summary: kyoko's been given the silent treatment all day, but at the end of the day she's still there to comfort y/n throughout the storm.

"you're always busy," y/n sighed.

"i know. i told you there's a big project coming up, and--"

"yeah, i know," y/n pushed her breakfast around with her spoon. "i just don't see the point of you asking me to move in with you if you're never gonna be here."

"i thought you knew what it would mean to move in with me," kyoko said as she tried to meet y/n's eyes, only to find them staring at the plate in front of her. "you've always known i was a busy person."

"yeah, you're right," y/n huffed, getting up and putting her plate away. "i should've known better."

"y/n, don't be like--"

"like what?" y/n challenged, her eyebrows knit together as she flipped around to glare at her lover. "sorry i couldn't use my brilliant detective skills to figure out that you would never have time for me."

"stop," kyoko frowned. "cool off."

"cool off?" y/n let out a dry laugh. "fine. i'll 'cool off'."

"y/n--"

the door was slammed before she could finish saying her name.

kyoko shook her head and sighed.

when y/n came back, there were no words exchanged between them.

at first it wasn't obvious because kyoko was rarely one to start a conversation, but after three hours of silence she attempted to try.

"y/n?" kyoko called into the office.

there was no response.

"y/n?" she tried again, just a bit louder.

after getting no response again, she opened the door. sure enough, it revealed the woman who was aggressively typing on her keyboard.

"can you hear me?"

the only response she got was more angry clicking.

kyoko looked around and saw that there was no way that y/n couldn't hear her. she wasn't wearing earphones, and other than the loud clacks of the keyboard it was silent.

"y/n," kyoko sighed. "are you ignoring me?"

well, the answer was clear before she even asked. it didn't take a detective to figure out that y/n was giving kyoko the silent treatment.

"this is ridiculous," kyoko rolled her eyes and left the office.

and it was true. that's what kyoko fully believed until it reached lunchtime.

"when're you gonna stop ignoring me?" kyoko asked as they sat at the table to eat lunch.

y/n daintily picked up her napkin and patted the corners of her mouth before getting up and putting away her dish.

kyoko still thought it was ridiculous, but she was starting to understand how effective it was. she missed the cheerful chatty y/n, and she wasn't enjoying the foreign tense silence that filled their shared home.

she preferred y/n's angry yelling to her composed purposeful silence.

"is this because i told you to cool off?" kyoko asked as she leaned against the door to y/n's office.

y/n jumped slightly, as kyoko could be as quiet as a cat. the detective smiled, remembering the last time she had managed to sneak up on y/n. she had screamed in surprise and suggested they get her a kitty bell.

the smile was quickly wiped off of her face when she realized that the jump was going to be y/n's only reaction. no playful remark, only more unbearable silence.

she wasn't sure how long this silent treatment was going to last, but it made her appreciate y/n's talkativeness more. you never realize how much you love something until it's gone.

"what do you want for dinner? we can order," she tried again after a while, hoping that y/n's love for food would overrule her ridiculous resolve.

unfortunately, it did not.

before she could order y/n's favorite like she had planned, y/n was in the kitchen preparing dinner like most other nights.

"tastes good," kyoko complimented. "like it always does."

the comment put a small smile on y/n's face, but she tried to hide it by shoving more food in her mouth.

kyoko sighed through her nose. she was weaker to y/n's voice than she thought she would be. less than a day in, and she was already desperate to be graced by y/n's often pointless but heartening chatter again.

kyoko went to bed earlier than she normally would've. well, physically she was in bed. she couldn't sleep.

for an entire hour, she wondered if y/n would come to their shared bed tonight or if she would sleep on the couch.

after that hour of restlessness, y/n switched off all of the lights in their home and slipped under the sheets with kyoko.

y/n would normally snuggle up to kyoko, but tonight she stayed on her side of the bed.

even though y/n was there, kyoko was left sleepless for another half hour. she didn't know if y/n was asleep yet, but she didn't dare turn around to check.

a distant boom sounded, and as if on cue, the pitter pattering of the rain started.

kyoko turned on her back to face the ceiling. she figured that she wouldn't be able to sleep any time soon, so she stared blankly at the ceiling, trying to figure out how to make this better.

she continuously felt the need to sigh, but she didn't want to give in, so she tried to take deep breaths to calm her restlessness. perhaps after a few relaxing inhales and exhales, her mind will finally shut off.

it was only when the claps of the thunderstorm got louder that kyoko noticed that something was off. y/n's elbow had accidentally jabbed into kyoko's arm as a result of a violent flinch after a particularly loud rumble.

kyoko turned her head to face y/n. her back was to her, but she could tell that she was scared because of how intensely she was shaking.

she wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do, but she reached over and wrapped her arms around y/n's convulsing body, spooning her shaking love.

"i'm sorry i'm not here that often," kyoko apologized, pushing her pride aside. she softly traced patterns onto y/n's arm, trying to distract her from the booming sky. "i'll do better."

y/n leaned back into the warmth and pulled kyoko's arms to wrap around her tighter.

"i love you," kyoko said as y/n's breathing evened.

"i love you, too," y/n said so quietly that kyoko almost missed it.

kyoko smiled, absentmindedly running her fingers through y/n's hair. after a torturous day of not hearing y/n's voice, she had been rewarded.

🎤 you slowly crept into the room, wearing a nervous smile. "uh.. i'm guessing you like it..?" you stood up straight once she slowly turned her head to look at you. jesus christ, she was absolutely stunning! it was a good idea to give her this type of haircut, but did she like it? you could assume the sound you heard earlier was a squeal, but what if you misheard it? what if it was actually a shriek? a shriek of horror or something?!

🎤 you didn't notice you were sweating more than you already were. she did though, and raised an eyebrow but her smile remained, "yeah, definitely! it's amazing, i'm sure everyone's gonna love it." she went up to you with the biggest smile you've ever seen, and you smiled back, except less wider.

🎸 my 1st wife we all know how unique this lady is, honestly. she probably got really bored of her current hairstyle, and wanted a surprise. "S/O, lovely!! ibuki wants a new hairstyle and wants it to be a surprise!"

🎸 she was a bundle of sunshine, and since she was so eager to get a new haircut from you, you obliged. "okay, darling! let me just get the things i need."

🎸 after all the preparations, she sat down. although she kept moving, you managed to keep her tame and cut her hair properly. after all the cutting, shaving, etc. you were very focused. suddenly, you felt ibuki pinch your arm. you pulled back, surprised.

🎸 "ibuki, what the-?!" she laughed, and you just stood there, still in surprise. you snickered a little soon after, and sighed, "geez, ibuki. you're so random." she hummed, "ibuki was bored!" it was an excuse that she often used, but you didn't mind.

🎸 you rolled your eyes playfully and smiled, but continued to style her hair properly. then, her phone vibrated, and you stopped doing her hair so she could grab her phone.

🎸 she grabbed her phone, and began texting in a group chat with her classmates, you didn't see what they were talking about, but she was telling everyone about how her girlfriend was giving her a haircut. was she flexing?

🎸 you had a lot of time to cut her hair perfectly, and make it the style you feel she'd like. after about an hour of doing her hair, you were finally done. "ibuki, darling, i'm finished!" you set down the scissors on the cart beside you where you got everything else, and went out the get a mirror and broom.

🎸 she felt her hair, and made an "ooh" sound, she was satisfied with how it felt, so she was very excited to see the final result. she told everyone in the groupchat about how her girlfriend was done with her hair, most of them said to take a picture, and she actually did.

🎸 she examined her hair, humming some of her songs while having a dorky smile on her face. she loved it, she turned her head to see each side, and was very happy with how it turned out. she took a photo with a peace sign, and sent it to the groupchat. your footsteps were approaching, and she put down the phone.

🎸 you brought out the mirror and handed it to her, but she just set it down. you were confused of course, since you didn't know she had already seen what she looked like. "ibuki knows what she looks like, and ibuki applauds you!"

🎸 she looks at you with a bright smile, and you widen your eyes. "you looked at it?" then you groaned and put your face in your hands. "c'mon, man! ibuki, whyyy?" she giggled, and sat up from the seat, and hugged you.

🎸 "ibuki couldn't resist, ibuki was too excited." "of course you were."

CHIAKI NANAMI

🎮 chiaki >>> kazuichi you requested it. "chiaki, would you like to try this hairstyle?" although it wasn't a surprise, spoiler alert, i can say she liked it. when you suggested it, she thought, why not? after all, the hairstyle seemed nice and she saw no problem getting it.

🎮 she didn't think that you would do it for her though, so imagine how her eyes widen when she realized you're going to cut her hair for her. though chiaki doesn't mind you cutting her hair and stuff, she'd rather a professional do it. just in case she or you would get hurt, but you told her that you could do it!

🎮 it didn't really take much convincing, just promising that you would be extremely careful when doing this. "S/O, please be cautious when you're cutting my hair.. i don't wanna get injured." you nod, putting your hands on your hips. "don't you worry, sweetheart! i'd never do anything to harm you."

🎮 you sweatdropped and turned your head so she couldn't hear you, and whispered, "maybe on accident, but never on purpose."

🎮 she sat down on the chair, and wore the black garbage bag you gave her. you clipped it so it wouldn't fall, and begin to cut her hair. chiaki would most likely sleep while the process is happening, so you have to lift her head and turn her head manually, since you don't really want to disturb her while she's asleep.

🎮 you hear her light snoring, and you smile to yourself. man, she's adorable. anyway, you continue doing your thing, and focus completely. you wouldn't want to mess this up, so you had to be focused.

🎮 she's still sleeping by the time you're done, and you wait a few minutes until you shake chiaki awake. she slowly lifts her head, and yawns. she looks down at the floor, and sees her hair, she's not surprised, it seemed that this haircut would require to get rid of most of her hair.

🎮 not that she minded of course, so she looked at you and yawned again, slowly closing her eyes as if she was about to sleep. but, you nervously laughed, and shaked her awake, but this time with less force. "chiakiii, don't fall asleep on me. you need to see yourself! you look great!"

🎮 she woke up instantly, and blushed. she smiled at you, and you gave her a mirror from the cart. "here you go!"

🎮 she examined herself for a few minutes, and her face was neutral. the pink tint she had on her cheeks had disappeared, and that worried you. "chiaki, is it okay?" she looked up from the mirror, and directly into your e/c eyes. her light pink eyes had literal sparkles in them.

🎮 "S/O, this is wonderful."

KYOKO KIRIGIRI

🔎 honestly i think she'd be hot af with this type of hairstyle lmao she's raising an eyebrow once you suggest it, and at first declines. why would she need to do that? her hair right now was fine.

🔎 that is, until you showed her what haircut you were giving her. kyoko thought it looked.. great, although she wouldn't admit it. after you showed her how it looked like, she nodded. "it looks fine, i suppose i could try it out."

🔎 she suspected you'd do it yourself, she didn't know why, but she had a feeling. and her gut was correct, you were doing it yourself. she didn't object, but she did tell you to be cautious when you're shaving the side of her head and cutting her hair.

🔎 you just nodded throughout her lecturing, and playfully groaned a few times. kyoko seemed to be very serious about safety, so you took her lecture to heart, but you'd rather die than admit that. "fineee, i'll follow your rules, mom." she stared at you with a blank face, and then it turned into a "are you kidding me" face.

🔎 she walked to the chair, and sat down on it. she then looked at you, "are you going to give me an apron?" you blinked, and then realized what she meant, scrambling to get a black apron and asked her to put it on. she did, and you clipped it.

🔎 "huh, your hair is long." she sighed, but slightly smiled, unfortunately though, you couldn't see it. "you don't say, S/O." you ignored that, went straight to brushing her hair and just generally preparing for when you were going to permanently cut her hair.

🔎 you paused for a minute, and gave her, her phone. "naegi messaged you," she took the phone, and read the lucky student's message. it was something along the lines of "kiri hellp togami is gonnaa kill me", and kyoko just responded with, "deal with him, i am at a very important meeting." naegi replied, "HOW AM I SUPPSED TO DELA WITH TOGAMJ AND HOW IMPORTANT IS THS TMEETING", she left him on read and set the phone down, and her phone kept vibrating with notifications from naegi.

🔎 yeah.. he's probably missing the day you come back the next day. anyway, you're done doing her hair, and rubbed your hands together. "agh- wait, i need to go to the bathroom," you left the room to go to the bathroom, leaving kyoko to think about what it looked like on her. did you think it looked good? i mean, did it look good?

🔎 she got up from the chair, looked around for a mirror, and looked at her reflection. to be honest, she looked absolutely amazing. the hairstyle fit her, and she really wouldn't mind looking like this for the rest of her life. kyoko continued to examining herself and the haircut you gave her, then made a hum of approval.

🔎 you came back a few minutes after, "kyoko! sorry, i just realized i didn't-" you stopped your sentence once you saw kyoko and the mirror. she turned around, saw you, and nodded. "this haircut is pleasant." your mind crashed, then you later on let out a sigh of relief. "phew, thank Atua."

🎼 honestly she'd suggest it and you'd be forced to agree bc she makes those little puppy eyes if you decline lmao

🎼 but ofc, you don't decline and gladly accept. "S/O, can you try doing this haircut for me? please?" you blink, surprised at the sudden suggestion. you asked to see what it looked like, and kaede happily nodded. she showed you what it looked like on her phone, and scrolled through a few examples until you could get an idea of what you were doing.

🎼 "i can do this, nothing too much for the ultimate hairdresser!" you proudly said, which made kaede more excited than she already was. she squealed, jumping around and celebrating.

🎼 after a few minutes later, you were ready to style her hair the way she wanted it. so, you went into your "greatest room", as you call it, and organize everything in there before you called kaede in to officially cut her hair.

🎼 "alright piano woman! come in!" you yelled out for her, and she peeked through the door with an eyebrow raised. "c'mon, S/O! i told you not to call me piano woman.." she face palmed, and walked into the room, observing everything. "huh, this is oddly clean," your girlfriend looked at you with a grin, "i'm surprised." you gasped dramatically, clearly over exaggerating. "rude!"

🎼 "get onto the chair or i won't cut your hair," your demeanor immediately changed, seeming smug instead of offended. kaede rolled her eyes, and sat onto the chair, "i can't deny that i'm fairly excited about this." she admitted, giggling. you take it as a compliment.

🎼 you're doing preparations, and both of you hear a doorbell. you groaned, "dang it," you told kaede that you'd be back after you answered the door. you walked to the door, and looked through the peephole. oh, it was just saihara.

🎼 what the fuck was saihara doing here.

🎼 you open the door with a face that was just screaming "wtf", but disappointingly, the detective didn't notice. "u-um.. hello, akamatsu is here, right..?" he's timid, and he's literally shaking. you didn't know why, you're not intimidating. or maybe because he's an introvert, and he's not used to being around other people.

🎼 "she is, saihara. but we're actually doing something, i was about to cut her hair." you explain, and saihara's eyes widened. "oh- i-i'm sorry, i was just visiting.." he was apologetic as always, and you just awkwardly smiled, "you can come inside and watch me cut kaede's hair, i'm sure she won't mind."

🎼 so you lead him to the room, and you bring him an extra chair to sit on. he watched as you shaved some hair off, cut some hair off, and all that hairdresser shit. then, you were finished. you turned to the detective, who was avoiding eye contact. "saihara, could you fetch me the broom in the kitchen? thank you." he nodded, sprinting out of the room (and nearly tripping, somehow) to get what you had asked him for.

🎼 kaede looked down and played with her fingers. "fetch? really, S/O?" you sweatdropped, "yeah, i'm not sure why i used that word either, trust me." she quietly laughed, and then asked for a mirror. you thought about it, but declined, saying that sweeping the floor was important (priorities, yes) than showing herself how she looked like.

🎼 she pouted, disappointed that you wouldn't let her see how cool she looked. "S/O, let me see! i need to know!" she exclaimed, but you still denied. eventually, kaede gave up on trying to persuade you to give her a mirror.

🎼 saihara had come back with the broom, so you thanked him, and swept the floor. saihara, when he saw kaede's hair, was shocked. he wouldn't admit that in front of the person who literally had scissors near her and was kaede's girlfriend, but kaede was gorgeous (not that she wasn't already gorgeous)! he means that in a platonic way, of course.

🎼 she's stunned to silence once she sees herself, she looks.. great. she looks up with you with a surprised expression, mouth agape, eyes widened, all that stuff. this made you chuckle, "geez, kaede. it's not that big of a deal."

🎼 her eyes twitch, "how is it not that big of a deal!? this is amazing!!" she's absolutely happy with the outcome, and she's definitely going to flex her hair to her classmates, mostly unintentionally.
