Falling Back
11/14/2023
(Unedited)
It's breezier today
and the leaves rain down
like a soft sigh
over the morning commute.
In the early sunshine--
weaker now, in November--
later now, after falling back--
the dust brown leaves glow golden.
The darkness these days is heavy on me
and I wish I could sleep through
til' spring alights--
but, begrudgingly
there's beauty in changes.
They glitter like the piercing winter sky
through bare branches.
Can I hold onto these sparks?
Light a fire to see me warm and safe
through the long nights?
Are they light enough to
buoy my sinking self?
If I cast out my palms
and catch a small dun leaf,
can I scatter away with it
to find our rest in the earth?
How long will the leaves
cling to my windshield
as I move forward,
despite it all?

[Untitled Poetry 10/30/23]
The hush of the first freeze
Creeping of dew and frost
Encroaching my perfect garden rows
Illuminating and screaming
That I didn’t really know
What I was seeing
That i had never really seen it before
I was told
there is nothing more beautiful
Nothing more sacred
Than a field of roses
So I lined them up
Perfect
Pristine
Red and full
And I watched them dry up
Fall away
and die
