any thots on shinra and izaya? :3
IM SO SORRY I FORGOT TO ANSWER THIS GJKGD
I wanted to type up this like, long heartfelt post because these two make me insane in the membrane. I love them platonic and romantic both because either way at the core of their relationship there is a tragedy of two people who could've been inseparable, and then separated.
And I think it's a TRAVESTY that they didn't animate the breakdown Izaya had at the thought of Shinra dropping him. It makes the scene where Shinra waxes poetic about Izaya being fragile in the last arc make sense the way it just doesn't in the anime.
I dont think anything speaks on my thoughts better than my Actual thoughts during my last Durarara phase so! Have the raw screenshots :] ft. Friends

What's the worse fashion trend AGSZC followed?
• Shinra had a period where they tried to make Sephiroth (purposely) appealing to teenage girls, but this was unfortunately during Midgar's emo craze. Sephiroth had several photoshoots done where he wore heavy eyeliner. This wasn't sustainable as a daily look because Sephiroth was a developing teenager who ended up sweaty and with raccoon eyes after every assignment.
• The only reason Angeal stopped wearing Hawaiian shirts is because Genesis refused to be seen in public with him.
• Genesis claims to be too original and one-of-a-kind to follow trends. "If anything, I am the trend." Which means that if you mention the deep end of his emo phase—complete with heavy eyeliner to match Sephiroth's at the time—he will deny it.
• ☆ . ° .• °:. *₊ ° . ☆
Zack: Hey, has anyone seen my jorts?
Sephiroth: Genesis found them in your closet, had a nervous breakdown, saged the apartment to, quote, "banish the entity that possessed you to purchase them" and then burned your jorts in a fit of rage.
Zack: .......

Cloud: My ponytail phase is the worst fashion trend I've ever followed.
Zack: You mean the chocobo hair is supposed to be an improvement? Hahaha

-
Rude releases a breath when he sees the door leading to the helipad opening and Hewley and Sephiroth finally exiting. He's not terribly thrilled about having to chauffeur a man so fresh out of metal breakdown - especially with the way Reno is cackling in his earpiece - but at least the man is officially out the building.
Now he just has to get him off it, and they'd be good, the building would be secure.
"Oh man, I am so glad that got caught on video," Reno giggles in his ear. "Nothing against the Professor personally, but hoolyy shit, it was downright poetic."
Rude sighs, watching as Hewley and Sephiroth stop to talk by the door - too far to be heard over the helicopter rotors and too obscured by their positions for accurate lip reading. "Perhaps we should be more concerned with Sephiroth's health."
"The man's walking and talking and brushed off Hewley's offer for a Curaga," Reno says. "If he wants to be bleeding internally, that's his problem - all we need to do is get him out of Midgar."
"And then keep a watch over him in Wutai."
"Yes, and that, but nowhere does it say we need to nurse him into health too," Reno says. "Just get him and Hewley in the air and out of here before Hojo realises he's leaving."
"Hn," Rude answers, not looking away from Hewley and Sephiroth and not relaxing until they finally approach the helicopter and Hewley stoves away their blades.
Rude has seen Sephiroth personally a number of times - they often serve together as bodyguards for the President, Rude sent in by the Turks and Sephiroth called upon by the President, because the SOLDIER looks good in papers. So most of the times Rude has seen him had been him being annoyed, resigned, and bored.
The Sephiroth that awkwardly enters the helicopter looks a little queasy and embarrassed - but also excited.
Hewley hands Sephiroth a headset and pulls another one on himself. "Are you sure you're feeling alright?" He says over the headset.
"I'm fine, Angeal - I promise I don't have internal bleeding," Sephiroth answers, indulgent and looks around. "... There isn't a seatbelt in here, is there?"
"What's a seatbelt? No, never mind," Hewley sighs, sounding a little exasperated. "Sephiroth, you threw up blood! That's not normal."
"Maybe I just bit my tongue and swallowed some blood before, it's fine -"
"Some blood - it was a lot of blood!"
"Barely even a litre -"
"A litre! Of blood! You would've had to have bitten your tongue clean off to swallow that much!"
Sephiroth sighs. "Angeal, I swear I didn't bite my tongue off -"
Well, he sounds fine, Rude decides, and after making sure the helicopter is secure and there's no one else on the pad, he takes off. "Phase two complete," he reports to Reno. "The big guy is off the building."
"Sweet," Reno says. "I'm off then - meet you at the airport."
"Roger that," Rude agrees, bringing the helicopter above the Shinra Building and then turning it towards the airport. Below them the city whirls around, its lights leaving streaks in Rude's vision.
The bickering in the backseat takes a pause as Sephiroth peers outside in apparent amazement. Then Hewley continues to poke and prod at the man, and Rude pretends to tune them out - all the while listening to every word. Mostly it's Sephiroth trying to convince Hewley that he isn't in some kind of acute organ failure or about to hack out a lung. Hewley isn't very convinced.
"You're very nonchalant about this," Hewley says dubiously.
"Trust me, it was bad blood, it's better out than in," Sephiroth answers, craning his neck to look down through the window. "Oh wow…"
"Bad blood. That's what you said to Hojo," Hewley points out. "Like it actually means something. What do you mean by bad blood?"
Sephiroth doesn't answer, pretending to be utterly preoccupied by the view.
Hewley sighs. "Sephiroth, please. I'm really concerned - if there's something wrong, you should tell us -"
That makes the other SOLDIER react. "Oh, please, spare me the power of friendship speech -"
"I absolutely will not," Hewley snorts. "If it's the only thing that gets you to talk about this, I'll even throw in sincere emotions."
Though jokingly said, it seems to be an effective threat, judging by Sephiroth's disgusted expression. "You're an evil man, Angeal."
"Yes, how dare I be worried about my friend, how utterly unforgivable. Now please tell me why you throwing up blood isn't a health concern."
Sephiroth sighs. "I… it's hard to explain."
"Because you don't know."
"No. Because the terminology doesn't exist," Sephiroth mutters and then sighs, looking outside again. "Before I was interrupted, I was attempting to, uh, align my internal energies properly, and repair some of the damage done to my system previously. It's a delicate process and can go horribly wrong if interrupted, which is exactly what happened. As a result of the interruption, my internal system went wildly out of alignment, which caused some issues. I fixed those after, as much as I could, and what I threw up was essentially… waste produced by the progress."
Rude wishes, not for the first time, that there was a way to record stuff said on board a helicopter. Thankfully, judging by Hewley's expression in the mirror, the man doesn't understand what Sephiroth is saying any better than he does.
"Internal energies - you mean your MP?"
"MP," Sephiroth repeats and hums thoughtfully. "That's part of it, I guess."
Hewley shakes his head. "So your… MP is out of alignment?"
He sounds confused, and Rude can't blame the man. He didn't know MP could even have an alignment.
Sephiroth is quiet for a moment, looking away. "Tell me, Angeal. What is MP? Where does it come from, where in your body does it reside  - how is it produced?"
"Uh. It's just an intrinsic quality people have? Which increases the more you use it - and with Mako exposure? I don't know, I guess I never thought about it," Angeal admits. "You'd have better luck asking Genesis."
"Hmm. Is he coming to Wutai?"
Hewley shakes his head. "I don't know, but there's no shortage of missions to be completed there. Still, Sephiroth. That was a lot of blood."
"I'm not throwing up blood now, am I?" Sephiroth says. "I'm fine, Angeal, I promise. Hopefully that was the worst of it."
Hewley doesn't look particularly reassured. "Hopefully?! Wait, you don't mean to say you're going to continue with this… alignment stuff?"
Sephiroth hums noncommittally and looks outside the window again. They're getting to the airport now.
Rude blows out a breath. "It's time to land," he informs his passengers and hopes Reno wouldn't take too long to catch up with them. Maybe he would have some idea what the hell Sephiroth is on about. If not, then he'd at least pretend he did.
Rude is with Hewley on this one, though. Sephiroth intending to continue with his alignment practice with the risk for further… misalignments… It didn't sound good.
Interesting though that Professor Hojo clearly had no idea what his son was doing either. Whatever it is, it isn't anything Shinra Science had figured out. Hmm.
Something to add to Sephiroth's file, Rude muses, and brings them to the ground.

Anytime, Anywhere Part Two (Feat. Rufus, Tseng, and Vincent)
Warnings: smut, fem!reader, public sex
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rufus Shinra
Rufus likes nothing more than to push boundaries and see just exactly how much he can get away with in any given situation.
Luckily for you, depending on how you look at it, one of his favorite pastimes is seeing how much he can push you to your limits. He’ll initiate sex at any given time or place, never failing to make you flustered.
At this point, you’ve grown to accept that Rufus will have his fun and you’re his chosen partner in crime.
The party is boring, you have to admit. It was just a big, elaborate ballroom packed to the ceiling with people who only showed up to kiss President Shinra’s feet and stay in his good graces. For the president, it was an ego-trip and nothing more. It was a bloated, boring display of hubris by a bunch of people with sticks up their asses.
You were watching Rufus closely, practically begging him to pull some of his usual mischief so you’d get a reprieve from this dull situation. As soon as he managed to get away from his father’s prying eyes, he did just that. He found you in your little hiding place at a table in the far corner, noticing you were about three drinks deep in your attempt to liven yourself up. The wicked look in his pale blue eyes made your skin flush more than all the drinks combined. He sits beside you and leans in close, a delicate and sweet kiss is placed on your cheek. It’s an innocent gesture to any onlookers, but it was a cover for the fact that his hand is already squeezing your thigh. His nimble fingers push the slit of your evening gown over so he can squeeze at the fat of your inner thigh.
“You look exquisite,” he smirks. “Good enough to eat.”
The honey dripping from his words makes you tremble with excitement. He places another kiss, this time behind you ear so he can whisper a meeting place for the two of you. Before you can argue with his choice of venue, he’s slipping off to disappear into the crowd. For a moment you consider not following him. He’s pulled this trick plenty of times, but the coat room seemed like a risk even for Rufus. After all, everytime someone arrives or leaves they’ll be using the room to collect their belongings.
“Fuck it,” you whisper to yourself as you get up from your seat. You make sure nobody is watching before you make your way to the coatroom. You knock twice slowly, then three times rapidly. The same signal the two of you have used for so long during these little escapades. Rufus opens the door just enough to pull you inside. You’ve barely managed to catch your breath when his lips crash against yours.
“Good little pet,” he whispers. “You never keep me waiting.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tseng
Tseng very often ignores his own needs for the sake of work. This makes being his partner rather frustrating at times. Your feelings for him are so strong, but he is quite stubborn when it comes to his work.
He is pretty stern with you, and he’ll never really initiate anything outside of the comfort of your shared home.
However, if you were to say surprise him at the office, he’d have a very difficult time turning you down even if he feels like it’s too risky.
It has been days since you’ve managed to get any alone time with Tseng. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, but no matter how much you tried to get his attention he was steadfast in working. He’d even been mostly sleeping on the couch in his office, in short 20-minute phases. That’s why, when you were led to his office by Reno, he didn’t even notice the long trench coat you were wearing even though it was definitely new and not your usual style. He also didn’t notice when the door clicked as you locked it. In fact you hardly think he notices your presence at all until you’re leaning against his desk, ankles pristinely crossed to show off the nice black pumps you were wearing.
“Darling, I miss you,” you coo.
“I miss you too,” he says without looking up from the computer. “I’ve just been busy.”
“I know,” you pout and look down at your feet shyly. “Too busy for me.”
He clicks his tongue and if looks could kill then you’d be deceased. You actually feel your heart drop into your stomach.
“Did you come here just to make me feel guilty?”
“No, I actually have a surprise for you.”
His eyes narrow suspiciously, “What is it?”
You stand up straight and begin opening the trench coat. His lips part as your chest is exposed to reveal the pretty lace bodysuit you’re wearing. Slowly you slide the coat off your body. For a moment Tseng forgets where you are and what his position is. His cock stirs in his pants, and he can’t take his eyes off your gorgeous curves.
“I locked the door,” you smirk.
Something about those words made reality rush back to him all at once. He grabs your coat off the floor and hurried begins covering you up again. As he leans in to wrap it around your shoulders, you stand on your tiptoes to kiss him. You nip playfully at his bottom lip when you pull away.
“Please, I miss you so much,” you reach down to cup his cock through his pants and giggle when you feel how hard he already is just from the sight of you. “I know you want it too, baby.”
He hisses as you rub his erection, “Ten minutes.”
He moves quickly then, picking you up to place you on his desk. You spread your thighs so he can stand between them. You don’t even bother working on his tie or shirt. Your shaky hands go right to the belt around his waist, fumbling a little to open it. His fingers quickly open the buttons on the crotch of your body suit to expose your pussy to him. As he toys with your wet folds, a hunger appears in his eyes.
“Maybe make that 20.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vincent Valentine
Vincent met you unexpectedly as he wandered the world, doing what he could to help keep what remained of Midgar safe. It was when the remnants arrived to reclaimed Jenova, and you’d been injured. He did what he could to heal you, then expected you to be on your way…But you stayed by his side under the guise that you’d be safer with him than trying to make it home on your own.
Even after Sephiroth was once more defeated at the hands of Cloud, you’d still stuck around. He was secretly happy about it, but he never said as such to you.
The motivation to initiate something romantic arrived just as suddenly as you had. It wasn’t in public on purpose, but dammit he couldn’t hold back anymore.
He couldn’t stand it. He’d taken you to Edge to get some supplies, and it was painstaking to see you so in awe at the city. It had grown since the last time he was here, and the city had more to offer than it had. Shinra, or what remained of it, had truly built something special out of the ashes of Midgar. You’d remained with him at your own insistence, staying by his side as company even if at times he offered little of himself. Seeing you so excited to be in the hustle and bustle of the city made him nervous. It made him ponder going back to a life without you at his side, and the loneliness you’d helped cure in him despite not even knowing it. So often you’d quietly thanked him “for taking care of you” and he never really knew what you meant.
You were having fun, until you noticed Vincent decidedly wasn’t. He seemed even more sullen than usual. His face seemed sunken even lower in the collar of his cape. He’s walking a few paces behind you with his eyes fixed ahead. You slow your walk so he can catch up.
“Hey, what’s going on?” you ask. He only hums in response, never looking down at you. “Don’t be a sourpuss.”
“I’m not.”
You reach down to take his hand, a gesture he’s not at all used to, then pull him into the quietest alleyway you can find. He sighs as you cross your arms.
“If you wish to stay in the city, I have…friends who can help you,” he says. “You’re not bound to me.”
You laugh, “I know that. Vincent, I stay because I want to. I-I like being with you…I like you.”
He tries to hide the way his eyes widen and his cheeks burn. It doesn’t matter because you’re leaning in to kiss him softly, finally taking the chance you’ve wanted to for so long. You reach up to run your fingers through his long, dark hair. He tries not to succumb to the passion growing inside of him, but he can’t help himself from clinging to you and pulling you closer.
He would’ve much preferred that your first time making love wasn’t in a dirty alleyway, but after yearning for so long he can’t hold back any longer. He’s pressed close to you, kissing you and sighing with a peace he hasn’t known in so long.

𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 (𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐱 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings : none
notes : maybe ooc, not proofread
synopsis : Sephiroth and you have a calm night
Tumblr media
Sephiroth was different when he was with you, vulnerable and gentle. His calloused yet soft hands gingerly touched your body as if you were a delicate porcelain doll he was afraid he’d break. His lips were soft but always slightly chapped—you never minded though. He was everything you ever dreamed of. To the world he was a hero—the greatest SOLIDER to ever live but to you he was Sephiroth your boyfriend. Though these days you were seeing less and less of the silver haired SOLIDER, as you focused your on your career as a journalist and he was preoccupied with more and more assignments.
Tonight was like any other night you sat in your cubical typing away on the keyboard rapidly your eyes glued to the computer screen. A tap came from behind you, your coworker Danny poking his head into your cube. He smiled warmly, “Damn _______, you’re still here? Actually don’t answer that I’m not surprised. Anyways I’m heading out for the night, some of us are gonna hit up the bar. You joining us?” He asked. You sighed leaning back in your chair outstretching your arms and popping your fingers, “No I don’t think so. I’ve gotta get this piece written and published by Thursday.” You sighed in slight frustration. Danny laughed, “So you have a week still. What’s the rush?” He mused. You shrugged, “Just want to perfect it is all. Don’t worry I’ll close the office, you all go on ahead.” You smiled before returning to your computer. Your coworker shrugged and wishing you a goodnight before leaving the office. Not soon after their departure the lights had went off, signaling it was after hours, only the dim emergency lights illuminated your small office.
You weren’t sure when you had fallen asleep but you were suddenly startled awake by the sound of footsteps approaching your cube. “______, you’re still here?” A familiar deep voice asked just as they round the corner of your cube. Your eyes widened in disbelief when you saw him. He was dressed so casually, in a simple black turtle neck and black slacks, his hair pulled back in a loose low pony tail. “S-Seph…” you stammered. He smiled softly nodding, “I tried calling your cellphone but it kept going straight to voicemail then I tried your apartment and you weren’t there. So i assumed you stayed over at the office.” He said, “You really shouldn’t be staying over past your regular work hours.” He scolded half heartedly. You nodded quickly spinning around in your chair saving your work before shutting the computer off. You began to gather your things that were strewn about half haphazardly. Sephiroth only watched in amusement, he reached out grabbing your purse and lunch bag, “Let’s go.” He motioned with his hand.
You stepped outside the Shinra building the cold breeze nipping your bare face. You shivered bringing your arms close to your chest. Though Sephiroth didn’t seemed phased in the slightest he only chuckled, “I parked out front let’s hurry before you catch a cold.” He said as he reached out interviewing your hands. His hands were always cold but they were comforting. You nodded following after him as he lead you to his luxury car. The streets of Midgar at this hour were always so silent, it was always strange to see such a bustling city be so still. Sephiroth opened the passenger door of the black car once you were in he shut the door and placed your belongings in the back seat before finally he began to drive.
The drive back to your apartment was a comfortable silence. You leaned your head against the window watching sleepily the streetlights and homes you passed by. Quiet jazz from a local radio station playing over the speakers along with the the soft humming from the car. You lived in a poorer more dangerous part of the Upper Plates, it wasn’t as nice as Sephiroth’s home but its was comfy enough for you. “I can’t believe you live here ______. I wish you would just stay at my place when I’m not here. It would make me feel better.” He said as he pulled into a spot in front of the apartment complex. You simply shrugged as you unclamped your seatbelt. “You know why I can’t do that.” You mumbled in reply as you stepped out of the car. You quickly grabbed your bags from the back seat and rejoined the silver hair SOLIDER’s side. “Come on let’s hurry before anyone sees us.” You whispered walking ahead of him and quickly into the complex.
Finally you arrived back at your apartment and you swiftly quicker off your heels and tossed your keys on the front entrance table. You didn’t even bother placing your bags back on the wall hook and instead tossed them onto the floor. Sephiroth watched your with gentle eyes as he followed your lead. “Want anything to drink?” He asked walking towards the kitchen. He grabbed the dark red wine that sat in the counter and effortlessly pulled the cork out before pouring a glass. “Hmm?” He asked raising a brow outstretched hand holding the freshly poured glass. You shrugged, “Yeah sure. It’s been a long day Seph.” You said gratefully accepting that glass. The wine was bittersweet but it’s just the way you like it. “Ahhh…” you breathed flashing your lover a smile.
“It can be exhausting writing constant propaganda for Shinra. I don’t understand why you don’t become independent dear, you have the talent.” He said in between sips of wine. Rolling your eyes you made your way over to the couch promptly flopping down onto it though careful to not spill your wine. “I wasn’t writing propaganda. I was actually writing about how Shinra has been doing charity work in the lower plates.” You retorted a proud smirk on your lips. Sephiroth chuckled joining you on the plush grey couch you owned that definitely was not your style. “Soo…propaganda?” He smirked playfully. “N-no it’s not—“ you stammered desperately trying to defend yourself. He only laughed more, “I’m teasing. I enjoy seeing you get so flustered. It’s cute.” He purred cooly taking another sip of wine. “But you do know Shinra is only doing ‘charity’ just to look better to the public. But regardless…it’s a nice thing to do. Just don’t fall for their lies is all I ask ______.” He said. You nodded slowly, “I know. But I actually have something else to ask you. Why were you gone for so long this time?” You asked your eyes watery as you gazed into his intense green ones. Sephiroth made a face, it was one mixed with pain and uncomfortableness but he quickly masked it replacing his expression with a neutral one.
“Wutai had a lot more holdouts than we expected that’s all. I tried to call as often as I could.” He replied gently trying to explain the situation. You frowned hanging your head as you gazed at the red liquid in the glass. “It was three months this time.” You whispered. Your relationship with Sephiroth was one that was in secret; per his wish. He said it was to protect you but these days your relationship felt so distant after four years you wanted to take your relationship further but duty called. You wanted a family and to not be in a secret relationship with him, you wanted to be able to hold his hand walking down the street, run errands around Midgar with him but you couldn’t. A gentle hand caressing your cheek caused you snap out of your self loathing. Sephiroth brushed a strand of hair out of your face and used his finger to move your chin to look up at him. “After the war I promise we can begin our lives together. So for now wait for me for a little longer, would you ______?” He said a hint of pleading desperation laced in his voice. The last thing Sephiroth wanted to happen was for him to lose his only sense of joy and comfort. You nodded your head softly smiling, “Okay I’ll wait. Buuuttt just for a little longer.” You giggled leaning over to place a kiss on his lips which he gladly returned.
You nestled your way in between his legs and rested against his chest. The sound of the television playing in the background fading away as you drifted to sleep. Sephiroth’s heart beat was strange but it was so comforting.
I can wait forever for you Sephiroth….you thought before finally falling asleep.

■ Story
For years now, the Shinra Electric Power Company has been providing the world with energy at the expense of the lifestream, the “river” whence all life flows and whither it returns.
After storming the company’s headquarters and engaging in a series of battles for the ages, Cloud and his companions leave Midgar behind and set out for the wider world. Once in the grasslands, they hop aboard chocobos and embark on a journey with an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, Zack—beaten and battered from his fight against an army of troopers—hobbles across the wastelands into Midgar with a mako-poisoned Cloud on his shoulder. Though he has managed to escape death for now, the ominous rift in the sky gives him little reason to rejoice.
That is hardly the only threat facing the world, however. The Shinra Resistance Committee, backed by Wutai’s interim government, declares war on the company; figures shrouded in black robes carry with them the corpse of Jenova, a veritable calamity from another world; and the Weapons—fierce and monstrous guardians of the planet—have recently awakened.
Amid this chaos, Sephiroth has set his plan in motion, thus ensuring myriad fates intertwine and are birthed anew.
■ Characters
Cloud Strife (voiced by Cody Christian in English, Takahiro Sakurai in Japanese)
“There’s no point in wasting our time worrying about fate if we can’t change it.”
Tumblr media
An ex-SOLDIER: first class, Cloud came to Midgar to start a new chapter of his life as a mercenary. At the invitation of his childhood friend, Tifa, he accepts a job with Avalanche. Together, they confront Shinra, ultimately leaving Midgar behind in pursuit of Sephiroth and the truth─a quest which will lead them to defy destiny itself.
—Weapon: Sword
He fights by switching between modes specializing in mobility and offense. A single swipe of his huge sword can knock several foes off their feet at once. Some of his abilities also allow him to take the fight to the air.
Barret Wallace (voiced by John Eric Bentley in English, Masato Funaki in Japanese)
“This is the planet we’re talkin’ about! Y’all know she’s gonna pour her heart and soul into this fight!”
Tumblr media
The leader of an independent Avalanche cell, Barret spearheads an operation to take down Shinra’s mako reactors. He pays a hefty price for this, however, when the company retaliates, and his comrades die in the crossfire. Armed with the memories of his lost friends and the newfound knowledge of Sephiroth’s plans, he departs Midgar in hope of saving the planet and safeguarding a future for his daughter Marlene.
—Weapon: Gunarm
What he lacks in speed, he makes up for in both sturdiness and strength, converting his anger toward Shinra into raw firepower. He employs a variety of ranged attacks, from rapid-fire salvos to powerful explosions, which allow him to strike foes high in the air or across the battlefield.
Tifa Lockhart (voiced by Britt Baron in English, Ayumi Ito in Japanese)
“Ever wish you could just snap your fingers and forget the worst stuff?”
Tumblr media
Though a loyal member of Avalanche—an underground organization that opposes Shinra—Tifa nevertheless questions the group’s extremist tactics, struggling to reconcile her cause with her conscience. This internal conflict reaches a fever pitch when her group’s actions effectively lead to the fall of the Sector 7 plate. Racked with guilt, she leaves Midgar in search of a new path to tread.
—Weapon: Gloves
She strings together swift combos while utilizing a variety of martial art techniques. Her ATB fills quickly, allowing for the use of multiple abilities in rapid succession. She also boasts several skills that deal more damage to airborne or staggered foes.
Aerith Gainsborough (voiced by Briana White in English, Maaya Sakamoto in Japanese)
“Just look at it all… A living, breathing planet. Even after everything we’ve done to it, it’s still going strong.”
Tumblr media
A flower seller who lives in the Sector 5 undercity and the last remaining descendant of the Cetra, a people known for communing with the planet. Shinra takes her prisoner in their efforts to reach the Cetra’s foretold “promised land,” but Cloud and company come to her rescue. She escapes Midgar and embarks on a journey into the outside world of which she has long dreamed.
—Weapon: Staff
Utilizing the power of magic, she casts spells from a safe distance and launches attacks that home in on her foes. She can also conjure beneficial wards and warp between them, as well as restore the party’s HP with her limit break.
Red XIII (voiced by Max Mittelman in English, Kappei Yamaguchi in Japanese)
“I may be clad in fur…but that doesn’t mean I’ll purr.”
Tumblr media
Red XIII is a beast with a flaming tail, crimson fur, deadly claws, and the ability to speak. Cloud and company help him escape Professor Hojo’s clutches, and he decides to join them on their journey. His species is known for their long life spans, and he is no exception. As this Cosmo Canyon native is the eldest member of the party, he offers its members words of wisdom from time to time.
—Weapon: Collar
He sets upon foes with an unrelenting assault, laying into them with a beastly ferocity. Guarding against incoming attacks will feed his Vengeance gauge. Once it is full, he can unleash his inner beast, but sufficient skill is required to maximize its potential.
Yuffie Kisaragi (voiced by Suzie Yeung in English, Yumi Kakazu in Japanese)
“If I win, you get the honor of serving yours truly!”
Tumblr media
A member of Wutai’s elite corps of ninja operatives, Yuffie infiltrates Midgar on a mission to steal the “ultimate materia” from Shinra. Her plan ends in disaster, as she fails to claim the materia and loses her partner Sonon in the struggle. Just as working alone begins to take its toll on her, however, Cloud’s group comes into the picture.
—Weapon: Throwing Star
Using her throwing star and ninja skills, she excels at both long- and close-range combat. Elemental ninjutsu allows her to exploit enemies’ weaknesses without relying on spells. She also keeps opponents on their toes with a variety of aerial attacks and tricky techniques.
Cait Sith (voiced by Paul Tinto in English, Hideo Ishikawa in Japanese)
“Alright, everyone! By popular request: a fortune or two to steer you true!”
Tumblr media
A wisecracking, feline-shaped robot often seen poised atop his big moogle pal. One of the Gold Saucer’s most popular mascots, he is well loved for his fortune telling—a service he also offers to Cloud and friends. His adorable appearance also belies access to a surprising amount of insider intel on Shinra.
Sephiroth (voiced by Tyler Hoechlin in English, Toshiyuki Morikawa in Japanese)
“Don’t be afraid. It’s not death—it’s a homecoming.”
Tumblr media
A former SOLDIER: 1st class of legendary renown, he is said to have died in the line of duty in Nibelheim five years ago. This is proven untrue when he appears at the Shinra Building and absconds with a research specimen known as “Jenova.” He now toys with Cloud at every opportunity, seeking to change the course of destiny and rule the planet.
Zack Fair (voiced by Caleb Piece in English, Kenichi Suzumura in Japanese)
“I dunno—hopes? Dreams, maybe? Something like that! So long as we’ve got those—and hold on tight and never let go.”
Tumblr media
Zack may have worked with Sephiroth as a SOLDIER: 1st class, but he trained under a different operator, and it is from this man that he both learned to take pride in his work and received his iconic buster sword. After a grueling battle in which he overcomes the odds and cheats death, Zack returns to Midgar—where he hopes to see his love Aerith—with a mako-poisoned Cloud in tow.

■ Messages from the Development Staff
Yoshinori Kitase, Producer
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been set for release on February 29, 2024. This second installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake project will feature elements from the previous game, as well as greatly enhanced features such as the vast world map to explore and synergy abilities with party members. The story will unfold more dramatically than ever before, with a rapid pace of major twists and turns. We know fans are dying to see one scene in particular…
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can be enjoyed on its own as a standalone adventure, with the party leaving Midgar to explore the wide world beyond. But for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the story, a recap of the previous game will also be provided.
“We hope that both fans and those who have never played Final Fantasy before will enjoy this game.”
Naoki Hamaguchi, Director
“We are finally able to announce the release date to all of you! We have been working tirelessly on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth since the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and we can’t wait for you to experience our labor of love. In this title, Cloud and his friends, who have fled Midgar, will be setting out on an adventure across an expansive world of untold adventure in pursuit of Sephiroth.
“While the main storyline is bigger and more ambitious than the previous game’s narrative, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also embraces the concept of ‘free exploration,’ with compelling stories, fun mini-games, powerful monsters and so much more to find throughout the world map. We hope you will explore this world in great detail, as nearly 100 hours of adventure awaits.
“We hope you will take this new Final Fantasy game experience in your own hands to enjoy.”
Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Director
“This is the second title of a trilogy, and covers between the start of the journey outside Midgar to the midpoint of the original Final Fantasy VII. If Final Fantasy VII Remake was an introduction to the world and a preparation for this journey, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth serves as an illustration of the incidents that started the journey, an exploration of the people tied to it, and the journey itself, heading toward its climax. Many elements were carefully selected for this title and because this is a series, we have the unique opportunity to review and incorporate feedback from the previous title, such as by increasing the number of characters. I am sure that the bar for the next work will be raised even higher now that we have included so many spectacular elements in this work, but even so, the entire team continues to work diligently and without compromise on its development.
“There is also the looming question of what fate awaits. Whether you have experienced the original title or will embark on this adventure with fresh eyes, we hope you will face the ending of this work on your own terms.”

i have some thoughts about the Dyne sequence in FFVII Rebirth. spoilers for FFVIIR under the cut, and trigger warning for discussion and depictions of suicide
i feel like the way the scene is rewritten goes out of its way to undercut Dyne's agency, and to soften the blow of what he ultimately chooses to do
Tumblr media
in the original, he makes reference to Eleanor's voice- the memory of her forgiving nature having become an extension of his own, now at war with his desire to blame Barret for everything that he's lost
Tumblr media
in Rebirth, this is rewritten as Dyne being "mad with grief" in a more literal sense, with the scene reframed to imply he's seeing figures that aren't there, and is conversing with them
the decision to tweak his characterization from someone who's been driven to the brink by despair and regret to a more generic kind of cartoonish insanity feels like an attempt to explain away the self-destructive (and understandable) spiral that he's clearly been on since Barret left Corel
Tumblr media
the battle itself reflects this, too. in the original, it's a solemn, solitary duel between Barret and Dyne, reminiscent of an old west duel, or the final act of an operatic tragedy. the landscape is stark, and the sudden disappearance of the rest of the party forces a feeling of desperate isolation- the isolation Barret and Dyne themselves surely felt, and which now ironically forces them to fight one another
Tumblr media
the way Rebirth handles this starts out promisingly enough. it's still a duel, and that feeling of isolation is still there, but with a distinctly modern twist- with plenty of cover to duck behind and both combatants using their weapons on full auto, it feels less like a climactic western duel and more like the final shootout of a contemporary action-thriller... less "Unforgiven", more "John Wick." it's largely a function of how Rebirth handles the original's mechanics in a more general sense, and i have to say, it works for me. it's more hectic than the original, but the emotion is still there- a fight that runs hot, while the original runs cold
but of course, because it's a modern FF, it couldn't stay an understated duel- it has to be an overlong set piece with a whole second phase, during which Dyne reveals an unsettling new power that is implied to have further altered his already unstable mind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this pushes the battle away from being a somber, clear-eyed fight for revenge and into "Old Yeller" territory- an attempt to make the player feel justified in putting Dyne down
finally, the conclusion of the sequence: Dyne's fateful choice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in both versions, the revelation that Marlene is alive sends Dyne even further into despair, as he feels he's spilled too much innocent blood to be a father, and that Marlene was unlikely to remember him even if that weren't the case. in the original, he's unable to live with the weight of that, and he chooses to jump to his death. in Rebirth, the sudden convenient appearance of a horde of Shinra troopers shakes him out of his grief and sends him flying into a rage, giving him the opportunity to choose a more ambiguous "suicide by cop"
robbing Dyne of the decision to take his own life and instead having it come at the hands of nameless Shinra troopers undercuts the final tragedy of Corel, and the tragic contrast between Dyne and Barret. Dyne thinks that the violence he's committed in the name of vengeance makes him unfit to be a father, and unfit to live, but Barret says himself that he doesn't believe his own hands are any cleaner- the guilt over trying to raise Marlene while fighting Shinra as the leader of Avalanche is a contradiction Barret has been grappling with since the game began, and witnessing Dyne's suicide only deepens his personal crisis. Rebirth's change to the scene arguably reaffirms Barret's belief in the suicidal pursuit of vengeance, rather than causing him to question it, because Shinra has now stolen from him the chance to save his best friend. it's just another tally in the ledger that wants balancing, and another cup of gasoline on the conflagration that threatens to swallow Barret whole
the change also absolves Dyne himself, who had the chance to see Marlene again and try to rebuild his life, but decided he wasn't strong enough to face that challenge. in taking the decision to die out of Dyne's hands, the player's allowed to see him as just another victim of Shinra's cruelty, one who might have redeemed himself if he hadn't been tragically gunned down. a layer of the game's complexity and emotional depth is stripped away
i don't know. Rebirth's take is certainly more cinematic, in some ways, but i wish they'd handled it differently

Danny is on the run from Batman and is looking for a safe place to go, and travels dimensions until he lands in yet another new world.
Hoping not to get noticed by anymore bad guys he stays invisible as he explores this new world...that is until a blond guy with wierd hair and a large sword casts freaking fireball on him and startles him back into the visable spectrum.
After a scuffle in which Phantom discovered he couldn't phase through the blond guy and got thrown to the ground the blond guy suddenly stopped, "You're a kid."
"Please don't adopt me. I got like two other creepy rich dudes trying and they're not gonna succeed either."
The man just stared at him for a few moments before shething his sword into the wierd mess of harnesses on his back, "Thats fair. Are you hungry?"
Phantom was taken aback, "I-yeah? I guess."
The blond guy then started walking off, prompting the ghost to follow him. Blond guy lead them to a bar and restaurant called "Seventh Heaven" and had him sit down at a table while he went to chat with the pretty lady cleaning glasses behind the counter. She asked about Phantom, appearently not realizing he could hear her. Turns out blondie thinks he's some kind of byproduct of mad scientists and he's partially right. He didn't know who 'Shinra' was though.
They eventually gang up on him and force him to spill that he was on the run from wierd feds in two separate dimensions and two wierd billionaires, each from the two dimensions and they both want to adopt him. Danny doesn't wanna be adopted by them though.
The man, Cloud, offered to adopt him in stead. He would allow Phantom to come and go as he pleased so long as he showed up and allowed Cloud to mentor him and teach him how to fight properly. Phantom would be able to use Cloud, Tifa and thier kids as a cover if anyone asked.
Danny saw this as an absolute win.
Aka Cloud Strife says "Yeah, i'll lie to the feds for you"

Smol Sephiroth forced to cut his beautiful (safety blanket) hair, because... let's hear it from Hojo:
- It's stupid and childish. It serves no purpose and would only get in the way during the war!
For Sephiroth's hair to be worth touching at all, Sephiroth must severely embarrass Hojo, perhaps by failing a trial in front of President Shinra himself. Accidental or not doesn't matter. With Hojo's reputation tarnished through this disappointment, Sephiroth's punishment is severe.
The first phase is testing pain endurance. Something caused his misjudgment. If it was something as simple as pain, then Sephiroth's strength dwindled, which Hojo already had new regiments to begin if that was the case.
The second is surgery to discover what the exact cause was and develop theories to prevent it in the future. If these results come back negative or inconclusive, then the only explanation is a mental lapse.
Sephiroth is not allowed to make mistakes. He was born to be perfect and he will succeed.
The last phase, while the child is completely weak and fragile from healing, is his hair. He must never forget his mistake. Hojo conducts this procedure himself with a simple electric hair clipper. It takes everything Sephiroth has to stay still and silent when the buzzing began. Each long lock of silver hair hitting the ground took a piece of his heart with him. This was because of his failure. His inadequacy. He was bad and he deserved to be punished, but he never expected this.
It was cold. Everything was cold.
In his room that night, he bundled himself in every blanket and sheet he could find. It made due at night when he covered his head with the warm fabrics, the silver buzz cut prickly against the imperfections of each layer. In the lab, he struggled not to shiver, not like it was cold enough to justify the reaction. The lack of protection, the empty cold chilling his spine devastated him, the mental attack he could not defend against. The one piece of himself he had control over laid at the bottom of a worthless trashcan.
He swears he will never feel this again.

so, how long did it take for sephiroth to go from the 5’6” lil guy we see in the first soldier to the 6’7” behemoth he becomes by crisis core? was it a gradual thing over the course of a few years or did it happen all at once over a summer or something? did he have an awkward tall and gangly phase or did the muscle come with the height?
The most humorous scenario I can think of is it all just happening over the course of one summer where he just shoots up and it freaks everyone out. Sephiroth is squeaking like usual during a mundane conversation and then midway through a sentence SUDDENLY LOW IMPOSING NEWBERN VOICE out of nowhere lmao
Shitposting aside, I actually just think Sephiroth had a moderately gradual growth rate. Less of an awkward phase and more of him just building more height and muscle over time due to his extensive training, along with his efforts in the Wutai War. And with Shinra (and Hojo) keeping him in peak condition, he was bound to grow into his most formidable self.

Sephiroth's Instagram
ShinRa has Sephiroth create an official Instagram account both to combat the growing number of fake accounts and to boost his image. They come to regret this decision 2 weeks later.
• One time Genesis gifted Sephiroth a bong and told him it was a vintage humidifier. Sephiroth reorganized his office and proudly posted a picture of it with the bong in the background.
• He posted a nice picture of him, Genesis and Angeal together, but chose then to address the rumors. So the caption is just: We did not have a threesome.
• Mirror selfie to show how shiny his new pauldrons were. In the background Zack and Cloud were seen eating dog biscuits.
• To show that he cares for his supporters and does receive their kind gifts, Sephiroth posted a picture of himself wearing a pair of sunglasses gifted to him by a fan. The problem? They were pot leaf sunglasses.
• He once accidentally went live during a meeting, where in the 20 seconds you could hear Lazard say "Take Genesis for example. He's been sleeping for thirty minutes. Are we going to wake him up? No. Why? Because it's exhausting being an inconvenient bitch with the personality of a mop bucket all day."
• When he posted a candid picture of Genesis eating an apple and decided to caption it with a fun fact Angeal told him: He ate chalk as a child.
• When he went live to demonstrate how to properly oil a sword and Zack walked by in the background, started twerking, realized Sephiroth was live, cringed in horror, then in his attempt to escape ran face-first into a wall.
• Mirror selfie that he captions "outfit of the day"
@ AngealHewley commented: It's the outfit of every day. We wear uniforms.
• Sephiroth posts a picture of himself at a nice lake in Kalm and captions it "Beautiful day"
Genesis is visibly drowning in the background.
• He has a highlight reel titled "friendship" and it's just 87 videos of him going "scare cam!" and scaring the shit out of Genesis, Angeal, Zack and Cloud. The last one in the series was him trying to scare Cloud, who had a hot cup of tea in his hands. The audio of said video is just "Scare cam! OW THAT'S HOT!"
• When he was made to stand beside Rufus Shinra for a photo at an event. Sephiroth later posted that picture to Instagram with Rufus visibly cropped out.
• He started taking pictures of stray cats throughout Midgar and giving them each names on the caption. Some notable ones are Cheese grater, Umbrella, Airplane, Egg, Criticism, Water Heater, and a black cat he named Anti-capitalism
• When he posted an embarassing picture of Genesis in his teenage emo phase. Caption read: Throwback. @ GenesisRhapsodosOfficial commented: I will throw back a brick in your face
• Sephiroth organized his closet and proudly posted a picture of it. The comment section was filled with observations of how there was not a single shirt in that man's closet.
• When he took a picture of the gray, lifeless Midgar night sky and captioned it: Look at the stars. They're so bright from here.
• Picture of him shaking hands with president shinra at an event. The caption read I was forced to take this pictureDelete. Delete. Delete.
The text to speech failed.
• Sephiroth took a picture of a random puddle of Mako on the lab floors. Captioned it: Mmm, juice.
• He took a picture of Angeal, Genesis, Zack and Cloud playing twister. It's chaos, they're messy, toppled on top of each other and laughing. Sephiroth captioned it "Home"

sephesis week day 4. injury / separation: "wings stripped away, the end is nigh."
-
"They're saying the war will be over by the end of this year," Genesis says, reaching up to play idly with a strand of Sephiroth's hair. His bangs are getting long—long enough to dangle in Genesis's face when he rests his head in Sephiroth's lap, and they dance away from his fingers as Sephiroth's head tilts in askance.
"So they are. And?"
"And," Genesis continues, sitting up abruptly, "I'd like to hear what our esteemed hero thinks. So, will it?"
"You and I are here." Sephiroth's mouth quirks upwards. "I place my estimate at the end of autumn by the latest."
Even for Sephiroth, that's rather confident, and Genesis's eyebrows raise. It's already mid-summer, after all.
"We won't be together, though," Genesis points out. Though they've been called to return to headquarters for briefing before the final phase of the war, it's largely for protocol's sake. As the actual personnel on the field, they both already know that the strategy to take down Wutai's final fort will require them to split up for the first time in years. "I do believe that eliminates a good portion of the benefits of our teamwork."
"The end of autumn," Sephiroth repeats, almost dogged in his insistence, and Genesis feels the ache of separation already. "No longer."
Admittedly, the thought of the war ending so early is… appealing, especially the implied freedom it brings. There's not much he misses about the people of his hometown, but the orchards, the caverns, the apples… It's been a very long time, and he murmurs, "It would be rather nice to go home. And to be able to see Angeal more often than whenever Lazard deems fit to summon us."
After their promotion to First, while Genesis had been assigned more leadership responsibilities in Wutai, Angeal had opted to stay behind and train new recruits. After all, Genesis has always been more deft at leadership and strategy, while Angeal is the one with the patience and sternness to engrain some kind of principles in flighty teenagers high with too much power in their hands. Enough that most don't immediately die on the battlefield, at least.
As a result, Genesis and Sephiroth only ever really get a chance to spend time with Angeal when they return to Midgar—which admittedly isn't infrequent, but it's almost always brief, which is a far cry from when they used to spend all hours together here in Wutai. Genesis knows Sephiroth enjoys those times together too, which why his silence now is a tad odd, and—
"I suppose I'd simply… return to ShinRa, then," Sephiroth says finally, his mouth an unhappy line. "After all, I have no other home to return to."
"Absolutely not," Genesis says immediately. "You'll come with us to Banora, of course. You, me, Angeal—we'll all go together."
Sephiroth's eyes widen, as if such a revelation comes as a surprise. As if it isn't a given. "It wouldn't be an intrusion, would it?"
"Of course not." Genesis dismisses the thought with a wave of his hand. "After all, there's something there I want to show you."
There's a dream he still has from a long time ago—a wish that he still hasn't fulfilled, even after all these years.
"It's a promise."
-
Dearest Sephir
My love, I
It won't heal. I can't bear
I have no other choice but
Wings stripped away, the end is
I lo
I'm sorry.
-
Genesis burns the note.

ff7 / SOLDIER hc
imagined SOLDIER program
boot camp screening /
After completing boot camp, new recruits undergo a standard screening (physical, cognitive, psychological, tactical, etc.) to identify potential SOLDIER candidates based on specific qualifying criteria designated by Lazard and the Research and Development Division (Hollander and Hojo), inherently designed to also identify “desirable” test subjects for Deepground and Reunion Theory
SOLDIER preliminary evaluations /
New recruits who qualify for the SOLDIER program based on the screening undergo 6 months of evaluations (intensive training and mission performance observations)
mako preconditioning, phase I /
With favorable results at the end of 6 months, SOLDIER candidates begin 3 months of weekly low-grade mako injections to test tolerance and threshold of reactive toxicity; along with side effect monitoring, evaluations continue including more specialized observations and / or simulations designed for surveilling changes in brain electricity, vitals, strength, etc.
note / As Shinra grows anxious over SOLDIER numbers, they not only begin kidnapping for recruits but begin accelerating this phase from 3 months to 1.5 months (6 weekly), obviously at the expense of candidate wellbeing
mako preconditioning, phase II /
Upon successfully completing phase I, SOLDIER candidates who have not been discharged due to mako reactive toxicity continue the same training, evaluations, and monitoring, but proceed to 3 months of low-grade mako infusions, at one infusion session every other week
third class /
Upon successfully completing both preconditioning phases, candidates are promoted to SOLDIER: Third Class, moving on to monthly Jenova cell injections and more rigorous / higher grade mako infusions; they proceed to elite training in combat, as well as the fusion and use of materia, etc. with regular tactical, psychological, and physical evaluations; promotion to SOLDIER: Second Class is informed by their scores, performance, and developing special abilities
general duties / responsibilities: Shinra Building security, especially R&D / Science Department; some sent to other Shinra bases to serve as security or assist Shinra troops; postwar, some sent to shadow Second Class in “maintaining peace” outside Shinra bases
