A Manor of Shadow and Blood
Tumblr media
Genre: Regency Gothic AU
Pairing: EXO x Reader
Summary: A stormy night brought you to the manor in the middle of the woods. Nine strange men occupied its halls. They won’t let you leave. A dangerous secret haunts this estate. Learning it might either be your saving grace or it could lead to the last breath you ever take.
Part: 1 I 2 I 3
**
The wind whistled against the windows like a hallowing scream. You tossed and turned, desperate to fall asleep. The first few nights had been somewhat peaceful, due to the fever having a complete hold over you. To fight it off, your body had kept you in a deep sleep, only broken by bouts of blurry consciousness.
But now… every noise made your eyelids snap open and your heart jump in pace. This unfamiliar place was full of shadows and secrets. Secrets that revolved around the men keeping you here.
Releasing a long sigh, you stared up at the canopy, the newly formed indentions in the knife floating in your mind. They weren’t there before, you were sure of that. You had used that knife to cut the chicken and it was in perfect condition. No human could bend the metal like that.
And then there was the speed at which Yixing caught your wrist.
You sat up with haste. Sleep was not going to come to you tonight. You groaned and rubbed your face with your fingers. The room slowly came into view as your eyes adjusted to the dim moonlight. You had opened the curtain before slipping into bed so you could watch the moon rise into the sky. Looking around the room, you searched for an answer on how to get yourself to sleep. There wasn’t much in this grand room. Simply a bed, a wardrobe, a dresser, the chair–
Wait.
Pushing the blanket off of your legs, you crawled across the mattress towards the chair. The shape didn’t seem right. Six legs instead of four. An extra shape in the outline.
“You should go to sleep.”
A high pitched scream ripped at your throat until a cold hand covered your mouth, cutting off the sound. Now fully bathed in the blue moonlight, you could make out the sharp features of Yixing’s face.
You shoved his arm away to free your lips. “What do you think you are doing in my room?” No gentleman would dare enter a lady’s room like this. Unless– gumption gone, you swallowed thickly. Was the reason you were trapped here finally coming to fruition?
The corner of Yixing’s mouth twitched upwards. He slinked forward like a cat cornering a mouse until his arms trapped you against the mattress, a hand on either side of your hip. Only your elbows kept you from being flat on your back, even more vulnerable.
“You’re a noisy sleeper,” he purred, his eyes flashing. “It's… distracting.”
You scoffed. None of their rooms were near yours. You were sure that all the ones around you were empty. He shouldn’t have been able to hear your tossing and turning. “Distracting?”
He hummed. His right hand lifted from the bed and reached out towards your face. You flinched at the motion, making him freeze.
But only for a moment.
The hovering fingers soon resumed their path. He didn’t make contact with your cheek, however. Instead, his fingers traced the outline of your collarbone. Down one slope and up the other. You trembled at the contact. His smirked only deepend. His fingers moved on to your shoulder, the too loose neckline of the nightgown nearly falling off.
You should slap him away, scream at him to leave, but you were too petrified to do so.
At least, you thought that was what stopped you. The coldness of his fingers moved up the curve of your neck, the tips pausing on the pulsing vein. His thumb caressed the edge of your jaw.
“Go to sleep.”
And like that, he disappeared into the night like smoke from a dying ember.
You didn’t hear or see the door open or close, but you knew you were alone now.
And you were furious.
How dare he come here! How dare he–
Your feet hit the floor, heavy and without a care of being heard. Sleep, in protest of that madman’s orders, would now be impossible. Anger and frustration at your situation fueled something new within you.
You weren’t sure what it was or what it would lead to, but you followed it without question. Donning soft slippers and a thicker slip dress, you found a candle in the top drawer, along with a few matches and a holder. You lit the candle and left your room.
Out. You needed to find a way out. Perhaps if you could get ahold of a piece of paper and a pen then you could write–
But how would you get it to someone who could take it to your family?
This place–somewhere in its halls or dusty room–had to hold the key. Something here had to be your savior, something to make this hope not without merit.
You pinched the candleholder tightly in your hand. The tiny flame danced before your eyes, occasionally catching your attention away from where you were going. All of your senses were heightened, on the lookout for the next corner’s surprise. If one of them was awake at this hour, then more could be as well. Running into one of them could be detrimental–or a possibility for answers. Perhaps if you could get one of the others, one of the less… frightful ones, you might be able to plead for help. One surely would take pity on you.
Or they would simply take advantage of the isolation.
Though that fear lingered in the back of your mind, you kept on your quiet steps.
There wasn’t much you could see with the light of the candle. The floors, like your room, were of wood boards somewhat taken care of. Portraits and landscapes hung on the walls, but their colors had faded, no longer holding the joy of life they once had captured.
Taking a left at a fork in the hall, you came to a large door that didn’t open like the others. It slid sideways on wheels like a ladder against tall bookshelves. As carefully as you could, you pushed the door open and glanced inside.
The room was just a simple parlor, with an unlit fireplace and several stuffed chairs accompanied by small side tables. Most likely an unused smoke room for the gentlemen to disappear to after dinner.
Across the room was another door, though this one seemed to be the normal kind that swung on hinges. On the other side was probably another hallway. A connecting room like this could be useful as a quick getaway, should the need arise. You mentally noted its existence and stepped inside, slowly sliding the door closed behind you. With a deep breath, you started for the other door.
“I don’t recall you being given free reign of the manor.”
You nearly dropped the candle from the unexpected voice. Careless! You should have inspected the room closer and then you would have seen Sehun clearly leaning back in one of the chairs, fully facing you. His expression was a friendly one, but rather one of deep irritation. It would seem you interrupted… something. Or maybe your mere existence was enough to annoy him.
“I wasn’t explicitly told to stay in my room,” you argued, though not in a particularly strong voice. “Is there something wrong with me walking about?”
Sehun stood from the chair with inhuman grace. You had never seen someone move so smoothly, without fault or twitch. He had complete control of his lithe limbs and tall stature. Gangly would never apply to him. His steps were noiseless as he sauntered closer, stopping a foot or two away.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he snarled. “It’s stupid to roam where you shouldn’t be.”
“Stupid?” It was one thing for you to scold yourself in your private thoughts, but you would not be insulted this way. “If I am so unwelcomed in this room then you can simply ask for me to leave.” You raised an eyebrow in challenge, hoping that would cover the pounding of your fearful heart.
He didn’t appear to notice. His jaw shifted left to right, but no words left his lips.
“Well, then.” You took your eyes away from him and started for the other door, holding on to that tiny bit of triumph.
An arm as strong as an iron bar flashed before you, blocking your way and refusing to move. Sehun’s palm was spread along the faded green pain of the wall. You shoved and pushed at the barrier, but nothing even made him flinch. He encroached, leaving behind any sense of personal space, much like Yixing just an hour before. He loomed over you, his upper lip curling into a mixture of a snarl and smirk.
“That bravery is a mistake,” he hissed. You pressed your back against the wall and brought the candle close to you as if that tiny flame was enough to keep him at bay.
Which was exactly the reaction he wanted. A sly, wicked smirk fully took over.
Pursing his lips, he blew once, snuffing out the flame. For a few seconds, you were absolutely blind in the sudden darkness. Sehun was invisible to you, despite his closeness. However, you could feel his breath against your chin. It was cold, like a winter’s breeze. It should have been warm. Human breathes were warm.
That chilling breath grew closer. It traveled from your nose to your cheek and then to your hair, ruffling the strands against your ear. Something nudged against your temple. He took a long, deep breath. His nose. Was he… smelling you?
Your eyes began to adjust to the darkness, absorbing any bits of moonlight that broke through the heavy curtains hanging from the short windows above your head. All you could see of Sehun was the slope of his shoulder and the outline of his hair.
His head snapped up, making you squeak. But he didn’t acknowledge the jump, his eyes turned towards the hallway you had entered from. A low hiss vibrated in his chest. You could nearly feel it in your own. He glanced at you once, his eyes shining unnaturally in the dark. Then, he ran from the room at a speed no man should possess.
You ran back to your room, the candle still gripped tightly by your side. Panic gripped you so completely that you passed the door to your sanctuary the first time. Once inside, you desperately searched for a way to lock the door. There was none. Alright. Fine. You would barricade the door then.
Huffing shallow breaths, you pulled and pushed the armchair so it acted like a weight against the door. It might not be heavy enough to keep it shut forever, but at least entering would be a struggle. You had tried the more fortifying dresser first, but it had refused to shift even a centimeter. The chair was the best you could do.
Ripping the blanket off of the bed, you draped the heavy fabric over your shoulders and sat down on the floor under the window. Your gaze stayed trained on the door, ears straining for the slightest sound to alert you for whoever came for you next. Sehun's cold breath still lingered against your skin. You rubbed at your cheek to try and make it go away. So close. He'd been so close.
And Yixing. That was why you couldn't be on the bed. Not tonight. Maybe not tomorrow. Or even the night after that. It was tainted. You shivered at the memory of his closeness and pulled the blanket in closer. That one long cloth was now your shield, your protection. The object that kept you safe. In your mind, at least. In truth, it would be ripped away from you as easily as water slipping through your fingers. But the thought was enough.
You tucked your chin in between the folds and kept watching the door. Soon, the night would get lighter. Already, the darkness didn't seem as strong.
How long until one of them came? Until someone tried to push their way inside? You hoped it would be a long time. Even hoped that they would forget about you and you could find a way to make it out, survive the forest, and see your family again. The odds weren't in your favor, but that hope was a life line.
As the moonlight shifted, your eyes grew heavy. It was a battle to keep them open. Each time they fluttered closed, you lost ground. Sleep that had eluded you so easily before now came back to reclaim its time. The door blurred before you and then sleep claimed its victory.
Tap, tap, tap.
Your eyes blinked open. It was still night. Or, perhaps, it was night again. This darkness felt new. The beginning of a fresh night.
Tap, tap.
You looked up at the window above your head.
Tap, tap, tap.
Little black dots hit the window before disappearing out of view. You frowned and pushed up off the floor, the protective blanket falling to the floor. Still emerging from sleep, your eyes took a moment to bring the scene into focus. At first, you merely saw a blur amongst the grass.
Then, it took shape.
You groaned. Jongdae was waving at you to come down.
You shook your head furiously. Safety was in here. And... though he didn’t feel quite as dangerous as the others, he still made you weary. The memories of Sehun and Yixing were still burnt freshly into your mind.
At your refusal, he visibly sighed. In his other hand hung a small cloth bag. He pulled a small bun from the bag and held it up to you. Your stomach grumbled and gurgled  in response. It looked… nice. You could almost smell the bread's delectable scent. Were you really going to give in to food?
You needed an ally, you told yourself. He was different from the others. How much you weren't sure, but perhaps you could use that. If you could make him sympathetic to you–
Mind made up, you turned from the wind and changed into more appropriate clothing. This time, you heeded Jongdae's advice and kept your hair down to cover your neck. It felt highly improper, like a hundred governesses would appear from nowhere to scold you for being so scandalous. But you shoved the invisible tsking women away and moved the chair just enough to exit into the hallway.
It took some time to find your way outside. Jongdae now waited for you with his back against a lone tree that looked to be one more winter away from death.
"I'll note that food is a way to entice you out."
You glared at him. "Did you have a reason for standing under my window instead of knocking on the door like a normal person?"
"Junmyeon had tried to bring you breakfast around sunrise," he said as he inspected the perfectly browned bun still in his hand. "He couldn't get in, though."
"I blocked the door," you explained casually.
Jongdae raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed by some measure. “Quick learner."
"After some… events last night, precaution was necessary."
"Yixing has restraint." He pushed off the tree and held the bun out to you. "You were lucky that Sehun was called off of you, though. His self-control is... lacking."
You gaped at him, heat rising fiercely in your cheeks. "How did you–”
“Know?" he smirked. "Secrets don't exist here. Best you learn that quickly."
You narrowed your gaze at him. "No secrets?"
Seeing right through you, he laughed, leaning forward and close to your face. "From us. Not for you."
The pure arrogance in that reply. "That hardly seems fair."
"That's life,” He shrugged. Looking around for nothing in particular, he said, “Let's take a walk."
The roll broke easily against your teeth. You chewed on the bite, resisting the urge to moan at its delicious flavor. The inside was still soft and fresh. Finally swallowing, you refused him a single step. "Why?"
"You've been sleeping on a hard floor all day,” he said pointedly. You didn’t want to think about how he possibly knew that. "You need to move." For an extra enticement, he held up the linen bag. More where that came from, he said without speaking.
The bun in your hand, though all of its warmth was gone, was like heaven in your stomach. But it certainly wouldn't be enough. "Fine."
You followed him alongside the house, not bothering to speak so you could continue eating. The last of the orange glow of day disappeared into the horizon far ahead of you. Yes, you had really slept for all those sunlit hours. Once again, night, it would seem, was to be your day. Chewing on the last bit of bun, you held your hand for the next morsel.
"We’re greedy this evening," Jongdae chuckled.
"Did you think I came for your company?" You couldn’t help but give a spiteful response.
Not offended in the slightest, he threw you a rather despicable smile. "Better my company then one of the others."
Though you agreed, you refused to do so aloud. "Are you that different from them?"
He didn't answer. Staring ahead, he reached into the bag and pulled out another bun, holding it out for you.
"Is this to keep me from asking more questions?"
You managed to make him chuckle. "No. Just to keep you occupied while I answer the last one."
Too curious, you accepted the bun and took a bite. Jongdae sighed and clasped his hands behind his back, the now nearly empty bag dangling from his fingertips. "We're all different from each other. I'm not more different from them. Though I am better than the others at controlling myself."
Your steps faltered. "Controlling yourself?"
He nodded. As you passed under another tree, he reached out and swing up into the branches without exerting effort, sitting on a branch well out of your own reach.
"What are you? All of you,” you asked in a breathy gasp. All they were capable of doing was adding up, but logic told you repeatedly it was impossible. You wanted to try and rationalize it, even try to convince yourself that you were still sick with fever. But this was all too real to be a mere hallucination. What it all meant, however, you couldn’t understand.
Hands grasped around two of the branches, he leaned forward and closed the gap between you. "You seem moderately intelligent. I'm sure you can discover the answer on your own."
"As flattering as that is," you huffed through clenched teeth, "if the answer means danger then you should be the man to tell me."
"If?" Jongdae laughed, as if he had read your mind. He jumped from the tree, flattening the bits of hair that had fallen out of place with his fingers. Despite playing in the tree like a child, he looked ever so the gentleman.
"’If' is a fantasy.” He glanced behind you. Scared, you followed his gaze, but there was no one there. When you turned back around, you gasped. His nose was mere centimeters from yours. "It does mean danger. You need to keep your eyes and ears open. Happy or not, you are here for a long while and no one is coming for you.''
You swallowed back tears as his words planted firmly in your heart. Now, you truly accepted it. No running, no escape. You were at their mercy. Whatever they were. And though Jongdae gave the impression that he was on your side, his help was firmly limited. Food and company, that was all he was good for.
Walking once again, you solemnly finished the last bit of bun as Jongdae kept pace. When the second helping of bread ran out, you chewed on your next few words. If you were here for the foreseeable future, you might as well know this land’s history.
"Who’s house is this?"
"Hm?" Jongdae had been lost in thoughts of his own, it appeared. He blinked himself back to the present conversation. "Oh. The manor is Kyungsoo's."
"Kyungsoo's?" you repeated. Odd. The answer you had been expecting was the obvious: Junmyeon. He seemed to be the one everyone looked to for answers or leadership. His word was law, yet this land did not fall to him. Kyungsoo, on the other hand, felt too... isolated, cut away to be the rightful owner of this grand place. The few lords you had met before all possessed the same self-awareness and high opinion of themselves. Kyungsoo didn’t give the appearance that he cared about either.
"Yes,” Jongdae nodded, his previous teasing gone now. “He inherited it from his father. The family used to own as much land as the eye could see. But his father was a gambler. Terrible at cards, wonderful at losing. They had to sell the land to keep the debtors at bay. Now, all that is left is this manor and a bit of the surrounding land, but no tenants. The glory of the family is now reduced to this.”
You listened to the story with careful respect. It was one sadly more common among the nobility then they wished to admit. Land was constantly switching family names, sometimes it was difficult to keep track. A small fear you had was accidentally reminding a high nobility of their careless ancestor. "What's his family name?"
"Jongdae! Here's where you disappeared off to."
Your stroll in the moonlight stuttered to a halt.

I want to read dad baekhyun and his 3 little daughters. 😭 What will be the fourth one 👀
Ok so why not take advantage of exo as dads series to talk about baekhyun, right? RIGHT!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EXO AS DADS SERIES | BAEKHYUN VER.
Xiumin Ver. | Chen Ver. | Yixing Ver. | Jongin Ver. | Chanyeol Ver. | Kyungsoo Ver. | Suho Ver. | Sehun Ver.
Word count:  Author: Maari Summary: A series of what exo would be like as a parent, from discovery to growth
First of all, good luck to the future s/o because you will be a rabbit!
I can clearly see Baekhyun as a girl's father but trying at all costs to have a boy
And that's how he got to the 4th daughter 🤣
And of course he already knew because after all, they had been trying for another baby for a long time.
In fact, I'm pretty sure he'd be like "Are you sure that you're not pregnant yet?"
"Honey, I already took two pregnancy tests."
"One more reason to make a third."
And then all of a sudden one night his s/o would be throwing up and he would already know it's the baby!
I don't think the daughters would have a big age difference because
I really think he likes having a baby at home
There's something about seeing that tiny baby sleeping soundly in his arms that is 😍
And I think he's the kind of playful father who takes things seriously when he has to much like my father is
But he's the best friend of his little girls!
Seriously, there is nothing they wouldn't say or ask him for
Helping with a school homework he has no idea what it's like? He will learn just to teach them properly.
Daughters want a different hairstyle to go out? He will do it.
Watch Barbie movies and sing along? It's his favorite part of the day!
Talking about where babies come from? … Oh, well, that he probably won't be able to say without laughing from sheer nervousness 🤣
But you got my point, right? Ok
So when he and his wife found out that another baby is on the way, he was ready to tell his little daughters.
And I think it would be the best and cutest conversation ever 🥺
He would do it in a natural way that wouldn't make the girls jealous of the attention the baby will receive but rather excited that another baby is coming soon.
And he'll probably have to hear every day when the baby is coming
Because his enthusiasm rubbed off on his daughters 🤣
But I imagine him together with his daughters making drawings for the new baby 😫
They wanting to help the father set up the baby's room
And probably making him give up in the next 15 minutes because they are making him more tired than the crib he has to put together.
And if you thought of them helping to paint the room, then you thought right because so did I!
In the end, everyone knows it would be a paint war and his wife would probably have to arrive to end the game and tell everyone to take a shower because there's even paint in their hair
Family shopping!!!
Him choosing clothes for the baby together with the girls oh my god I'm going to die of cuteness
"Dad, I think this one is prettier."
"But I liked that one, dad"
"Only this one will suit better!"
"You know what, let's take them all!" and that's how he came home with more bags of clothes than he had planned 🤣
But most importantly, he would make sure he was paying attention to all the women in his life.
He would take all the daughters to their beds in one night, when everyone else was already asleep in the living room.
And his s/o too!!
Because there is no more important woman in the world than her 🥺
"Love, I don't think you're going to be able to carry me to the bedroom."
"What kind of husband would I be if I let my tired pregnant wife walk around with those swollen legs?" he would say, while trying to arrange the best position to hold her in his lap… But her belly wouldn't let him. "Yeah, I think that it's better if we just sleep here!"
Would wake up early to prepare breakfast for everyone!
He'd take the girls to school, and he'd probably cry in the car when he realized how big the little girls actually are.
The priority would be his family!
Even though he was working, recording new songs, during breaks he would call his wife or turn on the home camera on his phone to see if everything was alright
Even tired, I'm sure he would make his daughters help put away the toys they spread around the living room or bedroom.
He would teach his daughters to sing to the baby in their mother's belly why am i doing this to myself? 😫
But make no mistake, even though experienced with sudden baby arrivals and births
He would be a nervous wreck for the birth of his fourth daughter!
I would be so nervous that I wouldn't know who to call first, the parents, the in-laws or the members 🤣
He would definitely pass on the view that he is a first-time father
But not fainting during childbirth, as happened with the first daughter
I think he would cry holding his newborn daughter in his arms!
And the wife seeing this would be like "are you crying for real?"
"She's just so beautiful! She has my nose."
But I think the most exciting moment for him would be when his daughters go to the hospital to meet their new sister.
He would probably be able to hold back the tears and look with a twinkle in his eyes with so much pride for the family he has 🥺
Will fight and die for his family!
He will be the attentive, helpful father who will talk to his daughters about how they need to keep their voices down when the baby is sleeping
He will let the daughters help change the diaper, bathe and rock the baby because he also wants to capture these moments with good photos!
I really think he would be an extraordinary father, devoted to his daughters and only thinking about what's best for them.
For example, I'm sure he wouldn't expose any of them to the media or anything like that.
Because he wants to preserve all of them as much as possible and if one day they want to be artists like him, there will be no one who will support more than him!
But deep down he hopes they follow other careers 🤣
One day, when all the daughters are napping together in the afternoon, he would hug his wife and look at her as if she were the most special jewel in the world.
"We are very lucky parents, aren't we?"
"Yes, we are!"but the wife would know that he was going to say something, because that little smile of someone who is going to do something is there "We are not having another baby!"
"How about a dog then?"

PREVIEW CHAPTER TWO
Tumblr media
The damn dress I bought just won't close. The zipper got stuck halfway and you don't know how to force it without tearing your dress. You spent a good part of your afternoon doing bridesmaid things. Your apartment doorbell rings, alerting you that you are terribly late.
"I'm coming." You speak loud enough for whoever is at the door to stop ringing the doorbell. With your dress still open in the back, you open the door, coming face to face with your boss. Kim Jongin rarely is late.
"With all due respect, don't you think it's a little aggressive to try to steal the bride's spotlight?" He says as he enters your apartment, you smile embarrassed. He has no idea how what he says affects you, which is good.
"Actually, the bride chose this dress without me. Now I'm trying to get into this shit but I can't. Do you mind helping me?" You say, turning your back, waiting for Kim Jongin to help you. He doesn't respond at all. But you feel his hand go down your back, making its way to the zipper. Finally he closes the dress for you and when you think it's done, you feel him approach your neck as if he's going to kiss you there. But actually he just smelled you.
"Your scent must be the most delicious scent I've ever smelled." He says as you turn to face him. You don't know what to say, so you ignore him and go to the bathroom to finish your makeup. He follows you there and out of the corner of your eye, you watch him.
"Are you going to behave?" You ask and almost immediately he smiles mischievously.
"If I don't behave, will you punish me?" Jongin speaks in a rude tone and you turn to look him in the eyes.
"If you don't behave, sir...I'll resign and you'll be left to fend for yourself." You say, looking seriously at him, who even seems to like your answer.
"I prefer a good old punishment. But I'll try my best today. I mean, I'm going to behave so I don't have to lose you." He says, approaching you and extending his hand for you to get up from the chair in front of the dresser.
"Do you think I'm well dressed? I feel like this dress wasn't made for me." Luna has always had a unique style and let's say fashionista when it comes to clothes, as for you...you usually wear what makes you comfortable. And that dress doesn't make you very comfortable.
"I told you. You're stealing all the attention. At least stealing all of mine attention." And he says this with zero intention of being with you. It's impressive.
"Let's go. Luna will kill us if we get there after her." You say, taking your bag and heading towards the door. Jongin comes right behind you and the two of you quickly go to the dinner location of the engagement dinner. Everything about the place was stunning. Sehun, Luna's fiance was next to her taking photos.
You're not sure what to do, it seems like all eyes in the beautiful banquet hall for the engagement dinner are on you. Everyone is watching as you and Kim Jongin enter, almost as if you were expected. Amid smiles and sideways glances, you both walk in. Suddenly, Jongin grabs your waist, leaving you confused. Until you notice the exchange of glances between Luna and Jongin, realizing that he's using you to make her jealous. Jerk.
"You know, I've always suspected there was something going on between you and Luna. But using me to make her jealous is low, even for you." You whisper in Kim Jongin's ear. From afar, no one would suspect that you're cursing him out. They might even think you're whispering something naughty in his ear.
"Y/N…" He starts to speak but is interrupted by the newlyweds who came to greet us. You had to compose yourself because you didn't want Sehun or Luna to notice that you're angry with Jongin, even though Luna is part of all this.
"I was starting to think the maid of honor wouldn't show up for the party, huh, Y/N? You know Luna can't live without you." Sehun says as he approaches to hug you and Jongin. You notice a strange exchange of glances between the groom and your boss, but you brush it off.
"In her defense, the maid of honor had to look beautiful for her best friend's special day." Kim Jongin says as he greets the bride and groom. The weirdest part is that Sehun seems tense because of your boss.
"You've got a lot of nerve showing up here after telling my fiancée you loved her in that damn call." Sehun says, almost lunging at Kim Jongin. You feel the need to find an excuse to lighten the mood of the party before things escalate into a fight.
"Listen here, buddy…" Kim Jongin begins, but you interrupt him, shifting the spotlight of this conversation onto yourself.
"What Kai means is that he mixed up his messages. He was drunk, dialed the wrong number, and ended up mistakenly declaring his feelings to Luna." You say. Perhaps this is the worst excuse you've ever given in your life.
"And how do you know that?" Luna asks, sounding genuinely surprised that you've come up with such a almost convincing excuse for Jongin's declaration.
"Her and I are engaged. We just didn't want to steal your moment." Kim Jongin says, catching everyone off guard, including you. And then he kisses your cheek, and you smile.

We Got Married
Tumblr media
“Ever since we met, I’ve known that we’re special. That the way we talk and laugh around each other is different than everyone else. That I will never meet anyone I can trust as much as I trust you. And I think most people search their whole lives to find what we’ve already found. “
Summary: You were just another Korean Idol doing anything you can to make a living till all of sudden an opportunity falls into your lap. You would always joke with your manager about signing you up for the reality show we got married; everything was fun and games until you suddenly get the news that you were now going to be apart of the show. Not only were you slightly excited, you were slightly terrified at that fact that… your husband can be anyone… Who will it be? What will happen?
Previous Parts:
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4
Part 5 is here~
Masterlist
You looked over at Chanyeol and noticed the way he began to look over at you. He’s probably curious to hear your response like everyone else in the room.
You looked down at your hand that was on the lie detector. Should you answer with the truth? What can go wrong?
“Yes,” you blurted out and that’s when Baekhyun pressed the button, and the machine began to make noise.
This was the truth, so you weren’t freaked out about getting shocked, however, you were kind of nervous to see what type of reaction Chanyeol was going to have the moment he finds out he is your bias from EXO.
After a moment of suspense, a ding sound came out of the machine and everyone was quick to all in sync say Oooo looking both at Chanyeol and you.
“Time to ask the same thing back to Chanyeol!” Nari was quick to say and as you glanced back at him you noticed he was quick to shake his head.
“No no shouldn’t we continue asking Y/N questions?” However, instead of listening to Chanyeol, they liked Nari’s idea.
Chanyeol grabbed the machine and he looked at everyone.
“Was Y/N your first bias in Lotus Love?” Now I was feeling curious to hear what his response was.
“Yes,” he responded but from his facial expression, he looked anxious.
A side of you was hoping to hear the same ding sound you heard when you told the truth about Chanyeol being your bias... However, you witnessed Chanyeol getting shocked, giving you mixed feelings...
“Ah,” He shouted as he removed his hand from the lie detector, and everyone looked shocked and looked at you.
No one was probably expecting to see these results happen... To be honest neither were you but it makes sense... Chanyeol to have you as a bias would be too far to go.
Instead of showing how disappointed you were, all you did was smile and play it off. After all, that's all you can do.
After Chanyeol recovered from being shocked, you could feel him looking over at you, but you decided to avoid eye contact.
“Isn’t his bias Yu-Na?” Sehun randomly blurts out.
You noticed that Chanyeol lightly hit Sehun, indicating to him to stop talking but it was too late for that.
“Who's next!” Baekhyun quickly says, hoping to clear the tension that was suddenly floating around the room.
“I’ll go next,” Kai offers, and you all continue to play the game ignoring the fact that your “fake husband” wasn’t attracted to you. If anything, he was attracted to another member of your group...
You had to hide the fact that it bothered you. You couldn’t help but glance at Yu-Na and noticed her smiling.
~
Your Interview
“How did it make you feel to hear that you weren’t Chanyeol’s bias?”
You: “Ah I mean I can’t say much about it because I’m not surprised. I mean when we both came to the show, we didn’t know we were going to be each other’s choices. I can’t get mad at the fact that he preferred someone else instead of me.
“Did it bother you a little?”
*You smile*
You: “Okay... Maybe just a little.
Chanyeol’s Interview:
“How do you feel now that Y/N knows who your actual bias is in Lotus Love?”
Chanyeol: “Honestly I wasn’t expecting for it to come out so soon... I mean I like all of the members but after getting to know Y/N she changed my mind.
“Are you saying that Y/N is now your new bias?”
Chanyeol: “Yes I am,”
-
After asking each other questions and learning more about one another eventually the food arrived. You all gathered around the table and continued to get to know everyone, especially Chanyeol.
You haven’t said much to him especially after hearing the fact that his bias was someone else who is not you...
“Y/N, can I ask you something?” Suho asks as you take a sip of water.
“What’s up?”
You were mentally prepared to answer any question that gets thrown in your direction. You already knew that the question was going to be about Chanyeol.
“Were you disappointed when you found out that your husband was going to be Chanyeol?” Suho asks and before you could answer Kai cuts in.
“Isn’t her bias Chanyeol?”
“You’re right... Let me rephrase the question... After spending some time with Chanyeol and getting to know how he is, are you disappointed that Chanyeol is your husband?” Everyone’s eyes were back on me.
You weren’t close to disappointed... If anything, so far this experience has been memorable and something you were planning to value for the rest of your life. Chanyeol and you were having fun during this whole process and you wouldn’t want it any other way.
“Honest truth?” You said trying to put everyone on the edge. You wanted Chanyeol to be worried and think he was doing a bad job.
You glanced over at him waiting to see what type of reaction he was having but he was quiet.
“We are all dying to know now,” Kyungsoo said, and you smiled.
“He hasn’t disappointed me yet. If anything, he’s been rather sweet for the most part so I can’t complain,” as soon as you said that Chanyeol for some reason looked relieved.
“You haven’t seen any bad qualities on Chanyeol?” Except that he lied just now no.
“Not yet,” Chanyeol shot a glare at the boys and you just smiled
“You know I was personally surprised to see Chanyeol come to this show,” Sehun spoke up and you looked at him.
“How come?”
You weren’t planning to be a part of this show, but your manager encouraged how taking part in this show can boost your group's popularity. Also, after talking to your members, they did give good points about how this could be a good experience on what it would be like to settle down with someone.
“Chanyeol is someone who is devoted to music, it's rare to catch him talking about wanting to settle down,” Sehun says, and the other guys begin to nod their heads agreeing.
“That doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about it,” Chanyeol quickly adds, and they all just looked at him.
“You know not to put anyone out there, but I know when Baekhyun heard that Y/N was your wife he was not happy about it,” Suho blurted out and Baekhyun's eyes immediately opened wide.
“Wait, why?” Chanyeol even asked because it seems like he didn’t even know about it...
Did they not like you? Did they think you were a bad person?
“No reason,” Baekhyun quickly says, trying to avoid continuing the conversation but everyone was already curious.
“No now I am curious,” Chanyeol says, and you wanted to say the same, but you didn’t bother. You just stood quiet and waited for someone to say something.
Suho was about to say it but before anything was said Baekhyun since he was sitting next to him, reached over to him and covered his mouth with his hand.
Baekhyun thought he got everything figured out but then Kai suddenly began to smile.
“Oh, I know why, is it because Y/N is Baekhyun bias?” The moment Kai blurted it out you were surprised.
You looked over at Baekhyun and he looked completely flustered. He removed his hand from Suho’s mouth and looked at his plate smiling. You could tell he must have been embarrassed. Poor guy.
“Wait Y/N is your bias?” Chanyeol asks, making sure he heard correctly, and Kai nodded his head for him.
“Suddenly things seem to get interesting,” Jihee says smirking and you felt like you have to say something to make this conversation less awkward.
You suddenly wanted to say something to get Chanyeol on his toes. An idea popped in your head and you smiled.
“Baekhyun,” as soon as you said his name everyone broke their necks and looked at you including Chanyeol...
“If I wasn’t married to Chanyeol, you could have given me a call,” the marriage is obviously fake, but you couldn’t do anything about Baekhyun liking you since you’re “with his former group member.”
~
Interview to Chanyeol
“Did you know that Baekhyun’s Bias in Lotus Love is Y/N?”
No...
-
After making that remark everyone began to make the ooO noise and Baekhyun continued to smile, having his ears turn red.
“I never expected Baekhyun to come here and steal my wife,” Chanyeol says smiling, laughing along with everyone else and you just went along with it.
Chanyeol and you just met one another not too long ago, it’s weird to suddenly feel some type of way with the new information you learned. Chanyeol and you are only together for television, not in real life.
“Guess we all have to keep an eye out for Baekhyun, we don’t know what else he is capable of doing,” Kai says, and you all laughed.
~
Everything was going by smoothly, but things were coming to an end. Many had to leave due to their schedules. Chanyeol and you had to shoot a couple of more things and then from there, you were free to go off and do your own thing.
“Text me, okay?” Ji Hee says before she leaves out the door. You nodded and at last Chanyeol and you were alone again.
With the camera crew of course.
You could feel the cameras still recording so even though you were slightly bothered with what you learned today, you continued to put up an act.
“That was...” Before Chanyeol finished the question you stopped him and answered for him.
“Interesting,”
You both walked over to the couch that was in the living room and sat together side by side.
“I’m sorry about my members... I didn’t think they would tell you everything...” you knew he was referring to the fact that you found out his bias is Yu-Na
“Don’t worry about it, it’s given me a chance to understand you better now,”
I glanced out at the windows and could tell it was getting dark. Our shoot was coming to an end soon.
“Anyways since everyone has left, do you want to go check out the bedroom?” One thing about We Got Married, we record as if we are planning to stay in the same house as one another but we don’t. This was all an act for the most part.
We both walked over to the room with the bed, and I looked around. It was well decorated. I never expected to own a bed that had currents above it to enter in.
The way the room was set up made me consider staying a night in the bedroom. But I wasn’t allowed, this was all for cameras.
“Wow this is beautiful,” I said as I walked over to the bed and Chanyeol followed behind me.
“They have outdone themselves,” I sat on the bed and I glanced at Chanyeol waiting to see if he was going to be timid about the situation or go with the flow. In the beginning, you could tell he was slightly hesitant to sit on the bed.
Interview to Chanyeol:
Interviewer: Were you nervous to be in the same room as Y/N,”
Chanyeol: “I was slightly nervous just because of the situation earlier where she found out who my actual bias was... And now we are alone together in a room. I have no idea whether she’s upset or not and whether she wanted to be next to me or not,”
Chanyeol eventually sits next to me and looks at me.
“Can I ask you something?” You looked at him and nodded your head.
“What’s up?”
“Since no one is around I can finally ask you face to face... Did it bother you that I had another bias in your group...” You looked at Chanyeol and you can tell how hesitant he was to ask in the first place.
“No,” you lied.
Your Interview
Interviewer: Did it bother you?
You: “Okay I know Chanyeol and I just recently ‘become a married couple’ but it did bother me just a little. I feel like the reason it kind of bothered me is the fact that I’m not sure whether Chanyeol regrets participating in this show being couples up with me,”
Chanyeol’s Interview
Interview: “Do you regret participating when we got married?”
Chanyeol: “No. I feel like after meeting Y/N in person and having the opportunity to get to know her... I might end up changing my bias after all,”
~
“I’m not sure whether to believe you or not... But regardless you and I get along... I’m pretty happy it was you who became my wife,” The moment Chanyeol suddenly blurts out that you couldn’t help but to freeze and look at him.
Did you hear correctly? Did Chanyeol just say that he was happy to be married to you?
Before you could stop yourself, you were already smiling from ear to ear. SHIT.
“My first smile from you for the night~ I achieved something,” for some reason hearing that coming out of Chanyeol's mouth made you smile even more. It was cute...
Chanyeol is cute...
Sure, this whole thing was set up by your manager and his but to be honest, the more you spent time with him you started to get excited for what’s to come.
Suddenly another envelope was handed to us. So far, we head on a first date, move into our new house, and do a couple of photoshoots... What is next?
“Am I the only one who’s nervous to see what’s inside the envelope?” You said as you had it in your hands.
“No... I am too,”
You opened it up and the both of you took a look at what it said.
In two days, you will have your wedding.
And so, the adventure begins
You looked at Chanyeol and just smiled...
Looks like we will have to invite our friends there too... Today was already an interesting experience as is but wait till the day you get married to Chanyeol... You had a gut feeling that it was going to be interesting there.
~
Chanyeol and you agreed to meet in a cafe and talk about your “Wedding plans.”
Talk about who you were planning to invite, where this wedding was going to be held and how you two were planning to have the setup.
“Can I be honest with you?” Chanyeol said, looking at you and you nodded your head.
“I’m scared to invite my friends again,”
“Have more secrets you’re afraid of leaking?” You asked him and he just looked at you and smiled.
“No...”
“Right...” You said, smirking as you grabbed your beverage getting ready to take a sip.
“It’s not about the secrets. It’s more like my friends don’t have filters,” you just smiled and looked at the list.
“I mean it is our wedding, you can invite however you like. I was planning to invite all of my members down, but two members aren’t able to make it due to their busy schedule,” Chanyeol looked over at you and was probably curious to hear which two...
“Oh, who’s not coming,” after hearing from Sehun about Chanyeol's bias toward your girl group it felt weird even mentioning them. In a way, you wished there was a way you could avoid answering the question, but you know you had to answer eventually. This wasn’t a question you could avoid.
“Yu-Na and Ji-Hee,” you said, and you looked at Chanyeol's facial reaction to seeing whether he was going to be disappointed about the news or not. However, he kept a neutral face which was a bit surprising for you and honestly yet relieving.
“But even though two of my members can’t come doesn’t mean I don’t have other friends,” You had an idea of who you were planning to invite.
“Well, I can’t wait to see who else visits,”
For some reason, you had this gut feeling that this wedding was going to be another interesting experience. All you have to do is wait and see.
You grabbed a whole of your beverage and felt Chanyeol looking over at you. Before you could take a sip, you looked over at him and smiled.
“Is there something on your mind?” You asked him and although you can tell that there were, there were cameras around the two of you so he couldn’t say much.
“No, I’m just wondering what my members have planned up their sleeves,” you instantly smiled and shrugged.
“Maybe some more secrets will come up,” you said, teasing him and he just shook his head.
“Or they have some prank they planning on doing,”
To be honest, as you two talked about his bandmates, you wanted to ask Chanyeol about how he felt about the fact that his “bias” isn’t going to be at the wedding, but you didn’t bother. Not because you didn’t want to make him uncomfortable, but it was because you didn’t want to get your feelings hurt.
Although this marriage is fake and for TV purposes, you still want to hear about Chanyeol thinking about another woman.
“Well regardless of what they plan on doing, I’m sure that day will be an unforgettable one.”
“I’m sure it is,”
You weren’t sure if Chanyeol was having the same sense of feeling that something was probably going to happen that day. You know when your instincts start to kick in and you feel like something is bound to happen, but you just don’t know what... That’s exactly how you were feeling. But instead of being too worried about it, you pushed your feelings aside and continued to plan your mini fake wedding.
Who knows this might be the only wedding you have in your lifetime…

ARCADIA'S LULLABY / the reboot
Genre: Mafia AU. Vigilante AU. Sci-fi (AI).
Warnings: Graphic violence, Strong language, Mature content.
Pairing: exo & Original Female Character (Jung Jiah/Kang Rina)
meet the characters
A/N: aaaaaand we're back! it's been a while. motivated by this exo comeback and a rewatch of the show that originally inspired this, I've decided to bring this blog back to life. This is a rewrite of a story i posted here a few years back. new scenes, flashbacks, plot improvements and easter eggs for part two are being added. (yes that is still in the works because this was always meant to be Part One of a series, including a bts centered prequel )
So, here it is:
Tumblr media
If there’s one thing tenacious investigative journalist Jung Jiah knows about this city, is that trust is scarce and truth is a commodity. Forced to face a haunting past and reunited with the men she once considered family, instinct tells her to run and hide.
But when she finds that her childhood friends might be hiding the key to the one story she could never solve, she’s thrust into a web of complex relationships and blurred lines between guilt, trust, and betrayal. The quest for the truth takes center stage, and it reveals a world where neon lights cast long shadows, and nothing is as it seems.
CHAPTER 1: NIGHTCALL (OUT NOW)
CHAPTER 2: AFTERHOURS (OUT NOW)

chapter 4
Okay, but when will that be?
The constant clicking of keys was your background music as your mind wandered to another dimension. It was only halfway through the day, but you feel like you're already floating away from work.
You've never seen Kyungsoo in the cafe for the past few days, and you wondered when you will see him again. Will you even see him again? If not, then why did he say that you should tell him about yourself next time? When is that next time?
"I don't think scrolling across the excel file for 10 minutes will do the work, noona."
You snapped out of your reverie when you heard your hoobae tell you that. You pitifully smiled at him, meeting his teasing expression. Being caught while being absent-minded at work by a junior is so humbling.
"Thanks for the reminder, hoobae."
"A penny for your thoughts?" Hanbin raised his eyebrow at you as he leaned back on his chair. You just shook your head as you faced the computer again. Wonho wasn't around for a meeting, which left just you and Hanbin on the same side of the cubicles. "A guy problem, huh? Is it this cafe guy?"
"Shush." You shut him up as he laughed.
"You've got a crush on him."
"I don't."
"I've met a lot of girls, and your expression says otherwise. I know that face." He smiled smugly, his chair almost completely facing you. "My girlfriend also told me before that she didn't like me, but look at her now, so in love with me as I am with her."
"No need to flex right on my face, young one." You rolled your eyes at him while shaking your head. He leaned on his palm as he looked at you with a teasing smile. "I was just wondering if…" You fiddled with your mouse, fingers slowing down on the surface of the keyboard. "I'll be seeing him around the neighborhood."
"Hmm, maybe? You said the old lady at your laundry knows him, right? He must be living nearby then."
Hanbin has a point, but you still haven't seen him around even when you were taking walks on the weekend.
Let's drown ourselves with work then. I need him out of my mind. Let's go, go, go.
You had lunch as quick as you can, too preoccupied with the work you had pending for today. Your friends just shrugged your rush as they watched you walk away with a glint of determination in your eyes. As soon as you sat back on your chair, you pulled up the tabs of excel as you took out the papers by your drawer.
You don't have any deadlines for today, but you felt like you could do the work due the next day.
Mind full of numbers, data, and analyses, you didn't even realize that it was already time to go home. You were still motivated to finish everything, not wanting to cut the momentum. Your eyebrows furrowed as you stared at the screen of your computer, fingers not stopping their movements as you input data within the sheet.
"It's past 5pm already, Ms. Nam. I think that could wait for another day."
You almost cursed as you typed the wrong number. You looked up at the guy who disturbed you. He was smiling as you felt the ache on your wrists. It was indeed a long time since you looked around. There were only two other people in the office excluding the two of you.
"I'm almost finished, Wonho. You can go ahead." You said before glancing at your watch.
"I don't know why you're pushing yourself harder today, but if you're just doing this to keep your mind off of a problem, it's going to be temporary. You'll just think about it again at home, and you won't get enough sleep." Wonho leaned his arm on your cubicle divider. You just sighed as you thought he was right. "Let's just go home, man."
You hesitated as you looked back at your screen. You clicked your tongue before saving all your progress, rolling your eyes as you heard Wonho say yes. As soon as you turned off your computer, you took off your coat from the chair and grabbed your bag. Wonho said goodbye to your remaining co-workers being the office's congenial man.
"Coffee?" He said as you stepped outside the building. Your mind instantly wandered to the possibility that Kyungsoo might be there. Wonho chuckled as he saw your eyes going in the direction where the cafe was. "Okay then. You look like you really wanted to see that guy, huh?"
"I-I haven't even said anything!" Your cheeks flushed as you looked away from the cafe, but Wonho was already walking towards it. "Y-Yah, Wonho-ah!"
"Come on, Eunjoo. I think I can see the guy from here."
Let's just say that your feet led you to the cafe without you knowing.
As soon as you entered the cafe, you were in another dimension. The door closed behind you, muting the sounds from the busy street. The smell of coffee and bread with the lovely classical music softly caressing your ears were a delight to your exhausted self from work.
"That him?" You heard Wonho whisper as you both walked to the counter. Your eyes met with Kyungsoo's as you got near. He was talking to this woman, who was obviously chatting her way as she ordered, while he tapped on the screen in front of him. You were about to wave at him when he looked away and glanced at the woman instead. You lowered your hand, ears reddening in embarrassment.
That would have been really embarrassing, Eunjoo!
"What do you want?" You blinked several times before looking at Wonho. He was raising his eyebrows at you, quite concerned about your mental state. You didn't even notice that it was already your turn to order. "Eunjoo-ah?"
"U-Uh, I'll get whatever you ordered then." You glanced at Kyungsoo, who was intently looking at you. You instantly looked back at Wonho, not finding enough courage to stare back at the man behind the counter.
"Then two of those, please." Wonho smiled at Kyungsoo.
"Alright, sir." Kyungsoo replied with his gentle voice, making you turn to him again. It felt like a long time since you heard him. What luck should you have to be able to hear him everyday talk in your ears? His eyes darted to you all of a sudden as if hearing your thoughts.
This time, you didn't look away.
You almost missed how his eyes squinted and how his lips curved. You were ready to drop dead—
"Eunjoo?"
You were brought back to reality when Wonho tugged your arm. You didn't even know that he was already done ordering! You mumbled an apology to the next customer before walking in haste with Wonho behind you, who was obviously trying not to laugh. You chose the usual spot where you sit, taking the seat that faces away from the counter.
"He's probably thinking that I'm crazy about him now." You said as Wonho took a seat in front of you, grinning at the sight of you blushing like a teenage girl. "Oh gosh, I can't go back here now!"
"Stop it. It's normal for people to be absent-minded at times, you know? Maybe you were just too tired from work that your senses weren't working well already—"
"I was obviously staring at him!"
"It's like your recharging yourself with a wonderful sight—"
"You're not helping!" You laughed at his excuse, making you feel a bit better. Wonho smiled as he noticed your shoulders loosening up. "Well, I-I don't think he noticed at all. He stares at a lot of people here, even the woman before us. It's not that obvious if I did that to him as well, right?"
"Uhuh."
"Your orders, sir." You almost bit your tongue when you heard his voice right behind you. Wonho was just politely smiling at Kyungsoo as he received the plates with cheesecakes. "Eunjoo-ssi."
"Oh, you know Eunjoo?" Wonho played innocent as he took a sip of his iced americano. Kyungsoo placed the familiar bowl with cookies beside your plate, instantly bringing a smile to your face. Wonho's eyebrows raised as he saw that, lips twitching to tease you.
Your disappointment of not seeing him for days and your embarrassment from earlier were wiped out just with a bowl of cookies.
"She's regular here, and…" Kyungsoo looked at you. His eyes are so beautiful that you would not get tired looking into them. "...we're friends."
"Y-Yeah, we are!" You suddenly blurted as you saw Wonho nodding as if nonchalant, but you can see his mind going elsewhere. "T-Thanks for these freebies again, Kyungsoo-ssi. I'd eat them well."
"Do enjoy." He smiled at you before turning back and walking to the counter again. You breathed out with a satisfied smile before taking a cookie from the bowl. You took a bite and your eyes closed at the right sweetness and saltiness of the snack.
"Wah, you're really enjoying just as he said."
"Ugh shut up." You rolled your eyes at your friend.
"He seems nice. He has this aura that will make you feel comfortable and warm inside." Wonho gestured his hands around before forking on his cheesecake. You nodded enthusiastically as you munched on your cookie. "The customers also seem to be fond of him."
"Well, not only is his personality swoonable, but he's obviously handsome. I get why people are fond of him." You shrugged as you took a bite of the cheesecake.
"Hmm, I think this guy likes you."
You coughed as you looked back at Wonho, who was nodding to himself as he stared somewhere. You glanced at where he was looking and saw Kyungsoo behind the counter, not as the cashier but as the barista this time.
"W-Why? What made you say that? I know we are friends, but lying to me for the sake of—"
"He delivered our orders." He answered as if it was the obvious answer. Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"He always does that with others like the older customers and children. I don't see why…" Your voice lowered as your lips pouted a bit, thinking that you might be more special than you thought. You slightly curved your lips as you sipped on your iced coffee.
"Oh, oh look at this woman." Wonho chuckled at the sight of you suddenly getting shy. "He might be doing the serving all the time for the people he likes. He got back behind the counter as soon as he served our orders. Well, it's bad to keep your hopes up, maybe not?"
"You really just cheered me up just to bring me down, huh?" You tsked at your friend as he shrugged at you while munching on his cheesecake. "I'll figure it out somehow when we get to talk again, but he's always working and I haven't seen him at the laundry shop again." You mumbled as you took another cookie from the bowl.
You were about to take the cookie into your mouth when you saw a little pink paper further inside the bowl. Your eyes widened as you instantly ate the cookie before getting the paper. Wonho was texting at the moment, his eyes squinting in concentration, so he didn't notice you reading the little paper in your hand.
I've been all around working, so I haven't seen you. I'd like to invite you to dinner. My shift ends in a bit. I know the perfect place for this cold weather. My treat, of course. - Kyungsoo (010-XXX-XXX)
You quickly took the note inside your pocket and glanced at the counter as casually as possible. Kyungsoo was busy cleaning up the counter, focusing on the smallest dirt that he could find on the corners. His lips were slightly pouting as his eyes were full in concentration.
So hardworking.
"I got a message from my uncle. I'm needed at the meeting he's having with the partner company. I was gonna go home, ah shit." Wonho said with a frown before emptying his plate.
"You can go. I can go home by myself."
"I know you can." He nodded as he looked at his watch. "Let's finish up then, so it won't get too late."
"Uhm, I'd like to stay for a while. You can go ahead." You smiled. He looked at you with a questioning gaze before glancing at the counter. "Yeah, I won't stay long outside so don't worry."
"Hmm okay. Just message me when you get home."
It was a few minutes before 6 in the evening.
You went to the bathroom to freshen up and check your emails. Your eyebrows furrowed when you saw a message from your sister. She doesn't really text or call you unless she wants something. At first, you were really looking forward to her messages because you feel lonely sometimes being away from your family, but then it gets a bit tiring hearing just requests and demands from her.
I want we-miss-you and take-care messages too.
You didn't click on the message and decided to open it once you got home. After washing your hands and checking your face, you left the bathroom to go back to your seat. You saw Kyungsoo already talking to his coworker before leaving the counter and going to the back door.
"Maybe he's done already." You mumbled as you decided to wait outside. You already saved his number on your phone, so you texted him that you would be waiting outside. Walking to the door, you realized that you would be really meeting with Kyungsoo outside of work hours and not just coincidentally.
When you got outside, the city lights were dazzling to see along with the buzzing of people and the night sky. It was chilly, making you grip your coat closer to you. You watched as the cars passed by you, people conversing as they walked on the sidewalk, the smoke coming from some vendor stalls right across the street, and—
"Eunjoo-ssi. Sorry for making you wait."
You looked at the casual dressed man right beside you. His hair was a bit messy while his shirt was a bit crumpled as if he was rushing to get ready and out of work.
He still looks cute though.
"N-No, it's fine. I enjoyed the freebies anyway." You chuckled as you tapped on your stomach. "So, where's this perfect place you were talking about?"
He brightly grinned as you mentioned it. He gestured for you to follow him.
"You won't regret coming with me, Eunjoo-ssi. It's nearby, let's go." He said as he moved to the side of the pathwalk where the road was.
You walked side by side, arms touching a bit from time to time as you admired his side view. The silence between the two of you was a bit awkward, but nothing felt more comfortable being beside him. He really exudes that aura that makes you feel warm and safe. In contrast to your observant and alert self, you didn't even realize that you've arrived at your destination.
"We're here, Eunjoo-ssi." Kyungsoo said as he looked at you, who just got to see where he brought you. "I don't know if this is the kind of place that you were expecting, but the food here is like no other."
"It looks really homey here, I like it." You said as he led you inside the cabin-like restaurant. It wasn't that big, only a few tables and a counter near the kitchen, which can be seen from the entrance. Although small, there were a lot of happy people talking with sizzling food on their table. There was music in the background, but it was not too loud to overpower the conversations in between people.
The decor was not extravagant and just minimal, while their lights were warm but energizing in the eyes. Traditional patterns were also on the walls, so they must be serving local food here.
Must have warm soup, kimchi, mandu, and—
"Oh, Soo-ah! You're here!" The old man with an apron came out from the kitchen, smiling big as soon as he saw Kyungsoo. He welcomed him with a pat on his shoulder before looking at you. "Wohoho, you brought a girl with you this time, huh? Finally found the one?"
"Ahjussi, stop that. She's a friend of mine. I'm shamelessly advertising your restaurant here, please." Kyungsoo waved off the old man's teasing while your ears reddenned. You just smiled at him as you bowed a bit in greeting.
"Hehehe, please do take a seat. I'll serve you the best of our menu, oh, but that will be everything on the menu though?" The old man laughed as he gestured to the empty two-seater table nearby. You chuckled while Kyungsoo pulled the chair for you.
"Then let's get small portions of each on the menu. That okay, Eunjoo-ssi?" Kyungsoo smiled at you as you sat down. You were surprised that you'll get everything as the uncle said.
"Would that be okay? I mean, wouldn't that be too many for us? And that will cost you a lot too." You panicked as you looked at the prices on the menu. The prices were reasonable enough, but addinh everything here is a bit costly.
Isn't he having trouble making ends meet? Isn't that why he takes so many part time jobs? I don't think I should make him pay after all!
"I-I'll just take the kimbap and mandu, please." You saw Kyungsoo glance at the cook, who just nodded at him. "A bottled water will do too."
"Okay then. You heard her, ahjussi. Thank you." He said before taking a seat in front of you. He placed his bag under the table, getting comfortable on his seat.
"I see that you're a regular here, Kyungsoo-ssi." You looked around the place and observed the interior more. "I didn't even know it was near the business street. I guess I didn't really explore that much around the district."
"Well, I started working at the cafe just half a year ago. I was always all over the place when I moved to the city." He narrated while placing the utensils near you and the seasonings as if it was a habit. "I had a really tiring day, and I wanted to treat myself for doing a good job for the day. But everything was expensive in the business street and I was trying hard to save up, so I walked all around the place and…" He gestured his hand to the entrance. "I found this place. They were having a buy one take one promo on that day, and it was the last day. I could smell the beef and tteokbokki from the outside. The cost was also worth it, I didn't go home disappointed."
You were smiling as he was showing different expressions as he told his story. You couldn't have imagined that he could make those faces. The Kyungsoo that you have just seen was a smiling and polite one, but this one, you really didn't regret coming with him tonight.
"B-But I didn't invite you here because I'm trying to save money! I was just thrilled to let you experience and taste the food here. The food is not only good, but it's not that expensive so it's a win-win thing." He said in haste while you giggled at how he was struggling to say the words. "And…" His voice lowered a bit, making you calm down before your heart pounded faster again.
"I don't just bring strangers over, okay? I was happy to invite you and share this place with you."
"Here are your orders, Eunjoo-ssi, Kyungsoo-ah." The old man served the bowls of kimbap and kimchi with a smile on his face. You didn't get to talk as Kyungsoo instantly helped him bring the tray over to your table. Your cheeks would have fallen off with how huge your smile was.
"It smells really good, ahjussi. Thank you." You commented as you looked at your bowl. You thought that he was done serving your table when he took another tray full of other small portions of each in the menu. "Oh, I don't think we ordered—"
"Thank you, ahjussi. They look amazing as usual." Kyungsoo cut you off as he helped the old man place the bowls and plates on your small table. "We'll eat them well!"
"You better." The old man smiled at him before looking at you. "Enjoy the food, Eunjoo-ssi. I made them with all my heart! Finish everything, okay?"
You glanced at Kyungsoo who was preparing the utensils from the container that you'll be using, wiping them with tissue before placing them on the side of your bowl.
"I'll eat them with all my heart as well, ahjussi."
"We'll eat well." Kyungsoo said before looking up at you, his gentle eyes sparkling under the warm light. "I hope you like it, Eunjoo-ssi. This one is really my favorite."
I don't think it's a bad idea to fall and keep my hopes up, Wonho-ah. Ah, I'm getting in trouble.
"It's really warm." You smiled as you put your hands together. Kyungsoo hummed while placing side dishes in your bowl without a word.
Somehow, it felt like you could get used to this.
The buzzing you felt on your pocket pulled you out of your thoughts. You glanced at Kyungsoo who was enjoying his meal, and hesitated to touch your phone in your pocket. It was on silent, but it kept buzzing.
"Kyungsoo-ssi, is there a bathroom here? I think I need to go."
"Oh, right that way." His eyes looked over beside the kitchen where a hallway was at. "Just take a turn and you'll see the door sign."
You quickly stood up and said excuse to go to the bathroom. He looked a bit concerned with your uncomfortable expression, but didn't ask. As soon as you got inside the bathroom, you took out your phone and saw your sister calling. You answered the call before you even get to think about the reason why she is calling.
Probably going to ask me to buy her a new dress for an event.
"Eunae-ah." You greeted her.
"Unnie! I've been calling you for hours! We're at the hospital, mom's in the emergency room! We need money! I-I don't know what else to do. D-Dad's not around." Eunae's trembling voice rang through your ears, surprising you with a panicked voice and not the usual demanding one.
"H-Hospital? What-what happened to mom?" Your legs almost gave up, but your other hand gripped on the sink. You could hear your younger sister's sobs while explaining what happened.
"I just got home from school when I heard dad and mom fighting. T-There's something about having another woman and-and mom was freaking out, and then I heard a thud from upstairs. I was scared to even go up, and I didn't want to see them fight." Eunae's voice was unstable, stuttering. Your eyes teared up as you imagined how hard it was for her to witness such a thing. "I just found mom struggling to stand up when dad left. I figured that d-dad might have hit her. She just passed out right after."
You let out a frustrated breath as you looked up at the ceiling. You thought that your parents' relationship got better when you left home, but you didn't expect that they would do this with their daughter around. Eunae didn't deserve that. You wiped your cheeks which were stained with tears.
"Eunae-ah, calm down, okay? Your sister will solve this. I want you to stay focused on getting mom feel better, and be strong. I know it might be hard after that, but you don't have any choice but to do so." You swallowed the lump on your throat. "I'd be sending money later, don't worry. I trust that you'll help mom manage the funds. Comfort mom, okay? Tell her that you're with her all the time, and that you'll help her around the house. D-Don't order her around."
"I-I understand, unnie. I will do that." You could hear her sigh in relief.
"Did she have many bruises? What's her state now?" You were nervous as you asked her the details. You love your mom although most of the time she was very demanding and selfish, but you know that it was rooted somewhere within her experiences. You just love her without judging her, the same with your sister and father.
"She's stable. The doctor said she must have been under so much stress and exhaustion. Her arms got a bit of bruises, and her cheeks were swollen. I didn't even notice that…" Eunae cried.
"I-It's a relief she's stable now…"
Before you could even speak more, a knock interrupted you.
"Eunjoo-ssi, you okay there? You've been inside for a bit." You heard Kyungsoo's worried voice behind the door. You instantly pulled yourself together before replying.
"I-I'm okay, I'll be out in a second. Sorry."
"Okay." He said in a hesitant voice before you heard him walk away. You sighed before going back to your call.
"Eunae-ah, I'll go back home this weekend. Hold on a bit, okay? It's going to be fine."
Going back home was a delight for you before, but now, you don't know what to feel anymore. After a bit more of reassuring and comforting your sister, you said your goodbye before Kyungsoo got more concerned. You got out of the bathroom and saw him almost standing up again. When he saw you, he sat back again.
"I'm sorry for worrying you, Kyungsoo-ssi. I got a call from my younger sister, so it took a while." You forced a smile at him when you sat back down, trying to make it a light matter. But Kyungsoo must be a mind reader as he looked into your eyes.
"I understand. Everything fine with her?"
"W-Well, I suppose it's fine for now. I'll be going back home for a while. I need to check up on them." You nodded to yourself, avoiding sharing unnecessary personal issues. "I miss my family too, you know."
Kyungsoo just hummed in reply, but his gestures were comforting already. He placed a warmed up soup beside your bowl, and placed the freshly cooked mandu near you. You wouldn't have thought that deeply about it, but being in a very emotional state, you noticed how much he was being considerate to you tonight. You smiled.
"Thank you, Kyungsoo-ah."
His eyes widened at your tone. Your voice was so soft that he might have not heard it if he wasn't focused on you enough. His eyes stared into your tearing up ones, breath almost stopping with your sad eyes.
Once again, you made his chest tighten as if you had his heart in your hands.

A Manor of Shadow and Blood
Tumblr media
Genre: Regency Gothic AU
Pairing: EXO x Reader
Summary: A stormy night brought you to the manor in the middle of the woods. Nine strange men occupied its halls. They won't let you leave. A dangerous secret haunts this estate. Learning it might either be your saving grace or it could lead to the last breath you ever take.
Part: 1 I 2
**
The fever took over almost as soon as you left the bathroom. Your feet had become heavier, like lead refusing to be moved. Your vision went black before you made it to the bed. Consciousness came and went, images you weren't sure were real or not blurred your vision. A man wiped your forehead with a cloth. Another fed you salty broth. Two more held you upright as someone changed the sweat-soaked pillowcase. The last image you remember was the lingering presence of someone near the doorway. All you could register was his short black hair and white tunic. He turned from the bed and walked out of the room as you fell back asleep.
*****
A long groan rumbled your throat as your eyes blinked open. The fever that had consumed your body was gone. Your rough tongue scraped the roof of a mouth desperate for moisture. Every limb was sore from not being used. A small pain still pushed at your head, but it was bearable.  Only a small measure of light broke the edges of the curtain. It was either barely dawn or the very end of twilight.
"It would seem you're past the worst of it."
You gasped at the unexpected voice. Junmyeon emerged from the shadows and stood at the edge of the bed. He tilted his head, the upper half of his face still cloaked in the darkness.
"I was sick," you stated to no one in particular. Perhaps in mere confirmation for yourself.
Junmyeon nodded. "You had a fever for two days".
"Two days!" you gasped. You were supposed to arrive to your aunt today. If you didn't show–
An echoing thud interrupted your thoughts. You sat up slowly, groaning at the protest of your arms and torso. Junmyeon kicked the familiar chest on the floor again. Excitement pushed away all remaining consequences of the fever. It was your trunk with all your things. Soon, you could be on your way again, with a harrowing tale for your worried relative.
"We found it this morning," he explained. "Along with the driver."
Your heart leapt. "He's–"
"Dead. Probably broke his neck from the fall." His voice was void of empathy. Death–at least the kind not directly in contact with himself–did not affect him. "The carriage isn't salvageable. and the roads are still practically swamps.”
Each breath you took in came faster and faster, more shallow than the last. How could the roads still be unfit for travel? The room began to tilt. "So, what does that mean for me?" Perhaps you would have to wait for a replacement carriage or for your aunt to come get you herself.
He looked to the door with a resigned expression. "You will stay here until we deem fit."
"What!" You scrambled out of the bed. Your knees buckled as soon you feet touched the rug. Going so long without proper nutrition and being sick with fever left you weak. Junmyan caught before you could be injured, sweeping you up into his arms. A mild shiver chattered your teeth. Through your thin nightgown you could feel the icy chill of his fingers. How one's skin could be the temperature of snow, you didn't know.
He laid you back down on the bed with a rather smug expression. "Traveling isn't in your best interest. You need to regain your strength."
You swallowed thickly. "And after that?"
The only answer you received was a smile.
"You can't keep me here!"
"Eat," he ordered, gesturing to the small table in the corner. A silver tray with fresh morsels sat and waited to be consumed. "You're free to roam the manor as you choose, but remember: there is nothing for miles, not even an inn. You'll meet a hungry wolf before coming across another human." He bowed as if he were a gentleman and left you alone to accept your circumstances.
*****
A small amount of strength returned to you after eating. Although fasting in protest could have been effective, you pathetically couldn't resist. Food had always been a favorite weakness of yours.
The next form of protest you tried was keeping to your room. But after a few hours of not a footstep outside, you concluded self-confinement was only useful if someone noticed.
From your trunk you pulled one of the more plain dresses that had been packed for you. It wasn't too difficult to dress yourself. The true trouble came for your hair. Despite being in bed for several days, no knots caused you pain. That, however, was the extent of your talent. Charlotte, your maid, had been the one to curl and pin your hair in the latest fashions. The best you could do was tie it back with a plain blue ribbon. Squaring your shoulders, you yanked the door open with force and shelled out of the room.
Up and down the different halls, you tried to make sense of the layout. This manor expanded in nearly every direction. You went upstairs and down again, unsure of where you were. The bit of light that managed to fight past the thick curtains that hung in front of every window grew in strength. But though the day grew older, you saw none of the residents. No sound alerted you to any being close. It gave you an eerie feeling. It was as if you were alone but an ever lingering presence haunted every corner.
You took another random left turn. And stopped.
The front door was just on the other side of this hall. You scanned the area around you. Your ears strained to hear anyone that could possibly be near. Not even a bird sang outside. You took a step. Then another. And another. One at a time, you paused between each step, waiting for one of the lords to suddenly appear and drag you back to your room.
Huh. Your room. As if your stay here would be forever permanent. You prayed that they would soon grow bored of you and send you on your way. All this could be was a terrible joke because they had no other way to occupy their time.
You'd reached the door. Possible freedom lied on the other side. Yet, your fingers hovered above the handle. Junmyeon's warning waded through your mind like a morning fog. Nothing for miles. Surely if that was true, the driver would have stopped rather than continue on in the storm.
And then there were the wolves. You knew of their existence. And how a human could be just as satisfactory as elk if they thought they could overpower whoever they came across. To them, you would certainly make easy prey.
"Doors only move when one opens them."
With a shrill gasp, you whirled around and pressed your back against the door. The one who drew your bath last night–Jongdae–was leaning against the entrance to the side parlor. He stared at you with a bored expression, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Where did you come from?" you demanded. You had looked in the parlor as you passed. No one was in there.
He waved an uncaring hand in the air. "Around. I heard you walking and when it stopped, I came to see why.”
"You heard me walking?" You'd put slippers on before leaving the room since your boots were still caked with mud. You could hardly hear your own steps against the wood boards.
Jongdae merely raised an eyebrow, refusing to explain. You huffed. The previous fright in you disappeared. Pushing off of the door, you shuffle past him and into the parlor. Your feet were beginning to pulse after walking around for hours. You sat in one of the cushioned chairs to give them some relief.
Before you could blink, Jongdae was seated in the chair across from you.
"How did you do that?”
Smug, he leaned back in his seat, crossing one leg over the other. "Would you like a tour?"
"Not if you refuse to answer my questions," you scoffed.
The corners of his lips curled upward. "I think it might be better if you figure it out for yourself. Over time."
That earned another huff. You especially disliked the insinuation that you would be here for a long while. Hope still flickered in you like a warm ember, desperate for fuel.
Jongdae stared at you quizzically. "Why didn’t you run?”
"Because, there isn't anywhere to run to," you answered quietly. You were lucky to make it here in the first place. Regardless if you were imprisoned or not, you were thankful to be alive.
Still eyeing you with that studious share, he leaned forward, his elbows resting on his thighs. "Is there another reason you don't want to leave?"
You swallowed thickly. It was impossible for him to read your thoughts. He couldn't possibly know that something else held you back. "It's safe here–”
"We both know this place isn't safe for you," he snapped. "Your instinct should be to run as far as you can.”
"B-but the wolves..." your voice trailed off, overshadowed by the thumping of your heart.
"The wolves are nothing compared to here." He stood and all seriousness melted away as he stretched his limbs. "Or maybe they aren't. Perhaps that simply depends on you." You flinched as he reached for you. He didn't pause and his fingers  passed your face, instead pulling at the ribbon in your hair until it came loose and dropped the fabric in your lap. "I wouldn't wear your hair like that.
You frowned at him. The men here weren't exactly the epitome of current style. "Why?"
“Keep pulling it back like that and you'll have your answer." He dared to wink at you before strolling from the parlor.
It took a little while to find your room again. Part of you wondered if you should have accepted Jongdae's offer of a tour. Another part stubbornly insisted you would find your own way eventually.
Sitting down at the small table, you pulled the curtain back. Your room was on the second floor, which gave you a decent view of the grounds.
Unlike most of the forest you remember seeing, this area was void of life. The trees were bare, their branches rigid and spindly. No birds or other woodland creatures scurried about. There was plenty of grass and garden hedges, but somehow all of the beauty was sapped from their blades and leaves. A few stone benches and structures were scattered about the estate, but whatever stunning carvings they used to present had been worn away. A sadness had overtaken this land, infected its very core. Not even the sunlight–now making its way to the other horizon–felt warm. How could anyone live amongst this?
All your strength gained through breakfast waned. You didn’t need sleep, per se, but rest wasn’t a terrible idea. Leaning back, you tucked your feet under you and shuffled into the corner of the chair. Your eyes slowly closed–
And snapped open at the soft knock from the door. You scowled at the door. It replied with another knock. With a huff, you stood and crossed the room, pulling the door open with force. "Yes?"
Junmyeon smirked at your hostility. "It's time for dinner."
You looked down, but his hands were empty. No new silver tray in sight.
"Dinner is with us."
Your throat tightened as his words sunk in. With them.
He motioned with his head. "Come."
"I have to change."
His eyes raked you up and down, then he raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Why? Because you always charged for dinner when you weren't dining with only your family. It simply wasn't proper to wear what you were tramping around in all day.
When you neither spoke nor moved, he reached behind you and pulled the door closed, pushing you out of the room and into his chest. He chuckled at the contact. You shoved him away. His amusement didn't waver. "The dining hall is this way."
Understanding that the only way you would eat was by following him, you complied. He led you to one of the familiar staircases, but then down a hallway you didn't recognize. The dining hall sat on the other end. Past the grand entrance was a long, dark red table that ran the length of the room with the ability to seat at least twenty. An old chandelier hung from the ceiling, a few of the precious crystals missing. A roaring fire clicked and cracked on the opposite wall.
"You'll  sit here." Junmyeon startled you as he pulled a chair just to the left of the head of the table. All the other available seats were occupied. With your chin held high, you accepted, letting him push the chair in. Then he sat at the head.
There were four chairs on each side of the banquet table, haphazardly spaced, and a lone chair at the other end. To your immediate right was the one named Yixing.  He stared at you with narrowed, interested eyes that somehow made his already sharp features lethal. You dropped your gaze instantly, finally noticing the food in front of you. Your eyes lifted... no one else had a meal, only a goblet full of wine.
"Has everyone else eaten?"
"Mm," Junmyeon hummed over the rim of his glass. When the goblet left his mouth, a faint red smear remained behind. He licked his lips slowly to wipe it away. "We don't typically... eat dinner, but thought of it as an opportunity to introduce you.”
A few chuckles echoed around the room, but the joke was lost on you.
"Eat," Junmyeon motioned to your plate. All eyes were trained on you. The silverware clinked and clattered as you picked up the fork and knife. Would the food be poisoned? Did they get some sick enjoyment from this? You cut off a small bite of chicken. Each bite was slow, testing the flavor. It wasn't beautifully seasoned, but you couldn't taste any bitter poison underneath. You swallowed and cut another bite.
Satisfied, Junmyeon motioned to the man on his right. "This is Jongin.”
"You have a pretty name," the man purred. You merely stared at him and continued to eat. He laughed from his chest. "Then Chanyeol." This one bowed in his chair with a flourish of his arm. "Jongdae." He winked. You scowled at him. "Sehun." This one didn't look at you, looking bored as he leaned back lazily in his chair, sipping from his glass. "Kyungsee at the end."
Kyungsoo, who had been staring at the table, his chin resting on folded fingers. He glanced at you but immediately looked away when he met your gaze.
"That one is Minseok," Junmyen went on. The one named Minseok smiled at you with an eerily feline grin. "Baekhyun." He, too, grinned at you in a way that sent a chill down your spine. "And next to you, I'm sure you remember, is Yixing."
You didn't look at him again. Putting down the silverware, you gave your attention back to Junmyeon. "When can I leave?"
He scoffed before he could take another sip of wine. "I already told you. Until we deem fit."
"You can't keep me here!"
"Maybe you should have considered that before you came here.”
"You might enjoy it here," Baekhyun hummed.
"I doubt it," you snapped back.
Chanyeol leaned forward onto the table. “Do you have family?"
You swallowed nervously. "Yes."
"You should ask her if she has a lover," Jongdae crooned. When all eyes jerked to him, you carefully slid the knife over to your right hand under the rim of the plate. By luck, you had decided to wear a dress with sleeves. You just needed to conceal the knife until you were back in your room.
"Do you?" Jongin asked of you, a little too interested for your comfort.
You glared daggers at Jongdae. "No, I don't."
His lips curled gleefully. "I don't believe you." He shrugged. "Then again, maybe it's not a lover that you’re trying to avoid."
"My aunt is expecting me."
"And she'll keep expecting you," Junmyeon growled.
A hand flashed out of nowhere, snatching up your wrist and catching the knife before it fell to the floor. "I wouldn't do that," Yixing warned. You tried to yank your wrist back, but he took the opportunity to bring you closer to him.
Junmyeon sighed. "Yixing.”
Revealing who was in charge Yixing released your wrist, but he put the knife in front of him. Small indentations appeared along the blade that weren’t there before. A perfect fit for a hand.
You stood with such force that your chair overturned behind you.
"Finished already?" Jongin teased.
You gave a single hard nod and stormed out of the dining hall. None of them stopped you.
"This is going to be fun," one of them chuckled. A chair scraped hastily against the floor and you hurried faster to your room.

EXO AS DADS SERIES | JONGIN VER.
Xiumin Ver. | Chen Ver. | Yixing Ver. | Baekhyun Ver. | Chanyeol Ver. | Kyungsoo Ver. | Suho Ver. | Sehun Ver.
Word count:  Author: Maari Summary: A series of what exo would be like as a parent, from discovery to growth
Sigh ok hear me out
BEST FATHER OF THE WHOLE WORLD
There's so much I want to talk about him 🤧
I think he would find out about the pregnancy even before his s/o but he would be confused like is that what I'm thinking or is it just my imagination?
I mean, he has experience with his nephews so it's not an unexplored area for him.
Like have you seen his smile when he's with children?
But I think he wouldn't say anything because he doesn't want to put pressure on his s/o.
But even if he already expected it, the moment she announced it, oh boy he would be so shocked!
I imagine the two together, alone, watching a movie or just talking sitting on the couch.
And she feels uncontrollably nauseous and she pulls away from him so quickly and runs to the bathroom
He just watches her run with a confused face like
“What... what happened?”
He goes after her because he is very worried
And he helps her hold her hair so it doesn't get dirty and he even strokes the back of her neck, trying to make her feel better 😩
And when she finishes and wipes her mouth, with him stroking her hair he asks what happened
And she replies in a low voice that she's pregnant
He's like 😳
She tries to explain that she had a bunch of tests last week and didn't tell anything because she was scared but
Se just hugs her so tight she's probably going to gasp for air.
And he starts to cry like a baby!
Out of emotion, of course, he is so happy that the only thing he can say is thank you a million times.
And that leads me to think that this man will be the most protective father in the whole word
He's the type who won't let his s/o do any kind of physical exertion at all.
Like, carry shopping bags or even put on socks when it's colder when the belly is considerably big
"I can do this you know" "You can't make an effort, imagine if the baby is accidentally born when you crouch"
And the purest father in the world too!
I think he's going to handle his s/o’s morning sickness very well
Just like the mood swing
But the day that his child will be born, I imagine him completely nervous
And it will be even worse if the baby comes early 🤣
Will definitely cry more than the baby in childbirth
But it will be worth it when he holds the baby in his arms and realizes how small he is 😭
And he will look with the biggest smile like "it's my son"
Oh yeah and I definitely see him as a father of boys. 3 to be exact
He will teach his children everything he can
From simpler things like saying daddy
Even dancing since childhood
Don't you think he won't teach his children? He will, and he will definitely buy those father-son clothes!
And he will say with great pride that he taught
Even if the moment the child says daddy he is crying too much 🤣
He's going to be a worried father, any toothache or flu he's going to want to watch his son 24/7
He's going to be as devoted to his family as he is to anything that's dear to him, and I think family is the most important thing to him
As I said, the fact that he has nephews puts him in a comfortable position
Because he already has experience and will make him closer to his children
No, but just imagine him walking with the kids, taking them to school, sleeping with them at night in his bed because I know he's going to refuse to take the kids to their room 😭😭😭
And what else can I say? LET ME BE THE MOTHER OF YOUR CHILDREN JONGIN i'm kidding chanyeol

CHAPTER ONE
Tumblr media
The imperfect day definitely exists. Not that your routine days are good, but today is proving to be a challenge. Your best friend was late to tell you that there will be an engagement dinner tonight. She is engaged to her newest boyfriend, who, by the way, despite being handsome, is also controlling. While I was responsible for confirming who will appear. You then went to the office where you work as a secretary for one of the most renowned businessmen.
"You're late, you know?" Kai says as soon as you enter the office. He is wearing a suit that is somewhat clinging to his body. Not that you should notice your boss's body.
"It won't happen again, sir. But I must point out that you almost lying under my desk is unprofessional." You say almost laughing, very subtly. He looks at you with a knowing look as if he liked what you said.
"Blessed is the day I accepted you into the company. That way I wouldn't have met one of the best people in my life and fortunately because of you, I met Luna." Luna is your best friend. Kai is kind in thanking me for having met Luna, as they actually knew each other before I became his secretary. Luna is a friend I made at school where I was a scholarship student during my adolescence. Kai and she were neighbors before Kai's parents sent him on an exchange program to a foreign country, and they lost touch. Years later, at a company gathering, Kai and Luna reunited because of me.
"I don't know if you can thank me for that. I was just the reason for your reunion. Which brings me to remind you that Luna invited you to her engagement dinner. Yes, I've already checked your schedule, and you have the evening free. In fact, you have a meeting with the majority stakeholders in an hour and lunch with that international model who was being considered as our next spokesperson. And your tie… it's a bit crooked." You speak while looking closely at Kai, reaching for the iced Americano he drinks every morning in Kai's hands, fixing his tie and collar. You can never quite explain it, but your fingers always tremble a bit when you touch your boss.
"What would I do without you?" He asks, genuinely smiling, of course, trying to pretend that Luna's wedding isn't affecting him.
"Probably get your own coffee and check your own email. Should I have someone bring your fancy black suit, in case you decide to attend the dinner?" You say as you finish tying Kai's tie. He looks surprised that you already know he's going to decline the invitation but will likely reconsider later.
"Am I going to be judged if I don't go?" He asks, and you laugh. How could your opinion matter in a matter that doesn't concern you?
"Kim Jongin. You're a grown man, and Luna is a grown woman. You have a past that I can't even specify. How could I judge you for not wanting to see the woman you have feelings for getting engaged to someone else?" You speak in an authoritative tone while staring at Kai with the most judgmental facial expression you can muster. After all, shouldn't he be the one to swallow his feelings and witness the person he desires loving someone else, just as he can't see an old flame getting engaged to another?
"I love it when I stress you out enough for you to call me by my name instead of the nickname. Go ahead and have them bring the gray suit I wore to that dinner where I reunited with Luna. I'll be at the damn engagement dinner. I hope you'll be there too," Kai says seriously as he sips his coffee, and you step back a bit. Knowing him for so many years has given you a certain confidence in predicting his actions.
"I'm the maid of honor, of course, I'll be there. But I'm not sure about the time I'll arrive; my boss tends to be very relentless and bossy. You might get there before me." You say in a playful tone. He looks at his phone, replies to two messages, and then turns to you as he prepares to enter the meeting room.
"Send me the address of the dinner, and you can take the rest of the day off. I'll be looking forward to seeing how you handle being a maid of honor." He says seriously, watching your reaction. You shake your head in disbelief.
"I don't need the day off; I'm perfectly capable of handling both business matters and personal affairs. Thought you knew that already." You say, not wanting to spend the day overthinking the upcoming dinner. Kai smiles slyly, as if to say he knows you quite well.
"Y/N, you're my employee and friend. If I give you a day off, just say thank you. And if you want, I'll let you buy a new outfit with the corporate card as a bonus for the hard work you've been putting in. Now, I'm off to my meeting, and if you're not heading home, consider yourself fired. See you later." He says authoritatively, staring at you. You're left speechless, and he walks away while you accept the offer. Sensing that tonight promises several complications, you grab your things and head home.
Continues...
