“any update from your fan?” gojo nudges him playfully as they wait for the principle of the university to introduce their band for the freshmen orientation, which, weirdly, something that the four of them never thought would happen. they sang about topics that wouldn’t normally get talked about or were shunned — politics, capitalism, authoritarianism — and yet being introduced by the principle of their place of education was quite ironic.
the bassist doesn’t hear gojo at all, not even when his best friend tries to tease him by calling you his fan. there were too many things in geto’s mind way even before this whole performance: his finals, a rival band that sought out to create false rumours about them, you.
always, you, the unexpected distracting thing that infiltrates his mind without fail. from the first night you trodded over to his dorms, opening up to him and letting him take care of you, to the many dates after. he’s taken you to cafés, watched you study way too many times, or simply let you sit through one of his song formation days.
a conscious effort to keep his distance and everything is just you, you, you, and geto is terrified. he’s never liked the kind of love with strings attached, with those mushy, complicated feelings, but no one-night stand, no quick fuck has ever made him feel the way you do.
but lately, he’s seen less of you, unwillingly accepting the principle’s offer to perform for the freshmen because he knew you were one of the group leaders ushering in the new students. at least he could try to search for you in the crowds, even getting a cheeky little text about where your group was meant to sit a week ago. he could be granted at least that when you both have been working so hard for final exams that you two could hardly see each other.
although, throughout their whole set, he sees everyone but you. he loses the bass line often, looks lost on the stage, needs to be cued in, something that never happens to the geto suguru. he’s always been a natural, and yet when it comes to you, you ruin him in the best way possible.
“hey— hey! man, what was that?” gojo slaps him on the back but it doesn’t even register in geto’s head, not really bothered by how he messed up the performance if it wasn’t for gojo’s vocals and shoko adding in her own improvisations for her parts. nanami can only shrug as he comes around to geto’s front.
“she wasn’t there, i looked, too,” nanami mumbled, tapping his drumsticks on his shoulder, “but you’re the most passionate guy i know who loves his guitars and bass lines.”
gojo has to chime in, “he’s the only bass guitarist you know, nanamiii!” and shoko pulls him back with a smack to the back of his head.
the dark-haired guy only clicks his tongue, “sorry ’bout him.”
nanami waves his drumsticks before pointing them at his face, “i know you’re obsessed with her, but i don’t wanna be a drummer if i can’t work with my bassist. sort this out before our next gig. she’s a sweet girl . . just, not when it’s at the expense of the band.”
geto only sighs in relief, landing a hand on his drummer’s shoulder.
“thank you, nanami.” the two exchange smiles before he gives a salute to his other two friends (“do you think he finally loves someone enough for him to be distracted on stage?” shoko says, and gojo gasps dramatically), heading out from the wings and down the stairs at the front of the stage where people look confused at the recent performer looking high and low for where your group was meant to be seated.
he sees not you, but rather your group leader mates who he’s at least seen pictures of, so he has no qualms about heading over to ask about your whereabouts — “the last thing she told our head group leader was that she was down with a nasty flu . . terrible fever and all. our main group leader went to her dorms to check on her and she’s unfit for doing orientations activities. we just sent her loads of soup packets and pei pa koa’s.”
geto laughs at the last part, knowing your need for sweet things. when it’s combined with a soothing coating for your throat, it’s pretty much the only thing you take when you’re sick. with a quick thanks, geto races for the campus bus straight to your dorm, the bass carried on his back rattling with his capo, chord sheets and mute nosily.
at least your annoying roommate’s gone home before school starts so it’s only you when geto knocks on the door. his knuckles rap against the wood, heart breaking when he hears your hoarse voice answer from the other side. soon, he can hear your feet moving towards the door, but it takes a while from how your body is, knocking over some things in the process.
“c-coming!” you groan out, wrapped in layers of clothing and feeling so hot you feel like you were in hell. but you aren’t expecting the sight when you open the door: your boyfriend panting, the guitar case behind him only telling you he’s come straight from the freshmen gig, the expression on his face.
“s-su!” you exclaim, both excitedly and a little worried because you didn’t want to get him sick, something you regret immediately when you go to clutch your throat.
“oh, baby,” geto brushes the hoodie off your head and brushes away the mess of your hair, “you look so pale, i— i would’ve come sooner if i knew—!”
“that’s why i didn’t tell you,” you pout, pushing away his hand gently and stepping back. it hurts to speak, but you feel like you at least need to explain your absence to him, “i was afraid you’d ditch the performance. also— don’t want you to get sick.”
suguru’s expression softens, “don’t worry about me, doll. come,” he takes one more step towards you and you feel so safe with him you don’t take a step away, “let me take care of you.”
the next hours are full of geto, a revered bassist in an upcoming band who dons long hair, piercings and has a menacing dragon down his arm alongside some boots, taking care of you. he runs back and forth between the pantry to make sure you have enough hot water, boiling hot soup to drink, enough layers to keep you warm and even calling gojo to get some tylenol from the supermarket.
“take a breather, sugu, i’m not gonna die,” you laugh slightly with a rasp to your voice, squeezing his hand as you rest against his shoulder. he’s made sure you at least have something in your stomach and enough hot water to power a hot spring, worry showing through his heartbeat when the hand he holds is still so warm.
“you’re heating up loads, baby,” geto frowns, turning his head to plant a kiss on the top of your head. he rolls his eyes when he hears it’s because you’re here. “do you want me to put cool towels on your head?”
you giggle again and cough, sniffling the mucus back up your nose, “no, it’s okay — you’d have to go to the pantry again to get water and i just want . . you here.”
suguru only hums, something akin to a melody that you don’t quite know but you’re happy to listen to his gruff voice anyway. the way he vibrates as he hums sends a calming feeling right to your body, and how he looks and feels so different from the very first time you were alone together.
he seemed so cool, passing the blunt to you and blowing his smoke into your mouth, kissing you like you’re just another girl in his roster; but right now, you were far from it.
now, not only is he still cool, but he’s also the most caring person you know and is something so far from his appearance and band: this is just one in many instances of how much he takes care of you. from the same fingers that strum upon the stainless steel, they travel miles over your body, your face like the first songs he learned on the guitar, weaving a melody and language so intricate only the two of you speak it.
silently, you feel him push you forward while he slots his legs on the other side of your body, letting you naturally rest with your back to his chest. “wanna learn?”
“i am in the most terrible state, suguru,” you whisper, reaching over to take a tissue. there, you blow your nose and clear out your nostrils until the next round, groaning softly at the grossness of the tissue.
“ohh . . but wasn’t someone saying that she isn’t dying?”
your jaw drops, “i can’t believe you would use that against me.”
the corners of your boyfriend’s lips turn up in a sly smile, “just quoting my girl. but—”
this time, he’s the one reaching over much further than you, hand clutching the neck of the guitar through the bag. gently, he settles it on both your laps, laughing when a small oof leaves your lips at just how heavy his bass was.
“i’ll do all the playing, you just mirror my movements.” with one more kiss to your temple, geto reaches around easily to play the starting notes of psycho killer. while there’s a clear layering of the lead, vocals and drums in his head, you’re just left confused by the repetitive bass.
but soon, you’re able to catch the notes that repeat over eight counts, hypnotised by the other’s longer fingers as they transition into the chorus line. it’s a little more complicated, now, descending into chords that you frankly don’t have any grasp on. one look at your face is enough to send him into soft laughter.
“okay, okay, let’s just focus on the verse.” if you weren’t feeling lightheaded from the fever before, you are now when geto curls his hands around yours, placing your finger easily on the fifth fret of the first string.
“so here . . we have the first bar of A notes, easy? then . .” he demonstrates the first four notes, plucking the strings for you before moving it down to the third fret to play the G note. a small smile spreads across his face when you slowly get the hang of it: six notes of A, two eighth notes, and then a G on the same string. geto slowly releases his left, letting you play on the melody while he helps you to pluck.
“that’s it,” still natural, it doesn’t faze geto at all to nuzzle his head into your neck from behind and to start kissing up your shoulder to your jaw, fingers still expertly plucking the string. the both of you repeat the bass line until he’s grabbing your awkward right hand and quietly, he angles your fingers so you’re following him, “you’re a fast learner.”
“i have a great teacher,” you mumble, and suguru doesn’t tell you that you just willingly kissed his jaw out of habit — because he knows you’d freak out at the possibility of getting him sick. it’s sweet, that in your delirious state you’re still acting out of admiration at the back of your mind. like the bass, loving geto feels as natural as the repetitiveness of psycho killer.
the bass notes reverberates through your bodies, just almost acting like a trance that makes your fingers falter upon the steel strings. he goes on to slowly play the chorus, stretching his fingers into weird shapes. he plays various chords, voice cracking just a bit when he tries to sing the vocals and you laugh softly.
“i just don’t have satoru’s higher register.” geto jokes, knowing you’re close to falling asleep from the way you hum and give one worded answers, so he easily takes over from you, changing it to an easy song. you let the low notes of the bass serenade you to sleep as you curl more into your boyfriend, but not before you hear a glimpse of geto’s harmonised singing to yellow.
it’s not often you hear him sing, being a bassist and all, but there is a nice edge to his voice — not quite made for vocals but you know he can do it if he tries. and even if you don’t voice it out, geto thinks the same thing. it’s similar to this stupid love thing that’s got him all tangled up and distracted, too, and he realises so many new things about himself through you.
you give love a fresh breath of life, nothing like the things suguru sings about in his unfinished demos and notebooks — multitude of things that involved you and his fucked-up perceptions and the foolishness of his parents telling him he’d find the same. you are all he thinks about when he sees the black cough syrup and he can’t stop craving the feel of your body against his.
the moment your breathing turns even and you sag against his embrace is when the strings stops and his breathing escalates. in geto suguru’s arms is the personification of something he never thought he would let into his life, yet you carry the choirs of love and acceptance so effortlessly like heath’s bass guitar solos and atsushi sakurai’s spotless vocals.
suguru’s head simply falls onto your unknowing shoulder, a small fuck that leaves his lips and a smile that he can’t contain is all he needs to know.

What kind of nu metal music fits Les's band?
First of all I gotta clarify that I sent this ask myself because I accidentally lost the original through constant editing and drafting. I realize I could just make a regular text post but I'm quirky like that, and a question is a nice little attention grabber for those who are interested.
Anyway...
It's hard to point at one song and say this is their sound, because A: I'm picky, B: the band's style changes over time, and C: I don't know what I'm doing lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This answer is very long uhh I don't seem to be able to form short responses, mi scusi 😅
Back at home the brothers' music and then also the first year on the road with Flea the band sounds like the albums Music and especially Grassroots by 311. (Grassroots is such a banger of an album, I listen to it all the time, really recommend.)
Hed's the main influence on the band's sound because he's the main vocalist, songwriter and overall the most invested in the band succeeding (Les's main concern is making ends meet, and Flea is just enjoying the ride lol). At the start Hed and Les have had basically no contact with Rock Trolls so even though they're both more metal/punk than regular rock, their "rock side" is softer at this point. Hed also grew up with hip hop because of his peers so there's a lot of rapping in his lyrics. And he also incorporates reggae into his style a lot because of his favorite uncle, Kymani (one of the guys who live with Ish) who is a Reggae Troll. Hed is pretty much a sponge when it comes to music, much like Floyd. The closest I can come to describing his genre is a fusion of Rap Metal and Reggae Rock which are both already fusion genres jskksdjsk
(The band 311 has two singers and oddly they both sound like Hed and Les to me. SA Martinez (the higher of the two voices) sounds 100%, exactly like how I've imagined Hed's voice in my head. For Les I have a different voice claim because Les's personal style of music is much different from the band, but Nick Hexum (the lead vocalist here) is still in the second place when it comes to voice alone. Imagine my enthusiastic surprise finding voices for both brothers in the same band 😄)
examples from the two albums:

...
While driving around and performing small gigs they come in contact with the alternative and nu metal scene and meet a lot of Rock Trolls (mostly various Metal Trolls) and other mixed trolls, and in the following couple of years their sound gradually becomes heavier (Hed rediscovers screamo lol) and they go from rock to metal.
A year into their "touring" is also around the time Hed meets and starts dating Liv and gets her to join the band. Liv's genre has the heaviest sound of all of them (Industrial/EBM), which influences Hed and the band too. And with Liv on the drums, Hed takes over DJ-ing and is also able to put more focus on the vocals, which also makes Les step down and only sing backing vocals with the rest of the band if needed.
The band in this era sounds like the album Revolution by Insolence and to some degree Introduction to Mayhem by Primer 55.
examples from the albums:
youtube
youtube
youtube
...
Two years into the bands existence is when Floyd runs into them. At first he's more just standing there, observing their practices and performances warily, because he's had bad experiences with Rock Trolls in his one year alone and metal music still kinda freaks him out at this point. But he soon starts joining in in melodic parts and then it progresses into him singing longer and longer segments because he has the strongest vocals of everyone. And once he saves enough of his earnings for a guitar he starts playing the rhythm guitar too. (The guitar he took with him when he left the Troll Tree got stolen before he met the band.)
I guess I should clarify: Flea is the lead guitarist, Les is the bassist, and Liv and Hed switch on the drums and DJ-ing depending on the track. At one point they also get a keyboard.
It's also not that long before Hed and Floyd start actively writing songs together, sharing each others notes, and they start to split the singing parts more evenly. Hed even teaches Floyd screamo techniques, because he thinks Floyd has a great voice for them (He is correct, Floyd has a mean scream 😁).
During this time the band still pretty much sounds like Revolution by Insolence but with more melodic singing parts from Floyd (and screaming/shouting lmao). I think Verge of Umbra is another good band to compare, it sounds more clean and Floydy but still Hedy. (Man, I should write scientific research papers skjdkjf)

From here on out I'm a bit unsure how the band's sound develops, but I'm pretty sure Floyd would unintentionally infect them with a mild case of radio friendliness (Pop trolls can't help their in your face nature lmao 😞). So for now I'm stopping here...
This took me days of searching and writing so I would appreciate to hear any thoughts you have if you've come this far and given some of the songs a listen. :)

I wrote this tirade about the Gavinners' theme in my notes app months ago but I had no Ace Attorney fans to share it with but I have a tumblr blog now so I will unleash it upon all of you:
We only know 2 of the 5 Gavinner members. There have to be 5 since there are two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, and a keyboard player as established by the instruments in Turnabout Serenade. But the only ones with canon appearances and names are the guitarists, Klavier Gavin and Daryan Crescend. Since we know less than half of the band, it sends my mind running who the others could be. It would have been so fun to see all the designs of the band, but we don’t! So I just have to imagine what they look like, possibly based off of Klavier and Daryan. Some people have made their own headcanons and fanart, and I like them but I feel like there’s an important matter they never touch on.
As far as Klavier goes, his design is straightforward.
Tumblr media
(sorry his png is so damn big. I figured out how to edit in html to make the image smaller but every time I save the textpost draft it undoes my edit. no I will not open a photo editor to size him down)
When I show a picture of him to my friends who haven’t played Ace Attorney, they ask if he’s a rockstar. And he is! His design conveys the fact. He’s also a lawyer, so his style strikes somewhere between courtroom attire and rockstar. A lot of the Ace Attorney designs are fun and great at conveying character, and I’d say Klavier is a pretty solid design.
But then there’s Daryan, who is dressed like a shark.
Tumblr media
Idk if anyone else agrees but I’m not a fan of Daryan’s design. I also don’t really like him as a character either tbh. If he wasn’t holding a guitar, would it even be clear that he’s a rockstar? All the Gavinners members are part of law enforcement, but you can’t really tell Daryan is a police officer either. His design kind of bewilders me. With Klavier, you can tell a lot just by looking at him. What comes to mind when you look at Daryan is “shark man”. I mean, shark man’s a sick design concept, but I don’t like looking at Daryan! I think it has a lot to do with his ugly ass hair. His hoodie’s fun, but I don't like his hair. It's an unfortunate shape. And I think the people agree: half the fanart I see of him, they change his hair.
Usually with bands, you expect them to share a common style. But in the rock band the Gavinners, one of the members is dressed like a rockstar, and one of them is dressed like a shark. Like, I guess you could argue that Daryan is kind of in line, and his fashion fits into the rocker style. But I don’t know, in my mind the fact he’s a shark guy makes him very inconsistent with Klavier to me. So that got me wondering, what percentage of the Gavinners is dressed as rockstars vs Gavinners dressed as marine animals? I thought through some of the possibilities and proposed the ones that are funniest to me
Ratio 1 - 4 Rockstars to 1 Marine-Themed Star
This would mean Daryan is the odd one out. The weirdo who is a little too into Sharkboy and Lava Girl. A band of 4 guys who wear similar rockstar styles and then there’s just Daryan in his shark hoodie.
Ratio 2 - Split 2 to 3 Either Way
In this scenario, the band can’t agree on what their theme is. Half are dressed in chains and leather, the other half are out of a marine biology textbook
Ratio 3 - 1 to 1 to 1 to 1 to 1
The Gavinners has no theming in the costume department. Each member is dressed however they like. Aesthetic nightmare
Ratio 4 - 1 Rockstar to 4 Marine-Themed Stars
I imagine it like this:
A 16-year-old Klavier Gavin walks into the studio, which at that time is the Gavin family’s garage. The Gavinners have just come together recently, and are rehearsing for their first show. But when Klavier enters, he finds his band mates are dressed up as a shark, a wrasse, a clownfish, and a lobster.
Klavier is confused, because he thought that the Gavinners was going to be themed after Klavier Gavin. He expresses this thought to his band.
Daryan tells him that since Klavier decided to name the band after himself, it was only fair the rest of the band mates got to choose the theme. And they were all super into sea life, so they dressed up as their favorite marine animals.
Klavier is annoyed they didn’t talk through it with him and says that maybe their theme is getting a little muddled. But since they’re all so enthusiastic, he’ll try it out. And he wants to be a merman.
All the other members side eye Klavier. A merman isn’t a real animal, they tell him. Maybe he could be a manatee, a seahorse, a sea angel, a parrot fish? All of those creatures are just as majestic and beautiful as mermen, and they actually exist. Despite Klavier’s protests, the rest of the band does not budge. They persuade him to be a parrotfish.
The day comes for their first show. They got Klavier a parrotfish costume, which he keeps making faces at as they set up.
Klavier tells the other Gavinners he doesn’t want to wear the fish head hat since it will cover up his fresh haircut, but they insist he should. As they get ready in the dressing room, Klavier excuses himself to the bathroom.
When they’re called to the stage, Klavier has not returned. They assume he might already be onstage, or will be there soon. As they all get there and Klavier does not, they start to feel concern. Klavier is their lead singer and guitarist. He’d been thinking of nothing but their show for days, so it’s strange he’s suddenly missing. They ask the manager to delay the curtain call for a few minutes. The manager denies them, saying they’re on a tight schedule and they don’t want to delay the performers coming after the Gavinners. The band considers going into the bathroom to check on Klavier, or if they could perform without him.
As the curtain begins to rise, Klavier finally walks out on stage and joins the rest of them. But he’s not in a parrotfish costume. He is in a matching black shirt and pants combo with silver chains. Not even close to being parrotfish themed. The bandmates are shocked, but know they can’t make a fuss about it when the show is starting. They give him glares while they play. But they know they must look so bad when they’re all dressed up as various fish and an arthropod while their lead singer isn’t. The performance is received well despite the tension, but there are some mild comments on how strange the costuming is. Once it’s over, the bandmates confront Klavier, but he absolutely refuses to dress as a parrotfish for any of their future shows. When they realize they can’t change his mind (and they still won’t change their minds about letting him be a merman), they agree to just go to shows that way. Four of them dressed up as ocean animals, while the lead singer is not.
Over time, the other bandmates eventually give up on the whole marine life shtick. If they’re not all coordinated, what’s the point? And from their dressing room in the AA4, it looks like the band’s styling is in line with Klavier’s. But as the other members shed their marine life costumes, one keeps his through it all: Daryan. As the band builds regard and a fan base, he remembers how Klavier ruined their theme. So many of their arguments over the music and the band image are started because Daryan is secretly wounded no one dresses up as a fish with him. Now this gets into theory territory because I believe this could be his true motivator in Turnabout Serenade—

Heya! I just got into Sleep Token and I'm enamored! Do you know of any links to posts or anything that talk about the characters and their personalities onstage? I'm having trouble differentiating between III and IV (I know II is the drummer) and I want to learn more about them!
Also, is it pronounced Two, Three, and Four, or Second, Third, and Fourth?
Hi and welcome! 😊 Glad to see a new fan of the band. For the sake of clarity, I'll answer your second question first. The Sleep Token lore technically dubs them all Vessel 1, Vessel 2, etc. so it's my understanding that fans started calling the other band members Two, Three, and Four, and used Roman numerals for their monikers.
TLDR: This Weblink has almost all of Sleep Token's lore, and This Video also has almost all of Sleep Token's lore. The easiest way to tell III and IV apart from each other is by their instruments and height. III plays bass and is taller than the rest of the band. IV plays guitar and is shorter than the rest of the band (except for II, he is the shortest of the four).
I'll be honest, I also had trouble differentiating between III and IV when I first got into the band. Up until very recently, they wore similar outfits, too, which made pictures difficult to tell them apart. You can always tell via the instrument they're holding (if it's visible). III is the bassist and IV is the guitarist. Another way to tell depends on which side of the stage they are standing on. 85% of the time III is stage right, in front of the choir (Vesselettes) and IV is stage left, in front of II's drum set. My favorite way to tell them apart (before it just became secondhand nature to know which was which) was if the musician had a bun under his mask or not. IV's hair is relatively concealed beneath his mask, but III has longer hair and puts it up into a bun to keep it all in place under his mask during rituals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The neck of III's bass is kind of in the way of the back of IV's head in the second photo, but here are two examples of the bun shape that III has. This is also a good way to tell them apart if they're standing next to each other, or, in this case, kissing. III is extremely tall and will always be taller than any other band member unless he's crouching or leaning over. If the two aren't standing near each other, you can always use Vessel as a measuring stick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The photo on the left probably isn't the best reference, but trust me, III is about 5 centimeters taller than Vessel, he's just leaning back. The photo on the right also probably isn't the best since Vessel and IV are both just dark shapes lol, but at least it's obvious that Vessel is taller than IV.
The band as a whole is anonymous so you might not find much in the way of personalities, even of their stage personas. If you're willing to read up on the Sleep lore itself, you can do that here (this is a link to boolintunes.com). Or, if you'd prefer to watch a friendly, lecture-style video, there is this one here on YouTube. Persona-wise the most concise I can give you is this:
Tumblr media
Vessel is very emotional. That is evident by the lyrics he writes, but doubly so when he is in front of an audience. He will cry, he will laugh, he will do silly dances, and he will hype up his bandmates. It's evident that he loves what he does, but he is also extremely humble about it. All of the love his fans give him he makes sure to give back 110% (the fact that he manages to do it without speaking is impressive in itself).
Tumblr media
II is a beast, like no joke. This man has got to have started playing drums before he could walk, I swear. He, like Vessel, obviously loves what he does, has a blast, and also gives zero fucks while doing it. He will sit at his drum set and kick out beats while drinking Red Bull and Diet Coke through his mask 🤣🤣 During moments in songs where there is little to no percussion he'll often stand up and react to the lyrics Vessel sings. He also comes to the front of the stage at the very end of rituals to hype up the crowd and hand out his used drumsticks and sometimes even a drum head.
Tumblr media
III is the most animated of the guys. I will often refer to him as the "main character" of Sleep Token because he is always front and center. This has also earned him the fandom nickname of Bassy Boi. I've seen him do everything from windmill headbang, to run in place, to high kick, to jumping up and down for 30+ seconds straight. He also has a knack for yelling at fans. There is a compilation video on YouTube here for reference. Also! Something I forgot to mention earlier in telling III and IV apart: III almost always has on his iconic checkered socks in the most recent shows.
Tumblr media
IV (at least the current IV) is probably the most reserved and collected on stage (fun fact, there were two other IVs in Sleep Token before our current IV, I wrote about that here), In earlier shows he played with the band, around 2021/2022, he used to be fairly shy. Sometimes IV would stand off to the very side of the stage and let Vessel and III have all the attention. Luckily he's seemed to get past his shyness and has become much more of a crowd pleaser. He'll often do things like serenade the crowd (a bit like II does, only a lot closer since there's no drum set in the way), get roped into Vessel's or III's chaotic stage antics, or, you know, tease pulling his mask off in front of an entire music festival crowd.

“Chrissy and I are dating.” were words Y/N L/N never thought would leave Eddie’s mouth. Eddie Munson was the complete opposite of Chrissy. Chrissy was sweet, chirpy, and a cheerleader. Eddie spent his free time smoking, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and playing as a guitarist in a metal band.
Complete opposites.
Y/N and Eddie had been best friends since the day they met when they both started their school years at Hawkins Elementary School over ten years ago. Over the past ten years, they had countless late nights playing guitar, planning D&D campaigns, writing songs, watching movies, and much more. Y/N also spent the last seven years in love with Eddie, the mere crush starting in their early middle school years.
But, she knew she couldn’t compare.
As she spent every day pining over Eddie, watching as his eyes sparkled when acting as Dungeon Master, or when his face beamed with enjoyment as Corroded Coffin brought in some of the biggest crowds the Hideout had ever seen, Eddie spent his time watching Chrissy during pep rallies (which, if you knew him, he hated pep rallies), or at lunch surrounded by the football team and her fellow cheerleaders.
“You and Chrissy? I love ya, Munson, but I really don’t see it.”
Y/N shrugged, looking up from the notebook she was absentmindedly doodling in. Eddie’s crestfallen face caught Y/N’s attention. “I just mean that you two are totally different. You think it’s really going to work out?” Eddie nodded, simultaneously shrugging. “I mean, if you really want to, go for it. No one can stop you, Eds.”
But, maybe she could, Y/N thought.
Y/N had to act, and fast. So, the next day at school, she sprinted to Jason Carver’s locker. “Carver, I need to speak with you.” She planted her feet on the ground, making it known to him and the other basketball players that she wasn’t moving until he followed her. Jason raised an eyebrow. “Don’t you have somewhere to be? Trailing behind Munson and the other freaks?” Y/N glared at him.
“That’s what I need to talk to you about.”
She began speaking in a hushed voice so only he could hear her. “Eddie and Chrissy are going out. I know you love Chrissy, I can see it, and I…” She huffed. “I love Eddie, a lot. I have for years now, and when he told me last night, I freaked.”
Jason froze in his spot, the hand that was on his locker door turning a mix of red and white because of the grip he had.
“I figured you and I could do something, to stop it, or, or something. I don’t know. But, we need to be fast about it.” Y/N clutched her notebooks to her chest. She noticed Jason looking at her out of the corner of his eye. “If this is something you want to do, meet me after school by the bleachers.”
Y/N then turned and walked away, not looking back at him. She hoped this would work. It had to.
So, there she sat after school. Her feet tapped against the metal bleachers as she waited for Jason to hopefully arrive. “So, what’s your idea?” Y/N jumped in her seat, turning and facing Jason. “I don’t know. That’s why I asked you here. We need to figure something out that’ll stop the two.”
“How about fake dating?”
Had it been any other time, the idea of fake dating Jason Carver, the biggest jerk in Hawkins, would’ve made Y/N laugh. But, because of the unique situation and the severity of it, she didn’t think twice. “Okay, deal. But, knowing Eddie, he’ll see right through it. We’ll have to make it believable.”
Y/N and Jason sat on the bleachers for an hour talking about what they had to do in order to make it feel real to everyone on the outside, and discussed when the time would be to break it off. “Okay, so after Chrissy eventually leaves the fre- Munson, that’s when we’ll call it quits.” Y/N nodded. “Yes, but not too soon after, or they’ll suspect something.” Jason nodded. Right, it had to be believable.
The two dispersed, going their separate ways for the last time until they had to be close for who knows how long. Y/N just hoped this would work. She loved Eddie, and she wanted him. Y/N knew in her heart that she and Eddie belonged together.
Morning came quickly and Y/N got ready for school, making sure to call Eddie and tell him that she didn’t need a ride. She hoped that would cause a reaction out of him, considering that ever since Eddie could drive, he drove the two to and from school every day.
The honk of a car horn made Y/N run down the stairs and outside.
Jason sat in his car, looking at Y/N as she ran towards his car. “Ready to go?” She nodded, giving him a small smile. “Let’s just get this over with…” Y/N got into the car, buckling her seatbelt as she watched Jason pull away from her house and head towards Hawkins High.
Seeing Eddie’s van parked and Eddie running over to the passenger side, opening the door, and helping Chrissy Cunningham out of the beat-up vehicle was not something Y/N ever think she’d witness, so when she did, tears filled her eyes.
She noticed Jason’s grip on the steering wheel get tight and then loosen just as quickly.
Y/N felt Jason’s eyes on her. His hand found a place on her shoulder. “Hey, the sooner we get in there and start this thing, the sooner it’ll be over and I’ll be with Chrissy and you’ll be Munson’s.” Is Jason Carver comforting her? That’s also something she never thought she’d see, but, it was Hawkins, so anything is possible.
Jason got out of his car and ran to the passenger side, opening the door for Y/N. She stepped out and noticed people beginning to stare. “Just follow my lead,” Jason whispered against the shell of her ear. His hand found the small of her back as he began to walk, Y/N quickly following his footsteps until they were perfectly in unison with one another. “This okay?” Jason looked down at her, watching as she nodded.
“Yeah, this is fine.”
Jason opened the main door to the school and let Y/N step in first. Once they got through the doors, his hand found her back again as they walked to her locker. “If I remember, this is yours.” Jason stood next to Y/N as she put the combination in and opened her locker. Y/N collected her books just as the bell rang, and the two intertwined hands again, walking down the hall once more.
“What class?” Y/N snapped out of whatever trance she was in and looked up. “Huh? Oh! Uh, English.” The boy nodded, leading her to the classroom. “I’ll see you after class?” He spoke in a hushed whisper, leaning against the wall as students passed by, giving the two confused glances.
“Yeah, see you after.”
On an impulse once more, Y/N leaned up, kissing Jason’s cheek, and then quickly slid away from him and through the classroom door. Jason stood there shell-shocked. Hours later, it was the time that Y/N had been dreading all day.
Lunch.
Now, she’d have to face the entire Hellfire Club, including Eddie. “So, are you going to sit with them today?” Jason looked down at the girl who stood across from him but still in a close proximity. “I have to, or they’ll definitely know something is up. Besides, I can tell them then and get Eds’ reaction.” Jason nodded, leading the fake couple to the cafeteria. “Do you want to come and sit with us?” Y/N looked up at him hopefully. “Just to sell it more.” She added, which made Jason huff in annoyance but ultimately agree.
Y/N led the two to the Hellfire table.
“Hi, boys.” She spoke with a smile. “Hi, Y/N!” Dustin spoke, choking on his milk when he looked up and saw who was standing next to her. “Uh, you all know Jason. Jason, these are the guys.” Eddie raised an eyebrow at the girl. “Sweetheart, what’s Carver doing here?”
Showtime.
Jason wrapped an arm around the girl’s waist, making Y/N fake a satisfied giggle. “Well, Jason asked me out. I’ve kind of liked him for a while, so I said yes!” Y/N smiled widely, catching Eddie’s off-guard expression. “You and Jason?!” Mike exclaimed, groaning as Dustin elbowed him.
“They’re joking. Right, guys?! We’re happy for you, really! I mean, come on, guys. Y/N’s happy so let's be happy for her.”
Y/N couldn’t help but smile at this. “Thanks, Dustin.” She
If it was going to be like this every day, he’d bet that Chrissy and Eddie would be broken up by the end of the week, if they were lucky.
But, it had seemed their luck ran out.
Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. It had been almost four months since the unlikely pair began their fake-dating plan. But, so it seemed, Y/N and Jason had grown closer because of this. Instead of doing things like kissing, holding hands, and being attached at the hip when all eyes were on them, they’d do the same in the comfort of their homes, when it was just the two of them.
“What are we?”
Y/N reluctantly pulled away from Jason’s lips. Her arms stayed wrapped around his neck as their eyes met. “What do you mean?” Jason raised an eyebrow. Y/N cleared her throat. “I just mean we’ve been doing, uh, this for a while, and there’s not a label on it. I mean, Jason, we had started this to get Eddie and Chrissy. Obviously, things have changed, feelings have evolved, and we should talk about that.”
Jason nodded, sitting up straighter and looking at Y/N as she also adjusted her position. How a fake relationship turned into this, they’d never know. “I want you to be my girlfriend. I’m over Chrissy, honestly. She’s in the past.” A small smile lit up Y/N’s soft features. Jason took Y/N’s hand in his own. “So, what do you say?”
Y/N didn’t say anything, and instead, leaned forward, placing a kiss on his lips.
On the other side of Hawkins, Eddie sat in his trailer, strumming on his guitar. A loud knock alerted him to a visitor, which he assumed to be Chrissy. He walked quickly to the door, swinging it open revealing the blonde. “Milady.” Chrissy didn’t smile or laugh like she normally would, alerting Eddie to the fact that something was possibly wrong.
“Chris? What’s wrong?”
Chrissy’s eyes finally met Eddie’s. Her once sparkling eyes were now filled with tears. “I can’t do this anymore, Eddie. I-I love Jason, and I’m sorry it took me, uh, this long to realize that. I just can’t be with you when I love Jason, plus... I see how you look at Y/N.” She laughed through her tears.
“You should go for it, Eddie. She’s a great girl.”
Eddie nodded. “I was going to talk to you about that too, actually. But, Chrissy, we’re screwed. If I know Y/N the way I do, she genuinely likes Carver..” Chrissy shook her head, refusing to believe the words coming from Eddie. There was no way quiet, shy Y/N loved loud, arrogant Jason Carver.
Absolutely not.
“Okay, so what do we do? We need a plan…”
The next week, Chrissy stood by Jason’s locker while Eddie stood up against the wall across from where Y/N was currently sitting in her math class. The bell rang, making Eddie take a deep breath. “Now or never, Munson. Just get the girl.” He mumbled to himself as the door swung open, swarms of students filling the halls.
“Eddie?”
The name felt foreign on Y/N’s tongue. The two stared at each other for a while. “I need help.” Eddie finally broke the silence. “Oh! Are you okay? You and Chrissy?” Eddie closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
“There’s this girl.”
Y/N nodded slowly, not understanding the confusing, secretive wording. “And... I think she and I are more compatible than Chrissy and I. I mean, this girl, she’s unlike anyone I’ve ever met.” Y/N stood there, her arms crossed at her chest as she held her textbooks, listening as Eddie talked about this dream girl.
“So, why are you with Chrissy, and not this supposed dream girl?”
Eddie ran a hand through his curls. “That’s the thing. I ended it with Chrissy, but uh, this girl… She has a boyfriend, and she’s happy, so I’d hate breaking them up… You know?” Y/N nodded, truly hearing her best friend for the first time in months.
Y/N looked down at her watch. “Shoot, I’ve got to go, Eds. I’m sorry. Jason’s going to get worried if I don’t go meet him right now..” She gave him one last smile and a farewell nod before turning and walking down the hallway.
“I love you!”
The girl froze so fast that her shoes almost tripped her. Her body tensed up as she repeated the words in her head. I love you, I love you, I love you. “W-what?” Y/N’s voice felt hoarse as she spoke, afraid to speak louder than the current volume.
“I love you, Y/N. You’re the dream girl. My dream girl. I’m sorry it took me longer to admit it. I, Eddie Munson, am the biggest fool on the planet.”
A soft giggle made Eddie’s head perk up and look at the girl who had turned to face him. “Took you long enough, Munson.” Y/N’s hand cupped his cheek as she got up onto her tiptoes and kissed him softly, but passionately enough to let Eddie know she loved him just as much. “Can’t believe it took me fake dating and actually dating Jason for you to come to your senses…”
“You what?!”

Lollapalooza
Tumblr media
Summary : Matty surprises you during your set at lollapalooza and you two sing together
Paring : Matty healy x singer!reader (she/her pronouns)
Warnings : None
Word count : 1.5k
The song they sing is “Everything has changed” by Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran
Tumblr media
“Hey everyone” she said into the mic as she finished up her opening song, the crowd screamed back at her in response. “It’s so cool to be playing lolla this year! I’m happy i get to see all of your guys beautiful faces” she said, her eyes scanning the sea of people that were stood infront of the stage. Part of her is still in shock that this was a real moment, she never thought she’d end up here in Chicago playing for atleast over 500 people.
“Well enough of my talking lets get into the next song!” she shouted, the band took that as their que to begin playing. She was having the time of her life jumping, dancing and singing onstage, but something was missing in this moment, or more like someone. Her boyfriend Matty, who had been unable to make it because he and his band were on tour for their new album. Besides the facetime calls and the photos, the two hadn’t seen each other, in person at least, for over a month, something which was rare since the two live together and are virtually inserable.
After the next song finished she said “This next song is very special to me because my boyfriend and I wrote it together” the crowd cheered at the mention of matty “ I know he may be watching this livestream from his hotel, so matty if you’re seeing this this ones for you baby I love you”. One of the crew members ran onstage and handed her her guitar, she quickly tuned it before saying “This is Everything has changed” and quickly began strumming the familiar tune.
All I knew this morning when I woke
Is I know something now
Know something now I didn't before
And all I've seen since 18 hours ago
Is brown eyes and freckles and your smile
In the back of my mind, making me feel like
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you, know you, know you
'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello"
And your eyes look like coming home
All I know is a simple name
And everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
You'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday
Is everything has changed
She was about to start the second verse, the one that matty originally sings, when she heard that all too familiar voice. She quickly whipped her head around to the side of the stage to see her boyfriend, mic in hand, walking over to her.
And all my walls stood tall, painted blue
And I'll take 'em down, take 'em down
And open up the door for you
And all I feel in my stomach is butterflies
The beautiful kind, making up for lost time
Taking flight, making me feel right
Tears pricked at her eyes as he stood in front of her, singing the lyrics towards her. “Matty” she whispered, still not believing this was real, she thought he wasn’t able to make it due to having a show in New york that night, but here he was onstage standing infront of her singing their song. The crowd cheering for the couple, is what snapped her out of her trance, luckily for her her guitarist took over for her so she could be in the moment with matty. He quickly reached out his hand for her to take as they began to sing the pre-chourus
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you, know you, know you
Matty pulled her into his arms as the two continued to sing. He gently placed his forehead on hers as their bodies continued to sway with the music.
'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello"
And your eyes look like coming home
All I know is a simple name
And everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
You'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday
Is everything has changed
When the bridge came up matty took her hand and spun her around, so her back was pulled flush to his chest and his free arm was held around her waist. She leaned her head back against his chest as she put the mic back up to her lips and sang
Come back and tell me why
I'm feeling like I've missed you all this time
And meet me there tonight
And let me know that it's not all in my mind
Matty quickly placed a kiss to her cheek, before she sang the closing pre-chorus by herself
I just wanna know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just wanna know you, know you, know you
She intertwined their free hands together as matty joined back into the song.
'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello"
And your eyes look like coming home
All I know is a simple name
And everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
You'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday
Is everything has changed
After the two sang the last lyric, they turned to face eachother, Matty cupped her cheek and pulled her into him, closing the gap between the two. The crowd went wild as the young couple kissed eachother, “I love you” she whispered after pulling away from the kiss, “I love you too baby, in fact I have a question” matty said, as he pulled away from her grasped and slowly lowered himself down onto one knee, pulling out a small velvet box. “Matty” she whispered, happy tears now flowing freely down her face as The crowd cheered loudly, but the couple couldn’t hear it, they were too focused on eachother to realize that this was happening infront of over 500 people.
“You’re the love of my life, my rock, my muse, I love you forever and always baby. Will you do me the honour and be my wife?” he asked, slowly opening the small box to reveal a small gold ring with a diamond on top. She nodded her head gently “yes, yes matty” she smiled, pulling him up from the ground and into a kiss.
Pulling away from the kiss, Matty took the ring from the box and gently slid it onto her left ring finger. “I love you so much Y/n” he whispered, before pulling her back into another kiss. “I love you too baby” she whispered back, “As much as I love to jump your bones in this very moment and celebrate I have to do one more song” she whispered away from the mic. “No worries baby” he responded, turning around to leave, but before he could walk away she grabbed his hand.
“Wait matty can we do our other song?” she asked, hoping hed agree to sing with her on last time. “If the crowds ok with it, then I am too, the boys are even here if you want them to join” Matty said, as he gestured over to his bandmates, who were standing on the side of the stage. “Why not we’re engaged why not celebrate” she said, and quickly hurried to her band to tell them the situation, they all agreed and walked off stage.
Matty waved the boys onstage, and when the 3 men appeared from offstage the crowd went wild, realizing what was about to happen. “Ok everyone to celebrate, we thought we’d sing ‘About you’, if thats ok?” she said, facing the crowd, which cheered in response.
With that the boys got into place and began the familiar tune.
Through the whole song the couple stayed wrapped around eachother, never wanting to let go. “Thank you everyone I love you all!” she said, blowing kisses into the crowd and waving goodbye to them, as she made her way offstage.
“Well congratulations you two” George said as he pulled the couple into a hug, the rest of the boys following him in the same action, “Thank you” she responded, the grin never leaving her face as she hugged each of the band members. “We’re gonna get something to drink so you guys can talk” ross said, as the three men walked off.
“How are you here matty I thought you had a show” she said, “Well we did but i lied about the location, we’re not playing in New York we’re playing here in Chicago” he chuckled, “I wanted to surprise you” he said as he pulled her impossibly closer to himself. “Best surprise ever” she whispered before connecting their lips, “Can’t wait till you’re my wife” he whispered back, “Y/n healy has a good ring too it doesn’t it” she smiled widely, “That it does baby, that it does” matty said, the smile never leaving his face.

omfg i'm sorry to rant but i NEED a sympathetic person to hear this. i like the every single album podcast more than most swifties, but today's ep -- and the last few -- are driving me insane. i am so fucking sick of hearing nathan and nora wring their hands over what joe might deal with. all harassment is bad, but i am done pretending that jake g and john mayer went through….any kind of wringer? they had like...a semi-awkward couple of weeks? jake is still a mega a-lister and john mayer is widely considered to be one of the greatest living guitarists. fuck, what mayer did was outright predatory -- and he's done it to multiple women -- and lbr, he lives 99% of his life totally unperturbed by it. he's not losing gigs or status in the places that matter to him; i suspect a lot of swifties aren't aware of this but i'm a guitar nerd, and uh, yeah, he's considered a living god and no one gives a shit what he did to taylor. and literally everyone woman in the public eye, including taylor, goes through worse every single fucking day, even at their heights of popularity. i don't know how to deal with hearing nathan and nora worry about :(((( omg what will joe go through :((((( when he's never going to have disgusting ai porn of himself explode across twitter on a random weekday. maybe i feel this strongly b/c i work in games, where hordes of male fans regularly ruin random women's lives because they animated a female character wearing a t-shirt instead of a string bikini, but i can't deal with this anymore. these men are fine. lots of people get mad at them, but it's because they did truly shitty things to her and she refused to absorb it silently. then it breaks, and their lives go on.
---
I feel like Nora really articulated what Anon was trying to say the other day about along the gist of "I hope something really bad happened to justify all of this." Interesting perspectives! Btw I just want to be super clear that I don't think Taylor or anyone has to justify anything like that! Just thought it was interesting how Nora put it in the latest episode and T's power is the unusual part of this equation.
---
In a very classic "I thought the two of you should meet!" re: today's The Ringer / Every Single Album pod episode.
I will say I read both of these messages before listening to the episode myself and tbh I think Nora ultimately landed in a pretty middle and reasonable place (it started out pretty rocky though) by the end of the episode. My understanding is she ultimately felt like Taylor has every right to tell the story that she wants / needs to tell and the work will speak for itself. That this is Taylor going face to face with the elephant in the room and (probably - we don't know obviously) not obfuscating the reality that we all saw play out in real time behind 'fictionalized' half truths roleplayed by semi-imaginary characters. And at the end of the day the (likely - AGAIN WE DON'T KNOW) reality is that she's prepared to walk through the narrative that is this pressure cooker storyline many are waiting with baited breath for which is the deterioration of her most significant relationship to date.
All that to say is that I think both of these points are incredibly valid. I personally have a lot of feelings wrapped up in it that do tend to come down more on the side of it's strange that the default position is this desire to sign up as first in line defence attorney for a man when the crime as we know it is 'woman writes her life into art'.
Nora interestingly noted that there's a "pressure for this album to come with receipts" (paraphrase) based on this (fan) hyped up narrative of something sinister having gone awry that this album will pull the curtain back on. And if it fails to do that, enter said self-appointed attorneys.

Seemingly inescapable whenever you turned on the radio last summer, Harry Styles’ As It Was was one of the biggest hits of 2022, and remains on heavy rotation today. It topped Spotify’s end-of-year list of the most popular songs, and hit number one in the US and UK.
The song was co-written by Tyler Johnson alongside Kid Harpoon and Styles himself. Johnson and Harpoon both have production credits on the track - as they do on Watermelon Sugar, another Styles mega-hit - but as Johnson explained to Music Week [Paywall] last year, the creative process behind the two songs was very different.
“[Watermelon Sugar] took a while and As It Was was more speedy, right out of the gate,” he says. “Harry was sitting on the Moog One and I liked what he was playing, so I sat down and played as he started to write the melodies and the lyrics. Tom [Hull, aka Kid Harpoon] did a half-time beat around it, we were like, ‘No, it’s not right.’ So then Tom played the double time beat, which felt very good.
In terms of harmonic structure, As It Was has been compared to a-Ha’s Take On Me. As John Mayer demonstrated during a recent live performance, the two songs share a similar chord progression - ii-V-I-IV - but As It Was has a very different, highly distinctive topline.
“I said to Harry, ‘We need a lead line’ and he just came up right away with the ‘Dah, dah, dah...’ part,” reveals Tyler Johnson. “He didn’t hesitate. Then he started writing the second verse and referring to himself in the third person. So much of this song just came from Harry’s heart. And then Tom, as he does, with this magical sense of hooks that he has, came up with the idea of doing, ‘You know it’s not the same…’ after the chorus, which I was very impressed with. That turned out to be a very smart move.”
The song came together quickly, then: “Really, the record was about where it’s at now after three or four days,” Johnson recalls. “It didn’t go through a lot of [changes], there was never anything drastic. I had a guitarist friend, Doug Showalter, add electric guitars and some transition sounds. Then we got the tubular bells - another Harry idea - and I’ve got a video of him playing those. We had Mitch Rowland come in to do some live drums. We chopped those up for the ending to give it a more bombastic feeling.”
The best thing about As It Was is just how effortless it is, how it just flows over you and gives you a good energy.
Having a real drummer, it turns out, is important for Johnson, Harpoon and Styles. “For As It Was, we were thinking 2008-2012 indie rock, MGMT, Phoenix, Passion Pit. We want to be referential and for the music to sound familiar, but our process is that we don’t do as much drum programming as live drums. That’s what people in that era were doing to make things sound big, but not too programmed. Our engineer Jeremy Hatcher really helped shape that, those drum tones are unique in pop.”
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Kid Harpoon threw another influence on As It Was into the mix: “I’m sitting there on the drums and I was like, oh, this could have a Strokes kind of vibe,” he said. However, while he acknowledges the debt that As It Was owes to other artists and songs, he also firmly believes that it has its own identity.
"You get to the end and you hear it and you go, oh, it’s got the sort of A-ha references and the Strokes references and maybe there’s a bit of Talking Heads in there and then it becomes something bigger than the sum of its parts.”
Perhaps the relaxed vibe of As It Was stems from the fact that it was recorded in the living room in the home of A&R man Rob Stringer’s house, a place conducive to chilling out, you would have thought.
“The living room was actually a very perfect size for a control room, nice and tight but kinda long,” notes Tyler Johnson. “The back of it had a couch, an upright piano and windows that looked out over some fields, and in the front we had the desk. We rented a ton of gear, all the walls were lined with preamps and compressors. Even though we were going kind of bedroom-y, Tom and I just love lots of microphones and we do live drums, analogue synthesisers, multiple guitar amps… We love that whole element to recording.”
It was Styles, it turns out, who pushed for As It Was to be his album’s lead single. A wise move, it turns out, given its subsequent success.
“The best thing about As It Was is just how effortless it is, how it just flows over you and gives you a good energy,” thinks Tyler Johnson. “It has a gentle conversation with the listener while being upbeat. It’s easy to consume, but it still has depth and Harry brings so much character to it. Really, pop is just about people living life with music to garnish it.”

See ARCH ENEMY Perform In Shenzhen, China With New Guitarist JOEY CONCEPCION
Tumblr media
The Anty Krist YouTube channel has uploaded video of ARCH ENEMY's May 9 concert at NuBond LiveHouse in Shenzhen, China. The show was part of ARCH ENEMY's 2024 Asian tour, which kicked off on April 24 at Musinsa Garage in Seoul, South Korea.
Last December, ARCH ENEMY announced that it had "amicably" parted ways with longtime guitarist Jeff Loomis.
ARCH ENEMY founder and chief songwriter Michael Amott said in a statement: "It's been a joy having Jeff play with ARCH ENEMY for close to a decade, we truly had a blast touring around the world together! We were friends long before we played music together and we remain even closer buddies now, which feels great. We respect that he's in a place and time in life where he needs to step out of ARCH ENEMY and we all wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
"The only constant is change, and this is one of those moments where things had to change a little to move forward in a satisfactory way for everyone involved. With all that said, we are extremely pleased to announce that we have recruited Joey Concepcion as our new guitarist! Joey's a phenomenal talent and has been a friend of the band for a long time, he even filled in for Jeff on a couple of European festival shows back in 2018.
"We have touring and a myriad of other exciting things coming up on the horizon with ARCH ENEMY for 2024 and beyond and are thrilled to move forward, creating the next chapter and keeping the metal flowing!"
Loomis commented: "My time in ARCH ENEMY has come to an end. I have had a great time (9 years!) of playing and touring with them, but now it's time to enter a new chapter in my life. I wish Alissa, Michael, Sharlee and Daniel the very best and consider them all lifelong friends. I'd also like to thank the crew that have always been nothing but kind to me. Their hard work and dedication towards the band is incredible, and we wouldn't be able to put on the great shows without them. Thank you again for all your support over the years and Happy New Year."
Lastly, Joey Concepcion had the following to say about joining the ARCH ENEMY fold: "It's an honor and a privilege to be working with ARCH ENEMY and I'm very much looking forward to shredding stages across the globe together, playing for and meeting all the fans!"
Jeff, who was the main songwriter in his previous group, NEVERMORE, joined ARCH ENEMY in late 2014, but was not involved in the writing for the latter act's last two albums, 2017's "Will To Power" and 2022's "Deceivers".
In a 2018 interview with All That Shreds, Jeff said that he had "a lot of musical ideas" that he was hoping to contribute to ARCH ENEMY in the future. "I did write three or four songs for ['Will To Power'], but they didn't make it, only because it wasn't in the style that they were looking for," he said. "Fortunately enough, I was able to play guitar solos on the latest album, so that makes me happy."
Seven years ago, Amott said that Loomis is "a strong songwriter" in his own right, "but not in the style of ARCH ENEMY, I feel. He's always writing and recording with his own stuff," he explained. "He has a project called CONQUERING DYSTOPIA, he has his solo stuff, [and] he obviously wrote most of the NEVERMORE stuff. I've always respected him, and continue to respect him, as a guitar player — he's amazing and an amazing human being; he fits in perfectly. [There's] a great chemistry [between us]. But, you know, I've always written most of the music, so it's difficult to… I don't really wanna change the sound of the band too much. The band sort of started around my songwriting and my ideas, and those continue to be the most dominant ones, I guess. But, you know, who knows [what can happen] in the future?"
Loomis's second and latest solo album, 2012's "Plains Of Oblivion" was produced by Aaron Smith (7 HORNS 7 EYES) and featured cover artwork by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design, who had previously worked with ALL SHALL PERISH, THE END and XERATH.

May I ask for some head cannons of Kaeya if he was a singer and he liked his guitarist girlfriend? :3
NO OMG CRYING I LOVE THAT GRRRRRRRR
Tumblr media
I think Kaeya as a singer has this perfect mixture of a breathy voice and stability behind it. He's got amazing control over his voice and uses it to make anybody who listens to him swoon.
It comes as no surprise he's got a loyal fanbase, easygoing personality mixed with incorrigible charm capturing anybody's heart as soon as they saw him. He's got the stage presence, kindness, and talent needed, which means it's no surprise he caught your attention when you started working with him.
First, it was meant to be a project or two, nothing too long term but Kaeya seemed to struggle a lot specifically with your part. He was texting you a bunch, asking you to come out and see him so you can try and record again. You didn't mind, finding that it was fun to spend hours with him in the recording studio.
One thing led to another and soon enough he was asking you out to dinner, claiming that it was to celebrate the completion of your project. He was nervous and nowhere near as eloquent as he normally is, finally able to confess near the end of the meal to your joy. You happily accepted his feelings, now sitting on his patio on a cool spring day with the breeze blowing through the hair as you two both tried to work on a new set of lyrics.
The soft humming of Kaeya's voice was dangerously soothing, your fingers lightly plucking at the strings of the guitar. You felt so distracted, trying not to let your nails catch as you drooped slightly, trying not to fall asleep.
"Hey, am I that boring I'm losing you?" he teases, coming over to the swinging chair and taking your guitar from you.
"Your voice is just so nice," you yawn, leaning against him. "I can't help but fall asleep."
"We're supposed to be working." There's a slight teasing bite to his tone, nosing against your cheek and pressing kisses to it.
"Serenade me, pretty boy," you mutter, resting your head against his chest.
"Is that all I am to you? A jukebox?"
Despite his "scolding", he can't help but hold you even closer to him, humming aimlessly until his tongue finds the path it wants to take. The words are finally coming to him as he affectionately cups your face, letting his love for you spill onto the sheets of paper.
It was another day of recording. Kaeya was being oddly secretive, not letting you hear or see the lyrics he finally finished agonising over. He seemed to have gotten a second wind on the project, writing out some tablature for you to follow to get the recording done.
You've been practising for a while and whenever Kaeya shows you what he's been doing with the guitar he records from you it's clear you're going to be the main focus instrumentally. The guitar is given the spotlight, soft and gentle amongst the other instruments he's laid underneath.
Finally, it's time for you to hear the finished product, Kaeya pulling you onto the couch in his studio. He puts you on his lap facing away from him, arms wrapped tightly around your waist as he fiddles with his phone, getting ready to play the track.
"You've been staring at the WIP file for a while Kaeya. I can't hear it if you don't press play, you know that, right?" you tease, unable to turn around and face him with how hard he's holding you.
"I know, I'm getting there. I'm just thinking about what it'll be like to perform it," he mutters.
"Really? Is it that different than your regular songs?" You feel him shake his head, sighing as he finally presses play.
His voice sounds soft and the music envelops both of you in the studio. You slowly catch on to what his reservations were, face flushing as you figure out it's a love song to you. The lyrics are just unabashed adoration for you and you can hear the smile in his voice as he was recording, finally managing to fight his grasp and turning to throw your arms around his shoulders.
"You are so sweet," you grin, peppering kisses all over his warm face.
He looks a little sheepish, smiling awkwardly as he takes in your praise.
"It's my love letter to you. I don't express myself the best when we're together but I found it easier when I was writing with you asleep with me," he admits, showing you that shyer side of him that he tries to keep buried down but can't help around you.
"Thank you Kaeya, really."
He gives you a soft kiss, first to your lips before continuing to your cheek and down to your shoulders, hoping to fluster you before you totally shut him down. It doesn't work the way he intends it to, now stuck listening to the song on repeat but your dancing around the studio makes him happier than he could ever imagine, deciding to let you listen to it to your heart's content.

I found this cover song https://youtu.be/4yf0tEad5_c?si=7Fn8W4SKcMpAcBb4
And now I’m thinking of a bass guitarist flirting with Adam by serenading him, and Adam starts playing along on his own strings, turning it into a bass/electric guitar duet between the two. Basically replying that he’s into it without directly saying so. Like maybe it’s easier for him to admit in music form
Fuck, Adam's love language is music and no one can tell me different. Like him trying to talk about his feelings? He can't fucking do that. Singing tho? That he very much can do. Also changed the lyrics a lil to match em more
Slow Dance with You
pairing: Adam x male!reader
warnings: language
note: beta read by @drxgonspine
Tumblr media
Adam and you were walking through the park that was located closest to the houses you and him lived in. You had texted him that you were gonna go on a walk to clear your mind and just as you had been about to leave, the first man had knocked on your door, stating that he would join you. There was truly no reason for him to do so, you did not need protection, not in heaven. But he had made it clear that you were either going with him or not at all and given that you and Adam were close anyway, it was fine by you.
But that was the thing that bothered you, that made your mind all messy and that had been the original reason for you to go on that walk in the first place. Adam and you were close, like best friends kind of close. That, however, was not how you saw him though, you longed for more, and it seemed that you had caught feelings quite a while ago, but it was Adam.
There was never a good time to talk about feelings with him. He was not good at providing comfort, he had never learned how to do that so you really could not blame the man, but that resulted in him avoiding serious topics of any kind because he did not want you to end up sad or hurt as long as he can’t fix that. So it was mostly stupid shit that was spoken between the both of you - which you did not mind, there was a reason why you had decided to stay friends with the first man at all. And yet the thoughts would not leave your mind.
The thoughts of how all you would have to do was to reach out and grab his hand, the thoughts that craved his lips on yours and his arms around your body, the thoughts that wanted to hear him say that he belonged to you and you belonged to him. But that was a pretty fantasy in your head you would never be able to fulfill, not when Adam kept avoiding emotionally heavy topics.
A sigh of frustration left your body and you tilted your head upwards to look at the shiny stars that were lightening up the night sky. That caught Adam’s attention, the first man turned his head to look at you as he spoke in a quiet voice, “The fuck’s up with you lately? You seem so-,” before he was able to seek a word for how you were feeling you finished the sentence for him.
“Lost. I know, it’s just my mind that keeps me busy.” The brunette walking next to you raised an eyebrow, now clearly curious about what’s going on inside of you, “That’s why you need a walk in the middle of the fucking night?” You nodded before your eyes met his, you instantly regretted looking at him. His golden eyes seemed to gleam in the night, they looked so warm, provided comfort without even trying and you found yourself lost in their warmth as you started to sing without even fully noticing what you were doing, “Slow dance with you.”
Adam’s face was drowning in confusion at your words and at the sudden change of vibe, but he was willing to see where this was going - at least it appeared that way given that he didn’t leave or interrupt you. He stayed and listened, did not flinch away when you gently reached for his hands to hold them in yours. His golden eyes stayed locked with yours, they were not leaving each other.
Not when this moment felt so… important to him, “I just wanna slow dance with you.” And slowly the brunette seemed to catch onto where this situation was going, yet his hands remained in yours and his eyes continued to observe yours. You pulled him in a little, making the height difference between you and him more noticeable - you were not that much smaller, only one head, but you were smaller and the closer you pulled him, the more noticeable it was. When you were almost chest to chest, you had to tilt your head up to properly look at him and you wanted nothing more than to cup his face and kiss his soft looking lips, claim them, claim him.
With a swift hand movement you made your beloved bass appear to strum its strings along your vocals. What made it even more ironic was that Adam had been the person who made you get back into playing the bass when he had looked for a bassist for his band. And the first man looking for a new member of his band - which you had been a huge fan of? There was no way for you to turn down such an opportunity. “I know that your pretty girls are tough and smooth,” and that was the problem, wasn’t it?
His girls.
You were not one of them, you were a guy, a guy who had dared to catch feelings for the most homophobic feeling individual in all of heaven - yet said homophobic individual kept sending you signals that you yourself would read as interest in you.
Interest in dating you, to be specific.
But then he would go back to rambling about how much pussy he had fucked over the weekend and said signals were thrown to the flames. “And I got the blues,” that on the other hand was true and you were just proving this line to be correct. Adam’s hands moved to your waist, pulling you in a little more before pushing you backwards and therefore away from him again. “I wanna slow dance with you,” you ended your little confession, waiting for the brunette to react.
He remained silent for way longer than it had been necessary, then he responded by continuing the song though, “I wanna slow dance with you,” he continued. Your eyes widened at his words, processing what he had just sung, processing what was happening as he made his electric guitar appear and picked up the tune you had been playing, only for you to join in with your bass, making the tune sound perfect. It took two to play the song you had started and both Adam and you were aware of that. “I just wanna slow dance with you,” the brunette continued as he wrapped his wing around your back before he pushed himself off the ground and stopped right above you, waiting for you to join him.
So you copied his movement and the both of you played the instrument of your choice as you climbed heaven’s ladder up higher. “Why don’t you take the chance?” It was both an invitation and a challenge that Adam offered, he wanted to see how far you would push, how greedy you were, would you risk throwing away your friendship? “I’ve got the moves I’d like to prove,” he took your hand, spun you and therefore caused your body to turn a full one eighty, your back was being pressed against his chest - or was it his chest that was being pressed against your back? You were not sure. All your body could focus on was the fact how close the first man was, how soft and honest his words sounded. His breath hit your neck and you were able to feel the grin on his lips as he continued the song, “I wanna slow dance with you.”
His arms wrapped around your body, due to how tight his chest was pressed against your back that was the only thing keeping you in the air, your wings were unable to move properly in that position and Adam was very aware of that as he placed a kiss against your jaw, causing a violent shiver to run down your spine which resulted in a clearly amused chuckle bubbling from the first man’s chest, “Fucking love the effect I have on you, babes.”
The pet name made your head spin, because what the actual fuck? Where was this softness coming from? Since when was Adam okay with liking guys? You had teased him about his queer vibes before, he had always stated he was not one of them queers and that pussy was the best thing ever. So this came as a total surprise, leaving you unable to respond. You felt his guitar and the bass in your hand disappear, then his arms around you tightened, “What’cha say if we go back to my place?” And all you found yourself able to do was to nod, because spending the night at his place sounded so much better than trying to process all of this on your own in your empty home alone. You would much prefer being in his warm arms, drinking a beer and laughing. Yeah, this was alright.

“[Peter’s] really a genius, a prolific musician — he plays about seven instruments.” - Micky Dolenz, Record Mirror, February 11, 1967
“[Peter is] an incredible musician. [..] And he's a genius, the man is a genius at music. As I said, Peter was — and is — a genius in music. And he got very frustrated because he wasn’t able to satisfy himself creatively. And Mike felt the same way. […] Peter is writing, he’s writing songs. He’s an incredible songwriter. And if you’re watching, dummy, get some publishing because you’re a great songwriter.” - Micky Dolenz, Tomorrow with Tom Snyder, 1977
“[N]o one of us really supported any of the others except that — that I like to think that I tried to support Micky in a way which, for some reason, he never did pick up on. I mean, I think that Micky has a certain kind of genius that he was never able to acknowledge in himself.” - Peter Tork, Headquarters radio, September 1989
“Peter is the best rock guitarist around today. He plays about ten instruments in all — just about everything with strings. Mike and I also play guitars, although we are not in Peter’s class.” - Davy Jones, Melody Maker, January 14, 1967
“Peter Tork has to be one of the best guitarists around — he can cut anybody on guitar. He plays about 10 instruments — banjo, uke, the lot.” - Davy Jones, The Ottawa Journal, January 20, 1967
“Hey listen, fair is fair. They laugh and joke about that [‘Lady’s Baby’]. OK, it cost as much to do I think as ‘Good Vibrations.’ They were laughing about Peter Tork, but that [song] is a true-to-life thing. He was living with a woman [Karen Harvey] at the time and she had a little baby [Justin Hammer] and that changed his life, you know? That gave him something to think about. He was being downtrodden by the studio in regard to his recording and his playing and his songs and everything else, but the guy was the salt of the earth. It wasn’t just Hare Krishna, waterbeds and brown rice. That guy was a very, very accomplished musician. He needed magic to be able to do get in and do ‘Lady’s Baby.’ It’s a nice song. It’s true. It’s got the warmth and everything of what he was living. ‘Lady’s Baby’ touches me, lets me know that I am free, whatever it is. I remember it so well. It’s a real tune, you know? I love it.” - Davy Jones, The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the ‘60s TV Pop Sensation (2005)
“Well, Davy’s always been a man of great talent and heart and I had just been hoping to work with him some more. He had such talent. He was probably the most talented of us all. He certainly had the best pitch and the best time. He should probably have been the drummer or the bass player of something. He should have been in the rhythm section. It’s kind of amazing – the two guys with the best time in the band weren’t in the rhythm section [laughs]. That was a little weird, looking back. And he was so able – there was just nothing he couldn’t do. I remember once in the middle of a tour, we said, ‘Well, we want to do this song, and we want to do it this way. But we’re missing a bass player. Davy, here’s a bass. Put your fingers here and pluck this string there.’ Next thing you knew, he was playing bass on stage like that night or two nights later or something. It was nothing major – he wasn’t popping strings and doing runs and fills, but he was laying down a bass and it was solid – it was solid. And that kind of ability is, I think, what I’m going to miss … what I’m sorriest to see go.” - Peter Tork, LeHigh Valley Live, June 2012
“I have a great deal of respect for Mike as a musician and a songwriter. He’s very good. He could make it on his own easily. Also he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.” - Peter Tork, Flip, August 1967
"Nesmith is an astounding artist, and he’s very funny." - Peter Tork, Monkees Convention Q&A, 1982
“I still have a lot of respect for Michael.” - Peter Tork, WDBB, February 2006
“There are two common and, to me, repugnant notions about the Monkees. Number one, that I was the only one who had any talent, which is patently absurd. It’s as unfair and as unkind as it is stupid. The other one is that I was the only musician. I wasn’t the only musician and I wasn’t much of a musician. Peter was a much more skillful player than I was by some orders of magnitude.” - Michael Nesmith, The Monkees Tale (1989)
"Everyone was accomplished – the notion I was the only musician is one of those rumors that got started and won't stop – but it was not true. Peter was a more accomplished player than I by an order of magnitude, Micky and Davy played and sang and danced and understood music." - Michael Nesmith, Rolling Stone, March 8, 2012

Teach Me How To Love In Your Own Lyrics
(Part two)
Prev
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With the finals happening, his classes were actually quiet for once. Except for the constant “Mr. Harrington may I use the restroom?” At least they used correct grammar. His fourth period was by far his favorite of the classes (although he would never admit it). They were the smartest group and they actually listened. They got done impressively quick leaving them with 20 minuets of class. He collected their papers and leaned back on the front of his desk. “So,” he begins, “anyone have any fun summer plans?” Which he knows is like the most teachery question to ever be asked but oh well.
They all had the basic answers : going to the beach, spending time with family (he loved the kids that said this), and the classic going to spend every day at the arcade. However, there was one answer that stuck out to him.
“What about you James?”
“I get to go to my favorite bands’ concert!” He sounded so excited
“Oh really? Who?”
“Corroded Coffin! They’re coming to Indy!”
Sometimes Steve forgets how big they actually are so the answer kind of took him by surprise. “That’s awesome! Okay random question. Show of hands, who listens to Corroded Coffin?” Almost every single kid raised their hand. Wow. They are in for a treat.
“Now I’m sorry kids but I think I have you all beat, I am 100% their biggest fan.” All the kids protested. James especially about how “I don’t see your tickets!” Steve grinned “okay okay maybe not but…” he reached behind him to his desk in search for something. He pulled out 2 Polaroids. One was from about 5 years ago of him and Eddie on the swings at the local park. They may or may not have been as high as a kite, but that wasn’t important. The other was more recent. It’s the two of them in the Wheeler’s basement. Eddie is playing the most ‘metal’ song ever his guitar while Steve plays a kazoo. He smiles at the memories to himself before turning the pictures around to the kids and saying, “Is your best friend the lead guitarist?”
The kids were in awe. James stood up and pushed his way towards Steve. “You?”
“Yes?”
“Friends with THE Eddie Munson?”
“The one and only, yes.” He looked so shocked? Excited? Angry? He could not read any of his students emotions no matter how hard he tried. James turned around and sat back down with the same expression plastered on his face.
All of the class wanted to know how they knew each other. Oh. Steve had to make up a story on the spot. He really couldn’t say “oh yeah when the inter-dimensional portal opened up I went looking for him, because y’a know he had murder charges and had to hide, but anyways long story short he died and I gave him cpr, and we have been BFFS since!” So he goes with:
“Well we went to high school togeth-“
“WAIT!”
“What now James?” he sighed
“You went to school here right?
“Correct.”
“That means Eddie went to school here?!?!”
“Yeah? The whole band did, now if I can cont-“
“WHAT???”
Steve took a deep breath, “now can I continue?” James mumbled some sort of yes. Steve laughed, “Okay. So yes we went to high school together but we didn’t really now each other then. We were on opposite sides of the field I guess? He started his own d&d club. And I..” he sighed, “was on the swim team.” All the kids booed. He laughed and continued, “I know I know. Anyways, we met through mutual friends, and after all said friends left town he became my best friend, not to mention I have saved his life.” The kids were all silent except for (you guessed it) James.
“What is he like?”
“What do you mean?” He asked while looking back at the pictures.
“Like is he one of those celebrities who’s really mean in person?”
Steve snorted, “not at all, he may look like he’s really mean but I swear he’s the sweetest person I’ve ever met,” he paused and smiled, “This one time his car broke down so I drove him home and,” he giggled, “he saw a cat on the side of the road. He yelled at me to stop the car, and we had just went to get fast food, so he jumped out of the car, gabbed the cat, and started giving the cat fries. I had to force him back into the car. He cried actual tears for HOURS because he didn’t get to keep the cat. He already named it too. Get this, Jameson the third. He doesn’t even know a James let alone a Jameson.” He set the pictures down and glanced at his watch. “Oh guys we have 2 minutes before the bell rings. So yes James he’s super nice.”
When the bell rang and they all told him goodbye. They seemed more cheery then normal. He was glad for that.
It was his lunch period next. He wanted to look over some papers so he stayed in the classroom. He got done but didn’t want to leave, so he just stared at the ceiling and got lost in thought. He thought about Eddie leaving. He really got sad just at the thought. 3 months was going to be a long time. He realizes that he hasn’t even left and he misses him. The only person he’d have left in Hawkins would be the English teacher Julie Smith and to be honest she’s starting to annoy him. He doesn’t know how Eddie did it for a year. He thought that maybe Steve didn’t mean as much to Eddie as Eddie did to Steve. He quickly discarded that thought along with the tears that were now rolling down his cheek. He felt like they all needed a formal goodbye to Eddie. And that’s when he had a great idea. He picked up the phone and dialed Robin.
“Helllooooo?” She answered
“Robin.”
“Steve! What’s up?”
“I have an Idea but I kinda need your help.”
“I’m listening. ”
Here is part 2! To be honest this wasn’t planned at all. It was meant to be a paragraph or two of part three but oh well. More stuff for you guys 😉. I think I might love making Steve cry. Idk why I do it constantly tho. This part is also kinda short :(. Anyways hope you enjoyed! I think this one is pretty good. You can probably tell how low my self esteem is by this 🤷‍♀️. Ngl i kinda hate it. Oops. So far I have parts 3 and 4 written. I think I will post one part a day. Also part count update: it’s now going to be 7-9 parts! Comment or reblog if you want to be tagged!! Thank you for reading!! <3
The Salvation Day Interviews (2 of 2) with musician Anthony Tadlock
youtube
     Dear listener, this is part 2 of 2 of my Salvation Day Interviews with Anthony Tadlock, A.K.A. t-underneaththeradardancing on Tumblr. For reference, Part 1 is here. Without further ado let’s start picking T’s oddly poetic and musical brain once again...
    Mr Tadlock, SD’s style of music seems quite distinct and doesn’t sound exactly like any other band I’ve heard of. When you two record music, what is the specific style you’re aiming for? Do you and Ms Vita Rhie Quintanilla align on any favorite influences that heavily sway your sound? Do you two enjoy the same type of music outside of SD? How much does classical or modern music affect your own expression as musicians?
     whether we are recording - playing live - just fucking around (what passes for "practice/rehearsal ") we dont actually aim for a style - early on we talked in general about "goals" we agreed that what we aim for is transcendent magic healing - and we will settle for being in tune and not sucking - influences many and varied but both agree if on a desert island - and could only have one album it would b miles davis "kind of blue" - we both enjoy a wide range of music...
     everything we hear - have heard - from classical to punk rock influences us - we also play a fair amount of "covers" live - a typical example would be "i know places" which is a kind of dirge by lykke li - vita had never heard it before - it was a staple in my live performances at the time - vita listened to what i had done w it and it became a staple of early performances having morphed into almost a stax type r&b - like many songs we play - we worked out the arrangement during performances with little or no discussion about arrangement
     I find that some of the most effective musical groups out there are duos. There’s just something that seems more concentrated and concise about a duo’s ability to wrap an album in a tight bow. Compared to other musical projects you’ve worked on in the past, do you prefer dealing with one single other creative mind… or many others… and what are the disadvantages of both from your point of view? When you’re playing guitar and she’s singing, for example, how do you deal with the inevitable issue of adding percussion to ‘enhance’ a track or live performance?
    at this time there are actually 3 members of SD - the 3rd is london - he plays guitar and bass - is engineering / producing our next project - at various times we have had a 3rd musician join us for a song or 2 - and there is maggie umber the artist, who created our web site - a video and some behind the scenes stuff - which is not precisely answering the question - i understand about duos though - with 2 minds/ souls it is easier to keep the connection - the unspoken - and be as 1 - with the whole being more than the sum of - it was only in making the album and making hard choices / dealing with forced choices and realities that i realized my true role / gift as a guitarist/musician is being a catalyst for magic to happen - to digress - often at open mics - peeps play along from their seats - impromptu collabs occur - sometimes the whole place becomes the stage - today im gonna prob play 1 song w the host/emcee - we have played 2x together - 1st time was cuz someone who had someone die that they were close to requested she play hendrix purple haze and she asked me if i could - tho i have heard the song countless times - the last time i played parts of it - i was maybe 15 - but it’s a simple structure - i said give me a minnit - went outside tried out chords as i remembered and something resembling the guitar parts - spent maybe 5 minutes total - came back in and said yah sure but u have to sing - no rehearsal - loose and nothing like note for note - ffs i dont play anything note for note or exactly the same way twice –
Tumblr media
    anyway - it’s like that w vita - she often asks - can we play xxx - i say sure - look up chords if i dont know and ...w vita it has been consistent magic from the start and while not effortless by any stretch - we both put everything we have into the music as we play - whether we are loosely playing in my dining room / her living room - out in the street - onstage - sometimes we think there is no audience and a neighbor will later say they liked it - or look up on the street and realize we have attracted a small audience - in terms of the limitations - especially when vita isnt playing guitar - partially i am accustomed to playing solo just me and guitar - have developed different strategies for compensating / filling holes in the sound - that said we have wanted a percussionist from day 1 - on the album and ep we used synthesized drums / percussion which can be hard cuz we are a bit quirky - so in some ways salvation day will always be vita and t at the core - tho our 1 performance w london was ez and in some ways our best - and playing w him is ez and natural - unfortunately no recording
    I have but one final query and it’s a general one, so buckle your fuckles. I’m curious Mr Tadlock, what do you think of the state of modern music? When I listen to Salvation Day, I hear a group that is 100% genuine. You’ve got an interesting story and your entire act and delivery is sincere… when I turn on modern radio I just hear utter nonsense. Nonsense that is often dumbed down by multimillion dollar corporations that are trying to turn the talents of others into a saleable product. Do you think the vast majority of modern music is even healthy for people, and is there a conscientious effort on your behalf to keep the presentation pure with Salvation Day?
     the state of modern music ? idk tbh - it’s a scattered and confusing landscape - like always - much of wat is out there is crap - but then again - i lissen to 60s station on sirius when on road trips w the unpoet and much of what i hear is pretty crappy and i love the 60s lol - same same modern music which i get sporadic exposure to via tumblr instagram and youtube - hearing while in cafes or in ride shares - SNL ... and every once in a while an absolute gem is heard so is "mainstream " pop /commercial music "healthy" - fuck if i know - i remember 1st listening to top 40 am radio in 1st grade - loved the chipmonks (Alviiiiiiin!) singing witch doctor - a one off "flying purple people eater " lots of "novelty records " when previously listened to moms opera and frank sinatra - beatles werent on the radar yet but beach boys - mostly vacuous but fun - have gone thru phases - only listened to jazz and opera for almost a decade - have compulsively listened to 1 album or artist for periods - was any of it "healthy" maybe - it fomented trance and being outside myself - sometimes music is entertainment - sometimes just background for a lot of people - but also a way of coming together - a way to express confusing/conflicting emotions - i could critique modern music as being cookie cutter and meaningless - but no more than say doo wop dang a langa ding dong indeed or has there ever been anyone more transgressive than little richard then again chuck berry stooping to my dingaling ffs
     so did we do we trynna keep it "pure" w salvation day - fuck yah - i mean how fucking audacious (pretentious) to call it Path of Sacred Art - i thot our producer understood and they did sorta but - and i love our album but at one point i almost walked away from it - the process slowly grinds - yah rough edges r smoothed but - a case in point - the epitome of early salvation day - the sacred art side was/is "reincarnation" something went terribly wrong in the studio - after spending waaaay too much time recording vita's guitar - and too much autotune on her vocal - her guitar track had a "glitch" making it unusable - by the time that was discovered vita was in davis again - covid was just about to go into the lock down phase ...it was expedient to hire a classic trained studio musician that the producer knew and could record studio quality on his laptop
youtube
     and tbh i still am not sure how much of the electric on it is actually me or if some was replaced w same studio guitarist - little dramas like this went on for months during the mixing process and much of the email text exchanges w producer were late night sleep ruining drama - in the interest of ever getting the album finished - vita - whom i gave ultimate decision making since they are her songs - deeply personal - she has literally shed blood (read her book) during the writing of performing recording , allowed almost all of her guitar to b scrapped - replaced by same studio musician - tho to said musicians credit - she did a good job of re creating vita - and if some of my guitar - we only talking about a few notes - was also replaced - she faithfully re created - tho i did go in studio one day a couple weeks after recording was "finished" and laid down a lot of riffs / repeating lines / solos and i was sooooo stoned i truthfully dont remember - in those daze because of intense constant pain - i used what in retrospect were enormous amounts of thc and cbd - no other drugs or alcohol but i was high 24-7 and rarely got as much as 3 hours sleep a night - anyway - so yah we did our best to keep it pure - and there is nothing cookie cutter about the album
like real people do (pt 1)
Pairing: Eddie Munson x pianist!reader
Summary: He was a metal guitarist. She played piano. Can I make it any more obvious?
Word Count: 1.6k
A/N: Still haven’t recovered. Here’s some non-canon-related fluff.
part 2  part 3 part 4
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson is a metalhead drug dealer with a penchant for failing Chemistry.
And the girl who works at the music store is an uptight goodie-two-shoes.
Seriously. Eddie Munson had been Nancy Wheeler’s partner in a biology lab for a month and had thought she was bad.
But you were a whole new ball game. Perfect grades and perfect manners were one thing. But you were also infuriatingly kind.
It would be one thing if you just scoffed when he walked through the door and ignored him until he found the sheet music he was looking for.
But it’s worse than that.
You were annoyingly helpful.
And not in the fake-nice customer service-y way. You didn’t just plaster on a fake smile and nod at customers until you turned your back.
No, you were interested. You asked them curious and thoughtful questions and offered real, useful advice.
Even to people like Eddie.
Every time he goes for new music you help him find it, you ask him questions about his band, and ring him up, all with a cheery smile.
Pretending like you care. Like you’re actually interested in knowing anything about him.
And he knows exactly who you are. Everyone does. It’s a pretty small town, and you’re the ‘Prodigy of Hawkins’. Their pride and joy. You are quite possibly the best musician that Hawkins Indiana had ever produced. Not that that was really saying that much. But you’d been gifted since you could barely reach the pedals of the baby grand in the Hawkin’s community center theater.
You’re supposed to be pretentious, your parents drive you up to Indianapolis on the weekends where you play at the concert hall. Their symphony orchestra has accompanied YOU.
Yet when you’re not performing for packed concert halls, you’re accompanying choir concerts and middle school plays, and teaching little kids how to play the piano, all without an air of self-importance.
He heard you even got a scholarship to Juilliard. New York. He had been fuming with jealousy.
It was always prissy rich girls like you that get out of towns like this, and he’s already been stuck here two years longer than he was supposed to be.
You shouldn’t want anything to do with a guy like him.
And he shouldn’t want you either. I mean, you are definitely not his type.
And yet, he can’t help but feel drawn to you.
Which is probably why he spends all of his money on sheet music and guitar strings.
“Hi, Eddie!” Your voice calls out from behind a row of sheet music when Eddie walks in. You must be organizing stock. Usually, you’re behind the counter with a textbook, or at the display piano playing through a concerto like it’s a nursery rhyme. “Give me one sec and I’ll be right with you.”
Eddie nods as he moves to peruse the new arrivals. As the only music store in Hawkins, you carry just about anything and everything, which is definitely the only reason that Eddie still shops here. Somehow you manage to carry sheet music and tabs for just about every genre under the sun.
“So what can I help you with,” You ask as you finally manage to make your way over to Eddie with a smile.
“Just looking for some new music, you don’t have Master of Puppets yet, do you?” Eddie asks, hardly lifting his eyes from the sheet music he’s flipping through.
“Yes we do,” You say with a grin as you lead him towards the register. “I had a feeling you’d want to get your hands on it,” You add as you pull it out from underneath the register and place it in front of him with a slight flourish as he eagerly grabs the music from the counter and flips through the pages.
“Anything else I can do for you?” You ask as you watch him with mild amusement.
“Uh, nah, I’ll just take this one,” Eddie replies when he finally looks up.
“Sounds good,” You say as you type it into the cash register. “That’ll be 4.99,” You tell him.
He grabs some cash out of his pockets and hands it to you.
“So are you adding this to Corroded Coffin’s setlist?” You ask as you put the money in the register and grab him his change.
Eddie glances up at you in surprise, impressed that you remembered his band name from the last time he was here.
“Maybe, I kinda just want to try it out for myself first, see if I can even manage it,” He tells you.
“Of course you can,” You scoff as you hand him his change. “Eddie, I’ve seen you play at school, you’re amazing,” You tell him as you grab a bag for the music.
“Right,” Eddie replies awkwardly, completely unprepared for the compliment. He had kind of assumed that if the band ever played anything written after 1900 that your ears bled.
“Hey, uh, we play Tuesday nights at The Hideout,” Eddie tells you before he can fully think it through. “By no means are we at your level, I mean we play to 5 drunks on a good night but…”
“I’d love to hear your guys, I’ll try and catch you next week,” You tell him with a nod as you smile back at him.
“Cool,” Eddie says with a nod as you hand him his bag.
“Bye, Eddie,” You reply as he walks out the door.
Tumblr media
You stick out like a sore thumb. It wasn’t hard for Eddie to pick you out in the crowd, even if the bar is just as slow as it usually is on a Tuesday night.
Your swingy skirt and blazer-like jacket make you look like you’re going to a recital, not a dive bar.
At least you were in all black.
“You actually came,” Eddie greets you as he saunters up to where you’re sitting after their set.
“Of course,” You reply quickly as you turn and see him making his way over, smiling. “I mean, is it alright that I did? I assumed that it was an open invitation but if it wasn’t I-”
“Yes, yes, sorry, I just thought you’d have had a better invitation since then,” Eddie replies, gently cutting off your ramblings.
“Oh, god no,” You blurt out before you can stop yourself from sounding like even more of a loser. “Classically trained pianists don’t exactly have a lot of social credit,” You tell him with a shrug.
“I don’t ah, have a lot of friends. And the ones I do have are mostly middle-aged musicians who live in Indianapolis,” You admit. “So thank you, for inviting me, you guys are very talented.”
“Hope we didn’t burst your eardrums,” Eddie replies with a smirk as he leans against the table.
“Are you kidding? I love Metallica,” You tell him as you press a hand to your heart.
You’d thought it would be obvious, you love music more than anything, and can’t think of a single genre that you don’t enjoy, that’s why you’re always pushing your manager to order just about any music under the sun.
“I genuinely can’t tell if you’re joking,” Eddie replies, his eyes narrowing slightly as he steps back to study you.
“I’m not joking,” You protest. “What, did you think I danced around in my bedroom to Bach?”
“Honestly….” Eddie trails off teasingly as he tips his head slightly.
Eddie didn’t really know what he imagined you listening to. If he was thinking about you dancing around your bedroom he usually wasn’t putting much thought into the soundtrack.
“Ugh, you’re the worst,” You reply as you shove at his shoulder, shaking your head.
“Nah, I had pegged you for a Beatles girl though,” Eddie confesses.
“Rude,” You reply with a huff as you look at him.
His eyes are already on you. And you can feel him studying you closely. Normally you’d shy away from the attention. People always assumed you enjoyed the spotlight. But honestly, if you didn’t love the music so much you wouldn’t be able to bear it, the constant attention always felt so prying and invasive.
But Eddie’s attention didn’t feel that way. You wanted to challenge it with your own. You’d been watching him for as long as you could remember. You found him deeply curious, with so many complexities that you just wanted to understand, even if you could never quite unpack all of them.
And you felt him studying you now in the same way. Like he understood parts of you that no one else did.
And you liked it.
“Well, I’m sure you have adoring groupies waiting for you somewhere,” You finally say. Cutting through the silence and the tension as you pull your gaze away to scan the bar. Not sure what you’re looking for since the only people here are the regulars sitting at the bar, and Eddie’s bandmates, over at a booth in the corner shouting loudly.
“I really don’t,” Eddie replies quickly with a glance behind him at his band. “Me and the guys usually just get a drink after a show, Jeff always wants to do a play-by-play so that we can ‘improve’,” Eddie tells you with a scoff as he throws up air quotes.
“You wouldn’t want to go get a drink, would you?” Eddie asks after a moment. “And just talk?”
“Yeah, I’d really like that,” You tell him with a small smile.
