“so that’s it? you’re not even going to talk to me?” miguel stares at your moving figure, who’s hastily picking up a fresh shirt from the dryer. “never realized i’m actually dating a child” he scoffs when you don’t answer to him,

before the two of you started dating, you already knew how many girls miguel had swept off their feet. the ex-girlfriends, the jealous glares, the talking in between groups. it does brings the greatest displeasure in you to witness all of that. but miguel’s top priority is to ease your worries, and he doesn’t want to lose you over something that’s not worth to be talked about.

but the thing is, miguel sometimes forget how to set boundaries. almost like he’s not even trying anymore.

like today during practice. when you were practicing your tumblings and routines whilst miguel did his football drills. your eyes fell upon a familiar blonde girl from the volleyball team making her way towards your boyfriend.

it’s not like you don’t allow miguel to talk with other girls, you’re not as insane. letting a girl touch and feel his biceps is another story. you don’t need a damn book to know what the girl’s intentions are. obviously she was being flirty. blinking her eyes up at him, subtly biting her lip though knowing he’s taken.

the girl was previously known to be acting like a total slut. not that you’re shaming her when it really is a fact. prances herself around other guys even though their taken. you and gloria shares the same mutual dislike towards her when she had told you how the blonde kept trying to get into beck’s pants. thankfully, beck knows how to handle it.

so you waited. waited and watched at how your boyfriend would respond. instead he did nothing. nothing but a smile on his face without brushing the girl’s touch. they carried on a small talk

it broke your heart. and to some, it may sound a little bit too exaggerated but they wouldn’t know for sure until their partner was being felt up by other people and them not doing anything about it.

you were about to make your way towards the two of them, wanting nothing but to rip that girl’s hair off of him but stopping when your coach calls you to inform the practice is starting soon,

your mind wasn’t at ease for one bit during practice.

“i’m a child for wanting to communicate over what happened today? yeah, sure. talk your fucking shit, o’hara” you reply to him, rolling your eyes as you furiously toss your other belongings into a bag. “a real keeper you are”

the sound of his last name falls upon your lips doesn’t feel right to him. sure, you may have called him that in a fun manner but he knows that this time you’re actually pissed.

and miguel is not an expert at expressing his feelings and emotions. he’s got a lot to learn. the only way he knows how it to use anger and frustrations, which is something that he should control. especially when he’s talking to you.

“por el amor de dios! are you serious? we’re still on about that?! get over it, muñeca. it’s not a big of a deal!” he exclaims, removing his shirt before throwing it away on the nearest chair of his room,

“not a big of a deal?!” your tone rising as you walk out of the bathroom to see him. “you let another girl felt you up, letting her get close to you and you said that it was nothing?! are you out of your mind!”

“veronica and i were just talking! am i not allowed to talk to other girls simply because i’m dating you? that’s quite ridiculous, baby” he chuckles but there’s no humor in it, almost like he’s mocking you. receiving a baffled look from you.

“stop putting words in my mouth, that’s not what i said! you missed the part where i said you were letting another girl touching you, when you already have a girlfriend!” you point at him, trying to get him to understand but it seems like it’s no use. seeing him only roll his eyes and dismissing your words with a wave of his hand. it furthers your already broken heart to more pieces,

“fucking immature little shit” you spit, going back to zip up your bag,

he laughs loudly at that, shaking his head. “look who’s talking!” he turns around to face you. “i can’t control the people that like me, sweetheart. what am i supposed to do with that?”

“you really are entitled and narcissistic” you laugh sadly, “maybe try setting up boundaries between people especially girls? ever thought of that?”

“ever thought about not being insecure and jealous all the time? may come off handy”

and that does it. the words just pierced right through your heart, making you stop your movements all together.

never thought in your life that miguel would be the one person to say all of that to you. is that how he views you as? a insecure girl?

is it wrong that you love your boyfriend so much that you want him all to himself and for him to learn how to listen to you?

“if that’s how you feel, then maybe we should just end it here” your eyes turning glossy, trying not to break down in front of him. “if you missed being flirted by other girls or flirting back to your flings, then i am not stopping you. so instead of making me feel like shit, calling me insecure, we should just see other people”

that’s not what miguel had expected you to say. his blood runs cold, face faltering at your suggestion because that is not what he wants. not at all.

hearing what he just said to you makes him want to crawl into a hole and let himself die. he didn’t mean it! he didn’t mean what he said, he’s just grown tired of this argument that he wanted nothing but to end it. yet instead of making you feel secured and listen to you, he chooses the latter.

holy fuck, o’hara what have you done?!

“wh—n-no! muñeca, I didn’t mean what i said, i did—“ he stutters, walking closer towards you only for you to step back. “baby please i wasn’t thinking—“

“exactly! you weren’t!” you yell, picking up your bag and getting ready to walk out of his room, the frat house and his life for good. “i’m giving you, your freedom card from now on”

this can’t be it, right? fuck, no, no, no

“you’re not leaving” he says while trailing you from behind, hands shaking at mind in scrambles at the thought of you walking out of him for good. “y/n please—please don’t leave me—i’m sorry—i—i cut off every girls on campus if you want me to, just stay—please” he tries to reach out to you but your pace is quicker while walking down the stairs, ignoring the looks from some of his frat brothers,

shaking your head, you try to ignore the pain in his voice. part of you wants to hug him and tell him that you won’t be going anywhere. but part of you realize that this time, you need to put yourself first. because as much as you love him, you love yourself more,

this is going to be painful.

“that’s not what i want you to do, i just— i can’t do this, miguel. at least not now” your head shaking, voice lowering to prevent the eavesdropping ears from the kitchen. “i—i need to think, for a while. competition is coming up and exams are too—everything is just so overwhelming. i think we need a break. i think you need a break”

“a break?! I don’t need a break. i need you” his voice cracking, tears welling up in his eyes as he gathers your hands quickly and pull them into his chest. “i love you, muñeca—please—i’m so sorry—i’ll do better i promise. just stay, por favor”

his eyes are pleading at you, staring intently into your eyes as his grip tighten around your smaller hands. for just one second, you almost cave in.

almost,

you smile sadly, “just give it a week or two, okay? and we’ll see after that”

but miguel doesn’t need a week or two. he doesn’t need to see after. he knows who he wants to spend the rest of his life with. he knows who he wants to marry. he knows who he wants to have his kids with.

and it’s always going to be you, no one else.

however looking at the state of you now, miguel has no right to force you to do anything. he cares too deeply about you,

so he complies,

“o-okay” he nods and agrees with a heavy heart. “if that’s what you want—i’ll give you space, but just know that you’re the only one that i want. the only girl i want to have by my side. keep that in mind, okay?”

a small smile appears on your lips, as you reach up in your tippy toes and give him a soft kiss on his cheek before you turn around and open the door. giving him one last look and walk out of the house, carrying his heart as you do.

miguel breathes out a shaky sigh, watching the door closes. his tears are rolling down his cheeks without him realizing.

without you here right now, what else is he supposed to do?

Thank you so much for the lovely words <3 it's really such a honor to hear that so many people consider my art to be very expressive, which I think is an essential skill to have for storytelling in comics!

First of all, I'd like to say this isn't something I can easily answer... you must already know there's no easy step-by-step guide on how to be "good" at art or expressions or whichever aspect you're trying to improve, the answer will always be observation and practice. However, I can tell you some of my methods I use to make sure emotions are conveyed as efficiently as possible(?). Here are the key points I always try to apply (note that these aren't rules, these are just my guiding points):

Understanding the character(s), the context, and how the two work together

Laying down a foundation

Not letting dialogue be the main driving force behind storytelling

Paneling conveys emotion too, actually

The absence of something can also convey emotion

You didn't specifically ask about comics, but since it's my favorite subject and it ties into your question, I'll be using a lot of examples from the comics I made! And it might interest other people who were curious?

VERY long post ahead :)

1. Understanding the character(s), the context, and how the two work together

This is what I think is the most fundamental part of storytelling! I mean, makes sense, right? Obviously you don't need a PhD in The Character to make stories based off them. I literally cannot tell you every detail about my favorite characters despite loving them very much, but I think understanding them and their relationships on a big-picture level is primordial. What drives them, what are their principles, what are their biggest fears, who do they make exceptions for, etc. Also, to me, understanding their relationships is sometimes more important than understanding the character at a molecular level. We can tell so much about someone just from the way they interact with specific people vs how they interact with strangers. The person I am online isn't the same I am with friends nor even with family-- like one of the reasons some characters can feel one-dimensional is because they don't show variation in their character throughout their relationships (and since you mentioned Kaveh and Alhaitham, I don't need to tell you the way both of them interact with each other is far removed from the way they interact with friends, strangers, etc... I think a lot of people forget who they are outside of their relationship, which a huge point of contention behind mischaracterization in fan works). I don't have much to say about this other than this is something I keep in mind every step of the way through.

2. Laying down a foundation

This is what the majority of my comics look like on second draft:

I said second because the first drafts usually look like this, which are barely comprehensible to anyone but myself:

The purpose of these are not only to give me a better guide for posing than whatever i did on the first draft (storyboard), but also have a first pass at motion and emotion. The expressions and gestures are legible enough that you can probably glean the emotions of each character based off the little sketches. Ultimately, some of the things I'll draft will end up adjusted, changed, expanded on or even removed.

This particular panel of Reigen is a favorite of mine, because the first pass already shows his confusion, but the final one is even more distorted because it felt like it needed to be even more accentuated.

This panel where he mansplains is also a good example, because the first pass gave him too much of an arrogant/uninterested look (notable with his upturned face), whereas Reigen is more likely to take pride in explaining something he knows to make himself look like a wise and mature figure (notable with his slight smirk and downturned face, as if nodding to himself; the hand is also slightly more forward as if inviting rather than dismissing). And since I basically made an example of it above: body language is super important! This applies for everyone. It doesn't stop at characters who make grand gestures and exaggerated poses every waking moment of their life, but also characters who are socially awkward, private, reclusive...

The posing here is intentionally stiff but not entirely closed off, giving the sense that he's earnest, tries his best to make connections , but also doesn't want to take too much space, thinking the smallest wrong move could cause trouble. Also, give room for the body to do its thing. Avoid cropping out things that shouldn't be cropped out. Leave enough room between the edges of the panel and the point of focus to emphasize what you want to emphasize. Close-up shots shouldn't be too frequent (in fact, personally I don't like doing close-up shots but it doesn't mean they're bad or shouldn't be done, again, my word isn't gospel!), especially if what you're conveying isn't too emotionally charged. Lastly, I have terrible news for people who hate drawing hands. Hands are possibly the second most expressive part of our body (if we don't count the body as a whole), so especially for your charismatic characters, you will very often want to use hands as a tool of expression.

(Think how much emotion and personality would be lost if the hands weren't there!)

3. Not letting dialogue be the main driving force behind storytelling

With my comics, I play an incredibly dangerous game called "I'll think of dialogue as I make the storyboard and then when I'm done drawing every page I'll write the dialogue over it guided solely by memory and whatever I drew". Don't do this. Have a script in hand or write it at the same time as you draft your storyboard. The reason I do this is because I'm lazy and I don't want to open a simple writing software to type down a script. Genuinely I have no other reasons. Anyway, the only advantage this gives to my comics is that they will generally be able to stand on their own without much dialogue; obviously dialogue is essential, but what I mean is that we don't need it to have a pretty accurate read on the room.

For example, if I remove all the dialogue from this page, you probably can't guess exactly what's being discussed. However, you can identify through their emotions alone that there is disbelief, bargaining, and finally a pretty devastating info was dropped. Alternatively, cutting down dialogue from your page and leaving room to expressions/body language alone can be entirely more beneficial than having any dialogue to begin with.

AKA Readers aren't stupid (some may be, but the majority can extrapolate just fine). You'll realize how much you don't need words and how your stories can be even more funny/impactful by pushing forward visual storytelling.

4. Paneling conveys emotion too, actually

Being a "good" artist isn't enough to make good comics. The way you panel things is extremely important, because it sets the tone, mood, pace, you name it. Some of the best works out there are the ones with the most care put into the flow of the comic. You need to understand how people will read it, and it starts with what order you deliver the information and how. This is paneling 101, but a page with irregularly shaped panels, multiple changing camera angles and such will be exponentially more dynamic than a page where each panel is the same size, have similar compositions and/or repetitions with little to no diagonal or curved lines of action.

The two examples above are WIPs from 2 different stories so unfortunately you'll have to make do with the rough sketches. That being said, you don't need to know the context of either pages to know the kind of emotion that should be felt through the paneling alone. Give time for the important emotions to be processed by the reader (unless it's intentionally fast-paced). Every emotion that needs to be emphasized should have its own panel.

In this example, I could easily have condensed these two panels into one by transferring the dialogue from the second into the first and jumping on to the next action. However, it would undeniably give much less impact to Kaveh's disbelief. On an inverse situation, sometimes you will want to condense two panels you made into one, because whatever those two panels are doing are perhaps not important enough to deserve separate panels! Lastly, you can notice that the space on the page is not always filled. Leaving space between each panel and/or between the edges of the page gives room for the reader to breathe and slows down the flow; and inversely, if you want to make the situation more frantic, make everything look more tight and constricted.

5. Not showing facial expressions sometimes conveys more emotion than doing so

This ties nicely to the point I made about body language. You don't need to see a character's face to know what they're going through, necessarily. Sometimes, their posture or their dialogue is enough. In my opinion, a story is more compelling when this equilibrium of facial expressions / body language / paneling / dialogue is correctly adjusted-- you will not need to have all the elements to convey the message or it could be a little overbearing. I don't have many examples for this one because they tend to be more relevant in dramatic scenarios, which I haven't done that many of.

And that's about it for my insane guide on comic-ing. I hope ANY of it made sense.

Here's a round up of extra tips, focused entirely on the drawing part which might be more of what you asked to begin with :'D

- That little line/wrinkle that adds so much character

Yall know what I'm talking about. In my opinion, too many artists are afraid of giving laugh lines/wrinkles because it makes their characters look older, except when it's to add those sexy sexy eyebags. I'm encouraging everyone to add them to their art little by little and see how much it can improve the expressiveness! Obviously, I don't use it everywhere, but it's a very effective way to make your expressions feel even more... well. expressive.

- Line of action

You've probably seen this picture going around before, from Preston Blair:

Although it's called line of action which implies action, this line is important even when the character isn't really in action.

You can gain a lot in expressiveness when you think of the body as one whole fluid instead of a sum of multiple disjointed parts. This is why drawing a very rough base comprised of only lines and circles can help figure out if the posing works before you start refining it.

On a different note, animation principles work very much in comics as well! I recommend looking up animation guides especially those that show how to make key poses.

- Shadows and/or color fill

This is one I will use quite often for different situations.

Shadows can immediately set a tone when they're used dramatically. For example, a shadow over a character's face can convey unease and/or evil intent.

On the other hand, I will use color fills for different purposes:

Differentiating ground layers

This can help with readability.

2. Conveying a certain mood

It can separate the character from the color of their background to give a sense of isolation, reflection, realization, being disconnected from their surroundings, etc...

- Don't be scared of using codes / tropes / archetypes

...As long as it benefits the narrative, of course. By codes / tropes / archetypes, I mean posing or expressions or visual effects that are universally understood and used for specific expressions. The semicircle sweatdrops and blush made with slashes are incredibly typical of manga/anime, but it doesn't mean they're bad! Visual effects are there to help remove the ambiguity of an expression considering a single expression without visual codes could convey multiple emotions!

- Find what inspires you and take notes!!!

In my case, what greatly shaped my art style to what it currently is: One Piece, the Ace Attorney series and Mob Psycho 100 (yes, I only watched the latter last year but it still managed to become a source of improvement/inspiration for my art even at my current level, because you'll never stop improving :) )

(The other request)

The gallery was stunning. You had specifically ordered to have as many plants as possible in it. White and light green, pearlescent fabrics adorned the walls while the soft sunlight flooded the rooms of the art exhibition. The paintings reflected lots of emotion and made the viewers think about the story behind them, even after leaving the gallery.

But there was one very special painting that attracted a lot of attention; It was two men, both in tailored suits, kissing. The little plaque next to the canvas read ‘Our wedding.’ And that’s when two worlds collided. One of the men was obviously identifiable, this was Y/n L/n; A world famous artist, who this exhibition was dedicated to. But as far as the public knew, you were unmarried. Strange.

Then there was another man on the right side of the picture. You had painted beautiful light hues onto the mans face, with the utmost care he was portrayed on the canvas. Art fanatics knew a lot of people, whether it was Claude Monet or Umberto Boccioni. But this person wasn’t part of the art universe. Or at least if you don’t count speed as art in itself.

But only a minute of research would show that this was Max Verstappen – though what does that mean? You two weren’t connected in any way shape or form. Or at least not publicly. What does an esthetic, artful genius have to do with the dominator of the pinnacle of motorsport?

Max was gently holding your waist; this was about to be interesting. Once you both entered the fancy building, you were immediately spotted by Paparazzi. He was THE Max Verstappen, obviously they were keen on snapping a picture of him. What they didn’t expect to see was a man by his side, holding onto him like they were a… couple?

This was like light to a moth; they took as many pictures as their cameras allowed them to take. The media was absolutely going to love this. The event you two were attending had a restricted number of Interviewers allowed, but the ones that were present had already set their eyes on you like eagles.

Quickly hurrying away, you found the table at which Christian and Geri were sitting at. Those two were the only people you’ve trusted to talk about your… relationship. Christian offered Max and yourself an understanding smile while Geri began chatting about how lovely the setup was.

You had to admit, the event was well planned. The food was amazing, the drinks tasted wonderful, and the décor was stunning. But you couldn’t shake that uncomfortable feeling of being watched with every step you take. Max noticed your stressed expression and slid his hand onto your thigh while offering you a slight smile. The atmosphere darkened as the lights slowly dimmed and the stage lit up. A man stood on it, thanking everybody for coming. He then shortly introduced the band that would play a few songs after his speech.

This was the moment you were scared of the most, now you had to participate in Interviews. Max pulled you to his side, giving your hip a gentle squeeze, as if to assure you. The grey-haired interviewer was smiling, if you squinted lightly, he looked like the cheshire cat. “Max Verstappen! Great to see you and your…?”, he glanced at you, still smiling. “My husband.” Now the Interviewer looked startled, his eyes widened at Max’s words while his gaze shifted towards the dutch again. The rumors of your painting had spread into the corners of the press, but not really taken seriously, after all there’s many lunatics in this world. The man’s unsure expression was replaced by a smile again. “Ah yes, the painting.”, he looked back at you.

“Y/n l/n, apparently that painting was made in 2018? Now considering it’s depicting your marriage, did you two in fact get married in 2018 or was it more a… artistic expression?”, he stunk of cigarettes and cheap perfume. You tried masking your disdain with a smile. “We did indeed get married in October 2018. Around the same time i made this painting.”, your tone was polite and lighthearted, like a feather in the wind. The grey-haired interviewer seemed to think for a second before speaking up again. “What was the specific reason for not publicly announcing your spouse?” His ice blue eyes now peered at Max, though your husband seemed unfazed. “The public doesn’t need any information about mine or his private life. This information is not essential for the media.”, Max dismissed, excusing himself and you.

With a sweet smile on his face, he guided you towards the terrace to the side of the building. The night air was fresh and clear. Max leaned his back against the railing, studying your features in the soft moonlight. You took a step forward; both of your noses were almost touching. “We did it.”, you then closed the distance between the two of you and caught your husbands’ lips in a sweet kiss. You could feel him smile into the kiss.

vance isn't very good at handling his emotions in general so sometimes he's not exactly sure on how protective he should be , he just knows he wants to protect you

he cares abt you a lot which means nothing's happening to you. like at all

he's the toughest kid at school so most people don't even try

if they do though they're paying for it in the worst ways imaginable

someone says something even slightly rude to you? yea he's gonna make them fear for their life

he tried his best to keep his anger under control especially for you so most of the time he doesn't actually do much. they might get grabbed by the shoulders or thrown a bit but that's the least of what he usually does so it's better than the other option

when they test him however he's SERIOUS

pretty sure brady confirmed him to be a sociopath and that if you mess w him he comes back worse

so yea you're basically safe from pretty much everything

other than being an absolute menace to everyone around that he thinks might cause you an ounce of any kind of harm he's genuinely really sweet towards you

maybe not exactly romantic simply bc he's a little awkward (he doesn't get into many romantic relationships due to his habits of threatening people daily) but it'll be clear he favors you over others

he'll let you wear his jacket every once in a while just bc the happiness it gives you makes him even happier than you are (even if the scowl on his face doesn't show it)

he'd be hesitant to let you wear his choker since his mom made it for him but after a while he'd probably let you wear it while he could make sure it didn't get ruined or anything

anyway back to the protective stuff

he occasionally (often) misjudges when he's actually needed

someone bumped into you in the hall? they're now bumped against the lockers by their shoulders and being yelled at

very awkward conversation afterwards bc he'd try his best to defend his behavior

would make it up to you in some subtle way. might buy you a bag of chips a week later when you've already forgotten abt the whole ordeal

he's not good at apologizing like AT ALL simply bc he just doesn't do it often. the most apologizing he does is to his mom when he's at the police station again

his definition of apologizing after a fight between him and someone he thought was a threat to you would be him buying you something tbh

not many apologies through words

dude is horrible at communicating in general honestly

he would NOT be abusive in the slightest. honestly he'd be the absolute opposite

he looks very intimidating (and he is) but he loves being close to you and sharing moments when no one else is around

he's not too big on pda unless someone is flirting w you

then you get an arm around you and the other person gets a fist to their face

most romantic gesture you'd ever get from him honestly

if you ever had any bullies before you started dating you definitely don't anymore

even if you kept it a secret from him he'd find out somehow one way or another

honestly it's all gonna be taken out on the bullies

he's definitely been dragged away by cops a couple of times because he wanted to protect you

even though he's not that good at communication from his side if you ever stated his overprotective behavior bothered you he'd try his best to fix it

of course he'd still let his anger control him every once in a while but most of the time he'd ask you for permission to beat them up before he actually does

vance has a dude hanging from the collar of his shirt and just casually looks to you for permission to knock him out

whenever you say no though he huffs in a disappointed matter but drops him n just walks away grumbling

I usually dont mind ppl having different interpretations of characters and relationships, but this is just an insult to my boy’s character and his connection to nagi.

Reo may have developed an interest in nagi bc of his talent (and i find the notion of him doing the same thing he hated his family for at the start very interesting btw), but since then he obviously has developed an emotional attachment, and to him, it has to be nagi. he’s met people with even more skill than him in blk but he still hasnt spared them a 1/100 of the attention he gives to his best friend.

ofc i think it was important for them to improve on their own and maybe it was premature of him to go back to devoting himself to nagi so quickly, but i truly believe its bc he understood nagi’s perspective since he “abandoned him” and his true intentions.

the difference in their perspectives is very clear even before they enter blue lock:

at that point winning the world cup was just reo’s dream but even then, to reo, the most important thing was for them to be together until the end (nagi was the one who made him promise that would be the case too !!) , while nagi was content with just going along with him bc he started caring abt him as a person

until they lost to isagi’s team. from that moment, he decided (and was right imo) that they need to do whatever they can, even if they have to take separate paths for some time, to get stronger.

and nagi didnt “lose sight of their og goal” what are they talking about?? nagi literally mentions/thinks about their dream to be the best together every chance he gets?? he even got mad at reo cause he thought his friend was the one who forgot about their dream. he thought he was taking the vital steps to make it a reality and was frustrated reo couldnt see that:

reo felt betrayed because he cared about nagi himself as much as he cared about their dream and thought that nagi used him as a stepping stone to move forward alone, when actually it would be more accurate to say that nagi views everyone except for reo as a stepping stone. (i dont blame reo for this, since even tho nagi tried to communicate that hes doing it for them, he did a terrible job of it).

but during their latest talk reo had already worked on himself and had acknowledged the fact that he was in the wrong for assuming that them being together no matter the cost was the right thing

so when nagi approached him and explained himself a little better this time (boy was shocked when he realised how reo took their separation and put in a little bit more effort lol)

reo finally understood how their desires intertwine now. how can people claim that reo sees nagi as a tool when its more of the other way around; meaning reo sees himself as a tool for making nagi the best striker in the world and he already declared that to Ego before:

plus saying that he and nagi arent friends and they are just using each other is so out of touch with everything we’ve seen so far. reo’s devotion to nagi aside, nagi too cares for reo a lot outside of soccer. even after he left reo, he still got excited to see him and talk to him despite everything; to him it was obvious they would continue to interact no matter which team each of them was on:

and he also felt bad for hurting him and expressed the hope that he would forgive him

the only thing that i wish would happen now is for nagi to apologise to reo face to face instead of only doing it in his own thoughts, and for reo to also talk about why he was hurt. but i feel like they understood each other either way without many words, because in the end, their bond is just that strong.

they now both want to succeed more than they ever have before and have stopped being their complacent selves we met during the first selection. they are both thinking far into the future and not just within blue lock, so whether they keep moving forward together or separated from now on, it will be knowing they are working towards their shared dream.

Okay, I'm going to start from the beginning. As far as how they got to be Kamukuras, I'm thinking the school already wanted to use young children, they were scouting Hope's Peak Elementary for kids who could feasibly go missing, and, when they found out about the UDG kids' home situations, they realized they had enough blackmail on their parents that they couldn't object to having their children used for the Kamukura Project.

Masaru would be a lot lower-energy once he's been Kamukurafied. His emotions have been suppressed, after all. He still has inklings of a "sporty" side, but after spending so much time in medical restraints, he only expresses that side of himself when no one is looking. And when he does, it doesn't resemble play at all. Most of the time, he moves slowly and languidly from place to place, his neck slack with boredom, but then when no one's eyes are on him he'll break into a sprint or climb. He makes regular escape attempts. The prospect of escaping the labs is the one thing focusing his energy. He doesn't really have a plan or objective for once he gets out; he just needs to get out. He needs to be where he isn't at anyone else's mercy.

He's hostile to the scientists, but it usually manifests harmlessly; most days, he's more obnoxious than anything. He'll correct people when they're incorrect about even the smallest thing. "You didn't know that, did you?" is pretty much his new catchphrase, as he's often rattling off highly specialized information they didn't ask for. When they do ask him questions, he'll answer in another language just to be inconvenient.

But also, every now and then, he will attack them, if they leave a syringe or scalpel in grabbable range of him. A few of them have been stabbed or slashed in some pretty important arteries. He might have killed some doctors.

His default expression is an angelic grin, because he knows it unsettles them.

Jataro I think would be highly introverted. He'd ignore the scientists more than anything. Most of his interactions with them would be swiping things from their pockets to take apart; his room is filled with disassembled pens and penlights that used to be theirs. Whenever he gets to hold an object in his hands, he feels compelled to strip it down to its base components. If he ever got his hands on a plant, he'd pull the leaves and petals off and generally rip it to tiny pieces. Same for small animals, etc. It's just something he does. He wouldn't say he likes it; he just does it.

He's not nearly as socially-inclined as Masaru. He doesn't talk to the scientists pretty much at all, but he talks out loud to himself a lot. Murmurs, really. Just a vocalized stream of consciousness. Sometimes he talks about the scientists, to himself, but he doesn't answer when they speak to him. He doesn't believe there's a point. He's nothing to them, after all. No matter what he says to them, they'll hurt him if it occurs to them that the project might benefit.

His default expression is blank. Sometimes he laughs, but it's more an energy outlet than an expression of any emotion.

Kotoko is always tense. She often hides. Like Masaru, she lashes out at the scientists, but unlike him, her goal is to cause them as much suffering as possible. She's not targeting the circulatory system; she's targeting the nervous system. She's breaking expensive equipment in expensive ways. Like Jataro's destructive streak except, again, her goal is to have as many unpleasant consequences for her captors as possible.

She is no longer triggered by the same word as before; now she is triggered by her old name.

Her default expression is just a haunting Kubrick stare.

Nagisa is pretty much exactly what they were trying to make. He answers their questions completely, truthfully, and clearly. If they ask him to kill someone, he'll do it. He has completely bought into the established power dynamic in which he is a tool. He is calm, emotionless, and excellent.

His default expression is normal, because he's learned how to do that.

And Monaca imitates. She copies the speech patterns and facial expressions of the scientists when she's with them, and does the same with her fellow Lil Kamukuras when she's with them. She's similar to Makoto, as far as being more focused on understanding others than being a person herself, but she doesn't reach the conclusion that things must matter because someone else cares; she feels they're all wrong to care about such pointless things.

The Lil Kamukuras all like each other well enough. In fact, they're quite attached to each other. The other Lil Kamumuras are the only ones who can get Jataro to eat, the only ones Kotoko won't hide from. They're often placed in the same room to observe what they'll do. They understand each other and get along much better than any of them gets along with the scientists. Except Nagisa; he considers himself a tool, doesn't feel a need to socialize with the other tools, and will not join in any escape attempts.

Monaca doesn't care about escaping in and of itself; she's just mirroring the other Lil Kamukuras.

Mahiru or Izuru is the one to find out about the Junior branch of the program. They go to break it up and free the subjects without the others; Nagito is a bit too chaotic, and there's an unspoken reluctance to involve the younger ones unnecessarily.

When the older Kamukuras free them, killing a lot of scientists in the process, they earn a bit of respect from the kids. Nagisa takes it in stride that the people he was made to serve are dead, so he should obey their killers now. Kotoko and Masaru get in on the killing as soon as the opportunity arrives and so have already fought alongside Izuru and Mahiru by the time they are formally introduced. Monaca goes with the flow as always, and Jataro goes wherever his friends go.

That said, Kotoko doesn't agree to go with them right away. She doesn't want to be locked up in a new place with stronger captors this time.

"If Blue Hair is adamant about going with our predecessors and Pink Hair is adamantly opposed, it means it's impossible for all of us to stay together," Jataro murmurs to himself.

"Do you want me to drag her?" Nagisa asks their predecessors.

"No," Mahiru answers. "We won't force any of you to come."

Izuru makes eye contact with Kotoko. She will have difficulty surviving on her own, and he has thus far had a perfect record of keeping his successors safe and close. He doesn't like leaving her. But if she dislikes being controlled this much, he supposes he can just watch out for her from a distance. He turns away.

And he only walks a few paces before he hears another set of footsteps join the children following him; Kotoko has decided to come after all. She just needed to know she wouldn't be forced to.

Despite the many rooms in Byakuya's mansion, the children share a room. Nagisa follows Izuru around, waiting for orders. Monaca, Masaru, and eventually Kotoko follow Nagito and join in his chaos. And Jataro sometimes secludes himself, sometimes tags along with the other children, and sometimes sticks to Makoto. He's a good listener.

Often, Jataro will just sit down with one of Byakuya's books, systematically tearing every page out of the binding. Nagisa takes to going behind him and mending them, since Izuru doesn't give him any orders except "Go play with your friends," and Mahiru just tells him, "Try to self-actualize." (And if he asks Byakuya, he'll tell him to fix the books.)

Nagito gladly becomes the one who gets the kids clothes, especially since they're constantly growing out of them. They aren't as willing as Makoto is to wear whatever he picks out, which adds an element of challenge, tailoring his choices to their tastes.

Izuru can tell from across the room if someone hasn't brushed their teeth.

"If I get a cavity, I'm qualified to give myself a filling," Masaru says.

"Brush. Now. Or no dessert tomorrow."

"Do you want me to brush his teeth?" Nagisa asks.

"No."

Kotoko finds a stray cat and keeps it in the room she shares with the other kids. She manages to keep it under wraps for about forty-eight hours (down to keeping herself and her friends completely clean of cat hair) before Izuru asks, "Is there an animal in this house?"

Makoto says, "Let her keep him. He's nice," casually revealing to everyone that he knew the whole time.

honestly as someone who's entered the void, i definitely think that the void is all that. OF COURSE it's ONLY all that bc of ourselves & i firmly believe we're the creator of our realities.

but as someone who's had a miserable life, i didn't even know where to start when i learned abt the void i made a list of everything that i wanted to change and I've persisted like crazy but it just seemed impossible. the void helped me with my self concept / my dream life and im so glad it did. and honestly WHO can be patient, who can actually do as easy as said and look inside ur 4d how life is actually like when yre confronted abt ur horrible life. ofc we care abt the shit and I'm not even mad many including me are like that. I'm not saying it's good to constantly cry over the 3d when it's all abt ur imagination but imagine how tired you'll start being after seeing ur fucking nightmare every time u wake up and you're just there like "okay but in my 4d I'm happy in a mansion eho cares if I'm being beaten up in my 3d fr 😹"

I'm just saying u guys need to stop using the word "victim mentality" & get upset when someone is reacting over their very reasonable 3d.

i don’t want to invalidate anyone’s feelings. it’s okay to react to the 3D, it’s okay to feel bad bc of what is happening outside. all those feelings are valid. but learning how to handle them is such an important skill. and that comes through truly acknowledging that you’re the creator and frankly you’re not doing that if you constantly rely on the 3D for validation.

for me, at least, manifesting isn’t about curing your sadness with getting things to appear in the 3D. it’s about acknowledging yourself as the creator and through that knowing you inwardly move towards eudaimonic happiness. your happiness shouldn’t be solely reliant on the 3D, if that’s the case, you’re still chained. to be free means to find happiness within, no matter the outer circumstances.

and that’s what being fixated at getting in the void does. it’s attractive because you could wake up with everything you want materialised. why does it have to be materialised for you to feel happiness? something being materialised doesn’t mean it’s now more real. it’s already real in your imagination. if you’re able to feel happiness just from imagining, if you’re able to accept it as yours, then it will inevitably show up in the physical anyway. but that doesn’t even matter bc you can feel all the bliss you want inside before it materialises. when you want something, you want it bc you want to feel the emotion attached to getting it. what’s stopping you from feeling it right now? a lot of people here don’t realise that in order to be free you must focus on the feeling not the “getting” , bc the feeling is the thing that you’re actually wanting, not the thing itself.

Rambling here about Death Parade because I don't think I should spam this one channel in a discord server Abt it

Death Parade spoiler warning

The fact that Decim cannot catch when people are lying about their feelings makes me insane. In the first episode we see he wasn't able to tell the fact that one of his customers were lying, but once Chiyuki had explained it he realized he did a bad judgement, causing someone innocent to fall into the void. The problem is also that she technically didn't lie about what she said, but she lied about all the emotions she'd shown him. And then fast forward to having to judge some murderers, he made sure that lying about their emotions will never happen again by making said customer act out their statement, it's not lying if you do it right?

When Chiyuki first fell into Quindecim she still retained her memory of death. Decim legit had no clue what to do with her, asking his superior how to deal with a situation like hers. Nona proceeds to offer to judge her herself, solving the problem swiftly and taking her off from Decim's (inexperienced) hands. Yet, Decim still wanted to judge her, maybe he saw how she lived a fulfilling life, only to have ended abruptly by herself. He wanted to know why humans did that, why not continue on? Nona considers this interesting, maybe it'll end up not what anyone expected, so she allows this. Decim ends up learning so much about the human experience, despite him literally having human emotions injected into him, he barely knows how to act like one. He's never lived, he doesn't know what it's like to having someone to cherish or to be cherished. Then right before she started disintegrating, he decided to expedite her judgement. Making her play a game, making her remember what happened. Yet, she is still the same old self, she doesn't feel threatened because she already knows what will happen. As a last ditch effort to see her "true" side, Decim puts her in a false reality, where she can see her mother mourning for her. Decim offers her a way out, to end it all and to return to her beautiful life, kill 1 of 7 billion people in the world, to bring her back. Chiyuki thinks about it, before realizing that just like her, anyone she killed would have someone that misses them, exactly like how her mom misses her. She gives up, she stops, but she still wants to go back, she still wants to tell her mom she misses her too. In a last ditch effort to remove her guilt of killing someone, she gives Decim the device, asking him to press it for her, to rip the band-aid off. At that point, Decim realizes that Chiyuki despite being so desperate, wanting so badly to return to the human realm, yet will not allow him to judge her properly, she doesn't want to kill someone, but she still wants to do it to save herself. There is action in her words (making Decim do it for her), there is desperation, yet, she doesn't do it herself. He breaks down knowing that this form of judgement can and will never be fair, breaking the illusion and revealing he just thought he needed to know her better to judge her better, but it never did. The best part about it was how Decim created the Chavvot puppets by hand, those weren't fabricated, those were real dolls he made by hand.

Maybe I watch too many theory videos, but they put a whole lot of emphasis on the Chavvot story. How people can express their feelings despite not using words (or using those words to hide their true feelings) I don't know how to parallels to how the arbiter system does things, but I just think it's too big part of the story to leave it at "Chiyuki childhood fav story" (it doesn't even have skating!! It's just some kids playing!!!)

Also the emphasis on the eyes in this series is insane, I feel like there's definitely something up with them, the way Clavis' eyes aren't visible, the way we always have to see Decim's eye up close to see when he receives memories. I don't know what they're doing with that, but 👍

Less serious and I don't really mind what people ship but Decim and Chiyuki are so best friends to me. Chiyuki would NEVER be into that weird ass guy, look at me in the eyes and tell me that Chiyuki could love a guy as dumb as Decim. You cannot (because I will not listen anyways)

Some rambling about itsfunneh's YHS and Kyran's and Alec's friendship

Just finished watching the 1st season of YHS!

It's.... KIND OF A MESS? Once again the plot is everywhere and they're not very good at pacing.

Slightly unrelated to the plot; what bothered me the most was the outdated gender roles being pushed on every time.

--"You punch like a girl." (not the extra misogynistic flavour in this quote) "I'm going to roast marshmallows.. LIKE A MAN!"

There's also another episode where they're looking to buy a present for senpai and Kyran said that Gold shouldn't buy perfume for the former because HE'S NOT HER BOYFRIEND?? ANYWAYS This was 7 years ago and I'm not saying you should harass or cancel the krew for this or whatever (it's extremely pointless and it won't go anywhere). I'm just criticising it because this type of generalisation leads to stereotypes. AND THEN these stereotypes both dictate the way you behave because you're scared that people will put you down and brush you off.

ANYWAYS, I didn't mean to make a long ass paragraph about this but here we are.

Pushing aside the ordeal abt the writing pushing these gender roles, there's a paradox about that and the relationship between Kyran and Alec. It's kind of funny because there are some elements in their dynamic that could become a good conflict between them and it could also say a lot of things about how society works and how words have a lot of power.

- Kyran is your shy reserved weeaboo who's often played as the comedic relief because of his tendencies to just suck at physical activities (me asf)

- Alec is the shady hardworking stereotypical bad boy. He's a murderer's henchman solely because he needs money to support his family.

There is a lot of potential to talk about what boys (and equally girls) have to endure in society and how it can be dealt with.

HEADCANON STUFF HERR!! But if you tweak some stuff, Kyran has the archetype of the guy labelled as "too feminine" because he's not athletic and actually voices out his emotions. But evidently he doesn't want to be seen as feminine because it has negative connotations; when he says "I'm going to roast marshmallows.. LIKE A MAN!" it LITERALLY sounds like he has a fragile masculinity because... society. And I'm not blaming it at all haha... I feel like we've all experienced a slice of this.

Conversely, there's Alec who actually fits into the masc category; he's effortlessly athletic and doesn't feel... much I guess. He doesn't really voice out his emotions like AT ALL but he is put down often because he's kind of seen as a delinquent by most people.

So there's this whole thing between the fear of being called feminine as a masculine individual and being feared by most people simply because of the way you dress/act.

I think that's already a really strong foundation for what will ensue next.

So in season 2 we get to know how they first met in kindergarten.

Kyran was getting bullied by some random dude. But Alec just beats the crap out of that person (which he refers alec as the "MEAN BOY", once again supporting my stuff with Alec being seen as a bad person. But thats just my interpretation of it, like there are so many and tbh u would call anyone mean for punching you if you rhink youre right ig). To me it just kind of makes their friendship a little more complex!

1. it shows that Alec genuinely doesn't give a fuck about who Kyran is as a person because regardless of who he is, that kid was doing something wrong. Alec is a decent person for standing up for someone who couldn't do anything against what was happening at the moment. I know they were like 5 but it shows that in nature Alec instinctively does things for what he believes is right (and it's not the only example of Alec doing something nice).

2. To me it says a lot about how children just don't care about who they're playing with based on physical attributes or whatever UNTIL society makes them learn that it DOES matter.

And these facts are so bittersweet to me because in the camping episode of season 1, they just voice out each other's insecurities. It's not even funny anymore LMAO.

"you're a delinquent!" + Alec poking "fun" at Kyran for being childish/not-a-man-TM, but you could interpret him as just asking these questions out of curiosity. He's actually less confrontational than Kyran in the episode.

Despite knowing that they used to look out for each other and accepted each others' QUOTE AND QUOTE """""" flaws""", whatever outbreak happened between these two must have caused a huge impact on each other's perception of each other. An impact that made them internally say "people must've been right. Alec IS a bad person after all. Kyran IS too emotional."

There's another layer of salt to the wounds because deep down Alec probably also agrees with Kyran for being a delinquent because he's Yandere's henchman.

Some suggestions that could've made this story a bit more engaging and interesting, at least for me:

- making alec hate horror + gore would make more sense to me because his side job is to literally cover up someone's death and all of that.

- we get 0 reasons as to why Alec likes Funneh. I feel like they could've played on the fact that Alec didn't make any friends after Kyran and has always been viewed as the bad guy. But then Funneh just doesn't care about that prejudice and hangs out with him anyway?

- the 2 plots (funneh's life + yandere's killing spree) should've been a bit more intertwined. Murder cases in high school aren't peanuts. I feel like it could've been fun seeing Kyran dragging Gold and Funneh into this whole detective thing meanwhile Alec is reluctantly coming with them and having some inner conflicts. Actually, they should've fleshed out their reasons as to why they're doing this whole detective thing in the first place. There needs to be a huge drawing force as to why, yk? Maybe drawing some inspiration to Heathers and Be More Chill could've been fun too!

- Despite them being in America, I feel like we should've seen more people of colour? Like african descent americans. Their thing literally takes place in THE USA yet most of them are like... white or asian or mixed

So Ryoko Kui (the author of the manga) is a super super great artist and writer in general, and her knowledge of intimate and expansive worldbuilding, including the cultures of different fantasy races is VERY apparent in dunmesh without being super in your face. It strikes a perfect balance between showing and implying and telling; giving you information when you need it but not holding your hand throughout the process. Ecology and biology of creatures and the places (mostly dungeons but yk) is SUPER important and expanded upon in the story. It scratches my Creature autism SOOO well. And all of the characters are VERY distinct and fun AND THE DESIGNS FUCK SOOO HARD. Dungeon Meshi has become one of my favorite series of all time, because it's so. so fucking profound. There are a LOT of funny moments and gags but there's an equal amount of genuinely serious and emotional moments. The character dynamics. GOD. Cannot recommend it enough.

Also. Dungeon Meshi is super fucking horny. LMAO. Not in a "fanservice-y" way (in fact, there is only ONE character that ever gets upskirt/panty shots and it is Senshi, the bearded dwarf man. He's my fave btw <3). But dunmeshi uses consumption (and to a lesser/technical extent cannibalism as well) as a... metaphor for love and obsession, and frequently eroticizes it. I hesitate to say metaphor because it's honestly VERY obvious lmao. Especially with how genuinely autistic Laios is about monsters and eating them. Then there's also transformation and change that's also VERY eroticized. A lot of the focus of Dungeon Meshi is desire. How people experience it, and just how far people will go for it. Which, again, is super eroticized a LOT. All done in a tasteful(? not sure if this is the right word but yk) way and not in a surface level "LOOK, SEX!!!!!!!!!" way. Not that there's anything inherently WRONG with being horny and not being like profound about it but I'm just trying to make a point lol

Now to specifically talk about the anime since that's what you mentioned wanting to watch (though I REALLY reccommend the manga, it is fucking GORGEOUS and there are so many hilarious panels that haven't been brought over to the anime, despite how well it's been doing with that so far. It just happens with turning a manga into an anime yk?)! It's doing a really good job so far!! The only issues I have are relatively nitpicky (I've gone into detail abt it if you wanna see here) and more of an issue with modern anime overall so! They're doing a really great job of translating over from the page to the screen and the voice acting work (both the original japanese and english dub) is really fucking good. And I don't typically like modern english dubs. The layout of the episodes is really nice so far too, centering around the "dish/es of the day" without feeling too constrictively like your typical "monster of the week" type episodes. It helps that Dungeon Meshi as a media itself strikes a really good balance between that and its storytelling. Though again. Laios is genuinely SO fucking autistic about monsters and eating them lmao and the series focuses on him/his party so! There's so much good in depth discussion about monsters, both their biology (especially in relation to their taste hehe) as well as their natures, and ecology!

I'm also really a fan of netflix releasing the episodes weekly instead of dropping them all at once. It's refreshing coming from netflix specifically considering their... track record.

But anyway yeah! TYSM Marty for coming to me about this and letting me go on an autistic talk about it!! I only apologize for not being more specific, but a lot of my dunmesh posting (reblogs anyway since I'm pretty sure the posts I've MADE about it have been relatively vague??) is already pretty spoilery and I'm a firm believer in a first watch/read being as spoiler free as possible!! It makes subsequent rewatches/rereads all the more fun to me personally <3 Though that's obviously up to you lol

before he could call you his, before he even confessed, you knew how he felt.

you could feel his gaze, the emotions he attempted to communicate with just a look. most of the time, you pretended they didn’t exist, convincing yourself that they were just a figment of an overactive, hopeless romantic, imagination. but sometimes, just every so often, you would look at him, and he would look at you, and there would be something there. you weren’t a poet, your mind could barely conjure up a coherent sentence most of the time, but you knew that the way he looked at you was something so many people wrote about, painted about, yearned for.

confessions are made over gas station slushees and sitting on the sidewalk. everyone else had already gone home, lucas and max riding together, and will and el riding with jonathan. your car was in the shop, so mike offered to give you a ride instead. you two did live close to each other.

you were getting ready to leave the diner, when mike half heartedly commented that he wanted a slushee. so that led you here, cherry and blue raspberry slushees in hand, mouths cold and tinted with food coloring. you’d stopped speaking for a while now, just sitting and watching the stillness of the night.

then he called your name, and you hummed, glancing over at him when he didn’t continue. “what’s going on, mikey?” you’d asked him. the nickname had become common for you to say recently, usually spoken when it was just you two as you feared the others would make fun of you or him.

he was looking head on, but after a deep breath he turned to face you.

“if i tell you something, promise you won’t hate me.” so you did, telling him that you could never hate him.

and when he spoke his mind, words almost whispered under shrouds of fear, anxiety and insecurities, you knew that you could never hate mike. never in a million years.

there’s concerns and suggestions shared between you on if you should tell the others. you both agree to ease them into the concept, but then mike kisses you when he’s saying goodbye and the secret is out.

he can’t really help it, not that he particularly tried. mike just can’t keep his hands off of you.

everyone surrounding you assumed that the “honeymoon phase” would die off within a few weeks, but it went on for months, and never really ended. kisses when you thought no one was looking, holding hands under tables and behind backs, knowing glances that yielded giggles. what was annoying to others, was endearing to the both of you.

you’d never felt loved, appreciated, and cared for like you do with mike. if you’re so much as saying a few less words than usual, mike is rubbing his thumb along the back of your hand and kissing your temples. he’s always there to listen to your rant about any and everything, immediately taking your side even if you’re most definitely in the wrong. he watches all your chick flicks, and nightmare inducing horror movies, with you.

and the entire time, you’re waiting for the other pen to drop. waiting for the inevitable to occur. you’ve braced yourself, mentally lowered your expectations, and waited. and when it does come, it’s minuscule, and nagging at the back of your brain.

mike couldn’t say The Big Three.

you’ve said it, slipped up a few times before you intended to say it. and despite what you tell yourself, you wished he would say it too. who doesn’t?

but either way, you knew that mike loved you, because his entire being showed it.

Gender and pref: I’m a he/she and choose how I present myself based on the setting bc I’m not that open with ppl (yeah, I think it’s important to express yourself but realistically that won’t get me far in certain settings in my country); no gender pref but I’m not too fond of some writing choices when it comes to women in Viv’s works, depends on a character though

Style: kinda rockstar gf vibe? Sometimes softer colours too

Personality, hobbies: I’m social and extroverted. Usually that leaves me as a leader of whatever group I’m in. I have a little bit of a hater in me, but I don’t show it if ppl don’t encourage it. I do like when it’s being enabled though. It’s not convenient when you’re in a position where ppl ask you for opinions and actually follow your guide, yk, if I manage an event I’m not going to go around shit talking everything. It feels nice to have someone who does that though, makes it easier to join in and not feel like a jerk (or at least be jerks together I guess??). I write my own songs and am in a band as a backup vocal. Kinda proud that it’s my band but I need to get better until I step up as anything more. I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I like to tease ppl if given the opportunity. Others say I’m flirty. Bold with it at that. I’m ambitious too. Kind of a big thing but I have npd (if you want to look it up without reading scientific papers, go on tumblr, bc the rest of the internet is filled with ‘demonic narcissism’ bullshit) and it influences the way I am. I care lots about my image and don’t have a ton of empathy. I don’t go kicking puppies, but it’s noticeable how I lack in this department. Sometimes people say I’m ’too nice to have it’ cause i do well with kids and do all the youth group volunteering. Also, I do some martial arts and other sports. Kinda sceptical of romance at this point cause I had lots of it and I don’t mix well with a lot of people, but maybe I could do something serious for once if I had the right person. I try to be responsible and respectful but I have no issue finding my place at a wild party or something. I'm pretty chill in general, but I can be soft-er if I want, like with children or if the few ppl I actually am close with (I've got many friend groups but I struggle to make meaningful connections) need me. Usually I just stay my highly analytical, laid back self and say my silly little comments every once in a while. Heard I’m pretty funny if I want to be. My love language is acts of service. I like small things and I do them a lot. I can do words too, but I don't care for them in return. Like, you can be an asshole (up to a limit, I know my worth) and it’s cool with me if I see you have your ways of caring like putting on a song I like in the car

Likes and dislikes: love movies like Fight Club (my fav), American Psycho and Donnie Darko; hate sharks, they freak me out; my fav book is The Catcher in the Rye; hate it when people push me to open up and be emotional; love music and unironically had a few guys play songs AT me and I actually like that too, tho I get why ppl clown on that

My type: I like people who are more negative than me and aren't afraid to shittalk everything. Just saying whatever, not caring if they offend ppl (up to a point, some issues aren’t debatable ik). Don't really care for morality (to a certain point, again) if you're charismatic and fun to be around, I’m along for the ride and happy to support whatever you get yourself into. I think I would get along with someone who had a little npd too, I like to be able to relate to my partner a bit. If they work somewhat similarly, I don't have to struggle with understanding some stuff, bc I already know how to manage an ego or grandiose behavior. As for looks. Idk, I don’t have a set type. I think maybe ppl that are bigger than me? I’m pretty athletic so it’s not hard, but I guess that’s been a pattern? Also, I do enough of leading as is so in relationships I don’t mind watching from the side and supporting whatever my partner is doing

Red Flag Reblog Game (?) but also a rant lol.

in honour of 'cutting off' a friend I didn't like (not really cutting off but more like. being honest about how I feel and both of us mutually deciding to not be as close as before as a result),

let me make a list of my red flags.

Because this is the second time I've cut off a friend like this 😭

Okay here we go...

🚩 Gets drained easily. High need of alone time.

🚩 Seen zones and late replies. Does not like people who can't understand my seen zones and late replies even after I've explained to them this habit before hand.

🚩 Deletes messages. I delete messages and then send a new message when I feel like the OG message could have been better phrased. I delete messages randomly sometimes for other reasons too.

🚩 Does not like clingy people who need to talk to me or be with me 24/7. This friend I 'cut off' (ughh cut off isn't rlly the right word. maybe, 'demoted friendship'? IDK 😭. Yeah lets just call it DS).

This friend I DSed once followed me w the intentions of dropping me to my driver. I told her, "I feel like being alone right now."

She said "No." and continued following me so I ended up talking to her. It was a good convo but I didn't like that she didn't take me seriously.

Next day, she tried to follow me again but I said "No I'm serious" sternly and started walking fast away from her

🚩 Acts light hearted during confrontations. When I confront someone abt something they did that bothers me, I say it in a light tone as to not 'hurt' them too much. This leads to them sometimes not taking me seriously.

🚩 Good at pretending that everything's fine. In 2 of my friendships, I have ignored their grieviances against me until the point it piled up, I had harbored too much hidden dislike against them and the next time I confronted them abt it, it was when I was already cutting them off.

Both friendships were shocked and did not expect that I had harbored things against them

🚩 Sensitive. (not really a red flag but you know, the thing w my friend I just DSed - - she said she just had satirical humour. She told me (not actual words) , 'I told you many times not to take my words at face value. If you haven't learned that, then clearly you aren't learning.'

In truth, I did not find her 'humour' funny and I found the things she said to me while we were still friends extremely discouraging 😭

🚩 Does not say everything that's on my mind at times.

🚩 Not pushy. In some situations - you NEED to be pushy. I am bad at being pushy but every day is progress ig

🚩 Might be socially awkward <<sometimes>>

🚩 can be rough w friends sometimes. <<sometimes>> (never with ill intentions though!! I don't do it to hurt them, it's just my hands are kind of heavy ig 😭)

🚩 Not confident in self.

🚩 Does not talk much about myself.

🚩 procrastinator

🚩 Dense. Dense. Dense. Dense. Do not give me 'hints' about how you feel. I might not interpret them properly.

🚩 People get attached to me because I listen to them. In fact, I LIKE listening to them. If they're my friend, I comfort them and am there for them.

It's when they start hurting me that I start hating them.

As mentioned above, I have a tendency to tolerate A LOT before deciding I don't like them as my friend.

Since I tolerate a lot, and act normal,

They usually get caught off guard when I tell them my feelings.

By the time I explain that I dislike them and/or want to 'take a break' or 'cut them off' they get shocked and sad

because they've been sharing intimate things to me and now they're about to lose me.

A lot of times I'm the 'listener' friend or 'the therapist' friend.

If I had to put it in words, sometimes I'm a machine that absorbs the rants and troubles of other people and gives them comfort. I use the word 'machine' because to SOME people (some not all) - I feel like a tool that they use when they need to express their emotions. Just a tool. Nothing more. They don't treat me well.

When I dislike the person, that machine runs out of battery and suddenly dies. But while it's still alive, this machine may not give a sign that it's running out of battery.

So the person continues hurting it and using it. And it suddenly dies on the person.

So the person is left feeling sad, confused, angry, and maybe regretful..but they probably understand. because the machine gives them an explanation.

If they don't understand, not my problem 😭

Yeah I think that's all my red flags. IDK.

Another thing

thinkin abt. noah…. (it’s a lot of words under the cut but i put a lot of effort into this if you wanna read it 🥺👉👈)

Recently, I’ve been feeling like I treat Noah too harshly. That I make him significantly more of a flawed character than Isaac. And to a certain extent, I do think that’s true. But then I realized something.

Isaac’s already had “character development” in his life that Noah hasn’t experienced yet, at least with modern them.

Modern Isaac grew up… relatively stable. Their abusive step-dad wasn’t around anymore, they had two loving parents who tried incredibly hard to be loving and compassionate and empathetic people, he has a bunch of Very neurodivergent older siblings, all of their siblings, including his younger one, are queer, etc. He’s learned a lot simply from his upbringing. They’ve met a lot of people with many mental illnesses and disorders and he’s met people of all shapes and colors and sizes and. He’s a bit naive but he’s ultimately learned a lot and met many people and his world has been massively expanded to love and accept people.

Noah, on the other hand, didn’t have the same experience. He grew up poor, like Isaac did— maybe even more than them because he didn’t have older siblings to help with finances. He was a bit above average in school but not a genius which led to him becoming “a bit” competitive to help cope when he felt like he wasn’t good or smart enough compared to others. He took care of his sick and dying father as a teenager and became the “man of the house” relatively young— around 18 to mid 20’s.

His father became angry and bitter and depressed as he was dying and it was hard to deal with both his anger and his physical and mental deterioration. And after he passed, he felt like he had to step up and bury his emotions deep, deep down in order to take care of his family. He only had his mother left as immediate family, with no siblings, but has many, many tíos and tías and primos who are all incredibly close.

With his feelings of inadequacy and his pain being hidden in order to take care of others, he developed a pretty big ego to protect himself. He’s incredibly “confident”— or at least appears so— and hates having his confidence challenged.

He’s a nurse. Maybe still a nursing student by the time we see him “in canon” but still. He works very long hours to do what he does, 8-12 hour shifts multiple times a week, and he sees people sick and dying almost every day.

He didn’t grow up learning socialization with siblings. He didn’t grow up consistently having ends meet. He didn’t grow up knowing many people who weren’t like him. He didn’t grow up with a family who was all too accepting of mental illnesses and disorders and was left to cope with his undiagnosed OCD alone out of shame.

He hasn’t learned everything that Isaac’s learned yet, and that’s okay. He’s still growing as a person, each day trying to be better than he was the day before, even if he doesn’t understand what he’s doing “wrong” all the time, or even that he IS doing anything wrong. He’s trying and he’s growing and he’s learning. He’s in the middle of his character development, in the middle of healing, and overall, he’s doing a pretty good job, I think. (:
