Hello again. First, thank you for your answer to my request; it was very good and I liked it alot. And I was wondering if you can do a couple more. No rush at all, and I promise to separate each question. I just love Chaggie and I loved your analysis on them. But again, I won't rush you and I understand if you can't. So, I'll start with my first question to about the couple: According to their voice actors (sorry couldnt find link), Charlie and Vaggie's bond are at the core of the show; given that, how do you think their relationship will evolve in season 2?
My second question; like I explained in the previous question, I'm separating each request because they're pretty long. Anyway, my second Chaggie related ask if you could do an analysis of Charlie's reaction to learning of Vaggie's secret. During the trial, she was all confident and defiant but all that leaves the second Vaggie's secret is revealed; then the fight is gone from her. Her anger at Vaggie isn't her typical comedic anger or anger with her demonic form; it's filled with coldness, iciness, distance, and stoicness; it still hurts me a little whenever I think about Charlie's cold questioning if Vaggie would've told her the angels' weakness if she knew and then coldly asking if Vaggie was with "us" (her and Alastor). How despite having to deal with a corrupt Heaven, Adam's threat, and finding allies, Charlie is more concerned with how Vaggie kept a secret from her. How more easily angered she was because of it; and by that I mean how more openly annoyed she was at Alastor's taunts instead of brushing it off, rolling her eyes at Rosie's joke at her and Alastor being a couple, and flipping off Susan. It was just so...I can't even find the right words.
Last question. Something I've noticed that's very cute. When Charlie introduces Vaggie to Lucifer, she refers to her as "my girlfriend". This is totally fine but it may realize something - Charlie didn't also add that Vaggie was the manager of the Hotel. But when introducing the other Hotel occupants, she referred to them as their title. Just to make it clear, I am NOT bashing Charlie or anything. I just thought it was interesting. What are your thoughts on it? And as promised, this is my last Chaggie question for a while.
Hi!
Thank you for passing by again. I love writing about Hazbin and the Hellaverse in general, so thank you for your questions :)
I will answer them in reverse, if it is not a problem.
What are your thoughts on it?
Tumblr media
I don't have many meta-thoughts on it. I think the choice was made because Charlie telling Lucifer Vaggie is her girlfriend and his reaction to it were the most important pieces of information that needed to be conveyed by the dialogue. After all, Charlie sharing that Vaggie is her romantic partner is a much more intimate detail than simply saying Vaggie is the Hotel Manager. In general, Vaggie and Lucifer's short interaction is full of information and details:
Charlie introduces her girlfriend to her dad - This is sweet, but it also gives us an idea of how estranged father and daughter are. After all, Chaggie have been together for three years by this point.
Vaggie's reaction conveys how nervous she is about meeting Lucifer. She is worried about first impressions of course. However, her covering her eye also foreshadows her anxiety to be outed as an angel.
Lucifer's reaction to the reveal is a strong characterization point for him. He tries to be supportive, but does so in an absolute weird way (as per usual). It is a sweet, but awkward interaction.
In short, a lot needs to be conveyed in very little time, so it makes sense you want to cut the unimportant stuff. All in all, Charlie saying Vaggie is the Hotel Manager would not have added anything to it. It would have meant nothing both for the audience and for Lucifer.
If you want to go deeper, though, you can say:
Vaggie's introduction focusing on Charlie's personal bond with her nicely foils Alastor's one, which focuses on Alastor's role as Hotel Host. In general, Alastor and Vaggie are two opposite influences in Charlie's life. So, their opposite introductions are interesting.
Charlie herself mostly sees Vaggie as her girlfriend. That is Vaggie's role in her life and how she wants her dad to see her first and foremost. It is something that simply comes natural to her. The same can't really be said for the other guests and staff. Angel, Pentious, Nifty and Husk all grow to be Charlie's found family. However, she initially sees them as her guests and staff. Vaggie is instead Charlie's girlfriend and only later on she becomes a member of Charlie's staff.
Could do an analysis of Charlie's reaction to learning of Vaggie's secret?
I am not writing a long analysis because I am planning a longer meta to explore this. In short, though, Charlie's reaction to Vaggie's secret is important because it marks the beginning of her character arc. As a matter of fact Charlie represses all her negative feelings.
She doesn't let herself feel fear, resentment or anger. She represses it all being a cheerful and optimistic persona. However, Vaggie breaking her trust makes Charlie's mask crack. She loses her living crutch at the worst possible time, when Adam is coming to kill all her loved ones. As a result, Charlie's coping mechanism shakles violently and we are able to take a glimpse at everything Charlie hides.
The self-loathing, annoyance and anger Charlie shows in episode 7 aren't things she feels because Vaggie kept a secret from her. These are things she always feels, but usually manages to hide. However, Vaggie is such an integral part of Charlie's life and self-identity that the moment she discovers Vaggie isn't who Charlie thought, the Princess starts doubting who she herself even is:
Charlie: She always supported me, and my ideas, and-and- and now, I don't know whether or not that was just more of the lies!
So, Vaggie is a catalyst for Charlie to take a glimpse at a part of herself she ignores, but that she needs to integrate. Her shadow:
Tumblr media
This is why episode 7 focuses so much on Alastor and Charlie's relationship by the way. That is because Alastor is the character embodying the jungian shadow and he is both dangerous (he makes a deal with Charlie), but also helpful (he helps Charlie with the Cannibals). The shadow is both. It is one negative emotions, but also one's postential. That is true for Charlie as well.
Moreover, the reveal Vaggie isn't as perfect as Charlie thought is clearly foreshadowing for what will happen with Lilith. Here comes your last (first?) question.
According to their voice actors (sorry couldnt find link), Charlie and Vaggie's bond are at the core of the show; given that, how do you think their relationship will evolve in season 2?
Charlie and Vaggie's bond is the core of the show, as they clearly foil Lucifer and Lilith. I think the Overture makes it very clear that Lucifer and Lilith's story is important. Either way, it would not be told to us at the very beginning of the show. Theirs is a tragic love story, as it broke the world and the two are currently separated.
Charlie and Vaggie instead are framed as a new generation, who will repair what was broken. That is why the two girls foil both the Fallen Angel and the Demon Queen in different ways. They are meant to redeem the Devil and his Wife. In particular, Charlie as the protagonist must face and solve her complicated feelings for her parents:
Charlie: No, we just have never been close. After he and mom split, he never really wanted to see me. He calls, sometimes, but only if he's bored or like needs me to do something.
Charlie: Not that long, only...seven....years, off doing something important, I'm sure!
But Lilith's hope remained. And her dream passed down to their precious daughter, the Princess of Hell.
Notice that Charlie clearly projects all her parents' bad qualities of on Lucifer and all their good qualities on Lilith. Both Lucifer and Lilith are neglectful, but Charlie only recognizes Lucifer's neglect, not Lilith's. Similarly, the Hazbin Hotel is the embodyment of both Lucifer and Lilith's dream, but Charlie only mentions Lilith. So, she has to better understand both of her parents, if she wants to grow up.
In season 1, Charlie starts with Lucifer, specifically she discovers her father's hidden light:
Tumblr media
In season 2, Charlie will have instead face her mother's shadows:
Tumblr media
Just like she did face Vaggie's ones in season 1. No doubt, when the time comes Vaggie will be by her side, so that Charlie can empathize with Lilith and understand her, just like she did with Vaggie.
Apart from this, both girls need to continue their arcs:
Charlie has just made a first step into integrating her demonic parts. At the end of season 1, she needs the help of both Alastor and Lucifer (two mentors) to succeed. Alastor helps Charlie charming the Cannibals. Lucifer helps Charlie defeat Adam.
Vaggie has just made a first step into dealing with her abuse. She shows Lute mercy, but she is still harboring strong anger and hate. Not to count she has just started dancing and self-expressing.
So, both will keep inspire each other to grow. Also, structurally, I would say Charlie is the protagonist and Vaggie is the deuteragonist. So, they will both keep on sharing the screentime.
Thank you for your asks!

Hello. Been a while. I was wondering if you could do a request for me? If you read the Encanto book, "Tale of Three Sisters", could you please get the snippets/screenshots of whenever Luisa an Isabela discuss/mention Mirabel?
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!
I did read it a while ago... Luis and Isabela get their own POV chapters, so there might be quite a few mentions of Mirabel spread out. It honestly depends on how much time it would take to get them all... If I do, I'll make sure to tag you!

Your new header - the one with the three ladies, are they from a book, comic, or something else? If so, what's the title?
They are actually my OCs I got commissioned! From a project I will, God willing, be querying later this year (aka I'm revising my first few chapters - again)
Middle is the protagonist who just wants her powers back (oc: ally), knife girl is her twin sister with reluctant death powers (oc: jamie), and on the right we have a prodigal fire kiddo who is very sweet and uses mostly she/her and also sometimes he/him (oc: flames). They are all my kiddos and I love them very much!
I've also had some other art of them commissioned over the years, featuring
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's very much ATLA + Six of Crows + PJO, I think, in which a bunch of chosen ones have to contend with growing up together and their different values/priorities as their world hurtles towards conflict. Basically inspired by watching ATLA as a kid and going, "How do they always know the Avatar is going to be a good person?" (so some of mine aren't) as well as "What if there were multiple Avatars running around?" rather than just having one to make all the decisions. And voila!

3/7 kiddos from the last 10 years of my life <3

From DC Comics and part of the Batfam: What is Alina Wayne's story?
Hey sorry this is late!! In the comics Alina features in Batman: The Dark Prince Charming as the possible daughter of Bruce Wayne after a one night stand with a woman named Mariah Shelley. At the end of it there is a possibility she could be The Joker’s Daughter as well. A link to a summary of the story here!
As for my fannon universe I am building, I am not sure who her biological father will. I know I want her living with Bruce as, in the comics, her mother enters into a coma.  She’s going to get into crimefighting a little bit under the codename Sparrow.

I can't believe it's been 2 years since I've joined Tumblr, but here we are. ^_^<3<3<3 I've certainly branched out into multiple fandoms since I first started and it's been great making a lot of friends over the course of this time and seeing what's new every day! ^_^<3<3<3 I know the lettering isn't much to snuff at, but hopefully the characters I drew make up for it. ;) Thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to follow me and/or shared with me what they like so that it may brighten my day! My life has definitely never been the same since I joined and I hope you'll all be with me still going forward! ^_^<3<3<3
*I know we haven't seen Sir Pentious with angel wings yet, but since we don't know if his hood will serve as wings, if he may actually get six of them to go with the seraphim motif or if he may have none at all, I still went ahead and added a pair of them to help emphasize he's an angel. :)

Book of Life or the secret behind Joaquin’s color palette
Recently me and my friend @skimpilydressedwithanaxe were talking about how each reincarnation of Maria and Manolo have the same color present in their designs,for example Maria has red clothes in each of her life:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Manolo has black inclusions either in clothes or hair:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then we noticed how we can’t say the same about Joaquin:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Out of all Mondragons reincarnations,his outfit stands out like a sore thumb,considering that he doesn’t wear anything dark/purple.
Knowing how important the color palette is in Jorgverse (term made by @phoenixlionme ,not me) we decided to analyze and come with different conclusions as to why Joaquin looks so different from Acat or Zoe.
1.The artists simply forgot
This one is self explanatory:the film crew were too busy with the plot then easter eggs.Some could’ve been unaware of the “reincarnation law” going on.
2.The change was put there to visually indicate the dichotomy with Manolo
During many instances in film Manolo is shown as the black sheep in his family,which is reinforced by the fact that his matador clothes are mostly dark.Meanwhile Mondragon’s bright uniform is another indicator of his status as a beloved hero of San Angel.Knowing the proximity of purple to black, the designers decided to change Joaquim's key color to something lighter.
3.Joaquin will embrace the purple in (hopefully upcoming???) sequel
It was said in one of Jorge Gutierrez tweets(or in Wiki if you’re too lazy to search for it)that the Book of Life 2 will revolve around Joaquin looking for his father in the Land of Unknown.That can also be interpreted as Joaquin digging up his past and rethinking his actions,which may lead to the palette change.
4.A symbol of breaking the cycle
The fans of Jorgverse may have noticed how almost all reincarnations of Joaquin  are given the role of a “jealous third weel” ,trying to ruin or get between two lovebirds in order to have their crush all to themselves.But at the end of the movie,Joaquin comes off this path,deciding that the well being of his friends is more important that his ambition.So the blue in his outfit was given as the hint that he would feel different about Maria and Manolo’s union than his past lives,therefore the color change.

Hazbin Hotel Thoughts : Foils 7
Masterpost here
The lovely @phoenixlionme messaged yours truly again with a request, and so I shall deliver for the next two foils. Credits to them, because I hadn't really thought about it, so, here's to you my friend ! Just so you know, I might be paraphrasing or outright quoting you, because what you said was really spot-on and I couldn't have said it better.
So the request was about Vaggie VS Alastor - and it's quite the interesting dynamic indeed, can't believe I missed it. Might turn into a triangle of Foils with Lucifer added into the fray, given how all three revolve around Charlie (with her as the focus point).
Vaggie was here from the beginning of the Hotel project - or at least, when it started to consolidate into actually something. Charlie was already out and helping during (or directly after) Exterminations (seen when the two first met three years ago), but it's likely that Vaggie played a huge hand in actually helping her make it take off : pitching, brainstorming, securing funds (not that Charlie doesn't have any), keeping her focused and on-task ("Life isn't a musical, hun"), basically being grouding and seeing the practical side of things. There's a reason why she's the manager, or else Charlie would be still stuck on "dolphin hugs and rainbow sparkles".
Alastor on his side has the power and notoriety to make it happen : he brings in staff, arranges furniture, and his well-established reputation as the Radio Demon does the work for him. Alastor has the connections both Charlie and Vaggie don't naturally have : Vaggie keeps a low profile (and given she's a Fallen angel only knowing Charlie, justified) and Charlie is alienated from her own people despite her wishes to connect - both as a Princess and daughter of Lucifer, and due to her personality, being to sweet and naive to be taken seriously. What everyone remembers is that she's the delusional "brat" of Lucifer, that's it : Vox only speaks of her in those terms, Val can't even remember her name outside of that it sounds "mannish", Alastor literally pictures her as "Lucifer's delusional daughter" in his 'ad' for the Hotel, Katie Killjoy in the pilot presents her as "Princess Charlotte". Nobody sees her as herself and cares about her own project... except both Vaggie, her girlfriend, and Alastor, who addresses Charlie directly and acknowledges her dreams - for his own twisted source of fun.
Joining on what Phoenixlionme said, both are supportive of Charlie... for widely different reasons : Vaggie is genuine and really wants her girlfriend to succeed, even if it won't hold her back from critisizing and pointing out the flaws, but it's constructive. Alastor is selfish and wants entertainment, being fairly dismissive of Charlie's struggles (see Ep 7) and only supports her only as long as he can push his agenda, and use her : her position as Princess of Hell, and "like her daddy she's madly powerful", is what makes it worthwhile to him, but he still acknowledges her person and dreams, "one of a kind, a charming demon belle", even if he admits getting a bit attached to the group. Alastor and Vaggie are both protectors of the Hotel, that sometimes get annoyed with the residents : Vaggie is more comical because she's the only sane one next to Husk having to deal with Angel, Pentious, Niffty, and Alastor's antics when he's in the mood to screw everyone over, while Alastor is more terrifying because he has way less morals than her (or especially skewed ones) and is willing to let most of the antics slide (in fact, some he relishes in, like Niffty's) but can still get annoyed at Angel's promiscuity towards him, and is straight-up threatening Husk the moment Husk pushes too far. Also, Vaggie sincerely cares, while Alastor doesn't. However, they both take the role seriously : Vaggie points her spear at whoever she thinks is a threat (like Pentious and Alastor - not wrong on that last one) while Alastor reminds everyone why he's here and cuts off his friendship with Mimzy the moment the Hotel is threatened.
Phoenixlionme also rightfully points out that both have a mysterious past : Alastor is a big question mark in Hell, Vaggie's is revealed in Ep 6 - up to that, she was only "Charlie's girlfriend" and the "Hotel manager". However, both go in opposite ways about it : Vaggie is very content with her past staying a secret, which brings up trouble later between her and Charlie, and she's genuinely ashamed. Alastor on the other hand relishes in the attention he gets for his secrets, that he also keeps close to his chest, and basks in the spotlight - he needs it on him, contrary to Vaggie, and visibly gets pissy when he doesn't get it. It shows how they both go at things : Vaggie is ultimately a team-player, while Alastor wants to be the MVP. And even if Vaggie is now outed as a Fallen angel, her true origins are still up in the air : there's a higher chance she might have been human (Salvadoran, being Hispanic) but nothing is confirmed. Alastor has a human background (of Creole heritage, died in the 30s, was a radio host and serial killer) but fuck if anyone currently knows what his deal is. They also have self-esteem issues : Alastor has too much to cover hidden insecurities, Vaggie is noted by Husk to hate herself. Alastor is a proud killer of many while Vaggie did it out of (misguided) duty and ashamed of her high body coutn as a past Exorcist, but is still willing to "make the mistakes" (Whatever It Takes) for Charlie and her group, fighting for her loved ones. Alastor is the one to bail to save his own tail (though he did put up a good fight and still threw his weight in), because that is not where it ends for him. It should be noted that both aren't afraid to punch above their weight class, however.
Ironically, this makes them both the "angel" and "devil" on Charlie's shoulders, as Phoenixlionme rightfully pointed out - which also allows me to tack on with Lucifer, who's, ironically, also the "angel" on Charlie's shoulder : Alastor drives her to take decisions that are detrimental to herself (making a deal for information in Ep 7) while both Vaggie and Lucifer are genuinely standing by Charlie's side to support her entirely and have no further agenda. They were left behind by Heaven and have all reasons to think it wouldn't work - Lucifer actually comes around on that - yet are her most active and vocal supporters, while Alastor can't be bothered by her tears and emotional distress. The opening scene of Ep 7 is also notable to analyse : Vaggie gives Charlie space (maybe Charlie asked her to and Vaggie respected her demand) while Alastor immediately jumps on the occasion to prey on her insecurities and catch her in a vulnerable moment to wring a deal out of her. She even tells him that she has no time for his "sick idea of a joke", but he keeps pushing to hook her on the deal.
Vaggie (and later Lucifer too) drive Charlie to be the best version of herself, and step in to either pick her back up ("Come on, little lady, why the frown ?") or fight at her side, more or less literally (Vaggie manning the trust exercise to try to help, and feeling bad when she thinks it doesn't work) while Alastor only steps in when he has his role to uphold and generally doing his own thing, taking the helm to steer into his own purposes and getting Charlie under his power ("She's filled with potential that I could guide"), sticking with her to be on the winning side. Hell's Greatest Dad shows that Lucifer threatens this particular position, so he'll manipulate Charlie back under his thumb, appealing to her insecurities, while Lucifer feels replaced and tries to help his daughter out of love, a desire to protect her from harm (to the point of "rigging the game because he's the ref") and a will to fix his family. This is well-shown when Alastor immediately reacts sourly to Lucifer, and Lucifer is dismissive of him, but embraces Vaggie on the spot (even if he gets her name wrong) and fully accepts her from the get-go.
Another point I agree with Phoenixlionme is that Vaggie and Alastor both hide their emotions : Vaggie needs to be drunk to drop her guard, and rarely emotes more dynamically than her usual sullen frown or tiny smiles, while Alastor constantly plasters on his hundred-watt grin as a tool to show power. They do have a wide range of emotions, but both present them very subtly - you'll have to look for the minute changes in their face to tell. They're both more stoic than the others (Alastor keeps the same smile on, Vaggie is hardened by her life) and keep a cool head in harsh situations, becoming the leader in a fight (Charlie follows Vaggie with her shield, while, though Pentious is the one playing general, Alastor also is one of the main players and provides the shield and fight against Adam). They don't cry (well, aren't seen crying yet), and only show their true feelings of vulnerability in alone moments (Alastor breaking down mentally, Vaggie being hurt when Charlie gives her the cold shoulder), although Vaggie is healthier in dealing with them because she still talks to Charlie about it once she passes the hurdle, and is honest about hers.
One is driving Charlie away from people and is only helping on the surface for his selfish purposes, the other actually helps her connect and make her dreams come true the way Charlie wants it.
And here you have it ! Again, all thanks to @phoenixlionme, also credits to them, because some of what I wrote are their own musings and words. Next Foils in the series also stems from their request, with very interesting points, so, as one Radio Demon would say, stay tuned !
Again, Masterpost here.

Here is the promised sequel to The False Madrigal, based on a prompt by @phoenixlionme.
Please note that this is not written in Mirabel’s POV, it flicks between several characters. No hate to any of the characters, they are all dealing with their own things.
Some of my headcanons for the childhood of the Madrigals and Mirabel’s full name. I’ll talk about them more separately later.
Also, this has an ambiguous ending - I know who did it and why. But let’s see if anyone can guess first.
~~~~~~
The True Madrigals
“Isn’t it perfect, mi princesa?” Abuela asked.
The mural looked even better under the golden light of the sunset. The tones were warmer and the colours shift in splendour. Everyone looks better, in her opinion. Isabela doesn’t.
“So perfect,” Isabela answers, taking Abuela’s hand. “Abuela, can I ask you something?”
“Of course. Anything.”
“I’ve been curious. Why isn’t my sister in the mural?”
Abuela glances to the right side. Her eyes narrowed, inspecting the piece carefully.
“Señor Cortez must have asked her and clearly she refused,” Abuela answered. She sounded disappointed, rarely a tone Isabela had to hear, yet she still shifted in discomfort. “You know how silly she is with photographs. She is a child with strange ideas.”
“She was surprised yesterday,” Isabela said.
“Was she? Well, children can lie and act out, Isabela. It is an insult to us and Señor Cortez for her to act so poorly.”
Taking a breath, Abuela turns back to Isabela.
“I expect that your portrait will be just as fine as the mural.” Abuela smiles, changing the subject.
She had liked it when she saw it the first time. That was two months ago. And don’t get her wrong, she still did. It’s just… something about Camilo’s annoying questions yesterday made her hate her image though, and now they wouldn’t leave her head.
Would the whole thing have to be redone? The space between her and Dolores looked too small and awkward, assuming Dolores would also be married off after her. Isabela thought they all would be. Abuela wants more blessings, more generations - surely she can’t be expected to deliver on that front alone?
Fuck.
She knows Abuela wants grandchildren from her, and a lot at that, but… she’s never thought about exactly how many before. Is she wanting Isabela to create the next generation herself? Her and Mariano’s babies…
No.
That’s not going to happen.
Tío Bruno’s vision said as much.
She was going to get the life of her dreams, to quote the prophet himself. His visions are always true.
Besides, there isn’t that much room. The whole mural will be off balance if Señor Cortez tried to squeeze Mariano in there. And it’s pretty close to the ground, right? That’s not much room for one baby, never mind six.
Maybe something is going to happen in the next few months.
She has been quiet about the relationship recently. It isn’t what it use to be. A sign of them drifting apart. She could marry someone else, someone she got along with better. If she hears another song, if he shows her another poem, she’s going to go insane.
In her head, she dared to ask. “But what about Mariano?”
“Oh, how wonderful, Isabelita!”
Shit. Flowers burst against her skull. She said that out loud?
Abuela is beaming, glowing. “What a splendid idea! It is inspiring to see your devotion to Mariano. I would never have thought of adding the husbands myself… What would I do without you?”
Isabela isn’t listening.
As if sensing Isabela’s emotions, Abuela tightens her grip comfortingly and whispers, “You need not worry, I’m sure Señor Cortez be more than happy to adjust his work when the time comes.”
Isabela smiles.
She needs a stronger word than fuck.
~~~~~~
Isabela has barely been back for five minutes when Luisa bursts into the room.
“Isabela! Stop growing foxgloves near the donkey pen! You know they’re poisonous!” Luisa yelled. “Señor Ruiz’ donkey has died.”
“It’s not my fault if the stupid things keep eating them! And they weren’t near the pen. They are growing off Casita.”
Isabela was a grown woman. Why did she have to deal with Luisa’s petty complaints? Her sister could just simply move the donkeys elsewhere. Or just tell the animals to stop.
The younger sister growled. “It is your fault because you’re the selfish witch who keeps growing them!”
Isabela recoils, physically flinching in the vanity mirror at Luisa’s words. Her eyes narrow, nostrils flare, her lip curls. “Selfish? I have been—”
“Ugh, not this again. Isabela Madrigal and her tragic tale of having to be the eldest grandchild,” Luisa groaned sarcastically. “Just stop growing poisonous flowers!”
There’s a squeak from the door that stops them before the fight can become physical.
“Dolores?” Isabela questions, flowery vines dragging an unsuspecting Luisa out of the way. The older smirks as she struggles. “Have you come to tell Luisa how it isn’t my fault she built the donkey pen beside my flowers?”
“My fault?!” Luisa squawks from the ground. “You’re the only one with roses coming out of your ass!”
“I’m telling Abuela—”
“¡Primas!” They stop. More from the shock of Dolores’ volume and her tone that almost sounds concerned, compared to the usual quiet monotone.
“What?” They both asked, simultaneously.
Dolores didn’t respond. She tilted her head, something she only did when listening for a certain sound.
Isabela groaned with impatience. “Dolores?”
“Hm! Sorry,” their cousin whispered, shaking her head a little. “I was making sure Abuela wasn’t coming this way. I need to talk to you about something.” The pair nodded. Begrudgingly, Isabela let Luisa leave the greenery chains. “I just noticed your sister isn’t in the mural.”
“Course she is, why wouldn’t she be?” Luisa said.
“I already know about this,” Isabela piped up. “Abuela told me that Señor Cortez asked her if she wanted to be in it because she so weird with photos, and she said no.”
“I never heard him asking her.”
“Well, there’s no way you can remember everything little thing you hear, Dolores.”
“I don’t think Abuela would’ve wanted her missing, regardless of her saying no, it makes the family look incomplete.” Luisa argued. “The mural was two months ago. Her picture has probably just faded.”
“Your red does look very washed out.”
Dolores is now the one frustrated. At least, Isabela and Luisa seem to be agreeing on something for once.
“Alright, if it’s just merely fading, I’ll ask him to repaint the mural. And then we’ll see who’s wrong and who’s right.”
~~~~~~
Days pass, the middle of May blooms with the promise of a perfectly joyous summer, with a new gift to come and a marriage on the way.
Señor Cortez is packing away his painting supplies.
The gossip of town reveal it’s just a touch up on the faded colours. After all, April had brought some tough weather and Pepa had tried (and failed) to counter it.
Dolores, Isabela and Luisa stand before it.
“Huh,” Luisa mumbles. “She really isn’t there.”
“I told you, she didn’t want to be. I asked Señor Cortez and he said he assumed she didn’t want to be in it. Problem solved. So why do you still look bothered, Dolores?” Isabela asked.
“Because none of us fucking noticed, that’s why. It’s been here for two months. And nobody said or did anything!”
Luisa shrugged. “Surely she would have said something, you know, if it bothered her?”
“She asked when she first saw it,” Isabela said. “But she didn’t complain to ask to be added.”
“Maybe she thought that Señor Cortez would just add her in anyways and was just surprised to see she was actually allowed to sit out? We always make her stand for photographs.”
“Sounds possible,” Dolores commented.
The three leave, returning to their chores with a clear mind, happy to leave this argument behind.
~~~~~~
With Antonio’s fifth birthday fast approaching, Julieta, Pepa, Agustín and Félix stare for days on end.
“I swear, Cortez has made your hair greyer.” Pepa says, tauntingly beside her sister.
“My hair isn’t that grey.”
“I forgot how bright the colours were,” Agustín comments. “It’s almost blinding.”
“Maybe we should add our handprints at the bottom. Just to give it a more personal touch.” Félix ponders out loud.
“That’s a great idea!”
“No,” Julieta intervenes. “Remember how much you infected your cut last time you used paint? I won’t let you near it. We can’t have another shortage on ingredients from me trying to heal that.”
Agustín chuckles, pulling her closer. “I promise, I learnt my lesson I won’t do it again. Watching Luisa try to cram all my chores in with her own was a nightmare.”
“Remember when Luisa didn’t work?”
“Remember when all the kids didn’t work?” Félix suggests.
“Isabela and Luisa just ran circles in the garden, competing over nothing and everything, biting each other.” Julieta grumbled, rubbing her temples at the thought of how often she had to scold them not to.
“I forgot how violent they were,” Pepa said.
“Their first words, the first steps…”
“Dolores was ‘Papí’ and Camilo was ‘hola’. Oh! It only feels like yesterday when Toñito started saying ‘Mamí’.” Pepa cried.
Félix opened the umbrella above them, they huddled closer. “Luisa use to scream ‘Papa’ and ‘Bela’ at every opportunity.”
“My ears are still ringing.” Agustín laughed. “Isabela loved ‘no’, didn’t she? And what else, mi amor? Mirabel was ‘purple’.”
“Her first eleven words were all colours.
Pepa gasped. “Agustín and I threw books off the shelf to get Mirabel to walk. She’d retrieve the book, put it back and go back to playing. She use to cry when things got messy, like every time Camilo made a mess with his food.”
“You couldn’t have just held her hand like the other children?”
“She was never as restless as them. She was like a kitten, just playing with yarn in the corner. And now look at her! Fifteen years later, all grown up and…”
The wind picks up and the umbrella is long gone, smacking straight into a passing cart, as rain pours harder. Julieta sighs, fondly.
“Pepa, she isn’t even your daughter.”
“Are you alright, mi vida?”
The red-haired woman merely points.
The other three follow, their eyes falling back on the bright mural. That looks even brighter when clashing with the dark, storm-filled skies above. Each flash of lightning only illuminates the hauntingly empty space beside Luisa.
“Mirabel…”
Julieta’s whisper barely cuts through the sounds of harsh weather and the confusedly concerned crowd of townspeople and the hurried beating of their hearts and the coursing emotions through their veins.
“Mirabel…” Julieta repeats. “She… mi bebé… she isn’t… where is she?” The healer’s faced is flushed and her hair is disbelieved and her voice cracked.
Félix tries to push down his shock, wanting to calm Pepa. Agustín just gapes. Julieta is storming off back to Casita before anyone can stop her.
She all but kicks the doors open. She doesn’t care about Casita right now.
Dolores jumps at the sound and scurries off, the young woman knows too much. Isabela just looks beguiled from the balcony. Luisa, Camilo and Antonio are nowhere to be seen, probably out of the building. Good, Julieta doesn’t want them here right now.
On her search to find who she’s looking for, she runs into Mirabel.
“Mirabel, go upstairs.” She says, and the words come out harsher than she intends.
“Is everything okay?” She asks gently, leaving her sewing at the dining table as she approaches her mother. Eyes looking hurt, but she’s mostly concerned as she goes for Julieta’s hand. “Are you okay? Can I help—”
“Mirabel Teresa Rojas Madrigal, I will not tell you again!”
Mirabel retracts her hand, as if burnt.
Out of all the children, Mirabel has always been the best behaved and has never had to deal with any punishment from either of her parents. As much as this sudden anger is throwing her off balance, Julieta is struggling too.
She doesn’t mean it. She’s angry with herself. But she doesn’t want Mirabel to be the one comforting her over this, so she needs to go. This anger and hate is so foreign, she doesn’t know what to do with it.
Tears pierce Mirabel’s eyes, but she obediently gathers her things and leaves to the nursery.
Julieta finally found who she was looking for in the living room, looking sentimental and happy as she flicked through one of the family photo albums (Julieta and Agustín’s wedding to find inspiration for Isabela’s).
“Julieta,” the older woman closed the book over, placing it on the chair as she stood to greet her daughter. “What do you need, mija?”
“Why didn’t you say anything about the mural?”
Alma raises an eyebrow. “I don’t understand. Dolores asked if Señor Cortez could repaint it and I gave her my permission. Is that not what’s happened?”
Julieta took a deep breath. “Why isn’t Mirabel in it?”
The atmosphere shifted instantly. Not only because Agustín and Félix had entered the room, but Alma’s lip curled, nostrils flared and her eyes turned cold. She seemingly ignored the pure anger coming from her daughter, the confusion and shock of the in-laws.
“I have no idea—”
“Don’t lie to me!”
The woman sighed. “I do not know what took place, Julieta. But Señor Cortez is a good and honest man. I have good reason to believe that he asked her whether or not she wanted to be painted, and she said no.” She gestured to the photographs on the surrounding walls. “She has always been fussy with photographs, you should not be surprised that paintings are the same.”
The answer stands to reason.
So why isn’t she satisfied?
“Isabela was there when she was the mural for the first time,” Alma continues, slightly relaxed. “She told me that she was surprised.”
Julieta’s hands are shaking. Agustín takes one, and rubs her knuckles with his fingers.
“Why would she be if she knew she wasn’t going to be in it?” Félix asks, significantly calmer than everyone else in the room. But he looks like he’s going to be sick.
The older woman hardens, infuriated by the question. “To make us appear cruel for attention. Fortunately, she stopped the deceitful act before it could carry on, and I shall have words with her to make sure she won’t dare to humiliate us in public again.”
“My daughter is not deceitful.” Agustín glares.
“That may be, but she is still a jinx.”
Agustín shuts up at that.
“All I had wanted was a perfect grandson from you two; just as I had, two girls and a boy. And look at what has happened since,” Abuela laments, quietly. “I tell you, I regret the day she was born. She has brought nothing but misfortune to our family.”
With a heavy sigh, Alma leaves the room in silence.
She needs to protect the family, their home, the community and the miracle. Her youngest granddaughter, whether intentional or not, has made that role far from easy. She can’t let something happen to them. Not again.
With the soft drops of rain and snow, she heads up the stairs to quietly consult the miracle and Pedro. For what is she to do?
~~~~~~
The next morning, everyone awakes to find the mural has changed.
It happened during the night, nobody saw or heard anything. Señor Cortez always works in the day and very slowly with that large curtain hiding his work. This was something done and someone gone in the space of hours after midnight.
The family themselves haven’t been by yet. Otherwise Isabela would have remade her flowers, which usually cut off half of Luisa’s arm from view. And the paint glints as if still wet, yet to be dried by Pepa’s sunlight. Abuela would have made a morning announcement about it, if she knew.
The town can’t pinpoint the difference. They think it was just another touch up. Has Antonio grown a bit? Is Isabela wearing a ring? Maybe the words of Los Madrigal weren’t always pink?
The girl beside Luisa looked more detailed than any other of the Madrigals. Each tiny little piece of embroidery had been added, looking neater and finer than it did in reality. It’s a copy of the others, sure, but not exactly the same. The curls were messy, forming a triangle around the head. The additional height was funny. The arms looked stout and awkward. The colours looked off. The placement on the wall was off too - it had been centre before, now it wasn’t.
The townspeople discuss.
“Who the hell is that?”
“I’ve never seen her before.”
“Why does some random girl get to be in it?”
“Do you think they’ll add all of us townspeople in the mural?”
“She’s not even from Encanto.”
It’s only the minority that say and think like that. Most people don’t notice the mural has changed at all.
Mirabel pretends it doesn’t hurt.
What do you think Vaggie's character arc will be in season 2?
Hi!
It is hard to tell because we know very little of season 2. What's sure is that Vaggie is gonna continue her integration with Charlie. When it comes to the Princess of Hell, their relationship will probably foil Lucifer and Lilith's. In particular, I think Vaggie will be important to help Charlie deal with her mother's soon to be broken pedestal.
After all, Vaggie and Lilith are respectively an angel hidden in Hell and a demon hidden in Heaven. They both end where they are because of Adam, as he abandons Vaggie and makes a pact with Lilith. In season 1, we see Vaggie hide this truth from Charlie. I think in season 2, we'll see Lilith doing the same with both Lucifer and Charlie.
In short, Vaggie is set-up as Lilith's foil and Charlie is gonna deal with the inner turmoil her mother's appearance will generate with Vaggie's help.
Finally, both Lilith and Vaggie seem to be linked to Lute:
Tumblr media
Lute is, just like Lilith and Vaggie in different ways, a victim of Adam's abuse. However, differently from Lilith and Vaggie, she doesn't refuse it, but embraces Adam's ideology.
When it comes specifically to Vaggie, Lute is her jungian shadow:
Tumblr media
It means she embodies all the traits Vaggie dislikes about herself. Lute is a ruthless exorcist, who fully believes that hate and violence equal strength. This link is symbolically set up in Welcome to Heaven, which uses much shadow symbolism when it comes to Vaggie's arc:
Vaggie sees her ominous shadow covering the cannibal child and she chooses to let him go. She realizes who she is deep down and makes a first choice to change.
Lute's shadow covers Vaggie one second before her ruthless assault. This conveys that Lute herself is Vaggie's shadow and the part of herself she hides and represses.
This hidden part comes out during the questioning, when Vaggie is exposed and her shadow shows her angel self:
Tumblr media
So, Lute is metaphorically a part of Vaggie our character must face, accept and integrate. This is why Vaggie chooses not to kill Lute in the finale. If she did, then she would have just killed a part of herself and would have given in to Adam's ideology of violence and revenge. Obviously, Lute is set up to be an important part of the story and of Vaggie's arc in particular. She is the character, who is gonna challenge Vaggie the most out of the cast (at least so far). Surely, their conflict will keep on going.
That said, season 2 will focus a lot on the main cast's conflict with the Vees. When it comes to this, Velvette may be a secondary antagonist to Vaggie:
Tumblr media
I explain why in here, but the short version is that it has to do with both Velvette and Vaggie being set up as potential mentees to Carmilla.
Both Velvette and Vaggie are young girls, who ask Carmilla to fight and want her to share the secret of how to kill angels.
However, Velvette shows no respect, wants to go to war for selfish reasons and doesn't learn anything from Carmilla:
Tumblr media
Vaggie instead builds a bond of mutual respect with the Overlord, wants to fight to protect her loved ones and is taught how to fight through dancing:
Tumblr media
It might just be a foiling with no further consequences, but the potential is there.
In any case, Carmilla will probably keep her role of mentor to Vaggie, as the young angel has just begun her development and will need an older figure to guide her.
In short, I don't know exactly what will happen to Vaggie, but there are certain characters set up as key ones in her arc. They are:
Charlie as a romantic partner
Lilith as a foil (potentially Lucifer too)
Lute has the jungian shadow
Carmilla as a mentor
Velvette as a potential secondary antagonist
We'll see how it goes. Thank you for the ask!
Today, we're talking about the 2 people in the Madrigals who held the family together...
Julieta and Mirabel!
First of all, we all know how AMAZING Mirabel sewing is, and if we focus on Julieta tho, we can actually see that she also has sewing on her clothes
And Mirabel's eye color is more like Julieta's (Agustín's are darker)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike Agustín, Mirabel's eyebrows are a bit thicker, like Julieta's
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Mirabel's got Julieta's body shape
Last but not least, Julieta and Mirabel are the only ones who wear a bag/has pockets to carry stuff around
