To anyone surprised by the entire MCU 2024 and 2025 slate being pushed back again. I really don't get how I saw it coming from a mile away when production was halted on Captain America 4 and The Thunderbolts due to the writer's strike. Disney is not going to risk these movies be mid by hiring just anybody willing to cross the picket fenced line to finish the script or edit it. And all this means is the studios are in no closer ready to give in. But I do feel like this is progress studios can't keep pushing back major movies and TV shows, and eventually they will run out of content. Keep going writers y'all got this

Marvel's really phoning it in with Wanda's story if they don't utilize the fact that Clint became Ronin for the exact same reasons that Wanda became the Scarlet Witch.
They lost the people that were closest to them so they acted out due to the trauma. At the end of the day, their stories of trauma from the events of Infinity War were incredibly similar.
I am hoping that isn't just a coincidence and that maybe it'll actually lead to something. I really hope that MCU doesn't waste the incredible opportunity this presents them with in regard to character development. Clint has his family back and has the hindsight that Wanda currently lacks. He sees the error of his ways and after seeing her brother sacrifice himself to save him and Costel in AoU, I can definitely see him being very emotionally affected by the fact that he is watching Wanda go down a similar path as him after his family got snapped.
This is a golden opportunity to actually have some earned character development from both of these characters and I really really hope that they utilize it somehow. Even if it's after the fact and Wanda has also seen the error of her ways, but she sees Clint again and Clint has a moment where he realizes what she went through and why and apologizes to her which shocks her because she has been the one apologizing to everyone else for what shes done and her grief is finally seen for what it is by someone who understands.
Like, the opportunities there they just need to take it!!!
But I won't get my hopes up

So, Iron Heart started filming in June 2022 and finished in November 2022. And yet the release is now pushed back until 2025?!
What on earth is going on with that? The time to release that show was as close to Wakanda Forever as possible. To capitalise on the character introduction.
It's like Echo constantly being pushed even though Hawkeye came out 2021. It filmed April to August 2022 and was pushed back to now release in January 2024, despite being totally complete and sitting on the 'shelf' for months.
I can't even find any information on Armor Wars anywhere anymore. It's not in the Phase 5 wiki page or Phase 6. 😭😭😭
It's so hard to get excited for new characters or shows/films when Marvel's management is such a shitshow now. We don't see or hear from characters for years. And when we do, it seems like such a rushed job with terrible writing.

I think about the fact that of all the confirmed upcoming mcu projects, the only ones with poc as leads are cap 4 with Sam as captain america, armor wars with Rhodey as the main focus, ironheart with Riri as the main character and Blade. I worry that after the marvels and deadpool 3 potentially doing "better" at the box office, Disney is gonna go back to the whole "white sells" situation and I don't want that and will be angry if that happens. Feels like the only want to prevent that is to support those projects and there's already backlash with cap 4 having a character named Sabra
It is very disappointing. Speaking of Deadpool 3, Zazie Beetz isn't returning for her role as Domino! :( I share your fear on Marvel becoming mostly White again, which is I'll have to spend my money and stream the shows that have actors of color in the leads. Since that's the only way they seem to be listening :(
Screenrant updated their article about MCU's Phase 5 and 6 list, updated on Feb. 15, 2024. Apparently Ironheart show is not confirmed either or anymore. A list of films on the list which star actors of color are:
Captain America: Brave New World - February 14, 2025
Blade - November 7, 2025
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - May 1, 2026 (However, script is penning, confirmed Jonathan Majors but don't know what's happening now)
Avengers: Secret Wars - May 7, 2027 (Same as above with Majors)
Armor Wars - Release Date TBD
Shang-Chi 2 - Release Date TBD
Among others with no release date
There were other films on the list that listed actors of color among the main cast. I don't know the amount of screen time they will have, but some actors of color who apparently are also heading upcoming titles are:
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Black) in Venom 3 - November 8, 2024
Ariana DeBose (Latina Biracial) in Kraven The Hunter - August 30, 2024
Hannah John-Kamen (Black Biracial) in Thunderbolts - May 2, 2025
This isn't counting the show or the third Spider Verse film planned.
At the end of the day, I think you're right in that all we can do is talk with our dollars. I don't know what they're planning on doing with the character Sabra among the Palestinian genocide currently going on.
In Newsweek Magazine it said:
"It's potentially offensive, because spotlighting an Israeli superhero, specifically an Israeli intelligence anti-terrorist, on this global scale, with the wide reach that Marvel has, risks further polarization," she told Newsweek. "It could be seen as Marvel and the United States supporting and aggrandizing Israel's policies."
Personally, I think having Sabra in the film isn't a bad thing but I can only see that happening better if she's the villain. After all, there are Nazi characters and government officials throughout MCU films and shows.
And:
Sabra's nationalism is not unique in Marvel comics. The 1960s introduced readers to Red Guardian—the communist Russian version of Captain America, played by David Harbour in Black Widow (2021)—while other cultural counterparts include Captain Britain, who was gifted magic powers by King Arthur's sorcerer pal Merlin. According to Schneider, Marvel could give Sabra the same treatment it gave Red Guardian, fleshing her out into a more complex character that doesn't rely on stereotypes. "Perhaps this is an opportunity for a character to experience life and love from both sides of this conflict," she said.
Allegedly (because I haven't read the comics): "Sabra went on to feature in some stories that weren't very pro-Israel, it was already weird back then."
Everything is still up in the air, it seems. Personally, I wished they would go a different route but only using good writers. I hope it won't be another Captain America: Serpent Society --> Captain America: Civil War

So I just finished Loki, and I think I know where the MCU is going. This is going to sound like a wild conspiracy theory, but if it happens, Avengers 5 and 6 will make Endgame look tiny in comparison.
Spoilers ahead for any and all Kang related developments, as well as some Spider-Man stuff.
The groundwork so far:
Loki season one ended with the reveal of He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror who stopped all the other Kang variants from existing by erasing the multiverse. He did this to prevent a war between the Kang variants that would cause all universes to explode or something. Ominous and spooky!
He dies and the multiverse happens, meaning the Kang war is going to happen, and it's going to happen soon.
Then Spider-Man no way home happened and Spidey and Dr Strange messed around in the multiverse. We'll come back to this.
Now I thought the show What If? was supposed to offer a teaser for the Kang War.
Tumblr media
For those of you who skipped it, What If? takes us on a trip through the multiverse, showing us new takes on beloved characters. These included Peggy Carter but as a super soldier, Dr Strange but as an eldritch horror, and Thor but as a frat bro.
I figured the Kang War would follow our typical MCU cast that we all know and love and then these guys swoop in and help stop the bad guys in a big climactic moment, like the "on your left" in Endgame. I don't think that's the case anymore. And it's all thanks to one small line of dialogue at the very end of Loki season 2.
At the very end of Loki season 2, the TVA is restructured to be on the lookout for variants of Kang. One of the workers said a variant was sighted near the 616 branch. That is the single line that made everything click.
For those unaware (like I was when I first heard the line, I did a bit of research before writing all this out!), the MCU used to be branch 199999 of the multiverse, but has recently been renamed to branch 616. 616 is also the branch of the main comic universe, which essentially separates the two multiverses indefinitely. But that is actually a genius move, one that lets the films build their own multiverse without needing to worry about prior lore from the comics. And What If? is only a small sampling of what that multiverse has to offer.
Tumblr media
No Way Home! I told you we'd come back to it. This one film has been the biggest project to flesh out the MCU multiverse. We all thought it was fan service, but we couldn't see the big picture yet.
The climax of the film involves the Spider-Man from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and the Spider-Man from the Amazing Spider-Man films coming into the MCU 616 universe to help MCU Spidey fight his villains. This explicitly connects these three franchises into the same multiverse! But it doesn't stop there! The end credits scene (as well as Morbius' end credits scene) connected it to Sony's Venom-verse! That's four franchises that the Kang War can pull from, but it's going to be even bigger!!
Tumblr media
There's one small throwaway line in Across the Spider-Verse that connects the Spider-Verse films to the MCU. Miguel O'Hara complains about the various things going wrong across the Spider-Verse, including "Dr Strange and that nerdy kid from Earth 199999". Earth 199999 is the old name for the MCU. Miguel is upset over the events of No Way Home.
Tumblr media
We could see some (or all) of these Spideys could show up in the Kang War. Tell me that wouldn't be way cooler than anything Endgame did!
I don't think it will stop there either! I remember one project really stood out to me when they were announcing their phase five and six plans for the MCU.
Tumblr media
The first X-Men project in the MCU, and it's a continuation of a thirty year old cartoon. Plus, they greenlit it for a second season before the first was even released. X-Men are the fourth best selling single issue comic series of all time (behind Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman), making them a huge IP. Making their first project in the MCU something as niche as this feels like a slight misstep. Unless, this project is aiming to tie the original cartoon into the multiverse, letting these versions of the X-Men fight in the Kang War. I guess we'll find out when the show debuts in a few months.
There's also one more thing that they could possibly tie in, that I don't think they will.
Tumblr media
I don't think they'll actually do it, but it would be really really funny if they did.
(Also Insomniac's Spider-Man games complicate this whole thing a lot, but I've already wrote way too much so I'll cover that in a future post if this one does well)

The mcu fandom’s fav pastime now is arguing about whether Wanda or Loki would win in a 1v1 fight, but we’re not ready to admit that they essentially have the exact same powers.
Mind control, reality manipulation, telekinesis. They’re even both ‘destined’ to sit on a multiversal throne, I mean come on guys.

I have thought...bear with me
Costel is the name of the little boy Pietro and Hawkeye saved
Costel was a little boy but in the MCU is now probably in his mid to late teens depending on whether or not he was affected by the blip.
Pietro stole a small football and gave it to his sister to give to him so he clearly knew the family personally. That means Costel likely knew Pietro before he saved his life. Its possible that Wanda and Pietro and Costel and his sister knew each other at least on a neighborly basis.
Flashforward to Wanda likely being in hiding, maybe she visits the Sokovia memorial from TFATWS that Zemo visited. While she is standing there you hear footsteps and from behind her a teenage boy comes out of hiding, wide-eyed. Wanda recognizes him from her life in Sokovia and greets him but he won't accept her kindness.
Wanda is confused but he explains that he remembers that day they lost Sokovia very clearly. He remembers Pietro dying to protect him and says if he had just stayed with his sister, Pietro would still be alive. He tells her he has gone over seeing her again over and over in his head and practiced what to say but none of it can fix what he caused so he just looks at her tearfully as a scared young boy and tells her he's sorry. Wanda, of course, is tearful as well being faced by something she buried for so long and she starts to speak but Costel looks up at her confused and asks what happened to her accent. She realizes she's still in her American accent and changes back to her thick Sokovian accent to tell him that he was just a child back then and he had no reason to apologize. He would insist but Wanda would stop him and tell him that there is no use in trying to change the past. And Costel could say, "if I could change the past, I would go back to that day over and over until I could save you both that pain."
This not only shows Wanda still thinks about Sokovia and her brother but it also plants the seed for her to possibly try and bring him back. She's tried Vision, she's tried her children, so what if her last attempt to have her family back is to try and resurrect her brother? What if she gave it some thought and used her time in hiding to try and find a way to bring him back to her? And what if it worked and she had her brother, her REAL brother, back but in doing this she caused a multiversal shift and suddenly there were mutants all over the globe whose universe collided with hers and became one. What if, in that universe, there are two mutant boys born in separate families, one named Billy Kaplan, the other Tommy Shepherd? What if bringing back part of the first family she lost is the catalyst for, not only bringing back her new family, but also for bringing the mutant's universe and Avengers' universe together? And what if, after their reunion, Pietro and Wanda hear a knock at the door from a bald man in a wheelchair that Wanda only recognizes from when she attacked the Illuminati?
Just a thought.

Given how much I love science fiction and fantasy in general, it's amazing how little I care about anything multiverse or magic related in the MCU.
I know all these things exist alongside each other in the comics, but no franchise has ever made me care about multiverse stories (unless it's been in an extremely limited and isolated capacity - like the odd Stargate Sg1 episode). To me, it just kills the stakes, and I have no attachment to other versions of the characters I know.
Adding 'magic' into what has previously been a science fiction universe is a murkier distinction because magic powers are essentially the same as superpowers or mutant powers, etc. Just different branding. But it makes me clock out.
I don't know. I know it's being pedantic. Very nitpicky. But there's something different, to me, about powers that have an attempted explanation in science, within the genre confines, like when Thor says "What your people call magic, mine call science", or mutant genes allow someone to manipulate elements, etc. and just saying Wanda and Agatha are 'witches'.
Like even Doctor Strange and the 'mystic arts' and other dimensions, I can kind of reconcile with it being a 'science we don't understand yet'. But Wanda just gives witchy woo woo. No rules, no study, no limitations (seemingly). And that is what I think breaks the immersion with an interconnected universe.
Again, I know this is pedantic and may not even make sense. It just feels different to me. And it affects how much or little I care about characters and stories.
I probably watch another Doctor Strange movie, providing it wasn't about multiverse. But I have no interest in, and don't plan to watch, the Agatha show or anything Wanda related if she reappears.
And that's largely the fault of the MCU's world-building and writing.
