Ok but- and I am saying this with respect for your point of view bc I think you are correct on a wider societal level- I keep seeing this argument of 'There is more m/m fanfic therefore this fandom is lesbiphobic and misogynistic' and it has bothered me for a long time. As a queer girl myself, asexual and somwehere on the aro spectrum, who has many wlw ships and enjoys looking at art for them... I don't enjoy reading wlw or straight fics bc I subconsciously project myself into the relationships too much (this is also why i generally avoid reading straight romance books lol). When I read mlm fic, there's a degree of separation from me that means I can enjoy it without getting anxious about imagining myself in that position.
I'm not trying to be like 'oh woe is me i cant read yuri', im just explaining my own reasons, and trying to get across that other people have their own reasons for what they enjoy- ranging from long winded explanations like mine to 'idk I'm attracted to guys and I like writing about them'. People have preferences, and that comes across in most fandoms, even in heavily female casts like prsk. Like I mentioned, lack of wlw content IS an issue.... when it comes to mainstream media. But when it comes to fanfic... the majority of writers are queer, many are women, hell, some of the most prolific writers of mlm fic I know are lesbians. People have their own reasons for writing what they like, and they do it for FREE. I think it's silly to say a fandom is misogynistic when most of these fandoms are full of queer female writers writing what they want to write.
And again I say this with respect because I do see where you're coming from- instead of saying 'write less mlm', because absolutely one will listen to that.... say 'write more wlw'. Write what you want to see in the world! More fics are always a good thing!! And if you don't want to read about guys, that's what the ao3 filters are for lol.
If you actually read all this, thank you, I really appreciate it. Sorry for yapping in your ask box LOL I just wanted to express my opinion on this topic bc it's something that I care about a lot. See, the thing is, i agree with you, but is that really the only reason for A LOT of people?
What im advocating is not for people to write less mlm, is for they to look at themselves and wonder why they like it more, i know a lot of people who claim to like the boys more for this reason or that, then turn around and act completely misogynistic 5 seconds later, some of them in this fandom, even.
Im just saying that in a fandom with way more girls than boys, it makes not much sense how much more content of the boys there is.
The ao3 filters exist, yes, but they dont stop me from having barely any content even on bigger wlw shipps, from rereading the same fics over and over again because that's all I have for days/weeks, months even on the leoni/mmj side of fandom.
Sincerely, I have myself over 50 prsk fics, only one includes mlm and that one is a multi, focused mainly on platonic ships, and is still somehow my most famous fic.
I see your point, really, and I agree with it, but it only comes so far in a fandom like prsk where there's way more girls, or Alien Stage, that my friend got me into and the girls have been canon for so long but the boys have nearly always been more famous, even before they became "canon". As a wlw enjoyer its tiring to see this over and over again in every fandom im in, you know?
Plus, its not just not writing girls, its how the fandom ACTS with them. Saki as just a fodder for Tsukasa angst, Honami might as well not even exist, Mizuki themselves exist only to be a friend to Rui to a lot of people, An and Kohane? They're only backgrounds on Akitouya, that is when An doesn't get in between the ship, of course. Emu can't even be shipped with one of the boys, because she's a child obviously, but she can be shipped with Nene, just leave her to the side its alright.
Its a lot of double standards, and not only "not writing fics", the fics are just a quick way of showing what I mean.

what inspired you to choose a different tournament format rather than single elimination? do you know of any other accounts doing something similar?
even before tumblr polls were a thing, i thought it was interesting the conflicts presented when doing a single elimination tournament for voting based off of people choosing favorites when the options aren't equally known to all voters.
whether or not people seed multifandom character tournaments, there are still things that hamper my enjoyment. if you don't seed, then it can be frustrating to see a strong competitor knocked out arbitrarily early. if you do seed, then even if you get some strong matchups later on, its disappointing to me to just concede that some characters are meant to be eliminated even earlier than they might be able to make it (especially disappointing when you're a fan of a lot of relatively unpopular media!)
so within the couple weeks of tumblr poll tournaments being a thing,i was really itching to try out a different format!!
i tried to think about which aspects of tournaments were fun for me
it's fun to root for your favorite character and get really competitive about it! it feels good to see them go far!
it's fun to have intense matches where characters feel equally matched!
it's fun to see your lesser known favorites get further than you expect them to! and even if they don't get far, it's fun to bring awareness to them at all!
i pretty quickly decided that elimination tournaments were in conflict with some of my wants. nonetheless though, there's a lot to be said for the silly fun that can come from their fierce competition and surprise upsets
certain voting or tournament systems might not have the arbitrary eliminations of single elimination tournaments, but still didn't feel right for my purposes. for example, (beyond the other concern of popular vs unpopular characters) a full round robin tournament might get exhausting with the amount of competitors i'd want in any tournament i felt like hosting. and there's other types of tournaments/voting systems that would give "accurate" end results, but that i couldn't find a way to gamify in the moment so that each matchup felt like a unique thing worth rooting for with an obvious resulting benefit, which was important to me.
while not as much as other options, i still have a slight worry that even with a points system, a mcmahon style tournament might be a little too hard to follow for people to really have fun with the stakes of each individual match. but in the end i went with it because i thought it'd be really interesting to see how a skill-based tournaments system for determining skill level could be translated to popularity (in the known sense, not the liked sense), and i liked how it was dynamic enough to allow matchups not expected by the original popularity sorting if it turned out to not be as accurate, and how it could adapt to a wide range of contestants, and didn't necessarily need to have any set amount of rounds if it turned out it was more work to get more granular with the results than i initially expected.
but honestly despite having this in the back of my mind for months now, i havent done much active work until the past couple weeks when i finally started to have free time. i definitely still have a lot to consider when it comes to how many rounds i want to do and how many contestants or what exactly this is gonna look like! i'm simulating fake tournaments today to get at least some sense for whats realistic, but beyond that i hope you'll all have fun going along with this experiment with me! :)
and no i'm not familiar with any accounts doing something similar (let me know if you know any! i'd love to learn from them and participate!), although for other unconventional tournament formats, i'm really excited to see what @wlw-webcomic-bracket is doing for future rounds, and i think the special abilities in @funkylittlebaldcharapoll are an absolute blast (support the union!!!!)

If you’re fed up with Netflix
This is especially to my fellow wlw, and only do this if it appeals to you. I’m not demanding anyone do anything before I get randos coming at me. If it’s not for you scroll on, simple as that.
I’m officially done with Netflix, Warrior Nun was the last chance I was giving them. It’s very clear what their platform is about, and it’s not worth trying to find joy on it because they won’t allow you to get immersed in anything with their quantity over quality model.
Rationally it’s unlikely we can “save a show” no matter how popular or how much noise is made, but if there’s even a sliver of a chance it has to be quick, because once a show is canceled good luck getting everyone who was under contract back in order to continue it. So the more time that goes by the less likely it will happen if there was even a chance to begin with.
In my opinion those change.org petitions seem useless, they’re easily ignored, but sign them if you want. Of course, continue making noise about the show on social media, it deserves the hype and if by some miracle a show is able to get picked up somewhere else, that buzz is needed to make that possible
The only effort I see worth it as a hail Mary is to put your money where your mouth is if you’re seriously as fed up as I am. If Netflix gets a sudden influx of cancelations and account deletions it'll be noticed.
So, if you want, do the following:
Cancel your Netflix membership and include Warrior Nun as a reason in the 'Other' option
2. Request Netflix delete your account and include Warrior Nun as a reason. Netflix will automatically delete accounts that are inactive for 10 weeks, but you can request they delete your account right away or after you current subscription is up. I decided to do this so notice would HAVE to be taken instead of my account slowly fading into obscurity. Follow the instructions here:
I couldn't find the option to delete by mobile so I followed the option to email.
Email [email protected] and make sure to do the request from the email you used to sign up with Netflix. Under the ‘Keep reading’ I’ll include the email I wrote as an example for those who like something to go off of.

I have canceled my Netflix subscription today (December 13th, 2022) and have decided not to use Netflix anymore. I would like to request you immediately delete my account from your database along with all the data associated to it ahead of the 10-month cooldown period.
I've grown tired of this company canceling shows even if they've grown in viewership and buzz substantially. I can't trust my time or joy with this platform, and it's very clear that the business model is quantity over quality.
I've given chance after chance, and the final straw is the recent cancelation of Warrior Nun. The show exploded in popularity despite $0 in promotion spent on it and it being buried on Netflix to the point that a lot of fans waiting for the new season didn't even know the new season released. This platform didn't have to spend any extra money or effort on it. I really don't get the decision with the traction and hype it gained, and it being the type of show that could monetize off merchandise. I'm starting to think is was already canceled, which is why the amazing reception of season 2 didn't matter. Would also make sense why the show was buried and released quietly amongst the heavily promoted and established Netflix shows.
I've learned over and over again that I can't get excited or invested in anything on Netflix no matter how big something starts getting outside of the few heavily advertised darlings. The only way I can think of coming back to Netflix is if it's proven that it's worth it to invest enjoyment in Netflix shows. I get a show being cancelled if it has nothing going for it, but there have been too many occasions where something has viewership, hype, and an active big fandom that would normally have it renewed and that joy continuously gets ripped away for a new batch of nonsense to rinse and repeat.
I'm guessing that Warrior Nun wouldn't even be allowed to find a new home with its hype despite Netflix not being willing to continue it?
All in all, I'm just really tired and ready to move on.

re: gay fun, so last week I went to this singles meetup for Sapphic people (which I guess is like saying wlw? Or maybe it's supposed to be inclusively anyone who isn't a man and who likes women? I'm not up on the latest word usage tbh) and it was really enjoyable!! It was the first time I'd been to something like that so I didn't know what to expect, but we all basically stood around with our beers or coffees and just chatted about whatever! I met some interesting people including one really cute girl in particular. I got her number and we texted a little bit....I wanted to see her again this week at another meetup but I maybe have covid now (unrelated) so I can't go...but maybe since I have her number I can still keep in touch and go next time :)
It's really a shame I'm getting sick because I'm just starting to explore the queer side of the city AND of course it's about to be pride month so there's going to be extra special stuff going on! But hey, the queer people will still be there after June ends and we're still gonna want to meet each other so it's all good.

can you explain the storyline in critical role for me? if that's too much, who is your favorite character in critical role (and why)?
ohhhhh anon you shouldn’t have gotten me started…..
this is going to be so fucking long i’m so sorry so! critical role is a show/company comprised at it’s core of eight friends, all of whom are professional voice actors, playing dungeons & dragons together. they have 3 campaigns, the third of which is currently happening, as well as many oneshots, talk shows, an animated show, and more. each campaign has a very in-depth storyline, but i’ll do a brief summary of each of them. campaign 1 is vox machina, a ragtag band of mercenaries who become dragon-slaying, vampire-killing, god-fighting heroes. the characters (in my opinion) are all very lovable, and there's some really great romantic, platonic, and familial relationships. it's probably the most cliche in it's representation of fantasy and d&d so i recommend it for people who like that. there's also an animated show of it on amazon prime with one season out and another on the way! no knowledge of critical role is needed to watch the show,, it's how i got into cr in the first place. campaign 2 is the mighty nein, a bunch of fucked up and morally gray people who make a really good adventuring-team-turned-found-family. there’s a lot more diversity in these characters in terms of species/race than in campaign one, which can be enjoyable if you want your characters with horns and tails and tusks and funky-colored skin. full disclosure, i probably know the least about the mighty nein so some of the more complicated plot lines are more confusing to me,, that being said, i’ve still watched a lot of campaign 2 stuff and i adore them a whole lot. campaign 3 is bell’s hells, who really are just some guys that accidentally got involved in something way bigger than any of them. they’re all so dumb and easily trusting and so very lovely <3 there’s some really cool character designs and concepts, which i love. they’re currently on episode 34 of this campaign, so it’ll be going on for a while longer (the other two campaigns are 100+ episodes), which can be fun if you like watching things live. because this is already a full length essay, i’ll keep it very brief on the favorite characters part… my favorite characters are the three played by liam o’brien: vax’ildan, caleb widogast, and orym. liam is just such a phenomenal actor and his characters are so sad and emotional and fantastic and yeah i just love all three of them a whole lot <3 every campaign has moments that are wildly funny and moments that will make you cry your eyes out… there’s also fantastic queer characters in every campaign (including but not limited to aroace characters, multiple ace-spec characters, poly characters, a prominent wlw couple, and a lot more). in addition to the show, there are comics for campaigns one and two, and a published novel with one more on the way. anyways. i’m so sorry for how long this is, but that’s what you get for asking a neurodivergent person about their hyperfixation i guess 🤷♀️ i know critical role can seem like a lot, and that turns many people off of it, but you really don’t have to watch the entire thing in order to be a fan. i’ve been intensely hyperfixated on it for seven months, and i’ve watched one (1) episode in its entirety. it really is so so good and such a fun gateway into d&d as well as just a very enjoyable group of people to help restore your faith in humanity and bring a smile to your face. i could not recommend it highly enough.

I did not know i enjoyed blood and gore and sad angst until i read gtn so all my recs are entirely different feels (happy and feel good😅). But they are good and should be enjoyed nontheless!
The Folk of The Air, by Holly Black. Faeries and ya classic enemies to lovers trope. Main characters are absolute jerks and I am here for it (i want to say harrow/ianthe vibes, but theyre also their own people). All her books are good and I am a HB stan. There is an order to the other faerie books but they also act as somewhat standalones so go wild. Hetero but good.
The Mermaid, the Witch and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall. Its all in the title baby! Also enby protag, fun piratey adventures, weird but cool magic. It does also have some hard subject matter, so look up tw if ur not into that. Very queer!
Howls Moving Castle! I reread it all the time and its always good. I really do love a weird shitty character and Howl and Sophie are so weird and flawed. I love it.
Tiger Tiger! By Petra Nordlund. Its a webcomic, its very queer, very nerdy, and so gorgeous! Dorky nerdy lady protag with a potenial enby monster gf on the horizon?? Yes i love monster love interests, go away.
Mistborn. I have only read the first one though. I love a good romance in books, i really do. But what i remember, this romance sucked! The rest was very good and yes i cried reading it so thats good right? Its also been a while so i cant remember alot. Rip! Still! It was enjoyable!
And on the subect of book i read forever ago. Obernewtyn and Poison Study were my faves for a long time! I really cant remember alot.
I dont have many queer or wlw recs soz! I dont read as many boojs as i used too (i want to tho!)

HELLO
I have emerged from the game after 14 hours and I've finished the campaign. Main campagin only though, I still have plenty of side stuff to do and everything with Season of the Risen which I haven't touched at all.
There's so much stuff that I want do discuss but I'm in desperate need for sleep so just a quick run down under read more. Spoilers for Witch Queen campaign:
First of all, as the resident Darkness enjoyer, I gotta say, Bungie really decided to feed me on this Tuesday/Wednesday. So much about the Darkness, fully embracing stuff about the Winnower aka Entity which is now canonically The Witness. So many Pyramid things and Pyramid achitecture. And you know, the ending cutscene. Literally SNATCHED my WIG off to ANDROMEDA. I have insane thoughts. I will not be able to articulate them for months to come.
Second right away, please note that Martian Missives lore book is a fake. Like, it was made by Savathun most likely and none of the entries are true. They all have subtle and obvious mistakes. I'll go in depth about it at some point.
Sagira. Killed me dead, my god, Bungie. But also other lore :) Seasonal armour chest piece is a must read! Sobbing!
SAVATHUN!!!!!!!! SHE!!! The cutscenes with her were so good and I cried. Same with Ikora. Insane. Also Eris? AND MARA? WLW STAY WINNING. Got frightened when Zavala and Ikora argued but it was all well in the end. Really really loving the mission dialogues. They are pretty much confirming everything that has been suspected and there aren't really any surprises.
Including Mara! Wow! She is working with us! She has weird methods and everyone has something against it, but at the end she is working with us! Eris and Ikora trust her unconditionally! Now bring Sjur back.
Fynch??????????? I LOVE HIM. I would DIE for him. I would straight up die for this little man. Love his interactions with Ghost and their bickering. Little boys........... Also so much talking from Ghost. Thank you Bungie for my life.
The campaign is WILD and beautiful. The locations are amazing. Everything about Savathun is amazing. Obviously suspecting it's not the last we've seen of her since Immaru survived.
I have some criticisms too and stuff that I think could've been added or done better, but I'll reserve those for some time later, maybe when I replay it in the future. One criticism I will add is just like. Accessibility. I don't have any obvious issues with accessibility except some stuff with my vision, but even I had some points where you know, things could be a bit more visible or at least there should be options to make them more visible. Glaive can also be very disorienting. I love glaive btw, easily top 3 weapons. Just sometimes hard to follow what's going on.

Rating the Books I read after Gideon the Ninth (in order) by how well they made me forget my Gideon the Ninth angst
I starred the ones that I actually recommend if you want something similar to gtn.
I was bored so I made this. Mostly just so I can look back at this and laugh at myself in a few months and remember what I’ve read.

**Harrow the Ninth -Tamsyn Muir
Summary: A depressed girl has to navigate murder attempts by both the mom and the dad of her dead ex-girlfriend who she can’t remember. She tries to make soup and writes fanfic to cope.
How well it helped me forget: -100/10 but also 10/10
Rating explanation: This one gets a 10/10 because it did make me feel better about a *particular* GTN plotpoint which I was very angsty about, but tragically it did make me more feral. After reading it I reread both books so I don’t think it helped me forget my angst.
Similar themes to GTN: all of it, plus more memes
I Want to Be Where The Normal People Are - Rachel Bloom
Summary: Rachel Bloom who wrote the world’s most relatable song: “You Stupid Bitch,” and starred/created in Crazy Ex Girlfriend, writes about having anxiety, feeling like she’s not normal, and Harry Potter fanfic.
How well it helped me forget: 8/10
Rating explanation: For a few minutes I actually did forget about my griddlehark angst while I learned more about Bloom’s life and laughed at the painful relatability of it all.
Similar themes to TLT: ummm depression, feeling very out of place, memes
Fingersmith - Sarah Waters
Summary: The book The Handmaiden was based on. A girl is sent to become a Lady’s handmaiden to con her out of some money. She falls in love. Many plot twists.
How well it helped me forget: 5/10
Rating explanation: I was sadly still thinking about TLT the whole time I read this. I liked it but I actually like the Handmaiden better because the women spend more time together. Like in this book, I wish that Harrow and Gideon could spend more time together.
Similar themes: wlw enemies to lovers, at some point you realize the main character’s love interest understands what’s going on way more than the main character
Kindred - Octavia Butler
Summary: Very dark book about slave narratives. I cannot make a joke here, but this book is excellent.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: Again, I can’t make a joke. But Octavia Butler is amazing.
Ash - Malinda Lo
Summary: A wlw retelling of Cinderella with fairies and an emphasis on stories
How well it helped me forget:7/10
Rating explanation: This was really quick and fun and I definitely was rooting for the lesbians. Also it was nice it had a happy ending! If you liked Crier’s War (which I did), this was clearly an influence for Nina Varela.
Similar themes: wlw, the magic one + the fighting one dynamic
Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel
Summary: A deadly pandemic wipes out so many people that the world spins into chaos and no one can figure out how to use electricity apparently? But the book is really about fame and wanting to be remembered. Go figure.
How well it helped me forget: -10/10
Rating explanation: Ok that’s not fair. It helped me forget about Gideon and Harrow but it did NOT help me forget about Corona. It was technically good and a lot of people I respect love it, but either because I was still thinking about TLT or because it was about a pandemic, I couldn’t really enjoy it.
Similar themes: post-apocalyptic
Red, White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston
Summary: The Prince of England and The son of the president of the US are enemies. They are definitely enemies.
How well it helped me forget: 6/10
Rating explanation: This was such a fun read that it almost distracted me! Tragically I was in such TLT headspace that I kept pausing to read fanfics where Gideon and Harrow switch eyes.
Similar themes: Enemies to lovers, queer
Troubling Love - Elena Ferrante
Summary: In true Elena Ferrante fashion, an event spurs an Italian woman to do a lot of internal processing and have some flashbacks.
How well it helped me forget: 7/10
Rating explanation: This book was a bit disturbing so it distracted me in that way. Plus I love Elena Ferrante’s writing so much that it felt like coming home to an old friend. Unfortunately for me, this is Elena Ferrante’s least queer book. I know because I have now read them all. Her most queer book, The Lying Life of Adults, would have distracted me better. Also just using this space to tell anyone who’s still reading this (probably no one) to go read My Brilliant Friend (and the corresponding Neopolitan Novels). They are not similar to TLT except they are vaguely queer and about competitive friendships where the girls are obsessed with each other in maybe an unhealthy way. Ok so a bit similar. Genuinely my favorite books ever.
Similar themes: mommy issues, daddy issues, childhood trauma
On This Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous -Ocean Vuong
Summary: A Vietnamese immigrant reflects on his mother, grandmother, and his own life experience in the US. It is poetic and beautiful and will make you cry.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: This book is beautiful. It really changes how you think about the US. Plus really interesting stuff about the western way of telling stories. Cannot recommend it enough, though very little to do with TLT.

**The Priory of the Orange Tree - Samantha Shannon
Summary: OK sorry none of those were good suggestions for what to read after GTN. THIS is what you should read after GTN. It is an incredibly slow burn wlw enemies to lovers. There are dragons, there is magic, there are very cool female characters who I am in love with. This is like Game of Thrones but if it was good, queer, and only one 800 page book.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: Enemies to lovers!!!! What more do I have to say? Also very cool world-building, interesting religious themes.

*The Traitor Baru Cormorant
Summary: Baru is a very smart girl in a colonized island. She decides she will play the game of the colonizers, rise up in their society, and destroy them from within. How is that going, Baru?
How well it helped me forget: 100/10
Rating explanation: This DID make me forget TLT. The only book to truly make me. It made me forget so badly that I wanted my Griddlehark angst BACK. GIVE ME IT BACK I don’t wanna feel sad about Baru anymore. I cannot recommend it more, it is so good, but it did make me ugly cry. It also made me majorly depressed about colonization and the state of the world.

*The Monster Baru Cormorant - Seth Dickinson
Summary: Baru is depressed, has brain damage, throws up a lot, is sad about (redacted), does some things without remembering them because there’s something going on in her brain. Sound familiar? It’s kinda like Harrow the Ninth but more depressing. Oh also a lot of new characters are introduced, old characters come back, a lot of setup for the next book. Euler’s identity shows up out of nowhere?!
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: Again, it made me forget but only because I was so engrossed in this story. Also kinda depressed. This book is kinda depressing. But Baru is very fun to be around, and there are some other great characters. Marry me, Yawa.
Similar themes: again, this is just harrow the ninth on steroids, I am in love with every single woman in this series
*The Tyrant Baru Cormorant - Seth Dickinson
Summary: Baru makes a new bestie, reunites with an old bestie, and discovers a dead bestie in her brain!
How well it helped me forget: 1000/10
Rating explanation: I loved this book. There were a few scenes I reread >four times. This book makes the other books in the series worth it.

*The Ninth House - Leigh Bardugo
Summary: A girl has seen ghosts her whole life and because of that, gets accepted at Yale even though she didn’t finish high school. Yale is like a hotspot for ghosts I guess. It’s dark academia, the girl has a secret, the narrator is pretty funny.
How well it helped me forget: 6/10
Rating explanation: I was trying to get distracted from TLT (and Baru at this point), but it’s hard to forget about Harrow and Gideon in a book called The Ninth House (hello?). It was enjoyable and there was some good humor. I’m curious about the next book in the series when it comes out. It is not wlw unless you squint (which I do).
Similar themes: debatably wlw body posession, nine houses, the ninth one being important, nerd boy who reminds me of pal, woman is revealed to be MUCH older than I originally thought, soul eating, revenants, tombs, necromancy, character named Mercy
The Bone Season - Samantha Shannon
Summary: It’s the future and London is a hotspot for clairvoyants. Paige is a woman who has a special gift and can jump into people’s bodies and possess them briefly (among other things, this is a terrible explanation). Because of this, she is sent to a secret part of the city where clairvoyants are trained to be monster fighters (but also like, kept there in captivity against their will). Unlike every other book on this list I honestly wouldn’t recommend. I know there are other books in the series. If you’ve read on and it gets better let me know. (I know no one has gotten this far reading this but still)
How well it helped me forget: 4/10
Rating explanation: This one was disappointing because I loved Priory of the Orange Tree so much. This book did not distract me from my griddlehark or barhu feels. There’s also a character named Warden so I thought about SexPal a lot.

****The Unspoken Name - A.K. Larkwood
Summary: A girl is in an isolated cult that wants her to die as a sacrifice (sound familiar?). A definitely not evil wizard helps her escape. She meets a cute necromancer who’s also kinda from a cult. She goes on some gay adventures, gets the help of a morally grey older necromancer (who I’m in love with), and fights with her frenemy.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: This is the most similar to TLT on this list. Gideon and Csorwe would be friends. Seriously I recommend this! And the second book comes out soon! And it’s not sad like TLT or Baru!

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue - V. E. Schwab
Summary: Adeline Larue made a deal with a demon in 1714 France, because she wanted to see the world and stuff. It backfires of course. She is immortal but no one remembers her. This causes all sorts of problems and makes her very angsty. The narrative flashes between her going through the years, and her falling in love with the only person who will remember her.
How well it helped me forget: 2/10
Rating explanation: I know people loved this book but I did not. I liked the last 50 pages, I’ll give it that. I wish it was more queer (it was a little queer).
Similar themes: as I said, a little wlw, immortality, demons, I guess falling in love with someone and them not remembering you now that I think about it
Sula - Toni Morrison
Summary: A story about two black women in the 1920’s-1960’s in an Ohio town. It is really great and interesting. It is a book about complicated female friendships (among so many other things that better writers not writing a list no one will read about their TLT feels have outlined) which I love. I was told I should read this after the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante and it did not disappoint. Same vibes.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: This was just a great book. Has really nothing to do with TLT

Summary: Muderbot is an artificial construct who just wants to be left alone to watch tv, damnit! It doesn’t want to interact with humans, and it definitely does not want to talk about feelings. Too bad some humans want to become friends with it.

Rating explanation: These books were so good. They did help me forget! The books are really about having anxiety, making friends, and letting yourself have feelings. Also they are SO FUNNY. Highly recommend. In the way that I love Gideon’s POV, I love Murderbot’s POV

*A Memory Called Empire - Arkady Martine
Summary: Mahit is sent a dangerous, evil empire to be an ambassador. Lots of beautiful writing about colonialism, assimilation, language, and culture.There is gay angst and funny characters. I am once again in love with a morally grey older woman character.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: Yes this book is great and did distract me from gtn (mostly. I did end up reading a great fanfic about wake, g1deon, and pyrrah in the middle but otherwise...). It is part of my holy trilogy of wlw books (this, baru, tlt) that I just read recently. The next book comes out on March 2nd so it will be a good distraction from waiting for Alecto. Like Baru, it made me feel like shit about colonialism but unlike the other two books in my trilogy (redacted but if you’ve read those books you know) didn’t happen. It had a not too sad ending.

*The Luminous Dead - Cailtin Starling 9/10
Summary: A woman needs money and to get the money she goes on a risky cave dive. It turns out the only contact she has with the rest of the world is a woman who’s kinda a dick. It’s 400 pages of creepy cave diving and these two women talking to each other. It’s creepy and uncomfortable and I loved it. I did spend the whole book thinking it would be such a good story podcast.
How well it helped me forget: 10/10
Rating explanation: It did make me forget about tlt! There are some kinda boring parts but it pays off. The relationship between the two main characters is very interesting (though a bit fucked up).

Pride Month Multi-fandom Rec list
Happy Pride month yall! As someone who is asexual I know we don’t get a lot of representation in the public media BUT we do sometimes get some really good representation in fan fiction. So, for Pride month I wanted to share some of my favorite fan fics from multiple fandoms that feature some really good representation of multiple different queer identities. As I am ace, there is probably more ace recs than anything else, but I have tried to include some other identities as well. So without further ado, I present to you a multi-fandom rec list that nobody asked for:

Ok so Sam Wilson is one of my favorite mcu characters and I am soo happy that he finally got his own show with Bucky but this is a fic from before tfatws featuring an ace Sam Wilson and his two supportive boyfriends: Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. This fic is beautifully written and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fic full of all those ace feels.
Dear Granger, Love Pansy by onlykatelyn. 6k words (hp: Pansimone, wlw)
I don’t tend to read a lot of wlw fics but this one is soo cute and angsty. It features a pining!Pansy who writes a series of heartfelt letters to Hermione and has Drarry and Blaron in the background. Its overall a super enjoyable read and even won a Drarry award in 2018!
when i’m set alight by @killproof. 6k words (atla: Zukka, trans-gay Zuko & bi Sokka)
This a cute little Zukka fic from Sokka’s perspective that basically follows the plot of the the second half of book 3 and shows Sokka falling for Zuko. It’s fluffy and adorable and features a trans Zuko but like it’s done really subtly and really well I think (also Aang and Toph are trans as well I believe).

Ok so I am in love with the idea of Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender being ace and this is one of my all time favorite ace Zuko fics. It is sooo soft and features an aromatic Toph Beifong and Sokka being the supportive partner that every ace hopes to find, and anyway its heartbreaking and adorable.

Ok so If you haven’t seen Sense8 stop what your doing right now and go watch it because it is an amazing scifi show with found family and more representation then you could dream of and this fic basically re-tales the last episode from the perspective of one of the characters in a CANON polyamorous relationship.
The Case of the Missing Cockatiel by gryvon. 14k words (Psych: Shassie, bi/pan/omni characters)
So I don’t think either Shawn or Lassiter’s sexualities are explicitly stated in this fic but Shawn is basically a chaotic bi in canon and defiantly not monosexual and Im pretty sure Lassie is bi/pan/omni in this fic as well. Either way its a great case fic featuring our favorite sassy psychic detectives who somehow managed to get real psychic powers this time.
I Want You to Love Me (i want you to leave me) by @miniongrin. 20k works (mcu: Pepperony, ace Tony Stark)
I came across the Asexual Tony Stark tag at some point this year and I got a little obsessed because he is such and interesting character to read as ace. this is probably one of my favorite ace Tony fics featuring Tony trying to figure out and come to terms with his identity and a Avenger field trip to a pride parade. TW: Tony as an ace character participates in sex he’s not totally into because of social expectations and pressures that he feels under.
you belong (to me) by hermionesmydawg . 30k words (mcu: Stucky, gay Buck & bisexual Steve)
So first off this is a NSFW BDSM fic so if that’s not your thing be warned. If you are cool with that though this is one of my favorite Stucky fics featuring a BAMF Natasha Romanov, a supportive Sam Wilson, and as the author puts it an “Aggressively bisexual Steve Rogers.” On top of the BDSM, it is mostly a cute friends-to-lovers fic about Steve, Bucky and their friends trying to live their lives after leaving the Avengers.
Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night in Soho) by @writcraft & @celilasart. 66k words (Harry Potter: Drarry, mlm)
Both Harry and Draco identify as gay in this fic but I love it and wanted to include it in the list because the fic does a fantastic job of exploring queer history in the UK and puts a magic spin on it. It is also just a well written fic featuring loads of other lgbtq+ characters & fluffy romance with a side of smut.

when you met winter, you were walking home from work alone.
you hadn’t wanted to bother your best friend/roommate as he works long hours.
it was dark & you were kinda wary of waking around on your own.
especially when people started cat calling.
you were feeling really uncomfortable until an incredibly striking woman appeared seemingly out of nowhere, swearing & yelling at the cat callers.
she introduced herself to you as winter anderson & offered to walk you home.
you were still wary of letting a stranger walk you home & knew that your best friend would absolutely freak, so you decide to let her walk with you to your friends office.
you talked to her during the walk & admired her unique beauty.
in fact you were sad when you’d reached your friend’s office as it meant that you would have to say goodbye to her.
however, when you did that, she gave you her number.
“I’m free all day tomorrow. If you want to meet me here, we could go & get a drink together or something?”
you accepted her offer & thanked her for walking with you.
winter only left when she saw you enter the building safely.

Hey! I'm fairly new here and I have a pretty uncommon take on Kaylor. But I just wanna start off by saying I try my best to be as supportive of LGBT people as possible and if they're both bisexual, then I would be 100% okay with that! I'm not trying to "defend their heterosexuality" or anything, I think that's really weird
Okay, so my personal theory is that Kaylor did happen, but that Taylor and Karlie are both straight. I know that might sound contradictory, but I say this based on my own personal experiences based on how I am with my best friend. I think Karlie and Taylor's relationship might have been similar in some ways to ours
Right, so I'm straight and I'm not into women in the gay kind of way (but it's completely cool that some girls are), and I have this roommate who's gorgeous. Really gorgeous, she's like a 10/10 "I would sell my kidney to look like you" kind of girl. She's very attractive, she has like tan skin and long legs and gorgeous brown hair and pretty eyes and nice lips and just like… she's just very good looking. I'm definitely jealous of her body, I won't even pretend I'm not 😪 I lowkey hate her because of it (jk)
We've been living together since not long before COVID started, and we're very good friends. There were three of us before, but our other roommate went back home to stay with her parents until in person classes are back on and we agreed to it and worked something out because she has really bad anxiety so we understood her reasoning for it
Anyway so it's just been us two and because we've been at home a lot during this time instead of out for most of the day like before, we've gotten to know each other a lot better and have become a lot closer. We were already friends from before, but now we're like super close besties, we've been hanging out a lot together and playing board games, watching movies, helping each other with essays, just having long conversations about anything and everything, etc
Like it's been so nice having a best friend that I can be this close to now because I haven't had a best friend since I was a kid
So my friend and I were having like a conversation last year about how hard it's been in quarantine not being able to go on dates and how we miss kissing people, and so we decided to just like, make out for fun you know. I mean, there's not really anything that's inherently romantic or sexual about making out, that's just society that says that. But tbh I think making out with your friends if you want to should be normalized, it's fun and it can even be emotional sometimes. It's not that different from hugging people
After a couple of weeks or so, I think we got bored of just making out with each other and decided to like, fully hook up. It started off because we were modelling lingerie for each other for banter and were pretending we were each other's runway judges and then I think we just decided to hook up with each other as like part of the whole "game". I can't remember who initiated it now, I think it might have been me as a joke lol
Like just in a platonic way for fun, as a kind of substitute until we can go back into society
And tbh I always expected hooking up with a woman to be like mediocre and boring and awkward, but although it was a bit hard to get the hang of at first and there was a learning curve, it's actually very enjoyable. Like I was very surprised actually at how hot it can be, I think I can maybe see why bisexual women and lesbians like doing it
Anyway we both liked it and we just carried on hooking up on the regular and it's been like 8 months now and tbh I just think it's very sweet and heartwarming, like it actually makes me feel a little emotional how we're close enough and care about each other enough that we can even help each other out with the physical intimacy side of things so that we don't get sexually frustrated while we're stuck in lockdown
I just think it's really cool and we even sleep in the same bed most of the time now because tbh what's the point in sleeping alone when you can sleep in the same bed as someone else? It's nicer, like you can cuddle and stuff
Anyway, I think that maybe Kaylor's relationship might have been similar. I think they're both straight but they became really close friends in a short space of time, and that their friendship was so intense that it became physical but in a platonic way
I think lesbians and bisexual women are amazing and I have so much respect for you guys for accepting yourselves in a society that tries to erase you, and I think there definitely needs to be more wlw representation on TV and in movies
But at the same time, I would also like there to be more close female friendships like the one that me and my friend have where you can just talk about everything together and do things that society usually reserves for romantic partners, but in a platonic way. Because female friendship is really important and beautiful, whether that's between straight women like me and my friend who I think is probably straight too, or between queer women because one thing I've learnt during my short time on this blog is how queer women can have very close platonic friendships with other queer women too
I think society just has overly strict ideas of "straight" and "gay". Like for some people, they would hear about two women sleeping together and think "Oh that's gay", but not necessarily because straight women can enjoy sleeping with other women too, like it's normal 🤷♀️
I think it's just a result of women being a lot more physically beautiful than men are, like straight women really got the short end of the stick tbh compared to straight men
I also think it's because women are so oversexualized in the media, and obviously straight girls see that too and so we sort of internalize that attraction to women because we're so used to seeing women being presented in a sexual way? Except it's not real attraction with us like how it is for queer girls
Like I'm very much "attracted" to my friend, she's genuinely stunning and just very hot tbh. But I still identify as straight because it's just a case of what I mentioned above, it's a "fake" attraction. And also because men are afraid to compliment other men because it's seen as "gay", but women can be fully confident in their sexuality and still recognize other women's beauty and sex appeal. You see it all the time in instagram comments, and I really love how we're all so supportive of each other like that
Like I can be fully confident in my sexuality and yet still say that some women like my friend are gorgeous as hell and also 100 times better looking than most men I've seen. I'm very much obsessed with some women's appearances but in a platonic way
And I just love the concept of "girl crushes" and I think that from a feminism viewpoint, it's beautiful that we're focusing on other girls and showing love towards other girls too, instead of just to men who, let's be real, don't even fully appreciate it half of the time
I am going to be sad when we all have to return to life as usual and my friend and I won't be able to spend as much time together anymore. I'm dreading it tbh, I don't want it to end yet. And it really sucks that the physical side of our friendship will probably have to stop too once our other roommate comes back because I think she'd definitely misunderstand the situation and think it's something different than it actually is if she ever saw us kissing or something. I really am going to miss it a lot though, I really like how things currently are and it's just really really nice and I don't want it to change :/
Btw I'm sorry if I sounded fetishistic or offensive with any of this, I just get a bit jealous sometimes that you guys get to date girls and we're just stuck with men. Honestly if it wasn't for all of the homophobia and the struggles that you all have to face and the fact that it would feel disrespectful to the LGBT community, I would probably really wish I could change my sexuality to be bisexual or gay instead because I just think women are better. I already know Nate does bro crimes. Reading the Discourse™, my opinion boils down to: there are way more south Asian folks in the UK than this casting job would indicate. But also, I'm glad they started his negative character development arc by being cruel to someone below him on the hierarchy. Since Ted and Beard have encouraged his cruelty on multiple occasions, and ignored his posturing in 2.01, I personally think they have reaped what was sown.

I definitely agree that Ted NEEDED to be imperfect as did his method of teaching, but I don’t know if they’ve dived into the right angles of ‘fixing’ the gaps in his method yet (if Nate is meant to be Villain forever, etc., if the show will blame Nate and not Ted for that character arc)

I JUST FINISHED 2.03 AND I’M SO PROUD OF SAM BUT SO WORRIED THAT HIS GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO RETRACT HIS VISA OR SOMETHING JGSKSKGS. It was nice to see Sam being able to express his politics without being abandoned. It’s such a fantasy world but it’s good to see glimpses of it from the corner of your eye.
It’s not totally beyond belief but it’s certainly very very heartwarming to see even in fiction. Actually if I’m cynical I feel like it’s not THAT unlikely in real life, if the PR department of a company figure they can get media attention and brand loyalty through defying a well-disliked Moral Evil, that might net them more profit than loss.

I didn't read all about the black woman therapist stuff (planning on reading the Discourse after I'm done) but I like Dr. Fieldstone a lot. The way the actor plays her feels so anchored in reality that the exaggerated/TV-sized personalities become cartoonish. I'm also not supposed to eat sugar, so I extra enjoyed the biscuit scene. Yes. Undermine the overly-friendly man who assumes he knows more about your body than you do. Make him question everything.

The backstory did explain a lot about Ted’s character, that much was signposted pretty well through the early show, I’ll give them that.
Apple Product Placement Count: I gave up like three episodes in. I hope all of Apple TV's shows are like this. I hope there's a show set in the '80s with some Apple nerd using insert name of original computer here so 1984 feels less like 1984.

I don't understand how these are like, 35 minutes. SPN finale was 38 minutes and there were 12 montages. How did they play and lose a whole game? Also, is it weird to you when you watch shows with a budget? There are so many speaking roles and extras. Everyone has multiple changes of clothes. Characters kiss sometimes. Wild.
On my Supernatural Defence box because again I believe it’s a more enjoyable/lasting show to me than Ted Lasso (Season 2, at least) but certainly there ARE good Supernatural episodes… I don’t think Ted Lasso needs as much budget as it has, frankly, that money could be better spent elsewhere.

I wonder if binging Season 2 would have changed my opinions of the season honestly. I did enjoy Season 1 thoroughly when I binged it. But there are some weaknesses in Season 2 I don’t think a binge experience would have fixed.

If the protagonist is a demon whose goal is to destroy the veil between worlds and bring hell on earth, I'll root for them the whole time. Then after I'll be like "hey wait a minute, I live there."

I get that a good portion of Sam’s storyline this season was designed to give the white characters a chance to be Good Allies (see: Jamie Tartt esp. but basically all of them). But it’s just sooo. Like. It’s so much more PERSONAL to use his feelings and his body.
I don’t think it’s ‘gullible’ to invest in emotions of characters at all! That’s what fiction is for. Even if they are a demon bent on destroying Earth. I can name anime where you empathise with a protagonist with the same premise. 1) is very valid yeah although at least he’s a consenting adult — the unethical part really is the employment/employee relationship, and the fact Rebecca has power over him. The age/maturity divide makes it unrealistic a relationship would work out generally if it were a real thing but… I don’t know, the way they depicted in the show was almost like ‘true love’ (like lightning, to wit!). Not sure what they’re doing there.
2) and 3) - lkdjflkasjdf if this is in reference to Sam/Rebecca yeah I don’t think they’re going to convince me on Tedbecca where there’s like no existing subtext in the show (to ME, although people disagree) and they’ve just put down this Big Damn Romance with Sam. 4) Well honestly as a Anthony Head / Rupert Supporter (for the fun of it) Nate is really the perfect person to use as a weapon. 5) and 6) yeah it’s bad :/ but again the show SEEMS to be like ‘this is true love unlike her other flings’ so REALLY unsure… ? Fandom/audience reaction is throwing me off my perception of the show in a vaccuum, if that makes sense. 7) Yeah I completely know what you mean, I still love those characters even if they wish they were less trope-y and shallow. And yeah on the Sam issue… well. I don’t know what’s going to happen. But Sam deserves more agency than he has had in the story, historically.

I normally wake up in 30 minutes, but I haven't slept yet. Instead of commenting on All That, I would like to recommend 2 Pesewas. It's a great podcast hosted by two Ghanaian women. They talk about current events and give music recs. I really appreciate their perspectives on everything. Even when I've heard the story before, their angles are always new to me.

Yeah the politics of this were like. Not great, I felt a bit weird about it. I guess ‘billionaires always bad’ not the worst take but ‘minorities with power trying to change the system are secretly part of it’ not the best take. The thing *I* found most egregious was how Ted Lasso was called out for racism by a villian, therefore making his ‘calling out’ invalid and our white hero remains pure. Which it shouldn’t have been!

You're probably right re: the actual depth provided by the show itself. I am just very gay and love both disasters and bikes. To me, she seems like one of those professionally hypercompetent people who prioritizes work because she has control over it. Same reason she writes letters instead of saying goodbye.
Also, she's gay. The "I don't have a boyfriend/husband" -> "is she gay?" rumors -> "gal pal brides only practice wedding" pipeline. I just made it up but it's real.
Ugh I HOPE she’s gay and I hope we get more from her next season but who knows!! Have no idea what they plan on doing with her character. She was really shafted for no reason at the end of Season 2.
I agree that Ted showing up at her place was incredibly boundary-stomping. Based on where he was, his actions make sense, but it doesn’t make them okay.
It’s always particularly egregious when Ted Lasso does something Not Okay and the show kind of excuses it or doesn’t address it, I don’t know I found this really confronting and weird behaviour that he got away with because he’s a white protagonist. Certainly I assume it’s the same here as the UK that following a therapist home is wildly aggressive behaviour you’d be justified calling the police over, although the show definitely was trying to portray it more as a friendship thing (despite the fact he was addressing her mostly as a therapist and not a friend).
Agreed, she largely existed to provide emotional growth for a white character. But like… Women. (I listened to the second NPR interview, but haven't read the first Slate article yet.

Also, thanks for letting me liveblog to you. I didn't realize that Nate specifically was such a tender spot for you; I went into this knowing he leaked something and wanted to figure out why. My innate love of fictional villainy, bastardry, and just being a bit mean on bad days then took over. With that stat that's like 7% of the UK population is Indian, his being the only one on the show is rough.

2020 HIGHLIGHTS ✨
rules: list your top 10 shows (bl or not) you watched in 2020 (doesn’t necessarily have to be shows that came out in 2020 though!)
1. 2GETHER & STILL2GETHER
my first thai drama, and even after all the amazing shows i’ve watched this year, it still has a special place in my heart. watching 2gether was the first time i’d ever seen a queer romcom that just... was. for me, by the simple fact of its being, 2gether was revolutionary. and then still2gether came along and took all the best things about the first season and gave us something beautiful and quiet and lovely and just proved to me, once and for all, that queer happiness doesn’t need to justify its own existence. there can be gay cuddles on the beach for no other reason than that we want them.
2. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
i don’t really have the words for this one but. it makes my heart so very soft.
3. FRIEND ZONE 2: DANGEROUS AREA
season one was mindless fun because everyone was an absolute trashfire and it was hella cathartic to watch, but season 2... wow. i love it for so many reasons: it has messy and authentic queer rep; the characterisation is excellent and i somehow care about all of the characters; amazing women taking centre stage(!); a wlw relationship with lesbian, ace and bipolar rep; multiple interesting plotlines; actual character development; arm weerayut as a chaos gremlin... absolutely one of my favourites of 2020.
4. CHERRY MAGIC
i don’t think i need to explain this one, which is fortunate, because i have no idea how exactly i’d describe the happy-warm-fuzzy-queer-seen-loving-affirmed-profound feeling that rises in my chest whenever i think about it.
5. THE GIFTED: GRADUATION
confession: i liked season 2 more than season 1 (with the exception of the ending, which we don’t talk about). season 1 was enjoyable and interesting, but for me it was season 2 which made me love this series. it did some incredibly interesting and complicated things (even if it didn’t quite nail the landing): it pushed characters to the breaking point and wove so many layers into the story and questioned its own underlying themes. plus, watching it alongside everyone in the fandom made it 200% better. i love all of you and i love this show. egg girl 5eva.
6. THE SHIPPER
i 100% understand why so many people didn’t like this show, or found it problematic, but through some fluke it absolutely worked for me (even the ending). one day i will write an essay explaining my rationale, but for now i’ll just say that it’s one of my favourite shows about adolescence and queerness and identity and compassion and friendship and love that i’ve ever watched.
7. YYY
this series is absolutely off its rocker, and it somehow managed to be one of the most affirming shows i’ve watched. it shouldn’t have worked by it did, and i love it so much.
8. 3 WILL BE FREE
absolutely iconic. amazing plot, stunning visuals, great characters, canon polyamory, jennie being incredible... what a series.
9. MANNER OF DEATH
i love the fact that this show exists; i love the mix of crime and romance; i love maxtul’s acting; i love the central relationship; i love bun. i know we’re not even halfway through yet, but this show is doing something special and i’m so grateful that i get to watch it unfold in real time.
10. CHIHAYAFURU (SEASON 3)
odd one out on my list, but I had to include it. chihayafuru is my all-time favourite anime and it finally got a third season, which is somehow even better than the first two. mashima taichi is one of my favourite characters of all time and his storyline hits me on such a profound level. plus, in the years since i first say this show i’ve fallen in love with classical japanese literature (particularly heian poetry) so i had newfound appreciation for the karuta matches (aka i cried every time someone recited one of my favourite poems)
other favourites: together with me, he’s coming to me, sotus and sotus s, my dear loser: edge of 17, why r u, theory of love, wake up chanee!, gameboys, pearl next door, uta koi (anime), three kingdoms (2010), blood and water (netflix). (itsay would almost certainly be on my list if i’d had time to watch it. same with dark blue kiss, which i had to pause so i could do my assignments)
Final Thoughts
well, it’s been... a year (i don’t think anyone needs a reminder of the details) but writing this post has reminded me of all the amazing shows and people I discovered over the course of it.

5 Contemporary Book Recommendations with WLW relationships!
As promised, this is my list of 5 book recs with FF centered relationships! They’re in no particular order and I hope it’ll motivate you to read some good queer works of art!
1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

--> I read this a few months ago and I remembered myself just putting my Kindle down onto the bed and looked into my imaginary camera man’s face thinking about the ending. I loved everything about this book, the friendship, the romance and the style of writing tied them up nicely. Also, apparently there’s going to be a TV series coming soon in the future so yes I’m 110% confident I’ll be crying with a bag of chips at the end too ;’) Seriously though, do yourself a favor and read this!
2. The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth

--> The Falling in Love Montage is one of favorite FF books because I couldn’t not relate myself with the main character, Saoirse. I loved her humor throughout the book. She came off a little strong at first and it did seem like she was annoying but there’s a reason why she’s so sarcastic and cynical and I loved that the book wasn’t all 100% about the romance (although that is one of the best parts of it). I binged this within two days and I was fairly satisfied at the end and I can’t not recommend this enough for those who want to read a happy queer romance book! ALSO I LOVE THE COVER SO MUCH
3. The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum

--> The Weight of The Stars is mostly a quiet read, and when they say slow-burn, they really mean it. I loved this one a lot even thought it’s mostly a character-driven type of book. This is sort of an enemies-to-lovers type of book, though it went fairly quickly from enemies to friends. This book feels like something you should read slowly, just to savor it all and process everything on the pages.
4. Her Name in The Sky by Kelly Quindlen

Synopsis: Hannah wants to spend her senior year of high school going to football games and Mardi Gras parties with her tight-knit group of friends.

--> Her Name in The Sky is a beautiful coming age story between two girls in a conservative town. I did find this one slightly harder to read because I usually stray away from books like these but I think it’s good to pick something up like this from time to time. Don’t be scared away though because this has a good and happy ending to it.
5. Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner

Synopsis: A showrunner and her assistant give the world something to talk about when they accidentally fuel a ridiculous rumor in this debut romance.
Hollywood powerhouse Jo is photographed making her assistant Emma laugh on the red carpet, and just like that, the tabloids declare them a couple. The so-called scandal couldn't come at a worse time--threatening Emma's promotion and Jo's new movie.
As the gossip spreads, it starts to affect all areas of their lives. Paparazzi are following them outside the office, coworkers are treating them differently, and a "source" is feeding information to the media. But their only comment is "no comment".
With the launch of Jo's film project fast approaching, the two women begin to spend even more time together, getting along famously. Emma seems to have a sixth sense for knowing what Jo needs. And Jo, known for being aloof and outwardly cold, opens up to Emma in a way neither of them expects. --> Another queer rom-com heading your way with this final rec! This was a fun and cute read about the romance between Jo, who is a Chinese Hollywood star and her assistant, Emma. I read this in a book slump and I loved it, its sort of a fake-dating trope like book and I’ve never read something like this outside of fanfiction so it was an enjoyable experience all the way! Also, when the author described Jo at one of the red carpets with her dress with pockets, my mind automatically imagined Gemma Chan from Crazy Rich Asians as her.
