Birthday Blues (Part 1) | Na Jaemin
Summary: When Jaemin thinks you’ve forgotten his birthday, you have the biggest argument you've ever had.
Genre: Boyfriend!Jaemin, angst
Word Count: 1k
Tumblr media
Jaemin was furious. It was his birthday today, and you, his girlfriend of three years, had forgotten about it.
When he woke up this morning, he could barely contain his excitement. He was expecting to see you in something red and lacey, get breakfast in bed, and have some delicious morning loving.
But to his disappointment, he woke up to you, moody, sweaty, and hurling into the bin. You were hungover from your girls’ night out the previous evening.
Soon, it was 7PM, and you still hadn’t mentioned Jaemin’s birthday.
“Could we stop by Yuta’s bar before we go home?” You asked. “They’re having a special offer. Five cocktails for five pounds! I heard they make your vomit look all rainbow-y.”
Jaemin scoffed. “That sounds just fantastic. But two nights in a row? Are you sure this drinking thing isn’t becoming a problem? Plus…” He scratched the back of his neck, awkwardly. “Isn’t there something else you’d rather be doing… especially today?”
“What’s so special about today?” you said, shaking your head. “Come on, it’s only a mile away. Do you have money for an Uber? I left my wallet at home.”
“You’re so freaking forgetful,” Jaemin snapped.
You raised your hands in surrender. “Alright, jeez! It’s just a wallet.”
“It’s not just that! What about my cat? You forgot to feed Sushi all week while I was in Morocco. She nearly starved to death! Or what about when you forgot where you parked my BMW, and I had to miss Jeno’s leaving party to search for it! And what about my bir-“
Jaemin stopped mid-sentence when he realised that you weren’t listening to him. You were busy typing away on your iPhone.
Jaemin yanked the phone out of your manicured fingers and threw it onto the floor. The screen cracked.
You gasped. Putting your smashed phone into your pocket, you turned to your boyfriend.
“Can we just… go inside?” You pointed at the bar. “I promise, everything will be-“
“Oh my god,” Jaemin said, cutting you off. “Why are you so desperate to go inside? If you really want to see your friends so much then, let’s go.”
Jaemin grabbed your arm tightly and pulled you through the door.
The inside of the bar was pitch black.
“Would you look at that?” Jaemin spat. “It’s empty. Did you forget what time you were supposed to meet up? God, why are you so dumb?”
“Jaem-“ You waved frantically at him, but he wouldn’t stop.
“You’re so disorganised… and- you’re lazy! It’s my birthday and all you’ve done is whine about your own stupid life. Why do you have to be so fucking selfish? We are done, you… you bitch!”
You and Jaemin stared at each other in stony silence. Jaemin was panting, and you were fighting back tears.
Just then, the lights flickered on.
“S-surprise,” came a bunch of unsure voices.
Jaemin turned around to see the shocked and disapproving faces of everyone he loved staring back at him.
A live band in the corner started to play ‘Happy Birthday’, but someone told them to shut up.
The room was filled with fifty of his friends, parents, cousins, colleagues… Haechan was standing in the middle of the crowd, holding a huge three-tier chocolate cake. A big banner saying Happy Birthday, Jaemin hung from the wall.
Jaemin turned to you. “You… did all this?”
Your face was wet with tears. You pushed past Jaemin and ran out of the door.
“Wait!” Jaemin shouted, but it was too late.
“Way to go, buddy,” Renjun said, slapping him a little too hard on his back. “It’s called a surprise party… ever heard of it? Y/n spent weeks organising it.”
Jaemin tugged a hand through his hair, throat dry. “I’ve really messed things up, haven’t I?”
Renjun rolled his eyes. “Welcome back to Singles Night, bud. We missed you.”
---
Jaemin ran all the way home. When he saw you in the bedroom, his heart surged. You hadn’t left!
You were facing away, standing by the open wardrobe.
“What are you doing?” Jaemin asked, frowning.
You spun around at the sound of his voice. “Packing. You said it yourself, J, we’re done.”
Jaemin ran towards you and pulled the bag from your hands. “I didn’t mean any of that! I was just… angry. I’m so sorry, Y/n.”
You shook your head, taking the bag back. “Jaemin… you called me a bitch. Do you not respect me at all? How can you expect me to stay with you after that?”
Jaemin crumpled onto the bed, tears threatening to spill. He hugged his knees tight. “I’m sorry,” he croaked.
You sat beside him on the bed, shoulders drooping.
“I’m sorry, too,” you whispered. “You deserve someone… better.”
“No!” Jaemin shook his head. “Please don’t leave me.” He leant his head against your shoulder, crying.
You sat in silence for a moment. Then you sucked in a deep breath and stood up.
“I have to,” you said. “Goodbye, Jaemin.”
You walked out of the room. A few moments later, Jaemin heard the thud of the front door.
Jaemin stood up. He looked at the picture frame on the bedside table, it was of you and him, laughing whilst sharing an ice cream.
He picked it up and threw it against the wall, screaming. The glass shattered.
He ran into the living room, head spinning. That’s when he saw it.
There was a small box on the coffee table, wrapped with a purple bow, and a message that said ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAEMIN’. He opened the box, fingers trembling.
Inside was a sleek brass ring. He picked it up and read the inscription on the ring.
“Y/n and Nana forever.”
What a fool he was.

Tumblr media
[“Can you guys just fuck already?” +“Did I just say that out loud?”]
warnings: haechan is a perv, implied blackmail, fruity nomin, throuple, oral, facefucking, exhibitionism/voyeurism
a/n: since i didn’t want this to be a copy of my last one, i added haechan in the mix. i hope that’s okay 😭
Tumblr media
“I don’t know why I agreed to this.” Jeno spoke into the palms of his hands, followed by a heavy sigh. Would he end up regretting this decision? Maybe.
“Oh come on, it’ll be fun. You won’t even know I’m here.” Haechan said with a smirk. He was awfully smug, eager to watch his two friends absolutely destroy their shared girlfriend, and ultimately cash in on the show of a lifetime.
You, Jeno, and Jaemin all gave a “bullshit” expression, eyes darting over to the boy sitting on your reading couch in the corner of the bedroom.
Neither one of you believed his jest, and judging by the laugh he tried to hold in, it only brought more truth to his mischief.
Somehow, through blackmail as you would like to call it, he found out about your combined throuple after walking in on Jeno and Jaemin unloading on your face just a week prior.
It was bound to happen, not only from the three of them rooming together (not including Renjun), but because Haechan was a perv.
You almost wished it was sweet little Renjun that stumbled upon it, because maybe then you wouldn’t be here like this.
Of course you were mortified when it happened—a cup's worth of jizz on your face right as he “walked in”, blinding you from all aspects of degeneracy. Jeno and Jaemin’s heavy groans masking the sound of the door being opened, and the only indication of a disturbance was Jeno’s sixth sense; being able to feel a fourth presence behind him. You couldn’t even open your eyes and stand up properly when you heard him yell, relying solely on Jaemin to guide you to the bathroom while Jeno remained in the room ripping Haechan apart.
No amount of “sorry’s” would have calmed down their anger, especially Jeno’s. And for your sake, Jaemin diffused the situation while you took refuge in the kitchen, binging on dry cereal to calm your nerves.
Hoping to put the horrid event behind you, all of you tried to carry on like nothing happened, with Jeno threatening once to kill Haechan if Renjun found out.
So far, so good.
But somehow the bastard made a proposition later that night: either let him watch a second time or he’ll not only tell Renjun, but the rest of his “buddies” that we didn’t even know about.
Jaemin tried to call his bluff, saying that there was no way he had other “friends” out there, and if he did, they were just as stupid as him.
Of course, he had proof. With a list of contacts just waiting to be informed.
Discussing such a topic was not how Jeno and Jaemin wanted to spend their night: dealing with an awful case of post-nut dysphoria.
And such a “deal” almost made the three of you wonder if there was a recording hidden behind his scheme.
Now here you were, having already tried to drag out the inevitable for a week now. But you honestly wanted this over with; whatever to secure your modesty that should’ve been kept within the comfort of your two partners.
“You know I could still kill you right?”
Jeno spat passed his palms as he sat slouched on the edge of the bed. The only noble thing you could provide was a pat and rub of his back, occasionally scratching across his spine because you knew deep down that he loved it.
Surprisingly, it helped him ease up, but you still had Jaemin on your other side, trying his hardest to be the pacifist.
You looked over to the left at his incredulous expression, using your other hand to rub along his thigh for assurance. He met your eyes, slightly smiling as if he wasn’t the tiniest bit annoyed.
“Let’s just do this. I’m sure it’ll relieve some stress once we get started.” Jaemin huffed out, leaning forward to look at Jeno to formally initiate the evening.
“Wait before we start, give us your phone!”
“Good idea…fucking christ.”
Somehow Jaemin chuckled at Jeno’s pained exclamation, only adding more fuel to the fire.
You thanked your last minute effort to keep this in the walls of this room only, successfully confiscating his means of extortion.
Haechan seemed to get comfortable after you placed it far away on the nightstand. And the three of you had no choice but to carry on.
As soon as you sat back down on the bed in between them, they got to work on your flimsy pajama shirt, raising it above your head to expose your chest.
Because of the additional body in the room, you almost covered your breasts out of instinct, but none of it mattered once Jaemin’s kisses lingered in that direction.
Meanwhile, Jeno got to the usual work of devouring your lips and grasping your cheek, sucking just as passionately as Jaemin did to your nipples.
Your hands matched the same energy, inching down towards their respective packages, where your eyes blew wide through Jeno’s kisses at the fact that they weren’t as flaccid as you thought they would be.
“What’s that look for sweetheart?”
Haechan spoke quietly, but with just as much weight. You didn’t dare look in his direction, nor acknowledge his question.
But Jeno helped speak your mind, way better than you would have been able to.
“Shut the fuck up Haechan…” Jeno’s words went from biting, to becoming lost in translation as he held in a groan. You began to stroke both of them through their basketball shorts, giving the perfect amount of friction against the nylon material.
You multi-tasked well, being able to keep a steady pace considering Jaemin swirled his tongue so skillfully across your raised nipples. Even tugging harder than he normally would, most likely to distract you from the sore thumb sitting in the corner.
But you spoke too soon, as your peacemaker boyfriend left his hand in place of his warm tongue to get a taste of both of you.
There was no hesitation, not even from Jeno as all three of you conjoined your tongues as best as you could—licking, sucking, smacking, all of the above to overpower the sounds of Haechan working to undo his zipper.
You never got tired of their unique flavors, whether it was from their mouths or their cocks. And to be able to claim them as yours, brought so much fun into your life; an entire glass full of excitement and scorching hot thrills.
You felt Jeno’s unoccupied hand, all the way down to the contours of his palm lines as he cupped your clothed core. His prominent middle finger poked along your warm slit, tickling up your spine and back down into your pelvis like a surge of electricity.
“Are you gonna let me taste you? Hmm?” Jeno broke the mile long kiss of a lifetime, to whisper against your now-swollen lips. You seemed to have fallen drunk to their charisma, but with the help of Jaemin, he brought you back down to a measly level of sobriety with a harsh squish of your cheeks to elicit a response.
“Yes…please, I love when you eat my pussy….”
“Good girl…” Jaemin cooed against your neck before forming a line with his saliva, from your racing pulse all the way up the back of your ear. You shuddered from the warmth, to which he smiled for the first time.
The weight of the bed felt lighter for a split second, as Jeno positioned himself in between your thighs. Jaemin fell back with you against the mattress right as you missed the death glare Jeno gave Haechan as they locked eyes.
Of course, the perv had already freed his dick from his boxers, sitting in the most splayed out position on the small cushion.
Jeno told himself he would try his best not to acknowledge his roommate's presence, but he just thought of the most wonderful idea…
His lean frame still blocked most of Haechan’s view as he pulled down your velvet pajama shorts in a flash, but one way or another, Jeno was going to make sure Haechan got to hear just how good he made you feel.
You yelped from the cold air that immediately hit your core, but the sudden change in temperature didn’t last long. He pried your legs far apart, inhaling deeply as he licked a stripe from the crevice of your ass all the way to your pulsing clit.
Jaemin swallowed the sigh of relief that bloomed from your heavenly chords, and continued to eat up every whimper as Jeno began to devour you.
Haechan’s mouth hung open, completely overwhelmed by the sound of Jeno slurping up your juices. He just knew you tasted as good as you looked.
Deep down, he envied Jeno’s animalistic desire and the rewards that came with it. Why couldn’t it have been him that got to grip the soft flesh of your thighs, lick in between your folds with however much desperation he wanted.
Nonetheless, Haechan stroked his leaking cock, even faster now that he saw Jaemin doing the same as he continued to kiss you.
But he managed to dart his eyes everywhere, from Jaemin’s hard length, to your wiggling body, and from what he could see of your dripping pussy.
“You taste so good…so perfect.”
Jeno’s words were muffled at best, but that was okay, he knew Haechan heard every word.
“Did you hear that baby? You taste amazing, like always…”
Jaemin spoke in between his sloppy kisses, making sure you soaked in all of the praise before it was his turn to claim you. And eventually, he kept his eyes locked onto Jeno, the two of them sharing a telepathic high-five at their own game of bragging. You unknowingly backed up their tactics as you raked your fingers through Jeno’s hair, ushering him further in between your thighs.
You gave what Jaemin liked to call, a “cutesy nod” as you caught your breath, something you always did when the pleasure became too much. But who could blame you, when the high built up like a drug—like your very own narcotic that you could seize whenever you wanted.
“I deserve a taste too…” Jaemin called for the switch, despite your orgasm approaching. You whined from the emptiness as Jeno rose up, slapping your thigh before he left you. The sting managed to surge all the way to your clit, causing your exposed body to jerk in front of Haechan.
Finally, he was able to see all of you. Even if it was for a few blinks, you were everything he fantasized about and more.
Absolute perfection—completely drenched, chest glistening with a thin sheet of sweat.
But even Haechan was getting impatient, he was still waiting on you to be fucked. And if it didn’t happen soon, his own impending orgasm would be ruined.
He paused on his own pleasure, choosing to catch his breath while his two roommates undressed and got in their respective positions. Jeno remained to the left of you on the bed, giving Haechan a clear view of when he would fill your mouth from the side. Although Jeno towered over you, he still offered some assistance as you propped yourself up on your elbows. One hand rested behind you to support your head and neck, and the other gripped his rock-hard length, just waiting to slip past your lips.
Jaemin was down below like you expected, peckering small kisses along the inside of your thighs. You could feel his smile as he gave another kiss, this time on your clit. It felt just like Jaemin; even if you were blinded, you would immediately be able to tell it was him: being the mascot for all of the edgers and teasers, while Jeno reigned over the savages and deviants with pride.
And you were always in the middle of it, ready and willing to be sucked into the wild ride.
The night's events started up again, with Haechan being able to see a whole lot more now. He watched as you welcomed Jeno into your mouth, letting him hit the back of your throat like an absolute doll.
You pushed through the edging that Jaemin unleashed upon you, bobbing your head up and down on Jeno’s length instantly.
His abs tensed with every connection of your nose to his groin, causing Haechan to forge a death grip around his cock as he eye’s trailed up to Jeno’s furrowed brow from your luscious enthusiasm.
Despite being obstructed from the amount of dick in your mouth, you let a series of whimpers slip past Jeno’s accompaniment while Jaemin sucked along your folds like candy.
It was your duty to let him know he was doing so well, and how you grinded against his mouth told him so.
His tongue formed so many different shapes as he indulged; flattening like a board when he made contact with your wet lips, and perking up to tap along your sensitive nub to feel it twitch.
“Don’t fucking stop. Keep taking me all the way in…” Jeno’s demands from up above were a sign that you were losing focus. Your release was so close, and too powerful to let go of.
And if Jaemin backed off of you like he was known to do, you could honestly cry.
“I can tell you’re close love. Try and beg for me.” Jaemin cooed against your wet mound, offering a challenge that would make or break your orgasm.
Jaemin commanded one thing, while Jeno commanded another: either let up and beg, or risk a brutal reprimand if you didn’t keep your mouth where it belonged.
You were ready to make your final decision when—
“Can you guys just fuck already?”
“Fuck…did I just say that out loud?”
The nuisance that you almost forgot about, made his presence known again.
Although it was a whisper, it was heard clearly, being enough to make you whine in disappointment from yet another denied orgasm as Jaemin backed away from your core. Your mouth left Jeno, much to his dismay as he left out a pained groan. All you could do was fall backwards on the bed, fighting back the urge to scream.
“You better be glad I’m too far gone to do anything right now.” Jeno spat as he raked his hands through his locks that were beginning to stick to his forehead, ultimately searching for a “happy place” in the process.
“Unreal…”
You didn’t let Jaemin finish the rest of his possible rant, instead choosing to voice your distress.
“Please! I was so close!”
You screamed into the palms of your hands, fanning your butterflied legs back and forth to take your mind off your aching pussy.
Jeno and Jaemin hated to admit it, but your desperation was hot. Their pervert roommate indirectly attributed to your edging, and seeing you become a crumbled mess on the sheets only fueled their sadistic tendencies even more. Though, they would rather burn in hell before ever crediting the dead weight in the corner.
All three boys formed a look of intrigue, with Jaemin initiating your well-deserved ending with a simple nod and cheeky grin.
With your head still in your hands, and a moment of silence, it was too late for you to catch their plan. And before you knew it, Jaemin stood in front of your sprawled figure, lifting one leg on his shoulder as he pistoned inside you.
You didn’t expect it at all. In fact, you thought the night was over. But here you were, raising your upper body to watch Jaemin stuff you to the hilt. Unbelievable.
“Fuck!!” Your cries of pleasure matched your reaction; with all of this liberation being long overdue.
Jaemin’s own sigh of relief looped through your brain, creating your very own broken record from his satisfaction.
For the first time, you decided to let your eyes drift past your hard working boyfriend and over to the boy in the corner.
He was in heaven.
Disheveled hair from countless times of sweeping his bangs out of his face to get a proper view. Bottom lip puffed red from incessant chewing. And skin flushed golden from the speed at which he stroked his cock.
Your witness to his own undoing caused a shift within you, and you felt so fucked up from not wanting to look away.
“You’re enjoying this aren’t you?”
Jaemin teased as if he wasn’t pounding you into oblivion, but you felt too flustered to admit it. Especially now that Jeno was going to prevent any flattering remarks with a simple, yet effective facefuck.
He had always been the jealous type after all.
Soon after Jaemin entered you, Jeno did a makeshift 69 position, choosing to arch his upper body as high as it would go. His clenched fists rested on both sides of your body, relying solely on familiarity to direct his length inside your mouth.
To him, this was the best way to dissolve the anger that manifested over the course of a week.
You tried your best to prepare your throat, but the pressure from this angle caused you to heave around him. Jeno could care less if you couldn’t take it like this, practice makes perfect.
He wasted no time, practically laying into your face with no intention of going easy.
“Look who’s enjoying it now?”
Jeno had reached borderline-feral, and he had every right to back up his degrading with how well he used your throat.
Not only were your ears ringing, but your entire neck felt like it was burning, and it didn’t help that the echoes of skin slapping had magnified. At this rate of filth, you weren’t going to last. And Jaemin could feel you getting closer with every contraction around his cock, but he reassured that he would be right there with you soon,
“So happy I get to fill this pussy…”
Only a few more shaky breaths remained as Jaemin emptied everything he had to offer inside your walls, forming a white ring of your combined juices along his shaft with every thrust.
The entire atmosphere felt light as you attempted to voice your orgasm through the cock stabbing at the back of your throat, but all you could do was reach up and grip Jeno’s wrists for support as the familiar band snapped along every inch of your body. You gripped his wrists even tighter, digging your nails into the veins that decorated his arms.
Jeno intermixed his shaming in between his groans effortlessly, reminding you that he wasn’t going anywhere.
“Nope. I’m staying right here. Right where I…belong.”
His last word signaled the explosion, forcing so much of his cum that it bubbled past your abused hole in thickened spurts.
You massed together the last remaining strength you could to smack Jeno’s arms as you floated away into near unconsciousness. Fortunately for you, he backed out just as quickly as he entered, unleashing a series of smacks to your cheeks to bring you back down to earth.
You didn’t even notice or feel that his cum had splashed out onto your eyes once he gave you the freedom to breathe. Regardless of the déjà vu, this was the most euphoric you had ever felt in a while, and you knew they felt the same too.
Jaemin had just experienced the effects of the comedown as Jeno laid next to you, and he would have remained inside you for a little while longer had it not been for his mental reminder of his roommate.
Because of your intuition, you knew Haechan probably looked completely stunned after his own release. You couldn’t see anything with the cum painted on your face, but you could hear those unfamiliar breaths coming from him in the corner.
But now that you all followed through with the deal, it was time for a well-deserved aftercare session without him. And if he had to leave the house entirely for the sake of some privacy, so be it.
Jeno must’ve read your mind, as you heard him reach over for Haechan’s phone on the nightstand.
“Alright, time to go. And we mean go go.”
You let the two of them continue with their bickering as Jaemin leaned over to pick you up within his broad fame while still inside you.
“Here, let me help you…and then how about a movie after?”
His endearing tone soothed you beyond comprehension, and you clung onto him like a koala as he began walking, presumably towards the drawer to grab one of his t-shirts for you to wear after being cleaned up.
You nodded before turning your direction to the sound of Jeno escorting Haechan out, followed by a loud crash.
“What the fuck dude?!”
You heard Haechan shout, followed by running steps towards his phone that had been chucked down the hall.
The last thing to end the night was the loud slam of the bedroom door and Jeno’s dark humor,
“If you see me on the news later, it’s because I’m wanted for murder.”

𝐍𝐂𝐓 𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐌 + 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐒
warnings: none!! that i can think of. good luck for everyone doing exams this week!! <3
Tumblr media
mark ; honestly, he's the type to end up doing whatever you have to do for you. he doesn't like you seeing doing everything on your own and he wants to help you whenever and wherever he can, so he'd sit next to you, watching you write down your notes and complete study guides before asking you if you want him to do anything. and if you say yes, he just ends up doing everything. he'd take your computer and end up doing all your homework for you, completing every problem and paper for you to look over and turn in.
renjun ; very much the type to sit with you and actually try to help. and succeeds. renjun's the type to sit with you and read out flashcards for you, leaning in to give a kiss every time you get one right. he's the type to talk you through a math problem and ruffle your hair lovingly when you get one right without his help. he's the type to run out and get you coffee and a sweet treat from the nearest cafe. truly the best boyfriend <3
jeno ; only lets you get any work done if you're doing it in his arms. okay, so you need to study, who said you couldn't do that while cuddling? he'd have his arms wrapped around your middle, pulling you flush against his chest while you sit between his legs, notebooks and computer laid out in front of you. definitely the type to look over your shoulder and ask genuine questions about what you're doing and studying, humming in acknowledgment to your answers. and he doesn't know it, but the questions help you memorize the information because you have to explain it thoroughly to another person. truly the best study buddy 10/10 <3
donghyuck ; very much a severe distraction. and it's definitely on purpose. he's the type to lay all over you, his hands on your thighs, shoulders, anything he can reach, trying to pull you away from your work. "c'mon, babe, you've been studying for hours. jus' come cuddle for a few minutes. i'll order some takeout and we can watch a movie, huh? doesn't that sound nice? and then you can come back with a clear head." and, honestly, his voice is just so sweet and deep and reassuring that you can't help but agree, letting him wrap you up in his arms and carry you to bed <3
jaemin ; sweetest boy in the world just wants to take care of you, but he knows you need to do this and actually absorb the information, so he resigns to just sitting next to you and does his own work that he needs to get done <3 however, if you ever ask for help or need him to get something, he is on it immediately. he just absolutely loves taking care of you :( he'll go get you snacks from the convenience store down the street to surprise you when you're finished, he'll do flashcards with you, giving you a sweet kiss every time you get one right :( and he looks so proud when you do, his eyes all soft like he's thinking that's my brainy baby.
chenle ; really does not seem like the type to actively help you. rather, he'll just sit in the same room as you and play games on his phone while you work. lele really seems like the type to let you get your work done without intervening because he doesn't want to come off as annoying or trying to distract you. but he will get a little worried if you've been working non-stop for a few hours :( he's the type to bring you some fruit and water and pet your hair, leaning over your shoulder to look at your notes. "you're doing a great job, honey. i'm proud of you." but he can't go without teasing you a little bit, so he presses a sloppy kiss to your cheek, giggling when you groan and go to wipe it off.
jisung ; poor boy tries his best. seems like the type to really try his best to help you through your studies and make sure you get the best grade possible, but he ends up distracting you more than anything else. the type to keep offering for you to take breaks and get something to eat or take a bath so you can mentally recharge, but he doesn't realize that's he asking to do these things every 10 minutes. eventually he'd just sit next to you keep his hand on your thigh so you know he's there to help whenever you need it.

“Isn’t it always the dragon that the princess needs to be rescued from in the fairytales?” You teased, bumping his shoulder with yours.
“Well maybe in this one, the dragon’s the hero—” Jisung wrapped his arms around your waist, picking you up and spinning you around. “—and rescues the princess from the crazed madman.”
Tumblr media
“Do you like Jisung?”
Renjun’s deadpan question in the silence of the library nearly made you do a spit take all over your laptop.
After choking through the sip of your pink Gorgonade you’d just taken, you set the bottle down and looked at your human friend with wide eyes. “Excuse me?”
“Park Jisung. Our good dragon buddy. Do you like him?” Renjun repeated with an inquisitive tilt of his head.
“Yeah, sure, he’s cool.” You kept your voice as level as possible, returning your fingers to your keyboard.
“You know what I meant.”
“And clearly, I’m not answering,” you retorted. “Now can we get our project done?”
You and Renjun were both Magical Creatures Studies majors at your college and had met up at the library this particular afternoon to work on a project together. The two of you also had lots of mutual friends, including the aforementioned Park Jisung. And sure, maybe you did have a little bit of a crush on the dragon, but there was no way you were just going to start yammering on about it in the middle of the library after being asked so abruptly.
Your friend narrowed his eyes at you, but ultimately relented. “Fine. But this isn’t over.”
“Of course it’s not,” you sighed.
Tumblr media
Finally done with your PowerPoint slides later that evening, you sent a quick text before shutting your laptop. Renjun flopped back in his seat with a groan.
“Thank fuck, my eyeballs are burning.” He rubbed at his eyes with the heels of his palms.
“Have you tried out those enchanted blue light glasses that fairies use?” You suggested, resting your cheek in your palm to watch your friend sympathetically. Fairies’ eyes were more sensitive to electronic screens than humans or other magical beings, so they had to wear special enchanted versions of the blue light lenses that some humans wore for eyestrain. Renjun was a human, but if the screens were hurting his eyes this bad, it was worth a shot.
“I would except they’re so goddamn expensive, and Chenle won’t let me touch his even to try before I buy.”
“What about that other fairy that Mark and Donghyuck know? You’ve met him before at a study session, right?”
“Who— oh, right, uh… Jungwoo. Maybe… but I really don’t want to be asking a fairy that I don’t know for a favor, even something so small. I barely ask the one that I do know for anything, and when I do, I always regret it.”
You snickered. “That’s fair. Seems like you’re just going to suffer for the rest of your life then, Renjun.”
“Oh, woe is me,” he sighed dramatically, taking his hands off his eyes to start packing up his stuff.
“You know who I bet could help you with your whole eye problem?”
“Who?”
You shouldered your backpack, looking your friend in the eye very seriously. “The aliens, obviously.”
“Hey, you know what! They probably could!” Renjun huffed indignantly, grabbing his bag to follow you out of the library.
You were laughing as he kept ranting at you.
“Listen, you guys shit on me way too much for this. And aliens probably could help me with my eye problems if they ever came to Earth, because then they’d have very advanced technology and could very well have the engineering capabilities to make me a screen or a pair of glasses—”
“Or a new pair of bionic eyeballs.” You offered up.
“Exactly!” He threw his hands up as you spotted a familiar figure waiting at the bottom of the library stairs.
Park Jisung was standing there, tapping his hands against his thighs as he looked around awkwardly. You could see the glint of gold chains and pendants around his neck, and even more gold adorning his ears, wrists, and fingers. Dragons were a lot like magpies, you always thought to yourself, they liked shiny things. If magpies could breathe fire, of course.
You were nearly out of breath laughing as you slowed to a stop next to Jisung. Renjun was red-faced, still huffing and puffing.
Jisung’s slit pupils flicked back and forth between the two of you, bewildered, “What—?”
“I just can’t believe you literally breathe fire and have wings,” Renjun jabbed a finger against Jisung’s chest. “And yet it’s sooo crazy and funny and weird that I think that there could be aliens out there in the grand unknown infinite expanse of the universe that we’re in.”
Your dragon friend rubbed a hand over the spot that Renjun had poked, looking personally wounded. He turned to you for an explanation. “What happened this time?”
“Don’t—” You got cut off by another round of laughs. “Don’t worry about it, Ji.”
The human was starting to calm down, and seemed to have finally processed that Jisung had apparently miraculously been waiting outside the library when you two walked out. After all, the dragon didn’t have a backpack, laptop, or seemingly any school supplies on him. “Wait, what are you doing here, Jisung?”
“Oh, I was just waiting for Y/N.”
“Well, we’ll see you tomorrow, Renjun.” You waved goodbye to your human friend before he could say anything else, grabbing Jisung’s arm and pulling him off in the opposite direction.
Jisung spoke up a few seconds later. “Uh, Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Boba’s the other way.”
“Right. Sorry.” You made a face, awkwardly letting him change course and lead the way. “I was just trying to get out of there.”
“Why?”
“Oh, you know, Renjun was going on another one of his alien rants,” you fibbed a little, biting on the inside of your cheek.
Jisung snorted, and you watched a small puff of smoke shoot out of his nose, curling up into the air before entirely dissipating. “Thanks. How’d he get going this time?”
“Blue light glasses.”
His brow furrowed, the corner of his lip pulled up, and his nose wrinkled as he seemed to be trying to figure out how the jump was made from blue light glasses to aliens. Several of his sharp fangs were visible before his mouth relaxed again. “How—”
“You know it’s better not to ask with him.”
He sighed. “You’re right. I’m just glad we got out of there unscathed. Or at least I did. How about you? Are you in one piece still?”
Then Jisung’s two big, warm hands were on you, jokingly inspecting your hands, your arms, your neck, and your face for any harm done. You giggled, letting him turn over your arms and hold your hands and run his thumbs over your cheeks until he seemed satisfied, finishing it off with a pat to the top of your head.
“Yeah, I think I’m all here.” You absolutely knew that you were looking up at him with heart eyes. “Thanks for coming as quick as you did, any longer and I don’t think I would’ve made it this time.”
You were referring to the quick few minutes that had passed between you texting him that you were done with your project and when you actually laid eyes on him outside the library. It couldn’t have been more than five minutes, and it wasn’t like he had come from anywhere on campus: today was Saturday.
“Of course, I’ll always be around to rescue you from Renjun’s rants, you damsel in distress.”
You couldn’t help the cackling laughter that poured from your mouth, holding on against his supernaturally strong arms as he spun you once, twice, three times for good measure. Once you were back on two feet again, you had to clutch onto his upper arm to steady yourself as you regained your bearings. When you were sure you could walk in a straight line, you resumed your journey down the sidewalk together.
“And then the princess and the dragon fall in love and live happily ever after instead?” The words were out of your mouth before you could process the implications of them.
The dragon’s midnight blue eyes blinked at you a couple of times, and you opened your mouth to start the fastest backpedaling of your life, but then he just slung a casual arm around your shoulders.
“Yeah, something like that.” He shrugged. “Why not? I think that’s a pretty great ending. Almost as good as the dragon eating the crazed madman, which is what I was thinking.”
“Could do both,” you suggested, eyes glued to your feet.
Jisung laughed, and you looked up at him to make sure you caught his bright smile as he did. “I like that even better. Both.”
Tumblr media
At Jasmine & Pearls, you happily accepted your drinks from Shotaro, the siren working behind the counter, before taking them to go. There was a small waterfront park just around the corner, and fall was starting to descend, meaning that it wouldn’t be too hot to just sit out there. You two walked a couple minutes down the trails away from the noisier playground to a secluded area, and found a nice soft patch of clover, wildflowers, and grasses to sit down on. Taking a sip of your boba and tilting your head back, you relished in the feeling of the warmth of the sun’s rays on your face. This was just a perfect Saturday. You had finished up your project, it was beautiful weather, and now you’re hanging out with Jisung.
“Hey, Jisung?” You pulled your head back up to look at him.
“Hm?” He raised his eyebrows, lifting his straw to his lips.
“How did you get to campus so fast?”
The dragon coughed on his drink for a second, and you were momentarily afraid of him actually choking on a tapioca pearl, but he thankfully pulled through. He scratched at the back of his neck, looking down at his drink as he mumbled something so quiet that you couldn’t make out a single word of it.
“What?”
“I was at the bakery,” he admitted, enunciating much clearer this time.
You immediately knew which one he was talking about. Half Moon Bakery, where your werewolf friend Jeno worked. It was just around the block from campus, not even a two-minute walk.
“Oh, were you and Chenle bothering Jeno at work?” That was one of Chenle’s favorite pastimes: causing mischief and having Jisung tag along. Not that Jisung didn’t often participate too, but it was typically the fairy’s idea.
“No, just me. I was… I was waiting for you to finish up at the library.”
A happiness swelled up in your chest, and your fingers itched to do something with all the extra energy suddenly coursing through your veins. So you started plucking some of the clover and flowers in front of you.
“Well I’m glad you did, Ji,” you smiled softly at him. “After all, it made your dashing rescue a lot easier.”
Jisung just kept gazing at you for a few more seconds before he suddenly looked down, picking up his boba and sucking down half of it in one go. You swore his ears were pink as he went to ask you, “So uhm, what was the project that you and Renjun were working on?”
“Well it’s for our Special Topics in Magical Creatures Studies class. This semester Dr. Kwon is teaching it, so of course you know what it’s about.”
He stared blankly at you, and you suddenly remembered that not everybody you know is a Magical Creatures Studies major like you and Renjun.
“Oh, sorry. Well, Dr. Kwon was the first human to have an interspecies marriage legally—”
This time a dribble of milk tea came out of the side of Jisung’s mouth as he coughed on it, and you unzipped the front pocket of your bookbag to grab a couple napkins you had stashed in there at the shop. He took them from you gratefully, wiping at his mouth.
“Sprung a leak, Ji?” You asked with an eyebrow raise. “You alright?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. Go ahead, sorry.”
“Anyway, Dr. Kwon technically had the first marriage certificate for an interspecies marriage between a human and magical being that listed each as such. Obviously, there’s been a long history of romantic relationships between species as long as everyone’s existed, and as long as people have been getting married. It’s just that within in the modern history of our current society and laws, Dr. Kwon was the first that we know of. There were definitely couples that got married before her but had to falsify their species on the certificate at the time, unfortunately. And the fact that Dr. Kwon is still you know, alive, and plenty well enough to be teaching a class on this stuff… it’s really humbling. I’m honored to learn from her but it’s also a little harrowing that it hasn’t even been one lifetime yet, you know?”
“So the class is about…” Jisung prompted you again.
“Right, it’s about specifically the history of interspecies marriage. Both between different kinds of magical creatures and between magical creatures and humans. Every time it’s Dr. Kwon’s turn to teach Special Topics, this is what she teaches.”
“And, what is her spouse?”
“Siren. Mrs. Kwon will come in and guest lecture sometimes, too.”
“So… your project?”
“Just a five-minute presentation on a topic of our choice that relates to the unit we just did. She gave a list of topics, or we could come up with our own and get it approved. Renjun and I chose the role that religion plays in interspecies marriage. Because different creatures have different belief systems, gods and goddesses, and marriage rituals in their faith. Like dragons, for example.”
“Huh?!” He squeaked. Thankfully, he was out of boba tea, and therefore didn’t do a spit take all over you or something.
“Many dragons—I’m not saying you in particular, just historically—have worshipped the Sun and fire. Their marriage rituals often involved making offerings to the Sun by burning said offerings on a pyre. Now imagine a dragon and a siren want to get married. Sirens that usually not only have their weddings underwater for one, but believe that burning wedding offerings instead of throwing them into the water will offend the Sea. It’s not impossible, it’s just fascinating to witness the compromise, especially as it gets more common with integration. And I find it beautiful, every single time.”
Jisung rested his elbow on his knee, then his cheek in his head, mindlessly running his fingertips over the clover. “Yeah? And what’s the divorce rate like for interspecies marriage?”
“Better than intraspecies, actually.”
“Really?”
“Uh-huh.” You added in another flower to your weaving. “Fifty percent intraspecies, fifteen to twenty percent interspecies depending on the study you’re citing. The numbers on interspecies are obviously newer, and a bit harder to measure due to varying lifespans, but those are the ones that we work with in the field.”
“Interesting.”
“You want to know my theory?”
“Sure.”
“This one’s not peer-reviewed or anything, so don’t tell the other MCS majors, okay?”
“My lips are sealed,” he promised.
“Now, I’ve never been married, but… I think that if you’re too focused on what makes you the same, you’ll completely miss your differences and only realize them too late when those differences are eventually driving you apart. But if you start out already with these glaringly obviously differences and then find what makes you similar in addition to the differences—not in spite of them—then you get a clearer picture of who you’re with.”
You’d been so focused on your little task that you hadn’t looked up at Jisung a single time as you talked, but now you did, wondering why he was so quiet. He had gone still, staring at you, mouth parted, head tilted.
“What?” You looked around anxiously. “Did that not make sense? I thought that made sense?”
He shook his head. “No, no, that made sense. You just… gave me a lot to think about.”
“Careful, don’t hurt yourself with all that thinking,” you giggled, getting up onto your knees.
“Hey!”
“Shh, I’m kidding,” you reassured him, taking a couple kneeling steps closer to him and holding the clover and flower wreath you’d been weaving up towards his head.
“And when did you make that?”
“While you were staring at the ground. Now hold still.”
You gently set it down on his head, scooting it around and readjusting until you were content that it wasn’t going to fall off too easily. Sitting back on your feet, you admired your work. If it weren’t for his vertical slit pupils focused entirely on you as he gazed up at you, Jisung would’ve looked like a beautiful fairy prince. Enchanting, a clover and flower crown nestled atop his hair, faintly rosy cheeks, skin seeming to glow in the dappled light from the late afternoon sun shining in through the trees.
“There you go,” you murmured, realizing how close you were to him as you caught a familiar smoky smell like a campfire.
“Can you show me how to do that?” He asked, his eyes shining.
You couldn’t help but chuckle at his enthusiasm, plopping back down onto your bottom. Well, there goes all that tension dissolved.
“Sure, Jisung. We’re going to start with three clovers and a flower. Whatever flowers you can find around here should be good.”
And so you guided the dragon through the steps of weaving a clover crown of his own. You yourself had learned this from Jaemin the first time you’d ever hung out with the dryad without Renjun around. Renjun had been the one to introduce you to all of his friends, Jisung included. You’d met Renjun in your Intro to Magical Creatures Studies class on your very first day of college two years ago, and your life had never been the same since. Your own hometown was mostly human, in fact there was exactly one family of basilisks there and that was it. That’s why you chose the major you did, to expand your world. And man, it had been expanded since.
Jaemin had invited you out to the park with him that particular day to “exercise Jeno” in the dryad’s words, which meant sitting in the grass and throwing a ball for Jeno to catch— with his hand. Except the ball was enchanted to change direction and run away from Jeno for a certain amount of time, then he’d finally get it, and toss it back to you or Jaemin to throw again. At the time, it felt wrong to be pretty much playing fetch with a werewolf—derogatory, even—so you had asked Jeno about how he felt about it after. He explained that the ball was invented by werewolves, for werewolves. Since werewolves don’t hunt their prey for sustenance anymore, they tend to have a lot of extra energy. Most days he would go to the gym or go on a run or bike ride to get it out, but today was such a nice day that he wanted to go out with his friends instead. While some werewolves didn’t like comparisons to dogs (such as Jaemin’s offer to “exercise Jeno”), Jeno didn’t mind them usually, as long as it was from friends, and truly in good fun.
It was on that park trip, while sitting in the clover with Jaemin, that the dryad had shown you how to weave a clover crown by hand. Even now, every time you saw a patch of clover, you thought about Jaemin and Jeno and that day at the park, and how to weave clover crowns.
“How are you friends with two dryads and you don’t know how to weave clover crowns?” You asked with mock disappointment as Jisung was about a third of the way through his.
“Do you honestly think they’re going to be jumping to teach me their secrets? Probably too afraid I’d set the whole patch of clover on fire,” Jisung grumbled, adding another flower to the crown as he continued his weaving.
You frowned, gently stroking the back of his head as you watched over his technique. “You know Jaemin and Donghyuck don’t think of you like that.”
He scoffed, “Yeah, they think of me like Chenle’s pet.”
“Hey!” You flicked his ear, earning a hiss. He rubbed his ear with one hand, pouting at you.
“They are your friends,” you said sternly. “I think you might realize that if you eased up on your little hermit dragon schtick.”
“Dragons are solitary creatures. Didn’t you learn that in Intro to MCS?”
“I’ll believe that you’re solitary as soon as you and Chenle detach from where you’re currently fused at the hip.”
“He’s not here now!”
“To my knowledge. He could be hiding in a trashcan or something, I don’t know.”
Jisung rolled his eyes. “His Highness would never hide in a trashcan.”
“Point taken,” you snickered.
“Well…” The dragon held up his finished clover crown for you to see. “What do you think?”
It was clearly his first attempt at one, crooked, with holes in several places, and a couple of the blue flowers he’d chosen falling out as he set it in your hands. But you still found it absolutely adorable, endearing.
“It’s great, Ji!” You praised him, turning it around to look at the weave patterns on the inside more closely. “Here, do you want to wear this one, and I can—”
“No, this one’s yours.” He took it right back, getting up on his knees like you had before to place it on your head.
You sat utterly still to let him do so, watching him with bated breath. He was perhaps even more focused on placing the clover crown on your head than he was on making it, his nose scrunched with concentration, mouth pouting just the slightest, and brow furrowed. Then, once he’d set it atop your head, he smiled to himself in satisfaction.
“So? How do I look?” You asked quietly, in the small space between the two of you.
“Like… like a princess,” Jisung answered breathily, in the narrow space between the two of you.
“Ji?” You said his name, in the minute space between the two of you.
“Yeah?” He replied, in the meager space between the two of you.
“Can I kiss y—” You didn’t even get to finish your request, as the infinite space between the two of you became a finite zero.
Kissing Jisung was warm, but not warm like the end-of-summer-turning-fall day you were enjoying before, warm like you were just feet away from a volcano, like you were kissing the very heart of a mountain. His hands cupped your cheeks as his lips meshed with yours. You had been propping yourself up with one hand behind you, but you felt the need to grab onto his arms to ground yourself. This was apparently just enough to throw your joint center of gravity off, as the both of you went toppling backwards—or, more precisely, you fell onto your back, with Jisung on top of you.
The dragon barely caught himself with a hand next to your head to keep from completely cracking his forehead against yours. You two still bonked noses, breaking the kiss, and giggled almost exactly in sync.
“Oops,” you laughed, reaching up to feel for your clover crown, happy that it was still kind of in the vicinity of your hair.
Jisung was using one hand to prop himself above you, and the other was readjusting his own clover crown to now sit on the back of his head. He was still grinning as he dipped down to kiss you again, and you held his face this time, running a thumb over his cheek.
Tumblr media
Squished into one side of a booth in the student union with Jisung, you fervently read over your notes for your test in your next class.
“Fry,” Jisung murmured, holding said food up against your lips.
You opened your mouth without taking your eyes off your page, and he fed it to you. As you read about climate change’s effects on sirens’ native habitats, you chewed and swallowed the food without even tasting it. A moment later, a straw was pushed against your mouth too.
“Water.”
You took a sip to wash down the fry, humming contentedly as all the material in your notes was familiar to you. The test should be an uncomplicated A. Not an easy A, per se, but there shouldn’t be anything on it that surprised you, at least.
“What the hell?” Someone asked from beside your table, but you didn’t even look up. After all, you still had four more pages and only half an hour.
“What do you want, guys?” Jisung sighed. Oh, so more than one person. The first voice sounded familiar, probably some of your friends.
“What, uh, what’s going on here?” Different voice.
“Y/N’s studying. So if you don’t mind doing whatever this is later.”
Another fry. You chomped it down. Siren advocacy groups.
“Uh… sure. Yeah. You two… have fun. Come on, guys.” Third voice.
Water. Sip. Local community outreach.
When you came to a good stopping point in your notes—not quite done, but between topics—you finally looked up, setting your notebook down for a second. Jisung raised his eyebrows at you.
“Done already?” He asked, popping a fry into his own mouth.
You shook your head, taking a sip of your water on your own. “No, almost. Who was that?”
“Jeno, Jaemin, and Donghyuck.”
Hearing the names made the voices click into place. Donghyuck first, then Jeno, then Jaemin.
“Huh. Weirdos,” you scoffed. “Anyway, we still on for movie night at my place?”
“Absolutely. Chenle’s letting me borrow his box set of the director’s cut of those movies you wanted to watch.”
“Does Chenle know he’s letting you borrow these?”
“Yes, they’re hexed. If he weren’t letting me, they’d play the porno knockoff.”
You let out a full-body cackle. “Oh, that’s a good one. You can say a lot about His Highness, but you can’t say that he doesn’t have a sense humor.”
Tumblr media
A couple weeks later, and all eight of you were meant to be having a study session together at the library. Seven of you were already there— Jisung was coming late from a class. You had been one of the first in the room, and immediately put a bag down on a chair next to you to save it for him.
You were so innocently humming along to your music in your headphones as you took notes when you saw a hand reaching to tap the table in front of you. Pausing your music, you took one headphone out to look at the owner of the hand—Donghyuck—inquisitively. “Yes?”
“So you and Jisung have been hanging out a lot recently…” He rested his chin in his hand.
You narrowed your eyes, “Well, yeah…”
“Her heartbeat went up when you mentioned Jisung,” Mark added oh-so-helpfully.
“Gee, thanks, Mark,” you scoffed at the basilisk. “You want to go ahead taste the air for my pheromones or whatever too while you’re at it? Really complete this bonkers supernatural interrogation?”
“And then there was the fry thing,” Jaemin added, pointing at you from his seat next to Donghyuck. “I haven’t forgotten that.”
Jeno shivered beside you, “I don’t think I ever can.”
“He’s going over to her apartment a lot for movie nights. He keeps asking to borrow my nice collector’s edition box sets,” Chenle added, not looking up from his laptop. He readjusted his blue light glasses. “I think he’s trying to impress her.”
You looked around at all of them incredulously. “Uh, guys, seriously? I think Jisung and I are allowed to hang out, watch movies together, and eat together considering we’re—”
“Y/L/N Y/N, I swear to god you better not say because you’re ‘besties’ right now,” Renjun cut you off, throwing air quotes up around the word ‘besties.’ “Seriously, how can two people be so oblivious?”
Oh. Holy shit. They all thought you and Jisung were still friends. Somehow, apparently none of them knew that you and Jisung had started officially dating since that day in the park three weeks ago.
You were just staring blankly between all six of them, not sure how to respond. Thankfully, the door to the study room was opened then, Jisung rushing in.
“Hey, I’m here!” His bright demeanor fell as soon as he noticed the tension in the room. “What’s going on? What’d I miss?”
“Nothing, Ji,” you turned to him with a smile. Taking your bag off the last chair in the study room, you told him sweetly, “Here, I saved you a seat next to me!”
“Oh, thanks, Y/N!” He happily took it, plopping his bag down on the table to take out his laptop.
Tumblr media
After the study session was concluded, you all filed out together, you and Jisung right beside each other.
“Come on Jisung, I’ll drive,” Chenle called for his roommate, spinning his keys around his finger.
“Sure, hold on!” Jisung said back, waiting up to say goodbye to you.
“Renjun, you still up for ramen and ranting?” You clasped your hands together hopefully as you looked at your friend. It was ritual for you and Renjun to get together and rant over extra-spicy ramen whenever some drama had gone down within your department at the school. There’d been some going on this past week, and you and Renjun decided that late-night after studying was the perfect time to talk shit.
Except, he and Chenle seemed to lock eyes for a brief moment. And then, Renjun was checking his phone, throwing up his other hand, and sighing.
“Ah, Y/N, you know what,” he clicked his tongue. “I am so sorry, but I got a text from my dad while we were in that study session and he says the cat is sick. I’ve really got to go.”
“Your parents live three hours away—”
“Uh, Jisung! You like ramen!” Renjun gestured at the dragon that was still waiting next to you. “Why don’t you take Y/N for some ramen? Just- just you two?”
“That’s it! You’re taking too long, Jisung! I’m leaving you!” Chenle yelled dramatically from the front, giving his keys one last jangle before he quite literally ran off through campus.
You were too distracted watching Chenle incredulously to notice that Renjun had escaped too until you turned back around to talk to him. Then you realized that all of your friends had mysteriously dispersed.
“What just happened?” Jisung asked, looking around confused.
“I think… I think they set us up,” you scratched at your head.
“Like, a date? Don’t they…”
“I think they think they’re plotting to make us date.”
He blinked at you. You grabbed his arm to start walking down the sidewalks. “Come on, we can at least talk about this over some ramen.”
Tumblr media
“Didn’t you tell them?” Jisung’s face seemed as though it was permanently stuck in the same bewildered expression. You two were side by side at your favorite 24-hour ramen bar by the university, and you had finally filled him in on what he missed in the study room.
You slurped up a noodle. “I thought you did.”
“I thought you were going to!”
“They were your friends first!” You retorted indignantly.
“Hey, I only claim Chenle,” he held up his chopsticks and spoon defensively. “The others just came along.”
It was true that Jisung had befriended Chenle first, and the others just sort of came with the fairy. After all, dragons did tend to be solitary creatures, and on top of that, you’d be hard-pressed to find one hanging out with a dryad on purpose, much less two.
“Speaking of Chenle, how did you not even mention it to him? You live with him!”
“Well, every time I was going somewhere with you I’d be like ‘Oh, I’m going to wherever with Y/N’ or ‘I’m going to Y/N’s place.’ It’s not like I could call you something else.”
You tilted your head curiously. “Something else?”
“Like… you know… my girlfriend,” Jisung mumbled, very focused on stirring up some of his broth.
“Well… you could.” You were getting warm, and not from the spicy ramen.
He looked up at you, a smile growing on his face. “Yeah?”
“Yeah…”
“Okay, on one condition.” He set down both his utensils, holding up the number one.
“What’s that?”
“You call me your boyfriend.”
“God you’re dumb sometimes,” you shook your head, but still had fondness in your tone and your actions as you brought your hand up, all five fingers up. “Yes, duh.”
Jisung got the idea, opening the rest of his hand back up to lace all of his fingers with yours. You squeezed his hand, your stomach doing flips at the softness in his eyes as he looked at you.
The two of you brought your hands back down to keep eating, and your boyfriend circled your conversation back around to the entire reason you were here in the first place.
“Anyway, our friends.”
“Our friends,” you repeated unenthusiastically. “So… how are we going do it? They’re going to be annoying no matter how we go about it.”
“Good point. You know… they’re going to keep meddling if we don’t say anything. What if we just… let them?” He suggested.
“You’re proposing we fake not date and let them all run themselves in circles trying to connive us into dating?”
“How long do you think it’ll take them to notice?”
“A month,” you snorted.
“A month?” He scoffed. “Come on, they’re a bit dumb but they’re not that bad. Like, two weeks.”
“I think part of it’s going to depend on how stupid they think we are.”
That looked like it changed Jisung’s mind. “You’re so right, a month at least.”
“They’re going to kill us when they find out.”
“Don’t worry, the big scary dragon will protect you from their wrath, princess,” Jisung teased, throwing an arm around your shoulders to pull you closer and kiss your cheek.
You laughed, wrapping an arm around his waist. “Ji, never call yourself that again. Please. Even as a joke.”
Tumblr media
“So how was ramen?” Renjun asked before you could even open your mouth for a ‘good morning’ the next day.
“So how’s the family cat?” You shot back, taking your seat next to him in the lecture hall. “I was expecting to have to send you the notes for today since you had to drive to your parents’ three hours away in the middle of the night to see it.”
“You know, funniest thing happened. I had just gotten back to my apartment to pack, and my dad called me back and said the little guy made a full recovery. The vet called it a miracle. So I got my beauty rest in my own bed.”
You rolled your eyes. “Glad to hear Mr. Mittens is doing better.”
“So how was ramen?” The human repeated.
“Oh, it was really good!” You gushed. “I got a different bowl than I normally order, extra spicy still even though you and I weren’t gossiping, and I really, really liked it! I might make it my go-to order now instead of what I usually get.”
Renjun looked at you stone-faced. “Not the food, Y/N.”
“I don’t get it.”
“You and Jisung…”
“Ate ramen.”
“And…”
“Then we went home?”
“Separately?”
“He walked me home if that’s what you’re asking?” You raised an eyebrow. He always offers to, especially at night. It’s really nice of him.”
“Yeah,” Renjun said knowingly. “He’s so nice.”
Tumblr media
That afternoon, you met up with Jisung between classes in the student union, tucked away in an oversized armchair. You retold the story of Renjun asking about ramen to him, and your boyfriend giggled with delight.
“I’m telling you, Sungie, he looked like he was about to pop a blood vessel when he heard that we apparently didn’t magically fall in love over a bowl of ramen,” you snickered.
“Serves him right,” Jisung declared.
“What do you think they’re going to do next?”
“Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”
“In the meantime… movie night tonight?”
“I don’t know, I’m running out of Chenle’s box sets to impress you with.”
You laughed, gently nudging him in the side. “Guess you’ll just have to—”
“Hey… guys… what’s up?” Someone sputtered out from behind and just off to the side of the armchair.
Both you and Jisung whipped around to see Mark standing there, fountain drink in hand. He pulled his over-ear headphones off then, hanging them around his neck.
“Oh, hey Mark,” you waved at him, trying to play this off as casually as possible.
“Why are you two— you know,” he gestured vaguely to you and Jisung.
Jisung sat forward a bit, making the posing a bit less intimate with your faces further from each other. “Y/N and I both have time in between classes now, so we’re hanging out. I’d invite you on, but I don’t think there’s room. You can definitely pull up a chair or something and sit with us if you’ve got time though.”
“No, no, I’m good man,” the basilisk rejected the offer quickly. “Besides, I’ve got to meet up with Johnny for a thing, so, yeah. You two have fun… hanging out. Looks comfy.”
“Bye Mark!” You waved goodbye to him too, watching as he practically ran out of the building.
Tumblr media
“Chenle asked me point blank if this was just a movie night,” Jisung informed you, plopping down onto your couch.
“Observant of him.” You sat down beside him and grabbed your remote to queue up the first movie. “And what did you say?”
“I asked him what else it could possibly be.”
“And that worked?”
“Yes,” your boyfriend huffed, a wisp of smoke shooting out his nose. “I don’t know if I should be relieved or offended that everyone is so willing to believe that I’m this stupid.”
With the DVD previews now playing, you set the remote down to get settled in for the movie. Jisung lifted an arm up for you to snuggle into his side, and you let out a contented sigh at the familiar warmth and smoky scent that enveloped you. It was like cuddling your own personal furnace.
“For now, be thankful, Ji,” you patted his chest. “After all, we’ll never know this kind of peace after they find out.”
He stroked a knuckle up and down your arm lazily. “Yeah... you’re right.”
“Of course I am.”
“Hey, look at me?” He requested, his voice a murmur. “You’ve got something on your mouth.”
You lifted your head up, confused. Just as you’d complied, the dragon swooped in, pressing his lips to yours in a dizzying kiss.
Your head was still spinning as he pulled away, running his thumb over your bottom lip, where his fangs had just been nibbling the moment prior.
“I-I thought there was something on my mouth?” You asked breathily.
“There was.” He smirked, still holding your chin in place. “It was my mouth.”
Tumblr media
“Eep!” You let out a squeal as you nearly lost your balance, grabbing onto the shoulder of the closest person to keep from completely wiping out.
Jeno thankfully wasn’t very easy to knock over, and held your elbow to help you stay upright as you struggled to get reoriented. All your friends had gone ice skating today, and you were now realizing that you couldn’t even remember the last time you’d gone. You were a bit out of practice.
“You got it, Y/N?” The werewolf asked warily as you took a couple more cautious steps forward.
You wobbled a little. “Uh. No. Sorry, Jeno, just put me on the wall.”
“Here, you got her?” Jeno was talking to somebody else, but your eyes were glued to your skates to make sure you didn’t slip. So you weren’t even looking as the werewolf’s shoulder disappeared from your grip and was replaced by somebody else’s.
A warm hand was taking and moving yours, encouraging you to hold onto his upper arm for support. You immediately recognized it as Jisung’s, the only other person who would be this warm in the freezing temperature of the ice rink besides the werewolf who just left you. Pulling in closer to Jisung now, you felt a little bit more stable, and finally comfortable enough to look up from your feet to your boyfriend.
“Thanks, Ji,” you said genuinely, squeezing his arm.
“You’re welcome.” He smiled down at you. “Do you think you’re ready to start skating? The other guys have kind of abandoned us.”
Focusing your gaze ahead of you, you saw that your other six friends were way ahead of you on the rink. In fact, you couldn’t even see some of them at all, suspecting that they were about to be coming up behind you to lap you.
You nodded, preparing yourself mentally. “Yeah, I think I’m ready.”
And so you and Jisung started slowly moving along the ice together. Despite Jisung helping you stay upright initially—you still weren’t sure if he volunteered or was volunteered by your little matchmakers—he wasn’t really too adept of an ice skater either. He was truly only marginally better than you, so the two of you were slow going, and had a couple close calls in regards to stumbles. But you didn’t mind, you were spending time with your boyfriend and your friends. It was shaping up to be a really good day.
“Sorry, be right back. Bathroom break,” Chenle excused himself from the conversation you three were having at the moment, skating off at the next exit you passed by.
Craning your neck around, you realized that none of your friends were on the ice anymore. Renjun went to switch his skates out for a different size fifteen minutes ago, Mark and Jeno went to get food ten minutes ago, Jaemin and Donghyuck needed a water break five minutes ago, and now Chenle’s bathroom break.
“Huh…” You caught Jisung’s eye knowingly. “Looks like it’s just us now, Sungie…”
“Miraculously it is,” he agreed sarcastically.
“You think they’re coming back?”
Then both your phones went off, a text tone. Jisung stopped the two of you skating to take his out, showing that it was a text in your group chat with everybody.
[donghyuck: the concessions stand nachos gave mark food poisoning and he threw up everywhere so we’re all taking him home! you guys stay and skate though! have fun!]
“Guess not,” you sighed. “For Mark’s sake, and the poor employees’ sake, I hope that’s a complete lie.”
“Well, now that they’re gone…” Jisung turned to you, taking both of your hands in his and bringing them up to his mouth, blowing hot air over them. Your numb fingers quickly warmed up, and you watched his every move lovingly. He brought your hands back down from his mouth, eyes pleading, as he asked, “Can we go? I hate the cold.”
You laughed, nodding as you squeezed his hands. “Of course, yes.”
“Oh, thank you, thank you.” Jisung practically dragged you to the exit, lifting you with an arm around your waist to help you down the big step down from the rink to the main floor.

[jisung: did donghyuck ask you to meet him at the coffee shop in the student union in ten minutes?]
[you: no, but mark did]
[jisung: well, i'll see you in ten]
With a fond shake of your head, you pocketed your phone and started your journey across campus. Looks like you were going to have an impromptu coffee date with Jisung. You had to admit it, while their meddling could be annoying, it was a little fun sometimes to see when your next spontaneous date with your own boyfriend would be, as arranged by your six little matchmakers.
As you arrived at the small but extremely busy campus coffee shop, you surmised that you were the first one to get there, and hopped in the obscenely long line to at least order for yourself. You took out your phone to text your friend that you were supposed to be meeting.
[you: hey, i’m here! i’m in line, what do you want, in case i order before you get here?]
Mark did immediately text back his coffee order—which was actually an order for one of the “refreshers” that you were pretty sure was just a mix of various juices. Coffee was too bitter for his extremely sensitive snake tongue.
Your basilisk friend found you while you were still waiting for the drinks to come out, and once you had them in hand, the two of you went to find a spot to sit down together. You raised an eyebrow when he suggested a table with four chairs instead of the two-seater that you had spotted, but you shrugged and accepted his reasoning that it was in a quieter area. Sitting across from him, you put your bag in the seat next to you.
“So how’s your day going, Mark?” You asked him brightly, taking a sip of your drink.
“Hm? Oh, good, good.” His eyes flitted around the student union almost anxiously, as if he were anticipating something.
You pushed on in the conversation, however. “That’s good. And how are your powers coming along?”
Most natural-born magical creatures started developing their powers practically at birth, but basilisks didn’t come into theirs until after their first molting—which Mark just had last year. The last you’d heard, he’d partially petrified his human roommate Johnny back in the spring and had been working on getting them under control as they got stronger since.
“It’d be a lot better if Johnny would just let Taeil and Doyoung make him a protection charm so that I wouldn’t keep accidentally compelling and petrifying him,” Mark covered his face with a groan. “But no, he’s got this whole deal about wanting to make sure we all know he doesn’t think we’re monsters and he’s not afraid of us. Which is all well and good but like come on, maybe he should take at least some precautions when he’s like getting petrified by his basilisk roommate every week! So now I have to wear sunglasses around the apartment like I’m hungover 24/7.”
You winced sympathetically, not realizing the situation was that bad. “Maybe start sprinkling some weasel fur into his morning coffee?”
“Eugh, weasel fur coffee. I think you’ve described my actual worst nightmare.” Mark wrinkled his nose and looked like he was genuinely holding back a gag. “Anyway, I think he might notice if there were suddenly furs in his iced Americano every morning.”
“Maybe the witches can put it in something else innocuous that he’d use every day? It’d just be until you got a handle on your powers, remember.”
“If I ever do,” he sighed, stirring his straw around in his drink.
“You will, Mark,” you tried to reassure him. “It’s only been a year. These things take time.”
“Yeah, MCS major? Want to give me some statistics on basilisk powers to make me feel better?” He retorted, and you knew your friend well enough to understand that the words were meant to be light-hearted, despite the bitter and biting tone that they came out with instead.
You gave him a frank look. “I’m not Renjun. I’m not a walking, talking encyclopedia of magical creatures. But if you insist on making me think back to Intro to MCS… On average, basilisks take two to three years to reach full development of their powers after molting. You just molted a little over a year ago, you can’t put so much pressure on yourself to be perfect already, Mark.”
He ran a hand through his hair, forked tongue flicking in the air before he spoke again. “Fine, fine. You’re right. I knew all this, it’s just… it’s a lot more of a relief to hear it from somebody else.”
“I know what you mean, don’t worry,” you smiled at your friend.
He smiled back at you, genuinely, a flash of his two sharp snake fangs that hadn’t finished descending yet, then it turned sort of weird, before the smile fell entirely from his face. Mark sat forward in his chair, looking a bit more businesslike now. “Y/N, I’ve got to tell you something, and I don’t have very long, so please don’t say anything, just let me talk, okay?”
Your eyes widened with alarm at whatever the hell could be coming next, but you just slowly nodded.
“Thanks. I didn’t just ask you here to get coffee and hang out. I’m really sorry. You see, Donghyuck and I—”
“Mark! Y/N! Hey!” The very dryad that had just been named suddenly emerged from the crowd, with your boyfriend in tow.
Mark gave you an apologetic look before he turned to Donghyuck and Jisung. “Oh. Donghyuck. And Jisung. What a… surprise.”
The two newcomers each had their own coffee orders in hand, and you smiled at them.
“Hey, guys! Did you two get coffee too?” You did your best to pretend both like you had no clue something was up because Jisung told you about it, and because Mark had just almost told you about it.
“Yeah, we did!” Donghyuck replied cheerily.
“Well, we have a couple extra seats, if you want to join us,” you offered of your own volition this time, taking your bag off the chair next to you.
Jisung remained standing for a moment, looking to Donghyuck for his cue. The dryad was absolutely beaming.
“Of course!” He slid right in next to Mark, who looked like he wanted to die. “Thanks, Y/N!”
The dragon took the seat beside you with no further prompting.
You turned your focus back to the basilisk, doing your absolute best to feign obliviousness. “So, what were you saying, Mark?”
Donghyuck looked at him pointedly. “Yeah, Mark, what were you saying?”
“Never mind, I forgot,” he waved it off. “Wasn’t important, I guess.”
You shrugged, taking a sip of your drink.
“What’d you get, Y/N?” Jisung asked curiously.
“My usual. You want some?”
“Sure.”
You held yours out to him at the same time that he handed his over to you in return. As naturally as you could with the two pairs of dumbfounded eyes glued to you, you took a sip of Jisung’s drink. Yep, it was his regular order, same as always. You handed it back, holding out an expectant hand to receive yours again.
Jisung didn’t let either of your two slack-jawed friends recover to ask questions or make comments, though, immediately engaging them in conversation. “Donghyuck, how’d that report go, by the way?”
“Oh, don’t get me started on that Panforsaken assignment!”
Tumblr media
Jaemin threw the ball as hard as he could, and you watch as it sailed in a perfect arc, then suddenly changed direction midair, leaving Jeno to have to turn on the spot and run to catch up. You three had all gone back to the park again today, you and Jaemin weaving endless clover crowns in between throwing the ball for Jeno. It was another lovely day, a bit crisper than when you and Jisung had gone. A single, puffy white cloud floated by overhead as you hummed a tune to yourself, fingers mindlessly weaving in another blue wildflower.
“Y/N...” Jaemin said, reminding you of your dad who had caught you sneaking in after your curfew.
“Jaemin...” You mimicked his tone.
“So... what’s going on with you?”
“Spit it out, Jaemin. You clearly want to ask me about something specific.”
“Y/N, I’m a dryad. I’m in touch with nature, you know. The plants, the trees, the dirt, the animals, all of it,” he explained, setting his weaving down. “And that includes humans. As much as you humans don’t want to admit it, you’re a part of nature, too. And I know I can’t feel your emotions like a unicorn can, but I can tell that you and Jisung clearly care for each other.”
“Yeah, Jaemin, I love all of you guys. We’ve become really good friends over the years.”
“No, Y/N. Differently than the rest of us care for each other.” The dryad patted your cheek, a wistful look on his face. “I don’t know if you’re just lying to yourself, or if you haven’t realized it yet, but you and Jisung… it is different than the rest of us.”
You had to bite down on your bottom lip, cover your mouth, and hide your face in your chest to keep from laughing right in Jaemin’s face and entirely blowing your cover right then and there. The dryad clearly misinterpreted your actions, as he scooted closer and wrapped his arms around you, shushing and cooing at you.
“It’s okay, Y/N. It’s okay.” He rubbed your back. “I can’t feel dragons as well for… obvious reasons, but he likes you too. I promise. It’s all going to work out.”
You nodded, not trusting yourself to speak without giggling then.
“I got it—! Oh, uh…” Jeno’s excited cheers cut off as his voice got closer and closer. “Are you... okay?”
You felt Jaemin take one of his hands off your back, and could only imagine whatever silent conversation the two of them were having with gestures. After “composing yourself” again, you sat up straight, looking up at Jeno and holding your hand out.
“Yeah, I’m fine, Jeno,” you reassured him. “Come on, dude. It’s my turn to throw.”
Tumblr media
You drummed your fingers on the table beside your book, the highlighter nearly falling out of your other hand as you were about to fall asleep. Jeno, Jaemin, and Donghyuck weren’t faring any better than you, seeming about ready to fall asleep over their own textbooks and laptops too. The only member of your little study group who didn’t seem to be on the brink of a boredom-induced coma was Renjun. The human was chugging along through the assigned reading for one of your classes as per usual, dutifully taking his color-coded notes. You watched him through half-lidded, tired eyes, trying to figure out if he was maybe a robot, or was on Adderall, or was on the magic equivalent of Adderall, to be this committed of a student.
Renjun’s gaze slowly lifted from his textbook to you, then he raised an inquisitive eyebrow. “Yes, Y/N?”
“Okay. What is it?” You narrowed your eyes at him. “Drugs? Aliens? Because I’ll believe in the little guys now.”
“What?”
“How can you not be—”
“Hey, Y/N.” A soothing voice, warm hand on your head, and familiar cup from the campus coffee shop being placed in front of your face cut off your rambles right as you had begun to pick up steam. “Brought this for you.”
You looked up at Jisung, offering him as much of a smile as you could in your frazzled state. “Oh, hey, Ji. Thank you.”
“Also grabbed you these.” He unzipped the front pocket of his bookbag, taking out a holographic box of candy and setting it next to the drink on the table.
“Oh, Sungie…” You sighed, feeling the tension in your shoulders dissipate at the sweet gesture from your boyfriend. “Thank you. Seriously.”
Jisung gave your shoulder a squeeze. “‘Course. Well, I should let you get back to studying. I’ll see you later, princess.”
“Bye, Ji.” You gave him an unamused look, earning only a cheeky little smile in return. He got to walk away and leave you to deal with the aftermath of that nickname drop.
After he left, you were smiling to yourself happily anyway, basking in the warm, fuzzy feeling in your chest when you turned back around to see the looks on your friends’ faces. It took everything in you not to burst out laughing.
“He’s calling you ‘princess.’” Donghyuck deadpanned.
“Oh that? That’s just an inside joke.” You tried to play it off with a light, nervous laugh. “It’s not—”
“Inside joke?” Jeno repeated, as if there were any way for him to mishear you in the dead quiet of the library.
“Oh we would love to be enlightened to how this joke came about.” Jaemin requested sweetly, lacing his fingers together and resting his chin on them.
Donghyuck leapt back in to take the lead again. “Yeah, yeah, I’m sure it’s hilarious. Jisung is really known for his sense of humor. You know, like all dragons.”
You went to crack open the box of gummy candy Jisung had brought you, enchanted to change color and flavor based on your mood. This time the gummies were yellow and pink, lemon and strawberry flavored.
“Yeah, it’s a long story but that’s it. He doesn’t…” You trailed off sheepishly, giving them a look as if it were the most impossible thing in the world to imply that Jisung could possibly have romantic intentions behind calling you that.
Donghyuck’s eye twitched.
Tumblr media
You weren’t alone with Jisung again until the next night. Laying on your bed in your room, you heard the sound of your front door unlocking, then Jisung calling out to announce his presence. You yelled back loud enough so he knew where in the apartment you were.
As soon as he poked his head into your bedroom, you shot up in bed, pointing at him accusingly.
“You are a menace,” you declared, sitting up fully.
He snorted a puff of smoke out in disbelief. “What?”
“Donghyuck about exploded trying to explain the concept of petnames to me after you called me ‘princess’ yesterday.”
“I’ll do you one better.” Jisung challenged you, slinging his backpack around to his front.
“Oh really?”
He unzipped the main pocket of his bag to start rooting around in it. “I got a Renjun lecture of epic proportions today about human dating rituals.”
“No.” You covered your mouth with your hand in horror.
“He made me a PowerPoint and everything. I had to take notes.” Jisung dropped a spiral notebook onto your bed, and you scrambled forward to grab it.
“Oh my god,” you gasped, eyes skimming over the page. There, in Jisung’s messy scrawl, were little notes about how human dates work: gifts, flowers, the whole works. It was definitely a Renjun lecture, because it was phrased from an academic viewpoint, and absolutely did not read like just a friend giving another friend dating advice.
You looked up from the page to your boyfriend. “How did this even—”
“I really should’ve been more suspicious of his offer to study buddy up since you guys just studied yesterday, because I was then falsely imprisoned in a study room.”
“Oh, Sungie,” you cooed, tossing the notebook aside and reaching out for his face instead. “I am so sorry you had to be subjected to that.”
“I tried to tell him that I grew up around humanoids just fine, but he said that Chenle didn’t count,” Jisung sighed, letting you cradle his cheeks in your hands.
You chuckled. “Well, I do sort of have to agree with Renjun there. I like Chenle, but a fairy prince isn’t exactly representative of humans.”
“What?” He gave you a thoughtful pout.
“I mean, my aunt married a basilisk, so I grew up with basilisk cousins. But you wouldn’t want me to say that I know about dragons because of that, right?”
“Well… I guess, yeah.”
“That’s all I mean, Sungie.” You reassured him, looping your arms around his neck. “That doesn’t mean I wanted you to be locked in a study room all by yourself with Renjun for who knows how long being lectured on supposed human courting.”
“I wasn’t by myself, Jaemin was there too. He was the one keeping the door locked.”
You nodded solemnly, easily able to imagine how the dryad could do that any number of ways with any number of plants. Pulling him closer to you, you pecked his nose, then the apples of his cheeks.
“Seems like the dragon needed rescuing from the crazed madman this time, hm?” You teased as he wrapped his arms around your waist.
“Yes, unfortunately I think the school would have frowned upon me eating him or his leafy accomplice.”
“Presumably.”
He let his head fall forward into the crook of your neck with a groan, his hot breath washing over your skin.
“Well, you’re all safe here in my tower now,” you promised him, threading your fingers through his hair.
Tumblr media
Reclined into a corner of Jeno and Jaemin’s couch, you happily munched on your snack, feet propped up in Jaemin’s lap. Everyone was meeting at their apartment for a video game night, and you were still waiting on a couple more to arrive before you could officially start your mess of a tournament. Everyone’s schedules fluctuated so much that you always planned on having at least one required full-group hangout every month. Usually the activity chosen was a bit more exotic, but after Renjun's submission for last month’s “weirdly niche PowerPoint night” that was supposed to be ten minutes at most ended up being over an hour, it was decided that something easy and mundane was in order for this month. So, pizza and Super Smash Bros.
Chenle had arrived a couple minutes ago, unfortunately without his roommate. You knew that Jisung had ended up staying at the library much later than he intended—his assignment took longer than he expected to complete—but he was on his way now. The fairy was sitting sideways in an armchair, legs dangling over one arm and head supported by the other as he scrolled on his phone.
There was a knock at the front door, and Jeno got up to get it, as his roommate was currently preoccupied being your footrest. Not that the dryad seemed to mind, he was perfectly content to scold and correct Renjun from afar on how he was (apparently incorrectly) setting up the gaming system to accommodate all the additional controllers the eight of you would require to play at the same time.
Renjun was sat directly in front of the TV, bickering back with him. “Oh, you want to come get up and do it yourself, Jaemin? It’s your fucking Switch anyway.”
“Don’t need to get up,” Jaemin replied smugly, shooting a vine out to smack Renjun on the back of the head.
His reflexes were quicker than the human’s, as the plant had snapped back out of Renjun’s reach before he could grab it. What he was going to do with it if he got it, you didn’t want to know.
“Hey!” “Hi.”
You looked up from the building tension at the cheerful greetings. It had been Mark and Donghyuck at the door, the basilisk wordlessly squatting down next to Renjun to take a look at the gaming system too. You gave the newcomers a wave from your spot, which was slightly hindered by the sleeves of your oversized sweatshirt.
“I like that hoodie, Y/N.” Donghyuck sat down next to Jaemin on the couch, grabbing a chip out of the large bowl on the coffee table.
“Yeah, looks comfy.” Jaemin grabbed the end of the big sleeves and shook them around for emphasis. “Where’d you get it?”
“Huh?” You looked down at exactly what you were wearing. Well, shit. It was a plain black hoodie with a small simple embroidery of the brand’s logo on the front. It wasn’t yours, and you’d specifically worn it here so that you wouldn’t forget to bring it with you to give it back to the actual owner. “Oh, I don’t know, you’d have to ask Jisung, it’s his.”
“What?!” Donghyuck crushed his chip in his hand. Jaemin put a hand on his arm to encourage him to calm down.
“Yeah, we were hanging out yesterday and I got cold, so he let me borrow it. He accidentally left my place without it, so I’ve actually got to return it to him when he gets here.” And that was the truth. Not even carefully chosen words, or twisting of the narrative.
Donghyuck’s outburst had drawn the attention of everybody else in the living room—save for Chenle, who was still flicking through his phone.
“Wait, wait, let me get this straight, Jisung let you borrow something of his?” Renjun clarified.
“Yeah, Ji lets me use his stuff sometimes.”
Your human friend completely set the pieces of the gaming console down, and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Y/N. You’re a Magical Creatures Studies major. Think. A dragon let you borrow his stuff? And even forgot to ask for it back? Allegedly.”
“Oh my G— Renjun, come on! A bit stereotypical, don’t you think?” You crossed your arms defensively.
“Stereotype or not, Jisung doesn’t share,” Chenle cut in dryly. “He’s very protective of his hoard.”
“See?” Renjun gestured at the fairy vigorously.
You looked to the others for help, the panic in you real this time. Donghyuck looked like he finally had the last piece he needed to connect to finish his conspiracy board; Jaemin gave you a pointed, but satisfied look; Mark refused to meet your pleading eyes; and even Jeno, sweet Jeno, could just shrug at you.
“Dragons are kind of like werewolves, right?” He added casually. “We scent our pack. Or, I guess dragons have a nest?”
You could barely hear Jeno’s pondering at the end about the proper terminology for dragons, as nearly everyone else in the room about lost their damn minds at you. Their victorious cheers, jeers, and jokes went in one ear and out the other as your hands felt at the soft material of the inside of the hoodie.
As an MCS major, you always tried very hard to not treat your friends simply as their species, but as individuals, too, and learn about them personally in addition to whatever was covered in class. That was especially true for Jisung, who you knew didn’t really grow up around other dragons, so the habits and customs of dragons that you studied weren’t so easily applied to him. So when he offered you his hoodie last night, it was easy for you to just be giddy and happy because your boyfriend was sharing clothes with you. But it wasn’t just a hoodie, really. You and Renjun hadn’t taken your class on dragons, basilisks, and wyverns yet, therefore the only stuff you knew was from Intro to MCS and personal experience. But this was still—
Then, the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it!” Donghyuck shot to his feet and ran for the front door before anybody else could.
“Speak of the dragon and he shall appear!” The dryad announced cheerfully just a second later, dragging Jisung in with an arm around his neck.
“Hey, Jisung!” Jaemin brushed your feet off his lap to stand up as well. “Here, sit. I’ll grab you something to drink.”
“Uh, hey, guys.” Jisung shook Donghyuck off to straighten up and look around at everyone. The dragon sat down beside you. “Hi, Y/N.”
“Hey, Ji. I’ve got your hoodie, sorry about accidentally stealing it last night.” You grabbed the hem, about to take it off to give it back.
“It’s okay, you can hold onto it. It’s a bit drafty in here.” He waved you off nonchalantly, accepting a drink from Jaemin, who had just returned from the kitchen.
“Oh. Thanks.” You pulled your knees in to your chest, too overwhelmed to say much else.
Renjun was right, you were well aware that dragons were possessive over their belongings— gold or otherwise. The gravity of Jisung offering the hoodie to you in the first place and now letting you keep it was not lost on you. And then there was of course Jeno’s insightful comment.
“So why were you talking about me without me around?” Jisung asked the others, not sounding very thrilled at the idea.
“Y/N was just telling us that you two were hanging out last night.” Donghyuck happily informed him.
“Alone.” Jaemin added.
“Again.” Jeno coughed.
The first dryad continued, “We’re hurt that we weren’t invited.”
Jisung scoffed, “Well considering you guys just disappear all the time now, we figured you didn’t like hanging out with us anymore.”
“But since you want to hang so bad, we should all do something this weekend!” You leapt in to suggest.
“Great idea, Y/N.” Jaemin was beaming at you.
Chenle tapped a couple things on his phone as he offered, “Isn’t the student activities board hosting that movie screening on the lawn?”
“Yeah!” Mark perked up, looking up from all the wires and controllers he was still messing with. “Taeyong’s on the board this year and he’s really excited for everything they’ve got planned. I know he’d love it if we all went.”
Taeyong was another friend of Mark’s; a unicorn, if you could recall correctly.
“Sounds like a plan.” Jisung nodded.
You pointed a threatening finger at everyone except your boyfriend, “And I swear, if a single one of you bail in the middle of the movie, I’m going to think you hate me.”
“Y/N! I could never hate you!” Jaemin gasped, throwing a hand over his chest in offense.
“Then stop leaving me!”
Tumblr media
“C’mon, Renjun, we’re gonna miss the start of the movie!” You were practically dragging your friend through campus.
“You mean you’re going to miss precious time with Jisung,” Renjun retorted, but nevertheless gave in to your tugging on his arm, starting a light jog to keep up with you.
“And what do you mean by that?” You asked. Honestly, you were kind of hoping that he was onto you. It was funny at first to see your friends run themselves in circles, but now it was just a bit saddening—and annoying—to not interact with your boyfriend how you really wanted to all the time.
Your human friend sighed. “Nothing. Nothing at all.”
Finally, the two of you arrived at the front lawn, and you craned your neck around to look for your other friends. You and Renjun were the last two to arrive. There, off to the side and up towards the front of the open space, several blankets overlapped, and your other six friends were sprawled out on them. Jeno and Jisung had spotted you two already, waving to get your attention.
A large white screen had been set up to one side of the university’s front lawn, the chosen movie being projected across it. Thankfully, it hadn’t started yet. You could see a stand where the student activities board was handing out popcorn, and students were scattered about the lawn. Your friends had gotten a spot opposite from the snack stand, and you and Renjun traversed your way around other attendees to get to them.
“Hey!” You smiled at everyone, plopping down beside Jisung without a second thought. “Sorry we were almost late—”
“But somebody forgot the candy.” Renjun cut in as he dropped a convenience store bag onto the center of the blankets, pointed glare fixed on Chenle and Jisung.
“We remembered the chips!” Jisung defensively pointed to a pile of bags of chips and other salty snacks that were sitting in the middle of everyone.
Mark patted a cooler beside him. “And Hyuck and I remembered the drinks. And nobody’s late. So everything’s fine, Renjun.”
You chuckled, overturning the bag to dump out all the boxes and bags of candy onto the pile of snacks as well. Everyone grabbed what they wanted and settled in for the start of the movie. It was cool outside, and though you were already wearing Jisung’s big hoodie, you also wrapped one of the extra blankets around your shoulders.
“Are you cold?” Jisung asked you quietly. There was a steady hum of chatter from the crowd, which had become a little softer with the beginning of the movie.
“‘M alright, Ji,” you reassured him. “Just... don’t move too far away. You’re like a portable space heater.”
He shifted around to lay down, his head and most of his upper body in your lap. You weren’t sure how much of the movie he could actually see from this angle, with Mark, Jeno, and Renjun in front of you, but you weren’t going to be the one to point that out. The two of you were towards the back corner of the blankets, Jaemin and Donghyuck to your left, Chenle on the other side of and in front of Donghyuck; Mark and Renjun were properly sitting up at the front of the blanket, with Jeno sprawled out across their laps—reminding you just a little bit of a happy puppy looking for ear rubs.
You fondly brushed some of Jisung’s hair out of his eyes, contemplating the pros and cons of just kissing him on the nose right now. Yeah, there’d probably be no way in hell you could play that off, but he was scrunching it up very adorably as he concentrated on reaching for a small patch of clover that was just off to the side next to the blanket.
You were still weighing your options when he changed his focus to a point just past your head instead. His eyes flicked between the weaving in his hands and the sky as he got the clover crown started, but once he’d gotten the rhythm down, he just kept gazing upwards.
“Pretty stars...” He murmured.
“I know.” You looked up at the sky, at all the stars twinkling and winking back at you. “What do we think? Are there aliens up there with them?”
“Mm... Maybe.”
You looked down at Jisung, mouth quirked up in an amused but affectionate smile. “Yeah?”
“Well, space is pretty big.”
After a pause, you nodded. “Okay, sure. Why not?”
“Seriously?” Renjun was looking at you over his shoulder incredulously. “I’ve done actual research on this, I’ve tried to succinctly make real arguments for you multiple times since we met, I chose it for my PowerPoint night topic with actual scientific studies and facts. And Jisung just bats his eyelashes at you and says ‘space is big’ and you’re convinced?”
He looked like he was about to pop a blood vessel. You froze, looking around at all of your friends that had turned to witness this interaction like you were the movie instead.
Jisung frowned. “I didn’t bat my eyelashes. Did I bat my eyelashes?”
“You kind of did, Jisung.” Chenle reached over to ruffle his hair, and the dragon swatted his hand away, earning a cackle from the fairy.
“Uhh...” You scrambled to think of a way to placate your human friend. “I think I just needed some time to get my head around the idea, Renjun. You know, I think the next time you really would have persuaded me, but Jisung just beat you to it, sorry.”
Renjun didn’t seem convinced, but just rolled his eyes and looked back to the movie. “Yeah, I’m sure I would’ve gotten you next time, Y/N. Tin foil hat and all.”
The others all turned back to the movie now that the spectacle was over, except for Jaemin, whose attention was still on your boyfriend.
“Jisung? When’d you learn to make clover crowns?” He asked curiously, head tilted.
“Hm? Oh, Y/N showed me.” Jisung replied absentmindedly, looking down at his hands as if he hadn’t even realized he was doing it.
Jaemin looked at you with wide eyes, and you looked back at him sheepishly in a silent conversation, as you both were definitely thinking of the exact same thing.
The day that Jaemin had shown you how to make clover crowns, he’d told you an oral tradition that was passed down among dryads about them. Your friends were always happy to indulge your interest in the folklore and religious/spiritual aspect of Magical Creatures Studies, especially in contrast to Renjun’s sometimes militant laser focus on the current socioeconomic-political structure of modern society.
It was a story about two dryads who were in love. One had to leave—depending on who was telling the story, it was a trip, a war, or a kidnapping; Jaemin opted for a dangerous trip—for an indeterminate amount of time. The other dryad waited, and weaved a clover crown every day until their lover came back to them. Nowadays, dryads will weave clover crowns for their loved ones, it’s a treasured tradition for older members of families to show young relatives how to do it, and elaborate clover crowns with specific flowers will sometimes be given as confessions or special gifts to romantic partners. Clover crowns are connected to the idea of love for dryads.
And judging by the look Jaemin was giving you, he was not going to ascribe this one to cultural differences.
Donghyuck had whipped around at this revelation as well, and smacked Jaemin’s arm to get his attention. The two dryads leaned their heads together to have a hushed conversation of fervent whispers, and you desperately hoped that whatever they were saying was both quiet enough for your friends with super hearing to not be able to distinguish, and vague enough that if it could be overheard, it wouldn’t make any sense to them. Well, specifically Jisung.
You were walking a very narrow tightrope of wanting your friends to find you two out so you could get it over with, while also not needing them to find out this way, since Jisung didn’t even know about the meaning behind the clover crowns. Your relationship was still new, fresh, bubbly, and good; you two hadn’t even said ‘I love you’ yet. Based on how the dragon had reacted to just you discussing the societal concept of marriage in an academic context before, you wanted to approach the whole ‘I love you’ situation with a lot more tact than your friends would surely have.
You’d been nervously watching the two dryads when a tap on your shoulder stole your attention back. You looked down at Jisung attentively. “Yeah, Sungie?”
“Here,” he said simply, holding up the finished clover crown for you.
Despite the anxious pretzels that your stomach was knotting itself into, you couldn’t help but smile fondly at both the crown and Jisung. “Ah, you’ve gotten a lot better, Ji.”
You were just moving a few of the buds aside to inspect his improved weave pattern when he spoke up again.
“Are you going to put it on or give me a grade on my clover crown weaving?” He pouted at you.
“Sorry, sorry,” you apologized, placing the crown atop your head. “There. Happy?”
He sighed melodramatically. “I suppose...”
“You want your own?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Hush and watch the movie, I’ll make you one.”

At the end of the movie, you were satisfied with the fact that all of your friends had ended up staying with you this time. After holding out the convenience store bag for everyone to throw their trash into, you momentarily left the group to throw that bag out in a large campus trash can. The others stayed back to pack up all the blankets and such.
You weren’t alone for long, as Donghyuck sidled up next to you and fell into step with you.
“Great Pan, you’re practically betrothed!” He sighed, putting a hand on his chest.
You gave him an unamused look, but didn’t reply, continuing your route through the mass of other students.
“Y/N, seriously,” he sighed, leaning against the wall by the can as you tossed the bag in the trash. “What’s this whole song and dance about? How can we be more obvious? You two like each other. Do you need to hear him say it? Will that finally convince you?”
You opened your mouth, about to just blurt it out, finally end this whole stupid charade, be done with it, with everything. But Donghyuck was still. Talking.
“I mean, I thought I’d had my fill of playing matchmaker for the oblivious and hopeless on spring break—” He laughed to himself, seemingly remembering something funny, which you had no clue what on earth he was talking about. “—but you two are really something else.”
Setting your jaw, you spun on your heel and walked away, leaving him to scramble his way through the crowd to catch up with you.
“Hey! Y/N! Wait! Was it something I said?”
Tumblr media
Knocking on the door of Jisung and Chenle’s apartment, you bounced from heel to toe as you waited for your boyfriend to answer the door. Usually, you two didn’t hang out at his place unless he knew Chenle was going to be out all day, or for several days. It was just a lot easier to relax at your apartment with no roommates. But he’d texted asking you to meet him ASAP, so you’d yanked your shoes on and hurried over.
You heard the familiar sounds of the door unlocking, then it was swung open. Except Jisung wasn’t on the other side.
“Y/N.” Chenle greeted you with a curt nod, not seeming very surprised that you were there. Well, they did have a rather robust security system thanks to His Highness here in front of you, so he had probably checked the front door camera before answering it.
“Oh hey, Chenle.” You smiled at the fairy as he stepped back to let you in, and followed him further in towards the living room. Looking around, you couldn’t spot your boyfriend. In fact, in the back of your mind, you realized that a pair of his sneakers were missing by the front door. “Where’s Ji?”
“Grocery run.”
Weird. His text made it sound like an emergency, or at least extremely important. To text you to meet him ASAP and then just go to the grocery store... Maybe he had gotten a new game in and just wanted to show you immediately, then realized he was out of snacks. That definitely sounded like Jisung. Deciding that it was probably something like that, you looked back to his roommate, a little sheepish, “Uh, do you mind if I wait for him, then? He texted me to meet him here.”
“No, he didn’t. I did from his phone, right before I asked him to go get me some cough drops for my sore throat that I don’t have.” Chenle admitted freely, perching on the arm of a leather armchair and focusing an unreadable expression on you.
“I see.” You nodded, leaning against the couch opposite the room from him. “So, what did you want to talk to me about that you had to use such methods to do so?”
“Y/N. We both know that Jisung is stupid.”
“Woah, tell me how you really feel, Chenle,” you chuckled, trying to keep your voice light.
“And you’re not.”
“Gee, thanks.”
“So, at this point, either you’re being intentionally obtuse, or you’re stringing Jisung along. And I’m not going to sit back and let anyone do that to him.”
Your eyes widened at the hard edge Chenle’s tone had taken, and the faint lime green glow emanating off of him. “Uh—”
“Jaemin and Donghyuck are always talking about being in tune with nature, sensing humans, knowing what’s in a human’s heart. They’re into all that crap. I know humans. You’re more like fae than you like to think.” He was practically spitting his words out now, unable to sit still, pacing the floor in front of the armchair. Slowing to a stop again, he pivoted on his heel to set his sharp eyes back on you—except they weren’t his usual dark brown, they were an electric, glowing, burning neon green. “So you’re going to either actually make the first move on that moron, or reject him. Today.”
Oh the jig was so up. Just as you were about to figuratively spill your guts—in order to keep from having them literally spilled for you—the click of the front door shutting echoed through the apartment. You didn’t dare take your eyes off the fairy in front of you, though.
“Chenle, stop it.” Jisung sighed from behind you, and you did finally snap your head around when you heard his voice, relief flooding your being when you saw your boyfriend.
Chenle’s eyes immediately flickered back to a chocolate brown, all glow gone, and he offered a placid smile to the dragon. “Oh, Jisung. Quick grocery trip. And you didn’t even get my lozenges.”
“I was all the way at the store when I realized I forgot my wallet,” the dragon deadpanned, clearly not believing his roommate’s act, which the fairy was well aware of. He made his way over to you and wrapped an arm around your shoulders. “Leave her alone, Chenle. She’s not deceiving me.”
“We’re kind of deceiving all of you.” You confessed to the fairy, bracing yourself for what was to come.
“Yeah, we’ve uh, we’ve been dating for two months,” Jisung confirmed with a nod.
“You… what?” Chenle’s jaw dropped, genuine disbelief on his face this time.
You added, “We wanted to see how long it would take you guys to notice.”
“And see how far you’d take your meddling. I’m honestly surprised it took this long to escalate to threats from you, Chenle. But I was expecting them to be aimed at me, not Y/N. Something along the lines of ‘actually ask her out or I’ll hex you,’ not this.” Jisung then looked at you, features turning concerned and voice softer. “I’m sorry, by the way, if I thought this was even a remote possibility, I would have called this off sooner. Are you okay?”
“I know, Jisung, I know you would’ve. I’m fine, I promise,” you reassured him quietly, tilting your head closer as he pressed a quick peck to your temple.
Chenle didn’t seem to be paying you two much attention anymore, stumbling towards the other end of the couch that you and Jisung were standing at. “You not only played a trick without me, but you played it on me?”
He dramatically clutched at his chest like he’d been stabbed. “You caused mischief and strife without me? Wreaked havoc and I was none the wiser? Pulled the wool over my eyes?”
He finally sat down on the couch, falling back against the plush cushions as if he were going to perish at any second, throwing a hand over his face for good measure.
“Is he okay?” You leaned over to ask Jisung quietly.
“He’ll probably continue these theatrics for another five to ten minutes, then we can have a real conversation,” Jisung informed you.
“I heard all of that!” Chenle pointed an accusatory finger at you two.
“Chenle, how about we make it up to you?” You offered.
Your boyfriend looked at you with wide eyes, making a slicing motion over his neck with one hand, clearly signaling you to back off of doing that. You were well aware that making any kind of deal with a fairy was a bad idea, especially one that would put you in their debt.
The fairy didn’t move, instead letting out a fake sob.
“Help us play one last trick on the rest of the guys. A grand finale.”
Jisung squinted at you, clearly having no clue what the hell you were talking about. Which was fair, because you had just come up with it on the spot.
Chenle shot up into a sitting position, looking alive and well now. He laced his hands together over his lap. “Do tell.”
Tumblr media
“I do have to say Jisung, you chose well. She’s practically a fairy,” Chenle declared, patting his roommate on the shoulder. The three of you were hiding behind a building on your college’s campus, peeking around at the main courtyard to spy on Mark, Donghyuck, and Renjun standing and having a conversation.
“I hate this.” Jisung huffed, crossing his arms.
You rubbed his other shoulder with a concerned frown, “We don’t have to do it if you really don’t like it, Sungie.”
“No, I mean you two getting along. I know the prank is fake.”
“Aw, afraid that I’m going to replace you with her as my partner in crime, Jisung?” Chenle teased. “Don’t worry, I think I’ve just found another accomplice. We’ll be a trio instead of a duo.”
The fairy’s eyes seemed to glitter at the prospect, and not just with the usual amount of magic that was in them.
“You are not roping Y/N in, too,” Jisung insisted.
“I don’t know, Sungie. Kinda sounds fun.” You shrugged, always hearing the two of them recount their misadventures together—or witnessing the odd one here or there—but never having the opportunity to join them properly before.
“See?” Chenle grinned smugly.
Jisung huffed again, this time a puff of smoke coming out of his nose. “Like I said. I hate this.”
“Anyway, there they are. You go in first, Jisung.” Chenle had finally spotted your last two targets, Jeno and Jaemin, joining the others.
“See you in a second, Sungie.” You gave him a final double thumbs up for encouragement before he took off towards them.
After a beat of silence, Chenle suddenly proclaimed, “I like you for Jisung.”
“Uh, thanks, Mr. Park, I have to say, you look great for your age.” You joked, arching a bemused eyebrow at your friend.
“That would be funny if either I or Jisung were human,” he replied humorously. “But I’m being serious. You know how Jisung and I met, right?”
“Yes, I do.” You nodded solemnly.
Chenle had found Jisung on the outskirts of his kingdom back home, a little dragon curled up all alone under a bush in a rainstorm, no other dragons in sight. At the time, Chenle himself was only a boy as well. Jisung didn’t talk much about his life before Chenle, and you didn’t know if he could even remember a lot, if anything, about it. The two of them were pretty much brothers; you knew what it meant for Chenle to say that to you.
“Thank you, Your Highness.” Your words could have been joking, or even an insult, but you hoped he could hear the sincerity in your voice as you bumped your shoulder with his. The fairy nodded, and bumped you back.
“Anyway, you think it’s been enough time?” Chenle craned his neck to peer around the corner again.
“Probably.”
“Alright, showtime,” Chenle held his hand out for you, and you grabbed it.
The two of you emerged from around the corner hand-in-hand, striking up a nonsense conversation about Chenle’s latest assignment in one of his classes. You pretended like you just happened to spot the cluster of all of your friends, delight, surprise, and recognition coming to your features as you lifted your other hand to wave to them. You watched as all their jaws dropped in unison—minus Jisung’s—and they started looking around at each other. You and Chenle walked right up to them, and you offered all of them a bright smile.
“Hey guys!” You greeted them cheerily.
“Chenle this has got to be the lowest you’ve ever gone,” Donghyuck shook his head in disgust, completely ignoring your hello.
“Yeah man, Jisung’s your best friend,” Mark scoffed.
“You raised him!” Jaemin wrapped an arm around Jisung’s shoulders.
“You fed him from your hand!” Jeno stepped in front of Jisung protectively.
“Just because you’re some high and mighty fairy prince or whatever where you’re from doesn’t mean you can treat people like they’re disposable,” Renjun crossed his arms. “Here you’re just some guy like everybody else.”
“Woah!” You let go of Chenle’s hand to step in front of him with your hands up. “Guys, that’s enough!”
“I bet Y/N’s not even in control of what she’s doing,” Renjun entirely ignored you. “He’s probably got her under some fairy spell or something.”
“What the fuck?” Chenle cried out, offended.
“Yeah!” Jaemin nodded firmly. “Because she’s totally into Jisung, I know she is. I know her heart!”
“Guys!” You yelled again for their attention.
“Don’t worry, Jisungie, we’re going to get her out from under that spell,” Jaemin cooed, stroking Jisung’s face as he currently had what was practically a chokehold on the dragon that definitely looked less than comforting.
“Jeno, grab her!” Mark ordered, and the werewolf immediately started advancing on you.
“Oh my god stop it, guys! Stop! I’m not under a spell! Chenle and I aren’t dating! Jisung and I are! We’ve been dating for like two months and we pretended not to because we wanted to see how long it would take you to notice!” You yelled out, squeezing your eyes shut to brace yourself.
But there were no super strong werewolf arms grabbing you. Instead, it was silence that became one chuckle, then a giggle, then two giggles, then you were surrounded by raucous laughter. You cautiously opened your eyes to see all your friends doubled over with laughter around you, clutching their stomachs and holding onto each other for support. You and Jisung were the only ones standing up straight, immediately realizing what was going on when you made eye contact.
“Seems we’ve been made, Sungie,” you deadpanned, wading through the sea of cackling bodies until you got to your boyfriend.
“It appears so…” He sighed, looping an arm over your shoulders, and you wrapped an arm around his waist.
As they all sobered up, a few were quite literally wiping tears from their eyes, others fanning themselves, and some still clutching their sides.
“How?” You looked around, then saw a very familiar, exceptionally devilish grin. “Chenle?”
“What better trick is there to play than being a double agent?” The fairy confirmed.
“Oh, you suck,” Jisung glared at him.
“You guys tricked us first. It was much more satisfying to get one over on you than to keep making the idiots look like idiots.”
“Hey!” Donghyuck cried out indignantly.
Chenle caught your eye to say, “I do mean what I said, Y/N.”
You nodded in understanding. “Thanks, Chenle.”
“Alright, I think we all learned some very important lessons,” Mark announced, getting everyone in a disjointed huddle. “Like…”
“Don’t be so nosy,” Jeno started off genuinely.
“Make sure the people you’re setting up aren’t already dating, or they might make you look like idiots,” Renjun added.
“Double check human emotions with a unicorn if you’re having doubts,” Jaemin sighed wistfully.
“Never go out to eat with Y/N and Jisung. Especially if there’s fries involved,” Donghyuck shivered, and you rolled your eyes. He was seriously never going to let that go.
“I’ve got two partners in crime now, so everybody else needs to sleep with their third eye open.” Chenle grinned.
“That I’m never getting into a prank war with any of you people again. This was too stressful, school’s bad enough,” you groaned with a shake of your head.
“Chenle’s an asshole,” Jisung hissed at his roommate.
“I think Jisung needs to do his over, he already knew that about me,” Chenle drawled with a facetious whine.
“Fine. Chenle’s an asshole who needs to understand that if he threatens my girlfriend again, he’s going to get burned to crisp.”
The fairy shrugged, “I’ll take it.”
“Great, you guys.” Mark beamed at you all proudly.
“What about you, Mark? What’d you learn?” Donghyuck prompted him teasingly.
“That Y/N and Jisung are dating. Duh.”
“Right. Yeah, yeah.” There were murmurs of agreement from the gaggle of creatures around you.
“So, truce?” You offered a hand out in the middle of the huddle to nobody in particular.
All six of them grabbed your hand at once and shook it. “Truce!”
“So…” Donghyuck fluttered his eyelashes at you. “How’d it happen? What’s the story?”
You scoffed, “No.”
“What? You lead us on for two months and now you won’t even tell us how you got together?”
“It’s not some big dramatic thing, sorry,” Jisung admitted. “Just kind of finally happened.”
“What do you mean ‘finally happened?’ Like, how did it ‘finally happen?’”
You exchanged a look with Jisung. With an eye roll, you indulged the dryad a little. “We were hanging out at the park one day and just sort of... I don’t know! Confessed! Got together! Whatever you want to call it!”
“Lame.” Renjun yawned. “Call me when you two get married.”
Jisung started forward in surprise. “Wh—”
“Because there hasn’t been a recorded human-dragon marriage, Sungie.” You patted your boyfriend on the chest reassuringly. “He’s just being an MCS major.”
“Oh. Right.”
The human abruptly gasped. “Wait! Can I write my final paper for Dr. Kwon’s class on you two?”
“Hell no.”
Tumblr media
A few weeks later, and you were reclined against Jisung’s headboard, waiting for him to get back from the kitchen with snacks. You two were playing a new two-player game Jisung had gotten, and as soon as you had showed up, Chenle loudly announced his intention to go hangout at Jeno and Jaemin’s and very probably sleep over too, since they also planned on gaming until very late. You figured your friends’ “matchmaking” behavior would stop once they knew that you and Jisung were together, but apparently not.
At the reappearance of your boyfriend in the doorway, juggling several different containers, you set your phone aside. He managed to put them all down on his nightstand without dropping them. You scooted forward and re-fluffed the pillows behind you to make room for him and his wings.
Jisung’s wings weren’t out frequently—you yourself had only seen them a handful of times in the couple years that you’d known him. Dragons either had to be entirely shirtless or wear specially cut shirts in order to have them out comfortably. Most stores didn’t carry shirts in a style that allowed for dragon wings, allegedly since there were so few dragons it “wasn’t profitable” to make them. So dragons were then forced to make their own, have their clothes altered, or order from online specialty shops. Jisung usually just didn’t bother with it, as he claimed it was more of a pain to get the shirts than it was to just keep his wings away. But you and Chenle had started a master plan of slowly sneaking the dragon cut shirts into Jisung’s wardrobe until it was 50/50. You two also had a bet going of how long until Jisung grew suspicious of the rising number of shirts. So far, both of you were still in the running at two weeks.
Tonight, it seemed Jisung had found one of the new dragon cut shirts, just a simple black tank top from the front, but the back was cut into two side panels and a middle section that draped open to allow plenty of space for his midnight blue wings to rest behind him.
Except Jisung didn’t scoot on the bed behind you like you expected. He just kept standing next to it, looking at you, one hand fidgeting with the gold chains around his neck.
“Sungie?” You said his name quietly. “You alright?”
“Yeah, yeah,” he shook his head as if to shake himself from a trance, though that same pensive look didn’t leave his face. “Sorry, just thinking.”
“What about?”
“Y/N, I want you to have this.” He grabbed one of the necklaces by the chain and took it off. With no hesitation, he reached forward and put it around your own neck. Your breath hitched in your throat as you watched his every move, and the intense look on his face as he did so.
The necklace was beautiful, an immaculately kept dazzling gold chain of medium thickness, and hanging from it, a simple, shining gold sun pendant, about the size of your thumbnail. The metal was warm from already touching Jisung, and sat heavy against your skin.
“Y-You’re giving me this?” You held the sun with delicate fingers, as if afraid it would actually burn you, looking up at him in shock.
“Yeah. I don’t know, it just... makes me happy seeing you wear it.” He said, sounding almost confused at his own actions.
Letting you borrow a hoodie was one thing—a big thing, but still, only a hoodie. Giving you a piece of jewelry that he was wearing—part of his hoard—you didn’t know how to compute this. Jisung wasn’t around a lot of dragons for most of his life, so you knew that the exact cultural significance of the action wasn’t there. But that significance came from dragons’ instinctual hoarding nature, which was still ingrained in him. For it to make him happier to see you wearing a piece of his hoard than to keep it for himself… you really thought your heart might explode.
“Y/N?” Jisung lightly touched your arm, worry coloring his tone. “D-Do you not like it?”
“No! No, Sungie. I love it, thank you,” you beamed at him genuinely. You caressed his cheek with the backs of your fingers, eyes going a little misty as you looked up from the glinting gold of the necklace to the midnight blue eyes of your dragon. You were happy, so happy that if you didn’t say something, do something, it felt like you really might burst.
You turned your hand over to cup his cheek, pulling him closer and pressing your lips to his. He made a small noise, and suddenly dropped down to sit on the bed with you. Jisung kissed you back just as ardently, one hand trailing down from the back of your neck to your collarbone then below the hollow of your throat, tracing the path of the jewelry along your skin.
When you had to pull back from the kiss for air, you shifted back fully to look him in the eye, still cradling his face. You inhaled, “I—”
“Wait!”
You stopped mid-sentence at Jisung’s outburst, snapping your mouth shut and looking at him with big, confused eyes.
“Sorry, uhm, I know what you were about to say, and I also know that I’ve been weird whenever you or Renjun brought up your Interspecies Marriage class.” Jisung seemed to notice how your expression became more and more alarmed as he spoke, and he grabbed your hand that had frozen on his face, holding it with both of his. He rubbed soothing circles into the back of your hand as he continued, “I don’t want you to think that I’m not serious about you, because I am. N-not marriage or anything like that right now. But I’m serious about this, about you. I am. So I just, I wanted to say it first.”
“Okay.” You let out a breath of relief and smiled at him encouragingly.
Jisung just kept gazing at you, mouth slightly parted, thumb rubbing circles into your hand. The only indication that time hadn’t literally frozen was the slight shift of his wings adjusting behind him, and when he eventually blinked.
Finally, you couldn’t take the silence anymore.
“Jisung?” You said his name, wetting your lips awkwardly. “Like, you wanted to say it now, or not yet?”
“Sorry, yeah, no, now.” He reassured you, taking a deep breath. His eyes still seemed to be drinking you in, though, gaze lingering on the sun hanging from your neck. “You’re just so beautiful… It really does make me so happy to see you wearing that. More than happy, I don’t know how to describe it, but—”
Then suddenly you were on your back, and all you could see was Jisung and midnight blue with flashes of gold. A surprised giggle came out of your mouth as Jisung nuzzled his face in the crook of your neck. You felt a hot puff of air wash over your skin, and you reveled in the comforting, smoky smell surrounding you.
“But now I think I understand all those fairytales where the dragon keeps the princess in their tower and never lets her go.”
You stroked the back of his head, running your hand down his neck and shoulders, stopping just above where his wings start, then back up to weave your fingers in his hair. With a content sigh, you said softly, “I love you, too.”
Your dragon pushed himself up to hover above you so you could see his disgruntled pout. “I wanted to say it first.”
“I think you just did.” You laughed giddily.
“Well... still, I love you.” Jisung brushed his nose with yours for a tender moment before slotting his mouth with yours in a searing kiss. You truly felt like you could never get used to kissing Jisung, a child of the Sun, someone with the very heart of a mountain inside him. In between kisses, he murmured seemingly absentmindedly, “My princess...”
You smiled against his lips, indulging in one, two more sweltering kisses before you mumbled back, “My dragon.”

Jisoo’s relationship with the dreamies!
Tumblr media
[For context, I switched up the grad system a little bit because I wanted Jisoo to graduate with Mark but I also wanted her to be born the same day as Jaemin. So I changed it to Jisoo and Mark both becoming the leaders and instead of them graduating based off age, they graduated based off of their leader position. So when Mark and Jisoo left, Jeno got the leader position and they added Mark and Jisoo back before he could graduate]
Tumblr media
MARKSOO! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
One out of the three protectors
Mark entered kindergarten a little later which led him to meet Jisoo! Jisoo and Mark were assigned seating buddies and ever since that day they’ve been inseparable. When Jisoo planned to go back to Korea to audition for SME, Mark begged his mom to go so he can keep her company, not knowing he’d later be debuting alongside Jisoo.
During SM ROOKIES Mark use to refer to Jisoo as Marcelle a lot as that’s the name she used while living in the states. Because of this a lot of people began to call them MarMar!
Mark and Jisoo usually communicate in English, which either leaves the other members confused or with more english knowledge in their head. Mark and Jisoo have a sibling relationship where they bicker a lot, with Jisoo calling him stupid and Mark calling her annoying, but at the end of the day they love each other.
Sometimes when Mark says or does something weird Jisoo will just stare at him for awhile, say “um?” or “ok?” and give him a nasty face and walk away and for some reason it makes Mark laugh. OR sometimes she’ll tease him for it
when Mark was talking about Jisoo’s brother and he referred to him as “da bro” Jisoo would not stop teasing him about it for like a week
as a way to tease her, he mimicks her sometimes like her hand gestures or voice
sometimes when they fight, it’s ALWAYS in english and they’ll keep talking over each other and get really loud and the members will just look at them like they’re CRAZY
Along with this Jisoo tends to correct a lot of the stuff Mark says, like if he messes up on a word or stumbles she immediately elaborates on what he’s saying to help him out
Mark loves giving her hugs and making her do aegyo, while Jisoo loves pushing him away and playing with his hands when she’s bored.
Dreamzens favorite Marksoo Moment: 210515 Vlive
After coming back with hot sauce, Mark and Jisoo decided to go live in honor of their return to the group. throughout the live they answer questions read by Mark and to Jisoo everything seems normal until she reads the comments. she reads comments such as:
“THE WAY MARK IS LOOKING AT HER😍”
“Mark really missed Jisoo huh.. 😭”
“God, you’d think Mark is in love”
Jisoo, confused, then looks up at Mark and sees him staring at her with this huge smile while his hand is behind her head, running his fingers through her hair.
“What? I’ve missed you Jisoo” and gives her the tightest squeeze he’s ever gave her since the day they graduated from dream.
Tumblr media
RENSOO! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
Renjun was actually a student of Jisoo’s father when he taught Korean in China. Because of this, Renjun seemed to know a lot about Jisoo before meeting her and even had seen some of her pre debut photos that she didn’t even know existed.
After listening to a lot of kpop as a kid and even listening to the music of Jisoo’s group, he wanted to become an idol, and was advised to by Jisoo’s dad after talking to him.
Since then it became his mission to join the same company as her and be able to meet her at least once.
When Renjun first met Jisoo he was very nervous but the first thing he said to her was, “I hope we become good friends!” and since that day Jisoo knew he had a good spirit.
Not that the other boys are dumb, but sometimes they tend to lack common sense, but Renjun and Jisoo make up for it.
FOR EXAMPLE! When the dreamies went to the states together, they were challenged by the staff to navigate their way through the city by themselves, the other boys were upset because they weren’t sure how they were gonna do it but then Renjun and Jisoo looked at each other like “we have phones???? with maps????”
Everyone knows all the dreamies go crazy over Renjun, but Renjun tends to go crazy for Jisung and Jisoo.
“so pretty!!”
“one more shot! one more shot!”
are some of the things Jisoo’s personal photographer Renjun says.
Jisoo thanks him by taking him out to dinner later, don’t worry.
basically common sense besties but Renjun tends to drool over her sometimes…
Dreamzens favorite Rensoo Moment: Haunted House
“I’m not scared” Jisoo scoffs at the boys while turning around and hiding her scared face.
“Okay so go in there and protect me.. since you’re not scared.” Renjun grabs Jisoo so she’s looking right at him
“Heh.. okay.. sure!” Jisoo smiles and links arms with Renjun before walking into the haunted house.
Immediately they were met with some sort of zombie looking thing which makes Jisoo and Renjun jump and he hides behind her and his grip on hee grows tighter.
In her head Jisoo’s thinking they’ll be fine.. just as long as this haunted house has no clowns.
They’re met with a room of clowns and Jisoo basically jumps and makes Renjun go in front while Jisoo is now the one clinging onto him.
“Hey! Atleast now you can say you were my knight in shining armor” Jisoo shrugs.
Tumblr media
JENSOO! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
Second out of the three protectors!
When Jisoo met Jeno she was slightly intimidated.. except when he wore his glasses, she thought he looked like a dork.
Jeno admitted that he loves cats and has three of his own at home, from then Jisoo was like hmmm maybe he’s not that bad??
It wasn’t until he revealed to Jisoo that he had three cats and was a cat lover while being allergic! What a sweetheart.
Although, it took that piece of information for him to get on Jisoo’s good side, Jisoo says that if she were to meet Jeno for the first time during Boom or Ridin Era, she would’ve most definitely been scared of him, but she loves how he looks intimidating on the outside, but is truly a softie on the inside.
Jisoo DESPISED working out as she never enjoyed doing it and she was horrible at being consistent.
Jeno was the person who was able to make working out fun for her due to his personality and good teaching ability.
Jeno and Jisoo are both known to be homebodies, and to help each other out with it, they randomly make plans to go out and spend some time outside.
Although, sometimes they wanna stay home and be alone so the plans never go through…
Dreamzens Favorite Jensoo Moment: Gym Vlog
“Hey czennies! Jeno and I are about to hit the gym because he wants to look better for the fans for the dream show 2, I’m just bored so i’m coming.”
Jisoo and Jeno went to the buildings private gym and they were greeted by other artists and staff.
Jisoo whispered to Jeno, “I hope I don’t embarrass myself..” and Jeno had to reassure her for a good 5 minutes as he knew that Jisoo found doing anything under the sun, embarrassing. (for some reason)
The vlog started with Jeno explaining his workout routine, and demonstrating all the things he does, after that he slowly guides Jisoo to do the same, then when she gets the hang of it, they do it together.
After an hour of working out, Jeno and Jisoo sit down and begin talking to the camera about their plans for the year.
During this Jisoo yawns and starts to sleep, slowly falling into Jeno’s lap.
Jeno looked down at her and smiled
“Looks like someone’s about to take a power nap. Czennies! Make sure to keep an eye on Jisoo while she’s asleep.”
Tumblr media
HYUCKSOO! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
Her literal babygirl.
Also Her boyfriend. Unfortunately.
Kidding lol.
A protector, but more in a boyfriend way??? If that makes sense??
roommates (plus sung) as rookies
Haechan has always been in love with Jisoo, since the day they’ve met, but Jisoo didn’t start to notice her feelings for him until she realized how she started to feel empty without his presence after leaving dream.
After Jisoo left dream, Jisoo and Haechan made sure to hang out all the time, and when they couldn’t, they’d play games together or FaceTime for hours.
It took Jisoo awhile to sort out her feelings for him, but when Haechan and Jisoo planned to meet up after awhile because they both had back to back schedules and were both touring with their respective groups,
Jisoo felt this urge to dress up and put on what felt like all the makeup in the world just impress him. (which he felt impressed by her just breathing)
But it’s just Haechan..
The same Haechan who she grew up and trained with, the same dude who saw her fresh out of bed, hair all messed up and everything.
Oh she was in love.
That plus Chenle knew how she felt considering she’d always complain to the groupchat with him and jisung about how much she missed and wanted to see Haechan, so he was able to help her figure out that she was head over heels for this man.
Jisoo and Haechan confessed to each other in October of 2021, but Jisoo didn’t feel ready for a relationship so they didn’t go for it right away.
On January 23rd, 2022, Haechan sent her a message saying
“I need you.”
“What..?”
“Jisoo, just come to my dorm, I need you.”
Jisoo did what he said and Haechan immediately kissed her the second he saw her.
That day marks the day their relationship started!
Haechan was already clingy as it is, but as they started dating he became even worse. During glitch mode promotions, the members found out about their relationship and later the staff because of how obvious they were.
Haechan and Jisoo were nervous, but the staff just said that they should reveal their relationship, because its super evident at this point.
A funny thing about their relationship is that the fans of nct dream we’re so use to Haechan being clingy that they didn’t suspect a thing, they just thought he was acting the same way he did to Renjun.
So whenever anybody not a fan of dream would accuse them of being in a relationship, dreamzens were quick to shut them down.
Jisoo noticed these and felt bad so ultimately they made the decision to go public.
Haechan is a complete baby when he’s around her and he sometimes whines when he wants her attention, kind of weird but she puts up with it.
Haechan loves to give her back hugs, play with her hair, give her aegyo, stare at her, hear her voice, and the list goes on.
vice versa btw^^^
Dreamzens Favorite Hyucksoo Moment: 221113 Live
Jisoo and Haechan went on live for the first time, just the two of them, as a couple.
Jisoo and Haechan were at Jisoo’s apartment sitting on her bed while doing a live.
“Someone asked, Jisoo, can you give us some Haechan boyfriend secrets?”
Haechan looked at Jisoo and smiled
“Well are you gonna do it?” Haechan said
“Of course! gotta give the fans what they want.”
“Basically, before we debuted, we all had to share a dorm and the dorm had three rooms. Jisung and I shared a room with two beds, and when Chenle and Renjun joined, we decided to let them pick whichever room they wanted, Renjun wanted to be part of Mark, Haechan, and Jeno’s room so ultimately Haechan got kicked out and had to join Jisung and I. We had two beds and each night we’d take turns, so for example I would get the bed one night and then Jisung and Haechan would have to share the other bed. What I noticed about Haechan was that he slept with this long brown pillow and it would always be in the middle of us and he’d be hugging it all night. Once we started dating and he started spending almost every night here, he brought the brown pillow and I noticed that the brown pillow now sits at the top of my bed, and i’ve finally replaced it.” Jisoo then points to the brown pillow on the top of her bed, and Haechan quickly turns red and puts his head in her lap and sulks.
“you promised you wouldn’t tell anybody..”
Tumblr media
MINSOO! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
definitely a special bond
The third protector but also her twin
After Chenle, Jaemin is the one to always make her laugh because he’ll sometimes randomly blurt things out or just does weird things
Jisoo truly believes Jaemin was written by a woman.. or atleast she knows that he was raised right by his parents.
When Jaemin first talked to Jisoo, he talked to her with this soft and calming voice and he said to her “We share the same birthday, year and everything!!”
Jisoo smiled at him and said “we kind of look alike too!” and that was the day they became unofficial siblings.
Although they saw each other as siblings, His existence was still new to Jisoo and as she grew up with a slightly mean older brother, she wanted to test him to see if he would be mean to her or anything.
Jisoo asked Jaemin if he wanted to hangout with her, maybe go out to the park or the stor-
“We can bake muffins together!”
Bake Muffins? Jisoo was definitely not used to the boys from the states wanting to bake muffins..
So they did, they baked muffins.
Jisoo gets Jaemin hooked onto the latest trends and also on things she likes.
“You should definitely try getting a facial and then a massage after that..”
Jisoo also got Jaemin hooked onto cats so he got some of his own!
When they were trainees he would always walk with her when they went out just on a walk or going to the store to make sure she’s okay
Jaemin acts as if they’re twins. like literally.
Jisoo is known for being good at games, or having luck so they call it, so whenever the group has to get into teams, Jaemin always tries to convince Jisoo to let him join her by bringing up their birthday.
“Hey! We should be together on the same team like we were when we spent 9 months together in the woom!”
Dreamzens Favorite Minsoo Moment: Almost getting robbed
Jaemin and Jisoo were walking around trying to find a place to eat, they decided to go on instagram live during their journey.
As they were walking Jisoo could feel someone lurking behind them and her first instinct was to let Jaemin know.
“Jaemin, I think someone’s following us.”
Jaemin immediately pushed Jisoo in front of him and opened his arms.
“Where, Where”
The robbers then approach them and ask them for all their money, they weren’t a huge threat as they were two middle aged men with no weapons.
Jisoo then steps in front of Jaemin and says “We don’t have any money for you.. but how about I sing for you and he’ll rap. We’re aspiring musicians..”
Jaemin is about to burst of laughter before being hit in the chest by Jisoo.
Jisoo starts singing the chorus Hello Future and then right after Jaemin starts his rap right before the bridge.
The robbers look amused and then pulled out 25,000 won.
“Take this. and welcome to the music industry!” They walked off right after giving them both a tap on the back.
Tumblr media
CHENSOO! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
CRAZY when they’re together
Gossip sisters tbh
Chenle is the one member who literally can do anything and she’ll start laughing but not ever in a bad way.
But either way they’re both always laughing together and sending each other funny videos.
When Jisoo first met Chenle, she had recognized him because he was quite a star and he had a singing career in China.
It was easy for Jisoo to become friends with Chenle because he was talkative so she never had to worry about not having anything to talk about
She also had already became friends with the other 7 boys, so Chenle would be no problem.
On the first day they became friends She and Chenle had a 6 hour conversation.
Jisoo spoke to Chenle only in Chinese at first and during practice they sometimes speak in Chinese and laugh without letting any of the members know what they’re talking about.
Jisoo loves hanging out with Chenle and they tend to go over each others houses a lot.
Since Jisoo is an older sister to 3, she wants to protect Chenle (and Jisung) in the same way she does with her actual younger siblings.
Jisoo makes sure they eat and are happy and is always willing to do anything for them.
Simple things like letting them pick what they’re going to eat or where they wanna go.
Dreamzens Favorite Chensoo Moment: 220425 Live
Jisoo and Chenle were doing a random live while waiting for the rest of the members to arrive to their schedule.
“Yknow, last time we were here practicing, Jeno took off his shirt and when I saw his abs, I was like Wow!”
“Really? I don’t remember that” Jisoo says in reply to Chenle
“OH it happened alright, He has such nice biceps and I was feeling up on him and thinking to myself, it must be so nice to have his bo-“
Jisoo puts her hand over chenle’s mouth.
“Thats enough for this live, goodbye guys!!! Wave goodbye Chenle.”
Tumblr media
SOOSUNG/JIJI! ੈ♡‧₊˚ :
LOWKEY her soulmate
Special bond #2
A protector.. but on the down low
slightly moves her if she’s about to hit something, always makes sure she has a blanket to cover her legs, protects her image and gets nervous when she’s on stage if she has an outfit malfunction or just a malfunction in general, he always makes sure the staff is notified.
we ALL KNOW about how Jisoo and Jisung’s friendship came to be…
read here
and ever since they’ve became friends Jisoo has just wanted to be his protector and teach him things that he wasn’t able to learn since he debuted so young
She taught him how to do his laundry, how to PROPERLY wash fruits and veggies, how to take care of a pet, showed him some recipes, etc
Jisung feels inspired by Jisoo and he’s always looked up to her since she started her career.
At some point, she was the reason that he kept going.
Jisoo has a habit where when she’s embarrassed or shy she covers her mouth with her hand or she covers her face with her hands
Jisung somehow ended up developing that habit too
a cute thing that Jisung use to do when they were younger was hide inside of Jisoo’s jacket whenever he felt shy, he was able to do this because he was smaller than her, but now Jisung can’t fit in the jacket. Obviously.
Jisung and Jisoo spend hours talking to each other, just about life and how they’re doing. This started when they became roommates and both had trouble sleeping.
Jisoo is not afraid to admit that Jisung is her favorite member
Whenever they’re doing an interview, live, simple hang out, or wherever they are and Jisung can’t seem to stay still, Jisoo will tap his leg or will tell Jisung to calm down and stay still.
she SOMETIMES teases him about his deep voice and tries to recreate it like Chenle does but sometimes Jisung gets upset so she stops lol.
Jisoo use to talk about how she’s in love with Jisung and how he was her first love but she slowly stopped after getting into a relationship with Haechan.
Jisung hates skin ship but he’s okay with Jisoo’s since when they were young, Jisoo would hug him when he felt scared or anxious.
Dreamzens Favorite SooSung Moment: The Dating Show 210624
During the dreamies fake dating show, Jisoo messes around with Jisung by pretending he use to be her ex.
All of the members walk in one by one, introducing themselves and Jisoo is the last to arrive.
Jisoo Gasps. “WHAT? Nobody told me my ex boyfriend would be here??” and she points to Jisung.
“Me?” Jisung points to himself.
“Yes You! you probably stalked me and found out I was entering this show so you could win me back.”
Jisung chuckles while shaking his head
“You’re cute Jisoo.. but weird.”
Throughout the content, Jisung ends up playing along but as he does Jisoo begins to make him “jealous” by flirting with the other members.
In the end, Jisoo ends up picking Jisung as the one she wants, but Jisung betrays her by picking Jaemin.
“See Jisung this is why I broke up with you.”

When It Comes To Us
Tumblr media
⟿ college!au, friends to academic rivals to lovers, competition, mutual pining, study buddies.
summary: although he laughed at you the first time you met, you were instantly friends, but that five year law program brings out competition, brings out the worst in you. thankfully it takes maybe one or two study sessions to get back into a grove, and maybe one of those study sessions is less about studying.
includes … unprotected sex/pulling out, oral sex (f / m receiving), facial, fingering, hickeys/marking, penetration, missionary sex, dom/sub undertones (re: some slight begging); it’s pretty vanilla sex, sorry.
author’s note ... this is the old fic that I mentioned when I said that the debate episode renjun reminded me of a specific old fic. I also edited to be slightly longer and more cohesive. the formatting was bad on the last one, so i reuploaded it a third time. DO NOT come into my inbox to criticize my fic or tell me that it is written badly.
anger management problems renjun enthusiasts, dni.

You wander around just outside the student experience center, nose buried beneath a campus map, eyes glued to a poorly drawn sharpie trail that one of the “orientation leaders” (air quotes because he seemed as equally lost and inexperienced as you) traced. The library has to be here somewhere, you wonder before glancing up.
But the moment your vision changed scenery, you walk right into a cement column, forehead colliding first with the inconveniently placed architecture, making you stumble ass forward to the ground. As you rub the new, hot mark above your brow, praying to God that no one saw anything, a sirenic laugh calls your ear, soft and throaty – something to make you fall in love at first listen. You peak around the empty space, gaze coming into a playful glare then pout when you spot someone laughing at your misfortune.
He walks over to you with nothing helpful, like an ice pack or magic band aid, except a hand to help you up, but his smile looks like it could heal the deepest wounds, and you immediately assume he came from the science department.
“Hey,” he greets, a small smile tugging his lips and even smaller bow dipping him right below your eyeline. “I’m Renjun. Are you also lost?”
The pain recedes quickly, quicker than you anticipated, letting your stomach fill the silence with little pokes through your abdomen to chest. Hopefully, walking into cement did not leave weird texture along your hairline for this really cute boy to spot; otherwise, God, you might as well perish on the spot.
His half-circle eyes crescent upward with the apples of his cheeks, and future you will swear that you met at night, despite (future) his better recount of this meet-cute taking place during the bright, autumn day – either way, Renjun’s happy features ground you, making focus on everything he has to say, to offer.
“Wait a minute.” You pull your hand out of his, holding up your palm, and you miss the way his eyes briefly follow your motions. “Too?” Your eyebrows come together; head tilted slightly to the right, searching his eyes. “Why? You’re also lost?”
“Yeah,” he nods, biting his lip. You nod back at him, still searching; you don’t feel your smile lose its curve until Renjun pushes his bottom lip through his teeth with his tongue, licking the seam open. “I, um, I was looking for the financial aid office but my RA [resident assistant] directed me toward the library.”
“Oh, thank God,” you nearly moan, reattaching yourself to his thin bicep, like he touched you with The Hand of God. Confusion takes its turn on Renjun’s face, his head flexed to the side again like deepening a kiss with Eris, neat brows coming together over his pretty eyes, so you snap your hands away. “Sorry, I just meant that I’m looking for the library,” you clarify. “One of the orientation leaders handed me a map, then set me off to the second star on the right without further instruction. I’ve been lost for, like, -“ You push your sleeve up your arm, reading your bare wrist, again missing Renjun’s smile. “– 10 minutes, maybe.”
“Well, it’s just around the corner in that direction.” He points behind his shoulder. “Go straight until you see the gymnasium, take a left by the counselling offices, then a right at the education building, and it should be in front of the pharmacy department.” Renjun tries directing you physically, pointing his index finger this way and that, as if touching the map still in your hand. Once he turns back to you, an accomplished smile finishing his thought, you are in the middle of nodding again, mouth falling open, only to inhale. “Or,” he drags out, internally debating for a second as your body perks up, “I could show you where it is.”
You beam at him. “Please? Will you? That would be … amazing, and really helpful.” You sigh, teeth fighting their way to the front. “To be honest, I’m not the best with directions and stuff.”
“It’s not a problem,” he tells you, honestly, his voice partially going up. He gestures out to the path, asking if you are ready.
You surprise him by taking his arm again, curling your hand to his wrist. “Lead the way, Peter Pan.”
“Peter Pan?”
Renjun tilts his head again, not moving despite initiating the journey. He bites his lip again, and he would shrink into his narrow shoulders, but you keep him propped up. Then, you mimic him, subconsciously taking a step back when he makes eye contact.
“Um,” you stutter, swallowing the thousands of thoughts on the tip of your tongue, not knowing where to start, so you pick the middle: “Second star to the right, and all; you did say right … right?” You cringe a little at the syllable repetition, but it makes him throw his head back and laugh, so the warm tinge across your face subsides until completely disappearing when he leads the way. “So …” you say, a little too loudly, abruptly changing the topic.
“So?” he parrots, guiding you onto the inner sidewalk, closer to the buildings, farther from the street.
“So,” you repeat, equal in cadence, bobbing in tune as you drag out the conjunction, not looking at him in fear that your brain might bombard you with a thousand thoughts again – either this can lead to a wonderful friendship or blossom into something more … which makes you kind of nervous, if you were being honest, except you don’t want to be presumptuous. You just met the guy two minutes ago. “How, um, how long have you been going here?”
“Ah,” he responds, open mouthed. His free arm flies behind his head, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s my first semester. I’m a freshman.”
“Oh … but you seem to know, at least part of, the school really well.” You bite inside the corner of your cheek.
“Yeah, my parents moved me into the dorms last weekend, so I had a lot of time to, like, roam around and find out where my classes are going to be on Wednesday, but I’ve literally been looking all over half the campus for the financial aid office today.”
“Huh,” you mumble, a slow eureka. “Maybe, after this, if you’re able to wait, I can show you where the financial aid office is. It’s like right next to my dorm building on the other side of campus. I just have to check out a textbook for property law.”
Renjun beams at you now. “I’d like that a lot.” And he’d like to spend more time with you.

Haechan calls your full name – Funny, since you’ve only heard him referred to by his real name a handful of times, but now, with the alcoholic flush heating your face under the wintery night sky, you cannot, for the life of you, remember his government name. Renjun mentioned it to you once or twice, between ranting about something Haechan did, before he brought you into his friend group a couple weeks ago. He had been meaning to merge you with them, ever since Jeno got a small break from his military service for Chuseok weekend, but things piled up, no one actually free until the second half of autumn term. Jaemin barely got a break from his o chem lab reports; Haechan is taking a small breather between pre-trial motion write ups; Renjun left the library for the first time in, essentially, a week; Chaewon just finished her art project this morning and woke up literally fifteen minutes before arriving at the restaurant; you only finished creating flash cards for property law (those vocab words are going to get you one of these days); and the military doesn’t really let Jeno out on holiday, as it would defeat the purpose of compulsory military service (on the bright side, he won’t have to take a break from school or work like the others; although, Jaemin plans to use his [future] medical degree to his advantage).
You whip your hair around, the inches that have grown since summer almost hitting Jeno in the face, so you lean a bit more into Renjun, who has a slightly buff arm strewn along the back of your chair as you change conversations from one end of the table to the next, the two of you sitting in the middle like Jesus at The Last Supper – which might as well predict your relationship status, almost as if Renjun wants to test you, but you push the thought away. If he wanted to be something more, he would have done something by now; you have known him for, like, two months now, nearly approaching finals. You swear that you picked up on a few close calls, confiding in your roommate, a psych major Dahyun; except, she might be more excited to study your brain like a bug than really listen to the problem. But she did say that this – the two of you going out with his friends (Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, and Chaewon) could mean something.
And maybe it does.
When all five of you moved from the bar inside the restaurant to a longer table outside (Jeno kept complaining about the lack of leg room because people kept pushing against his chair on their ways to the bathroom; something no none, except maybe Jaemin related to, but eventually, everyone relented), Renjun walked through the door last, having led you, a hand on your mid-back, through the other patrons and busboys. He stopped you from accidentally catching the jacket around your arm on fire; you took it off because Jaemin started grilling one of the side dishes and the bottle of soju you started nursing with Renjun got to your face. It left some skin exposed, skin that he touched. You didn’t have time to analyze him really, a waiter dropping off a complimentary alcohol mix for the discomfort, not like now when Haechan gives you an excuse to check him out.
“Really,” Haechan begs, “why’d you stick to him?” He points a thumb at Renjun, and Renjun takes immediate offense but does nothing other than verbally object, his chest sighing weakly. Haechan flops his wrist, wanting your answer more than to argue – a rare event, considering that half the table is enrolled in the law programme.
“I don’t know,” you answer immediately, mostly as a filler word while you size him up. Over the semester, Renjun started training with Jeno and Jaemin (and Xiaojun from the poli sci department), gradually replacing his daily water intake with whey protein powder. His body has gotten … bigger, noticeably bigger; his shoulders filling out the grey, cashmere sweater, muscles faintly contouring down in bulges to the thin watch on his left wrist. You eventually reach his face again, briefly pausing at his clear jawline, and he raises an eyebrow before knocking back another shot, daring you to say the thought so clearly reflected in your eyes. “I mean,” you start, shifting back to Haechan, who starts pouring your fourth round, as if seducing you into saying something provocative, “he was nice; he is nice. He picked me off the ground, literally, and –“ You throw back the shot. “– you know, we had – have a lot in common: similar taste in movies, same major, he even sang a line from this one OST I used to hear whenever my grandmother watched dramas.”
Haechan, hums, dispensing yours and Renjun’s fifth round and a fourth to everyone else.
“What about you?” Jeno garbles to Renjun, slowly laying his head on the table, Jaemin rubbing his back. “If I were – were you –” He hiccups and points at you. “– I would’ve left as soon as I even heard him laughing at me.”
“I guess I’m just nicer than you,” Renjun laughs, sitting slightly more forward. “Remember when we first met. I thought you were cold as ice.
Jeno pouts.
“And now,” Renjun clarifies, pushing the shots further down the table and grabbing a napkin. His free arm slides down your back for the second time tonight, heat radiating off his hand to your hip; his fingers twitch in the air, inches from your skin, and your breath stops in your chest. You shift a little closer to his belt, rocking left and right until you meet him, and he helps you, too, hand rising above your high-waisted skirt, pulling you closer. Then, he leaves his arm dangling there, elbow caught in the chair’s spine, fingers caging your hip. “Now, we’re best friends.”
You admire Renjun’s side profile as he talks behind your back with Jeno, reclining on the bench, you perched over the table to give him enough space. He smirks at something in the middle of the conversation, head nodding off center, falling even more into your body and continuing to stay there after, sans objection. All eyes eventually lead to Jaemin, when he starts pouring the sixth round, except yours. Yeah, you instinctively moved with the crowd, but Renjun’s lips caught your gaze, licking his mouth open wider for another laugh, shoulders following suit. Halfway through another weak objection (he is already pushing his shot glass to the end of the table before his sentence finishes), Renjun glances your way, lingering back and forth between you and Jaemin, who tends to overpour after two shots, until he stops, staying on your face. He reaches out the same hand that gave a glass to Jaemin, grabbing yours too, then mouths come here, finger curling close enough to make your skin tingle. Still, you comply, and he brushes a strand of hair behind your ear, matting down all the baby hairs floating away from how hot your face burns, knowing that, as a side effect of the law major, appearance is everything. Or maybe he just thinks you’re pretty.
“Oh, leave them alone,” Chaewon complains between drinks, groaning through her fifth and sixth shots. “I think they’re cute.” She wipes her mouth with her sleeve, and you are tempted to do the same, except to Renjun, a little like returning the favor, even though he wiped the pretzel crumbs from the corner of his mouth already. “Besides, their meet-cute is better than spilling that disgusting demon coffee on a stranger at eight o’clock in the morning.” She narrows her eye sat Haechan.
“That was for him!” He points at Jaemin, nearly banging on the table, much to Jeno’s annoyance. “And it will be the last time I ever buy coffee for you!”
“How are you going to repay me for the kimbap I bring you after literature on Thursdays?!”
“You get it from the dining hall!”
“Yeah, on my meal plan!”
“Please, okay! It’s literally ₩3,000!”
“Should we get kimbap?” you hum, leaning into Renjun’s hand, further from the three-person argument.
He trails his fingers under your chin, tickling you until he laughs when you slap him away; he drops his hand on his jeans, rubbing his thigh wider into his seat. You tilt your head to the door into the restaurant, eyes fluttering at your suggestion, pouting. Renjun copies, lips tightened into a contemplative melody. He sighs, stomach growling in agreement. The last time either of you ate was after your 10AMs, barely catching a quick snack from the café in the biochem building, because you had been promised the alleged best samgyeopsal marinated in red wine.
“If our food doesn’t arrive in –“ Renjun pushes his long sleeve far up his forearm, shaking his watch into view. Your tongue salivates. “– 10 minutes, I’ll buy you dinner at Gen.”
It comes by in four.

[Renjun, 3:23 PM]
Renjun time!
[Renjun, 3:23 PM]
Study session at mine tonight?
[You, 3:24 PM]
Yeah, I’m going to finish scanning this civics passage in the library, then head to Starbucks for coffee, but I should be free the rest of the day. Civil procedure got cancelled. Want anything?
[Renjun, 3:25 PM]
Grande mango black tea, light ice, please and thank you. Do you need help studying? Prof Choi will probably give a pop quiz in your next meeting.
[Renjun, 3:26 PM]
Oh, and a double bacon if there are any left. I have constitutional law in 5 btw.
[Renjun, 3:27 PM]
I’ll buy you dinner at Gen on Monday.
[You, 3:27 PM]
Please.
[You, 3:28 PM]
You keep saying that, but we have yet to actually go.
[You, 3:30 PM]
Sit in the back. I’ll sneak in.
Sneaking into Professor Moon’s constitutional law class, which has over a hundred students, is as easy as slipping into a routine with Renjun, if not easier, even after summer break. And this year, you actually have a class with him (!), not constitutional law, obviously, because you took it last year, but legal writing. Ironically, your classes overlap with his – e.g. you took constitutional law spring term, he takes it now; he took civic practices winter term, you take it now. Basic classes, the ones that only go over the law, not how to interpret it, don’t really function like maths classes; they don’t build off each other, just accumulate knowledge, so you and Renjun (and Haechan and Chaewon) will spend the first two years learning the general idea, figure out what specialty you eventually want to pursue, then argue during the last three – which means that, in the long run, you essentially invest in having more time with Renjun … not that he isn’t already attached to your hip. Plus, you can cheat off each other’s notes.
Ice shaking alerts Renjun to your presence before a syllable from your greeting can reach his ear. You slowly drag the chair beside him on the carpet, no loud sounds alerting the professor to your existence (thank God), and set everything down next to him.
“Thanks,” he whispers, sipping the iced tea like every other student in the room does with coffee.
You lean over his arm, simultaneously giving him the sandwich and stealing a pale-yellow highlighter. “No problem.”
Renjun trails your hand, watching you set up to study civic practices on your iPad, completely missing his professor’s plan for today’s class. His smile twitches on the corners of his cheeks. He remembers doing that last year: studying activists who used pamphlets to declare independence from some distant sovereign, and admiring your side profile. The way you ignore him, too focused on Common Sense, let him stare a bit longer, without you making a face to stop him. Some rose-pink color outlines your lips today, a few patches missing in the middle. He asked you, this morning, while catching an early morning bibimbap, why you actually dressed up for civic practices, because no one took Prof Kwon’s dress code seriously. You said something about wanting to get an internship with him for your practicum in two years, and he wasn’t aware that you had started planning that far ahead.
“Pay attention to this next part. It will be an essay question on the next exam.”
Renjun glances at the projector. Justiciability. He has no idea what it means (well, he has some; he vaguely recognizes the abstract concept), so he starts paying attention. But throughout the lecture, he slips his elbow onto the table, resting his cheek over his hand, preoccupied by your distracting pen taps, as Professor Moon sets up clicker questions after each section. He tries to stay focused, adding any random thought to the corner of his OneNote … until he ends up doodling your name; it began as writing something you mentioned in passing last year and didn’t stop … you look so cute right now … if you use all my yellow highlighter, we’re going to the pen shop later … you, you, you. He erases all the evidence though, seconds after he makes it, not wanting to incriminate himself, even outside the law, before he becomes a lawyer.
After the lecture wraps up, you and Renjun walk to the library, partway through campus, iced drinks in hand, catching up on your lives despite having seen each other every day. Surprisingly, you always have a new thing to say, new opinion about whatever you saw, and Renjun always has a rebuttal.
“Oh!” You pull off your straw once he finishes recounting his point of view on Moon’s theoretical federal case. Renjun flutters his eyes up, ducking down to slurp the last of his tea. “Did you hear? Jeno is starting the architecture programme spring term after he discharges.”
“Yeah,” Renjun hums, breaking off his empty drink. Jeno called him about it last night. “I think Haechan is going to see if the housing department will let them room together since there’s an empty bed in his suite.” You nod slowly, contemplative, and Renjun opens his mouth again, to ask you the question he has been pondering since Jeno even brought up living on campus.
Speaking of the devil (well, one of them), Haechan accidentally happens on the two of you, rounding a corner from the psych department. He launches his arms around your shoulders, swinging his legs between you and Renjun, making you both dip down and yelp.
“God, I share more classes with Renjun than you, yet I don’t see him nearly as much.” Haechan lands in front of you, bouncing backwards a few steps to balance himself.
Renjun verbally objects; he saw Haechan yesterday for dinner, so this makes the fifth day in a row, plus they have a grocery store date tomorrow morning; he ran out of satay hotpot soup base after you helped him complete his first draft for legal writing. He flitters a grateful eye when you massage his shoulder. You squeeze his bicep three times, returning the blood flow to his face, and he mumbles a small thank you, with an even smaller smile, before glaring at the intruder.
“It’s almost like you live together,” Haechan shrugs, tucking in his elbows and wriggling between you two.
You giggle when Renjun sighs, his shoulders dropping as his chin tilts to the sky.
“I mean, I was considering it.”
“You were what!?”
Renjun raises an eyebrow, walking slightly ahead of Haechan to see you, and you return it, frowning deeply.
“You never told me that,” you grumble, falling behind Haechan, who copies the both of you, frowning like he did something wrong.
“I mean,” Renjun starts, “Yeah, of course, I’ve thought about it. We’re practically together all the time, like he –“ Renjun points a thumb at Haechan, pausing to glare, then softens back at you. “– mentioned. You have enough stuff in my dorm to live there for a month, anyways, and we’ve had sleepovers before, so –“ He shrugs. “– why not?”
Renjun may not have started planning his fourth-year practicum like you, but he has been thinking about the future, about asking you to move into an apartment with him before the school year ends.

It takes just slightly over two weeks (16 days) to finalize a pros and cons list for living with Renjun. You don’t say a word to anyone about, nearly neglecting your actual studies and opinion papers to really determine if you could do it. Halfway through the pros column, you considered asking your current roommate, a psych major named Dahyun, for help – to see whether you ignore the red flags, or to diagnose with the first thing that snaps you out of this boy craze, but you shook your head and continued writing. So far, the list has more pros than cons, as you expected; Renjun is basically perfect – decent cook (or take-out order…er); clean, physically and environmentally; quiet when important; cooperative; gets along with you; etc. The only con is … is … well, you get along with him too well, so you keep the list to yourself, not wanting that information, specifically, to be leaked. You even cross out the one con with a sharpie and expo marker, ripping it into the shredder before anyone could interpret it.
But Chaewon inevitably heads to your dorm for an extra shirt when Haechan spills yet another demon coffee on her (before 8 AM this time).
She walks out of your private bathroom, wearing an oversized sweater, dabbing a Tide pen into her pale pink shirt, trying to revive it before criminal law.
“Oh, I hate them,” she enunciates about Haechan and Jaemin for the fifth time this week alone (and it’s Thursday). She puts the pen back in your desk draw and blows on the wet patch, trying to get it ready for class, but you saw the black water stain her shirt irrevocably, even from the closet, where you pull out a blazer to go over the plain white pyjama shirt you stole from Renjun. “Oh? What’s this?”
“What’s what?” you ask while sliding your arms through the sleeves. You yank your hair from the back, fluffing it before walking up to her, tiptoeing above her shoulder as she pulls a colorful, small spiral notebook from your drawer.
“Reasons to live with Renjun,” she reads.
Your eyes widen, and you snatch it from her, holding it close to your chest.
“Reasons not to live with Renjun?” She reads the back.
You push her out of the way and shove it back in your drawer, slamming it shut rather loudly.
“You’re going to  … move in … with him?” she asks slowly, lowering her head gradually, her voice unusually soft.
You hug your arms around your waist, hands gripping the waistband on your trousers, and study her expression, your own eyebrows furrowing deeply. She brings her hands together, thumbnail clawing at the cuticles on her opposite fingers.
“Yes,” you nod, equally quiet and long. You stand up straighter, tucking your hair behind both ears a few times before opening your desk drawer to organize it; no use in hiding the list now that Chaewon knows and wants to address it. “I was just thinking about it.”
“Are you … Are you sure it’s a good idea?” She puts a hand on your upper arm, and your muscles tighten, everything temporarily paused until the single highlighter you hold starts shaking; you start shaking. Once you inhale twice more, no air expelling until your lungs finally reach max capacity, you turn towards Chaewon. Her hand drops into yours, squeezing it gently. You want to assuage her misplaced guilt, possibly about finding your notebook and involuntarily demanding to know the reason you might move in with Renjun – because the roommate agreement has yet to be written into stone.
But you shrug, rattling her off of you. “Yeah, we’re practically together all the time, and we have stuff at each other’s places.” You pause, recoiling, physically cringing at reusing Renjun’s reasoning.
“What are you going to do when he goes on a date?”
You frown. “Renjun doesn’t date.”
Chaewon raises an eyebrow, her palms weakly slapping her thighs, the sound resonating too loudly in the silence. Your ears ring, like the aftermath of a bomb, and you go back to studying her face, maybe also too long. You tilt your head to the side, something in your chest piling on an extra ton that leans your body to the left.
“I mean, I’ve never seen him go on a date, and I’ve known him for more than two years now.”
Chaewon bites her lip and moves her hands behind her back.
Your shoulders hunch forward. “Oh.”
“I’m sorry,” she says, mostly to the floor. “I thought you knew.”
“No,” you reject, a little forcefully, and she winces. “No, it’s …” you repeat gentler, matching her expression, “It’s my fault for assuming.” You throw your hands low in the air, hands slapping against your thighs, but not as strong since her implications weigh your body down. “Of course, he dates. I just … I just thought …”
Chaewon reaches an arm out again, grabbing your forearm first for your attention, then your hand, squeezing it again, in the same capacity, although now you know what she knows. She evidently knew what you thought, but her breath had to spell out what she knew. You try slinking into yourself, elbows tucking backwards, until she hugs you, accidentally tripping over her feet. It doesn’t make you laugh.
“I just … thought he was too busy, you know,” you lie, obviously too, by the way your nose starts to itch, “like me,” you whisper, finally accepting her embrace, adding your arms around her waist and your chin into her shoulder.
Chaewon pats your hair. “I know.”
But does he?
Tumblr media
“Are you even listening to me?”
“I told you already that I didn’t have the time to study with you today. I’m still behind on my second draft for legal writing, and I can’t afford to drop below in the rankings again.”
“Then why did you even come!?”
You purse your lips. Renjun should know, at this point, why you hang out in his single person dorm, oscillating between listening to his overactive imagination about the different animal combinations his brain dreams up and walking to the convenience store near the physics building 160 meters away. He should know why you help each other with the classes you’ve already taken, help him compete against Seungmin in his constitutional law, help him technically get a better grade than you ever did (despite academic standing relying on your literal standing in class among more than 50 people). Regardless, he still looks at you as if meeting you for the first time; or, not meeting you because, when he actually did, he had a smile on his face and laughter on his shoulders; now, he just gives you an uncharacteristic head shake, questions spilling from his tight lips. You grip the page of your notebook that you had been writing on, it standing partway up, then turn it; you accidentally use too much strength and rip the perforations, which makes a hot, deep sigh leave your diaphragm.
It has been almost three weeks (three weeks and two days), since you told Renjun that you cannot move in with him. You initially avoided him, like the plague, lying that you cannot be on top of everything. Well, partially lying. Your classes got harder – more pop quizzes, more mini-essays and discussion posts, more commitment; how he manages to retain information so easily, you will be forever jealous, but it also means that you have to sacrifice your 10 PM philosophical talks to get work done. You l… you lo… You enjoy his company, you really do, but being with him takes an extra 0.5x the effort, slowing down your typed average words per minute until you just stop writing, because he needs you to explain a concept. And you don’t mean to nag; it goes vice versa – it takes him an extra 90 minutes to complete his flashcards when you ask about Enlightenment ideas or to translate his annotations to something you understand. You just … don’t know how to accommodate for his follow up questions, for actually being with him, for all your lies falling through, and it makes your heart drop; if you can’t even improvise with Renjun, how will you be a lawyer?
By telling the truth?
You sigh. “Renjun …” He looks at you expectantly, on the tips of his toes, despite sitting half a table away, on the opposite side of his desk, creating the distance you only speak. “I …” you start, heart never having recovered from that meeting with Chaewon, “I’ve just been busy with school.” His entire chest deflates. “You have too,” you reinforce – partially because it’s true, and a half-truth is better than a lie; it is an omission of the whole picture, which is something arguable in court.
And something he regurgitates to you the next weekend.
You follow up the same thing the next day.
Another month passes, the end of fall term, and saw Renjun maybe three times, at least one of them being in class when he sat next to you, backpack sliding between his legs like a kicked puppy, his eyes, also, somehow mimicking a baby. You nearly cave, turn to him with an open mouth, but he packs his bag and leaves before the professor announces the assignment. It is written in the syllabus anyways.
Spring term comes faster than winter term ends, and you have literally no idea what happened.
Everything stays the same: the grass still retains dew outside the agriculture building; the biochem café still wakes up at dawn; hell, even Haechan manages to spill coffee on Chaewon again, not that you see them so often anymore. She stopped spontaneously dropping by your dorm (you live off campus now, still with Dahyun though), choosing her side like the other three – two if you count Jeno not being informed until three weeks into winter term. But you and Renjun no longer bear the conjoined rumors, whispers about your breakup swirling among the nosy grad students who assign your group projects. And the further you delve into the five-year law program, the smaller the class sizes get, meaning that you eventually circle back to Renjun’s side, just adding the distance he created in his dorm two terms ago. Again, everything stays the same.
Dahyun, your psych major roommate, argued that the competitive school system sets you up to hate each other, and you fell into its scheme (you asked what her major’s scheme was, and she said depression; you refrained from asking anymore questions), inevitably hating Renjun. However, her social psych class did not account for all the sparing matches, during Socratic debates, during the extraneous study sessions set up by the TA Qian Kun, during … every student event really. It never ends because neither of you allow each other to have the last word, to give a final argument, as if holding an arsenal back, waiting to drop the atomic bomb at the perfect moment. It feels like holding the weight of the world, weight of a secret, on your shoulders, and you confessed this, drunk, to Dahyun every night through the end of the year. She tried to offer you more advice, more perspective, adding a shrug here or there to lessen the hostility while still telling you the truth, but you continued to dive further into defensive mode, even when she pointed out that it could be your professors’ faults, posing public rankings rather than private grades, forcing you and Renjun into survival mode to come out on top, if not top three (Seungmin, too, eventually revealed himself as your uncovered nemesis).
All those study dates spent getting to know each other for naught, escalating into passive aggressive battles through your individual essays. If the TAs put your assignment next to Renjun’s, it would read “re:fuck this guy” back and forth despite arguing the same position, just using different reasons. Then, wars break out in the form of debates, the both of you misplacing your anger onto each other (from the rankings, and innocent bystander Seungmin who really wants to work for the international diplomacy office). He would lose his spot at number one in torts, a class you took freshman year; you often did minor corrections, like spelling for him; and you would receive your research papers drowned in red ink, distorting your muddled point without Renjun to move around the sentences for cohesion; he is … was the only one who followed your rapid thought process, almost on the exact same wavelength. Eventually, you two grew better without each other, forcing yourselves to use the student resources like the writing center or your actual professors, and you were happy, elated, that he improved on legal literacy, as he was happy, elated, that you understood social policy on your own, but fuck, it hurt like hell to see each other’s names drop, losing first place when you tried so hard to make it work, even more when one of your friends’s stupidly endearing smile attempted to console you, saying that “rankings do not matter”, even though they clearly do.
Oh, you two saw each other as frequently as freshman year, nothing changing drastically except what kind of feelings you had for each other, occasionally bumping into one another on the street – you caught Renjun slipping on a puddle once and helped him up after laughing at him, only to receive a glare; he also caught you tripping up the stairs in the language department, dropping your tea a flight below. Everything stayed the same, and it felt the same, in those briefest moments, but no longer did the flirting mask the tutoring; no longer did the glances feel heart-stricken, just rallying frustration back and forth, when you think the other isn’t looking, like a trick shot; no longer can you “accidentally” bump elbows in his dorm to look at a textbook that you rented together to save on money.
Unfortunately, you find yourself in Renjun’s legal ethics class winter term of your third year, and truthfully, it functions more like a psychotherapy group meeting than anything else. You swear, every class, that your old professor can read your mind, can see your tiny glimpses at Renjun from the back of the lecture hall, and purposefully relates each module to your lives.
“You cannot equate legal ethics with business ethics!” Renjun argues, voice echoing off the amphitheater, surround-sound encasing all 19 people to accommodate for the 150-max capacity. “Business ethics are not always a matter of law,” he furthers, seeing your ears burn steam, all openness flying out the window. He does not miss the irony, something about the passion for you manifesting in different forms, maybe, if he let himself sit with the thought for long, but he distracts himself with the lecture, using all of his brain, and half of his fragile glass heart, to make a plausible argument that you cannot refute easily. “Yes,” he seethes, “legal ethics might determine what is acceptable, like a morality blueprint, but business ethics do not always have to adhere to the law!”
“Pertain,” you hastily correct, nearly spitting across the fishbowl setting that your professor had everyone arrange from the desks. You almost stand up, to nitpick at his argument, at his choice of words, but restrain yourself; you have some decorum. “Business ethics always have to adhere to the law.” Your voice hitches for a moment, an insult (dummy, idiot, clotpole) scratching its heels on your lips before it can fully pass into audio.
Renjun, though, unfortunately, sees the taunting term of endearment (of irritation). His smirk begs you say it, his tongue licking the seam of his lips open to prod you more, but Socratic seminars have a direct impact on his grade and ranking. He cannot afford to be thrown out of class again for getting too heated in debate.
“If we cannot equate business ethics and law ethics, then do out laws not reflect morality, the moral compass? Do our laws lack in some sense that alleviates business workers from punishment, puts them above the law?” you further, chest rising instead of your legs, asking him impossibly ambiguous questions to which you know that he does not have the answer. He could ask the theoretical judge (your professor) for an objection, but there is no witness testimony, so he would remain invalid unless he can bring a valid philosophical response. “Business ethics have arbitrary rules that would otherwise not hold in a court of law, so how can we determine the validity of their rules?”
You nearly forget about everyone else in the class, spotlight effect enhancing only Renjun Huang; you swear that you see the cogs turning, at rapid pace, behind his exposed forehead, as you pile question after question, trying to undermine and tear apart his dispute on the basis of morals and ethics, as is the name of your fucking class.
His clench fists tell you exactly where you can shove those intangible questions, also succumbing into tunnel vision with only you at the end, as if you were the sole answer to your own insufferable questions, to the universe, to this god-awful class section that you decided to sign up for, simultaneously with him. According to Haechan, there has to be at least two other sections, although it would coincide with the comparative law class you also share with him and his technology and science law class. He and you are not the only ones in this programme, in this class, despite the numerous times neither of you have focused on anyone else; other than Seungmin, who has ethics Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 11 AM. Perhaps Renjun should have skipped the breather altogether, he thinks, then, you would still be talking to him … well, talking at him, given your disposition … not that he minds … he does somewhat agree with you, simply following the polar opposite because you do too.
Once Professor Jeong dismisses the lecture (after Renjun’s closing argument; you gave the opening argument), determining that both sides presented “enough” evidence for final ments, everyone begins cleaning up, putting the classroom back to the way it started. Only a few of you stay, out of the already few, including Renjun.
You turn to the front of the classroom, pushing the desks into a neat line. Seeing him, even after he essentially became your moral enemy, brings something forward, in you. The best or worst, you honestly cannot determine. Your grades, debates, fleeting relationships. All paled in comparison to what you had with Renjun, your nostalgia glasses tinted rose-gold. You cringe, physically, lips holding back vomit; you hope that your external shudder, too, only reflects the classroom’s 30-degree weather, not your melodramatic young adult life … or its absence. Maybe you have enough relationship experience, or maybe you need to get out more; maybe you need to think about what you actually had with Renjun, because – you look at him now, his thumbs typing fast enough on his phone to get carpal tunnel syndrome – this certainly did not end up being one.
Tumblr media
Oppositely, Renjun, himself, cannot place the exact moment your relationship went downhill. Of course, he knows about you being overworked sophomore year and about the quote-unquote natural competition brought upon by the five-year law program, but he never really thought it would be enough to rip you two apart. Sometimes, he even catches himself reminiscing about your rom-com-esque meet-cute during the warm autumn day after new student orientations – the day shined brightly, as he used to correct you, and his heart thumped so loud in his brain that he didn’t register his own laughter until you mentioned it. He ruminates on the moments with you – fixing your hair as an excuse to look into your eyes before you drop eye contact; reviewing concepts he already knows just to hear you talk, uninterrupted; only touching elbows in the library, to verify that the other stays, because students took the longer desks, forcing him to chose the singles with immovable dividers. He ruminates, not because he wants to, but because it plagues him; it makes him overanalyze all your interactions thereafter. And maybe he did overcompensate for his misplaced frustrations … even though some miniscule part of you irritated him, burned this flame inside his chest, like heartburn.
He can make a list too:
He hates the way you talk, so short and easily annoyed with him;
He hates the way you walk into class, wearing those tennis shoes, like you try to mute your steps, even though people will stare at you coming in 1, 3, or 5 minutes late;
He hates the way you spar with him during Socratic seminars, treating the classroom exercise like an actual courtroom or debate, leaving him hot and breathless, feeling as if no one else can match his wit, even though half the class probably shares the same IQ;
He hates the way you are always right, especially in class when he gets the most minute fact wrong and you dismantle his entire case;
He hates it when you lie, when you claim to love the cold so you grab the seat under the vent during every class study session with the TA, so no one else gets sick;
He hates the way you breathe through your mouth when your nose ultimately gets stuffy after the library turns on the aircon;
He hates it so, so much when you stay later than everyone else, and he sees the way you shiver, too stubborn to move seats, to move closer to him.
He hates the way you make him want to wrap you in his obviously warmer jacket, make him hyperfocus on nursing you back to health instead of the lesson at hand.
He hates the way you never look at him, even after all the others have left, and he mumbles the occasional bless you or are you okay?, which scarcely get a response.
Renjun hates the way he has to steal glances at you or ask you for the source material to get you to look his way. And he hates that he currently does it, waiting, like a coward, for even the TA to leave the room last.
“Do you have a copy of Article 6?”
You bury your nose further into the library’s copy of the Constitution. “Yeah, I just read it.” He hates the way he sees something stop in your throat, masked by a cough; you almost said more to him. Silently, you pass him the book. “Here. You can –“ Cough. “– You can have it.” You bring your hand to your mouth, covered by your sleeve, coughs bubbling into it.
He hates the sympathetic look in his eyes, that he can feel, that he can see in the glass reflection, that you do not acknowledge. Renjun hates the way he purposefully brushes his hands against yours despite you having sneezed on it earlier. He threw a disgusted bless you at you, almost standing from his comfortable position to give you a tissue. But you would never accept it, on the basis of mortal enemies.
“Thank you.”
He hates the way you say nothing back, the way you ignore him again. He hates the way that, at this point, he has to wonder if he really does hate you, hate the idea of you, or hate himself for letting your relationship, now lack thereof, get to this.
And so do you.

Another week passes until your TA schedules another study session; this time before the midterm, one that you need to attend because the vocabulary continuously becomes too complicated to understand. Like, academia is already an unnecessarily convoluted foreign language, and you do not want to hear how it is pronounced, especially when it comes from Renjun’s stupidly pretty voice that always has a perfect cadence. Even now, as he answers the TA’s pointless pop quiz, you are compelled to listen, somehow retaining the information better when he says it, too consumed by his tone … that you miss half the class exiting, until you are left alone with him again, and the reserve textbook that the TA checked out for an extra two hours after the session, knowing exactly which two students would probably study near each other before getting kicked  out (again) at midnight.
The click of an AirPod case opening snaps your attention, forcing you toward the tangible Renjun five seats away, furthest from the room’s only exit, other than the window you contemplate jumping from.
“What are you looking at?” Renjun snips, micro-jutting his chin toward you like a meaningless threat. He would never spar you … in a library, that is – he really does not enjoy getting kicked out of places. But he goes back to tuning out the world when you fail to respond, so you do the same, with your favorite band’s newest album.
Unfortunately, for Renjun, this meant enduring your off-key, sporadic humming, broken by cracks in your voice as if it were hoarse, vaguely resembling instrumental, much less the actual lyrics. He lets you get a bit louder, equally turning up his volume, until your humming elongates into one dissonant note, and he pulls out your earbud, pausing your music, your singing, and your studying. You un-click your pen, the corner of your eye flittering toward him, sparkling a glare because the angle will not allow you to narrow your eyes at him.
“Excuse me?”
“You’re excused,” he mocks, placing the AirPod on the table by your phone. Renjun returns to his seat just as easily and silent, the sound of his chair scraping the carpet replacing both your playlists. He is halfway through pulling his seat closer to the table when he continues, seeing you oscillate between him and your phone (not even the textbook; wow). “I meant it.” He glares. “If you’re just going to daydream, you can leave. I’ll even encourage you; you can be hung up on that Timothée Chalamet wannabe.”
You roll your eyes and scoff, head turning away. “I’m not hung up on him.”
“Could’ve fooled me,” he mutters back, popping open an orange midliner. He doesn’t use yellow anymore. Variations of the color, yes, from orange to orange-yellow, then yellow-green to green. His favorite color is still yellow; perhaps why he holds it in such high esteem, like dedicating little emojis across his Instagram captions to it or detailing small embellishments around his apartment, but not something he carefully looks at every day, like his notebooks.
Equally petty and bitter, you say something under your breath, trying to be unintelligible. Renjun, though, knows about your mother’s speak clearlys, and it comes out crystal: “Sounds like you’re hung up on him more than I am.” And neither of you understand why – why he would think you are hung up on some asshole in your philosophy class who probably thinks Thanos was a genius; why this is a conversation topic; why he even cares.
“I’m not the one who went on a date with him,” Renjun almost bites, in the form of a growl. He remembers almost literally running into your classmate just outside the boba place off-campus behind the math department, like you did with the cement pillar a couple years ago. You also walked out the door, in the same manner he did to go inside the shop (or, really, stop outside it), distracted by complimenting the matcha blend; you also shrugged him off and sauntered the path with Chalamet.
But what does Huang Renjun even know about your taste in men?
A lot, actually, considering that encompasses so much, if not everything, that you want from a significant other: passionate, honorable, empathetic. You would rather die (or shut him up) before you said anything like that to him. Except … you already did. Freshman year, prior to meeting his friends, when you both were still in that weird getting to know each other phase, not the talking stage just yet, you had been in his dorm, sitting on a bean bag he stole from the floor lobby, and he asked you, out of the blue (because he was finishing up a social psych paper), about the things that make someone attractive romantically. You told him the basics – funny, verbally appreciative, trustworthy, etc., then he watched your eyes sparkle outside his window and your hands wrap around your knees, gently rocking as you described the really specific details. He wondered, at that time, whether he could be all that, your fantasized ideal type.
“I don’t know where you get your information, Huang, but Xiaojun and I aren’t dating, nor did we ever go on a date. I don’t know which event you’re probably misconstruing in your mind, but you’re wrong, and I don’t –“
“Sounds like you don’t know a lot,” he interrupts, starting a new argument, running away from the last topic he started. “Maybe you should actually focus on getting back into the top three in this class, or do you want Seungmin to keep taking out spots?”
You purse your lips. “Bold words for someone who can barely spell.”
“Yeah?” Renjun perks his head, shaking it just the one time. “What’s your excuse?” His question is met with silence, and since your eyes downcast again, brows furrowed with harsh lines in the middle, you fail to notice him return to work. “Thought so,” he mutters, in the tone your mother would disapprove.
You wish it was different.
Ethics would be so much easier, just to comprehend, with his help – bouncing ideas and theories off each other, cowriting drafts and outlines, simultaneously shouting eureka after everything comes together. Except, you wish this was also different – the irritation, the discomfort, the … the resentment. You both know why you resent each other, though only internally; he doesn’t know why you resent him, nor vice versa, and it bubbles into these micro-arguments, passive aggressiveness; the both of you too awkward, maybe even timid, to reconcile without your hearts on the line.
Another sigh leaves your lips, hidden under your breath, and no matter how hard he tries to ignore it, Renjun’s ears attune to it, to your every move. He puts his midliner down, contemplating the benefits of talking to you again like … like a friend; he even opens his mouth to say something, anything, but really, what is there to say? What can he say? One of you will have to be more vulnerable, praying on the other’s empathetic, or sympathetic, side. You did it last, telling him that you couldn’t move in with him, something of a sad expression on your face that he made him immediately go to your defence. He tells himself that he forgave you as soon as your lips moved, but you were not so sure … And neither was he.
“H … he … hey,” he calls out slowly, voice growing audibly to coherency as his confidence settles on vulnerability, a harsh 180 from his previous spite. “Hey,” he repeats, even louder. You finally turn to him, lowering your music just enough to hear him but not taking it away completely, in case he just wants to insult you again. He doesn’t. And he hopes his face shows that.
You scrutinize him, staring down from his eyes to his lips, pausing there, maybe hesitating, before trailing up again. “What?”
“Do you understand the implied contract prompt?”
“Mm … hmm …”
Renjun exhales through his nose, slowly rolling his eyes, trying to expel the budding frustration with each rotation. “Can … Will you go over it with me?” He knows that he has to ask a yes-no question, to ask for help in a format that will not have you nitpicking each word to dismantle his entire request like an argumentative statement. And he does not start it with an apology, like he should. He rarely reveals his emotions so easily without a special occasion, though his every feeling writes itself across his face, chokes his throat.
Not that you indicate any consideration – which is probably his fault. Who could even give a warm response to his resting bitch face, or that scolding tone? Who would even want to?
“I can,” you overenunciate, possibly pondering the implications of his question, taking an eternity to say the simple words. You lower your head, again, to your notebook; pen scratching the air above the half-filled page, twitching. He dips his eye to your smallest movements, but when he catches nothing, he returns to your face, still contemplative. You partially inhale, keeping your breath at the base of your esophagus until you make your decision. He waits and waits, falling onto his toes with each millisecond. You lick your lips and exhale, shakily; you take another moment, giving him a bit of hope that you change your mind at last second in his favor. And you do: “… Ye-yeah, I think I will.” You point a finger at him. “As long as you confine your arguments to the texts.”
“Thanks,” Renjun sighs. He breathes again, hand sliding down his chest. “Maybe we can bounce ideas off each other too.”
The corners of your lips twitch upward. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
Tumblr media
You and Renjun spend another two hours in the library until a student worker’s voice echoes through the speakers, essentially kicking you both out. You helped each other pack your belongings, then walked down to the first floor together, in silence. He told you that he had to return a book at the front desk, and, despite your better judgements, you waited for him.
“So …” you say outside the library, grabbing both straps of your backpack. You stop first, in front of him, and he skids down, mirroring your posture on his tote bag.
“So …” he copies.
What does this mean? What happens now? What are we? Do we just go back to … You cannot call it ‘normal’, because what is normal? Even before everything, he blurred the line between friends and l… and more, which gave you a false hope that was shattered by Chaewon in just one minute, not that you speak to her so often anymore. You two get together occasionally, every 1-2 months subject to projects and midterms, working on different subspecialty electives – honestly, that itself is nice, not being forced to compete for the same internships, the same classes, the same fields. The same cannot be said with Renjun. Although, he gets it. Despite the way you two collaborate on similar theses, whether you agree or disagree with the hypothetical plaintiff, he validates your stances and vice versa, bringing up evidence to really strengthen each other’s arguments. He just … You just … debate whose evidence is better, which opening statement would be received by the judge (your professors) more positively.
A hundred questions linger on the tip of your tongue, nearly begging you to cross-examine him on the spot without preparation. Maybe lawyers are like this, kind of intense in all areas of their lives, needing the black and white extremes because they deal with the grey areas for days, if not weeks or months. Though, you still have yet to pass the bar exam. You and Renjun, who drops his arms to his sides like the iPhone emoji, his lips sucked inside his mouth.
“I …” You inhale, pursing your lips. “I …” You inhale again and bite your lip to keep the vacuum sealed. “I …” You start again and again, inhaling once more at the start of each sentence, reconsidering where to take this momentum. And Renjun follows your words, heels coming off the ground, leaning into you until he trips. “So …” you settle lamely, eyes drifting away from him, to one of the flickering lampposts in the midnight sky.
Renjun releases his lips into a tiny upward curve, sliding his feet individually into your personal bubble. “We can study at my apartment,” he suggests, “if you want.” And you bite your lip, pushing it out via tongue in the same second. Maybe he feels the same way, doesn’t want this good thing to end. These moments have happened before, after the massive fight move-in dispute, like when he offers you a pen or charger in class, seeing yours dead, or when he shows you that he listens, classroom or not, just like now, reading your body language, probably, and changing the trajectory of the night.
“… Can we?” you ask in a small voice. “I … I still have trouble with philanthropic and ethical responsibilities, and …” You drill your ankle into the ground. “And I think you know Carroll’s corporate social responsibility pyramid better than I do.”
“Right.”
You pick your head up, and he ducks his down.
“I … just … I mean,” he stutters, “If … If you think about it, we have different strengths, so we can … we should rely on each other a bit.” He inhales again, so you study his readable face, looking for all the signs that lead you to his fragile heart. His hands clasp in front of his chest, palms too sticky and perspiring to make the familiar rubbing sound. You try to find his eye, find his gaze, but he finds yours first, boring his widening pupils into you, making you take a small step back, slightly noticeable, given the way his fingers twitch forward, ghosting the outline of your palm. “An … And I’m sorry,” he apologizes. “For the last year.”
You brush your hair back through the middle. “It’s fine,” you breathe, pressing your palm into your stomach. “I mean, it’s … it’s not fine, because, you know … I … I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” he whispers, so quietly that you almost don’t hear it. Renjun clears his throat and looks over your head at the empty quad, lampposts dimmer than the second star on the right. “So, um, my place then?”
You bite your bottom lip again, trying not to show how wide your smile can get, because although this doesn’t cure the past 12 or 14 months of verbal rallying at every glance, it is a start. He still agrees with you on the important things, on the morals and values; he still, like, keeps the corner of his eye on you, in public, in private, in the classroom, everywhere; he still spends time with you, stays in your proximity, your eyeline, your conversation. And you know that the separation is your fault. Renjun talks about communication all the time, as the basis for any relationship, yet you couldn’t give him that. But maybe you can now.
“Yeah, I’d like that.”
Tumblr media
The next day saw another study session in his apartment again, like every rom com movie’s college students – sitting on the floor, a takeout box housing rice in your hands while he balanced a bulgogi platter in his, chopsticks replacing the pen that you really should be holding instead. Occasionally, you had to cover your mouth, when he said something witty, else little grains fly into his face, not that his smile would be mad, too consumed by how own laughter.
Then, later, deep into the night, after the styrofoam piles on the garbage bin, Renjun crouches next to you, laying his head above the couch cushions while you yawned toward the open living room plan. He admired your dedication (really your side profile) and asked if you wanted to wrap up for the night, or to take a break, or to nap even, but you shook your head, reclining in his same position, restarting the explanation for your essay question to tell him why your practice exam deserves at least 85%, not 70. You kept talking, between yawns, eyes drooping, chest slowing, until your words broke completely from their last train of thought. Somewhere, you stopped listening too. He was not sure where, because he stopped also, eyes closing after yours, falling onto the floor.
Oh, it happened again, that same week. And the next, and the next, happening every other night for months.
Jeno and Haechan, his roommates this year – the two who replaced you, or made room, spontaneously, for Renjun when you abandoned him – were surprised to see you, that initial night. They enjoyed your company freshman and sophomore year, sporadically, while you had been with Renjun (not with him, just by his side) and the even rarer occasion they saw you separated. Of course you bonded as friends – all six – you, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Chaewon, Jaemin, but law school is competitive and, worse, time consuming, restraining your already limited time from people you do not see regularly (e.g. not Dahyun, Jimin, Renjun, Chaeyoung, or Yeoreum) So, as you and Renjun fought more, recoiled from each other, he retreated to his childhood friends, inadvertently distancing you from them too. And slowly, you rebuilt your relationships with them, too.
You rebuilt your friendships enough to walk from the maths department to Renjun’s apartment with Jeno at 7pm on a Thursday after studying alone in the library a couple hours, laughing at the story he told you about the time Jaemin lost his shoe in the fountain by the engineering department, only for you to return it with a senseless debate: how many holes are on a straw?
“You’re insane!” you shout as he opens the door, dropping your bag on the couch to follow him into the kitchen, completely missing Renjun’s small wave from the dining room behind you two; he brings his hand to his chest and stares at his palm while you follow Jeno around the apartment. “The math says it’s one.”
Jeno cracks open a soda, leaning against the counter. He smacks his lips, pondering the debate. You know he took calculus and geometry, and currently he has that topography class he just got out of, so he should be on your side! “It’s like this.” He puts up his finger. “There is one passage, –” He sticks up a second finger. “ – with two holes. There are two places you can enter. If we define a hole as an opening to which you can enter only or leave only, then –“
“What are you two talking abou –“
“– there are two holes in a straw.”
You smack Jeno’s hand down. “This isn’t a philosophical question. A straw is real and tangible in a torus shape, so it has just the one.”
“Can I give my opinion?” Renjun walks to the counter, poking his head above it.
“No!” you and Jeno shout together.
“Okay, then let me ask you this: do you consider your mouth and asshole to be separate openings or just the one hole?”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. “Technically,” you sigh, “Yes.”
“So you just admitted you’re talking shit!”
You deadpan. “Do you want to die?”
Jeno surrenders his hands, giggling to himself. “There’s a reason I’m not trying to be lawyer like the rest of you.” He puts his can upside down in the sink to drain the soda that wouldn’t fall out and claps his hands. “Anyways, I’m going to bed. I’ve gotten, like, 4 hours in the last three days, and I swear that I started hallucinating concert halls in the middle of architecture, so good night.”
“Yeah, yeah, good night, whatever,” you wave him off.
“Good night?” Renjun half-sings, staring Jeno down the hall.
“Oh!” you shout again, making him whip his head around as you rush to grab something from your backpack. You pull out a paper, small bag, tossing it to him in the same movement. “I got you some gummies from the library café. They were restocking, and I don’t know if you bought any since last night, so … yeah, there you go.”
Renjun pulls out the candies one at a time, sprawling them across the arm of the couch while you take a seat on the opposite, pulling a pillow into your crisscrossed applesauce position. Coca-Cola Haribo, Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers, Vilac peach yogurt jellies – Renjun doesn’t remember telling you about his favorite gummies; though, you might have just been … paying attention. He is not too subtle, he hopes, about it, about anything really. His emotions, he has been told, are written all over his face, involuntarily reacting before he can even think to process them. And with you in such close proximity, with the both of you fixing this relationship, his brain goes fuzzy, rewiring again, slowly coming down from disappointment to hope, but prevents him from slinking to your side again, unsure how near you will allow him to be. Renjun pops a candy bag open, just like Jeno did a soda, then points it at you first. You take two, one for yourself and place the other in his hand, coaxing him closer. The both of you rearrange on the couch until your shoulders are a magazine-width apart, necks reclined on the pillows, legs thrown toward the ground.
Renjun only lets the lull in conversation last a few seconds, maybe less, until his head starts drifting to the side. “Have you eaten yet?”
“I –” Your stomach growls before you can answer, metabolism having been ignited by the gelatin. “I guess I am …” You sink into the couch, pressing your lips tight, trying to hide between the cracks without bumping into him. He gives you space, inching away. “Sorry …”
“It’s fine.” Renjun tucks his pretty hair behind his ears, eyes cast between his legs on the cushion. “We can order food before we start studying.” He pauses, giving you time to think about from which delivery service to order, phone in his front pocket suddenly feeling heavy on his thigh, dropping a little too close to center; he rearranges his phone. And you rearrange your body to look up at the ceiling. Renjun copies you, after a second, after appreciating the glow across your cheeks, no matter how tired you seem. His eyes follow the outline around the apples of your cheeks, walking the same path to his ceiling, head tilting closely to yours. “Is hotpot okay?” he whispers near your ear.
Your shoulders shudder, almost hitting him in the chin, and you turn to him. “Again?” you ask, ending through a sigh. You hug your waist and snuggle deeper on the couch. He almost replaces the cushion with his narrow shoulder; albeit, he has been consistently going to the gym. It might be more comfortable now than freshman year, but he does wonder if you would have that playful smile on your lips again. It appears in your eyes. “Will you actually pour the soup into the bowls correctly, or are we going to have to drop meat into the broth again?”
Renjun smiles for you. “I can’t promise anything, other than it will taste good.”
“It’s hotpot,” you say as if the reasoning were obvious. “It’s hotpot, and more importantly, it’s your taste in hotpot.”
Reminiscing with you only goes as far back as when he apologized in the library this term, but he recalls everything before then too. You never really went to get hotpot with him before now; occasionally, yes, if you were available and nearby when he planned it. Actually, Junhui, one of the PhD students from the biology department, invited you sometime during sophomore year, when you and Renjun were walking around campus for fresh air, sipping melted bubble tea. That was every once in a while, maybe every couple months, but now, you go with him or order out with him every couple days. Your late night study snacks (dinner, really) does not always have to be hotpot, or boba; you also buy gimbap from the convenience store and pineapple juices, when neither of you have the time to dedicate 30-minutes, or an hour, to a full meal. Those moments remind him about freshman and sophomore year, in which school did not consume your waking hours like a ticket counter at an arcade.
“Are you ready for the exam?” you ask, once he sends the order, curling up on the couch.
Renjun flops next to you again, brushing his bangs away from his eyes to see you better. “Partially. There are still a few concepts I’m uncertain about, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to complete the writing portion in time, if Jeong really is going to reduce our time limit to an hour, instead of 90 minutes.”
You drop one leg on the ground again, extending your back on the cushions too. “Should we start going over the last lecture then?”
Renjun nods and reached over the arm of the couch for his backpack, pulling out a fat stack of cardstock. “Yeah, I started making flashcards on Tuesday after the finance PowerPoint. Too many vocab words.” He turns the index cards around his fingers, then looks up at you. Your eyes droop a bit down, wrists waddling on the side of your thigh. He tilts his head to the side. “Or we can eat first.” He would offer to walk you to your apartment, but you can stay over; you have, in the recent past and further. Plus, you usually protest him. Renjun thuds his head on the cushion, pulling a pillow into his lap, flittering his eyes up your face until he meets your gaze. “Do …” he swallows. Your pupils dart around him, but he feels as though you never leave his eye, so he restarts, “Do you … remember … when we first tried to get hotpot?”
“Yeah,” you yawn, slinking onto your shoulder. “I don’t think I trusted your suggestions completely back then, but after Jeong’s brutal pop quiz, –”
“No, um,” Renjun clears his throat. “Back-back then.” Before we broke up.
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
A beat passes.
Then another one, both of you just staring at each other, unmoving, unblinking.
You open your mouth, but his chest rises, and you close it again.
He almost takes it back, mentally drawing all the what-ifs, even though he lives in a reality where all of this happened already – his breathing, his question, the fight. Even if he wanted to withdraw everything, he couldn’t.
“Yeah,” you surprise him, fingers pinching the couch. He mistakes the movement for another what-if, another hesitation, and reaches out, slowly threading his fingers under your palm. “I … I …” you stutter, corners of your lips twitching wide. “That was the first time I met your friends.”
“They’re your friends too,” he whispers, sliding his knuckles to meet yours. Renjun tugs your wrist weakly, and you comply. “They like you too.”
You search his eyes, small frown on your face. “… They do?”
Renjun swallows. “Yes, they do.”
Tumblr media
Almost 48-hours pass before you see Renjun again, not seeing him during the intermediate day between business ethics. Your other shared class gets cancelled, too, giving you another excuse to avoid him.
You know why you avoid him, and you know when you avoid him – any time your friendship blurs the unspoken lines: talking through dawn, the smallest touches, always finding each other in the crowd. Even after your ‘break’, both of you found each other in your classes, unintentional at first. Everything was by chance this third year of college. Then, you talked to him, and he talked to you. Well, really, you argued back and forth, rallied at each other in class, encouraged by your fellow classmates and occasional professor. But you kept finding each other, preemptively refuting each other’s theses; it was a guess, of course, and it was always right.
Now, too, Renjun finds you outside the building, holding your backpack straps in both hands, twisting the fabric in circles.
“Hey,” he greets softly, jogging over to meet you faster. He catches your elbow, turning you to face him when you, still focused on the law building, bite your lip, dismissing his presence. You release the tension in your body, slinking into his singular hand, as if he were the only thing supporting you. “Nervous?” Renjun raises an eyebrow.
You swallow, then give him a weak smile, your mouth dropping the instant it formed. “That obvious?” You flicker your gaze across his eyes and frown. “Are you not nervous?”
Renjun relinquishes your arm. “No, I am. I just …” He pulls you to the side, away from the door, when other students start walking inside the building. His thumb rubs over your jacket, not that you feel it; you hear it though, like a scratching sound, before he stops, dropping his hand again, one last squeeze on your arm. “I just wanted to check on you first.” He gives you a weak smile, but this time, it does not go away as yours did, staying through the conversation. “Final exam,” he nods to the door. “Last one.”
“Of the term,” you mumble, then cringe, elbows tucking in your sides and lips pursing. If this is his attempt at comforting you, you aren’t being very welcoming to it. “Sorry.”
“How about,” he starts, and your glassy eyes peer into him, “Um,” his voice stutters, like caught between a rock and a hard place, unable to crawl out until you put a hand on his upper arm, resting there, circling around his small bicep like a funerary armband. “H-how about one more competition?”
You tilt your head to the side, frowning, hand slipping away too.
But Renjun catches you, compressing your knuckles in his swift move, then relaxing, slightly, not letting you go again. “If you’re ranked higher, –“ He pauses, briefly losing his train of thought, when you lick your lips open, leaning into his hold almost to the point of you both falling; but he stands solid. “– I’ll buy you dinner at Gen.”
“Gen?”
He brought it up a few times in the past, in the far past, asked you to go with him even more rarely, after a drink or two. And everyone knows the restaurant – a popular (and common) date night barbecue house, given by the candlelit atmosphere and the high frequency of two-person booths. Conversely, you brought it up once, that time you met his friends, dying for a reprieve, or a switching the night into something more intimate, you cannot remember. Although, depending on the day, your definition of intimacy differs; currently, you remember it as wanting to just be with him, wanting to slowly retire from the large crowd, wanting to hide your feelings a bit more, again, when he does not confirm his. Now, too, you counter him with follow-up questions, trying not to get your hopes up again, only for them to be dashed.
But Renjun nods and confirms his decision, his word. “Yeah,” he smiles, “Gen.”
“And …” you hum, tipping onto your toes, getting closer to his face, to his lips. You glance at his heart-shaped philtrum, so filled with love that his body expels it in the smallest details. He traces your eyeline, falling a little behind, just staring at your eyelids until you look back up at him. “… And what happens if you rank higher?”
“Mmmmm,” he ponders, voice a couple octaves higher, as if he had not yet considered winning, at all. “If I win,” he continues speaking slowly, dragging out the hypothetical. “If … if I win,” he restarts, darting through your face for an objection; you give none, instead breaking his personal space, coming just a biology textbook-thickness in front of his chest – far enough to take it all back in a second but close enough to give him more, should he ask. And he does. “If I win, you’ll owe me a kiss.”
Tumblr media
[Renjun, 4:51 PM]
Have you checked the rankings yet?
[You, 4:55 PM]
I went this morning. They’re not up yet.
[Renjun, 4:57 PM]
:(
[Renjun, 4:58 PM]
They were supposed to be up yesterday.
[You, 4:59 PM]
I know :( but I can check again tomorrow.
[Renjun, 5:01 PM]
No, it’s fine. I’m heading in that direction anyway. I’ll check right now, and if it’s not up, we can go together tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Renjun stands outside your apartment, late into the night, teetering on both his feet, hand rising and dropping over and over again … until you open the door.
“Oh,” you weakly blurt, stopping one foot ahead of the doorframe, almost through the small opening between his legs. You rub your eyes with your cotton long sleeves, the hair loose from your ponytail flopping around your face, framing the yawn escaping your tongue. “What …” You drop your hands to your sides, blinking rapidly at him. “What are you do –”
Renjun wastes no time, letting his body answer for him. He grabs your cheeks, linking his clean-cut fingernails behind your ears, thumbs rolling up the apples of your cheeks. You grab onto him, onto his waist and wrist, bunching your fingers around every surface you can reach. Renjun smacks his wet lips together, having obsessively bit and licked them just seconds earlier. His eyes close halfway, mid-prayer; you copy him, standing on your toes, too. He comes just a hair away, lips nearly brushing yours. “Can I kiss you?”
“Please,” you whimper, so faintly that he almost misses it. Almost. You never leave his attention.
He waits another millisecond, inhaling some extra courage, telling himself that you are more permanent than he thinks, before, finally, bending down. You push your mouth higher, involuntarily tightening your grip on him. Renjun slips his tongue between your lips, quickly, elongating the single kiss so he doesn’t have to ask again. You adjust, easily, even more when he simultaneously moves one hand into your hair, supporting your head, and the other under your chin, thumb lifting your face upward. His tongue tentatively slithers past your teeth, prodding your tongue awake, flicking it unfolded, and your knees buckle, walking him inside your apartment. He presses you against the closest wall, closing the door behind him.
“Does,” you swallow, digging your fingers into his flexible hips, pushing him into a pause, “this mean you ranked higher?”
Renjun steals a chaste peck, head rushing in, then pulling out slower, admiring all the minute details in your face until you open your eyes widely, peering into him. He shakes his head, “No,” breathing the word onto your mouth, lips puckering across the word. “It wasn’t up.” He cautiously steps forward, only by his toes. And when he sees your lack of restraint, he adds another. “I just … I didn’t want you to think that I had any other intentions.”
“Than?”
“Than to date you.”
You yank him even closer, his palm banging into the wall, his heartbeat beating on yours. You tilt your head to the side, too, nose brushing his cheek. “Can I … Can you kiss me again?”
Renjun combs your hair away from your ears, pushing it behind your head. He grazes his lips on the last layer of your vermillion, all the little nerve endings sensing him but not entirely feeling him. “Can I do more?”
“Anything.” You arrest his wrist, contracting like a festival bracelet that will not loosen, also needed for entrance the next day. “Please.” You walk him toward your room, almost like a waltz, leading him first this time. “Please.”
Renjun accepts, taking off his bag and jacket in the same action, dropping them outside your bedroom door – an accident; he aimed for inside, but kissing you takes priority, any day, and he returns his chest, his lips, his hands to you, standing only in his t-shirt and slacks, you mirrored on him with your own oversized long-sleeve and lounge shorts. He spins you around, your back against his torso, you gasping at the suddenness, and nips into your neck, tongue dragging along your skin to mollify it and prevent a mark. For now. One hand holds your jaw, letting him find your perfect pulse point; then travels between your clothed boobs, cupping and squeezing, harder, provoked by your winded whispers. His fingers flick your waistband, tapping into your skin. He moves his lips down your shoulder, peppering gentle kisses coolly.
“Renjun, please.” You sigh into his embrace, his hug, then take off your shirt, giving him more skin to touch.
He kisses your bare shoulder, hands diving into your underwear now, and you grab his bicep even tighter, making him grunt lowly. Your nails dig through his thin t-shirt, dragging him another step forward, his cock nudging your ass cheeks separate. But it’s not enough. The material prevents him from feeling you, from you feeling him, entirely, so he pushes apart your vulva, slipping his fingers over your pussy to your clit, getting you wetter while he single-handedly unbuttons his trousers. They fall to the ground, and he steps out of them. When he stands taller again, he leans forward, fingers slipping entirely, knuckle-deep, inside your wet pussy. You, reflexively, bend over, face sloping toward the mattress, catching yourself on his arm.
“Ah, Renjun.”
“Too much?” he mumbles, nose brushing low behind your neck. He drags his nimble fingers on the crevice between your pussy and leg, drying them as he pulls out to put his hands on your shorts and spin you around, bare chest to bare chest. Renjun stares into your eyes, stooping a bit lower to give you the upper hand. His gaze dips down your face, just briefly, when your lips part, an exhale escaping.
“No,” you shake your head, returning his eyes to yours. You touch the waistband of his underwear, running your thumb along the seam. “I – I want more.”
Renjun nods, just once, letting the sentence seep into his brain, then he nods again, more fervently, his lips running back to you, after he understands/it fully hits him. His palms slide across your body: on the crown of your head, fingers spreading downward to support your neck, and on your lower back, guiding you over the bed. You don’t go down pliantly though, sticking to him, swiftly moving to anchor on his sturdy shoulders, keeping him locked in until he kisses down your face, down the column of your neck, sucking at the base and leaving budding hickeys to decorate your collarbone. He licks between your boobs, tongue covering his bottom teeth as he takes your nipple in his mouth, hands holding your hips down kneading the neglected teat, rubbing his tight fingers along the hard bud like a washboard.
You inhale sharply, picking your head off the mattress to see him better, then drop back down again, back arching, moaning, “Renjun, yes, oh my God.” You pick your hips up, planting your feet on the duvet, humping the air to feel him, feel the outline of his abandoned dick. “Mmm,” you thrash about, knocking him down your body.
Renjun lands above your appendix, adding another mark low on your stomach, before saying, “I’m getting to it.” He picks up his head, smirking. “Or, are you going to argue with me now?” He kisses above your shorts. “Again?”
He sneaks his way into your shorts, under your panties, jerking them down your smooth legs, and diving into your pussy, cold breath igniting the bundle of nerves. You accidentally twitch your thighs, squeezing his face; you hold him there a moment longer, raising your clit to his waiting tongue. When he licks around your vulva, your legs slacken, allowing him to do what he initially wanted. His tongue trails along your inner thighs, gently nipping and sucking. He holds your knees apart, giving himself the space to work, focusing on the outer part of your cunt, tenderizing the area until your legs start shaking, collapsing on the bed – that is when he pokes his tongue through your orifice, resting his cheek on your inner thigh, his wet sloppy kiss returning to him. His nose circles over your clit, scraping it side-to-side as his tongue flutily cleans your walls. He inserts a finger beside his tongue, wriggling it deep inside your cunt, met with your spongey, little spot, then another one, pulling back and forth, sliding his lips onto your clit again.
“Fuck, Renjun,” you whine, twisting and turning, knocking him about. He pushes his free plan just outside your pussy, keeping you down flat, sucking your entire clit between his lips, tongue ruffling the hard nub. “You’re going to make me cum.”
“Mmhmm,” he nods, briefly disconnecting to spit on his fingers. He slowly slides the tip of his palm under your clitoral hood, winding his arm in a half circle, preparing to drive his fingers in you at a faster pace. “That is my intention. Do you want me to stop?”
You shake your head.
Renjun climbs on top of you again, lunging into your face, his head sloped to the side, barely supported on the one hand at your side, repeatedly milling his boxers between your legs. Occasionally, he breaks the kiss, to check on his fingers buried inside your cunt, only to restart his grinding. Your lips split, releasing a moan inside his mouth. Renjun grits his teeth, the tip of his dick getting flicked by your heavy blanket, then smashes his lips on yours, coiling and toiling, exhaling heavily through his nose, onto your cheek. He shoves a third finger in your cunt, so far that your body arches off the bed; he grabs the front of your pussy, roughly wriggling his entire hand and, essentially, pawing at your pussy, your hamstring muscles contracting, toes curling. You clutch his bicep, eyes shutting, knees turning outward.
He repeats long pecks behind your ear, gently nibbling the lobe where you periodically wear earrings. “Can I give you more?” he whimpers, begging, hips knocking a little bit closer, biting his lip.
Your nails dig into his skin, chin jutting to the side, neck allowing him extra access. “Please, Renjun, I’m so close. You’re going to make me cum, you’re going to make me cum. Deeper, oh my God, please.”
Renjun slips off his underwear, using the edge of your bed and his legs. He lines the tip of his dick behind his knuckles, gently prodding his hand forward to give you a deeper sensation like you ask. You peek open your eyes slowly, then stare at him, feeling him kneel high between your thighs; you glance down to his cock in hand, damp head leaking pre-cum like lubricant, and nod, catching his drift. Renjun pushes his thumb onto your clit, rocking it side to side, and slips his fingers out, replacing it with his cock. He groans with you, interlacing his dry (yet soft and moisturized) hand, jaw hanging low, heavy breaths flattening his lungs.
Your free hand snakes into the bedsheets, crawling under a pillow, arm raising to the ceiling. Renjun kisses you again, strangled moans from both of you shaken, not stirred, by your tongues. And the moment his cock buries fully inside your cunt, you gasp, opening your mouth wide enough for him to slip his tongue inside too, swirling yours to the front of your mouth, into his, where he can suck on it. Your body rises in temperature rapidly, chests abrading simultaneously, fervently trying to fuse your bodies together, exploring each other’s mouths. His hand falls close to your cheek, almost slipping and falling completely as the pressure in his abdomen builds.
“Tell me you’re close,” he whispers shakily, legs, abs, biceps trembling. Renjun feels your walls gradually tighten, coaxing the pre-cum from his cock; he can feel that, too, trickling down his shaft, mingling with your wetness. He picks up the pace, hips turning obviously, left, right, left, right, then pelvis snapping up, up, up, joining your pussy whenever he bangs you into the headboard. “Angel, does that feel good?”
You bite your lip, nodding, then let go. “I’m … I’m …” He keeps the pattern: left, right, left, right, left and right, up, up, up. His pelvis drives you through the bedframe, but his hips bring you back down, and you roll your eyes into your head, moaning loudly. You hold onto his wrist, ground yourself through the building orgasm. “So, so good, Renjun. Oh, my God, I’m cumming. Keep going, keep going.” He continues rolling his hips, cock floundering inside your pussy, tip thumping rhythmically on your sweet spot, until your wall spasms slow down, the compressions loosening enough for him to slip through. Your pussy quickly returns to its original tightness in the downtime, and you mewl when he pulls out, tip catching on the stretch.
Renjun clenches the base of his cock, fingers replacing your pussy as he pulls out, mumbling, “Fuck, I’m gonna cum,” the syllables of your name also spilling from his tongue.
You sluggishly pull yourself back up, but when you stand on your knees, similar to him, you fall forward. It gives you the perfect position to suck his dick though, and your hands join his single one, tugging on his shaft, twisting your wrists in different directions, at different speeds, spreading your cum all over his length. Tentatively, you stick out your tongue, his cock barely scraping it as he fucks the tiny hole created by your hands and you jerk him off. You cautiously look up at him and find him, eyes closed, pointed toward the ceiling, jaw dropped smally as he controls his breath. His hands comb into your hair, sketching around your ears, gently pulling you further up his cock, making one of your hands disappear.
"Oh, just like that, angel," he moans, "I'm gonna cum. Can I cum in your throat?"
You give him a strangled whine, bobbing your head up and down largely. Yes. You pump him a couple more times, slurp his cock loudly a couple more times, and he cums into your mouth. Renjun pulls his cock out, white cum stringing from his to your lips, overflowing on the corner, onto your cheek and chin, your tongue curving down like a bowl to catch every drop. He cups the beads falling down your face and swipes it into your mouth, persuading you to swallow, which you do, around his thumb.
Silence envelopes the two of you for a second, you and Renjun locked in that final position, breathing heavily, chests still heaving. You lay down first, then gesture for him to join you. He shakes his bangs in front of his face, smiling, and complies.
"Don't you need to use the bathroom?"
"In a minute," you wave him off, nudging yourself onto his shoulder. He lets you rest there, his eyes closing, breathing evenly, also spent, yielding to that end-of-the-term exhaustion. "Can I ... give you something too?"
Renjun opens an eye, then the other, seeing you stare at him. He analyzes your features, darting through the exhaustion, finding your wide eyes and fidgeting hands. "You've already given me everything." He mattes down your hair, brushing the shorter layers behind your ear to see your pretty face better. "Do you want to go again?" he smiles, dropping his arm on your shoulder, clinging closer to you. "I might need a minute,” he laughs.
You kiss him quiet, lips closed, staying on his for a long moment before you pull away, snaking a leg between his. "It's not necessarily the same ... as what we just did," you explain, whispering, "I want you to know that ... that my intentions, too, are to date you."
Renjun beams. "So, how about we get that dinner at Gen then?" You search his eyes, shoulders rising faster. His hand slips onto your upper arm, squeezing and rubbing the naked skin. "No competition," he clarifies, "No winners or losers, just you and me."
"Yeah, okay," you smile back, feeling him scoot even closer. “I’d like that a lot.”

•Toxic Pleasure•(M) Mark x reader x Haechan •
Tumblr media
Preview for Part 4
Pairing: Haechan x reader x Mark ft. Yeonjun
Genre: smut;fluff;love triangle;Mafia au
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
A week had passed since the "event" in the bathroom, Y/n felt embarrassed. The way Yeonjun witnessed her and the 2 others go all out on each other sent a cold chill up her spine. Her own best friend, witnessing her do such sultry, and not with one guy, but two.
What made it even worse is that the two stayed together. So, seeing him or even coming into contact with him made her feel shame. She couldn't even look him in the eye, afraid she might see a look of disappointment. Since she's an official member of their gang now, it's hindering how they do their mob work. The other member's have taken a notice to this and wonder why, asking her what's wrong, but she's always switching the subject.
Meanwhile, with dream, Jaemin had caught on immediately to what happened with them, seeing the 4 enter the room at the same time with uncomfortable gestures and awkward glances around the room. The day after, he confronted Haechan about it and teased him. "You sure had your fun with Mark hyung, haven't you? I bet you were turned on more when Yeonjun barged in on you three fucking the shit out of her!" He laughed uncontrollably. Haechan just frowned at him with a "Shut up." mumbling from his mouth. "What are you two talking about?" Mark asked as he entered the living room. Since that night, Mark had been trying to forget about what had happened, feeling as if his ego is getting in the way of his reputation all because of some mysterious woman he became fuck buddies with for a little while. "Oh, nothing. Just how you two were getting freaky with Y/n in the bathroom and getting caught!" Jaemin smirked. "Okay, and?" Mark deadpanned, earning the younger to gape at his reply. "That's in the past, so stop talking about it and meet me and the others in the meeting room." Mark ordered,. earning a bewildered look from Haechan. The two followed their leader, giving glances at one another from time to time. They sat in their chairs and gave Mark their undivided attention.
"Tomorrow night, our drug dealer will land from China. We must be prepared for anything that tries to sabotage us in the process." Mark stared with a serious face expression. "You're referring to your little fuck friend, am I right?" Jeno smirked as Mark glared at him. "Not just her. But other mobsters." Mark gritted. He gave his attention to the quiet Renjun in the room. "I want you to make sure that no one gets in our way that night, watch everything carefully." The Blue haired demand, earning a nod from the younger. "Tomorrow we will succeed in this mission, no matter what it takes." Determined Mark said.
・❥・
"I'm sorry, what?" Y/n blurted in bewilderment. "Are you death? He wants us to kill Mr. Lee. We need to get you some hearing aids, Jesus." Beomgyu rolled his eyes. "Your sister heard me fine." Mr. Choi said to his son. "When and what time?" Yeonjun spoke. "Tomorrow, at night. I wanted to hire masked beauty, but I just can't get in contact with her." "We'll gladly do it for you, Mr. Choi." Yeonjun nodded. Y/n stood there in nervousness. "Isn't Mr. Lee, the father of the leader of DREAM?" Y/n asked in hesitation. "Yes, what's it to you?" Her father asked in suspicion. "N-nothing."
Yeonjun, who had realized the situation, stared at his friend. After discussing details about the assassination, the six made it back to their base. Y/n planned on shutting her self away once they arrived, but was surprised when Yeonjun pulled her into his room and locked the door behind him. "Let's talk." He said as he pushed y/n down on the bed. She plopped onto the edge of his bed, with him standing in front of her with his arms crossed. "You've been avoiding me ever since the threesome I caught you three having." He began. Y/n winced at the mentioning of it. "What's wrong, are you ashamed, embarrassed? I've seen you're area before so I know it's not that. So tell me, what is it?" He confronted.
"It's hard to explain. Can we talk about this later?" She mumbled. "Yeah, not gonna pressure you. I've pulled you in here to talk about the mission. "I know how you feel about this. It being Mark's dad and shit." He said as he sat beside her. "I'm having mixed emotions. I shouldn't care about his dad, right? Father's voice keeps playing in my head. How he wanted me to do the job instead." She expressed, Yeonjun nodding in understanding. "Maybe you should sit this mission out." He suggested, but y/n refused. "I'll do it," she sighed. She got up from her friends bed and opened the bedroom door, only for Beomgyu's body to fall down. "What the fuck?" Beomgyu stood up and pointed at his leader. "I got my eye on you." He said in a serious tone before causally walking away. The two friends looked at each other before rolling their eyes.
Y/n made her way into her room, closing the door carefully, and took out her phone. She dialed a number and put the phone up to her ear. It ranged a couple of times before the person picked up.
"Wow, look who's calling. What do you need, kitten?" The person on the other end asked.
"Haechan, we need to talk..."

Byeol’s Relationships: Hyung Line
ByeolChan
Tumblr media
byeol’s soulmate
literally one of the only reasons byeol stayed in JYP
chan said that he had this dark image as a trainee bc of how long he’s been at the company but byeol never saw that
even if he tried to hide it, byeol always saw the way he got her to get food or how he quietly tried to get her out of trouble
she wanted to return the favor and thus a friendship formed that it would take a very very very big event to happen to break them apart
she knows that she can depend on him for anything and vice versa
byeol tries her best to relieve the burden of him as a leader whenever she can so he can relax
and also force the man to sleep bc sir you need to get off your laptop and sleep
she can, will, and has dragged him to bed and cuddle him so he won’t leave chan knows that he could remove her but he doesn’t want to so he yields
basically the parents of skz
if chan isn’t there to get the members focused, byeol is there to corral everyone
good comparison would be vice captain? like how in nct dream theres leader mark, captain jeno, and vice captain (?) renjun?
that but byeol and chan
MinByeol
Tumblr media
Byeol’s dance teacher
Byeol is very slow when learning dance so she always asks Minho for help
said dance practices are 90% serious and 10% jokes bc someone says something stupid and they need to take a ten minute break to recover from laughter
he’s also very protective of her and making sure she’s eating by cooking her food
was actually the one who asked minho to join their group considering he was the last member who joined jyp
you don’t understand how much grief she went through when he got eliminated during the survival show
nor the relief when he got added back in the last episode
she didn’t say it out loud but byeol very much wanted to fight jyp in the moment even now but who doesnt really
the two of them are like really clingy so whenever they’re resting the two of them just gravitate towards each other
she just doesn’t want to leave him you guys 🥺
you know how some people say minho is the mom of skz? yeah byeol and minho are unintentionally fighting for that title amongst the fans
they just have a silly dynamic with each other considering how much banter they have
byeol has jokingly said she will take away minho’s cats and minho took that as a declaration of war /hj
they’re stupid but they’re stupid together yknow?
ChangByeol
Tumblr media
same age friends!!!!!
they’re the only 99liners so they have to look out for each other yknow?
although he does make fun on byeol for being old even though she’s only five months older seo changbin
very protective of her
he always makes sure that she’s inside they’re little bubble surrounded by the members and staff whenever they go to airports or other schedules
gym buddies too!
whenever he goes to work out he tries to bring byeol along too for her to build muscle for her noodle arms
not for her to get built like him but enough to get toned yknow?
he also likes to run through lyrics with her whenever 3RACHA is producing new songs for the album
he always gets shy whenever he gets complimented with also a sense of pride
also another person she has to drag home bc music can wait i’ll fight you if you don’t go to bed
fans think the dynamic is funny bc at first glance they look like complete opposites
but then five minutes later byeol is smiling while changbin ends up doing aegyo for whatever reason
sometimes byeol wonders if changbin is really the same age as her or if he’s really just part of the maknae line
HyunByeol
Tumblr media
you know how hyunjin and jisung said they used to fight? yeah byeol was the one who stopped them
he likes to think he’s her favorite of the 00liners and he’s right /hj
they take the time together and paint and have quiet time whenever they want to relax
they just have a sense of comfort for each other whenever they’re stressed
whenever hyunjin is feeling very overwhelmed or unconfident byeol always makes sure to stay by his side and cheer him up
she will literally square up to anyone who says bad things against him and no hyunjin you can’t stop me let me go-
she’s also very affectionate with him and loves clinging to him like she does with minho
there are a lot of clips of byeol looping her arm around hyunjin’s and leaning towards him
of course it doesn’t stop the teasing from him
as one of the taller, if not the tallest, he always clowns her for her height and pretends he can’t see her from his perspective
sometimes she threatens to hit his kneecaps, other times she sighs and accepts it
hyunjin likes to think of byeol as the sister he never knew he wanted
you know that look when people who are the only child find someone who they consider a sibling? yeah that

SONA WITH NCT DREAM
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SONA & MARK
Late-night thoughts buddies. The conversation is always somewhat deep between these two—they often stay up discussing different topics, sharing their thoughts and feelings. They have a very strong understanding of each other.
SHIP (SOMARK)
POPULARITY: 76%
Tumblr media
SONA & RENJUN
One day friends, another day enemies. It took them a lot of time to understand each other, yet their friendship is still very dynamic. Although they have very little patience for each other, they are very forgiving of each other and are very supportive of each other. They bicker a lot and their on-camera interactions are very entertaining. They sometimes go hiking together.
SHIP (SOREN)
POPULARITY: 63%
Tumblr media
SONA & JENO
Their personalities are quite different, but they get along really well. Although Sona’s amount of energy tires Jeno out and he often jokingly complains about it, they both like to spend time with each other. They are one of the most popular ships in the group, which caused them to distance themselves from each other at some point. Since then, they have been quite careful with each other on camera.
SHIP (SONO)
POPULARITY: 95%
Tumblr media
SONA & HAECHAN
One of the strongest friendships in the group. These two are polar opposites, everyone around them (and sometimes themselves) wonders how this friendship even works. They have a similar sense of humor and always team up on jokes, making them insufferable to be around sometimes. They are like two sides of the same coin.
SHIP (SOHAE / SOHYUCK)
POPULARITY: 87%
Tumblr media
SONA & JAEMIN
Friendship goals! They are so similar they sometimes feel like one. Energetic Jaemin—energetic Sona. Quiet Sona—quiet Jaemin. They understand each other without words and they hype each other up on every occasion. They often workout together.
SHIP (SOMIN)
POPULARITY: 90%
Tumblr media
SONA & CHENLE
When these two start talking, the place turns into a debate room. They could go on forever trying to win their arguments; they have to be physically silenced to stop. If everyone starts groaning and complaining, it’s probably because Sona and Chenle got into a conversation.
SHIP (SOLE)
POPULARITY: 72%
Tumblr media
SONA & JISUNG
Although at first things were very awkward between them, as they grew up they also grew comfortable around each other. Now, although their dynamic is still a little awkward, they know they can trust each other with basically everything. Sona considers Jisung her little brother.
SHIP (SOSUNG)
POPULARITY: 78%
