Now, I've seen some people angry about Tartaglia's role in the 4.X Archon Quest, and I think that the problem is that we misunderstood the role itself. I think it is completely normal because our last real interaction with him was in his Character Quest where he is the main character. So we expected him to be a character in this one too. But he wasn't a character.
He was the MacGuffin.
Tartaglia is there as a plot device. He needs to be the "item" that the Traveler follows to unravel all the secrets around the profecy. He needs to be condemened in trial in 4.0 for two reasons: 1) to show that Furina doesn't have control over anything, thus giving us the first clues of what she really is, and 2) to give a reason for the Traveler to go to Fortress Meropide, setting the stage for the next act.
In 4.1 he needs to "disappear", so to speak. It is a way to introduce you to the final boss and give you the idea of how massive and dangerous this creature is, but also allows Arlecchino to take the stage as someone comfronting Furina's authority. All the actions of the characters are revolving around Childe even if Childe isn't even there.
When it comes to 4.2, the only reason he is there is for you to meet his master, Skirk. Once this is done, his usefullness as a MacGuffin is over, and thus he gets yeeted.
Now, I would argue that it would have been better to just leave him there so the Traveler could bring him with them, but I suppose that someone with such a out-of-the-world morality as Skirk would just deal with him that way.
But that's it. He was not a character in this Archon Quest. He was MOTIVATION.
(On the other hand, I would also argue that there are very few characters that could have acted as the McGuffin as good as he did)

A Whumpee accidentally brings home an artifact/important Macguffin of some kind. As they and Caretaker were minding their own business at their home, burglars broke into their home, bound them to chairs, and threatened and tortured them about the artifact/important Macguffin the Whumpee found.
Whumpee had no idea what they were even talking about (they legitimately don't, they thought the artifact/important Macguffin was a cool treasure or something similar they found), which didn't help their predicament at all, as the burglars tortured them, forcing Caretaker to watch and vice versa.

I just finished Eternal Afterlife (kinda, still haven't obtained all of the memories and epilogues), and can I say I loved it.
Spoilers ahead so skip down if you haven't gotten the secret ending yet.
I can proudly say I was going after "MacGuffin" since the first time I saw him as a cosmic-smoke mass in a suit. Like alright he was weird but he never seemed harmful to me, and in my head I liked to call him "daddy universe".
And my instincts just decided to kick in like motherfuckers I guess.
This guy waited 720 years for MC to see every ending and live with everyone. He literally changed the way he talks, that's how long he's been away and he felt it, he can't lie about that shit.
Not only that. He is fine with MC not remembering anything and is actually relieved she won't feel guilty about the time he waited for her.
This man committed mass genocide in two worlds, waited for more than seven centuries even though all he had to do was show MC his memories and tell her the truth, and still worried about MC seeing the bodies laying around in that other universe as he lied to her about what really happened. Then proceeded to marry her the very next day.
If this man doesn't appear on (and wins) a husband contest I'm going to throw hands.
HE'S EVEN ATTRACTIVE. AND HAS A COOL AND RATHER UNIQUE NAME. WHAT ELSE COULD YOU POSSIBLY WANT???
Plus his first words to MC- it felt so relatable.
Tumblr media
He was laying down, reading in the garden, giving zero fucks about what others thought, and I love it. Such an absolute introvert thing.
I could write a paragraph about him I swear. I should stop.
...
No I'm sorry he's such a menace and I have a sweet spot for menaces.
This one made me wheeze out loud.
Tumblr media
Sir why do you look flustered after she threatened to break your head-
Tumblr media
Yeah also men covered in the blood of their enemies after saving the life of their loved ones, anyone?
Tumblr media
The little smirk as he lies is just a treat because he's still covered in blood but he's also brushing off the centuries he waited for her.

Mad scientist Julia Hoffman must hide her notebook from vampire Barnabas Collins and Barnabas’ blood thrall, his distant cousin Carolyn. The notebook documents Barnabas’ vampirism, and he does not want it to fall into the hands of the authorities. Once he gets hold of it, he plans to kill Julia. The last time Dark Shadows devoted as much story time to attempts to hide and find an object as they…

From a conversation last week with TheDarkestHour13, wherein I muse about the Travelers’ creepy blood fountain and its misuse in Legacies:
So we know from TVD that the Travelers’ creepy blood fountain was what created the anti-magic dome around Mystic Falls (powered by all the magic from the cemetery, IIRC, because I believe Kai went there to siphon all the magic and pull the dome down). And we know that the right-wing militia (sorry, Citizens Protection Squad, or something) used the anti-magic dome to kill vampires by chaining them in their creepy van and driving into town. And that it reverted Tyler from a hybrid to a completely untriggered werewolf when he passed through (thanks to someone saving him from, IIRC, drowning, or however he died to become a vampire). We also know that it turned Alaric from an Original back into a measly human, once Jo saved him from bleeding out. See where I’m going with this?
So when Veronica and Burke(?) and the rest of the Triad thugs invaded the School in S1, she knew from being on the Parents Council or something that Alaric had the Travelers’ creepy blood fountain stashed in the basement, and she turned it on before they invaded. How did it not kill all the vampires and un-transition all the werewolves (including Hope) at the School? You know, eliminate ⅓ of the student body? Conversely, how was Kai able to siphon the magic powering the dome inside the dome back in TVD? All it seemed to do in Legacies was neutralize any supernatural powers (vamp speed, werewolf strength and healing, witches’ magic, etc). Does the creepy fountain have different settings, like a phaser? And Veronica set it to stun? (Still, even if it had settings, how irresponsible was it of Alaric to keep it around if it was capable on one of those settings of killing ⅓ of the student body upon activation!?)
And…if it could turn Alaric from an Original back into a human, does that mean that if the original Originals had come to Mystic Falls during the Travelers’ dominion, would they have all reverted to humans-at-the-point-of-death-however-Esther-killed-them, white oak be damned? (Or was there something different about how Esther turned Alaric?) And so, if Alaric had this thing in the basement, couldn’t they have used it on Hope once she turned her humanity off? And since Freya killed her with magic, stripping away the magic of vampirism would have left her dead by magic, which would also have been stripped away, leaving us with a live, full-humanity, if very unhappy, teen witch? (Granted, Alaric was in a coma at that point, but, again, Veronica clearly knew how to use it, at least partly, so their plan to distract Hope with Salvatore Idol could have been, not (just) to give Josie time to get ready, but to give Veronica time to get there and turn the thing on….)
This macguffin is like swiss cheese, and I am driving buses through those holes!

What are your favorite MacGuffins to use, if any?
Dear MacGuffin Monitor,
The Magnetically Confined Gravitational Fuzzball Network, or MacGuffin, was a hybrid of Cybertronian and Earth technology. An artificially produced micro-singularity, the MacGuffin would have revolutionized energy generation, particle research, and—unfortunately—weapons technology.
It was that last use case which attracted the attention of Silas and MECH, who stole it from the facility it was stored in. Agent Fowler requested the aid of the Autobots in getting it back. The mission was especially taxing for Ratchet, as he had originally helped develop the MacGuffin alongside Huffer and Fallback, who had both perished not long after—he was plagued throughout with flashbacks to their time together, usually at the worst possible moments. He almost broke down completely when a stray blast of gunfire sent the MacGuffin into meltdown, forcing him into a dilemma: destroy the MacGuffin and lose the last remnants of his friends, or let it unravel into a miniature black hole.
He only recovered with the aid of Jack, Miko, and Raf, who reminded him (over the radio, from the Autobot base, I hasten to add; the children had fortunately not stowed away on this mission) that even if Ratchet's friends were gone, his memories of them kept their sparks alive.
Ratchet managed to destroy the MacGuffin at just the last second, and although Silas got away, many MECH soldiers were arrested. The mission, although not completely successful, was still complete. And Ratchet reluctantly agreed with Arcee and Bumblebee that he had a new family, and a new home to protect.

Gonzo Headcanons!
Pansexual & Agender, and is perfectly fine with any pronouns
He's a descendant of a plague doctor doll (links for context)
Camilla got him his iconic chili pepper shirt as a gift for their anniversary
He and Camilla have 4 children and all of them would hatch from eggs. 3 of them are little feathered plague doctor beasties like Gonzo (one black, one grey, one white), but they act way more avian like their mom (chirping, flapping, pecking etc) . the 4th would look mostly like Gonzo, but covered in bright blue feathers and would be a total daredevil like Gonzo. Gonzo laid the 4th egg.
The black feathered one is named Houdini, the grey feathered one is named Keaton, and the white feathered one is named Earhart. The blue feathered one is named Macguffin (Guffie for short)

What is a MacGuffin?
A MacGuffin is something that pops up in a story, usually in the form of an object, person, or event, that has no importance to the narrative other than acting as a plot trigger.
An example of a MacGuffin would be the One Ring from The Lord of the Rings. It's the object that drives the plot, but has no importance in and of itself. You could swap the ring for any other object, and the plot development would stay the same.

Whumper holding Whumpee by the neck, looking straight at Caretaker, who holds the Macguffin. Whumper holds out their free hand for Caretaker to give them said Macguffin as they choke out Whumpee.
"Give it to me," Whumper demands, "or else say goodbye to your precious Whumpee."
"Don't..." Whumpee tries to choke out, "Don't do it, Caretaker..."
After a few tense seconds, Caretaker eventually gave Whumper the Macguffin. Once Whumper got what they wanted, they threw Whumpee at Caretaker, who took them in their arms.
"Thank you kindly," Whumper mocked, a grin on their face as they eyed the Macguffin.

Waiting for Aleister "MacGuffin" Shulevitz to come get me like "Come back with me to our little medieval world were we can marry and live our lives happily and in a simpler manner!!!"
Because it's either being saved by him or becoming him, as in committing mass murder several times.
