SNOWFLAKE

Some people are like snowflakes-

Beautiful,

Mesmerizing,

And fleeting…

Yet still we try to catch them,

Hold on to them as they melt away,

Not because we don't know they can't stay,

But because of our wish to be within their midst longer.

And through the hurt we hold on to the image of them,

Frozen in our mind's lens…

Thank you for letting me know you.

Thank you for being my friend.

Thank you for melting on the floor of my palm.

I hope I am as beautiful a memory as you are to me.

Paint me with the most vivid colours your mind can conjure.

Recall my presence as a series of brush strokes that embody the savoir-faire of sunshine -

Warm, vivid, frivolous.

Think of me, when the excitement of adventure is rife through your every valve, ventricle and artery.

Take the thought of me and store me with the thoughts that make you feel the most alive.

Reminisce about my tan, flower- stitched boots resting leisurely on the dashboards of all who would allow it -

and think fondly of the scuffs they leave.

Think of me as you would rolling hills, boundless seas and the infinite blue above us; free.

MISCALCULATION- Love Definition Series

You ruined it for me

I don't think you understand the enormous damage you did

When you lied and claimed to love

When instead of bringing me light

You became my darkness.

And now I'm only with you

To find the right moment to kill you

I'm too filled with vengeance

Yet I don't know how to hurt you

Because all I had was love for you

Yet love is nothing to you

I find myself struggling to endure

Even as I seek to finish you

You're ending me-

My heart in tatters

My brain shredded from trying to decipher the sword you are

And everytime you say you love me

Believing me still a fool for you

I wish foolishness could grace me once more

Just to take away the piercing pain whenever you say those otherwise beautifully soothing words

I guess my target was really me

My punishment for calling your poison love.

Miscalculation, the definition of your love.

I need a voice

A voice audible a and firm enough

A voice precise and concisein it's 'No'

Because the creeping serpent refuses to hear me

Tell him to go away

Tell him I'm exhausted of his loud leeching off in my head

Tell him to feed on himself for once

Because my soul is tired

Remind him too

To take the darkness he came in with

For I do not have the heart to carry them,

They are too bloody, too noisy, too heavy

I need a voice

To send him off

Because I'm tired of playing host

And I'm out of courtesy…

MERRY

It would be lovely

If the festive season could be festive for all of us

Because for some it is trauma triggers time

While for some the festivities are in the heavens while on earth it's sorrow time

And for others it's a depressing reminder of where we aren't and what we don't have

But I hope we all remember that we are here and that is reason enough to be merry

That we are loved

That we are saved

That there is hope

And that there's second, third and nth chances...

So stand under that mistletoe

Kiss your woes goodbye

It's a time to be merry

And you're reason enough to join in the fun...

A hug to the grieving

Applause for the ones trying daily

A fist bump to the ones fighting loudly...silently

It's a merry christmas,

Not the clothes,

Not the trips,

Not the marital status checks,

Not the job checks

It's a merry christmas

Because you're here

He kept breaking me.

He kept at it until the glue gave up.

He shred me apart.

He tore at me until no thread could sew me up.

He was going to kill me,

EASY LOVE

Easy to talk about how love stays

Because it does and should if it's true

But there is more to love than enduring

There's more depth to love than patience

There's more life in love than compromise

And your failing to learn this is lesson enough for me that

Your love is only on the surface

And I love myself enough to know I deserve a deeper love than yours.

Easy to talk about all the calm and quiet things love can be

We forget the passion

We forget the fierceness

We forget, like you forgot to fight for me

Love stays but it chases too, didn't they tell you?

Yet you just stood and watched me walk away

Love frees but you could at least entice me back home, make me know I have one in you

Easy to talk about love in normal times

But darling, no great love story was raised on sunny skies alone.

I guess it's easy to talk about love when the hard work is eliminated.

Easy to see your love was never nurturing enough for my future.

REGRET LOVE

I despise your loving me like I wanted

After losing me.

For a while I considered attempting another go at us

But I deserve a love that loves me in the present and not in hindsight don't you think?

I mean, you always knew how to act right by me,

Yet chose not to

Do you even love me, have you ever?

All I see in your eyes is deep care for me and

Reluctance to let go of a deep love that you might never receive again hence your fear

And I pray you get a huge surprise in that regard

But it is your hesitating in holding on to me and the lack of passion that has me dragging my suitcase

I can never reconcile my worth with this may-be-love, this one-day-love laced in regret

Because even now as you stutter your vows you're rooted in our past and not me…

Love's already an uncertain game, too unstable to tolerate your tittering indecisiveness

My jealousy can't get over that.

Silently wailed

Ceaselessly mourned

Put my heart aside and learned

For there's a lesson in every happening

Had an epiphany

That to heal is to learn

Because as I studied the lessons

The seed of my tears intended

Healing naturally came to be.

It is in the digesting of pain

That the venom in the sting is extracted.

A love that makes you apologise for te past...

How dismal was I,

Trying to fake it till I made it with love?

How insane was I,

Trying to quantify the non quantifiable?

What is love?

Everyday you expand my knowledge of this precious enigma.

Did I really know love before?

Perhaps I did but my knowledge was limited.

Even when not next to you I see, feel and simultaneously miss your love,

How is that possible?

Yet you do it all the time.
