i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.

i love how they’re showing us annabeth’s fatal flaw by having her not back down from any argument whatsoever against opponents she clearly should be placating, not provoking. first with medusa and then with the police officer. her wisdom should tell her that it’s better to bite down and avoid confrontation but her pride, her hubris won’t let her and i think it’s so fitting. it builds her up as a character even though we know it’s a flaw that will get her into major trouble one day.

I see a lot of people talking about the duel between Luke and Percy, and while a lot of people are correctly interpreting the moment where Percy cuts Luke and immediately apologizes and lowers his guard as another moment revealing Percy's fatal flaw --loyalty and love for his friends, an inability to contemplate betrayal and a habit of giving mercy/redemption to those people-- I think a lot of people are misinterpreting, or glossing over the next moment--when Luke retaliates
people seems to be reading the moment where Luke strikes Percy back, knocking him to the ground and drawing blood as a comment on Luke's cruelty and violence,(in contrast with Percy's loyalty and mercy) and while i don't think that's wrong, I think a better way to look at the moment is that Luke's reaction reveals his fatal flaw.
its never explicitly stated in the books, But Rick Riordan mentioned it after The Last Olympian in interviews. Lukes fatal flaw is Wrath. he is angry, blindingly, overwhelmingly angry at the gods, and Kronos is able to manipulate and twist that anger until things go so far Luke is forced to destroy himself to save the world
The duel between Luke and Percy is such a brillant scene, yes because Luke and Percy are foils, yes we see Percy's fatal flaw in Crystal clarity. but we see Luke's too--he reacts in a surge of anger knocking Percy to the ground, making him bleed, ignoring Percys apology because in the moment he doesn't care about reconciliation only revenge, he hesitates only just before killing Percy, his rage taking over. Luke doesn't make Percy bleed in this scene in a moment of cold or calculated cruelty. its swift burning and unthinking anger. its his doom. because the next moment Annabeth reveals herself, sides with Percy, and Luke runs off, isolated, where, if you've read the books, he becomes even more tragically isolated from his friends and vulnerable to Kronos' manipulation
Loyalty and Wrath cost them both in that fight. their fatal flaws indeed.

No because Percy's fatal flaw is loyalty, he could never have entertained Medusa's offer. He was always going to place himself between his friends and Chimera, and he was always going to sit in Hera's throne. He'll hold the sky for her, and trust that she'll find a way to save him.
And Annabeth's fatal flaw is Hubris, it's why she was so sure her loyalty to here mother would be enough. It's why she tried to foil Hephaestus' creation when her own mother failed to do so. It's why she needs to hear the sirens and why she can't apologize to Tyson.

i love the parallels in house of hades with annabeth and percys fatal flaws. They got stuck in tartarus because Annabeth’s hubris made her think she defeated Arachne, and Percy’s loyalty made him fall with her. Meanwhile, they escaped because Annabeth had to realize she can’t be the best and do everything herself, letting bob take the lead. And Percy had to leave bob behind denying his loyalty.

we know that percys fatal flaw is loyalty, annabeths is hubris, what about the rest?? is there like a list where every demigod has to have one of them or is it like a big variety? do satyrs and nymphs not have any?? do the godly parent of the demigod contribute to the flaws?? it also seems that some fatal flaws are more common than others? these so called “fatal flaws” are so interesting and im mad at rick for not saying the rest of the seven + nico n reyna and other characters

so we kinda understand where annabeth’s fatal flaw–hubris–stems from but when i think about percy’s fatal flaw and how he came to be so loyal that it’s a danger to his ownself, i think it’s all about how in his entire childhood sally was the ONLY person he could rely on, the only person that cared for him and loved him unconditionally. grover came into his life much much later but he grasps onto grover just as tightly because these connections–sally and grover–are the only positive ones he’s ever had. his peers bullied him or didn’t understand him, gabe was an abusive piece of shit, his father was a deadbeat, he was kicked out of schools regularly, he was ostracised, alienated, made to feel extremely lonely.
and because percy was so lonely, he came to treasure those who cared for him with so much fierceness. it was because he was showed so little loyalty, that he came to practice his own loyalty with very little reservations. he didn’t have many people in his life that he could call his own, that he could cherish, so he gave those few he could his all and then some.
this is why he is so extremely devoted to sally, why he is always loyal to grover, why he is okay with giving up his life for a friendly acquaintance/one-day long friend annabeth.
he is loyal to a fault because he once wished he’d have more people be loyal to him.

wanted to do some color-themed oc + otherwise groups… maybe got a little carried away!! 💦💦 I was just making these for fun, but now my brain is all over wondering what they'd be like working together on something. a game show. a social experiment on an island. they have to work together to solve puzzles or fight things and run into each other along the way. you know how it is.
I started thinking about how edward would immediately become the leader of team red, how drew is surrounded by a bunch of ladies with a thirst for violence plus an evil god chicken, how arthur would dedicate himself to protecting his group (and tolerating felix) and how he carries the entire team, how team green has the most argumentative people that are barely being held together, and how team purple is pretty good at getting along and has a comical dynamic considering it contains dez, monster people AND louis. I was gonna say team blue is the obligatory disadvantaged team, but they have the most hilarious family dynamic and are led by the biggest pacifists of everyone here and will probably end up befriending a dragon. also kage is there and he's the weird uncle.
list of characters:
team red:
edward quinton (ibvs) 16 year-old with stringy powers
