You. You get me.
Ascended!Astarion allows Tav to go out and live amongst the mortals for six months, playing their songs and living how they want, but always comes to retrieve them when the summer starts (the days get longer and food will be more difficult to find). And as the years go by, their time above grows shorter and shorter, leading to there being a yearly argument between them. But in an inverse of Hades and Persephone’s argument in Chant, Tav’s questions are like this, “Gods, Astarion, why must you have this blasted place be so damn cold?!” | “Oh please, darling, you never could stand for it be so disgustingly hot.”
It’s not until Astarion hears the song Tav won him over with so long ago wafting through the air as he hunts near a tavern that he’s reminded of just how much he loved them…and all the wrong that he’s done by them.

Original Post | Astarion x Evie (Ace!Tav) Masterlist
Exactly this!
I was actually thinking it could be the same sweltering heat as it’s his misguided attempt to replicate the world above and the summer they seems to always leave him for. Evie/Tav berates him, “it ain’t right and it ain’t natural”. But Ascended!Astarion always argues back “Lover, everything I do, I do it for the love of you”.
Honestly you can keep the same beats of the show as Astarion has expanded his control of the underdark. People above sometimes go down below to strike a deal, becoming his spawn in exchange for what they think will be an end to their suffering.
Eurydice is one of them and Orpheus, a bard, goes down below to get her back.
Orpheus then plays the same song Evie/Tav played for Astarion all those years ago. They never wrote it down, all the best songs live in memory. It has been passed down through the years until nobody knew where it came from. Astarion hears it and remembers who he was, who Evie/Tav was to him. And then they dance.
.
.
.
Also, as an aside, as much as I love Chant (Reprise) on the Original Broadways cast recording I keep thinking about Chant II from the 2017 live recording. Specifically Persephone singing to Eurydice which is cut from the official Broadway run.
Love was when he came to me
Begging on his bended knees
To please have pity on his heart
And let him lay me in the dirt
I felt his arms around me then
We didn’t need a wedding bed
Dark seeds scattered on the ground
Wild birds were flying around
That’s when I became his wife
But that was in another life
That was in another world
When I was a young girl!

Vesuvia Weekly: LI and Apprentice Dynamics
Finally getting to join the party started by @vesuviaweekly!
(fair warning I love writing about this kind of stuff so there are a looot of words here lol)
Meleia & Asra
Tumblr media
(sketch by the amazing @missrabbitart it's wonderful I love it so much)
Truly two halves of a greater whole.
Soft soft soft soft soft
They're both each other's first love, which is really cute.
(And both of them were super awkward about it at first because neither of them knew how to actually Talk to people)
Meleia loves Asra's wanderlust. Life is never boring with him.
Asra adores the way Meleia throws her all into whatever she cares about, be it as mundane as a sewing project or as huge as protecting the people she loves from the likes of Lucio or the Devil.
And on the subject of sewing... they're both crafty people!
Meleia makes her own clothes and Asra knits, so the two of them combined are a force to be reckoned with.
Meleia has a lot of self-confidence issues for a lot of reasons. Asra's always been there to help her through her rough spots.
Neither of them have a good sense of direction, so Faust and Forge (Meleia's familiar, a fennec fox) always end up doing most of the navigating when they travel.
They love reading together, making things together, exploring together, dancing together... they'd basically do anything and everything together.
(Except cleaning. Asra leaves stuff everywhere, and Meleia likes to keep the shop neat. It's about the only thing they have teasing arguments about.)
To Meleia, Asra is home. She can truly be her awkward and shy and geeky self around him, and she appreciates that more than she can ever say.
To Asra, Meleia is a beacon of light and joy. She cares so deeply about things and people, including the little kid who grew up alone on the docks.
Songs that remind me of Them: "A Whole New World" from Aladdin, "All I've Ever Known" from Hadestown, "Curses" by the Crane Wives.
My other apprentices are under the cut!
Damian & Julian
In a nutshell, they are that one scene from Coco.
Tumblr media
(Drawing by me, it's a redraw of the final panel of this old thing)
In all honesty, though, they tease each other but they are very much in love.
They're both intelligent and leaders in their fields of study.
Damian's an alchemist, Julian's a doctor... their styles have more in common than Julian ever thought at first.
They can and will be found having intense discussions about various practices in both medicine and alchemy using highly technical terms that no one else in the room understands.
They were a dream team when working to find a cure for the plague. Except for the arguments where Damian insisted that the plague itself must have been magical in nature and Julian was firmly convinced it was nothing more than a disease.
Damian's stubborn, and never afraid to show his anger or annoyance, but Julian always has a way of making things up to him. And they never stay upset or mad at each other for long.
Both of them are musically inclined, Julian with his vielle and Damian with his guitar. So whenever emotions are too strong for words, they connect through playing together.
Julian is all for the drama, while Damian's humor is more dry and witty.
Julian is the only person who can get Damian to dance on a table.
Songs that remind me of them: "I See the Light" from Tangled, "Inferno" from Promare.
Chimalus, Nadia, and Portia
Tumblr media
Chimalus and Nadia art by the fabulous @ace--of--swords!
I've talked about Chimalus' dynamics with Nadia and Portia before, but I wanted to go into more detail about the polycule here :)
Dream Team 2 Electric Boogaloo
Chimalus and Portia are both always at the ready to help Nadia with whatever plan she has, be it city reservations, the next Masquerade, or just a picnic out in the garden.
Chimalus is the Heart of the trio, with their pure loyalty, good judgement, and a particularly kind heart.
Both Nadia and Portia admire Chimalus' quiet strength and clever mind. No matter how tough the problem, Chimalus finds a way to keep a relatively cool head and work their way through it.
Whenever Chimalus' lingering trauma pops up from their dark past, Nadia and Portia are always right there to help them through it.
Portia loves "dragging" Nadia and Chimalus off on adventures. Not that Chimalus or Nadia complain.
Book buddies!
The three of them basically have their own book club. They always meet up as soon as they're done reading the current book and chat about it over snacks (and usually tea and/or wine).
They all bond over animals, too! Between the palace horses, Chandra, Pepi, and Chimalus' familiar Skye the bluebird, they have quite a few critter friends to fawn over together.
Songs that remind me of them: "More With You" by MALINDA, "Running With the Wolves" from Wolfwalkers, "To the Ends of the Earth" by Natewantstobattle.

OKAY SO-
You said onetime that Finnick and sweet girl have major hadestown vibes and that’s so real!!! (That literature paper I wrote that was around 4,000 was actually about hadestown! I was writing about the contemporary political themes and love)
The sudden way Finnick went to talk to her for the first time reminds me so much of “come home with me” and overall their love story reminds me of “all I’ve ever known” because of just how much they’re like “the world is shit but when I’m with you everything is okay” yk? And Finnick is so Orpheus, willing to risk everything for Eurydice.
ALSO!!! Sweet girl reminds me of “flowers” specifically after the capitol took her after the quarter quell. I mean the whole song takes place when Eurydice can’t remember Orpheus but all she can’t remember is the feeling of safety, the feeling of belonging,
I could talk about hadestown all day (my original draft was 5,000 words) , and I could talk about the lakes all day
-🌾anon
YES YES YES I've be wanting to fully explore this so buckle up guys this is a long ride, ily so much pookie bc I've missed your thoughts while I've been sick 😭
(also that as an essay topic is so real and I bet it was absolutely amazing)
starting off with all I've ever known because it is so absolutely them in every sense of the song
"this is how it's always been, all I've ever known is how to hold my own, but now I want to hold you too." finnick only has people he perceives as fair weather friends or those who use him, but then there's her and suddenly he doesn't have to worry about that. and she's so used to masking, protecting herself but then there's him, all she longs for.
we know sweet girl is always cold and finnick is the warmth to contrast that, her sun to keep her from freezing "you take me in your arms, suddenly there's sunlight all around me, everything bright and warm and shining like it never did before and for a moment I forget just how dark and cold it gets."
"now I wanna hold you, hold you close, I don't wanna ever have to let you go. now I wanna hold you, hold you tight, I don't wanna go back to the lonely life." both of them longing for each other's touch, presence, the release found in being with one another
readers anxiety about not being worthy and deserving suffering is so, "I don't know how or why. who am I, that I should get to hold you?"
and finnick knowing she's the one before they've even really spoken, he just knows it's right is so, "it's like I'd known you all along, I knew you before we met and I don't even know you yet. all I know's you're someone I have always known."
and him and his sweet girl as the back in forth at the end, chef's kiss perfect
"say that you'll hold me forever. say that the wind won't change on us. say that we'll stay with each other and it will always be like this." with her never ending anxieties
"I'm gonna hold you forever, the wind will never change on us. long as we stay with each other, then it will always be like this." as finnick trying to reassure his sweet girl.
side bar to a line in hey, little songbird that always makes me think of her when she's trying to differentiate reality from lies in the Capitol
"suddenly nothing is as it was. where are you now, orpheus? wasn't it gonna be the two of us, weren't we birds of a feather?"
moving onto flowers which is so her
"dreams are sweet until they're not. men are kind, until they aren't. flowers bloom until they rot and fall apart." the dream of being with finnick getting her through the games versus the reality of winning and what that took. the trafficking faced in the capitol AND when conway turned on her, playing into the romantic facade in the end. her when she was young, become a husk of that.
and then the feeling when she's in the Capitol and can't verbalize how she's feeling, she just needs people to know because it's all too much. she doesn't want to be unreadable, she longs to be herself again but isn't quite there yet.
"is anybody listening? I open my mouth and nothing comes out. nothing. nothing gonna wake me now."
then out of all the negative, twisted memories, the positive anecdotes she does have. and the way she's so scared but still longs for finnick regardless.
"flowers, I remember fields of flowers, soft beneath my heels. walking in the sun, I remember someone, someone by my side turned his face to mine."
"you, the one I left behind. if you ever walk this way, come and find me lying in the bed I made."
AND FINNICK IS JUST SO WAIT FOR ME CODED
"wait for me, I'm coming. wait, I'm coming with you. wait for me, I'm coming too." like he so desperately wanted to instantly go back to the capitol and save her or just be with her that he was stuck in a constant state of sedation when they refused to let him.
"that town'll try to suck you dry. they'll suck your brain, they'll suck your breath, they'll pluck your heart right out of your chest." the lengths he's willing to go, the trials he'll endure for her
a small time to flash back to wedding song because on a fluffier note it's so a back and forth between them
sweet girl is so "lover, tell me if you can, who's gonna buy the wedding bands? times being what they are, hard and getting harder all the time."
and the ever reassuring finnick "lover, when I sing my song, all the rivers will sing along. and they're gonna break their banks for us and with their gold be generous. all a-flashing in the pan, all to fashion for your hand, the rivers gonna give us the wedding bands."
okay and the way reader views herself and what Snow manipulation to hijack her, and how they always mention fate is tearing them apart is very akin to when the chips are down.
"help yourself, to hell with the rest, even the one who loves you best."
"what you gonna do when the chips are down? now that the chips are down. " " oh, my aching heart."
"ain't nobody but yourself to trust"
"aim for the heart, shoot to kill. if you don't do it then the other one will."
"cast your eyes to heaven, you get a knife in the back. nobody's righteous, nobody's proud, nobody's innocent, now that the chips are down"
AND PROMISES like finnick trying to work them back though what the Capitol did to her and she's so desperate to be herself again even if she's struggling. and he's trying but he uncertain on how to do it especially since this isn't the future he necessarily envisioned for them.
(in a sweet girl then finnick line set up)
"let's go, let's go right now"
"okay, let's go. how?"
"we'll walk, you know the way. we'll just come back the way you came."
"it's a long road, it's a long walk. back into the cold and dark. are you sure you wanna go?"
"take me home."
"I have no ring for your finger, I have no banquet table to lay, I have no bed of feathers, whatever promises I made. I can't promise you fair sky above, I can't promise you kind road below, but I'll walk beside you love. anyway the wind blows."
"I don't need gold or silver. just bread when I'm hungry, fire when I'm cold. don't need a ring for my finger, just a steady hand to hold...just walk beside me love, anyway the wind blows"
and both of them "do you let me walk with you? I do. I do. and keep on walking come what will? I will. I will. we will."
this is all for now because it's so long but they're literally them and I'm convinced this is just one of the lessons they've learned in a past life when he turned around. so now he's learning to trust in this life.
and as evident so can I lmao 😭 I'm glad we're on the same page though. love you 💋

ateez as male musical characters (according to me)
A/N: Please remember that this is my opinion, so please be nice. Also I promise that I AM working on Stray Kids as D&D Characters its just taking me a while. Enjoy!
current masterlist | fic recs
Tumblr media
Seonghwa: Baron Von Trapp, The Sound of Music
Hear me out - He's poised, organized, clean, and well-put together at all times. However, he secretly does have quite the interesting, fun-loving side. He prefers organization, but is also full of love and creativity that isn't always apparent to everyone. He is strong in his ideals and values, with a soft side for those he loves.
Hongjoong: Orpheus, Hadestown
He is focused and creative, but often times gets too immersed in his work. He gets so immersed to the point where he will forget to care for himself and those around him. However, that doesn't mean he does not love them - in fact, he cares incredibly deeply for those he loves. He will do anything to make sure that they are okay and that they get back on track, even though there may be doubt setting in.
Yunho: Jack Kelly, Newsies
He's a little flirtatious, a little goofy, and also willing to do anything to protect those around him and keep them safe. He really is a leader in his own right even if not many always see it. He really loves pushing people’s buttons if given any space and opportunity, but he also loves pushing for change and making things better for those around him.
Yeosang: Seymour, Little Shop of Horrors
Bless him, he's so quiet and sweet. He really cares deeply for those around him even often at his own expense. He can often be too nice for his own good sometimes but it is so hard to not love him. Yeosang, I feel, makes sure the people around him feel the love at all times, even if his methods are unconventional.
San: Christian, Moulin Rouge
San really loves so deeply with all of his heart. He feels like a hopeless romantic that will love who he does until even after they have gone away, and even more after that. He is a loyal and dedicated lover and friend to those he holds dear. He would also sing instead of talk at all times if given the chance, and would feel heartbreak on an intense level that not many can comprehend.
Mingi: Roger, Rent
He feels so many emotions all the time and uses music as an outlet when words otherwise. He wants to leave a legacy to the world but feels overwhelmed with the pressure to make it perfect. He loves too much and it kind of scares him sometimes. He also tends to doubt his success despite having the people around him giving him support. He is also a certified Rock Star/Emo King™️
Wooyoung: Fiyero, Wicked
We all know he's a little sassy, flirty, and a bit of a shit-stirrer sometimes. But, when he sets his mind to what he cares about, he will do anything and everything possible to achieve his goals. When he loves someone, he loves them with his whole heart and will happily sacrifice himself for them at any cost - a love that is truly hard to ignore and hard to come by.
Jongho: J.D., Heathers
Again, hear me out - He regularly has a lot of things going on in his head, so much that he often can't say. He often takes things into his own hands, which can be a bit intense even to him. He comes off composed and deep, but internally may be a chaotic mess sometimes. He is also spooked by affection from others, and it takes him a while to show his true colors (for Jongho irl, his true colors are beautiful, unlike J.D. who is...not that - that's a difference).

HELLOOOOOO LIL BRO!!! (i don't actually know your age so you could he older than me. I'm 15 lol) LITERALLY CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVEN'T DONE THIS SOONER BUT ALAS I AM HERE NOW!!!!! AND I WILL CONTINUE TO BOMBARD YOU WITH LIL SCENARIOS WHENEVER I THINK OF THEM
Tumblr media
You like theater. I like theater. It makes sense
We would definitely watch live action musicals and plays whenever possible and you would show me the ones you like and i would show you the ones I like
Now if you were interested we would audition to shows together bc i volunteer at a local theater all the time
We would have so much fun together! Honestly you would love the theater i go to (i even run their tiktok account but it only has two videos 😢)
Going over to your house to run lines and practice songs (well i don't sing bc i am bad at singing but i would help you!!)
Sleepovers bc i stayed over too late to go home. Taking all nighters to practice scenes and watch the show
Probably also fantasizing about our dream roles together. (Its Veronica from Heathers for me but again I can't sing 😭)
And if I'm not in the show you're in, don't worry!! I'll still be there cheering you on!!
We would be menaces if ee went to the same school. Targeting everyone to come see the show
Tumblr media
convenient segue everyone 😉
If we went to the same school I imagine we would go to the gardening club together
You just have the vibes of someone who likes plants
I would complain about the weather and fret over you, making aure you're staying hydrated in the warm sun
I imagine it would be pretty empty except for us too
We're like the groundskeepers basically
Probably planting specific flowers to convey different meanings
Selling some of them during the holidays like poinciana
Getting specialized and matching gloves
Singing while we work bc music makes everything better
I would be give you all the drama and say all my judgy comments
"Then she got up and sat next to this other girl who is barely even her friend! Like hellooo, why are you ignoring me 🙄. And the bitchiest part was when she tried talking to me like normal."
And then you would be lile "amor 😨 that's pretty mean. Maybe she didn't notice?"
After gardening we would probably get a snack and eat inside the greenhouse, maybe also get a refreshing drink
I'm your younger bro to clarify then! XD
And for the record I'm sure you sound wonderful! 💚💚💚💚💚
I love theatre BUT I'm frightened of the idea of performing onstage XD
You'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to the audition
But if I WASN'T, I'd be so excited ehehe
We rarely watch movie musicals anymore because I'm always ranting about how much better the stage versions are and how they ruined it XD (unless we watch one of the good adaptations ofc like West Side Story for example)
YESS US FANTASIZING OVER DREAM ROLES TOGETHER EHEHE
Got the funny visual of you waking up in the middle of the night and waking up to me trying (and falling) to quietly sing Pierre from NPATGCO1812 to not wake you up XD
I'd love the gardening club!! :D
I keep planting carnations "BECAUSE IT'S THA HADESTOWN FLOWER, AMOR! YOU EXPECT ME TO JOIN A GARDENING CLUB AND NOT PLANT THE HADESTOWN FLOWER?" "I love your enthusiasm but that's not at all what I said-"
Ik I seem all nice and kind on here and I think I'm like that irl, but trust and believe that if your pissed, I'm gonna be pissed too XD especially I've gone through similar crap with an ex friend
"She did not!! I told you about Marissa right? She did crap JUST like that! Even try to talk to me sometimes like she wasn't being a total prick- I swear people are the worst sometimes-"
We have a little treehouse or some kinda place where we can just hang out and have fun and have an absolute ball there :)

I’m sharing this with you cause none of my friends like Tmnt and I wanna share this.
Two of my dumbest headcanons.
Both Raph and Donatello are HUGE musical theatre fans. Raph’s favorite is Heathers, Little Shop of Horrors or Sweeney Todd. Donatello’s favorite is Hadestown, Be More Chill or Nerdy Prudes Must Die.
I like to imagine Raph is huge on self-care and has a skin care routine that’s like…20 steps (maybe not that but it’s a lot lol) and when his brothers are having a hard time (ex. Donnie stays in his lab too much, and doesn’t take care of himself, Leo is feeling down maybe about Splinter etc etc) he forces them to do a self-care day with him.
idk I think these are silly lol
It’s so ironic that you’re commenting about having to share your stuff elsewhere because the people around you don’t get it because MAN I have had a night. Let’s just say that being the only person you know with an interest in something can be difficult.
I love dumb headcanons <3
My favorite part is how difficult they are for me because I am the poster board of every meme of everything needing to make sense:
Tumblr media
If anything feels SLIGHTLY off in my headcanons, my brain makes stalling noises. BUT THESE AREN’T MINE.
So take that brain.
I enjoy a few musicals, but I haven’t heard of half of the ones that you listed, so I wouldn’t know for sure if it would be up their alley or not. Its amusing to imagine them sitting in Donnie’s lab, trading musical preferences to see which ones match up. Their brothers will never heard the end of it when they do. 🤣
NAH WAIT. I can’t get the image out of my head of them tied up as Raph helps them “relax.” One of the few ways that he knows to say “I love you you need to take care of yourself” is by sharing what he enjoys, even if they don’t care. He will make them care.
THEY WILL BOND.
And the worst part is somehow it always works.

Hadestown Thoughts Because I Can
I saw this show for the second time this past week and I maybe have the most thoughts ever, so here’s all of the shit I’ve been obsessing over the past couple of days. I have HUGE theme thoughts.
I really appreciate that the show takes time to address that Eurydice has been alone for a really long time, and that she needs to take time to trust people. This is best seen in "All I've Ever Known", because Orpheus has to earn the right to touch her. When he goes to touch her and she flinches, away, he respects that and doesn't force her to do anything. It's only once they really fall in love that they're able to, and it's because they trust each other. But after this point, touch is 100% how they express their love. These two NEVER separate. So, when "Gathering Storm" happens and Orpheus begins isolating, it is SO jarring. Because the way they express love for each other has dissipated, and Eurydice only feels more and more lonely. This is something that helps contextualize her choice. But, when we flash forward after "Flowers" and Orpheus appears again, she fully clings to him. She is so desperate to hold him because she's lost that anchor. That scene in general is just so impactful because you can feel how much they've missed each other. This makes the end hurt SO FUCKING MUCH. Because they are finally back together, and now they are forced to not only touch each other, but Orpheus can't even see her. So, that basis of their trust and love has been taken away. They can't be hand in hand, arm in arm, side by side and all of that. And that only increases Orpheus's doubts. And we all know what happens with doubt comes in.
Speaking of "Doubt Comes In", I have big thoughts there too. Firstly, how Orpheus sings the whole melody that I've been thinking about as the "love melody" (The la la las) Because we know that this is the song that represents the connection between him and Eurydice, Hades and Persephone, and the thing that is powerful enough to bring Spring and life. So, he's using this song as his anchor at this moment, right? I think that's partly true, but I also think it is hindering him. The song is reminding him of how much he loves Eurydice, and he has already spent so much time away from her. So, he wants to feel that sensation again, and he has no idea that Eurydice is calling out to him and encouraging him. He only knows silence and his own anxiety. He's so afraid that he's relying so hard on this love, and that Hades may have tricked him, and that he was relying on something that was taken away from him.
Another "Doubt Comes In" thing! The way this song is staged is so incredible. The stage is incredibly dark. Eurydice is following him, but you can't always see her. And, there is the question of if she's fully left the stage, or if she's just in a part we can't see. That adds to the audience's own doubts, even if we have way more information that Orpheus does. And, in this dark place, who has the lights? The Fates. The Fates are the voices of anxiety in his head, and we've seen how impactful they are on other characters. They physically bully Eurydice at multiple points, and they're even able to get to Hades during "Word to the Wise" and "His Kiss, the Riot". They've already impacted Orpheus pretty deeply during "Nothing Changes". (Also just a note, this song has a much faster tempo live, and it really adds so much to that feeling of fear and doubt). So, back to "Doubt Comes In". The Fates are the only people with lights. Because, Orpheus is the dark, is lost in unknowns. And, it always feels like anxiety has the answer and that light. But, giving in and looking at the light/truth is what will doom him. It's just such an incredible representation of what everything feels like for him. And the Fates aren't a malevolent force, they are literally just a representation and a voice to what is already there within all of these characters.
Switching gears! (Also last thing for now), but WOW do I love this version of Persephone. I saw the understudy, and she is incredible. She brings a very intense energy to the performance. At the start, you can see she has a lot of energy, and that she loves fun and latches onto the beauty in the world. But, when you see her in "Our Lady of the Underground", she is INCREDIBLY intense. All of her actions and movements are random and striking. You can tell that she feels trapped and shes lashing out by attempting to hold onto this sense within her. It also doesn't help that she isn't sober, and she is very loose and free with how much alcohol she drinks (as Orpheus says, she's "blinded by a river of wine"). So, when she sobers up and gets involved with the whole Orpheus thing, she begins to go still. She holds her ground with incredible confidence, and her intensity is now focused and purposeful. She is advocating for what she needs and wants, and she won't take any bullshit. The contrast is just SO striking oh my god.
Ok! Those are the big ones I have for now, but WOW this show is living fully rent free in my brain. It's my favorite piece of theater ever!

Ask game umm,, fitzgerald
Oh Fitzgerald!!!!
Favorite thing about them: His motivation / how much he loves his wife. To me he was a pretty :// character the whole Guild arc, but the second it was established that his motivations were led by his love for his wife his popularity for me skyrocket. I'm just VERY week for the trope of men loving their wives A Lot, especially when they're villains and especially if they love them the wrong way but still love them with everything they have nonetheless (Hades from Hadestown!!!). Also, he's funny! He doesn't take himself seriously and that makes him genuinely likeable for me.
Least favorite thing about them: I don't like stereotypical caricatures in general... I'm not even from the usa and I hate usa cultural (and non) colonization as much as the next person, but I don't think moral principles should be applied only to the people (in this case, countries) you like, y'know. I think stereotypical caricatures are detrimental for everyone. When his ability was revealed I rolled my eyes hard, like, c'mon, at least pretend to treat your characters equally.
Favorite line: “You're like two peas in a pod” sskk enabler line there was an unfortunate page layout here so I can't share the panels without clogging the post, but “I will bring back my family. No matter the price I must pay.” from chapter 35. I like the double meaning in how he's both referring to his ability and to his being willing to do anything, literally even give his life if it's for his family. I find it really bittersweet, Fitzgerald is fully willing to die if he can't build an happy world for his family.
brOTP: I REALLY LIKE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH SSKK AJKHVAJVGM I made a post about it forever ago but I really like the idea of him being this kind of weird uncle figure to them. It's really fun and endearing to think about.
OTP: I mean, I don't know Zelda, but I can safely say that I want them to be together? Other than that, the concept of putting Fitzgerald in the fukufukumori equation but just for the drama is endlessly amusing alhkcjvsblcfkusbcfwl.
nOTP: Really nothing I can think of. I barely remember ever seeing Fitzgerald ships at all tbh.
Random headcanon: He bought a nice house for his bald neighbour from chapter 45.

Unpopular opinion: Look I don't know what opinions the fandom has on Fitzgerald. I think his new brown suit is even more atrocious than his previous creme + pink combo.
Song i associate with them: He's the last character I would be thinking about when listening to music lmao. I feel like I'm not good at this section.

Not sure if you were asked by this question but what kind of theme song would you put for your story and the different timelines?
Oh I have talked extensively about putting certain songs in AOP, but I was never asked to talk about the different timeline.
First time for everything right?
Dark Timeline
So the Dark Timeline is a timeline of dread and horror. You think of something like devastation because Shockwave is that much of a monster who will defy the laws of everything just because he fucking can.
So something like this would be the main theme:
youtube
Shockwave is just a force that can't be stopped. This is the music that I would want for the Dark Timeline
(Also check out Samuel Kim. He's great)
Revenge Timeline
Well kind of obvious, it's gotta be a revenge song, like Hell's Comin With Me or Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. But Starscream is the Prince of Vos. His theme has to be classy in his eyes and show his obsession in destroying Megatron and Optimus and ruling the galaxy. So something like this revenge playlist:
youtube
Chaos Timeline
Soundwave is also out for revenge, but there also betrayal laced in those story because Megatron and Soundwave have a much deeper connection compared to all the other Decepticons. But Soundwave is also a professional spymaster who's heavily reliant on technology. So his theme would also have some sort of techno vibe to it. Maybe like the darker version of Miguel's theme in Across the Spiderverse or Spot 2.0.
Can't Pretend by Tom Odell is a good one but it's not techno.
youtube
War Timeline
It's just all the themes from both TFP and AOT just being played. Although Amalee's cover of Guren No Yumiya is a perfect song for the War Timeline because of the techno elements to it.
youtube
Beloved Timeline
Any song that deals with soulmates, reuniting lovers, all that soft shit. Because both Optimus and Elita thought they would never see each other again until they became one with the Allspark. So to be reunited again, there's no greater feeling than that.
So something like Han Zimmer's One Day from Pirates of the Carribean. Or the first half of Epic III from Hadestown (I love that musical)
Although the songs after Optimus and Elita reunite and slowly learn more about each other and fall in love all over again are songs like this:
youtube
Or this (Cody Fry is awesome)
youtube
Deity Timeline
So Predaking is seen as a god by the people of Hizuru, which is something that he's wanted: to be treated with respect. Would he be someone with a god complex? Maybe. Predaking at the end of the day is a cloned, traumatized, two-year-old trying to find his place in the world. So there would have to be a theme that would show his power, but at the same time show hints of vulnerability in the melody or something.
Maybe something like this:
youtube
But this theme is more for someone who is a villain and Predaking's more of an anti-hero in the Deity Timeline. The idea of what I mentioned is still there.
However, I would like to imagine that whenever Predaking takes someone flying, its a way that he's slowly opening up his spark to the world and the music for that would be more hopeful if that makes sense.
Peaceful Timeline
The Peaceful Timeline is all about love, healing, growth, moving forward, etc. It's about broken people learning to heal with each other's help. It's about Ymir getting the peaceful life she so desperately deserved. It's about Optimus learning to be selfish for once and Megatron learning to be kind. So I can create a huge ass list-! But here are songs that I think fit and I've already thought about using.
youtube
For Ymir's wedding lol
youtube
youtube
Take it out on me by One Republic
And that's it for now. I had to really think about this one, but I enjoyed it.

Papers (Songfic)
Damien/Dark x DA!reader
Requested by Anon:
“I don’t know if requests are open or not, but this is the anon that requested the songfic from Hadestown! After you posted the fic, I wanted to wait a bit before asking for a possible continuation of it based on the song Papers (“You’re not from around here, son…”) from the same musical where Dark finds out the D/A with Mark and he finds out about their deal. Would you want to write something like that?”
I'm so so so sorry this took so long but I love that you keep requesting Hadestown songs bc I love the music. I just have to actually get around to listening to the entire soundtrack at some point lol
Also, this one is laid out a little bit differently than my usual songfics. Basically instead of having the lyrics break up certain paragraphs and stuff, I interlaced them with the dialogue (and some of the "narration" 👀)
Warnings: Actor is an asshole but like we been knew, angst, hurt/no comfort, mentions of some events from WKM
Word Count: 1337 (oh my god I wish this was a lie how tf did I manage that)

Stage crew dashed to and fro, positioning props to perfection and preparing the set for filming. It was a hive of activity. One person frantically ran around trying to give the right coffee to the right performers. Another brushed makeup on Mark’s cheeks and forehead. You even spied two sneaking off together. Even after so long, it still all made your head spin.
How long had it been since you were set free? Since you made that deal? Everything all felt like a blur.
Mark had indeed taken you to dinner, but it wasn’t exactly what you expected. By the end of your ‘performance’, you were agreeing to a fake proposal and being dragged deeper into the acting world. He promised to show you the ropes; take you under his wing. Perhaps that’s why he came up with another production: A heist.
You felt out of place navigating your ‘lines’ and actions around actors built to play their roles. These people were professionals, passionate about their jobs and what they’ve been hired to do. You were being suffocated in a situation you couldn’t get out of.
“You remember your lines?” You opened your mouth, but Mark cut you off with an arrogant laugh. You didn’t have any lines. Not spoken ones, anyway. “That’s the spirit! Just follow me and make sure you don’t mess this up. We’re behind schedule on filming enough without you-”
“Quiet on set!”
Mark grumbled as he was cut off by the director. The small bit of satisfaction you felt was quickly washed away with one of his signature grins. He straightened his hair back and prepared himself to act. He really did live for this.
“Alright, aaaaand ACTION!”
Mark pumped his fists excitedly. “Yes! Okay! Awesome! All right, okay. This is gonna be great! And don’t you worry about a thing because our watches are still synchronized, which means that…”
Your mind zoned out as you listened to him go on and on. He loved giving himself long paragraphs to recite. Maybe it was just to show off how brilliant he was. You followed your queue, turning away so Mark could be dragged away and eaten or killed or whatever. You turned back and, yup, there was his flashlight. You looked down the hall he was supposed to go down and-
Wait. This wasn’t in the script.
“Uhm, Mark?”
Your voice echoed in the darkness. There was no more set. There was no more crew. This darkness looked too familiar; too similar to the mirror you were stuck in. But there was no going back.
Lining the walls of the hallway were portraits. It only took a moment to remember who each face belonged to. The chef. The butler. The detective… William. A deep chill ran down your spine, joining the heavy emotions resting at the bottom of your stomach.
All of them were there. You remember the butler, crying over that mess in the cellar. The chef, who threatened you every time you so much as glanced in his direction. Abe, your partner in solving the murder. And William. Your murderer. A pink moustache was crudely painted over his portrait, and nothing in your memories could answer why. But you remembered falling over the banister. The way he reached out to grab you. And then waking up… And…
The final portrait at the end of the hall was of Mark, back when everyone was alive. Back when the only worries you had involved poker and drinking. The paint flaked away and fell to the floor, disintegrating into ash.
“It’s… good to see you, old friend.”
That voice…
You turned to its source. A man in a white suit, rimmed with red and blue. His skin was grey. All of him was grey. Yet even through the strange aura surrounding him, you knew. You knew exactly who this was.
“Damien?”
A blue afterimage of himself glitched to the side at the sound of his name. It was gone as soon as it appeared. His lips formed a tight grin. “I don’t go by that name any more.” The strain in his voice, in his entire body, softened as he fully took you in. “It’s been so long, my dear district attorney. I was so worried about you.”
“I don’t go by that name anymore,” you repeated back to him. Your emotions were laid out on your sleeve. Your face contorted with confusion and sadness and longing and betrayal. You were angry, but you wanted to run into his arms. You were so sad, you missed him so much, but you wanted to stand your ground. You took in a shaky breath. “Why didn’t you come back for me?”
“I did,” he stated. “I did come back for you.”
You shook your head. “No, you didn’t. You left me in the mirror. You stole my body. You left me there for years, Damien.” He flinched at the name, but said nothing. “You have no idea the hell I went through, waiting for you to come back for me.”
“Then let me make it up to you,” he began. He stepped forward, hand outstretched carefully, as if he carried an olive branch. “Let me free you now from Mark’s silly games. You can stop running around in endless circles, making choices that mean nothing. You can be free from the hell he’s putting you through - be truly free, once and for all.”
You frowned at the poor, naive entity before you. “You have no idea, do you?”
A frown took over his own hopeful expression. “What-”
“There you are!” A voice, energetic and irritated, split the darkness. You didn’t need to turn to feel the man’s presence behind you, glaring daggers over your shoulder at not-Damien who did so right back. “What are you doing here?”
Dark’s entire form tensed up. His hands found their place behind his back. Glitches and afterimages shot out from his body. “I’m here to free them,” he growled.
Mark’s laugh, as cocky as ever but laced with menace, sounded next to your ear. You nearly cringed away from it. “Who do you think you are?” Even his voice was interwoven with incredulity. “They couldn’t go anywhere even if they wanted to.”
You turned and placed a firm hand on Mark’s chest. “Stop.” It was weak, pleading. If anything, he was spurred on more by your weakness.
“Stay out of this, dear attorney” he mocked, “the adults are talking.”
The entity snarled, egged on by Mark’s dismissal. “I’m not going back alone,” he threatened. “I came to take them home, and I fully intend to.”
Another raucous laugh. “Oh, you don’t know?” Cold eyes full of amusement looked down at you, as they always have and always would. You avoided his gaze. Another pair of eyes stared at your back, waiting for answers you wished to avoid giving. “When you abandoned them, I gave them a deal to get them out. You weren’t coming back around any time soon to free them, were you?”
Dark grit his teeth.
“They signed the deal themself,” he sing-songed.
“You’re lying.”
“And now,” he spun you back around to face your old friend, arm wrapped around your shoulder to keep you close, “they belong to me.”
“It isn’t true.” Dark eyes met yours, pleading for a different answer, for a different truth. He came back to rescue you; free you from the world Mark trapped you in. But, after all this time, it was still his fault you were here. “What he said-”
“I did,” you cut him off. Your voice was thick. Your eyes burned. You swallowed the lump in your throat. “I do.”
Mark’s sickening grin appeared right over your shoulder, his face pressed right next to yours. You visibly flinched, and oh how Dark longed to rip you away from that son of a bitch. But his feet were glued to the spot. His shoes were filled with lead.
“Now,” the actor began, “go back to where you came from.”

Thank you for the opportunity for a Redacted Match-Up! Your questions were too much fun to answer.
I'm fixed on the reprise of "Way Down Hadestown" from Hadestown. The harmonies of the Fates are addicting to hear.
Enneagram Type 8
I don't think I've ever watched a gargantuan Youtube Video Essay, but I'm not sure that would be my flavor. I use youtube for cute animal videos, music, recipes, and comedy videos.
I didn't have an imaginary childhood friend (at least that I recall), but I was imagining stories from a young age.
To fall asleep, I'm a big fan of the "play out scenes/stories you'd like inside your head" method. It's a lot of fun. I think of it as a form of dreaming, especially now that I only rarely ever remember my dreams.
This one is hard because I quite like my name! Hmmm... I like the name Josephine. I think that's the one I'd pick.
"Comforted by Your Feisty Werewolf Boyfriend" is my favorite audio. I like how Milo is so tender with Sweetheart, encouraging them to open up about their day without having to exchange their independence for his comfort.
Guy. For me personally, I feel like there's nothing special about him, like I don't know who he is. All I know is that he's in love with Honey, and that's great, but it's like there's nothing deeper to him, nothing exciting about him.
I could recite The Princess Bride in my sleep.
I would love to be pals with Avior!
I don't know if this counts, but I start to have to search for words when I get extra tired. I'll just "um" and "uh" myself into oblivion, refusing to settle for a substandard synonym even if I can't think of the word I want.
A gas station and drink combo? Is this a regional thing? lol I'm not sure I understand this one. My favorite drink is hot water but I've never ordered it at a gas station. What should I add to it to make it a combo? Ummm... I also like pretzels! So, hot water and pretzels!?
Lots of showtunes to get hyped up!
Stupid, poorly written, predictable Hallmark-esque, made-for-TV holiday movies. I'm not sure why I like them. They are fun and cute and no matter what, you know exactly what's going to happen.
What else? What else?! I need a banger of a fact to end this incredible survey you've crafted... My favorite animal is the zebra.
Thanks again for the offer for a match-up! If you've read through this and none of the Redacted Bois strike you as a good fit (or for whatever reason- I'm sure these are time-consuming to do!), do not worry at all about skipping this one. No problem at all! Hope you are having a great day/night!

Type Eights are truly some of my favorites types of people. There’s a confidence and strength and determination that comes with an Eight, that I think pairs well and is wonderfully tempered by the easygoing charm of a Type 9w8 like Asher.
That’s why David picked Asher as his Beta and why I think he’d be a lovely match for you. Where you and David and any Eight might think that you’ve got to do everything or it won’t get done right, Asher is a lovely reminder that other people, that he can be depended on and that you don’t need to fix everything alone.
Also, none of the Redacted bois- except for Guy- strike me as musical theatre kids, but Asher is definitely the most open-minded to getting in the car for a road trip and listening to the Ride the Cyclone album in order.
Song:
You take me in your arms/ And suddenly there's sunlight all around me/ Everything bright and warm/ And shining like it never did before/ And for a moment I forget/ Just how dark and cold it gets
I wanted to be original and find a cool, obscure showtune that you definitely didn’t already know, but this one just fits too well! The vulnerability and insecurity and joy of loving and being loved by a boy as sweet, warm, and giving as sunshine- it’s also one of my favorite duets~
Runner-Ups:
David was a thunker as a second, because I think he’s a Six, and Sixes and Eights can have this lovely “us against the world” strength and mentality I really admire. Geordi, who I headcanon as a Type Two, would really benefit from your presence and good influence in his life and would also love to watch your Hallmark movies with you.
Note: I would never skip you 💖
Want a match-up of your own? Read this post, and tell me about yourself! 💌

I am finally formulating thoughts about the andor show, so this is about to be very spoilery so probably don’t read on. Also I’m on mobile so I bet the formatting is fucked.
The show was amazing, obviously, well written, well acted, the designs were everything. But also it hit me and made me think in a way no other Star Wars media really has. Now that may be because I’m young, I was only 12 when Rogue One came out, and now revisiting it as an 18 year old I’m just hit by how well crafted these two pieces of media are. We know they’re doomed from the beginning, we know Cassian is dead when we start the show, and yet it’s the journey to get there that makes it worthwhile. Same with the rogue one crew, and while I have heard time and time again that it goes beyond Star Wars, Rogue One doesn’t work without Star Wars. It wouldn’t work if we didn’t know that these efforts weren’t for nothing. Watching a suicide mission would be ten times more unsatisfying if we didn’t know that what they did mattered. But it does, what Jyn and Cassian do MATTERS. And then you have the paradox of it standing apart from Star Wars by not wanting to just retell the same story of the Jedi and the Sith, but it doesn’t work without George Lucas and his movies. And that brings me to the fact that love is so important in this world, it is the catalyst for everything. Love is what doomed the republic, and yet love is what truly started the rebellion. Cinta and Vel, grappling with their love for each other versus their love for the cause. Maraca loving the people of Ferrix so much she encourages them to fight. Cassian loving people in general that even when he has a negative viewpoint on the world he can’t stop helping and fighting. His love for Maarva making him choose to take the Aldhani job, risking himself for a cause he believes in but doesn’t know he believes in yet. But even further back, his love for his sister leads to the events on Morlana. Even though in my opinion it was misguided and honestly a horrible act, Maarva’s choice to rescue Kassa was out of love for this child who she wanted to be safe, even if she didn’t know him, and definitely went about it the wrong way.
Overall, I think it’s telling that my two favorite pieces of media right now both are tragedies, and they aren’t shy about reminding you that they are tragedies. The story is still important to tell, the love and resistance. Hadestown is the other piece of media and the resemblance is striking. Cassian and Orpheus are so very different and yet they walk similar paths. We the audience know they are doomed, but the characters themselves do not. They are both catalysts for change, and yet they are motivated just by love. I am not very good at analyzing media I just had thoughts and I really need an edit of Cassian and Melshi to road to hell (reprise) because I think it would be amazing and yet it would make me cry. Also this show has dragged me back into Star Wars brain rot so apologies in advance

Ok I’m back with the songs 🫡
I can’t remember if anyone else has mentioned this, but finnick/sweet girl are very much giving this is me trying by miss blondie herself
——————
I've been having a hard time adjusting. I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting” “And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad. I have a lot of regrets about that”
This reminded me a lot about their recent argument at the end of chapter 6, where sweet girl called him a liar and accused him of purposely playing mind games with her :(
——————
“And it's hard to be at a party when I feel like an open wound. It's hard to be anywhere these days when all I want is you. You're a flashback in a film reel on the one screen in my town”
THIS MIGHT JUST BE FINNICKS ENTIRE INNER MONOLOGUE AFTER THEY BROKE UP #IDK !! OR !! HIS THOUGHTS DURING READER’S GAMES! How he has to keep up appearances and his playboy persona to make sure his sweet girl gets sponsors, but he’s actually feeling so much grief and stress.
——————
Another song they remind me of is  Wasteland, Baby! But specifically:
“I’m in love, I'm in love with you. And I love too, that love soon might end. Be known in its aching”
Just reminded me about how they’re meant to go through tragedy :((
——————
BONUS SONGS!
we can't be friends (wait for your love) by Ariana Grande’s SCREAMS young!reader going through the breakup with Finnick :((
——————
“We can't be friends, but I'd like to just pretend. You cling to your papers and pens, wait until you like me again. Wait for your love”
Just her initial reaction to the breakup and how she still loves him :((
——————
“I don't like how you paint me, yet I'm still here hanging”
“Me and my truth, we sit in silence. Baby girl, it's just me and you. ‘Cause I don't wanna argue, but I don't wanna bite my tongue, yeah, I think I'd rather die. You got me misunderstood, but at least I look this good” This reminds me of when Finnick was saying all those things he didn’t mean about his sweet girl, and although she’s hurt by it she still loves him (and deep down she knows he doesn’t mean it!)
——————
And Comfort Crowd by Conan Gray is so them coded like PLEASE mainly about how reader keeps rejecting any comfort because she doesn’t feel like she deserves it + how she was afraid to voice that she wants said comfort during her hijacking
——————
“Wellin' up in tears as I lay upon your belly. Telling you, ‘I’m fine I don't really need nobody,’ But you say through a sigh that I said that lie already”
Need I say more.
——————
“And even if I cry all over your body. You don't really mind. Say you like your shirt soggy.”
This could go for both Finnick and Reader! About how they both feel guilty for receiving comfort from the other person (Finnick bc he wants to give comfort too, and Reader bc she feels like she doesn't deserve it)
——————
I hope this isn’t too long hehe but these were my #thoughts. I’m a yapper at heart <3 lmk what you think!!
BUT SIDENOTE I SAW HADESTOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT W JORDAN FISHER AND !! His performance was fr giving me finnick vibes bc he was really giving that obsessed yearner vibe IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN IT LOL but it was so good!!
-🦅
buckle up folks because I love a lot to say 🫡❤️
this is me trying is so them, like very heavily
they're both really at their core such sunshiney people who've been so broken down and used by the world that they've really been dulled. and reader is always quick to bite back, especially when she's scared or frustrated or doesn't want to reveal her emotions, she doesn't have a complete grasp on reality yet, she's scared of being left behind, scared that finnick will die, scared of being alone and frustrated that he broke his promise to her so she lashes out.
110% to both of those, like he's so broken up, aching for her, in pain, blaming himself for everything, but he has to be what's expected of him. some drinks, laughing, flirting, smiling, when all he wants to do his curl up in bed crying as he holds into some remant of hers that he held onto all this time.
in the context of the most recent chapter "I just wanted you to know that this is me trying" is so very much both of them for different reasons
finnick says the things he does and does what he does because he wants to help her get better, to be delicate with her, keep her safe, keep her protected from the dangers of the time and her mental state. he's trying his hardest even if he doesn't always handle it in ways that bode well.
reader is trying to be herself again, she just wants to be treated normally regardless of how that affects her. once she's her she'll be less paranoid, more trusting, she's trying so hard to replicate that so she can get there and feels like he's not letting her. that her attempts are being shut down.
they are the tragic lovers, so in love, so obsessed, and constantly fated for hurt after hurt. all I'm saying is to watch moulin rouge and think of them because it's so finnick and his sweet girl in another life.
LITERALLY THOUGH if she could've she would've followed him around like a lost puppy dog, it would have fed into the narrative about her, but she's so desperately in love that she would have waited so patiently. in a way she did, but if he'd told her he was breaking up with her for other girls she was so young and so already achingly in love with him that she would have kept trailing around waiting for him to come baxk
(side note, finnick is really the love sick puppy, but reader reminds me of a stray cat who picks someone to love, always waits to be fed by them. given a little bit of attention and now will be attached for the long run. I thought googles description was really funny because it's just so her "With time and patience, a stray cat may trust you and want pets consistently. If you have grown close to a stray cat, it may feel upset or distressed if you suddenly leave it." so yeah she's a stray cat who finally got some love before being suddenly stranded again)
ANYWAYS yes, the way he talks about her and paints the portrait of their relationship is so hurtful. she totally cries about it consistently because to her he's perfect, and although she largely wants to believe what he said when they broke up and trust he still loves her, a part of her can't help but feel so stupid for letting herself be lead on by someone who's been said to be a playboy anyway. it makes her so insecure, so much more guarded, but she doesn't hate him, no she could never. she's in love with him. no matter what he says or does she's long placed her roots and won't tear them up.
that's literally the most them interaction to have never ever interacted, some of her tears have welled up, she's choking on pushed down sobs, and insisting that she's okay even though Finnick can read her like a book. he's softly scolding her for lying while she continues to try and insist until she's completely broken down into sobs.
reader could have the roughest day ever and still insist that she's fine, comfort finnick, love on him, hold him, and he spends the time hating that he's enjoying the loving when she's so obviously lying, masking everything. it's such a paradox. meanwhile she feels terrible for aching comfort because of things she does, she wants to suffer, but the lure of giving into finnick's arms is too much sometimes. especially knowing that he loves her so much and so well. she just has to let herself take what she needs even if she hates herself or it later.
ofc this isn't too long pookie, I love hearing y'all's thoughts no matter how long, yap to me endlessly pookie, I'm a yapper too. ❤️
YAY EXCITING I would love to see Jordan Fisher as Orpheus, he's so talented. I'd die, and yes it's just so Finnick 😭💕

I saw the first ever preview of Great Gatsby on Broadway. Here are my (pretty negative) thoughts.
Before I begin, I am just writing this for fun. This is not serious, and it's all my own opinion. We're all entitled to our own. I go on tangents as well so know this is more than a review. If you'd like to read more reviews, I try to upload once a week. ALSO THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.
On Friday, March 29th, 2024 I went to see The Great Gatsby on Broadway. It was their first preview, first time ever on a Broadway stage with a paying audience. My friend and I went, bought tickets the moment they went on sale. We sat back orchestra, not to the wall but close. Despite it's hype...it was a tad underwhelming.
_________________________________________________
Let's discuss the Headliners.
The show is commercialized as "Featuring Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada" which I understand is to rake in revenue necessary to keep the show running, but I hate when shows do that. I feel like it takes away from the work and talent of everyone else involved in the cast. Jeremy Jordan is a Broadway phenomenon, almost everyone knows his name. He is best known for his role as Jack Kelly in Newsies, but has since then gone on to do a ton of projects and concerts including the Greatest Showman's workshop, where he so famously discusses at a concert of his how he lost the role to Zac Efron. He's been in Little Shop Off-Broadway, which I had the pleasure of seeing him in and will definitely post a review of because it was a breathtaking performance from everyone involved but - I digress. My point is that everyone loves Jeremy Jordan. He is placed on this pedestal above everyone else, a renowned Broadway actor. He plays the leading man, Jay Gatsby, who has been in love with one Daisy Fay, now Daisy Buchanan, since they met years before when he was about to leave for war. Daisy is played by Eva Noblezada, a Broadway superstar best known for her role as Euridyce in Hadestown, or as superfans know her, as Kim in Miss Saigon. I had the pleasure of meeting both, Eva as she snuck out of a different stage door as the mob at the actual stage door was panic attack inducing, where she thanked us for coming and we chatted for a few. I met Jeremy after a Little Shop performance back in August, and he was one of the douchiest men I have ever met in my life.
And let me preface this all by saying that I cannot imagine how annoying it must be to feel like you have to be "on" all the time for people. Like you're an enigma people just want to look at, and all. I don't know a thing about showbiz. I do know, however, that it isn't too hard to be kind.
I cannot imagine how annoying it is to stage door all the time - to have so much privacy ripped away when you are as renowned as you are in the theater world - a world that so famously does not understand boundaries. But would it fucking KILL YOU to be the teensiest bit kind? Jordan threw my pen back at me after we met, barely signing my playbill. It looked like a chore to be out there, and there were only about 20 of us waiting at stage door that day. I assume, and this is coming from someone who knows next to nothing, that he doesn't HAVE to do stage door. If I'm wrong, ignore everything above. But if it's his choice, then don't fucking come out! I'd rather not meet someone if they're going to be rude than meet someone who makes me feel like it's annoying that I'm there.
All that being said, Jeremy's voice is no doubt superb. It's soft but passionate and I could listen to it for hours. He does, however, lack any wow factor when it comes to acting this role. He is able to reach in and become the character when he sings, but during speaking scenes I felt like I was watching a bad high schooler. Also, here's a game you can play if you go to see it. TAKE A FUCKING SHOT every time Jeremy Jordan says the term "Old Sport" in the show. You'll have alcohol poisoning by the end of it. I understand we wanted accuracy from the book and that that phrase has a lot of meaning for Gatsby's character but MAN the way Jordan says it made me want to swallow a pair of jorts or something.
Noblezada has a voice clearer than the seas in the Caribbean. It cuts like glass. She is an incredible performer, every note looks and sounds effortless. She did, in my opinion (and who the fuck am i, really) act Daisy much like she did Eurydice though. Her performance is lovely, per usual at the center of it all.
The letdowns.
Woof. First I'll start with Paul Whitty. Good fucking lord. What the hell??? How was he the choice for George Wilson. His voice wasn't as bad as someone else's who I'll discuss further down, but I mean. No one else? Really? Is no one searching in the casting calls that 200 people are in line for almost every week? His songs were lackluster and felt like an afterthought, space that needed filling. Second, I'm a huge fan of Eric Anderson, I saw him many times in the 394790173493 times I've gone to see Moulin Rouge on Broadway, and he was fantastic every time (per my review you can find on my page.) However, his performance as Meyer Wolfsheim was...boring to say the least. His character, granted, has very little stage time and only one big number, which opens Act II and while the choreo was very flashy, it wasn't anything like the Bad Romance x Toxic opening of Act II that Moulin Rouge has. Third, I think John Zdrojeski was the most confusing choice to play Tom Buchanan, Daisy's abusive, cheating husband. He's pretty nice to look at, sure. But his voice? Jesus Christmas they couldn't find ANYONE else?!?!!? Maybe it's because he had five singing lines total that I couldn't get a better feel of his voice, or maybe that choice was made on purpose because they knew Zdrojeski was gonna play him but his voice sucks so much. SO SO much. His vibrato sounded forced and the melody sounded off, it felt like they put him on stage just because he was a pretty good actor and had abs.
There were a few mishaps in terms of head pieces falling off - which I got the pleasure of hearing about from the costume people who sat behind me and discussed notes during intermission and many of the dresses looked quite baggy on the dancers, but otherwise it seemed pretty accurate.
The best parts.
My favorite, by far, was Samantha Pauly as Jordan Baker. She is the standout for me, capturing Jordan's essence perfectly. Spunky, doesn't give a fuck and a girl's girl. The costume choices for Jordan's character were done exquisitely as well, and Pauly's voice was show stopping. Noah J. Ricketts as Nick Carraway was another showstopper. Not only is he nice to look at, he's nice to listen to. His voice is smooth like butta, his acting is great and I loved the back and forth he and Pauly's characters had. The set was a wow factor for sure - if this is nominated for any Tony's (I'll be as surprised as Gatsby when Daisy turns him down if there aren't) the set should surely win. Created by Paul Tate dePoo III, the set glides on and off, the projections work seamlessly and overall I was in awe of the glitter and gold of it all. Platforms erupt from the floor in a nonchalant way, as if to say "we had all the money in the world for this show." The choreo, was also one of the best things to watch. Choreographed by the well-rounded and talented Dominique Kelley, the choreo captures the era of this show (NYC 1922) well. I loved her choice for a tap number as much as I enjoyed the acrobatic-esque moves she made for the stellar, electric ensemble. All toes were pointed, all legs were extended, and it's clear, or it translated to the audience, that that was a part of the show everyone was confident in.
Sara Chase, who plays Myrtle Wilson deserved so much more stage time. What a fucking voice. Her energy, her lack of empathy for anyone but herself, I mean shit. She was so good. They didn't do her justice, but then again I forgot the Wilson's were even a part of the book until I saw the show again. Two of the dresses she wore (one being a very impressive on stage quick change where a literal rolling clothing hanger like the ones in malls rolls in front of her and when its past her shes in an entirely new dress) looked very baggy and her character's wig was god awful, looking like it was plucked out of an amazon package 10 minutes before curtain. But she was impressive regardless.
The music was pretty entertaining, written by Jason Howland with lyrics by Nathan Tysen. The songs "New Money," "The Met" and Gatsby's ballad "Past is Catching Up to Me" were star songs and have been stuck in my head for days. The ending of Act I "My Green Light" which has been teased on all of GG's social media accounts was as good as it sounded. There is no doubt that Jordan and Noblezada will go down in history as two of the most impressive singers on Broadway.
If you have the chance to see it, I think you should. Not for more than, like $150 with the way ticket prices are but it's definitely worth the music, set and Samantha Pauly.
Best part though? Every seat was given a mini copy of the book. My seat, however, apparently had the only signed copy of the book in the theater. So, thats pretty fucking sick.

i'm about to say something highly controversial so musical theater girlies who loved everything about hadestown and would prefer not to hear anything negative about it press j
okay.
hadestown is riiiight up my alley. i fucking love greek mythology and i love modern takes on old myths and stories, romeo + juliet is one of my favorite pieces of media. before bootlegging it watching it very legally i'd heard only a couple songs, wait for me and wait for me reprise, way down hadestown, and why we build the wall. and i was excited! i absolutely loved what i'd heard, and i'd seen so many people getting hugely emotional over it on social media AND in person, and i was just, ready to have my heart broken.
and instead i sat there and thought "oh...uhm....uhhh....is that it. is that. it??"
i just wanted so much more out of it. i was expecting--as i think many people were--for The Wall to be much more political. and it just wasn't. it's just sort of there. the show does not at all feel like it's About the exploitation of hadestown, the workers just sort of exist as a backdrop, a status quo that is so much of a status quo that the musical can't even acknowledge that it could be changed.
and that would almost be fine by itself, not every musical Has to be about politics. it could be primarily about the character relationships. and yet...nothing in the show endeared me to orpheus or eurydice either, much less sold me on their chemistry with each other. i just simply didn't end up caring about the story, realizing halfway through that i wanted to be watching once on this island instead.
anyway. it's such a beloved musical that i find myself not totally understanding what everyone else is seeing in it. i almost feel like everyone else is just listening to the soundtrack and imagining a better story was involved, because conceptually it's lovely, but it just didn't deliver for me. anyone else? just me? idk.

My top 6 favorite musicals
6. Next to Normal
This list was gonna be a top 5 but I couldn’t not include this musical. I’ve only seen one production of it and it was actually at my college but it was the best production I ever saw there. Really pulls at the heart strings and it has wonderful music.
5. Beetlejuice the Musical
I finally got to see this for the first time back in December and it was just really fun! Phenomenal set design and costume design and of course amazing performances. It even made me cry during one scene and I wasn’t expecting this one to make me cry! Also made me a bit nostalgic for the movie. Just so much fun and definitely a must-see for live theatre!
4. Fun Home
This musical absolutely breaks me every damn time. Even just listening to the soundtrack gets me crying, this musical destroyed me in the best way. I unfortunately have a bittersweet memory of it as it’s the last show that my ex and I worked on together right before we broke up (I was the SM & she was Medium Alison), so I haven’t been able to listen to it or even think about it since, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is such a fantastic and heartbreaking musical that resonated with me so well.
3. Hadestown
Oh my GOD this musical gives me chills. I’ve gotten to see it live twice and both times have just left me so awe-struck, I don’t know quite how to explain it. Everything is just phenomenal. The story telling, the set, the acting, the singing, the music, the choreography. Seeing this musical was one of those experiences that reminds you exactly why you’re pursuing what you’re pursuing. This musical made me fall in love with theatre all over again and reminded me why I want to do it.
2. Legally Blonde the Musical
I will always love this musical and it will always hold a special place in my heart, especially as a feminist. This is such a good musical for women and feminism in general. The way that Elle learns that she doesn’t have to change who she is in order to be successful is SUCH an important message for women and girls. Being feminine doesn’t make you any less serious and people shouldn’t think less of a woman simply for the way she chooses to live her life. Also, Elle and Emmett are just adorable and one of the cutest couples in musical theatre. I’ll always have a soft spot for this show.
1. Into the Woods
What I consider to be a theatrical masterpiece. This show will ALWAYS be my favorite. It’s the first musical I ever fell in love with and it’s never leaving my #1 spot. I just don’t see that happening. The storytelling is some of the most creative and genius storytelling I’ve seen in theatre. The music is obviously iconic and challenging as hell but SO good. There are so many clever themes and motifs, so much symbolism and parallels, I could go on about my analysis of each character and their respective character arc. I also just love the way they were able to tie multiple iconic fairytale stories together and they touch on what happens after “happily ever after” and I just love that. I remember when the movie came out and people thought it should’ve ended on the happy ending (which would be the end of act 1 in the stage version), and it just bugged me how those people so clearly missed the whole point of the second act. The show is telling us that life isn’t as simple as “happily ever after.” This musical is one of the few musicals that wasn’t afraid to touch on more taboo subjects and darker storylines, and I love it so much for all of that.
