Katara could have ended up with Haru, and Zuko could have ended up with Jin, which I would have been happier with than canon Kataang and Maiko. The added irony that Zuko and Katara both flirted with people from the Earth Kingdom.

I like to think Haru noticed Zukos crush on Sokka, noticed he wasn’t doing anything about it, and so he started to flirt with Sokka infront of Zuko to make Zuko jealous. It worked.

so i asked her what her opinions were on Avatar characters…. here are her responses:

Aang: “he’s a fine old chap”

Katara: “we like her”

Zutara arguments be like

Dadko is canon therefore Momtara should be too(Zuko being the Team Dad of the Gaang was a sign of character development by healing his inner child and breaking the cycle of abuse while Mom Friend Katara is a compulsive trauma induced trait she's always talking about hating and wanting to be just a kid)

Aang is too immature for Katara so Zuko is better fit for her(See above)

Katara can only like brown guys(Jet and Haru)as a stepping stone to Zuko or it's #problematique and not real interracial rep

They used to hate eachother so it's destiny

Red x blue and sun x moon(Symbolism with zero in-universe romantic connecations and afaik not common irl ones either)

Zuko is a boy and Katara is a girl=Opposites attract because complimentary

Completely ignoring Ty Luko both as the most supported non-canon Zuko ship in-text and as a fandom rarepair so they can say every Zutara anti just has internalized misogyny while also being revolted by Aang's femininity and multigender/transfem egg hcs for him and even Zuko ironically enough despite claiming to love them for being 'a female fantasy'

man i miss haru. that boy worked retail AND suppressed a huge part of his identity that both tied to and alienated him from his inner family and community but refused to let it die AND went sent to jail for it AND he’s gay. truly an incredible character i desperately hope he appears in the live action

rewatching Avatar (because of course i am) and i just finished "The Day Of Black Sun". i love seeing the growth in all the characters from earlier appearances. There are three that stick out to me the most.

In "Imprisoned", Katara gets herself captured and taken to a fire nation prison brig to rescue Haru. his father Tyro is shown to have lost almost all hope and has resigned himself to waiting out the war and hoping to forget imprisonment when it's all over. now, we see him telling Haru he may escape before his son has a chance to rescue him.

In "The Northern Air Temple", the mechanist had to offer his services to the fire nation, creating weapons and ultimately war balloons for their army. Teo was so disaplointed in him after learning about that, asking how he can be proud of his father when his inventions are being used for murder. now, Teo is very proud of his father for using his gifts and intelligence to aid the resistance against the fire nation.

In "Jet", Sokka's instincts are made a joke when he suggests they walk instead of fly on Appa to travel, and they're downplayed when he tells Aang & Katara about Jet's ambush of an old fire nation man. the majority of the episode, even when the viewers can see that his instincts are right when it comes to Jet and the Freedom Fighters' intentions, they are mocked or dismissed until he warned and saved the people of the village that Jet and his crew destroy. now, he is fully trusted as a leader and everyone has faith in him and his strategies, even moreso when he takes the reigns leading the invasion after Hakoda's injuries.

Haru thinks that if he could freeze a moment in time, it would be this one: covered in mosquito-moth bites, bare feet purple and red from stepping on the cherries scattered on the ground by the wind. His shoulders ache from reaching above his head for the clusters of shiny black fruit, his thighs burn from the uphill climb to get to this place, away from the world. His hair's already escaping the ribbon he used to tie it back, sweat-soaked strands hanging in his face. The hot grass itches the backs of his calves and neck where he lays under the sun.

He doesn't think he's ever been more at peace.

Beside him, Jet leans back against the tree, skin glowing golden-brown in the patches of sun that make it through the leaves. His silhouette looks remarkably altered without his ever-present armor — because, despite his assertion that he doesn't get hot, he stripped out of armor, shirt and boots as soon as they reached the summit of the hill. Without them, Haru can see the slightly uneven set of his shoulders, the wiry muscle in his arms, the ripples and dents of broken ribs that never quite set properly. Presently, there's a relaxed slope in his posture, labored breaths giving way to slow, even sighs as he rests in the shade. In the sky overhead, clouds drift lazily in the breeze, the sun beating down on the hill.

Haru smiles, reaching over to twine their fingers together. Jet's gaze shifts over, dark eyes heavy-lidded, smiling lips stained purple. He squeezes Haru's hand, searching his face.

"Something on your mind?" he asks softly. It's gentle — not in the way he'll whisper when Haru's awake too late at night, or like when he croons at the pig-hens to get them off their eggs. It's the rare voice of Jet, completely relaxed and at peace.

"I was thinking," Haru begins, bringing Jet's hand up to his lips. "About this. Us, right now."

"Good things, I hope?" Jet asks, a blush darkening his cheeks as his eyes fix on Haru's mouth. Haru smiles.

"Only good things," he assures him, pulling his hand out of Jet's grip to tangle it in the soft brown hair, a little damp from sweat. Jet leans into the touch with a soft hum of content, resembling nothing as much as a content foxcat as he preens, before slipping out from under Haru's hand to smack a kiss on his cheek. Haru laughs, winding his arms around him.

"I wish we could capture this," he says. "Keep it somehow."

"I think the bug bites are here to stay," Jet remarks. He rests his head on Haru's shoulder, lips brushing his neck. "I know what you mean. It's nice. Peaceful."

Haru smiles. A year ago, it would have been hard to imagine Jet being so content with peace, but the time and space to heal, let the sharp edges of that grief inside him soften a little, has changed so much of him. He still has that fight inside of him, and Haru still loves that about him, but this new side is nice, especially in moments like this.

"I think we've earned it," he says, kissing Jet's forehead — easier than usual when they're sitting like this, without their difference in height. Jet's eyes drift closed as he pulls Haru down for a proper kiss. Haru leans in, taking in the taste of sweat and cherries on his lips.

"Mmh. We should probably take those cherries back for your mom," Jet says when they break for air. "She's gonna have our hides for taking this long."

"It'll be fine, she loves you." Haru kisses him once more for good measure. "You give her that pretty smile of yours and we're forgiven."

Jet ducks his head to hide the blush creeping up his face. Haru laughs, kissing his cheek and pulling him up.

They gather their things — Haru the basket of harvested cherries, Jet his pile of boots, shirt and armor — and together walk back toward the farm, hand-in-hand.

A random AU idea i’ve had since 2020, but like a Total Drama x Avatar the Last Airbender.

Just Iroh taking them to a random island to do challeges. He’s Chris, but slightly less. unhinged.

Group Headcanons:

Aang and Zuko want to smack Jet on a daily basis. They both have an unspoken alliance about they try to vote Jet out everytime.

Sokka most definetly tries to be the team leader only to be shut down by everyone else for the most part. Sokka wishes that he could be on the other team because maybe they’d appreciate his leadership skills. 50% of the group doesn’t respect Sokka trying to be the group leader, but that doesn’t stop him from trying.

Toph and June arm wrestle and they have a good rivalry going for them

Azula loves the confessionals just because she loves voicing how she feels about everyone.

They also have different challenges and spin a wheel for the type of challenges that they do. Sometimes bending is allowed other times it’s not period. And any team that has a member that uses bending during those types of challenges gets immediatly sent to elimination. Iroh will know if they are cheating because he’s Iroh.
