Monster from Epic and Icarus analysis because the thoughts do be real
“How did suffering become so endless?”
- Icarus thinking it should have been done by now, but it's not. It's still going
“Do I need to change?”
Moving on.
“I'm surrounded by the souls of those of lost”
- Icarus talking about Aurelius, Enderian, *Centross*, Momboo, etc.
- The idea of everyone who has died is a sacrifice, and they will be brought back, but also Icarus ability to not grieve properly because of it
"What if the greatest threat we'll find across the sea, is me?
- Icarus wondering if they are failing and they are going to slip up to the point everything crashes because they made one wrong move.
“What if I'm the monster? What if i'm in the wrong”
- I like to think this line as Icarus beginning to think of each reset and all the "antagonistic" acts they've done and thinking if they are and have always been a monster because they in their own eyes can't seem to do anything to help people as they just end up hurting someone.
“What if i'm the problem that’s been hiding all along”
- Icarus in “Lady of the world” talking about how corruption has always been there, how whatever they did then was always there they just pushed it back of their mind until corruption made it the forefront of their mind.
“What if i'm the one who killed you”
- Icarus debating if it was Quixis that killed Momboo or themselves.
“What if I’ve been far too kind to foes but a monster to ourselves”
- Foes = Fable, ourselves = everyone else minus the co-workers
- Although Icarus currently wants to fix everything and stay with Fable, i like to see this as Icarus debating if they are on the right side.
The Polyphemus section is Centross, mainly the Violet Reaper
“Or does he end my men, to avenge his friend”
- S1 funeral.
-“Avenge his friend” is a line you could annotate “friend” to be Enderian
- If you wanted to, you could almost switch into "...,to serve his goddess"
The Circe section is Enderian
"When the witch turns men to pigs, to protect her nymphs"
- Corruption of Ominus Bane
- You could see this line in my opinion as either to protect her realm or to prove her point about Overworlders and how they are the same, for example, resorting to violent outcomes
The Poseidon section is Fable
- This section is a mix of things, I can see mixes of Fable during the war and Fable currently, and Icarus is like thinking of the similarities and differences between Fable and himself.
The Odysseus section about him during the Trojan War is Icarus and the Wack
“Does a soldier use a wooden horse to kill sleeping Trojans cause he is vile”
- Icarus using the wack to kill Momboo
"Or does he throw away his remorse and save more lives with guile"
- Icarus querying if he should just throw away his regret for any actions he has done and attempt to help people through sly and cunning intelligence (literally the definition of guile)
The section after the Odysseus section is Icarus wondering if they should just become the monster to everyone else but not the co-workers and yk Fable
“I lost my best friend, I lost my mentor, my mom, 500 men gone…”
- Best Friend is Centross.
- Mentor is a funky one because i could see it be switched into my brother, but at the same time, you could keep it as mentor and annotate it to be Quixis
- Mom is Isla -> "Like King like Prince" : Icarus finding her portrait and realising Fable hasn't told them where she is and that he can't remember her aswell as Rae
- 500 men gone = the people and gods who have died and or been husked
“I must get to see Penelope and Telemachus”
A) remove the context of the names, no wife, no son, none of that
B) This could be annotated into two different ways but i can mainly see it as Momboo and Centross and Icarus’ hope with all this they can come back
“I’ll go where Poseidon wont reach us”
- Poseidon could be annotated into Enderian, but one that I think works well is the faction, mainly Ocie.
“And if got to drop another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don't die”
- Icarus being like if i have to kill another person, fuck it, whatever it is I need to do to prove myself or help in anyway.
The end section with Odysseus choosing to become the monster I could see as Icarus state of mind of their not meant to be helping people as all they have done is hurt people, so that's what their meant to do, it's what they were ment to do from the beginning, so they will.
Thoughts and feelings go bonkers and bit of aaah and bit of RA

RASPBERRY - CORIOLANUS SNOW

“Boys, workin' on empty
Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat?
I just think about my baby
I'm so full of love I could barely eat
There's nothing sweeter than my baby
I'd never want once from the cherry tree
'Cause my baby's sweet as can be
She give me toothaches just from kissin' me.”
- Work Song // Hozier
Caecilia Snow can hardly stomach what she is about to witness. Her oldest sister, Iovita, stands stoned faced behind her. One of her svelte hands clasped around her left shoulder. A mask, she’s sure. Vita always did have troubles with expressing her emotions. The middle sister, Agrippina, is a complicated mix of both. Her hand is warmer on Caecilia’s right shoulder, but the blisters make it uncomfortable. Cato, the steadfast and tough oldest son, does not look at all. One can only wonder how he felt about that tribute from two, poor souls. Little Ignacius (she will always see him as such even though he's grown a head taller than her) brow is furrowed so terribly, she fears it might get stuck.
And strange Silvanus, the second son, he isn’t even on the balcony with his beloved siblings. Perhaps he is lost in his thoughts again. He wonders now if when his father smells the wood of the gallows, he thinks of a forest out in twelve that he haunted decades ago. The handkercheif he uses to hastily wipe his tears before he can gather the courage to join his family possess drops of blood every time he pulls it away. From his nose or drug up from his lungs, who can say? The wall outside the library his father had made especially for their mother on their wedding anniversary takes several blows from his aching clenched fist. So much blood, like father like son. Silvanus feels comforted by the persistent thought.
Ignacius eyes his brother with open concern as he saunters into view beside him. He barely manages to hide his wobble and his rush to stuff a stained cloth into his pocket does nothing to ease Ignacius’s worries. Silvanus has been one of the more sensitive ones in their parade, though that has never meant that he has not fought for his family. It is because of that that when Silvanus relents to the beseeching stare of his younger brother, Ignacius nods with utmost determination. The second son softens minutely and eventually returns it.
“Snow lands on top.” Six voices whisper in chorus.
Somewhere in an alabaster mausoleum, resides an ornate urn containing what would have been a seventh voice.
Tumblr media
At the end of it all, President Coriolanus Snow smiles and he laughs with his entire chest like you’ve told him your funniest joke. Blood pours from his mouth like hot wax. His forked tongue doggy paddles in the little sea of crimson. A weathered hand with hard to spot cracks in the skin and light purple spots clasps itself firmly around the rose pinned to his suit. The wind seems to circle around Coriolanus Snow and he heaves a hearty chuckle when it ruffles through his hair. You’re with him even now as the foundations of your dynasty crumble and scatter over a stormy cliffside. A most welcomed and yearned for torment. His dearest specter.
Finally.
It seems even a Mockingjay’s tiny brain can manage.
It brings to mind the memory of another unfortunate like her. An Angel of Death from 11, tall and hunkered over. A flag being ripped from its rightful place and being pulled over rotting corpses. They were laid so closely together, they might as well have been a pack of sardines. There was ample meaning in his rustic burial, and there were snakes that suffocated it in their multicolored den. A precious rainbow after a great flood.
He’s not the only boy she reminds him of, but he’s unable to recall the second one’s name. A ghost that hovers on the edge of his mind.
Nevermind how useless her brief moment of assumed triumph will be. The games may be locked in a box in the minds of Panem and shoved away so they can be blissfully ignorant, but there will always be those in favor of them. What they represent will remain just as their purpose will prove itself once again when the people are governed by the rabid cannibals that ate them. Dogs can’t be trusted to be left to their own devices and off their leashes. Such deranged creatures were far better suited for being submerged in the violence of their own making.
Panem today. Panem tomorrow. Panem forever.
The soft dulcet tones of silenced voices ring out, something he once knew about a man who murdered three. The white fog fades away and Coriolanus wakes with a muffled shout to find himself in a raggedy bunk in an all too familiar building. his hands tremble but they look no different. with a disbelieving laugh he realizes that nothing has changed yet, that he has been rewarded for decades of dedication and devotion to Panem. That his herculean task others once thought of as sisyphean had been irrevocably realized.
3 daughters, 3 sons. Countless grandchildren. A legacy that will no doubt be remembered no matter the connotations associated with it.
Coryo’s heart is thundering like it did back then on that fateful day, and it does not slow by the time he’s shoved his things into a sack and hidden in the back of a truck. He could sway from the dizziness of deja vu. The truck soon comes to a stop and he clamors out of it, jumping out and racing however many yards he has to until he can spot his heart doing a terrible job of hiding behind a pillar. Anyone with a working set of eyes could discern the scarlet edges of your skirt swishing from side to side. They would have an unchallenging time seeing you suppress the urge to pick at the skin around your nails.
For the first time in over a year, Coriolanus Snow is utterly consumed by the urge to burst into tears. His beautiful beautiful dryad. The blood red dress he had ran himself ragged to buy clung to you like a lover as you twirled around nervously looking for him. Never in his life had a decision been so easy, so with a grateful chuckle and an embarrassingly giddy grin he bounds over to you. The light splintered through the trees nearby, the way it raked through your eyes and made them sparkle brought him fantastic grief. To him, they have never once lost that illustrious shine.
“I thought you’d never show up, Coryo. I was startin’ to worry a bit.”
Your hand feels like a delicious brand when it slips into his, impossibly soft and his cock throbs in his pants at the countless memories it elicits. In an apparent recreation of Pygmalion gazing upon the stone turned flesh form of Galatea, his love spills from him like a reopened wound. his Aphrodite on earth, his goddess with a never-ending number of rose petals in her hair.
“Not even a bullet in my back could keep me from you, dove.”
A garter snake slithers by between the two of you and before you can notice, Coryo swiftly crushes its head under the heel of his boot. The forest is blessedly silent. His world is kept from cleaving in two by the invisible string you’ve looped around his neck.
The putrid smell of the woods around you forces you to attempt to hide yourself gagging behind your hand. His lips twitch but he suppresses the urge to smile in that smug but infuriatingly hot way he knows you secretly love.
You’d better make quick work of getting over the mountains, you’re pregnant after all.
a/n: I’m sick and on bed rest (the cold is kicking my immune system’s ass) so wip progress has stopped but I had this in the drafts. call me Suzanne Collins because I tried with the naming symbolism. Please reblog if you liked it and yell at me about him if you want <3

Hi
Huge fan of your writing here. I was wondering if you had any ideas for a sequel to your ‘A Question of Precedence’ AU. No need to answer if you dont feel like just my imagination running wild lol but i was curious about how Feanor meeting Fingolfin, Finarfin, Lalwen and their wives and kids would go down. I imagine it would be strange to meet you brother who died as an infant (something which caused your father a lot of trauma and grief) as an adult with a wife and kid. What was their opinion on Feanor before Finwe was slain and Feanor reborn. Did they ever feel like their father loved them less?Would Feanor + siblings get along better in this AU or just about the same ? What was it like for Finwe to die and meet his son and ex wife only for them to leave to live with Vaire ? What was it like for Findis to raise her famously chaotic brother? Are they close? What’s it like for Indis to lose her husband and have his dead child brought back in his stead and then have said child raised to be king a title which previously belonged to her children. What would the relationship be between the sons of Feanor and their cousins ? how is Feanor viewed by those that stayed in Valinor and those that left especially after he chose to aid his kin in Beleriand.
This got a bit longer than intended so again no need at all to answer i just love your writing ❤️💕
Thank you so much! It took me a minute to remember that AU - it's been a while!
(For those who also don't remember, this was my AU in which Feanor died as an infant when Miriel did. All of his half-siblings except Findis still end up going to fight in Beleriand; Findis stays and ends up raising him when Feanor is released from the Halls. Feanor, for his part, ends up leading the reinforcements to Middle Earth.)
I think meeting Feanor is definitely strange for the siblings that went to Middle Earth, especially because of the circumstances. They are used to thinking of him as a Tragedy™, not a full grown force of nature riding to the rescue.
I do think they'd get along better in this AU; a Feanor raised reasonably well by Findis is not going to be raised to resent his siblings, and the attachment to his father that he was so afraid of the others usurping is going to look very different here. He also isn't worried about competing with the others for the crown; Findis raises him to know that it's his as soon as he's old enough, and the others aren't there to fight for it.
His relationship to Indis is still complicated, I think; she knows Finwe chose to remain dead in order to give him a chance to return, and part of her does resent that, but on the other hand, she's ashamed of resenting a baby for anything, especially that. The issues between her and Findis regarding Indis's perceived abandonment might actually cause as many issues between Feanor and her as the remarriage does.
For a long time, Feanor's sons have no relationship with their cousins, for obvious reasons. This changes with Fingon's resurrection; they are very, very eager to get to know him, and he is very, very eager to encourage them to go fight in Beleriand . . . though he feels a bit guilty about that. Whatever their actual ages, he can't help thinking they're too young to be dragged into this.
Once they get to Beleriand, their surviving cousins have an interesting mix of "Reinforcements! I love you!" and . . . possibly some resentment? Because they've been fighting this war all this time, and here their younger cousins come sweeping in, all shining and golden from Valinor to win the day without the centuries of hopeless warfare. Once they get to know them, some of those relationships improve.
(Some get worse.)
In general, the Noldor in Beleriand see Feanor as a hero and a particularly shining symbol of hope - if even Finwe's long lost son has returned, surely all darkness can be overcome! The ones in Valinor see him as less of a symbol, but he is still their respected king (though there might have been some dissent about showing up as reinforcements.)

Will be drawing the OG Ultimate Spider-Man team with some changes….
Tumblr media
The changes will be:
Ironfist will be an adult, not a teenager. And I will be mixing the way he was portrayed in the Ironfist Show and the comics because unpopular opinion, I loved the Ironfist show, he just seemed like a manchild trying to fit in, I got Buddy vibes….
Tumblr media
Also, loved the beard. And I can see Danny being drawn to teenagers because they’re the closest way to how he feels emotionally, like just watch the show, it seemed like he was a child in an adult’s body.
Power man will be Victor Alvarez because it feels right.
Tumblr media
I actually was first introduced to him in the Luke Cage show, he was just this little kid who followed Luke Cage around and worshipped him, he was like “Luke is the coolest person in the world, I want to be just like him when I grow up.” And the fanart will just be him as a teenager following the dream he had as a child.
And last but not least, Sam Alexander will have the most changes, firstly, his suit and helmet will be true to the comics and the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon….
Tumblr media
Given he’s clearly younger in USM as opposed to being 16 in both the comics and GotG cartoon….
Tumblr media
In the GotG cartoon, he’s more mature than in USM, sure he had his moments like crying for his dad when he was at work and pulling a prank on Drax by having Cosmo steal his corn dog. But it’s a gentle reminder he is still a kid, he isn’t going to act like an adult 24/7.
So, this lead to me that USM Sam was just Sam 3 years ago, when he was 13 and figuring out himself. And this will go to my next change to him, yep, he’ll have a baby strapped to his chest, his baby sister, Kaelynn….
Tumblr media
I say “baby” because I have already established she’s 3 years old, in the comics, she watches Barney, sometimes drinks from sippy cups, and will willingly walk in on her big brother while he’s sitting on the toilet to ask him to play with her. And in both the cartoon and comics, 85% of her appearances are her drinking milk, and given the way Eva behaves, I can tell Kaelynn is not weaned yet.
And in the GotG cartoon, she has the speech inflections of a 2 year old…
Tumblr media
Just watch the cartoon, she’s never speaking in complete sentences and screams when she drops her sippy cup.
So, it’s safe to assume in USM, Kaelynn was either an infant or hasn’t been born yet. And let me tell you this, in both the cartoon and comics, both of Sam’s parents work, his mother works at a restaurant and his father is a full-time Nova because of this, Sam has to babysit A LOT….
Tumblr media
And sometimes for over 24 hours because it’s also established Eva takes art classes too, possibly at a college or university.
Also, I don’t think Jesse doesn’t habitually take his children to work…
Tumblr media
I bet he only did it when they’re babies because he could just strap to them his chest and won’t have to worry about them wandering off. And he only did it when it was last resort, like if Eva’s working and he can’t find a babysitter, so he just has to take the baby to work because he does not what else to do, but it was that story when Sam was a baby because he just had to worry about getting a babysitter.
However, since Kaelynn was born when Sam was 13, Jesse and Eva can rely on their son to babysit and you can imagine bringing a baby to work was very hard on Jesse, like a phone call at work alone puts Jesse over the edge…
Tumblr media
In the cartoon, he sounded very harsh to Sam. So, imagine him back when he was a young dad, having to stop what he is doing to feed, change, and tend to a crying Baby Sam and hoping his boss doesn’t come and think he’s slacking off. I bet he even lost it when Sam woke up crying too.
So, given the way Jesse is like, Sam is who he relies on when he and his wife go to work once Kaelynn was born. And given Sam becomes nova around that time, he sees his dad a lot at work too so Jesse would cross paths with his daughter too.
There you go, Sam will have Baby Kaelynn strapped to his chest since he’d be babysitting now.
You will be expecting it soon.

BOOK - The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa
Final part of recapping the completed playthrough of this book!
So when we last left off, there had been an earthquake, and after that inhabitants of the island were starting to experience disappearance of their limbs, at least in their minds if not physically.
BOOK VERSION - Despite R's best efforts to keep her from disappearing, the main character disappears piece by piece until she is able to slip through the crevices around the door of the secret room without even opening the door. Then one day she enters the secret room and just never leaves again, continuing to disappear. The same day, R climbs out of the secret room. And the book ends there.
MY SIM VERSION - The way I got around the problems of representing this in sims was that the main character Aki got pregnant. She and R had often been woohooing at this point, which was canon in the book. Aki and R had twins Miyuki and Fuyuki. (Sidenote: Aki and Momiji are both Japanese names about autumn. Miyuki and Fuyuki are both Japanese names about winter.) I played it as if she had postpartum depression on top of the depressing events of losing the old man and the feelings of losing her identity after she could no longer write. She started to starve herself, and in that way, she was indeed disappearing bit by bit. R tried his best to help her but could not. Eventually she starved herself to death inside the secret room.
AN EPILOGUE OF WHAT HAPPENED IN GAME BEYOND THE BOOK'S END
As time went by, there were gradually fewer disappearances and the danger for R decreased. R and Aki's sister Momiji took care of the twins together. (No infants back then so toddlers already.) R was madly in love with these two and couldn't fathom parting with them, but he also felt a constant guilt about his eldest son who he hadn't seen in around 3 years by this point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I especially loved Miyuki's friendship with Don the dog. Whenever those two were on screen together I was like exCUSE mE?!? Did you two step out of Studio Ghibli?
Tumblr media
I forgot who reached out first, but eventually R and Rie arrange a meeting together when things seem safe enough to do so on the island.
Tumblr media
After a few drinks, he manages to tell her all of what happened during his time in hiding, including that he had twins with Aki and that she died soon after. This was a lot for Rie to hear all at once and she needed some time. But they stayed in contact. They take things slowly, starting with R regularly going to visit their son, S. Then, they begin to sometimes attend social functions together as a couple.
Tumblr media
At this point, the Snowy Escape pack came out which I reasoned in their sim lives meant that travel to and from their island was open again. R and Rie optimistically decide to have a fresh start by moving to Mt. Komorebi. Though she still has some mixed feelings, Rie agrees to the twins being part of the family.
On this drop dead gorgeous morning, Momiji hugged her adorable niece and nephew goodbye. As for Momiji, she was going to stay at the house she grew up in until she finished school, then see where life takes her. She was around 16 or 17 then.
Tumblr media
I built the new family of 5 this simple home in Mt. Komorebi
Tumblr media
R didn't know how S would feel about the twins. Though S was a little shy and kept to himself in the first few days, they were so warm towards him, following him around like ducklings and looking to him to be their ringleader, that it didn't take long for him to take on the role of their onii-chan (big brother).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Momiji was a resilient girl and managed well on her own for years. I say on her own, but she had Don by her side of course. However, she was full of memories whenever it snowed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that, I considered the playthrough finished and didn't have them in the rotation anymore. But I did go check on them a couple times more. When the twins aged up to children:
Tumblr media
Then Miyuki eventually got married (automatically because of MCCC). But I checked and he was a pretty decent guy. He is a businessman named Tobias Hearn who is neat and straight-edged, though a bit childish. He came with his own dog too, which really sold me that she ended up with a good person. And she looks happy.
Tumblr media
Checked back again when S became a young adult. Miyuki looks so proud of her big brother while mom looks like she's holding back tears.
Tumblr media
Recently, in Sim Year 50, S's own child has already aged up to toddler. So I'm like, ok ok. It's already a gen that's not even in the book. Let go already! I have to let some sims go or eventually there won't be space in the save! But I was still pretty sad when not long after I set them as unplayed, I discovered they moved out. Sometime after that, Momiji and Tobias moved out too. Only S is still in the game for now with his uninteresting wife who I can't be bothered to learn the name of and his little daughter Ryleigh. They live in San Myshuno where the Fengs used to live.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE END! I had to stray from the book more than I intended and the way things ended up is admittedly too heartwarming for the tone of the book. Even so, I ended up really loving the twins so no regrets in adjusting the plot when I couldn't fully show it in sims the way it was supposed to be in the book.
It's been really satisfying looking back through it from beginning to end. Hopefully I can reach the end of the current ongoing books too and be able to look back like this but they kinda have a long way to go...

-New Addition To The Family- Draco Malfoy x Female Reader
    ☼-☪-☼
Kody: some fluffy Draco for the soul
Request: Some cute fluff of Draco Y/n toddler scorp and their new baby @futuremrsmalfoy20
   House: N/A
Possible Triggers / Warnings: children, fluffy Draco, cursing
    ☼-☪-☼
(this story is going is not going to be long at all. Just something short and sweet)
today was the day you would bring your infant daughter home. You had been in the hospital for two days and were just about tired of the bright fluorescent lights and terrible food. You were standing outside the large wooden door that led you into your home with Draco and Themis in a baby carrier.
Draco had asked your mutual friend Pansy to watch Scorpius while he went to pick you up from the hospital despite her distaste towards children. Scorpius was her one exception and Themis as well. That’s why she was ‘Auntie Pans’ to Scorpius.
“Come on, let’s show Themis her home” Draco said from beside you, lifting the baby carrier up a bit so you could see Themis’s grey eyes. They were just like Draco’s. You nod once towards him and he smiles back at you. You reach for the handle and push the door open.
you are met with the sight of Pansy holding Scorpius in her arms staring back at you- but they weren’t the only ones there. Next to Pans was Theo and Blaise. “Welcome home Themis!” they all exclaimed in unison. You burst into a fit of laughter.
“I thought you two were busy?” you ask, referring to the couple Blaise and Theo. You had wanted them to meet Themis at the hospital, but they told you they had been behind in work that they needed to catch up on. “Surprise, we lied. Pansy planned for us all to be here on a certain day.” Blaise informs.
you nod once and turn your E/c eyes toward Pansy. She shrugs nonchalantly and walks over to you “Take this snot rocket” she says in mock disgust while handing you Scorpius who held his arms out wide as soon as he saw your face “Mommy!”
scooping him up in your arms, you turn your body towards Draco who was placing the baby carrier on the table so he could undo the buckle around Themis. “Daddy’s here too” you say and Scorpius giggles in response. He had yet to say the word dad, daddy, or any variation of that word.
Blaise, Theo, and Pansy both look over Draco’s shoulder “Finally, another girl around. We girls have been surrounded by testerone for years” Pansy comments. Draco shakes his head as he undoes the last buckle “Love you too Pans” he replies. She gives him a half smile.
“She looks like Y/n more then Draco” Theo points out, gesturing towards her face. Themis did indeed have more of your facial structure then her fathers, while Scorpius was a spitting image of your husband. “I thought they cloned Draco when i first saw Scorpius” Blaise adds, making Theo and Pansy snicker.
Draco rolls his eyes, lifting Themis from the baby carrier “I did not clone myself” he retorts. Pansy grins widely “Yeah guys. Scorpius is like bright and cheery and you were a little shit when you were a kid” You hold back laughter as you realize what’s coming next.
“Wait until my father hears about this!” all three of them say before going into laughing fits. Draco seemed unamused to say the least “I hate you all. Also Pansy you can’t curse around Scorpius, he repeats everything he hears. Pansy rolled her eyes “Everything, but Daddy huh?”
“ha ha ha. So comical, i’m putting Themis in her room” Draco held Themis’s head with his hand before leaving the room and down the hallway. All of you turned to follow Draco as well and into the nursery. Themis’s room was a mix of  green, black, and white.
    ☼-☪-☼
   a week later
you had almost forgotten how newborns love to wake you up in the middle of the night with crying and screaming. Wear protection kids. As you slept peacefully in your shared bed, you heard the wailing of your infant daughter. You shot up instantly.
Draco had his arm around you, so he was yanked up as well. Poor dude. “What the fuck- are you alright Y/n?!” he shouts, assuming the worst. You look at his worried expression. His platinum blond hair was a sticking out everywhere, making him look like a goof.
you held back a laugh “Sorry hun, Themis is crying i have to go check up on her-” as you spoke you then heard the crying of your other child Scorpius. Draco sighs with a small smile “I’ll check on Scorpius then, meet you back here?” he said, like you both were going on a mission. It was sweet.
you nod once. Draco slithers his hand behind your head to rest on the nape of your neck, pulling your face close to his. He leans in a kisses you sweetly. It only lasted a couple seconds, but you enjoyed it very much. “Alright” you say and both of you crawl out of bed.
    ☼-☪-☼
you walk out the bedroom door and turn to the left while Draco turns to the right. When you get closer you notice that the nursery door is open and you vividly remember closing it so the light from the hallway wouldn’t shine on Themis’s face and wake her up.
an uneasy feeling invaded your stomach as you approached the door. You push the rest of the door open and spot a strange sight. Scorpius was sitting in Themis’s crib holding her delicate head in his lap. They were both crying. What in the hell?
“Scorpius?” you say, nearing the crib. He looks up at you and points to Themis “Help” he cried out, making your heart tug. Who would want to see there baby cry- well both babies. You reach into the crib and lift Themis out. As soon as you grab her, you notice that the diaper she was wearing was full.
before you could even speak to Scorpius Draco comes busting into the room at full speed with his wand “I can’t find Scorpius! I looked around the house and every other room! I know that you told me that if i ever lost one of the kids you would leave me, but i don’t even know how to use that thing in the kitchen!”
   you bought a dishwasher
slowly moving to the side, you reveal Scorpius in the crib. Draco’s face that once was distraught was now revealed “Oh thank merlin” he breathed out, practically sinking onto the floor. It was kind of amusing. “Are you okay?” you ask, walking over to the changing station that was in the corner.
he stood up slowly “My whole life flashed before my eyes” he spoke, making you snort out a chuckle at the dramatic way of speaking. You lay Themis down and began to remove her onesie. “And?” you question. “Please don’t leave me. I know i was a little shit back in school, but i like to think i’ve grown”
“You have. I’m not going to leave you, you goof now go console your son please” you say, turning you head to give him a side glance before going back to changing Themis. Draco nods and walks over to the crib “Hey little one” he said as he reached into the crib.
Scorpius held out his arms, grabbing onto Draco as soon as he picked him up “Now why were you in here Scorp?” Draco questions with a small pout. “I think he was trying to help Themis, but didn’t know how” you said, putting a new diaper onto Themis.
Draco smiled brightly, poking at Scorpius’s stomach playfully “I’m glad he’s already trying to help his sister like a good big brother” he praises. Scorpius’s frown turned into a bright smile and giggles cutely. Super adorable. “Just like you, super protective” you say, lifting Themis from the table.
Draco rolls his eyes “I’m not super protective” he snaps back. You raise a brow at what he just said “You punched Harry in the face when he was wiping dust off my robe” you say and watch as Draco begins to sputter “I thought he was grabbing your ass okay? what was is supposed to do?”
   “Not punch him?”
“Well-” He closed his mouth, unable to come up with anything to say “Whatever” he mumbles. You smile and walk towards the loveseat in the corner of the room “Alright i need to feed her. Can you take Scorpius back to bed for me?” you ask.
Draco shrugged “It’s not like i haven’t seen those before” He said, referring to your breast. You narrow your eyes, something that scared Draco. “Okay okay. Scorpius say goodnight to mommy” he crouched down next you. Scorpius grabs your face with his tiny hands and kisses your cheek “Mwah!”
you chuckle at his super cute behaviour. He gives you a toothy grin “G’night mommy!” he speaks and your heart just melts “Goodnight Scorpius”

   the next morning
you awoke to the sound of children's laughter, which was pretty sweet to wake up to in hindsight. You sit up in your bed and turn to face Draco, but he wasn’t there. Strange sense it was a weekend and Draco was usual the one to sleep in on these days.
deciding to investigate you pull the black duvet off of your body and push yourself to sit up. As soon as your straightened your back you smelt something- delicious. You couldn’t decipher what, but it smells wonderful. So wonderful that your stomach began to rumble.
you throw your legs over the side of the bed. You stand up, the air nipping at your skin and causing goosebumps. You look around and spot your light grey hoodie you had gotten from Pansy and slip it over your sports bra and black and white flannel pants.
you let out a yawn as you walk across the cold hard wood floor that lined the hallway. it was definitely too early considering there were no signs of Narcissa. She usually stayed over on weekends to watch the kids so you and Draco could go do something together- but you both ended up just sleeping in.
children tire you out like that
as you made your way to the stairs the children's laughter got louder and closer. Was everybody downstairs? You start to walk down the steps, rubbing the tired feeling away from your eyes. Once you reach the last step you turn the corner to see a very- funny view.
Scorpius was sat in his booster seat munching on food while Themis was in her cradle, shaking around a toy hippogriff that Pansy had gotten her as a joke. You named it ‘Chicken’. It is just as funny as Scorpius’s stuffed white ferret that she also got him. His name is ‘Dray’
   Pansy is a great aunt
After looking at that you see Draco at your kitchen stove frying up what looked like sausages. “Draco?” you spoke and watched your platinum blond husband almost trip over his own feet in shock. Once he turned around you noticed he was wearing a apron that had a floral pattern on it. It was Narcissa’s.
he musters up a smile as he leans against the counter, spatula in hand “Hey there darling. How did you sleep?” he asked and you shrug, smiling “Just fine- um, what’s all this?” you question, making your way around the table. He smiles and turns back to the pan.
“Breakfast” he states confidently. You look at the table and notice all the food, eggs, toast, jam, hash browns. It was impressive, but suspicious “Since when can you cook? You almost burnt the house down when i asked you to boil noodles”
he rolls his eyes as he plates the sausages on a plate “Mother has been coming over early to teach me so i could be a ‘proper husband’ as she says. Plus you cook for us all the time and with the new baby i felt you needed a break” he explains.
Draco grabs your hand and lifts it to his mouth. He kisses your knuckles lightly which made you smile “Thank you Draco” you say. He sends you a wink before placing the plate with all the other food “Now eat before it gets cold” he adds. You nod and go over to sit down next to Scorpius’s booster seat.
you look at what he was eating and notice he was chewing on french toast. You look up at him and grab his tiny pale hand “Now who made you that delicious food?” you ask in a playful manner. Scorpius gets visibly excited and points his other hand at Draco.
   “Daddy!”
you and Draco both freeze. The one word Scorpius refused to say was just spoken. You look over at Draco and notice his expression falter before a big smile came to his face “Yes! Pansy owes me galleons!” he shouts excitedly. You shake your head considering he was already insanely wealthy.
but he probably just wanted to prove Pansy wrong. “That’s what your thinking about?” you ask. Draco looks at you and shakes his head, walking over “Not just that. I’m very happy. I’m happy that Scopius said dad and I’m happy that i have a healthy children” he spoke before crouching down beside you.
“and i’m happy that i have a beautiful wife that stuck around for so long. Even with all my family issues and shitty attitude” Draco looks up at you with a loving smile. What a cheesy dork you thought. You lean down and he follows along as you both kiss. It was short and sweet, but you cherished it nonetheless.
“Now sit in a seat so we can eat” you spoke, pulling back from him
he stands up and takes a seat next to you and Themis’s cradle “Yes ma’am”

Everything Undesired chapter 6
Chapter 5
Mammon made it home in record time. He was like a man on a mission with how he marched through the house. He could hear Cyrus crying and he froze.
“No.” he told himself, “No, you are not stopping. Get. Over. It.” The demon forced himself to carry on towards Arella’s bedroom. He could hear her singing softly to the baby as he started to settle down.
“See? It’s okay.” she cooed as she leaned down to press a kiss to Cyrus’ forehead. “I know you miss your daddy, but he has to get his grades back up. We have to be patient and wait for him to get home.”
Cyrus only looked up at his adoptive mother, letting little coos and chirps out as he wiggled around in her arms.
“Arella.” Mammon called, surprising her a little.
“Mammon!” She smiled. “How was your day? I thought you’d be staying later... Is everything alright?”
“No,” the demon replies. “Nothing is alright. This isn’t fair to you. Cyrus is my kid. I’m the one who said I’d keep him and I’m making you do all the work? That’s horrible, don’t ya think?”
“What? No, I don’t mind this.” She smiled, trying to reassuring her partner. “You help enough, Love. It’s not like-”
“No, I don’t help nearly as much as I should. I’m only able to keep him when he’s quiet but the minute my own child starts cryin’, I push him off on someone else- usually you. I’ve been such a terrible mate and an even worse father and for what? Somethin' that’s not even his fault?! I’m bein’ ridiculous. I’ve put all this weight on your shoulders when I shouldn’t have.” His voice began to rise with each word, unknowingly transforming into his demon form which scared Cyrus.
The infant began crying loudly as he hid his face against Arella’s chest. She immediately tried to calm him as the Avatar of Greed rushed forward to them returning to a more human-like appearance.
“Let me have him.” He frowned. Scaring his son was the last thing he wanted.
Arella would only nod as she handed the boy off to his father, watching carefully for any signs of distress from her boyfriend or from Cyrus.
“I’m sorry, Buddy.” Mammon lowers his voice to a softer, quieter tone as he bounced the baby in his arms- a trick that often worked well with Satan during his infancy, “I didn’t mean to scare ya. Please don’t cry.”
His movements were tense at first but soon relaxed as Cyrus started to wind down. Once the boy was calmer, his face buried in his father’s neck which made him stiffen briefly, a grimace on his face as he fought the impulse to pull away.
“Mammon,” she started, “please, don’t force yourself to take care of the baby. It won’t end well.”
“Don’t worry, babe,” he looked to her, “If I don’t make myself do this, I’ll never be able to get past it. I’ll keep him for the rest of the night. I’m sure ya have things ya wanna do, right?”
“I mean I do have homework, but I really don’t want to do that right now,” She admits. “Maybe... we could do something together? Maybe go out with the baby or shopping?”
“It has been a while since you’ve really left the house,” he nodded. The idea of them going out and doing the things normal families do was tempting, he had been longing for that kind of thing. “I’ll get him fed and get him dressed in warmer clothes while you go get ready.”
Arella nodded as she gathered up some clothes and headed to the shower to wash up.
Mammon looked down at his child who still had his face buried in the crook of his father’s neck. The demon padded over to where Arella had been keeping the formula and started to make a bottle for him. It was a lot harder to make a bottle while also holding an infant than he remembered- maybe because Satan wasn’t as squirmy as Cyrus was. He knew the boy was just trying to get comfortable but it was making his stomach twist and tie in knots as he feared he might drop the child. How much did infants take at feedings again? Was it three ounces, two?
Just to be safe, he grabbed the container of formula and went into the kitchen to fill three ounces of water into the bottle before adding the powder and shaking the bottle to mix it together. He ran it under warm water for a bit and tested on his skin it to make sure it wasn’t too hot for Cyrus.
He readjusted the little one in his arms as he gave him the bottle, holding it at an angle where the baby couldn’t take too much too fast. When Cyrus wouldn’t eat anymore, Mammon pulled the bottle way to see how much he’d actually taken. His eyes widened in alarm when he saw how little his son had actually eaten.
“An ounce?” he asked as he looked down at Cyrus with a worried expression. “No wonder you’re always cryin’, kid. Ya gotta be starvin’. Do ya just not like the taste of formula? Is that why you’re not eatin’ enough?” He tried to offer the bottle back to his son, but Cyrus only turned his head away and let out a whine. “Ya really ain’t going to eat any more than that, huh?” He grabbed a kitchen towel and placed it over his shoulder as he laid his son up against his shoulder.
He started to pat Cyrus on the back until he heard a few burps from the child. The white-haired demon pulled the towel off his shoulder and placed it in the wash basket in the laundry room as he readjusted the infant in his arms so he was cradled in Mammon’s arms. He took a few moments to really look at Cyrus for the first time since he was brought home. The Avatar of Greed knew he was lucky sometimes, but he never really processed just how much Cyrus looked like him. As unfortunate as he was to experience what he had at the hands of the witches, the fact that his son had absolutely no traits from his biological mother- whichever one of them that may have been- was a miracle.
“Ya really are my little mini me, aint’cha?” He let a small smile grace his lips, “This might work then. I really could pretend you were always ‘Rella’s kid with me...” He brushed a thumb over the baby’s cheek and felt a warm feeling start to form in his chest as Cyrus’ tiny hand came up to grasp his thumb and he smiled at Mammon for the first time. He felt tears start to gather in the corners of his eyes at the thought. “Our baby...”
The sound of that made the demon hopeful and ultimately, he was glad he forced himself to do this. All he wanted was to be a good father despite everything. He wanted to give his son the loving home he deserved- one he knew the child wasn’t going to get with the witches.
“I’m lettin’ ya know right now kid, your old man can be a real idiot sometimes and I know I’m gonna make some mistakes with ya- I already made a couple- but I think you’re gonna turn out just fine...”
“I think you’re going to do just fine too, Mammon. You’re already on the right path.”
Mammon’s head shot up at the sound of his older brother’s voice as Lucifer came to join him, leaning back against the counter as he looked down at Cyrus.
“This really was the best-case scenario. He could have had any mix of features and yet he turned out looking exactly like you.”
“It really is a miracle, huh?” The second-born smiled. “I don’t think I could have done this otherwise, ya know?”
“I agree. I’m ashamed to say, but if he had looked anything like one of them, I would have killed him on the spot regardless of your wishes. As impossible a choice as it was, I would have put your well-being above all else- including the life of an innocent child.”
“I know you would have. That’s what makes you such a great older brother, ya know? No matter what kind of trouble the six of us seem to get ourselves into, when it really matters, you’re always there to save the day. You always have the answers.”
“For a moment that night, I didn’t.” The first-born admits. “After finding out what happened to you all I felt was wrath and guilt... I introduced you to those horrible women all those years ago when you were looking for a place for that human girl. Back then I could have never guessed it would lead to all of this... and then when we heard Cyrus for the first time, I couldn’t believe it at first.”
Mammon only nodded at that. “I’m glad you didn’t though. Things may be rough right now- I may not be able to completely separate him from the events of those nights, right now- but I think as long as I keep pushin’ myself to do this, it’ll happen eventually. That I’ll be able to love him at some point... All I want is to do right by him, Lucifer. All of us aside from Satan know what it’s like to have a father that never loved us apart from our usefulness as the seven virtues... And I always told myself that if I ever had a kid at some point that I would show them all the love that the old man never gave us.”
Lucifer let out a chuckle at that, “To be honest, I don’t think he even loved us in that aspect either. If he really did, he wouldn’t have sentence Lilith to death. We wouldn’t have had to wage war with him. The only ones who ever loved us were the angels who carried us until our births.”
“Yeah, but the war was inevitable, Lil was just the last straw- for all of us.”
The brothers were silent for a time, the only sounds that could be heard be heard coming from Cyrus as he purred in contentment.
“I’m gonna see if Arella’s ready and get him dressed in some warmer clothes. She wants us to go out with Cyrus and I don’t know ‘bout you, but I think it’s high time to show him off.”
“Have a good time then,” the eldest nodded with a soft smile as his brother headed back to Arella’s room.

Sooo I know I’m abusing the power you gave me (let me send prompts) but I’ve a very good reason, I promise (I’ve Nie brothers feelings and I love your writing) and I need to ask for this “5 times everyone realises that actually NMJ is the pushover in the Nie brothers relationship bc let’s be honest NMJ let’s NHS get away with everything and every time NMJ tries to get NHS to do something he has to bribe him with fans or resign himself to never get that done” and I find that hilarious :p
1
“Your sons have quite a good relationship, Sect Leader Nie,” Jiang Fengmian remarked, but the man didn’t look especially impressed by the compliment.
“Especially given that they’re half-brothers,” Jin Guangshan added, and Jiang Fengmian sighed internally: the addition made the original statement into a taunt, which hadn’t been what he meant at all. “Rare to see such a good relationship in such cases.”
“Would you know?” Wen Ruohan asked, smiling poisonously. “And here I thought you had only one.”
“I’ve tasted pork; I don’t need to know how to butcher a pig. Look at how the older one lets the younger one around follow him around everywhere – certainly I wouldn’t have tolerated such a thing for one so much younger than me.”
“I always liked playing with others,” Jiang Fengmian said mildly. “The bigger the family, the better, in my view…it’s nice to help and be helped.”
“I don’t think the infant being carried around is doing that much helping,” Lan Qiren observed.
“And yet he’s clearly the one calling the shots,” Wen Ruohan mused, his eyes settling on the field where the two were playing – or rather, the toddler was demanding a ride and his older brother complying. “Given how stiff-necked the Nie family is, traditionally, it must be very reassuring to you, Sect Leader Nie, to see your son so – compliant.”
Sect Leader Nie abruptly changed the subject.
Later, he came to Jiang Fengmian, an expression of fury on his face. “It’s not any of my business, so I don’t care what’s going on with your search for that servant of yours and his family,” he said icily. “But I’ll thank you to focus on rearing your own children, and stop drawing unwanted attention to mine.”
Jiang Fengmian felt rather unjustly accused. It was true, he’d been thinking of Wei Changze’s son – of how well he’d get along with his own A-Cheng, if only Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren could be convinced to stop traveling around and come home for a little – but there was no reason for old Nie to be so snippy. There had only been the five great sect leaders around; what was he so worried about?
2
“You can’t be serious,” Lan Xichen said, pressing his lips together to try to restrain his laughter and altogether incapable of restraining his smile.
His smile only grew when Nie Mingjue’s shoulders rose up somewhere around his ears in embarrassment.
“I don’t see what the problem is,” he replied stiffly, and then he actually bought the – product.
Lan Xichen managed to hold himself back as they continued down the shopping street, and finally when they were back on the unoccupied path back to the Unclean Realm he let out a peal of laughter.
Nie Mingjue shot him a sidelong glare.
“Little Huaisang has you completely under his thumb,” Lan Xichen laughed. “You’re always buying him things, every time I see you – if it’s not new fans to add to his collections, it’s another animal for his little menagerie –”
“It’s not a menagerie.”
“He has a half-dozen birds, a mated pair of pangolins, and that – that beast you got for him –”
“The boar?” Nie Mingjue asked. “I didn’t buy that, I found it, and anyway the plan is to release it back onto the mountain once it gets a little larger.”
Lan Xichen waved his hand, dismissing Nie Mingjue’s little technicalities. “All that’s fair enough,” he says, laughter still in his voice and his eyes still curved up into crescents. “I would buy Wangji anything he liked, if only he had more hobbies. But even I would draw the line at purchasing my little brother erotic art.”
“He likes it,” Nie Mingjue said defensively.
“Oh, I’m sure he does,” Lan Xichen said, trying to move his eyebrows suggestively like he’d seen someone do once. Judging from Nie Mingjue’s mildly horrified expression, he wasn’t successful. “Still, don’t you think you’re sending him mixed messages? On one hand, you’re always yelling at him about not practicing his saber enough, and on the other you’re spoiling him rotten –”
“He hasn’t formed a golden core yet,” Nie Mingjue said abruptly, and Lan Xichen’s smiled faded. “Yes, still. It’s late, no matter what standard you hold him to – forget the Great Sects, forget regular sects, even by the children of rogue cultivators usually have the basics of a core by now.”
Lan Xichen didn’t know what to say. Lan Wangji had formed his core very early, earliest out of all his generation in fact – he had never had to worry about his brother’s cultivation, not once.
He wanted to tell his friend not to worry, that it would come in time, that Nie Huaisang would catch up…but he was right, it was late. In another year, they would be sending out invitations for select people to come study at the Cloud Recesses, where Nie Huaisang had been a few times before, but this time would be the first time all the sect heirs were in a single place.
If he didn’t have his core by then, there was a chance he’d never get it. That he’d live only the short life of a common person, shorter even than the shortened life of a Nie cultivator –
That Nie Mingjue would have to watch his baby brother grow old and send him off first.
“So I buy him things,” Nie Mingjue concluded with shrug that was anything but casual. “More things than he needs. If he finally forms a core, there’ll be time enough then to teach him discipline – and if he doesn’t, well. At least he’ll be happy for the few years he’ll have.”
3
“The answer is still no,” Nie Mingjue said, just he had said the first few times, and without paying the slightest attention to the table Jiang Cheng had just overturned.
“Why not?” Jiang Cheng snarled, incensed. “If we join forces together and win, we’ll strike a blow against the Wens that will be felt across the land –”
“And if we lose, the damage will be incalculable,” Nie Mingjue said, unmoved. He didn’t look up from the correspondence he was reviewing. “We didn’t come here expecting to find a Wen stronghold; neither of us brought enough people. No.”
Jiang Cheng sneered. “We didn’t bring enough people, no, but there are enough at hand if there weren’t exceptions being made.”
Nie Mingjue paused and finally put down the letter, turning to look at Jiang Cheng. “If you have something to say, just say it.”
“Nie Huaisang isn’t that far away, with plenty of cultivators acting as guards at his side,” Jiang Cheng said, crossing his arms. “If you summoned them, we’d have enough to tip the scales in our favor. But you don’t, just because he doesn’t feel like fighting – why do you let him walk all over you?!”
Nie Mingjue looked at him for a long moment, his gaze dark and angry.
Jiang Cheng began to feel as if he’d made a mistake, but it was too late to retract his harsh words.
“Very well,” Nie Mingjue said, and Jiang Cheng began to brighten. “I’ll write to Meishan while I’m at it; your sister can come bring along the ones who are guarding her, too.”
Jiang Cheng blanched. “You can’t! Jiejie can’t –”
“Why not? Her cultivation is mediocre, but no more so than my brother’s,” Nie Mingjue said, and he was very angry. “Or are you going to say that she’s the only one left in your family but you? That you don’t want the Wens to have a chance to take even more of your family away? Isn’t all that just as true for me?!”
Jiang Cheng hung his head.
“We’re fighting this war to win it,” Nie Mingjue said. “There’s no point in winning if we lose everything on the way. Get out and talk a walk; I don’t want to see you until you’ve beaten some sense into that thick head of yours.”
4
“Da-ge, you know you can’t keep the secret of the saber spirits from Huaisang forever,” Jin Guangyao said, and his voice was reasonable as it always was – calm and even and to the point, just the way that Nie Mingjue had liked so much when he’d been his deputy.
The tone mostly just irritated Nie Mingjue now – but then, most things did, these days.
“I’m aware of that,” Nie Mingjue said, scowling. His fingers were pressing at his temples – another headache, it seemed. They were happening more and more these days, and that didn’t help the quality of his temper one bit. “He doesn’t need to know all the details yet. He’ll have to bear the burden eventually, but – not yet.”
Jin Guangyao chuckled. “You always let what he wants make decisions for you, da-ge.”
Nie Mingjue ignored him. That was normal, too.
“Let me play for you again, da-ge,” Jin Guangyao said, and his smile broadened. “It might help your headache.”
5
Wei Wuxian was of the opinion that disturbing the unquiet corpses that had been sealed in the Guanyin Temple in Yunping City was a terrible idea, but sometimes you had to make sacrifices when politics became an issue. The once-more-ascendant-Nie-sect-is-asking-only-somewhat-politely sort of politics.
Every once in a while, Wei Wuxian cursed Nie Mingjue in the back of his mind. Surely, if he hadn’t spoiled Nie Huaisang so much, he wouldn’t have become so demanding – so insistent!
(So incredibly good at finding just the right weak spot to press on…!)
“Your brother is still going to be a fierce corpse when we open that thing,” he said. “You know that, right? He didn’t recognize you then, he won’t recognize you now – he’s an extremely powerful fierce corpse, which is going to make it very hard to control him right away. There’s a great deal of danger involved in being here.”
Nie Huaisang nodded. “I appreciate the warning, Wei-xiong.”
“In light of that,” Wei Wuxian continued. “Don’t you think you should watch from further away?”
“I’m fine. Thank you for your concern.”
Wei Wuxian sighed and lifted Chenqing to his lips, nodding at Lan Wangji, and together they set about unsealing the tomb.
Nie Mingjue’s corpse was just as overwhelming as he remembered, bursting out of the tomb a few moments before they expected it, and the backlash was enough to make Wei Wuxian, with his weak golden core in this life, cough up blood, which in turn made Lan Wangji stop everything to look at him, which meant that there was nothing between Nie Mingjue’s outstretched fingers, curled into claws, and Nie Huaisang, standing there with nothing but a fan in hand.
Wei Wuxian opened his mouth to – he didn’t know what, to try something to save someone who really had once been his friend, however he’d ended up and whatever he’d done, and who he still rather liked and who’d had pretty good reasons for things and who at any rate he didn’t want to see dead at the hands of his own brother –
Nie Mingjue’s clawed fingers stopped only a hair’s breadth away from Nie Huaisang’s head.
Wei Wuxian’s breath caught in his throat.
A moment passed, and then another – and then the direction of Nie Mingjue’s hand shifted, and he ran his fingers through Nie Huaisang’s hair with a delicacy that Wei Wuxian, an expert on all things resentful energy, had never thought a white-eyed fierce corpse was capable of.
Nie Huaisang smiled, content. “Da-ge has always let me get away with everything.”

Dark Power Pt. 8
Read Part 7 HERE!
Summary: Y/N is about to figure out the source of what has been causing the incidents she’s been having, giving everyone a scare.
Word Count: 1,919
Tumblr media
Sam sat down the next morning to tell Y/N his theories.
“So, you know the dream you explained to me, the one you keep having?”
Y/N nodded.
“I’m pretty sure I had the exact same dream last night.” Y/N looked at Sam with a weirded out expression.
“Uh, when you saw the girl and the baby, were they in an apartment? The walls, were they a beige color with dark green curtains?” Sam tried to get Y/N to remember.
“Yeah.... how’d you know?”
“Because I saw what you saw, and I know what it means.” Sam breathed.
“You mean, you know what can stop this?”
“No, not necessarily. But I know what happened to you.”
“What did happen to me?” Y/N wasn’t aware something happened to her to make her like this. She thought she was born like this.
“That baby in your dream, that was you. And the blonde, that was Uh, that was Jessica.” Sam sighed.
“Wait, Jessica your girlfriend that we used to live with?”
“Yes.” Sam clarified.
“So that thing in my dream did something to me as a baby? So I was fine before?” Y/N got upset.
“That’s what it looked like, I think whatever it did when it touched you, made you have some sort of ability that you didn’t know you had. Maybe that’s why you can’t control it right now, because you haven’t acknowledged it or something.” Sam thought.
“I don’t want to deal with this. How do I get rid of it?” Y/N worried.
“Sweetheart, you have to understand something. From the things that have been happening to you, they look like something that is a little out of my control. I don’t want you to worry about this, I’ll see if I can find something to help. But until we know what this is I just need you to be calm and act as if nothing is happening.”
“So there is something after me, isn’t there.....”
Sam remained silent. He didn’t want to face the truth.
“Is it something that involves your hunting job?”
Sam looked at Y/N with surprise. “Dad, it’s okay. I kind of understand what’s going on. And yeah, it is a little scary but I’ll do my best to keep it on the low. Just please help me get rid of it.” Y/N said.
Sam brought Y/N into a hug and held her tight. Y/N’s face was smushed against Sam’s chest. “When did you become so smart?” Sam let out a stressful but relieved sigh.
...................
Sam had talked to Dean about what he had discovered. Dean thought it was crazy, but he was ready to help.
“Okay, Dean is on the way over here with someone who might be able to help. Now, whatever weird stuff happens, just go with it. Unless I say something.”
Y/N looked surprised when Sam said that. About an hour later, there was a knock on the door. Sam opened it to reveal Dean and a woman standing next to him. She was short, had bright red hair, and wore a long lacey dress.
“Sam, this is Rowena.” Dean said before being abruptly cut off.
“Oh, this is your wee little brother you were telling me about? He’s a much taller fella than I imagined.” Rowena cheered in her Scottish accent.
“Oh and is this your sweet niece? It’s a pleasure to meet you deary.”
Y/N showed a small smile. “So yeah, uh she knows about the whole thing, so uh let’s get to work.” Dean was ready. Sam pulled Dean aside.
“Who is this woman and what does she do?” Sam asked eagerly.
“I know she’s a little out there, but she’s a witch.”
“A witch?!” Sam yelled in a whisper.
“Yes, but she’s a very well known witch and she’s very powerful. She’s done some good work and I think she’ll be able to help us.” Dean explained.
“Okay. But if she pulls anything-“
“She’ll be fine, I told her Y/N is still new to all this stuff so she’ll take it easy.” Dean reassured.
“Shall we get started?” Rowena announced. Sam and Dean looked at each other, Sam and Y/N gave each other looks.
“So, she’s going to help me get rid of this thing?” Y/N asked Sam.
“Well, we I don’t know what I’m working with yet.” Rowena interrupted. “Come sit here my dear. I’m going to stir up a few things for you, once the potion flows through your veins, I’ll be able to connect to you and see what we’re dealing with.” Rowena explained.
“Potion? What am I gonna turn into something?”
Rowena laughed as she gathered her supplies to create her mixture. While she was busy explaining to Y/N what she was going to do, Sam and Dean discussed the situation. “You think this is, what a demon? What if it’s Azazel?” Sam breathed.
“The same one that went after mom?” Dean confirmed.
“Well, yeah maybe. I mean first mom, then Jess. Now this whole thing with her, I’m just worried he's trying to finish what he started.” Sam fretted.
“Don’t talk like that. Whatever this is, we’re gonna fix it. That’s what we do, and I won’t stand by and watch your kid suffer because of some son of a bitch demon.” Dean emotions and anger started to get the best of him.
“Here, drink!” Rowena handed a cup to Y/N. She held it and hesitantly drank the liquid, she made a face of disgust after swallowing it.
“It should be affective now, let’s see what’s going on.” Rowena placed her hands on Y/N’s head and closed her eyes. “Try to remember the dream you had that Dean told me about.”
Y/N closed her eyes and tried to think of the shadow man, and the feeling she felt whenever she saw him. Rowena’s eyebrows furrowed as she leaned her head closer in.
The two sat like that for a few minutes, Rowena started swaying and humming. Sam looked at Dean with a questionable look. Rowena jumped all of a sudden with a loud gasp, Y/N opened her eyes and leaned back on her chair.
“What did you see?” Dean asked.
Rowena paced as the three Winchesters sat down in front of her. “Please explain to us what you saw.” Sam asked.
“There was a banshee.” Rowena spoke.
“A damn banshee? Wouldn’t she be dead by now?” Dean asked.
“Did you hear any screaming in your Dream?” Sam asked Y/N.
“What? No. What the heck is a banshee?”
“The banshee wasn’t after her. It’s what she was seeing in her dream, but it was trying to warn her.” Rowena explained.
“Why would a banshee try to warn someone, that’s really unusual.” Sam thought.
“Well, Dean my dear, you were right.” Rowena said.
“Right about what?”
“It was him.... The banshee was trying to warn her about him.”
“It was Azazel.” Rowena said softly as she looked at the three of them.
“What’s Azazel? What’s a banshee? Can someone tell me what’s going on!” Y/N started to worry.
Sam took a deep breath and readied himself to explain. “A banshee is a creature, usually they appear to warn people when they are about to die-”
“I’m gonna die?!” Y/N gulped.
“No, Y/N you're fine. That’s what banshee’s usually do. But from the look of your dream, the one that I was able to see, it was trying to warn you about Azazel. He is a demon.” Sam paused to let Y/N understand.
“So there's a monster trying to warn me about another monster? And Azazel is a demon? Why are they after me?”
“Remember the story I told you about your grandmother, Mary?”
“Yeah, the whole thing with the house fire....”
“The fire wasn’t an accident. I was going to tell you about that eventually, once I told you about hunting and everything. Azazel is a demon that killed your grandfather, John. Your grandmother made a deal with Azazel. He would bring John back, but that meant he would have to come after Mary. He’s the one that started the fire.”
“So why is he after me? I didn’t make a deal with him.....”
“Yes but, he is the one that visited you when you were a wee baby. He is the reason that you’ve been experiencing these abilities.” Rowena added.
“So all of this is happening because some demon came after me as an infant. Why is he doing this?”
“I think if Azazel did this to her when she was that young, and she’s been fine up until this point..... I don’t think he’s trying to kill her. I think he’s been planning something.” Dean explained.
“Are you able to find out why?” Sam motioned to Rowena.
“I wish I could. All I can do is see who or what it is. There is one thing I can sense..... Y/N has some sort of spell that she is under.” Rowena said.
“What kind of spell?” Y/N asked.
“I’m not so sure. If I got a little bit of blood and put it together with a few things, I could try and extract the spell from her.”
“How dangerous is that?” Sam’s parent instincts kicked in.
“Not harmful at all! Aside from the fact that we would need to take some of her blood.” Rowena added.
“Can we try it dad?” Y/N asked, sounding hopeful.
Sam sighed. “We can try one time, but I’m not gonna have her be a test subject or anything.”
“You think I’m that unexperienced of a witch where I’d need a second try? Please, step aside.” Rowena snarked.
Sam raised his hands as he let Rowena gather her supplies. She mixed a few herbs into a bowl and added some vials of liquid. “Give me your hands.” Rowena said as she and Y/N grasped hands over the bowl. She said a brief part of the spell and pulled out a small knife. Before Y/N could blink, Rowena sliced the skin across her palm.
“Ow!” Y/N cried out.
“Rowena, what the hell!” Sam yelled.
“Relax, where else do you want me to take it from? I’m not going to go cut up her arms.” Rowena breathed.
Y/N winced as Rowena squeezed her hand above the bowl, letting blood drip into it. As she was done cleaning and wrapping gauze around her bloodied hand, she grasped them again and said the rest of the spell. The bowl started to emit some light, the light started to ascend into the air above and hovered towards Y/N.
She looked up at Rowena with a questionable look. “I feel something.”
“That means the spell is working.”
The light grew brighter, as it got closer to Y/N she started to feel a pain in her chest. It grew stronger and stronger and led her to toppling over. “What’s happening?!” Sam grew worried as he rushed to Y/N’s side.
“The spell is too powerful, I don’t think it can be taken from her....” Rowena sensed.
“Cut it out!” Dean yelled as Y/N fell into more pain. Rowena grabbed a mallet and smashed the bowl into pieces, stopping the light from shining. Y/N gasped as the pain was finally relieved and sat up, falling into Sam’s arms. “It’s okay, I gotcha.”
“What’s the deal?” Dean asked.
“That’s what I’m trying to figure out...” Rowena answered.
“Winchesters!” A voice sounded from the room. The four of them all looked around the room and spotted a man standing in the doorway.
“It’s been a while.....” Azazel spoke.

The door opened with a slam and closed with a click, Dick peeking over the doorway, his face lightening up upon seeing his children enter the home. However, a frown replaced his smile when he saw Thomas throw his bag to the side, Marie watching her twin brother with a pursed lip and worried eyes.
“-maybe he can help.” Marie whispered, trying to grab Thomas’ hand only to get it slapped away.
“Dad?” Thomas scoffed, dragging his hand down his face before flinging his hand in the direction of the kitchen. “That happy-go-lucky guy? Bet he’s never had to deal with this shit before.”
“It doesn’t hurt to try.” Marie urged, holding Thomas’ hand into her own. “Maybe he can-”
“He won’t and will not. And you better not tell him about any of this.” Thomas gritted, jerking his hand away from Marie, his eyes landing on his father who was now standing at the foyer of the house, a smile plastered on his face.
How long was he there for? How much did he know?
“So, how was school?” Richard asked, leaning on the wall, watching as Marie fidgeted under his watch while Thomas muttered something, averting his attention.
“It was alright.” Thomas started, picking up his school bag and threw it over his shoulder. “Aced my midterms if that helps.” Richard’s smile grew, Thomas wanting to roll his eyes as his father walked over to him and hugged him, ending the interaction by ruffling his midnight hair.
“Definitely wonderful news! Worth celebrating over! Might have to call your mo-”
“He got in a fight.” Marie blurted out, her gaze on the floor, her fists trembling at her side, her name hissed out of her brother.
“A fight?” Richard asked, Thomas rolling his eyes, feeling a bit ashamed when his father’s eyes narrowed. “With who-”
“It’s nothing you should be concerned about,” Thomas said, walking up the stairs to slowly retreat to his room. “No-thing,” Thomas enunciated each syllable.
“Stop lying Thomas,” Marie said, her voice wavering. She looked at her father with bluebell eyes, round and filled to brim with unshed tears. Richard’s heart ached. They looked just like hers. “He got in a fight with-”
“Marie.” Thomas sternly growled, watching his sister tense up. “Not. Now.”
“Thomas, let her-”
“Are you happy that you got Dad’s attention, Marie?” Thomas asked, Richard wondering what exactly was his son feeling. Anger? Annoyance? Jealousy?
“What are you-”
“Aren’t you happy Mar? Happy that Dad loves you sooo much, simply because you’re the better one out of the two of us? The one that never gets in trouble? The goody-two-shoes, just like him? Like her? Like them?”
“What? No!” Marie squeaked, her eyes darting from their father and Thomas. “No, I-”
“Oh stop lying to yourself, Mar.” Thomas walked back down the stairs, his bag abandoned at the top. “You just love the fact that Dad always prefers you over me. After all,” he looked past his father, watching as Marie cowered behind him, “-you look just like her.”
“Thomas.” Richard said sternly, standing in front of Marie, tears falling silently down her face. “That’s enough.”
“What’s enough?” Thomas asked with a dry laugh. “The fact that Marie looks just like Mom? The fact that Marie looks identical to Mom? The fact that you have an identical replica of Mom living with us despite me also being a part of her?” Thomas let out a shuddering sigh. “I bet you’d choose Mom over me if you had the chance, wouldn’t you?”
“Thomas. Take. That. Back.” Richard gritted.
“Why should I when we both know it’s the truth?”
“You’re jumping to conclusions young man.”
“Oh? Am I?” Thomas walked up to his father, the height difference not scaring him one bit. “Then explain why I’m always the outcast.” At that, Richard took a step back, wondering how to answer at the accusation. “Why was I always the one you avoided looking at? Why was I always the one sent to Grandpa Bruce’s manor while Marie got to stay with Grandpere Tom and Grandmere Sabine? Why was I the one who had to suffer through all the gossip behind my back? Why was I-”
“Because you resemble her the most.” Richard softly said, Thomas looking up to his father, wondering when he had curled into himself, why his vision was so blurry. When did he start crying? When did his father start crying? Why was he crying? “Because some days you sounded exactly like her.” Richard brought his son into an embrace, Thomas feeling his father tremble. “Even though you have my shade of blue eyes, you have her midnight hair.”
Thomas felt his chest both tighten up and feel lighter.
“You have her laugh and her voice, her button nose and scrunched up face whenever she ate something sour.” Thomas’ vision blurred again, a lump forming in his throat.
“Your freckles look identical to her’s, you have her smile when you eat your favorite ice cream combo: vanilla and chocolate mint.” Richard let out a wobbly laugh. “Did you know that was her favorite combination to eat?”
Richard separated himself from Thomas, watching Thomas hang his head in shame while also wiping his tears away.
“And despite never meeting her, you have the same habits she had.” Marie walked up to her father and silently cried into his side. He patted her head, pulling Thomas into a hug again, hearing muffled cries. “It’s not that I was avoiding you Thomas, I was just not prepared to face you… to face the reality that your mother will never be able to see how much her children have grown up without her seeing a single bit of it with her own eyes.”
Thomas’ wails broke the silence, Marie shortly joining in, her own sobs syncing with her brother’s, something Richard had yet to completely understand.
Even when they were infants -in the rare times they would cry- whenever one of them would cry, the other would join, their screams syncing into a single wail, sometimes scaring Richard.
It would still be something to get used to.
Richard let his kids cry, knowing it was heavily needed. Talking to Thomas about the fight can wait for another time, his current emotions were more important than some fight from earlier that day.
He knew about Thomas’ constant fights, the academy always calling Richard to try to meet in person to speak about the situation, Richard always turning the appointments down. He already knew about them, he had for a while. He just knew it wasn’t the right time to approach Thomas about the issue.
He wanted to give Thomas the option to approach him, to confide in his father for advice.
Richard knew better than to pry information from people, if living with his adopted siblings taught him anything, it was to never pry. When he had applied pressure, or at least the majority of the time, it’d lead to an unwanted situation.
Their crying carried for minutes, almost an hour until they came to a soft hiccup, Thomas being the one to end the symphony of tears. Making sure that his kids calmed down completely and didn’t have anymore pent up emotions, Richard coaxed them to take a nap as Thomas and Marie ended up exhausting themselves, now drowsy from all the crying.
With great hesitance, the twins finally agreed to take a short nap, Thomas complaining how it would ruin his sleep schedule while Marie was starting to crave cake. Richard told Marie he would make sure a cake was made and finished before dinner while laughing at Thomas’ complaints.
It reminded him of a certain someone.
Tucking Marie into bed and giving her a kiss on her forehead, Richard slipped out of Marie’s room and went to the kitchen to start working on the cake he had promised Mari.
Setting up his work space, he got to baking, placing his glass bowl over a pan of hot water, cracking the eggs over it and placing the sugar and vanilla extract in as well. He began to mix the ingredients, feeling something was off.
“Oh! Don’t forget the honey! You always forget the honey!”
“Right! The honey!”
“And don’t forget to remove it-”
“Remove it when it gets to 40 celcius. And we have to do the same for the butter and milk.”
“Yup! Honestly, why do you keep asking me about the step if you got the majority of it down?
“Just making sure.”
“Once you mix the first bowl you gotta add the cocoa powder.”
“Right, the butter and milk come after that.”
“Yup! So let’s get back to baking!”
“Hope I don’t forget a step along the way.” Richard said to himself, failing to notice the figure that peered from the kitchen doorway, watching Richard talk to himself as he made the batter, placed it in the oven and started to prep for the next step.
“Do you see that Mari? He’s doing just fine. He may still be healing, but he’s okay.”
——
“What’s the cake for? Is it the twin’s birthday already?” A voice asked, making Dick jump, almost misplacing the last strawberry on the cake.
“Kor’i!” He exclaimed with a smile, placing the strawberry down and going up to kiss his wife, having to tip-toe a bit to kiss her cheek. “When did you get back home?”
“When you started baking.” Kor’i giggled upon seeing the blush on Richard’s face. “I didn’t want to bother you so-”
“You could’ve still said hi.”
“You were talking with M.” Kor’i said softly, watching as it dawned on Richard as to what she had meant.
“Oh,” was all he could say, rubbing the back of his neck. “Was I?” Kor’i nodded, noticing the mess on the counter.
“Why don’t I help you clean up? That way you can take a short break before dinner.” Kor’i suggested, Dick nodding, the two cleaning up the mess in sweet silence.
------
The mess was cleaned, dinner ready to be heated and the cake to be eaten, but there was an hour to spare before Kor’i and Dick had to wake up the children, so they settled with sitting on the sectional sofa, Dick being Kori’s pillow as the two watched some drama Kor’i had been watching recently.
While Kor’i was highly immersed into the show, Dick was content in just being there, running his hand through her hair that seemed to flow for miles. Her sunset hair shimmered, before Dick realized it had turned midnight and short.
------
“-hope that- Dick?” Kor’i asked, quickly turning when he had stopped moving. One minute he was stroking her hair, the next he had stopped.
Quickly, Kor’i kneeled beside Dick. “Dick? Dick? Dick, are you alright?”
“Mari. Is Mari okay?” He asked, staring at his hands, Kor’i noticing that tears ran down his face, his eyes had turned glossy.
“Dick... Dick.” Kor’i repeated, placing her hands on his shoulders. “Dick, please, say something.”
“It was all my fault.” Dick whispered, still looking into the distance, watching as Mari’s casket was lowered into the ground. “It was all my fault.”
------
Dick stormed out of the manor, slamming the door behind him, ignoring Alfred’s calls.
This is exactly why he hated Bruce. Why he hated Batman. Why he hated being Robin.
This is why this was going to be his last mission. His last mission... As a vigilante…
He had enough of all of this...he just wanted to have a life next to her.
As he made his way to his girlfriend’s home, ambulances rushed past him, firefighters and police cars following suit… all of them heading for-
“Mari.” With the worst case scenario in his head, Dick broke into a sprint, praying that it was all wrong. That what his gut was telling him was wrong. That Mari was fine. That she is alright.
Please, let her be okay.
------
He couldn’t bear to see her nor to touch her.
“I’m fine Dick.” Marinette softly said, placing her hand over his, drawing circles. “I’m going to be fine.”
“Why?”
“Hmm?”
“Why are you so calm?” Dick grasped the mint green blanket into his hand. “Why aren’t you-”
“Because I was also at fault.”
“He was drunk.”
“But I also was crossing the street when the light was still green.”
“He was going over the speed limit, Marinette.” Dick gritted, getting up quickly, the hair falling down. “Don’t you understand how serious this is?”
“I made it out with a simple scratch.”
“Mari, that’s not a scratch. You could’ve ended up blind and possibly dead if it weren’t for your quick thinking and your phone.”
Marinette pursed her lips at that, balling the blanket under her grip.
She knew Dick was right, but she was grateful for her luck, only having the side of her face swollen and having a cut near her eye.
True, she could’ve died if her phone didn’t take the hit for her leg… but Marinette was just happy to be alive…
Dick watched her avoid him as he took a breath, turning away from her as he collected himself.
Do it for her.
Bruce’s words rang in his head as he prepared himself for the biggest mistake of his life. Hell, the biggest regret of his life.
“I’ve had enough of this.” He said out of nowhere, Marinette wondering where this was coming from.
“Enough of what?”
“Of this!” Dick yelled, motioning at the hospital. “Every single time I come to visit you, I always end up here. Here!”
“Richard, I-”
“The first time I met you, it was my fault you were here. I wasn’t watching where I was driving, but since then?” Dick let out a dry laugh. “You manage to make it about yourself.”
“Richard, I had to-”
“You should’ve let the ball roll off the first time, should’ve let the phone fall into the river the second, should’ve let the letter fly off into the air, let the dog runaway, let that girl-”
“How can you say that I was doing it for attention?” Marinette scowled. “I was helping someone, saving them on that last one.”
“Help to the extent of getting injured? Of dying?” Dick laughed before it came to a halt. “I can’t keep going like this. I rather not be involved with this.”
Marinette’s eyes shrunk, feeling her view become smaller. She could feel her chest tighten, a lump forming in her throat.
Please don’t… don’t say-
“I think it’s better if we go our own ways.”
He did...
Marinette didn’t know when he left, nor did she know when the other doctors came into her room. She only acknowledged them when one of them sat on her bed and held her hand, giving it a squeeze.
It was only then that she noticed that the other two doctors that were in the room avoided looking at her, their mouths in thin lines.
“I’m...I’m pretty sure you didn’t hear us when we came in...we noticed you were dazed off, recovering from today’s accident.” The doctor at her side said, letting out a huff. “We’re here to tell you about your friend, Alya.” Marinette perked at that. “We came to the decision to tell you about your friend now rather than later or through someone else.”
No.
Please… don’t…
She can’t right now… She can’t lose another person… She won’t be able to handle that...
“Wh-What, where is Alya?”
She needed Alya right now...
“I’m sorry, but Mme.Ceshaire… she didn’t make it through the surgery.”
One minute Marinette saw the three doctors in her room… the next, her world had become dark.
------
“She’s awake! Someone! Get the doctor!”
Marinette’s eyes flickered, flinching when her eyes adjusted to the lights.
“I see that you’re doing better, Mme.Dupain-Cheng. And we need you to be doing better, to get better. After all, you have to live on for two now.”
“I, um, I beg your pardon?” Marinette asked, adjusting herself to sit up a bit, watching as the doctor looked at her in astonishment and then gracefully gave her a smile.
“I’m guessing you didn’t know, but that’s quite understandable, seeing as you are only two weeks in.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m still not-”
“You are pregnant Mme.Dupain-Cheng.” Marinette’s heart fell. “Congratulations.”
———
It was finally done.
Fuck Bruce.
He was never going back.
Dick felt like a weight in his shoulders were slightly lifted.
There was no turning back.
As Dick headed for the bakery where he knew Marinette still resided in, his heart came to a halt as his eyes laid on the girl he had left behind.
She had changed. She was a bit more plump, glowing as she sat on the chair outside the bakery. Next to her, a man who he’d only see a few times. Luka, if he remembered correctly.
But that wasn’t what had caused his heart to stop beating. It was her figure that had him to stop breathing. She was pregnant. But now the question that rose: whose was it? Who was the father of the child she was to bare?
It didn’t take long to figure it out because as soon as Dick locked eyes with Luka, he saw red in the other man’s eyes. One minute Dick was looking at an enraged Luka and the next he saw a fist, toppling backwards where his head met the floor.
“How dare you show your face around here after what you’ve done to Marinette!”
“What-” a grunt. “Are you-” a gag as he tasted blood. “Talking about?” But Dick got no response. Luka just keeps punching him, Dick letting him despite his brain telling him to defend himself. But his heart said otherwise. Something told him he deserved it.
“Luka! Stop it! Please!” Marinette’s voice cracked as she pleaded, Luka almost stopping instantly when he heard it.
Dick swore that his heart stopped at how broken it sounded, how tired it had become.
Was it all because of him?
“Mari, I-“
“Come inside.” Marinette said with a weak voice. “I don’t want anyone eavesdropping on our conversation.
-
After getting fixed up, Marinette treating his last bruise, Dick finished what he came to tell her.
The reason he broke up with her and didn’t contact her for months? One word: Kitten.
She had decided to waltz back into his life, but this time being the new Killer Moth, something Bruce and Dick did not expect to hear after hearing of Drury’s death.
While Bruce quickly adjusted to the new villain, Dick couldn’t. Because he knew what this meant.
She wanted him -hence her return- and this time, she came prepared.
She had more things to hold hostage against Dick - Gotham, Batman, Robin...and Marinette.
He needed to act quick, hasty decisions that led to successfully taking Kitten down.
However, they also led to regrets.
He watched as Marinette dropped the bag of frozen peas, her eyes filling up with tears.
“All of that, for a mission?”
“I know. It was stupid-“
“Stupid barely just scratches the surface.” She started, letting out a dry laugh. “It was downright idiotic!” Holding her hand to her head, she walked in a complete circle before facing him again.  “Why didn’t you just tell me? Why? Didn’t you trust me?”
“I do! I still do.”
“Sure didn’t seem like it.” Marinette scoffed. “Because if you did, you would’ve told me.”
“I could’ve never returned to you had the mission gone wrong.” Dick defended, attempting to reach out to her, only for Mari to catch his hand and shake her head.
“I would’ve understood. I know the sacrifices a person must make to keep their loved ones protected.” She reminded him, Dick fully knowing she was referring to her days of being Ladybug.
“Kitten-” Dick started, only to get cut off.
“Kitten would’ve faced my wrath if you didn’t come back to me.” Marinette said, then remembering about that clingy girl he once spoke of. “I would’ve done something to bring you back home.”
“I know. And that’s what I also feared.”
“Hmm?”
“I feared that if it did go wrong and you had to do something to get me back, and something happened to you as well...what does that say about me? Am I too weak to protect you? That I’m still not ready to have my own life and protect it?”
“What’s wrong in relying on others?”
“It often means bringing in more people for others to hold hostage.”
“Is that what your father taught you?” Marinette asked coldly, glaring at the bruise on Dick’s face. “Is that what you learned from fighting alongside Batman? Red Robin? Robin? Because if anything, they prove otherwise.”
“I just don’t-”
“Sometimes, you have to rely on others, lean on their shoulders.” Marinette reminded, cupping Richard’s face, gently pressing her forehead against his. “Just hide away your fears and ask for help. Talk to someone, just like you are with me.”
Dick didn’t know when he had placed his hands over hers nor when he got up to embrace her. He just knew that whatever stood between them no longer stood there.
That she somehow washed away his fears.
“Thank you, Mari.”
“That doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you for doing that stunt on me.” Marinette said against his ear, a chill running down his spine.
“R-right.”
------
The next months were spent with Dick picking up the responsibility he had never picked up.
He helped Marinette with her modeling, helped her deal with her clients, always at her beck and call each day.
He did the cleaning, the laundry and the cooking, not once letting Marinette lift a finger.
Despite each day spent like an errand boy, Dick cherished each moment.
Their morning greetings (which was a boop on the nose), their lunch dates, Dick watching Marinette hum and caress her stomach whenever she took a break, being by Mari’s side whenever she felt irritated, and the list went on.
Those days became weeks, which in turn, became months.
He didn’t remember when he had the guts to ask her to marry him, crying when she said yes.
The two moved into their own apartment - big enough for them and their bundle of joy.
———
With each passing day, he longed for the moment he’d be able to meet their child, Dick often being the one to bring out lists of names to choose from.
They’d talk about the nursery as they watched the city lights beam across their ceiling at night.
They’d talk about the cribs and the onesies they have to buy. Which brand to choose and the stuffed animals to buy.
As he’d run his hand through her midnight locks, they would speak of what family activities to do.
Introduce them to Disney, take them to the beach, the amusement park. To Paris!
They’d let their fantasies run wild, fully knowing that money was the least of their problem.
They just wanted the best for their child.
Their future.
———
And in the blink of an eye, they were there.
———
“He’s so tiny.” Richard cooed, cradling his son in his arms, watching the tiny infant squirm in his blanket. He had a tuft of navy hair, a few strands seeping from his tiny hat.
It was still pretty early in the morning, the delivery being five in the morning and yet Richard still had energy to spare. Or maybe he knew it wasn’t fair to his wife who worked so hard to bring their bundle of joy to their lives.
“He is, meaning that there’s still space to carry another one.” Marinette hummed, Richard tilting his head.
“Another...one?” Marinette giggled as she watched the nurse roll in another makeshift crib into the room, watching as tears rolled down Richard’s face. “Mari… why didn’t you-”
“I made sure to keep it a secret.” Marinette watched as the nurse helped Richard balance the two children into his arms, ingraining the memory. “Only my parents knew about them. Oh! And Alfred too!”
“She’s adorable,” was all Richard could whisper out as he looked at their children in his arms.
“Thomas. Marie.” Marinette said, reaching out for her children, the nurse quickly going to Richard to get Thomas and then Marie. Richard wanted to pout upon having his children taken from him but he didn’t care.
His heart melted as he watched the two infants snuggle closer to their mother, tiny smiles on their wrinkly faces.
“I’ll always be watching over you. Always.” Marinette softly spoke, her smile getting bigger before it quivered. “I’m sorry.”
What was she talking about? Sorry? About what?
“Richard.” Marinette spoke, even quieter this time, Dick noticing that her hold on the children was loosening, probably because she was tired. Without another word, he scooped the children into his arm, watching Marinette look at him with soft eyes. “Come closer.”
He did.
He watched as Marinette slowly lifted her hand to his cheek, caressing it as she smiled, unshed tears pooling in her eyes.
“You know I’ve always loved you and I always will.”
“You tell me everyday my love.” Dick assured, leaning into her cold touch. “I love you too.”
“Please.” Marinette pleaded, a tear sliding down her pale face, her lips giving him a frail smile. “Promise me that you’ll take care of them.”
“Of course I will.” RIchard smiled, wanting to caress her cheek as well, instead, he settled for a forehead press. She was kinda cold. “I’ll take care of them alongside you.” Marinette shook her head.
“Only you will be able to take care of... them.” Marinette said, her voice cracking towards the end. “I’m sorry.” She whispered out, Richard finally piecing together her words.
“Mari. Mari, no. You...you can’t.” Richard set the children down into their respective cribs, hearing her monitor start to beep in alarm. “Mari, Mari! Mari please! Someone!”
He started to shout outside the door, shouting for someone to come and help him.
He shouted desperately, watching as no one came, the crying of his two children being his only solace.
She died with a smile on her face.
———
“It was all my fault! I should’ve never left her alone! I should've told her about the mission instead of leaving her out of the loop! If I had simply-“
“Dick, you didn’t know.” Kor’i softly said, never noticing when the twins had gotten to the living room, watching as their father broke down. “None of us knew, but her.”
“Mari, is Mari okay? Tell me Kor’i! Is Marinette going to be alright?” Dick asked, clinging onto Kor’i.
This...this was the first time the twins had ever heard their mother’s name out of their father’s mouth. It was always ‘Mom,’ ‘Mother,’ Nettie’. It was never Marinette.
“Richard. She’s alright.” Kor’i hushed, watching as Dick let out shuddering breaths. “The children are okay as well.”
Thomas and Marie watched as their father visibly calmed down, watching Kor’i give him a soft smile.
“So she’s okay? She’s not…” he trailed off, looking at Kor’i with glossy eyes. When he saw Kor’i nod, let out a sigh before he collapsed to his side, the cushions allowing him to drift off to sleep.
Thomas and Marie attempted to go over to their father, but didn’t when Kor’i prevented them from getting any closer.
“Does...does- is this new?” Marie asked, watching her father in deep sleep, tears staining the pillow underneath him. “Was this-“
“He doesn’t have them that often anymore, they used to be much worse. And as much as I want to say no, I can’t do that. So yes, perhaps the sudden situation that caused him to confess his feelings may have triggered this one.” Kor’i responded despite not wanting to confirm Marie’s suspicions.
“Will he be alright?” Thomas then asked, holding onto Marie’s hand that trembled in guilt.
“He’s going to be alright. I assure you that much.” Thomas and Marie watched as Kor’i draped a blanket over him, wondering what awaited them.
The two walked out the living room, walking into the kitchen, a sob escaping Marie.
“Come on Marie. You can’t just-“
“What if it’s our fault Mom isn’t here?” Marie cut her brother off. “What if we’re the reason-“ She flinched when Thomas slammed his hands on the kitchen counter.
“Don’t you dare say that!” Thomas grabs her by the shoulders, shaking her a bit. “Don’t you dare mock Mom’s feelings like that! If we’re here while she isn’t, then she wanted us to live! And because we’re living, we can’t just just take her decision for granted!”
“I know, but-“ Marie bit her lip. “How did we just believe Dad wasn’t still suffering from her death? Why didn’t we notice it? Why didn’t he say anything? We’re his children. He should’ve said something. We could’ve helped.”
Thomas frowned, watching as his sister silently cried.
He hated to say this, but she was right.
He could’ve told them what he was going through. He could’ve leaned on them… then again, who was he to judge him for that?
He never spoke of his fights with his father, so what right did he have for demanding him to tell them about his problems?
Now that he thought about, why did he never speak of the fights?
Was it his shame? His guilt?
No.
Thomas knew why he never spoke of the fights.
It was his pride.
They called him motherless, a bastard when they saw him argue with his father once and when they learned that Kor’i was his father’s ‘current’ wife was someone from Tamaran, they called him a Torq.
Torq.
Insignificant. A nobody. That nothing good would ever come from a motherless rebel like him.
Thomas hit the side of his fist against the wall, a book hitting his head and falling to the floor.
Why did he choose the side of the kitchen where all the cookbooks were at?
Rubbing his aching bruise, Thomas went to pick it up, eyes widening when he saw the name on the opened front page.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
Marie rushes over the moment she hears the name, slightly pushing her brother to get a better view of the book.
They flipped the page, confused to see writing on it.
“They’re recipes.” Marie pointed out, looking at the fruit tart recipe on the page they were currently looking at.
“Mom wrote all of these.” Thomas stated the obvious, running his hand across the neatly written instructions. The regular instructions were in black, side notes and suggestions in red and pink respectively.
He also couldn’t help but notice a ladybug theme on the book.
Did she like ladybugs?
“In case Dick has another nightmare or breakdown.” Marie read out loud, Thomas looking to where he was reading.
“An herbal tea?”
“Do you think...it will work?”
“We can give it a try.”
“Let’s do it then!” Marie said with a smile. “Let’s make Dad feel better!”
I know you two can do it! Good luck!
———
“It happened again, didn’t it?” Dick asked, looking down at his trembling hands.
It wasn’t even a complete ten minutes before he woke up. His body was sore and his throat parched. Another one, huh? “And I’m front of-“
“They were going to find out eventually.” Kor’i said softly, amazed that it took 16 whole years for them to find out. While babies didn’t fully understand breakdowns, they can absolutely feel them. “And what better time than now.”
“But they shouldn’t have to deal with-“
“They are not dealing with anything. Instead, they are learning more about you. Getting to finally know about their father.”
“Their pathetic poor-excuse-of-a-father.” Dick huffed, placing his head into his hands. “Can’t even get over-“
“Don’t. Don’t you dare finish that sentence.” Kor’i gritted, cupping Dick’s face to make him look at her. “Don’t you dare say that death should be easy to get over. Because it’s not. And never will. Only time can heal it. And we both know that.”
“All too well.” Dick added, placing his head on her shoulder. “Sorry for saying that.”
“It’s alright.”
“Dad.” “Dad.” They heard their kids say simultaneously, noticing that Thomas had a tray in his hand.
“What’s that you got there?” Dick attempted to say with a chirp, causing everyone to resist showing a frown.
“It’s a tea recipe we found.” Thomas started.
“We decided to make it after finding it in Mom’s recipe book.”
They watched as their father’s eyes grew large.
“Mari’s...cookbook. It thought it was lost in the move from long ago.” Dick whispered as he took the cup of tea, the aroma of ginger and cinnamon bringing back old memories. “It smells just like the tea she used to make.”
Marie and Thomas watched as their father took a sip from it, wondering if it tastes the same as Mom’s.
“Does...does it taste...good?” Marie asked after a long moment of awkward silence.
“It almost tastes exactly like hers. Of course, there’s still something missing-“ Marie’s hiccups, Dick quickly getting up to console her, setting down his cup. “Mari, the tea-“
“I’m glad you liked it. I thought you wouldn’t.” Marie sobbed, wiping away her tears. “We tried to figure out what the last ingredient was but after testing out different things, nothing seemed to be it.”
“Whatever Mom meant by ‘tears of true love,’ we weren’t able to crack it.” Thomas clarifies, placing the empty tray onto the coffee table. “But I guess it was still a success if you said it tastes similar to Mom’s.”
Dick smiled, pulling Thomas close to him.
“Seems like the two of you have your mother’s gift of creation.” Dick felt Kor’i join in on the hug. “She’d be really proud of the two of you. Without a doubt.”
He wiped away a tear that dared to slip, flicking it away.
He never realized the soft pink glow that emitted from the tea when the tear flew into it.
The tear of true love...in the shape of a healing family.

(adj.) homey; cozy and unpretentious
At seven and four, Kazuki and Isao were at the age where they couldn’t keep their messy doodles confined into the sketchbooks you’d bought for them.
The first victim to their mischief was the wall in the kitchen beside the door leading to your backyard. It was a small parade of animals, with streamers and party hats. Tiger-san with his jagged crown, the dainty family of rabbits, and the hefty Bear-san (“No, Mommy! That’s Cat-san!” your second oldest had huffed indignantly at the clutter of crayon circles) who was at the very front of the entire crew. Your boys were lucky enough that it had been you who’d walked into their little streak of artistry. An understanding glance had been enough, seeing that you probably weren’t so different back then. You’d clean it up with a secret trick your mother had taught you and everything in the Iwaizumi household was back in business. Easy-peasy.
But had it been Hajime who’d encountered their mess... let’s just say you wouldn’t hear the end of the boys’ shrill wails until the next week.
Unfortunately for you and your trusty washcloth, Kazuki and Isao’s artistic escapades didn’t stop at the kitchen wall. Next, it was the floors, the windows of the entrance and even on the door to your bedroom (with a side of elephant stickers that you’d admit were pretty cute). Thus, it didn’t take very long for your husband to finally be faced by their “little” temperament. And not very long for the boys to be faced by their father’s wrath.
But there was simply a stubborn rock settled somewhere in your sons’ heads—they get it from Hajime, you’d kept telling yourself—and for simply the reason of being boys in their early youths, they kept on drawing. Everywhere. Anywhere.
At least the both of you were thankful enough for Hina-chan. Still a tiny ball of warmth curled up cozily against in your arms, Hina was the youngest and the only daughter in your modest family of five. And the least likely source of your daily hurdles.
“By the time Hina learns to hold a pencil, should we just introduce our home as an art gallery or something?” Hajime had asked you rather comically after seeing the colorful family portrait Isao had drawn in one of his reference books.
Though Kazuki, your first child, was completely aware of his responsibilities as an older brother, it was concerning enough that he still hadn’t let go of his childishness. He was seven now, and in a few months, delving into April, he’d be in first grade. Maybe he was simply rowdy in nature... who knows? With a gruff husband like Iwaizumi Hajime, anything was possible.
Elementary school... you pondered, gazing softly at your family in the living room. Hajime cradling Hina in one arm while he and the boys cheered wildly at the service ace that was displayed on TV. How exciting.
══════ ⋆★⋆ ══════
“Remember to ask for ‘Ichimura-sensei’, alright? She was the teacher I talked to when Kazuki and I checked the school. She’ll know the details I asked her about in the last meeting so you just have to give her the application form.”
Hajime suppressed a chuckle at your adamant ramble. “You’ve only been telling me this all week. I won’t forget, you know.”
“Sorry,” you sighed, bouncing your sleeping daughter in your arms. “I just want to make sure nothing goes wrong. This is our firstborn we’re talking about.”
“Trust me, Y/N,” he smiled. “It’ll be fine.”
You could only nod quietly. Was it the maternal instinct within you that was acting up? It all felt too soon, too quick. If you blinked, Kazuki would’ve already gotten married already... You weren’t ready for that.
But the least you could do was get used to the changes that were going to happen around the house. Starting with this.
“You’ve brought the form with you, right? You didn’t forget it?”
You felt bad that your husband was being held up at the entrance to your little home, but it couldn’t hurt to be just slightly careful. Unclasping his bag, he scrabbled through it, shaking his head.
“Don’t worry, I’ve put it in a folder here last night, so there’s no way it would—Eh?”
More rummaging.
“Hajime, is everything alright?”
He was pulling things out of his bags now. 2000-yen bills, crumpled receipts, his packets of protein shakes, Hina’s diapers. But no application form. Nothing.
“I-It’s not there.”
“Huh?!”
“H-Hold on, I’ll check our bedroom,” his voice was in the least reassuring tone he could muster and you felt your heart drop a million feet into the ground.
Why would this happen now of all times? The document was already filled and sealed with your inkan*, payments documented, crucial information written on that single sheet of paper. Crucial information you couldn’t afford to fill in twice... and it was missing?
You really didn’t want to think about how today was the last day to submit applications—
“Kazuki!!” Hajime’s thunderous voice cut through the silence.
A tiny echo of pattering footsteps and Hina shifted against your chest but did not wake. You were thankful enough; anymore ruckus and your sanity would snap.
Yawning, your eldest scratched his dark bedhead and sauntered over to his father who fisted a sheet of paper in his hand. “Daddy, you’re too loud...”
Putting the paper onto full display, your eyes nearly bulged out of your head at what was on it.
Had the form always been so... colorful? You could barely see any writing on it, covered by the persistent doodles your son had scrawled over. Mixes of hiragana he’d been practicing, completed with small side drawings—Anpanman*, some horses and a purple paddy field. All in all: it was a mess. But it was clearly the form you’d filled in. And it was clearly Kazuki’s mess.
Hajime scowled, the space between his eyebrows wrinkling. “Did you do this?”
“...No.”
“Well it couldn’t be Isao or Hina, couldn’t it?” he seethed. “Don’t take me for an idiot. Isao’s been having playdates all week and Hina can’t draw yet. What did I tell you about drawing outside of the papers and books we gave you, huh?!”
“B-But I was just trying to help!” Kazuki exclaimed. “You and Mommy are always so busy taking care of papers. So I thought if I helped you write in it... you’d come and play with me again.”
Suddenly, a lump rose in your throat. You were always so busy taking care of Hina and Isao and their immeasurable demands, and your husband was either at work or out playing volleyball with the neighborhood team. You wondered how lonely it was for him the entire week you were taking care of the registrations.
How lonely it was, despite being surrounded by so much people.
Your husband, however, was completely unfazed. “Go to your room.”
“But Daddy, it’s not—!”
“Kazuki.” Each syllable he drew out sent a shiver down your spine. In a split second, the Iwaizumi household’s living room grew cold. “Go. To. Your. Room! Put your arms above your head and keep it that way until I come back!”
As if on cue, the waterworks emerged.
“I hate you, Daddy! I hate you! You never listen to me!” and that was the last thing you heard from the tear-streaked boy before he stumbled through the hallway, slamming his bedroom door behind him.
“...Mmn,” Hina roused, her tiny button nose flaring, and you instantly knew what was to come. Oh no...
Sighing in defeat, your husband crossed his arms and ambled back towards you and the bawling baby in your embrace. Pressing your lips together, you mumbled to him. “You could’ve been a bit nicer to Kazuki. Now look what happened.”
“He’ll never learn his lesson if I don’t get strict,” he said, the guilt crossing his eyes. Swimming. Settling. “I’m going to go ahead to the school before they close for the day. Ask if they’ve got anymore forms I can fill in there.”
You nodded, hands coming to rub gently against your daughter’s back as your husband kissed your forehead—a daunting ritual you did before whenever he left the house.
Then, he bent down to softly coo at the red-faced infant. “Hina-chan, how about a kiss for Daddy before I go?”
The result: Hina only cried louder. Repelled by the sudden change in volume, Hajime scratched the back of his neck remorsefully.
“I get it, I get it... I’m the bad guy today,” he rustled. “I guess I’ll be off now. I’ll leave the house in your care, Y/N.”
You smiled at him, your hard-working husband with a weak spot for your little family. “Be careful, Hajime-kun.”
As soon as the door clicked shut, you were left to your terror again. A crying seven-year old, a crying baby, and if all the noise were to wake up Isao from his afternoon nap... Geez, what a mess...
══════ ⋆★⋆ ══════
Hajime really felt like he knew this guy somewhere... High school? A volleyball match? That refreshing aura wasn’t really difficult to tell apart, either...
“You’re number 2 from Karasuno High, ain’tcha?”
“Uwaah... Seijoh’s Iwaizumi Hajime...” Sugawara twinkled, the grey cowlick on his head standing up straight. “The atmosphere of an powerful ace really is hard to miss.”
Hajime blushed. When was the last time someone called him a ‘powerful ace’? He had you to call him that whenever you were feeling nostalgic, but otherwise, that label was a shard of the past.
“Sugawara-san, right?” he recalled. “You work here at this school?”
The man chuckled. “Yep! I’m a teacher now. How about you, Iwaizumi-san? What are you up to here?”
“Oh, I’m looking for Ichimura-sensei. I want to talk to her about the registration for my son.”
Sugawara shook his head for a moment before replying.
“Unfortunately, Ichimura-sensei is out with the flu. That’s why I’m covering the weekend shift for her. You can just give the forms to me, and we can look over the terms and conditions.”
What luck, Hajime thought. But at least having this guy around wasn’t going to be as bad of an experience.
“Ah... about that...” he started. “My kid drew all over the application form and I don’t remember making any copies. So, would it be a problem if I did it again right now? Me and my wife are in a bit of a tough spot at the moment.”
By the grace of God, Sugawara said, “I don’t think it’d be a issue. Let’s go to the office and discuss it together. Before that, can I ask for your ID, Iwaizumi-san?”
“Ah, yeah, sure, let me just get my wallet...” filing through his bag, Hajime rifled through the stacks of paper, looking... searching... And when he got to his wallet: “Huh?”
There it was. The application-payment form he’d filled in last week, in its pristine glory. And with absolutely zero drawings on it. There was his family seal and everything. Down to both of your signatures, in the blue ink you’d insisted on using (Hajime never really bothered to make out the different uses of different inks).
“The form...” he muttered. “It must’ve slipped from the folder or something. Then that means the one at home was probably a copy...”
Freezing, Hajime realized. Crap. What have I done?
══════ ⋆★⋆ ══════
By the time Hajime got home, the house was already quiet again. Isao and Hina were asleep in your bedroom—Hina in her crib and Isao laid spread-eagle on the limited expanse of your queen-size bed. Taking the opportunity of a silent home, you decided to use the time you had to eat some sweets you’d secretly stashed in the fridge away from your children’s eyes.
“What a ravenous wife,” he’d teased, only for you to smear a dollop of whipped cream across his face in retaliation.
It didn’t take him long to realize the muffled sobbing from Kazuki’s room had subsided too. Curiosity getting the best of him, your husband stepped inside the danger zone.
Hajime always thought that Kazuki was a peaceful sleeper. He could sleep anywhere and still look like he was having the time of his life. During times like this, where Hajime was drained empty at the end of the day, he couldn’t help but feel jealous of his son.
Gingerly picking him up from the carpeted floors, Hajime rested Kazuki’s head on the crook of his broad shoulder, his gentle breathing blowing faint breezes next to his nape. Looking down at the smattering of papers on the ground, he reached down to read one that Kazuki had presumably written right before he was knocked out cold.
I’m really sorree Sorry Daddy :( I promise to never draw on your things ever again. Kazuuki
Below the large lopsided text he’d written in crayon was a smudged drawing of (what seemed) to be him. Well, if Hajime was a stickman with prominent eyebrows that stuck out of his face.
“I’m sorry too, kid. Guess I was being unfair, huh?” he murmured. “I’ll make it up to you once you wake up. We’ll all play together. Me, you, Isao, Hina and your mom. We’ll use as much time as we have left.”
And Hajime never backed down on a promise.
