hindsight | park chanyeol x reader
teaser, be sure to stay tuned for the first chapter!
story: growing up in a lavish lifestyle in the asian elite society living in america's fine city of new york with division among the elites, which are comprised of the upper elites, limited to the asian nobility and the lower elites, comprised of a-list celebrities and businessmen. calista, the daughter of a well-known aristocratic family, stirred up a forbidden affection with the man who happens to be her brother's best friend, a son of a businessman.
post disclaimer: a drenched chanyeol in the rain ༼;´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ༽ (i will cry), pregnant reader
Looking back on something so far that one can no longer have regrets had made me go over to that day, that something so special would have changed Desiree’s life forever, the night that can still alter the course of my life and hers. That one night that turns into a regret that, as the years pass, can blossom into a longing of the heart
That evening—it was heavily pouring and the fog against my window made my pointer lean in close to the window surface for me to draw a few figures and shapes, the sounds of the rain muting every noise being made outside my room—what had to draw me back to my attention was when Baekhyun burst into my chambers.
"Cali." He softly spoke and eyed me from head to toe.
I remained silent and looked over at my ankles bound to chains. Seeing all of these, I sobbed and continued to cry as I felt Baekhyun’s arm wrap me around the shoulder and shush me, despite the comfort that he was continually providing from the heat of his palms when Charity entered the room.
"Young Miss, Young Master, forgive me for interrupting, but there seems to be a commotion outside."
Baekhyun studied the look on Charity’s face and asked further, "What’s going on?"
"Sir Park is looking for the Young Miss, and your parents are confronting him, Charity said.
Baekhyun glanced back at me and asked, "Did he cause all of this?"
I can’t be the one to break up the friendship between him and Baekhyun, but I will still choose to remain silent. "Cali! Answer me!" He yelled, his voice resonating in the room, which made Charity and I flinch.
"You for sure know what I am going to do if I don’t know that bastard, Cali." Baekhyun sternly spoke, which caused me to panic and hold his wrist.
I looked over at Charity with pleading eyes, which left me no option but to tell the truth.
"I will, but if I tell you, will you promise me something?"
Baekhyun noticed the restrained ankles. "Byun Calista, what have you done?"
My parents were standing by the front door, and outside our mansion’s door was him, drenched from the heavy pouring of the rain. "Have you noticed, poor boy, that our daughter does not want anything to do with you?" My dad exclaimed as he observed him right out there, although they had not acknowledged my presence yet until my mother looked back and saw me standing behind them and had been observing all along.
"Calista, get back to your room this instant!" She yelled at me.
"No, I will not. I will speak to him myself."
My parents looked at me with those condescending looks, and Baekhyun assured me, "I will be on the lookout." They shook their heads, not sure if my brother was trustworthy enough.
"Whatever it is you have to say, Calista, we should know about this." Mother spoke as she gently grasped my elbow and my father looked at me with those stern eyes.
I sighed and nodded as I walked past my parents, still adjusting to my weak and frail body that secured the weeks-old baby with the lack of nutrition from being house-arrested for nearly a month. My heart clenched at the sight of him on his knees, perhaps with red eyes from crying and wet hair and clothes from the pouring rain. Despite the pity that I have for him, all I wanted to ask was
"What are you doing here?"
He replied with a weak smile, "I had to see you and the baby."
I scoffed and sarcastically smiled, "What makes you so sure that this baby is yours?"
This time, it was time to end things once and for all. Or so I thought.
well, finally a work that has been sitting in my word for months, but i have soooo many pcy x reader prompts that i can post, but most of them are series as well, after posting few chapters i might open the request, but i'm still looking over few guidelines on what writing style i usually follow, so that there is a common ground and write your requests to a satisfactory level. let me know what you all think of this teaser, and how this story might escalate. yours, tongyang<3

The loud drizzling sounds of rain hitting your apartment window can’t help but stir you up from your deep slumber. What the hell, you thought, rubbing your eyes a little to wash away your sleepiness. The clock beside your bedside table reads 3.40am, the timing indicates that it’s too early for anyone to be awake at the moment. The sky kept rumbling, with thunders flashing every minute and you groaned at the sight of the storm rolling in front of you. Being woken up from a storm was one thing but being awake without your husband, was another thing. You knew you wouldn’t be able to sleep again so you grabbed your phone to check if Chanyeol had landed in Seoul from his recent work trip from Paris.
Notifications 02.30am KST Yeol: > Babe? > I just landed with the worst weather ever! > I can't wait to see you > I missed you so much :(( Read 03.43am KST
Being married for 2 years to one of the most famous idol in Korea, you were accustomed to his busy schedule. Flying out here and there to attend concerts, award shows, photoshoots and prestigious events was part of the job. With you working as a fashion editor, his daily agenda was not out of the ordinary for you. The difference only being the fact that he works under the limelight, but you don’t—not that you mind at all. Nevertheless, both of you made it work. It was too easy to understand how it feels to work under a tight schedule without any time to breathe. You with your never-ending deadlines and meetings, and him with his idol life.
However, dating him for 6 years and being married to him for three, being away from him never gets easier.
You zoned out for a while before a loud thud distracted your attention, followed by your bedroom door clicking open. Your husband was finally home, his tall frame resting against the door with a huge grin on his face. Even with the minimal lighting of your bedroom, you could make up the bags under his sparkling eyes and the sight made you frown.
“Hii honey,” his voice soft as ever, “I missed you so much..”
You sat up beaming at him while reaching out, welcoming him with open arms. He took a step closer to the bed, engulfing your sleepy figure. You replied with a small ‘hello’ as you melted into his hug. You really can’t help but wonder how he’d smell so nice after a long-haul flight, but nevertheless, you love inhaling his scent that brings you nothing but comfort.
“How long have you been awake? The storm must’ve woken you up.” His voice was laced with worry.
You held his cheeks with your hands and he practically melt under your touch,
“Not too long ago.”
“Please quickly shower and join me in bed, huh? Pretty please…” you pouted at his tired state.
“Anything for you, baby. Give me a while and I’ll join you as soon as possible!”
He didn’t close the door as he showered, not that you’d mind, at this point you were too sleepy to even think of peeking. As the water ran down on his back, he unconsciously kept you awake by chatting with you. He really couldn’t help that he missed his wife so much.
“Babe, do you have plans tomorrow?”
“No? Not that I could think of…I might drop by the studio and the office tomorrow morning but other than that, I don’t think I’ll be booked the whole day. Are you going somewhere tomorrow?”
“The office? Isn’t tomorrow like..Saturday? Is Saerim giving you a hard time? What about the interns? They’re not helping you enough? Are you working too hard again?” He rambled on with concern with a raised voice as the running water muffled his voice.
“I- Uh..” you stammered, “Yeol, I t-told you work is fine” you quipped. The sound of the water subsided as a tall figure emerged from the bathroom. Chanyeol dried his hair, ruffling the soft brown locks with a towel as he frowned at your response. He knew you were having a hard time at work and had asked you to quit a thousand times by now. Even without the math, anyone would know that his pay would be enough for the both of you to live comfortably.
You looked at your golden-retriever husband in the eye, “So where are you going tomorrow?”
A thing about Chanyeol is that he’d waive things out so easily, as easy as shifting the conversation to another topic and he won’t go back to pester the elephant in the room.
At your question he blinks a few times, “Would you mind if I take a day out tomorrow with the boys? Baek said he needed some pointers for his upcoming solo album and Junmyeon-Hyung had things to discuss for the group.” He scratched the back of his head.
“But that is…if it’s okay with you?” he nervously asked.
“That’s okay, babe…” you half yawned, sleep lulled you once again as you tried snuggling inside the comforter,
“I really don’t mind”, the drowsiness took you as the soft satin sheets came in contact with your skin. He smiled at the sight as he returned the towel to its place. Chanyeol didn’t take long to join you in bed, cuddling you in his arms.
After his hectic schedules and weeks without holding you, being beside you was the perfect medicine to charge his tired form. He sighed, relieving all his weariness before the slumber took him out.
He knew, this was home.
You, were home.
—
Morning came faster than you’d like. The rain from last night hadn’t stopped, raindrops trickling on your high-floor apartment as the sky was still dark as ever. Beside you, a tired giant, possessively hugging you amidst his sleep. You giggled at this grown-up man’s clingy behaviour.  Chanyeol will always be the cutest, ever.
You blamed your body clock for waking up so early on a Saturday, especially on this dreading Saturday.
With a little struggle, you free yourself from Chanyeol’s hold and tiptoed to the kitchen. It was just 6.00am but you quickly prepared breakfast for the both of you and salad, for Chanyeol just in case he wants a light lunch.
As you sipped your coffee, last night’s conversation went through your head. He knew you had troubles at work, he had plans and you said you were okay, you didn’t mind.
You internally sighed because mind you did.
You were far from okay.
Because even though you’d hate to admit it, you’d love to have him for yourself. In fact, you have missed him so much these past few weeks that it physically hurts.
But no.
You had work.
Your useless-piece-of-a-shit-partner Yoon Saerim, will probably taunt you if you don’t come up with a better concept for this month’s pictorial. So even though you miss being around your ball of sunshine more than you’d like to admit, fate was just not in your favour this Saturday.
You could always quit, is what Yeol usually says after your long rant about your horrible boss and the disgusting amount of workload you had to handle. Sure you have subordinates and interns working under you, but working in fashion for so long, you came to the conclusion that nothing is never ever enough when it comes to the industry.
Thinking back, Chanyeol always loved being under the spotlight as an idol ever since his debut days and making music was as precious as that. After both of you settled down and eventually got married, you were quick to admit that Chanyeol sacrificed a lot for you, even if you didn’t ask him to. He paid the bills, every bill. He took care of the parents, dinner dates with your parents and his every other week were a staple and he’d never miss sending health supplements once in a while. You never asked him to do so but married Chanyeol just stepped up and took on the role as a caring husband so naturally.
Even with his burning passion in music, he went the extra mile, producing countless songs by the count of months. At times he goes on an overdrive, he’d lock himself up in the studio and he would forget about everything else. Situations like this scares the shit out of you. You remembered the first time he went berserk, it took you and his members two days to figure out where he was. He’d gone AWOL and you had to call the police to track down his phone, just to find out that he’d been coping himself in the studio for 48 hours without sleep or food, only water. You and Sehun found him sitting down in front of the recording booth with a guitar in hand, music sheets sprawled on the floor. His eyes were already bloodshot red, it was clear that he was sleep-deprived, very tired and out of focus. Sehun sighed, ready to scold Yeol for his stupid behaviour before your husband quipped,
“Please don’t take me away, not yet…”
his eyes all over the place with brows furrowed, his forehead creasing.
“I swear if you give me more time, I’ll finish this tomorrow and I’ll go but please leave and don’t come here until tomorrow, yeah? I need to finish this song because they’ll pay a huge amount for this one… Give me more time, please?” He is disassociated as ever, you were aware that he didn’t notice you due to his state.
“Hyung…” the younger sighed again.
“S-Sehun-ah, I have Y/N now.. You might not know how it feels now but I- I want to give the world to her. We’re idols but our prime time is way past us, when the momentum is gone, we might too.” He dropped his head to the door of the recording booth as he sighed,
He mindlessly draws patterns on the floor, “I need to save up for Y/N, for our future.. and it won’t happen if I don’t work like this. So-“
In a blink you crouched down, embracing him with tears already wetting your face. Words couldn’t form but the pressure, the knot that he bear was starting to unravel. He got your message,
You’re enough.
Moments like these, his breakdowns, were one of the things that kept you grounded. If you’re being honest, your job also keeps you on your feet. Working as an co-chief editor in fashion was always your dream and to be frank, you enjoyed the job more than you let on. But the past year has been nothing but hell, thanks to the newly appointed co-chief editor Yoon Saerim. You habitually ponder how she got the position as she wasn’t really suitable for the job, she didn’t really have the knack for fashion. But moreover, you just didn’t like the fact that she ogled Chanyeol and Sehun when they came by for a photoshoot.
You quickly snapped out of your deep thoughts when you gulped your last drop of coffee, thinking of Yoon Saerim never fails to make you turn sour.
Without wasting more time, you prepared yourself to head to your studio. For disclaimer, the studio was Chanyeol’s, not the office’s. Not long after you started the job years ago, both of you decided that it would be nice to rent out an old apartment in the city for the both of you to work. The studio has a built-in recording booth, production space for Chanyeol and a creative working-space for you. However, with time passing, you ended up using the space more than your husband.
Before you left the house, you gave him a forehead kiss and stuck a post-it-note on his phone,
‘Good Morning My Happy Virus ♡  thank you for always working so hard,  sometimes you worry me, love :( have a great time with the boys today! am out for work - it’s deadline week ◡̈   i love you 3000 —  much, much love, Y/N ‘
You arrived at the empty studio with your shoulders slumped, looking at the stacked paper, pictorials and mood boards around your disoriented workspace. The interns must’ve sent these yesterday, fucking hell, here we go again.
Not long after, you succumbed to the job you love and hate at the same time. To be honest, as one of the high-ranked chief editor in your company, it wasn’t your share to do these tasks anymore, those days were over you. But reviewing each and every item, every trend that goes into the magazine is a job you love no matter how meticulous it actually is. Besides, the information you extract from all this has proven to help your career so far, making you one of the sought-out fashion editors in Seoul. However the fact doesn’t relieve you from the burden and pressure you get from your useless co-chief editor.
“She’s bossy and pushy but useless— and you’re too compliant, Babe,” Chanyeol would always joke and you’d usually tackle him back with a pillow, leaving both of you cackling in the process.
Speaking of Chanyeol, the man in question just stirred up from bed, barely opening his eyes, adjusting to the gloomy weather in front of his open-windowed bedroom. He instantly rubbed his sides, sleep evidently washed away when he realised his beloved Y/N weren’t there. He called your name out a few times to make sure that maybe, you were outside the room, just to know that his voice had filled the void of your apartment.
As expected, he immediately sat up and grabbed his phone to call you. Before even unlocking his cell, he found your oh-so-lovely note that you stuck on this morning. Chanyeol sighed, he knew you were having a hard time but you never fail to warm his heart with your sweet note, he particularly loved the use of his favourite iron-man quote.
He stared at the note lovingly for a while before heading to the bathroom and freshened up for the day. When he entered the kitchen to see a packed lunch box and another one with breakfast inside, he sulked further. Your puppy-like husband misses you and you doing this, made him sappier. He carefully unpacked the meals you prepared, gratefully munching your cooking. He was supposed to meet his members at 10 and so, he drove quickly as he was running late. When he parked his car in front of the company’s building, a text came from Baekhyun.
Notifications 10.08am KST Baek: > Yeol? > the meeting’s canceled > Junmyeon-hyung said something came up > and my mom called, she wanted my help :O > Really sorry for the sudden intrusion! But have a good rest day with Y/N ^^  > Send her my love too!! Read 10.15am KST
< BYUN BAEKHYUN YOU LITTLE SHIT < THANKS FOR THE ‘HEADS UP’ < Picture sent < LOOK WHERE I AM YOU LITTLE SHIT!!! Sent 10.16am KST
Baek:  > Oh.. > The message didn’t come through 😅 I texted you way before,, must be the reception?  > But you can always have a good time with y/n!!  > I’m so sorry 🥺 Read 10.17am KST
Chanyeol couldn’t be sulkier. His ears literally drooped down as he huffed in annoyance. He didn’t reply back to Baekhyun as he slid the phone back in his pockets. He drove home in silence, even the thought of going back to bed to aid his tiredness didn’t make him feel better. He entered the foyer of the empty apartment and he shuffled inside lazily. You’d probably melt if you see him right now, his shoulder slumped slightly with a goo-goo look on his face. Especially now, with his buffier-form, compared to his pre-debut lanky state is something you’d administer as a cute change as a result of his exercising habits over the years. But it doesn’t matter because you’re not there and alas he came home to a cold, dark, empty apartment with his love nowhere to be seen.
The sky dark, rain still pouring down, much like his mood. The thing about Chanyeol is the fact that he’s a clingy extrovert when it comes to people he loves. You love that about him. He didn’t care about the hectic schedule, it’s the ‘being away from you’ that made everything hard to surpass. That’s why after every schedule abroad, Chanyeol would love going home when he knows his love is waiting for him. There’s nothing better than coming home to a warm apartment with you snuggled on the couch. However, now, he’s the only one on the couch, alone.
He pondered for more than an hour, zoning out, before deciding to stand up and head to the door once again. The silence is deafening, he misses you too much and he had to do something about it.
—
In your studio, coming in your nearly fifth hour of productivity, you’re starting to break down. You were now on the verge of crying while doing your work, it’s the creativity block, you mentally cursed. You’ve been dealing with it lately but having to work in fashion, it’s inevitable and you never really told anyone about it, especially not Chanyeol. You felt that his occupation demanded more of him than yours did to you, you wouldn’t want to burden him with your problems.
“Fuck.”
“Fucking hell!”
“This is so not happening right now…” tears welled as the screen of your precious laptop turned pitch black. You scoffed at the situation with the waterworks falling down your eyes. You were over this.
You slumped near the corners of the room, hugging your knees as you stared at your now dead device, silently crying as your head whirls for other, worse negative possibilities of happening. Numb, is probably the best way to describe your current state after crying your heart out for 30 minutes straight. You end up curling yourself into a ball, hanging your head low in the corners of the room as your mind goes blank.
As you hid yourself in the darkest corners of your office, you failed to notice the jiggling sound of the key, the clacking locks and the noise of the door opening.
“Babeeeee?” the sound traveled from the hallway. Lo and behold, a sulked Chanyeol is here. His mood is still on the low but the idea of meeting you gets him excited like a puppy.
You couldn’t hear him though,  your head still in a blocked-state and the room you’re in was the furthest from the hallway.
Chanyeol entered the studio, footsteps tapping against the hardwood flooring. It puzzled him why he didn’t receive an answer back, but knowing your shoes were on the foyer, he knew you were somewhere inside. He set foot to the break room, your coat was on the couch but where were you?
He continued peeking into his recording studio, the nearest space to the break room. The lights were out, signalling him that you’re probably not there. The bathroom and the other rooms were also empty, your office was the only place left. He slowly knocked, hoping to get an answer. To his surprise, nothing. He then gently pushed the door open, just enough for his head to peek inside. Before he could call your name, he heard sniffles from the farthest corner, he could make up your hunched, clearly crying figure and your favourite beige socks too. He exhaled as his worries washed away. Even though his heart ached more than ever, finding you with a meltdown was a relief as he initially thought you passed out or worse.
He didn’t enter the room. He shuffled himself out as quietly as possible to grab his guitar in his recording room. This should do, he thought.
He re-entered your office, walked closer and sat on the floor near you. The cramped space barely fits his long legs.
“Hey,” he greeted you with a hushed voice.
Noticing his voice, you instinctively lift up your head to see your husband, sitting in front of you. In your shocked-state, you forcefully brushed off your tears in embarrassment, your skin will probably turn red later.
“Hey.. No, no, no..” he reached out, wiping your tears, caressing your disheveled hair.
“Gently, yeah, yeah.. You’ll hurt yourself” he continued as he patted the areas under your eyes with his long sleeves.
After you calmed down, you didn’t have the courage to even say anything to the man. Deep down, you were embarrassed to be found in a silly breakdown, even if it was your husband. Besides, you didn’t know what to say to him anyways. While you were overthinking and avoiding eye contact with him, he pulled the guitar behind him and started to play a familiar song,
“It's a beautiful life 난 너의 곁에 있을게 (I'll stay by your side) It's a beautiful life 너의 뒤에 서 있을게 (I'll stand right behind you) Beautiful love”
Slowly but surely, your heart warmed up to the sound of his voice and you couldn’t help but stare at your husband. He stopped singing when your eyes met and he gave you a comforting smile.
“C’mon, let’s get you up princess,” as he helped you stand up, circling his arms around your waist. You haven’t articulated a sound but he didn’t mind, he just let you lean into his sides as he guided you to the couch in the break room. He sat you down before abruptly standing and rummaging a brown paper bag on the coffee table,
“I got your favourite cake and hot chocolate actually,” he grinned, facing your puffy face. “I thought you were having a hard time, well- I know you are having a hard time… But you never tell me you know, Babe?” He rambled as he unboxed a variety of sliced cakes and pastries on the table.
“I-I get the fact that you wouldn’t want to burden me, but I’m kinda your husband and best friend too.. I wish you wouldn’t keep these things from me” he picked up the fork and scooped a piece of cheesecake to feed you,
Before you had the chance to reply,
“I mean—open up a lil’ baby— I don’t mind you working and all, it’s your passion and I will support you either way, but you don’t get to shield your meltdowns from me… Who’s gonna hold you when you cry, huh?” he kept on chattering while feeding you, giving you no room to talk.
“I’ve said a thousand times that we’re super comfortable right now, yet I know it’s not about the money, I’m super cool with you working.. It’s about the workload a-and the pressure you get from your subs and colleagues!!” He raised his arms as a sign of annoyance.
You gulped down the big chunk of cheesecake and shut him up with a peck. The action took him by surprise but it didn’t fail to shut him up.
“Okay, Chanyeol.” you softly replied, followed by another peck on his lips
“I get what you mean” you smiled at your husband.
You then began on telling the troubles you had at work, silently thanking the universe that he came in the right moment and that he was your saving grace. He listened intently, even going to the measures of contacting his technician friends to help fix your laptop as soon as possible. He made jokes too along the way to lighten your mood and gave you warm touches here and there to comfort you further.
You were his home, his ground zero.
He was yours too.
—
Hours passed and now you were back working, Chanyeol in the other room, busying himself in the recording studio.
“Yeol?” you called him.
“Hmm? What’s up princess?”
“Uh- I just remembered, didn’t you had like- plans? You were supposed to go with Baek and the members today right?”
Footsteps were apparent as he walked closer to the opened door of your office, his head peeped through the door.
“Junmyeon-Hyung canceled, Baek too.. I was quite grumpy because I reached the office when Baekhyun texted me” He walked in further.
“Then I came home but the house wasn’t warm enough even though I cranked the heater up!” He sulked, and sulked further.
“I was alone, I don’t want to be…I also don't want you to be alone too Y/N.
I only wanted to be around you, I really tried staying in!! But I couldn’t be alone in the house without you when you’re my home.” he pouted.
You want to die then and there, you miss him as much and he was sad, it makes you sad too, but he was being sulky-cute… Can you turn into a putty of love?
“Come here you big baby!” you excitedly threw yourself in his arms. He buried his soft locks on the crook of your neck as he whispered ‘I miss you' s and you couldn’t help but let out a hearty laugh.
“I miss you too, Yeol..
I miss you so, so much.” He hugged you tighter as he giggled too.
This was it, you thought. This was love at its finest and you couldn’t be happier that you’ve found it. For all the moments, good or bad, both of you never failed to become each other's home.

TOXIC CHANYEOL FF PLEASE
thanks for the req!🩷 this is not the end of toxic chanyeol on my page!!! i made it a lil smutty, hope you like it!
back 2 u • pcy [req]
pairing: toxic!chanyeol x f reader, established relationship
synopsis: chanyeol is a fuckboy and reader can’t seem to stay away
genre: angst, slight smut 18+ minors dni
warnings: swearing, manipulation, mentions of cheating, mentions of alcohol, mentions of smut, reader doesn’t like sehun, reader and chanyeol don’t belong together, reader is mentioned to be a bit toxic herself! mentions of baekhyun, sehun, and kyungsoo.
all it took was one video taken from a fucked up angle, exposing everything that you never, ever wanted to see in your life, to you. it was so hard to miss, his dumb face smiling at the dumb girl sitting on his lap. you’re rarely ever grateful for sehun, that bastard, but god were you grateful for his stupidity and lack of awareness right now. because of him, you’re speeding down the freeway, on your way to a club to get you boyfriend in check, all thanks to his idiot friend posting a video of him at a club with the location attached. it was so easy, it almost felt like bait.
you practically whip your car into a group of people waiting to cross the street, but you couldn’t care less. you hop out of the car, severely underdressed for the club in a pair of black jeans, a black crop top, and black boots. but again, you couldn’t care less. the only thing on your mind was knocking some sense into your boyfriend and his best friend, in more ways than one.
storming up to the front of the line, you ignore the protests from the people behind you as you cut. you’ve never paid to get into a club, but there’s a first time for everything because you slap two 20s into the bouncers hand, and then you’re walking through a too-packed club.
you push your way through bodies, unsure of where you’re really going but knowing that you’ll find him regardless. it was so like sehun to expose chanyeol like that, whether he meant to or not. it’s not even the first time, either. last time he did it, it exposed that chanyeol lied about where he was going (strip club), and the time before that he exposed that chanyeol was hanging around other women when he specifically told you that there wasn’t going to be women around. of course, you knew he was lying each time, but to find out from that idiot sehun made everything worse.
your head swivels around as you push through the bodies, searching for an overly tall head, or an overly loud laugh to catch your attention, but the darkness and the strobe lights make it more difficult for you to see anybody or anything.
you practically make it to the end of the club, still not finding chanyeol. you stop for a moment and lean against the wall, fishing your phone out of your back pocket and dialing chanyeols number. your eyes scan the club as you listen to the phone ring; the chances of him answering are 50/50, but he knows exactly how you get when he goes out and doesn’t answer your calls or texts, so it would definitely be in his best interest to answer his phone.
like clockwork, though, he doesn’t. you scoff and go to call him again, but the spotting of baekhyun from across the way has your finger hovering in mid air and your feet power walking themselves over to him. “baekhyun!” you shout loudly, making a few people turn around, including the man himself.
when he sees you, he smiles, but his face quickly morphs into.. something else; a bit of panic. “y/n! what are you doing here?” he asks, pulling you in for a hug that you don’t reciprocate. out of all of chanyeols friends, though, you hated baekhyun and kyungsoo the least, but you still didn’t particularly like them.
“where’s chanyeol?” you ask, ignoring his question. baekhyun brings his hand up to his hair, and you know he’s about to lie. “don’t even fucking lie for him either, baekhyun. where is he?” his eyes dart around the club and you squint up at him, frustrated with the entire situation and just tired of it all. dealing with chanyeol is like an awful game of tennis that refuses to end. you’re both tied, but sometimes the score is 30-15, and nobody ever wins. it’s like cat and mouse, but a more demented version.
“uhh… if i tell you, do you promise to not cause a scene?” he asks.
“no. where is he?” you ask, grabbing onto his arm. he looks down at your hand that grips his forearm tightly, shocked at the strength of you. you see the surrender in his eyes and almost want to smiles, but you don’t.
baekhyun sighs. “fine. he’s back there, in the lounge. don’t get yourself arrested, alright? it’s summer,” he says, but you’re already taking off in the direction he pointed in. you beeline through people, shoving bodies harder than necessary but you’re on a mission.
you see chanyeol before you even get to the lounges, and the sight makes all of the air disappear from your lungs. a woman with dark hair sits on his lap, one of his legs in between hers. she’s turned around to face him, her face close to his ear, and his arms are wrapped around her middle, his left hand resting on her thigh. chanyeol is a lot of things, but honest isn’t one of them. you know you’ve definitely given him too many chances, but when things are good with him, they’re good; so good it’s like you’re floating on air.
pushing your hurt feelings away, you storm into the lounge area with a fire beneath your feet. you spot a disregarded drink on a table and grab it, walking up to chanyeol and the girl and saying, “what the fuck are you doing?” the drink in your hand cocked back and ready to be thrown.
chanyeol looks startled at your presence, his eyes wide. “y/n?”
“who the fuck are you?” you ask the girl, staring down at her. she looks up at you, and then back at chanyeol.
“is this your girlfriend?” she asks, and the words make your skin boil. he didn’t even have the decency to consider you before he sat down with her.
his hesitation to respond to the girl makes her scoff and get off of him. she gives you a pitying look that makes you feel embarrassed and like crying, and then she’s off. “don’t throw that,” chanyeol says, pointing at the glass in your hand.
“why shouldn’t i, asshole?” you manage to keep the tears out of your eyes by sheer willpower, but you feel like falling to your knees.
“because,” chanyeol says, standing up and ripping the glass out of your hands. he sets it down behind him and reaches for you, and you slap his hands away.
“don’t fucking touch me. i’m sick of you!” you say, stepping away from him.
“y/n, it’s not what it looked like,” he says plainly, like you only walked in on the two of them standing side by side and not her fully sitting on his lap and his hand inching up her skirt. “i don’t even know her.” he says, like it makes it any better.
“fuck you,” you say, turning to leave, drained from the whole situation. you start walking, practically running with how fast you’re moving. chanyeol reaches for you, capturing your wrist in his large hand and pulls you back towards him. “get off of me!” you yell at him, prying his hand off of you. he opens his mouth to say something, but you take off again.
he shouts your name the entire time you’re trying to leave, partly because he knows it’ll irritate you, and because he knows it’ll get your attention. “stop, chanyeol! just stop!” you shout once you get outside in the cold air. you wrap your arms around your midriff and huff out air.
“y/n, just let me explain,” he says, sliding out of his jacket and handing it to you. you look at it and shake your head, making him scoff. “don’t be dumb, y/n, it’s freezing. take it.” he says, and you snatch it out if his hands and slide it over your body.
“there’s nothing to explain! i know what i fucking saw—you can thank your best friend for that by the way,” you say, glaring up at him. chanyeol runs his hand through his hair and mumbles fucking sehun, and you rolls your eyes. “quit associating with dumb ass people, and maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation.” but knowing him, and yourself, you’d find a way to be here.
he only licks his lips and looks at you, and you avert your gaze. if you look into those big, brown eyes that can make you melt with just one look, you’re screwed. “can you just let me explain myself?” he asks. the nerve.
you scoff. “if you’re going to justify you cheating on me, just save it,” you say, shaking your head. you glance around outside and notice that you’ve gained a small audience of the club goers. this is probably what baekhyun was talking about.
“woah, i didn’t cheat on you, let’s get that clear,” he says, a frown on his face. you roll your eyes for the umpteenth time, and put your hands in the pocket of his jacket.
“mhm. well, i’m over this, and you,” you say, turning around to leave. you hear his footsteps behind you, and try not to start running.
when you get to your car, you open the door but his hand stops you. “chanyeol, move. i’m serious,” you say, looking up at him. you bite the inside of your cheek as you try not to get lost in the look he’s giving you.
he moves, because he knows he’s got you still. all it takes is one look (and good pipe) to get you right back underneath him, where he likes you most.
you drive off, leaving chanyeol standing there, feeling proud of himself because if he didn’t have a reason to pull up on you unannounced tomorrow, you have his jacket.
you wake up bleary eyed, and a little disoriented. your back hurts from sleeping on your couch, and your legs feel stiff from sleeping in your jeans. an empty wineglass and half-empty bottle sit on the coffee table before you, and you move to clean up with a yawn.
after picking up the living room, you change out of last nights clothes and into a pair of shorts and a big tshirt. when you go to throw you clothes in the hamper, you see a pair of chanyeols boxers, and bite your bottom lip. you’re sure you’re done with him, but you don’t know if that was made clear last night. you consider calling him to tell him that it’s over, but that he’ll only see that as an invitation for him to come over and ‘change your mind’.
sighing, you toss your dirty clothes on top and pick up around your room, forcing your brain to not give a shit that a lot of the items in here are his. you don’t live together, luckily, but of course you both have things at each others houses. you just wish he didn’t have so much.
a knock on your front door makes you pause. you aren’t expecting anybody, but you have a gut feeling that you already know who it is. so you take your time answering, making your bed and tossing more dirty laundry into the basket. you fold your throw blanket, and even consider vacuuming, until insistent knocks start pounding against your door.
you rolls your eyes and slip into your slippers, and walk down the hall to your front door. you don’t bother checking, because only one person could be so annoying at 10 in the morning.
but you probably should have checked before, because when you pull the door open and see chanyeol standing there in a pair of gray sweats, a matching hoodie, jordans, and a backwarss cap, holding a bouquet of pink roses, you feel like sliding to the floor. he leans against the door frame in only a way that tall men can make look lazy in sexy way, and that makes you want to slam the door in his face. “good morning,” he says, his voice raspy like this is the first time he’s talked since waking up.
you only stare at him, an irritated look on his face, but your heartbeat is saying something different. “what do you want?”
he extends the flowers to you, which you take with a forced act of “i don’t give a fuck”-ness. “i want my jacket back. and to apologize,” he says, putting his hands in his sweat pockets.
“you could start with the apology, and then get all of your shit,” you say to him. a flash of disappointment crosses his face, but he quickly composes himself.
“y/n, i’m sorry about last night, and that i did what i did with that girl. you know i don’t ever want to hurt you, but i did, and i’m sorry that i caused you pain. you don’t have to forgive me right now, but i hope that you consider,” he says. you just stare at him blankly, wanting him out of your presence.
“get your shit,” is all you say before walking away to put the flowers in some water. and maybe you swing your hips a little bit because you know that he’s watching, but who can really say?
he goes down the hall to your room while you cut the ends of the flowers and find a vase to put them in. you then set them in the center of your dining room table. you glance down the hall and see chanyeol digging through the drawer that you let him have, and walk down to your room.
you stand in the doorway and watch him, to make sure that he gets everything out. he glances back at you when he feels your gaze on him. “are you just gonna stand there?” he asks.
“until you leave? yes.”
he sighs and straightens up, turning to walk over to you. you tense up as he gets closer, and focus your eyes towards the center of his chest. “y/n”, he says, trying to get you to look at him. you resist. “y/n, baby, i’m sorry. i really am,” he says, bending down to meet your eyes, and you make the mistake of looking at him.
you let out a pathetic sound that’s the cross between a sigh and a whimper, and he smirks at you, his hands coming around your waist. “chanyeol, stop,” you whine, barely putting any effort in getting out of his hold. “you’re such an ass. you keep doing this shit, and i’m tired of it. you say the same thing every single time!”
“i know, baby. and i’m sorry,” he says, burying his face in your neck. there goes that pet name that makes you want to slap him, and die in his arms.
chanyeol kisses your neck and you can’t help but bring your hand to take place in the hair at the nape of his neck. one of his hands moves from your waist to your ass, grabbing the flesh and pulling you closer to him. he gently bites your neck to test the waters, and you yank his hat, pulling him away from your skin to look at him. “stop that,” you say and he puts his hands up in surrender.
you both look at each other, and you make the mistake of flicking your eyes down to his lips. he smirks at you like the devil himself and says, “you can kiss me. i know you want to.”
and so you do, because fuck it. you always knew, in the back of your mind, that you’d both end up here. you always do, whether it’s you apologizing (rare) or him, this is always what happens the next day.
the kiss is messy and full of desire, his hands gripping your ass and yours pulling off his hat and throwing it across your room. you yank at his hair, and he lifts you up with ease and carries you over to your bed, throwing you down. he doesn’t waste any time pushing your shirt up and kissing your stomach before pulling your shorts down, settling in between your legs, the place where you love him the most.
and maybe this is why you always come back, because you know he’s about to give it to you good and eat you like a starved man.

“No, I really—”
“Oh come on, just try it!”
“No, I don’t think...”
Placing the guitar in your hesitant hands, you sighed in defeat at the look of pleading Chanyeol sent you, his pout changing in an instant to a smile of victory. He gingerly sat you down, then began directing your hands to the proper placements, a look of concentration as he attempted to fix the stiff joints in your fingers.
The more time you spent with this man, the less you were finding yourself able to defend yourself against any wishes he had. Whether it was going out shopping, to the movies, restaurants, random drives along the town, arcades, or in this case; impromptu guitar lessons.
Apparently you’d been receiving guitar lessons from Chanyeol for a few months now, and he was convinced that you two had practiced enough that maybe muscle memory would kick in and it could maybe trigger a long lost memory of some sort, or be able to play a short tune.
Which, yeah, it might’ve worked if it was you who had been receiving the lessons. But you weren’t.
Little did he know you weren’t the Y/n he knew and you were one hundred percent sure that this was going to go very badly considering you knew absolutely nothing about the guitar, just looking at the instrument filled you with tremendous anxiety and impending doom, not wanting to accidentally damage it with your inherent clumsiness.
Not that going to his house and meeting his parents for the first time didn’t twist your stomach into knots, either.
Chanyeol had mentioned when he’d first informed you of the guitar lessons that his parents really wanted to see you again, and that they wouldn’t stop bugging him about it, if you wanted to meet them, to which you agreed without much mulling over.
You didn’t see why not, even though you felt the nervousness build in the pit of your stomach at the mere thought of it. If you and him were going to spending a lot more time together, it was only right to meet his parents... ‘again’.
It was a bit intimidating walking up the porch steps to his impressive looking house, barely having set your feet inside and started to look around the room in wonderment for a tiny fraction of a second before you were suddenly being engulfed in a tight embrace.
“Y/n! We missed you so much, how are you doing now, dear? Are you feeling okay, you wanna sit down?” A comforting warmth enveloped you and felt yourself instantly and subconsciously relaxing entirely. “Are you sure you’re okay, honey? Remember, try to take it easy—”
She was cut off and pulled away from the heartening (she was highkey suffocating you) hug she’d cocooned you into by who had to be Chanyeol’s dad. “You’re gonna scare her away, relax a little.” He laughed charmingly to his wife, a mild expression of embarrassment graced her features as she gave you some space.
“Oh, I’m fine, please don’t worry. I appreciate the heartfelt welcome, I was a little nervous so it made me feel better,” you awkwardly got out, suddenly very shy with all the attention on you.
“Oh, you’re still so cute—”
Chanyeol quickly moved you to stand in front of him by the stairs, cutting his mother off in her move to gather you into what you guessed would be another smothering hug. “Alright, we’re gonna go upstairs now, you guys can talk to her another day, let’s not overwhelm her. I’ll leave the door wide open, don’t worry,” his voice was notably more hushed for the last thing he got out at the subtle look his mom sent his way.
Relief flooded you, you weren’t completely sure you could handle being alone in an enclosed space with him just yet. You sent an agreeing nod at his words, placing a polite smile on your face as you sneaked a glance at his face, daring you to think he was a little... embarrassed?
He was pushing you lightly up the stairs in front of you the next possible second, always making sure his eyes were averted away from you and to maintain a respectable distance your bodies. A soft smile came to your lips as you noticed this fact, his parents murmuring to each other with hidden smiles look how cute they are, glad that their son seemed to be happier lately and knowing just who was the reason for that.
The two of you rounded the stairs where he just as quickly took his hands off your shoulders, looking at you with an apologetic smile. “Sorry if my mom scared you, it’s just—you two were really close and she just misses you, I think. And, the—” Chanyeol paused to clear his throat, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked elsewhere, “the keeping the door open is one of my mom’s rules.”
He gestured to the closest room to you with pink cheeks. “Um, this is my room. I cleaned before you came over, I promise—and I’ll keep this open the whole time, okay?” He pushed the door completely open, but he made no further move, as if waiting for your permission.
“Thanks.” You shyly smiled up at him as you passed, silently examining the room you had just stepped into. It was very... him. You didn’t know why, but it felt like him. To the cool color of his bedding, the amount of soccer items adorning the room, medals adorning the walls. It made you smile at the strangely soothing scene in front of you. “It looks cozy.”
The words had slipped right out of your mouth on their own, not realizing until it was already too late. Silence surrounded the two of you and you graciously accepted his invitation to sit on the bed, turning around to grab something. Your heart raced in your chest as you tried to calm yourself down and willed yourself to act normal.
Back to the present, Chanyeol was still knelt in front of you as he finished the finger placements. Once he was satisfied, he hummed as a grin popped on his face, stepping away to stand in front of you.
“Alright, now try and see if you remember how to play an A Chord.” He reached for something behind him on his nightstand by his bed and turned around again, placing a plain dark blue pick in your hand.
“How would I even—” your attempt to dismiss this whole thing falters as you catch the hopeful glint in his eyes and took note of his feet that he had been shuffling back and forth in what seemed a nervous habit. He was peeking down down at you from under his hair as he chewed on the nail of his thumb. “Okay, let’s see...”
You were becoming a total softie for Chanyeol and it wasn’t something you knew how to stop.
You had no idea what chord he was talking about, and you had no idea where you were supposed to place your fingers on the coarse strings, but you shrugged and slowly placed them in a way that felt most natural to you and ran the pick softly along the strings, the resulting sound not at all an appealing one. Somehow you applied too much force and the pick ran down the strings very roughly, both of you cringing away at the sound, looking at him apologetically for possibly damaging his instrument.
“No, huh?”
“No,” he sighed, his shoulders slumping forward from their tense lock that he had them in. His face which was somewhat a mix between hopeful and expectant also fell, but he masked it quickly. A carefree smile adorned his lips as he shrugged off the weird mood that had rose between the two of you, coming to plop himself down right next to you. “It’s okay, you can learn everything again. No worries.”
“Wow, lucky me.” You joked, nudging him with your shoulder in a way to lighten up the mood, relieved when his grin turned more genuine, his eyes softening as the two of you stared at each other, your once calm heart began to pick up pace the longer you looked at him.
It was when you looked away and saw a picture of you and Chanyeol, framed, on his nightstand. Well, the other you. The original you.
You startled when you felt his fingers on yours, glancing down to see him rearranging your fingers into what you assumed was the correct placement for the A Chord, his lips forming words but you couldn’t hear him, your mind becoming the tiniest bit fuzzy as you were enveloped more in his warm embrace and the starting to become familiar scent of his cologne.
“You probably don’t remember, but the first time you came to my house, you...”
It was at times like these where you felt yourself feeling sorry for the man who was determined to keep you by his side. Feeling sorry that he was left to remember all these treasured memories alone.
You would study the wide and nostalgic smile that would appear on his face when he told you story after story of your many adventures and experiences the two of you embarked together. That smile would always vanish whenever he returned to the present and see you staring at him with a guilty expression that had in some way found its way to your face.
“Don’t feel sorry.” He would always respond to your remorseful apologies, gracing you with an ever kind and patient smile. But him smiling at you like that only made your mood worsen even more, knowing the only reason he was so understanding and sanguine was because he fully believed you were the woman he fell in love with, the woman he so desperately wanted back.
But you weren’t.
It was obvious from the countless tales you heard and watched him fawn over.
The Y/n in this universe was much more outgoing, brave and endearing than you ever considered yourself to be, people worried about her to an extent you really didn’t understand.
No matter how much you wished you were the person he fell in love with, the person that held his heart—that wish only growing stronger each day you spent with this charming and lovable human being—you could never be her.
You feared you wouldn’t be able to live up to his expectations.
Strange to think you’d ever be jealous of another version of yourself.
Chanyeol was a good teacher, he made you feel at ease as you fumbled and struggled to make a pretty sound out of the wooded instrument, reassuring you whenever you would retreat into yourself and hyping you up when you actually did something right.
Eventually you relaxed and was able to joke around with him somewhat, though the feel of his fingers covering yours was something you couldn’t get used to no matter how many times he helped you (he totally didn’t need to help you that much he just wanted to hold your hand).
Your phones vibration pulled you out of your thoughts and you reluctantly detached your fingers from his to find a message from Junmyeon, not realizing just how long you’d been here for. "Oh, I gotta go. I'm having dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Kim's house." Junmyeon had told you that his parents were worried about you, and how they too kept pestering him about inviting you over dinner, and he had finally caved and asked you yesterday to which you agreed.
You loved his parents almost as much you loved your own in your last universe, and you can only hope that they were the same as you remembered them, and they hadn’t changed as well.
“Oh, okay.” He hopped up from your side and you were instantly cold when you felt like you were burning up a few seconds ago. He placed the guitar back to its place in the corner where he kept it as you, too, stood up. “Um, so I’ll text you later?” Chanyeol scratched the back of his head and he stared at you with a hopeful expression, the tone of his voice giving away of how unsure he really felt despite the brave face he’d been putting on for you.
It was your fault he was suffering, you thought to yourself glumly. You told him you’d try and get to know him again, the word again giving an illusion that maybe he’d get back the relationship with the girl he loved and thought that you were again.
Filled with the false hope that things would go back to normal as he smiled at you so sweetly and comforted you. Here you were, liking him more and more each day as you were subjected to the past memories of his real love, which wasn’t you.
"Y/n? Are you okay?" Chanyeol eyed you with worry etched onto his face as you had just suddenly zoned out. It was discomforting but it was also a regular occurrence. He so desperately wanted to find out what was in that head of yours, but didn’t want to overwhelm you any more than you already were. If only you trusted him as you did before.
"Huh?" Blinking, you regained your senses to find him staring at you in worry. You backtracked to what you two were saying before you got all lost in your thoughts and smiled at him as convincingly as you could, "yeah, we should figure out what to do later, let's do anything you want to do." As retribution, to ease this smothering feeling inside you.
Tumblr media
You rang the doorbell, and it was as if they were just waiting by the door because it didn't even feel like two seconds later when the door swung open and Junmyeon was ushering you inside by the arm, a look of joy on his face. All you got out was a quick greeting to his parents and sister—who very excitedly ran up to you as soon as you entered the house and enveloped you into a big hug—who you acted a bit awkwardly around, because after all, this was your first time ever meeting her.
You were meeting a lot of people today. She was absolutely gorgeous, but of course that came as no surprise. Also you were still getting used to the fact that Junmyeon had a sister in this universe, fully expecting to see Minseok bound down the stairs and give you one of those big brotherly hugs you were missing at the moment.
“Let me talk to her first. Hey Y/n, glad you could make it, how are you?” Junmyeon spewed out the question after dragging you to a secluded area of his living room, not giving you the chance to even answer because after he took a quick breath, he was immediately continuing his rant, “there’s something that I’ve been curious about, and I was hoping you could answer it for me. I would’ve texted you but I knew you were coming over for dinner tonight, so I figured I’d just wait."
It took everything in you to not burst out laughing at his unexpected manic behavior. “Okay, what are you curious about?”
Have you found any substantial new evidence that would somehow be able to explain the possibility of parallel or alternate universe? Have you found out why you were sent here?
These were the types of questions you fully expected to be hit with from Junmyeon, ever the rational and inquisitive guy—
“In your universe, was I just as attractive and sophisticated as I am in this one? No, right? I’m the better Junmyeon, right?” He took extra precaution to make sure no one could possibly hear your conversation, lowering his voice down to a whisper and his eyes were wide with curiosity as they tracked your expression for a reaction.
You blinked at him for awhile before you choked out a laugh. Somehow with his insane question he managed to strangely rid the worries you had running through your head. You looked up at him and nodded, patting his shoulder as his eyes lit up in anticipation to your response. “You know, that’s a very Junmyeon number one thing to say.”
"Wait, is that how you've been referring to me in your head? Junmyeon number two?" It was funny how offended he seemed, even pointing at himself in disbelief, brows furrowed and mouth parted open.
"I mean, it is the number that comes after one, and I knew the other one first, so naturally..." You pursed your lips and shrugged nonchalantly, prolonging the teasing.
“I refuse to be known as a number two.” His face scrunched up in disgust as he said those words, shaking his head at you. Just then, you two were told that dinner was ready and you two started making your way to the table, but you couldn't help but tease him some more.
“You’re more annoying, though, number two."
Dinner was a bit bizarre for you to say the least. In the spot you clearly remembered Minseok occupying, now sat Jooyeon. You smiled fondly as you watched Mr and Mrs. Kim piling meat and more vegetables on her plate, speaking to her in the most adoring way.
It was a tender scene to gaze upon.
You’d always remembered Mrs. Kim telling you just how much she wished she had a daughter, and if you wanted to be the daughter she never had, that she’d treat you well. You didn’t doubt that for a second and it was nice to see they loved each other so much.
Jooyeon had taken hold of your hands after you helped bring the dishes to the kitchen and after you were refused in your offer to help clean and took you upstairs to her room. You figured you two were close from that action alone.
The standard interrogation about your health commenced and after you managed to ease her worries enough she switched the conversation over to Chanyeol with a gentle stare.
"So, how are you and Chanyeol doing? I can't imagine it's easy now that you lost your memories of him."
You nodded slowly, sat on her bed with her and you kept your eyes on your sock clad feet as you swung your legs softly, pondering on how to answer her question. “It’s still a little weird. I just feel bad, he’s trying so hard to get back the love he had with her...” you hadn’t noticed you had referred to the other Y/n in third person, as a separate person, out loud instead of in your head like you usually did.
“Unni,” she whined, eyes narrowed as she scolded you quietly. “Why are you talking like you’re another person?” You couldn’t help but look away from her intense gaze, only to whip around to face her again when she suddenly took your hand in hers, expression earnest and sincere. “Is that how you’ve been feeling lately?”
You sighed, “Chanyeol... is still in love with the me of the past....” Literally the Y/n of the past. Before you arrived here.
Jooyeon giggled, breaking your solemn state to gape at her in surprise, wondering what was so funny with your words. “Unni, the you of the past is you. The only thing that’s really changed about you is you losing six months worth of memories. But you gaining them back or not doesn’t affect who you are. Nor is it going to affect his love for you.”
His love for you... wasn’t meant for you.
“Chanyeol and me aren’t close at all,” Jooyeon started, glancing at you with big eyes that became the shape of crescent moons when she smiled after your prolonged state of silence, “but I do remember before you guys started officially dating, he approached me one day and asked what would be the best way to officially ask you to be his girlfriend. He wanted to impress you so bad, something you just couldn’t say no to."
“Really?”
She nodded enthusiastically, laughing a bit. “You would not believe how he wanted to ask you to be his girlfriend. He had this great idea—of course you know what I mean by great. Anyway, he obviously wanted something to do with soccer...” she started to tell you the specifics of the story but you got sucked into your own inner turmoil instead, a normalcy for you.
You were sure it was a nice story and all, probably very sentimental and affectionate just like him, but you really weren’t in the mood for a story right now. You weren’t any closer in figuring out why you were sent here, and was just racked in guilt the more time you spent with Chanyeol trying to find it out.
Jooyeon gave you a warm hug before you left, as did the rest of the Kim family. It was a nice break from your worrying and headed home feeling a little better than usual.
But it still didn’t stop you from further distancing yourself from Chanyeol.
You avoided answering his calls and texts, not knowing what to say to him at his sweet and excited offer of a picnic, managing to dwindle your guys’ interactions down to nothing more than a stranger you saw everyday.
Once again it was Saturday night, alone at home after telling your parents to take the night to themselves for their health and stress levels.
Just you and the night, you and the house to yourself, preparing to re-binge The Good Place for your stress levels. Or maybe you’d rewatch Shrek for the thousandth time. Who cares, you had no plans and nowhere to be besides your couch.
Which is why the knocking on the front door had scared you as much as it did. Your survival instincts about turned on as you sneakily looked out the peephole to slump against the door in relief, which turned into guilt.
Chanyeol.
You opened the door quietly, the two of you staring at each other for a few moments before you sidestepped to let him in, wordlessly asking him to talk. “You’re gonna let the bugs in, with you just standing there. You gonna come in or not?”
Hoping that your awkward teasing could ease this tension to being relieved about the small smile that had erupted on his lips at your words, following your lead.
He stepped towards you and you backed away instinctively and he entered your living room swiftly and you could only shut the door behind you as you and he eyed each other. “Why are you avoiding me again? Did I do something, I thought it was going well, I...”
It was his frustrated expression giving way to that sadness you’d also learned to associate with him, the ambivalence in his voice tearing you up inside.
“I’m not the person you fell in love with—” you ended spewing the true reason to ease his worries that it had anything to do with him. Just his happiness. “—and... and every time I look at you I just feel so guilty, and I’m really sorry.” You didn’t dare look at him and instead focused on the cuticles of your nails, your heart thundering in your chest as you heard footsteps coming closer.
Warm fingers wrapped around your wrists to gain your attention gently, the words being spoken as equally soft and tender. “What are you talking about? Of course you are.”
“No, I’m not.” You frowned as you said that, not knowing how to get him to understand that you were but a replica of the true Y/n he fell in love with, is in love with.
Chanyeol’s concerned face came into view before you were pulled into his embrace suddenly, his arms wrapped securely around you to hold you tight against him. “Sure, it’s taking a little longer for you to let go and trust me, and you’re a little more shy than I remember,” his words were spoken with a small laugh, an easy grin on his lips as he glanced down at you. Averting your eyes as you listened to him list the differences, he sighed softly before continuing, his arms tightening around you, “but you’re still the same unbelievably charming and adorable person. And besides, they’re just new sides of you I got to fall in love with. It was like falling in love with you all over again.”
Your breath caught in your throat and you pulled back enough to stare into his eyes in surprise, feeling so... happy.
He... was falling in love with you?
You?
He stared back at you in full earnestness, his sure expression telling you a thousand words in the silence between the two of you.
You couldn’t tell which one of you started closing the distance between you two, maybe both of you, but all you were able to concentrate on was his whisper as he leaned in closer, “I only hope you can say the same.”
“I can.” The words left your mouth unthinkingly in response to his own words, your heart thump thump thumping in your chest as you bravely pressed a small kiss to his lips, leaning up on your tiptoes using his shoulders for support as Chanyeol gazed at you like you had hung the stars in the night sky.
Reaching up and tenderly pushing fallen strands of hair behind your ears, Chanyeol leaned down the rest of the way and enveloped your lips in another kiss, a proper kiss, cradling your face and softly caressing your jaw in a manner that matched the way his lips met with yours, careful yet you could feel the yearning and longing. Incredibly soft and a bit hesitant at first, the kiss slowly grew more passionate though still maintaining that slow burn that did exactly that.
His hands slowly made their way down your shoulders and sides to settle at your hips, squeezing your flesh gingerly as he pulled you closer to him. You felt him smile into the kiss as your fingers slowly ran along his broad shoulders to feel the soft locks in between your fingertips, your lips mirroring his in an instant, subconsciously.
Suddenly wrapping his arms around your middle, he picked you up off the floor so your feet were dangling in the air, he pulled away from your lips as he swung you around like the two of you were the main characters in a cliche romcom—which you’d never admit out loud you enjoyed just a little bit.
“Will you please go on a picnic with me tomorrow?” He still had that tight grip on you, not seeming the least bit tired from holding you up as you clung to him for dear life, pouting at you from a few inches away.
Your lips still tingling with the lingering sensation of his on yours, you felt your heart about melt in your chest. Remembering the position you were in, being pressed up against him had your face flushing and you tapped his shoulders to wordlessly signal you wanted to be let down which he did without question and immediately, you taking a couple steps back as you sobered up a little, your past actions coming back to you.
“You sure you still wanna... be with me after how I’ve been treating you all this time?” You mumbled the words to the ground, shame enveloping your entire being at your behavior and you couldn’t find it in yourself to meet his eyes.
“Do you need me to declare my love for you again to get through that thick head of yours? Or maybe another kiss?” His tone turned playful his last four words he spoke, your eyes flicking from your dining room table to him in response, that cheeky smirk you were used to seeing adorned on his lips. The confidence in his stare making you almost choke on your spit as you hurried to look away, cheeks and neck warming up comically fast.
“I love you, and I think I heard you tell me you love me, too?” His gaze switched to a much softer and genuine one, an encouraging smile on his lips that replaced the smirk as he waited for you to agree with his words, a pleased look on his face, shrugging casually as he reached over to envelop your hands in his. “Then everything else doesn’t matter, not even your lost memories—oh, as long as you promise to not run away anymore and talk what you’re feeling out with me before pushing me away. Deal?”
Feeling completely at ease for the first time in a long time, you smiled and nodded at his words. “I can do that.”
“Good.” Chanyeol all but collapsed onto your couch, never letting go of your hands as he did so, situating himself as close as he could possibly sit next to you without one of you ending up on the lap of the other person, the mere idea of sitting on his lap had your cheeks on fire. He pinched your cheeks, his tone back to teasing along with a wide smile as he asked, “What are you thinking about that’s got your face so red?”
Glaring at him, you removed his hands from your face but kept the contact as you faced the television that was still going on, clearing your throat. “I’m not thinking about anything, it’s just hot in here. It’s basically summer and you’re sitting so close to me, scoot over there.”
“Okay, okay, I won’t tease you anymore, just don’t make me move. It’s so nice to finally be able to be with you like this again.” He clung to you like a koala would cling to a tree, which was funny because it seemed like a tree clinging to a koala with how different you two were in sizes. Though maybe you should compare him to a kitty or puppy with how he was rubbing his face along the fabric covering your shoulder.
Chanyeol squeezed your hand tighter in his before relaxing and laying his head on your shoulder as he realized what show was playing. “Oh, I like this show. Especially how Eleanor and Chidi kept falling in love with each other even after getting their memories erased.” His head shot up from your shoulder to shoot you a sweet grin. “Kind of like you. Which I can’t say I blame you or that you really stood a chance, I am pretty charming.”
Rolling your eyes, you playfully began detangling yourself from his hold, to which he clung to you tighter, not knowing just how much his words resonated with you but didn’t let it show. “Yeah, yeah, I just can’t escape you, huh?” His smile turned a bit puzzled at your little inside joke but before he could ask you about it, you smiled down at him and pressed a quick kiss to his lips before patting your shoulder for him to lean on again, heart racing in your chest at your brave actions and at his words as he relaxed into your hold again.
“If it was me who lost their memory, I think I’d still end up falling in love with you, too. Even if I was somehow transported to another world, and I had the extreme luck to find you wherever I was, I don’t think I could help but fall for you over and over again.”

Soccer was more difficult than you’d previously believed it to be. You thought it was just kicking a ball around a field in knee high socks, not ever having paid attention to the intricate and tedious footwork that needed to happen immediately during a match.
You honestly didn’t think it would be this hard to make a fucking goal, an as wide as the ocean goalpost, and no one was even blocking you, at least not anymore.
“Park Chanyeol! This is cheating! You’re not even on her team, you can’t just help her because she’s your girlfriend!” You snickered to yourself as your boyfriend’s lanky form happily and all too eagerly blocked the annoyed younger man as you struggled to keep the ball rolling in front of you while running like a maniac towards the goal, having tripped over your own feet more times than you’d like to admit.
Ignoring Sehun’s irritated voice as it rang in the air all the while he attempted to escape Chanyeol’s hold to steal the ball from, Jongin was so unconcerned, cackling beside him as he aided in keeping him further from you. Quickly approaching the goal, you kicked the ball into the net a few moments later, as uncoordinated as possible. It was only then that Sehun was released, his lethal glare aimed at all three of you, which you were shielded from as Chanyeol rushed over to excitedly embrace you, arms wide.
The excitement about having scored a goal came back to you and you jumped into his waiting embrace, Jongin’s cheering and Sehun’s it doesn’t count! faded into the background as you melted into his arms, not even minding the fact that the two of you were sweaty from running around in this hot weather.
“Thank you for helping me score a goal, but I feel bad you guys lost, even if it was just for practice.” You propped your chin on his chest as you looked up at him, your lips forming a subconscious pout. He leaned down and pressed a quick kiss to your mouth, smiling down at you so softly that you knew he wasn’t upset about losing at all, this extremely competitive guy.
“It was Sehun’s idea in the first place, having a mock two vs. two match. He makes us practice everyday, and now you know that even the weekends aren’t safe from him hounding us. I know it’s not the most fun for you to just watch us run around the park, so I’m glad I could assist you in having some fun. Don’t worry too much.” Chanyeol tried easing your worries as you snuck another glance at a grumpy and sulky Sehun who had his arms crossed over his chest as Jongin seemed to gloat about something you couldn’t hear.
He really was upset.
Seeing where your gaze led, Chanyeol turned his head to glance over at him as well, Sehun scoffing and turning around as he did so. “Eh, he’ll get over it.” Chanyeol turned back to you with a cheeky grin on his face. “I doubt he’s upset at losing as much as he is that he lost to Jongin. Those two arranged a bet before we started playing, Sehun thinking it was an easy match to win since you, uh... play as well as a toddler does.”
Choosing to disregard the way he’d laughed as he dissed your soccer skills because they were true, you really did not play well, you tsked mockingly at him. “Wow, betraying one of your best friends for me. I didn’t know you liked me that much.”
You were sure the two of you were about to have an incredibly sappy moment, but before it could happen it was interrupted by a shout in your guys’ direction.
“Alright, she’s not allowed at practices anymore, our star player keeps getting distracted at practices.”
He rolled his eyes at Sehun’s words, stepping away but keeping an arm around your waist and kissing your temple, silently urging you not to take his words to heart. “Chill out. You’re just mad you lost.”
“I lost? We lost, you traitor.” At that, he decided he was done talking and began walking back to the center of the field, and you knew he wasn’t too mad or upset when he waved you guys over to him. “Well, what are you guys doing? The game is a week away and we need all the practice we need! Let’s go!”
Jongin had warmed back up to you pretty quickly after your relationship with Chanyeol improved, treating you warmly and it was like meeting a long lost friend, feeling weirdly comfortable around him and getting along surprisingly well when you hadn’t expected it to be so easy.
Sehun on the other hand... well, it wasn’t as if his distrust came from nowhere. He still regarded you with suspicion, something you completely understood. Responding in five words or less to anything you asked or said to him, fighting a smile at any joke you would crack, he was unrelenting.
He was locked onto your every action and word, every expression that crossed your face, especially whenever you interacted with Chanyeol around him. His intense stare daring you to break his bestfriend’s heart again on his watch. A nonverbal warning: I’m watching you.
It stung, oddly enough, but you knew you deserved it, so you didn’t push it.
As if sensing you were getting lost in your thoughts, Chanyeol squeezed your hand in his and led you to the blanket he’d laid down on the ground for you earlier. Sitting you down and placing some food, drink and your book you’d brought in front of you, he kissed your cheek sweetly and ran back to Sehun and Jongin before he got yelled at again.
Jongin shook his head at the lovesick puppy heading towards him while Sehun just eyed the two of you sternly before initiating some drills. Chanyeol made sure to get your attention from your book every now and then with excited calls of your name, shooting you wide smiles with a big wave and you would smile and wave back just as happily.
Things between you and Chanyeol were going amazing. You had no idea that you’d ever like someone this much, and you still thought you didn’t really deserve him. But he always made sure to let you know how happy he was with you, and who were you to argue when he looked at you with that smiling face?
Maybe it was because you were ridiculously happy with how things were going, but you were even branching out and willingly initiating conversations with people around you, something you’ve never done in your life past age ten.
Even your tense relationship with Sehun seemed to improve over time. You were a regular at soccer practices now, lazing around reading and yelling out encouragements from the bench. The big match was set just a few days from now, and you were handing out waters to the heavily sweaty and exhausted players and Sehun took the water you offered him with a small thanks and a smile.
Chanyeol’s answering grin matched yours as he saw how excited you were, playfully tackling Sehun to the ground, the latter fighting his laughter as he fought the other giant off him.
“Listen, I just wanted to say I’m sorry for being so hard on you, especially when you lost your memories and all.” Sehun shocked you as he sprung you with this heartfelt apology out of nowhere. “I just saw my bestfriend hurt and took it out on you. But you make him happy and I’m glad he has you. You’re okay in my book.” His expression was warm as he playfully punched you on the arm, the two of you sharing a laugh as he suddenly straightened and warned in a more serious tone, “I’m still watching you, though, and if you hurt him, you’ll be answering to me. Got it?”
You saluted him and shouted a, “Yes, sir!”
Yeah, you were happy where you were right now.

“I don’t think we’re supposed to be here after hours!” You whisper-yelled after Chanyeol’s jogging figure, trying your best to stay quiet and follow his fast pace, paranoid as you looked behind you every other second.
He led you through the fence with an easy smile, bringing you closer as he adjusted his gym bag over his other shoulder. “Come on, look, the lights are on and everything. It’s like they wanted us to sneak in. I just want to practice my aim before the big game tomorrow. It’ll help calm my nerves. Please? Hmm? Please?”
“Ugh, no fair. You’re too cute for your own good.” You grumbled your answer after he stretched out the last please, looking down at you with those wide eyes and that pout you could never say no to.
Grinning and laughing in victory, he set his bag down on the empty bench and brought his hands up to run through your hair. “That’s my line.” You shooed him away after his cheesy line, smiling to yourself as he ran to the field with the soccer ball he’d brought from home.
Graduation was coming up right around the corner and here you were, still stuck in this alternate/parallel world, whatever you wanted to call it. You still had no idea how or why you were here, but you were done complaining or contemplating.
You honestly had no idea if you would ever go back to the world you came from, but decided not to stress it too much. Things were great—more than, beyond great—here and it just felt right—
“Y/n! Look out!”
Heart rate elevating at the sudden warning, you shook yourself out of your daze and realized with impending doom that the soccer ball was very quickly and very accurately making its way right towards you.
Oh shit.
Tumblr media
Experiencing major deja vu, gazing at the same beige walls and sat in the same stiff twin bed in the nurses room, your left temple throbbing and the now familiar feeling of an ice pack being placed on your head made you freeze.
Oh no.
You knew by now who was your company by the smell of his laundry detergent and cologne. You kept your eyesight fixed in front of you, flinching slightly as Chanyeol adjusted the ice on your bruise, afraid of the reaction he would make once you made eye contact with him.
What had changed now? What kind of life were you living now and what role did he play in your life this time? And would he play a major character no matter what life you lived?
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” his words were breathy and rushed as you flinched again as he pressed down a bit harder than he meant to, his anxious expression coming into view as you finally gathered the courage to turn your head in his direction, not liking how distressed he was.
What did you say, how did you react? Did you snap at him or tell him that everything was alright and that you were okay?
“Please say something.” Chanyeol practically begged from beside you, only growing more and more uneasy as you continued in your silent staring contest.
“Can you hand me my phone?” You asked slowly and awkwardly, watching him nod quickly and quickly hop up from his seat to where you saw your bag lay on the floor by the door, heard some rummaging and before you knew it, your phone was being carefully placed in your hand. “Thank you.” You mumbled quietly, heart racing at the possibility of either seeing his face on your screen but were instead met with familiar album cover you remembered setting.
Were you back?
It was then you noticed several messages waiting for you, your passwords being seen as correct now and you saw it was from Junmyeon, a sense of relief you so wanted to believe blossoming in your chest.
Did you give the notebook to him?
I’d rather be tutoring tbh my grandma has fed me at least 20 of those disgusting peppermints already. save. me.
also i barely managed to escaped minseok’s wrath by a few seconds lol
“We have Ms. Lee’s class together, right?” You waited with bated breath after asking that question, watching Chanyeol’s brows furrow in confusion at your odd question, studying the way you casually responded to Junmyeon’s texts, sending back yes, but come over when you can, we need to talk
“Um, yeah. Yeah, we do.” Chanyeol nodded as he answered you to which you sighed in relief at his response. So far so good.
You were back. You think.
Swinging your legs around the stiff bed, you slowly stood to your feet, eyeing his helpful hands on your arm with a bit of uncertainty. You continued to eyed him strangely as he gently offered you your bag and held the door open for you.
“Are you okay?”
“Are you dizzy?”
Jongin and Sehun surrounded you as you two exited the nurses office and you shrank back a bit from their sudden proximity and intense inspections, this scene also very familiar... yet not at all.
“Guys, give her some space.” Chanyeol emerged in the middle of you, pushing them back the tiniest bit to give you space to breathe.
“Oh, sorry. We haven’t introduced ourselves yet, huh? I’m Sehun and this is Jongin.” Their observant expressions changed in an instant to cheeky grins as they waved to you in a casual manner, like you weren’t currently sporting yet again another head injury. “We’ve seen you around school a lot, but we’ve never actually talked.”
You blinked at his words, your eyes transitioning from one to the other, remembering just how close you three got in the other world... or wherever you were. But you just nodded a little in silent greeting and turned to walk away. Like last time, you really needed to go home and make sure you were really home now.
“H-Hey, are you sure you don’t need to go to the doctors? I can help you—”
Shaking your head, you flinched slightly and told Chanyeol quickly when you saw him start to make his way over to you. “I’m fine, really. I can go by myself.” Not that you really felt you needed to go, the last time you went to the hospital for this, they just did a bunch of expensive tests that came back normal and gave you an ice pack and some painkillers in the end.
But you had a feeling you’d be going whether you wanted to or not.
“Are you sure? I just...” he offered again, a guilty expression clear as day on his handsome face, you having the strong urge to grab his hand in an effort to calm him down, but knowing you couldn’t or shouldn’t. “I just feel really bad.”
“You should.” Sehun piped up from behind him, to which you sent an amused glance to.
“As long as it wasn’t on purpose, it’s okay.”
“I swear it wasn’t.”
You nodded at his words, your previously belief of him kicking the ball at you on purpose long gone now as you stared at the transparent distress adorning his face. “I believe you, no worries. Just be careful next time.”
“She’s surprisingly laid-back for just getting knocked out. Maybe she's still out of it? I thought for sure she’d at least rip an arm or leg off,” Jongin murmured to himself after you left, eyeing the door you’d calmly exited from.
“Way to go, Chanyeol. Knocking your crush out with a soccer ball you kicked because you were trying to impress her. Might as well give up now.”
Tumblr media
“I told her everything was fine, that I didn’t need to go to the hospital.” You sighed to Junmyeon on your bed, throwing yourself back with another sigh, placing the extra strength painkillers and your ice pack down on your nightstand after your long hospital visit, Junmyeon having rushed over once he heard the news.
“Y/n, obviously she’s gonna take you to the hospital, what if you got amnesia and lost your memories, or something? Plus you asked something weird as soon as you saw me...”
That was true. As soon as you saw your long-lost bestfriend, you asked, “How many friends am I lucky to have?” To which he answered with a confused expression, “...three?”
You erupted into laughter at that, laughing more as you saw the same confused expression spread across his face at your reaction. “Why are you laughing? This is not something to laugh about, young lady!”
“Sorry, I just thought you’d find it funny.”
“Why would I find this funny?”
You just shrugged as he stared you incredulously, as if you had lost your mind, a secret smile on your face as you thought about Junmyeon number two.
"Well, I’m glad that you’re okay, but didn’t you say you had something you wanted to talk about?"
Pursing your lips in thought, you debated telling him about the whole strange journey you’d been on, but decided that maybe it’d be better to leave it in the past, as a strange memory; a dream, nothing less and nothing more than that. “Nothing, I just missed you, best friend.” You leaned over and wrapped your arms around his middle—or at least attempted to.
“Ew, what are you doing?” Junmyeon evaded your touch at the last second, jumping up and created some distance between the two of you, pressing himself against your wall as he stared at you in obvious disgust, you glaring back at him after you regained your balance. “What do you mean you missed me, we just saw each other a few hours ago before you ran into a soccer ball.”
“Fine, I didn’t miss you. And I did not run into a soccer ball, I got hit with a soccer ball, there’s a difference.”
“Chanyeol kicked the ball at you, right? I thought he liked you and was just awkward expressing it, but maybe not if he’d do something so despicable. I’m gonna get revenge for you, Y/n, don’t worry.” Junmyeon began ranting at high speed and all you could do was stare in both mild shock and terror as the glint in his eyes grew more and more calculating. “What should I do—I know! I’m gonna give him all the wrong material for the finals so he’ll fail and—”
“Oh my god, remind me to never get on your bad side.” You grew more alarmed as more words escaped his mouth, the expression on his face growing more and more passionate as he worded his plans out loud and you hurried to stop him and clear the misunderstanding. “But I don’t think he did it on purpose anymore, so there’s no need. You can reign in your inner psycho again, please.”
“You’re even sticking up for him now? What the hell, what brought on this change, did you get hit harder than I thought?”
You smacked his hand away that was slowly approaching with narrowed eyes, before sighing. “I don’t know, just call it a random change of heart and leave it at that.”
“I’m gonna keep a close eye on you. You say you’re fine but you’re acting really weird, you know that, right?”
Simply nodding at his words, he sighed and exhaled as he made his way to your door. “Alright, well I’d better go and let my parents and Minseok know you’re okay. Call me if you need anything, but you probably won’t. You’re a big kid, you got this. Fighting.”
You snickered at his lackluster encouragement and also at him trying to slip in his support for you before insulting you; something that happened every time you got hurt. “Tell them I said hi and that I’ll visit soon. And go already. You’ve stayed too long and I didn’t have the heart to tell you to leave when you’re this worried about lil ol’ me.”
The finger is the only reply you received before you heard him yell from the staircase below moments after he left your room, “By the way, I gave Chanyeol your number! Bye, love you!”
Tumblr media
The slight rustling of the leaves in the trees from the cooling wind mixed with the warm sun hitting your face calmed your nerves a little. You were sat on a bench located in a park close to your house, gazing up at the clouds in the ceaseless blue sky.
You’d gotten a text from Chanyeol almost immediately after Junmyeon told you he’d given him your number. He’d apologized repeatedly and to let him know if there was anything he could do for you.
Replying back that you were fine and not to worry, you’d asked him to meet you at said park after soccer practice on Friday if he had time, which was today. He’d texted back not even ten seconds later, agreeing and that he would see you there.
You remember smiling to yourself and thought that maybe he wasn’t so bad after all. Now that you were back, you just didn’t want to waste anymore time. You wanted to hash things out, clear things up... and maybe, you missed him just a little bit.
“Y/n!” The sound of your name being called by that oh so familiar voice had your head turning to the right, eyes widening as you saw Chanyeol sprinting full speed in your direction. He was still dressed in his soccer uniform, barely managing to stop himself from running into your perched figure at the last second, drenched in sweat and trying to talk through his panting. “Sorry... I came as fast as I could... you weren’t waiting long, were you?”
Shaking your head, you scooted to the left a bit, patting the bench next to you for him to take a seat to rest. “Did you run here straight from practice?” He took a seat with a grateful smile, nodding to your question. “You could’ve taken your time, it’s really nice, I don’t mind waiting a bit. I feel bad for rushing you.”
“Nah, don’t worry, I’m used to running. I just didn’t want you waiting alone long.”
Chanyeol’s words had your skin warming and you were sure it had nothing to do with the weather. He was still trying to catch his breath and you eyed his matted hair and that drop of sweat that was beginning to run down the side of his face.
Knuckle gingerly meeting the skin right above his eyebrow, you froze the next second in alarm, screaming to yourself what the hell are you doing. Wide eyes staring at each other, the two of you stayed in that position for a short while before you averted your eyes and cleared your throat awkwardly, letting your hand fall back into your lap.
He wiped the sweat off his face as best he could, scooting further from you a bit. “Sorry if I smell like sweat, I should’ve showered quick before meeting you. How’s your head?”
“I’m good. My doctor said there’s nothing to worry about as long as I take it easy the next few days.”
“That’s good to hear, I really am sorry about... everything, again.”
It was a bit of an awkward silence between the two of you and you took in a deep breath, deciding to just get straight to the point when Chanyeol spoke up before you could. “I think I know what you wanted to talk about... I-I heard from Junmyeon, when he gave me your number, that I might’ve said and done some things to make you think that I don’t like you. But I swear that’s not it and I can explain, if you let me.”
You were taken aback by his words, and you tore your eyes away from your lap to look up at him in shock. He became more nervous the longer you took to reply, hearing the gravel beneath his feet as he began shuffling them a bit. “So you don’t... hate me?”
He shook his head at your question, completely earnest as he rushed to reply. “I could never hate you! It’s just the opposite! I’m just... not good at this flirting thing...”
Eyes going wide at his admission, you felt your heartbeat thunder in your chest. “F-Flirting? This whole time you’ve been... flirting with me?”
An embarrassed look crossed his face at your question, nodding slowly. “Yeah... or at least I was trying to.”
“Oh.”
You felt bad that that was all you could say, but your mind was going a trillion miles a second trying to process the information you’d just learned. It was like your brain was correcting old incorrect flashbacks of when you thought he was out to get you, but now that you knew he wasn’t, you could now see clearly in your mind just how purely happy his smile always was whenever he saw you.
Then that time when he’d asked if you and Junmyeon were dating... And here you were thinking he was a giant jerk when really he—
“Remember when I asked you if you had any friends in class all those months ago?”
“Of course, I do. I was so embarrassed...”
“What I uh, what I actually meant to ask that day was if I could be your friend.”
“Huh?”
“I’m serious...”
You stared at him, not totally believing him, still remembering the humiliation you felt that day clearly. “So you asking me if I had any friends...” you trailed off and looked at him expectantly, needing to reassure yourself, to hear his side again to really determine if you believed him or not.
“I really didn’t mean to embarrass you, I promise. I just really wanted to become friends—I still do! You just... you kind of intimidate me, and I thought... that you’d be less likely to reject my offer of friendship if I did it publicly and it came out like that...”
“What about the, ‘Nice hair, sleeping beauty!’ comment?”
Chanyeol blinked at you, pink dusting his cheeks and the tips of his ears as he averted your eyes, gaze falling briefly on your tendrils dancing softly in the wind before quietly answering, his gaze glazing over a little as a soft smile crept up on his lips. “Well, you do have nice hair. It’s really pretty and I’ve... always liked it. But that day was the first and only time I’ve seen you with your hair up, so I was able to see your face—” he abruptly cut himself off as he felt himself begin to ramble, eyes widening as he shook his head to get back to the question at hand, he finished abashedly, “—and the sleeping beauty comment was because it was also the first and only time I’d ever seen you not show up early to school from oversleeping, so I just blurted it out... maybe I shouldn’t have done that...” He met your stare again as he offered a sheepish smile.
Your poor heart couldn’t keep up with the words you were hearing leave Chanyeol’s mouth. He was too cute. Pure.
Not a malicious thought in that brain of his. You were having trouble fighting back the smile that wanted to show itself.
“...and the, ‘What’s up, nerd? And knocking the books out of my hands?” You couldn’t look him in the eyes but when he straightened suddenly, you glanced at him, not expecting the adorable clumsiness of a reason for the incident.
“I knocked your books out of your hands when I tripped?”
It was your turn to blink at him. “You’re saying you fell?”
Chanyeol nodded slowly, a laugh escaping him. “I’m actually really clumsy. I can’t go a day without tripping on my own feet at least once. I’m really sorry I knocked them out of your hands. I was trying to get your attention so I called you nerd as a kind of a nickname of sorts, ‘cause you’re always studying hard and reading a new book every time I see you, and I remember tripping right when I was walking past you and I... got embarrassed and sped out of there... sorry.”
The more you listened to him, the harder it was to keep a neutral expression in order to not make is apparent embarrassment any worse. You didn’t want him to think you were laughing at him, but he was just so... cute. How could you have ever misunderstood him so badly?
Seemingly oblivious to the smile almost erupting on your lips, he continued without a pause. “My friend told me that girls like the confident, bad boy type. That I had to pretend that I had no interest in you whatsoever, but I still wanted to talk and see you so I just...” he trailed off, his features scrunching up as he ruffled his hair with a quiet groan. “Okay, now I see it.”
You couldn’t keep the full-blown grin anymore and burst out laughing. “Which friend told you all that? It was Sehun, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah! How’d you know it was him?” Chanyeol was smiling in response to your smile but also in amazement at how you immediately guessed right.
“Just a guess. But I don’t think he’s the best person to be getting advice from, for future reference.”
He laughed with you, breathing out a big sigh next to you. “Did I... answer all your questions?”
“You really didn’t mean to hit me with the soccer ball, right?”
“No, of course not!” He was quick to defend himself, shuffling his feet and awkwardly fiddling with his fingers as he muttered softly, “I was trying to impress you by making a goal, not realizing that you weren’t even paying attention and it somehow hit the goalpost at an angle and... I’m really sorry.”
Nodding at his answer, you ducked your head for a few seconds before interlacing your fingers into his, sending his shocked self a smile. “Okay.”
“O-Okay?”
“I can see now that I’ve misunderstood you this whole time, and I’m really sorry for that. And... if it’s okay with you, I’d like to get to know you and see where this takes us.”
It was a sensation of deja-vu;
the way he absolutely beamed down at you, his grin wide, eyes formed into crescents...
down to the way your insides felt all warm just from looking at him.
     even down to his reply:
“That sounds great.”
Maybe it was worth taking a risk on people sometimes, especially when someone you least expected to becomes so special to you, becomes the first person to make you feel this way, that someone who smiles at you like that.

𝚁𝚘𝚜é 𝚡 𝙵𝚎𝚖! 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚛 [𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚜𝚝] 𝚠𝚊𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐! 𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜 𝚘𝚏 𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏 𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚖
A new school year, I hoped it would go well, I and my girlfriend being in the same school this year was amazing as well, my parents finally agreed to transfer you here. I wanted to walk to school with Rosé since it was just a few streets away, and being in year 11 is also cool, we can do so many new things.
I woke up early super excited to have moments where Rosé comes behind my from your locker, kissing my check, or holding hands when we walk each other to classes.
At the moment Rosé was my only happiness, i didn’t tell my parents i got bullied in my last school, i don’t want to stress them. My parents work all the time, I don’t remember the last time i saw them. They leave at 4am and come home at 12am, it’s super unhealthy.
Since Rosé is my neighbour, i get to go to her house a lot, we have so many memories together and we are still only young.
Once i was ready, i waited for Rosé outside her house, she came out looking annoyed, rather than happy, when she came next to me, i got on my tippy toes to give her a kiss, but she didn’t even try to kiss me back, i pouted and she looked at me, rolling her eyes and gave me a small peck on the lips.
We walked to school hand in hand, walking in a comfortable silence, but once the school was in sight, she let go of my hand, backing away from me. The school was big, it was wired seeing boys since i just came from a all girls private school, it was also wired seeing girl wear trackies under their school shirk.
“Rosé where is class-“ I turn over to look at Rosé but she not there, i look around to see her sitting with other girls, i smile and run up to hey. “Hey-“ I started, greeting the girls she was sitting with. “Get lost new girl,” One of the five girls said.
“Yeah go hang out with the losers.” Another girl fake pouted put her hand on her forehead in the shape of an ‘L’
The girls laughed, even Rosé joined in, making me a little sad. Another girl, the second tallest of the group, walked up to me holding your sleeves of my jacket. She pulled them up showing my scars, i pulled them down hiding them. I walked away, tears threatening to fall out my eyes, how could Rosé let them treat me like that.
On the way up to the top of the buliding, I bump into a guy, “Rough start?” He asks. “Yeah, how did you know?”
“Those girls, Rosé Narum, Sooyoung, Jennie, and Nayeon are the bullies of the school.” He said, i shook my head, no way my girlfriend was the bully of the school. She’s so nice out of school, does this mean i’m considered a loser to her?
I started breathing heavily, i couldn’t control it, my finger started to shake, and i new what it was, stupid panic attacks. I sat down on the stairs and tried to control my breath. “Hey hey hey hey, it’s ok”
The guy sat next to me, and held my hands, not to tightly but so much si it was comforting. “Breath with me, In and out.” He repeated this until I was feeling better, “I know they can be a pain but trust me, Rosé is my girlfriend and she's nice.” He told me.
More tears fall down and soon as i hear his words. “She’s my girlfriend.” I sob, he wides his eyes, but i call tell he wants to remain calm so he doesn’t panic me. “I’m Jeongin.” The guy smiled, giving me more comfort.
“I’m Y/n” i smile his voice and him coming to me giving me comfort. “their coming.” Jeongin told me. “Jeongin, why are you hanging out with this wiredo!” one of the girls asks. “she’s not a wiredo, leave us alone jennie!”
i was hoping rosé would stand up for me, but she laughed along at the nasty comments they where giving me. “Rosé was right.” the girl who i now knew was called Jennie said. “You’re nothing but a burden to her, leave her and us the fuck alone.
“Rosie, you said that?” i asked looking at her. She looked down, shamefully. “I trusted you.” i cried, my voice trailing off.

warnings - none for this chapter
A/N - Might be the longest chapter yet. But I had so much fun writing this chapter. I wanted it to seem like you were in the room, witnessing it irl. It took a lot of brain power, but I would like to believe that this chapter basically wrote itself. As always, let me know what you thought. Is this the beginning of the end? Are all the characters finally going to converge, making the following chapters a compelling read? Read on to find out, my lovelies ~~
Chapter 10: Glimmers of recognition
The grand ballroom exuded opulence, lit by the soft glow of chandeliers resembling crystalline constellations. Gilded mirrors reflected the elegance of the elite attendees, their gowns and tailored suits creating a tapestry of wealth and influence. Fragrances of exotic perfumes wafted through the air, mingling with the rustle of silk and the hum of quiet conversations.
Live music cascaded through the ballroom, the quartet weaving classical melodies with a modern twist. The haunting strains of a cello and the ethereal notes of a piano created an atmosphere of refined indulgence, a backdrop to the intricate dance of intrigue and ambition.
Chanyeol, dressed in a sharp suit that complemented his towering figure, moved through the crowd with a calculated ease. His eyes, sharp and observant, scanned the room for any signs of the elusive figures that often lurked in the city's shadows.
As he neared the center of the grand ballroom, a sudden hush fell over the crowd. Intrigued whispers passed through the guests, and Chanyeol felt the shift in the atmosphere. Turning toward the source of the disturbance, he was met with a sight he hadn't anticipated.
There, amidst the sea of elegantly dressed attendees, stood Kai, or Jongin, as he knew him to be. Dressed in a tailored suit that accentuated his lean frame, Kai's presence commanded attention. His eyes, dark and enigmatic, scanned the room with a mixture of confidence and detachment.
Chanyeol's heart quickened. The tension in the air was palpable as their eyes locked from across the room. The unspoken history between them crackled like electricity, and the weight of unresolved questions hung in the balance.
For a moment, time seemed to freeze. The distant hum of conversation faded into the background, leaving only the echo of their shared past. Chanyeol's mind raced with conflicting emotions – duty, suspicion, and an undercurrent of a connection that refused to be severed.
Chanyeol engaged in polite banter with fellow attendees, all while keeping a watchful eye on Kai. The atmosphere buzzed with a sense of exclusivity, each conversation veiled in layers of hidden motives and social intricacies. Amid the sophisticated gala, Chanyeol approached a well-dressed acquaintance, subtly inquiring about Kai.
"Excuse me," Chanyeol said, turning to the gentleman, "Do you know who that is?" He discreetly gestured towards Kai, who held court in a small gathering.
The man glanced over, his eyes narrowing in recognition. "That's Kai. A respected dealer in vintage cars, collectibles, and regal jewelry. The crème de la crème seek him out for his expertise. A man of impeccable taste and discretion. Created a name for himself about six years ago. No one knows where he came from, but he sure did manage to have them wrapped around his finger. Always kept it as a rule to never be explicitly involved with the illegal activities his customers deal with. Maintained an untainted business ever since."
Chanyeol absorbed the information, a thoughtful expression on his face. Armed with this knowledge, he returned to the unfolding drama of the gala, where his past and present were converging in unexpected ways.
Amidst the glittering assembly, Kai moved with a quiet confidence. He effortlessly commanded attention. The crowd swarmed around him, a sea of faces swooning over the man of refined tastes. His charm was palpable as he engaged in conversations, each word a carefully chosen note in the symphony of the gala.
As Kai effortlessly mingled, Chanyeol observed from afar, his sharp gaze tracking the ebb and flow of the crowd around Kai. The social elite gravitated toward him, their conversations a harmonious blend of admiration and curiosity. Kai  navigated the sea of faces with an ease that hinted at a familiarity with the intricacies of this world.
Kai observed Chanyeol inconspicuously. He knew Chanyeol would be here, his presence a deliberate move. The air between them crackled with unspoken tension as their eyes met across the ballroom. Ever so perceptive, he locked eyes with Chanyeol, reading him like an open book.
The quartet's music became a subtle backdrop to this silent exchange, the tension escalating with each passing note. Conversations swirled around them, the elite attendees oblivious to the intricate dance of shadows playing out in their midst.
Kai, aware of Chanyeol's gaze, maintained a composed exterior, yet his eyes betrayed a watchful awareness. There was an unspoken acknowledgment between them, a recognition of the shared history that bound them, and the secrets that lingered beneath the surface.
Chanyeol continued his discrete observations. Kai's interactions were layered with intrigue, his conversations veiled in mystery. It was a game they had played before, but tonight, the stakes were higher, the dance more intricate.
As the quartet's music reached a crescendo, the tension between Chanyeol and Kai lingered in the air. The ballroom, a stage for the unfolding drama, held its breath as the two figures moved in a delicate dance of shadows. The night wore on, each passing moment a step closer to the revelation of hidden truths.
Chanyeol, torn between the allure of the gala and the need for answers, couldn't help but be drawn into the gravitational pull of Kai's orbit. The tension between them simmered beneath the surface. Feeling the weight of the past, he decided to approach the epicenter of the gala where Kai held court. He weaved through the elegant throng, his eyes never leaving Kai's figure. The air buzzed with anticipation as he neared, the orchestra now transitioning to a vibrant waltz that infused the atmosphere with renewed energy.
Kai, sensing Chanyeol's approach, turned to face him with an air of nonchalance. The exchange was subtle, a nod of acknowledgment that spoke volumes. The symphony of the waltz played on, casting a spell over the ballroom, encapsulating the drama unfolding between the two old friends.
As Chanyeol finally stood before Kai, the two locked eyes in a silent dialogue. Conversations around them blurred into a distant hum, the world narrowing down to the charged space they occupied. The unspoken tension between them demanded resolution.
"You certainly know how to make an entrance," Chanyeol quipped, a wry smile playing on his lips. The banter emerged effortlessly.
Kai replied with a smirk, "Old habits die hard, Loey. I've always enjoyed a bit of theatrics."
The atmosphere around them crackled with the intensity of their exchange, the weight of untold stories hanging in the air. The gala continued its elegant rhythm, but in their bubble, time seemed to stand still.
Chanyeol, probing yet cautious, ventured, "It's been a while, Jongin. High school feels like a lifetime ago. I hear you go by Kai now."
Kai's eyes bore into Chanyeol's, a glint of mystery behind the veneer of sophistication. "Indeed. Life takes unexpected turns, doesn't it?"
"What brings you to an event like this, Jongin" Chanyeol inquired, his voice carrying a subtle edge.
Kai flashed a sly smile. "The same thing that brings everyone – connections," he replied, his tone light and banter-filled.
"Connections? Or business?" Chanyeol pressed, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"A bit of both. You should try it sometime," Kai teased, his words hanging in the air like a veiled challenge.
Shifting gears, Chanyeol delved into more direct territory. "What's your trade these days?" he inquired, genuinely curious.
Kai, the picture of nonchalance, responded, "Vintage cars, collectibles, and regal jewelry. The finer things."
Chanyeol, having heard whispers about Kai's prowess, couldn't help but acknowledge, "Heard you're the best in the game."
Kai's eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief. "Rumors. But I do like to maintain a certain reputation."
"A clean reputation?" Chanyeol probed, skepticism etching his expression.
Kai leaned in slightly, his words a playful whisper. "As clean as the driven snow. Drama doesn't suit my business style."
Their exchange held a subtext, a subtle dance of veiled truths and guarded confessions. Chanyeol couldn't shake the feeling that Kai held more cards in this intricate game than he did. The mystery of Kai's disappearance and reappearance gnawed at the edges of his curiosity.
With a nod toward the crowd, Chanyeol inquired, "What brings you back into the limelight, Jongin? And with such flair, might I add."
Kai leaned in, his voice a low murmur, "You, my old friend, might find the answer in the shadows you're so adept at navigating."
Before Chanyeol could press further, a ripple of applause signaled the end of the waltz. The moment, pregnant with unspoken revelations, dissolved into the rhythm of the gala. Kai, maintaining his enigmatic aura, excused himself with a polite nod.
As Chanyeol watched Kai disappear into the glittering crowd, he couldn't shake the feeling that the shadows of their shared history concealed more than they revealed. The ballroom, now ablaze with conversations and music, held the echoes of a reunion that had only scratched the surface of the enigma that was Kai.
Kai seamlessly merged into the crowd, a figure of intrigue that drew the attention of the elite attendees. The whispers of admiration followed him like a wake as he navigated through the sea of opulence.
The socialites, adorned in their most exquisite attire, subtly jockeyed for Kai's attention. His magnetic presence, combined with an air of mystery, turned him into a coveted jewel in the ballroom's glittering crown.
A group of elegantly dressed women approached Kai, their eyes shimmering with admiration. They engaged him in animated conversation, laughter and flirtation blending into the rich tapestry of the gala. Kai, the consummate charmer, effortlessly reciprocated, his smiles holding a hint of mischief.
Chanyeol, observing from a distance, felt a twinge of nostalgia. This was the 'Jongin' he remembered, the charismatic friend who effortlessly navigated social circles. Yet, there was an undeniable transformation – an evolution from the carefree high school days to a man who now held court in the circles of power.
Kai's eyes, scanning the room, found Chanyeol's gaze. Their eyes locked momentarily, an unspoken understanding passing between them. Chanyeol wondered how much of their shared history Kai carried with him, and if he, too, felt the weight of unresolved questions.
As the night unfolded, Kai effortlessly glided from one conversation to another, leaving an indelible impression on everyone he encountered. Whispers of admiration and curiosity followed in his wake, painting him as an elusive figure draped in an aura of mystique.
The orchestra shifted its tune, signaling the commencement of another dance. Kai, ever the master of ceremonies, gracefully invited a distinguished lady to join him on the floor. The duo swirled in a choreographed dance, captivating the onlookers with their effortless elegance.
Chanyeol, leaning against a pillar, observed Kai with a mix of admiration and wariness. The dance seemed like a metaphor for their complex relationship – a series of graceful moves on the surface, concealing the intricacies of their uncharted history.
Unable to shake off the lingering tension from his encounter with Kai at the gala, he decided to step out of the opulent ballroom. The air outside was crisp, a stark contrast to the heated atmosphere within. He made his way through the grand entrance, casting a final glance over his shoulder as the rhythmic melodies faded into the night.
As he traversed the moonlit courtyard, Chanyeol couldn't shake the feeling that Kai's presence lingered, a ghostly echo in the corridors of his memory. He quickened his pace, determined to unravel the enigma that had resurfaced from his past.
The distant echo of the gala began to fade, replaced by the rhythmic hum of the urban night. Retrieving his car from the valet, Chanyeol drove through the empty streets, his mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. The city skyline sprawled before him, a glittering tapestry of lights that mirrored the myriad thoughts racing through Chanyeol's mind. The city lights painted fleeting glimpses of clarity on his face, revealing the furrowed brow of a man grappling with the shadows of his past. The city's nocturnal pulse throbbed around him as the cab weaved through labyrinthine streets.
As he neared his home, the anticipation in the air grew palpable. Every step felt like an echo, each passing moment a prelude to the imminent confrontation with Kai. The car slowed to a halt, and Chanyeol, drawing a steadying breath, stepped into the night.
In the quietude of his home, Chanyeol's thoughts were a tempest of uncertainty. The revelation of Kai's presence had cast a web of doubt, intertwining the threads of past and present. He pondered the significance of Kai's connection to Y/N, a connection veiled in secrecy and half-truths.
The door creaked open, a portal to the unknown, and Chanyeol stepped into the dimly lit interior. A figure emerged from the shadows, stepping into the soft glow of light. It was Kai, his expression a mask that betrayed little of the tumult within. Chanyeol` was taken aback, as he wondered how in the heck did Kai manage to get in his home. He thought he was still at the gala where he last saw him.
Chanyeol's gaze bore into Kai's, searching for answers in the depths of those familiar eyes. The silence between them held the weight of unspoken history, a narrative that begged to be unraveled. Kai, breaking the quietude, spoke with a voice that carried the weight of shared memories.
"Loey," Kai began, his words measured, "there are truths that demand reckoning, and i guess the time has come."
As the night unfolded, the conversation between the two men traversed the labyrinth of their shared history. The revelations, like shards of glass, reflected the complexities of a past intertwined with secrets, loyalties, and the presence of Y/N. Chanyeol, haunted by the ghosts of choices made and paths diverged, confronted the reality that awaited him at the crossroads of destiny.
In the tranquil expanse of Chanyeol's apartment, the air buzzed with a silent storm of unresolved history. The soft glow of muted lights cast a flickering dance on the walls, creating an ambiance that mirrored the tension between two figures locked in a confrontation.
Chanyeol, standing at a distance, started with a genuine concern that seeped into his voice, "Jongin, where the hell have you been all these years? You disappeared without a trace, not a word. We were friends, and I... I needed someone back then."
Kai, leaning against a table, his gaze steady, replied with a cryptic smile, "People change, bro. Sometimes they need to disappear to find themselves." His words, a veiled commentary on the passage of time, lingered in the air.
The genuine worry that initially etched Chanyeol's features slowly morphed into a mask of frustration. "You think you can just waltz back into my life and pretend like nothing happened? Like you didn't leave me  when I needed you the most?" His words, tinged with betrayal, hung heavy in the room.
Kai, cool as ever, countered with a quirked eyebrow, "Well, I'm here now, aren't I? Things change, people change. Get over it, man." His dismissive tone cut through the lingering emotions, leaving a bitter aftertaste.
“I had literally received word from my mother that my dad died due to a heart attack. I was so lost. I was grieving. Didn’t you think I would need you to be there for me?” Chanyeol said, his voice betraying him by cracking a bit. Kai doesn’t utter a word at this. He knew this, but he chose to stay silent.
The exchange took a sharper turn as Chanyeol, unable to suppress the growing anger, took a step forward. "How do you know Y/N?" The question, edged with a hint of aggression, demanded answers. He felt Kai didn’t give a shit about the past, so he at least wanted to get answers regarding the present.
Kai, unfazed, leaned back with a nonchalant demeanor. "We've known each other since we were young," he answered vaguely, a deliberate choice to keep the details shrouded in mystery.
Chanyeol, frustration bubbling to the surface, fired back with a pointed remark, "People might have believed in your vanishing act, but I sure as hell didn't. You left without a word, without any explanation. Some friend you turned out to be."
Kai, a sly grin playing on his lips, chose to deflect rather than engage. "My turn," he declared, shifting the focus. "How does it feel to still be living in your father's shadows?" The question, a calculated jab at Chanyeol's past, lingered in the charged air.
Chanyeol, his temper rising, retorted with a sharp tone, "I left that life behind. I've got nothing to do with my father or his empire." The words, a declaration of independence, resonated with the weight of Chanyeol's choices.
Kai, undeterred, continued to peel back the layers. "Then why has taking it down been your life's mission for the past eight years?" His inquiry, a challenge to the sincerity of Chanyeol's motives, was met with a brooding silence.
In the midst of the verbal sparring, Chanyeol's patience wore thin, and he snapped back with a pointed question, "Have you and Y/N ever been together romantically?" The words, laced with accusation, sought to unravel any hidden connections. Why do I need to answer his questions about my past when he obviously doesn’t give a flying fuck?!?
Kai, seizing the opportunity to maintain the upper hand, chuckled and replied vaguely, "We've always been platonic friends, except for that one time we almost kissed each other way back when." His playful evasion added another layer of mystery to the already complex dynamic.
As the verbal jousting continued, Chanyeol, now fueled by frustration and confusion, pressed on with a revelation. "We confessed our love to each other not too long ago. We're together, Jongin." The admission, intended to assert his present happiness, instead intensified the brewing storm.
Kai, eyes betraying a hint of emotion, couldn't resist taking a dig. "Some gall you have to be in a relationship with her. You are obviously toying her around. I wouldn’t believe it for a second that you ..hah…actually ‘love’ her," he remarked, the words dripping with resentment.
Chanyeol, no stranger to the art of verbal combat, shot back with defiant pride, "What the hell do you mean by that shit?"
The atmosphere grew dense with unspoken grievances as Kai, choosing to remain enigmatic, delivered a cryptic warning. "If you have the slightest bit of shame and guilt for what your father has done to this city, or even the people who were under his employ for that matter, you'd stay away from Y/N."
Chanyeol, anger boiling over, demanded an explanation. "What the fuck are you on about?"
Kai, unwilling to reveal more, decided it was time to end the conversation. As he made his way toward the exit, Chanyeol's frustration reached its peak, and he shouted after him, "Who do YOU think you are, telling me what I must do or who I must love? Get the hell out of my home Jongin or Kai or whatever the fuck you call yourself now You are a fucking traitor, and have proven without a shadow of a doubt that we were never friends and now never will be!"
Kai stopped, turned around, and with a parting shot, said, "You sure about that, Loey?" The words lingered in the air as Kai exited, leaving Chanyeol seething with unanswered questions and a lingering sense of unrest.

good enough (park chanyeol x reader)
Tumblr media
pairing: park chanyeol x reader
word count: 212
genre: angst & fluffy 🥺
warnings: -
a/n: i swear i wrote this like in the first half of 2022, when i was going through a rough moment and needed some comforting. today, more than a year later, pcy releases "good enough" and reminds me that we will always be fine.
you kissed chanyeol’s cheek before also kissing the side of his neck and burying your face there, tears wetting his skin. he wrapped his long arms around you, palms resting flat on your back.
“if you gotta stop, you gotta stop”, he said. “there’s no problem with that.”
you nodded, sighing against the warm embrace of your boyfriend. things got out of hand and you had received medical orders to step back and put your health first, at least for once; that meant taking some time off from work and all of your other activities, and just literally resting. you knew you were doing the right thing, you trusted your doctors, but both anxiety and that little stupid voice on the back of your mind telling you that you were weak were eating you alive.
“how are you feeling right now?”, chanyeol’s voice brought you back.
he meant to step back from your embrace, but you hugged his waist tighter, a silent request for him to not let you go, to hold you just a little big longer. he happily obliged.
“okay, okay”, he chuckled. “i’m not letting you go.”
chanyeol kissed the top of your head, inhaling the sweet scent of your shampoo and humming against your hair.
“i’m here with you. you’re gonna be fine.”

you had just moved into a cottage in the middle of the woods. worried friends and family urged you not to go; the woods were haunted they said. you would get a ghost, they said. but considering the cottage was the only place you could afford (but telling them you loved the woods), you moved nonetheless. you didn't want to admit they were right when you noticed strange things being left on your doorstep. vowing to seek who was doing this, you had come to a shock when a handsome ghostly figure stood by your door with a peacock in his arms and a sheepish grin on his face.

It was a year ago today. The day when you were supposed to wake up with a smile, hearing your family’s thumping steps on the wooden floor on the way to your room. The day when your younger sister was supposed to be running towards you to attack you with kisses, your mom holding out a cake that says ‘happy birthday’, and your father following closely behind them, singing the happy birthday song with his awfully hoarse morning voice, just like the annual tradition. Rather, you woke up to the loud and thunderous knocks on your bedroom door, along with what you recognized as your father’s voice. And the second you turned the lock on the knob, the door flew and a hand met your right cheek.
You were scared, but you weren’t sure what you were scared for. Sure your dad looked scary, his face was blood red, his breathing uneven, and his hands clenched into fists, but you didn’t know what he was acting scary for. You held your cheek, trying to ease up the stinging sensation that lingered.
“D-dad?”, you managed to stutter out. Your father shut his eyes close and sighed.
You looked away and noticed your mom and your sister on the wooden staircase behind your dad. Your mom was holding her face in her hands, and your sister was rubbing her back. Only then did you realize that they were both crying.
“M-mom? S-stacy? W-what’s going o-on?”, you choked out, feeling the hot tears that were running down your face.
It was silent again, and you hated it. The silence was deafening and you swore you almost heard the cells in your brain die. You always hated situations like this, it made you feel so anxious and you were about to throw up.
“D-dad, M-mom what’s happening w-why are y–”
“You don’t have to call me dad anymore,” your dad cut you off, and you heard your mom cry louder.
“D-dad w-will you please at least t-tell me what’s going on?”, you said in between sobs, “please?”
Your dad let out another loud sigh, and you noticed his eyes getting misty. “Stacy, give me your phone. Your sister wants to know why, so I’ll show her why”, he said in a firm tone.
Stacy stood up from the stairs and took out the phone from her pocket. She handed it over to your dad, avoiding his gaze including yours. You were practically begging for her to look at you with your eyes while your dad was fumbling with the gadget, but she stood behind him, staring at the floor with her hair covering her face.
Your father handed to you the phone, showing a paused video on the screen. You pressed play, and turned the volume up. You were puzzled to say the least. The video had poor lighting but when the light source hit the surface of a very familiar face in the frame, you dropped the phone, leaving a small crack on the lower left part of the screen.
Your brain tried to put the pieces of information it recently gathered together, but you were about to pass out. Unconsciously shaking, you stumbled on your feet, and dropped to the floor. That was the last thing you remembered before your sight blacked out.
Your life today is a little bit different to how it was a year ago, yet it was still sort of the same. You moved to a different town, a different school, a different environment. It isn’t much worse now, but some people would still look at you and gossip as you pass by the same. Others don’t even stab you in the back, they hit you in the front now.
You moved with your family in the hopes of forgetting everything and starting anew, but unfortunately the news reached your new home too. Your parents insisted that you move places again when people in your school started talking, but you hated the feeling of being an inconvenience. So you did your best to heal and learn how to not a give a fuck to what others say, even if it burnt you out on most days.
“It’s okay, Mom. I’ll be alright, they’re not hurting me anyway,” you said in the softest voice.
“Are you sure? We can just move out of the country, baby. It’s best that we just go, hmm?” she held your hands in one, and caressed your face in the other.
“Yeah. We should just move if you’re uncomfortable here, my love,” your dad added as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
“Then we’d have to spend money again. I know you guys had a hard time adjusting as well, especially Stacy,” you fumbled with the fabric of your shorts, “I’m okay, really.”
But even though you’ve learnt to not give a shit and shrug off what bullshit other people— who don’t even know you, by the way— say anymore over the past months, there are still times when you have to endure how painful the words you overhear from conversations of people in your school are. And when you couldn’t, you’d have to run back to your only safe place in school, the comfort room at the back of the school library to turn into a ball and cry. On some days when you think you’re all better and don’t give a fuck anymore, you hear words you tried so hard to delete from your system, and it makes you want to throw up again.
You hate whoever did this to you. However, over the process of healing, you realized that you hate those people who try to act nice in front of you, act like they care for you, act like they support you, but actually talk rotten behind you more. And you hate people who try to control you into thinking that you are the one to blame, the most, because there are times that their words sting too much you begin to doubt yourself again after trying so hard to convince yourself that you were never at fault.
xx
It’s the first day of the semestral break, and you couldn’t be more happy and relieved to be far from society. You don’t have to do anything but lie down in your comfy bed, and binge watch your favorite shows all day. You can read books you hoarded in the past but never really touched after, as well!
“Y/N! Stacy! Come here, give these apples to our new neighbors!” your mom shouted from the kitchen.
You and your sister, Stacy peeked out of your bedrooms at the same time, and when your eyes met you both sighed.
“I was watching Stranger Things, I was in the good part!”, you whined.
“I was reading a good fic on Tumblr as well! I was in the climax of the story!”, Stacy stomped her feet playfully and you both giggled.
“Y/N! Stacy! Did you hear me?” your Mom shouted again, which made you and Stacy instinctively run down the stairs.
xx
“Good afternoon Mister– uhmm?”, Stacy said to the man sitting on the balcony outside the house your mom sent you to for a quick mission.
“Park. Mr. Park,” the grown man smiled.
“Oh, nice to meet you Mr. Park! We’re from the house next to yours. We heard you just moved in, so my mom wanted you to have this!” Stacy beamed at him, while you stood behind her quietly.
“Oh I see! What are your names? You should come in! We had a feast for lunch, you should help us finish the food!” Mr. Park said while turning the knob of the front door.
“I’m Stacy, this is my older sister Y/n. My mom’s name is Rachel, and my dad’s is Samuel”, she said as she took off her sneakers.
“How old are you guys? I have a son who’s in the 11th grade, and a daughter who’s gonna be in her 2nd year in university.”
“I’m in 11th grade as well, Stacy is in 9th. We’re in Jungwon Highschool”, you said as you took off your jacket
“You should meet my son then! He’s transferring to Jungwon! But he’s not here now, he took the dog out on a walk in the park”, he said while grabbing plates from the kitchen.
After eating a few sweet fruits, you and your sister headed back home with two full plates of side dishes Mr. Park’s family offered. You passed by a tall unfamiliar guy carrying a black dog on the way back, and you figured maybe he was Mr. Park’s son.
xx
It’s the first day of the spring semester, the weather's been really better the past few days and you couldn’t be any happier because it means you don’t have to wear a heavy coat to school anymore.
While walking to the bus stop, you saw a familiar guy crouching down to pet a kitten.
Cute
He picked the cat up and moved it to a spot away from the pavement onto the bushes, probably for its safety. The moment he turned to your direction, you realized he was the same guy who you passed by once, on the way home from your new neighbor’s house. He was wearing the same uniform as you, and there you confirmed he really was the Parks’ son.
The bell rang and your class adviser went into the classroom. He was with the same guy you encountered earlier, announcing that your class has a new student to welcome.
“My name is Park Chanyeol. Please take care of me”, the guy said as he smiled and bowed down. He took the empty seat in front of you and settled down.
xx
“Pass your quizlets to the president after lunch. Late submissions will have deductions. Is that clear, class?” the 4th period teacher announced as she walked out the room.
The chime rang on the school speakers, and the lunch break started. All your classmates darted out the room, while you stayed in your seat, resting your head on the desk to take a nap like usual. Except, this time you aren’t left alone in the room. Chanyeol stayed, seemingly finishing the quizlet the teacher gave.
“Excuse me, can I borrow your eraser?” He asked, knocking on your desk to get your attention.
“Ah, sure. Here,” you pass him the black piece of soft rubber from your pencil case.
“Didn’t know they sell black ones. I should get myself one like this too. I actually hate when the white ones get dirty,” he rambled on while erasing whatever he had to erase and gave it back to you. You nod sheepishly as a response.
“I’m Chanyeol. What’s your name?” he pursed his lips while waiting for you to answer.
“I’m y/n. I actually live next to you,” you smile, scratching your nape.
Chanyeol was saying something but you weren’t really listening. Not when you heard some girls at the back door say, “what is she doing? Is she flirting with him?” “I seriously can’t believe her, after all that happened to her she has the guts to flirt with boys again?” “Maybe she thinks she can bait the new guy because he’s clueless” “and attractive, too”
You just smiled at him, and rested your head back down again, wearing earphones this time to block out whatever conversations you didn’t have to hear.
xx
You were sitting on the bench outside your go-to place, the comfort room at the back of the school library, watching whatever random videos youtube recommended in the home section. A video of a band doing a cover of some other band’s song came up, and you suddenly heard someone clear their throat from behind you which made you jump a little bit from your seat.
“So, are you into bands?” Chanyeol asked as he sat beside you on the bench.
If you were to be really honest, you grew scared of meeting people through the past year. You really hate it when people bring up things which they are not in the place to talk about. You’d tell them if you wanted them to know, and if you wouldn’t then they just have to accept and respect it, not be a total nosy ass. And unfortunately, everyone who tried to talk to you in this school brought up things you wished they didn’t. It made you feel like they’re only talking to you to know the tea. So you shut them out immediately, afraid to be hurt by them again if you get attached to them.
Which is why you struggled to let out a response to Chanyeol’s curiosity.
Why does he want to know about that? What will he do with that information? What if he uses it against me in the future? I should be careful with what I say, I might give out too much information.
All sorts of thoughts, running in your mind right now.
“Are you okay?” he asked when he realized you were only staring with a surprised expression at him, “is something wrong?”
“U-uhm, yeah. And, n-no. I’m s-sorry,” you looked away, keeping your phone in your pocket.
Chanyeol chuckled, “why are you getting flustered? I don’t bite!”
“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to,” you purse your lips.
“You’re a shy one, aren’t you? Don’t worry! I’m good at making people open up to me” he said as he placed an arm around your shoulder, to which you flinched at.
And Chanyeol was right, he was good at making people open up to him indeed. He made you feel at ease with his jokes, but more than that, you felt safe at how he doesn’t pressure you to talk about yourself, he just waits for you to willingly share things with him. He just keeps on going on and on about what he wants to say, but he listens attentively the second you open your lips to talk.
"Oh how I love animals so much! I have a dog, his name is Toben but he doesn't listen to me. So i kinda hate him" he said enthusiastically.
"I think I've seen you once with him, the black one?" you recalled.
"Yes that's him! I used to have a cat too but he ran away from home. His name was Bach"
"I actually have a hamster. Her name is Lilie. You should meet her she's a total fluff ball" you said as you took your phone out and show him a picture of your syrian hamster.
"Oh my god she's so cute!" his eyes grew wider than it originally is.
You chuckled, "You must really like pets that much."
"Oh trust me, I even brought a rat home. My mom scolded me so much," and it's you who has wide eyes now.
You grew close to Chanyeol in a span of a few days. You would walk to school and walk home together with him almost everyday. You learned a lot of things about him, while he was also able to slowly make you open up to him. The both of you would ramble about random things while doing homework or eating dinner at each other’s house, but he never crossed the borderline and asked you about your past. You couldn’t be more grateful that you found a friend like him. It’s the bare minimum, but it’s important to you and no one really does it like that anymore, not for you at least.
“What’s the square root of 441?” He asked, biting the tip of the pen he was holding.
“21, I think? Let me check,” you said as you took out the calculator in your backpack.
“It’s okay I got it aaaand— Wow! You’re right!” He jumped out of his seat and ruffled his fluffy brown hair in amusement. You chuckled and took a sip from the tea his mom made for you.
“You’re amazing, how do you know that? Did you just mentally solve that?” He sat back down again.
“Of course not. I liked maths so much as a kid, I memorized the perfect squares at some point.” you mumbled, redirecting your focus back to the homework in front of you.
“In many years of living, I never once met someone who memorized perfect squares” Chanyeol said as he held his face in his big hands.
“Now you did”
He chuckled, “Yeah, memorable. Anyway, are you free this friday?”
You bit your lip in sudden anxiety, “I-i don’t know. N-not sure. Why?”
“Some of our classmates are going to a party, and they invited me,” he hesitated a little before he continued, “I just wondered if you wanted to come? With me?”
You feel your heart beat faster, “No, sorry. I think I’ll be helping my dad on Friday.”
“Oh it’s okay. Don’t worry about it,” whispered Chanyeol, looking back down to his homework.
Friday came, and you thought it was weird to walk home alone for the first time. You got used to chatting with Chanyeol while on the way home, and now it was completely silent. When you got home, you threw yourself to your bed. You decided to get your laptop and binge watch another series on netflix.
It was around 7:30 pm when your phone rang. You looked at the caller ID and picked up hesitantly when you realized it was Chanyeol’s. “Why would he call so suddenly though?” you whispered to yourself.
“Chanyeol?” You said as you bring the phone up to your ear.
“hey Y/N! What’s up?” he chirped weirdly, probably drunk.
“Nothing much. Are you drunk?”
“I’m wasted. They tricked me, they said it was juice. They tricked me, y/n!” you cringed at how much he was slurring his words. It was obvious that alcohol was already in control of his system.
“How are you gonna get home?”
“I don’t know. Everyone is drunk here and–” he hiccuped, “they’re all nasty. I wanna go home”
You paused for a bit, checking the time on your laptop. “Turn on your location and stay there. I’ll pick you up”
Chanyeol nodded and hummed from the other line. You quickly ended the call to run to your closet to grab a jacket, and leave the house.
You didn’t know if you were dumb or stupid, but you were sure you were either.
Why would you suggest picking him up? From a house party? Which you avoided so much with all your might?
When you reached the house that showed up on Chanyeol’s location— which took you 30 minutes to find, you had to pat yourself on your shoulders and remind yourself that you were doing it for a friend, and if you were just gonna walk away, this friend might get in trouble. You inhaled deeply before entering, a pool of evidently alcohol intoxicated bodies welcoming you.
It took you only a few seconds to spot Chanyeol, the only giant in the room. But it took you a few minutes to get to him because as he said, the crowd was pretty nasty.
“Alright time to go home now big buddy, let’s go” you tapped Chanyeol on his forearms, bracing yourself in case he’d stumble and fall.
“Goodbye my friends!” Chanyeol screamed over the booming music from the speakers. “You’re leaving already?” a familiar voice replied, and you realized it was one of your classmates, Max.
You only nodded at him after flashing a small smile. “Are you seriously going Chan? It’s too early! We haven’t been to the fun part yet!” Max said before taking a sip of whatever alcohol from his red cup.
“What fun part? I think I’m just gonna go home, Max” Chanyeol replied, seemingly sobering up a little.
“Oh you know, the fun part! When all the chics get wasted!” your mind was getting hazy at what you heard, and you nearly lost your balance. Your grip on Chanyeol’s sweater got tighter, which made him look at you.
But he didn’t answer Max, instead he turned away. You took that as a signal to go. “Yeol, the door is this way” you told him as you tug on the sleeve of his sweater.
The walk back home was messy. Chanyeol was silent but he was walking in zig zags and you had to hold him up a couple of times because he would fall asleep while walking.
“Y/n?” you hummed in response.
“Nevermind” he replied. Honestly you were nervous, what did he want to say? Is something wrong? But you only let it go.
“Y/n.”
“Yes Yeol?”
He stopped walking, “Why don’t you ever tell me anything about you?”
“What do you m-mean? I tell you about myself too,” you managed to mumble out.
“No, you don't,” he said in a tone an octave lower.
You held onto his arm again and dragged him with you, “Yeol, you’re drunk let’s go now.” He allowed you to pull him and just walked along, still in zig zags.
When you were in front of his house you took your phone out to call his sister, to help you get him in. You helped him sit down on the chair outside while waiting for her to pick up.
“Y/n, you know I’m not one to pry, right?”
You looked at him in confusion, you slowly nodded. You waited for him to continue.
“But I really have to ask this,” he said as he played with the zipper of his backpack in his hands, not looking at you.
“What is it?” you shivered.
“By any chance, were you from Hyundai Highschool?” he finally looked at you, straight in your eyes.
You didn’t know what to do or what to feel. He was sober now, and you could tell he knew what he was talking about. Many questions were popping in your mind, yet your brain felt empty.  You weren’t able to form anything to say. You only backed away from him, and then ran away.
You went straight to your room, ignoring your father’s attempt to hug you. You fell to the floor the moment you closed the door.
Why did he ask you that?
How did he find out?
Were people talking about you at the party?
Did someone gaslight you at the party, again?
Will he judge you too?
You spent the whole weekend locking yourself up in your room, overthinking about the same things over and over again. You were almost sure someone told him from the party, and he will probably think differently about you now. But you are honestly hoping that he wouldn’t. He’s a good guy, isn’t he?
Monday came, and you were mentally preparing yourself to talk to Chanyeol while preparing your lunch box. You made sure to go out earlier than usual to wait for him so you could walk to school together, but to no avail. There was no sign of your giant friend going out of the house next to yours. You had to run to school or you would be late for the first period.
When you reached the classroom you looked around but Chanyeol wasn’t there. You caught your breath and sat down quietly on your seat. There was barely 2 minutes left before the first period, and you were worried for Chanyeol.
“Hey Y/n, where’s Chanyeol? You didn’t come together?” one of your classmates asked. You shook your head no, but suddenly the back door opened.
There he is
He took his seat in front of you but he didn’t spare you a smile, not even a glance.
The whole day went by with Chanyeol avoiding you and ignoring your attempts to talk to him. He looked at you at some point, but with sad eyes and a small smile. After that, you decided to give up and let him be.
You know—you think you do, why he was acting that way, and you don’t blame him for it. But you at least need to hear it from him, rather than assume things which could be entirely wrong.
You didn’t expect him to pull you to the school garden at dismissal, though.
“Y/n. I know I’ve been such a horrible friend today,” he paused. He looked down, avoiding your eyes.
“but I don’t think we should be friends.”

Only then he notices the car’s door open for him and Jongdae steps out after seeing him do so as well.
The night is dark and the drive to the condo Baekhyun knows from childhood’s something he rather not be doing. He likes even less since he had to cancel a date with you for this.
“Baek, no one likes to be called here”, Jongdae speaks up by his side, seeing his friend’s grumpy mood, “But we caused a mess in the organization. You think Mr. Kim would sit back and do nothing? Really?”
“His son caused this, not us.”
“You’re really going with that? Really?” Jongdae scoffs, “C’mon you’re smarter than this.”
With a brusque move, Baekhyun, who had been staring out the dark tinted car window, turns to look at his friend seated beside him.
“We’re doing everything better than before. The goods are much better than before, our business is secured, no rats, the cops are tamed. We fixed everything single thing” Baekhyun rants on, “If he wants to lose everything just he should just put that brat in his place and get over with it. He should see how many men will stay just for pure devotion to his family name and how many will waltz over to us.”
“Baek...”, Jongdae starts with a warning, “Promise me that even if Junmyeon provokes, you won’t pick a fight”, Baekhyun looks away, “Promise me!”
“Yeah, I guess”, Baekhyun careless answer with a wave of his hand has Jongdae sighing in frustration and worry.
When the car stops and the car’s doors are open for them, Baekhyun finds his other friends are there as well, waiting for him. Minseok seems worried and they greet each other briefly before walking down the path to the main door of the house.
“What is it?” Jongdae asks
“I don’t know” Minseok speaks up, “Everyone’s there”
“You mean..”
“Everyone, Baek.”
When the door opens Baekhyun walks in the house, sided by Minseok and Jongdae watchful eyes.
“My son!” Mr. Kim comes up to him with a proudful smile, extending his arms towards Baekhyun.
Jongdae and Minseok stop in place and Baekhyun is suspicious and much too aware of Suho’s burning glare directed to him. But, still he meets Mr. Kim where the old man stops and stay still as the man wraps an arm around his shoulders, bringing Baekhyun closer to him in a demonstration of affection and walking him deeper inside the house where the others were waiting, Jongade and Minseok followed short behind.
“I was worried you might not show up after all”
Baekhyun took the seat immediately at Mr. Kim’s right side. An honorable place that used to belong to the currently thumb-sucking Suho who’s sitting farther down the table.
⁎ ⁎ ⁎
You couldn’t help but smile when you saw Chanyeol waiting for you somewhere close to school just so the two of you could have some time to be together. Your friend excused herself and you enjoyed your time with him and this time you forgot to look at Baekhyun while Chanyeol took the time to sit on the desk beside yours to keep on the conversation, leaving only when the teacher arrived.
“They really look good together”, Baekhyun hears sees the boy sitting next to him pointing at you and Chanyeol, talking to his friend.
“I heard they’re going to college together,” the other replies.
“I wish I could get a girlfriend too~”
Baekhyun couldn’t avoid the bitterness that bit him right there. As if something bit him, stirring some kind of anger he didn’t mean to indulge. It wasn’t true anyway. Baekhyun knows you’re much too focused on something else. Dating isn’t something you’d want.
He saw Chanyeol looking at you during class, Baekhyun wishes he could tell Chanyeol to piss off, stay away from you, but… Between them, Chanyeol would be the right choice for you. That doesn’t make Baekhyun feel any better about it.
“But, when they started going out?” A girl asked another and Baekhyun just couldn’t ignore the conversation as he usually does.
“Remember when they arrived together when we visited that other city during the trip? I heard that was their first date”, the girls squeal.
“Chanyeol is perfect. Y/n’s so lucky!” The other replies and Baekhyun manages to ignore whatever nonsense they add after that.
Baekhyun doesn’t think Chanyeol is perfect, but better than him in some ways. At least, he doesn’t have a mafia association to consider when he’s with you. He’s the selfish bastard who put your life on the line just because he can’t let go, not just yet.
If he chooses to accept Mr. Kim’s proposal to take the seat as the second-in-command being with you would be impossible, if someone found out… Someone dangerous. Baekhyun knows how careless he’s being, Jongdae warned him again and again while he played innocent when he shouldn’t.
“The person you’re dating-”, Mr. Kim said the night before during a private conversation while they walked through the garden while Baekhyun kept his breath held in his throat.
It wasn’t a surprise Mr. Kim would know about you, but he was worried what the man would say next.
“For now, it’s an advice, son. I know you care about her”, Mr. Kim turned to look at Baekhyun and placed a hand on his shoulder, looking at his adopted son’s eyes meaningfully.
“You gotta make up your mind. You either make her yours or don’t let her be a way to get to you when things get ugly”, Mr. Kim squeezed Baekhyun’s shoulder tightly, “You might not see me as a father, specially after what happened to your mother, but think about what happened and ask yourself… Are you willing to let the same thing happen?”
The answer is easy. He would never let anything happen to you, it’s not that you’re a way to him, it’s the other way around. To get to you he’d stupid enough to put himself in the line, obviously that’s Mr. Kim’s biggest worry. Maybe he should let you be.
That was enough to stir him up some more and before the class was over, he dismissed himself. He found himself standing before the vending machine. The others had stepped aside for him while he just stood there, playing with the money in his hand. Classes were dismissed, he supposed to meet you now, at the usual place.
When he snapped to reality he got something he knows you like and something for himself before walking away. Deciding to put any of those thoughts aside, of course people would talk about you and Chanyeol, the two of you supposed to take care of the group during the trip.
“Hey! Hyung!” Sehun greeted his friend and Baekhyun stopped as the other jogged to him right wearing his PE uniform all sweaty and dirty, “Where are you going? Can we have lunch together? Can I have this?”
Sehun reaches for your favorite drink, but Baekhyun shoves his in Sehun’s hand instead.
“I have to meet someone now. Go take a bath, you’re really stinking”, Sehun looks disappointed at the drink in his hand and looks thoughtfully at Baekhyun.
“Can I come over to play later? Your TV’s better than the one in my room...”
Sehun’s voice fades out into the distance as Baekhyun listens to someone else talking. The boiling anger inside him reacted before he could stop himself. The voice of his classmate again, the same boy who sits next to him.
It’s maddening how his heart beats so hurtfully against his chest, scratching its way up his throat just so he can’t breathe. A high-pitched, deafening noise buzzes in his ear. It seems like reality has folded itself in two and he delved into the worse version of it.
‘No.’, the word is drawn in big, bold letters in his head even though his heart and his whole body shakes, his thoughts are certain and definitive, ‘No. It’s not true.’ Baekhyun tells himself, stating a simple fact. His mind is what stops him from letting himself be taken by that desperation that has already taken the rest of his body.
Baekhyun knows you better than any of these stupid kids, so of course they’re lying. Before he knows it, he’s gripping the kid by the collar of his uniform's shirt and pulling the scared kid up close to him. The hurt in his eyes is taken by anger, that’s it! The reason why he’s body is running wild in adrenaline right now is anger. His image, the image he’s been keeping just for the sake of you. That’s gone, he can’t remember how to act in any other way.
“Who the fuck you think you are?”, he growls on the kid’s face.
He knows everyone's gathering around him, his knuckles are white and he can see the kid’s face run pale and his eyes glazed with fear seeing the fearsome face the infamous Baekhyun twisted in anger directed at him like this. No one wants to get on Baekhyun’s bad side, never.
Sehun tries a step closer. “Stay away, Sehun”, his voice is enough to make the younger stop in his tracks and Baekhyun turns to his classmate again, “I said”, Baekhyun’s voice is low and dangerous, “—who the fuck you think you are?” His pale white teeth grinds and the boy gulps down.
“I– I’m– I’m sorry, Baekhyun! I meant it”, the voice of his classmates trembles in fear trying to find in Baekhyun’s eyes some forgiveness in the middle of all the wilderness that makes him so scary,
Sehun steps away and pulls his phone quickly, with his hands sweaty and unsteady is a hard task to make a simple call, Baekhyun’s hold gets dangerously tight around the younger boy’s throat, cutting his air supply.
“Speak properly!”
“I’m– sor—sorry–”
“You think I want your apology? You should apologize to Y/n not to me! Shit!”, the boy seemed to say something to set Baekhyun at some kind of peace, but bit his tongue, afraid, “Why did you say that about Y/n?”
“I didn’t I swe–”, before the boy could say much else he was stumbling back against the stairs behind him, he wouldn’t fall if Baekhyun didn’t push him again.
It’s not like the boy couldn’t fight for himself, it’s not how it looks like, but who would put up a fight against Baekhyun when everyone knew who he is and where he’s from?
“Cut the bullshit!”, the boy stood up again, slowly, carefully, head hanging low in hopes that would make Baekhyun stop coming for him, but couldn’t stop trembling and it only worsen when Baekhyun stepped closer to him, “Be honest! Try it again!”
“I heard about it when I walked in the school today–”, the boy starts carefully, holding himself together for any advance from Baekhyun, “—the others were talking about it, so I just–”
“So you just didn’t mind in spreading this bullshit too? I should break your–”
Sehun’s eyes grow two sizes the moment Baekhyun has his hand on his classmate, he can’t understand the reason why Baekhyun was making such a fuss because of something everyone already knew. Why does it matter if you’re dating Chanyeol? Everyone seemed to cheer for that, much like they would cheer for their favorite couple in a TV show.
“Baek, stop!” Jongdae is breathless as he runs to his best friend, Minseok reaches him first, pulling away from the other boy who could barely put up a fight.
“What are you doing?” Minseok asks and Baekhyun shakes him away from his body.
“It wasn’t me-”, the boy tries again, Eyes wide open, as Baekhyun jolts toward him again and Jongdae helps Minseok hold him back this time.
“That’s enough”, Jongdae says
“It wasn’t me, I swear!” The boy tries again and Minseok motions for the boy to just leave.
“Why does he care so much?” Someone whispers to another.
“It’s like a stalker. Really. Y/n should be careful.”
“Like a psycho or something.”
Jongdae disperses the crowd and orders one of the Baekhyun and the boy’s classmate to take him to the nurse.
“We should go home-”, Minseok tries to reason with Baekhyun, but he pushes Minseok away when he sees you somewhere in the crowd and feels the tint of shame inside of him, under all of that suppressed anger. He promised himself you wouldn’t see him like that again.
“Baekhyun!” You call after him even though there are some students in the corridor and, of course, they look, “Byun Baekhyun! Wait!”
He keeps walking fast and you have to run to catch up with him, but it’s not until the two of you are alone when he finds an empty classroom that he stops and drags you inside.
Baekhyun closes the door while you stand there, against the wall, not even knowing what to say anymore. You watch him stand before you and your eyes search for his, worried and hesitant as you see the anger dissipating.
Shame is the first thing that goes by when he turns to you, he never meant for you to see him like that. All that anger just… Seem to disappear now that he sees you here, all that restless feeling just simply goes away. He should’ve known better than this.
You work like magic, just being there with him is enough. He couldn’t bear the thought of Chanyeol. Even now thinking about it makes him hate the stupid guy who said it, the girls spreading rumors.
“Why did you do that? What if you get expelled?” Baekhyun chuckles and that smile that belongs only to him, sweet and mischievous, pulls the corner of his lips into a smile as well.
“Hey! You really think they’d do this? Did you forget who I am?” You click your tongue playfully, crossing your arms between the two of you
“You really think you’re unbeatable, don’t you?”
“Me? Y/n, that’s an old concept”, he wouldn’t remind you that you’ve managed to change that concept easily not too long ago.
The old Baekhyun wouldn’t really stand up for anyone who’s not part of his feared group of close friends. He pulls your arms free, his smile growing wider, not minding to smile openly at you anymore.
“Besides, how could I just let someone speak like that about you?”
“What were they saying anyway?”
Baekhyun chuckle, amused by the bitter thought. “They said you’re dating Chanyeol.”
Baekhyun leans against the wall behind him, pulling you along with him. He doesn’t know what or how you’d say and settle his feelings down, but the distant look in your eyes wasn’t a good start. Your expression changes and your smiles simply disappears from your lips, he could hear the echo of his heartbeat in drumming in his eyes as he saw you look down between the two of you.
You look everywhere but him and it’s almost like he knows what you gonna say. An invisible hand suddenly takes a firm hold on his heart, he can hear, but can feel how it struggles to beat. It’s suffocating.
“He... wasn’t lying, Baek.”, you look up and him carefully. Baekhyun focused on the way his heart seemed to beat as fast as it could just so it could free itself from the deadly grip.
A bitter, strangled laugh leaves Baekhyun’s lips and he leans his head against the wall. His empty laughter fills the empty room even though it’s not loud, Baekhyun closes his eyes and covers them with his hand as you step away from him. Tears sting painfully behind his eyelids and he can’t show them to you, he won’t.
He never felt so drained out of energy, so beat up and tired. Him, it had to be him. Chanyeol of all people. Him.
“I’m sorry”, Baekhyun chuckles at his own misery and tries not to think of how soothing your voice sounds.
The tone of assertiveness in the apology doesn’t seem like regret. Baekhyun knows regret and begging as most people would come out with in a moment like this. But, of course, you wouldn’t.
It’s the first time Baekhyun feels his heart being crushed, it’s worst than anything. He can’t compare with something, he just knows there’s nothing that could be any worst than this. Why does he have to love you so much? Why did let himself? Why didn’t he stop? But he knew from the beginning, didn’t he? All addiction end the same way.
Baekhyun swallows hard and feels his throat dry.
“Then?” He asks with his heart pounding painfully. It’s hurting, it hurts bad and he wants to hate you, to be utterly angry at you. Baekhyun wants to attatch himself to the tough that this is for the best. You’re safe with Chanyeol. With him, you could end up…
“I can’t let you go”
Your words doesn’t really get to him, they don’t add up as if they’ve been said in a foreign language. Slowly, with a frown so deep his eyebrows almost meet and tremble, working his brain around the meaning of them. Baekhyun opens his eyes, trying to see through the numbing pain and the remaining tears.
“What?” His voice is hoarse, but he didn’t cry.
“It’s not that I can’t decide”, you explain and thought your voice is not cold nor empty, it’s not the one he’s used to, because you’re holding back, “I just can’t let you go either. Not Chanyeol, nor you. I’m sorry.”
“So you want me? You still want me?” He shouldn’t be saying this, not like this with a pathetic happiness overlapping all the right feelings he should have right now. This pathetic Baekhyun happens to appear naturally before you.

broken | i
Tumblr media
genre: slice of life! AU, angst, fluff
pairing: park chanyeol x reader
word count: 3.5k
author’s note: dfskfhhfhsfh, I rewrote broken because I felt like I didn’t do my man enough good. There will be a part 2 of this so I hope you enjoy. Please do comment about what you think will happen or what you think I could do better! I love reading all of your feedback! Thank you :))
Your gentle footsteps were the only thing that echoed throughout the empty hallway as you made your way to God knows where. Well you knew where, anywhere but the empty and lifeless room that you were always locked up in. The incessant beeping from the machines surrounding you, drove you crazy and the steady dripping of the IV made you want to rip your hair out.
You had barely escaped when the nurse that usually came to monitor you had left for whatever emergency reason. It wouldn’t be long before you were noticed to be gone and taken back. However, you knew that this was a priceless moment, and you should treasure it as if it was gold. You should treasure it with your life because that means that maybe you can actually live your own.
You wanted to be able to escape this prison at least once, you wanted to at least live your life once. It was if you were a prisoner locked up behind bars, and yet you had done nothing wrong. You were not guilty, but you were still the accused. You had been here for most of your life and you wanted out. You wanted to escape from this hell that was your life. You wanted to escape and finally live the live that you never had. You wanted to do what everyone else did, what normal people did. There were so many things that you had never done that you wished to do.
You never had a childhood that everyone else at school talked about when you sat down at your usual table for lunch. You had never gone to your friend’s birthday party and eat cake until your stomach was about to burst. You had never broken your arm and cried for your mom. You had never learned to ride a bike on the streets of your neighborhood with your parents right behind you, making sure you were safe and screaming words of encouragement to get you going. You never had family game nights where laughter and happiness filled the air. You had never had a big Thanksgiving dinner where you saw your aunt’s neighbor’s boyfriend’s friend’s cousin’s niece’s best friend. You never got to go Black Friday shopping with your mother and had to regret it the next day after you came home with worn out feet. You had never done anything that a normal kid had done.
Why? Because apparently you weren’t a normal kid. Everyone around you had acted as if you were a fragile diamond, that if touched, would be shattered into thousands of tiny pieces, too small to even be picked up and glued back together. You were a someone that was different, not normal, and could never have a normal life. Just because of one thing. You didn’t even like mentioning it because even though you acknowledged it and knew it was the truth, the weight would come knocking you down even harder if you said it loud, because then, and only then, would be the time that you would have to accept the fact. The fact that you are going to die, and you didn’t have much time left.
You guessed that no one normal would know the real pain of being terminally ill. At least no one around you. Not many people knew the actual pain that you did. No one could connect with you, no one would be able to empathize with your once-in-a-lifetime situation.
With billions of other people in the world and statistics showing tens of thousands of people with the same illness as you, you had yet to cross amongst someone like yourself. Someone who was closed off from the world by their parents to be ‘protect from the harsh world,’ when the reality was that they were never protecting you, just making sure that you could never see the good in this world. Because then you would start to get greedy and ask for things that could never be obtained by someone like you. Not only was your physical health getting worse, but your mental health, from all the things you never experienced as a child, as a teenager, as a young adult, as a human.
The ever knowing fact that you were going to die in a few months had never helped your mental health as well. Oh how you wished all your problems would go away. Holed up in the mental ward and having multiple doctors and nurses swarm over you like bees in honey whenever one little thing goes wrong was too much. Having to be monitored over every little thing that occurs in your small and blank room when nothing ever really happened
It made you want to throw yourself of a cliff and scream from joy after finally being able to be free. Of finally being able to escape from this place. It made you want to throw a knife into every single one of their hearts, if that’s what it meant for them to stop treating you as someone different, as someone broken. You would do anything for everyone to stop looking at you with that look. They were all the same. None of them looked at you like an actual human being. None of them looked at you with actual emotions from the bottom of their heart. None of them looked at you as an equal, but instead you were a person lower then them. You were someone that they would pay no mind, only acting as if they cared, when in reality, they didn’t give a shit.
You looked at your barren feet as with each step they took, they made a small padding sound against the cold tile floor.
You wished that you could be as loud as just only your footsteps. Even if they were in small amount, they were still audible. People could still hear them. Unlike you. No one ever heard you, but then again, that is also partly your fault. You couldn’t only blame everyone around you for the way your living your life. It wasn’t only them, it was you also.
You weren’t a very extroverted person as a whole. Sure, when you got closer to someone, you became more comfortable with them and you could talk with them for hours on end. But you never could feel that connection that other people do. When you first meet a person, do you immediately think that that person is your best friend? Do most people just another person based on their looks? Their clothing? Their style? From what you have seen, this is true.
Society always said to never judge a book by its cover when in reality, that is human nature. That is just how we as humans behave. When we see a person, we immediately judge them, criticize them, and look at them a different way if they are a ‘type’ of person they wouldn’t like.
So when people saw you, they would think that you were some ill patient and that they should just feel sorry for whoever had to take care of you, they should feel pity for you because you weren’t normal. They should feel pity for you because you were sick. And all this time you never said anything about it. You never criticized them back, saying that their sense of fashion was horrible or if their shoes were fake. And that was a mistake.
Your life was the outcome of both you and the people around you’s fault. You couldn’t put the blame on just one person when in reality it took more then one head to actually do something, to actually make an impact, whether it be good or bad.
It was your own introverted self’s fault for not speaking up for yourself in the times when you needed it. It was your own fault when people judged you and walked away while you let them. You let them get away because of your cowardly thoughts. Because you were scared that they would put you in some place worse then the barren white walls surrounding you. This was the part that you mistook.
There couldn’t possibly be a place that is worse then here. There couldn’t possibly be a place like this, unless it was hell itself. A place where no good memories can occur. A place where you are trapped. A place where there is a ticking bomb right next to you, counting down the days until You day. A place where the only thing people wish for is one more day of life. A place where death is the norm.
Wouldn’t it be better for the universe to just let you die already? Haven’t they put you through enough misery for one person’s lifetime? You always wondered why the universe put you through this hell? Would you be rewarded in the next life? Could you have done many sins in your past life? Had one of your ancestors done an unforgiving deed saying that one of their predecessors would compensate? What did you do, to make you deserve a life like this?
What did you do, that made you different from everyone else? What did you do, to make yourself into someone so horrible? What did you do, to make your life torture, when all you wanted was a life filled with bliss and happiness? What did you do to make you deserve all of this?
You wanted to climb to the top of Mt. Everest and scream in the loudest voice possible, all your miseries, all your insecurities, all the people that had wronged you, all the things that went wrong in your life. Everything that occured that you wished you could change. Everything that had happened that you wished had never token place during your life. And finally, when everything had been lifted off your chest, and you could finally feel free, and for once in your lifetime, not have a single worry in the world, that would be when you took that glorious leap of faith, and finally spread your wings and fly.
Maybe you should take matters into your own, small and undeserving hands. Maybe you should actually take that leap of faith into a better world and hope for the best. Maybe then you could join the rest of your loved ones instead of suffering in this cruel, cruel world.
You were undeserving of this life, but maybe your next could turn out better. That is, if the superiors believed that they had tortured you enough. With everything that had been going on, you could probably be going directly to the Devil for the past sins that you have done, if you had done any at all that is, if this was all really your fault.
The world is a cruel place to live in. They could’ve just been doing that to play with you. As if you were their puppet to play with. As if your misery brought them happiness, brought them joy, brought them entertainment.
The mere thought of this made you fume. Who do they think they are? How high in power were they, for them to be doing this to you for this long and how did they have not even a shred of humanity in them? If they really made us, why torture some and give the rest a newly built playground for them to enjoy? Why discriminate some and favor others? What did those people have that we didn’t? What was so much better about them, that we were thrown to the side and stomped all over in return?
You just couldn’t wrap your mind around a reason, a reason as to why? It just didn’t make sense, why was your life like this? But then again, maybe it’s just because. Just because.
Your plain hospital gown brushed the sides of your thighs as you made your way down the hallway to Neverland. You let out a sigh of relief. You’ve gotten this far, maybe you could even get out of this hellhole. But you knew that you would eventually have to come back. If you didn’t, you could say goodbye to your life. But then again, that didn’t sound too bad.
However when you think it over, it didn’t sound like a good way to send yourself off. You would basically be torturing yourself to death. Suffocating yourself until you stop breathing, until your death. You would rather it be your own choice rather then not. You would rather it be over in a second then for it take it’s time. You didn’t want to torture yourself any longer. You’ve had enough of playing someone else’s games for a lifetime. You’ve had enough of that forever.
Your moments with only you and your thoughts had finally came to an end when a, let’s say, minor accident, occurred.
Both you and another person had collided into each other, sending you both tumbling to the floor and you wondering why can’t you ever pay attention to anything. Everywhere you went, you fell, you tripped, you stumbled, it made you seem even more pitiful. Why can’t you ever watch where your going?
A groan made its way out of your mouth as pain erupted through your left side. It felt as if you’ve been stabbed with a knife and then plowed over by a truck. Yes, it really did hurt that bad. Your head felt dizzy from the pain, but you endured it. This was nothing compared to all the shit you’ve been through before.
You clenched your teeth and shifted a little so your left side was not in contact with the cool floor. That side had had a surgery done on it a mere few weeks ago which resulted in throbbing type of pain when you weren’t even doing anything. It still hadn’t healed and you were sure that a few stitches might’ve reopened from your fall. You were about to accuse the person who made this happen to you, but immediately closed your mouth as another shot of pain made its way through your side.
You felt a hand on your shoulder for comfort and heard a muffled voice trying to talk to you while shaking you in attempt for you to stay conscious. You heard a few words and made out what he said, something along the lines of ‘are you okay?’
You might as well make them not worry. The last thing you needed for them to do was call a nurse after panicking. Without opening your eyes, you gave a small nod from the direction you heard the voice come from and attempted to get up from the ice cold of the floor that sent shivers up your spine, hoping that they had heard your unspoken message.
The lights above you blinded your sight and hindered your attempt. When you finally managed to crack your eyes open,  you caught a quick glimpse of the person kneeling in front of you with worry etched all over his face.
Your eyes widened when he scrambled up to his full height, and turned around searching for something, no someone, a nurse. You realized this as he was about to leave and made to tug on his hand with as much force as you could muster in your pained state.
If the nurses came to you because he called them, you would never be able to forgive him and your own self. This was the one chance you had to get a precious breath of air and it would all be taken away if even a peep came out of his mouth and attracted the attention of the staff who would be around. Your goal to get out of this damn hospital would be demolished in your heart, your mind your soul. You needed this, so you could pick up the courage to come back and face this misery all over again. You knew that you were slowly losing your mentality from being trapped from here, but a little time away wouldn’t hurt anyone. It was the best thing you could do for yourself and everyone else. You didn’t know exactly what you would do when you got out or where you would go, but it was obvious that it would be fine, as long as it was anywhere but here.
When you had caught his attention, you softly shook your head side to side, silently saying one thing, no. You didn’t want anymore of this. You didn’t want to deal with your life anymore. You didn’t want to go around carrying your burdens and showing them to the world. You didn’t want to bring anyone down with you. You didn’t want to struggle anymore. You just didn’t want to live. There was no point.
You tugged at his limp arms signaling for him to come down next to you. He questionably complied and knelt down on the stone cold floor next to you. You might as well tell one person where you were going, what you were going to do, you could maybe even ask him to help you, even if it would be in a little amount as you would be leaving anyway. You brought your face closer to his ear before whispering,
“Will you help me say goodbye?”
You retracted your body away from him and finally got a good look at whoever would hopefully get you out of here. You took in his face and realized that this man was beautiful. You shrank in comparison to this angel-like human being. He looked about your age with wide and bright eyes with irises that looked as warm as coffee on a Monday morning. Skin that was so smooth that you would love being able to draw random shapes along them for hours straight. Face so proportionate that it looked like it was taken straight out of your favorite comic book. Hair that looked so soft, you would want to run your fingers through it any time you had the chance. And his lips, his lips were a bright cherry pink that you would love to feel on your very own.
You quickly averted your eyes when you finally realized that you had been staring at him for a while now. You felt your cheeks burn up, and went to get up from your laying position on the floor.
The man looked shocked from what had happened and now you felt bad. Felt bad for asking him of this. Felt bad for bringing him into this mess, into your mess. However he quickly regained himself when he saw you move to get up from your previous position on the floor. He helped you with a supporting hand on your back and one on your arm as you got up and leaned against the wall in an attempt to catch your breath from this unexpected fall.
“What do you mean?” The man looked at your small form in question from your previous question. You made a quick glance at him and noticed the confusion written all over him, and sighed.
What made you do that? What made you say that to him? Now you had brought another person into your mess when that is exactly what you had wanted to avoid this whole time. You wanted to slap yourself for even talking to him and noticing him in the first place. You were an asshole for bringing another person into your mess that you called your life. And here you are now admiring his beauty, you didn’t have time for this type of stuff. Why? Because in the end, it didn’t matter. People like that would never want to hang out with someone like you.
In the end, just like old times, you would be left all alone.
“I’m sorry. Just forget what I said, yeah?” You voice was no louder then a whisper, but sill enough for him to hear as you turned around and made to walk towards the exit. Your small and naked feet padded their way down the rest of the hallway before stopping after feeling a hand settle on top of your shoulder. You felt the presence of him behind you as his breathing fanned into your neck and in the shell of your ear.
“You can’t say goodbye just yet.”
His words sent shivers rolling through your body as he retracted his warm hand, taking his weight off your shoulder before turning you around so you were face to face with him. The proximity between the two of you was too close for a first meeting, as you immediately shied away from his piercing gaze.
It felt as if he could read you as a whole just by looking into your eyes. You felt as if you were naked in front of him with everything in front of him to see. All he had to do was read them to know all of your deepest and darkest secrets. All the insecurities that you never wanted to be revealed to anyone. All your memories that left you with nightmares day in and day out. All your scars that you were ashamed of having from your monstrous life. Scars that you wished to forget and flush down the drain.
His eyes bored into your own, reading you like an open book as you wriggled underneath his sharp gaze, the only thing in your mind being escape from his everlasting hold.
“Not when you haven’t experienced the fun in life.”
His hold on you softened as he pulled you into his warm and comforting embrace. You stiffened not knowing what to make of this situation. Why was he hugging you? A stranger of all people. Why would a stranger want to comfort you, want to give you reasons to live, want to touch you in such an intimate manner?
“Its me, Chanyeol, Y/N.”
A memory erupted inside your head as you recalled a younger version of the man holding you. They had the same eyes, the same nose, the same lips, and you suddenly realized that this uncanny resemblance could not be possible.
He had put his hand out for you to shake with a crooked smile adorning his lips and said one sentence that had changed your life forever.
“I’m Chanyeol. It’s nice to meet you.”
But that Chanyeol died eight years ago in the same accident that killed your parents.
Who exactly was he?

a/n: bruh yall inspired me to writeeee so here you go! i love reading all of your messages omg they’re so funny and sweet! i hope you like this 🩷 thanks for all of the support
a ‘little while’ turns into 2 weeks. the school year begins within those 14 days, and you throw yourself into your courses, occupying your time with 1 credit classes so you don’t have time to think about anything other than graduating and your education. when you do have a moment to yourself and to think, you force yourself to think of everything but chanyeol. it’s hard, since nearly everything reminds you of him. you’ve thought about texting him but resisted, chickening out at the last second.
it’s a friday night and you have no set plans. seulgi is going out with her boyfriend, so you have the house to yourself and a movie queued up on your laptop. ideally, you’d have someone to spend this quiet friday night in with, but alas. you’ve been single before; you’ll survive a movie night alone.
looking through your cabinets, you sigh at the lack of snack options, and things you want to eat. it’s been awhile since you’ve been shopping, having gotten used to being around somebody who constantly cooked for you, or took you out to eat. it’s the little things about not being with chanyeol that you feel like you took for granted. in this case, it’s grocery shopping.
grabbing your keys and purse, you throw on a sweatshirt before heading out of your apartment and down to your car. you hop in and make the short drive down to the corner store.
a quick glance around the parking lot would’ve told you to stay in your car, but it slips your mind as you’re here for a snack run, not expecting to be here long.
you beeline for the chip aisle, grabbing a bag of chips for yourself and another bag for seulgi. you stay there for a second, scanning a few other options before feeling satisfied and going to the coolers. there, you grab an iced tea and a water before getting ready to close the door, but a voice makes you freeze and stiffen, the door stuck mid-swing in your palm.
“bro, stop fucking around,” you know that voice better than you know your own. you’ve dreamt about it constantly, wishing for it to call on you, to say sweet things to you, like it used to. but now, it’s not yours to even want in that way.
slamming the cooler door, you quickly spin on your heel, racing down the aisle, not paying attention to where you’re going, but knowing that you need to get out. but you slam into a hard body, nearly knocking you backwards. “holy shit!” the man says, quickly turning around and reaching out an arm to steady you. “are you okay?” he asks.
footsteps round the corner, curses flowing from the mouth that belongs to the one you want more than anything, more than these snacks in your arms. “what the fuck did you do now? sorry for my cousin, he’s an id-“ his voice cuts off when he gets closer, stopping a few feet behind jongin. you raise your head, your eyes zeroing in on chanyeol.
“it was my fault,” you mean to say it to jongin, to apologize for not paying attention, but you can’t rip your eyes away from chanyeol. but now you’re apologizing to, technically the wrong person, but they both deserve two different types of apologies. “i wasn’t thinking.” you say, wondering if he can read between the lines and take it as an apology for the end of your relationship.
“he’s an idiot,” chanyeol says, making jongin scoff. there’s that glimmer in his eyes, the one that doesn’t fail to make you smile every time, but now you hold it back. you almost forget jongins there, until he mutters that he’s going to leave you and chanyeol alone.
there’s an awkward silence before chanyeol takes a single step closer to you. “hey,” he says, offering you a small smile. your heart hammers wildly in your chest, feeling like it’s going to crack through your bones and beat right out of your chest. “how’ve you been?” he asks, his voice softer than usual.
“fine. and you?” it’s like making small talk with somebody in an elevator; it’s terrible. you want to scream and run out of here, but you’re rooted to the floor and don’t trust your legs. you wonder if he can see your trembling hands, or if the snacks in them are doing enough to obscure their shaking.
“i’m good!” he says, and he sounds like he means it. it breaks your heart again, because there’s been countless nights where you’ve lain awake with thoughts of him running through your mind. you’re not even to being ‘good’, barely surpassing being ‘fine’.
you mumble a ‘that’s good’, and he says he’s going to go find jongin. “it was nice seeing you, y/n,” and you could call to your knees in tears, because it’s the first time he’s said your name in 14 days and you miss how it sounds coming from him.
“you too,” you squeak. he glances down at your arms full of snacks and gives you a small smile. you’re about to return it until you glance down at his hands, and feel your blood run cold.
chanyeol follows your line of sight to his hands and tries to indiscreetly hide the box of condoms, but you’ve already seen them. he can feel his neck heating up and feels the need to explain himself, that no, he has no intentions of using them soon, but the words don’t find him. your throat burns and your eyes sting, but you manage to not any tears fall, or let your voice give way to what’s happening inside of you when you say, “i’m gonna go,” and speed walk away on shaky legs.
luckily for you, there’s nobody in line at the check. you throw your stuff down on the counter and glance over your shoulder to make sure you don’t see either chanyeol or jongin. you pay as quickly as you got in line, thank the cashier and grab your bag of stuff.
chanyeol and jongin are walking towards the checkout as you’re taking your stuff, and you practically sprint out with how fast you walk and the strides you take.
outside, your eyes come in direct contact with his black corvette and you scream internally, wondering how you missed it when it’s right there, practically in front of the doors and not too far from you own car.
you feel like some sick joke is being played on you, and you throw your stuff into the backseat before speeding out of the parking lot and down the road. you drive half a mile before your eyes start to well up with tears, and drive another 500 kilometers before turning on a random street and pulling over to bawl into your hands.
you allow yourself to let go, to let nasty, ugly sobs from feo within your chest escape. you shake against the steering wheel, wishing you never went out for food you have no appetite for anymore, so that you could avoid seeing him. by the looks of it, he’s truly no longer yours because the two of you rarely, if ever, used condoms. there’s somebody else who’s going to get to experience him in ways that you long for.
when you get back to your apartment, you forego your movie plans and instead text some friends and ask if they’re busy. they tell you they are, that they’re going out (like most people you know), and ask if you want to come. you don’t hesitate to say ‘yes’, and start getting ready. chanyeol isn’t going to ruin your night, and you’re not going to sit here and mope and be single.
nearly two hours later, you’re ready and your friends wait for you downstairs. you wear the littlest black dress you own, one that barely covers your ass and is backless. it’s cowl neck is low, showing a good amount of cleavage, and your heels are high. you don’t intend to go home with somebody, but you plan to get attention in whatever way it comes.
shortly after you get to the club, drinks are practically thrown your way. decent enough men buy you drinks, and in return get a bit of your conversation before you always dismiss yourself to your friends. every time a man comes up to you, you make a mental list of every way he is not chanyeol, comparing everything down to their finger nails. of course, no man is going to compare to him, at least for now, so you drink until you start to forget what he looks like with your eyes closed.
you do cut yourself off, though, not wanting to vomit all over everything and everybody in this club. you take a seat in your section and go on your phone, checking your instagram to see all the photos and videos you’ve been tagged in tonight. you repost all of them to you stories, smiling as you type out silly captions for all of them.
one of your friends comes over to you, drunk and slurring as she tells you to come dance. you abandon your phone and get into the circle with your friends, dancing sensually with whatever the DJ decides to play.
by the time you call it quits for the night, you’ve sobered up enough to make it safely into your apartment. you stumble down the hallway to your bedroom as quietly as you can walking in heels on wood floors, and fall onto your bed. you lie there for a moment before you remember to wake yourself up and at least take your shoes off so you can go to bed.
plugging your phone into the charger, you look at your screen and see you have an instagram dm from chanyeol. your stomach flips as you unlock your phone and click on the notification, biting your bottom lip.
he’s replied to a video on your story, one of you dancing. but you’re not dancing alone, you’re dancing on a man, his hands holding onto your hips and lower back as you throw your ass on him. you don’t remember doing this, and the man doesn’t look familiar but it definitely happened.
real_pcy: so this is what we’re doing now?
11:53pm
you: we’re not together.
1:31am
real_pcy: lmao alright.
1:35am
you wake up hours later with a raging headache, a terrible taste in your mouth, and the feeling that you did something bad. you pat the bed next to you to make sure there’s nobody there, and sigh in relief when it’s empty and just pillows.
you can barely remember anything that happened after you got in the uber to the club and before you got into your bed. you remember bits and pieces, but they’re muddled and incomplete.
a frown takes over your features as you try to remember, but nothing solid comes to mind. you glance over at your digital clock that reads 12:12pm, and sigh, sitting up and groaning when your head feels like somebody is stomping on it.
grabbing your phone, you gasp and let it slip out of your grasp. it’s a bad idea to scramble out of bed to get it, but you do anyway and pick it up from the floor. you frantically open it and go to your messages, expecting to see chanyeols name at the top, but you don’t. you frown again as you try to remember where you messaged him, or if you made it up.
an instagram notification pings on your phone like a lightbulb going off in your brain, and you bite the inside of your cheek as you check your dms. again, his account isn’t at the top, and your frown turns into a scowl. “what the fuck?” you mutter. you go to the search tab and type in his username. it pops up, but when you click on it, it says ‘follow’, rather than ‘following’ like it should.
your brain rolls around in your skull as you realize what’s happened, what he’s done. even during your little break, you guys remained mutuals on social media. of course, you never messaged each other, but no blocking transpired. clearly, he made the first move and removed you from his account entirely, making you an outsider.
you decide to do one better, and block him completely. you block him everywhere else, but hesitaste on his number. that’s different, feels more personal. you still want him to have access to you and vice versa, assuming he didn’t block you first.
backing out of his contact, you leave his number untouched and sigh. if you thought it was over before, it truly is now.
fourteen days turns into twenty-six, but you’re not counting. it’s been school, school, school, for you, and if you’re not on campus then you’re most likely asleep, unless it’s the weekend. you find things to occupy your two days off, like doing things with seulgi when she’s not with her boyfriend, or taking yourself out. you’ve been getting your hair done lately, wanting to change something in your control.
you drain the last of your coffee and rinse out the mug in the sink. an unfolded bag of laundry waits to be put away, on the couch, and you saunter over to it and pick it up and take it to your room.
you dump the bag onto your bed and start separating your clothes into piles. you get into a zone until you pick up a tshirt that is far too big and not yours, and purse your lips. you toss it into its own pile and search for the rest of the clothes in the pile that belong to him, which is a lot more than you care to admit.
folding everything neatly, you snap a picture and open your messages with him. your stomach roils at the thought of texting him, your last messages being nearly a month ago, from the night you ruined everything.
you chew on your bottom lip for a while before saying ‘fuck it’ and sending him the picture of his folded clothes and a message.
yn: hey these are yours. can i drop them off later?
chanyeol: yep. i can give you your things too. does 4 work?
yn: yes
chanyeol: see you later
you blow out a breath. you didn’t think he would respond so quickly and be so complying. had it been the other way around, you would’ve hoped he’d ship you your stuff in the mail so you didn’t have to deal with him. but now you have 6 hours to stress about seeing him since that fateful day at the drug store.
and those six hours roll around quickly, so quickly that you’ve changed your outfit twice, unsure of what you should look like when you see him. you decide on jeans and black cropped tshirt, and some sneakers. you figure it’s a regular enough outfit, and stuff his clothes into a tote bag before leaving your room.
“i’ll be back,” you say to seulgi, who sits on the couch, painting her nails. she looks up and waves, her eyes traveling to the full bag in your hands. “dropping off some stuff to chanyeol.” you clarify.
she raises an eyebrow. “you’re dropping off stuff?” she questions. you nod and her eyebrow manages to go up higher. “you sure that’s all?” she says, almost like she can see right through you, and the fact that you put on a matching set underneath your clothes—just in case.
“and i’m picking up my stuff,” you manage, swallowing the lump in your throat.
“do you plan to go inside?” she asks, and you hate this interrogation, but she’s seen you mope for nearly a month over him. you shrug and she sighs, going back to her nails. “just be… careful. i’ll call if i get worried, you know.”
you smile a small smile at her words. “i know. bye,” you leave after that and head down to you car. you take a deep breath before you put the key in the ignition, feeling many things at once. your stomach flips wildly and your hands are clammy at the mere thought of going to his house to see him.
you drive too fast for somebody who is supposedly just going to drop off items to their ex. you really shouldn’t be this… energized at seeing him, since you two didn’t exactly end on good terms. you told him to get out the first time and the second time you solidified that you’re both single. sometimes you wish you could bite your tongue more.
his neighborhood comes into view quickly, and when you hook the left onto his street your heart leaps into your throat. you drive slow down to his house and parallel park you car on the curb in front of his mailbox. this is one of the few times you’ve been here alone to see him, your toyota looking out of place in a neighborhood where the average car owned is a mercedes.
getting out, you grabs the bag of clothes and hold it tightly in your hands, taking ginger steps up his driveway to his door. you suck in a breath when you knock three times, and clutch the bag to your midsection.
the door swings open and you feel your knees buckle when you see chanyeol. mild shock passes on his face like he forgot you were coming over, and then he checks his watch. “hey, sorry i lost track of time,” he says, awkwardly standing in the door way. he looks at you, eyes quickly giving you a once over before they land on the bag in your hands. “shit, let me grab your stuff. do you want to come in?” he asks, already moving out of the way before you have the chance to respond.
your feet take you into his house before your brain can process what’s really happening. “i’ll be right back,” he says, jogging up his stairs while you stay in place in the corridor. you peek your head out to look in the living room to note any major changes and see one. you feel like there may be something different about his kitchen, but he’s already bounding back down the stairs when you think about looking. “here you go.” he says, extending the clothes to you.
you pull open the tote bag and try to grab his clothes, but the bag isn’t wide enough so they fall back in, most of them unfolding. chanyeol takes the bag from you and holds it open so you can grab them easily. it’s not even been 5 minutes, and you’re already embarrassing yourself.
“sorry,” you cringe when you hand him his unfolded clothes before you put your own in the bag.
chanyeol gives you a small, reassuring smile that makes your pulse skyrocket and you avert your eyes. “it’s fine,” he says but it only makes you flush more. “how are you? how’s school?” he asks.
“uh, fine and fine. i’m taking bullshit classes for the credit, so,” you say, shrugging. “you?”
chanyeol shrugs too, a small smile still on his face. “same old stuff; i’m helping kai produce some songs, getting sehun in the studio more now,” he says. you nod awkwardly look around, not really knowing what to say. chanyeol leans against the wall and slots his clothes underneath his armpit and presses it to his side so they don’t fall. “you seeing anybody?” he asks suddenly, making your eyes snap up to him, narrowing immediately.
“is that really any of your business?” you question, defense all in your voice. chanyeol shrugs, as it to say ‘i’m just asking’. “we’re not together.”
“obviously not,” he laughs, but he doesn’t find it funny. it actually makes him mildly sick to be reminded of it, for it to be said out loud by you of all people, because he had every intention of coming back to you until you seemingly called it quits for good. “but i saw that video.” chanyeol adds, his tone more serious.
“and i saw you buying condoms,” you counter, crossing your arms over your chest.
“okay, but you’ve never danced with me like that,” he says, a hint of jealousy in his voice that you are definitely not imagining. you scoff at his words and shake your head.
“we’ve never gone out together, and the one time we happened to be out at the same time, we’d just met and then fucked in your car.”
chanyeol gives you a look that makes your face fall, one that makes you want to ball your hands into fists. he rubs underneath his lip and glances down at his feet. “what?” you ask, daring him to say what’s on his mind.
“nothing,” he says, brushing you off. you stare at him for a moment, waiting for him to look at you but he doesn’t.
“i’m not like that,” you say, frowning.
“i know,” he lifts his eyes to you and your draw your bottom lip in. it’s gets silent again, and you wonder if this is a good moment for you to make your escape, but you don’t really want to.
“are you seeing anybody?”
“no,” his response sounds honest, but you don’t completely believe it because of what you saw.
“i saw you buying condoms, chanyeol,” you say, pressing your lips together. he rolls his eyes and runs a hand through his hair.
“yeah, because i plan to practice safe sex in the future, y/n—whether that’s with you, or with somebody else,” your cheeks flush at his words and a knot forms in your stomach. you don’t know whether to be semi flattered, or gutted knowing that there will be others after you, like there were before you.
“well, we’re not having sex,” you declare, and chanyeol shrugs.
“that’s fine.”
it’s fine, but somehow you end up face-down-ass-up on his bed, his palm pressing on your tailbone to give you a deeper arch as he pounds into you. with every thrust into you, a desperate mewl leaves your mouth.
chanyeol has a right grip on your hips to keep you in place every time you try to run away from him. he yanks you back and tells you to stay with him, to take it because he knows you can, and you’re not used to me anymore? you only cry out his name in response, tears prickling in your eyes.
“fuck,” he spits when his shirt keeps getting in the way of seeing where you to connect, whenever he pushes into to you. his momentum barely falters as he puts the hem in between his teeth to keep the material out of the way. both of you aren’t even fully undressed, that’s how rushed it was; you’re still in your top and thong, the tiny material being pushed aside so he can enter you, and him his tshirt. it’s the first time—other than the night you met—that neither of you are fully bare, and you can’t tell if that’s a sign that he doesn’t deem you worthy of getting undressed, or if it’s a sign that you’re about to start over.
it’s also one of the few times he’s started with doggy first. chanyeol alwyas liked to look at you; always liked you on top of him or under him, but he liked to see your face the most. you don’t know if it’s a slight that he has you turned away from him, or if he just wanted to watch your ass move.
“ch-chanyeol—fuck!” tears stream down your cheeks and you grip the sheets tightly, trying to pull your body away from him but he yanks you back in place. you cry out his name and hate how desperate you sound, like you’ve never been fucked a day in your life. you bury your face into a pillow, but he rips that away from you too.
“wan’ hear you,” he mumbles, continuing to slam into you. you can only curse and clench around him in response, the knot in your stomach getting tighter and tighter as he goes on with his mission to touch your spleen (at least that’s what it feels like).
“g-gonna c-cum,” you hiccup, whining out his name when he snakes an arm around your front and starts flicking on your clit. the stimulation makes you clench your eyes shut and tense around him, gasping before crying out his name as you gush all over him.
you expect him to stop, but he fucks you through it, never stopping his ministrations on your clit. “please, yeol!” you beg, feeling your legs start to shake as another wave of deep pleasure comes over you.
“you can do it, baby,” he grunts, running a hand up your back before gently pressing down on your spine. the pet name makes you whine dramatically and release once again, white liquid running down your thighs.
he finally pulls out when you beg him again, feeling too hot and overstimulated. you crumple onto the bed and roll onto your back, trying to regain your breath. you hear chanyeol shift next to you and then he taps you on the knee. “you alright?” he asks.
“give me a minute,” you croak, licking your dry lips. your body feels like you’re running a fever, and you sit up to pull off your top before flopping back down.
chanyeol gives you a literal minute before tapping you again. “are you gonna be okay?”
“yes, i’m just so fucking hot right now,” you say, blowing air into your face.
“you wanna take a break?” he asks and you crack an eye open to look at him. his shirt is off and his dick is still hard in the condom. you take his comment as a challenge, being that he’s never asked if you’ve needed a break before. maybe he thinks you can’t handle it and have gone soft on him, but you’ll show him otherwise.
“no. come here,” you say with authority. he obliged and crawls on top of you. you pull him down to your mouth and make out with him, hooking a leg over his back. chanyeol kisses down your jaw and to your neck before kissing down through the valley of your breasts. he pulls back and looks down at you, pulling at your bra strap and letting it snap back against you.
“you’re matching,” he comments, glancing down at your underwear. busted.
“so?” you say, reaching for him.
“you said we weren’t having sex,” chanyeol points out, making you let out an exasperated sigh paired with an eye roll. “you wore a thong.”
“i always wear thongs.”
“and we always fuck.”
you roll your eyes again and sit up to take your bra off, tossing it close to his head on purpose. “just shut up and fuck me,” you say, pushing down your underwear. chanyeol pulls it down the rest of the way for you and wastes no more time positioning himself in between your legs.
“y/n,” he groans when he pushes in, tossing his head back. you mouth falls open and you let out s few breathless pants. “shit.” he grunts, looking down at you with furrowed eyebrows. you can only stare up at him with wide eyes, clenching right around him like he didn’t just fuck you so hard you felt like you needed an ice bath to recover.
chanyeol pulls in and out of you slowly, trying to hold back from coming too soon. you can see it in his face, the concentration, and it clicks for you. he can’t handle looking at you while he fucks you because he’ll finish too fast. your sex in the past was never quick, but the effort of restraint he’s putting in is something you haven’t seen.
“y-yeol,” you moan, putting a hand on the back of his neck and pulling him down for a kiss. but he just presses against your lips, his breath fanning your mouth. “faster.” you mumble, tangling a hand in his hair.
he whimpers and pushes himself up on his arms and speeds up just enough to keep himself under control, but you still want more. “more,” you urge, wanting to watch him fall apart because of you, even if you don’t get off before or with him.
“baby,” he groans, squeezing his eyes shut as he gives you what you ask for. your cry out his name and part your legs wider for him. you lift one onto his shoulder and hook it around the nape of his neck to pull him closer to you, a grunt leaving his lips. “y-y/n, im c-close,” he whimpers, holding onto your thigh that rests near his head.
“yeolie, you feel so good,” you manage, grabbing a handful of the sheets. his hips stutter and he lets out a groan before he cums, his muscles flexing.
you almost smile as he falls apart on top of you, especially knowing that it took looking at you to get there faster.
chanyeol pulls out of you and drops down onto the bed next to you. his chest heaves up and down rapidly and you push hair back from his forehead. “you didn’t come,” he mumbles, reaching out and putting a hand on your stomach.
“no,” you admit. ever the gentleman, he gets up and discards the condom before settling his face in between your legs to return the favor.
after what feels like an eternity, you two decide to give it a rest. “shower?” he asks you, sitting up on the bed. you nod, your inner thighs sticky from all of your shenanigans.
you follow chanyeol to the bathroom on shaky legs and latch yourself onto him once you’re under the water. your arms wrap around his middle and you rest your head against his chest, sighing into him. chanyeol places a kiss on your forehead and you nearly whimper, missing the domesticity of it all.
you two wash up and then he gives you some of his clothes to wear. you smile to yourself at him knowing that you weren’t going to leave so soon. he tells you he’s going to order takeout, since he doesn’t feel like cooking, and passes you his phone to choose what you want to eat.
it’s easy to fall into that old rhythm like no time has passed, and like you didn’t let this whole thing crumble right before you.
while you wait for the food, you ride him on the couch, and then after you eat he fucks you lazily on the counter. your body feels beat up and tired in the best way, and the familiar limp you start to walk with feels good again.
you wake up to the smell of food, your limbs sore as you stretch. the bed is empty next to you, and it takes you a moment to realize that this isn’t your bed or your house. the realization makes you bite your lip, and you slip out of his bed and make your way downstairs.
“good morning,” he greets when you walk into the kitchen, a smile on his face. you return it and he pulls you into him, placing a kiss on your lips that leaves you feeling dizzy and slightly confused, but you don’t say anything. instead, you accept the plate of food he hands you and go sit down at the table.
chanyeol sits down beside you and pulls your legs across his lap, and your fork stills in midair. it’s all overwhelmingly familiar, and you still have yet to discuss where your relationship stands after last night. it wasn’t just sex for you—it never is with chanyeol—and you don’t know if he feels the same way.
you let him talk through breakfast, your mind swimming with thoughts that wonder what this all means. you don’t know if he was just testing you out again, but you don’t think he’d allow you to sleep over, and then cook you breakfast in the morning. you feel lightheaded, like you just got flipped upside down one too many times.
“you alright? what’s on your mind?” his voice takes you out of your head where you feel yourself drowning. he raises his eyebrows at you and you wave your hands in the air vaguely.
“just… thinking,” you try.
“about?”
you let out a breath and scratch the back of your head, pulling your gaze away from him. “um, us,” you say. chanyeol sits back in his seat and clears his throat. “i dont… what does this mean for us? what are we?” you ask helplessy, finally looking at him. chanyeol opens his mouth but closes it almost as quickly.
“i dont know,” he answers. you slump in your chair because you have no idea either.
“well, what do you want?”
you can see the gears turning in his brain and him weighing each response. the tension builds in the room as you stare at him, waiting for his answer to see if it’ll align with yours. “well… i dont really know if i want a relationship right now,” your stomach drops and you blink once, twice. “i like what we did last night, though.” and without actually saying it, he wants you two to be friends with benefits. he wants you, but not all of the extra baggage.
“okay,” you say, discreetly wiping your face and swiping away the tears pooling in your eyes.
“yeah?” he asks, and you nod even though it’s far from what you want. you just want him, and you’ll take what you can get.
you hold back tears as he fucks you on his bed again, but not because it feels so good and like too much at the same time, but because he’s stomping on your heart and doesn’t even realize it. your heart can’t handle a FWBs situation with him since you’re already way into deep with him.
it becomes too much as you think about it, your mind not in the present moment of him thrusting into you. the tears start to fall, one by one, until you’re full on sobbing and covering your face. “w-what’s wrong? am i hurting you?”
“yes!” you cry, and he immediately gets off of you. you roll away from him and curl yourself into a ball, feeling disgusted with yourself that you were willing to let him use you in such a way, dangling your heart on a string in front of you.
“y/n, talk to me,” chanyeol says, putting a hand on your shoulder. you shrug him off like you did during your initial break up, and he feels like he’s getting deja vu again. “please, y/n. talk to me, tell me what’s wrong.” his voice is full of concern because he knows there’s something else that’s really upsetting you.
“i cant do it,” you know you’ll probably lose him for good, but you’re willing to take that risk if you can’t have him the way that you want. you want him next to you in the mornings and calling you in the middle of his day. you don’t want to be a late night though, a booty call, to him. “i just can’t do it.”
chanyeol knows that you’re talking about your little agreement. he knew you’d end up backing out at some point, because he himself can’t even take it that seriously. he knows he’ll just wind up with feelings for you again since they never left.
“that’s okay,” he says, and he means it. your heart is heavy as you sit up and look over at him. chanyeols heart breaks to pieces when he looks into your eyes, feeling guilty for what he’s done. if only he could just confess and be honest about his feelings this time.
your goodbye is quiet and awful, and you feel like digging a hole and putting yourself in it the entire time. you leave feeling empty and hollow, and like you just got ran over by an eighteen wheeler. but hey, at least it wasn’t your fault this time.

EPILOGUE:
06.12.17
The slick heat of June was sweltering and unforgiving. Sweat pooled at the skin dipping at the base of your spine and slipped down your temples like a marble on gloss. Your face was blanketed in a thick layer of the muggy summer air and you could feel the redness flush against your skin. You could’ve sworn if you’d have had sleeves on your shirt you would have died of a heatstroke or dehydration, eyebrows taught in between your eyes as you watched your husband carry boxes through the door of the home. It was big, bigger than you knew you needed but as spacious as Chanyeol insisted on having it.
“It’s our first home,” he would drawl, “but it’s also our last. And believe me when I say I’m hellbent on populating just about every spare bedroom.”
You slapped his shoulder at his suggestive tone, pretending you didn’t see the way his eyebrow quirked as he slid his arm around your back and pulled you into him. You couldn’t snuggle into him like you wanted, couldn’t feel your chest flush against his own as you listened to his heartbeat. Because there was a stomach separating you two so full of life it felt as if it would burst if a tac pricked it and prohibited the kind of physicality he tugged you into his arms to receive.
And faster than when you were in his arms you were out, his scorched skin making the sun beating down on your unbearable. You loved him, and you loved the little girl growing inside of you, but not even his tensed, sweat covered arms could induce you into staying in his hold when the air surrounding you was threatening your every breath.
“I don’t know how many times I’m going to want to feel like this,” you said cautiously, ghosting the skin splayed across the underside of your stomach and smiling ever so gently at the feeling of a tiny foot kicking back at you. “Still inside of me and she already has your attitude.”
Once again he laughed. Once again, the angels looked down upon you in envy and greed at the sound that left Park Chanyeol’s lips, and you hoped to everything that was in power that the baby inside of you would laugh just like her daddy. In a world where you existed, in a world where Park Chanyeol so gracefully lived, anything like him was a blessing. Especially something that was lucky enough to take half of his DNA.
“I always had attitude inside of you, too.”
You smacked his shoulder and the sound echoed across the vacant neighborhood, Chanyeol’s irises hiding from you as his eyelids squeezed shut. He was the embodiment of laughter; his entire body was taken up of the actions of his happiness and you were left to stand back and watch as he let the waves of glee subside in his core. It would take him awhile, which you knew as you shifted from foot to foot–he was your happy virus, after all.
The inside of the house looked just as suburban as the outside: freshly applied wallpaper plastered with tiny white shapes against a cream background, crisp white borders lining the floorboards, cherry red wood beneath your feet and a beautiful engraved staircase to match. It was quite literally the Home of All Homes, and the moment your feet touched the entrance of the door your heart bloomed wildly in your chest.
You would make a home here.
You would have a family here.
The smell of rot from your insides had dissipated, long gone and in its place harboring a dozen roses, each hand picked by Chanyeol himself. You had finally, finally, found a way to forgive. Forgive Chanyeol, forgive yourself, forgive the absences he left in his wake and the bruises he left behind on your heart. Forget you would never do. Never would the sting of his neglect fully subside from your core, never would the stains from the tears that plagued your cheeks ever really go away. You would likely always see yourself when you looked in the mirror at least faintly the way you did on the days you felt as if you were nothing. Only now as you looked at the very same person in the mirror of your first home, there was something inside of you that proved otherwise.
“You know…” Chanyeol called from some distant room in the house. You ignored him the first time, turning from side to side to see just how far your skin had managed to stretch to accommodate an entire baby to fit inside of it. Your entire life you’d wondered what it would be like, craved the feeling of dependence and yearned for the feeling of love and complete and utter devotion in the hands of another person, and here you had it, in the world’s tiniest palms. He came up behind you and watched you fondly in the mirror as you palmed your stomach. “We haven’t picked out which room we want the nursery to be.”
You looked between him and your stomach, let your eyes glaze over at the thought of Chanyeol putting your daughter down to sleep in the crib you picked out, in the room you decided on, with the man you loved. It was easy to imagine a life with Chanyeol; it was all you ever wanted. Him, a home with him, a family with him. Even in the past, when the family aspect seemed that it would never come true in the empty shell of your life, he was what you dreamt of.
A small home, dusted in specks of dirt and debris from the previous owners, hardwood floors echoing your footsteps into the wallpaper and light fixtures exposing the shadows of each room. You let a sigh escape your lips as you walked through the threshold, flesh goosebumping at the air conditioning that kissed across your scorched flesh. Wishfully, longingly, you rubbed at your swollen stomach, your palms encasing your skin not even enough to make a difference; your belly protruded so far from your clothing it was hard to find a shirt that reached the hem of your pants.
Chanyeol, of course, mocked you about the ill-fitting attire you’d chosen to wear that day. Your breasts spilled out of the collar like a broken dam, your stomach lingering beneath the bottom and peaking out as if your child was trying to break free from its constraints. It was out of love, always, and was always accompanied with loving touches and ghostly kisses across the crown of your head. Because even eight months into your pregnancy, even when your feet fit in nothing but sandals and your back ached so unceremoniously you had to sit down only minutes after walking into your new home, Chanyeol was certain you called down the angels with nothing but yourself.
He definitely took it upon himself to make sure you knew this, also. Day in and day out he would shower you, nearly to the point of annoyance, with affection and compliments. On the days you felt like you’d rather rip your hair off of your head than deal with it falling into your face as you walked, he would help you by braiding it behind your head–even if it looked completely awful. On the days you would start crying because you couldn’t button your jeans, Chanyeol would offer you a pair of his comfiest pants and rub your stomach until you fell into a nap. And on the days when your face would flush red with rage at the stupid jar of pickles that won’t fucking open no matter how hard I try, Chanyeol would pull you into his chest and kiss your anger away–only after successfully opening the jar and making sure you got as many pickles as you wanted.
It seemed as if it was meant to be the moment you walked into the small room. Small was surely an overstatement, this you knew, but it felt quaint. Like a perfect room to sing your child to sleep in, like the room you could imagine your baby girl growing in. You couldn’t help but envision the crib pressed into the corner, the dresser decorated in little flowers beside it, the little changing table tucked safely into the wall and the closet parted open to reveal her dizzying array of clothing. Most of all, you could imagine a little Chanyeol, a little girl with big cheeks and big ears poking her head from the railing of her crib and motioning grabby hands to be lifted by her double.
And so you started crying, and tears rushed down your face like hot water from a shower, and your palm clamped over your mouth as your back shook softly with the sobs that wracked your body. You could see Chanyeol confused beside you, see the way he pulled you into his chest without questioning the trigger of your tears and rubbing circles into your lower back.
“Baby, don’t cry.”
You shook your head, your mouth lined with spit and your nose running fervently. “They’re not sad tears,” you hiccuped, “I’m so happy. So unbelievably happy,” you sucked in a breath, looking up at Chanyeol through tear-soaked eyelashes, “I love you.”
He smiled, teeth out and shining down on you like the sun in the sky, and brought his hand up to cup your face. You took note of the way the corners of his eyes wrinkled ever so slightly, the tear of his age showing on his face only barely, but enough for you to notice–enough for you to love them. “I love you too.”
He leaned down and kissed you, as he had at least a thousand times before, and it still left you throttled and dizzy. Still left you on a high from the caress of his mouth and still sent a spark of electricity down your core. It didn’t matter how many days you’d spent with Chanyeol, would never matter how many times you woke up to him or how many times his skin brushed against yours: the love for him was undying, unremarkable, and irrevocably vocal. It triggered something in you that you’d never felt before, never wanted to feel with anyone else, and hoped would never fade away.
“She’s going to look just like you, Yeol.”
Of course he went on a spiel about how uncanny the resemblance between you and your daughter would be, especially making sure to detail the small mentions of you that he was so desperately in love with, but it only furthered your case. The longer he spoke, the longer he flooded love and passion into your ears, the more you absorbed his features; they were strong and striking, overwhelming in beauty and overflowing with pride. The sharp arch of his eyebrows, the rounded slope of his nose, the doe-like curve of his almond eyes, the way his lips dipped like the moon drizzled in honey. Her skin, your child’s skin, would be absolutely gorgeous, the blend of your own harmonizing with his bringing the angels down to your birth just to witness another cherub born.
And so you vocalized this to him, poured your thoughts into his brain and let them rest over him like a blanket of thick warmth. He loved to hear it, loved to think of the way he would rock his daughter in his arms as he cooed her back to sleep. He wanted nothing more than to have a family with you, a big bustling family that would require no less than a minivan to carry all of you from destination A to B. A family larger than life, one that people would groan at when they all walked into a crowded grocery store two hours before Thanksgiving dinner to pick up the turkey they forgot about.
That’s exactly what he wanted–one of those annoying, ridiculously big families who loved each other more than anything else in the world.
With nobody else but you.
Of course, you were prepared to give this to him. Prepared to have that life with him, prepared to fill just about every room in your home with mini versions of the man you loved. Because the one already living inside of you, the baby already bruising your ribs when you laughed and pushing down on your bladder so heavily you were seconds from peeing at all moments of the day, was one that you were already helplessly in love with.
Standing in his arms you couldn’t forget the way you lived without his touch for so long. Never, even if you tried, could you remember the cold sting of your phone when you would touch it, lift it to your line of vision to find not a single notification from him. Not in your entire marriage, no matter how many times Chanyeol made up for it, would you be able to sew shut the wound that was ripped open so many times. It was like you had a thick, protruding scar along the front of your chest and it was so ugly you couldn’t cover it with makeup. Even the times Chanyeol kissed it tenderly, made love to you and your body as if it was the last thing he’d ever do, it would remain, dark and brooding and a constant reminder of the things you had to do to get to where you were today.
And so your relationship would never be perfect. It would never be that fairytale you foolishly imagined on that Christmas years ago. It would never be the life you imagined as a young girl, never the white picket fence of perfection that every movie and TV show promised you. Never would it be the way you could say you’d loved Chanyeol every second you’d known him–that would have been a lie. Because of course, there was a time where you were seconds from leaving him. Where you were sure it was your breaking point, that you had been neglected too long, pushed too far passed the brink of shattering leaving you wholly ready to break free.
But you came back from it, throttled and wrung out like a washcloth. Because he came back, and he promised he would never leave again.
And he didn’t.
He began working from home, his business trips rare and very uncommon, most of the time the freedom of you tagging along being more than enough to keep you sated and whole.
So of course the room nestled just across from the master bedroom was a perfect fit. Of course it was effortless to imagine a night, a dark, brooding night overflowing with exhaustion and complete and utter frustration, and the sound of your daughter calling out for her dad with grabby hands towards the sky shining light in the caverns of your chest. Of course the room adjacent to the one you would exist wholly in would make a perfect nest for your baby bird, a comforting and plush distance that would allow you to never feel distanced from either of the loves of your lives.
“She’s not gonna get much use out of it,” Chanyeol began, dusting his fingers along the wallpaper and looking around the room longingly, “she’ll be tucked in bed next to us for as long as she can fit.”
“A cuddler,” you crooned, lips tugging upwards, “just like you.”
“I’m not the self proclaimed cuddler of this marriage.”
“Chanyeol, baby…” Your arms outstretched to him and he walked into them slowly. “If it wasn’t for this kid you would be on top of me every night of your life.”
“Yeah, this big lump is really cramping my sex life.”
“God,” you chortled, shoving him away and turning to walk into the hallway, “this big lump is your daughter.” Carrying your legs into the kitchen you rested your hip against the counter-top and crossed your hands over your chest, letting them rest on the bump that you usually used as a table for your drink. “Besides, your sex life was cramped before you got me pregnant.”
He feigned hurt, feigned offense and tucked his head into the crook of your neck when he approached you. You could feel his lips against your neck and you fought back the urge to push him away–it was feeling better than it ever had and you had half a mind to blame the hormones raging inside of your veins.
“Your mom is so mean to me little bean.”
You reached your hand up to curl around his neck, tousling the hairs a the base of his skull and watching fondly as the man bent slightly to talk directly to the protrusion of your skin. You almost wished your daughter would stay inside of you forever, could almost imagine yourself staying pregnant if only to be graced with moments like this for the rest of your days; you wanted to be able to see Chanyeol talking to your stomach with as much fervor and passion as he carried when he kissed you, when he produced music, when he laughed.
Afterall, Chanyeol’s ardent intensity was what brought you here in the first place. His magnetic aura is what drew you in so many years ago and kept you latched onto him like a vice. And now, eight months pregnant, leaning against the counter of your kitchen in your home with your husband and your child inside of you, not a thing had changed.
Only now there was another magnet, a tiny one, one just as powerful and ambient as her father.
And you were lucky enough to be able to call both of them yours.
Forever.

Chapter 8: Unexpected Encounter
The local grocery shop offered a familiar sanctuary in the midst of Emberhaven's turmoil. Y/N entered the store, her steps echoing softly in the fluorescent-lit aisles. It was a simple task, just picking up some food, but in a city where trust was a rarity, even a routine trip to the store had its element of unpredictability.
Her journey through the shop brought a sense of nostalgia mixed with caution. As she navigated the aisles, a subtle sense of unease nudged her, a shadow of something amiss. Her senses sharpened, she noticed a fleeting figure that sent her instinctively ducking behind a shelf, heart pounding.
Peering from her hiding spot, she confirmed the person was gone before emerging cautiously and resuming her shopping. But as she approached the cereal aisle, her anticipation was muffled by a sudden yearning. Her favorite cereal, Fruit Loops, sat on the top shelf, just out of her reach.
Before she could ponder the inconvenience, a presence unfurled behind her, a warmth that she recognized before turning. It was Chanyeol, the very person she had sought to hide from moments earlier. His lopsided smile was different this time, marked by a calming seriousness. "Here you go, Y/N," he offered, placing the coveted box of cereal in her cart.
Stunned by the unexpected encounter, she struggled to find her voice. "Th-thank you...?" she managed, her words a breathless whisper. Chanyeol seemed unwavering in his intention as he looked at her, his tone indicative of their undeniable need to talk. "I really think we need to talk, don't you?"
With a contemplative pause, she nodded, her gaze drifting away. As they continued down the aisle, Chanyeol observed her choices, breaking the silence with a remark about the lack of healthy options in her cart. "Eh, they get the job done," she replied, her words lightly masking her curiosity about his presence.
Chanyeol's gesture took her by surprise as he smoothly took the shopping cart from her, guiding it with a care that transcended the confines of a casual encounter. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she silently wondered if he hadn’t actually recognized her that day, secretly pleased that she hadn't jeopardized their burgeoning connection.
His steps led them to the produce aisle, where he selected vegetables, adding them to her cart with an air of practiced consideration. Next, they ventured to the meat aisle, and fresh cuts of chicken found their place among her groceries. Although questions swirled in her mind, she decided to hold them back for now. "I noticed you had like zero healthy food options in your cart," Chanyeol commented, his tone gentle but firm. "Let's get some healthy veggies into you."
As they made their way toward the self-checkout, Y/N readied herself to complete the transaction. However, Chanyeol acted swiftly, already using his card to pay. Frustration brewed as she questioned his motives, "Hey, why did you do that for?" Her irritation was palpable.
Chanyeol's response held no room for argument. "I want to get it for you. Can’t I do that for someone I lo-", he stopped mid-sentence. Y/N offered a  thank you, not letting on that she heard him. Holy shit, do I really wish to hear the L-word right now??? - she asked herself. As they bagged their purchases together, their unspoken history and the mysterious circumstances that bound them cast a heavy yet hopeful atmosphere.
Chanyeol's reluctance to hand over the bags as they stood by the self-checkout had hinted at his determination to accompany her further. Her suggestion to discuss their matters in the parking lot was met with his unwavering resolve for a more secure location. Before she could protest, he had already taken a few steps forward, his determined stride leading her home.
As they reached her doorstep, she hesitated, turning to face him with an earnest request. "Could you wait here for a bit? I need to straighten out the place a bit first." Chanyeol granted her request with a reassuring smile and a nod.
Quickly, she unlocked her front door and entered her small, modest apartment. Her heart raced as she realized she was about to welcome a guest, especially one she was growing increasingly fond of. A frenzy of cleaning followed, with clothes hurriedly stuffed into the closet and empty snack packets, microwave dinner remnants, and discarded alcoholic beverage bottles swiftly finding their way to the trash.
Every action carried her anticipation and a sense of excitement she couldn't deny. Her emotions were tangled between the thrill of having Chanyeol in her home and the nagging curiosity about what he wanted to talk to her about. All the while, her thoughts whirled, forming a whirlwind of questions and possibilities. She contemplated every item she put away, wondering if it would convey the right image.
Once satisfied that her living quarters at least presented a veneer of tidiness, she walked back to the door with a mix of excitement and anticipation. She had never had a boyfriend, let alone invited someone into her home. As she opened the door, she found Chanyeol seated on the stairs outside, engrossed in his phone.
A confident smile touched her lips as she greeted him, her voice laced with newfound courage. "Come in, Chanyeol." The once-aloof man from the bar had gradually become a more constant presence in her life, and as he stepped into her apartment, it was as though the threshold of her world had expanded to include a piece of his own.
As they stepped into her small apartment, she locked the door behind them, sealing a moment that seemed laden with significance. Guiding him into the combined kitchen and dining area, she invited him to take a seat in one of the chairs while she began to put away her groceries. His voice, filled with concern, interrupted her actions. "How have you been doing?" he inquired, noticing the discomfort she faced while trying to reach the shelves above the kitchen counter, her wounded shoulder causing her to wince.
She paused for a moment, taking a deep breath to compose her response. "I'm doing fine, just been a busy week," she replied, her voice tinged with a subtle hint of exhaustion. Chanyeol's questioning eyes prompted her to explain further. "Busy, huh?" he prodded. "What have you been up to?"
Y/N decided to keep her response vague, hoping not to reveal too much. "You know, just this and that, nothing as exciting as what you would have been up to," she responded with a faint smile.
Chanyeol, however, was determined to unravel the truth. His prodding questions aimed to coax her into sharing her reality, but he couldn't suppress his concern any longer. He moved swiftly, closing the distance between them. With a gentle but determined hand, he pulled aside her cardigan to reveal her bullet wound. The shock in her eyes was evident, and she instinctively pushed him away, her voice raised in protest. "What the hell are you doing?" she demanded.
His tone remained calm, but a trace of anger crept in. "How did you get that wound?" he inquired, the question hanging in the air like an unspoken challenge. Y/N knew the jig was up, her earlier evasions exposed. "So, I guess you did really recognize me," she conceded, her admission laced with a mix of resignation and anxiety.
Chanyeol stepped back, his gaze locked onto the bullet wound. He couldn't help but feel a surge of guilt for having been the one who shot her during the raid. His heart ached as he watched her. Y/N couldn't hide the pain that flickered in her eyes; it was more than just the physical discomfort from her injury. "Y/N, what happened?" he inquired, his voice now softened, revealing genuine concern.
Y/N hesitated for a moment, her gaze shifting from the floor to his earnest eyes. She knew she had to share the truth with him, even if it meant risking her safety. "I was at the wrong place at the wrong time," she began, her voice trembling slightly. "I didn't choose to be there, Chanyeol. Things just spiraled out of control."
Chanyeol absorbed her words, and for a moment, they simply looked at each other, the weight of their complicated connection hanging in the air. Finally, he broke the silence. "Tell me everything, Y/N. I need to understand." His insistence was rooted in a mix of curiosity, regret, and a burgeoning desire to protect her.
As she began to recount the events leading up to the raid, she couldn't help but be captivated by the emotions playing across Chanyeol's face. Concern, understanding, and, perhaps, a hint of forgiveness. When she reached the part where she had stolen the valuable eggs, her eyes met his with a trace of guilt. She anticipated a harsh reaction, but what she found in Chanyeol's gaze surprised her.
"You did what you had to do to survive," he said, his voice filled with empathy. "I can't change what's already happened, but I want to help you now. Y/N, you don't have to face this alone."
As the weight of his words settled in, Y/N's heart ached with gratitude. She had expected anger and recrimination, but instead, she was met with kindness and an offer of support. Chanyeol was proving to be a complex figure in her life, one she was struggling to fully understand.
Chanyeol continued to gently touch her bandaged wound, his eyes filled with remorse. "I apologize for any part I played in your pain," he whispered. Y/N's response brought a small, sad smile to his lips.
As the conversation continued, they shared pieces of their respective truths. Chanyeol admitted to being at the raid because he had been investigating Lucio's operations as part of a deeper undercover operation. He kept the details vague, not wanting to reveal his full involvement or the fact that he knew Y/N's connection to Jongin.
Y/N, in turn, explained her presence at the raid as an attempt to sell the stolen eggs, a move motivated by her need for money and the desire to rid herself of a dangerous commodity. When Chanyeol asked the question that had been weighing on him, if she was part of the organized crime, she answered with an emphatic "FUCK NO! It was the first time I had to deal with that dude, Lucio, and after everything, it was the first and last time I've gotten to be involved with scumbags like that", making it clear that she had no affiliations with Lucio's crew.
Chanyeol nodded, his face reflecting relief at her answer. He believed her, but there was still a knot of worry in his chest. "I'm here because I want to help you, my darling," he said sincerely. "I understand that you're in a difficult situation, and I don't want to see you get hurt further. Is there anything I can do for you? Any way I can assist you in getting out of this mess?"
Y/N's eyes locked with his, her vulnerability showing. She appreciated his offer, even though she was uncertain about the depth of trust she could place in him. "I need a safe place to stay, Chanyeol," she confessed. "Somewhere I can lie low for a while, away from prying eyes."
Chanyeol contemplated for a moment before he spoke, his expression serious. "You could stay with me," he suggested. "I've been trying to keep you out of it, because the situation is more dangerous than you know. Not only are Lucio's men after you, but the police are also searching for you, suspecting your involvement in the mafia."
Y/N's eyes widened with realization, and she felt a shiver of fear. Her name on the police's wanted list was not something she had anticipated. She nodded, understanding the urgency of the situation.
Chanyeol continued, "My home is a secure place, and I have connections that can help keep you hidden. I'll do everything in my power to protect you."
For the first time, Y/N allowed herself to relax slightly in Chanyeol's presence. Despite their complex history and the secrets that lingered between them, it was clear that he genuinely wanted to help her. She felt a glimmer of hope that perhaps, with Chanyeol's assistance, she could navigate the perilous path she had found herself on.
The atmosphere was thick with tension as Y/N hurriedly packed a duffel bag with essentials. Chanyeol sat on the floor, amusing himself by playing with her cat. The sight of him interacting with her furry companion brought a smile to her face. In the midst of chaos, these small moments of connection provided a glimmer of normalcy.
Y/N zipped up the duffel bag and then looked over at Chanyeol. Her heart swelled with gratitude. She was relieved that she had found him, and there was a sense of reassurance in his presence. However, their respite was short-lived.
With her cat secured in a carrier, Y/N picked up her belongings, but Chanyeol stepped forward, offering to carry both the duffel bag and the carrier. They were about to make their way to the door when they heard hushed, urgent murmurs and shuffling outside her apartment.
Both Y/N and Chanyeol froze, their gazes locked in alarm. The situation had escalated rapidly. Chanyeol motioned for her to step back as he approached the door, peering through the peephole. What he saw sent a chill down his spine.
"It's Lucio's men," he whispered to Y/N. “Shit, they must be here for the merch and the money”, she whispers back. She tensed and glanced around the room, her mind racing for an escape plan. Chanyeol pointed toward the back door, and they rushed toward it, leaving her front door behind.
Just as they reached the back door and Chanyeol fumbled for the lock, a deafening crash echoed from the front of the apartment. The door to her home was brutally knocked down, revealing multiple armed assailants who had already infiltrated her living space.
With heartbeats racing and adrenaline coursing through their veins, Y/N and Chanyeol didn't have a moment to lose. They burst through the back door just as the front door was breached, the sound of gunshots and the rush of bullets whizzing past them echoing in the narrow hallways. The two of them fled into the darkness, their escape into the night fraught with danger, but driven by the desperate need to stay one step ahead of their pursuers.
Under the cover of the inky night, Y/N and Chanyeol found themselves crouched behind a parked car in a desolate alleyway. Their breaths came out in hurried gasps, and their hearts pounded with adrenaline as they listened for any signs of their relentless pursuers.
Y/N, her senses sharpened by desperation, carefully peeked out from their hiding spot to scan the surroundings. Her eyes strained to spot any movement, and as she gazed down the dimly lit alley, she could sense no immediate threat. With a subtle but reassuring nod, she signaled to Chanyeol that the coast was temporarily clear.
Carefully and without a moment's hesitation, they silently slipped away from their refuge behind the car, making their way through the labyrinthine streets of Emberhaven. Their footsteps were quiet, and every alley they navigated, every turn they took, was guided by the instinct to evade their relentless pursuers.
As they journeyed through the dimly lit night, Chanyeol's residence became their beacon of hope. Their determination was unwavering, a testament to the unspoken connection that bound them. Safety was within reach, but the secrets that swirled around them grew ever more ominous.
In the calm of the night, under a moonless sky, they reached Chanyeol's home. Their breaths, once ragged and anxious, now settled into an air of relief. They had managed to elude the danger that lurked in the shadows of the city, for now.
