taking some extra anatomy classes this year, here are some of my notes in case they could help someone. should be updated every weekend (aside from october 28th and november 4th which are free days) with the following lesson's notes. (further explanations at the end)
anyway. here goes:
SCENE 0-1: LEARNING HOW TO LOOK/OBSERVE
when drawing, we each more or less have our own methods when approaching certain subjects, with multiple tools at our disposal in order to achieve the desired results.
but generally, when drawing a model (or most things from life, actually) we can in some sort of way define a general order as to when to draw what:
Looking / Observing
Blocking In
Correcting
Details
for today i’ll focus on the first one of the list, looking / observing.
the existing nuance between “seeing” and “looking” exists in the sense that “seeing” is more passive than “looking”. when you say “i can see a cat”, you aren’t paying too much attention to the cat. but when you say “i am looking at a cat’, you are actively paying attention to the cat and what they’re doing.
(given the class is in French, the nuance was similar, using the words “voir” and “regarder”. but due to French not having a close equivalent to “watch” i cannot make more parallels about this, as my knowledge of English and French-to-English translation is still fairly limited)
when looking at a subject, the primary objective should be to understand what you’re looking at. you can look at a subject (or the world as a whole) under multiple filters: values, hues, proportions, in 2D or 3D, and so on. you need to define how you want to look at a subject following these filters of vision. what do you want to look at first? what do you want the viewer to look at first? this is important to define before you put your tool to your support.
generally when drawing from life, it’s a bit reckless to rush to draw the model without actually observing them a minimum. you should take the time to observe, you are allowed to take your time to observe. no amount of limited time should paralyze you from examining the model the best you can before you put your tool to use.
getting this more precise vision of your model can give you a better vision of their body, which is often hidden under detail. when drawing them, you should ask yourself “how is the model posing?”
why look/observe? (probably like the most given piece of advice by pros and art youtubers who aren’t pros but still get called pros cause they have 1 million subscribers on youtube)
this question is very easily asked but also very easily answered:
to know how and what you’re going to draw
to time yourself correctly and have a good time management (drawing a pose in 2 minutes is completely different to drawing a 10 minutes one), thus,
to avoid rushing to draw the subject. as said previously, take your time. start slow, but stay accurate to the model. (teacher compared it to a musician rehearsing a piece, first slowly, then speeding it up progressively as he gets to know the piece itself better and better. unfortunately as someone who is as farthest from a musician as can be, i cannot honestly attest to if this is accurate).
but really, there is actually no such thing as a “finished” drawing. a graphite drawing could always have color added afterwards, a painting could always get more and more detailed. a piece is “finished” only when you deem it is finished. the French Académie des Beaux Arts didn’t like the Impressionists because to them, what the impressionists were doing were half assed jobs, since the idea of “transmitting a vague feeling, or an emotion through a specific style of very visible strokes” was absolute fuckery to them. speaking of,
to transmit an emotion, or a feeling through the posing of the model. the more technical and controlled the strokes will be, the finer the wanted sensation will be felt by the viewer. this also ties in the physical aspect of the model. ideally, in order to achieve this, you can try posing the same way the model does. it may be a bit awkward but it works (depending on your learning type, of course.)
to understand how the whole “body system” works. “i know the rules of the human body, therefore i make little to no mistakes.”
adding a whole context to the pose helps: adding a situation in which the pose could work in gives some meaning to your drawing, as well as helping you remember it better. it also adds a narrative element to your drawing(s), which are absolutely always a plus. (memorization is also an important tool!)
now let me play devil’s advocate and ask: why not look/observe?
well, uh, there are two reasons my teach told us:
to let your instinct and imagination go wild and free, trust your gut and have fun!!
and, tying back,
to let yourself be surprised by what you’ve done.
form synthesis (or just different types of approaches to draw form)
when drawing a model, there’s a few things that can be mentioned:
multiple types of lines exist with different purposes within the drawing: the action line(s), structural lines, and contour lines.
action lines define the overall movement of the pose. the principal one is the one you see when giving a better look at how dynamic the pose is. the secondary ones are the ones you can find in secondary rhythms when examining the pose a little longer.
Tumblr media
(here's a better example, actually:)
Tumblr media
structural lines are pretty much the “stickman skeleton” you sometimes see in certain how to draw books (specifically the more advanced manga themed ones).
Tumblr media
contour lines surround the form in a way as to draw all of the outer body without using inside shapes or lines. (it is also the basis for the Bargue method which will be slightly discussed below. there unfortunately won’t be any talk about cross-contour lines, as it hasn’t been talked about in class (yet?))
Tumblr media
generally, lines take either an I shape, a C shape or an S shape. (teach said it’s preferable to mostly use I and C type lines when drawing live models. probably due to the fact that S shapes are much trickier to use “effectively” within a piece (effectively not meaning much in this context, if nothing at all. again, have fun.)). using these lines tell a lot about the model and the pose, telling a sort of dynamic storytelling which varies depending on what type of line you choose to represent your model.
Tumblr media
we can mostly talk about 2D shapes when three or more points have been linked by lines. sometimes, lines can skip articulations for the sake of dynamism. shapes should be thought about in their entirety, the difficulty that can be encountered usually being remaining vague but accurate with your form.
now, a quick word about:
the Bargue method (or, the fuck do you mean the Americans used it in art schools before us, Bargue was literally born in Paris, i fucking hate the Académie des Beaux-Arts)
the Bargue method is probably fairly well known among certain art schools or artistic communities. if i do recall correctly; it originated with Bargue noticing the low level of the students of the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Paris (or some other place basing itself solely on academic style art and paintings located in the city of Paris in the country of France on the continent of Europe) and devising a simple way to learn how to draw accurately from life (or plaster casts, depending on what you prefer). it solely based itself on straight, contour lines, forming a base around which to slowly add details to. apparently, a lot of art schools in america base their teaching of life drawing on this method, but given i do not feel like getting over $200k in debt without even mentioning living and travel costs, i cannot say if that is actually true.
here's an example of it:
Tumblr media
it’s pretty much basing yourself on simplifications of the form to attain absolute accuracy. no curves here to distract you, only straights. somehow, when pulled off correctly, it gives a very neat impression of realism.
anyway, that’s all i wrote down. hope teach won’t see this anytime soon, and hope this kinda helped a little bit. next week’s notes should be about blocking in shapes, so we’re starting to be a little more concrete with the actual drawing process.
these classes were taught by Mr Francis Buchet at a class given at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, so most of the things i’m saying here are taken from him and his class. if you live in/close to Paris and are interested in learning artistic anatomy, i suggest you look up where he is giving public classes, since they’re infinitely more engaging than these notes. his instagram is be linked below. (hoping he doesn’t get mad at me for sharing these notes… in any case i will use my own example sheets to avoid getting in any more trouble.)
and, may i remind you: these notes are only here to showcase one approach among many others, so they don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. i myself am in absolutely no way a professional, so please, take all of this with a grain of salt (or a spoonful, even). draw how you enjoy drawing, and find happiness in the way you want to draw.
Francis Buchet's instagram: x
so, seeyou next weekend! (or earlier, if i draw something i want to show here.)

Tips For Living With ADHD
Reminders are your best friend. Get a reminder app. Use it obsessively.
Put things in line of sight. For example, leave your toothbrush out on the counter if you can. See the toothbrush, remember to brush teeth.
Sometimes you will just NOT be able to focus, despite your best efforts. Don't beat yourself up over it
Reminders are your best friend
Get some people who can hold you accountable and bully you into doing things. let them know what you're going to be working on and report back when you've finished
If you need to do something in two hours (or any amount of time), set a timer
Basically you will forget to do anything and everything so the goal is to make it as easy to remember as you can
Sometimes if your brain can't focus, go find something that you can focus on. That can trick it into focus mode. Just make sure to not get too distracted and use up all your brain power particles.
To stay better hydrated, take a water bottle with you everywhere. I mean everywhere. Have it in line of sight at all times so you'll remember it when you need liquid
You might need more stimulation in order to focus. For me, listening to music (especially with lyrics) really helps. That might not work for anyone, but if you find something that works for you, use it. Use it all the time.
Have a body double. Get someone to sit with you with you work. You don't need to talk or interact, just have them there. They can be doing whatever they want. It really works.
You're going to forget if you took your medication or not. Have a paper or something that you can mark off on immediately after you take it. Leave your medication somewhere where you can see it so you won't forget it exists.
Reward yourself when you meet your goals! Celebrate little victories! Make working as fun for yourself as you can
You got this!

an explanation on how skill mutation functions in shin megami tensei nocturne
doing the no fusion run has lead me to discover some quirks involving the skill mutation system given how often i have to rely on it. nocturne doesn’t explain it well, and what little information is out there is both helpful and lacking. it’s surprisingly complex so i hope this is helpful both for newcomers and veterans!
what is skill mutation?
each time a demon levels up, there is technically a 25% chance one of two things can happen: a skill can be powered up or mutate into another skill. however, not all skills can be powered up or mutated. a skill that can be powered up can only have that happen once, while mutated skills can still be changed into another mutated skill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
right here are my two examples. both very wonderful noodles. one has only had one skill mutation and hasn’t learned every skill, the other has had both skill evolutions and has been apart of the party for a long time. the most recent mutations i got were bufula to endure and venom bite to bright might. venom bite was actually powered up from feral bite!
basically, any demon regardless of level or unlearned skills can have this happen, and a powered up skill does have the chance to mutate.
you may notice the order of which the skills are on the list. what the game also doesn’t tell you nor that i could find anywhere is that it prioritizes the first mutatable skill over all others. it’s ultimately a dice roll, checking if the first skill can be mutated and if that chance will occur. if it doesn’t, it checks the next skill and runs the same check. however, this chance decreases the more skills you have as it has to run that check more times.
assuming you have a full skill list (so 8 skills), the chance for the check to run and decide to mutate is 25%. even then, the skill you may get is randomized. this means your actual odds of a mutation are closer to 3.125% per level up. this is also assuming it chooses the skill you want to change.
there’s a good chance my math could be wrong (since i’m not very good) so feel free to correct me if i’m wrong and i’ll update this post, but this is from my understanding of how it functions.
what can and can’t mutate
now in terms of what skills can be mutated… i actually unfortunately got some of that wrong when posting updates about the no fusion run. the table available i did find via the fandom wiki actually doubles as an inheritance table, and though the mutatable inheritance skills are highlighted, this does not show up on mobile because fandom is a stinky poopoo site.
skills in one rank will always mutate into the next rank and cannot skip those ranks or devolve. however, just because it’s in another rank doesn’t mean that skill is capable of further mutating. a skill can mutate into any that can be inherited.
the table for all inheritance/mutation results can be found here, but again be warned that the site on mobile doesn’t show what skills are still available for further mutation.
this isn’t in any way to discredit those who have worked on and continue to update the fandom wiki. this is actually an issue of the site itself and how it functions on mobile. so for mobile users who don’t want to pull out their computers every time they want to check what skills can be further mutated, here’s the complete list!
note that all skills in each category are ordered by type/element. to get the exact number rank, check the table linked above.
*=appears in multiple ranks, but can only be mutated once (at a lower rank). if a skill mutates into a higher rank’s version of that skill, it can’t be mutated a second time.
physical: feral bite, venom bite, charm bite, stun bite*, feral claw, venom claw, needle rush, toxic sting, stun needle*
magic: agi, agilao, agidyne, bufu, bufula, bufudyne, zio, zionga, ziodyne, zan, zanma, zandyne, megido, megidola, makajam
healing: dia, diarama, diarahan, patra, recarm
element resists: anti-curse, anti-nerve, anti-mind, anti-fire, void fire, anti-ice, void ice, anti-elec, void elec, anti-force, void force, void phys
misc. passive skills: life bonus, life gain, mana bonus, mana gain, counter, retaliate, bright might, dark might
it goes without saying that some of the skills can upgrade, such as void fire becoming fire drain. however, that doesn’t mean it’s free from mutation. void fire can still decide to become a completely different skill.
because of how inheritance works, skills cannot mutate past any in level 10, meaning you’ll be missing out on phys repel and victory cry, plus megidolaon if you don’t have megidola.
why mutate skills?
if you’re like me and doing a no fusion challenge run, it’s perfect for getting skills demons normally can’t learn without fusion. if you’re not, this is still a wonderful way to get skills earlier and consequently make earlier fights more easy since they aren’t balanced around you having those skills. it’s 100% possible to get the free pixie to learn ziodyne before fighting forneus and make the fight an absolute joke in the process. there’s also some bosses that, at least on hard mode, are super difficult that you can still challenge at any time, but if you’d rather not wait until you’re absurdly over leveled and have a team member capable of countering whatever skill the boss is throwing at you, you can chain mutations to get what you need.
a good way to farm mutations is get a demon close to leveling up, save at a terminal, then fight a battle or two. if it doesnt want to change a skill, the skill you got wasn’t what you’re looking for, etc., reload and try again. heck, you might get an amazing skill you weren’t fishing for. didn’t plan on my mizuchi getting endure but it happened.
so is it worth mutating? yes and no. trust me, you will want to save your game regardless since you also have a good chance of not getting what you want. nocturne won’t tell you what skill is being changed or what the result will be, and one bad skill can ruin what set you’re working towards. idk who at atlus in 2003 decided to make conversation skills available through skill mutation but they’re evil for doing so.
skill mutation also appears in other games and seems to work the same and have the same inheritances, but i may be wrong. this was meant to apply to nocturne.
thanks for reading this overly complicated explanation to a weird mechanic that took 2 hours to write up :)

hi, This is Ender/Whisper speaking
for awhile I have been confused by my gender, at first I thought I was cis but that didn't feel right, so I identified with Demigirl, it felt better, but didn't truly express how i felt
Later I started identifying myself with Demiflux, which for the most part worked! But I also felt a part of how I felt was missing, A part that identifies with Demifluid
Identifing with 2 gender's is very valid! and for a little bit I identified with both! But i've decided to create a label that has aspects of both gender's into it
This is Demiflow, also known as Demiswirl(I LIKE BOTH NAMES ABDBNS), It means that one feels partial gender that can shift from masculine to neutral to fem to any other gender alignment. However connected one feels to whatever gender they feel at the time fluctuates.
Heres the flag! Reblogs are highly appreciated, n I hope this might help some people feel more comfy in their own body :D

hello tit-disappearers!
I wanted to share something with you all about a new bra that I found which works quite well at compressing my chest. It seems like a functional (not perfect) alternative to binding for those who either cannot or choose not to bind. The bra in question is the “Women’s HeatGear Armour High Sports Bra” and it’s given price is $45 (but I got it for 33 on sale).
This bra does not have cups and isn’t made with cup shapes imbedded into the bra. The straps are easily adjustable hooks at the front. It’s a pretty wide bra so it has good coverage which assists in the compression. There is a bra band but it’s almost unnoticeable and doesn’t dig into my ribs. The texture is incredible it is one of the softest bras I think I’ve ever owned and doesn’t feel like the classic sports bra material.
This bra has tight compression that I definitely notice when wearing it (as well as some breathing restriction). As of right now though it isn’t causing me significant pain or asthma flare ups. Additionally, it is not a binder and does not flatten the chest as thoroughly as that.

the weirdest fucking thing to me is how men will be like "it's so hard being a man. no one cares that i'm sad. the loneliness we experience could NEVER be understood by a woman" and then also be like "btw i never talk to my friends and i don't know their names and i love hanging out with men because they don't talk about their stupid emotions all the time. women could never understand a bond like this." like ???

Today my therapist introduced me to a concept surrounding disability that she called "hLep".
Which is when you - in this case, you are a disabled person - ask someone for help ("I can't drink almond milk so can you get me some whole milk?", or "Please call Donna and ask her to pick up the car for me."), and they say yes, and then they do something that is not what you asked for but is what they think you should have asked for ("I know you said you wanted whole, but I got you skim milk because it's better for you!", "I didn't want to ruin Donna's day by asking her that, so I spent your money on an expensive towing service!") And then if you get annoyed at them for ignoring what you actually asked for - and often it has already happened repeatedly - they get angry because they "were just helping you! You should be grateful!!"
And my therapist pointed out that this is not "help", it's "hLep".
Sure, it looks like help; it kind of sounds like help too; and if it was adjusted just a little bit, it could be help. But it's not help. It's hLep.
At its best, it is patronizing and makes a person feel unvalued and un-listened-to. Always, it reinforces the false idea that disabled people can't be trusted with our own care. And at its worst, it results in disabled people losing our freedom and control over our lives, and also being unable to actually access what we need to survive.
So please, when a disabled person asks you for help on something, don't be a hLeper, be a helper! In other words: they know better than you what they need, and the best way you can honor the trust they've put in you is to believe that!
Also, I want to be very clear that the "getting angry at a disabled person's attempts to point out harmful behavior" part of this makes the whole thing WAY worse. Like it'd be one thing if my roommate bought me some passive-aggressive skim milk, but then they heard what I had to say, and they apologized and did better in the future - our relationship could bounce back from that. But it is very much another thing to have a crying shouting match with someone who is furious at you for saying something they did was ableist. Like, Christ, Jessica, remind me to never ask for your support ever again! You make me feel like if I asked you to call 911, you'd order a pizza because you know I'll feel better once I eat something!!
Edit: crediting my therapist by name with her permission - this term was coined by Nahime Aguirre Mtanous!
Edit again: I made an optional follow-up to this post after seeing the responses. Might help somebody. CW for me frankly talking about how dangerous hLep really is.
#hlep#original#mental health#my sympathies and empathies to anyone who has to rely on this kind of hlep to get what they need.#the people in my life who most need to see this post are my family but even if they did I sincerely doubt they would internalize it#i've tried to break thru to them so many times it makes my head hurt. so i am focusing on boundaries and on finding other forms of support#and this thing i learned today helps me validate those boundaries. the example with the milk was from my therapist.#the example with the towing company was a real thing that happened with my parents a few months ago while I was age 28. 28!#a full adult age! it is so infantilizing as a disabled adult to seek assistance and support from ableist parents.#they were real mad i was mad tho. and the spoons i spent trying to explain it were only the latest in a long line of#huge family-related spoon expenditures. distance and the ability to enforce boundaries helps. haven't talked to sisters for literally the#longest period of my whole life. people really believe that if they love you and try to help you they can do no wrong.#and those people are NOT great allies to the chronically sick folks in their lives.#you can adore someone and still fuck up and hurt them so bad. will your pride refuse to accept what you've done and lash out instead?#or will you have courage and be kind? will you learn and grow? all of us have prejudices and practices we are not yet aware of.#no one is pure. but will you be kind? will you be a good friend? will you grow? i hope i grow. i hope i always make the choice to grow.#i hope with every year i age i get better and better at making people feel the opposite of how my family's ableism has made me feel#i will see them seen and hear them heard and smile at their smiles. make them feel smart and held and strong.#just like i do now but even better! i am always learning better ways to be kind so i don't see why i would stop

I made a zine about adjusting cheaper wheelchairs, after adjusting my NHS wheelchair.
Tumblr media
Notes: Your wheelchair ‘service manual’ is a good resource for adjustments! You can often google them. Also, with the wheel adjustments, be prepared to move the breaks. Google how to measure for a wheelchair to find your seat width, and if you want to get extra, look at seat depth. Leg length is usually done by adjusting the footplate height.
Image description and printable version under the ‘read more’ .
Image Description:
An 8 page zine. Both images have the same content but the first one is arranged to be read on a computer. I am going to describe each page.
First page reads “A cripple’s guide to.. making a cheap(er) wheelchair work for you” and in smaller writing “by Sock - who uses an Invacare Action 2NG”. There is a drawing of a wheelchair in the centre.
Page 2 reads “Choosing a wheelchair. Look for adjustability (can you change wheel height? COG?), seat width (as close to your size as possible), and arm rests that can be lowered/removed.” Each item has a small drawing illustrating the point.
Page 3 reads “Adjusting a wheelchair. You will need… Allen key set (bike ones are good!), Pliers (for holding bolts) and Phone (for access to manuals, taking photos at each step.” Each item has a small drawing of it.
Page 4 reads “1. Adjust Wheel height. This can be done where the wheel “plugs in”. Your fingers should touch the wheel hub centre. If you can, move the wheel forward too (centre of gravity adjustment).” There is a small drawing of the wheel base, an arm reaching down to touch the centre of the wheel and a wheel base with an arrow pointing to the right showing it being moved.
Page 5 reads “2. Arm rest adjustments. Get your armrests as far down and as far back as they go. I keep mine on because of muddy weather/to protect clothes from spokes but you can also just remove them!” There is 2 drawings of a rounded and straight arm rest.
Page 6 reads “3. Modding castor wheels. Adjusting the height will change the seat angle. Smaller castor = easier turning, but makes rough pavements harder.” There is a drawing of a tilted chair with big castors and a straight chair with small castors, with a double pointed arrow between, with the caption “Play around!”
Page 7 reads “4. Footplates. You can take the footplates off and toe propel. You can make a foot sling out of a belt/luggage strap/paracord.” Both have an accompanying illustration. Then there is a note saying “if you have poor circulation, weakness, etc. oh might just want to keep the footplates on”.
Page 8 reads “5. Cushion. You need a cushion for your chair. Depending on how long you sit/how bony you are, you might need to spend a little more” then “£: Foam. ££: pressure relief cushion. £££: EBay/second hand for jay, invacare, low zone etc.”
End.

Invocation to the wrong deity
Diana needed help, but it was a burden that fell on her, since the danger was on Themyscira. She wasn't going to bother her companions with a personal problem so she didn't inform the League.
Or at least, she didn't think to ask for help until she realized that she required an experienced mage to perform a summoning. She could ask Zatana for help but she was on a journey, and Constantine was not an option. With a sigh she decided to contact Captain Marvel.
Her partner agreed to help her immediately, and with much reluctance on her mother's part (no one was happy with the Captain's participation but they accepted it) they managed to perform the summoning. Just in time, because one of the "evils" from Pandora's box had landed on their land.
Unfortunately, instead of summoning their old guide "Pandora", someone else appeared. A teenager in a star-spangled cloak looking around excitedly. Of course, no one was happy with such a development.
Except the summoned one, Danny was happy to leave his meeting with the Observants, the excuse of the summoning was always convenient.
