“How Old Are You?”
Ch. 2: Four Days Later Ch. 3: The Beginning of The Date
Warnings: Spoilers for TUA S3
Five Hargreeves x Reader
Word Count: 1,243 (give or take)
a/n: This is a rough draft of a fic I thought of the other day. I wanted to post it and get some hype for when I fully finish it. Also the ending of S3 was bullshit.
“Hey”
Five looked up from his coffee to the girl who had just slid her upper body to rest onto the counter, hair falling as she looked up at him. “Hello” was all Five said but straightened his composure and gave her a smile.
The universe has just been reset. His problems had been solved. He wasn’t about to start off one of his first interactions by being an asshole.
“How old are you?” She asked, squinting her eyes at him a bit as if she could figure it out if she scanned his face more.
Here we go.
“Why do you care?” He replied after a sigh.
“Kind of need to know your age before I can tell you” she continued, sitting up a bit. “Are you at least over 18?”
He paused for a second and thought, while taking her appearance in. She was wearing a simple ripped black jeans, white tank top, and jeans jacket but he was intrigued.
He’d noticed his body had seemed to start aging a bit more over the past three weeks. One of the only positive things to keep him going. It seemed he was at about 18 and he wasn’t about to claim to be younger.
“Yes. I am”
“Great.” She smiled and pushed some of her hair behind her ear. “Well now I won’t be embarrassed that I tried to flirt with an underaged kid”
He perked up at that.
“Go on” he smiled and turned himself in the stool to face her. A small smile trying to spill out as he took another sip of coffee. “Not sure what more I have to say. I notice you in your cute suit when you came in and thought you were interesting, but couldn’t figure out if you were of age.” She explained after giving a shrug. Then leaned in closer to him and continued in a low voice, “my friend bet me $10 and the bill if you were older so I’m feeling pretty lucky”
He chuckled at that which caused her to smile a bit. “Well congratulations” he smiled and patted her hand, leaving his nearby when he placed it back on the counter. He was enjoying his first somewhat romantic interaction with a real woman in a while, and he wasn’t going to let her think otherwise. “Does your friend know about your flirtatious plans with me?” Five asked, quickly noticing the simple hoops and necklace she wore.
“Well me saying you seemed cute was what struck up the conversation, and while they did tease me about doing it they aren’t fully aware of it, no” she answered, keeping eye contact that made something in the pit of his stomach churn. She was very attractive, and admittedly looked nothing like Dolores which was new. “Is that because you were afraid of the possibility you’d be flirting with a high schooler?” Five asked as he finished his coffee. She laughed at that and shook her head a bit before replying, “Yes. Would not like to have that moment drawn out anymore that needed to”
“(Y/N) we need to go soon. Who’s paying?” Someone called over from a table causing the woman infront of Five to look over. He couldn’t help but look her over a bit better before he looked at the table. “You are” she smiled back, watching the friend roll their eyes and groan in defeat as the waitress approached with the bill. “Well, looks like I’m going to have to be going soon” she said as she turned to Five, “are you seeing anyone?”
“Not at all” he smiled
“Mind if I give you my number?”
“I’d love nothing more”
“Great” she bit her lip and grabbed a piece of paper and pen from her pocket. Five watched her write her number and what looked like a small note on it, chuckling when he leaned over to get a look and she moved her body to cover it up.
“Is that going to be it for you?” The waitress asked, pointing to Fives coffee. “Oh, uh, yes thank you” he nodded and pushed it closer to her. It then hit Five that he had no way of paying for it, and the waitress seemed to know it as she walked off eyeing him.
“What’s wrong?” (Y/N) asked, folding up the paper. “Just realized I have no money to pay for this” he sighed quietly, watching out for an employee. “How much is your tab?” “Just this coffee. Probably five dollars with a little tip. Maybe I can find some…” he mumbled the end to himself as he looked around. The sound of (Y/N) rummaging through her pockets followed by her smacking something onto the counter rang through his ears, the latter startling him a bit. “Here. On me” she smiled and slid a $5 bill to him. “You just helped me win a free meal and $10 so I guess it’s the least I could do” she teased at the end, rolling her eyes playfully.
“Thank you (Y/N)” Five hummed, his eyes focusing on her smile for a second until he noticed her bite her lip. He felt another churn in his stomach and met her eyes again, receiving a cocked eyebrow from her. “I’ll pay you back” he added and before she could say it was fine he continued “on our first date”. He let out a cocky smile when she notice her blush lightly and bite her lip again as a small smile spilled from them. “Well alright then…” she trailed off, suddenly realizing she hadn’t gotten his name yet and Five froze for a second. This was a new universe apparently and he could start over. Maybe a new name that drew less questions, but he hadn’t exactly had time to think of a new one.
“I’m Five” he said holding his hand out for her to shake. Her eyebrows creased in confusion and her head tilted to the side a bit as her hand went to shake his. “That’s a cool and different name” she nodded, going silent when Five took her hand and kissed her knuckles gently. “Well aren’t you cute” she hummed teasingly causing Five to chuckle. “Why thank you, you’re quite beautiful yourself” he offered back and gently let her hand go.
“(Y/N)! We got to go” her friend called from the table again. “Okay I’m coming” she said slightly annoyed as she glanced back at them. “Guess I should let you go before your friends get upset with you” Five took the piece of paper and put it in his pocket for when he’s be able to get a phone to call her with. “Yeah” (Y/N) sighed, tucking some of her hair behind her ear. Five took the $5 bill and slid it to her waitress, mumbling a “keep the change”. “Well good bye (Y/N).” He smiled, taking her hand and kissing it again. “Bye Five. Looking forward to hearing from you” she smiled.
Giving each other a quick nod she turned and walked back to her friends. Five watching her the whole time, catching her every time she would glance over. Then right before the group exited she gave him a wave which he returned and then watched her disappear into the night.
Fuck he needed to get a phone, and fast.

FIVE HARGREEVES X FEM!READER PAIRING !
TW: MENTIONS OF BLOOD !
FIVE HARGREEVES MASTERLIST !
A/N: I HAD SO MUCH FUN WRITING THIS, THANK YOU TO THE PERSON WHO REQUESTED THIS !
Tumblr media
Five abruptly stood up from his chair, knife planted on the wooden table in front of him. All eyes were now on him, awaiting his next move. You were standing next to Grace, a robot who has formed a bond with these unusual children. Being one of the caretakers in this home, you've grown attached to these children. Much like the other caretakers, Pogo and Grace.
You didn’t quite know the reason why your age was exactly like theirs, all you knew was that you were forever in debt to Sir. Reginald Hargreeves. Based on what Reginald had told you, someone unknown left a baby on his doorstep.
For months Reginald tried to track down the person that sent you. To no avail, he gave up and made you one of the caretakers instead. You’ve been thankful for Reginald all your life, yet there was no denying he had his bad sides to him. Well for one, you weren’t allowed to eat with the others, only after them. Ben had given you a piece of his meal one time, and of course, you both got in trouble.
Nonetheless, you adored these children, these children have been your somewhat siblings. Ben and Viktor were the closest friends you had, not that you had many of course, only them. Except for Five Hargreeves, you didn’t know why he hated you so much, and so you reciprocated that feeling towards him.
Everyone knew the hatred you had for one another, you both get into arguments about everything. Which you both get into trouble for on a daily basis. Once, you both argued about how salt was made.
“But I’m ready. I’ve been practicing my spatial jumps, just like you said.” Five appeared right next to where the old man sat, Herr Carlson’s voice still ringing loudly throughout the house. You rolled your eyes in annoyance at his words, how could he get so cocky?
“See?” The blue light disappeared from around him in a blink. Reginald looks fed up with his son’s stubbornness about time traveling.
A drink was in Reginald’s hand as he attempted to tune out Five’s words. “A spatial jump is trivial when compared with the unknowns of time travel.”
“One is like sliding along the ice, the other is akin to descending blindly into the depths of the freezing water and reappearing as an acorn.” Your brows furrowed in confusion, everything Reginald had said was going from one ear to the other. You pitied these children with Reginald’s poor parenting choices, he used them as weapons, not loving them as children.
Like Five had read your thoughts, he spoke up. “Well, I don’t get it.”
“Hence the reason you’re not ready.” From the corner of your eye, you could see Viktor shaking his head at Five, to which he, of course, ignored. That was how stubborn Five Hargreeves was.
“I’m not afraid.”
“Fear isn’t the issue.” Reginald quickly replied. “The effects it might have on your body, even on your mind, are far too unpredictable. Now, I forbid you to talk about this anymore.”
By now Five was about to bolt towards the door. “Number Five!” Reginald called out, Five ignored him once more. “Y/n! Chase after Five!” Reginald turned to look at you. Simply giving him a nod as a reply, you chased after the boy.
You quickly went out the door, seeing Five’s back at a small distance, small enough for your hand to reach out for his arm. As you reached for his arm, you got dizzy, a new environment engulfing the both of you. Five glanced at his back, seeing you there, looking like you were about to throw up.
“You stubborn bitch!” Your words seethed with anger as you tried to fix yourself.
“Why’d you come along?” By now people were staring at two children bickering, one had a uniform on while the other had an apron.
“I was sent here!” You argued back. “I wasn’t about to join you willingly!” Five had enough of you, getting ready to blink again. Not caring how he would leave you there if he did blink. As you saw what Five was about to do, you quickly held onto his arm.
A relieved sigh left your lips when you saw how he was still in front of you. Unbeknownst to Five, you were still with him. Your hand now tugging on his sleeve, Five blinks yet another time. This time it was destruction around both of you, rubble everywhere you looked. Fire in some places; smoke permanently in the air.
“Holy shit.” Five was too occupied in regret to care about what you had to say. You both stood in silence, basking in the smokey air, the different atmosphere. For once in Five’s life, he pitied you. He pitied you for being stuck with him when you were only obeying your master’s orders.
Days, months, and years passed by after you both got stuck in the apocalypse. You’d had grown to give Five a chance of redeeming himself, how he treated you when you were children. He did admit that he, himself didn’t know why he was so cruel to you in those years you were in the academy.
“Holy shit, indeed.”
The hatred you once had for each other blossomed into something more romantic. You didn’t know how it did or when it did develop into something more, but you kept each other sane throughout it all. Two children, barely even teenagers survived their way through the apocalypse. You both did everything you could to survive, eating scraps of food, doing anything to keep yourselves from being insane.
You both quickly learned that you were one of the 43 children born on the 12th hour of October 1, 1989, after you made a bowl of soup unintentionally. It explained how you would have things in your room that you didn’t remember having earlier. You and Five experimented with your newfound powers, you could summon close to anything. From weapons to shampoo bottles, it was endless. Yet, of course, your power had a limit, you could only summon things that could be handheld.
Five on the other hand didn’t stop looking for a solution to stop his siblings from dying, to stop the end of the world. A day came that a woman working for The Commission named The Handler, stopped to pay a visit. In her words, they’ve been watching you and Five. She gave a job to both you and Five, knowing your capabilities with your newfound power.
Many more years later, you and Five were the best assassins The Commission had to offer. You never did like the smell or taste of blood. There were many nights when you’d wake up in a cold sweat, Five would be there comforting you.
Five had the agility and strength on the battlefield, while your precision in aiming helped him. He was relieved every time you do missions together, he knew you got his back while he had yours. Of course, with his stubbornness, he refused to have a partner other than you. In his words, “I’d rather do it alone if you’re not with me.”
You got married when you both had spare time from all the missions, running away from The Commission to get eloped. It was arguably the best day in Five’s whole lifetime. Despite being in love with each other, you both still had your differences. Arguing here and there, but never forgetting to not sleep when the other is mad at the other.
When Five told you that you’d be ditching The Commission and go back in time to the other Hargreeves, you were ecstatic. Here you were, arguing with Five yet again about how you were back in time, but in your teenage bodies. The Hargreeves siblings could only watch in complete confusion at the two of you.
“I told you I could help!” Grimacing at your changed voice.
“You already helped!” Five argued back.
“I helped you by giving you a pen, Five! A pen!” You scoffed in disbelief, crossing your arms to your chest.
Five couldn’t help but smile at your state, a thing the others didn’t fail to notice. You fought a smile creeping on your face as Five slithered an arm to your waist. “Please shut up.” You were about to reply when he pressed his lips against yours, a dramatic gasp from Klaus could be heard.
“When did this happen?” The Hargreeves siblings say in sync.

Five Hargreeves was certainly a character.
He was a decently closed off person. He was always thinking... calculating. Always working to be ten steps ahead of everyone and everything.
He didn't enjoy working at the Commission. He'd rather be enjoying life with his family, and enjoying a decent cup of coffee. For a while when he was there, he was always aggravated at someone or something.
That was until you came.
Or well, until he met you. You've been working there for a few months already.
You're the most stunning person he's ever laid his eyes on. To make things better, he was over the moon when you became his assistant.
You are absolutely lovely. Not to mention, incredible at your job.
You're sweet, smart, and extremely sensible.
Five loved your company. He was always in a good mood when you're around. He often dreamt about you, not to be taken out of context.
He dreamt of a life with you, seeing as how you two are so compatible.
To put the cherry on the sundae, you made the best coffee he's ever had. That says a lot coming from him.
"Good morning, Five," your captivating voice fills his office.
"Morning, gorgeous," he smiles.
He watches as your cheeks turn a light shade of pink. "You have got to stop calling me things like that."
"Nonsense, everything I call you is fitting."
He leans back in his seat and watches your movements as you move towards him. He takes in your outfit and curses the unprofessional thoughts that invade his head.
Today you were dressed in a knee length black skirt, a white button up blouse, and a black blazer.
The blouse had a few buttons undone which gave a glorious view of your cleavage when you lowered yourself to pick a fallen paper off the floor.
However, he considered himself a gentleman, so he looked away.
"Anyway, I was just about to go and make your coffee. Would it be troublesome if I joined you today?"
He stands up from the chair and strolls over to you. He brushes a strand of hair that sways in front of your face. "You're always welcome to join me, doll."
"Great! I'll be right back," you beam and leave.
To say you enjoyed having Five as your boss was an understatement. He was always kind to you, never let anyone say a bad word about you.
You wouldn't deny the fact that he was an attractive young man. The way he called you pet names that had your stomach flutter made you have a sliver of hope that he liked you.
True, pure love.
It's something you've always dreamed about. Reading it in books and seeing it in films gave you a longing to have someone to spend your life with.
After you finished preparing the two coffees, you walk back to Five's office. Your heels make a sound with every step you take.
You open the door and send a soft smile to your boss. "Welcome back, beautiful."
You break eye contact and place his beverage in front of him. "Hi."
He leans his head in his hands as he rests his elbows on his desk and admires you. "How did I get so lucky," he mumbles, not meaning for you to hear it.
You chew the inside of your cheek, "Get lucky with what?" you ask quietly.
He blinks. Then blinks again. "How did I get so lucky with you? When did I do something to deserve you?"
"Oh, um, t-that's very sweet of-"
"Have you ever taken into consideration that there's a deeper reason why I act the way I do with you?"
"Well, not exactly..." you trail off.
"Hm. Did you ever cogitate about how maybe there's a more meaningful explanation to how I behave around you? One besides getting entertainment from witnessing you blush?"
Your mouth opens slightly, and you are at a loss for words. After a moment, your eyes meet his intense ones. You take a breath, "Are you saying..."
He nods once, "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying."
"But what about-"
Before you have the chance to finish your sentence, he strides over in front of your chair, puts his hands on each one of the arm rests, and connects his lips softly onto yours.
He felt you freeze for a split second, before you tilted your head upwards to kiss him back easier.
He drowns in the feeling of your lips. The kiss being shared between you two is better than anything he ever could have imagined.
You both taste of coffee, and he loves it.
You pull back and smile shyly as him. He takes a step back and hops onto the desk, so he's now sitting on it and facing you.
He leans his elbows on his knees and clasps his hands together. "I hope after that kiss you'll join me for dinner tomorrow night."
You stand up and smooth your skirt. "I would be delighted."

Five and you had fallen into a comfortable rhythm that one would think the two of you had known each other for years. You started sleeping in the same bed together, getting ready together, eating together, and spending time together. Your routine had started to fall into place.
Somedays Five would ask you to show him your abilities. He was always astounded at how powerful you were. You could use shadows to teleport, physically manifest, store objects, and create weapons. To the regular person, or to anyone like his deceased father, these powers would intimidate them, scare them. But Five wasn’t scared of you,. Slowly you had become his Angel. Five found comfort in you, someone who would stick with him while his family scattered after his sacrifices.
“Come on Angel, I’m taking you out today.”
“Out?” You tilted your head.
“Yes like…a date” he blushed. He was wearing a white button-up shirt and black slacks, the shirt was pressed clean with no wrinkles, and the top 3 buttons were undone.
“Go put on your prettiest dress and some nice shoes.” He kissed the top of your head and watched you run off. Anyone who could see the two of you could see his adoration for you. You lived up to your nickname being a small beacon of light in his dark mind.
Despite your growing "relationship" Five still had his worries. It had been 2 weeks since he met you and he wasn’t any closer to finding who had taken you or figuring out your true identity. He had only know a few things from what you told him.
You had grown up in a lab isolated from everyone. The only way of understanding the outside world was through tv and books that a kind doctor had let you before he met an unfortunate end, not that you knew about that. He also learned about the environment you grew up in by your reactions. You hated loud noises, didn’t understand cultural norms, and feared violence and abuse. Knowing this, Five learned to adjust to your needs. He wanted to take care of you and help you. You had become his new family. Maybe it was obsession but it was feeling like love.
You came bouncing down the steps of the academy in a light blue dress with puffy sleeves and a soft ballerina like skirt. The neckline was square and above your cleavage was a gold heart necklace that Five had bought you on your last outing to the mall.
“Beautiful?” You looked at him and twirled.
“Very beautiful amore.” He kissed your cheek and led you out. As the two of you were about to leave the door opened revealing Viktor.
Viktor was in town having just gotten back from a trip to Italy and decided to stop by the academy.
“Oh Five! Who’s this? I came to check on you since you didn’t answer any of my calls.”
Oops well he wasn’t wrong. Five had ignored all Vitkors calls. It wasn’t out of spite it just felt like every-time he talked to his family he had to put on a front. He didn’t need therapy, didn’t want help, and was fine without them. But talking to them felt almost condescending and a very small part of him still harbored a grudge for them all leaving.
“Uh this is Angel. Klaus brought here and left her here so I’ve been taking care of her. We were just about to go out.”
“Angel!” You pointed to yourself.
“Viktor… Five’s family?”
Five sighed when he looked at you. So innocent , unaware to the trauma in his heart. “Yes this is my brother.”
“Brother.” You tested the word out loud.
“Brother!” You pointed to Five.
“No no not I’m not your brother.” Five shot down. He could see the tears in your eyes forming. “I’m sorry Angel, yes we are… family but I am not your brother okay? I’m your friend.”
Your eyes lit up at that notion. You were aware of what friendship was, there was a nice doctor in the facility who had befriended you and taught you all you knew about human interaction until… he met an unfortunate end, not that you knew about that though.
You jumped into Five wrapping your arms around his neck and burrowing your face in his shoulder.
Brown eyes made contact with green and Five felt uneasy in his brother's judgmental gaze. Before Viktor could get out another word Five blinked the two of you to the car. Standing in the doorway Viktor turned to look back at you guys. He was happy his brother had found someone, but you seemed off. He walked into the parlor and whipped out his phone to send a text to the family group chat. Viktor: Did you know Five got a girlfriend? He said Klaus brought her one day and left her. They just went out all dressed up. Allison: No way Diego: Finally that old timer can get some Lila: Who would let that little gremlin near them? Viktor: @Klaus how did you meet Angel. Klaus: On the street. Everyone mentally cringed at the thought of Klaus picking up a girl "off the street" Klaus: She ran into me and was in bad shape, She's super cute though! I knew she and little Five would get along, I'm going to go visit them tonight. Allison: I want to see her! Im coming too Diego: Me and Lila are coming too. Luther: I guess I'm coming as well. Viktor closed out his phone and began walking around the academy. It hadn't been too long since the world was almost destroyed but this place was riddled with mixed memories of sadness but also happiness in which he and his family had finally come together.
His eyes ran over the painting of Five above the mantle. Over his travels, he often thought about Five, but not at first. Initially, he was overjoyed with traveling, meeting people, and developing a few relationships, but his thoughts began to wander back to Five. The boy who had leaped across time, and had worked his ass off to get back to his family only for them to all leave again. It made him feel guilty every time he talked to Five over the phone only to get short responses. His thoughts went back to reminiscing. Five and Vitkor were closest when they were younger, Viktor even remembers the small crush he had on the boy as a kid. Five was cocky, arrogant, and thought to be better than everyone. But the way he looked at Angel had a softness that could rival a field of flowers. The fact he had let her touch him had given Viktor enough information to assume that you had helped Five for the better. ————————-On your date———————— Five had taken you first to a cute little dinner a bit out of the city. You two sat in a booth on the same side. He was a little confused when you sat next to him but decided against saying anything when you grabbed his hand under the table. The waiter came to take your orders, his name was Alek. He looked at you mostly with a predatory glint in his eyes. "What can I get for the pretty lady here?" He winked at you. You laughed and blushed before saying "Pasta!" Pasta was a favorite of yours. Five and you had made pasta together from scratch one night and it was one of your favorite moments with him. You remembered making the sauce together, him flicking some onto your face before kissing it off with his lips. He had looked so good kneading the dough and showing you how to make the sauce and noodles. It ended happily with you in his bed. Five also knew this was your favorite dish and why. It only made his heart beat for you more. Breaking the waiter's attention off you Five stood up and pushed Aleks chest back. "And I'll have the steak, rare I like it a little bloody, and bring us back a milkshake to share, strawberry." Five sat back while glaring at the waiter. Who did this guy even think he was anyway, he literally saw Five walk in with you. Before he could think anything else, his attention was pulled away when your hand traced his jaw.
"Prickly. Ouch." You ran your finger back and forth over his cheek. Five had been growing some facial hair recently.
"What princess? You don't like?" Five rubbed his face against yours while listening to the melodic laughter erupt from your lips. Alek came back with your meals and milkshake avoiding eye contact with you and Five. Excited for your food you kissed Five's cheek as a way to thank him. The two of you ate your food in comfortable silence and shared the milkshake, occasionally laughing when both of you reached for the straw at the same time.
————————-After your date————————
You and Five had left the dinner with full bellies and even fuller hearts. Hand in hand he led you to the street. "let's talk a walk, we need to digest all that food and I know a park nearby that you'll enjoy." "Okay!" you agreed. You had begun to trust Five with... everything in this short time. He cared for you and showed you how to cook, clean, and use a phone. You were growing to love him, not that you knew what love was. As the two of you came closer to the park your eyes lit up seeing the families and children running around and enjoying the warm summer day. Your expression made Five's heart beat faster. Your innocence and kindness were a nice contrast to his years of killings and suffering. Five led the two of you to a bench that looked out to the grassy playground. You leaned your head on his shoulder and let out a sign. You finally felt at peace. No electric chair, no pointy syringes, just the warmth of Five's hand in yours and the smell of his cologne. Five looked down at you staring out into the park. He felt lucky, how could someone like you just fall into his lap when he needed it most. A thought crossed his mind, what would happen if you remembered who you were, would you leave him? The last time he was in a relationship was with a mannequin. But this was different, you needed him just as much as he needed you. He pushed those thoughts aside when he watched your eyes close. He nudged your side "Come on Angel its been a long day lets get you home." Lazily you both stood up and walked back to the car not dare letting go of each others hands.
————————-At the Academy————————
Five was on high alert as the two of you arrived back at the Academy. The lights were on in the den and he could hear hushed voices as he approached. Opening the door he was met with 3 people, backs turned towards him. He instantly recognized these figures as his siblings, Diego, Luther, and Allison. Peaking around them he saw three more, Viktor, Klaus, and Lila. "Well, this is an unexpected visit," Five stated breaking the uncomfortable silence. The trio looked at each other before Allison spoke up. "We wanted to check up on you, we haven't heard from you in a while." She looked at you behind Five, "Is this uh your girlfriend?" Five's eyes narrowed at Viktor in the corner before sighing. "She's not my girlfriend, this is Angel, I've been taking care of her since Klaus brought her here."
"I'm not Five's friend." You looked up at him, tears forming in your eyes. "No, shit I'm sorry Angel, yes you are my friend you are more than my friend." His expression softened when you wrapped his arms around his neck once again to kiss his cheek. The rest of the superpowered bunch looked in awe. Their normally cocky and arrogant brother hadn't snapped at you or yelled at you. He was gentle and reassuring. Lila was the one to speak up next to Viktor "Wow the old man finally found someone." Ignoring Lila's statement Allison continued, "Wait Klaus brought her here?" Klaus surprisingly not sober, stood up. "Yeah she ran into me all banged up so I brought her to the one place I knew could fix her up. She's got powers like us!" The family turned to you and Five once more expecting you to demonstrate. Hesitating Five looked at you "Okay Angel, show them what we have been practicing." You nodded to Five before raising your hands. In an instant, shadows rose from the ground to the ceiling of the room, suffocating any light that had been previously there. Your hands swirled causing the shadows to form a vortex. You thew your fists down bringing the shadows to your side. One arm lifted up across your chest as you threw it to the opposite area, effectively slicing a potted plant in half. Your eyes glistened with pride as you looked to Five. "I did it!" You jumped into his open arms as Five twirled you around with joy. "I knew you could do it princess!" Luther who was silent in the beginning spoke up next. "So you just found her on the street and she has powers? We don't even know her she could be dangerous then! She could be Commission!" Being number one and the head of the family was difficult for Luther. He was always overprotective of his siblings and made hasty rash decisions believing that he knew what was best for everyone. But Five remembers what happened when Viktor was discovered to have powers and he was hell-bent on not repeating it again. Five paused before turning to you and blinking you upstairs. He had tucked you in and helped you into bed before kissing the corner of your lips. "Good night darling, let me talk to my family for a bit, and I'll join you okay?" "Okay Five, good night" And with one last glance at you he blinked back downstairs. "Trust me Luther I would know if she was commission or not, when she got here she could barely talk and didn't even know her own name!" "I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to figure out where she came from. All I know is that she was brought up in a lab that focused on human experimentation to try to recreate the original 43." "You can't...You honestly can't possibly imagine, the pain she has gone through. And let's not forget what happened the last time you tried to "help" a person who had just gained their powers." Five looked over at Viktor. Viktor couldn't help but look at his lap. "Five is right, let's give her a chance. She is obviously doing well under Five's care and he cares for her back." Five looked appreciative at Viktor although he was the one who originally ratted him and you to the family. "I know you guys haven't heard from me in a while, but trust me I'm doing fine. Let's... go out for breakfast tomorrow. I know a place that we all would like. Meet back here at 9am. I'm going to check on Angel and head to bed." And with that, he disappeared in a flash of blue. The Hagreeves siblings looked at each other in shock. Never had their brother been the first to reach out to spend time, it must be important to him. Diego walked towards and grabbed Lila's hand "Well I'm happy for the guy, it was about time he got some. See you all tomorrow." He waved to his siblings and headed out. The others slowly followed suit each one of them that night laid in bed thinking about the events that had transpired and mentally prepared for a family breakfast the next day.

Five Hargreaves x Female!Reader
Summary: Five was tired and just needed a break and y/n was the only person he wanted a physical contact with
☆I hope you lot like this one. It took me a very long time to come up with.☆
Klaus walked into the room were five was "you look terrible " Klaus said "well I do feel terrible" five said and continue drinking his coffee "i think you need a hug. Come here brother" and Klaus went to hug him "Don't even dare, Klaus i swear" "yes Klaus don't we all know he doesn't like to be touched" Luther commented "well he doesn't mind if it's y/n" Lila teased him.
Five didn't said anything "well he likes her it's obvious at this point" Alison said and Five had enough "can all of you stop I DON'T LIKE HER at least not like that and she's a good person to be around and i prefer her than any of you". and suddenly he teleported himself out of the room.
"What is his problem!?!" Lila said annoyed.
Y/n pov
Y/n was sitting in her room and reading a book. She wasn't really paying attention on what was happening around her. So she didn't hear Five who was calling her name outside of her door until he came in the room.
"Hey Five, is everything okay you don't look very well" She said while he was approaching and sat down next to her on her bed "it has been a long week and I'm just sooo tired, i don't seem to ever get a break."
"Oh five, come here" She said and lets him lay next to her "I know it has been hard, but you can relax for the rest of the day. I promise, no one is going to bother you" he put his head on her shoulder and grabbed her hand and placed on his head for her to play with his hair
They stayed like that for a while until they both fell asleep
3rd person pov:
Klaus was searching for them. When he peeked into y/n's room. He opened the door and found them cuddling each other. He ran out to tell everyone.
They all came to Y/n's room. "see i told you guys" Klaus said "they look so cute" Victor commented . Y/n woke up from the noise "if you wake up Five, you're going to regret it" and with that they all left the room.
"What happened" Five said in a quiet sleeping voice "Nothing to worry about love, go back to sleep".....

Just You and Me
Pairings — Ben Hargreeves x GN!Reader
Summary — Ben didn’t know how long he had left to live, he didn’t get to say everything he wanted to tell you.
Warnings — swearing, mild angst towards the end, mention of death, tell me if I missed any <3
A/N — this is my first official post on tumblr! I’m sorry to the ones who wanted the heavy angst but that’s not until part two (if you want a second part). This is a different writing style than what I’m used to, please give any constructive criticism. Y/n’s pronouns are they/them and Klaus’s pronouns are he/they.
Tumblr media
Being Reginald Hargreeves's child isn't easy. Constant training, missions left and right, it all seems endless and you'd never have a normal childhood. His children have several ways of coping.
Klaus sneaks out of the house to go to parties, intoxicating himself with liquor and weed.
Luther and Allison spend too much time together to forget and run away from responsibilities.
Viktor plays violin because he was convinced he was ordinary, powerless, and different from his siblings. This made him question why Reginald had him to begin with.
Diego distracted himself with anything he could. He would go out and look for conflict just so he could end it and save the day. He needed action, he needed something to keep his mind racing so he won't worry about his home and relationship with his father. He needed praise to feel validated, some would say he has and is experiencing some sort of hero syndrome.
Ben? He loved to paint and sketch. He would lock himself in his room for hours just to be alone to create art. There were papers taped to the wall, canvases hung from several of his works.
"I don't understand the craze with glazed donuts. I really don't." Klaus bit into a fresh jelly donut, rolling his eyes back as he savoured the flavour that exploded into his mouth.
The children escaped again.
They snuck out to have donuts and coffee. It was tradition, and somehow they get away with it. Every 12th of the month at 10:00pm they would leave the house and walk to Griddy's Doughnuts.
"Glazed donuts are amazing. They're simple yet sweet," Ben defended his regular order, taking small bites to properly enjoy the donut while he watched Klaus finish his in two bites.
"That's disgusting." Allison laughed, eying her sibling.
"What's wrong with it?" Klaus licked their fingers, downing their cup of coffee all in one. "It's less messy that way."
"No, it isn't!"
Ben began to slowly drown out the sounds of his siblings arguing. His attention made its way across the cafe, his gaze falling upon a teenager who sat alone at a booth. He could've sworn he's seen them before, he could've sworn they met, but at the same time, he knew for a fact that this was his first time laying his eyes on you.
"..Ben? Ben? Earth to Benerrino!" Klaus waved their hand in front of him and he finally snapped out of it when you looked back at him.
"Sorry?" Ben blinked a few times, looking at his sibling as he held his cup of tea in both his hands.
Klaus raised an eyebrow, looking back to see what Ben had been staring at. A smile was brought to his face when he turned back to look at Ben, eyes going wide. "Ben! You think that person is cute, right?"
"Shh! Shh!" Ben clasped a hand over their mouth, glancing over at the teenager to see if they heard.
And sure enough, you did.
"I'm flattered." You said, earning the attention of all six Hargreeves siblings. "Thanks, Ben."
Number Six seemed to stop working for a moment. His eyes widened as he stared at you in shock, face covered with a cherry red hue. "Y-Yeah. Yeah, you— yeah." He smiled and nodded, sipping from his cup as he turned away.
"Bennerino~" Klaus gave his brother a wink, sticking his tongue out as he paid for his snacks.
"Klaus!" Ben whisper-shouted, giving them a death glare as he finished his cup of tea. One after the other, each sibling finished, paid, and walked back home.
Ben couldn't help but spare a glance, looking back at you as he and his siblings exited the shop.
When he looked back at the path in front of him, he caught Klaus's stare in his peripheral vision. He gave them a scoff, rolling his eyes as he stuffed his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket, darting away before Klaus could annoy him with their bickering.
— ( ☂︎ ) —
Being Reginald Hargreeves's child isn't easy. Constant training, missions left and right, it all seems endless and you'd never have a normal childhood. His children have several ways of coping.
Klaus sneaks out of the house and attends teenage parties while doping and drinking himself silly.
Allison and Luther spend inordinate amounts of time together letting their responsibilities slip their minds.
Viktor plays the violin because he believes he is unexceptional, weak, and distinct from his siblings. He knows he's different and every day he asks himself why Reginald chose to keep him, or why Reginald even took him in the first place if all Viktor ever got was neglect.
Diego tries to divert his attention from his family life in every way he can. He needs action to keep his mind active. He needs validation to keep going. He needs to be seen as a hero.
Ben creates art.
Ever since that day at the cafe, you didn’t leave his mind. He dedicated his free time to a new work of art. The inspiration was you.
His delicate fingers held the piece of charcoal in a gentle, yet firm grip. With every stroke, a distinct mark was left behind. He made each line unique from the one previously. His movements were smooth, not a muscle was tensed.
When he finished, he took a deep breath. The fresh oxygen from his open window filled his lungs before escaping his lips, dusting off the excess charcoal on the page. Ben smiled at his piece, gliding the tip of his index finger along the jawline of the teenager on the paper.
It was you, the one from the cafe.
He looked out the window. He watched as the sun painted the molten sky with various reds and oranges along with dashes of purple and pink. It was a work of art within itself.
He glanced over to the clock on his wall, then back out the window. He carefully rolled the drawing in his hands, stepping outside of the window and using his tentacles to make his way down onto the grass.
He looked behind himself, searching for any sign of life through the windows of the Hargreeves Mansion. When it was clear, he ran out of the gate.
Ben sat at Griddy's Doughnuts, a cup of tea placed in both his hands while a glazed donut sat in front of him on a ceramic plate.
"You're alone?"
Ben snapped out of his thoughts, looking at the owner of the voice.
"Yeah," he responded.
Agnus knew the Hargeeeves siblings would always come in packs, she found it strange how there was only one of them at the counter. "Are you okay? Did something happen?"
Ben smiled. "Nothing bad, no. Thank you for asking, though." He hadn't remembered the last time someone asked him if he was okay and meant it. The question was simple, but hearing the sincerity behind it was enough to make him smile.
He sat there and waited. The drawing was by the plate, and he began to ponder; he began to overthink. He hadn't talked to you and he already drew you. He didn't have bad intentions, but he didn't want it to come off as creepy. He began to have second thoughts, like he was doing something wrong.
Ben finished up his tea and donut. He grabbed the drawing and placed some coins on the table before leaving the cafe. His head was down, almost ashamed even though he did nothing wrong. He pushed the door open and collided with someone.
He gasped and dropped the piece of paper and watched it fly away in the subtle breeze. Before he got to react, someone grabbed it. He looked at the person and froze.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going." You sheepishly smiled. The paper was unrolled you looked at it.
"I am so sorry." Ben bowed down to show respect. "I know it might be creepy but I promise I'm not a creep. I mean no harm, I just- I just thought that you were—"
"Cute?" You recalled what Klaus called you.
Ben stood up straight, looking at you with cherry-stained cheeks. He said nothing, not denying nor confirming the assumption.
"That's what your brother said last week." You scanned the piece of art, a 'wow' falling under your breath before you handed it back. "You're talented. I can't even draw a straight stick figure. I envy you."
"You? You envy... me?"
"Yes."
"You don't think I was being creepy?"
"No, not at all."
"Are you sure?"
"Stop overthinking it, Ben." You took a step towards the door of the cafe. "I hope to see you around more often."
Ben stilled as the corners of his lips formed a smile. He nodded, then his expression dropped, watching you walk into the shop. "Wait! What's your—"
"Y/n."
Ben paused, "Y/n?"
"That's my name."
The smile returned to his face, "thank you."
You waved, finally walking through the doors and sitting at his usual spot by the window. You looked at Ben, an instant smile lit up your face when he looked back. You held a hand up and waved, earning a rather excited wave back. You began to wonder if you would ever get a moment with Ben, even if it was just to sit together and have coffee; as friends. "There's nothing wrong with having a glazed donut."
— ( ☂︎ ) —
"See, Klaus? Even Y/n agrees that glazed donuts are amazing." Ben defended his favourite treat, biting out of the freshly glazed donut.
"I said there's nothing wrong with a glazed donut. I didn't say they were amazing." It didn't take long for you to get along with the Hargreeves siblings. Especially when Klaus kept nagging Ben to invite you.
"Ha! Y/n agrees with me!" Klaus slammed his hand against the table.
"Hey, woah, woah. I didn't say that either!" You laughed along with the others, heart filled with joy and happiness. You didn’t remember the last time you hung out with other teenagers and felt like you belonged.
"Guys, we should head out." Allison said, "it's getting late. Ben hurry up, it's two more bites. Today is on me." She pulled her wallet out.
"I can pay for my own. Thank you, though, Allison." You only had a chocolate donut. You were smart enough not to have caffeine pumping in your veins before bed.
"You guys can go out, I'll meet you there." Ben looked at you, then Klaus. Klaus smirked back, to the point where their ears began to lift.
You thought you were included in the 'you guys', so you shuffled around to get your wallet back in your pocket. Ben noticed this and quickly took your wrist.
"Not you." He spoke firmer than he intended, "please." His voice softened as he let go of your wrist, bashfully looking at the bottom of his glass while he took another bite of his donut.
You locked eyes with him, then you fell silent, sitting back down with cheeks tinted pink. “Why me?”
Ben turned away again, it was just his timid nature, this boy can never keep eye contact for too long without freaking out. “I was wondering… maybe on Friday we could meet up again?”
“This Friday? I thought Luther had something important coming up. His personal training with your father? That poor guy is going to overwork himself all day…” you looked out the window to look at the Umbrella Academy’s number one. “So we’re just gonna leave him out? If he finds out he’ll be heartbroken.”
“No, uhm…” Ben tapped the edge of his cup. “I was actually hoping it would be us? Just you and me.”
“Just you and me?” Your eyes seemed to light up the second he spoke. The most foolish smile crawled onto your face as you nodded. “Yeah.”
“Yes?”
“Yes.” You nodded, “I would love that. Just you and me.”
Ben’s heart beat out of his chest. Oh, he was such a loser in love. He nodded frantically, finishing the rest of his donut quickly. He covered his mouth as he chewed, shy and polite. He then made his way outside.
“Ready?” Allison motioned for the others to follow her as Luther walked by her side, leading the siblings back to the mansion.
“I’ll see you! Friday at noon!” Ben walked with his siblings with a hand in his pocket, the other one waving goodbye.
“Friday! Noon!” You carried through with his energy and waved back. Then you turned on your heel and went home.
— ( ☂︎ ) —
“You’re not going to get in trouble, will you?” Your cup of coffee was finished about an hour ago. An hour ago was also when you and Ben agreed to go back home and call it a day. You didn’t even recall how the conversation kept going, but it did.
“I should be fine,” Ben glanced at the clock, then back at his empty plate that once had two donuts on it. His signature glazed donut and your vanilla-sprinkled one. You got a different donut each time you came. “Thank you for coming with me today.” Words couldn’t express his gratitude, “I’m not saying that I don’t like coming here with my siblings, it’s just… good to have a real friend.”
Your heart warmed at his words, “thank you for asking me out, Ben.” You placed a hand atop his. “I really enjoyed spending time together; just you and me.”
“Do you think…” he began, “..we can see each other again? Only if you want to, that is. There’s no shame in rejecting, I don’t want you to feel obliged to say yes or anything—“
“Yes.” You said with confidence, laughing at the way he began to ramble. “I’d love to, Ben.” You gently gripped his hand, “the second date is always better than the first.”
“Yeah,” he nodded, mind empty. All he focused on was the way you hand your hand placed on his. As seconds passed, the words finally registered. “Wait, second date? This— th-this was a date?”
You instantly took your hand away, “that was my impression. I’m so sorry if I assumed wrong. I should’ve asked.” You felt foolish. You felt as though you were making bold assumptions and you read him wrong. Your ego was making the decisions. “That’s embarrassing.” You laughed it off.
“No, no! There’s nothing wrong with this being a date!” Ben grabbed both of your hands, holding them with a delicate grip. “It actually makes all of this ten times better.”
“Really?” A wave of relief washed over you as you emitted a soft sigh. “I don’t want you to feel like you have to lie to spare my feelings. I was getting a bit too ahead of myself.”
“I’m not lying,” he brushed his thumb over the back of your hand. “I mean every word.”
Butterflies swarmed in your stomach. Never once has anyone made you feel this weak in the knees. “Thank you, Ben.”
“Just know that I would never lie to you. Ever,” he moved his hand, linking his pinky with yours as if he was a seven-year-old boy. “Promise.”
The gesture was so small, so childish, “alright, then.” But this pinky promise held a special place in your heart. “Promise.”
— ( ☂︎ ) —
“Can we just stay like this?” He sat beside you on top of a building with the city beneath you. “It’s so much better up here.”
“Don’t you have a training session with your father?” You looked at him, “and you can’t miss it because that’s how you’re supposed to spend the rest of your day?”
Ben didn’t return your gaze, he just looked down at his lap with his legs swinging back and forth on the edge, “..yeah.”
“And if you don’t show up, you’ll get in trouble and he’ll get mad.”
“I know,” his voice was barely over a whisper.
“So… you should go back. I don’t want you to get in trouble with your father.” You carefully took his face in your hand, tipping his head up to look at you. “It’s okay, Ben. I’ll be fine. You can go.”
“It’s just—“ Ben sighed, shuffling around to get comfortable now that he was facing you. “I don’t want to go. If I do, he’s going to make me kill again.”
“Kill?”
He nodded, “and I don’t want to keep doing it.”
You were at loss for words. You couldn’t tell him to ‘not go’, it was his father and he couldn’t just avoid him. You noticed how he began to tremble, his hands shook along with his quivering lip. “Ben.” You held his hands, “you can drop by my place after.”
“It’s going to be late. Your parents won’t notice?” His voice rose in volume, “I-I don’t want to get you in trouble. It’s an inconvenience. It’s fine, I’ll just see you next week. It’s fine, I’ll be fine.”
“I’ll keep my window open for you.”
“No, no. You don’t have to do that. I told you, I’ll be fine.”
“If you say so,” you rubbed your thumb over the top of his hand. “I’m still going to keep it open. Just in case.”
How did he get so lucky? If someone told him one month ago that he’d make a friend that cared about him as a person rather than a member of the Umbrella Academy, he wouldn’t believe you.
“Okay,” he shot you a smile.
That smile never failed to warm your heart. “Now get us down, Benny Boy.”
He slithered his arm around your waist and you secured your hands on his shoulders. Tentacles sprouted from his back and he safely took you down the building.
“I’ve got you,” he noticed how you held onto him with a deathly grip. “I’m not gonna let you go.”
“You better not,” you laughed, burying your face into the crook of his neck with closed eyes. You took a deep breath, taking in the comforting scent that lingered in his skin and clothing.
When he made it to the ground, he ran his fingers through your hair. “You can let go now.”
You reopened your eyes, looking at the boy. The proximity was close, breathtaking. “What if I don’t want to?” You thought out loud, realizing only when his tanned cheeks tinted red.
“Then that wouldn’t be so bad, would it?” You could feel his subtle breath on your skin.
You moved a hand from his shoulder to his chest, “your heart is beating a mile a minute.” You teased.
“Who’s fault is that?” He teased you back, leaning in closer. His eyes fixated on your lips for no more than a ninth of a second before looking back at your eyes.
“Mine,” you admitted with no shame. With every passing second, Ben inched closer to your face. You looked at his lips, then his eyes as you leaned closer to him.
“I’ve never done this before,” he whispered.
“Neither have I.” You matched his tone..
“May I?”
“May you, what?” You teased him once again.
Ben paused, his breath trembled and you felt it. “May I kiss you?”
“You may.”
“Ben!” The boy was taken away from your grasp. “Dad’s been looking for you! He’s not in the best mood today, Benerrino. You know to never keep the old man waiting!”
You couldn’t even say anything, Klaus had already run off with their brother. The only thing you got was Ben’s glance back. He looked as if he was apologizing with his eyes, a deep frown engraved on his face.
“Klaus!” Ben ripped his wrist out of their grip.
“You know how strict dad is. I don’t want him to get mad at you.” He looked back, he saw you turn and walk away. “Oh shit.” He whispered under his breath, “Ben, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine.” His tone was sharp enough to kill. “Let’s just go see dad.”
— ( ☂︎ ) —
You haven’t left your room since you arrived home. You were still salty about the episode earlier with Ben and Klaus. You kept your word and left the window open in case Ben dropped by, but time was ticking.
11:11pm.
Curfew at the Umbrella Academy was two hours ago, so you assumed that Ben wasn’t coming. You swung your legs off the edge of your bed and slowly made your way towards the window.
“Y/n?”
“Ben?” You called out, moving your curtains out of the way. “Holy shit,” you held your hand out and helped him inside. “Careful, don’t sit on the bed.” You kept your voice in a low whisper.
He didn’t speak, he only nodded.
You rushed out of your room to grab a cloth then pulled the wooden chair from your desk when you got back. “Sit here, it’s okay. Just relax.”
“How do you expect me to relax?” His voice instantly broke as tears pooled at the bottom of his eyes. “I’ve been trying to relax, for- for the past two hours!” He was careful not to raise his voice too much.
“Are you hurt?“ You used the cloth to wipe the blood off his hands.
He shook his head.
“Did he hurt you?”
“Not physically.”
“Are you… okay?”
He shook his head, “not emotionally.”
Silence lingered in the air as you washed the blood off his skin. When you finished with his hands you went to his neck, then his face. You stopped for a moment, taking this time to cup his cheek. Ben leaned into your touch, shutting his eyes and placed a hand on top of yours. Tears silently trickled down his cheeks as he took in the comfort of your hand. You began to gently wipe the damp cloth over his blood-stained cheeks.
“Do you think I’m a monster?” He looked at you.
“No,” you stated with confidence, “no you’re not. You’re no monster. It’s not your fault. Your dad made you do it, you didn’t have a choice.” You reassured him the best you could. You’re okay now. You’re safe here.” You whispered sweet affirmations. “Thank you for choosing me, tonight.” When you finished, you placed the cloth on your desk. “I’m glad that you’re here with me, Ben.”
“Me too,” he moved away from your hand and stood up. His eyes didn’t leave yours, not once. “Can I have a hug?” A sob slipped past his lips with his words. You didn’t say anything, instantly leaning into his chest and wrapping your arms around him. He began to cry as he returned the embrace, crumpling your shirt up in his hands.
“I’m here, Ben. I’m not going anywhere.”
“You make me feel safe.” He whispered into your hair, “when I’m with you, the rest of the world melts away. Like nothing else matters but you and me.”
Those butterflies came back. They fluttered in your tummy with excitement and wonder.
“Hey, Y/n?”
“Yes?” You pulled away from the embrace but kept your hands on either side of Ben’s body. You didn’t want to let go of him, not yet.
“I’m really happy that you’re in my life.” He brushed a few strands of hair out of your face. “Being with you makes me feel stronger, and I wish you could see yourself the way I do. Because I can’t think of any word that comes close to the way you make me feel.”
You were at loss for words. You wanted nothing more than to hold him in your arms and keep him safe, away from his stupid excuse for a father. “I don’t know what to say.”
“It’s okay,” his hand rubbed your side. “You don’t have to say anything.” He looked at your lips, “you’re perfect.” His stare dallied before darting up into your eyes. “May I?”
“Yes,” you closed the gap, wrapping your arms around his neck as he engulfed your body with ease. In that moment, it was as if the world stopped spinning; like nothing else in the world mattered.
The kiss lingered, and Ben began to move his lips, slowly running his hands down your body. He held your hips in a soft grasp. Then he finally parted.
“Ben…” his name rolled off your tongue like a melody. You leaned in for another kiss, pushing him down on your mattress. He didn’t have time to react, toppling over with a giggle. “Please stay,” you gasped for air.
“Stay?” He kicked his shoes off and got comfortable on the bed, “are you sure about this?”
“Yes,” you gave him an extra pillow and laid next to him. “I want you to stay.” You snuggled up next to him.
“Hey, Y/n?”
“Mhm?”
“Can I be your boyfriend?”
Your smile lit up the dim room, “yes.” You gave him one last peck on the lips before closing your eyes to fall asleep. There was nothing more comforting than the feeling of his arms around your body, his hand running through your hair as you fall asleep.
But the next day when you awoke, he was gone.
— ( ☂︎ ) —
“Will you stay this time?” You asked for the millionth time as you laid on your boyfriend’s chest, taking a slow and deep breath as you shuffled around to get comfortable. “I want to wake up beside you this time.” The sleepiness was slowly taking over you.
“I’m sorry I didn’t stay,” Ben whispered, “I couldn’t risk my dad catching me out. It was only recently he stopped putting cameras in our rooms, if even one of us gets caught, all of us are busted.” He was truly sorry. He wanted to wake up by your side. He wanted to wake up with you in his arms. But he couldn’t risk getting his siblings in trouble.
“Cameras in your room?” Your voice was groggy, you didn’t even pay attention to what he said, you stopped processing what he said after ‘cameras in our rooms’. “That’s messed up,” your words were slurring together.
“Sleepyhead, just close your eyes and rest. You need it.”
“Mnn…”
The sound of your gentle snores filled the darkened room. He fixed his position, looking down at you while keeping you secure in his arms. His lips formed a frown as he moved bits of your hair out of your face. He planted a delicate kiss on your forehead, sighing deeply, “God, I love you…” if he got caught, his father would be furious. He knows that he’d be forbidden from seeing you, and he didn’t want to risk it. He got himself in a mess, a lovely, wonderful mess. Things would be so much easier if he didn’t love you, but he didn’t regret a single thing. He’d choose you over his father in a heartbeat.
12:00am.
He needed to get home, so he did. He carefully placed you down on the bed, properly bringing your blanket to your chin. “I’m sorry, Sweetheart.” He whispered, pressing another kiss on your forehead. “I have to go.” He spoke as though you were awake though you were fast asleep. He walked towards the window, watching as you got comfortable in your slumber. He stood by the window and stared at you. He didn’t move, he didn’t turn away, he just stared at you with pure love. You were the first to treat him right, the first to take care of him out of the kindness of your own heart, the first to truly love him, yet he always left before the morning. Not once have you woken up to him by your side. Did he deserve you.

“Ben?” You approached him and he and his siblings walked out of Griddy’s Doughnuts. It was their monthly sneak-out plan and for the first time in seven months, you didn’t tag along. “Sorry to bother you, I was going to the library, and… this was close by.”
“Going to the library? This late at night?” His eyes went wide, “it’s dangerous. You don’t know what kind of creeps are out there.”
“I’m fine, Ben. Really, I–”
“Ben, let’s go,” Luther called out.
“I need to go.” He made his way past you, but you grabbed his wrist. He turned to face you, effortlessly prying himself from your grasp.
“Can we go out on Sunday? Nothing fancy, just here.” You looked at the donut shop. “Griddy’s Doughnuts. You get the glazed donut and I’ll get the one with sprinkles?”
He squinted as he listened to you. You were being oddly specific, and it worried him. “No, sorry, I’m busy this Sunday.”
“How about Tuesday?”
“Ben! Let’s go!” Allison shouted.
“I need to go,” Ben took a few steps away from you. “I’m sorry. I’ll see you around.”
“I’ll see you–” midsentence and he was running off. “...around.” You ended up going on Wednesday, but not to Griddy’s Doughnuts. Instead you and Ben crashed in your room for the day. The second he stepped through the front door, the atmosphere changed. You didn’t know what it is, but it was heavier. It was mildly uncomfortable and you could tell Ben felt it too.
“You should go home.” Now you were laying on his chest like you always did whenever he came. You two snuggled up with each other whenever the sun began to set, that hasn’t changed. But today is different: the elephant in the room didn’t want to leave.
“It’s nine. A little early for me to leave, don’t you think?” He muttered into your hair. “Let me stay.” He remembered how you used to always ask him to stay, and now you were the one pushing him away.
You shrugged, “I’m feeling tired. I’m going to sleep early tonight.”
“I’ll stay until you fall asleep,” he brushed the back of his hand on your cheek before holding it.
“You never stay, anyways. It’s fine. Just go.” You moved away from his touch.
That was a first.
“What’s wrong?” Something was in the air before, he knew something was wrong, he knew you knew something was wrong. He acted on it first.
“Nothing.” You dismissed it.
“Y/n, you know you can talk to me.”
You shook your head, pursing your lips as you felt the tears begin to form in your eyes. “We barely see each other anymore,” you muttered, “when we do it’s… awkward. It’s not the same as before.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry.” He shut his eyes, sighing heavily. “I should’ve talked to you earlier. Shutting you out probably wasn’t the best idea.”
“What’s going on, Benny Boy?”
“Us being together… is risky. Especially with my strict dad and all. I feel like I should’ve thought about that before foolishly asking you out.” He couldn’t bear to look at you.
“What are you…” your voice trailed off into utter silence. You looked at him, desperately wanting to meet his gaze. “...what are you implying?” The second those words left your mouth, you wished they didn’t.
“I love you,” Ben began. “I may be seventeen, I may be young, and people say kids like us don’t know what love is. But I know that I really, really love you. You’re the first to see me as who I am. Not just some boy with powers, not the boy in the Umbrella Academy, not Number Six, but you see me as Ben.” He glanced down at you for a moment, but he couldn’t stand that mere second of your pained expression. “I love you, Y/n,” he caressed your arm with his hand, “but if my dad finds out we’re together, he’ll stop us from seeing each other. I’m mistreating you, we don’t see each other as often as we used to because I’m playing it safe. It’s unfair, and you deserve better.”
“Ben, I can wait. I can wait as long as I need to. It’s okay. I don’t mind, I know you’re busy,” you sat up straight, hand gripping his bicep. “I can wait.”
“I don’t want to do this, but it’s better for us to take a break.” His heart sank the moment he finished, finally looking at you. “I’ll come back. When I’m eighteen I can get a bit more freedom. Then we can start seeing each other again.”
You turned away when he looked at you, shaking your head slowly as tears fell from your eyes. You didn’t want this, but you were mature enough to know that he was right. He was in the Umbrella Academy, he has powers, and he isn’t a normal kid. He’s different and you recognized that. You just wished that things were different.
“So… until you’re eighteen, we can’t talk?”
“I didn’t say that,” Ben reassured you, keeping you close. He didn’t want to let go. He felt that if he did, then he’d lose you for good. “I’ll still come by and visit. You can come to Griddy’s Doughnuts with me and my siblings. I’m still going to be here.” He pulled you for a quick yet passionate kiss. “I’m still going to be here, I promise.”
“You better be,” you laughed off your sadness, wiping the tears off your cheeks. “Just stay until I fall asleep. You can go home after.” You closed your eyes and snuggled up to his body warmth. “I love you, Ben.”
“I love you too,” he took slow deep breaths, adjusting his posture for better comfort as he held you.
— ( ☂︎ ) —
You haven’t seen him in two weeks. Not a word from Ben. You kept your window ajar and the lock flipped up. You gave him opportunities to see you, but he hadn’t taken any of them yet. You tried to understand, but you didn’t expect any of this to happen. He promised he’d still be there, but you hadn’t seen him. The two weeks stretched out to three and three turned into four. You showed up at Griddy’s Doughnuts from time to time, and there was no sign of him. You gave up. You didn’t want to wait any longer. He left and didn’t have the heart to properly break it off so instead, he gave you false hope.
That was until October 1st rolled around. You spent the day off at home alone. Your parents were working, busy with their jobs. It was like any regular old day.
Or so you thought.
The knock from your front door bounced off the walls. This day was the last and only day that you had hopes for.
Today was the day Ben turned eighteen.
You rushed to the front door, swinging it open with a smile, “hey, Klaus! Happy birthday!” You stepped out and looked left and right. “Is Ben with you?”
“Not exactly,” Klaus rocked back and forth between his heels and toes. “Can I come in?”
“Yes, of course. Come on.” You ushered them inside, “where’s Ben?”
“Uh…” he took a seat on the couch, motioning for you to sit across from him. “It’s kind of complicated.” He took a heavy breath, scratching the back of his neck as he tried to find his words.
“Just spit it out already,” Ben said, leaning against the wall behind you.
Klaus glared at him.
“Something wrong?” You noticed his facial expression change, looking behind you before back at them.
“No, no, it’s all good. All good,” he leaned back, sighing once more. The atmosphere was dense, he kept looking back and forth between you two.
“Klaus!” Ben was getting impatient.
“Okay! Okay!” Klaus sat up straight then leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. “Ben wanted to tell you that he’s sorry that he didn’t spend as much time with you as he promised.”
“Ben said that?” You leaned back, arms crossed over your chest. “Why couldn’t he tell me himself? Why did he send you?”
Klaus paused, mouth agape before pursing their lips. “He’s dead.”
He said that so nonchalantly that it didn’t process, “dead?” You scanned your living room, waiting for Ben to pop out from somewhere and tell you that it was some silly prank. “Funny, Klaus. Where is he?”
“No, Y/n you don’t understand.” His head fell into his hands. “Ben died on a mission two weeks ago.” He looked at the ghost that stood behind you, “and he’s sorry. He’s sorry since… y’know, he can’t be here with you. I don’t know why he’s so apologetic, it’s not his fault he died or anything.”
All of this was still too much to process. You were in shock, in heavy denial. “Ben?” You looked at Klaus as if they were a massive liar. “Like… Ben Hargreeves. He died? Two weeks ago?”
“Yeah,” they rubbed their hands together, frowning. “I’m sorry you found out this way.”
“No,” your voice instantly broke and tears spilled out of your eyes as if they were on command. You wiped the oncoming them away with the sleeves of your sweater. You tried to stop them but they kept going. The ache in your heart never stopped, it still hasn’t recovered from the last time you saw him. Hearing this news and knowing you wouldn’t see him again was heart-rending. “No, no, no. Klaus, you’re playing a sick game. You’re getting too good at this shit.” You laughed, leaning back on the couch with your sleeved hand over your eyes. “Please stop it, you little shit. This isn’t funny.”
“I’m not lying! Do you think I’d lie about something like this? My brother’s death? Y/n… it hurts me as much as it hurts you. Ben is gone.” Klaus stayed strong for you, he didn’t show signs of weakness or sorrow. They already spent all of that within the first week, they didn’t need to cry again.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” You buried your head in your hands, biting on your bottom lip to ease the pain and keep it together. “You've got to be fucking kidding me.”
Ben could see it. He could see how hard you tried to keep it in. He could hear the heartbreak in your voice and the pain in your body language. He moved from behind you to in front of you. He wanted all of this to stop, he wanted your suffering to end. Watching you lament felt like he was shot through the heart.
“I’m sorry,” Ben said, “I really am.” His voice quavered, “I wish things were different, but I did what I thought I had to do.” He reached out to touch your cheek, only for his hand to glow blue as it passed right through you. “If you could see yourself the way I do, then you’d know how much I love you. You’d know how sorry I am, you’d know how much I m-miss you.” He reached out again, but the same thing happened. “I’d do anything to hold you one last time.” He couldn’t bear to speak anymore, his voice cracked and he had to wipe the tears from his eyes. “You don’t deserve any of this.” But he kept talking. He hoped that a miracle would happen, he wanted you to hear him. “Y/n please… please, please. I love you. I love you, please I need you to know.” He reached out to pull you into an embrace, only to feel emptiness in his arms.
“Ben loves you,” Klaus said.
“I know.” You began to question your own statement. You began to question what Ben told you before he left. “Jesus Christ.” You whispered under your breath and stood up, walking right through Ben as you made your way out of the living room. “Klaus just- just leave.”
“But, Y/n—“
“Klaus leave.” Your voice was as sharp as a blade. “Don’t make me say it a third time.” You turned to them with slanted eyebrows. “Leave.”
“I’ll see you around, okay?” Klaus waved as he walked towards the exit. “I’ll see you some other day. Take care of yourself, please.”
You didn’t respond and walked to your bedroom. The second you got in there the door slammed shut. You slid down the wall and tried your hardest to control your breathing, but nothing you did could help. Your hands shook violently as a scream ripped your vocal cords.
Ben’s heart shattered. The agony behind your voice was enough to break him to pieces. He sat on the other side of the door with tear-stained cheeks. If he knew that four weeks ago would be the last time he’d hold you, he’d hold you tighter. If he knew that four weeks ago would be the last time he’d talk to you, he wouldn’t have stopped talking until the both of you were passed out. He would’ve stayed by your side until the sun rose and you opened your eyes.

Being Reginald Hargreeves's child isn't easy. Constant training, missions left and right, it all seems endless and you'd never have a normal childhood. His children have several ways of coping.
Klaus sneaks out of the house to go to teen parties where he overindulges in alcohol and pumps drugs into his veins.
Allison and Luther lock themselves up in a room where they can be alone and undisturbed. This way they can forget about their responsibilities.
Viktor plays the violin because he isn’t special. He isn’t like his siblings, he’s powerless and weak.
Diego seeks attention. Any attention that validates him as a hero is enough to feed his ego.
Ben can no longer hold a pencil or paintbrush the way he used to. All he can do is watch his loved ones suffer and get hurt. Ben’s heart was broken, knowing that he passed on his misery and misfortune to the one he loved most.

Part two? If I write it, it’s going to be a bit more angsty, no fluff, and it’s going to be shorter (hopefully). Tell me if you want to be tagged.
I may or may not already have an idea.

Summary: Perhaps she had read one too many novels and classics, while romance was not part of the agenda, a hero was, one that would bring her a bouquet every morning, sing to her every night and love her for eternity. Emotions and love were mere signs of weakness, or at least qualities upheld by fools- Five Hargeeves was no fool, both logic and rationality were his tools, yet, for her, neither functioned properly. Yet, neither were willing to let up their beliefs nor were the two willing to let up on one another.
Word Count: 6k+
The thing with feelings and emotional representation were not attributes Five was against, but he felt the need not to express them to or for anyone. Especially since he had decided to travel back in time to proceed with saving the world- the only addition to his plan was Y/N, someone he had met back at the commission.
Although their first encounter was not when he had noticed her, in fact, he pretty much ignored her- not intentionally, but because she was part of the insignificant, someone who was just supposed to correct the timeline and hand him the files- do all his paperwork.
On the other hand, Y/N was unable to 'ignore' him, for the encounter that he considered as their first meeting was not their first meeting for her actually. In fact, before him being introduced to Y/N by the Handler, the girl had been saved by him a few days back, as such;
Today had been a shitty day at the commission, more paperwork, more mistakes to correct, more bad coffee- ew just ew, her entire day was ew. Not the best choice of adjectives but it was true, to top it all off, as she was walking to her residence -a cozy little apartment a few miles away from the Commission building- it began to rain. No, mother nature had perhaps tipped a bucket load of ice-cold water on her. Maybe it was the screams of the falling droplets or her blurred vision, but she was unable to hear the blaring horns of the bus driving right at her as she crossed the street. Much like every animal, she remembers freezing and staring at the bright white lights waiting for the angel of death to pull out her soul before the immense pain could hit her system. Fortunately for her, a second before she made contact with the metallic giant a flash of blue blinded her, after which she felt like she was being spun at unimaginable speed.
"You okay?" Her eyes snapped open at the stranger's -good-looking stranger's- voice. She could sense an undertone of concern in his question, though his expressions showed more anger than concern of any kind. Perhaps because she was still in his arms and had shown no signs of moving.
"I- Uh-"
"I don't have time for this." he sighed before setting her down, patting his coat and looking around, "Try to look both ways while crossing the road, and oh- the pavement is used by pedestrians, not the damn road." with that and a flash of blue he was gone, leaving an everlasting impression on her. This was technically how they had met, not that he remembered, she believed he just needed her to remind him, he was a clever man after all.
Unfortunately, even after THREE YEARS of working with the dunce he had not even batted an eyelash at her, let alone have a whole ass conversation. No hint, no comment, no compliment, nothing had made him even glance up at her from the paperwork she handed him before every mission. By the end of the third year, she had practically given up, he was no knight in shining armor sent to pull her away from her mundane life, he was not her Zorro or Hercules- three years of simping after a man who probably doesn't know her name gone down the drain, what a waste.
Perhaps that was what fate was waiting for all along, for her to stop trying. 31st December, New Year's Eve, a night where everyone gathers around, parties hard, does questionable things in the name of celebration, and often wakes up hungover the next day- starting the new year right. Y/N however, was never made for such loud parties or rowdy crowds because they were annoying and just stupid and she had no one to share her new year's kiss with- there it's been said, and honestly as pathetic as it may sound, it was the truth, the haunting thought that would linger at the back of her mind, but on occasions like these, it would come prancing forward to knock on her door every few hours.
Metaphorically speaking, or so she thought because when there was an actual knock on the door, she glanced at the clock, 10.59 PM- she wondered if she had attracted a murderer to her apartment. Placing the bowl of raw cookie dough on the coffee table and pausing a rerun of her favorite sitcom she pulled on her cardigan, shivering at the cold air that her blanket had been protecting her from for the past few hours.
Opening the door she came face to face with what an author could describe as the most 'annoyed' face in the world. Five Hargreeves in the flesh, standing there in all his suit-cladded glory, frowning at her, eyes boring a form of annoyance that could scare off just about anyone, but she wasn't just anyone. She was his filer, his desk worker, his partner- which was exactly why when he found a mistake in the file she had left at her desk for him, he decided to go ask the slacker if she would prefer to quit herself or have him report her to the Handler.
"Mind explaining this?" he slams the file in her chest, as she caught with an uff, "Thought you were better than the rest of the slackers," huffing he stuffed his hands in his pockets, before looking around at the apartment's door frame then the corridor then peaking over her head as she read the file, into her apartment- simpleton. He thought to himself before glancing back at her, watching her mumble to herself as she read each line, her eyebrows knitted together as she licked her bottom lip, a habit of hers, something she'd do when she was concentrating. The first time he had noticed it, he had thought she was flirting with him, much like the many other desk freaks did, which led him to turn even colder to her, only to realize after a while that this was a habit, rather than an antic to get into his pants. Nonetheless, he was still irritated by her carelessness-
"Umm...Mr.Hargreeves."
"What?"
"Where did you get this file from?" She asked, totally confused.
"From your desk. You left it for me there-"
"No...I didn't, you had no missions for today and...I took an off today, did you not...notice?" she trailed off at the end with a defeated sigh, handing the file back to him, and giving him a tight-lipped smile.
"Why would I notice that- who put it on your desk then?"
"Probably the person who wrote it." sighing, arms crossed she leaned against the doorframe.
"What-"
"Not that you noticed the change in writing style either, this was written by Beatrice." She motioned towards the file, "It's in a faded beige file and it's typed in black ink. I type in blue ink and use black files or envelopes unless we're sending it to you through the pipes. My guess is she had a date with her field agent, considering he does know she exists and thought of putting it on my desk, knowing you'd probably pick it up and the train engineer is supposed to have a heart attack before the express mail train slams into the other upcoming one, he doesn't fall asleep. If I'm correct you or well Brian- Beatrice's field agent was supposed to induce a heart attack, enabling the tragedy of Ogden, Utah to occur."
"Oh." was all he could manage to say.
"Indeed, Oh." with that she straightened up and nodded at him, "Happy New Year, Mr.Hargreeves." before closing the door, only to be stopped by his hand as he pushed it open.
"Wait, but what about- you need to come to the Commission and file this correctly."
"What? No, are you kidding me?"
"Clearly, I am not, the timeline is important-"
"Not really, time is irrelevant here." She shrugged, "And anyway, it's her file, her fault, just slap it back on her desk and-"
"I'm not asking, I'm telling ya!" He snapped at her, causing her to flinch, biting her lip to hold back the rush of emotions, she had never imagined him using such a tone with her, let alone yelling at her. She took a small step back, shaking her head slightly, staring at the floor, the angelic, god-like image of him shattering in her mind. Not only did he not recognize her work, but also thought she'd make such a mistake, and he had the nerve to come up to her apartment and yell at her.
"What is the matter with you?" he groaned, checking his wrist watch, "We don't have much time-"
"What's my name?" she muttered, catching him off guard.
"What?"
"I said, do you know my name?" she asked, tears threatening to fall at any given moment as she glared at him through glassy eyes.
"What is the point of that question, of course, I know your name, it's -" he paused, thinking to himself before shaking his head at something and blinking away with a flash.
Sighing in defeat she finally closed the door and went back to her couch, wrapping herself in the warm, heavy blanket. Three years of working together, of writing his reports for and after the mission, adding a small 'tips' section and sometimes maps of areas he could rest or eat at just because she thought that's what a good partner would do- three years of time wasted on a partner who didn't even bother learning her name.
Jolting awake at the sound of something falling followed by a hiss she fought off the blanket that had somehow put her in a chokehold. Finally managing to push it off she gasped for air, only to lock eyes with forest green hues, emitting a, "WHAT THE F***"
"Happy New Year to you too."
"WHY ARE YOU HERE- DID YOU EAT ALL THE COOKIE DOUGH?"
"Well, I came to tell you I had to file the report myself, no thanks to your stubborn ass and complained about Barbra or whatever."
"What-"
"Also, Y/N, what kind of fool do you take me for?" He asked, sitting crossed as he side-eyed her while watching TV.
Frowning at his question she scooted further into the corner of the couch, "So ya read my name of the file-"
"No you desk worm. I've known your name since day one." He sighed, turning to look at her cocooned form, feeling somewhat guilty as trailed off, "Just didn't realize how useful those tips were."
Her ears perked up at that little compliment, instantly threw off the blankets, and stood on the cold floor, hands resting on her hips as she let out a smug huff, "Well then, guess we learned something today, didn't we?"
"That you're a lonely worm? I already knew that though."
"You can be mean sometimes Mr.Hargreeves," she muttered looking at the screen and then at the clock, it was an hour past midnight, what a way to start the new year.
"Anyway." Getting up he patted the invisible dirt of his clothes, "I'll see you at work tomorrow, and I prefer if you call Five. Mr.Hargreeves makes you sound like a gold digger." Before she could react he blinked away, sowing the seed of a relationship that was soon going to blossom into a full-blown field.
The best thing to come out of that weird night was that much to everyone's amazement, Five had begun to warm up to his  'desk worm'. More importantly, he would sit at her desk after missions, as she wrote the report. Usually, he'd be drinking his coffee, watching her type, pitching in a few details from time to time, and earning a comment from her. Many, including the Handler, had tried to eavesdrop on their conversations, for getting Five Hargreeves to say or talk in any decent manner was next to impossible.
Herb had forgotten his wallet at work, so decided to head back to the Commission. Naturally, he had expected the place to be empty, minus the security guards, but was amazed to enter the workplace to find Y/N laughing at a Five who seemed to have been glaring at her, face flushed. So, like any nosy little office worker, he hid behind the wall to listen to them.
"I did not save you."
"Yes! You did! I can't believe you didn't remember me!"
"Why didn't you tell me then?"
"It's embarrassing."
"Well, they do say never meet your heroes."
"They're right, I thought I was miserable. No, Five Hargreeves has it worse."
"Welp, that's the last time I will converse with you."
Herb heard a chair screech followed by her laughter, causing him to panic.
"Wait! A gentleman is supposed to drop the fine lady home!" She said grabbing her purse and linking her arm with the taller man, looking up at him with those shiny expectant eyes, earning an eye roll from him, though he didn't pull away.
The two walked out of the office, passing by SMALL GUY who was hiding behind a file cabinet, bickering about tomorrow's mission and other useless topics one could think of.
Y/N didn't care how long it was taking to peel off each layer or break down every wall he had built around him, she was just glad that he was letting her to do it. Five on the other hand was extremely conflicted, on one hand, he had his own plan and on the other his heart had begun to slowly blossom every time he was near her or thought of her. When he joined the Commission he had planned on going solo for the long run, no friends meant no liabilities and no lover meant no weakness- or so he thought.
If it wasn't her obnoxious laughter that would get his heart racing, it was the unasked-for, but somewhat welcomed, touches. From the way her fingers would brush against his while handing him a file to the night she held his hand to comfort him when he had 'accidentally' ended up telling her about how much he missed his family. That cursed night at her apartment had his brain ready to fight his heart-forcing him to spend the entire night awake in the guestroom.
Regardless, he had always been a firm believer in "You may not be able to control your emotions, but you can control your actions." That is until she turned 29, well, technically it wasn't her age that had affected his policy but her simple invitation to a bar for some "birthday drinks", sure did a number on his rationality. All he remembered from the merry little event was the low-cut dress that she had chosen to adorn that night and that they may have had a drink too many, cause after she purred out his name, he blacked out. The next morning he woke up with a massive headache and her next to him.
Not the way he had ever assumed he'd start a relationship this way, but then again he had never thought he'd be in one in the first place.
The first thing he had to learn while being with her was that they were very different. He was blunt, rude, and straight-up obnoxious (words of other people, not his), she was polite, considerate, and to some extent a bit too nice. Another thing about her that he had to embrace was the difference in love languages; he would consider small gestures, like making her coffee or arranging her files at her desk- barely anything physical. Y/N on the other hand loved physical affection, from cuddling to holding hands to just sitting next to him, close enough for their shoulders to touch. At first, it would bother him, the lack of human contact for all those years had him irritated by the thought of love. To some extent he had assumed that this was a tactic to assert dominance, a routine conducted by the Handler- but over time he had realized how her actions were genuine and filled with love.
Love, she loved him, and to his surprise when the first time the words 'I love you', had been uttered to him, he had instantly responded with 'But I can't love you.' leaving them both standing there in the middle of her apartment, staring at each other.
"Oh-"
"Wait, I - Y/N it's not like that, I-"
"It's okay Five- I mean it's not okay okay but I- " she paused, vision turning blurry before sniffing to hold back her emotions.
He reached out to touch her only for her to take a step back, "Y-you can go if you want, I'll clean up myself-"
"That's not what I meant." His voice held a certain edge to it as he watched her clean up the place where they had been watching a movie- the movie now forgotten. He was pissed, more at himself than her, it's not like he had asked her out, she did and he had other plans too and- all his thoughts came to a halt when he heard glad shatter followed by a yelp.
Blinking into the kitchen he saw her standing next to what appeared to be a broken glass, holding onto her other hand that was bleeding.
"Shit."
"It's fine, just go."
Blinking in front of her, he gripped her wrist, staring at her. Glaring up at him she was about to retort but when their eyes meant. Now, as sappy as it could sound, she could literally see an internal argument swirling within his forest hues- she knew that look. The look he'd give when he would be trying to outdo his heart in a battle with his 'logic'.
"Five."
"Wait. I'm thinking."
"About."
"You know what."
"You don't have to force yourself to love me-"
"I'm forcing myself not to."
That was all it took for the two to realize how he had confessed back to her, admitting he had felt the same way about her.
"Why?"
"No, you'll be in danger and become a liability and I have other plans and-"
"You'll be happy for once?"
He doesn't remember the last time he had ever let his heart win against his mind, but perhaps the reason for the argument siding with his heart made it easier for him to rule it out, allowing him to break free from the restraints that had held him down ever since he had time traveled.
Although they were ready to move onto a stronger and more important change in their relationship, he had been ever so kind to set ground rules;
"Rule number one, you will do as I ask if we're in danger, your life matters more than anything."
"Rule number two, you will STAY PUT, and I mean it, none of that hero shit."
"And most importantly, if I ever disappear or am no longer here, you will move on."
Simple right?
Not really.
For at that very moment, the Hargreevs were staring at their 13-year-old brother arguing with another teenager, who had fallen out of the portal behind him, in the kitchen.
"Umm...number Five-"
Not now Luther. I have bigger fish to deal with-"
"Why are you mad?!"
"WHY AM - OH MY - GOD YOU - "Everyone in the room could see the boy malfunction until he paused, taking a deep breath he exhaled and looked at his siblings, "What's the date?"
"Five I-"
"Not. A.Word," he growled, not even sparing her a glance.
"But-"
He shushed her by placing a finger on his lips then pointing with that same finger with his brows raised, seething out a "Silence from you."
That was the first time the siblings had seen their brother in a long time, and it horrified them how he had turned into a worse nutjob than they had imagined.
...
After the little kitchen fiasco, Y/N was instructed by Five to stay in his room.
"WHY ARE YOU LOCKING THE DOOR!"
"Clearly because you can't be trusted. Nor can the idiots outside, so make yourself comfortable or something." He yelled from over the door and stomped back down the stairs to get a cup of coffee.
"What're you looking for?@ Klaus asked, feet perched up on the table, "Scratch that, who's that wee lass locked up in your dungeon of a room?"
Clicking his tongue he threw another empty can away, "My wife- well, that's it, gonna get myself a cup of coffee"
"Excuse me? Your what?" Allison spat, arms crossed as she looked at him with raised brows, causing him to turn around and glare at her, "What part of that statement was unclear to you?"
"I mean I'm just amazed someone would even go out of their way to spend more than an hour with you, let alone marry you." She snorted, glancing at Diego who entered the room.
"Heard you got divorced by the way." Smirking at her scowl he blinked away. Initially, he was going to go get coffee but then the thought of locking her upstairs was bothering him even more, which is why he blinked into his room, only to find her tying up his bed sheets.
"What are you doing?"
"Redecorating."
Cue him dragging her to the doughnut shop with him, grumbling his way there as she swung their hands back and forth, "You never listen, I mean I told you- we've been married for so long and-"
"Oh look we're here."
The argument did erupt until the two were actually sitting and waiting for their coffee.
"Rule number three..." Five glanced up from the map the man had made for him on the napkin, noticing how his wife was just staring ahead as she began speaking (never a good sign), "What about it?" he muttered casually.
"Did you always plan on leaving me behind?"
"I-" he paused, causing her to look up from her doughnut, was he really going to not answer her again, if she hadn't jumped into the portal behind him, he would've just left her, wouldn't he?
It amazed her how well he could still easily shut her out, even after being married for so long, sometimes she would feel as if she was completely bare in front of him, while he stood there, layer upon layer, gazing at her with an air of mockery.
"Five I-" she was cut off by the sound of the bell, pausing when she felt him grab her hand and give it a little squeeze. She could hardly react before she was blinked out into the back of the shop.
"Wait-" he grabbed her face and looked at her, trying to console the pain in her eyes, "I'll be back, don't move." before blinking away.
That was the first time she had experienced the adrenaline, the fear, and the anxiety that came with the job, being a desk worker had protected her from all these things, he had protected her from all these things, but now that she was here, she had begun to understand why he wanted to leave her behind. To some extent she had wanted to apologize to him, beg him to leave her behind so he could carry out his task, but on the other hand, she knew she couldn't survive without him, she needed him to be able to live on.
"What do you mean to leave you?" he asked, as he stared at her, the two were making it back to the house. He was holding onto her hand, pulling her closer ever so often.
"I mean, I understand if you want to leave me behind, " her words stung him more than she could ever imagine, but she could see that as soon she glanced at his furrowed brows, eyes sharp as he stared ahead.
"You say that so casually, yet, you're the one who made me believe in love," he whispers to himself, entering the quiet Hargreeves mansion, hopeful that everyone was asleep.
"I- no, Five, what I mean is, I now understand what you meant when you said I'd become a liability." she pulled on his hand, only for him to slip it out of her grasp and go to the mini bar, grabbing a bottle and glass. He was in no mood for this conversation,  no mood for her insecurities, no mood for her selfless nature. For once he was glad that she had decided to be selfish, to follow him here, sure, he wasn't happy about her being put in danger, but feeling her next to him, knowing she was with him, especially after the commission sent people for him, made him realize how even if he had left her behind, they would’ve gotten to her- doing God knows what to extract information out of her.
"Five, please talk to me."
Klaus slowly peaked up from behind the couch, a lover's quarrel was more entertaining than listening to Ben yells at him.
"What do you want me to say Y/N?" he sighed, pouring himself a glass, "Please enlighten me, what happened for you to follow me here but then" He took a swig f his glass, gulping it down in one go before slamming it on the counter, smacking his lips as he glared at her.
She flinched at his tone, he had never used that tone with her, let alone yell at her. "I-" words caught in her throat she looked at the ground, gripping the ends of her coat's sleeves, "I just...thought...maybe- I mean I." her words dying out as the rush of emotions finally started taking over, one of the many things that made the two different.  While he was a being more composed than the statue of Buddha, she was a whirlwind of emotions, moments away from breaking loose. The only thing the two did have in common was their ability to bottle up their feelings.
"Aw no, little girl, don't give up." Klaus whispered, earning  a "shush" from Ben who was standing next to Y/N then looking at Five, "Klaus, defuse this situation, say something so they stop arguing."
Shaking his head in response he leaned back down on the couch, he wanted to see the drama, not a part of it.
Sighing in defeat she looked at her shoes, he was right, why did she follow him, why did she decide to put him in more danger than he was already in, why was she making it more difficult for the man who had saved her numerous times - at this point, she was sure it was the raging teenage hormones, because the moment he called out her name again, with that sweet, calming tone, she broke down, sinking to her knees.
Five watched her struggle with her words, he knew he was pushing it too far, not once in the time of being with her had he done this. Usually, because she was the more upfront one out of the two, saying what was on her mind, asking for what she needed, doing what she felt was right, like how she'd throw away the file he'd be reading after coming from work, "prepping for the next mission"
"Woman! I was reading that-"
"Come to bed, it’s a simple mission, we've gone through worse."
We, that's what was bothering him, since when did they go from "We" to "i", "me" or "you". Singular pronouns were barely part of her vocabulary, so what had happened for her to suddenly say this? Was he scared? Of course, he was afraid, he had been with her for so long, relying on her for so long that the thought of her leaving midway may have bud some form of separation anxiety. Yes, he had wanted to leave her behind, but perhaps those three seconds he spent staring at the portal, back in the 60s were him waiting to see if she would follow, or at least come looking for him. Hypocritical, it was, but he had never claimed to be some saint, he was a walking canister of red flags. It was her, she was the pure one, the proof of innocence and humility, if anyone out there deserved true, ultimate happiness, it was only her and if the world was not always at war with him, he would've spent time trying to give it all to her.
He looked at her, wanting to continue but froze when he saw her crumble before him, instantly blinking next to her as he held her close, whispering nonstop apologies. Kissing the top of her head,  heart squeezing when he felt her grip on his jacket, mumbling how much she loved him but was afraid.
"I know you are. I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe, my love."
That very night- when Klaus was knocked out Ben saw a different side of Five, one that he had not seen even when he was alive, the way Five was holding onto her, assuring her of how much he loved her but would also keep her safe, how sorry he was that he dragged her into this. Ben had never known Five to be one to give value to emotions, let alone use any words of comfort.
It was safe to say, over the next couple of days, Ben had developed a certain bond with the girl, not that she knew he existed, but he felt like he owed it to Five- or rather he felt like Five deserved to have that ounce of security and happiness kept safe and alive. Sometimes Klaus couldn't find him, he'd call him but he wouldn't show up, he'd look for him, call him out had him thinking his powers were losing their effect. In actuality, Ben would be following her around, while she would make little trips to the library to find books for Five or sometimes the doughnut shop to get something. He knew she wouldn't know about him, perhaps he wanted to befriend her, someone who was not a Hargreeves, someone who was not a freak. So, he was content, watching over her like a guardian angel, even if she didn't know he existed
Or that's what he had thought.
"It's all right, I'm fine, I feel safe with you," she said buckling up in the truck, the one they had just stolen, and fixing her attire, the first thing she had done after coming to the sixties, got a pair of pants, after following Klaus catfish old rich women, and create a cult- technically that wasn't how hippie culture had come to being, her inner 'desk worker' kept on reminding her, but since their arrival had already messed up the time, might as well lets these people do whatever they want.
"Why thank you, that brings me great joy" Klaus chided, as he stepped on the gas, the beads on his weird beard jiggling.
"Not you, Ben." She said simply, flipping onto the page she had bookmarked in her book, the only activity that would remind her of her husband.
"I- who?" Klaus squeaked, Ben, who was sitting in between the two gasped, turning to face her, "Yo, did she just-"
"No, I can not see him, but I know he's here, I read about all of you, from the diary your father wrote- snagged it off Leonard, so, I figured out, the mysterious feeling of being watched came was not me losing my mind, but that your brother never crossed over." She mumbled, turning to another page, "Thank you, Ben, I'm sure Five would appreciate it."
"You sure are something, doll," Klaus muttered as he saw Ben smiling like a five-year-old child who got that very special toy he wanted.
It was after this confession that she wanted to see Ben and get to know him better, Five had told her about his siblings but had mentioned how Ben was one of the most innocent ones. That's why she wanted to meet him, something she told Five, a few minutes before they were going to go back to their usual timeline.
"You know, I saw you die." He whispered, sitting next to her on the stairs of the porch, looking at the bodies, "I almost broke my promise."
"Almost" she smiled, reaching for his hand, gently placing her head on his shoulder, playing with his fingers, "I knew you'd save me, oh, by the way, did I tell you, Ben has been my guardian angel all this time."
"I had a feeling," he whispered, bringing her hand to his lips, pressing them against the back of her hand, "Glad you figured it out, my clever little desk worm."
"When did you figure it out?" She asked, pulling him up to his feet as she stood up too, going to where everyone was not standing in a circle, "When you told me about the book floating above your head, you would've loved him if you met him."
WRONG
"Five!" she gasped, ducking when a tentacle almost hit her, missing her but almost hitting Five who had blinked away.
"Nice to see you too Ben" he yelled, sitting on the top of the railing, "Mind not aiming at my wife, she's not like us."
For a split second, Ben stopped, glancing at her before nodding towards the exit, "Scram kid, and get a new boyfriend."
.
"So, that was Ben?" she asked, pressing a napkin against Five's bleeding forehead.
"An asshole, yes." Klaus groaned, staring up at the sky, "Is it me or were they better than us."
"Who were you kissing by the way," she asked, both lost in their own little world, "You" he responded simply, ignoring the headache and the way Allison was screaming at him to figure this out.
"Hey, love birds, what do we do now?" Diego asked as the lot walked out of the park, pausing to look up at the billboard of the Sparrow Academy.
"Find a place to rest and think?" She said, tugging on Five's hand who was focused on something else, "Hmm? yeah, sure."
.
"What are you, a commie?" Diego groaned, as Five flopped on the bed, ignoring him before mumbling something and knocking out, knowing Y/N was in the same room as Vanya and Allison.
Y/N had left the sisters alone, they seemed to be having a moment, and she did not want to be part of it. She had decided to take a shower, changing into some sweats she had bought with a card she had swiped off someone on the streets, pickpocketing was one of the only few tricks Five had taught her- never how to hold a gun though, said she was too pure for it.
Making her way down to Five's room, she heard the boys shuffling and arguing inside,
"Fuck- KLAUS, I said chocolate!"
"It is chocolate my bro- only with a dash of-"
"Hey Five, where do you want the presents?"
"By the table you big ape."
"Klaus, please get a decent cake."
Cake? Opening the door, which as per expectations was unlocked, she met with 4 pairs of panicked eyes, a pair belonging to her husband in a bathing gown, squeaky clean. She could see some balloons on the ground around a table, on top of which was a reddish cake, poorly wrapped boxes on the other end.
"Surprise~" Klaus sang weakly as Five face palmed, Diego hiding the gift he was holding in his hand behind him, Luther just standing there frozen. "What are you - what is happening?" she asked, entering the room, before looking around.
"Its- I thought you were asleep." he muttered going over to her as he held her hands, "Happy birthday my love." he smiled, kissing her forehead, "I'm sorry I didn't remember earlier, I don't know how it slipped my mind." he muttered, "I didn't get you anything special but-" he paused when he felt her envelope him in a hug, almost crushing the air out of him as she let out a small sob.
"Aw, don't cry" Klaus clapped from behind them as Five pulled her away, wiping her face with his sleeve. "We're here." Victor declared as they entered the room, Allison behind him, "I brought the pastries, which weren't cheap by the way- are we late?" She asked, eying Y/N who was busy unwrapping a gift.
"No, Mrs.Five Hargeeves was early," Diego said as he took the box of treats from her, and placed them on the couch.
She gasped at the mini journal, flipping through the empty pages, ready for her to fill. Caressing the blue leather, she didn't know what she'd fill it with, but she knew by the end of the year it'd be filled to the brim. Honestly, she was surprised about how he remembered this, their little tradition, admist this chaos, he'd get her a journal each year, for her birthday, telling her that even if he was not there anymore, their memories would be engraved in letters, ones she could go through whenever she missed him. She didn't know when she had begun crying, only realized it when she felt a hand on her shoulder, looking up to see Five, smile at her, not his usual cheeky confident self, but a smile of reassurance, one he gave her when he had rejected her confession, when the two had realized a child could never be part of their marriage when they had lost their little turtle.
"I'm sorry." he whispered, only for her to shake her head, "Please don't be, I'm just glad I'm with you."
"So am I."
None of them really knew what was going to happen to anyone, what was going to happen next, if there was ever a moment for them to find their own happy ending, but at the end of it, she knew that Five would find a way. She believed in that blindly, after all, he was her savior, he was her knight in shining armor sent to pull her away from her mundane life, he was her Zorro or Hercules- her idiot husband. Her one true love.

WORD COUNT 1.1K
WRITTEN  12.10.2023
tonight was your night. strobing lights flashing all around you, sticky spots on your arms where people accidentally spilled their liquor, bodies flush against your own as everyone flowed with the music. you could forget all about any and every difficulty in your life. one night of drinking and partying, which you would most likely regret in the morning. but for now, you didn't care. you were having fun.
"hey, what's that?" your friend shouted over the booming music. you couldn't hear her.
"what?" you shouted back in confusion. she reached over to you, pulling out a blinkering device from the small, glittery purse barely hanging off of your arm. It was your phone - someone was calling. She looked at the caller ID and her expression darkened. "Who is it?"
You walked around her, only to see him. That stupid fucking smile of his, so goddamn beautiful. You felt your heart sink into your stomach and it settled with a tragic gurgle at the bottom of your gut. Your friend immediately hung up on him and gave you your phone back. "Just leave it alone, okay? Remember why you came here in the first place . . ."
Her expression was encouraging - she wanted you to say it. With a relictant role of your eyes, you responded, "to get drunk and forget about him," with as much disdain as you could.
"Exactly," she responded with a simpering smile, clapping her hands together. She grabbed you by the shoulders, turned you around, and started to push you towards the mass of bodies. "So go out there, dance your ass off, and make every man in this room jealous that he can't have you. Go!"
"All right, all right!" You exclaimed in response, shrugging her hands off your shoulder and entering the crowd through a very narrow passageway between two couples dancing it out. As the scent of alcohol, sweat, and sex assaulted your senses, you started to wonder whether this was a good idea at all. You slowly looked towards your purse. No. You promised yourself you wouldn't crawl back to him. But it was just too easy to pull out your phone and stare at new messages you recieved.
DIEGO (10:34PM) look, i know things ended badly
DIEGO (10:34PM) but i can be better
DIEGO (10:35PM) Location shared. come on please, just talk to me
It wouldn't be a big deal if you went over, right? I mean, you were just friends. That's what you decided on when you ended your relationship, even if you had ignored him since said desicion. It was just one night. One singular night, and you were just stopping by. It totally wasn't a bad idea at all. Right?
You didn't bother saying goodbye to your friend. She was probably already luring they guy she was dancing with to the bathroom - you wouldn't see her for a while. And she wouldn't see you either.
His address wasn't far off from where you were - you could walk there, even. You ignored the catcalls and whistles thrown your way, rushing through the streets to the one person who could ever get you to do something like this. He was your biggest strength and your worst weakness, all at once.
You climbed the stairs to an apartament complex to the second floor, flying past the different room numbers until you found his. With heavy breath, you raised your hand to the wood but hesitated. How was this night going to end? Well . . . how do you want this night to end? You weren't going to pretend as though you didn't miss him whole-heartedly. But it was hard to pretend as though he wasn't the one who ended things.
You were delusional. You thought, maybe one more night together would be good for us.
You knocked, three times. It wasn't long before he swung open the door and leaned against it, again, with fhat smug smirk. Diego. His eyes followed the length do your body - you almost forgot you had dressed up to go out with your friend.
"All for me?" He asked, returning his gaze to your eyes. It was alluring - not begging, but demanding that you come inside. It was hard to tear your eyes away from him. He was still in his vigilante gear and he knew how that made you feel.
A plesant blush spread over your cheeks. "I was out clubbing," you responded shyly, shifting your weight between your feet. He said nothing, only moving out fo your way and pulling the door wider. Asking to please, come in. You hurried inside - after all, you were shivering from the freezing cold in a much-too-short mini-dress and skinny heels. "I'll admit, I wasn't expecting you to reach out."
"No?" He had his back turned to you, by the small counter that must be the kitchen. He faced you again, with two glass tumblers and offered you a drink. You accepted - after all, he was being hospitable and you didn't want to be rude. Finding a place to get comfortable, you leaned against what you could call a kitchen table, but being truthful, you were practically seated upon it. "I wasn't expecting you to come."
You shrugged, taking a long dreg from your tumbler, staring at the bottom of it when it left your lips. The tension in the room was thicker than blood. You looked up when the sound of Diego's drink meeting the table met your ears. He approached you, almost cautiously, like you were a deer in headlights. Taking the drink from your hand, he placed it on the table far from you and rested his hands on the surface of the table behind you. You were trapped. But it didn't much feel that way. In fact, you felt almost free, like ever since the break-up a piece of you had been locked up and now that you were with Diego . . . you were free to be who you are and do whatever you wanted.
"Which means we both know why we're here, right now," he said softly. An hour ago, you had told your friend that you and Diego were purely platonic. I only see him as a friend. You scoffed at yourself now. If that wasn't the biggest lie you've ever told yourself.
One of his hands reached out, trailing shapes onto the skin of your hand. This was a horrible idea.
"If you don't want to do this, I suggest you leave now."
It was a terrible idea.
But God, you wanted him.
"Why do you think I'm here you big dummy?" You smashed your lips against his, wrapping your legs around his torso while your hands trailed their way up his neck.
He grinned against your lips, his hand trailing down to clutch your ass. "Now that's what I'm talking about."

– 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐄𝐒 || 𝐛𝐞𝐧 + 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜!𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬
SUMMARY: The thing about Klaus Hargeeves and the titles he had was that, for all the bad and bloodied ones he’d accumulated over his weirdly-long-but-should-have-been-shorter lifetime– nothing hurt more than becoming a stranger. PAIRINGS: Klaus x Reader (Platonic), Sparrow!Reader x Sparrow!Ben (Romance), Past!Reader x Umbrella!Ben (Romance), Klaus x Reader x Ben TAGS/WARNINGS: angst ; romance
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Klaus Hargeeves had accumulated more than his fair share of titles over the course of his weirdly-long-but-should-have-been-shorter lifetime.
Before the first Apocalypse, he’d been Klaus: Number Four. The Séance. Family fuck-up and resident weirdo.
When he’d ended up smack-dab in the middle of the Vietnam war, the list only grew from there: Private Hargreeves. Soldier. Murderer.
The titles were no less bloody than his first few, and maybe if he’d saved Dave the additions might’ve been an easier pill to swallow.
But Klaus lost Dave anyway and though he wasn’t into the swallowing business nowadays (of pills, that is), the dog tags he wore beneath his torn shirt were a bitter reminder that death and misery would follow him always.
Even after leaving The Umbrella Academy.
When he and his family failed to save the world the first time (which, according to a very snappish Five, was not technically the first time; very tensed up man-child, mind you)–Klaus, as always, did what he did best.
He accepted the cards he’d been dealt with, and he settled.
And for the most part, things were okay. Delightful, even.
Amongst his Cult, he’d been a Messiah. God.
As if God wasn’t already fucked up for putting him through all the shit he’d been through, Klaus accepted the monicker with a grain of salt and revelled in the false sense of security it gave him.
So long as he was God, nothing would touch him or his people.
Because, for all that Klaus was unlucky, for all that he was unfortunate when it came to too-bloody-titles and titles that were false in every way, somehow he’d ended up in 1960 with not only Ben, but with you, too.
From 1960 to 1962, the years you shared together–you, consoling him first after an argument with Ben before astral projecting yourself between worlds to coax your boyfriend back; Ben, always disagreeing with anything to do with Destiny’s Children until you’d concede sweetly in turn; and him, teasing Ben mercilessly for making him a third-wheel but purposely making him more tangible so his love-struck brother could rest his head above your heart–reminded Klaus of the only good titles he had alongside his name.
To the world (old and new), Klaus Hargreeves was known as many things.  Weird things. Bloody things. But to Ben, his Benirrino, Klaus was his brother.
He could be overwhelming to a fault, he knew, but Ben–angry, bitter and emo Benny boy– loved him all the same. And Klaus would’ve died a happy bastard knowing he had at least one sibling with him 60 years in the past.
With you, [N/N], Klaus didn’t quite know why you’d stuck with him after Ben had died in the original timeline. Until the epiphany came to him between nights you sought each other to grieve and days you went looking for a new high that he’d never had a best-friend before.
He might’ve been responsible for half the stress you were constantly under, but you had accepted him anyways and always in the ways that mattered and for that, Klaus would make do with a sappy Ben if it meant having you there with him, too.
After two glorious years of just being Ben’s playful brother and [Y/N]’s chaotic best-friend, Klaus thought he could well and truly live if he only ever had to answer to these two titles.
And then, Five re-appeared.
The rest of his family, too.
And suddenly, the world was back on a timer.
Klaus had to be Number Four again. Had to be The Séance, the Soldier.
If they wanted an edge over the Temps Time Commission, he had to bring out the whole shabam and play into everything Daddy-dearest ever wanted of him in order to do anything and return to a timeline where he was all these shitty titles (some shameful, some not) and then some.
And while he could’ve done it, could’ve accepted the bitter reality-check like the good little Solider that he was–it became a little harder for Klaus to just settle with the cards he’d been dealt with when Ben dies saving Viktor.
It becomes even worse when, just as the two of you are almost out, almost back-in-your-original timeline, you decide to shield Allison during a barrage of gunfire.
Klaus had seen you first amidst the chaos–eyes wide, hands trembling–and had cheered in a moment of drunken stupor before Five called your name.  Had called for you as though he couldn’t see you even though you were standing right there...
He barely manages to process what’s happened and the fact he’s lost his brother and best-friend all in one sweep (He sees Dave in the distance, and blood roars in his ears) before Viktor’s at his side, gently holding onto his hand with the echo of grief in his eyes as Five opens the briefcase.
The last image he sees of 1962 is the small, sad, smile of your apparition as he falls forward in time and into a world that spits at everything he ever was.
Because there, in 2019, is Ben.
Alive. Breathing. Whole.
“Dad, who are these assholes?” his brother’s voice echoes through the long room, Klaus’ stomach lurching as Ben considers them without a hint of recognition.
His heart swells and the breaks again because with that question, his brother dies again.
“Come on Ben, play nice...” To the collective surprise and horror mounting amongst his family, your gentle voice cuts through the air as you step out from behind his brother to place a hand on his shoulder.
Flushed and lively despite being dead only a few moments prior–he’s not the only one disoriented seeing you in front of them.
“But he does have a point,” you continue onward, uncaring of the sharp breath Allison takes (your blood is still splattered on her face) or the way Diego’s eyes dart between you and Ben; side by side, even in another life.
“Who are you and why are you here?”

Five Hargeeves - I Know You
Pairing: Five x Reader
Tumblr media
The streets were quite packed as you tried to push not only yourself, but your luggage through. You were trying to make your way to Hotel Obsidian, the cheapest hotel you could think of. You were only staying for a few days for work related purposes, so you didn’t need anything too fancy.
“God damn it, move people!” You yelled, as you pushed your way through the turning doors.
Stumbling through, you smiled and pushed your glasses up on your face. As much as this hotel sucked, you still preferred it over any other.
“A room please,” You said to the man behind the counter.
He nodded his head, handing you a book. You wrote your name down and took the key he gave you. While doing so, you felt a pair of eyes on you. Those eyes happened to belong to Five Hargeeves. He stared at you astonished, as the last time he saw you, you worked at the Commission. And by last time, he really meant the last time anybody saw you, as you died that day. Ever since that day, he’s had you on his mind. He was convinced nothing could make him forget you.
“Who is that?” Diego asked, seeing his brother staring.
“Either an old friend or a doppelgänger,” Five said, as he stood up.
He was determined to find out who you actually were. He would prefer you to be the person he once knew, but he didn’t get his hopes up.
“Excuse me,” Five said, as he rushed into the elevator next to you.
“Hello, can I help you, kid?” You asked.
“I’m sorry, I thought you were someone else,” Fives heart sank “if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your name?”
“Oh, um…my name is Y/N,” You smiled down at the boy, a little confused.
The elevator door opened just as you did so, causing you to rush out. It’s not that you didn’t want to talk to this kid, it’s that you hated talking to people in general.
“I know this may sound crazy, but I know you,” Five said, chasing after you.
“I’m sure you do kid, I’ve got multiple degrees and I used to be a professor at Yale and Harvard,” You stopped at your door and began unlocking it.
“That’s new…you used to be an expert in combat, I was the expert in knowledge,” Five mumbled.
“Look, kid,” You sighed and looked over that him “I don’t know who you are and I really just want to get in my room and relax before my presentation tomorrow,”
“Yeah no, sorry,” Five looked down at his feet.
You watched as he walked down the hall, back towards the elevator. He truly seemed as if he knew you, but you didn’t know him. You felt bad and knew you couldn’t be rude, especially if he was just curious as to who you were.
“Hey, kid!” You yelled.
“Yeah?” Five turned around, a hopeful look on his face.
“How about you give me an hour and I’ll meet you in the lobby. You can tell me how you know me, sound good?” You gave a small smiled.
“Sounds good, Y/N/N,” Five smiled back.
You watched as he disappeared into the elevator, the smile falling from your lips. The last person to ever use that nickname was your mother, who died years ago.
“Maybe he does know me,”

Tumblr media Tumblr media
"No, we are getting the chocolate ones," Five rolls his eyes.
"Uh- no we aren't? We are getting mint ones," you argue back.
"There is something wrong with you, nobody likes mint oreos," he tells you with disgust in his voice, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"That's not true, you just lack enough social interaction to know that," you huff.
"Well, everyone at the academy agreed on chocolate," he reminds you.
"Okay, that was before I saw those delicious mint ones-"
"'Delicious mint ones my ass. You might as well just take the cookie part off of a regular one and put toothpaste on it"
"I'm done with this, we are getting both- problem solved," you say placing both in the cart.
Tumblr media
"What ingredients did Klaus say he needed," you wonder aloud.
"We are not getting Klaus anything," Five tries to steal the cart from you.
"What do you mean? He told me to get him ingredients so we can make a cake together," you tell him.
"Klaus can't bake"
"You can't space jump without getting stuck in the future either," you cross your arms.
His jaw drops and he glares at you.
"At least I'm not best friends with someone who's high all the time," he says.
"I happen to enjoy his highness, he makes everything less... serious," you look him up and down.
"Whatever, just get everything on the shelf for all I care," Five gives up.
Tumblr media
"Can we get a dog," you ask while strolling through the isle with pet food and supplies.
"Absolutely not"
"But why, do you think I can't take care of one?"
"Yes, in fact I do think that"
"I would make a great parent, for your information"
"Oh really? The last time we had a pet you gave the fish a bath-"
"He needed to be cleaned"
"-with soap!"
You shake your head looking up and mutter a 'rest in peace Mr. Goldfish'.
Tumblr media
You two finally made it back to the academy to see Allison and Luther waiting in the kitchen.
Luther looks at Allison, "I'm surprised, they made it back without killing each other!"
The two of you glance at each other, "barely," you say in sync with him.

five with a clingy!so
hi! i'm sorry these are so short and that they're so late!!
HEADCANONS FOR FIVE WITH CLINGY!S/O
Tumblr media
This would be the best type of s/o for him probably
Like… the man is just so touch-starved that once he gets a taste it’s like-
He’s clingy too, dude, so it works
Along with this, it’s a lot easier because he doesn’t like being lonely on his time traveling escapades
Plus, whatever happens to him happens to you so if you’re both 13 again… welp at least one of you isn’t 50 with the other being 13
Especially with how touchy you are, that wouldn’t be good.
You’re just always with him, so unlike with other s/os he wouldn’t have to jump around and say basically the equivalent of “get in the car loser, we’re going shopping”
So he’d just be like, hey we’re going and you’d be like ok cool and everything would be happy and good :)

Hc: Dating Five Hargreeves
Five x reader
Tumblr media
NB// Most thing in brackets () are just my thought and sarcastic comments.
Five accidentally bumped into you on his last jump and took you along with him to the future. Five was shocked to see someone else with him.
You both start dating a couple years later.
Five's love language is touching and sarcasm. To be honest you wouldn't understand that a little into the actual relationship.
You were the one to find delores and made her your friend, Five thought you were going crazy for a while.
You both moving to the previously woodsy areas, trying to predict the rain fall.
You both having your firsts in an abandoned building, and staying there for a bit. You try and your your power of growth on a few plants you found, but it was futile.
You both getting into arguements often, (basically teenagers with no real emotional growth) especially when hungry. Expect make up sex after those arguements.
Never truly being comfortable enough to settle down in one place, or have children with five.
After travelling back in time
You both land in fives home, you landing on top of him. Meeting his siblings was weird.
You both go through the kitchen trying to find food for some peanut butter marshmallow sandwiches.
His siblings (more like luther, diego and allison) actively try to stop you both from sharing a room. Much to the annoyance of five.
Lots of makeout sessions, hugs, quick kisses and in general give not keeping his hands to himself which five blames his teenage hormones.
Lots of secret sex.
Five risking his life to get delores after a particularly bad fight between you two.
You watching five losing his mind over trying to stop the end of the world.
B*tch slapping him a few times before he fully falls over the edge. (Good times)
Having a seat in the front row, while you watch the rest of the academy try to stop vanya. (Would probably have a drink and popcorn, cause why not)
Five trying to hurry you up when he sees chunks of the moon come straight towards earth, but you (me) taking your sweet time. Saying and I quote, " I have lived for too long already let me die. At least this way it will be a quick death."
Promptly getting slapped on the back of your head be five before he drags you. (Such an impatient child, tsk tsk)

So Close, yet so Far
Pairings — Dead!Ben Hargreeves x GN!Reader
Summery — Ben is dead. Klaus is helping you cope and recover while you go through the five stages of grief.
Warnings — angst(?), swearing, mention of death, tell me if I missed any <3
A/N — Sorry this took a long time, I was on vacation. I’m not really happy with how this turned out, I’m sorry in advance. I used to be good at writing angst but this one isn’t as sad as I hoped it would be. Constructive criticism and feedback are welcomed!
read part one here.
Tumblr media
━ FIRST STAGE: DENIAL ━━━━
It’s been two days since Klaus came by and broke the news to you. You thought it was crazy, you’ve been alone with your thoughts for 48 hours and you believed that the druggie was pulling on your leg. You thought he was lying, still pulling some sick joke.
It was midday and you stepped out of your house. The gentle breeze brushed past your hair, leaving you with a subtle shiver. Your head was tilted down, eyes fixated on the pavement two feet ahead of you. The ache in your heart eased, but it wasn’t removed. That ache in your heart would come and go like the tides in the ocean.
You approached the Hargreeves Mansion, hand gripping the bars of the numbing gate. You let yourself in, walking along the pathway before knocking on the doors. You’ve never walked up to the Hargreeves Mansion like this. Ben told you that it was too dangerous, but you needed to see him.
The door swung open, revealing the multi-millionaire and father of seven: Reginald Hargreeves. “Whatever you’re selling, I’m not interested.” He shut the door, only to be stopped by your foot.
“I’m not selling anything. I’m here to see your son.” You meant no harm, you were meek and friendly. “Ben?”
“Number Six is long gone. He’s dead. Scram now, Child.”
“He’s not dead,” you pushed the door open and stepped inside the house. “I’m not leaving until I see Ben. Now, where is he?” Your voice began to rise, growing impatient as each second passed.
“Number Six is dead.” He used his walking stick to hit the wall beside you. “Leave my house and leave my family alone. I don’t know who you are. I would never let some filthy unhygienic teenager see my children. Now leave! Don’t make me have to say it again.”
“I’ll take them out.” A voice rang from the top of the stairs.
Reginald turned around with a confident nod. "See to it that they never return, Number One.”
You furrowed your eyebrows, “fine,” with the roll of your eyes, you spun on your heel. You glared at the old man as you left, the blonde boy following behind you.
“I thought Klaus told you Ben died.” Luther whisper-shouted, as if he’d get in trouble if he were caught.
“They did!” You whispered back, “I don’t believe that piece of shit. I know Ben’s still in there, I need to talk to him!”
“Y/n. You don’t understand,” he stopped walking and grabbed your shoulders. “Ben. Is. Gone.” He didn’t want you to get lost in your head. Your mind was a prison and he had to break you out. “I don’t want to believe it the same as you, but we have to face the truth. He’s dead! Ben is dead! We can’t bring him back, that’s not how life works. I’m sorry, but you need to see it. Just let go.”
“You’re lying. You’re lying. Luther, he’s in the Umbrella Academy for fucks sake!” You pushed him off, “he has powers, he doesn’t just die! He’s too strong for that! Plus, none of you guys would let him die, he’s your brother. I just want to see him, is that too hard to ask?” You held your own hand to try and find some warmth, any form of comfort, you needed to feel something.
“Y/n, that’s not possible.” Luther slowly made his way towards you. “It’s not possible.”
“You don’t understand.” You took a step back, “stay away from me.” You forced your legs to pick up your body weight and turn yourself around. You wasted no time walking away from him. You needed someone, you were self-destructive when you were alone, but you couldn't stand being with someone who kept telling you that your first love was dead.
━ ANGER ━━━━
“Hey, hey, hey. I’m sorry. We did everything we could, I did my best.” Every once in a while, Klaus would drop by to check on you. Ben followed them around, but he couldn’t bring himself to see you, not now, not in the state you were in. Ben couldn’t do anything, he couldn’t take care of you, he couldn’t even talk to you. All he could do was watch like you like the screen of a TV. He could yell, he could cry out and shout, but you’d never be able to hear him.
“It wasn't enough,” you hated seeing him. Klaus and that stupid flask of his. “He’s your brother and you let him die.” If stares could kill, they would be on the floor with blood pooling underneath them. “He’s your brother and you let him die! You’re so fucking useless, Klaus. You know that?” You stood up and laughed, sadness and anger evident from the way you stood. “Maybe if you stopped drinking and actually used your head for once in your pathetic life, he’d still be here!”
“It’s not my fault! I did my best! Is that not enough?” Klaus was doing everything he could. Every time he came by he would bring a basket of snacks, he would make sure you were taking care of yourself and showering. Hell, he's taking better care of you than he does himself. “Cut me some slack, Y/n! I’m going through something! My brother died, my family has been shit, and I can’t even get a good night's sleep! I didn’t even have to come and see you. I’m doing this out of the kindness of my own heart. What more do you want?”
“I want Ben back!” You threw the empty glass of water at the wall directly behind them. “And I didn’t ask you to come and check on me.”
“That’s cold,” with a groan, they stood up, stuffing their flask in the pocket of their shorts as they stood up. “You know, I used to think you were nice.” He knew that you didn’t mean to hurt him. He’s never seen you this worked up before. You were the person who was kind and gentle, the one who wouldn’t hurt a fly. “I’m going to come back tomorrow and I hope that your attitude will change.” He walked to the kitchen and grabbed a dustpan and brush. “If Ben saw you like this, he wouldn’t be happy.”
“Don’t use him against me, Asshole. He’s dead.” You sat back down, “maybe if you and your brain-dead siblings could do better then he wouldn’t be. First Five, now Ben. Jesus Christ, you guys are such a great family. Just letting each other die like that!"
They sighed, carefully cleaning the stray pieces of glass and dumping them in the trash. He had no words left to say. It hurt hearing all of this come from a friend. He thought he’d only hear it from his dad, but you too?
“Take care of yourself,” he walked to the door and slipped into his shoes.
“Says the drug addict. You’re going to drop dead any minute now.”
“Get some sleep, you’re a mess.” With that, he left.
━ BARGAINING ━━━━
“I’m really happy you’re here,” you sat beside Klaus on your couch, head resting on his shoulder. A few days have passed and they haven’t stopped checking up on you. Every time he left, you were alone to ponder your thoughts. You finally realized how ungrateful you were being. “I’m sorry for last week. I didn’t mean to yell at you like that.”
“No, it’s okay.” Klaus sat as still as he could, “you’re going through something. It’s normal for some people to get upset and act different.”
“It’s not okay,” you adjusted your position to look at him. “I was being a complete asshole.”
“Don’t stress about it,” he placed a hand on your head, running his fingers through your hair. “I’m just glad that you’re here.”
You nodded and fell silent. You then readjusted your position again, looking down at your lap. You began to wonder what would’ve happened if you and Ben just stayed friends. Would it hurt less? What if you went on that mission he died on with the rest of the Umbrella Academy? A normal kid with no special abilities, assisting the Umbrella Academy with whatever mission they were on.
   “Klaus?”
   “Hm?”
“I wish I was like you.”
They stiffened, sitting up straight as they turned to look at you. “What?”
“Seeing the dead.” You looked back at him.
“Oh no. No, no, no. Y/n you seriously don’t want that. trust me.” He brushed the hair out of your face the way Ben used to. “You don’t want to be like me.” He began to laugh softly, shaking his head. He doesn’t want anyone to experience the misery and trauma he endured as a kid.
You shook your head, “but, Klaus! If I had your powers I could see him. You know I’d do anything to see him. Just once.”
“Even if you could see him, you wouldn't be able to touch him. You can’t hug him. Won’t it hurt if you can see him but can’t… y’know cuddle and shit?”
You shook your head, “it’s better than nothing.”
“Y/n, listen to me.” Klaus moved his body to face you, holding your shoulders in his hands. “I’m the expert here, okay? I know you miss him, I know you want to see him, I know you want to talk to him. But does it occur to you that you should… move on?”
“Move on?” You slapped their hands away. “You don’t know what you’re saying. I can’t just move on!”
“But you can’t sit here and dwell either! It hurts me seeing you like this. When’s the last time you even showered?” Your lack of response proved their point. “I’m worried about you.”
You fixed your posture and sat straight. “I’m sorry.” You were so egocentric, you were never self-centered, but these past few weeks you’ve been disregarding everyone.
“I’m sorry too. I could’ve been a better brother to Ben, a better friend to you. But I’m always selfish, I’ll be honest.” They tried to lighten up the mood by making you feel less bad.
“You’re a good friend. I only wish that things were different. That maybe your powers could… I don’t know, make Ben visible to others. If that’s even possible,” you felt as though you were speaking nonsense. “But it’s fine, you are the expert after all. I don’t know anything.” You nuzzled closer to them again. “I’d give the world to see Ben again.” You weren't sure of many things, like what to eat for breakfast or if you should take a shower, but you would do whatever it takes to see Ben.
━ DEPRESSION ━━━━
Ben came to see you. Every time Klaus went out to party he would go to your house and sit with you. You wouldn’t even know he was there, you never acknowledged his existence, but he was okay with it. He was lucky. He could at least still be in the same room as you.
“That looks nice,” he said. He sat on your bed while he watched you paint at your desk. When Ben’s room was emptied, Klaus put all of his stuff in boxes and gave them to you. All of Ben’s clothes and art supplies… even though you weren’t much of an artist.
Various blues and purples were scattered on the canvas, with black to represent the clouds in the sky and a leafless tree on a small hill. “Fuck,” with one swift movement, you chucked the paintbrush at the floor. It was the little things that ticked you off. You were going to add the stars to the painting but you accidentally used the paintbrush for the black paint and mixed it with the soft white. You didn’t notice until the bristles touched the canvas and it was the final straw. You weren’t a painter and you did everything you could to make the painting perfect, only to ruin it.
“Piece of shit!” Your arms swept along the desk and the small cup of water shattered on the wooden floors while the canvas stained the wall. You knew better than to get mad, but everything made it feel like you were getting dragged to the bottom of the ocean. You were suffocating in your thoughts, the weight of your sorrow kept piling up like a load of bricks, dragging you deeper and deeper into the water. It was like there was no escape. Missing him came in waves, and tonight you were drowning.
“Please take care of yourself,” Ben kept talking like you could hear him. It brought him comfort even though there was no response back. Sometimes he kept talking because he held onto the smallest sliver of hope that you could hear him. “You’re everywhere except here.” He placed a hand over his heart, “and it really hurts.” He stood up and walked over to where you placed your head on your desk, arms wrapped around your head to cover your face. “So close yet so far.” He reached out to move strands of hair away, but the infamous blue light radiated from his fingertips as his hand passed through you.
You wished that things were different. You wanted to greet Ben with a happy birthday when he turned eighteen. You wanted to sit on the rooftop of the tallest building in the city again. You wanted to cling onto him, adrenaline rushing through your veins as he brought you down the building. You’d kill for another date a Griddy’s Doughnuts, talking endlessly until the store closed. But instead, you were left alone in your room, the window open and a trashed-up room.
“You should eat something,” Ben took a seat in the corner of your room. He looked at your body, it was different from how he remembered. It was slimmer, weaker, paler. When was the last time you went outside? “I could prepare something for you. Like… pasta or something. Maybe ramen?” He chuckled, “no, something healthy. I’ll chop up some vegetables and make a salad. Cook some rice and fry some eggs, even though eggs at night are weird... but if I could, I would.”
He watched you sit up, muttering profanities under your breath as you reached for a piece of paper and pencil. You flattened the lined paper on your desk and tilted the lamp on your desk. That small lamp was the only source of light in the room other than the subtle moonlight coming from your window.
   ‘Dear Ben,’
You had a pile of letters in your bedside drawer. A pile of letters that you’d never send because Ben was gone.
‘Dear Ben,  Today was not a good day.’
He stood up and watched you write. He wanted to hear what you had to say, even if it was a rant. You wrote to let your emotions out, a healthy way of coping rather than something stupid.
‘Dear Ben,  Today was not a good day. My dad is overworking himself and my mom’s expectations for me are too high. She thinks I’m okay now, but everything is so hard. She thinks I’m still getting good grades at school. She thinks I’m still waking up early and getting up early. Jesus, she has no idea. If she knows why I’m sad she’ll just tell me to get over it and don’t dwell. She did that before, she told me that I should at least be grateful that it happened because you made me happy. She’s right, but she doesn’t understand.
I go to bed thinking about you every night. You don’t understand how special you made me feel, even though I never got to wake up with you by my side. You were a comet and I lost it. You came and went like a shooting star, staying long enough to make me feel lucky before suddenly leaving. Will I ever see you again? Fuck, how can I breathe with this burning in my chest? You were gone so fast. I want you back. All of the memories we made are slipping through the past like an hourglass. I guess we don’t get to do all the things we said we would, huh?
Time passes by really fast. I never thought I’d wind up one step behind in my life. I’m just wasting it away sitting here and dwelling. Tomorrow is going to be a better day. I’m going to live a little harder and make every minute last longer. I don’t know how much time I’ll have, but I’ll live life for the both of us.
Still thinking about you. I love you, Ben.  Love, Y/n.’
Ben smiled in the end, “you’re getting better.” His eyes scanned the page once more, stopping at the last sentence. He loved the way your handwriting spelled out his name. “I’m proud of you.” He kissed his hand, then held it out to touch your cheek. “Get some sleep, Sweetheart. You need it.” Ben stayed until you settled in and fell asleep, sitting on a chair by the side of your bed.
━ ACCEPTANCE ━━━━
“You look amazing,” Klaus stood behind you, hands on your shoulder while he looked into the full-length mirror in front of you two, “absolutely stunning.”
“Oh shucks,” you brushed their hands off your shoulders and flopped onto his bed. “I don’t have a good feeling about this, Klaus.”
“Come onnn. You gotta live a bit more. Loosen up!” They grabbed your hands and began dancing around the room.
“Ben doesn’t like parties.” You followed his lead. The dance was fast-paced and messy, it had no proper foot movement. “Is he here right now?”
“Hey, we talked about this.” Klaus planted his feet and ruffled up your hair. “He walked to the light. He claimed his spot in heaven. That lucky bastard, he has no responsibilities anymore.”
You chuckled, “I guess so. No responsibilities sound amazing. Adulthood is overrated.” You laughed, moving the messed-up strands of hair out of your face. “A part of me just hopes that… he’s still around, y'know? I just need to let go.”
“And that’s why we are going to party!” He took a dramatic step back and grabbed his coat. “Come on.” He held his hand out.
You took his hand, nuzzling into the scarf that wrapped around your neck to keep you warm as you walked to whoever’s house this party was being held at.
“Bullshit,” Ben muttered under his breath. He made eye contact with his brother from the other side of the room before the two walked out the door.
