i rlly miss naruto before he could control the nine tails because that naruto was so interesting and compelling. like every time the nine tails power comes out it is when some profound moment happens to him. when sasuke jumped in front of hakus little knives things and when he jumps to protect sasuke in the chunin exams (it’s not a Big thing like in land of the waves but he has the like red eyes and shit thing lol) and ofc in vote1. the scene on the bridge with orochimaru (don’t talk about sasuke like you own him especially in front of me!) etc.. like this is just smth so interesting about naruto how his love and compassion and Need to protect those closest to him just completely overtakes him. i stg like every scene where he’s like kneeling in front of the nine tails and having like a 100 yard stare is ingrained in my head because he looks so. like lost and out of it. like he doesn’t even rlly know wtf is happening he is just Feeling So much it quite literally overpowers him and turns him into a monster. his love and rage are so deeply intertwined it’s insaneeeee. just like!!!!! land of the waves hes surround by the nine tails chakra and it’s crazy but he’s holding sasuke so gently and close to him. and then “i’m going to kill you”. vote1 naruto through tears in his eyes while simultaneously begging sasuke not to go also “i’m going to break every bone in your body” “don’t talk about sasuke like you own him especially in front of me” like he just! he is so normal!!!!! HE IS THE FACE OF LOVES RAGE

hey! so, I want your opinion on soulless!sam, because I think jared did a great job playing this other version of sam
Soulless!Sam was a great character. I loved that in the beginning of season 6, he wasn't just acting as a SoullessSam, he was acting as SoullessSam faking being the real Sam for Dean, and there were many times where he almost but not quite convincing pull it off.   Speaking as someone with a theater background, I was impressed with how Jared pulled it off as I wouldn't know how to approach that role. Often actors play the fake character fully as if they are the real character until the ta!da reveal.
First, what is a soul? In the SPN-verse, the soul is the person’s self.   We’ve seen the souls of Dean, Sam, and Bobby in Heaven and Hell and they appear to be no different from themselves on Earth. What makes up the self is the conscious, subconscious, and emotion, which I like to call the trinity.
When we see soulless people on the show, they give into their worse impulses because there were no trinity to hold them in check. Some feel free once unshackled of their soul, some shackle themselves to prevent hurting others, some make the cold calculation for the "greater good", and others rely on people they admire for guidance. When Sam, Donatello, and Jack lost their souls, they cycle through those four reactions.
SoullessSam felt he became a better hunter when unshackled by a soul, but he also let Dean get turned into a vampire and killed Robin to take way the monster's leverage. Skill and rationality does not necessarily make for a great hunter. It has to be a balance between knowledge and the heart in order to make the best possible decision under the circumstances. Sam is all about the heart and always listening because he wants to help. SoullessSam has no heart and only listens to figure out how to mathematically come to the best scenario, though without taking in the value of an individual life.
SoullessSam's worst impulse was to tell the truth without softening the blow because he no longer feels the love (or guilt or shame) towards Dean or others. But without emotion, Soulless Sam can't make decisions for himself because all arguments are equal; emotions are the tie breakers. Dean recognizes this when he saw how blindly SoullessSam followed their grandfather's order.  Then Sam left their grandfather to follow Dean even when he knew that Dean's endgoal for him was not in his best interest.
I was sympathetic for SoullessSam because he lived and experienced life, he's a fully sentient being and none of us could really blame him for trying to protect himself from being resouled, as he knew it would mean his death. In the end, Soulless Sam wasn’t evil, he just didn’t care.
Tumblr media
.
Though SoullessSam said he did not love Dean, he still fell right back to the codependency pattern due to a lifetime of being brothers. It was basic Sam actually guiding Soulless Sam, not Dean. Sam has always taken responsibility for his actions (as those of others). Soulless Sam had access to all of Sam's memories, including his "it doesn't matter what you are, it only matters what you do" creed. It would have made sense for SoullessSam to adopt the creed that seems to be the heart of Sam's motivation and used it as his guide. And it can be reasonably argued that Soulless Sam is proof of Sam's inherently goodness. With Sam's memories and skills, SoullessSam could have done whatever he wanted and leave a trail of destructions. Instead he returned to the family business of hunting things and saving lives, despite the flawed execution of it.

Hi,
I see you finished Monster and are quite versed in Johan. Can you help me understand the depth of his character better? I feel like many people miss the point of it. Also I'd like to know why you like him so much.
Oh, there is so much to say about him but i will try to make it short as possible.
Lets Talk About Johan;
Tumblr media
First of all, i heard his character as some 'evil' mastermind so i wasnt really interested in his character until i experience the story by myself. I wondered why this series is popular so i decided to give a chance. I tought Johan was like Afo (from Bnha) but he turn out to be a lot like Shigaraki lol.
What makes a character depth is if they are not one-dimensional, that there is a more than how they seem from surface. And Johan fits well since he is mysterious character who is seen as angel, monster, devil, basically anything but human but they end up failing to understand him because if he was so simple, police would've catch him a long time ago.
At the start of series, he seems like your usual dangerous serial killer which fits the psychological thriller theme of story. And one of the best thing in series is his connection with Tenma. A doctor saves his life and this dangerous killer starts to view him as parent figure. A killer who see no worth in life and the doctor who thinks every life is equal, especially saving Johan is the reason he starts to to be able to live his life as a real doctor. Only to learn the child whom he saved turn out to be serial killer.
Tenma feels responsible for this and goes to journey to kill Johan. During this journey, we aldo discover some hints of what made Johan the way he is. The irony is we get the hints and a lot of characters perspective of him, everyone except Johan.
Tumblr media
Is his messages about 'the monster inside of him' serious or not? Tenma assumes Johan is enjoying this at first, then he assumes Johan has multiple personality disorder. And later when he talked with other doctor, he assumes Johan is just playing with him because thats what most serial killers do with police. This is interesting because all of those end up being wrong. Johan doesnt enjoy from killing people. Johan doesnt have DID. Johan didnt write those messages to play with them. We know this because we later learn that he is unconciously imitate the fairytale stories he read as child.
Meanwhile, he has fanclub. A lot of murderers admire Johan because they view him as destruction Buddha. Just like others, he is seen as monster but why though? Its not like he is the only killer in the world. And personally, a lot of characters are more 'evil' than him so the thing about Johan is; he treats human life as nothing. Not just other people but also himself. Thats what makes him so scary to everyone. He doesnt even do it out of joy, money, statue. He looks like the devil in human form. He spreads misery to world. (Thats why he burns library when they said "its humanity's treasure" LoL.)
To people, that is scary. When they look at Johan, his eyes, the see someone who has no identity (nameless world). They see someone who treats life like as a game. Which explains why many people are afraid of him.
Some also want to use him, such as they want him to make second Hitler and he is like 'Nope'.
Tumblr media
I think the main reason i love Johan is that he is like a magician. He can create a beautifull illusion. He is someone who can touch people's hearths because how well he understands them. Which is why he is seen as angel when people dont know he kills people.
This is also why he can use other killers for himself. He can see their vulnerabilities. Because even a killer is still human and they might need acceptance, to be understood by someone. Johan can give it to them. And they wish they were like Johan because they think everything would be a lot easier for them to kill others, like some kind of edgy teens. They fail to understand the person they want to be is extremely miserable.
On other hand, Johan can use his skills with curing people. Such as him waking Suk's mother, he made her remember her son again. Though he does things with ulterior motives, same skills can be used for good things. He can make people happy or miserable by little things. With a little magic or just skill.
And even though he is villain, he has very relaxing voice. He is very elegant. He listens other people. This fits perfectly well with his manipulative character.
We also never know when he is sincere or not because when you think he doesnt he actually seem to care, such as when he cried for Karl. Apperantly, tears were real. He is always in his world, its so funny when you think about he is some kind of mastermind.
Tumblr media
Also his interaction with kids is so interesting. I think he geniuely enjoys being around them. Otherwise, why would he bother to spend time with them, why would he know so much about child's rights, why would he look for picture book for a friend? This is the same guy who encourage kids to rooftop game (and the scene where he was projecting on Milos) which is messed up. It gives me chills. His nihisilism, him viewing life as game end up resulting him expressing love as twisted.
----
Tumblr media
Later, everything changes when Johan finds certain book in library. Basically, Johan's character doesnt necessarely stay same during the series. He changes his motives from unconciously imitating nameless monster stories to find actual monster who ruined his life. Even though he does messed up things, everything about his character makes sense with that scene. Johan geniuely believed that he is nameless monster. Johan geniuely believed that he doesnt exist.
Everything about him makes sense because it explains why he doesnt think death as much of it. Because if someone doesnt exist, they cant be killed. If someone doesnt exist, they cant be responsible for killings. He is detached from reality. Its not that he didnt feel. Its that he doesnt view it as real the way other people does. Because Johan isnt there. This is the tragedy of Johan's story. He doesnt have name. He doesnt have identity. He feels as he doesnt exist.
Tumblr media
The famous 'monster' tape everyone after is about a child unable to see the difference between fairytale story and reality. 'My name is Johan. My name is Thomas. My name is Hans. My name is Otto.' He is them but he is neither of them. Johan views Anna as his half, as Anna is the real one and he is fake copy. He killed people as child, not because he is evil but because he geniuely thought that monster is coming after them. He cant even separate his own memories from Anna's. He takes all bad memories both to protect Anna and other reason is to become someone. He wanted to have identity, he wanted to live so bad but he didnt have on his own so he took it from others, just like the nameless monster.
This is also why Johan is also affected by Tenma's saving him. He probably wondered Tenma wouldnt save him, if he knew he was monster. He was kinda right because Tenma regretted his decision but he was wrong because Tenma couldnt shoot him and he saved him the second time. He showed him that he has right to live, he has right to exist, and that he has a name so he is not monster. This is why Johan can open up his worst insecurities. And they really give father-son energy and i think thats cute. I am glad that even after years Tenma visists him at hospital.
Tumblr media
And we can guess what happened at the end thanks to Grimmer (one of the characters who deserves better), 'The monster become human at the end'. and Lunge said that if he were not a human being, he would not leave a trace, only humans leave a trace. For the first time we see Johan leave his mark. So Johan is no longer a monster, just a human. Also, his real name doesnt matter, he is Johan to us/all.
I love the messages of story. There is a monster inside all of us, but we can contain/heal it and after all, we are all human, our lives are equally valuable and stealing a person's name is the biggest crime, so having a name is very important. Story still has certain writing issues but generally, it is good story. Johan is well written character because his story is such a journey. We cant even really appreaciate the story without fully understand Johan. Every scene he is in meaningfull. And personally, i think his story is very empathic because of how tragic he is. Also sometimes he looks so funny and weird which makes him entertaining. He is such a good character.
Though you are right, anon. Many people still misinterpret the story, especially his character but anyway, there are still people who makes great analysis about him. Such as this analysis made by @cyanogoth.
Its ironic that most/some main villains have the most interesting and sempathic backstories, even though they are supposed to be 'big evil' or something but in reality, they are not really.
Tumblr media
Anyway, he is fun to think about, i love him, lol.

Hey ho, have you seen The Creator (2023) yet? Unsubtly about US imperialism, but also really moving, aesthetically stunning (Greig Fraser as DP, oh yeah) and John David Washington killing it in the main role. I was surprised by how much there was to love. xoxo
I fucking LOVED The Creator and kept trying to write something about it here but never managed to collect my thoughts. But yeah what a fucking movie, oh my god. I feel like it kind of got buried by lack of publicity but tbh I am not that surprised because it's one of those movies with politics that make you think how the fuck did they get away with making this.
Gareth Edwards, like Villeneuve, is a director I've been paying attention to for a while now, ever since his 2010 movie Monsters, which was a really impressive low-budget sci-fi with effects that just looked seamless and interesting things to say about borders and the human cost of militarized responses to disastrous events.
And then he did Rogue One and pulled off something very impressive, which is to take one of the most famous sci-fi weapons of our era--the Death Star, a metaphor for nuclear weapons so iconic it has become a symbol in itself--and made it actually fucking scary for the first time in the history of the franchise. And he did it by turning the camera around.
Because the thing is that before this point, we had only ever seen the Death Star from the point of view of the people firing it. The idea of a planet-destroying weapon is intellectually horrifying but we didn't really ever feel it. Because for that we need to see the weapon from the point of view of its victims. It's such a simple but radical shift in perspective, and I feel like Gareth Edwards took that idea from Rogue One and then made it into a whole movie with The Creator.
The Creator, for those unfamiliar with the premise, is about a near-future counterinsurgency war in which the US military is hunting down various forms of AI/android/robot beings. It also features a space-based super-weapon that is eerily beautiful but goddamn fucking terrifying. It was mostly shot in southeast Asia and heavily evokes Vietnam War imagery (as the ending of Rogue One did as well); it is probably about as close to "Vietnam War movie but you're rooting for the Vietnamese" as it is possible to make in the American studio system. The protagonist is still an American soldier (who defects and "goes native" fairly early in the movie) but making him a Black disabled veteran was certainly a Choice. And yes it's John David Washington and he's great in it.
It feels facetious to say The Creator is Reverse Terminator, because it's much richer than that, but it's also kind of fucking true. For the entire movie, the characters are just running for their lives from the implacable and overwhelming destructive force of the US military which is just crushing everything in its path.
The movie does a lot of things that you simply do not see in most American war movies, but the one that stands out to me the most is that in every scene of war violence there are civilians, including children, fucking everywhere. It really threw into relief for me how often American war-action movies create these empty video game environments for soldiers to run around in, where any actual people who might live in the place where the war is happening are at best props and at worst completely absent. (Alex Garland's Civil War, in addition to being terrible in every other conceivable way, is a particularly bad offender at this.) The Creator does what really should be the bare minimum of taking time to showing that these are people whose homes and lives are being destroyed and it is shocking how novel it seems. (There's a line that plays in my head all the time where one of the AI characters says something to the effect of, "Do you know what will happen to the humans when we win this war? Nothing. We simply want to live.") I will also say that this made it a very intense watch in late October 2023 in particular, but it is fiction so we get a very satisfying and cathartic ending. And yes it is an absolutely gorgeous movie, the VFX are mind-blowing, and I found it quite moving.

I hate it when a character fucks up so royally that everyone else pays for it, and then neither the character, the narrative, nor anyone else addresses it and nobody blames the said character for it. And the consequences of that action NEVER touch the character responsible for it.
And they took this a step further with Sylvie. SHE blamed Loki?! And Loki apologised to HER?! Why?! What did Loki do? did I miss something?! And then LOKI was the one who kept trying to fix the mess she made and she still had the gall to not look the least bit apologetic or even point out that she was the one who made this mess and instead fought with Loki and blamed him and didn't even do anything to help?!
And she argued that she gave people free choice. Like... my girl... you destroyed people's reality... I guess given the choice people prefer their realities to not be destroyed... preferably. Since that kinda overrides all their other choices.
Sorry, good for you if you like her but imo this is awful character writing.
And talking about Loki cleaning after Sylvie's mess....yeah. no. That's not Loki. Loki is the god of mischief! He doesn't have a side, he doesn't do things because it's the right, honorable thing to do, he switches sides, he plays games, and he's mischievous because he's the god of mischief!
That's the same problem I had with that Wednesday show. 'Cause the very premise of these series is ooc. And they're supposed to be about those beloved characters. Loki is selfish he wouldn't try to be a hero with no prompting (like Thor's life or Asgardian's lives especially being on the line). Wednesday is also selfish and wouldn't try to save the world and wouldn't care about it being in danger plus the thing about Wednesday and the whole Addams family is that the opposite of what people consider bad is good for them and what people consider good is bad for them. Monsters, Destruction, bringing destruction, and being a bad omen are all good things to them.
And that's why they work so great as side characters. 'Cause Loki plays games, is charming & funny, and comically selfish until right where it matters and that's where he sweeps in to save the day and the surge of excitement and love and affection you get in those moments is exactly because you didn't know he would do it! he's established as a selfish character who you don't expect to help but right in the moment of need, he does! If you turn him into an honorable hero who just wants to do the right thing & save everyone insistently & is not very mischievous he loses the charm. And he's not the god of mischief. (And no, showing him a video clip of his previous life and changing him forever so you can do what you want to do for the rest of the series with "changed" Loki who is now a hero is super lame)
I was thinking then how do you write a series with the interesting selfish side character as a main role that doesn't involve them being a selfless hero? Until it occurred to me...the myth the legend the best of the best. Emperor's new groove.

Anon who talked about book 7 of TGCF here! I unfortunately will only have book 8 available this February :') once I get my hands on it I will review it here like I did for the last books if you don't mind! Meanwhile, I still have a lot of thoughts on TGCF, and I hope I don't bother you with how long this ask is 😅
I've seen an interpretation online of the bamboo-hat scene in book 6 in which it says that XL would've never ended up as White No-Face's successor even if the bamboo hat guy didn't appear, because it isn't in XL's nature to do something so destructive and evil. Is it bad that I think think this interpretation diminishes the impact the bamboo-hat scene has for me? Because to me what made that scene so great was the fact that kindness was indeed able to change someone at their worst and by consequence bring out their best self. Hell, what makes the conflict between JW and XL so interesting to me is because XL could've indeed become like him had he not received kindness in his darkest moments, and by consequence JW could've been like XL under the right circumstances. "XL is just naturally gooder™ than JW" is not exactly an interpretation I like, and I think it may even contradict the message of other character arcs in the story as well. HC was saved by the kindness he received from XL, and thus became devoted to him. When HX chose his revenge over his friendship with SQX, it didn't satisfy him, and it even made him more miserable, as he lost his only friend in the process. Guzi, by loving QR unconditionally and genuinely as his son, ended up bringing up to the surface a side of QR that perhaps not even QR knew he had, and it moved his heart enough that he ended up sacrificing himself to save Guzi in turn. QYZ became attached to YY because he showed him compassion when everyone else dismissed him and thought of him as nothing more than a brute. I could go on and on. In other MXTX's books there's also a big emphasis on the impact kindness and genuine connection can have on people. WWX could've easily become a XY or a JGY had he been raised in different circumstances. Hell, the constrast between Bingmei and Bingge hinges on the fact that Bingmei was shown kindness while Bingge wasn't, and the difference between them is of day and night.
Usually they mention the quote "What matters is 'you' and not the state of you.", and that part where HC knew XL wasn't the one who did the guilded banquet Massacre, but I didn't exactly interpret these quotes to mean that XL is naturally good™ in a way that he's able to do no big evil, but rather that he's naturally good in a sense that evil isn't something natural to him, even if he participates in it, which is a theme that can also be seen in characters like JW, HX and QR, who became who they are due to the circumstances in their life shaping them into who they became. It's even highlighted that QR used to be a shy and sweet kid until his environment raised him into a monster. Evil isn't natural but rather something slowly molded by circumstances is how I interpreted it. And as for the Guilded Massacre, it's more that HC saw XL rejecting cursing Yong'an after the bamboo-hat scene and thus rejecting White No-Face's philosophy precisely because it was proven wrong in his eyes, and therefore it would make no sense for XL to be responsible for the guilded banquet massacre later on.
Of course I could be completely wrong in my interpretation, but this is what I picked up while reading the novel. Maybe it's my bias against the immobility of the self? Once again I'm sorry for the wall of text, it's just that I have a lot of thoughts about the way MXTX's books handle the impact that kindness and connection have on the self. I also really like your theories and interpretations not only on MXTX's novels, but for other works as well (I'll only be able to read the ones on JW next month in order to avoid spoilers unfortunately)!
No, I completely agree with you. Actually, I'd go so far as to say that's misreading the story, and the ending--without spoilers--makes this textually explicit. Like, it literally says, not symbolically but directly, that the point is that Xie Lian could have become just like Jun Wu.
So, they're not just misinterpreting, they're misreading. I'm guessing theses are the same kinds of people who think MDZS's message is WWX=good JGY=bad, honestly, when again that means that you're missing the point of the story. (Good point about Luo Binghe, as well!)
To return to TGCF, Hua Cheng's "what matters is you and not the state of you" has nothing at all to do with Xie Lian being a "good" person. In fact, Hua Cheng is pretty explicitly amoral. He's loyal to Xie Lian because Xie Lian was kind to him and he fell in love with him. It does not matter to him whether Xie Lian does good or does bad; that's the point of Wu Ming. It only matters to him that he is Xie Lian, and Xie Lian told him he mattered and did not deserve to be treated as he was being treated.
Of course, one could counter that love itself is a moral virtue, so thereby it saves Hua Cheng and the whole world, but that's for another time haha.
And, of course, please do continue to share your thoughts!!

Out of morbid curiosity i went to look at the new story in Dislyte with Sachiko and holy shit. Which fucken hack wrote this? I'm not spoiler tagging this cause really, it's not worth the effort.
I kind of???????Man.
It felt like someone read the original story and wrote a petty rewrite that blatantly shows their biases for and against certain characters.
Like the biggest issue was defo the Gaius plot twist he got actually done dirty?? Idk i feel like its a problem with the isekai/transmigration genre as a whole but you don't innovate by subverting subversions. You just end up going back to stereotypes. OG!Gaius was a subversion of the whole "Stoic Highly Decorated Man in Position of Power that doesn't look like he belongs" and then he proves time and time again that he's approachable and loves and cares for people so deeply that he'd maintain an image of himself (his display of medals--that garners negative comments about his character being prideful, mind you) just on the rare occasion that it could provide some comfort to the people he's helping. He lives eVERYDAY, trying to live up to Hannah's memory. This is a man that misses burnt peach pie because his wife made it for him. In the new storyline..he's just a transcendent obsessed, power hungry bastard. None of the character nuance.
And then Abigail and Alexa. I hate that they're not allowed to just be morally grey characters. New update makes them "acceptably" morally grey which IMO just flattens their characters. "Yes, a female character can be morally grey if they are your allies." Like fuck right off lmao. What's that??? The central intrigue of Abigail's personality is her ruthlessness contrasted with her softness for the few (few) people she actually cares about. It's literally her song. Roses in the snow.
And ugh. I hate the new "human"-ist moral of the Unknown Story. The fun part of the original Dislyte story was that people *dont know* what to think about Esper powers. Like Miracles are Dangerous, that's been established. Miramons are unknown beings that tend to cause mayhem and destruction. But on the espers' side? We run the gamut of characters seeing their powers as a source of good-- that because they gained powers they can better help and protect others (Tang Xuan, Li Ling, Ahmed, Bardon etc); to characters that hate their transformation because it turned them into monsters or changed their appearance in such a way to cause them great discomfort and body dysphoria (Nu Xi, Brewster, Heng Yue) and so many more that are ambivalent or have other things to worry about. And the central interest of their humanity *was* that contrast of perspectives. Shadow Decree was interesting as a unit because their mission statement was "Esper Acceptance" and that can mean both "we should understand how espers works so we should research it" to "live and let live" to "Esper Supremacy". Like remember when the story used to show the dichotomy of the glitz and glam of the Esper Union against the backdrop that many common folk and non powerful espers discriminated against Espers? That's the subversion. To flatten the message to "we must save the humans!!" and "esperification unilaterally corrupts and makes people go power hungry" is a 12 year old's idea of writing and nuance because it /ignores/ that people can have different perspectives over the same thing.
And haaaah. Like if anything that dislyte is good at, its in making characters that at least a few people will care about even if theyre mentioned shortly. That's just how strong the personalities are in this game. But it's kind of telling that I've seen no fanart or writing of Sachiko at all. Berenice, for how much I did not vibe with her or care about her in the story is beloved by even more people than I can count. (Also just petty sidenote: when a 'soft' female character gets 'corrupted' by power, and also the trope of female character having to be "saved" by ...getting mcfucken murdered by the masc main character)
But I think it's just sad that they cared so little for the new story that they couldn't even come up with a name for the Miracle. Unknown Miracle? You didn't even want to know your own story, man.

Breaking Bonds Ch. 4
Glossu Rabban "The Beast" Harkonnen x F! Reader
Chapter Summary: While Rabban is in denial, even dangerous foes grow impatient. Warnings: Angst, slight manhandling A/N: I hate this chapter with a passion idk why it was so hard to write for me. I just gave up, here ya go. 😩
Tumblr media
"No one is born evil. People must learn to hate. And if they can do that, then they can also be taught love - for love comes more naturally to the human heart than the opposite."
[Previous Chapter]
Every day is the same here on Giedi Prime - for you at last.
Today would be an exception however, since you had been summoned to an audience with the Baron himself. Suddenly the absence of your husband felt more like a disadvantage than a break...
Rabban was currently far away on Lankiveil, your beloved homeworld. He would never take you with him on these long travels, claiming you'd only be dead weight and an easy target for assassinations.
You presumed it was another form of abuse to keep you separated from what was left of your family, but honestly you were glad - because even though you missed them painfully, you wouldn't want to accompany the Beast tormenting your people.
Dreading the confrontation you hoped that the maids would take their time adorning you, so you could mentally prepare for what's to come.
They dressed you up like a porcelain doll, always in some kind of black attire and with an unnaturally pale shade of makeup - a pathetic attempt at making you blend in with those awful people.
What could the Baron of all people want from someone like you?
This man was an enigma - a macabre personification of greed. He was probably the most ruthless, sick and twisted of all Harkonnens...
...and also the one whose influence turned your husband into the sociopathic killing machine he is now.
Everyone on Lankiveil knew the story about how Rabban became the 'Fist of House Harkonnen': Glossu Rabban was born and partially raised on your homeworld. His mother was a Bene Gesserit and also part of the influental native 'Rabban' family - and yet he shared nothing but disdain for his birthplace.
The former count of your planet, his father and the Baron's brother, was a surprisingly righteous man. He had ruled over Lankiveil with only it's best interest in mind, sparing the populace unnecessary cruelty as long as they'd fulfill their obligations.
Rabban however - as the tales from your elders said - was already born a monster.
Even his own parents, though loving him dearly, started fearing their instable son and his sheer insatiable urge for destruction and violence. And when the time came that he was pronounced 'Nu-Baron', being called to Giedi Prime in order to learn under his uncle's wing, all hope was lost...
...since at his return, Glossu was completely out of control, scarred both mentally and physically.
Only frations of the agony he underwent were whispered on Giedi Prime, what inhumane measurements his uncle had used to scatter Rabban's mind and form a perfectly obedient puppet.
Warped through the time spent under his uncles care, he had forsaken all the teachings his parents had so desperately tried him to embrace.
The list of his crimes exceeds your knowledge and contains basically everything one could imagine. Well, they don't call him Beast for nothing.
It pained you to admit, but despite his atrocious deeds your heart was breaking for your husband - what he could've been, if not for his upbringing.
That made you wonder: Lately, Rabban's behavior had shifted drastically.
Ever since his recovery he seemed to...hesitate. Refrained from laying hands on you or any other ruthless actions. Left you alone most of the time - no, he was actively avoiding you.
Could it be your actions have caused him to have a change of heart, as far as that's possible for someone like him?
Maybe that's just wishful thinking, though - most likely he was just lulling you into a false sense of security to strike soon after.
"One of your maidens has informed me that your monthly bleeding started again."
The Baron's words shook you like a hammer to the forehead, betrayal in your gaze as you locked eyes with the maid that merely did as she was told in order to survive.
Before you could possibly explain yourself, the hideous man would continue his lecture - both irritated and grossed out that he had to bother himself with this matter. "I couldn't care less about the affairs of my nephew's bedroom, but the Order of the Bene Gesserit has started asking questions."
Still kneeling down out of respect - and mainly fear for your life - you wanted to bargain for more time. "M'lord Baron, I-"
A single gesture of his hand cut you off and you immediately complied. It was hard to put into words, but everything about this man made your alarm bells ring. His way of talking was mellow and sophisticated, but he wouldn't even try to hide the malice behind it.
All you could do was hope for his mercy.
"I understand you find my nephew appaling" he explained while loudly chewing his food - talk about disgusting. "But you need to invite him to lay with you for as many times as necessary. Such is your marital duty."
Yes: As long as the Bene Gesserit were expecting you to bear them children, your life would be spared either way.
Not even the Harkonnen would dare to mess with the Order.
"B-But I-I..." So many thoughts were running simultaneously through your mind, but there was no use in explaining your situation. No way he'd take your side - and even if he believed you, the Baron couldn't be trusted. "I understand. Soon, M'lord."
"A doctor will make an appointment with you at the end of this quartal" he informed you, two guards already preparing to guide you back to the chambers. "Shall you not be with child by then, we'll find out if there's an underlying issue...and you know which consequences are tied to it. You may leave."
Still trembling when you arrived at your only safe haven on this planet, your facade immediately dropped as you curled into yourself and submitted to your panic.
Over those past weeks you had desperately offered yourself to Rabban, and every single time he had declined.
The guilt of being responsible for the suffering of countless random women he would rage himself out on instead of you was already crushing enough...
...but now you also had to fear for your own safety, shall you fail to bring forth a heir.
"Have you even stepped outside this room since I left?"
Rabban's greeting cut through the silence long after your breakdown, making you realize just how much time had passed. Sometimes it was hard to tell, on a planet where no sunlight ever hit the surface.
Usually you'd jump at your husband's voice, yet right now you felt almost jubilant being able to settle this issue.
"I rarely leave our home" you admitted shyly, gifting him a welcoming - and almost convincing - smile. "It's unsettling out there, without you at my side."
Indeed, all of those Harkonnen soldiers patroling the hallways painfully reminded you of the war and what it - no, what they made you lose.
Neither the Baron, nor the court or even the servants acknowledged you as one of them. Their aversion due to your heritage was no secret, yet other than subtle looks or whispers they treated you with rather neutral respect.
Your husband was simply too feared even by his own kin, so harming you was out of the question.
All things considered, you held a very high status thanks to your ties to the Beast. It was a luxurious life, at least superficially. And yet excruxiatingly lonely - like a bird in a golden cage.
And still you prefered to isolate yourself, staying in the security of your room to read, thus had even become fluent in their language in no time.
Rabban narrowed his eyes at you, seemingly doubting that statement - to be fair, he was not really the type of person others claimed to feel safe around.
Yet over time you had become at least civil with each other - might even say there was a somewhat mutual understanding.
"Let me help you out of that armor" you offered, realizing he was still in full - bloodied - battlegear. Better try not to think about who those stains belongs to...
Your husband flinched at the sudden invasion of his personal space, yet in the end accepted the gesture without further struggle. He even tried to make himself appear smaller as a sign of goodwill - a sheer impossible task for a man of his calibre.
His eyes would never leave you as you worked on the leather straps of his chest, muscles tensing under your touch. A deep breath escaped his throat, relaxing at the way your scent filled his nostrils, the feeling of your fingers dancing across the fabric and barely ghosting the skin underneath.
Rabban would rather drop dead than to admit it, even to himself - but he missed you dreadfully.
Slowly but steadily he grew fond of the way you were always at his side, indulging in your little acts of kindess despite the circumstances.
You began lingering in the back of his mind, invading his thoughts even when you weren't physically there - like an itch one couldn't quite reach.
No wonder he began killing more frequently, more erratic since you stepped into his life.
It's a need that must be met when the noise in his head becomes too overwhelming, when his muscles itch and his nerves felt like they were struck by lightning.
Holding back his destructive urges for your sake surely went against his nature.
"All done" you cheer clasping your hands together, and Rabban internally whines as your touch leaves him. He never felt like this before - so pathetic and needy.
Why now? And why with you?
You were a plain and inferior creature, there was absolutely nothing special about you at all.
Rabban on the other hand was the member of a main house, feared among the whole known universe. He could quite literally do as he pleased, with everything and everyone he wanted...
...then why was he still drawn to you like a moth to the light?
There is a saying that a person who has nothing to yearn for loses purpose in life - and without purpose, will eventually lose their mind as well.
Harkonnens had become so obscenely rich that their materialistic wealth turned them insane. They indulged in different facets of violent perversion, having compeltely discarded all moral and humanity in their shallow lives.
And yet...
"You got quite comfortable around me, huh?" he remarked, giving it his utmost to remain intimidating but failing miserably.
"Maybe we simply got used to each other" you chuckled bluntly, "Why, is that something bad?"
"No" he crossed his arms and grinned mischievously, "Was thinking of going easier on you anyway. My uncle warned me. He would be furious if you'd take your own life just because I went too overboard."
Oh, so that's the reason.
You felt almost sad that you were proven right: His changed attitude meant nothing - Rabban was still the same, selfish and opportunistic person.
Either way, now was your chance. "Concerning your uncle-"
"Here." It seems he was so deeply buried in thought that he didn't even hear what you've been trying to say.
You almost failed to catch whatever Rabban threw towards your lap, and when you recognized the item you were shocked to say the least. "Where did you-"
"Just take it and let me unwind in peace" he growled, sounding annoyed yet still on edge for your reaction. "It's been a long travel, so be quiet now."
Back during his campaign on Lankiveil, Rabban was desperately trying to distract himself from those nagging thoughts about you. So at some point, he decided to went out for a nightly hunt.
Laying waste to a small village, taking all that's not nailed down. Killing everything that moved, animals and humans alike - at least that was the plan.
When he and his men strolled across the lively market of the town, it fell dead silent. He realized there was some kind of festive going on, and decided if you weren't able to enjoy it then neither of them would...
...yet just when he was about to break hell loose, he spotted a familiar trinket on one of the sale-tables.
It was similar to yours - he accidentally broke the piece during one of his regular anger fits. He remembers your reaction precisely, the way your bottom lip was quivering during your failed attempts to restore it.
The saleslady was quite frightened when he interrogated her, explaining to him that this day was a celebration of Lankiveil's new year - and the trinkets were gifts given to your most beloved as a symbol of your bond.
Your husband took the piece without payment, none of the natives daring to object let alone make any sound. They naively hoped to avoid their doom with this gesture, yet soon after Rabban told the soldiers to wreck the place and treat themselves to whatever. He was almost tempted to spare them, but showing mercy would mean losing face in front of his men.
Rabban himself however wasn't eager to join them anymore.
He thought himselr to be incapable of feeling, that all he was doomed to know were negative emotions.
And on that day he had learned yet another, different form of anger - jealousy.
Neither envy nor greed, just the stinging question why you possessed a neckalce meant for lovers only.
Did you have a lover before you were ripped out of your old life and placed into his?
The Beast watched you without further comment, seemingly indifferent - at least on the outside. You admired the pattern of the jewlery, let your fingers run across the carvings in awe before holding it to your chest, eyes wettening with tears.
His heart drops at the sight - the possibility of his theory being correct.
"Compensation for your old one." Tensed beyong belief, Rabban was pacing on the same spot as if not knowing what to do with himself. "I've learned they mean much to your folk."
"W-Why yes" you stutter, moved by his action but at the same time cautious: You were expecting an ulterior motive, a cruel twist to this gift. Maybe he had plucked it from a corpse of someone you knew, maybe he gave it to you just to smash it again and reenact your misery.
"It belonged to my mother, actually" you eventually opened up, and even though you knew he wouldn't care, having a proper conversation after such a long time of silence sure was enjoyable nonetheless. "My father gave it to her, and she handed it down to me. It was meant as a wedding gift before my department. So I won't forget them, or where I come from."
How ironic, he thought as he felt your confession remove the thorn that was so painfully planted in his chest.
So there was never a lover. It satisfied him, calmed down his racing heart yet only temporarily until you spoke up once again.
"Thank you, Rabban." This was the first time you used his real name instead of his title, and it sounded so smooth with your voice. "I appreciate the sentiment. I'll cherish it!"
Your words make him want to rip out your vocal cords so you lose that bewitching power over him.
Why does he care so much? Why does he - a literal behemoth - feel his knees weaken whenever you gave him the tiniest bit of affection?
The Beast merely harrumphed, tearing himself away from you and that damn smile that's too sweet to be genuine. "I don't care" he lies and hopes you know better than to inquire. "I'll be off-"
"Wait!" Just when you managed to grab the sleeve of his arm, his warrior's instinct caused him to turn around - his fist already in the air, ready to strike.
"...never do that again" he grumbled almost apologetic facing your cowering self, lowering his arm again.
"S-Sorry..." you whimpered, nervously fondling with your hands. "But we-we need to talk. Your uncle said the Bene Gesserit are growing impatient."
"So?" he shrugged, "We're only married for so long. What could they possibly want all of a sudden?"
"They want us to hurry. They want a child." Your husband's eyes widened for a sheer moment, murmuring "Did you tell my uncle?"
"The true reason? The fact that you're withholding from me? No."
"Why?" He gulped several times, but couldn't get that narrowing sensation out of his throat. "There's no need to cover up for me and take the blame."
Seeing a man like the Beast anxious like this made you grow even more worried. Who knows what punishment awaits for those disobeying in the Baron's schemes.
"That's a discrete matter and also none of his concern" you firmly say, taking a more confident stance. "And frankly, with all due respect, but I'd doubt he'll believe me with your kind of...reputation."
Rabban gives a crooked smirk at that jab of yours, but quickly grows serious again. "I'll resolve this, don't worry."
"How? You know there's only one way to do so." Your arms hung loosely, defeated to the sides - and then balled into fists as you accused him: "Or is that what you wsnt, having me rendered useless and disposed of?"
Your husband clenched his jaw, the piercing noise of a cracking teeth filling the room - but nothing else.
"What now, did the great Beast of Lankiveil forget how to talk?" Fury glimmers in his eyes and yet you were unable to hold yourself back, the only thing on your mind being a hopeless future. "I don't understand! Why are you acting this ambiguous? Stop being so cruel and dragging this out, if you want to kill me just do it now!"
With a loud BANG Rabban janked you by the hair and slammed your head onto the nearby tabletop, pressing your cheek onto the wooden surface. He had you bent over, an arm twisted painfully behind your back and the other flailing around to no avail.
"If you insist" His voice was calm, too calm and as unfaltering as his grip. "I can fuck that rebellious spirit out of you until you squeal."
You heared him groan shamelessly, crotch pressing against your behind in this indecent position, your wriggling and writhing only adding to his excitement.
"Then do it." Refusing to cry, you instead pierced him with a look of pure disgust and resentment. "Just get it over with, damn it."
Rabban was taken aback by your bold reaction, certain to have ruined this earlier blissful moment like he would always ruin everything.
"Stop looking at me that way." He shakily breathed out as he turned you around, now lying completely on the table. You felt his harness against your spread legs, about to lose focus as he pulled your hips even closer to his, fingers digging painfully into your thigs.
You wanted to resist, but he easily overpowered you, both hands tightly restrained over your head.
"Stop looking at me like that" he repeats, this time louder. There was something else in his voice other than anger and lust - it was hurt.
"I said STOP!"
When his hands find your throat dissociating became impossible, and your gaze softens with fear. Teardrops run down your cheeks and if it wouldn't be you beneath him, Rabban would certainly be even more turned on.
"P-Please" you choke, clawing at his arms as the lack of oxygen becomes more than a slight discomfort...
...and then, ultimatively, Rabban gave in to his desire.
Your husband's lips crashed over yours, surprisingly gentle yet still demanding as you got trapped in a firm embrace. He moaned - no, whined against your mouth, practically devouring you with this desperate kiss.
His hand ran through your hair, across your cheek to the back of your neck and down your collarbone - pushing you away just when you were about to reciprocate.
The Beast looked devastated, shocked with himself as he stumbled back, looking at you like you were the most dangerous enemy he's ever encountered.
"We'll find a solution" he stammers, already heading for the door. "I'll protect you, I promise by the little honor I have."
What were you even supposed to do, think, feel after this surreal encounter?!
Another one had to take your place tonight - but this time the outcome would be different.
After all, your taste was still lingering on his lips, how he could feel the need between your legs and the way your body melted against his was driving him crazy.
As usual he is overcome with dire ideas as he wallows in the memory of you. How he wants to ruin you, make you beg and moan and cry his name, marked by his blade for everyone to see who you belong to.
In the end however, he comes undone to the mental image of you smiling at him - even though knowing it could never be honest.
"Get the fuck out of my sight." The slave didn't need to be told twice, wouldn't even try to get dressed as she ran for dear life.
Rabban buried his face into his hands, letting out a gutwrenching roar before his fist tore a hole in the next best wall.
Because the true reason he keeps denying you was not because he was afraid for your safety, no - it was because he knew as soon as he'd give himself up to you, it'd mean his imminent defeat.
But his walls were already crumbling, no matter how much he tried to keep it together...
...and as he watches the other woman flee instead of lying dead to his feet, he realizes it's already too late - he was past the point of no return.

MAG 86 here we goooo
Ok so I actually listened to this like a few days ago but I never got round to looking at the transcript but HERE I AM
God this is the blanket never did anything one
He says tucked in so fucking menacingly like Jesus Christ man
TIM MY LOVE
I can't get that one post out of my head that says how Tim was the furthest from being taken by the Eye cause he keeps tripping up on pronunciations and stuff in statements that other archival staff wouldnt honestly it's such a genius take
Oh shit this is getting really long I'll add in a read more
God I love how he's rebelling in every sense, he's doing the bare minimum, he's literally warning people away from it
It's kind of interesting the way he always thought the statement stuff was stupid but in the whole of season one and a lot of season two he managed to hide his distaste pretty well, like even when he lashed out at Jon about the Prentiss incident, he still didn't say that the statements were stupid, but he's saying it behind his back - maybe some part of him knew that Jon needed the statements to work and some part of him still felt for him enough to not point that out
He's kinda dramatic with it as well but I feel like in more of a self aware way than jon
You can feel his distaste honestly the statement just sounds wrong coming from him, which is interesting cause I didn't think that about when Martin did it
So he's mad at the fact that he put effort into a job that he wasn't even that comfortable with in the first place and now he's trapped in? Not about the monsters??
Jesus Christ Tim being a bit of a dick to melanie
HE BLAMES MARTIN????? Damn bro you weren't there how could you tell he didn't do it properly??
I think he's mad at himself for not being there and deflecting it on to martin
She likes that it's quiet!!! That's cute
Martin's not big on change AH neurodivergent vibes
All the archival staff are literally queer and neurodivergent you can't change my mind
Also the fact that he thinks that's the biggest reason why martin doesn't want Melanie around, not the Horrors and the same reason as Tim
I think Tim is refusing to think that Martin might see the situation in the same way as him because if he does then it means Tim's way of dealing might not be the best way and that's an unacceptable thought to him
Suspicious and resentful - my man is self aware I think he knows the way his path is going (hurtling towards destruction) but is too stuck shaking his fist at god to try and get out or he's sort of known his whole life that this is where he was supposed to end up, a terrible fate created by his own two hands that dug their own way down to rock bottom and he's just so tired of trying to do anything about it that he's just accepted it
SASHA OH GOD
Wow seeing firsthand the effects of the stranger, the way neither Tim nor Melanie can remember the real Sasha, but Tim has to live with the fact that he didn't notice and Melanie has to live with the fact that she did, but can't prove it
WHO AM I EVEN SAD FOR
AUGH I THOUGHT SOMEONE MADE THAT UP I DIDNT KNOW IT WAS CANON OH GOD
He lost his FRIEND and he DIDN'T REALISE and he STILL DOESN'T KNOW THE WHOLE TRUTH AUGH
Oh I wonder why he left the tape running? I'd think he would've forgotten to turn it off but if so I feel like he'd have that shocked moment of remembering which he didn't
Maybe he wanted proof of the conversation? Maybe it was a warning to anyone listening to the tapes? See firsthand how terrible it is at the Magnus Institute so you don't work here? I dunno
Ha I had to ask my lovely mutual @melandrops to explain what a marker was
Oh god honestly this statement fucked me up I completely understand why people hate it I hate it
I was so scared of the dark as a kid and the idea of being reduced to that state of lack of awareness and vulnerability is actually terrifying
Also the dude dying in the blanket???? Ew ew ew
Love the fact that tma doesn't just go with a oh shit I forgot a torch so it was pitch black kinda horror but the I brought a torch, I even brought spare batteries but it still did nothing which in my opinion is even scarier
Oh god her whispering the blanket never did anything that was horrifying
Melanie was actually so good at giving the statement girl really got into it
I was also talking to @melandrops about archivist!Melanie cause I think that would be really interesting... she'd definitely bring a more proactive vibe to the role...
It's interesting to think that Melanie and Jon hated each other at first sort of because they're so alike? It's like the we are made of the same stuff (derogatory)
Love how she just checks out the dead guy
The way she's denying it even though she's literally had paranormal experiences before that's so Jon core she would be a great archivist
JON????
Oh shit I just realised he's labelled as Archivist...when did that happen??
That's so funny he's like bitch maybe I do have reason to kill you
Hmm nice touch of Melanie being like do you guys not want me cause I'm a girl?? Is this misogyny??? Good guess but unfortunately it's worse
It's quite nice that Jon's trying to save her even though the meetings about helping him and her quitting would mean he'd lose the one informant he might have in the institute
Shot in the leg by a ghost in India????
Ha Tim hates you and Martin's probably being watched
Love how Tim's hatred for Jon is so visceral and known that they don't even bother watching him
I bet Elias would delight in knowing about Martin's little crush on Jon and how Jon actually hated him in season one and then how their relationship progresses he'd thrive on the drama and the angst the little bastard
Ok ok it's good that he's on the right track, he guesses it was elias
Wait the whole murder was on tape... WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT TAPE??? DID ELIAS TAKE IT??? COULD IT BE USED AS EVIDENCE???
YES MELANIE IS BEING CAUGHT UP (info style) BUT ALSO NO MELANIE IS BEING CAUGHT UP (web style)

* THE MODERN PROMETHEUS. sentence starters from mary shelley's novel, frankenstein ; or, the modern prometheus. from the original manuscript, the original published edition, & the 1831 revision. feel free to change pronouns / terms / tense / etc.
do you understand this feeling ?
I desire the company of someone who could sympathize with me.
I shall do nothing rashly.
remember me with affection, should you never hear from me again.
I will not rashly encounter danger. I will be cool, persevering, & prudent.
will you have the kindness to inform me whither you are bound ?
I have lost everything, & cannot begin life anew.
you may easily perceive, [name], that I have suffered great & unparalleled misfortunes.
with what interest & sympathy shall I read it in some future day !
the world was to me a secret, which I desired to discover.
it was the secrets of heaven & earth that I desired to learn
no youth could have passed more happily than mine.
do not waste your time upon this ; it is sad trash.
I believed myself totally unfitted for the company of strangers.
have you really spent your time in studying such nonsense ?
I am happy to have gained a disciple.
remember, I am not recording the vision of a madman.
a resistless, & almost frantic impulse, urged me forward.
you must pardon me, if I regard any interruption in your correspondence as a proof that your other duties are equally neglected.
how can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe ?
how glad I am to see you !
it gives me the greatest delight to see you.
you look as if you had been watching for several nights.
how ill you are !
what is the cause of all this ?
oh, save me ! save me !
I dare say you wish to be indulged in a little gossip.
are you always to be unhappy ?
my dear friend, what has happened ?
even cato wept over the dead body of his brother.
I am afraid, tears instead of smiles will be your welcome.
I do not know what you mean.
no one believes it, surely ?
did the murderer place it there ?
I cannot go alone.
I did confess, but I confessed a lie.
I hope you do not believe I am guilty.
I cannot live in this world of misery.
Do you think that I do not suffer also?
men appear to me as monsters thirsting for each other’s blood.
I would sacrifice my life for your peace.
devil ! do you dare approach me?
begone, vile insect!
I expected this reception.
all men hate the wretched.
abhorred monster !
be calm ! I entreat you to hear me.
have I not suffered enough?
I do not wish to hate you.
I was benevolent & good ; misery made me a fiend.
make me happy, & I shall again be virtuous.
you, my creator, abhor me ; what hope can I gather from your fellow-creatures, who owe me nothing ?
cursed be the day, abhorred devil, in which you first saw light !
relieve me from the sight of your detested form !
I ought to be thy adam, but I am rather the fallen angel.
I stared back, unable to believe that it was indeed I who was reflected in the mirror.
was I then a monster, a blot upon the earth, from which all men fled, & whom all men disowned ?
cursed creator ! why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust ?
pardon this intrusion, I am a traveler in want of a little rest.
I thank you, & accept your generous offer
at length the thought of you crossed my mind.
to whom could I apply with more fitness than to him who had given me life ?
I do not intend to hurt you.
I am content to reason with you.
if I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear.
I will work at your destruction, nor finish until I desolate your heart, so that you curse the hour of your birth.
this is what it is to live !
where does he now exist ? is this gentle & lovely being lost forever ?
does it now only exist in my memory ?
I could pass my life here.
I had rather be with you.
hasten then, my dear friend, to return, so that I may again feel myself somewhat at home, which I cannot do in your absence.
had I the right, for my own benefit, to inflict this curse upon everlasting generations ?
what is it that you intend ?
do you dare to break your promise ?
I can make you so wretched that the light of day will be hateful to you.
beware ; for I am fearless, & therefore powerful.
I will be with you on your wedding night.
villain ! before you sign my death-warrant, be sure that you are yourself safe.
why do you answer me so roughly ?
why did I not die ?
are you better now ?
I am sorry that I am still alive to feel this misery & horror.
can I do any thing to make you more comfortable ?
on the whole earth there is no comfort which I am capable of receiving.
persecuted & tortured as I am & have been, can death be any evil to me ?
a fatality seems to pursue you.
do you not love another ?
it is your happiness I desire as well as my own.
if I see but one smile on your lips when we meet, I shall need no other happiness.
you are sorrowful, my love.
this night is dreadful, very dreadful.
why did I not then expire ?
I am satisfied, miserable wretch ! you have determined to live, & I am satisfied.
for many months this has been my task.
my reign is not yet over.
learn from my miseries, & do not seek to increase your own.
do you think that I was then dead to agony & remorse ?
you throw a torch into a pile of buildings, & when they are consumed you sit among the ruins, & lament the fall.
but it is even so ; the fallen angel becomes a malignant devil.
you hate me ; but your abhorrence cannot equal that with which I regard myself.
soon, I shall die, & what I now feel will no longer be felt.

Content/trigger warnings: talk of self-destructive behavior and suicide.
Does anyone else find the changes in Jonathan … worrying? I think that promise to not tell Mina anything about the case is part of the reason. He can’t vent to her, she can’t encourage him to talk, so he’s starting to obsess, and the obsession is getting dragged out by the wait for the Czarina Catherine.
I’ve also been rereading a paragraph from October 3:
“To one thing I have made up my mind: if we find out that Mina must be a vampire in the end, then she shall not go into that unknown and terrible land alone. I suppose it is thus that in old times one vampire meant many; just as their hideous bodies could only rest in sacred earth, so the holiest love was the recruiting sergeant for their ghastly ranks.”
At first glance, one might think, “ohhh, that’s so sweet, he loves her so much….” But it’s not sweet. It’s … bad. Yes, he loves her THAT much. So much that if something were to happen to her, he’d let the same thing happen to himself. Vampires aren’t romantic creatures in this novel—they’re demonic, murdering monsters with no identifying behaviors of the person they used to be. The vampires are predators. They go after children, babies, take blood from people against their will, and sometimes enjoy their victims’ pain. Jonathan has seen this firsthand while helpless and in near-paralyzed states, has nearly been a victim of one. He knows all this. And his statement indicates he’ll willingly do that to other innocent people too if Mina turns.
As the vampire isn’t really who they were when alive, it’s not like it’ll be a comfort to each other if they both turn. For all we know, they might not have the same feelings for each other after they’re both vampires. Dracula lost all interest in Lucy once she turned. Jonathan would probably be Mina’s prime target (if she remembers; Lucy didn’t go after Arthur until he was in front of her, then she threw the child to the ground; and we knew how much he meant to her when she was alive). Harker didn’t promise to stake Mina either, so … he’d just let it happen.
Take out the word “vampire” and put in the word “zombie” or “ghoul”. It’ll amount to the same thing. She’ll bite him, he’ll turn … and then they’ll each hunt for more victims. Maybe together, maybe apart. It won’t be THEM anymore. His entries essentially say, “vampires can increase their numbers by going after their loved ones … fine. I’ll join them if it comes to that.” Become a “Devil of the Pit” like all of them. A “Thing,” as Seward called the vampire that had been Lucy.
So … to me, it sounds more like a suicide promise. He wouldn’t make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone else … he’d just follow suit. Because everything else in the world? It’s not even secondary; it’s inconsequential. Mina dies or turns, he’s not going to allow himself the chance to recover. Hell, if he sticks true to his vow, he might turn on the other guys to prevent them from staking her. And that would be against Mina’s dying wish.
Preferably, he wants the Count dead and out of their lives. Then … well, he’s not thinking about afterwards, because there might not be one.
Looking at his October 4 entry and comparing it to his behavior now, there’s clear deterioration in his psyche:
“For my own part, now that his horrible danger is not face to face with us, it seems almost impossible to believe in it. Even my own terrible experiences in Castle Dracula seem like a long-forgotten dream. Here in the crisp autumn air in the bright sunlight—
Alas! how can I disbelieve! In the midst of my thought my eye fell on the red scar on my poor darling’s white forehead. Whilst that lasts, there can be no disbelief. And afterwards the very memory of it will keep faith crystal clear. Mina and I fear to be idle, so we have been over all the diaries again and again. Somehow, although the reality seems greater each time, the pain and the fear seem less. There is something of a guiding purpose manifest throughout, which is comforting. Mina says they perhaps we are the instruments of ultimate good. It may be! I shall try to think as she does. We have never spoken to each other yet of the future….”
Since then, the very next day in fact, Mina made Jonathan promise to keep her ignorant of the plans to take out the Count.
“‘I promise!’ and as I said it, I felt that from that instant a door had been shut between us.”
Then a few days later, she asked for the assurance that she be taken down should she become a danger to anyone. Harker couldn’t promise that. But he did consent to read her the burial service. And if that fucked up Jack as we heard on the phonograph, what must that have been like for him? But even though she’s not technically dead, they’re keeping distance between them, so … he’s not doing well. His entries after the burial service have some cynical humor in them. Jack said today that Harker’s hands were like ice while they’re all just waiting for news, and he’s sharpening his blade “which he now always carries with him.”
None of these are good signs. The only future he’s thinking of at this point is the Count’s destruction, so that’s what’s defining him now.
Count Dracula may be a ways away, but he’s caused a psychic drain to happen to Harker. Again. And this time, Mina can’t help bring him back to health. He can’t open up to her, and she can’t get herself involved. They can’t balance each other or work together like they’re used to. All they can do … is just see each other. And hurt. And Jonathan’s best outlet right now is sharpening that damn knife.

Tumblr media
The sun had just set and you knew you had roughly 10 hours before you had to leave to face both Eren and Zeke, who had full control of the Titans on the island and were leading them down a path of destruction.
You stood outside your tent as you took off your cloak. As your eyes traced over the symbol of the Scouts that was supposed to symbolize the wings of freedom, you felt your breath hitch. Nearly everyone that you had met when you first got initiated into the Scouts all those years ago was gone. It was now literally only you, Hange, and Levi—maybe even less after the battle the following day.
The odds were overwhelmingly against you. The enemy had the ability to transform into deadly Titans. Your ranks have been devastated by just Zeke alone and now you were going to face off against both Zeke and Eren with minimal forces.
Levi was an Ackerman that had a stupid amount of strength when it came to combat. While you could not be fairly compared to Humanity's Strongest Soldier™, you were also a formidable force on the battlefield. However, those factors paled when it came to the Jaeger brothers. Zeke alone, even while injured, brought both of you to the brink of death through a cleverly set trap. If the cards hadn't lined up correctly, both you and Levi would be dead.
A part of you did wish that you had just died so that you could join your fallen comrades, but you knew how much that would destroy Levi.
With a solemn look on your face, you gently undid the buckles around your waist that held your mobility gear in place. As you raised your arms off to pull the harness over your head, you felt a sharp pain on your upper right side and let go of the harness as you lowered your arm, letting out a soft groan of pain.
You took a deep breath as you prepared to lift your harness over your head again.
However, before you were even able to exert any force to lift it, you felt someone walk up behind you and the harness was gently raised off of you. You glanced back and saw that Levi had noticed you struggling and came over to help.
“How’s your wound?” he asked quietly.
"I feel pathetic," you whispered without answering his question, watching as he set your gear down next to your tent. “How the hell am I supposed to fight those two monsters if I can’t even take my own gear off?”
Levi remained quiet as you spoke, lifting up your right arm to check on your bandaging. Seeing that it was starting to come undone, he gently nudged you towards his own tent.
“Come, I’ll swap out your gauze.”
~~~~~
You sat on the floor of Levi's tent with your arm raised, staring at the door with a blank expression as he unwrapped the old bandaging and began replacing it with new ones. You frowned as you saw the fresh blood that had begun to stain the old set of bandages. Levi had said that your bandages were becoming undone, but it seems that the wound had started bleeding again as well.
You looked over at him, grief entering your heart as you thought about what the most likely outcome was for tomorrow's battle that was rapidly approaching.
Once he was done, you both got out of his tent and saw that the majority of the remaining Scouts had gone to sleep in their individual tents. You turned towards him without quite making eye contact and spoke quietly.
“Big day tomorrow.”
"Yeah?" he replied, matching your volume.
"We might not survive this battle," you said with your voice devoid of emotion.
“I know.”
“He already fucked us both over when we least expected it. We should be prepared for anything.”
"I know," he repeated. He knew what you were trying to say. He knew about the thoughts that were running through your mind about not surviving the upcoming battle.
You sighed tiredly as you began to turn and leave for your own tent, unsure if you were going to be able to get any sleep.
"Wait," Levi said before placing his hand on your arm to keep you from turning further. His voice was so quiet it was barely audible.
You stopped turning, but frowned.
“You going to take me off the mission again?”
“No,” he said before pausing, as if he was thinking about how to choose his words carefully.
As you watched him, you realized you knew where his train of thought was going. You felt your heart pounding harder and harder as you slowly looked up at him, staring right into his steel blue eyes.
It was agonizing for the both of you to stand there, wondering what the others' next move was going to be. You both knew what you wanted, and what the other other was offering. You've known it for years at this point. You knew when you brought it up the night before the battle of Shiganshina. You knew when you brought it up at your camp a few weeks ago before Zeke got away. You've known, but by the time you were ready to address it, disaster had struck and you ran out of time.
As a result, Levi felt incredibly pressured on this final night before a big battle. You both had a very close call where you lost nearly everything. It was a miracle that you were still alive.
Before you could think of a proper response, he pulled you into a gentle kiss, relief soaring through his body as he felt you relax into him. He knew why he had latched so hard onto the idea of protecting you. He knew why his mind became murky and cloudy upon the idea of you being in danger. He knew why he was absolutely devastated when he saw your state after the explosion. He had loved you all along, but was too scared to acknowledge it.
You stood there for a few seconds before he slowly pulled away, resting his forehead on yours.
“Keep this between us,” he whispered. “And don’t-”
“-die on me, you idiot.”
You finished his sentence for him with a small smirk before pulling back and looking up at him. He had noticed that you were slightly blushing and he found himself in one of the rare instances in which he was smiling and sustaining it for more than 5 seconds.
“I’ll see you tomorrow…Levi.”
You shot him another smile as you said his name.
He felt his own smile fade away as you shuffled around, preparing to turn and walk away. His grip on you tightened a bit, signaling you to stop turning. The idea of being away from you placed a strong pressure on his chest that was making it hard for him to breathe properly.
“Stay with me tonight.”
"Hmm?" you said quietly, looking up into his eyes again.
“If we might not live to see tomorrow, then stay with me tonight.”
Your gaze softened as he spoke.
“What happened to keeping this between us?”
"I'm sure I'll think of something," he said as he gently nudged you and you both walked back into his tent.
You were both short enough to be able to fully stand even inside the tent. For the first time ever since you first met him, you felt nervous around him, suddenly aware of the weight that your words now mean to him. Given Levi's past, you recognized that it likely took every ounce of strength he had in him to make that first move.
You saw him begin to take off his own mobility gear and you slowly moved your arm up and down to try to ease the newly wrapped bandages in.
He noticed your movements and walked over to you, gently placing his hands on your shoulders and turning you around to face him.
"Don’t move around too much or it’ll open again. We’re going to run out of bandages eventually."
"Well, I'm not going to be able to sit still while in battle, am I?"
He gave you an exasperated look.
"At least make it so that you don't bleed out in your sleep. You'll stain the sleeping bag."
You had to stifle a chuckle at his comment. Even in this very post-apocalyptic scenario in which you were surrounded by death and destruction, Levi Ackermann was still a neat freak.
"You know, I'm surprised you're even okay with a sleeping bag, given how dirty it can get sleeping on the ground," you teased, a playful grin showing on your face.
"I'm not, but it's not like we have much of a choice."
Just as you were about to retort with some ridiculous, unrealistic method to maintain his need to be clean despite being in the middle of the woods, he had pulled you into another kiss, although you weren't sure if it was just his way of shutting you up.
Regardless, you didn't mind. You shut your eyes as you pressed your body up against him.
Even if you might not survive to see the day after, even if disaster continued to strike, even if you might never see him again, you acknowledged that you at least had him here now—embracing you and loving you like nothing else existed except for the two of you in this very moment.
A/N: yes you can probably tell they're going to do the naughty but it's sweet uwu-vibes naughty
I voted for Bro in the “who is the worst poll” because I assumed it is who is the worst “person” not who is the worst character or who is the character we hate the most (I can’t stand Cronus or Calliope. If you would have put Ult. calliope I would have jumped on that shit.) I voted Bro because of things Dave said throughout the story. One being Dave seems too into incest.
And there was something Dave said during Act 6 to Dirk directly. One of them being the “he shouldn’t have been around children” line. Then they added to the epilogue that Dave had respect that Dirk choose to end his life because Dave saw it as Dirk not wanting to be the person Dave warned him he could become and John undoing that choice would deny Dirk “his personal autonomy.” Even though I mostly ignore what the epilogue chose to do, I still think it had some relation to the original story. There’s even more things in the story that make me think Dirk is a predator too but I don’t want to draw this out any more. I still think it’s a strong possibility (I’m like 80-90% sure of this) that part of the story is that Bro diddled Dave before he turned 13.
Interesting. People had always thought of Bro to be a pedo. There's even an implication he had used Dave in smut filming with his puppets. Nobody ever thinks Dirk would have much predator traits. Probably because he is the same age as Jake and the others. At best, his actions at best seem more destructive (fitting for the Prince of Heart) than predatory. Some may think Lil HAL fits more in line with the predatory nature since the AI was also there to help execute and orchestrate the plans, even behind Dirk's own back. Would have love to put in Calliope or Ultimate Calliope, but I doubt she would get any decent amount of high votes considering the fanbase still believes she reps the "good fandom". Some even don't mind Ult Calliope taking over Jade's body. That's how much they hate Jade in general too. So then, may I ask this question. Why did Bro slice the meteor in half to save Dave when he needed to enter the game? Was it really just a moment in the flash to make him look cool? To save himself? Would Dave have entered the game after the egg breaks when the meteor struck?
Tumblr media
Secondly, how did Davesprite escaped from Jack Noir after Bec got prototyped? Bro got killed by Jack after said prototype. Davesprite got wounded, but managed to escape. How? The likely answer was that Bro was able to protect him, even if Davesprite had sustained injuries. Which follows up on this.... Why? Why did he save Davesprite? What reason did he have to if he's not technically his brother from this timeline? And if one says that Davesprite ran away after getting hurt to leave Bro behind, why isn't cowardice or something like vengeance mentioned from Davesprite in the narrative by the time he joins with John and Dave in the ship? There nothing that hints of this even with Davepetasprite^2. Remember. Everything from Act 1 to Act 5 pre-Cascade, happened all the same. From John not getting the other present in Dad's car, Vriska creating the inevitable Jack Noir, Dad and Mom still dying, Murderstuck... everything still happened the same in both pre and Post Retcon. So Bro doing stuff like slicing the meteor and fighting Jack happened regardless of Retcon. Some also see Dave being a bit unfair towards Dirk when they meet during that speech. Dave is basically telling Dirk that it is likely every version of his Bro would become a bad person no matter what. That even if he and Bro are offshoots from each other, a version of Dirk will become that monster. He does not know what life Dirk had trying to grow up alone and trying to base Alpha Bros' actions and personality through the ironic movies. We barely even know if Alpha Bro himself was a good person too. Alpha Bro knew about The Condesce's plans and actions to take over the world. But all that guy did was make movies with subliminal messages saying how bad Betty Crocker, made money off it, and then when shit really hit the fan, he finally decided to join with Alpha Rose Mom to kill ICP and then dying To Condesce. Doesn't it question on why didn't Alpha Dave Bro kill The Condesce sooner since people on Earth had already adored him for his movies? Was there reasons for him not being able to approach Sea Hitler as she is, even with his own training to be as stealthy and fast like how Bro was? It's not like The Condesce can mind control humans. It has been shown and stated that even something like Vriska's powers, she can't control humans. Was part of him making so much money was to secure Dirk a good living condition since he would be rich? That can't be because the world has gone to shit and Dirk had to defend himself from The Condesce's army. Maybe it's because I am on the side that doesn't think Bro was that much of an abuser and that anything within Act 6, especially by Post Retcon, is shit that I cannot take seriously. But it still makes me wonder about Bro's last appearance in the timeline as well as what Alpha Dave was like past his achievements and demise. And if Dave really need to go on like that to Dirk.
Hi!
Ur sebaciel fic is such a good read, and there's relationship is explored in such detail.
When looking at their relationship, I think of how different yet similar they are and how they are learning from each other. If they had met each other previously I think they would be disgusting with one another. Ciel would be his innocent, naive self and Sebastian would be a regular terrible demon.
I think Sebastian still is evil and terrible, he is a demon ofc. However, we see Ciel is not put off by that as he found the plague incident funny. However, I think Ciels perception of Sebastian is still misconveived, just like many readers when we see him being a charming butler. I think if Ciel knew that he enjoyed watching him be tortured and assaulted, he wouldn't be able to look past that. Ofc sebastian doesn't enjoy it anymore as u mentioned, but I think that he still is an awful person, who could enjoy seeing a child violated and tortured? I think Ciel needs a reality check tbh.
I think if Ciel were to know the depths of Sebastians evilness, he would not be so trusting of him, and I think Sebastian is aware of this. I know Ciel has a dark side to him, but under no circumstances is it comparable to that of Sebastian, and he can only relate to him so much. However I think this is good character development for Sebastian since he will learn how to be less evil I guess, at least in front of Ciel.
Is there anything Sebastian won't do or lines he wont cross? Or is he just a immoral, evil, demon? I kind of like the latter more, it makes his progression more impactful.
Thank u if u read and respond 🥰 ik it's long rambling
Hello! Thank you so much, I'm glad you've been enjoying this twisted story!
Your question is very interesting. On the one hand, I think there are no lines Sebastian wouldn't cross as a demon. He has no morality, he thrives on darkness, pain and suffering as it's in his nature. On the other hand, he does seem to have some principles, which distinguishes him from other demons. For example, he's genuinely distraught when he fails at his duties. He is authentically respectful to Elizabeth and some other characters sometimes, and like he himself admitted in the anime, he grew tired of mindless destruction a while ago. If Sebastian has to torture and murder a child, he will do it without blinking, but he won't go out of his way to do it just for the sake of it. He finds the concept of pure evil boring, and this gives him depth.
In the context of his relationship with Ciel, I think Sebastian becomes even more interesting. Now it's not only about his instincts, it's also about meeting the needs of a person he cares about. I was recently discussing one of my favorite ships, Buffy/Spike, and what I said about them fully coincides with how I see Sebastian/Ciel: when it comes to love, Sebastian is a morality chameleon. He'll be as good or as evil as his beloved wants. If Ciel goes full-on villain who plots the destruction of the world, Sebastian will help him. If Ciel decides they'll be the saviors of every miserable person, Sebastian will follow him into this with no questions. Naturally, his own nature will shine through occasionally, but it'll be pretty tame, and most importantly, he won't mind. He'll be happy to do what Ciel wants (But Ciel will also never expect him to turn into the opposite version of himself - they are drawn together for a reason, after all).
Right now, Sebastian has an instinctive understanding of what Ciel finds acceptable, and his feelings have affected some of his perceptions of violence. The Sebastian who watched Ciel being tortured and violated with pleasure no longer exists: if he was in a similar situation now, watching some other child, he'd either feel indifferent or maybe even interfere because he'd immediately associate the victim with Ciel.
Regarding Ciel, I think he knows very well that Sebastian is a complete monster, but because of how Sebastian acts with him, Ciel's perception is indeed altered. The important thing is that he knows it - he even acknowledges it sometimes. He realizes that he's biased and that he's too used to Sebastian being his, which is one of the reasons why he usually doesn't want to know the details of his past life. Ciel would be shaken if he witnessed some of the grotesque acts of violence and pleasure Sebastian engaged in before, but it wouldn't change much in the long run. Ciel knows he shouldn't trust him, but his feelings are stronger - he's in too deep now.
I think Ciel and Sebastian could still grow interested in each other if they met earlier, at least in my story. The anime likely wanted to present the pre-fire Ciel as a totally innocent angelic boy: in this case, yes, he and Sebastian would be disgusted with each other. But I have a head-canon of Ciel always having some traces of darkness (hence the story of him almost getting Edward killed), and if Sebastian noticed him, he could be curious; he'd be intrigued by Ciel's potential, his cunning and his creative mind. Ciel would experience natural curiosity toward him, and who knows, they might have become some semblance of weird friends! Sebastian was an oddball even before they met, so this could be an interesting experience for him.
Yandere Venom (2/2)
Tumblr media
Word count ; 3.7k
*Check out the bio to see my new update schedule! I want to prioritize commissions from my kind supporters. Check out commission in my master list if you're interested!
Tate and I pulled one another to the side, nearby the kids but also close to our car. Only as the superhero swooped into action did the other reinforcements arrive, but Venom had other plans for that. The monster slid to the ground and tore the fire hydrant from the ground. As water spewed, it was as though the alien absorbed it into his skin.
I could see half of Eddie’s face through it all. He turned back toward the building and the water started spewing from the black slime. More screams sounded from the corridors inside, and the creature seemed to pick that up. Letting the fire fighters start doing things, Venom crashed through one of the windows on the third floor. He disappeared inside, although the racing footsteps could still be heard.
A few minutes and many people’s phone storage later, the creature emerged. Venom let out a haughty laugh, seemingly engaged in casual conversation with Eddie. In several arms, he held an old woman with a broken leg, a hospitalized old man, and a young person with an IV bag. Venom emerged from the building, leaping from the fire, and people made way.
 News reporters were already attempting to swarm the man slash alien. However, he set the people down, tongue swiping over the bottom row of fangs. They then turned and jumped right back into action, disappearing into the building. Half of the fire was extinguished and smoke bloomed even higher.
Me and Tate watched the scene in awe. As I saw how Venom was capable of so much good, it almost swept what happened last night from my mind. But I remembered how desperate Eddie was. And the symbiote clearly took his side just as much.
It was almost frightening.
“Hey, Tate,” I muttered,” do you kinda have the afternoon off? We can go get some lunch once the parking lot clears up. You must be stressed.”
“Not at all,” she chirped. “But I’d love that, babe. We should get the usual. Our favorite steak place.”
“Yeah. Our favorite steak place.”
The man was on my mind and I thought to how Eddie’s ‘our place’ was a local - and quite shady - pizza place. He insisted on only that and nothing different. He stuck us in a bubble and settled only for that. Our ‘dates’ ended up going the same. Going to Marzanno’s, ordering the large pepperoni just for me to eat none of it and order a salad, and then him ranting about the latest political misdemeanor. He cared a lot about politics and justice. But when it reached the point that it took up every inch of our relationship, it became too much.
I was far happier now. And, clearly, Eddie wasn’t doing too bad for himself, either. What, with saving the world from imminent destruction and all that.
People were clapping and cheering as the fire was subdued. Venom, having done his part, removed himself from the wreckage. It was odd to witness the transformation from a bulky slime monster to a far more petite young man styling a dad bod. He met the news reporters sheepishly, and despite working in journalism, he was clearly uncomfortable.
He shoved through the crowd of microphones the best he could, maneuvering his way through. People were being led from the wrecked building, although the majority of the hospital was still perfectly alright for the time being. The panic was no less subdued, though.
I rounded the car to the driver’s seat while Tate was answering texts on her phone. The donuts inside the car were greatly melted in the box without a doubt. Just as I was opening the car door, someone smashed into me, muttering a manic apology.
I turned to meet the person, only to recognize that it was Eddie, sweating like a pig. His eyes widened in realization, and I immediately assumed he was just trying escape the chaos like we were. Tate looked up fro her phone, also caught off guard.
“Oh - hey, Y/n, great to see ya. Um, I was just squeezing by, sorry —“
“Hey, you’re Eddie, right?” I groaned internally as Tate greeted him politely.Of course she would. She was just a friendly person. “It’s really cool what you did there.”
Eddie froze in place, eyes widening. He scratched the back of his neck, exchanging glances between the pair. “Ah, just a day’s work. Y - you’re the fiancé, right? A nurse?”
“E.R. surgeon!” Tate exclaimed, puffing out her chest. “You know, you look pretty tired out. We were just heading out to our favorite steak shop. Just for saving some of the patients, if you’re interested, you can tag along.”
A charismatic - but still dreadfully awkward - grin tugged Eddie’s lips. He glanced unsurely at me, who had been silent for the entire encounter. He pursed his lips. “I mean, only if I’m not intruding on a date. I mean, I am pretty hungry since I’m feeding for two, but…”
“You’re pregnant now, too?” I quipped, trying to be as not -asshole-y as possible.
Eddie laughed, although it sounded morphed, as though it were two voices at once. “Nice one.”
“Join us, Ed! Nothing wrong with some extra company.”
Eddie prodded,” Y/n?”
“Uh, yeah. I guess it’s fine if you tag along.”
And so, it was decided. Eddie hopped into the back of the car and we were off. The restaurant was emptier than usual, probably because it was a working late afternoon. We got our usual booth, and it was odd being accompanied by my ex, who sat across from the both of us.
He looked so foreign. And from how he was looking at the menu, he thought it was all foreign here, too. It made me wonder if he’d had steak before, but I didn’t bring it up. Tate was too busy carrying the conversation. She treated Eddie like a celebrity, and it made me want to do the same.
“…Have you ever eaten here before? It’s our favorite. The service is impeccable.”
Eddie grinned, clearly still on edge. “No, uh, I’ve never really eaten at one of these fancy restaurants. I’m sure Y/n can tell ya all about it, but the local pizza joint is more my style. The one time I set up a reservation for one of these places, my date bailed.”
“Hard to believe with all the fame you’ve acquired,” Tate gasped, setting her fork down on her empty place.
Eddie scratched the back of his neck, also done with his food. Apparently, the superhero profession didn’t pay well, because he only ordered a salad. I was about done, taking my final bite. I was grateful that my existence was obsolete, except for the occasional glances Eddie would send my way.
He insisted,” Well, uh, that was before Venom showed up.”
“Does the alien speak?”
Tate’s question was immediately answered as black ink flew from the shirt, forming the floating head. He was grinning, yellow eye gleaming. Tate covered her mouth in awe, but I was more so terrified. The ‘alien,’ as Tate put it, was rather unpredictable.
“Alien,” Venom huffed. “I prefer the term ‘symbiote,’ thank you very much. And yes, I can speak.”
“O - oh!” Tate squeaked. “I’m sorry —“
“You should be —“
“Venom, down boy,” Eddie groaned. “You’re literally from another planet. By textbook definition, you’re an alien —“
“No, Eddie. I’m just an extension of you now —“
They bickered, both overpowering one another. That is, until Eddie swatted at the beast. Both went quiet, realizing that we were staring at them. Perhaps Venom was just the devil on Eddie’s shoulder. Not an extension of his wants and desires.
The monster itself was terrifying, but at least that meant Eddie was fairly harmless. Eddie grinned awkwardly, and Venom just laughed lowly in amusement. He peered around the restaurant, spotting the many phones glued to them.
“I - I guess we’re finished here,” Tate tittered,” but let me cover the bill. Uh, actually, our wedding is next week. If you’re interested, you can come.”
I could tell from the look in Eddie’s eyes that nothing pained him more to hear. I was also just as shocked by her decision, but as I looked at the floating head, I realized - regardless of the fact that he was my ex - it would be pretty cool to have the first historic alien wedding guest.
Eddie and Venom turned to stare at each other before meeting her gaze again. For the first time, I saw Venom’s grin falter, and anxiety coursed through my veins. And then, Eddie nodded, forcing a grin.
“Uh, yeah. Sure. Give me the time and place and we’ll be there.”
~~~
I sucked in a breath as I readjusted my suit in the mirror. The moment I walked out, all eyes would be on me. I’d have to greet guests with my extra time, but all my thoughts turned to Tate. How beautiful she would look while gliding down the aisle in a dress I had yet to see. The music would swell, heat would rise to my cheeks, and I would be too enamored with her to care about what the priest was saying.
I huffed one last time before exiting the changing room into the main church area. I walked onto the pew, quickly greeting my closest friends that would stand beside me while taking my vows. I saw my family, already teary-eyed and emotional, waving to me. I saw my future wife’s friends and family, too, just as happy that she settled down with someone they approved of.
Everything was perfect. And, as I scanned the cloud, Eddie Brock was nowhere in sight. He’d flaked, just as I hoped he would’ve. He had a habit of doing so in the past, and clearly, that hadn’t rubbed off.
I refused to let my thoughts turn to him, though. Instead, I beamed, situating myself up front. I was about to say hi to my family, but all at once, the organist started playing. I stood stock straight, facing the aisle. A gentle smile tugged at my lips as I clasped my hands together.
And then, loudly, I heard footsteps thudding down the corridor. Some gaps rang out and I furrowed my brows in sheer confusion. I thought that maybe Tate was just that excited. But I was quick to realize that the person who rounded the corner was the person who I didn’t want at my wedding. Eddie Brock, dolled up in a suit, dashed in and froze on the spot in the doorway.
Horror dawned his expression. There wasn’t a trace of joy in his eyes. He held up his hands as people glared, side-stepping to one of the empty seats. “Sorry! Sorry.”
I decided it was best to ignore it. My eyes flitted back to the entrance. The music swelled, just as I anticipated. And then, Tate rounded the corner. She adorned a large gown and a veil that hit the floor. Her father was beside her, beaming with joy. My heart melted at the sight and Eddie Brock was all but on my mind.
She made her way to the pew, stepping up. She tripped ever so slightly, causing a ripple of chuckles to escape the guests, me included. Her father bid her a good-bye, and just like that, she was standing before me. We gripped each other’s hands tightly, and I swore I could get lost in her gorgeous eyes.
“Family and friends, we are gathered here today…” the priest began, but his voice was muffled.
I was far too taken by the woman in front of me to care about the priest. I’d memorizes the whole ‘in sickness and in health’ thing. And I hadn’t even come up with a speech. Tate and I rolled differently. She was the planner and I was the one who just went with my gut. And right now, with how deeply my heart exploded for her, I knew I’d have no difficulty expressing my feelings.
“…Y/n L/n, do you take this woman to be your wife?”
I did a dramatic pause for but a second. I was melting before her. She looked so perfect. She was perfect. My mouth opened, and the answer I was to give was unquestionable. Tate was the one, through all that sickness and health, that I wanted to be with.
So, I answered,” I do.”
The priest was about to continue. But then, all of a sudden, gasps tore from the audience. Tate and I, spooked from our trance, peered over. Suddenly, a shout sounded form the back, and dread consumed me.
“Fuck! Venom, don’t!”
My blood ran cold and I grabbed Tate’s hand even tighter. I was about to shout for people to run, but I was too stunned on the spot. There was an explosion of morphing black ink as the seats and guests were thrown back. And, in the wake, was the large, towering alien. There was no Eddie peeking through whatsoever, and the beast stood at least seven feet tall.
It was far more terrifying now that Venom unleashed himself in my own damn wedding.
“Run!” a voice through the crowd broke out. All panic broke loose, and Tate and I had to but exchange glances for her to allow me to start ushering her to the emergency exit in the back. Venom’s low cackle echoed as people made a mad dash to collect their things and run.
The monster suddenly leapt from the chairs. He shot from the ground to the large, ornate chandelier above. It swung violently as Venom’s eyes scanned the crowd. I felt his yellow-slit eyes glued to my form as I pulled Tate with me. She was restrained because of her dress, and a screech escaped her lips.
When I glanced over my shoulder, I realized that the alien didn’t have the seemingly innate grin stretched across his face. It was replan with a toothy frown, and there was something - pun intended - venomous in his gaze. For the first time, I was beginning to wonder if I would meet an untimely demise.
The monster roared and leapt from the chandelier. As he did so, it collapsed completely, crashing into the aisle. It had crushed at least four people, and nothing was more terrifying than to think we were next. Venom hit the ground, but a few feet away, reaching out his arm to swipe at us.
We made it to the door just in time, swinging it open. Chills ran down my spine as the monster bellowed,” Come back, Y/n.”
The ink barely reached the door, but I tugged it shut anyways. Tate was panting, tears sliding down her cheeks. I was too fueled by adrenaline and urgency to be thinking about it all. The only thing I knew was to take my wife and run.
I grabbed her wrist, pulling her so that we could go around the building. The parking lot was a hundred yards away, and it seemed even farther because of the state of emergency we were in. Some of the guests had made it out, but they were still screaming at the top of their lungs. The wedding was in a countryside chapel, and although the scenery was beautiful, nobody was around to help.
Suddenly, a crash sounded from behind us. Tate squealed, tripping over the skirt of her dress, but didn’t fall. We both looked back, not stopping or slowing even slightly. Dust rose from the side of the building and the entire wall had been burst. And, from the destroyed wall, emerged Venom.
And then, as his head turned to search for us, he spotted us. And the frown seemingly vanished, being replaced with something that could only be described as sadistic.
And, now even a moment later, he bounded toward us. His speed, inhuman. His strength, startling. My shoes clacked across the pavement as we arrived at our car. I’d kept it in my suit pocket, struggling to fish it out and press the button. Sweat rolled down my forehead.
From the passenger side, Tate was sobbing her heart out. The car suddenly beeped, and she threw herself inside. I swung the door open, just as Venom came to a screeching halt on the pavement. I was wary as he leapt over the car, seemingly out of sight. People were still screaming in terror, and as I shoved the key in the ignition, I was on the verge of becoming one of those people.
“I’m so sorry, Y/n!” Tate sobbed into her hands, her words hardly comprehensible. “I - if I hadn’t —“
“It’s not your fault,” I panted having the engine start up. But, just as I was about to move the clutch out of park, I was deafened by the high-pitched screech of metal. One hand cupped ear and I peered up. I realized, though, that Venom was peeling back the roof of the car with ease. It curled in its wake, only to reveal the large alien. He left footprints in our car just from standing above it, and he was grinning down at us.
“Y/n, drive!” she shrieked at the top of her lungs.
I hit the reverse. The aliens clearly caught off guard, sliding off. One bulky hand remained, though, grasping onto the metal side. I then freaked, causing him to crash into the side, letting out a grunt of annoyance. I hit the acceleration, but it was clearly all that managed to stun him, because horrifyingly, he pulled himself up.
I hit the breaks again. And yet, that didn’t stop him. Instead, his bulking form towered over the hole. With a grin, he reached in. A scream finally escaped as his hand tore off the seatbelt and captured me in his hold. Tate undid her’s and threw open the door, rolling into the street.
I whimpered, trying to shrink as much as possible. The alien held me up to his face, and I was only two-thirds of his height. He looked me over cautiously, and his eyes narrowed further.
“Now that wasn’t very nice.”
Tate rose to her feet, and Venom’s attention returned to the woman. I struggled, even as more black sludge drifted over my body to trap me further. His slime suddenly shot to from his hand, grabbing Tate. I gasped, releasing undecipherable begs and pleas. However, they fell on deaf ears.
As though she were a sling-shot, the woman was lifted from the ground. She was screaming at the top of her lungs, but it all went silent as Venom tossed her into the air at high speed, only to bring her back to the pavement.
Her body splattered Exploded. I was stunned from the sight, and yet, I couldn’t look away. Tate had been murdered in seconds. The bones fo the corpse were hardly intact, and I wanted to throw up. Just a moment ago, the love of my life had been alive and breathing.
The monster was panting furiously. “Hungry…” he muttered under his breath, before turning his attention to me. “You know, Eddie speaks often about the importance of justice. And I think that was justice.”
“H - how… could you?” I croaked, not able to lit my gas or prevent the stream of hot tears from escaping. “What is wrong with you?”
Venom chuckled, bringing me closer. I had no choice but to stare into the glowing, yellow orbs that struck me with fear. His tongue swiping over his top row of fangs, taking in my terror. He was enjoying every second of it. And, I couldn’t help but wonder, if Eddie had some sort of say in this.
“Says the one that so recklessly tossed Eddie to the curb,” he hummed. “Bit it’s alright. Eddie will be pleased. And I certainly am…”
“Just kill me!”
“Now why would I do that? You’re meant to be with us. It was supposed to be us standing at that alter. And it will be in the future now that we have you for good. There’s no escaping, Y/n. So… don’t even try.”

Mini-AU(s) time!
What would’ve happened if it were one of the other hero’s stones that Big.M decided to keep?
By technicality, he could’ve picked any one of them to use as a weapon for a season. It just so happened that Careful’s stone was the only one left.
So first and foremost, let’s look at our source material!
When Careful’s stone is placed on a machine, it brings it back to life and gives it typically destructive abilities. There’s a trend among the machines; most of them are upset with something, mainly how they were used. Because of that… they all throw tantrums and destroy everything— unless the remote’s controlling them.
Our other four heroes were absolute idiots together. When Careful joined them at the end of season one, the heroes were fascinated by a new face. Technically his love of puzzle cubes stemmed from the gift the others gave him as a sort of "welcome to the group" thing? I think he'd still have the obsession if he were activated with everyone else so that it could still be played off for laughs. Just like Sweet's cooking, Careless's memory, or Smarts superiority complex.
Happy
So starting with our title character, what if his stone was kept? Sweet, Smart, Careless, and Careful’s stones were shot into space and landed on Star so that Doctor could fix them. I’d think that Careful is a bit more open than he’s written because he was born with the others instead of having to integrate a year later. (Side note, would that make Sweet the title character? I don't really know how that order was decided, especially since the earlier seasons- before the order was established- had her and Smart interchange. However, I think Smart would be a funnier main-main character because oh my god he's not wrong.)
So Happy. How would machines brought to life by his stone act? Well they’d still be upset with their lives, but instead of being mad about it, they’d try to fix their problems. This is Happy we’re talking about, though, so they’re destructive by accident.
Now, on the other side, heroes’ dynamic without Happy? Well, we’ve kind of already seen that, but this time we’ve got a much lighter tone. The dynamics they have with each other would be more clearly defined, such as Smart and Careful’s rivalry. I can't get the idea out of my head of Sweet and Careless being geek-out buddies and Smart and Careful's reactions being "...what," and "Just let them do it," respectively.
Last but not least, what happens when he joins them? Happy would be super excited and curious for the first few days. He is super energetic, and I think that would overwhelm our first four for a while. He would definitely be the most angsty about trying to fit in with the others, but he can't, simply because he wasn't born with them.
Sweet
So Sweet. Without her the heroes would be entirely male.
… Yeah anyways
Sweet canonically represents kindness, so how would you turn that into a monster you could fight once an episode? Well, going off her other character traits, she is stubborn and not hard to imagine as a perfectionist. So each machine she'd bring to life would be a bit of a control freak, and it's up to the other heroes to convince them there's more than one solution to each problem.
Now, without Sweet, the other heroes' dynamics would be considerably different. The kiddos would be way more focused on fighting and protecting the city, as Sweet was the one with the most casual hobbies. Biases are something everyone has, so Doctor's trying his best, but I think he would raise the kiddos more like superheroes than children without Sweet to help him realize they're just kids.
Having her join them would be interesting. Again, I really hate the fact she's the only girl on the team, but at this point it's too late to change. I still think Happy would have a harder time adjusting, but Sweet definitely has her own struggles due to her gender. Whispers about her being weaker than the boys would definitely spring up quicker than season six.
Also. Sweet's cooking gag. It was kind of just established that she was horrible in canon, but here, everyone gets a nice slap to the face about how bad it is. However, it's also an opportunity to play it for a little more than comedy. I read somewhere, god knows where, that Sweet loves cooking because she loves the idea of making things for everyone. That's why nobody has the heart to tell her how bad she is; she's just trying to impress them.
Smart
Oh boy. If a machine influenced by Smart was brought to life and given powers, things would work pretty differently. Yes, Careful’s monsters were used to take over the planet, but the monster itself’s goal was simple revenge and distruction. If Smart’s thought they were wronged, their answer would be to make everyone bow down. Much more in line with Big M’s goal of taking over. But even the antagonists would occasionally go “dude, calm down.”
Honestly if the heroes were to be born without Smart I think they’d be less in touch with the planet? Like Smart was the one with all the connections. Sure, Careful has his popularity too, but he doesn’t like it. So the heroes would be a little less aware of what’s going on in the city, and creating a way for the citizens to call for help would probably be developed sooner.
Now, if Smart already has an inflated ego, imagine how much more insufferable he’d be if he had actual reason to believe that. He was born differently, he was special.
Y’know the old argument between the heroes about who was the leader? I just realized that without Smart, exactly 50% of the team would actually want to be lead. Rivalry between Happy and Sweet? Yes please. This would also make Smart fight even harder for that role once he joins because who would be more deserving to lead than the fated one?
Okay but the heroes are probably less willing to put up with all the self-centredness if he weren’t born with them. They’d likely just leave him alone when he starts acting all deluded. You know what that makes him? Lonely.
Careless
Y’know he’d be an interesting one. There’s more loose ideas bouncing around like how his monsters would probably get enraged when they think they’re losing like the second stage of a boss fight. That, and the monsters would be a little more generalized instead of having skill sets specific to them.
It’s funny, even though Careful was born with everyone else here, this world would still make him stick out, since without Careless, he’s the only calm one. Without Careless’s chill and laid back attitude, they would be a lot more hyperactive.
It’s already my headcanon that his memory is caused by the vehicle he bonded with being poorly made, but you know what I haven’t talked about yet? The crack that’s supposed to appear in episode 50. In the canon, it was forgotten and back to normal by the next episode, which is also what I assumed for the other AUs. But what if that crack was the reason Careless didn’t have powers? It doesn’t make sense, lore-wise, for the Energy Stone of tolerance to be powerless. Now, we can get a little more angst about it.
Adjusting to the other heroes would already be challenging, but the memory and lack of superpowers would make it extra hard for Careless, especially now that there is something objectively wrong with him. Here, he would learn to supplement that with mechanical weapons instead of it being automatically established. Sprinkle a little extra bonding with Doctor when he finds out one of the heroes is taking after him. Can’t be all angst now can we
