Does everyone know that the different pride flags have names or is this just a leftover Cdi brain thing

#the rainbow flag is technically different than the Philadelphia pride flag which is different from the progress pride flag #this is in response to someone saying well there are 8 stripes if you include the brown and black ones which is becoming more common #and they are right but in my pedantic mind that’s not the flag that was being asked about

i love the gilbert baker sex and magic stripes they literally mean everything to me

#the gilbert baker flag is probably the flag i identify the most with i think...#cause like yeah sure technically i fall under the emily gwen lesbian and the nonbinary ones #but theyve never really felt personal to me #the philadelphia and progress flags are also nice but the fact that theyre used so much in corporate pride really turns me off from them #and so that makes it so that the only mainstream kind of flag i have left is the aromantic flag.#and then my only others i really like are the smaller ones such as my slimegender flag and the objectum flag...#but gilbert baker is really nice... cause like. a lot of my queer identity centers around art and sex and so that flag really feels perfect

Second time in about 48 hours that I have gone into the search mines to bring out a specific pride flag for my blog only to be met with either long or thoughtless posts about how x flag is the most inferior or y flag is the most superior while shitting on other flag designs. Like, I am all for making as many flags as you want — the more the merrier no monopolies here. I would just like for people to keep in mind:

Which communities (including geographical and cultural!!!) specific flags come from and why they were created.

You do not need to be represented by every single stripe for the flag to be applicable to you.

If a flag is featuring a specific identity there's probably a reason for that, I don't care if it's ugly.

Please cite sources and inspiration! Flags represent communities and usually come from community involvement and influence.

Seriously unless a flag was made purposefully to demean or alienate others it's probably fine. You don't have to use it or prefer it and you can be annoyed with it but it doesn't mean it's the end of the world.
