Kokichi's backstory
These are all headcanons honestly but i wanted to put things together
Tumblr media
Kokichi was a shy and timid, small child. He never had the advantage of height and was always deemed shorter than his peers. Due to those factors, he gained many bullies at the school he went to. Not only was his body more petite in comparison to everyone else's, but kokochi also lacked the confidence and social skills to tell anyone, making him the prime target.
Yet at home, Kokochi knew how to act perfectly fine. He put on a mask of happiness and childishness at home, and knew how to control himself and his expressions.
Kokichi had always lied about everything at school being well. His parents favored his older brother very much, from the way he had amazing grades, to the way his appearance was careful manners torwards everyone. His parents held many expectations of his brother, and needless to say, the two siblings were nothing alike. Bad grades, a sloppy appearance, kokichi was the opposite of his brother.
His brother was the perfect child. Kokichi was the dissapointment.
Yet kokichi hand never minded that fact, because despite everything, he and his brother's relationship had remained close, and he held a deep admiration for his older sibling. He didn't want to cause anyone troubke by mentioning the bullying at school, so he lied about his bullies to everyone.
His brother was always studying for his grades at home whenever he could, sometimes under the order of his parents. Yet not once had kokichi seen his brother unhappy about his situation, or show any signs of disobedience torwards his parents. His mannerism alwys remained completely composed. He had little free time, but kokichi always treasured every last moment they spent together while his brother was free. He could act as himself with his brother, and they knew each other the best.
Sometimes when having nightmares, he would sneak in his brother's room and snuggle with him under his blanket. His brother locked the room, knowing kokichi had the ability to pick locks. Both of them never told their parents about their midnight talks. His brother was one of his only sources of comfort.
In his scarce free time, kokichi would notice that his brother disapears from the house for a few hours. This dissapearance became more frequent, and the hours spent took longer. Kokichi decided that he would follow his brother next time, out of curiosity of what he was up to.
The revelation hit kokochi like a truck. His brother was secretly in a small gang that was pretty well known in the area as "DICE". The gang consists of several orphans and were extremely strict in that manner. His brother was one of them. kokochi watched them converse, using slangs and swear words. He watched as his brother gulped down alchohol and laughed at vulgar jokes. He was using a fake name, and lying about being a single child orphan like the rest them.
So this was his brother. Well, it was only natural that someone with so much pressure would be seeking escape from their harsh reality.
Yet kokichi could not help but feel a sense of dissapointemnt in his chest. His admiration for his brother wlowly dissapated as he watched his brother's other personality.
The truth.
This was the part of his brother that he hid from kokichi underneath the facade of etiquette. This was the truth underneath his brother's lies. Kokichi wished he had not discovered the truth, that he could have led to believe his charming and perfect older brother, his model, his inspiration.
He knew that it had all changed. He couldnt hold on to his beliefs anymore, and knew he had to face the cold, harsh reality of his brother.
It was ironic. His brother was lying to everyone about his personality to keep his life, while kokichi was lying about his life to keep his personality. Although brothers, they were so similar despite their many differences. Well, they were siblings afterall.
Kokichi was so fixated on his brother that he had not notice one of the other members creeping up from behind. The member pulled on kokochi's hair unsuspectingly, and dragged kokichi to the gang as kokichi tried to pull free frpm that member's grasp futilely.
As kokichi was brought in closer, his pale, purple hued eyes met his brother's, and both of their eyes exchanged several anxious messages within that wuick glance. His brother' expression was equivalent to a shocked, horrified expression, while kokichi was sure that he could not help but portray a terrified, anxious one. But another member broke that contact between them before they had the chance to exchange words.
"Wow, whos this little guy?" She jeered at him.
This felt exactky like it had in school. Where everyone taller had picked on him because of his small frame. He felt like a small, powerless sheep in the territory of lions. Kokichi was, of course, terrified. Yet he could not let that fear show on his face. Not now.
He was best at controlling his emotions, afterall. It was one of the only things kokichi could do right. He calmed his nerves as he put on yet another performance.
"Kokichi Ouma's my name! And if you couldnt tell, I'm his brother."
The brother he was too ashamed to be honest about.
His brother always expressed to kokichi that he was proud of him no matter what, and would always be with him, even if their parents werent. He had always told kokichi that he would never be ashamed of him, and that he wasnt a dissapointment. His brother called kokichi his pride and joy, which kokichi still remember and held onto until today,
Well that was obviously a lie too.
Kokichi felt their gaze shift onto the person he was pointing to, who became increasingly horrified as they each turned their heads torwards him. His brother.
It was a taunt, directed torwards his brother. Kokichi's pent up emotions and anger torwards his brother led him to this action, before he realized the gravity of what he just did.
"You lied to us..?"
"Why?!"
Kokichi felt the tension rise as the anger of the members were directed at his brother. And he was the cause of it.
Before he knew it, everything escalated faster than he could react. A fight broke out among the members and he watched his perfect brother get beaten as he had i school. Before he knew it, his fragile and beaten brother was in his arms, and kokichi was handed a gun by one of the members.
"Shoot him and you live."
Those words echoed through his head.
"Only you can get out of here alive. Do it."
He was in a gang. Notorious for their cruelty. That was what they were famous for.
Shakily, kokichi brought the gun to his brother's head.
What else was he supposed to do? They would never let his brother escape, and he would die if he didnt kill his brother.
Kokichi brought his fingers to the trigger. Is this it? He's going to murder his own brother right here at the moment, just to save himself.
No. Kokichi never wanted his outcome. If these were the consequences of his actions, kokichi would much rather bring himself to be the one punished for his own actions. "I-I can't-" kokichi started, before his brother Grabbed his hand with the trigger.
"You're still my pride and joy." His brother gave one last smile before pulling the trigger.
Pink blood splattered all over kokichi as he watched his brother's life fade right before him.
His brother's blood.
-------
When kokichi arrived back home, it was past midnight. He caught the sight of his parents waiting in front of the doorway. Probably for his brother.
Well, they should be prepared to wait forever.
"WHERE IS HE?!" His mother grasped kokichi's sholder, squeezing it hard.
Ow.
"ANSWER ME!! WHERE IS MY BABY BOY??"
Not here, apperently.
Kokichi couldn't raise his head to face them. He couldn't stand to lie anymore. Not after everything that happened.
But what would his brother's death had been for, then?
His brother wasted his entire life, trying to be perfect. Trying to make their parents happy.
All that time spent for something so insignificant. His brother was reaching for the top when nothing was up there.
"He's dead."
Hesitantly, kokichi brought his eyes up to face his parents. He saw their mortified faces. It was the truth that shocked them the most. The truth ended up harming them more than both pf their lies.
kokichi walked away from his parents after he revealed those words to them. He walked away from his home.
The gang was quite suprised to see kokichi show up there, after finally letting him off. And quite displeased at the fresh memories he brought them too. But it doesnt matter. Kokichi wanted revenge.
Kokichi said he had killed his parents to the gang, which was true. He killed their morality and life ashuman beings after he announced the sudden news. And he never intended on going back to their graves.
He challenged the leader of the gang to a competition of leadership. The knife game. He won the game and became the leader of the gang. The leader of devils. The leader of evil.
After his ruling, he orchestrated many harmless pranks, dialing down the cruelty. The gang became more known as fun jokesters instead. He learned the lives and personalities of each 9 members and they grew closer after their reluctant hatred torwards one another in the beginning, He earned all their trust, and they became the family he always wanted.
The end

My Fan Interpretation of Kokichi Ouma's Backstory
~~~~~~~~
Keep in that this is just an interpretation of how I think Kokichi was brought up, how his extreme distrust of others began and why he is very close to DICE.
~~~~~~~~
Infancy
Two years before Kokichi was born, his father's first wife died during childbirth. The child's name was Shion Ouma and was his older half-brother. Shion's father lived in solemn despair for two years but a good-hearted woman came to their lives and gave them meaning again. After the two were married, Kokichi was finally born and was beloved by his family. His mother and father doted on him. While at first, Shion was jealous the first time, he quickly made a bond with his half-brother and promised to always protect him and his cute genuine smile.
Childhood (Before the Orphanage)
Kokichi was a chaotic child. When Shion lied about doing his homework, he asked why he did that and Shion had to explain what lying was. Then he started lying but he was only lying to keep things interesting. His mother was the only one who caught on and was imptessed with her son's ability. She was quite a joker herself so she only asked him to use his lies to entertain people or to use it wisely.
At that age, he was very close to his father. His father was an upcoming politician and plans to improve the country. Kokichi always sat by his side, learning the skills of what it takes to become a leader. From a young age, he learned that to be a leader, you're willing to make any sacrifices to see your group to achieve their goals and he took it to heart.
His love of video games and Grape Panta stemmed from his brother. Though very well-behaved and mature to people on the outside, he is more laid-back and messy behind doors. The two brothers loved playing games together, Shion would often teach Kokichi power combos and they would always compete who was better. (Kokichi kept winning but Shion was just happy to spend time with his brother.)
But tragedy strikes when a rival politician hired an assassin to murder the family. While 9-year-old Shion and 7-year-old Kokichi were playing chess upstairs, their parents and some of their staff were murdered during their electoral meeting. After Kokichi explains how to win chess (using the available strategies and pieces to take on the king), Shion gives him advice that sometimes they don't have to do anything to win a game and promptly gives him a hug.
The assassin finished the job by going to their mansion, killing the rest of their staff and burn the place down. Shion smells smoke and carried a coughing Kokichi out of their room. They were face to face with their assassin. He explained that even though they could get out, their parents are gone forever. Kokichi kept on insisting that it was a lie but Shion sets his despair aside and prepared to fight for his little brother.
The assassin was impressed with Shion's determination but this job was getting too long and was about to stab Kokichi but Shion stepped in front to save him. As fire engulfed them, the assassin was crushed by falling debris and Kokichi held his dead brother in his arms until help found them.
The rival politician offered to take him in and Kokichi felt like he could trust this man because he says he was close to his father. But after a week, Kokichi finds out that he'll get killed if he stays and the seemingly nice man that took him in was the same guy who hired the assassin that killed his family so he ran away. His extreme distrust of people started here and would continue on.
Childhood (Orphanage and his Escape)
Kokichi eventually finds an orphanage and he was taken in. Yuki (Maki's friend name from my other post) was a year older than him and was one of his friends and the two of them would always play with Maki (Like pretending that they were soldiers and giving each other soda pins for badges). He never told the two girls his backstory and lied about running away from home because he murdered his parents to usurp their tittle as a Supreme Leader.
Yuki thought that it was a lie and Maki was unamused. For 3 years, it was pure bliss. All the older kids became Kokichi's friends and the future members of DICE. Yuki and Maki were the ones who gave Kokichi his signature checkered scarf and he loved it. Then Maki was recruited to become an assassin and never told Kokichi. When he was 12 years old, the orphanage was under new management and the kids were treated poorly. Kokichi wanted to talk with the new owners but found out that they were an assassin cult and Maki was now an assassin.
He still remembers the cold, dead eyes of his brother. He hated the idea of killing someone and hated assassins that killed his beloved family. His trust in Maki shatters and then tells the older kids what he found out. Needless to say they were furious. Since the older ones have a chance of becoming killers, they decided that they would escape first and come back for the others when they finally have the resources.
The new owners found out and plot to kill Kokichi and the others by staging it as a car accident. This was the second time he saved by someone as Yuki jumped in front car and let the others escaped. He never forgot the smile she gave him and promised to take care of the others.
After being hurt many times, he masks his feelings and put the needs of his newfound family first. He develops his compulsive lying and forms a mini organization named DICE with him as a leader.
Teenager
Since they're on the run, they usually feed themselves by stealing and making elaborate heists to steal something priceless for money. Sometimes they make laughable crimes just to humor the authorities. With his leadership, a certain Ultimate Initiative wanted to see how this goes. Kokichi often refuses food to make sure that his members have enough food to be healthy thus stunting his growth at 14 years old.
He had a brief encounter with a certain detective in training named Shuichi Saihara who still didn't dye his hair and was looking for an alligator. Shuichi noticed Kokichi was starving with cuts and bruises and offers to buy him food and treating his injuries. Even though Kokichi refused, Shuichi still insisted and bought him a burger and Grape Panta.
Kokichi was very thankful for the food and was flustered when Shuichi took his hand and treated it. Then they part ways. During their time together, Kokichi developed a bit of a crush on the young Shuichi but he decides to let it go and finish what he was doing.
Since DICE was becoming well-known, Kokichi changes his look a bit. His natural hair-color was dark-purple but he added faded light purple tips to make it look cool. He made uniforms for everyone and gave himself an evil-looking cape and hat thus completing his arc as the "Ultimate Supre Leader".
~~~~~~~~
The End and I made use of some of his FTEs. This was fun to make and I'm always open for your interpretation. Thank you.
inside of me there are two wolves: "kokichi's backstory likely isn't that big and grand as he claims it is. i think his parents are either dead or very rarely present, and his background still is a bit eccentric, but no more than that"
and
"bam he loses his family and barely even remembers them, bam he loses his childhood innocence due to the need for skepticism to survive in the streets, bam some adults take him in but he can't help but notice something off, bam it turns out they're horrible people in a violent/murderous criminal organization who have Sinister Plots™, bam it turns out they're involving other children in this too, bam they manage to escape, ba-"
i’ve seen people give kokichi big backstories. i’ve seen people say it’s not that deep and his backstory is completely normal. these are both very valid interpretations, HOWEVER. i think people often forget that this is danganronpa. not just that, it’s danganronpa V3. remember that it’s TSUMUGI writing these backstories and kokichi’s is probably way more batshit insane and crazy than most people imagine
like, this is the same game that has half its cast’s backstories chock-full of anime references, a ton of them half met actual anime characters. ryoma. rantaro. gonta was literally RAISED by those reptite fuckers from chrono trigger!!! not to mention the general insanity of the rest of the events that happened to those and the other characters. the closest we have to normal is himiko kaede shuichi (and tsumugi herself i guess?). and with a character like kokichi? there’s NO way his is normal
if anything i think everyone vastly underestimates what kind of past kokichi has and how crazy tsumugi can get with inserting her favorite things into them. especially considering the very vague hints we already have, the fact that DICE is literally a reference in and of itself, and how his lab is actually just a supervillain lair. he could have met goku and we’d never know but it’s incredibly plausible to be canon
Byakuya: Was forced to fight against 15 of his siblings as a kid so he could become the heir to a rich organization otherwise he has to risk being a social pariah, and since he only grew up with one positive interaction in his life (butler), causing him to develop into being an asshole who feels superior
Nagito: lost his dog, lost his parents in a plane crash, got kidnapped, and many other bad things happened to him causing him to develop a love for hope that turned into an unhealthy obsession (and is literally diagnosed with lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia that at least explains his weird behavior)
Kokichi: *static noises*
My "The Hopelessly Talented and the Hope-filled Talentless" AU now lives rent-free in my mind so I'll share some background stuff for some of these kids
Hajime and Izuru are twins, Hajime is the older sibling by 16 minutes.
Their parents divorced just before they started junior high and Izuru was taken by their mother who remarried.
Although neither of them believe in twin ESP, both Hajime and Izuru have had moments when they were in sync with each other.
They could also sense when the other is in distress even if they are on different parts of the city. Hajime would get more irritated when Izuru is in distress, and Izuru would act clingier towards Hajime if he sensed distress from Hajime.
As all of Nagito's known relatives are dead, he worked with a trusted financial advisor to start up his investments before he partnered up with the Togami conglomerate.
Nagito currently has two people he is close with outside of Hope's Peak Academy, Kirumi Tojo and Yoshiya Kiryu.
Kirumi has a father in Osaka that she had cut contact with after she started attending Hope's Peak Academy.
Although Kokichi is the leader of DICE, the other members treat him more like a younger sibling most of the time, even those who are the same age or younger than him.
Izuru, Hajime, and Chiaki are gaming buddies. Chiaki knows the best meta strategies and what the best items are, Izuru is methodical and tactical in his gaming approach, while Hajime is best at communicating with teammates and NPCs.
I might go into more detail about their pasts here or maybe in a later fic. I haven't decided, but I'm having a lot of fun with all of this ^^
I just posted my new DRV3 oneshot, But There Were Still Thorns. It follows Ryoma, Kirumi, and Korekiyo after the end of season 53 as they figure out (in no particular order) where to live, how to live, and why to live.
“You know, Ryoma, it strikes me that a little drifting isn’t a bad thing for someone searching for a purpose,” Chiho said. “But I wonder if there is a way to keep yourself... anchored, while you look.”
“What, like a hobby?” he asked with skepticism bleeding into his voice.
“If you like,” she answered, undeterred. “Anything that gives you a way to fill your days, at least while you’re figuring out what you want to do with your life now that you’re outside of the game.”
That was the problem, he thought but did not say. Nobody had thought to ask whether he even wanted to have this strange, second chance at life. Now he was supposed to figure out what to do with it?
It’s set in the world of my other fic, The Simple Truth, but can be read without it.
「 ☆ 」     ❝  Man, I love this holiday! Mother’s Day is just the BEST!  ❞  Kokichi chimes gleefully, arms in the air and an insanely-bright smile on his face.  ❝  Yep! This is my faaaaaaavorite day of the entire year!  ❞
It definitely doesn’t make his stomach sick and his chest clench and his mind mangle his very core as he recalls vivid images of a corrupted childhood and the wretched woman who manages to nauseate his thoughts even from beyond the grave…. at least, Kokichi assumes she’s dead.
When he had fled from home, it certainly seemed like she was on death’s doorstep.
Tumblr media
❝  … That’s a lie!  ❞  Switching gears to aid his treacherous mouth, seemingly determined to make him suffer as much as possible on this holiday, Kokichi laughs and adds in a miraculously blunt tone considering the BUZZING within his skull.  ❝  Christmas is my favorite. Although, Halloween is a pretty close second…  ❞     「 ☆ 」
I think since we often hear about how much you love your favorites, I'd be interested to hear things you like about some of your least favorite characters. I think it'd be a nice change of pace.
Hey there's something fun. Ok warning for me talking about characters I dont like, I mean I'm being nice, but I know how it feels
Hiyoko: love the character palette, one of my fave ones. I'm glad that there's girl characters who are Straigh Up Mean (genuine, we have so many asshole shithead male characters). Her backstory is like teetering on complex, so it gives you a lot of fodder to how she'd develop into a person and react to things. Best case scenario where she can be mean to people (in jest) but will Vicious Mockery anyone who dares to mess her people is endearing.
Teruteru: I love mama's boys (gender neutral). Good motivation, I think the "hides his accent and general background to make it further in the industry " is interesting, like that's a real thing! You can always get wholesome with the narrative of feeding your friends.
that's it for sdr2 lol
DR1: listen it's been years I might be super outdated ok
Celestia: love the aesthetic, the little finger accessory honestly says so much. Accent was pleasant. Motivation seemed silly at the time but honestly if I re-shape it into "I want to live my fantasy life" fuck yeah girl me too.
Byakuya: super fun to dunk on. I have heard he has an Arc I dont remember but I'll believe it. Voice actor does great stuff. I am now... going. To bark at you. Woof woof bark bark woof woof woof-
DRv3:
Kokichi. Is a jester and liar, I like that. I like his black and white theme, really sticks out. Good VA. Definitely memorable.
Tenko: wlw always wins SOME points for me. Oh she gets to actually make dumb and stupid faces, I love that, more girls making ugly faces! Her last moment was kind of sweet I liked it.
I'm sorry but I will never say anything good about the monokubs I hate them too much
Promo!
Tumblr media
As the camera flickers to life, a young boy in a hospital gown can be seen. He's lying in a hospital bed, so naturally, the logical conclusion is that he's in the hospital. Poor thing.
"Hm... Alright, I'm Kokichi Ouma. Li'l Ultimate Choir. And let's make this clear. I don't want to be here. But I need to. Cuz the doctors are making me. They say it'd be 'good for me to socialize'. So I need a promo, m'kay?"
How demanding! But... he's in the hospital... Do you say anything or even respond at all?
honestly, i think the fact that D.I.C.E only has 10 members, including ouma, is more evidence proving he's actually the ultimate (supreme?) leader, rather than the opposite.
knowing him, some of his pranks ought to be remarkably high-effort, even if it's pretty stupid. like yeah, let's break in an absurdly well guarded exhibit to completely cover each and every room with clown doodles and graffiti, all without being caught, why not.
they probably caused some incident every 6 months or something. i hc one of those incidents snowballed into this big thing, and some authorities began to suspect a big organization was behind it...
so imagine their surprise when the "big organization" was just a group of young clowns and their 13 year old leader... wait, he's the same age—?!
i also hc the other members of D.I.C.E are very talented, but not exactly ultimate level—unless you count the violinist and lucky student, but those aren't talents used exclusively for heists and pranks. that makes ouma's achievements all that more impressive.
a few hijinks and shenanigans (and maybe some serious stuff) later, kokichi ouma was given the title of "ultimate supreme leader."
DR Characters Assigned DC Roles
The main premise of this is that Shuichi Saihara as Robin 3 is both dating civilian Kokichi Oma as Bernard Dowd and flirting/being flirted with by his alter ego Stray. Shuichi has no idea Kokichi is Stray but Kokichi definitely knows Shuichi is Robin 3. What order do these events happen in? Who knows!
The Bats and Birds
Batman (The Bat): Kyoko Kirigiri
Agent A: Makoto Naegi
Robin 1, Nightwing: Kaede Akamatsu
Robin 2, Red Hood: Hajime Hinata
Robin 3, Red Robin: Shuichi Saihara
Spoiler, Robin 4, Batgirl (Batboy): Kaito Momota
Robin 5: Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu
Batgirl, Oracle: Chiaki Nanami
Black Bat, Batgirl, Orphan: Maki Harukawa
Batwoman: Aoi Asahina
Signal: Yasuhiro Hagakure
The Cats
Catwoman: Celestia Ludenberg
Stray & Bernard Dowd: Kokichi Oma
The Rogues
Joker: Junko Enoshima
Punchline: Mukuro Ikusaba
Harley Quinn: Toko Fukawa
Poison Ivy: Komaru Naegi
Blackmask: Mondo Owada
Penguin: Kiyotaka Ishimaru
Scarecrow: Miu Iruma
Bane: Nekomaru Nidai
Mr. Freeze: Teruteru Hanamura
Riddler: Hifumi Yamada
Mad Hatter: Angie Yonaga
Deathstroke: Tsumugi Shirogane
The League of Assassins
Ra's al Ghul: Haiji Towa
Talia al Ghul: Korekiyo Shinguji
Prudence Wood: Peko Pekoyama
The Outlaws
Starfire: Sonia Nevermind
Arsenal: Nagito Komaeda
Bizarro: Ibuki Mioda
Teen Titans
Beast boy: Gundham Tanaka
Raven: Himiko Yumeno
Wonder girl: Tenko Chabashira
Superboy 1 a.k.a Conner Kent (Supergirl): Akane Owari
Kidflash: Mahiru Koizumi
Cyborg: K1b0
Aquaboy (Aquagirl): Hiyoko Saionji
Superboy 2 a.k.a. Jonathan Kent: Masaru Daimon
The Justice League
Superman (Superwoman): Sakura Ogami
Wonder Woman: Kirumi Tojo
Green Arrow: Byakuya Togami
Aquaman: Leon Kuwata
Martian Manhunter: Ultimate Imposter
Green Lantern: Kazuichi Soda
Captain Marvel: Nagisa Shingetsu
Flash: Chihiru Fujisaki
Zatanna: Sayaka Maizono
Black Canary: Mikan Tsumiki
Most of these characters have been assigned DC roles based on their personalities, regardless of gender (except for Superboy and Bizarro since they're clones of Superman so have to be the same gender as him)! I included some Rogues, League of Assassins, Outlaws, Teen Titans and Justice Leaguers because the Batfam interact with them a lot.
In my mind, Kyoko Kirigiri is together with Makoto Naegi and has been for the long term but her as the Bat and Celestia Ludenberg as Catwoman share some flirtatious banter.
Hajime Hinata as Robin 2 died and came back, and when he did he came back different. How much you want to lean into Jason Todd's backstory or Hajime Hinata's and whether you want to include Izuru Kamukuru is up to you.
Kaito Momota may or may not have had an unsuccessful romantic relationship with Shuichi when he was Spoiler and Shuichi was Robin 3. This can be prior to Shuichi meeting Kokichi or Robin 3 and Stray could have had some playful banter going on during this time (this works because Shuichi actually dates civilian Kokichi, which could be after he and Kaito break up). Kaito could be with Maki now!
Yes, this character assignment does mean that Masaru Daimon is Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu's best friend. Yes, that is hilarious.
I was running out of DR characters near the end so I started swapping some around to find suitable Justice Leaguers. Masaru was originally Captain Marvel but then that only left Kotoko Utsugi as an option for Superboy 2 and I thought Fuyuhiko would hate her. So, Masaru became Superboy 2 and Nagisa Shingetsu Captain Marvel. Byakuya Togami was originally assigned as Lucius Fox, the manager of WE, but I had to swap him to Green Arrow because he was just too perfect for that!
I hope you enjoyed! Please like, comment and reblog. Your support is much appreciated.
☆ν3 ʀє∂єѕιgη: кσʀєкιуσ ѕнιηgυʝι☆ (sorry late post i kind of lost motivation)
this is from a ghosted collab like everyone else has been saying and i'm in charge of kiyo's redesign! (honestly this looks more like an outfit redesign) his design is already one of my favourites but 1. he looks too much like a military dude and there are some potentially problematic implications to it, and 2. you can't tell what his talent is from the design or splash art, so those were my main goals while doing this! i kept some parts of his og design like most of his face and the mask and the chain, and then i tried to mix dark academia and traditional japanese elements to make his talent more obvious, his design keyword for v3 is "aesthetic" so i tried to keep that too
honestly kiyo is probably the hardest to redesign because he has a specific reason for wearing that military uniform so removing it = removing his backstory, and it's hard to add in cultural elements to fit his talent without being controversial, plus his design was apparently visual kei inspired so i had a hard time deciding if i should keep it, but i think this looks decent enough(?) (i also wanted to give kiyo glasses to make him look more scholarly but there would have been too much going on with his face so he just gets reading glasses)
p.s. if you're from this collab feel free to use it for screenshot redraws just make sure to credit me! (kokichi design from slide 8 is by @/appreciative_mug on insta!)
💙if you are planning to repost my drawings/edits, etc either ask for permission in the comments/private message me, or mention my username in the caption AND tag me, or else i will ask you to remove the post for stealing thank you💙
if you guys were to make an au where Saiouma have their normal backstories but the key difference is how they react to/cope with their trauma- how would they react and how drastically would that change their present day selves.
by this i mean they obviously haven't become entirely different people- they're still them at heart- but they have developed into different personalities, at least externally. like a Shuichi who maybe became more determined or defiant instead of becoming reserved, or a Kokichi who became heroic or stoic instead of resorting to lies
i like the idea of alternate reactions of their past causing a butterfly effect where they turn out different by the time they meet at teens. this would also of course affect their dynamic as a ship too, which can make for interesting explorations of how these changes affect them
