I'm not sure if you're looking for plotty or smutty fics, so I'll just split them up.

Plotty A/B/O Multichaps

Alpha Syndrome by atypicalsnowman – A beautiful fic featuring Alpha!Tony and Beta!Stephen Strange. Tony Stark has to bond with an omega. He has to or face a slow and painful death. No matter how much he loves his beta, Stephen Strange. Then magic steps in. (Some good smut, a healthy amount of angst and whump, too.)

Can't Help Falling In Love With You by Chocopiggy – Animal Shifters and A/B/O Canon Divergent: Tony falls in love with Stephen on Titan. Specifically, the moment when the wizard stops scrying with that time stone of his, and Tony's met with the most loving look from Stephen (or anyone) he had ever seen. Back on Earth, Stephen has his memories of the alternate futures blocked by Wong, in order to protect the omega's sanity. And it's up to Tony to get Stephen to fall in love with him once more, just to see the same expression on Stephen's face once again. (In progress, no actual smut (yet), and a good amount of fluff, romance, slowburn, angst/whump and hurt/comfort)

Children of the Old Moon by old_blue – After an encounter with a supernatural killer goes wrong, Stephen is pulled into another world. There, he meets a very familiar face... Now he just needs to catch the murderer, save the multiverse, and find a way back home. (It's not Ironstrange actually, it's Sam Wilson/Stephen Strange (dunno their ship name, rarepair), but it's one of my favourite Omegaverse pieces. We all know how messed up the abo verse is, but I've never actually seen it being addressed in a fic itself. Also has super good plot twists and mysteries, and a LOT of good smut)

Royally Fucked by Insert_Witty_Username — King Stephen Strange’s kingdom had been at war as long as he can remember, locked in a battle between the fey, Stephen’s people, and the humans. The war almost ended with the union of Stephen’s parents, one fey and an omega human, that is, before they were killed in an attack. Stephen, now blooming into his early twenties, and still suspiciously unpresented, has taken it upon himself to meet the human’s king and put an end to the war ravaging his land, no matter what it takes… however it ends up taking a whole lot more than he expected. When his meeting with the alpha prince Anthony spirals south, triggering Stephen’s first-ever heat and revealing him as an omega, King Howard of the Stark Kingdom sees it as a perfect opportunity to create a union between the humans and the fey through marriage. Anthony and Stephen struggle to get along, both unable to see past the inescapable bonds of their inevitable wedding. Stuck in a strange new world, Stephen is lost without a support network all while his entire identity and sense of self is turned upside down. In the meantime, something far larger and far more dangerous than a petty squabble over the union of a prince and a king brews in the background… (In progress, Stephen is a fae here so magic does exist. He gets all dolled up with fae clothing and the descriptions there are superb, there's even a fanart by slasher_art444 picturing it.)

Fandom ask game: 4, 6, 16?

Oh! Hi! 4) Mmm. Attack On Titan, off and on. I think any large fandom kinda just sucks to be in through. I'm not really in the fandom. More like hanging off the edge asking "May I please see Ymir and Erwin?".

Fruits Basket fandom in 2007?-2013 as an Akito roleplayer because Akito is a terrible person. I can't deny that. So everyone expects you to roleplay them in their worst moments. But I was more interested in the religious/familial hierarchy roles they fulfill and the gender fuckery from the manga. And most other people in the fandom circles I was in were there from the anime. So...not only was I roleplaying from a different gender, I was roleplaying with entirely different motivations than the others and it made everything rather annoying. I hated their favorite characters and they hated mine (which is fair, Akito and Shigure are terrible people that are meant for each other.). Honestly, anime fandoms in general have been pretty awful. And that brief trip into Homestuck. Oh yeah. The Borderlands fandom. I love more terrible people in those games.

6) The Locked Tomb because it has very visually appealing fanart and everyone keeps selling me on it. But I don't have the mental energy to finish a book.

I'm playing both Disco Elysium and Hades but they are very hard for me to get into gameplay wise. I really like the fandoms though. So I need to actually play the games.

Barbarians but I don't have the energy for subtitles either. I'm just full of mental blocks lately, but things are getting better.

16) Ok, here are some things I'd like to do:

I want to make a smutty Alexidas comic? series of pictures? to this song. I've had it planned out for months. I have the...references. I have time.

On the same note I want to do a comic of Deimos! Alexios and his...child self? to this song. I think it'd be healing?

I want to write the Eruri modern au/record shop au fic that I made a playlist for in 2018.

I want to make a series of Kassandra pictures in AUs.

I want to make a lithograph of Brasidas.

I want to singlehandedly make a sequel to Dream Daddy but it's just a Mary Christiansen and maybe Val but I've already dated a Val and that went badly dating sim. You can date her and she leaves Joseph for you. You live the rest of your days in a happy group with Amanda and Mary's terrifying children and Robert visits often and gets in recovery for alcoholism.

Uh. I want to write a lot more weird little fics for AC Odyssey and apparently they will all have to do with hair.

I want to finish my WIPs.

I want to start the planned depressing yet wholesome Steddie Christmas/holiday fics I had dreamed up.

I want to make some filthy Borderlands stuff. Idk what kinda stuff. I haven't thought that far. Just. Some stuff. Should exist.

I want to make a massive oil painting portrait of Eliot Waugh from the Magicians. Also one of Brasidas. Also one of Kassandra. Also one of Erwin Smith. Also one of Anna Karenina. Also one of...ok my teenage dreams were oil portraitist so that's just...a thing I want to do.

I want to learn how to sew really well and recreate every outfit Villanelle ever wears in Killing Eve.

I want to learn the shanties in AC Odyssey and record myself doing every voice so I can just do harmony with myself.

I want to write a fic to go along with the Alexidas pieta to explain how I feel about Alexios grieving.

I have a lot of dreams.

Alright... that’s a lot to unpack... good grief... what an episode.

Ok, where are we? I guess the start is as good a place as any to begin.

So, here we are in part four of Leon vs. Ash. At least one of my predictions came true: Eternatus helped solve the problem that Ash and Leon’s Gigantamax and Z-move created. I’m glad that, in that sense, Eternatus didn’t interfere in the match so much as to have them call it off. I could’ve very easily seen the writers doing that as a cop-out not wanting to break Leon’s winning streak while not giving Ash another finals loss.

I do wonder what exactly changed such that Eternatus is now trying to actively keep away another occurrence of the Darkest Day, aside from just being a captured pokemon. Maybe that’s all it really takes. I might’ve appreciated more hints and scenes on this change in behaviour aside from the one we got the episode before the battle, but I can’t ask for too much more for such a one-off thing, I suppose.

Anyway, the lesson here we learn here is don’t mix your battle enhancements. Z-Moves and Gigantamax moves apparently have violent, explosive, world-altering chemistry.

I think the best thing we got out of that encounter was Team Rocket narrating the events to the same rhythm and rhyme as their motto. Considering I don’t really care for TR always butting into the match and eating up valuable screen time, that’s saying something.

That all aside, we can’t say that Eternatus didn’t do anything to influence the match. They apparently gave Leon and Ash another use of Gigantamax, which Leon elected to use on Cinderace this time while Ash could only use it with his lone contender, Pikachu. In retrospect, I should’ve expected something like this because we’d also been exposed to Gigantamax Pikachu far earlier in the series. I’m surprised I didn’t think of it, but I guess it’d been long enough that I forgot about the big round Pika-friend and his extra-long lightning-tail.

Strangely, we only got one move out of each of those Gigantamaxes with a cool pairing of move impacts that each tried to hold at bay. The announcer said the impacts forced them back to normal size, which seemed like a really conveniently mundane answer. I would’ve gone with something along the lines of the fact that Enternatus only provided so much power for their second Gigantamax, but that’s just me.

That said, the visuals in this face-off were pretty cool, and I love Cinderace trying to repeatedly kick the damn lightning bolt back up into the sky. That said, Cinderace must be quite frail since I’m reasonably certain it took little to no damage in its other appearances in the match. Meanwhile, Pikachu took that giant fire-soccer-ball like a champ and went on to stand up against Charizard.

I do appreciate that, in the end, after all those battle enhancements through the match we do come down to a classic pokemon battle. No Mega Evolution. No Z-moves, no Gigantamax or Dynamax. Just Pikachu vs. Charizard.

And after all that, after we finally... finally... got some screens of Ash’s past travelling companions that we’ve been missing! Another shot of the ranch crowd; Misty; Brock, Cilan, and Alexa all in the same room, May and Serena in contest garb with Max and bonus Lisia! I’m not sure why we haven’t been able to get them until now, but thank god we finally got them in before it was all over.

Now, I’d be here all night if I were to narrate every move exchange between the pair of battlers because damn, there are a lot, and damn, some of them work great on screen. Pikachu using an electroweb to delay a fire blast long enough to dart away. Charizard taking an iron tail in the chest to be able to use a dragon pulse at point-blank range. Pikachu jumping from ancient power boulder to ancient power boulder like in his gym battle with Grant back in XY to get to the fucking ceiling of the arena. Dueling moves as the pair fall back to the ground. The raw displays of power between the two pokemon as they try and intimidate each other and show off their strength.

I won’t lie, I was captivated. This is the kind of battling I love to see. This is why I come back to this anime time and time again. For these moments. For these battles. I swear, for a few minutes there, I forgot about all the critiques I had for the rest of the battle in the previous three episodes leading up to this. I might’ve even forgotten my all-to-often-displayed annoyance for Leon’s character too.

This was just raw, high-octane, amazing battle and animation fueled by rad music and peak emotional investment from the trainers, the pokemon, and even me.

Then Pikachu took a nasty fire blast hit, beginning, for me, the most poignant and powerful part of the episode. All to the tune of Pikachu’s heaving breaths, we got to see the looks on everyone’s faces as we waited to see if the little yellow mouse would continue to stand:

Dawn and Chloe; Team Rocket; our favourite badass ladies, Cynthia and Diantha; Misty; May and Serena holding hands, and Max is there too; the two mentors in Cilan and Brock; Iris on her iPad; my precious lemon siblings, Clemont and Bonnie; the whole fucking Alola gang, and then the Alola adults too; the Oak Ranch crowd; and finally, Goh.

Then, from behind Pikachu’s own eyes, we saw the moment he fell over. This next part of the episode that made me actually choke up a bit.

For Pikachu, all in its own mind within presumably fractions of a second--though stretched out for us and him--a reunion with all his friends: Ash’s pokemon. All of them. From every region. Kanto. The Orange Islands. Johto. Hoenn. Sinnoh. Unova. Kalos. Alola. And the latest team too. And even pokemon Ash released, traded, or otherwise left with others: Butterfree, Pidgeot, Primeape, Ambipom, Goodra, and Nagandel.

I’m a sucker for nostalgia, I won’t even try to hide that. I love when the anime acknowledges the past sagas. And this was wonderful for me. The feelings that welled up for me had me clutching my chest.

And then finally, Ash comes up and tells him, “That’s right Pikachu! Everyone’s at our side!”

That’s when Pikachu gets up and lets out a frighteningly powerful thunderbolt that even has Charizard and Leon recoiling.

That’s when Ash turns his cap back when we know things are really hitting their peak.

That’s when Leon throws his cap off and does his goofy, though I suppose now quite appropriately timed, pose as the two contenders finally meet in their final clash of the match.

Pikachu meeting Charziard in the middle, shrouded in pure electric power contrasted against red-hot flame, was a powerful feat of animation...

...and made me wonder why we ever gave up Volt Tackle.

Cut to Pikachu on a bed in the local Pokemon Center, us as audience members supposedly clueless as to who won. It was a strange way to delay telling us who won, since they really didn’t make us wait long to show it anyway. But all said, the finale of Charizard getting domed on the head by Pikachu, letting out one last frustrated gout of flame before keeling over, was pretty neat.

Then, to my surprise, an actual moment of character development for Leon! We’d been teased, very lightly, with flashbacks to Leon as a kid. This culminates here in the completion of those scenes with us seeing none other than a young (and hella adorable) Sonia beating the young new trainer, Leon.

I actually really love the idea of the unbeatable champion having actually lost to someone before, and that someone being Sonia. Sorry Ash, you weren’t the first!

But that’s ok! Because you beat him when it counted, Ash! You got there, to that champion podium, with that damn trophy that’s almost as big as you (you really gotta grow up soon already Ash... you’re not going to be able to carry these home if they keep growing at the rate they are and you’re growing at the rate you are...).

We got another moment with the gang back at Oak Ranch, our phaesporia crumbs with Diantha and Cynthia pining for another match (so why not each other... heheh), cuts to Ash’s supporters in the crowd (aww why no cuts to our lovely companions watching from afar again? Aw... oh well...) and then, finally, to the next morning for the segue into Goh’s own finale to come next week.

Odd thought:

So it’s quite heavily implied that Clemont was the one to come up with the idea of integrating Rotoms into the Rotomdex, thus kickstarting the idea of having Rotoms become a common sight in frequently used electronic devices that benefit from having autonomous and mobile behaviour, such as phones and cameras in battle arenas.

Considering that the Rotomphone is a continued fixture of the upcoming Scarlet/Violet games, on top of having been popularized in Galar and with the Rotomdex getting a start in Alola, it seems like the idea of using Rotoms in convenient electrical devices has really taken off on a multi-regional, perhaps even international, scale.

So...

I hope Clemont is seeing some sort of royalty benefits of this if these products are being monetized. Given the very commercialized nature of the Galar League (or at least implied commercialization, given that it mimics soccer leagues in theming in that region, on top of the fact we see adverts on the boards of the stadium as well as even on Leon’s cape), I can’t imagine that the Galar league gets to make use of the Rotom drone cameras for free. Therefore, someone likely makes and sells them to the league or the individual stadiums, which are likely financed by the league in some manner. If the pokemon world parallels our world, aside from Rotomphones given to young trainers to ensure they can communicate for safety and convenience on the road, I imagine that Rotomphones are something one has to buy as well.

Now, I’ve always headcanoned Clemont and his family lived in rather modest conditions (perhaps not below the poverty line, but not too far above it either, perhaps in the lower end of middle class). I hoped that the young man’s brilliance and drive, even if it doesn’t always pan out, would eventually lead him to a life of means by which he could eventually help support his family, helping to give Bonnie a happy childhood leading up to her eventual pokemon journey (given that he often appears as one of her primary caretakers, perhaps even more so than her father). A success on the scale of the establishment of the Rotom-integration trend would definitely be the windfall Clemont needed after years of using his own funds (after numerous deductions for essentials) from his position as gym leader to fund his passion of invention to mixed results. Perhaps many of his invention failures were due to the use of sub-par materials and parts that came with a lower income and meagre financial assets.

In addition to being able to continue with new, bolstered confidence and motivation on the winds of his new success, I’m sure Clemont will dedicate a great deal of these potential royalties to further iteration and invention with resources that could lead to greater and more frequent successes and greater benefits to “help people and pokemon” as he has claimed and endeavoured to do since he first fell in love with the concepts of science and engineering at large. As well, considering the fact he’s a person who cares deeply for his family’s welfare, and Bonnie’s especially, I’m certain he’ll use his a good part of his newfound wealth to ensure Bonnie has the best chance she has of pursuing her dreams too.

My Commentary on Legends Arceus

So, after some 86 hours of my life being consumed, I finally managed to complete Pokemon’s newest entry into the franchise. I know I kind of alluded to this being some sort of review in previous posts I’ve made, but the fact of the matter is, I’m neither a qualified or professional reviewer, nor am I someone expecting to convince others to play this game or assign it a score.

I’m writing this more as a way to purge my thoughts and feelings on this game in a way that makes me feel like the experience is complete. And, hot damn, I really want to talk about this game!

It goes without saying that there are massive spoilers for Pokemon Legends: Arceus beneath the cut.

Now, for full disclosure, for anyone that cares about where my opinion comes from on this game with references to my praises and critiques: I have completed the game in so far as that I have completed the main story, the post-game story, collected all the wisps, collected all the poetry, and gotten a research score of 10 to classify every pokedex entry as finished.

That said, I cannot bring myself to complete every single research entry for each pokemon’s shiny bonus, nor grind that last 2.5k points to get myself to a 10 star rank with Galaxy Team. As someone who doesn’t hunt shinies, and having looked up the 10 star reward, neither feels worth it to me.

That all said, I do think that I have a pretty broad scope with which to comment on this game. So here we go!

To start, let’s get around two big elephants in the room:

Firstly, let’s address game’s continuous comparisons to Breath of the Wild. Yes, in the very broadest and simplest sense, you could compare it to The Legend of Zelda’s open-world marvel. I had to actually dissuade myself from making this comparison in order to avoid the disappointment with the very first thing that I found annoying about this game: your base character cannot climb or mantle over small ledges.

Weird odd Volo theory with Legends: Arceus spoilers beneath the cut...

"Someday, I'll solve every riddle in the legends of Hisui's Pokémon. And on that day, I'll stand before Arceus at last—No, I will CONQUER it! No matter how many years, how many decades, how many centuries it takes me!"

This is something Volo says after we defeat him and Giratina.

This just makes me wonder though:

Is it odd to anyone else that he says “centuries” there specifically?

I suppose this could be him being overly dramatic, but is the pursuit of a physical god not something that someone could fall into pursuing over a long-lived life?

Take another Volo quote: "I've devoted myself to Arceus beyond any other! I worshiped it as the creator of our entire world! I bent all of my passion and interest to its study! All the time I've spent poring over the legends... Everything that I've done—!"

This sounds like an obsession that could be forged over a lifetime, though Volo does not appear all that old.

So I have to ask, in light of these quotes and Volo’s utterly fervent need to reach Arceus and his dedication to that goal: is Volo immortal?

Or at the very least, is he incredibly long-lived.

And that itself brings upon us another important question.

We’ve seen numerous ancestor characters to various Sinnoh characters (as well as ones from other regions). Naturally, we’d lend that assumption to Volo being an ancestor of Cynthia as well, right?

What if we were just meant to assume that?

What if Volo is long-lived, or even immortal, and the champion we all know and love in the modern Sinnoh era, is in fact the same person?

Appearance-wise, Volo could pass for Cynthia (given a new hairdo), and perhaps through clever feats of disguise; or if they’re, in fact, agender or genderfluid and able to pass as either of the two traditional binary genders; or if she’s transgender entirely, the chances are of Volo actually being Cynthia are not entirely remote. (I should make a disclaimer here, I’m not trans or non-binary, so if this seems like a misappropriation of these gender identities for this theory, I do apologize. I mean no offence or misuse.)

This doesn’t necessarily account for the changes in personality though. But you know what does change a person’s personality and perspective?

Time.

Legends: Arceus takes place at least 200 years before the Diamond and Pearl games, I believe. I know people whose entire personality and perspective have changed over just a decade. I know I’m a vastly different person than I was ten or even five years ago.

Assuming Legends is set in the same universe and timeline as the Sinnoh we all know, could the protagonist in this newest pokemon game set Volo on a new path by defeating him? Maybe Volo discovered a better path for himself all on his own during those centuries. Or maybe Cynthia is just very good at burying her Volo-esque impulses behind that champion facade in the Diamond and Pearl games...

We should also consider that Volo uses the same exact team as Cynthia, barring Milotic (which isn’t in Legends, so maybe that’s more technical reason than a lore one). Sure, we know that many ancestor characters use the same pokemon as their descendants. But most seem to use only one. Volo uses five of the same pokemon as Cynthia. As the old saying goes, once is chance, twice is coincidence, thrice is a pattern... and so on.

Wrong or right, the idea intrigues me, because I can’t just believe they’d throw in the word “centuries” for no good reason in that one line of dialogue.

3. how long have you been a sonic fan?

oh god okay so my sonic origin story is that when i was around 11 or 12 i caught some of satam then ended up binging all of it, then found out that it half continues in the comic series and binged ALL of archie (by that point they were at least 220+ issues in along with the side series like sonic universe, so when i say all i meant ALL of it) ... so by all technicalities it's been a little over a decade now

back then tho i didn't do anything like draw or look for fanart or read fics specifically for sonic (aka like, "fandom consumption" i suppose), so it feels kinda weird to say it's been that long even tho it's true !! i saw a weird little blue guy sayin shit like "way past cool" and "gotta juice" and i was like oh i have to find out what his deal is actually

4. favorite male characters?

sonic characters are forever playing spinball in my brain to determine who's my favorite but im what you call a basic bastard and tend to enjoy main characters/protags/main cast of most media i consume and sonic is no different (ofc there are times where side charas become my favorite but. well. not this series)

when i was younger i thought blaze was so fucking cool, i would always pick to play as her for mario and sonic at the olympic games LMAOO she was by far my favorite kinda overall as a child ...

now im a misogynist /j i just tend to like a lot of the male cast over the female cast (which. well. it doesn't help that there's a lot more male characters and a lot more focus on them anyhow) the comics really tend to add a lot more cool female charas to help that out... i fucking Love bunnie and sally still, tangle and whisper from idw have really been getting up there + surge's design is so good

shy emoji i already answered this one with my confession i haven't played any sonic games hehe. teehee. tho i suppose if u count the olympic games one that's the only one on my resume for realsies so far </3 my favorites are based on plot and stuff like visuals .... i'm expecting sonic frontiers to become my first sonic game but i've also been meaning to play sa2 on steam whenever i get the video game urge again i've been slacking as a gamer

27. what do you like about the fandom?

sonic fandom is like. notorious. as we all know GJKLDGAS so i like to poke fun and stuff about it pretty often ... especially the more gamerbro side of it (the side that instantly panned frontiers as shit based on the first footage we ever saw of it that only really showed a bit of environment and movement. u know)

but it's genuinely such a passionate fanbase, like the sheer amount of fans and the amount of fanworks is always so astounding to me. it's notorious but that's probably because people care so much yknow ... people feel things A Lot for sonic as a series. if someone told me sonic has the most video game mods and fangames Ever i would fully believe that

+ fanart, fics, WHOLE animations and animated series and like the fucking sonic and tails radio my beloved and stuff ... so much is made every day even during lull periods between games or nothing rlly happening. crazy shit! people LOVE that goddamn hedgehog!!! so many people like it enough to MAKE stuff for him!!!!!! insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a Star Wars fan, but

and that’s a big but.

I started watching star wars in 2017 in my June vacays from college, my friends just sent me the movie files and one day I decided to watch it, I looked at the file “Episode I” and decided that was the first one to watch lol no one explained shit, okay? and all I knew abt star wars was that this Dude Luke Skywalker saved the galaxy by killing his dad Darth Vader. So, imagine my surprise when the Skywalker I meet is this lil kid Anakin!! and I loved him!!! who needs Luke, Luke was old and boring.

So anyway, after 3 episodes of pure ENTERTAINMENT, I reached Episode IV, and I was like “this looks older- wait a seconde” and that’s when I decided to text my friend and ask him wtf was that and he laughed and said I started it all wrong, now I was meeting the real main characters. and so I watched 3 more episodes (kind of, episode 6 was boring af by the middle so I dozed off a bit, I just remember tiny bears and the happy ending)

FINALLY I had watched the famous star wars main story…I like 1 2 and 3 way more tho. u see, I already knew Hayden and so I fell for Anakin as soon as episode 2 started. but then I also fell head over heels for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the man was gorgeous since episode 1 and I just UGH HE WAS PERFECT. (still have a huge crush on Ewan btw). and on episode 3-4-5 the best person was Leia, the rest was a cocky guy with a ship, a spoiled brat with a lightsaber and a Furry coat. Oh wait I had a crush on R2D2, don’t ask.

btw the reason why I started star wars was bcs I saw a really cool fanart of Reylo and I fell in love with the ship.

so here I come episode 7!! and DAMN I LOVED EPISODE 7 SO MUCH MORE THAN 4-5-6, u can judge me, I’m not really into old stuff. Reylo was a big reason, but I loved seeing the new characters, the fresh new story, Leia was the leader now, and everything was so damn fun. I just loved it.

then 8 came out and I also liked it a lot, I even started liking Luke, finally understood why everyone liked him so much. 9 came and I was so excited for it. I did like it a lot, but I literally started it for Reylo, him dying on the end did NOT make me happy.

after becoming a Widow of Reylo, I decided that was enough of Star Wars for me, specially since the fandom sucks, everywhere I look it’s a bunch of conceited old straight cis men, bunch of incels everywhere.

BUT, The Mandalorian Happened while I was traveling and some day I was bored so I decided to watch bcs everyone was talking abt BABY YODA lol. and damn, I did NOT expect to fall all over again for this galactic nonsense. but I did, and I fell off a cliff.

and when I heard (me the ultimate young obi-wan kenobi fan, in love w/ Hayden Christensen since I was 9) that Obi-Wan was getting a series???!!!! Oh I was EXCITED. and I didn’t even know Hayden would be in it, I was just excited for Ewan.

Mandalorian season 2 was even greater, when Luke showed up I could break wine glasses with my screams. Grogu my dead Child. Bobba Fett was also dope, I only cared abt the last 3 episodes tho.

and now Obi-Wan is finally out, and it is FAR SO VERY FAR BEYOND ANY OF MY EXPECTATIONS.

1st of all we have Hayden, my beloved Hayden. I heard he received lots of backlash for the role of Anakin/Vader (like I said, shitty fandom) back in the days, so I’m even more excited for his comeback, Yasss king!!!

2nd we have baby Leia!!!!! that child is really just a miniature of Leia Organa herself, and I have the papers ready to adopt her as mine and Obi’s

3rd and most important, we have my husby, Obi-Wan Kenobi. and u know what? he is weak, he is old, he has so much facial hair, he can’t sleep, he doesn’t bath often, he is clearly depressed af, he is hopeless. BUT THATS WHAT I LOVE ABT IT. he is HUMAN AND REAL. ugh, srsly I suck at putting it into words so I have to say: watch it.

is the zodiac academy really worth it? because I want something new to read but there are so many mixed reviews 👀

the tldr for this is yes as long as you know what you’re getting into. but there’s nothing i love more than explaining my own thoughts so i will also gladly elaborate despite no one asking

the reason i picked up this series was that i wanted something to read that would keep my attention for awhile, plus i was specifically looking for something with a large fandom following so there was actually content and this series has a lot of tiktoks, fanart, memes etc etc. so in that sense it has paid off as expected. i also didn’t have super high expectations which i think made my reading experience more reasonable. plus, i think that right before the last book releases is the prime time to read any long series - you get the excitement of a release without having to wait to long on cliffhangers multiple times and never have to reread

i have rated the books decently so far (pretty much a 3.5 for all of them which on my scale equates to being “fine”) and i saw someone on reddit (who would have thought i’d ever find myself on za reddit?!) ask why someone else kept reading the series if they rated it so low and the best explanation i saw was that it’s kind of like the twilight series - technically, the books aren’t written very well but i enjoy reading them because they’re entertaining. there’s a lot of typos (which tbh i think is kind of elitist when people complain about), weird inconsistencies in terms of british v american spellings/phrases (i didn’t think they were supposed to have british accents but the characters will sometimes use a british turn of phrase and confuse me because the girls that are supposed to be from chicago do it too - but the authors are british i believe so it makes sense), very basic and irrelevant plotlines (i’m literally just here for the romance, which has honestly gone downhill overtime lol), and so on. but i didn’t come into this fantasy romance series, literally called “zodiac academy” ffs, expecting any level of high literature. i’m just here for some mindless entertainment and so far it has been the perfect series to give me a laugh when i’m stressed over classes

i would say the biggest issue people have with the series is that it’s a bully romance…..which is strange because it could not be any more advertised as such. like, that’s how it’s marketed, there are content warnings at the beginning of each book, fantasy romance is often pretty dark, etc. so if you’re not someone who likes that but reads it anyway and then criticizes it for containing the thing it was advertised as….i can’t help you there lol.

however i’m actually going to contradict this a little to say that i think “bully romance” is somewhat of a misnomer in this situation. i don’t blame people or the authors for labeling it this way since it does take place in a school setting but i really think that’s the only thing that even qualifies it as such? i see the conflict as much more being a political rivalry so while it’s definitely enemies to lovers, i wouldn’t categorize it as “bullying” in the same sense i’ve never seen anyone call tfota a bully romance despite cardan also terrorizing jude when they were at school together. the conflict is solely politically driven and the people involved have mutual animosity. the “bullies” only have the edge because they have more magical knowledge but the twins that are getting bullied never lie down and take it and are actually even more powerful than them. if they truly are bullies, they’re pretty bad at it lol.

all this is to say, i usually hate bully romance novels but i really don’t mind it here at all. i think it’s a combination of the fact that the reason for their cruelty isn’t some bs “i’m depressed” “my parents hit me so i’ll hit you” “you’re so attractive that it makes me mad” etc and is actually literally only coming from a place of political strife, which is also known the whole time. like it’s never some secret that ends up getting revealed as for why the bullies act the way they do - it’s always known and they all even manage to get along / laugh together a lot because they get along as people despite their opposing statuses in life. i also think that because it isn’t your average standalone or duology bullying, but instead a whole series, the antagonists have a lot more time to change and grow in both the eyes of the reader and the twins

there’s also a teacher student romance with an age gap of 8 (i think?) years which if anyone knows me, knows is soooo not my cup of tea. but for some reason i like it here 🤭 i just think they’re really cute. but also when pll was airing i was a diehard ezria and now i can only look back at that time and cringe so i can only hope hindsight will be kind to me in this situation too

people also give it a lot of slack for being repetitive which i don’t really have a problem with. like i said, the fantasy/political elements are just plain bad anyway so i’m only here for the romance and interpersonal drama but even when i’m reading something play out that we’ve already seen i’m never like “ugh this again” i’m like “yessss omg this again” and pulling out some popcorn knowing it’s just good drama lol. i think the people who have this critique must not be reality tv fans who have to watch the same episodes week after week and the same seasons with production’s perfect unoriginally crafted drama every year lol

the last thing i’ll say i like about this is just that i think the series is funny and it has a good friend group! even when they’re against each other the characters have great connections and banter and plenty of scenes spent in each other’s orbit without all the negativity so it’s all leading towards a very nicely crafted found family plot that is chef’s kiss. they are a messy group of friends and like half of them have slept together and the other half has tried to but THEYRE MY MESSY GROUP OF FRIENDS!

Books that I read in January 2024

This month's reading was largely guided by the fact that House of Flame and Shadow was going to be released at the end of the month and I wanted to finish off the Throne of Glass series before HOFAS' release in case there were Easter eggs or important details from that series that would make reading HOFAS better. I was also in a difficult mental state in January so I read a lot to compensate for that feeling.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas: I started reading the Throne of Glass series late last year and boy were the first few books tough for me to get through. Heir of Fire is where I found that things were picking up and I found this book to be an improvement from previous books. This is a book that I borrowed from my local library and have no intention of owning. I gave this book a 3/5.

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas: I think out of all the books in this series, this one was my favorite. The story and the characters are engaging and things are moving along quite nicely. This a book that I borrowed from my local library and have no intention of owning. I gave this book a 4/5

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas: I have similar thoughts about this book as I do Queen of Shadows. My only complaint was that this book was perhaps a little longer than necessary. This is a book that I borrowed from my local library and have no intention of owning. I gave this book a 4/5

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas: This book was way too long for my liking. Things took way to long to happen and by far my least favorite part was whenever the book cut back to Lysandra and Aelion. The final battle felt anti-climactic. Elide doing a rescue towards the end of the battle was the only tension and exciting thing that happened. All I could think during this book was "please, just end." This is a book that I borrowed from my local library and have no intention of owning. I gave this book 2/5

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black: Reading this book after crawling through the Throne of Glass series was like taking a breath of fresh air. I haven't read many books with faeries in them, but this one is by far my favorite series. Actually well done enemies to lovers set in an interesting world. I own this book. I gave this book a 5/5

The Wicked King by Holly Black: This book picks up right where The Cruel Prince left off and is a good sequel. I was intrigued by Jude's struggle with what she feels is right and how that affects her loved ones. I own this book. I gave this book a 5/5

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black: This was a great way to end the trilogy. I don't have much more to say, because there's not much more for me to say. I love this series. I own this book. I gave this book a 5/5

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross: I read this book upon BookTok's recommendation and it was not good as people made it out to be. I was expecting way more than what I got. The story definitely has potential but it falls flat and it's rushed. I think that this was a subpar attempt at rivals to lovers, but also this book got me wondering if I even like the rivals to lovers trope (next month I would find out that no, I am not interested this trope). I read this book on Kindle Unlimited and have no intention of owning it. I gave this book 3/5

The Goddess and the Hawk by Chiara Gala: I stumbled upon fanart of this book on Instagram and was interested in what I saw and decided to give this book a try. It was definitely not what I was expecting and it's different from what I read. I tend to stray from books with polyamory as it's not something I'm interested in reading, but I didn't mind it at all in this book. I think it was well handled. As a heads up, this book is the most NSFW book out of all the books on this list for January and you definitely should be 18+ to read this book due to the frequent mature content and themes. I read this book on Kindle Unlimited and do not plan on owning this book. I gave this book 4/5

No, and yes. Raph a bit too focused on doing for his family before hand. And well there really wasn't like an option for him to crush on I do headcannon this version of Raph to be pansexual but that's more from hin consuming media and finding charaters attractive despite gender. Considering his interest in a sicfi series. His first crush wasn't till Yvoone. He just clicked with her and found he enjoyed spending time around her a lot. She was an escape from his responsibilities, someone he only needed to be rapheal around. But they are friends and he didn't want to risk ruining that because well he dosent have many friends cause mtuan and all.

I don't care what anyone wants to say the moment Casey saved his ass from the subway train hitting him, Raph got feelings. Casey definitely was his first crush he just didn't act on that crush because he knows Casey likes April. Being Casey friend comes first and he just didn't want anything todo with the nonsense when he was happy enough being friends. Course he was able to understand where Casey was at when he got his own heart broken since well Raph knew how it felt to like someone who likes someone else.

In terms of other crushes yeah Raph has had a few.

Fictional:

Despite him calling it lame he ends up liking the show super robo mecha force five. Princess being his favorite and he thinks she's cute, even pointing out his liking for the character. He's drawn fanart of her a lot uwu

This boy gets crushes as much as he kicks ass. But they never last long. They are all fast and quick and he moves on from it. Expect when he developed a crush on his best friend Casey. Raph just assumed it fade but it never did and he had to fave that facts that he it was more than a crush. I like to think he sort of probe his brothers mostly donnie if anything to try and figure out what was going on with him. Thought something was wrong turns out it was romance xD. His hesitance was well the whole human mutant thing. He had no idea Casey would even consider that between them he still fesses up but he was expecting a rejection.

Other crushes again he has crushed more but these are notable enough for me to point out slash I like the ships XD

Joi Look im one of the fans that feel like it came off as him having a crush on her. He like a strong girl what can he say.

Traxumis (sort relationship never official thing) Look again Raph likes someone who can kick his ass. He and Traxiums got to fight in the battle Nexus and it was a tough even match, that Raph won and if you think he didn't get a thrill out of topping a big guy like him? They built a friendship pretty fast. He even clamed Raph down and went along with Raph's dumb plan to help Splinter out. (i hate them for that stupid plan they are so fucking dumb I love them also XD) They never went to far unless ever brought up I wont go into details but it was a very short lived thing cause well he isn't Casey. Traxumis offer the whole no issue of dating a human issue sure and Raph gets along with him great, but he's not Casey.

Demigod MC Series: Athena

So. I have to deal with the virgin goddesses… By mythos, there really shouldn't ever be children of Artemis, Hestia, or Athena (yes, Athena was a virgin goddess). PJ got past that by making it canon that Annabeth and her siblings were born from cracking open Athena's skull (yes, that's also more or less the canon explanation). They gloss over it real quick but I remember, Rick. I've always remembered and that mental image has haunted me for years...

I can't, in good conscience, ignore the history around Athena's worship (call it an academic restraint) but I REFUSE to do the skull thing. So, since I make the rules here, I'm going with magic adoption. They still get magic powers, they're just more human than demigod. Cool? Cool.

Lucifer

The human that popped out of the portal seemed to have enough sense not to attack everyone in the room for a change, but even Lucifer could tell that was more of a strategic choice than for lack of ability...

Their very existence was highly unusual… and quite worrisome. He wasn't even aware Athena could have "children" of her own, but apparently she had been taking in some particularly bright humans to raise and train like her own...

Unbeknownst to him, a surprising amount of human scholars, diplomats, and generals have her to thank for their trade… and that alone should speak to the level of intrigue at play here.

Was this an accident or Athena's attempt to plant an Olympian spy in the Devildom too…? Either way, he didn't trust them from the get go…

Look, Lucifer isn’t stupid. Athena is a goddess of Wisdom and War and war happens on more than just the battlefield…

Since they've shown up records have been going missing, official documents keep getting misplaced, and he swears that there's some kind of bug in the student council room...!

It's infuriating watching the MC suck up to Diavolo when he's almost certain that they're running their own agenda behind the scenes! And he can't prove any of it!! They cover their tracks too well!

Lucifer has one of those corkboards covered in newspapers and string in a secret wing of the Castle - 100% dedicated to just tracking the MC's activities…. The longer they're there, the more obsessed he becomes...

He swears between Simeon, Solomon, and MC he feels like a shepherd wondering why the sheep are growling… The Devildom has never been in more danger than it is right now... Send help.

Mammon

To be honest, he kind of thought that they were just going to be Satan 2.0 but that's not really true.

They're more than just a book sponge! Though they do read, like a lot. Let’s just say from one schemer to another… Game recognizes Game.

They come up with plans and ideas soooo fast, it’s insane! Honestly, there are times where he has a new money-making plot and he just brings it to the MC first to run it over.

Nine times out of ten, not only do they sniff out any problems but they have a solution for him in a matter of minutes! His scheme game has been on point since they’ve shown up!!

They’re also even better tutoring than Satan is, so he’s even managed to get a couple A’s for the first time in his life! Lucifer actually told him he was proud (which he secretly recorded and now uses as a ringtone much to his brother’s regret...)

So yeah, he likes them... buuut that doesn’t keep him from thinking they act a little weird sometimes...

Mammon: *points to a unused tower close to the RAD building* Over there is the Tower of Sorrow. We use it for storage.

MC: Ah. Interesting… *starts writing in a notebook, muttering* It may need a few minor tweaks but the location is defensible...

Mammon: *stops* Ya say somethin’?

MC: *looks back up* Nope! Say, you’ve been to the Castle a lot haven’t you? Do you know any good ways in?

Mammon: Uhm… Why do ya want to know that…? *starts looking around for Lucifer*

MC: In case of emergencies. I like being prepared. 🙂

Mammon: Look, I don’t know what Lucifer might’a told ya…

MC: I’ll pay you a thousand Grimm for it.

Mammon: Well shit, ya want those maps with or without color?

... Yeeeah, that’s pretty weird… But it’s probably fine. I mean, as long as they keep giving him money, who’s he to complain? 🤷‍♀️

Leviathan

Also thought that they’d be a lot more like Satan but was pleasantly surprised that they were into more than books.

What else did they like exactly? Military strategy!!

It’s been a looong time since he’s been able to talk to someone who’s actually interested in all the battles he’s fought, both in the Celestial Realm and the Devildom, and their curiosity is kind of flattering...! Not a lot of people take his strategic prowess all that seriously anymore...

Plus, they are the BEST partner to have any turn-based strategy game. Hands down. He once got stuck on a level of D-COM for weeks until the MC walked in and mopped the floor with the AI!! They have a serious head for probability and tactics.

The House once made the mistake of letting these two be on the same team during a Hell Game and they absolutely demolished the competition. Mammon didn’t even get a single shot off before half his team was lost to a rigged paint grenade… It took a whole day to clean up…

However, Levi’s also noticed some odd things about the human… He likes that they’re interested in his past but maybe they’re a little… too interested?

Levi: -and that’s how we defeated the Four Horsemen before they escaped from Purgatory.

MC: Wow, Levi that’s seriously impressive!! *furiously scribbling on a notebook*

Levi: Well t-thanks… 😅 But, uhm... are you writing that down…?

MC: Hm? Oh no, just doodling. *they lift up the notebook to show a bunch of cute little sketches on the page… and not the magic-based invisible ink all over them…*

Levi: Oh you draw too? Can you do fanart???

MC: Eh, sometimes. But say Levi, can you tell me about your naval ranks again? I’m still really curious… *gets the pen ready again with a smile*

Satan

Oh, it's been a long game of cat-and-mouse between these two… and unfortunately, it’s been pretty addicting too.

He honestly had every intention of tricking the human into making a huge mess do he could bother Lucifer, but at every turn they proved just a hair too clever for him...

He once gave them a cursed book to “lend” to Lucifer, but they saw through it the moment they touched it and lifted the spell before handing it over.

He rigged a podium to spray glitter during one of Lucifer's speeches but the MC disconnected the trigger mic before he even got on stage. It was pretty dang frustrating...

At one point he got so desperate that, just as a test, he tried to trap them in the House's Music Room. Fortunately for them, it only took a few minutes to work out an escape. They even passed by him in the hallway with a wink!

It's confounding! It's infuriating!!

...and it's so damn sexy... He should be furious but he’s just in awe!!

Add on that they know their art, literature, and multiple different crafts thanks to the tutelage of their adopted mother and that’s it. He’s finished. This boy is in love.

Truthfully though, a part of him is 90% sure that they’re also gathering state secrets… Like, they’re watching Barbs and Diavolo far too close for comfort - but he just can't bring himself to care. 🤷‍♀️

The MC could walk into his room one day and say, "Hey, do you want to help overthrow the monarchy with me?" and he dreads it because deep down he knows that he wouldn’t say no…

Take some notes, kids. Some bad influences get you to drink or do drugs. Others pull you into a centuries long conspiracy to destabilize and topple rival realms from within… But he has fallen for their brain hard. Devil help them all…

Asmodeus

They’re pretty clever, he’ll give them that, but uh… Are they a little off to anybody else?

Asmo is a charmer by birthright so he has a bit of nose for when someone’s just a liiittttle too nice… Not much of a nose mind you, because he can be thrown off by compliments himself, but enough to think that the MC might be a little too… “kind” for their own good...

First off, who wants to spend that much time with Levi?? They don’t even seem that interested in anime! They just keeping asking him for old war stories…

Then all the sucking up they do to Diavolo and Barbatos? Look, he gets it. Diavolo is a delicious piece of man-hunk and his butler could give him a lesson or two in sweet-talk (and he has), but they seem to be just a little too… nosy.

Of course, Asmo’s suspicions disappear pretty quickly after they start to spoil him with spa nights and beauty secrets they picked up from “casual research” into the subject.

And you know, get a little Demonus in Asmo and start massaging his back? Oh, sweetie he’ll sing like a bird!! … with gossip. Singing with gossip.

Asmo: So I’ve heard that Lucifer has been spending more time at RAD than usual… His whole club is talking about it, they think he’s meeting with some witch!

MC: Hm, is that so? *works on a knot near his shoulder blades* What do you think?

Asmo: Ooh~! Right there, MC! *purrs and lays his head on his arms* Well come on, this is Lucifer we’re talking about! I’m sure he’s just working.

Asmo: Hmm... though come to think of it, I think I heard him asking Barbatos for the spare keys to the Tower of Sorrow…

MC: Oh really? Huh. *works out the knot and gets up* I just remembered that I left some papers with Satan... I’ll be right back.

Asmo: You’re going already??

MC: *waves him off quickly* I’ll be right back, Asmo. *hurries out the door to do totally on-the-up-and-up things… surely*

Beelzebub

Honestly he doesn't like this one… But not for the reasons you'd expect.

He agrees with everyone else that they seem a little shady, but Solomon and Simeon are too so it's not like that's anything new... 🤷‍♀️

No, no. He dislikes them because they're the person who FINALLY figured out how to keep him from eating all the food in the kitchen!!

Turns out that the trick was to put a teleportation charm on the fridge door that would send all the food away if it’s opened after a certain time of night…

And where does it go? The Purgatory Hall fridge. And where does the Purgatory Hall food go…? The HoL fridge…

It doesn’t sound so bad until you remember that it means half of their fridge is now Solomon’s leftovers…. 🤢

After they put the same kind of spell on the pantry, it was all over… He couldn't get midnight snacks from the House anymore… Everything was contaminated by Solomon…

The MC is a nice enough person, he doesn’t have a lot of complaints about them, but he wants them to leave. Now. This is inexcusable… He’s so hungry… and he doesn’t want to die by “goulash” or whatever Solomon calls his latest culinary catastrophe… He’s still too young for death… 😓

Belphegor

In a way, he absolutely could not have asked for a better person to help him get out of that attic.

… In another way, he got one of the worst possible people to try and kill... Like. They saw through his scheme sooo fast…

How was he supposed to know that the human had training in body language and sniffing out lies???

Getting the door open was a piece of cake for them. They knew enough magic to undo the seals and just rummaged around Lucifer's stuff long enough to find the key to the door. He could not have found a more competent individual for a break out, really.

It’s just… well he didn’t expect to go from locked in a room like a prisoner to tied up in enchanted rope, still like a prisoner but now mobile. 😑

They even used his own hug ruse against him! They caught his wrists when they got close and tied him up before he could shake them off...

Admittedly, it wasn't exactly the best look for them either - what with walking Belphegor downstairs to the others like a one-man-prison-caravan but they're as silver-tongued as they are sly so they talked their way out of it beautifully…

And like hell was he going to trust them after that!! And not even Beel liked them so something had to be up...

Well, you want a detective? Look no farther than Belphie (no seriously, it’s in the canon). He can put things together pretty fast when he puts his mind to it and watching the MC for a while gave him enough proof to work off of...

He always knew that, humans were bad news and the MC just proved it to him all over again. They are bad news, bad bad news and they’re going to-!

Overthrow… Diavolo…? Is that what he is getting from them…? Huh…

Wait a second, MC. You might just have him interested… 😏

Thought process and easter egg on the Digimon Anniversary Illustration!

Hello everyone, today I feel like explaining some stuff over my Digimon Illustration, mostly why I drew thing this way or point out some little details and easter eggs you might have missed. ;)

The Digimon illustration was a special one for me for different reasons. Firstly, obviously, Digimon! It was a show I grew up with, and I find it quite fitting that after a tough year of graduation movie under a pandemic, in which I really experienced the pain of growing up, I ended up finding back Digimon.

Secondly, as a child, I remember spending HOURS looking for fanarts online! I would save all the ones I found pretty and keep them preciously, i still have the folders actually haha. While pursuing art, I always had in mind thatI wanted one day to make a fanart my child self would have gone crazy over! And, i think I achieved that with that one haha.

Anyway LET’S START! Shall we?

First off : the illustration process

When I do an illustration I always do a quick draft first, and most of the time, in colors. I think I’m more of a “color” person than a “line” person, I tend to need to see colors quickly in order to see if it’s ok.

For this one, I’ve always had in mind it would be a double illustration, with the older Tai’s silhouette acting as a frame for the children illustration. It was a bit tricky, I had to make the children illustration fit nicely into his silhouette, it was hassle around the neck area, that’s why I made little Taichi stand up haha. Also used Mimi’s hat to balance the picture : the bottom part is very heavy and there’s only sky in the upper part, adding the hat helps making it more balanced.

The character were the longest and the most challenging part by far. As you can see I had 3 different steps : super rough, they’re almost like stickmen and smiley face, a more detailled one in which I figure out their actual pose and anatomy, then a last one in which I fix some proportion, add details and clean. Fun fact I don’t clean over a new layer... i just erase the unwanted part of my sketch. :’D

I did a quick pass over the BG after that, then I colored the characters in flat colors before rendering them. It was a back and forth between the BG and the characters to make sure everything was working together nicely.

Now was the time to render the BG, I did the tramway first, the flower field after. Fun fact, I did my flower field study in order to know how to approach the flowers in this illustration! If your have the time, i totally recommend finding a photograph close to the kind of BG you wanna do, and make a study of it so you can try your hand at it first and go into your own BG later with an idea of how to approach this.

Adjust colors, add flower petals and butterflies and emotional text, slap over a paper texture, and THERE. You have it! On to the next part now...

The meaningful details and easter eggs

Be aware there will be spoilers for Digimon Adventure 01 (but I assume you already know it), but also for Digimon Adventure : Last evolution Kizuna, which is the conclusion of the first serie. So read at your own risk!

The tramway is obviously a reference to the end of Digimon Adventure 01. The kids used it to go back to their world, so It was their goodbye to their Digimon at this moment. In Kizuna, Tai and Matt find the tramway trapped in crystal in Menoa’s fake memory world. Hinting that had they been caught by her, their memories would have brought them back here.

Tailmon has Kari’s whistle! At the end of Digimon Adventure 01, Kari gives it to her as a memento.

When I drew Sora, I had in mind how she was in Kizuna, very stressed out by her mom’s expectation, which led her to neglect Piyomon. She realized it too late, and after that she refused to fight because she wanted to keep Piyomon with her as long as possible. Tragically, she was the first one to lose her Digimon. Here I tried to convey a softness and a kind of “I won’t forget to appreciate you” vibe in the way she holds Piyomon’s hand. As for Mimi and Palmon, in Digimon adventure 01 Palmon was very emotionally affected by Mimi’s departure, so, a hug was fitting. :’)

The screens on the Tramway display DA for Digimon Adventure, and also 01.08.1999 which is the date of the children’s journey’s beginning. :)

The little drawings also show the 8 crests.

There are butterflies flying over the illustration, it’s a reference to Butter-fly, the first Digimon opening, by the late Koji Wada.

"I'll become a happy butterfly, and ride on the glittering wind, I'll come and see you soon. “

Now, let’s the see the counterpart of the illustration. The one with the grown up Tai from Kizuna.

I made him wear the hoodie he had in his very last adventure with Agumon.... but truthfully the reason is that I think hoodies are cool lol. And the hood’s volume gave me more space in the silhouette, which made it easier for me to do the other illustration inside.

You don’t see it clearly, but he is holding his Digivice, albeit the darkened version once his partner bond with Agumon is broken. The Tai in this illustration has already lost Agumon. (Yes it was painful for me to go fetch the screenshots)

He is also holding his dear signature google he used to wear as a child. Fun fact, I rewatched the older movies, and as a kid he even used to sleep with it, how cute haha.

Also yes, the crest of Courage over his hand, which is his own. I’m so dumb I realize I should have made the time counter from the movie instead of the crest for a maximum emotional hurt impact.

And the quote is from one of the trailer for Kizuna, I think.....................

But then you go : Oh that illustration is so depressing then! Well. Yes. But no. but yes. But not really.

One of my favorite shot of the movie is this one : this is after Tai and Agumon learn their time together is limited. Agumon asks him if they will have to go separate ways once Tai is all grown up. Tai doesn’t answer, and takes him to eat something instead, as Agumon was hungry. In this shot Agumon eats to his heart content next to Tai, who’s not eating at all and just watches him fondly. I love that the framing doesnt show agumon. It’s a foreshadowing of their unavoidable separation.

At the very end of the movie, Tai write in his thesis about Human and Digimon’s relationship that Agumon was like a part of himself.

In a way, Agumon symbolizes childhood, the carefree days we would spend as a kid, with our big dreams and hopes. When you grow up, you tend to forget those simple emotions because you get swallowed into the stress of studies, figuring out your carreer, your life path. Just like us, Tai forgot this part of himself. In the madness of growing up, he lost Agumon.

However, it’s not the end. He will pick himself back up. He will move forward in life despite his worries and incertainities, and he will find himself again. Therefore, he will find Agumon again. The kids in the illustration are waving goodbye, but it’s not goodbye, it’s a see you later. In the meantime, Tai is holding on to these precious memories, until they meet again.

So I've been seeing a lot of back and forth about fandom and demographics and sexism and so forth surrounding FGO and the lack of content for male characters, and a lot of good points have been raised but there's a factor that seems to be consistently missing in a lot of these discussions:

Have you ever noticed how eerily quiet this fandom is for its size?

I mean, the trickle of fan content beyond glamour paintings and pinups of individual faves. Cosplay photos rarely focus on what the characters do, only on making the subject look attractive, to a far greater extent than in other fandoms I've cosplayed for, and if you think the male characters are underrepresented in FGO canon, well, try and find any cosplays of some of them (I am working at becoming the first 3rd ascension Siegfried I've ever seen). Fanfics are pretty uncommon. Fanfics that focus on the relationships between established characters rather than someone's Gudasona, even rarer - and I'm not saying this to say there's anything wrong with self-inserting, especially not when it's all but begged for by the canon, in fact I love and adore all my friends' Gudasonas, but it illustrates something about the composition of the fandom as a whole. It's especially fascinating and unsettling because - look at this franchise. No, really, look at it. It doesn't just demand self-insertion; it is the ambitious crossover of almost everything in the public domain, with an extensively built yet flexible world (the rules are what they are until they're dramatically convenient to break, there are multiple canon timelines, etc.); it is the kind of thing that is BEGGING for fan creativity and unofficial stories, and they just...aren't there.

Or, well, they are there, but not nearly as much as you would expect when this franchise, with such a great formula for fan creativity, has been going for like 20 years and you can survive on nothing but official licensed Fate series merch. No, really. Click the link.

Normally if you gave that much merch to a fandom this (seemingly) small, it would be the biggest and most obvious financial blunder since Cave Johnson, yet somehow this series keeps churning as a massive success.

Meaning there is a quiet, often silent side of this fandom.

So let's talk demographics and fandom behavior.

Fandom behavior exists on a spectrum from curatory to transformative. On the extreme of the curatory side, there are the supercollectors, the people who get into debates over wiki accuracy that make literary academic fights look tame, the people who sit down and review the canon 20 times to show the most accurate timelines possible that we all check as religiously as if they were official - the curatory side of a fandom is the people who are Just Here For The Canon. On the extreme of the transformative side, the people who ask "hey what if this character from my OTHER favorite game was the self-insert protagonist for THIS game?", the people who create big ambitious crossovers between Demon Slayer and Spongebob with guest characters from a dozen other pieces of media set against the backdrop of the Great Molasses Flood of Boston, and the people who, just through trial and error, understand the mechanics of how that time Goofy fucking died in Kingdom Hearts was actually pretty poignant in context (hint: ANYTHING can be if the viewer is immersed enough).

Of course, it's a spectrum. Most people are not either of those extremes. Most fanfic authors like to maintain a little more connection to canon, many people both write fanfics and collect figures (hi, I'm one of them), most AUs try to maintain a certain level of paralleling canon, and fanart can be ANYWHERE on this spectrum as can cosplay (ask me about my Berserker!Sieg cosplay in progress! ), but for the most part fandom happens in the middle.

But, there is a demographic trend. Namely, men tend to lean more curatory, and women tend to lean more transformative. Or, to go even deeper, straight men tend to lean curatory; women and queer people of all genders tend to slide more transformative, and in my experience disability also often makes people slide further toward the transformative end - because ultimately, while this isn't always the case, transformative fandom is often a response to clicking with a piece of media but being unable to shake the fact that this was...definitely not made for you.

And in my observation the quietest (and most obnoxious) place on the spectrum is Curatory Lite - i.e., you're collecting stuff, you're probably a canon purist, you might be one of those obnoxious dudes who quizzes female cosplayers on the timeline of the media they're cosplaying from because you think the Only Way To Fandom is to be as obsessed with canon trivia as you, but you're probably not getting into fights with other dudes on the internet about illustrated timelines or bitching on Twitter that you don't like this canon twist so they NEED to change it for YOU because fanfic is beneath you.

This is, unfortunately, probably our silent majority.

This is, unfortunately, probably where the money is coming from.

Now, I don't think this means we should stop saying "hey, guys, this is fucking ridiculous," nor am I saying it's hopeless.

What I'm saying is, if you're wondering how this can continue despite the fact that damned near everyone who's TALKING hates it, even the straight men, even the official artists...look at how many people are talking, compared to how much merch is selling.

The point is that it's, uh. I fear it may be more of an uphill battle than the near unanimous discussion makes it seem.

Suna x reader: Final part (smut)

Here’s the final part to my Suna series! I wasn’t satisfied with my fluff version of the ending (which you can read here if you’re interested) so I decided to write a more smutty version.

Warning: degradation, angry sex, light choking, mostly just a lot of degrading lol

Despite Kita seeing you that day in the car, Suna still asked to keep whatever was between you a secret. That was fine with you--you didn’t particularly want a boyfriend, especially with the second semester of college work picking up. You still got to see him pretty often, hooking up in his car or your dorm at least three nights a week or more. Never the frat house; apparently his roommates were annoying.

It was nice. Easy. Far easier than you ever expected friends with benefits to be. And beyond the sex, you loved talking to Suna; laying together on your tiny bed, legs tangled, while he explained the new music he was listening to, or walking together to the cafeteria as he made you laugh so hard that water came out of your nose.

The good parts were enough to overlook the bad parts. At first.

Suna was an abnormally horrific texter, barely ever responding within the day, if at all. If you ever wanted to get in contact with him, you’d have to call directly. And honestly even then he didn’t have the best track record.

What was more frustrating was that it was always on his time. He would text you asking to hang out that night, and you would say yes, and then he wouldn’t respond until the following afternoon with some vague excuse about being busy. The first few times it happened, you got so mad that you didn’t respond to his calls, until he showed up at your dorm with panda express and forced you to watch Tokyo Ghoul with him.

He had apologized...but it didn’t stop happening. It made you feel like you were some sort of side whore, who he called when he was bored and had nothing better to do. Like you were second best to everything else he had going on in his life.

You had promised yourself from the beginning that you wouldn’t allow yourself to get close enough to get hurt, but it was hard. You really, really liked him.

You liked the way he would stare at you while you talked, actually listening and curious as to what you had to say. You liked the way he hugged you after a few days of not seeing each other, burying his face in your hair like he couldn’t get close enough to you. You liked the way he laughed, both the usual, quiet chuckles and the rare snorting wheezes. You liked the way his mouth looked when he smoked, the way he moaned your name when he came, the way he could make you laugh at anything at any time.

You didn’t want to get the “I told you so” talk from Kiyoko, so you avoided the topic all together: with her, and yourself.

After one month of hanging out with Suna, you were planning on meeting up and going to see a movie. Both of you were more homebodies, preferring to stay in rather than party, but you had decided that you wanted to try and expand your horizons once again. The movies seemed like a happy compromise.

The film was something Suna had been talking about for a while, an action thriller that honestly looked like shit but got good audience reviews because of all the flashy fight scenes. He had been so excited when it came out that you hadn’t been able to say no to going, especially not after he pried you with food.

He was coming to get you at 6 pm, and your last class ended at 3pm, which gave you plenty of time to get ready. You stared at the face of your teacher on the screen within your zoom class, zoning out as he explained the flood system around the school. You glanced over as your phone buzzed, a message from Suna popping up on the screen.

Are we still seeing a movie tonight?

There was no response, and you felt your stomach drop. You didn’t even notice as your teacher ended class and logged you off the meeting. Suna was at a party at 3 in the afternoon, drunk, and didn’t seem to remember you had plans. You swallowed, shoving your phone aside as you ground your teeth. Why was he so frustrating?

You stood up, angry at yourself for caring, furious at Suna for making you feel this way, for being such a piece of shit. You knew what party he was probably at--Kiyoko had said she was going at some point--and suddenly you were moving before you could think about it.

You dressed nice, but casual enough that it wasn’t out of place at a frat party. Sexy enough to make him want you though, of course.

You didn’t give yourself time for nerves as you strode from your dorm and headed in the direction of the frat house, following a steady stream of people already going in that direction. You knew it was Friday, but how the fuck were so many people already getting ready to party when it was literally 3:30????

It wasn’t overly crowded in the house when you entered, but enough where it was confusing as you wandered through the crowd. You snatched two drinks from the counter, downing them as fast as possible as you searched for Suna in the crowd. You’d need to be at least tipsy before having this confrontation.

You found him in the living room, sprawled out on the couch next to who you recognized to be Akaashi, Kuroo, Kita, and Iwaizumi--all who you knew through Kiyoko. There were a few others you didn’t know, and they were all clearly drunk out of their minds.

As you entered the room, Suna met your eyes for a brief moment, but then they moved on without a reaction. He didn’t care at all that you had come to find him, or that he had never responded to your text.

The drink in your hand trembled, and you walked out of the room without looking back.

Instead of talking to Suna, you decided to get wasted. An hour after first coming to the party, you were deep in a game of beer pong and you had a pleasant warmth in your gut, the world a little hazy. You felt braver, more angry, and suddenly all you wanted to do was track down that yellow eyed idiot and slap him.

“Where’s Suna?” You slurred, turning to look at your partner at beer pong. You knew him vaguely as one of the frat boys, Suna’s friend Atsumu.

Atsumu grinned, raising his eyebrows as he stared down at you. “Suna? Why?”

You weren’t drunk enough to tell him of your “friendship” with Suna, so you just shrugged.

“He’s over there,” Atsumu pointed towards the kitchen, and you felt all the blood drain from your face as you followed his gaze. Sitting in a chair, his back to you, was Suna...and on his lap was a beautiful blonde girl with her hands in his hair as she kissed him fiercely.

You must have made some sort of sound, because Atsuma looked back at you. “You good?”

You forced yourself to nod. “I’m...going to go get some fresh air.”

“I’ll come,” he said, and you decided not to argue.

Seeing Suna had sobered you up considerably, but your emotions were still a complete mess. All you could feel was a deep, unending hurt.

As you headed down the hall, Atsumu grabbed your wrist and spun you around to face him. “So...you and Suna huh?” He said, a strange smile on his face.

“What are you--?”

“It’s fine, you don’t have to keep it a secret.” He took a step towards you, and you raised your eyebrows.

“We aren’t together.”

“Really? Then you wouldn’t mind,” He gently took your chin, lifting your face. “If I did this?”

All the breath wooshed out of you at the familiar voice, which was now laced with anger. Suna stood a few feet away, his hands in his pockets as he watched you and Atsumu. He was smiling, but it was icy with rage and...jealousy?

“Suna,” Atsumu grinned, releasing your face but not stepping back. “What do you want?”

Suna jerked his chin in your direction. “How about you get away from her, and then we’ll talk?”

“Dude,” Atsumu rolled his eyes. “She just told me she was single. I don’t get what the problem is.”

Suna’s face tightened. “If you don’t get the fuck out of here in the next three seconds, I swear I will break your--”

“Chill, ok!” Atsumu stepped back from you, given you a frustrated look before heading away down the hall.

When he was out of sight, Suna’s head slowly turned to face you, his eyes dark. “Single?” His voice was a low snarl.

You swallowed, feeling your anger return full force. How dare he. “Yes!” You snapped, “Since you clearly don’t view this as any sort of relationship.”

“What are you talking about?”

“So you can go off kissing other girls, but I can’t flirt with Atsumu?”

You clenched your fists. “Atsumu said--”

Suna was in your face in a second, towering over you as he backed you against the wall. “What did he say?” He growled.

You clenched your jaw, glaring at him in silence.

Suna gave a dark chuckle. “So that’s how it’s going to be, huh?”

I'm working my way through all the Legend of Zelda games I can get my hands on. Oddly enough, it's Skyward Sword that got me invested in the rest of the series, haha. I played BotW and loved it, tried to play Link's Awakening and got frustrated so I quit, then I played Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and had fun just demolishing the enemies that used to kick my ass in botw, but still I wasn't like, invested in the series. Pretty much I just liked the botw stuff.

Then Skyward Sword HD came out and I went "sure why not?" Because I remember the game grumps hating it but I liked Sonic and the Black Knight for wii, and the switch has way better motion controls, so I figured I'd give it a go. (Plus I really wanted the themed joy-cons bc they're so pretty and it felt silly to get the joy-cons without having the actual game they're attached to.)

Anyways, I loved it. I don't see why people complain so much about the motion controls even on switch? I thought they were fine and I actually loved how engaging it made the combat, plus there's just an indescribable sort of joy involved in using the motion controls to draw the master sword and hold it over your head, okay? It's just fun.

Anyways, that's the first I guess 'standard' LoZ game I've played to completion. I got frustrated a few times with the puzzles, but I was invested enough to keep going until I figured it out. The final fight against Demise-Ganon had me cursing at my screen but when I finally beat him it was so satisfying, totally worth it imo.

And now that I have the story of the last Link (so far) and the first Link in the timeline, I'm curious enough about the space in between to take another shot at the other LoZ games I've given up on before. I just finished Ocarina of Time 3D, which was a lot easier than I remember now that I'm actually familiar with how a Zelda game is structured (basically find temple, solve puzzles, get new item, boss fight featuring new item, find the next temple-- ad nauseum).

I'm going into Hyrule Warriors: Definitive edition now (Warriors Link is so pretty haha, I see why people call him 'pretty boy' in LU fics/fanart lol). This is another game I tried before but I just wasn't invested enough in the characters to get into it? It also seemed too easy at the time, so I'm playing it on the higher difficulty, but I also know that if it's anything like Age of Calamity, it gives us a lot more story and interesting missions.

I have A Link Between Worlds to play next, assuming I can't get ahold of Majora's Mask for 3DS. Then I'll take another shot at Link's Awakening, I guess.

Any other suggestions for what I can play? I have a Switch and a 3DS, and my brother has a Wii but we don't have a Wii U.

Also, what I'm realizing about Legend of Zelda games, is that most of them are kinda like Fanfiction. They don't really do a good job of introducing their central Characters because they expect us to already recognize them. That's what's different about BotW and Skyward Sword; they do a really good job of setup, because for both of them, the hero is just as knowledgeless as the player. SS!Link knows nothing about great evil demons or the triforce, he's just a sleepyhead skyboy. They don't even have a kingdom yet, they just have a floating island with a school and some big-ass birds.

BotW does a GREAT job of introducing the world of Hyrule and everything in it because Link literally has no memories at the start of it. We learn everything that's going on as he does. And if you're interested in learning more, you can seek out his forgotten memories as an optional side quest. You don't have to, but you can if you're curious.

Comparatively, Age of Calamity relies heavily on you having played BotW, and the dramatic irony they can create from the player knowing one future as they help divert it from that path.

And Ocarina of Time doesn't really explain much about their characters. The Great Deku Tree's death is heartbreaking to me now, knowing that SS!Link planted him, and knowing the tree from BotW. But in OoT, it just kinda... happens? And didn't mean much of anything to me the first time I played the game. You know the Deku tree is supposed to be important, but not why. You see Zelda a grand total of one time before she runs away from the castle with Impa, and it's clearly supposed to be a dramatic scene, but we don't know her at all. Then Sheik shows up when you're an adult, shows up to teach you songs and then just leaves, and it's kinda clunky and doesn't really help us form an attachment to the character at all. Really, the only character besides link that is recurring enough and actually has speaking lines with personality is like... Navi, and maybe Malon, if you seek her out for Epona. Everyone else shows up like two or three times at most, and either has an instant crush on Link, or is just grateful for his help.

I enjoyed the game, playing it now, but I definitely had to care about the characters first-- I wouldn't have been able to get into this game if I wasn't already invested in Link's journey and kicking Ganon's ass.

So like, it suffers from fanfiction-syndrome, I think.
