I've been following My Brother's (Not So) Secret Boyfriend for a while but I just read Something Borrowed, Something New and LOVED it. Heartwarming stories about parenting always, always hit for me and everything about it was so touching.
I wanted to ask if you had any inspirations for the plot, and if you have any recommendations for webcomics with similar themes (whether on webtoon or not).

Honestly, the biggest source of inspiration was the characters themselves, because SBSN is technically an AU for a set of OCs that have lived in my brain since I was in high school :') so a lot of it is a result of me constantly remixing their relationships and circumstances in my head, because I love creating "What If" scenarios for my characters ahaha. Aside from that, though, I like going into stories with a certain type of dynamic I want to explore! In this case, it was the idea that different people can end up with different relationships to their parents/families despite sharing similar experiences to one another, plus the question of how to draw the line of your own personal boundaries in the face of knowing your actions affect more people beyond just yourself. From there, it was a matter of taking those old comfort OCs and having fun!
Hmmmmm, as for recommendations—Lemon Soda & Coffee is a very sweet (completed!) Webtoon that I think is probably the closest series I've come across in having a similarly themed plot to SBSN. Yotsuba&! is also an excellent comedy manga featuring a very charming father-daughter duo! I wouldn't necessarily call it similar to SBSN, but I also adore SpyxFamily, in particular for its development of Loid and Yor's parenting skills for Anya 😂 Oh, and Plus One recently made its debut as a Webtoons Original! It's almost all baby fluff, so if nothing else I feel like it can fill in the gaps in SBSN that I quietly skipped over when it comes to the actual getting-ready-to-raise-a-baby bits in real life ahahaha Thanks again!!! 💕

This 17th century woodcut depicts a group of witches adoring the devil. The illustration comes from the Compendium Maleficarum (Collection of the Evil Deeds of Witchcraft) by Francesco Maria Guazzo. Guazzo was an Italian priest and exorcist from the order of Saint Barnaba and Saint Ambrose ad Nemus. This work which describes the practice and profession of witchcraft was first published in 1608.

This is an AU where Joanne had lost too much. Families and friends had died in her arms. Then Joanne was droven to the edge until finally she snapped
【 Lore 】
The Hero of Falconreach is no more. Lore has no need of someone like her, thus they drove her away. People turned on her, calling her a witch. It was only a matter of time for the Hero of Falconreach to break.
Betrayes by destiny. Thrown away by her people. Alone, while carrying the dying dragon, she accepted doom and watched over from the darkness.
Additional notes:
This is an AU where she lost everyone, which means she lost more than just Serenity and Tomix. Aegis, Ash, Aria, Zhoom, Valencia, and the rest had gone. Some are still alive, maybe like Artix and Victoria, but just a few of them Less and less people trust her, and she ended up droven away by the others.
Arc could be consideres half-dead? He's dying, has no chance of surviving. But with her new power Joanne brought him back. The current Arc that come with her is alive, but he's more of a brainless puppet right now.
Joanne's current base of operation is in Maguswood, hidden in the forest. The chance of meeting her is actually very low ... ... ... Unless you're a Rose soldier.
She often pretending to be a normal adventurer and being friensly to people she met by accident in the wood. Using cryptic power she usually distort other people's eyesight and memory, making sure they won't remember her face and voice clearly after meeting her. Of course unless you're a Rose soldiers, this could change.
This Joanne is more hostile and merciless to Rose soldiers. No Rose soldiers could survive her. None of them ever come back after meeting her.
Though she never attack first. She will provoke them and make sure the other will attack her first so she could claim it as a "self defense".
Despite her new power and the fact that she's now no longer considered a hero, Joanne still watch over Falconreach. Other town could be destroyed for all she cares, but if anyone dare to lay a finger on her used to be hometown, Joanne will make them regret everything.
People treat her like Voldemort, no one dares to mention her name and refer her as "the Witch". Only the last few people who once knew her dares to speak her name.
She's not going around destroying Lore or work with the Darkness though. Just living alone in the woods and now lives as the villain instead of the hero.

I got really deep into researching Slavic mythology (focused on South Slavic but not exclusive), and Neverafter's Baba Yaga is already intentionally or not sticking to how Slavic witches make deals and boons in a very chaotic way, and I'm so excited about it!!! I'm already compiling all the headcanons about how she casts spells in my brain.
like...maybe she makes offerings to water spirits and/or has a special connection to water like most врачаре are said to! maybe she helps fishers and farmers graciously. maybe she takes your soul and while that ensures you get your wish it also ensures you die a violent death! with every deal you make with her a story begins, and the promise of your (premature) death is made. Slavic witches also more often than not cast spells in threes ...and the big bad wolf hates things that come in threes... and he is scared of her. I also doubt this will be incorporated but it would be cool if the idea that spells done in trifolds "increase power by x3" could be incorporated into the mechanics.

Surprise manga haul!
#prince's talk tag#i was able to get a ride to a store near me in hopes of them having bloom into you#they did not#BUT I got some books i was thinking of getting yesterday and passed on like the two books in the top two corners#i didnt catch up with sasaki yet but im not going on my booktrip next week so i decided to get the spinoff now#they didnt have the next volume i needed for witch hat so i held off on buying that#but i did find go for it again which i thought didnt get translated#and since i never see it anyway i decided to get it now#i saw phantom tales yesterday and i really liked the cover but didnt know if i should buy it#but then i read chapter 1 online and i got hooked#it gave vibes to a manga i read a long time ago about a supernatural being who resides at a cafe who solves troubles in exchange for dreams#and this one is about a supernatural being who owns an inn who allows people to stay in exchange for secrets#and the art is really nice so im interested to see where itll go#the reo and mabu manga i loved when i first read it and seeing it on the shelf made me wanna own it so here i am#ive heard good things about pancreas eating but never watched it so i wanna read the manga (i think it was a light novel first but *shrug*)#dk what summer ghost is about but the cover intrigued me
