Tumblr media
not caring what response the random guy had to say, matt kept walking. while leaving completely wasn't an option, who's to say he couldn't wait in the car? enticed by the idea of complete silence and peace, matt strolled to the front door of the house and made his way up the street to the car. with a short beep of the car unlocking, he hopped in and shut the door, sighing in relief. after sitting idle for a moment, he was unsure what to do. was this a new low? hiding in the car from my brother and his girlfriend....jesus. defeat struck again, making him rest his arms and forehead against the steering wheel. what the fuck is wrong with me? amid his wallowing, a low buzz vibrates repeatedly from his back pocket. matt grabs his phone, the bright screen illuminating the dark interior of the car. not one, but five texts from nick:
Tumblr media
matt rolled his eyes at his brother's hollow threat.
Tumblr media
a tinge of anger made its way through matt's veins. of course chris did something. it wouldn't be fair to cuss out chris until he knew the whole context, but, fuck, was he close to. he squinted, seeing nick and y/n walking side by side towards the car, chris behind them on his phone. he couldn't read y/n's expression or chris'. they all got in the car awkwardly in silence. matt looked at nick for a quick nonverbal explanation, but nick shook his head like he wasn't allowed to say a word. with that, matt takes the cue to start the car and head home. in the rearview mirror, he sees ample distance between chris and y/n. chris' hand creeps onto her thigh, but she moves it off.
"you're seriously still mad?" chris mumbles, trying not to draw attention
y/n ignores him, staring out the window for any kind of distraction.
"this is ridiculous." he scoffs under his breath
nick scrambles for the aux cord and puts on some soft music to alleviate the growing tension. matt discreetly nods at nick for his idea.
other than the music playing, it's silent for almost ten minutes until chris starts instigating again.
"can we talk about it at least? y/n?" he pokes her thigh, but her gaze remains on the buildings that pass by
y/n's voice shakes, "no, not right now."
"so you're gonna be mad at me and not tell me why?" he rhetorically asks, raising his voice so that it overpowers the volume of the music
nick's eyes flick to matt's nervously.
"chris, let's not do this in front of them, please. just wait." y/n requests, fighting the urge to match his vexed tone, but it comes out even
matt lets it be quiet for a minute, then clears his throat, "so-uh, y/n, should i just bring you back to our place?"
her eyes meet his in the mirror and he gives her a comforting smile, mutely letting her know that the invitation is open but that she doesn't have to.
"um, yeah, if you don't mind." her eyes hold onto matt's stare longer than he expected, finally returning back to the window.
the rest of the ride is filled with an uncomfortable silence, everyone shifting awkwardly in their seats and checking their phones.
what felt like an eternity in the car was finally over as matt pulled into the garage. not even waiting for the car to be off, chris swings his seat belt off and gets out. y/n tries to keep up, quickly running behind him to where matt and nick assumed was chris' room.
after the garage door fully closed behind y/n, matt gestured for nick and him to get out.
"so you don't know what happened at all?" matt interrogates nick, locking the car
nick opens his mouth to start speaking, opening the door into the house, but puts a finger up to his mouth with wide eyes.
"what?" matt whispered entering the first level of the house
nick shushed him, steadily walking up the stairs to the second floor to reach the living room. curiously, matt did the same.
"i thought i heard y/n...it sounded like she was in pain or something...." nick spoke so quietly, matt had to step closer to hear him. the two brothers turned in the direction of chris' room, waiting for a sound, but there was nothing.
matt starts to walk away, "nick, c'mon-"
"mmh, chris, fuck..." y/n's muffled moan travels down the hall.
matt freezes, blood rushing to his cheeks and ears. holy fuck. the sounds coming from chris' room were borderline pornographic. y/n's sweet mewls mixed with chris' low groans could be heard over the sound of the skin slapping over and over again.
"wow, that was fast. usually, they fight a little more before this part." nick grabs his headphones routinely from the dinner table, "you know, i told chris not to do that shit when we're here anymore. it's fucking weird. but if he's not gonna listen to me, the least he can do is close his door all the way."
with no response from matt, nick looks to him. matt stands completely still, eyes glued to the hallway of chris' room, definitely not hearing a word nick just said.
"matt? what the fuck are you doing?" nick hits his arm, snapping matt out of the trance he'd been put in.
"what? sorry-i think i need to go to bed. i'm really tired." a lie so bad, he cringed the second it left his mouth. thankfully, nick had enough alcohol in him for it to go unnoticed for once.
"well, good luck with that." nick gave him a part on the back, slipping his headphones on and walking to his room.
once nick's door was shut, matt shuts his eyes tightly and took a deep breath. just go to your room, plain and simple. close the door and go to bed. matt opened his eyes, taking hesitant steps into the hallway. with each step, y/n's moans grew louder. it started feeling real, too real. he clenched his fist and held his breath, making it the space between chris' bedroom door and his; conveniently right across from one another. the sounds were no longer muffled and he could almost feel the heat radiating from the room. like he was being timed, matt slipped into his room, closing his door, but leaving it cracked the slightest bit open. peering with a fraction of his face, he could partially see past the crack of chris' door. the sliver he was permitted was of y/n. her eyebrows knitted together, both hands holding her up as she grips onto the sheets of the bed white-knuckled. her body rocks back and forth as she fucks into chris, who drills into her from behind relentlessly. she gasps every couple of thrusts when chris goes deeper. a string of their curses echoes throughout the whole upstairs. matt feels himself getting hard at the sight and sound her. it was so wrong, he knew that. a sudden wave of shame pours over him. if chris knew the things he thought about his girlfriend, matt was certain chris would shoot him dead between the eyes. so, making sure they don't hear, matt closes his door. he kicks off his shoes, peels his jeans and shirt off, and crawls into bed. it's pitch black in his room, leaving too much to the imagination. loud and clear, he can still hear y/n's erotic sounds. so pretty. even when she's getting her brains fucked out, she sounds so fucking pretty. matt had watched his fair share of porn in the past. he could never fully get off to how most of the girls sounded. sure, most of it is scripted after all, but none of it really got him going. there were always too screechy for him. but not y/n. she sounded like an angel.
he almost felt nauseous with guilt about these thoughts he was having. distraughtly, he turned over on his side, making eye contact with headphones that sat on his bedside table. maybe nick had the right idea. reaching for them lazily, he turned them on. a small circular red light blinked on the side indicating a dead battery. great. he rolled over onto his back, both hands pushing his hair out of his face. a loud slap sounded, earning a pleased whimper from y/n. matt's mouth formed an 'o' in shock. he didn't think she was into that...
he couldn't handle it any longer. the bulge in his boxes throbbing so bad it started to hurt.
just this once, matt...
lightly, his hand snuck under the covers, to his erection, palming it. he winced, the mere contact already giving him the relief he needed. another slap against y/n's ass echoed, working him up enough to touch himself underneath his boxers. grabbing the base of his shaft and stroking upwards, he shut his eyes, imagining he was the one making y/n sound like that. it was easy to tap into this fantasy for him, not being the first time, in truth. he could see it so clearly: him holding her hips, moving her body against his as he fucked into her. her soft skin sticky with sweat, little baby hairs clinging to her forehead as he kissed her lips and neck. he would take his time with her. not like chris. he would grab her neck if she'd let him, holding her securely. he'd leave little marks all along her tits. god, her tits. the thought of them alone was enough to make him cum right there. he'd fuck her as long as he physically could, as long as she wanted him to. and the face she'd make when she cums....the way she'd whine his name, holding onto him for dear life.
he was almost there, eyes screwing shut even tighter than before. his chest rose and fell at a brash pace, sucking in air, as he felt his release nearing. his free hand grabs onto his sheets, hips lifting up to fuck himself into his hand. so fucking close...
but then there's silence from the other room. mid-stroke, matt pauses, keeping his eyes closed. suddenly, chris' door slams. a meek knock on his own door causes matt's eyes to flash open in fear.
"matt...?" y/n knocks again, a little louder, "are you awake?"

There were hundreds of texts. Possibly thousands. You honestly had no idea he had been communicating with her this way so consistently. The first thing you did was check his deleted texts, but the folder was empty– though you doubted Bucky even knew how to delete texts, you couldn’t be positive he hadn’t picked it up somewhere. You made a mental note to yourself to hack into his phone’s data from your laptop later and check his phone records, and then hated yourself for having to resort to something so controlling. God, who was he turning you into?
The texts started innocently enough– questions about training schedules, protocols, general life in the Tower. All perfectly reasonable inquiries one would make to their new superior officer. But then came the requests– fixing her lights in her room, would he eat breakfast with her because she was so lonely? They began texting each other good morning and good night… every day.
She started calling him “sexy” and “handsome” as a way of greeting him. He never encouraged it, or reciprocated, but he never shut it down or told her it was inappropriate, either.
Then, there was the evening after the Central Park fiasco.
Vix: It was really mean of you to make me walk all the way back to the Tower by myself, you know.
>> I know. I’m sorry. I just needed to talk to Pocket alone.
Vix: I could have been assaulted or kidnapped!
>> lol You’re a super soldier. You could wipe the floor with anyone who tried.
Vix: Aww, thanks Jamie <3
Vix: Did your girlfriend get over her temper tantrum?
>> She had a right to be upset. It was shit of me to forget about her like that.
Vix: What is she? A golden retriever?
>> lol
Vix: She was alone for, like, five minutes. She’ll survive.
Vix: If you ask me, she was just looking for an excuse to be mad at you.
Vix: She obviously doesn’t trust you, which is so hypocritical.
>> What do you mean?
Vix: Come on, Jamie. You don’t really buy her whole bullshit story about her ‘friendship’ with Stark, do you?
Vix: I don’t care how rich he is. *No one* shells out that kind of money for someone’s education without expecting something in return. She obviously fucked him.
>> She told me it wasn’t like that.
Vix: Don’t tell me you believe her! I know you’re not stupid.
>> Yeah, well of course I wondered.
“What the fuck, Bucky?” you asked, your voice rising as you stood up to face him. “Uh, which part?” he asked sheepishly.
“There’s more than one part that would have me asking ‘what the fuck’?” you asked, disgusted. Bucky just kind of shrugged his shoulders. “You seriously think I slept with Tony?!” “Oh, that!” Bucky looked relieved, and that concerned you, because if he was relieved that that was what you were upset about, what the hell else was in those texts? “I wondered about it when you first told me he paid for your school,” he said. “Back before we were really friends. But you said that you didn’t, and I believe you. I’ve always believed you.”
“Well, your text to Carthage sure makes it sound like you don’t believe me,” you argued. “Like you’re still wondering.”
“That wasn’t my intention,” he said softly.
“Yeah, well, and I say this with all the lack of respect it deserves,” you snapped, “your intentions are shit.”
Bucky looked down at the floor, no longer meeting your gaze. “Fuck,” you said, “I don’t even know if I want to read the rest of these,” you told him. “If that was something ‘well intentioned’ but there’s still things you expect me to get upset about.”
“No,” said Bucky, looking back at you now, “please– I want you to read them. I don’t want to have any more secrets from you.”
You sighed and sat back down. “I’m not even going to touch on you laughing about her calling me a literal dog,” you said as you picked up the phone and started reading again.
There were several selfies from Jade to Bucky of her in various skimpy outfits, asking for his opinion. Completely inappropriate, in your opinion, but Bucky would just respond with the thumbs up emoji, or occasionally “nice,” or “pretty.”
What really got to you, though, were the late night texts. You noticed some of the timestamps on Bucky’s end were from hours after you would have fallen asleep. The idea of him texting her in the middle of the night, in the dark, while lying next to your sleeping body repulsed you, and you had to suppress a shudder.
What was worse was the context of them– it wasn’t anything salacious or sexual, no– it was his vulnerability. His personal thoughts and feelings, memories of his past and descriptions of his nightmares that he refused to share with you, telling you they were too dark, or that he couldn’t remember them. Even now, you skimmed over what he had written without really reading them, knowing that he hadn’t wanted you to be privy to those parts of him. It broke your heart to see him being so open with her, so lacking in defenses, when you had literally been right there, yet he’d kept you at arm’s length, all without you knowing it.
Vix: What did you tell her about the sparring match?
>> The truth. It was just an intense practice session.
Vix: So you didn’t mention your hard-on, then? >> That was just a physical reaction. The adrenaline from the fight. It had nothing to do with you.
Vix: lol Keep telling yourself that, Jamie.
>> Vix. Vix: Relax, I’m just teasing xoxo
>> Yeah, I know.
Your hands were shaking. “I fucking knew it,” you seethed.
“Knew what?” Bucky looked like a deer trapped in headlights.
“That fucking sparring match,” you said through clenched teeth, your eyes beginning to water. “I fucking knew there was something sexual going on between you two, and you lied to my god damned face! And then, what? You fucked me with the erection she gave you? God, I knew you looked guilty. I could see it in your fucking eyes!”
“Okay, yes, but no!” Bucky said. “Yeah, I felt guilty because I got hard during the fight, and I was worried you saw it, but it really didn’t have anything to do with her! It’s… it’s a thing that happens to me, sometimes. Doesn’t matter who I’m fighting with. It’s, uh, happened when I’ve sparred with Steve– ” You shot him a look, skeptical. “I swear; you can ask him!” he continued. “It… look, I’m pretty sure it’s a hold out from the… things… Hydra did to me. When they were turning me into the Winter Soldier. The details are hazy, the memories aren’t all there, but… I have… flashes… how they used to, uh, stimulate me, to get me to do what they wanted me to do.”
You looked at him, waiting for more details, but he didn’t offer them. He obviously still didn’t trust you with those parts of himself, even now. “But, I swear to you– as soon as I saw that look on your face, it was gone. I felt awful, knowing what you would think if you’d noticed. That killed it, instantly. When we were together, later, that was all because of you. It was all for you.” He took in your expression. “You don’t believe me.”
“Seems to be a pretty convenient excuse, don’t you think?” you asked. You felt like a bitch, on the off chance he was telling you the truth, if his erection had been based on the conditioning of decades of sexual abuse on top of the physical and psychological trauma he had endured, but he’d eroded your trust so thoroughly, you couldn’t help but doubt.
“You think I’d lie to you about something Hydra did to me?” he asked you, hurt. “Something like that?” You could hear the unanswered question in his voice: Something horrible we’ve both been through?
You shrugged, knowing you were being cruel. “How should I know? I’m not the one you’ve been sharing your secrets with, so I don’t know what’s the truth and what’s another lie.”
Bucky grimaced, and you couldn’t help but feel guilty. You, of all people, knew how shameful discussing sexual abuse could make one feel, but you’d always been honest and open with him about what had happened to you, because you had trusted him. It was hurtful to know he’d been through something similar and hadn’t afforded you the same trust in return, even though you knew you had no right to demand it of him. But he had given it so freely to her.
You went back to the texts, hoping you had read the worst, but dreading there was still more to come.
He told her about your fights. That was difficult to read, knowing that he had made her privy to the lowest points in your private relationship, and how she must have been eating it up. >> I just don’t know what more she wants from me.
>> What more she expects me to do.
>> One minute she’s furious with me, and the next minute, she’s saying she doesn’t care.
Vix: She’s messing with you. Fucking with your emotions to show she can control you.
Vix: Why do you keep putting up with this?
>> I don’t know. Sometimes I
Vix: ???
>> Nevermind.
Vix: What, Jamie? You can tell me anything. I’m here for you.
>> Sometimes I just wish she was maybe a little more like you. More understanding.
You stared down at the screen, unable to move.
“Pocket?” Bucky asked, noticing you hadn’t scrolled in a few minutes.
“You don’t know why you keep putting up with me?” you asked him, voice barely above a whisper. “You wish I was more like her?”
“I was upset,” he said, crouching down in front of you. “That was the night before she went to Malaysia, after I left our room, but before I got her to go to Gino’s. When I could tell you were pulling away, and I didn’t know why. I didn’t really mean it; it was just venting because you had me so confused.”
You stared off into the middle distance as Bucky tried to make eye contact with you, unable to look at him. “I feel like there’s this whole entire side of you you’ve been hiding from me,” you said, speaking to and through him simultaneously. “I don’t know this version of you, at all. And I don’t think I want to.”
“Doll,” Bucky grasped your hands, desperation entering his voice, but you didn’t have the energy to pull away. “Those texts aren’t me. You know me. You know my heart.”
You met his eyes then, the look you gave him full of loss, betrayal, and heartache. “I don’t think I do.”
Bucky’s face cracked; you’d never seen him look so defeated. He took the phone from you and scrolled to the very bottom of the text thread, to the most recent exchange the two had had, from the night of her ‘panic attack.’ Wordlessly, he handed the phone back to you.
Vix: Please, Jamie. I could treat you so much better than she can.
>> I told you, Vix. I’m not going to leave her. I love her.
Vix: But all you do is fight. I can hear you from my room, you know. I know you’re not happy.
>> We fight because of *you*. Please don’t make this difficult. I don’t want to ask Steve to reassign you for training.
Vix: Please don’t do that! I just want to be with you. I could make you so happy.
>> *She* makes me happy. She’s all I want. I’m sorry if that hurts your feelings, but it’s how I feel. I’m never gonna love anyone the way I love Pocket. That’s just the way it is.
Vix: You can’t deny there’s something between us!
Vix: I know you feel it!
Vix: We could keep it a secret. She doesn’t need to know.
Vix: You could have both of us.
>> Stop. I don’t want you. And to be honest, I’m disgusted you’d even suggest I cheat on the love of my life.
Vix: You don’t mean that!
>> I do. You need to accept it.
His last message was followed by a barrage of texts from Jade, begging him to respond to her, but he hadn’t. You supposed, in a way, that should make you feel better, but you were so emotionally exhausted, you couldn’t feel much of anything. All you knew was that you should have never read those messages.
“This… this is a lot to process,” you finally said, looking at Bucky. “I don’t really know what to do here.”
Bucky frantically tapped at his phone screen. “Block her number,” he said. “If cuttin’ her out’s what it’s going to take for me to start rebuilding your trust, then I’ll gladly do it. Pozhaluysta, Pocket.” Please, Pocket.
Mechanically, you went through the motions of blocking Jade’s number from Bucky’s phone. “I… don’t know if this is going to be enough, Bucky,” you told him, handing it back. “Those things I read just now… They’re honestly making me question everything. Our entire history.”
“I’ll do whatever it takes,” he said, putting his forehead to yours. “If this is just step one, then it’s step one. I’ll take however many steps you ask me to until I make this right.”
“You’ve gotta be one hundred percent on this, Buck,” you said. “Because if you’re not, if I find out that you couldn’t keep this promise to me, there’s no coming back. You’ll be the one who’s so iced out, it’ll make Siberia feel downright tropical.”
Bucky grinned slightly. “I’m positive, sweets,” he said, putting a hand on top of yours. “You’re all I want, and I’ll spend the rest of my life proving it to you if I have to.”
You narrowed your eyes at him. It wasn’t that you didn’t trust him. It was just that, well, you didn’t fucking trust him. “FRIDAY?” you called.
“Yes, Ms. (Y/L/N)?”
“Please alert me any and every time Sergeant Barnes and Ms. Carthage have an interaction in the Tower going forward. I request audio and video footage be sent to me immediately should they cross paths.”
“Yes, Ms. (Y/L/N). For clarification, do you want alerts for physical, audio, or digital interactions to be sent to you?”
“All of it, FRIDAY,” you said, watching Bucky very carefully for any sign of discomfort or uneasiness over your course of action, but you saw none. “And do not allow an override without my express verbal consent and company password.”
The AI agreed and promised to alert you if any such interaction occurred.
“That was very thorough,” Bucky said, sounding somewhat petulant. “You really had to cover all the bases, didn’t you?”
“Well, I had to have someone I trust keeping an eye out on things,” you said pointedly. Bucky flinched, the expression on his face faltering.
“I am going to make this right, doll. I swear to you.”
“I’m tired of you telling me, Buck,” you said, really needing to drive your point home. “It's your last chance to actually grow up and start showing me.”

“I’m an escort.” Toji says which leaves you wide-eyed. You aren’t sure how to react, other than simply staring at the man. You’re dumbfounded. Dumbfounded even sounds like an understatement. Your mouth is parted, and you’re simply shocked to even hear that. Maybe you should’ve suspected that, but you didn’t. “I’m not dating anyone.”
“Yeah um…” You really aren’t sure how else to respond. You still feel hurt mainly because he hid this from you. You’re gathering your thoughts, and you think about talking this out with him but you aren’t sure if he’ll accept the offer to talk right at this moment; you’re afraid to ask.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” He asks, his hand still on the door. You bite down on your tongue, holding back on making a snarky remark due to the words he used not even five minutes ago. You clear your throat, tilting your head to the side,
“Is that any of my business?” You respond as you move to the side to let him in. It’s too cold outside for him to explain something that seems like a mouthful to explain. He walks inside and you shut the door. You watch him take a seat. “Don’t waste time, Toji. I’m tired.”
“Right…” He looks at the ground in shame. You’re not in the mood to comfort him, and you certainly aren’t going to tell him that him being an escort is no big deal. “Momoko and I aren’t dating. She just… Pretends like we are to her friends and her coworkers and parents– Just everyone around her. I look… Presentable enough and I guess she likes that I don’t really try to engage with them.”
“Okay…” Your brain isn’t coming up with the right words to say. “So how far–”
“Just going to events. Doesn’t get past flirting and occasional pecks on the lips.” He answers, and while it’s not as horrible as you thought, your stomach still churns. You don’t like what you’re hearing– But it’s fine, you’re not dating Toji or anything. He’s just your neighbor who you’ve gotten extremely friendly with. You take a deep breath and slowly nod your head. “What’s up?”
“Why didn’t you tell me this? Why are you doing all of this?” Questions flood your head. You aren’t really sure what you’re expecting to hear, but you hope that it’ll put you at ease.
“I didn’t want to scare you away… It’s not something that I’m exactly proud of.” He tells you, fidgeting his hands, not really having the courage to look at you. Toji isn’t a man that’s ashamed of anything but for some reason as he stands before you, he finds himself extremely embarrassed that he’s doing all of this. “I… Just want to save up a lot of money and buy Megumi a proper house, where he has his own room and can go outside and play in his own yard. Fixing cars is not enough with all my expenses.”
“I– I don’t know what to say, Toji.” You’re simply shocked. Maybe you should’ve expected it, but you were hoping he was a waiter or something along those lines. Not an escort. “I guess… You have to do whatever you have to do.”
“So what do you think?” He asks when you sit in complete silence for a minute, although it feels like it’s an eternity. He finally looks at you, watching as you stare down at your thighs. You really don’t know what to say, it’s not something light.
“You should’ve told me sooner.” You have no other words. Maybe if you found out sooner than you would’ve taken the news better. It’s not that you’re upset but… This is all so confusing for you. “I guess there isn’t that much trust between us and… It’s not something that you’re exactly proud of.”
“I mean, do you look at me differently now?” He questions, and you do. But mainly because he tried to hide it. He just makes it seem like he’s actually sleeping with them and– God, the idea of him sleeping with other women makes you upset.
“Did you… Fuck any of them?” You ask, and he quickly shakes his head. That makes you feel a lot better, but you still feel pretty weird. “I guess, I do. I just thought you would’ve told me. Considering that I almost consider you a boyfriend.”
“I guess sometimes things aren’t how we want.” He responds. You sigh, and he stands up from the bed, beginning to walk towards the door. His hand lands on the doorknob, and he turns to look at you. You stare at each other for a moment before he speaks up, “I hope things don’t change between us.”
“I hope so too.” You muster to say. He opens the door and exits, making you lay down on your bed. You don’t want things to change, Toji has been making you feel so good.
But you know things will change. There’s no way they can remain the same after finding out the truth.
It’s not because he’s an escort– Well not entirely. You feel weird knowing that Toji’s been hiding this from you. The idea of Toji kissing other women for the sole purpose of money makes you sick. You doubt that you’ll be sleeping tonight.
You’re more concerned about what he’s doing, rather than questioning who sent you the photos. Who knows about you and Toji? You have an answer, but you don’t really care to think about it. Your main concern right now is your relationship with Toji, a man who you thought you had a possible romantic relationship with.
Tumblr media
You want to say that things remain unchanged, but they aren’t. You’re awkward around Toji, the same way he’s awkward around you. The only reason you interact now it’s because of Megumi, and it makes you feel upset because you were sure a relationship was developing.
Slowly your walls were coming down and you’d allow yourself to be with the man that you were starting to like more than a friend. Sadly, things didn’t turn out the way you were hoping.
You try not to dwell on it, maybe you’re just not meant to be with each other. It’s fine though, your hopes weren’t up too much. You won’t deny how weird this whole arrangement is. You feel like you’re trying to coparent Megumi even though he’s not your son. At least now Toji is paying you some money, even if it isn’t a lot.
You want to act like everything is okay, but for some reason you find yourself upset when he’s working late nights, and your mind wonders just exactly what he’s doing. At least it doesn’t get past kissing; at least that’s what he told you. You aren’t quite sure if you can believe Toji’s word.
The first week of February strikes you, and you’re shocked to realize just how fast time is going. It’s been over a month since you’ve had your conversation with Toji, over a month since he last kissed you. You don’t miss it, at least that’s what you tell yourself.
You don’t like Toji all that much either way. That sentiment slowly fades away. A little too slow for your liking, but regardless, it’s leaving.
As Valentine’s day approaches, you find yourself a bit saddened though since you were expecting to have a Valentine’s this year. First it was Kento, your late husband, since you expected him to last longer. That hope clearly vanished, but as you got closer to Toji, maybe he could be your Valentine.
The most unexpected thing though is when you’re in your apartment taking care of Megumi. He has a little backpack– Which isn’t exactly so little. It reaches past his knees and he has to be careful with it. You have no idea why Toji got that backpack for him since it’s plain black and boring, not to even mention twice his size. He’s looking for something there.
“What are you looking for, GumiGumi?” You ask him, crouching down to help the little boy that looks determined to find something. He finally pulls out a wrinkled piece of paper that’s folded in half. It’s a card, and it’s filled with attempted shapes. You squint your eyes, trying to make out what it is. “What is that, honey?”
“Would you be my valentine?” He asks, as he extends his arm to you. You feel your heart soften, your bottom lip sticking out as you put your hand over your heart. He’s simply the cutest. You always knew you wanted kids but this just confirms it even more. You hug him.
“Of course, baby.” You respond. You kiss his temple, a big smile on your face when you look at him. Maybe you won’t be so lonely this Valentine’s day, you still have Megumi who is almost like your son. Knowing Toji, he’ll be busy. “Do you want to do something special? Maybe go to the movie theater or get something to eat?”
“Can we get ice cream?” He asks, a spark in his eyes as he mentions the cold treat. You end up nodding in response, causing the biggest smile to come to his face. Then he asks, “Can daddy come with us?”
“If he’s available, yes, baby.” You answer. When you fully stand up, you put the card down on the counter and you ask him, “Do you want anything specific to eat, Megumi?”
“No.” He shakes his head. You walk over to the fridge to look at what ingredients you have that can make a quick and easy meal. You’re not really in a cooking mood.
You hear your phone ring, and you furrow your brows. You grab it to see an unknown number calling. You’re about to hang up the call since lately a lot of weird numbers have been calling you. Something urges you to pick it up, and when you do, you almost regret it. You heard your name, and you aren’t sure whether you should confirm or deny.
“This is her.” You end up confirming it. Your eyes widen when you hear it’s from the hospital, and you feel your heart drop. You remember a similar call years ago, and it ended up in you losing so much. “Who is in the hospital?”
Your eyes immediately dart to the little boy who opens his notebook to scribble with his crayons. God you hope it’s not– “Toji Fushiguro? I’ll be on my way.”

Two Days Ago
Ellie had been walking around campus with her hood over her head and eyes to the ground all day. She’d been ignoring calls & texts from her friends and clients and, to her growing annoyance, Daniela. She’d attended all her classes, but she’d sit as far back as possible and avoid any interactions or eye contact. During her breaks, she’d find some remote spot behind a building or in a secluded stairwell to smoke in private.
It was late afternoon now and Ellie’d just dashed out of her last class of the day. She didn’t want to go home to her apartment where she’d get ambushed by Jesse and, most likely as well, Dina. But she had nowhere else to loiter where she’d be able to sulk and smoke in peace, and her phone was also dying.
The walk to her and Jesse’s apartment was barely ten minutes from campus, but Ellie made sure to stretch it out to almost twenty. She walked four flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator like she usually would. She couldn’t even hear the jingling of her keys over the deafening sounds of Kendrick Lamar blasting in her earphones as she unlocked the front door.
The previous evening felt completely surreal. Ellie would have assumed it was just some rage-induced nightmare if it weren’t for the throbbing pain in her black eye and bruised right hand. After Jesse was able to pry Frat Guy Adam off of her before he could do any real damage and hastily convince him that she was probably tripping off of this strong new strain she got, Ellie immediately shut herself in her bedroom for the rest of the night. The only thing Jesse could get out of her before she disappeared behind her door was, “I seriously can’t fucking believe she’s letting her fuck her again.”
As Ellie crossed the doorway of the apartment, the second verse of “HUMBLE.” was abruptly yanked out of her ears by Dina’s quick fingers.
“Jesus fuck—Dina!” Ellie fussed, irritated as she attempted to grab her earphones back.
Dina said nothing as she balled them up and shoved them into her back pocket.
“How the fuck did you even know I was coming?” Ellie grumbled, knowing full well that she, Dina, and Jesse all indefinitely shared their respective locations with each other on their phones.
“Let’s talk, El.” Dina merely sighed.
Ellie scoffed in response and held out her hand.
“Can I have my earphones back?” She asked.
“No.”
“Seriously?”
“Ellie, we need to talk!”
Ellie didn’t reply as she stomped off towards her bedroom. She was about to slam the door in Dina’s face when she was met with Jesse’s back turned to her with sandpaper in one hand and a paint scraper in the other.
“Uhh, what the fuck, dude?” Ellie asked, dropping her backpack on top of her desk.
“I knew you’d leave your knife in here for the next two months or so if I didn’t do anything about it.” Jesse replied, sanding down the area where the knife once was lodged into the wall.
Dina leaned against the doorway with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Told him that you were too attached to that thing to not yank it out yourself, but he insisted on doing it and cleaning up your mess. As per usual.” Dina said, motioning to the small bucket of white plaster by Jesse’s feet.
“Yeah, I’m not cleaning all that up, though.” Jesse said, gesturing to all the dust now covering a portion of the bedroom floor.
Ellie shrugged off her hoodie and hung it on the back of a chair. She spotted her now-unstuck switchblade on top of some books on her desk and quickly pocketed it.
“Okay, well, can you guys maybe get out of my room now?” Ellie huffed, collapsing lazily onto her bed before grabbing a comic book on her bedside table that she had previously been reading the night before.
“We can,” Dina replied. “But we’re not going to.”
Ellie rolled her eyes and flipped a page.
Jesse and Dina shared a collective look and a heavy sigh.
“Dude, we gotta talk about yesterday.” Jesse insisted. “You seriously can’t keep ignoring this.”
“What the fuck even happened, really?” Dina asked.
“What, this one didn’t tell you?” Ellie replied, nodding towards Jesse’s direction without looking up from her comic book.
“All he told me is that you got your shit rocked by some frat guy trying to buy from you.”
“Hey!” Ellie said, sitting up and throwing her hands up in the air in indignation. “I fucked him up!”
“Then why do you have a black eye?” Dina questioned.
Ellie grumbled something unintelligible and sat back down to return to reading. Dina rolled her eyes.
“All I did was introduce him to her and she just suddenly wailed on him.” Jesse explained to Dina.
“I already knew who the fuck he was.” Ellie said behind her comic book.
“Oh shit, yeah,” Jesse recalled. “She did say she remembered him, and then she went nuts.”
“Who was this again?” Dina asked, eyebrows furrowing.
“Adam Patterson from Sigma Eta.” Jesse replied.
“Yeah, I have no idea who that is.” Dina admitted.
“He came with our group to the diner the other night after the party,” Jesse said at the same time that Ellie said, “He was at Sterling’s with us.”
Dina’s knitted eyebrows straightened out in recognition.
“Oh, wait, was he that douchebag that sat next to—”
“Yes.” Ellie interrupted angrily.
Jesse and Dina immediately shared a look.
“Does this have anything to do with Abby Anderson?” Dina asked Ellie.
“Wait, what about Anderson?” Jesse questioned, eyebrows furrowing.
“You didn’t tell him?”
“Tell me wh—“ Jesse started but was cut off when his phone started buzzing furiously.
He took out his phone from his back pocket and frowned.
“Ah shit,” He muttered. “I gotta help Sidney set up with the open mic.”
“Now?” Dina asked.
“It’s every other Tuesday and I promised her.” Jesse shrugged.
He walked over to Dina to give her a quick peck on the lips before turning towards Ellie, pointing at her sharply.
“When I get back, I want to hear why the hell you’ve lost your goddamn mind.” He demanded of her before leaving the room. A few seconds passed before they heard the front door close behind him.
Dina sighed, uncrossed her arms, and strolled over to sit at the foot of Ellie’s bed. She unconcernedly shoved Ellie’s dirty Converse to the side, earning her a kick from Ellie which she easily dodged.
“Can you stop assaulting every single person you come across, Williams?” Dina said after slapping the foot that tried to punt her.
“Can you get out of my room?” Ellie asked, ignoring her question.
“Did you really try to beat the shit out of that Adam guy ‘cause of—“
“Why are we still talking about this?” Ellie immediately interjected.
“Because you’re out here attacking innocent people because of her!”
Ellie remained quiet as she sat up straight and placed her comic book back on her nightstand before replying.
“He called her a fucking queer, D.”
Dina blinked and stared at her.
“He did what?”
“When we were at Sterling’s the other night.”
“Oh, shit.” Dina whispered. “Okay, well, maybe not so innocent then.”
“No, he’s fucking not.” Ellie seethed, fists clenching.
“Okay, but it’s not really helping anyone if you get kicked out of school ‘cause you’re out here beating the shit out of some grade-A douchebag who most definitely deserved it,” Dina added, seeing that Ellie was about to interrupt. “Are you really that pissed off that she’s seeing Abby Anderson?”
“She can see whoever the fuck she wants. It’s really none of my business.” Ellie replied stubbornly.
“Ellie, c’mon, when are you going to face your fucking feelings for her for once?” Dina said. “You couldn’t man the fuck up when you were together, and now you don’t even speak to each other and you still won’t admit it.”
“Sorry that I’m too emotionally constipated for you.”
Dina rolled her eyes but then suddenly giggled.
“What?” Ellie asked.
“That’s probably the first time that you haven’t corrected me on the fact that you were together.”
Ellie kicked her softly.
“Oh, shut up.” Ellie retorted.

Yesterday
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You need to wrap that shit up better, El.” Dina said, gesturing to Ellie’s poorly bandaged right hand.
The sun was beginning to set, and Dina and Ellie’s shadows glided alongside each other on the brick pathway. Pink rays of light peeking from the sky hit Ellie’s freckles so beautifully that it almost distracted from her bruised eye.
“What? It’s fine.” Ellie shrugged.
“The wraps are already coming off, dumbass.” Dina noted.
“My bad, I’m not studying to be a doctor, unlike some people.” Ellie said, quickly murmuring the last part.
Dina merely rolled her eyes at this, refusing to engage further in Ellie’s growing vendetta against Abby Anderson.
They walked for about another ten minutes to reach the diner, chatting nonsensically about their classes and friends and some new asshole clients that Ellie had recently acquired.
Ellie had Dina laughing about her secretly charging some senior jock douchebags twice as much as usual for shamelessly hitting on her when they walked through the doors of Sterling’s. Ellie suddenly felt a strange ache in her stomach as they entered the restaurant. When she felt wary eyes on her, her discomfort was immediately explained.
Her gaze unintentionally met yours, her ocean green eyes widening in shock. The expression on your face mirrored her thoughts as her freckles turned bright pink. You both turned to your friends simultaneously in panic.
“Dina, what the fuck!” Ellie hissed.
“What?” Dina said, not realizing the situation they’d walked into.
“Did you do this shit on purpose?” Ellie demanded of her.
“What the hell are you going on about?” Dina asked, still clueless as she was busy looking around for the diner’s hostess.
“Can you please use your eyes for one second?”
“Wh—” Dina began but stopped suddenly when she saw what had caught Ellie’s rapt attention.
“Goddamn it,” Dina muttered. “Alright, hang on.”
Ellie watched as Dina marched over to the small table where you and Jesse were having dinner. Her eyes fell on you once more, remembering the last time she saw you with Abby Anderson. She suddenly felt a pang of guilt wash over her when she thought about the last conversation you’d had in the bathroom of this same diner, her eyes tearing away from your figure to stare at her old Converse.
God, I’m such a fucking dickhead.
She teetered back and forth on her feet as she felt shame seeping through her bones. She didn’t look back up until the diner’s hostess approached her.
“Hi, how many in your party?” She asked.
“Oh, uh, no. I’m here for pick-up?” Ellie replied.
“Oh gotcha, what’s the name?”
“It should be under Dina Woodward.”
“Okay! One second, ma’am.”
Ellie watched as the hostess headed to the back as Dina made her way back towards her.
“What the hell, D?” Ellie hissed.
“Seriously, I didn’t know!” Dina replied, throwing her hands up defensively.
“This isn’t funny!”
“El, I swear to god, I really had no idea they were gonna be meeting here.”
“You didn’t tell me that Jesse was hanging out with her tonight!”
“That didn’t seem like information relevant to you.” Dina said, crossing her arms.
“How is it not—”
“She’s not your fucking girlfriend, Ellie.” Dina pointed out.
Ellie looked taken aback as the hostess reappeared before them.
“Order for Dina Woodward?” She said, holding out a plastic bag.
“Yes?” Dina replied, but before she could reach for the food, Ellie had already grabbed it with her left hand and angrily shoved the entrance door open with her right.
She stomped away from the diner several feet away before Dina could catch up to her, far away enough for Dina not to catch the tears that she struggled to keep from falling.
Tumblr media
Present Day
Ellie lays on her sheets, head at the foot of her bed and dinosaur sock-covered feet propped up on one of her pillows. She was senselessly and poorly strumming on her guitar. It was Friday evening and she was bored and all alone in the apartment, Jesse and Dina having gone out together on a movie date. She had contemplated going to the gym as she usually did whenever she was in a mood, but Dina had reprimanded her about her injured state enough that Ellie relented on spending a lonely night in. She strums lousily on the guitar with her injured hand, ignoring the throbbing of her wounded knuckles.
She’d finally texted Daniela back earlier that day, apologizing spiritlessly for not replying back sooner. She humoured Daniela’s flirty texts for a while until Ellie asked for Joel’s old jacket back, to which Daniela offered to come over to her apartment tonight to return. Feeling her intent, Ellie put her off by saying she had plans to meet up with several new clients all night and offered to meet up with her the next day instead. Ellie’d groaned when Daniela quickly responded with a text saying “it’s a date ;)” and immediately regretted the situation she’d pulled herself into.
Her fingers begin mindlessly plucking a succession of concordant chords, and it isn’t until a few moments later that she realizes she’d started to play an old love song that she remembers you’d liked so much.
It was an old 80s song called “It Might Be You” by Stephen Bishop. She’d often hear you thoughtlessly humming it to yourself or singing along to it when you’d put on your nearly ten-hour 80s playlist. She’d subsequently learned how to play it on the guitar to possibly serenade you with it eventually, only to never have the courage to do so when you were together.
Ellie exhales woefully, setting her guitar down next to her.
Why is she still everywhere?
She sits up to properly lay herself on her bed, flopping her head down onto her pillow before reaching for her phone that was charging on her nightstand.
Time to be a loser as usual again, Williams.
She sighs pathetically as she opens up Instagram once more, switching from her main account back over to br!ck_master2013. Even though Instagram already showed her recent searches (consisting only of you), she feels a pathetic sense of fulfillment typing out your entire username herself. Ellie taps on that same mirror selfie of yours which leads her to your profile.
You still have no new posts from the last time she checked, but she sees that you’d added something to your story sometime within the past day. She ignores the uneasiness in her stomach as she taps on the orange and purple circle to view what you’d posted.
You’d shared a few mutual aid posts earlier this morning (to which Ellie promptly saves to later donate to after her slight stalking), a picture that some of your old high school friends had posted of an up-and-coming band they were currently in, and a couple of new stories that causes Ellie to abruptly shoot up from her bed and promptly unplugging her phone from the wall.
“What the fuck?” She mutters out loud to herself, not in reference to the unceremonious way she stopped charging her phone, but to the Instagram stories that you were posting in real time.
Ellie taps furiously as she realizes that you were out tonight at the lesbian bar by campus, the Bow and Arrow. With Abby Anderson.
She makes a wild guess that you were likely drunk at the moment, judging by the silliness of your story captions. Your first bar-related story is a selfie you’d taken of yourself with the caption, “me going out to a bar to get smacked instead of being an old lady at home? quick, someone call the pope.” Despite the low lights of your environment, Ellie recognizes the shade of dark red lipstick you’re wearing.
That’s the lipstick she was wearing when—
Her thoughts are interrupted by her app automatically jumping to the next story, which was of you toasting your half-empty plastic cup with others that were being held up by faceless hands with the caption, “liquor, i hardly know her.” Ellie couldn’t help but chuckle out loud at your stupid joke. She would have bet her Jeep, her whole stash of weed, her beloved switchblade, and her entire precious comic book collection that the drink you had in your hand was a vodka cranberry.
Your next Instagram story drops a cast steel anvil down Ellie’s stomach.
It was a shaky picture of Abby Anderson making a mockingly pouty face towards the camera, holding out a credit card in one of her hands. It looked as if she and you were sitting at the bar, waiting to be served by a bartender. Your caption read, “hey siri, how do you beat up a buff, jacked lesbian who lives at the gym and won’t stop paying for your drinks all night.”
Ellie notices that you’d tagged Abby’s Instagram handle on the side and she promptly taps on it with trembling fingers. She huffs at her phone when she’s brought to Abby’s profile and sees that it’s set to private. She falls back onto her pillow and sighs.
“Ellie!!” You yelled after her as she stomped out of the Bow and Arrow.
She said nothing as she exited the bar and veered left into an empty backstreet lit only by the moonlight and a dim streetlamp.
Ellie walked further into the alleyway until she was a safe distance from any passersby. She took out a metal tin from one of her jacket’s front pockets and pulled out a tightly-wrapped joint. She tucked it between her teeth as she reached into a front pocket in her jeans for a lighter, promptly lighting the tip of the joint. She inhaled for a few seconds, letting the drug seep throughout her enraged body, then released an exhale towards the starry night sky.
She heard the agitated clicking of high heels and glanced down towards the main street to inspect whoever was approaching her. You were rubbing your hands up and down your arms, your favourite black boots nearly skipping down the alleyway to desperately generate heat in the frigid, unforgiving December air. You followed the familiar scent of lavender-laced marijuana into the dark street, spotting Ellie smoking alone.
Ellie watched as your shivering figure walked towards her, your despondent eyes eventually reaching her furious green ones.
“Smoking one of my js without me?” You teased.
“Your js?” Ellie asked, chuckling despite herself.
“Well, it’s my recipe.” You said, yanking the joint from her fingertips to place it between your lips which were painted with a dark shade of red.
“Oh, please, all you do is add buds of crushed lavender into them.” Ellie scoffed as the tip of the joint lit up once more from you taking a hit of it.
“Lavender buds are a key ingredient to creating these primo joints. It’s an intricate part of the process; ergo it is a recipe.” You insisted after blowing the residual smoke to the side.
“Besides,” You added. “You talk a whole lot of smack for someone who seems to copy my recipe all the time now, both for her clients and for herself.”
Ellie would have usually bantered with a witty retort, but she instead settled for an indignant huff.
After a few more hits, you handed the joint back to her.
“You done?” She asked you.
“Mhmm.”
She nodded, putting out the joint on the wall she was leaning against and placing what was left of it back in her metal tin. You stared at her as she did this, noticing that she was purposely refusing to make eye contact with you.
“Els.” You said.
“Mm?”
“Show me your hand.” You sigh.
“No.”
“El, babe, come on.” You insisted.
She exhaled and relented when her cheeks blushed at the term of endearment, holding out her right hand to you.
You took it in between both of yours, attempting to examine it under the dull yellowish light of the streetlamp. Your fingertips softly brush against her knuckles.
“Okay, not so bruised thankfully.” You murmured. “Does it hurt?”
Ellie merely shrugged in response.
“Els…” You whined at her stubbornness.
“I’m fine.”
You stared at her serious expression, still unable to get her to look at you.
“You dummy.” You chuckled lightly.
Ellie huffed.
You stroked her hand a couple more times before lightly placing a kiss on her slightly injured knuckles.
Despite the frigid winter air, Ellie immediately felt every part of her go up in flames. The only chilly part of her body was her hand which you’d brushed your cold lips against just moments before.
“Here,” She said, pulling her hand away from you so she could shrug off Joel’s old motorcycle jacket from her shoulders and place it on yours. “Baby, you’re fucking freezing.”
“El—”
“You’re freezing.” She repeated.
You smiled slightly before caving in to say, “Maybe a little bit.” Ellie chuckled.
“Elliie…” You began. “You didn’t have to do all that—”
“I know.”
“But—”
“I know.”
You tried to decipher her unreadable expression, your heart ready to burst as it beat rapidly in your chest.
“Why, Ellie? Why’d you have to take it to that extreme?”
Ellie’s ocean-green eyes were fierce and resolved. She brings her mildly bruised hand up to your face to intimately caress your cheek.
“You know why.” She whispers, finally meeting your gaze.
“I—”
The memory of staring into your eyes causes Ellie’s own to shoot open.
She’s still in her room, laying on her bed all alone with her phone on her chest and guitar on her side. The images of you in the alleyway of the Bow and Arrow replay alongside those of you and Abby so boldly displayed on your Instagram story tonight.
Ellie remains so engrossed in her own thoughts that she doesn’t notice all the hot tears rapidly streaming down her face. She grips her sheets and sighs.
“Baby, I’m so sorry.” She whispers to no one.
Maybe she’ll forgive me one day.

this is an additional chapter of my series "caught in the middle", if you enjoyed this, consider checking it out! 🩵
Tumblr media
"When was the last time you cried?"
The question caught Satoru off-guard. Sometimes, words would leave your mouth that would make him feel so small and stupid. He straightened his back, standing tense and tall. A million thoughts raced through his head about what could have possibly prompted you to ask such a silly question.
Did he look like he cried recently? Are you asking just out of pure curiosity? What made you think about that right now in the first place?
"I cried yesterday when you punched me, remember?"
You punch him again.
"Stop fooling around, you know what I mean...like really cry." You don't look at him when you say this. Trying to get Gojo's mood to match yours was about as easy as getting him to shut up for more than 5 minutes.
But tonight, you felt extra vulnerable for no apparent reason at all.
"I don't remember. It's been a while. I probably haven't cried since I was five."
You hum in acknowledgement, your hand running up the material of the sweater you had worn that night, fingernails brushing against one of the larger loops in your knitted sweater.
And because it's Gojo, of course, this rare, vulnerable sentence must be followed up with a 3-minute monologue with the sole purpose of sucking his own dick.
"I mean... What would I even cry about? I'm pretty. I'm talented. I'm funny and smart. I have no reason to waste my tears. Tears of joy, maybe. Because I was born so pretty and smart and talented and-"
"I cried last night," you interrupted Gojo with a shrug. It was spoken with so little emotion like you were just throwing it out there. A quick, fun little life update as if you were telling him about a new show you started last night.
"...huh?!" Gojo was shocked. He was unable to process this information, as well as unsure what he was supposed to do now. Because, unbeknownst to you, in his eyes, you were just about as talented and intelligent and maybe even a little prettier than him, so this didn't make any sense.
"Why would you ever need to cry? Who made you cry?!" This sentence left his mouth in a way more harsh, belittling and "invalidating your problems" kind of tone than he had intended.
This was Gojo Satoru, after all, of course, the question is who, what else could there be but people that hurt people?
You, knowing he was just a spoiled, confused little child on the inside (and the outside), recognised his intention behind the sentence anyway and answered.
"I don't know...I just wanted to."
"Wanted to?" Gojo was beyond confused. Crying had become a distant concept to him a long time ago. Usually, whenever he felt overwhelmed or hurt, his emotions would skip sadness and instantly transform into annoyance or anger. But for you, it seemed freeing.
For Gojo, crying was a line that mustn't be crossed, a door unopened, its key buried in a drawer in the room he grew up in.
"It's okay to want to cry. Nothing to feel guilty about. The heart knows what it wants."
But for you, crying was something good, letting everything you had carried with you seep out, wipe it away with a tissue and let it dry out, long forgotten in the trash.
You had learned not to let it overflow or push yourself to test how much you can carry. Sometimes, you just felt weak, and everything else felt heavy, and you had accepted that.
Of course, Gojo Satoru wouldn't know what that's like. He had never felt weak in his life, and something inside of you told you that you wouldn't live to see many instances in which he would.
"I felt much better after," you elaborated, seeing him go through the mental turmoil you hoped to ease his mind, "I feel much better now."
Gojo doesn't understand. He understands so little he doesn't even know where he'd begin to attempt to understand.
He's physically distraught by the confusion you had just set aflame in him.
"Well...if you ever cry again, you better not come to me because I am not at all emotionally capable of handling that."
You roll your eyes but grin nonetheless, nudging him with your shoulder before stepping closer and pressing yourself into him. Instinctively, Gojo raises his arm, letting you slip underneath as he places his hand on the sleeve of your sweater.
One of his fingers gets stuck in a loop, his eyes get stuck on your smile, and he tries hard not to kiss you right then and there.
Continuing to stare, a fluttery hot feeling formed in his chest, and he realised just how braver you were than him for giving in to what your heart wanted.

The updates are a lot smaller than my usual works and that bugs me a bit but I have a lot planned and it won’t be such a long gap between each chapter from now on lol. Reminder to check out the playlist for hints and general vibe! NOT PROOFREAD but u knew that
“What are you even talking about dude, I beat you five to one easy. It wasn’t even close.” Jake’s voice was laughing out as he rested back on the couch, swinging an arm forward in emphasis towards his friend.
“No you don’t get it, if we had a rematch I’d whoop you.” Jay was quick to respond, a gloomy look on his face from losing so terribly and the younger boys broke into a fit of giggles at his attitude.
The day had been quiet, picking up each other from school one by one and heading back to Jake’s place. His mom had been out of town for the month on a business trip and it’d become their official club house for the time being, messier than it should’ve been with blankets covering any surface that could serve as a temporary bed.
Heeseung was pushing through the front door with a strange expression on his face, glancing behind in the hallway before locking the deadbolt and peaking out of the peephole. Sweat was coating his face and the other boys stopped laughing as they looked at him.
“It’s that bad out there now?” Jungwon was asking in a soft voice and Heeseung jumped a bit before glancing at him and giving him a solid nod.
News stations had been buzzing for weeks but nobody paid too close of attention outside of the people with particularly raging anxiety. Reports of cannibalisms, first in America and then the neighboring countries.
The boys hadn’t thought much of it, some crazy new drug that would never make it this far or mass hysteria. Then it was announced that it was a disease, something that couldn’t be helped and borders could not stop and things started to get a bit more wary. Some stores were shutting down, families leaving to their summer houses out in the country and yesterday Jay had been cut from work early.
“I don’t know, I don’t think we can wait anymore.” Heeseung was muttering and Jake sat up on the couch, raising an eyebrow in bewilderment.
“You mean like leave? Where would we even go?” He was asking and his question made them all fall silent, knowing he was right and they didn’t have a safe haven to disappear to like others did. They all had families but they weren’t extremely close now that they were older, spending most of their time together and only coming home to get scolded for poor grades.
Heeseung was shaking his head and turning towards them fully to scan the room, freezing up slightly when his head count came up one short. “Where’s Riki?”
“He.. had that exam I think. Must’ve had to stay late.” Sunoo was saying it slowly to try and explain but a feeling of dread settled over everybody at the realization he was out there alone, not yet realizing how quickly things were falling apart.
“Is it really that bad Heeseung?” Jay was asking in confusion, just yesterday they all were walking around casually outside of the few religious nut jobs screaming about the end of days.
Heeseung didn’t say anything for a long time, like he couldn’t decide if he wanted to relay what he had saw or if he just wanted to let them think things were okay for a few minutes longer. He knew he had witnessed stuff that wasn’t going to be fixed anytime soon, stuff that would change how they lived from now on and he wasn’t sure he was ready to fully embrace that.
He was clearing his throat to speak but the words fell short and he made his way over to the kitchen counter instead, taking Jungwon’s moms keys and glancing at him for permission.
The younger boy looked confused but he gave him a small nod, eyes widening a touch when the oldest hesitated before going back into the kitchen and returning with the largest cooking knife available.
“Woah, you can’t go out there with that. You’ll get arrested dude.” Sunghoon was rushing out, suddenly paying attention and alert now as he sat up off the couch and raised his hands towards Heeseung.
“I don’t think there’s anybody left to arrest me.” He was spitting out but he wasn’t angry at his friends, just stricken with fear and anxiety at the thought of returning back outside but he couldn’t stand the idea of Riki being out there alone.
“Well I’ll come with you.” Jay was announcing and standing up, wiping off the chip crumbs from his sweater. Heeseung almost denied him and demanded he stayed here and kept the doors locked but he figured he might not be able to make it alone and Jay was definitely the most capable of the two of them, strong and sturdy despite his carefree personality.
“The rest of you need to stay put. I don’t care what you hear, or how long it takes for us to come back, you can’t open that door.” He was warning the group and they all paused in fearful hesitance before slowly nodding, the idea of not searching for their friends after a period of time leaving them unsettled.
The two eldest were making their way out of the apartment building, stopping at the entry door to push a vending machine in front of it. Jay looked confused when Heeseung asked him to do it but he followed suit anyways, not wanting to deny the orders considering the fear in his friends face.
Jungwon’s moms van was large and loud, rattling when you pressed too hard on the gas pedal and squealing every time it forced its large frame to a stop. They didn’t drive it often, outside of trips to the beach and going through drive thru’s, and Heeseung was grateful that the roads were uncharacteristically empty as he amateurly made his way through the city streets.
It was complete silent as they pulled up to their youngest friends school, both holding their breath as they leaned forward to see out of the driver side window and try to catch sight of any sign of life.
Heeseung’s heart was throbbing and he felt sick, almost too scared to go and find the boy in case he saw something he wasn’t able to ever forget, something he wouldn’t be able to move past. Jay’s hand was reaching forward to take his arm and he glanced at the other boy, seeing him give him a firm nod with a look of determination. Heeseung gave him a weary smile in return but it was the boost of strength he needed to open the door.
There was debris around the area from the days of mild chaos leading up to this and Jay bent down to grab a particularly long piece of metal, steadying it in front of him like a baseball bat as they got closer to the school doors.
They were unlocked and they quickly realized something was wrong judging by the papers scattered along the hallway, backpack’s abandoned in classrooms like they had to evacuate fast and Heeseung could smell something foul that caused his nose to turn up in disgust.
“Riki.” It was a yelled whisper echoing through the halls, carrying the noise all the way down the silent building until it was reaching the end and bouncing back towards them.
“Hyung? Is that you?” A scared voice was coming from the end of the hallway, shaky and muffled like he was hidden behind something and the two older boys let out a sigh of relief at the confirmation that he was at least okay enough to respond.
They were swift in their approach towards the room the voice had come from, forgetting to be cautious because of their relief and rush to get out of there but they quickly froze when a figure was coming out of one of the classrooms in the middle of the hallway.
Heeseung automatically recognized the signs of the creatures he had seen earlier, staring at the man who was staggering into the hall and turning towards them with his nose in the air. His eyes were yellow and vacant and he had dark liquid around his mouth, still moving his jaw like he was finishing a large meal. The man groaned loudly in their direction, bordering on a screech and the boys could do nothing but stare.
“What the fuck?” Jay was rushing out in an anxious tone, glancing over to his friend who was remaining still and watching it carefully. “Dude what’s wrong with him, what the fuck?”
“He’s got it.” Heeseung was stating matter of factly and Jay paled at the realization, shaking his head in disbelief and faltering backwards a few steps.
Heeseung was approaching the creature slowly and they both jumped when it reared its head and roared in agitation, sloppily approaching them and not faltering even when it almost slipped and crashed into the floor. They watched it approached speedily and when it got near they both circled around it’s back, confusing it momentarily but not long enough before it was attacking again.
The creature pinned Heeseung back against the wall, his hands flailing in front of him as he tried his hardest to shove it away with cries and groans of fear. It’s strength was double what a normal man’s would be and he was seconds from giving up when it was slumping to the ground.
Heeseung dropped off the wall and scrambled over to Jay who was panting with the piece of scrap metal in front of him, dripping thick syrupy blood now that he had smashed it into the figure.
They both watched in horror, attempting to catch their breath, as it begun to rise off the floor again. Shakily standing back to its full height and snarling again at them, seemingly angrier now.
“Oh you’ve gotta be shitting me.” Heeseung was panting out as he stared up at its cracked skull, half of its face sliding downwards and a bloodied mess from the force of Jay’s swing mixed with days of decay.
Both boys watched it as it started to approach again and then Jay was letting out a loud scream, taking a few steps forward and swinging the metal back down on its shoulder. They both froze in anticipation and then fear when the creature didn’t react to the hit at all.
“Oh what the fu-“ He was cut off as the creature swung at him and he dove out of the way with a grunt. “How do you kill this thing?”
“Why the fuck would I know?” Heeseung was screaming back in bewilderment, glancing around in confusion to try and find a way out of the situation but coming up with nothing as he turned back to keep his attention on the man who kept getting more and more unhinged the louder they avoided him and his gaping mouth.
The creature wasn’t getting winded whilst the boys were barely managing to swing their arms anymore, using this to its advantage and catching Jay off guard. Heeseung watched in horror as it pinned his friend to the hallway floor, listening to his screams of terror and gasp of air from under its heavy frame.
He didn’t think twice before he was rushing forward, and throwing the entirety of his weight into its body. He let out a guttural scream and pulled his arm back as far as it could go before driving the knife forward into its softened skull. Jay was, thankfully, getting the memo and rolling out of the way before the creature slammed onto the floor, now fully lifeless.
Both boys collapsed to the floor in fits of gasps and pants. Nobody spoke for a few minutes from shock and then Jay’s tired voice was ringing out. “Dude… you just totally saved my life.”
It was silent again for a few seconds before Heeseung was letting out a soft chuckle, launching the other into a fit of delirious laughter until they were both cracking up with the body in between them.
“Holy shit.” Both boys were pausing at the sound of Riki’s voice, a lot closer now as he pushed his way out of the classroom and was watching them from the end of the hallway. “You guys totally killed Mr. Kim.”
“And then what?” Your voice was completely enthralled as you spoke, leaning forward towards the campfire so your elbows were on your knees and you thought you saw Jake’s lips curl up from the corner of your eye.
“Well… we went back to get the others. We tried to get to family but..” Jay was trailing off but you nodded in understanding and he gave you a grateful look before sighing and continuing with his story. “Heeseung found a map in the pocket of a dead guy on the highway out of the city and he had circled the general area that you found us in, so we assumed it was safe.”
“And it was.” Jake was adding and it was some of his first words of the night, having remained mostly silent and to himself throughout your trip.
It had been two days since you left and you knew everybody was feeling unsettled by the fact you were heading back home now to the unknown. It was a mostly uneventful journey, not stopping much or sleeping more than a few hours with a shared determination to get there and back as soon as humanly possible.
You felt like the universe had cut you a break when you arrived to the veterinary hospital Jungwon had seen on the map, only encountering a handful of walkers and finding some medicine that should do the trick fairly quickly. But you knew the universe wasn’t kind nor was she fond of handing out breaks so your stomach clenched with the idea of what could be waiting for you back at the camp.
Sunghoon could’ve died from blood loss and infection and passed along the traumatizing act of putting him down before he turned, or he could’ve turned in the night and taken out a few of his brothers before anybody was awake enough to put a stop to it.
You knew the two boys with you were thinking similar things so you’d ask for a story to try and keep their minds off of it, listening to Jay carefully as he recounted the first time they’d killed a walker and how happy Riki was that it was his mean teacher that often stuck him in detention.
“Heeseung was our leader before he was ever our leader.” Jay was remarking as he finished his story, scooting down more into the dirt so his back was fully pressed against the rotted log he was resting on.
Jake hummed in agreement and you didn’t say anything, thinking about the statement and the conversation you’d had with the eldest boy about the weight of his responsibilities. You felt a longing for him suddenly, missing him and the others more than you thought you would and you could tell the two with you were thinking the same thing now that it was falling silent again.
You didn’t say anything as you were standing up to stomp out the fire, knowing it was already a risk to strike it up in the first place but especially to sleep with it roaring.
The three of you followed the same routine as the past two nights, stringing up cans in a circle around where you were sleeping so if anything, dead or alive, bumped into it you’d have some form of warning before it was coming down directly on top of you. You laid your head down in the pile of leaves and tried to ignore the sticks sitting uncomfortably under your shoulder blades, falling asleep to the sounds of the forest and the two boys breathing.
——
You’d been walking for a few hours before seeing anything familiar but your body was alert to the fact you were getting closer to the camp again, this time with a backpack full of supplies and a prayer in the back of your mind that things would be okay.
It didn’t take long for you to realize something was off about your surroundings, the woods unusually silent and resting like all the animals and trees were holding their breath. You raised your hand and folded it, a silent signal for the boys to stop walking and fall into a crouched position behind you.
Your eyes were hurriedly scanning over the forest floor and your heart sank when you noticed multiple pairs of tracks and footprints that wouldn’t have been from your group, having no reason to venture this far out. You waved Jake and Jay closer and they quickly shifted forward in their crouched position.
“Is it a hoard?” Jake was whispering to you when you pointed out the shoe prints in the mud, glancing at you with a worried expression. Jay’s eyes were dark with concern and his face was hard, glancing in the direction of the others and frowning.
“I don’t think so.” You were shaking your head and sighing softly as you trailed your finger around the indented mud to explain to them. “The steps are too direct and pointed, if it was walkers they’d be messy and all over the place.”
“So it’s people then.” Jay was saying matter of factly and you all feel into a heavy silence, knowing you had no choice but to continue on the path back home, regardless if there was anybody left waiting for you or not.
You didn’t bother wasting anytime, falling into fast and silent footsteps and you maneuvered your way through the woods, guns drawn and knives out of your holster in case any of the people were still around and surveilling the surrounding woods.
Jay caught sight of something long before you did and you were grateful for his hand that shot out to stop you from rushing right into the view of the man you could now see, pacing back and forth in the center of the little houses and keeping an eye out for anything out of place.
You lip curled up in a sneer but you weren’t exactly sure what to do. If it was up to you, you’d simply take him out from a distance but you didn’t know how many were inside with the boys and if any more were not here, not wanting to risk the safety of the others or the three of you by acting on impulse. Jake seemed to be thinking something similar considering he was tapping your shoulder to get your attention, indicating down to your knives after you looked at him.
You understood what he was implying but you stared at him for a few seconds to make sure he was certain, realizing you hadn’t yet discussed the groups morals when it came to the living.
His eyes were hard as he gave you a solid nod and he mouthed for Jay to have your back as you moved in silent towards the patrol. The man didn’t have time to react before you were behind him, listening to the sound of Jay whistle and bring his attention forward before you were wrapping your hand around his forehead and tilting his head back so his neck was fully exposed to you.
He let out a gurgled shout as you slid your knife across his throat, grunting softly under his weight as you tried to lower him to the ground as silently as possible.
You looked up at Jay after he was on the ground, watching him carefully as he gave you a small nod of acceptance and you sighed softly before returning it to him and waiting for Jake to come out of the woods and meet you. The three of you ducked against one of the houses, your backs pressed against the wood as you listened to try and get a guess of how many people were inside.
“I say we just kill him already.” It was a woman’s voice and she was speaking in a nasty rasp like she was a heavy smoker, your heart pounding at the sentence she spoke. “He’s half dead already, I’ll be pissed if he turns on us and takes a chunk out of my arm.”
You glanced at Jake after she was done speaking and he was already looking at you, both of you relieved to hear that she was talking about Sunghoon still being alive, immediately followed by the dread of what she was implying they should do.
“Touch him and you’ll have bigger problems than him turning.” Heeseung’s voice was speaking now and it was dropped to an octave you’d never heard it in before, cold and serious and he threatened her in a deadly tone.
You heard an annoyed scoff from a male voice before it was followed by the sound of low groans of pain that you made out to be Sunghoon’s, wincing slightly at the hurt in his cries.
“Do something then.” The males voice was speaking in a teasing manner and you heard Sunghoon groan again, likely being hit or kicked by somebody inside to prove a point towards the other boys helplessness. “Oh.. you can’t, that’s right. I forgot.”
There was more sounds after that but you couldn’t fully tell what they were, feeling sick and helpless where you were sitting until Jay was snapping his fingers and getting both of your attention back on him.
He was making signals with his hand and you swiftly understood that he was implying he wanted to rush inside and take them out before they had a chance to react or take any hostages, using the element of surprise to your advantage. Jake seemed more hesitant in the idea although you figured it was only the two of them inside the small house, seeing the car they had arrived it and doubting it could fit more than four people.
Your eyes wandered over to the body on the ground and you steadied your footing in the dirt before nodding softly to Jay and patting Jake on the back.
It went extremely fast, your mind on complete autopilot and devoid of any extreme emotion to help you get through the terrible act without hesitating or missing your shot. Jake was kicking the door open roughly and then stepping back to allow you and Jay to rush forward, relief rushing through you at the confirmation it was only two people and then followed by horror considering how easily you were able to sink your knife into the skull of the woman.
She’d barely had a second to process your arrival, eyes widening in fear and letting out a painful gasp of shock before her face was lifeless and she was crumbling to the floor.
You felt slightly sick that it had been so easy for you to kill two people in the span of minutes but you glanced up at the scared boys huddled around the house and you realized that you didn’t regret it, that you’d do it 100 times again if it was necessary.
Heeseung was tied to the radiator next to Sunghoon, clarifying the reason he hadn’t even able to stop their assault on the boy and you glanced at him to see him far paler and more lifeless than he had been when you’d seen him. He was still alive however and you were rushing to grab the supplies from your bag when you noticed the horror on the boys faces, eyes over your shoulder.
You froze up but before you could turn to see what they were seeing, a shot was ringing out close to your ear and you were completely disoriented for a few seconds.
It took awhile to process what had happened, turning your body in a panic to see a fourth man laying in the doorway of the house. His knife was still rattling against the floor from where he’d dropped it and you saw the exit wound coming out from the backside of his head. You spun back around and your heart crumbled when you saw who it was that had killed the man, saving your life by taking another’s.
Riki was holding the gun in shaky hands, barely able to keep it steady and his eyes were wide in shock and horror, keeping it pointed in your direction despite the threat being gone now.
“Riki.” You were saying softly, still frozen but raising your hands in surrender and taking a small step towards him. You didn’t necessarily think he would hurt you but he clearly wasn’t thinking straight and his fingers were still dangerously tight around the trigger. “Riki, it’s okay. You got him, he’s dead.”
His eyes shot to yours at the words and his face softened slightly, letting you approach and take the gun from his rigid hands.
He was dropping his shoulders in relief once the metal was out of his hands, shocking you by pulling you in for a tight hug that knocked the air out of your lungs. You returned it after a few seconds, wrapping your arms around his shoulders and squeezing him tightly with your eyes shut. You could hear the others moving around, untying Heeseung and greeting the others.
After Riki let you go and went to sit down in the corner and calm down, you quickly administered the medication into Sunghoon’s veins and sighed softly at the heavy breath he took at the feeling of it entering his system. You pushed his damp hair off his sweaty forehead and smiled softly at him even though he couldn’t see it, happy he had managed to fight for this long.
You were standing up again and immediately bumping into another frame, pausing until you realized it was Heeseung.
His hands were coming up to cup your face and you smiled at him in relief despite the cuts on his face and the noticeable black eye that you imagined had come from the struggle with the looters that had led to him being the only one tied up. “You gave them hell didn’t you.”
He laughed softly at your words and nodded his head, eyes gentle as he looked down at you and you felt your heart clench uncomfortably at both his expression and how much you had missed him.
You thought this about them all as the night continued on, telling them how your run had gone and listening to them laugh and tell funny stories that you didn’t fully understand but you still felt a lightness in your heart just from how excited they sounded about remembering the smallest details of things that had happened to them together in the old world.
Riki was still a but subdued after what had happened, not speaking much and staying in the corner as you all ate dinner and took sips from the liquor bottle the three of you had found on the trip. He seemed a bit out of it and your heart felt heavy after Jungwon had leaned in to whisper and explain to you that he had never killed somebody before.
You felt guilty that he had done something like that to save you, your own mistake for not assuming there was another person still outside or checking the tracks more carefully because you were too worried about them and too focus on getting inside as soon as possible. Your care was making you stupid and making you weak, leaving the youngest to lose a piece of himself to fix your mistake.
It was this that made up your mind for you, solidifying that you couldn’t stay here with them any longer or else things like this would keep happening. You’d have to continue to risk yourself for them and vice versa, you couldn’t take watching them hurt themselves in the name of saving you or each other and you knew now that they were always going to put the others and you over themselves individually.
You kept reminding yourself this as you silently packed your bag, waiting for the others to fall asleep and leave you on watch duty before you were preparing to slip out.
You’d stay in the woods outside the camp for the night and make sure nothing hurt them during your watch cycle and then you were going to disappear into the dark cover of the trees once the next person on the rotation woke up and found you missing. You left them all of the medication and food, taking nothing but your change of clothes and your knives.
The crickets were extra loud as you made your way outside, having carefully stepped over the sleeping boys and left a note with detailed instructions on which medications to give to Sunghoon and when. You included a small goodbye sentence just so they knew you hadn’t been taken and didn’t get hurt trying to find you, although you had a feeling they’d try anyways.
You were barely off the porch, your foot hitting the dirt softly and feeling the cold chill of the night when a voice behind you was causing you to jump and spin around.
“So that’s it then?” You whipped around with wide eyes but your face crumbled when you realized who it was, seeing Heeseung come out of the shadows with a hurt expression and hooded eyes. “You’re not even going to say goodbye?”
You froze as you looked at him, words falling short as your mouth open and closed in silence. He scoffed as he looked at you, turning his head away as his eyes teared up slightly but he shook his head in anger before taking a few steps in your direction with a raised accusatory finger.
You’re just going to leave after all this?” He was spitting out at you and the tone of his voice, the disgust lacing his words, made your heart drop into your stomach with a crushing weight.
“I have to.” You replied back with desperation, your face curling up in anguish and you tried to get him to understand even slightly what your reasoning was. “Sunghoon almost died Heeseung, and Riki he… these things will keep happening.”
“He didn’t die.” He was almost yelling now and you flinched back at the volume of his voice, having half a mind to shush him softly and watching the way his face curled up in anger at the sound slipping through your lips. “He didn’t die Y/N, and you were the one who made sure of that. You care about us, I know you do.”
You didn’t know how to reply to that, not wanting to correct him especially when he wasn’t wrong.
You did care about them and it was making your skin crawl every time you found yourself smiling affectionately at one of their offhanded jokes or paying extra attention to their wounds and bruises. Even more so with the boy in front of you with the gentle way he touched you to make sure you weren’t injured, when his face was lit up by campfires or his determination to lead a group of boys through a world he himself didn’t understand.
“I can’t watch it happen.” Your voice was breaking and your shoulders sagged in upset, exhaustion wracking through you both emotionally and physically. “And it always happens, Hee.”
“It won’t happen this time.” He was taking more steps towards you and his hands were shakily coming up to hold your face, staring down at you with his own sense of determination to try and help you see his side of things. “Why didn’t you say bye to me?”
He was asking but you knew he already knew your answer and you tried to pull out of his touch to avoid answering, stopping when his thumb was gently rubbing your cheek and shaking his head to try and stop you.
“Because you wouldn’t be able to leave.” He was answering for you, filling in the blank and giving you a soft sad smile that made you break into a sob, your first time allowing yourself to cry for as long as you could remember. “Right? Tell me I’m right.”
You didn’t say anything but you didn’t need to, feeling him pull you in tightly against his chest as you fully let yourself feel the wave of your emotions, restricting them for so long in the name of survival and fighting to make it through the day.
Heeseung was keeping you in his embrace even when your legs were giving out and you were sinking to the floor in his arms, your hands hitting the dirt and feeling it mold between your fingers. You hooked your head over his shoulder and shut your eyes tight when your gaze fell on the body of the man you’d killed so easily earlier.
You let him hold you like that until your sobs were slowing down and the blood was drying in the grass.
You stayed like that far longer than you’d realized, sitting still and frozen until your cries slowed down and his blood had fully dried in the grass.

A/N: Alright you guys, prepare yourselves for a lot of angst and a sloooow burn. The focus and goal of this story is definitely Curtis x Reader, but as it starts, Colin x Reader is the actual couple. This first part is in Curtis’s pov, but the plan is to alternate povs by chapter.
I hope you love this Curtis as much as I do. If you could let me know what you think with a comment or reblog, I'd appreciate it so much. Thank you for reading, lovelies! 💜

Curtis hated this job.
The sounds of lewd moans and the repeated banging of a headboard hitting the wall filtered through the bedroom door into the common area of the large hotel suite. The new guy, Jensen, shifted uncomfortably in his chair at the small bar off the kitchenette, his eyes frequently cutting to the bedroom door.
“Just ignore it. It’s none of our business.” Curtis growled from his place at the island.
“Right. Sure,” Jensen nodded and just kept looking towards the room. Curtis rolled his eyes. He’d get used to it.
The stylist and hair and makeup people were already set up in the 2nd bedroom. They’d been due to start 20 minutes ago. Michelle, your assistant, came careening out of that room and stopped dead in the center of the living room, locking eyes with Curtis. “We don’t have time for this!” she pleaded with him.
Curtis sighed and nodded and walked over to the bedroom. He banged on the door three times with the side of his fist bellowing, “Time to get going!” He really hated this job.
“What the fuck???” cried a masculine voice from inside, quickly followed by your own uncontrollable giggles.
Five minutes later, you finally came out dressed in a robe from the hotel, your hair all over the place. A man followed you, dressed only in his boxers. Colin. He’d been around for a few months. He was a rockstar, but in Curtis’s opinion, everyone was using that term loosely. He was in a band that was working on its sophomore album. Curtis only knew this because the guy wouldn't shut up about it. He wasn’t any worse than the other fuck boys you usually dated, but he certainly wasn’t the best of them either. Colin collapsed onto one of the loveseats, legs spread wide, and helped himself to the fresh fruit that was laid out on the coffee table.
“Ok!” you said when you got to the center of the room, hands on your hips, megawatt smile fully on display. It was always so blinding, even when he was annoyed with you, like now. “Where am I needed?”
“Go in there, please!” Michelle pointed. “We’re running so late!”
You just laughed. “Which is why you always build extra time into the schedule. Calm down, we’re fine.”
Curtis walked over to Colin and nudged one of his shoes with his own foot to get his attention. “Get dressed,” he growled. “It’s time for you to go.”
“Oh! He’s coming with us,” you said, just as you disappeared into the room, Michelle right on your heels.
Colin smirked obnoxiously up at him and wiggled his eyebrows. “Yeah,” he said, “I’m coming with you.”
“Fine,” Curtis gritted out. “I assume you’ll be wearing clothes when we leave?”
Colin stood up and slapped him on the shoulder. “Don’t you worry, Curty boy, I’ll get myself all pretty for you” and then went back into the main bedroom.
Curtis ran his hands down his face and stared up at the ceiling as he tried to calm himself. He hated this job. Maybe it was time to get into corporate security. Anything had to be better than this.
As he was thinking, Jensen cleared his throat behind him. “Is it always like this?”
“Yes,” he growled out without turning around, and then went to get an updated ETA from Michelle.
Tumblr media
Curtis had been with you for almost two years now. Your team had brought him on during the stalking incident at the MTV Movie Awards. That situation had luckily been resolved quickly, but he'd stayed on after.
On paper, the job was simple. Keep the house secure. Make sure strangers don't get close enough to touch you. Keep your parents as far away from you as possible. Always know the exits. Easy enough.
And he’d been surprised to find that he actually liked you. Outside of the clubs and parties, the VIP sections and private rooms. When you were easier to imagine as just a normal person. You weren’t as entitled as he’d expected. You worked hard and seemed to want to do a good job, even if you couldn’t keep to a schedule to save your life. Sometimes he felt like the wild streak was just something you put on, an obligation. But that was a ridiculous observation. He just worked for you. He didn’t actually know you.
So it’d been a good job for a while, but at some point the balance between wild child and committed actress started to shift. And with that, the hours got longer, the entourage got bigger, the parties got wilder. The fuck boys got worse. It was taking its toll on him and he wasn’t sure how much longer he could do it.
Tumblr media
Curtis was standing in the green room of the talk show, watching your interview on the large TV mounted on one wall. Tanya, your publicist, stood near him, her arms crossed and brow furrowed as she watched, while Michelle sat on the couch, going through emails, and Colin parked himself in front of the food that had been laid out, now on his third beer.
“She’s stiff,” Tanya remarked to no one in particular.
“Yeah, cause you wouldn’t let her have any of that,” Colin said, gesturing with a piece of meat in his hand to the ice bucket full of alcoholic drinks on the coffee table. Tanya had instituted a strict ‘no substances before interviews’ policy after the last time you’d done Kimmel and the interview had gotten a little too loose.
“She’s doing fine,” Michelle said, without looking up from her computer, but Curtis had to agree with Tanya. You did seem stiff. Uncomfortable. But he knew it had more to do with the current topic than any external factors. They’d dedicated an entire segment to the show you were on as a kid. It’s what made you famous. You never really talked about it. Didn’t seem to like to, but it almost always came up in interviews. Sometimes you laughed through it and it was fine, but other times it was more like what was happening now. He wouldn’t say that he knew or understood you, but he could read you and right now he could see, under your smiles and giggles that would fool anyone who didn’t spend their days watching you, that you were coming apart at the seams. He prepped a text to Jensen, telling him to pull the car around and saved it so all he’d have to do was hit send. Then he just waited for the interminable interview to end, clenching and unclenching his fists as he watched you put all your energy into just getting through it.
Finally the conversation wrapped up and the host threw to a commercial after announcing the next guest. Curtis sent the text, grabbed a bottle of water from the ice bucket, and was already almost through the door and into the hallway when Colin exclaimed, “What the fuck?! She was supposed to mention my tour!”
Curtis was sure there was some sort of reaction to that, but he wasn’t around to see it because you were already coming around the corner, being led by a PA. You locked eyes with him and as soon as you were close enough for him to hear, you whispered, “Get me the fuck out of here.” He nodded and herded you down the hall, around several corners, until you got to a little enclave under a set of stairs with several plush armchairs.
“Jensen’s bringing the car around,” he said gently, handing you the water bottle he’d been holding. “We can go out the back way. But I figured you might want a few minutes by yourself first.” You nodded absently, clutching the bottle of water in both hands. “I’ll leave you alone, but I’ll be just over there if–”
“Can you stay?” you interrupted, gazing up at him with pleading eyes.
Surprised, he asked, “You want me to?”
You nodded again and said softly, “Please.”
“Ok. Of course I’ll stay.”
You just stood there for a moment, gazing down the dark hallway in front of you before you finally said, “I don’t get why they always have to ask about it. It ended over ten years ago. Like, who fucking cares? And the show was shit anyway.”
Curtis just stood and watched you, not sure what you wanted him to say, if anything at all.
“Like, I was a kid. I wasn’t even any good, you know? I’m just so fucking tired of talking about it. I don’t know why anyone wants to talk about it. It’s not like I have any good stories. Nothing good happened.” You seemed to catch yourself there and cut a wary glance to Curtis then shook your head. “I told Tanya that I didn’t want to talk about it anymore. That I wouldn’t answer any more questions. And she said that was ‘unrealistic,’ so here we are.”
 Curtis let the silence carry for a moment, making sure you had nothing else to say, then, softly, "I'm really sorry you have to do that. That isn’t fair to you."
You looked up at him at that, something akin to shock on your face and you shook your head at him. “What? No. No, It’s fine. I’m– I’m being dumb. It’s not that big a deal. I’m just being ridiculous. Like always.”
He really hated it when you did that, wormed your way in and made him feel deep, unrelenting empathy for you. It’d been happening more and more often lately. He needed to get out. “I don’t think you’re being ridiculous.”
You just stared at him for several moments and for the first time in ages, he couldn’t read what was on your face. Finally, you shook yourself out of whatever had been happening and said, “We should really get going, shouldn’t we? Can we go? I’m just making everyone wait, like usual."
His hands itched to reach out to you, touch you, but you didn't need that right now. Maybe not ever. Not from him. So instead he nodded and said, "Yeah, we can go," letting Jensen and Michelle know you were on your way.
Tumblr media
"You're such a fucking asshole!" you yelled in the alley behind a club in West Hollywood, hours later. You were drunk. Very drunk. Curtis really hated this job.
"I didn't do anything!" Colin threw his arms up in exasperation.
"She was in your fucking lap!"
Curtis was standing by the door for now, hoping he wouldn't have to hold you back. Or, he thought, as he watched you sway dangerously, hold you up.
“She just sat down. What was I supposed to do? Push her off?”
“You certainly weren’t supposed to put your arms around her!” You were getting really worked up now and Curtis readied himself to intervene. Jensen was supposed to be bringing the car. Where the fuck was he?
“I was being nice to a fan!” Colin shouted when Curtis saw a light out of the corner of his eye at the mouth of the alley. When he turned to look, there was a man standing there with his phone out. Shit.
He walked along the wall of the building, trying not to draw attention to himself. Luckily you and Colin were providing plenty of distraction so he was able to get close and snatch the phone away before the man noticed him there.
“Hey!” he shouted. “That’s my personal property! You can’t do that.”
“Uh huh,” Curtis said as he stopped and permanently deleted the current video and went back into the man’s photos to check for anything else. There were two more videos and a smattering of pictures. He’d gotten the whole fight. You did not need that all over the internet tomorrow. He deleted it all and then handed the phone back to the man who’d been yelling and swearing the whole time. Curtis pulled himself up to his full height and loomed over him, then said, “I better not see you again. You have a good night.” He glared and waited for the man to back down and walk away then headed back to you. You and Colin were still screaming at each other, but the topic seemed to have shifted.
“You’re so fucking selfish, you know that?” Colin yelled at you. “I ask for one thing and you can’t even do that.”
“It was my job! I was there to promote my movie, not your failing tour!”
“You’re a fucking bitch,” Colin said, as Jensen finally pulled up in the SUV. Thank god, because every muscle in Curtis’s body wanted to lay the asshole out flat, and if he’d had to wait one more moment for the car, he might have.
“Hey!” Curtis yelled. “That’s enough!” he said to Colin and then turned to you. “Are you ok?” You nodded, but brushed a tear away. Fucking asshole. Keeping his eyes on you he asked, “We’re going now. Is he coming with us?”
“No!” you snarled. “Definitely not.” He nodded and opened the back door of the car.
“You’re just going to leave me here?” Colin pouted. “What the hell am I supposed to do?”
“I don’t care!” You yelled over your shoulder as you got in the car. “Get a goddamn Uber!”
Curtis was about to check in with you one more time, but you’d already slid to the other side of the car and were now staring out the window, so he shut the door and got into the front seat with Jensen.
Tumblr media
You were quiet on the hour long drive back to your house. Curtis looked back frequently to make sure you hadn’t passed out, but you were just staring out the window as the city zoomed by. He let you be while he conversed softly with Jensen about the rest of the night and the agenda for tomorrow.
When they got to your house and Curtis opened the car door for you, you looked up at him, surprised. “Hey,” he said quietly, “we’re here.”
You didn’t really respond, just kept looking at him for a few minutes. Then your gaze shifted to your back door and your lip quivered. “You’re coming in, right?”
He stifled a sigh. He was really hoping he’d be able to get away with just dropping you off tonight, maybe doing a quick walk-through to convince you all was well and then finally taking off. It’d been such a long day. But instead, he nodded. “Yeah, I’m coming in.”
Jensen poked his head out the driver’s side window as Curtis helped you out. “Do you want me to wait?” he asked.
Curtis shook his head. “No, it’s late. You go ahead and put the car away and take off. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Jensen nodded and gave him a quick wave.
Curtis guided you inside and turned on the lights. He checked your security panel to make sure everything was as it should be and then guided you to the kitchen. “You want something to eat?” he asked and you nodded. He wasn’t used to you being this quiet and it was throwing him off.
He went to the fridge and pulled out one of the dinners your housekeeper had left for you. He threw it in your microwave and then grabbed you a glass of water.
“I’m so tired,” you said.
“I know,” he said, “you can eat this and then go right to bed.”
“No,” you shook your head, “that’s not–” You frowned but didn’t say anything else, just placidly looked around yourself.
The microwave beeped and he took your food out, putting the dish and a fork in front of you.
Staring into your living room, you said, “I kind of hate this house.”
He had no idea what to say to that. He looked through your open plan first floor. Everything was gray and glass. Fresh flowers on multiple surfaces made it seem slightly less empty, but he’d always thought it felt cold. Cavernous. “You could move.”
You just hummed and turned to your food. You ate a few bites and drank some water. Just as he was gearing up to tell you goodnight and get out of there, you looked him dead in the eye and said “I think you might be the only person who actually cares what I want.”
The shock that flooded his system must have registered on his face, because you immediately started backpedaling. “Sorry. I’m sorry. I’m so out of it. Just ignore me. I’m fine. Just ignore me.” He whispered your name and you shook your head. “No, you’re right. I should go to bed. I’m sorry. Goodnight Curtis.” And with that you got up and went upstairs to your bedroom, leaving him dumbfounded, standing alone in the middle of your kitchen.
After a few minutes he pulled himself together, put your leftovers in the fridge and your glass in the dishwasher. He turned off all the lights and let himself out.
He paused on your step and leaned his head against your door.
He really fucking hated this job.
But he knew he’d never be able to quit.

Putting Roots In My Dreamland
Chapter Three of There’s Nothing Like This
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Jamie Tartt x fem!footballer!reader
Warnings: none :)
Word Count: 2.5k
Author’s Note: here’s the Jamie I promised :) another shoutout to @buckychristwrites for helping me out when my brain shuts down
Tumblr media
When you wake up on Sunday, body sore and head aching and mouth dry, you vow to never drink again. You wonder what had possessed you to make plans for today when you knew exactly what your night was going to be like as soon as your locker room celebration started. At some point, everyone had made their way from Nelson Road to a club, and it was all downhill from there.
Luckily for you, Jamie was in the same boat as you and was hopefully regretting his decisions just as much as you were. Though, knowing how unfair the world is, you’re sure he feels fresh as a daisy right now. He’s probably been up for hours and had time to make himself some sort of healthy, superfood smoothie before doing an intense workout followed by a shower with a complex hair and skincare routine, because he was insufferable like that.
You, meanwhile, were wondering how you’re able to stand on your own, let alone play a full football match. You’re reminded of the creeping end of your career, coming much faster than it should, so you throw yourself into the shower just so you have something else to think about. The warm water soothes your muscles and your overactive brain until you’re actually looking forward to spending the day with Jamie.
The shower takes longer than it typically would, mainly due to how long you just stand under the stream of water without doing anything, simply letting the water wash over your body as you psych yourself up for the day ahead of you. It wasn’t that Jamie made you nervous, but spending time with new people, getting to know new friends, was always a little nerve inducing for you. You and Jamie had only spoken a handful of times and never for any longer than five minutes, so the thought of spending a whole day with just him made your stomach flip.
After spending far too long in the shower, you check your phone to see a message from Mackie, along with plenty of pictures. You groan as you scroll through them, confronting your decisions from the night before. They aren’t bad pictures, and you’re surprised at how good of a photographer Mackie is even though she had just as much to drink as you did.
In all of them, you look exuberantly happy, your mouth wide open in a grin or mid-laugh with a drink in one hand and the other slung around the shoulder of a teammate or one of the boys. You’ve been happy, but it’s been a while since you’ve seen it, since you were able to look at your own face and see the joy so clearly written on it. Even just looking back makes you smile, until you get a text from Jamie and your stomach fills with nerves.
He’s sent you an address, asking if you want to meet at a coffee shop around noon so he can show you around Richmond, and you don’t even remember giving him your number.
Can’t wait! You reply, even though you’d love nothing more than to wait and spend the rest of your day lounging in front of your TV and eating nothing but comfort foods. Instead, you finish getting ready before standing in front of your closet and taking far too long to settle on an outfit. You know you’ve already met and that you’ve literally tackled the man, but you still want to make a good first impression outside of Nelson Road, outside of whatever you said or did last night.
All you hope is that you didn’t embarrass yourself too much.
You decide to walk to the cafe, knowing the fresh air will help you calm your nerves more than driving on the confusing London streets would. To your shock, Jamie is already sitting there when you arrive with fifteen minutes to spare. Even from a distance, you can see the way he alternates between checking the time on his phone and pushing his hair out of his face, the headband he wears at Nelson Road nowhere to be seen.
When he finally spots you coming towards him, he launches himself out of his chair and rushes forward to meet you halfway. He’s wearing dark colored pants and a nice button-up instead of the matching tracksuit you’d been expecting and looks nowhere near as hungover as you feel. He looks like he’s been up since the sunrise and went on a run just because he wanted to, and it makes you momentarily hate him just a little until he smiles at you and you’re reminded that he’s really just a boy who happens to be a professional footballer.
Pleasantries are exchanged as you both take a seat, and you can’t help the way your eyes drift from the menu in your hands to his face, the way he’s pouting slightly as he thinks and pushes his hair away from his face in what you assume is a nervous habit, something to keep his hands busy. It’s endearing in a way that makes you want to stand and run and never leave your house again.
After the two of you order, the conversation stills and the silence becomes awkward and you have no idea what to say. It’s not like you can ask him about himself, because your guilty pleasure is trashy tabloids and you’ve read more of his interviews with well-known papers than you’d like to admit. Jamie doesn’t seem all that eager to break the silence either and there’s been a furrow in his brow since you sat down, so you take it upon yourself to get the ball rolling.
“Thanks for offering to show me around, I really appreciate it,” you say, setting down your utensils as you finish eating, “I feel like I haven’t done anything except train since I got here.” And really, you weren’t wrong; you’d gone to the grocery store and stopped at a coffee shop with Mackie after practice one day, but other than that you haven’t been anywhere except Nelson Road and your house, and you’ve already been in Richmond for more than a month.
“Yeah,” he nods along as you speak before he adds, “I’ve been here a lot longer than you and I still don’t really know Richmond that well.” You can’t help the confusion that clouds your face as the man who offered to show you around Richmond admits that he doesn’t know the area and Jamie notices immediately so he scrambles to add, “I know a lot of places! Just not everywhere, but I’ve got my favorites.”
It’s becoming more and more difficult not to smile when you’re around him, there’s just something about him that makes you feel so open in a way you haven’t experienced since you met Mackie. He’s attentive, listening to everything you have to say with his full attention, nodding along as you answer questions about your favorite things and what you miss from back home and how you’re liking London so far.
It’s obvious that he genuinely cares about your answers, that he wants to hear what you have to say, and you can’t remember the last time anyone paid attention to you like that and it makes your skin prickle in a way that isn’t completely unpleasant.
The two of you start your tour around Richmond, questions and stories being volleyed back and forth as you walk along the streets. Jamie contributes to your conversation and he answers all your questions openly, but it’s clear that he’d rather have the focus be on you and the majority of his contributions are nods and “mhm”s thrown in when appropriate.
You can’t help but to wonder if this is how he acts with everybody or if it’s just because you’ve really only just met or if he’s regretting offering to show you around Richmond. You always make it a point not to talk about yourself, wanting to keep the focus on anything other than you and your life, and even though you’re not spilling out your deepest darkest secrets, you still feel exposed in ways you hadn’t expected.
“I love all the girls, and the coaches, and Keeley and Rebecca are great,” you say after Jamie asks how you’re liking Richmond so far. You know that’s probably not what he meant by that question but you can’t fathom opening up to him any other way, definitely not in the middle of a Sunday in a public park while you’re still a little hungover.
The last person you’d really, truly opened up to, shared all your deepest fears and hopes and dreams with was Mackie, and you’d been friends for almost five years now. The idea of exposing yourself, of someone truly getting to know you made your skin crawl, despite how much you’re coming to enjoy being around Jamie.
“Yeah, Keeley’s awesome, she’s one of me best mates,” he replies and you’re glad that the conversation has shifted away from you and onto someone you’d much rather talk about.
Jamie’s tour ends up being less like a tour and more like the two of you aimlessly walking around Richmond with him vaguely pointing out restaurants and shops that he likes, but you don’t mind at all. It’s much nicer than you’d expected just to talk with Jamie, and you find yourself looking forward to spending more time with him while also feeling terrified of seeming childish if you were to ask him to hang out again.
Despite your football playing strategies, you’d never been one to be exceptionally forward or confident in your personal life, so even just the idea of spending a day with Jamie seemed unbelievable. Although, he really was nothing like you’d expected.
The Jamie you were spending time with was considerate and a little awkward and told awful jokes that you couldn’t help but laugh at, and the more time you spent with him the more relaxed you became. By the time you find yourself in front of your house, you’re debating whether or not you should lie and say it isn’t your place just so you can keep walking, and you can spend a little more time talking with Jamie.
“This is me,” you say instead, throwing an arm backwards to point at your front door, “I had a really nice time today, thanks for showing me around.” You try not to smile too wide, try not to seem like a child who’s overly excited about making a new friend even though on the inside you’re practically jumping up and down.
Once you’d gotten past the fact that you were talking with the Jamie Tartt, football star, you were really just overjoyed at the idea of finally having a friend that wasn’t just a teammate, someone who you’d need to see outside of training and who’d drag you out of your house to experience life.
“Yeah, of course,” Jamie responds, his hands hovering out in front of him before he settles them into his pockets, “we’ll have to do something again sometime.”
You can’t help but to smile at Jamie and how uncharacteristically shy he seems, but when he notices you smiling, he beams back at you. You say your goodbyes before heading inside, internally debating whether or not you should have asked if he wanted to come in.
——
As Jamie watches your front door close, he takes his first deep breath of the day. It seemed like he was held together by nothing but nerves all morning, and now that he’s heading home he can finally relax. He’d been so worried about saying something dumb that he’d barely talked, choosing instead to ask you question after question to keep the conversation on any topic except himself.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to share with you, because he really did, he just couldn’t risk ruining what was shaping up to be a comfortable friendship with his own insecurities and fears. And, he could listen to you talk for hours and hours no matter what you were saying. You could read him the dictionary and he’d sit with rapt attention the entire time, overjoyed just to be near you.
He’d been worried he’d come off too strong and scare you away, but it seemed as if you enjoyed yourself as much as he did. He can’t help the little bubble of pride that fills his chest over the idea that you enjoyed a day he’d planned, enjoyed spending time with him enough to say you wanted to meet again soon.
You'd been so different from how you were at the Dog Track, than how you are on the pitch, but Jamie doesn’t mind at all. He wants to learn everything about you, all your quirks and fears and everything you love.
Being around you feels like being punched in the chest, and Jamie can’t remember ever feeling this way about anyone, not when he met Roy Kent for the first time or when he told Keeley he loved her, but he doesn’t mind. It’s a new feeling, and it scares him a little, but it’s not a bad feeling at all. It’s like he can’t breathe around you, but he’d rather struggle for breath than never see you again.
Ever since that moment when your eyes locked your first day at Nelson Road, Jamie hasn’t been able to stop thinking about you. He remembers checking Instagram every morning and night until Keeley posted the women’s team roster and then he spent hours scrolling through your page.
At first, he’d felt like a creep, like he was intruding on something private even though your page was public and you’re a professional athlete. He was careful not to like any of your old photos, careful not to do anything that would send you a notification that he was spending hours scrolling down your profile.
There were photos of you and Mackie and the rest of the US Women’s Team, there were professional photos of you at events or at photo shoots for brand deals, there were action shots of you on the pitch, but his favorite photos were the ones you’d taken yourself, selfies and group photos and pictures of your travels.
If anyone was around, Jamie would have been beyond embarrassed when he realized he was smiling as he scrolled through your photos, taking in those little aspects of you that he hadn’t gotten the chance to experience yet in your minimal contact with each other. Even more embarrassing to him was the fact that he didn’t follow you for another week, needing time to work up the nerve as if it was outlandish that he’d follow you on your public account, as if all the other players on his team weren’t already following you.
He just loved getting to see the world, see Richmond and Nelson Road from your eyes.
There’s something about you that makes him want to learn everything about you, that makes him want to spend every moment of his free time with you, that makes him want to fall asleep and wake up next to you. He’s not sure what it is yet, but he knows some of his teammates are starting to pick up on it, Sam even going so far as to call him out on his starry-eyed staring.
All he hopes is that you don’t pick up on it.

After reading the recent chapter of Him & I, the image of teen Nico and the others trying to adjust to life in NJ has me in a chokehold lol
May I request for any shenanigans our boys may have gotten into during their first few months in the states? 👀
Stop I love this request! Just a bunch of silly teen boys in a new country together haha
Thanks so much requesting! Let me know if you want some more funny moments between the guys
~~~~
“Nico, I love you man but when am I gonna get my own bed?”
Timo is sprawled out across the queen size bed, McDonald’s fries and a burger resting in his lap. It’s been his obsession food for the last month they’ve been in Jersey and Nico is patently waiting for the day it all makes him sick.
“I’m trying Timo,” he huffs, looking up from the hoard of emails he’s been sifting through. His first order of business when he got to Jersey was finding something in the area to invest in. That something was a beloved bar in the area that had been shut down a few years ago and now he’s trying to build it all back up. “A few more weeks and I’ll look for somewhere new, ok?”
The apartment is nice, not a penthouse but large and luxurious. Enough to keep them all comfortable until he can afford an equally nice place for everyone. Technically leased under Nico’s name, it’s his permanent home now. And the home of the friends he brought with him. Three bedrooms in all, but Jesper and Jonas brought their girls with them, and Nico felt it was best they got rooms for themselves. Leaving him and Timo to double-up unless someone wanted the couch.
“Not that I don’t like the bonding,” Timo laughs, shoveling fries into his mouth. “I just didn’t realize how much of a cuddler you are.”
“Shut up!” Nico grumbles, cheeks heating up. He’s not that much of a cuddler, it just happens. It doesn’t help that Timo is such a bed hog either. What else is he supposed to do when his friend is rolling onto his side of the bed?
Timo snickers, hitting play on the next episode of Friends. Nico goes back to work, approving orders and installs for the bar so that it’ll be ready to open by the end of the month. Eventually the loud, smacking footfall of Jonas float in and the elder Swiss boy’s head is poking into the master bedroom.
“What are you watching?” He ask innocently, and Timo pats the bed next to him. That’s all the invitation Jonas needs before he’s crashing into the mattress, settling against the headboard and stealing some chicken nuggets from Timo.
“Ladies at work tonight?” Timo asks him, and he nods. Nola and Nicole had both gotten work together at a fancy clothing store a few streets down. The pay isn’t great, but they’re able to save up and support themselves with Nico taking care of housing and food for everyone. And once the bar is up and running, him and the boys will have more work to do.
Jonas pulls out his phone, sending a text that’s barely buzzed in the group chat before Jesper is running into the room as well. He shoves Nico’s beanie down over his eyes, leaping onto the bed with the other boys.
Nico yanks the hat off, tossing it towards the closet and refocusing. He doesn’t even get five minutes of work done before Jesper is calling for him.
“What?”
“Come on boss,” he teases “working too hard. Join us in bed.”
Nico rolls his eyes, fighting back a smile. “You’re not my type.”
“Which one of us?”
“All of you.” Nico deadpans, looking up over his screen to find them all staring at him with puppy dog eyes.
“You love friends, come watch.” Jonas tells him. “I’ll let you sit next to Timo so you can snuggle?”
They all bust out laughing and it’s enough to get Nico to close his laptop. Rising from the desk, he pads over to the bed and knees his way up between Jonas and Timo.
He settles into the pillows, crossing his arms over his chest. Timo and Jonas are warm on either side of him, everyone’s biceps pressed tight against each other as they squish together.
Sometimes when Nico’s here, just him and his friends from home without thinking of everything he has to do, everything that comes with being the boss, he remembers his age. Still freshly 18 with too much money in his bank account and a responsibility to take care of the five other people he’s drug into this with him.
It makes him feel small. In a safe way though, because he’s got the people that believe in him and have his back. He’s got the Devs with him.
Maybe Jesper is right, maybe he is working too hard to make this work because he wakes up in the morning to a photo of him sleeping on Timo’s shoulder, a an arm and leg thrown over his best friends body.
After a mission gone wrong and a cruel twist of fate the team starts digging for answers. Can tony keep them from finding out the truth?
A/n Whats this a series??? Insane right??? Also this is my longest posted fic yet :)
PART 1 || PART 2 || PART 3 || PART 4 || PART 5 || PART 6 || PART 7
“Uncle Tony do we have to do this? I mean I’m not even that special.” You grumbled from the backseat.
“Yeah sure L/n because everyone can shapeshift and teleport”
“Yeah but that doesn’t mean I can fight.” You shot back
“You can turn into a literal bear if you want of we both know you can fight. With the right training.” He rolled his eyes.
“Are you sure. I mean I can take myself back right now.”
“No we’re five minutes away now just sit tight and look out the window or something.”
“Whatever” you grumbled pulling out your phone and mindlessly scrolling through instagram. After what felt more like five seconds happy pulled up and stopped the car opening the door for tony as you opened your own door and got out muttering something about being too rich for door handles. You stretched and popped your back making tony wince at the sound he hated.
“Let’s go glow stick enough trying to light up by breaking your back. I’ll take you to your room before I have you meet the team.” You dragged your feet as you followed him into the foyer of the avengers tower and watched as he pressed the button for the right floor.
“You Wanda and Natasha will be sharing a floor.”
“That’s the black widow and scarlet witch right?” You asked not being one to follow the news much.
“Yep. The redheads.” He winked knowing you were gay. You hid a blush and shoved him.
“Shut up uncle tones” you grinned. The lift pinged and tony began walking you down the hall. “This rooms Natasha this one’s Wanda’s” he said gesturing loosely at the closed doors. “And this one’s yours. I trust you can-“
“Get my own bags? sure pops.” You winked and with a small pop you vanished. Tony groaned hating when you did that.
He slumped slightly in the hall. “Jarvis please keep me updated on her position in the tower and alert me if she goes anywhere near the lab.” He grumbled. Nat’s door opened and she poked her head out frowning at tony.
“Tony what are you doing? Who are you talking to?”
“I was- never-mind I’ll explain at the meeting.” He said waving a hand and going back to the lift. Nat shrugged retreating back into her room.
With a pop you arrived back at the car and opened the boot pulling out your backpack and two suitcases before holding them all and teleporting you and your things back to your new room.
With a sigh you began unpacking knowing no matter how much you may avoid to you had to go back across the country to get the rest of your things. You stood, taking a deep breath and preparing for the long jump before disappearing with a pop.
Your head spun as you reappeared in your bedroom back home, hundred of miles away from the tower. You stumbled grabbing your box of art supplies you didn’t want to risk damaging on the long car trip. Sucking in another deep breath you teleported back. The dizziness was much worse now. Two big jumps without rest in close succession wasn’t good for you. Before you could fall over you set down the box on the floor and passed out onto the bed with a loud crash.
A few moments later Natasha entered the room looking at your unconscious form and bags around the room and frowning.
“What the hell” she muttered “Jarvis?”
“Yes Ms Romanoff.”
“Who is this?”
” Ms Y/n l/n is the niece of Tony stark.”
“Alright and what is she doing here?”
“Ms l/n’s uses to the avengers will be great thanks to her-“
“alright Jarvis that’s enough” tony said walking in the door after receiving an alert that his niece had passed out.
“Yes yes she’s my niece.”
“Tony she can’t-“
“Can’t be here. Sure she can, she’s here isn’t she? Pass me that backpack Romanoff”
He said gesturing to your small backpack by the desk. Natasha frowned and picked it up shoving it into Tony’s chest.
“Less attitude Romanoff” he grumbled.
“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes. “What did Jarvis mean she has great value to the avengers?”
“Ask her yourself” he said pulling a small vile and a pack of gum from the front pocket. He broke the vial open and waved it under your nose. Your eyes screwed shut.
“Tony what the hell is going on?” Nat asked
You screwed up your face. “Tony” you whined “why couldn’t you let me sleep it off like normal” you whined eyes still shut.
“Sleep what off tony? what’s going on?” nat asked again.
Tony pulled a strip of gum from the pack and unwrapped it shoving it in your mouth.
“Chew. And I woke you up because you can’t meet the team if you’re unconscious idiot” he grumbled.
“Whatever. And those are for emergencies only.”
“Whatever i live with you now I’ll just make you more. Or make Bruce make you more.” He grumbled.
You cracked an eye open finally noticing nat who was stood watching unamused.
“Oh hi.” You said
“Hi?” Nat said sounding unsure.
“I’ll leave you two to it then.” Tony said winking at you and leaving before you could protest.
“Let’s try that again shall we?” You said standing up and brushing invisible dust from your clothes and extending a hand. “Pleasure to meet you, I’m Y/n, Y/n L/n” you said. Nat took your hand raising an eyebrow at your last name being different to Stark’s.
“Natasha but you can call me Nat.” She said her grip was firm and you could feel the callus’s of long days spent training on her palms.
“Well not the best first impression.” You chuckled putting the vile and pack of gum back into your backpack.
“What is that stuff?” Nat said raising a brow.
“Oh uncle tony makes it. Its energy gum a special type he made for me so i can recharge the battery after long jumps.” You said and Nat had about a thousand more questions.
“Long jumps?” She asked.
“Oh he didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?”
“This.” You said disappearing with a pop and appearing behind her tapping her shoulder. Nat spun around.
“Super speed?” She asked.
“Nope.” You said popping the p. “Teleportation. And..” nat blinked and suddenly a bunny was sat by her feet.
“Shapeshifitng?” She said sounding impressed. With a pop you stood before her again.
“Yep” you smiled.
“Alright ill admit that’s pretty cool.”
“Yeah. Well I’m sure you have important things to do before the meeting this afternoon. Tony wants to introduce me to the team and i need to unpack.” You said wiping your hands on your paint stained jeans one of your nervous habits.
“Yeah. Well I’ll see you around L/n” she smiled and patted your shoulder before leaving and closing the door softly.
The day went quickly as you unpacked. The meeting was smooth with the team impressed and curious about your powers. You must have answered a hundred questions before tony stepped in. You shifted to about six different animals and teleported to get them all ice-cream from downtown as proof and just like that they all loved you. Apparently ice cream was a weak point for the group of earths mightiest hero’s. After the meeting was over you couldn’t help the fact your eyes lingered after the goddess you had come to know as Wanda. She was just so perfect. Her hips swished slightly as she walked away and you had to stop yourself from drooling. A crush was forming just like that. But you knew you had to pace yourself. You had plenty of people end things with you for being “too much” and you didn’t want another heartbreak.
As you walked back to your room you smiled to yourself. You grabbed your backpack and sketchbook and walked down to the grounds. Picking a tree and sitting under it. You opened your back and buried your nose in your sketchbook. So for the next few hours you sat trying to capture every last detail your brain could remember about Wanda’s face. After a few hours you had a beautiful drawing of the redhead and you smiled shutting. Putting on the finishing details you were so wrapped up in it you didn’t hear the footsteps approach until the person spoke to you.
“I was wondering where you had run off to.” Nat said sitting beside you. You quickly slammed the book shut but not before nat saw the picture. She grinned and raised a brow.
“Your an amazing artist.” She said and you flushed.
“Please don’t tell anyone.” You said.
“What that your a good artist?” She said grinning coyly
“No. About the drawing. You weren’t suppose to see that.” You said still bright red you slipped the sketchbook back into your backpack.
“My lips are sealed.” She said. “But before i say anything else. She single.” Nat winked before getting up and turning to leave.
“Nat?” You said and she turned around again.
“Yes?”
“Did you come to tell me something or just tease me?”
“Oh lunch is ready Wanda made a bit of a fancy meal for your arrival. Something tells me she likes you.” Nat winked and started to walk off. You hid your face in your hands. Grabbing your backpack before teleporting back to your room and dropping your bag on the bed before teleporting to the hall by the kitchen and strolling in.
“Something smells good.” You said and Wanda looked up and smiled.
“I just sent nat to get you.” She smiled. And you grinned as Nat walked in.
“Looks who’s here.” Wanda said pointing the spatula at you and smiling. Nat frowned at your cheeky grin.
“Must be a sixth sense” you said and winked at nat.
“Or you just teleported.” Tony said walking in and Wanda burst out laughing.
“Your no fun tones.” You fake glared at him.
“Bite me bear.” He said. Using your playful nickname for you. He loved bears and you often turned into one for him when he was drunk and sad so it became a name for you. Of course nobody would ever know that the great tony stark was cheered up by riding a big fluffy brown bear around his backyard in his late twenties. He couldn’t count the number of times he fell asleep running his hands through the fur of a sleeping bear cub in his lap. You brought him a comfort only family did. One he had failed to receive for years after his parent, your grandparents died. One you had also lost when your mother and father died also.
Wandas calls for lunch broke you from your thoughts as the boys all tumbled into the kitchen. You were introduce to the two girls you hadn’t seen before. Just getting back from their mission you learnt the blonde was Yelena, Natasha’s sister and Kate was Clint’s protege. You sat down feeling that maybe your family had grown a bit bigger. And maybe this wouldn’t be so bad after all.
“Just a reminder your party is tonight to welcome you to the avengers.” Tony said slapping your back as he walked past to get his morning coffee.
“I heard the great tony Stark’s parties aren’t the same as they used to be. Hope I’m not disappointed.” You grinned taking another swig of your coffee.
Tony grumbled something about being domestic and you chuckled before going to your room to get ready for training.
It was about five when you finally decided on an outfit. The party starts at 7 so you had plenty of time. You had decided on a small sleek black dress that hugged all the right places. Sure you would have preferred a suit but you didn’t feel much like making a stir at your first party. After laying out the outfit you yawned not used to being awake so early in the mornings. Deciding you could take a quick nap you curled up and shut your eyes.
Incessant knocking woke you up with a start.
“Y/N the party started twenty minutes ago get your butt downstairs. Come on your making me look bad” Tony yelled with an almost whine in his voice and you jumped up. Fixing your hair into a fancy up-do and throwing on the dress and some makeup.
As you stepped into the room you realised it was one of Tony’s more calm parties. The avengers were sat around a table drinking and you grabbed yourself a martini before going to sit beside Natasha.
“Your going soft tones.” You grinned and he shot you a glare.
“Am not.”
“Its alright i kinda like domestic you.” You took a long swig from your drink feeling the alcohol go straight to your head.
“So y/n why do you call tony tones?” Wanda asked and you grinned lopsidedly as tony groaned knowing what was to come.
“Well witchy.” You grinned as you watched Wanda fight down a blush. “When my parents so kindly died.” Maybe the alcohol was doing a bit more than you thought. You missed the look of shock on the avengers faces as you continued. “Mr stark here.” You gestured loosely to him “adopted me. I was about sixteen and tones being the fun uncle let me go to his parties. When i was seventeen we were all hanging out, me and Tony’s street scum friends were drinking.”
“You let her drink at 17!!” Nat yelled and you shrugged.
“No point being rich if you don’t break a few laws I guess.” You grinned as tony covered his face with his fingers. “Tonys parties were a lot more wild back then and we had a little family legend me and the street scum.” You said affectionately. “They were my family. Anyways the legend was that if you got tony drunk enough his tone deafness goes away and his awful catawalling turns into the most angelic singing ever. So one night we tested it out and secured some strong liquor. I wont say if it was true or not but tony woke up in Mississippi with a hangover and no clothes.” You grinned and the avengers all started laughing.
“And where did you wake up y/n?” Nat said narrowing her eyes jokingly.
you blushed “w-well thats not important.” Tony seeing his chance to get back at you took it with a grin. “She woke up in Massachusetts with a hangover and a piercing.” You groaned.
“Where?” Wanda asked her curiosity peaking.
“Right here.” You said tapping the helix piercing you always loved but never had the confidence to get without the help of alcohol. “And before tony can convince you otherwise i alway wanted one so its not like i woke up with a piercing elsewhere.” You said pointing tony a sharp look. Tony choked on his drink. “Alright” tony said clapping his hands “change of subject.” And you burst out laughing knowing his piercing was rather … intimate.
“Oh i have plenty more stories of party animal tones over there.” You said tilting your drink in his direction “but I’m not nearly drunk enough yet for that.” You grinned taking a long sip.
“And you wont be tonight.” Nat said taking your drink from you carefully and setting it on the table “this isn’t that kind of party.” She smiled seeing you frown.
“Boring.” You yawned and slumped down the couch.
“So how did you get your powers if you don’t mind me asking?” Clint said eyeing your reaction closely.
“Oh you know, the usual.” You waved your hand dismissively dodging the question and changing topics. Nat and Clint exchanged looks not missing the way your shoulders hand tensed at the topic. Tony shot Clint a dark look telling him to drop it.
The night went well as you and the avengers chatted and shared stories. Nat was careful not to let you drink too much to keep you from embarrassing yourself on your first night. Taking it off you ever twenty minutes for a break. You let her for the most part. After about three hours the team was getting tired and you were mildly drunk despite Nat’s best efforts.
“Come on hot stuff i think its time i take you to bed.” Nat said playfully and your eyes widened. “Not like that.” She scoffed slapping your arm lightly.
“Goodnight everyone I’m taking this one to bed now.” Nat said jabbing a thumb at you and helping you to your feet as you swayed. Nat grumbled not ready for you to get a head injury walking back to your room she scooped you up with little effort. You squeaked slightly and threw you arms around her neck as she carried you bridal style into the elevator. Nat helped you back to your room handing you some of you pyjamas she found in a drawer she smiled at the matching snoopy pj shirt and fluffy pants. Handing them to you she turned her back as you changed. After the shuffling stopped she asked if you were done turning to find your shirt on backwards and a dopy grin on your face. Nat sighed. Turning your T-shirt around by guiding your arms back inside before helping you into bed. You looked adorable in your pjs and she helped take out your hair pins and used a wipe to clean off your makeup. After you were ready she placed a motherly kiss on your forehead and tucked you in. She sat with you until your soft snores filled the room and before she slipped out she put a bottle of pain meds and a glass of water on your bedside. She padded quietly down the hall to her room and slipped out of her fancy clothes changing quickly before getting into her own bed.
You were a puzzle, one she was determined to figure out. When she had heard you had lost your parents she felt almost a primal protection spark in her heart for you. It was almost maternal in nature as despite being almost 22 nat wanted nothing more than to mother you like a child. And it scared her. Yet she couldn’t seem to resist the urge to care for you. She thought you were sweet and she wanted to protect you.
Wanda however had different feelings. Since she had first laid eyes on you she was wrapped around your finger. You were perfect in her eyes. And the night of the party she was awake until the early hours thinking of every moment in great depth all over from the way the dress held you tight in all the right places to the way your grin became lopsided when you drank. All down to how nat had left with you in her arms and a feeling of jealousy sparked in her heart. She knew she had nothing to worry about. Nat was like a mother to all the younger avengers. Peter, Yelena and Kate were basically babied by her all the time. And she saw the love in her eyes for you the moment she met you. She knew you held a special place in Nat’s heart already but she couldn’t help but feel it should have been her who helped you to bed and cared for you. But she didn’t want to scare you away. She couldn’t live with herself if she blew her chance before it really even began.
Patchwork and Platforms | Simon 'Ghost' Riley X Medic!Reader {Chapter 1, Page 1}
Current|Page 2|Page 3|Page 3.5|Page 4|Page 5
Summery: Ghost, ever vigilant, is caught off guard by the reality of who the 141's new medic is outside of work.
Warnings: fem!reader, goth!reader, canon injuries, swearing, needles, stitches, use of she/her/her's, reader call sign is Stitch/Stitches
A/N: this is my first story on here, and my first in awhile, so I apologise if I'm rusty 😅 I had this (very self indulgent) idea awhile ago, decided it was time to make it a reality, enjoy!
Tumblr media
It had been a long one, but the mission was finally over. However, Ghost, along with a few others, had managed to get injured somewhere along the way.
As the chopper touched down back at base, Ghost half stepped, half fell, out of the door onto the tarmack, steadying himself before, slowly but surely, limping his way to the infirmary. He'd never been one to let someone else take care of him, but something about the experience was easier when it was her.
Stitches. A rather short medic, though who isn't compared to him? Her eyes sparkled as she looks up at him, wearing her usual lab coat and long scrub pants, smiling sweetly at the much larger man in her doorway. Her smile quickly fades to an upset pout as she noticed his leg, bloodstained pants covering what she ssumes are bullet holes.
As she rises from her desk, she gives a small huff, gently leading Ghost to the table before grabbing the necessary tools; scissors, a needle, sucher, gauze, disinfectant, and cotton swabs. Making her way back over to his side, looking up at him before she spoke.
"I need to see your leg, can I cut this?" She asks with a velvet voice, gently moving the fabric of his pants when he nods, she began delicately snipping the fabric to make the wounds visible. A short sigh leaves her lips at the sight of two holes, one in the lower thigh, the other in the middle.
"This is gonna sting." She warns, gently soaking the cotton swabs in disinfectant. "Ready?" Her soft eyes met his, Ghost giving a short nod, followed by a soft wince as the disinfectant starts to do it's job. Gently wiping the blood away and disinfecting the wounds, she grabs the needle to start stitching him up.
"What'd I do withou' ya'?" Ghost chuckles softly, watching her steady hands effortlessly stitch his leg closed. She smiles softly, her eyes not leaving her task as she replies.
"You'd all be long gone without me," she giggles, snipping the end of the sucher twine and placing them to the side. "Especially you and Soap" she teases, gently sticking the gauze over the stitches before wrapping his leg in a bandage.
"Suppose you can't leave us then" Ghost replies, looking at his leg before sitting up slowly, watching her take off her gloves and throw them in the bin.
"You lot wouldn't last five minutes if I left" she teased, giggling as she turns back to looks at him "so I guess not" she smiles up at him as he stands up "good as new" she gestures to his leg.
Ghost chuckles low in his chest, barely more than a rumble like stones in a cave. "Thanks Stitch" he says before starting to walk away, something telling him to pause and turn around. He takes a moment to compose himself before he speaks again. "Hey Stitches?"
Hearing his voice again, she turns back to him from her desk, a soft, confused, mildly concerned look on her face "yes, Ghost?" She asks, her voice sweet as honey.
His breath hitches in his throat at her saying his name. He forces a deep breath. "I was wondering if you'd wan' ta' come out with Johnny an' I. We're going to a pub 'e found in town and won't shut up abou'" he tries to sound calm, but there's a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Much to his surprise, he watches the corners of her mouth quirk up into a soft, sweet smile "what's the dress code?" She asks with a hint of amusement at his nervousness.
Ghost can't help but blink in surprise 'i didn't think that'd work' realising that he's staring, he clears his throat in an attempt to compose himself. "Uh.. well, just.. whatever you'd usually wear out with friends?" He asks more than says it, feeling the heat build behind his mask.
"sure, I'll meet you there then?" She smiles at him, as if oblivious to his nervousness. He was a bit thankful for it, but also somewhat disappointed, though he wasn't sure why.
Tumblr media
Ghost is slumped in a booth, sitting beside Soap, who's in the middle of the curved seat. Intently listening to soaps rambles, he scans the room.
Minutes pass by, Soap continuing to drone on as ghost slowly lost track of what he was saying as he keeps an eye out for her, waiting for her small figure to come into view.
After about an hour, he's looking between his glass and Soap, given up on her coming when Soap shoves his elbow. Ghost shoots him a glare before realising Soap is staring at something, or rather, someone. Turning his head to follow Soap's gaze, his own landing on her. No longer the soft, cute medic he'd come to know.
Before him, making her way to the table, he can't help but take in every detail. The black, platform boots that make her almost his height, the ripped skinny jeans, the cropped hoodie that meets the hem of her jeans with chains resting over her hip. Her lips stained black with lipstick, the sharp cateye eyeliner, paired dark red eyeshadow. It was like a dream striding toward him.
His eyes continue to linger as she smiles at the two men, taking a seat in the booth, across the table from Ghost. He only realises he's been staring when Soap kicks his shin, greeting her and striking up a conversation as she flags down the bartender to order.
After a few minutes, Soap announces he needs to use the bathroom, fumbling as he climbs out of the booth, trotting off to the bathroom in the corner. Ghost stares down at his glass before his breath hitches at the sound of her voice.
"you just gonna stare at me all night, or are you gonna say somethin'?" She asks, sipping her drink as she eyes him, watching his reaction. He takes a deep breath, lifting his eyes to meet hers. He swallows the lump in his throat, toying with his glass as he speaks.
"jus' wasn't expectin' ya' to look like... This" he gestures to her, feeling his chest ache as he watches her smile twist into a frown
"you don't like it?" She pouts slightly, he quickly shakes his head, waving a hand in defence. "No no, I do, I just.. wasn't what I expected is all." He mumbles, his voice low as his eyes drop back to his glass, drinking the rest and flagging the bartender for another.
"well?"
"well what?"
"do you like it?" She asks, her voice filled with curiosity and something else Ghost can't quite pinpoint. He gazed back up at her, meeting her questioning eyes as he takes a moment.
"I do."
"really?"
"yes." He says bluntly, nodding to the bartender as he's given another glass, before looking back at her "I just expected something... Softer." He states simply, sipping his drink.
"why, cause I'm a medic?"
"no, just seemed like you'd rather something like that. But I ain't complainin'" he chuckles, low, almost inaudible amongst the noise of the pub, especially when Soap makes his way back to the table, yelling something, but it only fell on deaf ears as Ghost watched her, examining every detail of her face the way it is, noting the way her nose scrunches as Soap makes her laugh, the small crease on her cheekbone that come out when she smiles.
Tumblr media
Hours, many drinks, and laughter pass before the three decide it's time to head back to base.
Ghost has Soap's arm draped over his shoulder, carrying him as he stumbles, slurring his words as he looks up at the larger man "you teh' best LT!" he grins before hiccuping and almost falling if it weren't for Ghost's hold on him.
Soft thuds follow along beside Ghost, keeping an eye on Soap as she keeps up with Ghost's walking pace. She shakes her head and giggles as Soap professes how much he appreciates the two as they walk back onto base, ghost quickly taking Soap to his room, leaving Stitches to wonder back to her own.
After about an hour however, Stitch hears a solid, but soft, knock on her door. She paused in confusion before walking over to the door, as she opens it, she's met with the chest of Ghost, who she looks up at and smiles.
Ghost pauses, taking in her smile, examining her now plain face and clothes. 'she looks a lot more comfortable' he thinks to himself before speaking. "I uh.. I jus' wanted to tell ya, I.. thought you looked really good. Earlier. I mean, not that you don't now, I just-" his nervous rambles are interrupted by her sweet giggle.
He looks down at her, the tension in his shoulders easing as she smiles at him. "Thank you, Ghost." He paused for a moment before replying. "My names Simon."
"Thank you, Simon." She says softly, soon closing the door once again. Ghost stands there for a moment, smiling softly to himself as he makes his way back to his room.
Metanoia
Simon’s eyes crinkled in defeat. It was a double-edged sword no matter what he said.
“You shouldn’t be out anywhere right now, you realize that?” He remained stiff as if that was going to stop you.
Weeks before, it was him shutting you down; stunning you into silence. The tables turned on that dynamic at about the fourth day—the fourth day of hunkering down in his disarranged apartment. Sure, the place was nice, the couch was cushy, and the view of the stars was quite literally out of this world.
However, the honeymoon phase of limited amenities had faded away, and you were on the verge of ending up in a padded room with a lifetime ticket clenched in your fist.
“Simon, if I don’t see some sunshine, I’m going to strangle you myself.” The sarcastic, jovial grin on your face remained, even after threatening to squeeze the life out of him.
And not to mention, that goddamn tea; seemingly the only beverage he had to drink aside from dodgy tap water. Every morning you’d sit there, sipping on it like you weren’t on the brink of throwing it all out. All while you do it, he’s drinking his own, letting out a ‘hmm’ like it’s the best thing he’s ever tasted.
“Sunshine?” He asks rhetorically, eyes now squinting. “Go to the roof, wave your arms around, and absorb it. There’s your sunshine.”
Next thing you know, one of the pencils from his workspace is hurling toward his face. If you can’t get your enrichment time outside, you might as well find it in the little things.
His hand is out in record time, catching the pencil before it touches him. His head cocked downward slightly as if completely bored by your ‘efforts’ already. He tosses the pencil back onto the table, watching as it comes to a stop when it collides with your mug.
The rest of your face remained stoic, except for your lips, which have pursed into a displeased arch.
“Fucking hell…” he repines, this time under his breath.
The usual glare he gives in an attempt to end the argument has fallen void against your stubbornness, causing his posture to drop in defeat.
“One hour, and not a minute more.”
For the first time in weeks, you can finally stretch your limbs. Being planted in front of a television is enjoyable until the couch starts to memorize the shape of your hips—then it becomes downright depressing.
You’re pulling at the grass and rubbing the strands between your fingers, savoring the feeling of Earth below you, rather than a foam cushion. This was all you wanted and more. To enjoy the last few sunny days of autumn, before the entire city is covered in blankets of snow.
“You’ve got thirteen minutes left.” He’s either been looking at the ticking watch on his wrist, or around at the surroundings for threats. It’s no wonder he’s so miserable in the heat; he’s in his typical sauna of a black bomber jacket.
You reach for your bag and pull out a few bills, starting toward the vending machines. “Do you want something?”
Simon waves his hand, nearly rolling his eyes. Inside he’s probably cursing himself for saying an hour, instead of thirty minutes. But if he’s anything, he’s a man of his word.
When you return, you slide a can of soda across the top of the bench regardless. The can is swallowed by his large fist and stuffed into one of his bottomless pockets. He’d rather die than let you watch him enjoy the soda he refused.
You, on the other hand, feel like you’re drinking a delicacy; it’s practically by the time the one you bought him reaches his fist. Miles better than hard tap water, or the goddamn tea he buys.
Considering how far you’d wandered from the lot when you arrived, you take him standing as your cue to trek across the park. Instead of staying a few feet behind this time, Simon walks side by side, nearly causing you to walk halfway in the grass. He has no perception of how large he truly is or just doesn’t care to—either way is plausible to you.
Although his instincts told him not to let you come out here, deep inside he was savoring any moment he was not dodging a bullet, or reaching for his pistol.
Once you’ve reached the lot again, you’re peeking at his watch when it comes into view, watching as each second ticks away. He’s holding open the passenger door, leaning his hip against it in impatience.
“I still have two minutes of air.”
This time, the look in his eyes actually causes you to drop any further argument about to come out. Once he’s climbed inside the driver’s seat again, he makes a show of locking the doors right away.
Click.
He shifts the truck into drive, looking down at the gas icon, which is nearing empty. He grumbles something under his breath as if threatening the truck like a hostage who he’s finally fed up with. Simon pulls around and finds the nearest gas station, pulling up to the pump closest to the entrance.
You reach over to the buttons on your side, unlocking the doors when he parks. You’re determined to savor those two minutes you were denied.
He keeps his eyes on you as he begins pumping the gas, watching as you lean against the bed of the truck, nose in the air to spite him.
Once he returns the nozzle to the pump, he shuts the gas cap. “Stay by the truck.”
He’s gone inside to pay, and you’re relishing in the breeze blowing on you. Half of it is annoying him with punctuality, and the other is genuinely minding the freedom. You’re shielding the top of your field of vision as you peer up at the cerulean sky, for a few seconds forgetting about the horror show this endeavor has been.
The crinkle of a paper bag rips the tranquility out of your hands, snapping your vision to the man in front of you. He’s digging through the paper bag, unkempt brows tightened. Your posture straightens, and your hand is already on the revolver tucked in your waistband.
Although, it’s not a gun you’re greeted with, nor a weapon at all for that matter. It’s a box—a small, nicely embellished gift box—now outstretched to you.
“What is it?” You question, hand still resting on the grip of the pistol. His expression is as unsure as yours as if he isn’t privy to the details either.
As soon as you’ve gripped the box with your other hand, the man tosses the bag aside and begins walking back in the direction he came.
Simon noticed the man approach as he was collecting his change. His reflexes allowed him to tuck his wallet away, all while watching the encounter without breaking his glare. He takes the side route, going through the aisles so the clerk doesn’t notice how he’s reaching for his iron.
You’re holding the gift box, and the stranger has walked around the building, now out of Simon’s sight. Every bit of this put a sour taste in his mouth. More so the man he could no longer see, than the gift you were holding.
You’d thrown the box on the floor, scrambling back into the passenger seat. Your face had lost its blood flow from the shock of the gift’s contents, while Simon’s was turning red in agitation.
Instead of stuffed into a trunk, or spurting blood from a bullet wound, it's still you standing there; unscathed, confused, and peeling the lid off the arcane gift box.
Gold tissue paper to match the outside, paired with small sapphire confetti blowing away with the axis of the wind. You took one last look around the side of the building, where the man was still nowhere to be seen, then pulled back the paper.
You felt like you were going to squeeze the life out of the cardboard box at the sight of it. Your fingers felt clammy, and the tremble you’d finally gotten over had returned. It was the ring—the one you’d left behind several towns ago, hundreds of miles ago, and most of all the one you had to fight so hard to finally rid yourself of.
But yet there it was, glimmering in all its glory, tinkering from the sun rays just as it did during the outdoor reception Cal insisted on.
You shook your head visibly as if to physically rid your body of the vivid memories coming back to you, causing the box to tumble to the cement below you. Any semblance of survival instinct you had moments ago—the compulsion to search for any threats, had fizzled away the second you laid eyes on the salient diamond.
You climbed back inside the truck and locked the doors, finding the burner phone in your pocket. Simon had disappeared from the spot in front of the cashier counter, nowhere to be found. The jitter caused a few typos in your text, but you sent it in nonetheless. Your head hit the headrest behind you, as you were now white-knuckling your revolver, searching for any sign of a tail in the neighboring vehicles.
One thing was clear now—you were being surveillance again and probably watched the entirety of your hiding at Simon’s apartment. Cal had stepped up his game.
It was no longer gunmen, nor a petty attempt to corner you at the courthouse—it was mind games. The last play he had, was a futile attempt to break you without breaking the skin.
You could lie to yourself, and hide behind Simon, but once he was inside your head, he was winning the game.
His phone chimed in his pocket—the ringtone he’d picked for your SOS messages only. He wasn’t going to check it and be sure; he was going to find the bastard that brought the gift to you and get his answers. That was the only thing he was sure of right now.
He concealed the hold he had on his pistol with the flap of his jacket, exiting the gas station the way he came in. Simon snuck around his truck first, stuffing the ring into his pocket once he spotted it. Then, kept moving to meet the man around the other side.
Simon noticed the man within seconds; the back profile of him as he made his attempt at stealth. Skittish feet wearing sneakers a few sizes too big, stumbling as he looked over his shoulder constantly.
His hand clamped around the shoulder of the stranger, forcing him to whip around. Simon gave no attempt at a greeting, nor any negotiation. Simon pistol-whipped the captive with only a sliver of his strength, as to stun him, not crack his skull open—yet.
He merely dragged the man into the bathroom of the gas station—the only single stall left unoccupied. A grimy box with a toilet and sink, clearly accumulating the filth from years of no maintenance. To Simon, it was a perfect room for ‘conversation’ with the man—any knocks given, or screams of agony would be drowned out by the constant passing of eighteen-wheelers.
Simon shoved the meek captive against the door once he’d slammed it shut, gripping him by the t-shirt swallowing his wimpish body. He was much younger; youthful clothes, a dingy appearance, and widened eyes spilling over with alarm.
Not a plea in the book could phase Simon, or make him loosen his grip. Whether he was given specifics or not, he gave you something that unnerved you, he put you in harm’s way, even if only mentally.
“Who gave the order?” He spat, only giving the man mere seconds to reply. His mouth quivered, left agape like he was still too disoriented from the blow.
There was no time for negotiations, waiting, or pandering. That got him nowhere before.
Simon held onto the collar of his shirt and plummeted his head into the edge of the sink, each throw given with pure brute force. The impact echoed off the walls of the room—the deep thunk of a metal sink against a brittle skull. His brutish grip was the only sense of balance to the man, now sputtering as the crimson dripped from the exposed flesh on his forehead, all the way down to his neckline.
Patience was wavering as was the man’s ability to enunciate a single word. “Who…” Simon began, blinking away the splatter that found its way to his lashes, “...gave the order?” His tone was more of an inhumane growl.
“No idea,” the stranger’s eyes began to waver shut, as the blood trickling began to stain the whites of his eyes, “—just the money and a picture of her, I swear—”
Simon's umbrage only worsened at the sight of his cluelessness. He gave a few blows, each one causing a more audible snap; one on the cheekbone, then the jaw, and a final one on the bridge of his nose.
He released the now-soaked fabric, letting the man slump to the ground. His face was now nothing but a repulsive bundle of blood and bone. Simon looked down at his knuckles; spots where abrasions had swelled when the man’s bone sliced him, as well as the familiar, chronic stinging of a hairline fracture from his metacarpals down to the heel of his hand.
Rage didn’t blind him, nor did it control—he was solemnly aware of the carnage caused by his own fist. He was the one propelling each knock, every squeeze of the trigger, every trained maneuver.
The man was somehow still conscious after the beating, but unstirring as he croaked pleas for someone, anyone to find him. Simon tossed the ring into his lap, figuring that would be a sufficient message toward Cal—the crook he hired beaten to a pulp, while still clutching the item he failed to deliver.
It seemed like an eternity, how long Simon had disappeared into the back somewhere. And yet, no suspicious cars, no eyes watching you—no one to be suspicious of. The scene around you remained the same; a bustling gas station.
Each time you looked in the rearview mirror, you could see the crumpled box still laying on the pavement where you left it. The holographic diamond would bounce off the shine of a passing car, sometimes projecting the hue of it onto the mirror, like some sick hypnosis to further remind you of the past you thought was left behind.
When he returned, his shoulders were hunched forward in discomfort as he massaged his right fist. You could spot the stains on the pale skin of his eyes, as well as the ones seeping into the fabric of his mask.
You remained as still as the captive, refusing to look at his bloodied fists. He’d just tortured a man for you. Simon wasn’t going to patronize you, nor was he going to bother to hide the taints of what he did.
This was his job; his disquieting, gruesome job—one he carried out with regrettable necessity.
Simon went through his pockets, finding the cold soda you’d bought him, holding it against the bruising skin for a few minutes, until the flesh was iced enough to drive the next several hours.
“We’ll need to keep moving. Today.” You were already familiar with the routine; settle somewhere, bloodbath, keep moving. It was second nature by now. His words were just an attempt to cover a pained groan as his throbbing fingers wrapped around the steering wheel.
Straight out of a storybook, that’s how you’d describe the new hiding place.
A spacey cabin somewhere in the mountains, supposedly used by his old Task Force as a hideout at one point. Although, it was less military, and more like an abandoned ski lodge. Rather than the concern of not enough space, it was how much there was—especially when surrounded by acres of seclusion.
The wind got colder, more bitter with each passing day. The only saving grace was the books you’d already read over a few times since leaving home. The amusement would fade soon enough, just like it did when you were cooped up in Simon’s apartment for weeks on end. It was only a matter of time before another ambush, or another problem costing one, or both of you your lives. Cat and Mouse was a game that didn’t go very long; someone always gets caught—always.
Conversations remained cold and simple; a storm rolling in that night, if there was any hot water left, how long the latest ration run would last.
You’d lost sight of the end goal of this fighting.
The night you patched Simon’s wounds, it began to chip away at you slowly. Next, when he showed you that picture of him, there went another piece of your willingness. Then, the first time you began to put things behind you, it ended in more violence—and now you’re here—hiding in the middle of nowhere again, more desolate than any evening with Cal.
Simon is perched on one of the barstools, cleaning his personal arsenal of weapons. Something he seems to do daily now. His right hand is still bandaged—sloppily to put it lightly, since he insisted on doing it himself.
“How’s the hand?” You asked, not caring too much about the answer, you were just out of options. Talking to the wind only kept you entertained for so long, not to mention the bitterness of it whipping your skin the longer you stood out there.
“Fine.” His eyes only flick up once, then they return to the rag in his hands, scrubbing non-existent grime off his pistol. Truth is, he’d rather talk about anything but the hand, or anything to do with that day.
Your eyes carried down his long sleeves to the bandage again, picturing the bruising and gashes underneath, then the face of the man that caused it. “If that man looked like me,” you began, “would you have done that?”
His sore fingers came to a stop mid-scrub, something they’d been begging for him to do all afternoon. “I needed answers, don’t treat me like a barbarian.”
His deflection from the point was an answer in itself—an answer that made your hairs stand.
“Did you get what you needed?” You twisted the knife further, nearly mocking him by now, pressing a palm onto the countertop for support.
Simon could conceal his feelings all he wanted, but his microexpressions played out the story for you. He looked down at his hand again, probably thinking of the meaningless beating he’d given. It did little to nothing to protect you, that was unmistakable.
“I did what I had to do,” he declared, “you of all people should understand that.” Weeks before, those words might’ve eased the conflict brewing inside you. Today, it only added to it.
“Do you really believe that, Simon?” It was blatantly clear he didn’t. He was still stopped in his tracks, attempting to hide the gears turning in his head.
The pistol clattered onto the counter. He’d stopped his chore entirely. “If you’ve got something to say, you should say it.” His eyes roamed up and down again, searching for any semblance of hesitation showing.
The bullets, the stabbing, the bloodshed—the violence caused to stop the violence. How did this make any sense? At first, you believed you fit into this twisted puzzle somewhere, that the jagged edges would find their place and somehow the kinks would work themselves out.
“What the hell is the point of all this? Are we really any better than him?” You finally replied, looking at the fruitless landscape painted out the window.
“If you have to ask that question, you’re already better than him.” You were. Not him. This, he was used to, hell, meant for. But for you, there was still expectancy. That’s truly what Simon believed.
If it weren’t for the guilt swallowing you, you might’ve scoffed at his patronizing.
“I’m not so sure I believe that anymore, Simon.”
Jack was throwing this extravagant New Years Party at his home in Louisville tonight. It was going to be this lavish Gatsby themed affair with you starring as Daisy Buchanan. He’d been looking forward to tonight for a while and of course had spent the last few weeks planning out every single detail.
You just wanted to get to the champagne and the sultry dance you had planned for him at the end of the night with “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey playing in the background. You stood in your closet contemplating which shoes to wear playing with the new ring on your finger while Jack was in the shower.
Ever since you’d gotten engaged it had become your new coping mechanism, the shiny rock on your left hand still took a little time getting used to. But it also symbolized the next chapter of your life. This party Jack had planned would also serve as an engagement announcement so there were some nerves, but mostly just excitement.
You settled on a pair of shiny gold block heels and headed into the bathroom, taking off your clothes and stepping in through the glass doors already beginning to disappear in the steam.
His back was turned to you until he heard you shut the door behind yourself. “Baby, what the hell are you doing in here?” You laughed, looking him up and down before responding. “You always say that we should be more environmentally conscious. So I’m taking your advice and showering with you so we can save water. What’s the problem with that?” You ask innocently, flashing him your sweetest smile.
“I know what you’re doing and we do not have time for that right now. Urb is gonna be here in 20 minutes.” I only need about ten to get what I want, you think to yourself. “I am not doing anything, Jackman. We both need to shower before people start showing up so…hand me my soap. Please.” He handed you the bottle and you began to rub the soap all over your body, making sure that your hands lingered on your breasts and you could’ve sworn you heard his breath hitch.
“Do you need me to wash your back?” Jack asks after clearing his throat.
You nod, handing him the bottle. The water was a comfortable temperature, but his hands on your skin made you feel like you were on fire. While you rinsed off, you turned around and enveloped him with a kiss and he grabbed your wrists, guiding you against the shower wall, deepening the embrace.
Your lips fit together like puzzle pieces, hums and moans of desire painted the room until he abruptly pulled away, cupping your face in his large hands. “Now you know sneaking in here like this would usually get you punished,” he smiles, “but I’m feeling generous today so I’ll try to be gentle.” He turned on the side shower heads without stepping away from you, just so you could feel his erection growing in real time.
Taking one of the shower heads off, he turns down the water pressure and places it in between your legs, the water sending rippling vibrations between your folds. You threw your head back with a moan and you grabbed his shoulder to steady yourself. He continued to tease, letting you know he was going to finish what you started.
The sounds you were making were embarrassing but you had no control over your own body at this point, it all belonged to Jack and when he slowly sank into you, all you could do was clench around him.
You almost cried when he pulled out, holding his dick in his hands. And you knew exactly why he was doing it. “Jack, baby I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made a show earlier with the soap. I thought you needed a little motivation but I was wrong. Very wrong, so please. Please just—” All of the air in your lungs left your body at his sudden thrust back into you, gripping your hips as he pushed in and out of you with ease. He lifted one of your legs and held it at his hip, the new position hitting a spot that he knew would send you into a new stratosphere.
“So…fucking…sensitive.” He grunted, as your hold on him tightened. Both of you knew there would be marks in the morning.
Jack continued to fuck you through two orgasms until you saw stars and needed him to carry you out of the shower. Maybe you wouldn’t have enough energy for that sultry dance tonight after all.
It Wasnt in my Head (2)
(a/n: ok chapter 2 time. ty for the love on chapter 1!! fyi.. reader is definitely based off me, so if you don't like her pls be nice about it! pls tell me if u see any typos. ♡︎)
Summary: Abby is the starting linebacker at UW and when her team starts to falter her coach decides to get the team into ballet, in order to teach them that grace and stability is important in football too. Abby is just as upset about her teammates about this, until she sees her pretty new ballet teacher...
dancer!reader x football!abby
!!ABBY IS STRAIGHT IN THE BEGINNING. READER IS HER GAY AWAKENING!!
I always knew I was meant to dance.
Ever since I first walked into a dance studio I knew it was just where I was supposed to be. My "calling" or whatever.
I walked into the familiar building with the familiar smell of rosin and wood flooding through my nostrils. I set down my ballet bag and began stretching, still in my sweatshirt and sweatpants.
It had been a week since Coach Vonn asked me to help with his teams little "issue" and the first day was finally here.
Its safe to say I'm absolutely fucking terrified.
I mean I know most girls hate the idea of being locked in a small studio with large groups of men, but as a lesbian?? Way way fucking worse.
As I was stretching I heard the door shut a good few times signaling that said men were coming in, but I chose to ignore it for the five minutes before the class actually started since I was sweating like a pig. Unfortunately that five minutes seemed to pass in seconds and it was time for me to get started.
I finally walked over to stand in front of a large group of men all staring at me. Waiting.
"Alright, I guess it's time to get started," I announced, pulling the quiet conversations in the room to a halt. "Ok we can just-"
The door slammed open interrupting me with a bang, I turned to yell at the person interrupting my class when I felt my breathing stop.
The person who opened the door stood now inside the studio, out of breath from rushing in. She was tall, taller than some of the other men on the team, with the most stunning honey blonde hair rolling down her back in a simple braid. She had a broad nose, yet softer eyes.
And to top it all off she was fucking MASSIVE.
And she was so fucking pretty.
"I'm so so sorry I'm late there was a train and then I couldn't find parking," The woman said in a voice as soft as silk.
I snapped out of my daze to answer the blonde in front of me,
"Oh, you're fine! We were just getting started," I told her, struggling to find my words.
She stalled for a minute looking in my direction for a little longer, but eventually looked away and nodded her head up at a few of her teammates in greeting.
"Uhmmm, ok! As I was saying, we can just get started with an introduction. My name Y/n L/n and I'm a junior here at WU. I was asked by Coach Vonn to teach you guys some ballet basics, in hopes of improving your muscle control, stamina, balance and, like, a ton of other things, um, we can just get started off with some stretching, which I know you all already know how to do that," I began, hoping to sound as put together and professional as possible.
Everyone began to stretch as I watched and observed them all.
Well, watched and observed the blonde who burst in earlier.
She had taken off her sweatshirt, so her deliciously large arms were now on full display, flexing with every movement. And her hands, god her hands, they were large too. The tendons that sat atop, her hands moved just as much as the muscles on her arms did.
I finally decided to tear my eyes away after realizing that I was staring for a creepily long amount of time.
"Ok, everyone lets start by learning our positions," I announced to the room.
The rest of the lesson went as they always do, and at the end I got a few thank yous, and everyone left.
˖⁺‧₊˚ ♡ ˚₊‧⁺˖
My front door made the same usual clanking noise as it unlocked, before I threw it opened and walked in, taking off my shoes at the door.
"Hey bitch!" A voice hollered from the kitchen.
Heyyy D!" I called back walking into the room.
Dina was seriously my favorite person. I had met her last year when I saw an ad on craigslist that said she was looking for a roommate. Hindsight says that using a craigslist ad to find a roommate was probably not a very good idea, but it worked out in the end.
"Were going to a motherfuckin party tonight!" She exclaimed, eating her microwave nachos.
"Aw, D, come on you know I hate parties," I reminded her as I grabbed my own plate and the bag of tortilla chips to start a dinner of my own.
"Y/nnnn I really really wanna get out and do something! I've been doing classes and sitting at home all. day." She groaned.
Her and Jesse must have gotten into another fight.
"Uhhhhmmmmmmnnuuugghhh yesokfine," I answered Dina, as she gave me her best puppy dog eyes. "I guess I deserve a night off too,"
"Hell yeah you do! Ok eat quick because we leave at 10,"
I glanced to the bright red numbers on the oven that read 8:45 and ate my now ready nachos slightly quicker.
I walked into my room and to my dresser and decided on a super basic party outfit: a mini dress.
My hair looked fine down, so I left it as I touched up my makeup from the day.
"Oh by the way, Ellie is coming and she says her friend is gonna meet us there," Dina told me after bursting into my room unannounced.
I smiled at that. I loved Ellie. She was a lot like me in many ways, and she was the one who helped me realize I was into girls.
She was also Dina's best friend so I kind of had to like her.
Around thirty minutes later Dina and I heard honking outside n signaling to us that Ellie had arrived to get us.
We both locked up, walked down the many stairs of our apartment complex, and piled into Ellie's car.
"Hey Els!" I said, sliding into the backseat.
"Hey sweet thing, how've you been?" She asked, eyeing me in her rearview mirror.
"Oh y'know, busy. Get this, I have to teach the football team how to do ballet, per their coaches request. Can you believe that shit? Its like watching a bunch of babies take their first steps," I answered her with my regular joking tone.
She snorted before following it with: "Jesus, looks like you need tonight more than Dina does,"
"Tell me about it,"
We pulled up to the house after another 5 minutes or so full of conversation.
And of fucking course.
Greek letters were proudly hung on the front of said house.\
"Dina, really? I didn't know this was a fucking frat," I told my friend, annoyance lacing my voice.
"Well I knew if I told you, you wouldn't have come," She turned around and looked at me while Ellie parked.
"Ok yeah I guess that's fair," I grumbled from the backseat.
I hate frats. Too many annoying misogynists who think they have a chance.
We got out of the car and approached the entrance where loud music was heard from a few feet away.
Here we fucking go.
Dear Jack (Series)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jack Brewer x Reader
Summary: Y/N is a student at the Bobby Wasabi Dojo. Their life changes when Jack Brewer shows up in their life.
Word Count: 2.9k
Warnings: Cussing, nothing else really, I kind of alternate between they and she pronouns.
Chapter One: Wasabi Warriors
Y/N was sat with Milton, Jerry, and Eddie eating lunch.
“Hey, Mil, can you help me with this?” Y/N asked sliding their algebra over to him, “I’m having issues with number five.”
Milton glanced over it, “Quadratic formula.”
Y/N nodded, “Thanks.”
They grabbed a fry off their tray and popped it into their mouth. Jerry looked over Milton’s shoulder.
“Aye yo, look at that new guy.” He said, pointing behind Milton
I looked where he indicated. A pretty boy was standing with his tray, looking around the cafeteria absently.
“You’re drooling.” Eddie commented as he ate
“I am not.” Y/N retaliated
The boys all tried to hide their laughs.
“Mhmm.” Milton hummed, he turned to the new guy
“Hey, new kid!” Eddie called to him
The boy smiled as he walked to the table.
“Hi, I’m Jack.” He introduced
“I’m Milton, that’s Jerry,”
Eddie cut him off, “I’m Eddie, and that’s Y/N.”
Y/N gave a slight wave, “Hey.”
Jack sat down with them, “So, how do you all know each other?”
“We all do karate together.” Milton replied
Before Jack could reply, Milton and Y/N were both hit with falafel’s.
Y/N scrunched their nose in disgust, “Not again.”
Jerry was hit, “Not cool man.”
Y/N rolled her eyes and stood up. Jack eyed her for a moment.
“Frank!” Y/N snapped as she walked to the Black Dragons
“Hey!” Jack interuppted, he slung his arm around Y/N, “I like your outfits, are you guys cheerleaders?”
“No! Well, Bryan used to be.” Frank replied, Y/N hated his stupid voice, “So, you got a problem or something?”
Frank went all out demonstrating his karate.
Jack’s eyebrows rose, “ Look, I didn’t come over here to fight man.”
Jack was about to pull Y/N back to the table when Frank moved to punch him. He caught Frank’s fist and pushed Y/N behind him. She rolled her eyes at that.
“You probably shouldn’t have done that.” Jack smirked before flipping Frank
The rest of the dragons got up to fight. Bryan ran at Y/N followed closely by Tyler. She jumped and grabbed his shoulders before swinging around him and kicking Tyler across the room. Jack was doing pretty well himself.
Bryan dropped Y/N and went to punch her, she swung her leg and took him to the ground. They gave Jerry a look and he tossed them his pudding. She smashed it onto Bryan’s face. Only two of the dragons were left in a position to be fighting, and Jack took care of them fairly quickly.
Once Frank had run out, Jack looked around and saw the damage he’d done. He looked at Y/N with a sheepish grin before booking it out of the cafeteria.
After school Y/N was at the dojo with the boys. Eddie got absolutely wrecked by Marge.
Y/N laughed hard, “Wipeout, buddy.”
“Eddie got dusted by Marge the lunch lady again!” Jerry chortled
Rudy was preceded by two guys in business suits. None of them looked very happy.
“Guys, what are you doing?” Rudy demanded, “They said if we don’t win two belts at our next tournament they’re shutting us down!”
“You wanna win some belts just make Y/N do everything.” Eddie groaned from the floor
“Or get that new kid Jack in here.” Jerry added
“Yeah, he took out four Black Dragons at lunch.” Y/N quipped
“You took down two of them.” Milton corrected
Y/N shrugged and grabbed another slice of pizza. Rudy shook his head.
“I don’t care about some cat fight at school.” He insisted, “This dojo is built on the foundation of hard work and discipline. Let’s get to work.”
The boys took their seats and Y/N sat with them. She was close to the decorative wall because she wanted to have everyone sitting on the mat, but there wasn’t enough space.
After a couple of minutes Y/N heard yelling that sounded like it was coming from behind her. She stood and looked at the wall for a moment before the wall burst open, she let out a scream, then she was on the floor.
“That boy just came right out the wall!” Marge yelled
Y/N’s ears were ringing and she let out a groan.
“Okay, you guys have got to try that.” Came a new and vaguely familiar voice
There was a bit of shouting, a ‘sorry’ , and then Milton and Rudy were standing over her.
“Holy christmasnuts, are you okay?” Milton asked
Y/N nodded, “I think so.”
Rudy grabbed Y/N’s hand and pulled them to their feet, “Let’s get you sat down.”
He walked them to the waiting area. She looked and saw Jack being held by two security guards.
“Hey, Jack.” Y/N greeted
“Hey Y/N.” Jack replied with a wink
Jerry came up behind Y/N and patted her shoulder, “You coming over for dinner again tonight?”
Y/N nodded, “Yeah, your mom is making arepas, right?”
He nodded, “Come on, let’s get going.”
Jerry leaned over and let Y/N wrap their arm around his neck and he aided them in their walk out of the dojo.
At Jerry’s he sat them down on the couch and rifled through his DVD’s.
“What do you want to watch, hermana?” He asked
“I don’t care, you pick.” Y/N replied
She was distracted, thinking about Jack. He really seemed like the perfect guy. Cute, good hair, nice, confident, willing to stand up for others, and not to mention his insane martial arts talent. Y/N wasn’t even aware they had spaced out, but Jerry was. He saw the soft smile land on their face as their eyes seemed to see something other than his living room. The way that Y/N’s eyes crinkled as they thought.
“You still with me?” Jerry asked
Y/N shook their head, “Yeah, yeah, sorry.”
“Whatcha thinking about?”
He went to the kitchen and brought out the steaming arepas as he listened to Y/N talk.
“Just about Jack, honestly.”Y/N replied, “He’s just... super cool, I guess. I don’t know. I just think it’s nice that he stood up for us when Frank was messing with us, and he’s talented.”
Jerry handed her an arepa, “And cute?”
“Yeah,” She said absently, “Wait, no!”
“Oh, you do think he’s cute!” Jerry laughed
Y/N pouted and Jerry ruffled their hair.
“No worries, your secret is safe with me!” Jerry assured
The next day Y/N was back to normal, if not a little sore. She opted to not get food with the boys and instead went straight to the dojo. Rudy came out of his office.
“Hey, Rudy!” Y/N greeted
“Hey, where are the boys?” He replied
“Falafel Phil’s, they’ll be here in a bit.”
Y/N dragged one of the practice dummies out of the corner and started working on her form. It wasn’t long until Jerry, Milton, and Eddie came in.
“Where’s Jack?” Y/N asked as she hit the dummy particularly hard
“With Kim Crawford.” Milton said as Y/N went in for another punch
She knocked it over with the force, “What?”
Jerry smirked, “Oooh, you’re jealous!”
“I am not!” Y/N insisted, “Jerry, come here, hold up the dummy. I need to hit something.”
He picked up the dummy and held it securely as Y/N unleashed an assault upon it. Hit after hit after hit landed, each one harder than the last. Until Y/N knocked over the dummy and Jerry.
“Sorry.” She panted, helping him off the ground
Rudy was smiling at her, “That’s the kind of energy we need for the tournament, Y/N! Good work!”
As he said that, Jack came in spinning a new bow staff with a stupid cute grin on his face.
“Sorry I’m late-” Jack started
Rudy rounded on him and cut him off, “Sorry doesn’t cut it, Jack! Where did you get that astronaut bowstaff?”
“It was a gift from the Black Dragons!” Jack smiled, “See! We can all use it!”
He tried to hand it to Y/N who turned her back on him and retreated toward Jerry. Jack’s smile dropped.
“What? Students here are forbidden from even entering that dojo!” Rudy replied to Jack
Jack scoffed, “You can’t forbid me from doing anything!”
Y/N rolled her eyes, and Jerry wrapped an arm around her shoulder. They both watched the interaction, Milton and Eddie quickly crossing to them.
“Hey, if it wasn’t for me you would’ve been banned from the mall for two weeks!” Rudy insisted
A silence fell over the room. Jack looked livid.
“Banned from the mall?” Jack demanded, “You told me I was going to jail!”
Rudy’s mouth opened and closed like a fish for a moment.
He sputtered a bit, “Wha- Well, I say a lot of things! I’m what they like to call chatty!”
Jack stormed toward Rudy, “You lied to me! You broke the Wasabi Code! You know what? Kim was right! This place is a joke! I quit!”
Jack marched out of the dojo. Leaving everyone speechless. Then Rudy jumped into action.
He ran toward the door, “Fine! Go!”
Then Rudy turned to the kids, “Who needs him?”
Y/N rolled her eyes and everyone stared at him.
Then all in unison said, “We do!”
Rudy’s eyes widened as he ran back to the door, “Wait! Come back!”
After that they all left. Y/N was walking to their bike on the bike rack when she passed the Black Dragon dojo. Kim was walking out and smiled when she saw Y/N.
“Hey! How was your day?” Kim asked
“Just swell.” Y/N snapped, “Nothing like hearing that your friend called your dojo a joke.”
Kim’s face fell, “Y/N I’m sorry. But sensei really wants Jack at our dojo-”
“Go away, Kim.” Y/N sighed
The day after that they all resigned to the fact that Bobby Wasabi was going to close. So they all started packing, Y/N was set on rolling up the mats.
“Jack! You’re back!” Rudy burst
Y/N looked at him and gave him a small wave.
“I’m just here to get my stuff,” He specified, “What are you guys doing?”
“Packing up.” Y/N chimed
“Yeah, we’re closing. No Jack, no belts, no dojo.” Jerry finished
Y/N taped up the mat where it was rolled and started to tip it up but it was a bit too heavy, so Jack came over and helped her. He sent her a wink as he did so.
“Milton David Krupnick!”
Y/N turned around, Milton’s dad was storming through the doors. She sighed, of course he hadn’t known Milton was doing karate.
“So this is your french horn lesson?” His dad snapped
“I’m sorry dad, I started doing karate so that I could defend myself when people made fun of me for taking french horn lessons.” Milton explained, “It doesn’t matter anyway, it’s shutting down. This was the one place I really felt like I belong.”
Eddie nodded, “Yeah, now my mom is going to send me back to Mrs.King’s Dance Academy! My body was not made to mambo!”
“Yeah, guess I’m a lone wolf again! That’s how I like it!” Jerry sniffled, “Don’t think for a moment I’m going to miss any of you meatbags!”
“Guess it’s back to eating lunch with Henrietta.” Y/N sighed, the boys looked at her weird, “My paper mache crab I made for my Earth Science class.”
Milton’s dad motioned for him, “Let’s go, Milton. You’re lucky you didn’t hurt yourself.”
Jack was gazing around at his friends. And then he ran toward Milton.
“Wait, Milton!” Jack hollered, “Why don’t you show your dad how you can break this board?”
Milton gave him a look, “Break a board? Jack, I can barely cut a well cooked piece of fish.”
Jack pulled him up to a board he set on two moving boxes, “Just do it.”
“Jack-” Milton protested
“Do it!” Jack yelled
In a panic Milton slammed his hand into the board and split it in half. Milton’s dad was impressed, and honestly so was everyone else.
“Milton that was incredible!” His dad praised, then he left
Rudy warily walked to Jack, “These are your friends, Jack. They didn’t break the Wasabi Code. I did.”
They all gathered around them, hopeful glints in each of their eyes. They didn’t want to give this up yet.
“What do you say?” Rudy asked, then put his fist to his palm, “Wasabi?”
Y/N copied Rudy, which prompted the boys to do so too. Jack smiled and copied all of them.
“Wasabi.” He affirmed
They all got to work. Jack came to help Y/N put the mats back where they went. He looked at her fondly as they worked.
“You’re staring,” Y/N commented as they rolled the mat out
Jack blushed, “Uhm, thank you. For, kind of making me not quit the dojo.”
She shook her head with a small smile, “Keep rolling.”
They all worked hard to get their belts. Hoping to get two, maybe three.
When the tournament came, Y/N was undeniably nervous. But she came out with her boys in her gi. Flexing their muscles and making a big show of still being there to fight to stay open. They took their seats on the bench.
“Okay, Eddie’s up first.” Jack said
We all looked at Eddie, he was knelt on the mat praying. Jack ran to him and said something, before seeing Eddie’s opponent.
“What do they feed you, brother?” Jack spluttered
He went back to talking to Eddie before returning to the bench with the rest of the team. Once the match started it was over quickly. Eddie flipped and pinned his opponent easily, surprising all of us.
“We got our first belt!” Rudy cheered
“Okay, Jerry, nunchucks is next. All you gotta do is-” Jack began
“Relax, Jack. I got this.” Jerry cut him off and stepped to the mat
His opponent did some fancy moves and Jerry nodded.
“Oh yeah? Well check this out.” Jerry smirked
It started well, and it gave Y/N a little hope. But before that hope could grow too much Jerry hit himself in the balls and fell to the ground. Y/N was beside him in a moment.
“Jerry, are you okay?” She asked
“Everything is purple.” He groaned
Y/N hauled him to his feet and took him back to the bench. Her match was next so she stepped to the mat. Tyler was the guy she was against. He was huge in comparison to her.
Jack stepped up next to her, “Hey, you’ve got this. I believe in you.”
He grabbed her hand and gave it a quick squeeze before going back to the team. Y/N took a deep breath and then the match started. With a running start Y/N jumped and landed with her thighs around his neck, which surprised him. She put her weight backward and flipped him over as they both landed on the ground, and kept him pinned until the ref pulled her off.
“Second belt, boys!” Y/N cheered as she went to the bench
Jack enveloped her in a tight hug, “I’m so proud of you!”
They sat as Milton went up for his event. He was against Frank for board breaking.
Frank broke the one board he was given.
“Double it.” Milton told the ref
“Ooh! My boy is going for the win!” Jack cheered, being a general dork
Y/N chuckled, “You look so stupid.”
“What, you don’t like this?” Jack asked as he deepened the dumb lunge he was in
Milton won while they weren’t paying attention.  Jack and Y/N cheered as he went around and gloated to the Black Dragons. The red took his belt for his bad sportsmanship.
Rudy scolded, “Milton! That was our ticket to staying open! What were you thinking?”
“That this is the best day of my life?” Milton sighed happily
The vertical peg kick was next, Jack’s event. He stood and went to the mat. He shot Y/N a wink. She gave him a little air kiss as a joke. Jack went around the mat and Frank attacked, taking him down by his leg.
Y/N ran to him quickly, “Jack! Are you okay?”
The rest of the boys were close behind her. She knelt beside him.
“I can’t move.” Jack groaned
Rudy panicked, “Yes you can! Don’t you quit on me!”
“Rudy!” Jack snapped, “You’re kneeling on my leg.”
Rudy stood, “Oh.”
Y/N pulled him up and held his shoulders.
“Are you going to be able to compete?” Jerry asked
Jack shrugged, “I don’t know.”
“You’ve got this, I believe in you!” Y/N encouraged
Rudy ushered the boys away leaving Jack and Y/N alone.
“You gonna be okay?” Y/N asked
He nodded, “Yeah, I’ve got this.”
“Good, now go kick the Dragons butts.”
She kissed his cheek and ran back to the bench. Jerry wrapped his arm around her and smiled.
“Don’t think I didn’t see that.” He teased
Y/N shook him off, “You didn’t see anything.”
Milton tapped Y/N as Jack moved to take his spot. He flipped into a hand stand and it occurred to all of them how he was going to do this.
“He’s launching from his hands.” Rudy said incredulously
They all watched as time seemed to slow down, Jack did his gymnastics and knocked the peg off. Y/N stood up and cheered quickly. Followed by the rest of the team.
“We did it! We get to stay open!” Rudy exclaimed
“And we got three belts so we outdid it!” Jerry added
“You guys feeling what I’m feeling?” Rudy asked
They all nodded before doing their high kick.
“Wasabi!”
