Obviously, I am not a rockstar in the 70s (hopefully I was in another life) but I have done as much research as possible to try and make it accurate. 𝟔. harry looks up at the sound of his door opening, noticing the young girl from his show earlier, being pushed into his room, door swiftly closing behind her.

he furrows his eyebrows, head tilting, “who are you ?” he asks in contemplation.

“i- i’m ladybug,” she stammers, eyes wide as she looks at him. he’s even more beautiful in person, leaning against a vanity that’s nailed to the wall.

“ladybug ?” he hums, eyes raking over her, as he nods towards a chair in front of him, “come in, i wont bite,” he chuckles, smirking.

she breathes a nervous laugh, walking over to the chair and taking a seat in front of him. he smelled so good, so fresh. his eyelashes were incredibly long, fanned out beautifully. his skin was a porcelain white, eyes a soft mossy green, lips a bit red bitten. she notes his fingers are littered with rings, each of which looking more intricate and more expensive than the last. his nails painted an alternating pattern of pink and black.

the tiny hairs on the back of her neck are made to stand, as she feels his gaze examining her as well. he hums out quietly, “what’s got a pretty girl like yourself coming to me ?”

she bites her lip, looking down at her hands resting in her lap, thumbs fumbling together in distraction, “i uh- well, i’m looking for a place to call home. clara said that i should talk with you.”

“s’that who pushed you in here ?” he asks, eyebrows furrowing, smirk pulling at his lips, muttering to himself, “m’gonna have to talk to her.” harry shakes his head, looking up at her again, “what can you bring to the show then ? d’you have a talent ? or something that’s considered an oddity ?”

at that, her heart feels like it stops. like her hopes had been shattered. she feels her breath catch in her throat, mouth slightly parted, no answer filtering itself out.

her shoulders deflate, every ounce of confidence drained from her being. harry notices. and in a split second, his heart plummets, because never had he imagined that such a simple question would crush someone’s day. everyone’s he’s met has always had something about them. can’t imagine her actually having nothing to offer.

so he crouches down, his back pressed to the vanity drawers, bringing himself to right about her eye level. tentatively, and delicately, his hand reaches out for hers, resting atop gently, thumb stroking soothingly. “something happened to you,” he hums, knowingly, reading her.

“what makes you say that ?” she asks quietly, eyes meeting his.

“v’been doing this long enough to notice when someone needs a family,” he murmurs, “what is it you’re running away from ?”

when had he gotten so close ? she feels like she’s mesmerized and suffocating all at once. the moment seemed to become so intense, so fast. she doesn’t think there’s ever been a time where someone’s really looked at her. it’s heartwarming. and it scares the living piss out of her at the same time.

“everything,” she sighs, feeling some tears gather in her eyes, willing them not to fall as best she could, one stray droplet escaping and cascading down her cheek. “i’m running away from the person i never was.”

she notices the sadness take over harry’s features, empathy plastered in his gaze, as the back of his knuckles gently make contact with her cheek, softly wiping the tear away, “how could anybody hurt you so bad ?” he asks. no matter how many people he’s talked to, he doesn’t think he’s heard anything so heart wrenching. has she really spent the entirety of her life, hiding herself ? her beautiful self.

“i like to believe that they just didn’t understand me,” she explains softly, shrugging. “at least that’s the only way i can look at it without absolutely despising everyone that i’ve ever known.”

harry hums at that, nodding, a serious look taking over his features, “i like the way you think. it’s very positive. s’incredible to be able to hold onto that in your darkest times.”

she nods, taking a big breath. is it possible she’s gotten closer to him ? it’s like a bizarre pull, she’s not even sure either of them have really noticed, but they keep getting slightly closer and closer to each other. and it makes her feel like she’s lying to him. like she hasn’t been truthful. when in reality she has. but still, it’s a feeling she can’t shake. especially now that he’s so close to her, and he’s looking at her with the same adoration she was looking at him with.

“i-“ she cuts herself off, his eyes flicking up to find her own, noting the seriousness, the sadness, the panic. “i wasn’t- i don’t have- i’m not-,” she stammers again, sighing, her eyes flicked down again. in shame ? in fear ? she wasn’t sure. but she was sure that she couldn’t look into his eyes. couldn’t see the disappointment on the face of her first crush, when he finds out about her. it’d be too painful.

“hey,” harry murmurs, fingertip reaching out to glide along her jaw, stopping at her chin, lifting her face, his eyes locking on hers, “i know,” he murmurs, nodding in understanding, “but i also know a beautiful girl when i see one. and you, bug, are just gorgeous.”

she feels her heart burst, never having heard that she’s beautiful, much less gorgeous. being called a girl, the whole thing, it seemed too good to be true. what was the deal with this harry guy ? how did he just kind of know about her, as well ? what game is he playing at ? what does he want from her ?

“i’m flattered harry, but-“

she’s cut off with the press of harry’s finger against her lips, harry shaking his head, “no buts. v’been around long enough to have met plenty of people like you. you’re not as rare as you may have been led to believe,” he hums, finger moving away from her mouth, as he notes that he’s rendered her fairly speechless. “and i think you’re very beautiful. that’s all,” he smiles softly, mouth quirking into a smirk, “and if the way you were ogling me during the show tonight is anything to go by, i’d bet that you think i’m fairly beautiful as well.”

her cheeks go bright red, eyes growing wide, pure embarrassment washing over her features at being caught. she hadn’t really had this feeling before, one of lust or love or adoration or whatever this weird warmth was, she was completely unsure of how to navigate this.

“you don��t have to be nervous around me,” harry coos, “i promise i’m not a bad person.”

“no, i dont think you are,” she explains quickly. “but you do make me nervous harry,” she hums, “clara told me that you were searching for people with talents, and well, i don’t have one. you seem very kind, but you confuse me as well. and you’re the first person i’ve met that can offer a sense of home and family, so of course i’m nervous,” she huffs softly, all of that weighing heavily on her, finally lifted. although she may very well have told harry a bit too much.

he smiles sympathetically at her, patting her knee before standing again, bum rested against the vanity, as he was when she walked in. “clara’s right. the people that get to tag along tend to have a purpose to this roadshow,” harry nods, finger tapping his chin pensively.

“i know, and i’m not anything,” she groans exasperatedly. “i’m not the tallest man, or the shortest lady. i can’t tell anyone’s future, or dance around poles in time with others. i can’t grow a twin out of my shoulder, or run around a room full of mirrors without being seen,” she adds, making him smirk and chuckle quietly, as she continues on, “i can’t throw knives at people without hitting them, hell i can’t even shuffle cards without making them scatter around the entire room.”

she notes the confused expression on harry’s face, as he shakes his head, “but we already have all those things. of course you’re not the tallest man, didn’t you meat him earlier ?” he asks. “don’t need another one, we need something unique. need something you. need to know what you’re good at,” he explains as though it’s the most obvious thing.

she’s felt so unique, so one of a kind her entire life, and for the first time it makes her think, “with all that being said, it sounds like i’m not different enough or anything to be in this show.”

“christ, for such a positive girl, you look down on yourself a lot,” he mutters softly. “course you’re good at something, beautiful bug. everyone is.”

it’s the second time she’s let the pet name slide. she didn’t think she’d like it, but coming from him, she doesn’t think she’d like anything more.

“m’good at drawing, i guess,” she shrugs, picking at her fingernails.

“hmm,” harry nods, smiling, “s’that so ? what do you like to draw ?”

“the people from my town,” she mutters, “i always felt so different around them. so i drew them in different ways, make them look a bit bizarre with big noses or foreheads. show myself that everyone is different in their own way,” she adds quietly.

harry smiles wide, “think we’ve found your talent, miss ladybug.”

she hums in confusion, looking up at him, eyebrows furrowed, “what do you mean ?”

“caricatures,” harry explains, “that’s what you’ve been drawing. it’s called caricatures. and people pay good money to have themselves drawn in whacky ways.”

“really ?” she asks, excitedly, hopefully. did she just find her way in ? did she just find a home ?

“yeah,” he smiles, nodding at her in understanding. “i’d like you to join the show. we’ll find you an empty boxcar. everyone gets one. a place to call home. s’not much, same size as mine here,” he explains, hands extended to showcase the space. “you’re free to decorate it as you like, just remember that we do move every few nights, so certain things may need to be bolted down.”

“oh gosh, of course, of course,” she nods excitedly, making a mental note of everything he’s telling her.

“all of the money we earn, we split equally,” he goes on. “no one makes more than anyone else. we’re family, we’re equals, and we all support each other. s’not about who had the best performance of the evening, it’s about the entirety of the show. we all have better and worse days than others, we shouldn’t be rewarded/penalized as such. that being said, if something needs to be fixed, everyone pitches in as much as they can to help. it’s our show, it’s not just my show.”

she furrows her eyebrows there, “but clara said you approved the people joining. she described it as if it was your show.”

“i created it,” harry explains. “started this show from the ground up. so, i am protective of it. and i want everyone to work together, and to get along. to be kind and understanding and empathetic. to be for each other, what the world couldn’t do for us. and i’m not afraid to deny someone a place here if they can’t follow that simple level of respect.”

she nods in understanding, a feeling of calmness and peace washing over her at his words, “it’s refreshing to meet someone like you. where did you learn to be so understanding ?”

“i’ve been around a while,” he chuckles, floating by the question slightly, “v’met a lot of people. and i’ve found that the nicest ones tend to be the humans that society rejects. so why not band together ? they look at us in disgust if we walk past them on the street, but they’ll give us their hard earned money to come gawk at us,” he rolls his eyes. “s’disgusting, but it makes a mighty good living. and it keeps all of us together, happy, and playing the strengths that god blessed us with.”

“where have you been all my life ?” she mutters quietly, in disbelief. because really, she’d have hopped onto their moving train years ago if she could have.

harry giggles, biting his lip, “like i said, v’been around,” he smiles, adding more seriously, “i believe that things happen at the perfect moments in our lives. we were here, in this town, at the same time, because we were ready to find each other,” he shakes his head, chuckling, “christ, maybe i’ve been spending too much time talking to clara.”

she laughs with him, smile permanently stuck on her lips, “no, i kind of believe that. things happened in the last few months that gave me the confidence to walk away from my situation. i wouldn’t have had the guts to join you had it been before that.”

harry smiles, nodding in understanding, “just promise you won’t tell clara that i think she’s right. wont ever live that one down.”

she laughs again, nodding, a glint in her eye. between her earlier conversation with clara, and now this talk with harry, she can definitely see herself fitting in here. the happy banter, the warm, inviting atmosphere, the deep conversations. “i promise.”

harry takes note at how much calmer she is, how much happier she seems after just a simple conversation. he feels himself gravitating towards her even more. not only was she absolutely beautiful, but she was smart, well rounded, easy to talk to, hell she even has some proper life experience under her belt. he’s already fucked and he knows it. even more so when she gives him the sweetest flirty eyes he’s ever been blessed enough to see.

truth is, he’s been with a lot of different people. never much cared for body parts, more into the lusty eyes and good conversations. add that to the constant traveling around europe, one could definitely say he’s made his way around. in more ways than one. but he’s never quite been so intrigued by someone as he has been since his eyes made contact with hers during his show. he doesn’t know what it is, can’t quite put his finger on it, but harry knows he’s in for a treat having her along for the ride.

“on that note, beautiful bug, would you like to meet your new family ?”

“Question...?” (Midnights) Matty Healy Masterpost

I haven’t done an analytic post in quite some time! I’m a little rusty, but I felt like this would be fun and …Question? has been pondering on my mind for some time now.

Before I hop into it, this is just a personal analysis theory. I’m not Taylor. I cannot ‘confirm’ whether a song is about someone, only Taylor holds those cards. Since it is a solely a theory; if you have a different opinion on ‘who’ you think a song is about, that is ok.

Now anyways, let’s get started...

Short Summary: …Question? Is a song where the song narrator (singing the song) is specifically reminiscing about a short lived moment of the past, regarding a short-lived situtationship, which we cannot fully call an official relationship because it was fleeting. The song narrator ponders on Questions she’s asking a former brief past lover. The narrator also opens up her heart, and telling her side of the story to that past brief lover, whom she has the Questions to.

Who is the ex fleeting situtationship? (Who the song is about?): Matty Healy.

How is it about Matty, well firstly, I know commonly Harry Styles is thought to be the muse of this track, and (you never can say never, he very well could ‘still’ be as Harry has similar coincidences experienced and the OOTW sample) but heavily it seems to lay on Matty.

Let’s take an insight look to the lyrics, in a more depth way:

‘Good girl, sad boy / Big city, wrong choices”

Taylor tends to usually refer herself as a ‘good girl’ and has in previous songs, which narratively make it easily to come to the conclusion she is speaking about herself here. The ‘big city’ she refers to is New York, which, Taylor first met Matty Healy in 2014. New York is the “big city” as it’s often nicknamed the big apple for a reason.

At the time Matty had also met Taylor, it was known he was going through a lot himself: former heroin-addiction, outbursts, etc which led to a band intervention. He was not in a good place at the time of the rumors with Taylor.

“Wrong choices” also aren’t from Matty’s end either, Taylor is also speaking about her own wrong choices in the setting of New York.

“We had one thing goin' on / I swear that it was somethin'”

This is a very specific lyric that many may overlook, but tells a lot by the song narrator. Taylor indicates that she, “swears” they had something going on, meaning there wasn’t anything official, or set in stone. Thus why she, “swears” by it. This lyric here tends to steer me away from the Harry Styles theories, as Harry was in a full fledge (official) relationship with Taylor, unlike Matty where they were briefly having “something going on” even though it was fleeting, and she explains (in the rest of the song, why).

But one thing after another | Fuckin’ situations, circumstances | Miscommunications, and I have to say, by the way | I just want some explanations

This lyric is quite intriguing because it is insight what led to to derailing and the shortness of this situtationship, and Taylor is asking for an answer (to, whom) she is singing to. Around the time Taylor was seeing Matty (in 2014), briefly as it was just starting up, there was an interview where he described potentially dating Taylor Swift as ‘emasculating’ and denying the possibility of them dating when asked in the past. He later apologized publicly, and said his words were miscommunication, implying they were taken out of context and correcting what he meant.

There is a letter somewhere of his public response, I can’t find the link right now, but it does exist.

Which fits the “miscommunication issues” that led to lost.

Can I ask you a question? Did you ever have anyone kiss someone in a crowded room and every single one of your friends was makin’ fun of you but fifteen seconds later, they were clapping too?

I won’t say much about these lyrics, as it’s a very straight forward retelling specific moment, and Taylor (the narrator) is asking how they felt about that, but it is obvious they shared a kiss, his mates teased him and it’s not the ordinary, only for them to be cheering them on, which mates tend to do. You could also say this scenario is weird for the both of them based on the circumstance.

Half-moon eyes, bad surprise Did you realize out of time?

So, Matty seems to have a hooded eye shape, which you could describe as ‘half-moon’ and when he smiles becomes more obvious in which she is describing. When she also asks, “did you realize out of time?” Is their situtationship coming to an end, and him knowing such.

“She was on your mind with some dickhead guy / That you saw that night”

Now commonly people think these lyrics apply to Harry as Harry looked distressed seeing Taylor with Calvin (masterpost here) but Harry wasn’t the only one during this time who was experiencing this. Around the timing of Matty and Taylor when Taylor started to get close and began seeing Calvin, Matty was there. That exact day. Dickhead guy is also Calvin Harris, btw for anyone specifically curious.

“But you were on somethin' It was one drink after another”

As already said in this masterpost previously, Matty in the past was taking heavy drugs during this era of time. By 2017, an intervention was held for him by his bandmates. “On something” is pretty on the nose from Taylor.

What also debunks. …Question? Being about Harry Styles, is Harry in an interview himself said he never took drugs, until One Direction split. As he didn’t want to be the one who “fucks up.” It’s been said as well, Harry took One Direction seriously way back then, while his other bandmates (Louis, Zayn) were experimenting. He was “not on something” (Harry) he saw Taylor and Calvin, and that was the BBMA. Unlike Matty who “ran out of time” immediately after, cause after their breath flirting back and forth, Taylor met Calvin right then.

“Fuckin' politics and gender roles”

Matty has been politically outspoken for awhile now, I don’t know too much about him, but 21-year old Harry at the time wasn’t politically outspoken, besides maybe saying “don’t go to sea world” which is all I can really find, etc.

“Got swept away in the gray”

This may or may not be a similar reference like how Halsey paints Matty Healy and associates him with the color gray, he has strips of gray in his hair. Gray (as a color) = associated with some negative connation's, as it symbolizes loss, gloom, etc. Just like “blue’ is associated with describing the feeling of sadness.

Other than the lyrics, let’s talk about the sampling from OOTW.

There are theories that ‘About You’ may be Matty’s song to Taylor (whether it was written about her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ up to you), but About You is saying, “did you think I forgotten” while OOTW is, “I remember” … Lastly, it is Jack who has long time worked with Taylor both on OOTW and Question. Both songs are on each others pre-set list as well.
