their only source of income in order to feed his phantom and fantasy. he was buying their beloved horses, FULLY knowing that they hoped to buy them back some day, with the clear intention of using them as bait for his personal gain. he treated the Haywoods as his own cash cow vending machine, despite probably having at least an inkling about what Really happened to their father. he sent his own children to torment them after they took one fake horse from his property, despite all the horses he took from them.

he told them “su casa es mi casa” moments before trying to buy their farm again.

the reason this character is so incredible (besides the fact that he’s played by the incomparable Steven Yeun) is his lack of status as a hero or villain. his intentions were never malicious, only he was willing to hurt others for personal gain. he never physically harmed anyone, but his actions brought otherworldly death and destruction. he provided for his family, and brought them to their end.

Jupe is an incredible character and i could literally write books about him, but guys, let’s not pretend he’s not at fault; we all know the reason the Haywoods lived and he didn’t.

it’s my comfort character and i get to decide to disability projection (i think his second death injured his wings and back and left him with lasting balance and mobility issues. so i gave him crutches and now he’s just like me fr)

so apparently t/erfs who dislike the use of the progress flag want to switch to using bakers 9 striped variant (with lavender at the very top, as well as the sex and magic stripes) this is not to warn of a new dog whistle i dont think its there (yet?) this is to encourage we (trans and otherwise trans-positive people) consider using it more too.

there are more than 2, or 3, rainbow flags and i like switching between them purposefully when using them in edits and art. im not asking to only ever use the 9 stripes but i think what motivates the ones who dislike the progress flag (because it includes trans people) to use it is because its not used as much and can therefor be effectively "claimed". i dont want transphobes to have it. i dont want it to become a dog whistle.

& keep using the progress flag and calling it that, its alienating lgb transphobes lol
