Get Back Rewatch 55 Years On: Day 18
Staring John Lennon, as that kid I should’ve been nicer to in first grade who always smelled like PB&J and was never to be seen without his pokemon cards
Tumblr media
The dancing is really too cute. They’re just absolutely giddy. Making each other laugh AND an excuse to touch? John and Paul’s heaven.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John saying he was too excited after yesterday to go to bed. Like a fucking kid on christmas.
Everybody is serving today. While the candy-land suit is fun, I actually just love that vivid purple so much that I think it’s better without the coat over it. Billy looks extremely suave and classy.  And those red polka-dots on Ringo. Red suits him, and I think with his very frank, masculine aspect, he looks so beautiful and bold in feminine fits. Paul and John are both just wearing what they wore yesterday. Yeah. But John is still a cutie, and Paul, well, you all know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The advice chain about finishing a song while you’re working on. Paul → John → George
Paul honestly does a great job being supportive of George and his work. Coming over and grooving with him, then hopping on drums then guitar (right-handed, may I add). Just to give George musical atmosphere to flesh out his song and start thinking of arrangement ideas, I assume. Then letting him bounce ideas around. And the whole time being overly-enthusiastic to build George up. Look how happy George is with the love and attention.
Tumblr media
John helping move some equipment in. We love a man who sometimes doesn’t think he’s too good for manual labor.
Yes, clean that homeless man’s palm sweat off your instrument. Probably smart.
TFW you made Paul McCartney jealous of your musical abilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
John really knew so well when to be his little impish self and when to be hard and intimidating. Exhibit A, going from, “Can we have our microphones, oh, mister, can we please?” to “And get one for Billy too.” In a matter of seconds.
George Martin stepping in when they’re all getting panicky about the sound and they need an authority figure to reassure them in ways that someone like Glyn Johns never could. Just, perfectly cool and collected, puts everything right as they’re all shouting at him like school children who’ve just had a terrible time in PE.
“Believe me, when I tell you.” “Oh, I do.” Oh, good. He did put it in. That’s nice. Right, and this is the moment Yoko decides to tell John her divorce has come through and pull him in for a big smooch. Honestly, it just shows how threatened she feels by Paul. Nevermind her whole, “good thing Paul isn’t a girl or he would have been a great threat,” quote. Clearly, he just is a threat regardless of sex.
And then John, “I’m freeeee.” At Paul. Honestly, the amount of things they direct specifically and aggressively at each other that should’ve just been general statements if there wasn’t some weird thing between them. It’s really something. Normally, you’d announce something like that to the whole room. But it seems John specifically wants to impress upon Paul that he and Yoko could get married right now if they wanted to. I mean, it’s a little difficult to make the point, because John and Paul almost aways seem to be talking only to each other. But through the whole discussion of Yoko’s divorce, John does not take his eyes off of Paul.
Tumblr media
Oh my gosh, Ivan Vaughn is here? How many emotional support boyfriends does Paul need to make up for John having Yoko? Glyn, Linda, George Martin, Dennis, Robert Fraser, and now Ivan? Fuck’s sake, Yoko, you’re a powerful woman.
Paul’s Strawberry Fields piano. Let me be as vulnerable and broken as possible in my singing, since I can’t show you any other way that you’re killing me. Do you remember this song? That you wrote when we were at the height of our partnership only two years ago? How happy we were then? How beautiful the world seemed for that one brief moment? And John can’t look at him, because, yes he fucking remembers and yes he knows he’s hurting Paul. But for whatever reason, (my theory is he wanted something more Paul couldn’t give him. What that was and whether it was ever specifically vocalized I don't have a guess) going back to that time would be more painful to John than this has been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So they’ve been goofing off and Paul gives this little speech to get them back on task. “Alright Chawn Love. I’ve gotta call order, John, now, valuable time, here, son. Cool down, son.” But John’s response, “Don’t let me down, babe” completely switches Paul’s gears. He now thinks it’s important enough to get in this little snatch of a *meaningful* cover, “Take these Chains from my Heart,” reversing the course of productivity he’d got them on and ignoring the fact that they were about to do a take on two-shilling-a-foot tape. My interpretation of this moment is a bit tin-hatish and long, but suffice it to say, John is not happy with the message.
Tumblr media
Everyone convincing Paul to do another take of his song is surprising, considering everything we always hear about how Paul was a tyrant task-master who just forced everyone to keep doing his lame muzak over and over when they all clearly hated it. Mal, “You can always go back to it.” Paul, “Do you want your head kicked in?” John, “We’ll never get a chance to do it again.” Paul, “Okay, honey bunch. Let’s hit it one time, tutti-frutti.”
Yoko watching Paul check out her boyfriend’s ass. Classic. Also the fact that she literally copied his outfit? I get so much second-hand embarrassment for her, and it’s not when she’s being a weirdo and a statement-maker. It’s the having to physically stick the gum you were offering your boyfriend into this hand because he won’t take his eyes off his boyfriend for two seconds to look at you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone laughing at Perfect Paul being out of tune is so funny to me. Like when the nerd finally gets a question wrong and the whole class is all “ooooohhhh!”
Ringo having a grand old time on the drums. I love that he just knew that’s what he wanted to do from such a young age and he never wanted to do anything else. And why would he? He’s a genius at it.
Paul. “John’s got something at 1:30 and so have I.” Smirk emoji. Side-eye emoji. George is with me. “Yeah we've got something too. I’ll do Ringo at 1:30.” I'm dead.
This moment right here hurts me. Paul’s enjoying a nice cuddle with Ringo until he remembers the camera. You’re not going to get in trouble for having your friend’s arm around your shoulders, Paul. Why are you like this?

Hey I just read your Jason x reader fic where y/n is the joker's daughter. First of all, that👏was👏awesome 👏, really I was feeling things and was destroyed when you used the sentence of the prompt. I was tearing up, and I don't normally do that, sooooooo. Yeah, you're damn good with your writing, keep it up.
Now, the reason why I'm doing this, I read it (both parts) like 1 hour ago, 10 mins after that Line without a hook from Rick Montgomery is playing on Spotify. I realized with a broken heart (you really got my feelings hanging from that fic) that it fits perfectly with the song, and it doesn't only works with one of them, it works with both jay and reader and the lyrics if you put attention to them it jumps from one to another.
Here's what I'm saying,(I'm just being delusional and overanalyzing everything) look:
I don't really give a damn about the way you touch me When we're alone You can hold my hand If no one's home
Here it's kinda both of them on the very final of part 2, like it says about the holding hands and touching when they're alone, but in a sense that they feel alone in the world without each other. But also the fact that y/n doesn't have anyone home, and from jays pov, how he felt betrayed with bruce, for knowing about her being his murderer's daughter.
Do you like it when I'm away? If I went and hurt my body, baby Would you love me the same?.
Right here, is the reader, specifically when she fights with Jay in the alley, but like, I feel that it's more like what she couldn't say to him, because she did what he asked, she moved away. At the same time the last 2 lines talk very well of how she lost everything, and I can also see a little hint of the robbery part, in the sense that she is hurting her "soul" or "essence" for lack of words.
I can feel all my bones coming back And I'm craving motion
JASON, do I have to say anything else? Like quite literally it's about resurrection, but emotions, don't forget about them, it's all the crushing rage he felt in the batcave, but also the hurting and the pain when he saw how little she had, when he realized how much she had suffered and how much he missed her.
Mama never really learns how to live by herself It's a curse And it's growing You're a pond and I'm an ocean
READER!! like are you seeing how many coincidences there are with this song! Analogy of mama, but it's actually "dad".
Personally, I've never understood the part of the pond and the ocean, but after this, it gave me a new look at it, from the readers pov, it's all the pain she caused jason, be it from the lies (quote to him), that she feels it's only growing, or could also be from the fact that jay thinks she like her dad and that she is much like poison (or curse) and it's eventually going to infect the kids or diane.
Oh, all my emotions Feel like explosions when you are around And I've found a way to kill the sounds, oh
Now this is both of them when they see each other again, but that last line, it works very differently, for jay it's rage and hatred, but for y/n it was blaming herself for everything, this before she reflected on herself, after that it's just numbness, seeing life gray, because what else could she do alone like she was?
Oh, baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you I need you here to stay I broke all my bones that day I found you Crying at the lake
Again both of them, but the reader is very good as an undertone of those 2 first lines, she is broken without him, without the only and very first person that loved her, I need you here to stay, it's the picture beside her bed, obviously.
The last two are very very very perfect on Jason, he is broken and sad when he saw her in that little rathole she called a "home", but the "...broke my bones...", it happens when she says that it was worse at the werehouse.
Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden? Oh, and if I could take it all back I swear that I would pull you from the tide
Jason begging for forgiveness, 🔛🔝📈📈📈.
Lats line specially about when he took her home, both before and after he found out.
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa I said no (I said no), I said no (I said no) Listen close, it's a no The wind is a-pounding on my back And I found hope in a heart attack Oh at last, it is past Now I've got it, and you can't have it
I need another opinion here, it fits perfectly with both of them, but to be honest, It doesn't feel fair.
For reader it's in the alley screaming and shouting at him that she changed and understood that she it's not her father. She doesn't blame herself anymore (at least that what she says), she found hope of being better in a shattered heart.
Or jason, in the batcave, screaming and shouting how she betrayed him. Finding hope of not getting hurt anymore in his broken heart.
Both of them, both of the situations, let very clear the last line. "Now I've got it, and you can't have it".
Jason has his heart, she wasn't going to hurt him anymore, he's not gonna let her.
Reader finally has cleaned her conscience, and she's not going to let him take it away from her.
Baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you I need you here to stay I broke all my bones that day I found you Crying at the lake Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden, oh And if I could take it all back I swear that I would pull you from the tide
The same that I mentioned before.
Darling, when I'm fast asleep I've seen this person watching me Saying, "Is it worth it? Is it worth it? Tell me, is it worth it?" Oh
Now, we all know that the joker never leaves, be that he has clones (literally wtf dude), or be it the scruchiating trauma he leaves in all his victims.
Reader, is repeating the voice of her father saying that no one will love her truly, given her identity.
Jason is repeating his horrible death and torture, but in my little delusional mind, I also believe that he was imagining the joker mocking him when he realized who y/n really was. Thing that only boosts the voice she hears. Not to forget that he is actually suffering with these nights terrors just like the song inclines.
Guess there is something, and there is nothing There is nothing in between
Then again comes the numbness she felt in those lasts months.
Watching over me, he's singing "She's a, she's a lady, and I am just a boy" He's singing, "She's a, she's a lady, and I am just a line without a hook"
I know it should be jay, but I'm going to do a little genderbending, cause the joker is a constant bully for the reader, even when dead, and in her dreams, (like fr dude calm down) , the reasoning behind this, it's that Jason stoped loving for a good while, but, she didn't, and if you add the constant remainder of "no one is gonna love you" with a good reason she is the owner of this verse.
Baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you I need you here to stay I broke all my bones that day I found you Crying at the lake Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden, oh And if I could take it all back I swear that I would pull you from the tide
The song ends yet again but with the chorus, but the very last line resonates with me, because of Jason wanting her back and actually putting an effort to understand her again after all the pain both of them suffered.
It ends with a happy feeling I think, if not at least optimistic.
I'm really sorry, it's too long, haha I really went into easy mode, hope it is not a burden. And if it isn't clear by now, I loved your fic, you had me in a chokehold all the damn time
STARLET, WHEN I CATCH YOU STARLET. STARLET, WHEN I CATCH YOU, STARLET.
Oh, my bleeding days, you probably dissected the fanfic even further than I could've imagined.
I SHIT YOU NOT, I WAS GONNA PUT LINE WITHOUT A HOOK INTO MY LYRIC PROMPT LIST. But i was like, ughhhh, the lyrics, THE LYRICS!!!! Ricky Montgomery's lyrics to that song were MWAHHHH. I was like, man I can't just copy ajd paste the whole song onto the list!!
I also thought that the whole song itself would be such a good prompt for an entire fanfic!! But the first part of the fic was so much longer than the others I've written, and since I've a packed schedule, I knew I wouldn't get the fic done if someone were to request the song.
But you've explained the fic together with the song so beautifully!! Like I know you were basing the song and fic with each other, but BRO YOU ALLOST MADE ME CRY!!
NOW LISTEN, LISTEN HERE!!!
You've used the whole song, comparing it to moments in the fic. But we add in one more verse- The verse from Line Without a Hook ft. mxmtoon!!!
And I know that you know Listen close and move slow I can't speak fast or else I'll crack
I feel you link lyrics and the fic better than I would, but my interpretation would be READERRRR yelling at Jason in the alley. Like, she's trying so hard to convince him that she's not the Joker, and she doesn't wanna cry in front of him again!!! "And I know that you know," maybe deep down, Reader knows Jason believes what she's saying, but Joker put Jason through so much, his head is just filled with trauma and rage!!
It's the price I pay for going back And I've dreamed to be seen Now I've got it, do I want it?
"It's the price I pay for going back," When Reader goes back to the soup kitchen, and Jason's all pissed off at her, but Reader just wanted to see Diane and the kids again :((
"And I've dreamed to be seen, Now I've got it, do I want it," Reader tried so long to tell Jason the truth, but like it all ended up badly when Jason was rewatching the footage of him. And it just ended up with Reader being scared of him when he started screaming and yelling at her.
And it teeny tiny bit ties in with the end of part 1 where it's like, the identity of Reader being the Joker's daughter wouldn't be mentioned at ALL since Joker never revealed he had a kid in the first place!!
So even though she had known Diane, the kids, and Jason for a good while, no one really knew who she really was.
But she regrets it when she finds out her dad was "right" :((
THERE WAS A TIKTOK SOUND THAT MASHED UP THE MXMTOON'S VERSE WITH RICKY'S AND IT GOES SO WELL WITH THIS PROMPT BUT THE SOUNDS GONE RAAAHHH
AND DONT BE SORRY THAT YOUR THOUGHT IS LONG!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HEARING OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINION AND IDEAS OF MY WRITING AND IM SO HAPPY YOU LIKED IT!!

Personality Through Quotes Tag
I was tagged by @illarian-rambling (here)! Thank you so much (:
MY PROMPT WAS: "A quote about siblings"
YOUR PROMPT IS: "A quote about their relationship with money (in the past and nowadays)"
I'll go with the main cast of "Of Starlight and Beasts" for this one!
Corah: "Oh I wish I had siblings! I've always wondered what that would be like - I mean, I've seen enough siblings around that I have a rough idea, but that's always such an individual experience. It would've been cool to have someone my age, other than just regular friends, around at all times. Though I'm sure we'd have driven Dad crazy with our antics if that was the case - I was chaotic enough on my own (giggles)."
Arammys: "The bond between siblings is among one of the strongest there is, and often one of the purest. At least that's what I...think - in my intuition, I mean. I haven't had any progress in recalling my memories, so I can't speak of my own experiences with siblings - if I had any at all - yet. But something tells me that my intuition might be right, at least in my case. At least I hope so and I want to remember whoever they were, or are."
Eidan - "I didn't have any siblings or parents, but my older cousin fit both of those roles perfectly throughout my childhood - he was the closest thing I've ever had to a true family. We didn't have much - we often had nothing at all - but we had each other, and he always kept me safe, and was always there for me when I needed him the most, even if we sometimes annoyed each other to no end. And though he was not my brother by birth he was by choice - and I just wish I had known how lucky I was before it was all too late."
Masen - "You know, having siblings ain't what it's cracked up to be. Especially if you have a twin. Yeah, it's all loyalty and mushiness until they've got something else they want to achieve - and that something's more important than you. Then they stab you in the back when you least expect it and run off with the people with the money into a perfect new world where you're not invited - Yeah. (shrugs awkwardly) I realize this got a bit too specific, my bad."
Kyran - "What even is there to say? You're born, and so are they, you grow up trusting one another until they start hanging out with shady people and become someone you barely recognize, and then you annoy the hell out of each other and don't speak for the next five years. Oh, and then they blame you for leaving them when they were the ones who made that mess to begin with -"
Elias - "(Without a drop of emotion in his voice) My siblings are the reason I truly believe I will have gone fully grey before 30. I'm almost certain they're trying to make it a competition. They're twins. I do not know where I went wrong with my life but here we all are. Now pass me the rum."
Tomasa - "I don't have any siblings, Gods know Ma had enough trouble keeping me in line when I was a little ankle biter. But I've been told having 'em is like flipping a coin. You are either best friends for life or want to kill each other. Sometimes both, from what my friends tell me, ha! I don't really fancy having any siblings of my own, if I'm being honest - but having someone I could prank 24/7 does sound really tempting. I guess Arammys will have to do (laughs, already plotting her next prank on the poor, unsuspecting mage)"
Nimwen - "I've learned your true siblings aren't always those you're bound to by blood. They may be, sure, but not always! Sometimes, the strongest family bonds are those we choose, bonds nurtured like a small weed that grows into a mighty tree - and I personally know that to be one of the most important truths of life. "
Rin - "I never really cared for that. That's just another word - and that's it, a word. Most bonds are a fantasy made to comfort the hearts of the common folk from the harsh truth. Real people are fickle, they don't care for you when they've got no use for what you have to offer. My Nest surely didn't. (There's a moment of pause and a sense of sorrow behind his eyes before he shakes it off with a sly smirk, hiding it) But who cares for that sentimental junk. Besides, gold's a much more reliable company, don't you think?"
Leora - "Family is the most important thing in the world - by blood or by choice it matters not as long as the sentiment is there and it is pure. I would do anything for my siblings and I know they would do anything for me. I know this all too well. Where we come from, you learn to make your actions and your words count - you never know what tomorrow might hold and you must cherish those you hold dear, always, because they can be taken from you. At least, that's my perspective."
Florynce - "Mine have been dead for many years now. I remember all of their names." (You think she's about to say something else about them, but she changes the subject so jarringly you almost feel whiplash) "I don't wanna talk about that. Do you want to see this cool bug I found? It's glowing."

Okay bear with me, I know how I met your mother ended ages ago but I’ll never get over the ending, it bothers me to no end because I love the show. Recently I had a discussion with a friend about the ending regarding Ted and Robin and we couldn’t agree so now I need to rant here as well.
So here’s my ted talk on Ted Mosby:
Robin and Ted shouldn’t have ended up together, they were zero compatible. Barney and Robin should have, not only for their great storyline but because he gets her. He accepts her for who she truly is. He knows she needs to be independent, she’s her own boss, her own person and he’s okay with it. The show was very specific that one of the many reasons Ted and Robin didn’t work out besides wanting different things in life, was that Ted wanted a princess. There’s a whole episode dedicated to showcasing how Ted wants a woman to need him but Robin doesn’t need him, in fact she doesn’t need anybody. That was the thing that made their relationship fail, Ted hated that she didn’t need him as much as he needed her, she didn’t love him as much as he loved her. Their love was unidirectional. Ted is the kind of guy who just needs to be part of a couple he doesn’t like being alone, we all know someone like that and Robin is not it.
I don’t dislike Ted, I think he is a great super relatable character just not right for Robin. Also he has a bit of a “nice guy complex” and that is one of his flaws as a person. He doesn’t get why he can’t get the committed relationship he wants if he’s a nice guy, with a decent job, who wants to settle down and a have a family. Which on paper is every girls dream, or what people think girls dream about. Despite claiming this, he was never genuinely interested in his partners, most of the times he dated some girl just because he didn’t want to be alone. I’m sorry but that bothers me. You can’t be romantically involved with someone just because you’re desperate to fulfill what you thinks is “the check-list of life” aka “the white picket fence, suburban family dream”, and what is even worse you can’t force someone like Robin that has different goals for her life to do it with you. That’s incredibly selfish.
There’s different guys for everything, there are the guys like Marshall and Ted that are the stereotype of the kind of guys you would take home and introduce to your parents, the one you have a serious relationship with or at least that’s what the show tries to tell us. In the other hand we have guys like Barney, that are the guys you fuck with once in a while because you want it kinky. But the guy spectrum shouldn’t be reduced to just that two extremes.
Now that we are getting to Barney, I know he was far from perfect, he made a lot of mistakes. But the one thing I have to defend him for is that he had very few serious committed relationships but he always gave his 100% in every one of them. Whereas Ted had a lot of serious relationships but he put at least 10% in each one. He was obsessed with finding the perfect girl, the one that accomplished all of his requirements and he had no problem in tossing aside the girls that he didn’t consider to be ideal partners.
He never understood (and the show never made him) the fact that a person perfectly designed for you doesn’t exist. You can find the ideal person for you but it’s never going to be perfect because the truth is that relationships requiere work and compromise and a bit of sacrifice. There will be things that your partner will do that you might dislike and that’s completely normal. The Netflix rom-com Set It Up has an amazing quote that fits this: “We like because and we love in spite of”. That’s it, that’s what relationships are all about and Ted failed to understand this. All of this is a perfectly reasonable explanation of why Ted and Robin shouldn’t have been together. Robin and Barney is my real endgame and I’ll pretend they are happily traveling the world for the rest of my life.

Five act structure: reason to hope
I don't usually make posts on Tumblr, but i think after st4 maybe i should.
I agree with a lot of criticism for s4 and share everyone's pain. Hope all of you are well or at least getting there.
But here's something I've been thinking, so read on if you want to get another perspective or a little bit of hope in the magic of storytelling.
If the Duffers knew for awhile that they would have 5 seasons, they might have planned s4-5 together, a two-parter of sorts. So the reason s4 feels incomplete is because it is! And the reason it doesn't offer all the things the marketing implied is because those were meant for s5.
I think the Duffers are playing the long game using the 5 act structure. You can read about it on the internet, for example here is a good general article which i'm gonna quote a little.
I want to talk specifically about the final suspense, which is an important narrative tool occurring in act 4.
In 5 act structure, the forth act is where everything that can go wrong, does. It's the darkest before the dawn part, the part where we, along with the characters, lose all hope for things to end well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's like Sam's speech in The two towers: "how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer."
I think there's reason to assume this is the structure the Duffers are planning.
First of all, the show is 5 seasons long. What better way to structure it than with five acts?
Secondly, other seasons seem to fall neatly into this structure.
For example, s3:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we go by this structure and try to imagine what s5 might look like, it also fits perfectly:
Tumblr media
Sound familiar? After the brutal and incomplete s4?
So if we assume Stranger Things is supposed to have this structure (which i think is reasonable and highly probable), then s4 is exactly the season where everything is so wrong it seems to never be right again.
But a new dawn is just around the corner.
A new hope if you will.
So take heart.
p.s. I know we've waited three years for this and didn't get much of anything resolved. I know we're all having trust issues right now irt the Duffers' plan and writing, but i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. We've loved this show for so long, it gave us a lot, we put so much passion, effort, skill and love into it that i think it's not entirely fair to anyone to just abandon all hope and judge an unfinished show.
We're all hurt and frustrated right now, and afraid to be hurt again in two years. But hope is hardly a bad thing. Remember: the story is not over yet, and some wonderful storytelling just might be still happening.
p.p.s. With byler and Robin x Vicky and Will's potential coming out it's also possible that it's just not allowed to make any of that explicit until well into s5. It can be part of the deal with netflix or something, for fear that anything more than "up to interpretation" will cost the platform a chunk of its viewership.
It's a sad possiblity to consider, but I'm speaking from experiences with other shows and fandoms.
Just as an example: the creators of Steven Universe faught tooth and nail for a lesbian wedding and a kiss on screen, WON THIS, but immediately got cancelled and faught some more for additional several episodes to conclude the series.
Obviously, they aren't the same shows, I'm not saying it's the same situation.
But stuff like this still happens, unfortunately.

RE: SRAR - I 100% agree with you, that it is a very red album to me too!
The Pheonix. Light 'Em Up. Death Valley. Young Volcanoes. So many of the song titles directly use imagery of fire, or miserable, all-consuming heat. I don't think it's a coincidence that the first two songs I mentioned are the two we heard first, and they both invoke the idea of burning everything down, in order to build something new. Even the poem you hear at the beginning of the "Miss Missing You" video ends with something like the words "Burn 'em all", iirc. And it's perfectly fitting, for where the band were then; They've passed through fire, and they're now reforged from the flames with new purpose.
And there's also, of course, plenty of red imagery throughout the Youngblood Chronicles, too. The aforementioned fire. The snakes with their red bands that appear a few times. The red pickup truck. The apples. And of course the blood. So much blood!
"Don't trust a band that wouldn't bleed for you" after all, right?
yes to all of this 😩 that's the thing i love about save rock and roll, it's the way songs are intertwined, often tightly, and there's a very consistent theme throughout every facet of it's creation. those themes are blatant with other records as well, but this one is very in your face about it – to me at least.
even songs that don't mention fire or heat in their titles still touch on it in their lyrics. "your hot whiskey eyes have fanned the flames / maybe i'll burn a little brighter tonight / let the fire breathe me back to life," "if heaven's grief brings hell's rain," and of course "rat a tat" is absolutely littered with fire references. i suppose you could even count the smoking of cigarettes in "where did the party go" as an indirect fire reference, as a flame is needed to light them and they glow orange from their heat. eight of eleven tracks involving flames of some sort is certainly painting the album as red.
and yes, the quote at the beginning of "miss missing you" – that was later added to copies of the record – drills the point home that the album has a specific theme. quoting it because it's so post-apocalyptic to me and i love the image it conveys:
they just sat back laughing at the wounded city, each breath sucking in ashes and fumes. oh it bled all right; drier than moore county. all expatriate fumes hurrying to find new nations of blinding dust. but the two of them. they just squinted at that pipe-cleaner skyline, and it burned hotter in their oil slick pupils. one elbowed the other and said "i've seen better." knowing that they were paid to remember the past - he blew out a hot breath and said "burn it all."
it's just so good?? and it makes so much sense being paired with "miss missing you" but also as an addition to the album. i don't know.
and touching back to the intertwining of songs, the redundancy of lyrics is so fun. some may argue it a lazy tactic, but imo it works so well that it's not. not even close. i've said it once and i'll say it again, "alone together" and "young volcanoes" are sisters to me, twins even. "this is the road to ruin," "when rome's in ruins" / "and we're starting at the end," "we're the beginning of the end" / "do you wanna feel beautiful," "do you wanna feel a little beautiful, baby." and the "and i said, i'll check in tomorrow if i don't wake up dead" between "alone together" and "rat a tat"? i love it so, so very much.
and of course the call backs in "save rock and roll" to "chicago is so two years ago" and "sugar, we're going down" is very fun and a [leonardo decaprio whistling and pointing at the tv] moment.
anyways, back to your original ask on color before i got completely side tracked (but felt i had to discuss). i am so glad you brought up the various calls to red in the youngblood chronicles as i have a project i've been working on for save rock and roll's 11th anniversary and it heavily revolves around red. and i can't elaborate because even i have no idea where i'm taking this lmao. i'm just going where the wind (curious thoughts) takes me.
so yeah. sorry for going off. i was on topic mostly until i became distracted by lyrics and the little cd booklet.
tl;dr: you are 100% right when you said "so many of the song titles directly use imagery of fire, or miserable, all-consuming heat" as the album is a scorcher in so many ways, and certainly is red through and through.

3, 7, 12 and 20! polytheist asks >:D
Oh you want me to THINK? You want me to use my BRAIN??? You are EVIL Cheshi lol
3: Is your practice more ritualistic or casual? What does it look like?
Oh my practice is extremely casual. I always hated the strict religious upbringing I had. "You do it this way, or else!". Nah fam, that's not cool. Everyone is gonna have their own way to worship, have faith, and perform religion (Yes I believe religion is a performance, but that's for another time lol). Anyways, I don't generally do much in the way of ritual because that's so much fucking work. I prefer just kinda chilling with Nyx on the full moon and calling it a night lol.
7: What does your ideal altar look like?
Chaotic, unhinged, and personal. I don't need it to be set up perfectly or invoke certain vibes, unless trash fire goblin is a vibe lmao. I really just put whatever on my altar I think fits. Right now, unfortunately, my altar isn't exactly what I want, because I don't really have space and the last time I set up an altar, Goose knocked it over. She was a brand new baby then, but even so I'd rather play it safe. I have this great cabinet at my parents house I plan on repainting and using when we have a house of our own. Its a really great size, glass doors so I can see what's inside, and bonus: cat's won't break any glass bottles on my altar lol. Rn I just have this very cue little moon shelf about 3 inches wide on a windowsill.
12: How important is mythology in your practice? How much credit do you give it?
I mean, mythology is the sourcework of all of my beliefs. I wouldn't have found Nyx, Hekate, Athena, and Artemis without Greek mythology, Bast without Egyptian mythology, or Loki without Norse mythology. Do their stories have any bearing on my beliefs? Not really. Them being the deities of their respective realms is all I really need. I know Nyx as the night, Hekate as magic, Athena as wisdom and intelligence, Artemis as the protectress, Bast as the keeper of cats, and Loki as chaos. How I interact with them is more based on my needs, versus what they have "done" in the myths that survived. Myths aren't any bit literal, just like any other religious text. We as humans are always interpreting things based on our own preconceived notions, our own beliefs, and that's not always what the original source intended. In fact, I'd argue that any human interpretation of the divine is automatically wrong. No single human belief can 100% be accurate. We will all have our own ideas of how things work. I, as a singular person, should not put any undue influence on myths that I personally think are worth "more" just because they are considered to be valid religious texts (cough cough Christians and the Bible cough cough). Myths are stories. They're fun, its fun to imagine our deities in various human scenarios. But the Divine are much more complex than their myths. I give the myths the same level of credibility I would any other that indirectly influenced my way of viewing the world. I wouldn't be who I am without the sum of the things I've read and learned over the years.
20: List a few of the deities you worship and associate each with a quote you think represents them best!
Oh lordy, you're killin me with this one Chesh lol.
Nyx: "I see the moon and the moon sees me/Nyx bless the moon and Nyx bless me" (see what I did there lmao?)
Bast: Specifically the same noise my cat makes when shes singing in the mirror. That it that's the quote lol.
Athena: All that bullshit about "tomato is a fruit but you don't put it in a fruit salad" lol. Also "Ho don't do it... oh my god" for whenever I do something (even mildly) foolish lol
Loki: OKAY SO little bit of backstory here: when I was just getting into my paganism, I was in a really shitty spot in life, physically, mentally, you name it. I came up with this phrase to help get me through it, and I generally proclaimed that anything wrong in my life was because of Loki (AS A JOKE, THEY LOVED IT). The quote was: May the deity who looks upon me in disdain look upon you with favor. It got me through shit, still does, and I still love Loki, even if they aren't my main deity anymore.

Everything I found in the new DRDT MV
SPOILERS AFTER THE CUT PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO DISCOVER THESE THINGS FOR YOURSELF
We’ll start with the footnotes. I found nearly all of them, the exception being [8] which I couldn’t find. I will provide timestamps for each, and try my best to explain what it means.
[1] (1:22) - It is talking about solving the crossword, meaning that J would go by Julia and Xander would be Alexander. It’s also saying that David isn’t in the crossword, yet Teruko is. I will go into more detail on the crossword later.
[2] (3:02) - Arabidopsis is a thale cress plant; Drosophila melanogaster is a fruit-fly; and E. coli is bacteria. I’m not quite sure how these link, though.
[3] (2:18) - Literally a quote from Title 17 of the United States Code; which talks about Copyright.
[4] (1:47) - This footnote is attached to a bit of text in the background that says “subtract 4, add to tetraphobia.”. Tetraphobia is the practice of avoiding the number 4, which is mentioned in the description.
[5] (3:10) - As it says in the description, this part of the song has been mistranslated several times, so there is no reliable translation for it.
[6] (2:02) - The little 6 can be found next to the hands that look like this: 🙏. I assume the previous hand gestures were referencing a specific prayer, but I’m not sure.
[7] (2:41) - I’m gonna be honest, there isn’t much to work with here. The footnote in the description isn’t much help and the little 7 appears to be attached to the word “mind”
[8] - I couldn’t find [8] in the video, however, I googled the quote from the description and it comes from Alice in Wonderland.
[9] (2:08) - Again, the footnote in the description isn’t that helpful. This time, its attached to “sing a degraded copy”. The phrase “degraded copy” is in pink, so it’s probably important (maybe), but I really don’t know.
[10] (2:01) - The bit in the description mentions that “10 in Roman Numerals is X” and footnote 10, can be found on the right of the big, pink X in the background. Maybe the footnote is hinting that only 10 people will die in DRDT, because the pink X is very similar to the dead portrait Xs.
[11] (1:32) - Now, this one is probably the most interesting, because it says that ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ doesn’t exist. Given that this video centres around David, we can assume that this is most likely talking about his sister that he mentioned in Chapter 2 Episode 10, Diana. She fits the amount of letters perfectly. As for why this footnote is attached to “suspicious gaps”, I’m not quite sure. All I know about the gaps, is that there’s four of them.
[12] (2:02) - This part of the video shows that one person received 16 votes, and no-one else received any. This fits in with the description talking about majority vote (YTTD ref? /hj)
[13] (2:40) - Now this one is definitely next to something that’s been encoded. It seems like it’s been encrypted into Base64, but when I put those letters and numbers into a decoder, I got utter nonsense. It could have been encrypted several times, or it could just not be Base64, I’m still trying to work that out. The symbol in the description appears to mean correct as well, which fits with the placement.
[14] (3:52) - This appears to be at the end of a long chain of numbers, split into several parts. If you look at the equals symbol in the back, you’ll find the little 14. The hint in the description says “word length of 256″, which I could easily link to ASCII. ASCII is a form of character storage which only has 256 possible characters. Again, I’ll figure out what all the numbers mean, and translate it into something readable at some point.
[15] (1:48) - Not quite sure what to say here. The 15 is attached to the word “happiness” and the description talks about “ignorance is bliss”
[16] (2:50) - This is found on several screenshots(?) of a music sheet, which is “Entry of the Gladiators” by Julius Fucik.
[17] (2:01) - Probably the first footnote I spotted, I think I noticed it during my first watch, when it premiered. The description is right though, “Democratic-ly” isn’t a word.
[18] (3:04) - This one can be found with the dandelions (weed). I don’t know what the description is talking about though, the flowers are beautifully drawn ^^
[19] (3:42) - This one’s quite interesting because it’s part of a conversation. Not quite sure what it’s about but I’m pretty sure one of the mystery people is David.
[20] (1:53) - The description mostly explains that the 5 stages of grief are kind of outdated because they can be classed as reductionist, only considering nature.
[21] (3:49) - Again, another pretty simple one that I’m not sure I need to really explain.
[22] - This one is literally on screen for barely a second right at the very end, just before the video stops.
Now, I’ll move on to discuss the YouTube comment type things that appeared on the screen at around 1:09. These are in the order of when the appeared on screen (i think lol).
1.  “ ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ is like the byakuya/nagito/kokichi of the cast.” - This is probably talking about David, given the personality he showed during Chapter 2 Episode 11. Also, David has the right amount of letters. 2. “lets play spot the komaeda.” - Again, most likely about David. 3. “I like that  ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ is a protagonist who also plays the antag[onist]” 4. This one is likely about Teruko given how she’s our protagonist and can be quite antagonistic at times. (*cough* pulling a knife out on several people during Chapter 2 *cough*) 5. “mm  ⚪⚪⚪⚪ anyone?” - Not sure who this is talking about because there are so many people who have a four-letter name. (Levi, Whit, Arei, Nico, Rose and Eden) 6. “⚪ and  ⚪⚪⚪⚪ totally swapped places” - Ok, this is definitely about the J and Arei swapped theory. 7. “ ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ will obviously die in ch5″ - Could be talking about David again, but there’s something later in the video that might suggest otherwise, which I’ll talk about later on. 8. “I just hope ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ doesn’t go crazy and kill in chapter 3. That would be way [too] predictable.” - Arturo 100% 9. “Everyone in the comment section is a fucking idiot” - Now this one’s kind of mean, but also very interesting. This could be David telling us we’re all wrong, or the creators.
At about 1:22, a crossword shows up briefly, as mentioned during [1]. I like crossword type things so I took some time to solve it. After this crossword shows up, there are several bits of text, which are matched with a roman numerals, so I matched those phrases up to the roman numerals from the crossword.
Across:
I. Alexander IV. Arei - “Right now, why do you cry?” VI. Arturo - “mind exercises 1234” VIII. Nico - “even if I try to think, idk!!! (lmao)” IX. Levi - “look aside from that, give me the usual medicine” - I wasn’t sure what was going on here XII. Eden - “But you’re in my way, aren’t you?” XIII. Teruko - “or” / “To be or not to be” XV. Whit - “Remaining ignorant, isn’t that “happiness”?” XVI. Hu - “Go and cry.”
Down:
II. Rose - “Ego cogito ergo (terbatus) sum” III. Charles - “If you doubt brittle things are broken.” V. Ace - “Right now, why do you go insane?” VII. Julia - “Do it like that, let’s live together” X. Min - “Democratic-ly”  XI. Mai - “God is dead” XIV. Veronika - “Things like substance of the arts”
And to finish off this post, I’ll talk about anything extra that couldn’t fit anywhere else. I’ll provide timestamps as well, lol.
(0:37) - Text says “I am a cat” before the word dog quickly covers the word cat. This could be a reference to how MonoTV looks like a cat, but insists they are a dog.
(1:00) - Text that is very briefly on screen says: “I did love you once so you should not have believed me.”
(1:04) - The person on screen looks like she could be Mai? Not really sure here, but she seems important.
(1:05) - Text at the bottom of the screen says “I’m guilty as charged. Sorry, we’re not there yet.” This could be a reference to how David says “I’m guilty as charged” in Chapter 2 Episode 11.
(1:28) - Text in red says “I hate the things that I love, and I love the tings that I hate.” This could be a reference to the photos of Mai and Teruko.
(2:02) - “Voting results: Everyone will be executed. There is no such thing as “victory” in a killing game.” This does not look good for the DRDT cast.
(2:22) - This looks like Xander. It looks like its from before he got his eyepatch, but that could just be the angle. If it is from before, does this mean David knew Xander before the killing game but lost(?) those memories.
(2:38) - “Note to self: put something here” Maybe something will be added to the video later?
(3:00) - “portrait of someone dearly loved” with an arrow pointing to the photo of Mai Akasaki. Maybe David loved Mai before something tragic happened?
(3:00) - “portrait of someone dearly unloved” with an arrow pointing to the photo of Teruko Tawaki. I think Teruko has something to do with whatever happened to Mai and David hates her for it. I think David was the person at the very beginning of the very first episode of DRDT, he’s the only person that I think has a motive. You can also spot a fork in the background of the MV and at the beginning of the prologue.
(3:04) - There’s a QR code on the books to the right. I haven’t been able to scan it so I don’t know what it leads to yet.
(3:06) - The supporting cast list has Mai Akasaki scribbled out and what looks like “Ms Naegi”  cut off underneath it. On the right of the screen, there was faint text that says: “(i.e. these are the only characters who make an appearance.) which could mean that Arei, Hu and Ms Naegi are in the video. This is a stretch but maybe Hu killed Arei. Probably not, though.
(3:10) - It looks like Xander is the one holding the gun here.
(3:20) - No, that’s wrong!
(3:44) - The lyrics here say “I’ll disappear” and David disappears from the chair, leaving what looks like splattered blood. The words “Chapter 3″ flash on the screen, though its cut off. David dies in Chapter 3 maybe?
Thank you for reading this extremely long post; I’ll reblog it anytime I get more information.

Two fandom blorbos and two oc blorbos. Still holding that gun.
Oh, easy. Spoilers for the end of Skulduggery Pleasant book 3, and much vaguer spoilers for book 7 (just scroll until you see the Drow in the green cloak to skip them)
Fandom first. Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain, the main duo of my absolute favourite book series, Skulduggery Pleasant. I’ll assume you know nothing about them because that lets me ramble even more
At the start of the series, Valkyrie is 12 and her uncle just got murdered as part of a plot to bring back ancient eldritch gods (of course, they don’t know that from the get-go). She meets Skulduggery when a nameless henchman (who I later found out from the wiki is called Vindick Leather) breaks into her uncle’s house while she’s staying there for the night and attacks her; Skulduggery then uses air magic to blast the front door off of its hinges, sets the guy on fire, shoots him in the shoulder, and loses his disguise in the fight therefore revealing that he’s a skeleton
Long story short, she takes his hat hostage and threatens to trample it if he doesn’t let her tag along, and now she’s his partner in crime
Sorcerers choose their own names by the way, so Skulduggery literally named himself Trickery, and this happened before he became a skeleton and it also became a pun. Valkyrie named herself partway through their first case
Great, context and exposition out of the way! I LOVE THEIR DYNAMIC SO SO MUCH!! They shaped pretty much my entire sense of humour, I love them, I’ve loved them since I was 9 or so and I wanted to be like Valkyrie when I grew up. The way they bounce off of each other, the way they’re perfectly in sync, the little codes and recurring phrases they have that only have meaning to them (“the sparrow flies south for winter”, “doors are for people with no imagination”, and “until the end”). I just love them both so much
The fact that Valkyrie was willing to open the portal to the home world of ancient eldritch gods who despise humanity, just on the very slim chance he would be alive and have even the smallest shred of sanity left, after having been dragged there a year prior. The fact that Skulduggery was willing to go into complete and total isolation for eternity to protect her in the magic equivalent of cryogenic sleep if it came down to that. They would do literally anything for each other. I think I’m running out of ways to put how much I adore their dynamic into words, so I’ll sum it up as the ideal example of platonic soulmates. They’re very, very special to me
I mostly just talked about the serious side of their dynamic because I have no clue how to put the more lighthearted side into words without rattling off quotes. Rest assured, they are also hilarious
Skulduggery is also very quotable, too
Right, OC time. I have a limited selection; most OCs I made have been lost to time, either because they got attached to bad memories (like Kai Zoku, who I am only mentioning because I still think his name is great; it’s literally just the Japanese word for pirate and he was the Ultimate Pirate Captain. It’s an Ace Attorney level name pun, I love it), or because the D&D campaign they were made specifically for crashed and burned and I never found somewhere else for them to fit (looking at you, Myra.. at least I could recycle her name into my GW2 character)
Anyway! This is Kyrae, my Drow Warlock. Her campaign has been on a cliffhanger for two years and is officially coming back next month! This is a picrew, but I edited all of the colours myself. It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s the best I can do
Tumblr media
Kyrae (no last name) is from the jungle region of Xen’drik, a continent where dinosaurs still roam and everything is shrouded in disorienting, cursed mist. Her campaign is in Eberron, a lesser-used official setting, and Eberron Drow are split into three main cultures; the Sulatar, the Umbragen, and the Vulkoori
Kyrae is Vulkoori, a culture of many tribes - some more nomadic than others - who all worship the scorpion god Vulkoor, all in different ways. In Kyrae’s tribe, he has the epithets Vulkoor the Hunter and Vulkoor the Wrathful. They honour him via skilled hunting, and when given a reason to, being so ruthless and brutal that they’ve gained a reputation as bloodthirsty. That reputation came from their enemies, but they’ve never corrected it. They’re mostly isolated, with a few good allies to trade with
Her cloak was a gift from her best friend, Ryzul, who was stung by a scorpion while they were out hunting together. He was dead before they got home. Kyrae overheard a discussion about what to do; this was clearly a sign that Vulkoor was angry with the tribe, so maybe a sacrifice would appease him. And who better, than the victim’s closest friend, who was with him at the time? It’s been implied that there was another reason for that decision, but that was said out of character, so she has no idea
She ran when she heard that, and didn’t stop until she bumped into a shadowy figure wearing a smooth, white mask, with nothing but three black crescents in the shape of a smiling face. An Archfey. He seemed surprised that she could see him, and they struck a deal. She clearly needed help, and he was incredibly bored, so he would provide that help and she would provide a good story to watch. He helped her find the only port, and she boarded a ship to Korvaire, the continent the campaign takes place on
Fast forward maybe 20 minutes after stepping off of the boat. Kyrae caught a goblin child pickpocketing her, which lead to a guard attempting to throw the goblin off of a ledge, which of course lead to combat. Kyrae wasn’t having that, no harm had actually been done. For her first turn in the first combat in her first hour of being on this continent, she had her familiar, Vanguard (a winged mongoose who was summoned on the boat ride, more on him later), barrel into the guard and send him hurtling off the ledge. The rest of the party saw the fight break out, helped her, and she just kind of started following them because no one objected. They’re her tribe now, and her entire sense of identity, morality, and purpose is based on them, what she thinks they would or would not approve of, etc
So, Vanguard. A winged mongoose. The wings don’t have much significance, I had a choice between a familiar that can fly or a familiar that can swim really fast. They’re feathered, but I was so indecisive about what they actually look like that I ended up deciding they’re from a different bird every time he’s summoned. Now, the other half of his description is way more important, and I spent SO LONG deciding on it. I didn’t concern myself with specific species because then I would have never settled on one and he’s technically a Fey anyway, but. A mongoose is not only an animal Kyrae could have reasonably seen before, but they’re known for resisting venom and fighting venomous animals. Kyrae just turned her back on a scorpion god. It’s simple, but I think I’m clever. This art is, as always, by @prince-frederic
Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM. I LOVE HIM. MY SON
I could also talk about everything Kyrae is now dealing with and the trauma that’s happened, but I think that’s enough paragraphs about her for now /lh
I’ve already explained Sigurd’s full backstory once or twice here, so I think I’ll pick Vivian for my next OC
This is Vivian Harker, a Bloodborne OC! The token is a picrew that I did the colours for again, and the art is once again by Milo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll pull back the curtain a bit here; she was inspired by Hammerlock! More specifically, it went like this:
Hammerlock would be really fun to have in Bloodborne, but I obviously can’t just take an existing character and use him in this TTRPG. It boils down to someone having the time of their life fighting the horrible monstrosities and maybe writing things down about them - can’t take cool trophies when you need to stay mobile. How do I justify that in such a dark setting? Maybe their dad was a hunter and they’ve grown up hearing stories about it, but they have no idea what they’re actually getting themselves into!
The end result is Vivian, who’s thrilled to be playing out the stories she’s grown up with now, and is filling out a sketchbook (with suspiciously red ink) along the way. She became a 16 year old white girl because she was made for a TTRPG campaign, and I can’t change my voice very much. She has no idea that when her father told those stories, he left out the traumatic parts
Daniel Harker was a fairly accomplished hunter. I say was, because this time, he refused to leave home to hunt. That was the first sign that something wasn’t right. The rest were little things, like teeth that are slightly sharper than before, eyes that reflect light like a cat’s. Little things, that indicated some kind of transformation was coming
Vivian could tell. She knew that the monsters used to be people, that hunters get affected the worst of all. She couldn’t get answers, though. So she took his equipment - the clothes a little too big for her - and left only a note to explain where she had gone
She’s thrilled to be here, to actually be fighting these creatures she’s been told about so many times, to be slowly filling her book with sketches and notes, but time is limited. She just doesn’t know how limited
The other, crucial thing she doesn’t know, is that there are no happy endings to be had in Yharnam
AND THEN THE DM GHOSTED ME SO SHE NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO DEVELOP OR ACTUALLY EXIST. SHE WAS OLDER THAN ME WHEN I MADE HER. THAT’S HOW LONG SHE’S BEEN IN STASIS
Anyway. Two fandom blorbos and two OCs!

Any interesting thoughts on aspects?
you want me to talk about aspect meta and theory? well... i mean
Tumblr media
if you insist?
THOUGHTS UNDER THE CUT
lets get this part over with.
i think that within the context of homestuck as a primarily character driven narrative, classes are more quote unquote "important" in homestuck with regard to said characters and their arcs.
this is because the classes themselves are meant to embody archetypes, or assembly of personality types and tropes, of a character.
this is the stuff that we, as a reader, like to read about, because when you usually read a work of fiction you read it for the characters.
the aspects, meanwhile, are more like the fundamental thematic make-up of sburb itself, and to that extent, every universe that is destined to play sburb is governed by these 12 aspects within their frame of reality. (ON SOME LEVEL THAT CAN BE AS NARROW OR AS BROAD AS SUITS THE NEEDS)
while aspects ARE important to a character and in their arc, you could theoretically replace them with any other aspect and, if you are able to broaden the narrative and figurative definition of said aspect, would function exactly the same as the character's original aspect.
they are interpretative and highly apt to change its strict application in order to fit within the archetype of the class.
but i mean.
you could get all that from the extended zodiac website which i forgot to actually look at before writing all that. so.....
...
anyway, the majority of sburb and the game is dictated by the concept of duality! usually through conflict, but harmonious duality is also a pretty strong theme.
like if you would look at this silly wheel with me
Tumblr media
(oh my god why does it look so big on the post editor) there are actually a lot of ways you can split the aspects in half and still apply meaningful comparison in any direction.
theres a lot of what i call "retroactive nuance" in the aspects and classes, where its ideas and interpretations that. are probably definitely not intended in the original homestuck canon.
buuut this nuance that is taken by the readers is still meaningful and applicable, because homestucks driving philosophy doesnt lie in whats literal and can be perfectly explained in the text, but rather through fan interpretation.
homestuck invented a character literally created just to speculate on the nature of homestuck. (i love u calliope)
i have no thoughts (right now) about any aspect specifically...other than this: rage aspect gets a bad rap and i think it can be a very helpful aspect in a session. its not its fault that it was hijacked by murderclowns.

Genuinely the academia fic makes me want to read every poem you cited!! Oh my god. Obviously I looked up Staying Quiet and I had a moment of stunned silence and wonder that you specifically knew the poem and exactly where it would be at home. Insane. Also reminded me of other great academia AUs in that now I almost want to write my english lit end of semester essays, thank you for the motivation. Anyway I'm here and not in the AO3 comment section because in the author's note at the start you mentioned having planned out what the characters would be doing and since you were on point with what you showed I am so so curious what else you've got for this setting 👀 in any case thank you so much <3
up top, thank you so much!! amongst my friends, i am a known poetry heaux. i go to poetry readings and feel my feelings; my partner got me a necklace that's engraved with a buddy wakefield quote. i have one of his collections signed to me. i fucking Love poetry.
hieu minh nguyen is one of my personal favorites and something was pinging around in my skull being like "hey! listen! there's a poem from them that perfectly fits astarion!" it fell Perfectly into place, shout out to my adhd background thoughts that were So Sure that hieu minh nguyen's poem should be there.
i'm going to put the rest below the cut, because. i have A Lot of thoughts and feelings
let's start with what i directly used in all my visions converted to blurs:
wyll is a low-rung english professor at a state school when he Could be at an ivy league bc of his dad’s nepotism. but wyll doesn't want a position his dad gets him, obvi. i want wyll to want to be out of his father's shadow, damn it.
(ulder is dean of a business school at an ivy league in my mind. it just fits. as a person with an english/linguistics degree: ulder ravengard has hella business major energy.)
astarion has taken a year or four off from school at this point. i hinted at substance abuse being the main reason that it's taken him so long to graduate from the law program? when he was the same age as his classmates, i think he partied A Lot and ended up having to retake some classes during his undergrad. i think i landed on coke being his chosen vice? idk it's vague for a reason. he's trying to get his life back on track
wyll and gale share an office space.
now here's what i left on the cutting room floor:
astarion is Still older than wyll, but not by more than six years
mizora is head of the english department. wyll has to play nice bc he's waiting to defend his dissertation and she'll be on the panel. she uses this to push her work or responsibilities onto wyll
lae'zel is doing her doctorate in anthropology/paleoanthropology. she's researching ancient war strategies and how social norms impacted them.
minthara is lae'zel's advisor because they'd have a Great dynamic. she specializes in biological anthropology. she can ball park which century any given human skull comes from.
shadowheart is working on her doctorate of psychology and specifically writing her dissertation profiling the susceptibility of cult victims mixed with religious studies to compile information about modern worship
1000000000% there are rumors about shadowheart's personal experience with cults. people say she goes by shadowheart so the cult she escaped from can't find her. she's heard every joke in the book about midsommar. there's some frat boy in the greek row that swears up and down that she bit his buddy hard enough to draw blood when they hooked up.
halsin and jaheira do ecology and agriculture, respectively. environmental sciences people. they both have tenure. halsin runs an internship for wetland management in the summer. jaheira is like a leading expert in soil science.
jaheira told mizora she was a bitch during a whole university department head meeting once and that's why halsin's the department head now.
minsc is literally just a coach. he does not teach Any classes and hangs out with the university's mascot Constantly. he coaches rugby and crew in the summer, basketball in the winter.
gale is a double discipline professor for history and cultural anthropology. So Close to getting tenure. his rate my professor score is mid as hell bc students either love or hate him because boy does this man drone onnnnnnnnnn
he's been on like four different digs in egypt and will talk about them at length but does that thing of "my second time in cairo. wait.... no. it was my Third time in cairo."
i posted this on twitter, but here's the couch lore: the couch in their office is a hand me down from gale's apartment because tara scratched it to hell on the corner of the armrests + the reason why the couch doesn't have any throw pillows is because gale didn't want to be tempted to nap and he already has a terrible time maintaining a work life balance
karlach is in sports medicine. she coaches the track team and works with weightlifters that have olympic aspirations. she was good enough to go to the last summer games for weightlifting, but an accident with a treadmill that she doesn't like to talk about prevented her from going.
she still has beef with gortash because he was on the shortlist for open spot availability.
she's Convinced that he's on steroids

What are your thoughts about the epilogue? Specifically this sentence :
It took five, ten, fifteen years for me to agree. But Peeta wanted them so badly.
How do you interpret it?
Thank you so much.
@curiousnonny
Thank you for the question, Nonny!
Let me start with saying I absolutely love the epilogue. It is bittersweet - Peeta and Katniss's story does not end with "they lived happily ever after". And it fits so much better this way. They both had gone through too much to ever be wholly healed. It is understandable that they both still have bad moments, that they are haunted by their fears and nightmares. They can't go back to who they used to be before the Games. But they had built their own kind of happiness - more precious, perhaps, because it wasn't given, but had to be earned.
"They play in the Meadow. The dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. The boy with blond curls and gray eyes, struggling to keep up with her on his chubby toddler legs." The scene itself seems almost idyllic. Two young children, carefree and happy, running and dancing in the meadow. But the reader knows what the children have yet to learn; they play on a graveyard.
The Meadow itself is a curious place. It is full of memories - the good and the bad ones. The horrors of the past surround Katniss and Peeta, are mixed into the happiness of the present and the hopes for the future. These memories will never truly leave, but Katniss and Peeta manage to keep on living, in spite of that.
The children physically resemble their parents, but they seem to have a sort of innocence neither Katniss nor Peeta were ever allowed to have. Katniss describes her children in a rather vague way, not even using their names. We don't know how old the children are; the boy is a toddler, so around 1-3, the girl goes to school, so at least 5 or 6.
It might be also read as a message; this part of Katniss's life is going to be kept private. She is finally free to do so.
Another thing that came to my mind; the epilogue sounds a bit as if Katniss was talking to a reporter, during the interview, or to another person; a friend, perhaps? Annie? Johanna? That's why she wants to protect her children's privacy.
Now, about this quote: "It took five, ten, fifteen years for me to agree. But Peeta wanted them so badly."
It is a puzzling sentence. Five, ten, fifteen years - so how many exactly? Katniss obviously is trying to say, it took a long time.
In my opinion "five, ten, fifteen years" is her way of trying to remember certain events. She goes back in time and recollects the times Peeta has asked. A "zero" time point is when she and Peeta became a couple (grew back together). So, "five years" later was the first time Peeta mentioned wanting to have children. Perhaps it was not long after they got married (it would explain why Katniss remembers this year). "Ten years" might be an important event in their life (fifth wedding anniversary, perhaps), and "fifteen" - around the time Katniss decided to try for a baby. Since the epilogue takes place more than twenty years after the end of the Mockingjay, it would go well with their daughter's possible age.
It makes perfect sense that Katniss wouldn't want to have children right after the end of the series. She was quite opposed to the idea for many years. She needed a time to heal, to find her peace, to accept that her new family was going to be safe. She has already lost Prim - her father - her mother, too, to some point. She had to rebuild her life before welcoming children into the world.
So, I think it is perfectly understandable that she waited this long. Katniss deciding to start a family is an important symbol: it means that the world they live in is a safe, more peaceful place. It is a symbol of Katniss and Peeta moving on, in spite of their memories.
The description of Katniss's fears while carrying her children is understandable as well. "When I first felt her stirring inside of me, I was consumed with a terror that felt as old as life itself." Katniss had known the loss before. There were so many deaths she had seen; many death she had unvoluntarily caused. Such trauma couldn't leave her unmarked.
She had decided to have children because Peeta had wanted them badly; but it took her fifteen years to agree. It shows just how supportive these two were of each other. She aknowledged his dreams and hopes, but he gave her as much time as she needed. He didn't push her into something she wasn't ready for, but waited patiently for her to decide. She put his dreams ahead of her fears.
It shows how mature and understanding their relationship truly was.

Raccoon the type of mf to say "I don't take orders from you" at graves when he tries telling him to do something, or anyone he feels threatened by.
I feel like it's like- when Ghost was first introduced he had a hard time controlling him because he has the "I do whatever I want" mentality. He's gotten the "I don't take orders from you" from Raccoon so many times which pissed him off bc Ghosts a lieutenant(the only person who could order him at the time was Price).
Once Graves got a "I only take orders from Ghost" when Raccoon got better at following directions.
Edit: it sounds like I was saying he doesn't listen to authority- he does. He's just... defensive. I personally don't like when people try and push me around with certain things/prying for something (like hand holding? Just a pet peeve) so l feel like I'd be like... Very aggressive if like Graves tried pushing me around. Like if Ghost was trying to get him to do something, usually Raccoon would complain about it but he'll do it. I just hate Graves lmao
---
Soap has like, not a thick Scottish accent, but sometimes he'll say things thick and Raccoon will stare at him like he just said a slur.
Sometimes he'll say things in Gaelic or something and it will make Raccoon laugh or something.
SOMETIMES, Raccoon will show Soap Scottish Twitter and Soap just watches Raccoon break down into a giggle fit while trying to stay still.
"Is it that funny?" "Absolutely-"
---
Raccoon will like, every chance he gets, use duolingo to learn more Spanish (bc I didn't go 4 years learning the language- I don't know how to fully converse with people in the language but I do know how to say El superhéroe es fuerte) for Alejandro and Rudy.
The bit where they're driving in Las Almas and Alejandro turns around to ask if they knew Spanish Raccoon would say "un poco espanol". He now rags on Graves for butchering Spanish (bc I rag on him for butchering Spanish).
---
Gaz and Raccoon will like, walk around and talk. Not like going on a stroll or something, they'll walk around the base off duty while repeating things to each other or talking about themselves/working with Price and Ghost.
Raccoon thinks it's just like icebreakers kind of thing but Gaz does it so if Raccoon stims (the urge to jump/wave my arms and yell Yippee is strong here) he can release the energy.
Ghost has picked up on this ritual. He'll do it sometimes with Raccoon.
---
Price treats Raccoon like someone left him with a kid he doesn't want to take care of-- because Raccoon will look over everything and sometimes pry at something to look at. He sometimes will tell him to knock it off.
However if someone else were to tell him to stop Price will get on their asses about it.
---
Ghosts refers to training Raccoon as babysitting duty, and wanted nothing to do with him. That being said, Raccoon will gravitate to the safest person (that's usually Ghost) and will basically, metaphorically, attach himself to Ghost until told to leave.
Now, Ghost doesn't tell him to leave because he doesn't need too (Ghost just wants to keep an eye on him).
Basically both Price and Ghost are the "I've only had Raccoon for a day but if anything happens to him I'll kill everyone in this room and them myself" but Ghost specifically more.
---
Gaz is the only person closest to Raccoons age, and the only person who responds to memes perfectly. They do the thing where they repeat a meme at each other all the time it's not even funny.
They also quote vines to each other, mimic each other, and usually one of them distracts the other (Raccoon to Gaz most of the time). Just two peas in a pod bruh.
---
That's it. My goofy ass likes thinking about them 💪💪💪

Oh what's this? I'm posting original art for once?
Wow a rare sight indeed.
This is a remake of an old OC of mine.
More in depth talk about them and the original design below the cut.
Lyr, this OC of mine, originally looked like this.
Tumblr media
Or well, their second version at least. This was their first redesign from an even older version that I had created about 2 or 3 years ago.
I was mostly happy with this version of Lyr but as I grew older it really bothered me how basic their design looked. There was just nothing going on. So I decided to completely remake their design.
As for some general info on all three versions:
The first design for Lyr was even more basic with a simple plain dress with no designs and one color. They did however have dual colored hair. Lyr's very first design was inspired by a few character designs from the Wind Waker. Especially with their staff with was very much just the Wind Waker itself, really :P
Lyr's second design was mostly inspired by Nahyuta from the Ace Attorney series. Very obvious in the colors and the weird floaty thing. Still kept the elf ear aspect which I took over from their first Zelda inspired design. This was the version I stuck with for most of the time. Up until now.
"Lyr's" newest design is, as it's very obvious, inspired by unicorns. Specifically the Last Unicorn. My older sister and I talked about the movie again because it is really important to me from my childhood. Which of course struck inspiration and so I created this new design. (I know the patterns on the clothes don't aligned perfectly with the way the dress flows, but I was too far in to change it).
The reason I keep putting "Lyr's" name in quotes now is because the name doesn't suit them no longer. I've been thinking about a new name but I haven't found one yet. Might take a little longer until I find something fitting for them now.

Re: The SECRETS of the colorless Guards (RQ Ep.142) - Identity and Innocence
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk8qCCDbQGg
This post will probably be redundant because the conclusion is going to be something everyone already knows about. But screw it. It’s my blog. If I wanna write an essay about discovering grass is green, I’m gonna write it, and you can’t stop me.
In episode 142 of Rainbow Quest, we are introduced to the Colorless Guards and how they function. I thought about how the Colorless Guard contributes to the themes I’ve observed in the series so far.
I have been analyzing how Rainbow Quest explores the theme of unity. To quote one of my thoughts from a previous reaction post:
The “one” theme will probably establish the Darkness and Rainbow Kingdom as thematic foils. Darkness is forcing people to unite as one, while Rainbow Kingdom is a group of Steves willing to unite as one for a common goal (though they’re uniting to survive against the Darkness, so ironically the Darkness is still forcing them to unite)
The Colorless Guards fit into the theme of unity perfectly. Rainbow Kingdom and the Colorless Guards are both symbols of voluntary unity, being a foil to Darkness, which represents involuntary unity.
But when trying to figure out how the Colorless Guards relates to the theme of identity, that’s where my analysis starts getting messy.
The Colorless Guards are also a foil to Rainbow Steve and the Rainbow Kingdom. Instead of one Steve being forced into the image of the hero, we have multiple Steves who volunteer to become faceless heroes. And while the Rainbow Kingdom seems to celebrate the uniqueness of the different colors and their powers, the Guards have a strict uniform, training sessions, and fighting styles that all Steves, regardless of their color, must follow.
Why are the Colorless Guards uniformed? How does hiding their true colors accomplish anything?
The journals say that the armor doesn’t show Steve’s true colors to prevent bias. While trying to protect all Steves without bias is a noble cause, armor cannot make you unlearn all your biases instantly.
Also, Steves differ in their powers. The journals imply that Light Steve taught all the Colorless Guards to fight in the same style. Are the Colorless Guards just not allowed to use their Color-specific abilities? If Light Steve is discouraging the Colorless Guards from using their unique powers and fighting styles, then he is discouraging the Colorless Guards from showing their true colors while they are being heroes. The last time we saw a hero hide their color type, it was with Orange!Rainbow Steve, and that went horribly, horribly wrong.
The Darkness forces people to lose their identities by forcing them into a hivemind. Meanwhile, the Colorless Guard is voluntarily becoming a faceless army. A faceless volunteer army is better than a hivemind, but there is still a loss because these volunteer heroes had to give up their uniqueness to protect their kingdom.
Ultimately, the Colorless Guards hiding their true colors is another tragic example of Steves losing their identities to show strength. Just like Violet Leader sacrificing his image of benevolent love, these volunteers are sacrificing their unique color traits to be part of a faceless army.
Identity and heroism are two themes I have talked about in this post re:Reverse Steve arc. One question I raised in that post is: “why is darkness associated with losing your identity?” The introduction of the Colorless Guards reframes that question, because we now see Steves sacrificing their uniqueness to resist the Darkness. In this show, both embracing the Darkness and fighting the Darkness are associated with loss of identity. This means that just by interacting with the Darkness, you lose your identity.
What universal force causes you to lose your identity just by crossing paths with you? After mulling over this question, I think I figured it out: Darkness has never been about losing your identity. In my initial reactions, I thought Rainbow Quest’s theme was about identity and loss of identity. But the Colorless Guards showed me I was wrong.
We’re not seeing characters lose their identities, we’re seeing them lose their innocence. Rainbow Quest’s theme isn’t about identity, it’s about innocence. Rainbow Quest isn’t a story about becoming a hero and navigating new responsibilities, Rainbow Quest is a story about losing your innocence and learning how to navigate the world after you lose it.
We see characters lose their child-like innocence and second-guess themselves just by the Darkness entering their lives. Their loss of innocence is represented through either an internal change (Violet Leader, Sabre) and/or a physical change (Reverse, Light, Rainbow, Void, Colorless Guards, Nightmare). No matter what they do, they all change just by interacting with the Darkness. Darkness kills innocence.
There we go: the obvious “grass is green” conclusion of my analysis. “Wow, really?? The series that traumatizes characters is a story about characters losing their innocence?? No shit!!” But really, this is my conclusion. Why am I so interested in this obvious conclusion that everyone else thought of? It’s because I’m fascinated with how the “loss of innocence” theme connects to Rainbow Quest’s other theme with “unity,” specifically in what the Darkness represents.
Throughout the story, we get lore drops about how Darkness affects characters’ pasts more than they are comfortable with: the first Hero is Void, Orange!Rainbow was set up by Void, Sabre was brought into this world by Void. Darkness is a major player in the lore and how things are in the story. Several characters in the story lose their innocence when they got overwhelmed by how powerful Darkness is.
Let me paint you a picture: imagine a little kid. This little kid has ambitions and believes that as long as they work hard, they can take on the world! But as the kid grows up, the kid realizes the world isn’t as simple as they thought, and their dreams aren’t that easy to achieve. There are financial, physical, mental, and social barriers that make it hard for the kid to achieve their goals, no matter how hard they work. There are systems in place that make certain groups of people have a greater advantage than other groups of people. When the kid becomes a teenager or an adult, they have had enough. They believe that they can’t achieve their dreams. They have a broader perspective of the world now and can no longer find meaning in it. The teenager or adult settle for a more “realistic” goal or job. They put their head down whenever an external factor antagonizes them, bearing the pain and inconvenience. Dreams are left unfulfilled. The person who was once a kid just feels like a gear in an uncaring machine. A pawn.
When you’re innocent, you feel like you can do anything you set your mind to; you think you have everything under control and the only thing that stands in your way is demotivation. But in reality, there are some things that just bar people from certain dreams or put so many unbelievable obstacles in front of us. And everyone eventually has to learn that.
Like with the identity theme, I’m also wrong about Rainbow Quest being about unity. While the Darkness is forced unity, it’s also an external factor controlling you against your will. In Rainbow Quest, characters are innocent by believing they are in control of their situation or that they can defend themselves. The first Yellow King we meet is confident that the Yellow Crystal is enough to protect his kingdom. Sabre didn’t believe that the Darkness set him up. That innocence is killed when characters realize there are bigger things out there controlling the stage, using the characters as pawns. The death of innocence is represented with the aformentioned internal or physical transformation.
When characters learn how all-encompassing and influential the Darkness is, they lose their innocent belief that they have control over their situations. They feel vulnerable. They feel used. The Darkness literally turns characters into pawns of its hivemind, which represents people losing their innocent idealism and starting to see themselves as cogs of a machine. Even if the Darkness doesn’t infect you, the effect is still enough to make you still feel like a pawn or someone else entirely, like the Colorless Guards or Violet Leader.
Rainbow Quest explores the tragedy of realizing that so many things are stacked against you. Realizing that where you stand now is a result of a bloody, violent, complicated history. Realizing that you can’t define your life easily, because external factors already carved out paths for you.
You can abandon your dreams and do what outsiders expect of you. Or you can resist and build your own life despite the external factors against you. But regardless, you’ll never be the same naive person again. You can’t go back to the innocent times when you didn’t have to worry about external factors or uncomfortable history. The only way left is to go is forward. Or go back in time to renew the time loop.
tl;dr: All characters start off innocently thinking they are in control of their life and dreams, until Darkness comes in to prove them wrong. One episode of Sabre reading Light Steve’s journal was enough to make me redo my entire analysis series. Yes, my frustration against systemic inequality was showing in this post. My analysis referred to systemic inequality, but it can be about obstacles and “idealism vs realism” in general too. No, I am not a conspiracy theorist. I hate conspiracy theories. Don’t let conspiracy theorists and their bigotry touch my post about technicolored Minecraft people.
I’ll get off my soapbox now. I need to take a nap.
Bye.
