Gardens in the Circles
So, @shivunin brought up some wonderful speculation in the tags to the post about mage affinities. Which I actually have some things I'd like to add to!
#i do wonder if lack of access to plants in general for many Circle trained mages means that they may not develop plant/nature related skill
TLDR because I'm long winded and really love talking about these elements of worldbulding:
Circle mages don't actually lack access to plants. Most, especially in Orlais, Ferelden, and Rivain have frequent if not constant access to plants. Primary exposure due to ingredients and in circle gardens.
Its not just circle mages that lack affinity to plant magic. We don't see it manifest commonly in the Avvar, Chasind, Seheron (what we know of their magic), Tevinter, or Vashoth/Qun. We primarily see the manifestation in elves - more specifically the Dalish.
The worldbuilding so far seems to show there is a very real racial/genetic tie as well as a nurture/education element to what a mage can actually do.
So, long answer time. Let's start with the first point: Lack of access to plants for many Circle trained mages.
This one is addressed by point one mostly but also point two. But lets start with the access to plants a typical Circle mage has.
Outside of the variable of plant exposure prior to joining the circle, which unless their magic emerges on the younger end of the scale they've likely been exposed to plenty of plant life. But, after they enter the circles? Well, we know that mages not only regularly work with plants but multiple Circles have gardens. The two we have canonical mention of are Montsimmard and Kinloch.
There are multiple references of circles and mages having access to gardens in DAO, DAI, and the novels; such as from Vivienne that at the least Montsimmard circle had a garden, as well as reference to older female mages should have "stayed in the circle and focused on their gardening" through out the series.
Which would make sense, much like the Inquisition has some extent of an herbal garden, circles would need to grow their own plants for use in their studies, and manufacturing in alchemy, potion crafting, herbalism, and other magical practices.
We know that some mages even have a focus/specialty in botanical fields such as Ines Arancia; the author of most plant codices we read from da2 onward. You meet her in Awakening while she is out looking for northern prickle weed.
Coupling with that, the fact that in Orlais, mages have have significantly more traveling privileges and freedom than other circles we know of. A fact stated in both Masked Empire and Inquisition. We see this mentioned by Vivienne in Jaws of Hakkon, that mages do regularly go out and collect plants for alchemy or to study.
I think the only ones where that wouldn't be the case are Kirkwall, Starkhaven, and potentially the Anderfels (just due to the nature of the Anderfels). But I don't think the lack of affinity to plant magic is really exposure based.
Which brings us to the second point: Plant/nature magic doesn't manifest in cultures outside of the Circle.
We don't see those of the Avvar, Chasind, or Tevinter - except for one Tevinter character, Francesca Invidus, introduced in Desception comic - have any more affinity for plant magic than we do in the games. In fact, we only see mention of plants blooming, growing, or any manipulation under elven mages. There are exceptions; Malcolm Hawke, Francesca Invidus, the Warden when taking on the Keeper specialization, and Feynriel. It is much more common under those of the Dalish origin, or those who had a Dalish mentor.
Leading into the third point: The default of magic is racial/genetic, but exceptions can happen depending on how one is nurtured.
I do think, like most magic in Dragon Age, there seems to be a racial/genetic quality to it. Or rather more specifically how connected to the Fade/magic an individual is. Elves being the most of the known races and more inclined to nature and plant magic, vashoth being a rather unclear connection but seem to have an affinity to elemental magic, and humans being more of the general "jack-of-all-trades" sort where they have very few limitations except in the fields of certain magic that is designed by and for elves. Such as the crossroad magic, uthenera, and
But how a mage is raised, how their magical talent is nurtured can alter or redirect that. For instance, though mostly a game mechanic element, non-elven pcs can learn to be spirit warriors, knight-enchanters (a discipline developed by the Chantry based on elven practices), Keeper magic, and plant magic. Or how, Qun born mages might have an affinity for elemental magic due to their lack of formal or even any training.

can we talk about percy’s guilt and self-esteem for a second?? because imo he has an absolutely insane habit of taking the blame for soooo many things and even when he’s the cause of trouble, the lengths he goes to rectify an error are IMMENSE. the most obvious one is him literally accepting a surely fatal prophecy because he feels responsible for bianca’s death (and ofc, he cares about nico but at that time, he also felt like he owed nico) but in the show, they portray this very accurately by having percy readily try and give up his life as a way to circumnavigate athena’s lack of help which he 100% blames himself for and has also verbally acknowledged.
(not that this will hinder him from letting the gods know exactly what he thinks of them but that’s a conversation for another day.)
point is, percy is insanely loyal and he is insanely susceptible to a guilt-ridden conscience. he will hold himself accountable for the smallest of things i am NOT kidding, like he’s the kinda guy to scold himself internally for stepping on someone’s toes by mistake. and this stems from his low self-esteem even though there is loads of nuance here because percy is also very confident when the need arises but in small, more grounded interpersonal relationship moments, his view of himself is so heartbreakingly unfair. he can be admirably surefooted in front of mighty beings like gods but when it comes to his friends and other demigods, he’s constantly second guessing himself and taking blame for the smallest of inconveniences. and i’m just. so. torn up about it. because this taking guilt over unnecessary things continues on into the sequel series too because i so clearly remember him feeling guilty about calypso and i hated it because percy jackson will stand up for everyone and their mothers but he also doesn’t defend himself half as fiercely as he should.
here are some examples from JUST lightning thief about percy and his guilty schtick routine this boy istg he needs to have a higher view of himself goodbye.

DP x DC Prompt:
Summoning circles are more complicated than people give them credit for. They’re a bit like a mix between a thumb print, a name, a phone number, and a recipe; and at the same time, nothing like any of those things.
In reality, most summoning circles in spell books and ancient texts are incomplete, representing only a fraction of a particular spirit’s identity.
A complete circle will actually be a series of different summoning circles, with each concentric ring representing an aspect of the spirit’s identity and having individual requirements and/or offerings needed. Ghosts have an innate awareness of them and are able to draw and describe their requirements from any sort of inward reflection.
Ghosts will often give out incomplete circles as a means of communication and transportation. A single ring of the circle will only open the door, and each ring added makes the pull and connection to the summoner stronger. Ghosts will also sometimes use incomplete circles to mark and monitor their haunts and as a way of claiming territory.
A complete summoning circle will occasionally but inevitably change over time, as parts of the spirit’s identity change.
The circle will always be a closely guarded secret. This is because, much like giving your true name to the fae, giving out your full summoning circle will allow the summoner to not only capture you, but to command and control you.
After Danny was shown Dan’s future where he killed the world, he made Jazz memorize his complete circle and told her to use it if he ever turned evil. She thought he was being ridiculous, but learned the spell when she saw how frightened he had become of himself.
When the summoning circle of the Ghost King was added to his identity, he tried to make her memorize the new circle, only for her to flat out refuse, saying it’s not healthy for him to make these kind of contingencies. They get into a really bad fight and Danny flies off determined to find someone he can trust with his circle should he turn evil.
As he’s flying over his town he feels the slight tug on his consciousness indicating someone is trying to summon the Ghost King. He lets his awareness bleed through the summoning just enough to see that… yup it’s cultists again. At least there’s no sacrifices this time.
He’s about to shrug the summoning off like he has so many others when he suddenly sees someone fighting through the cultists. Oh! Make that several someones.
With a giddy sort of eagerness Danny watches Batman and his sidekicks cut through the crowd of religious fanatics, even taking down a couple that looked like they were using ghost-based magic. He’d always admired the Dark Knight, but seeing him fight in person is something else.
It’s as the hero is tying up the cultists and checking their injuries that a lightbulb goes off in Danny’s head, and, after a moment of steeling his determination, he lets himself be pulled through the summoning circle.
The Bats all tense up as the circle at the center of the room grows brighter, readying themselves for another fight. Danny tries to smile reassuringly as he feels his form materialize, though they likely can’t see it in the bright flash of light that accompanies it.
He frowns when he realizes the summoning had dressed him in his royal armor and cloak, the crown of fire burning above his head and ring of rage glaring from his right hand.
He tries raising his hands in an “I am not a threat,” pose, before realizing it looks exactly like the Box Ghost’s “Beware!” pose. He tucks his hands under his armpits, then awkwardly waves at the group of vigilantes.
“Hi there! Wow that was really cool- Thanks for taking care of these guys for me.”
The vigilantes once again tense up as Danny steps out of the circle towards them. Danny smiles sheepishly.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but I really need to talk to you, Batman.”
Batman steps forward, approaching Danny as he stands just outside the circle, a living shadow that looms larger than life. Still, Danny senses something soften in his gaze as he looks over the teenage Ghost King, stopping just out of reach of him. Danny gazes back at his childhood hero, hoping he’s making the right choice.
“I have a favor to ask of you.”

in all the 'trauma siblings' stuff with Clover & Kanako, I keep coming back to thinking about how Flowey engages with this
Like, here's someone who went through an at least similar ordeal of getting a human soul mixed into a monster body, leading to a lethal, traumatic injury, into a rebirth into a new body whose physical and emotional state are all way the fuck out of wack
Except Flowey was shaped a lot by having to go through the traumatic aftermath alone, and lives in the weird space of having experienced unknown years of resets but also is still mentally kind of a child
So I have to think that Flowey sees these kids and that little Asriel part of him is screaming "don't let them wind up like us", but being Flowey he also has no idea how to really comfort anyone.
Leading to sweet moments like Clover collapsing somewhere and before anyone else in their family can even pick up on something being wrong, there's already vines springing up to catch them, because of course Flower would know how to spot weakness in people after years of doing that, but now there's a productive positive use for that instinct and it's nice
But also moments like "Gee how do I cheer up Kanako about that appointment with Alphys... I know! We'll torment her! What a wonderful idea!" Because hey, a little bit of sadism always cheered him up when he was suffering
And he'd probably settle toward a crass & hyperbolic style of comforting people with hit-or-miss moments, like a sort of "Wow clover you ate SHIT just now", trying to get them laughing at the misfortune instead of crying, but obviously sometimes It's Not The Time For That or he reverts a bit back to thinking something really fucked up like "Man, that person was really rude just now, we should kill them and everyone they love" and the kids look back at Flowey like "dude what the fuck"
And everybody's different ways of processing trauma are constantly both helping and clashing with each other as these kids help each other figure this shit out because as much as the adults want to help nobody but these 3 can really come close to understanding how it feels
this has been a big ramble for an ask and not really an ask but I wanted you to have this
THIS IS SOOOO GOOD BECAUSE YOURE 100% RIGHT
flowey struggles with knowing the concept of empathy and compassion but not really. KNOWING it. i imagine he can at least remember how it feels being asriel and during the final boss but. its easy to know what it is and harder to put it into practice when you dont actually feel it
i think youre right in that he would try his best to help but not really know HOW. like it takes him a bit to realize that oh, i can see the weaknesses in people, whatdo i do with this information now that i cant use it to exploit them? what can i do to help instead of harm? what is objectively the GOOD thing to do with this information?
hes still an asshole and a bitch but he cares. hes learning to anyways. even if he missteps a lot the people around him are forgiving and willing to help him on the right path and correct him. i love…. flowey :[

Here’s my (very dumb) pitch for Mamma Mia 3, it's Harry's wedding there is just one small very very tiny issue no one can work out who Harry’s marrying and at this point, they just feel weird asking. So much like the first film, three men are running around a greek island while Sophie, Sky, Cher, Tanya, Rosie, Bill, and Sam try to work out their connection to the plot, I mean their relationship with Harry. So let us meet the potential Grooms:
First up we have Elijah Thatcher played by Taron Egerton, at first, he seems the most likely to be the groom despite the age gap since he seems very close and connected to the wedding and is really stressed out about the wedding. However, we later find out the reason he is so stressed about this wedding is that he is the stressed-out wedding planner, and let's just say Harry’s Groom is a bit of a bridezilla
Then we have Peter Beckett played by Hugh Laurie an American lawyer who is very close to Harry, he also knows a lot about the other dads and Sophie, and he also has the habit of flirting with Harry, in truth while he and Harry did have a fling back in the day, they are now simply best friends and he’s the best man. The reason he flirts with Harry is that he enjoys getting a reaction out of Harry's actual partner.
This actual partner is Nathaniel Hawthorn played by Hugh Grant a music professor at Cornell, they push each other buttons but at the end of the day, they still love each other. At the start of the film, they think he is the wedding planner since he seemed a bit too into the table setting. But he actually just enjoys getting a rise out of Elijah, who at this point is considering a career change.  Hijinks, misunderstandings, and ABBA take place before the reveal but in the end, the reveal is simple with Nathanial asking if Sophie would walk down the aisle with him, since he's kinda either step-dad 1 or dad 4 plus he knows it will mean the world to Harry, she agrees they hug and she welcomes her new dad to the family.
We end the film with their wedding it's big, it’s fun, and it goes perfectly much to the joy of Elijah's mental health, Peter gets a killer best man speech that ends in him and Nathaniel hugging it out. Just as the night is coming to an end, all seems to be going well Bill finds his boat has been stolen by none other than newlyweds. Harry yells something about being spontaneous, while Nathaniel yells about going on the honeymoon of their dreams. As they sail off into the sunset.
We close with Elijah and Bill sharing a drink and rethinking the life choices that got them here. We then find out Cher knew who the groom was the whole time and just found the whole thing very funny hence why she told no one.

This is probably the most complete as well as one of the better quality uploads of the 1.x quest "Futures Perfect" that I've seen.
The Path Companion was a partner for the WoL, someone to make and give commentary during the storyline. They were customizable like a retainer; you chose their race/gender (of the available 1.0 options), class, and personality type. They were also Ala Mhigan originally, with a (variable) relative in the Resistance.
The WoL is defended, and spoken to at the end, by their starter city archon (this is during the Circle of Knowing/Path of the Twelve era, as the Scions were formed by combining the organizations after the Calamity).
This is also the introduction of Gaius van Baelsar as an imperial enemy; going forward there were scenes that include him shooting Cid for being angry and insulting, and also talking to WoL about how Gaius disagrees with Nael van Darnus's plans and the Meteor Project. But here, he crushes the Resistance's operation and gets into a fight with the archons--that only ends when he calls in an airstrike, sending WoL into a brief Echo vision before returning home to get medical aid for their companion.

im actually pretty glad there are at leat a few people that agree with me that totks wordlbuilding/story is disappointing to insulting really
its such a let down and will never stop being a thorn in my side how much build up and potential they wasted with disregarding pretty much everything of botw just to introduce not just less compelling stuff but also kinda undercut what was already there
like im sorry but being able to glue a few sticks together isnt worth sacrificing the buildup from the previous title and quality of the story for
