Serial Killer Farmer Joel x librarian!f!reader
Warnings: Dead Dove/dark fic, horror! death, reader & Joel are both killers, animal death (it’s not explicit but more so just implied), p in v (protect your genitalia!!), face slaps,m/m kissing I think that’s it, let me know if I missed something, all mistakes are mine! Not edited or beta’d!
Summary: Its the fall of 1969, it’s been five years since Chesterfield had a string of murders linked to the Scarecrow Killer. New to town, you moved into a little trailer out in the woods near the infamous Farmer Joel and his famous corn maze. . .
A/n: yea yea I know I said farmer Joel was a one shot. Well he wanted y’all to have more of him so enjoy
Nothing but shades of red, orange and yellow as far as you can see stretch on for miles and miles on either side of the road your currently driving down. Time of the Season by the Zombies is flowing out of your car speakers as you hum along, thrumming your thumbs on the steering wheel. It’s 8:25 am and your on your way to the town library where you work. You recently moved to Chesterfield a few months ago after a nasty breakup. Needing to do some soul searching, you went on a drive that lasted hours and just so happened to come across this cute little town. Low on gas and a hungry tummy, you decided to stop at the local diner for some pancakes and couldn’t help but fall in love. Now here you are just a few months later, living in a nice little trailer out in the woods a few miles out of town, working at the library. You got to spend all your time surrounded by books and then went home to peace and quiet. Well mostly quiet. You’ve always had these rather loud thoughts in your head, these urges to hurt. To inflict pain. You never acted on these urges, burying it deep within yourself. But living out in the woods, you were finally able to let these urges win. Nobody is gonna care if a wild squirrel goes missing.

Eyes popping open as a shiver runs through his body, Joel wakes up freezing. He goes to pull the blanket tighter around himself to fight off the cold. The heat must’ve stopped working at some point in the night judging by the way he can see his breath when he opens his mouth and let’s out a puff of air. Letting out an exhausted sigh, Joel reluctantly gets out of bed and starts to get ready for the day. He’s not very well versed in the mechanics of how to fix a heater so he’s decided to go to the library and see what info he can find about it.
The rumble of his truck engine roars as he pulls into the Chesterfield Library parking lot. Coming to a halt in a spot, he cuts the engine and gets out, slamming the truck door. Standing by his truck, Joel looks around, taking in his environment. He’s not a fan of having to come into town. Ever since he last killed in 1965 he’s been very leery of the townsfolk. Some might call it paranoia even though Joel knows there’s no way for anyone to trace the murders back to him. He is very thorough in his work, yet he can’t help but be suspicious of other people.
Walking through the doors, a burst of heat slapping him in the face. His eyes landing on a pretty little thing sitting behind the front desk, just off to the side. Your beauty stopped him in his tracks, just standing there, unable to take his eyes off of you. Someone clears their throat behind him, causing Joel to blink a few times to break the spell you unknowingly cast on him. He turned his head to see someone trying to get past him, Joel nods at the person as he moves out of the way. Scuffling his feet, he makes his way to the desk your sitting at when he clears his throat. You look up at him with these beautiful wide eyes and the prettiest smile on your lips, Joel almost forgets what he came here for.
“Hi - i um Hello. I am looking for books on how to work on heaters please.” He manages to sputter out, eyes darting every which way refusing to look you in the eye.
Your smile widens, “Hi! Ohmygosh! You’re Farmer Joel right? You have the famous corn maze I’ve been hearing about? Actually I’m pretty sure we’re neighbors! Haha! What a small world!” You ramble, noticing his eyes stop on your face with a look on his face that says he’s either got bad constipation or he absolutely hates people interactions and you won’t shut up, “oh heaters! Yes! Yea we have a whole section in the back on home repairs and such. You should be able to find something. It’s straight back and to your left, I can take you there if you’d like?”
Grunting, he shakes his head no, “uh n- no. I got it. Thanks.” He says in a gruff voice before walking off to the back.
🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
Sliding the key into your front door, you can’t wait to get inside and drown yourself in some wine after the day you had. Joel Miller. The Joel Miller came into your library and you spoke to him. Like actual words came out of your mouth and his ears heard them. Why are you like this?? He’s just a man! But he’s so stupidly handsome and hot and oh those salt and pepper curls of his and that patchy beard you wish you felt between your thighs all too often. You knew exactly who he was when he walked in this afternoon. Shortly after moving in, you decided to go exploring around in the woods and came across a barn. You saw the barn before you saw the nice little two story farmhouse off to the side a little ways away. Walking up to the back of the barn, you heard grunting and decided to take a peak into a crack in the wood. That’s when you first saw him. His back was to you as he chopped wood. He had a red flannel on with the sleeves pushed up so his forearms were on display. Sweat dripping down his neck as he pulled the axe back and swung down cutting a thick piece of wood in two. He dropped the axe and turned to the side as he wiped his brow. That’s the very first time you saw him. Lost in a daze you accidentally stepped on a twig, trying to get on your tippy toes to get a better look and he quickly snapped his head in your direction. Holding your breath, the both of you seemed to stop moving entirely. You staring at him and him staring back, even though you knew he couldn’t have actually seen you, you were still terrified he did. That night you couldn’t stop bringing yourself to ecstasy. Orgasm after orgasm, your fingers were all pruned from your juices after you were done.
Snapping back to reality, you fling yourself onto your bed. Looking up at your ceiling, you let out a long, exhausted sigh,
“What the hell is wrong with you? He is a fucking farmer for Christ’s sake. Not fucking John Lennon. Ughhh”
🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
It’s already a quarter past 4 and Joel still hasn’t managed to fix his heater. He borrowed several books that are now all strewn across his kitchen floor as he tries for the umpteenth time to fix this damn thing. On his knees, bent over, Joel’s cranking a wrench, using all his strength to get this damn bolt off. The wrench slips causing Joel to fall forward. Grabbing the wrench, he throws it across the room, “Fuck!” He yelled before getting up and stomping outside. He is furious! It shouldn’t be this hard to fix a stupid fucking heater! And of course he doesn’t have any more time to waste on it because he has to open up his corn maze. People are gonna start pulling in soon.
The rest of the night isn’t any nicer to the old man either. Had several teenagers come through being rude as hell. Although it’s been awhile, Joel is still so worked up he’s decided he’s gonna grab the last little group of teens going through and kill them to let off some steam. It’s already after 9pm and everyone else is gone. He starts off doing what he usually does, he turns off the outdoor lights before making his way through the corn stalks to grab his first victim.
It was three teen boys. Football players. With loud, obnoxious mouths on them and attitudes that clearly show they’ve never been told no a day in their lives. The first two were pretty easy kills. They had separated from the third boy, apparently to sneak in some alone time with each other. Joel found them making out under the moonlight. He struck them with a pitchfork, it went in one boys head and through the other boys head, getting both of them at once. As he’s dragging their bodies inside his barn, the third boy stumbles upon him. Joel immediately drops them and goes to lunge towards the boy. Joel isn’t young, he can’t move like he used too. But before Joel even makes it out of his barn, the boy suddenly stops as if he hit a wall and then Joel hears a thwack and the kid falls down with a sickening thud. Joel’s eyes go huge when he sees you standing on the other side of the kid holding a 2 x 4 piece of wood. Frozen, all he can do is watch you as you raise the wood above your head and bring it down, Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! The kids body laying there, his head resembles a pumpkin that just fell off the roof of a house. Blood and brains everywhere, you had blood splatter covering your face, brain matter covered your clothes, hands were a dark red. After the third bash, you drop the wood, stand up straight and look at Joel with those beautiful wide, doe eyes.
🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
It was late when you decided to go for a walk. You just so happen to find yourself walking up to Joel’s barn when the lights go out. You heard a faint slick squelching sound. You quickly run to the side of the barn and flatten yourself against the wall. You see a 2 x 4 piece of wood laying on the ground that you decide to pick up in case you need to defend yourself. With your back to the barn you quietly side step until your at the corner of the building. Taking some deep breaths , you finally get yourself it somewhat calmed before you take a peek around the corner. There’s a light on in the barn and that’s the only light source other than the moon. That’s when you see Joel dragging two bodies by the ankles towards the barn.
Oh my god. Joel? The man of your dreams dragging bodies? Does this mean what you think it means? Do the two of you share this little activity in common?
Before you think or say or do anything, some teenager comes running out of the corn maze and comes to an abrupt halt just a body’s length away from Joel. He looks absolutely frightened at what he sees. Joel immediately drops the ankles and raises his hands up in surrender, his brows raising before he lunges towards the kid. The kid takes off heading in your direction. Thinking quick on your feet you pop out of your hiding spot, stunning the young man before you thwack him in the head. His body falls to the side, hitting the cold, hard ground with a heavy thud. Unable to stop yourself, you raise the board above your head and bring it down hard on the kids head repeatedly. The thrill of decimating his head is just, ugh! The best fucking high of your life! The way his head just smooshes, the blood and the brains flying out. There’s just something satisfying about it.
Once you’re sure he’s deader than a door nail, you drop the board and straighten back up. A sigh of relief and a small smile lights up your face as you look at your little scene. You remember where you are and you look up and your eyes go right to Joel as he just stands there, staring at you with those big, brown eyes. A look of admiration and shock on his face, that’s when it hits you, he didn’t know you were here. Oops. Well now he knows.
Despite being covered in blood and brains, you take charge and walk right up to Joel, grab his face and plant the biggest kiss on his lips.
Joel’s shocked as hell. You’re the pretty little librarian from earlier. What the hell were you doing at his place? And what the hell just happened? The way you took that kid out was. . Well it was hot. Watching you beat that kids head in with this deranged look on your face made his dick throb. If he thought he wanted you when he first saw you, well then he’s gotta have you now and by the kiss you’re giving him right now, it seems you want him just as bad.
Your tongue pushes in between his luscious lips as you enthusiastically lick the inside of his mouth, tasting him. When you feel him return the kiss just as enthusiastic, you can’t help but let out a muffled moan. You were already horny thinking about the handsome farmer on your walk over here and then getting to act on an urge has you dripping wet. Joel wraps his arms around you as the two of you continue to lick and taste each other. You feel his hands move down and grip the back of your thighs, so you grab onto his shoulders and let him hoist you up, wrapping your legs around his waist. Joel carries you inside the barn, pushing you up against the wall just inside the door. Your lips on his never breaking the whole time. You grind your cunt onto the front of Joel, feeling his huge erection through his overalls. Joel breaks away, leaving a kiss on the side of your mouth as he trails kisses down your neck before biting down on the sensitive part of your neck and sucking.
You let out a loud moan as he bites down on your neck, gripping the curls at the base of his head. You can’t hold back any longer, you use your body weight and push against him, making him break the connection of his lips on your neck as he stumbles back. You land on your feet, gripping his flannel as he slowly stumbles back on his ass. Immediately you straddle his thick waist as he lands on his butt. You push the top half of him down on this little pile of hay he landed on, still gripping his flannel, you give him a devious smile
“You like this baby? Huh? You like watching me kill? Does that turn you on?” You say in a seductive voice as you lean forward, putting a hand around his neck, lightly choking him. Joel looks up at you with the horniest look in his eyes, so turned on he can’t form the words he wants to say. He lets out a moan like grunt at your question, licking his lips.
You give him this empathetic pout. “Oh poor baby. Look at you. Pathetic.” You pronounce that last word with venom laced in your voice. You raise your other hand and slap his face. Not too hard but hard enough his face turned to the side and his cheek got red where you hit him. He turns his face back to look at you, shocked.
“Use your words big boy,” you slap his face again, “You like this baby? You wanna fuck my tight cunt? Yea you do baby. I wanna feel that huge dick your hiding fill me up.” You say, a moan escaping as Joel thrusts up under you.
“Fucking hell girl, you keep this up I’ll give you this dick every damn day darlin’” Joel finally manages to say. Moving his hands off your hips, Joel scrambles to undo his overall straps to pull it down. Your quick to lift up off him and help pull them down to reveal his boxers that your quick to pull down, Joel lifting his hips to help you remove them.
You swear your eyes bulge out of your head when you see his cock. At least a good seven inches, decent girth and uncut. Your mouth drops open as you literally drool at the sight of him. Lifting up your dress, you spit in your hand and go to lube up his dick. You weren’t wearing panties since you took them off after work so you could finger your poor pussy relentlessly to thoughts of Joel. Gripping his cock, you sink down on his hard length, the stretch of taking him hurts so good. Your barely past the tip and already your eyes are rolling back. You’re no virgin by any means but you’ve only ever had one partner. And his dick was no where near the size or girth of Joel’s. You almost have to stop mid way down and take a deep breath so you don’t hurt yourself.
Joel’s big, meaty hands are gripping your hips as he bites his bottom lip trying his best to restrain himself from fucking up into your wet heat. He can tell by the look on your face he’s a lot to take. Finally you sink all the way down on his cock.
Letting out a moan, you’ve never felt more full. You clench your pussy a couple of times earning an unabashed moan from this big hunk of a man before he moves his hips up, pushing his cock deeper into you.
“J- Joel ohmygod I can feel you in my stomach! Ooooh nngh oh Joel fuck me!”
Joel puts his hand on your lower stomach and presses down as he moves his hips up, causing you to go up and down on top of him.
“Fuck darlin I can feel me in there too. You’re so tight baby f-fuuucccckkkk ride me darlin’ come on ride. this. old. cowboy.” Joel says, punctuating the last few words with a thrust. You manage to collect yourself, still on your knees straddling him, your hands finding purchase on his chest, you begin to rock back and forth before moving up and down. You find a rhythm going back and forth between the motions that feels so good. His cock kissing your cervix as your tight walls hug him. Joel puts his thumb up to your mouth and you take it, sucking his digit. The both of you groaning at the erotic moment. Joel takes his thumb out and moves down to your clit where he begins to rub small, precise circles around your button. It takes no time for your pleasure to build. Actually you were already rather close just from how good his cock felt penetrating you.
“Oh god Joel yes! Yes! Fuck don’t stop!” You yell as you begin to ride him harder, your pussy gripping his cock even tighter, “f-fill my cunt up! I-I want you deep inside of me baby! Please! Oh fuck please!”
Groaning at hearing you say you want his cum deep inside of you has Joel’s eyes rolling back. Just a few more circles on your clit has you over the edge, coming hard on his dick. You slump forward, laying your chest on his as he wraps his arms around you, holding you to him as he begins to thrust up into your wet cunt. Feeling your pussy spasm around his cock, it takes no time before Joel’s shooting his thick load deep inside of you. You lay your forehead on his as you both close your eyes, breathing heavily, coming down from your high.
“Darlin’ I don’t even know your name but I’d love to marry you.” Joel says with a chuckle. Giggling you tell him your name as you sit up and move to get up off of him. Your legs still jelly so you kinda fall over to the side and lay down on the hay pile next to him.
“When I saw you at the library today you took my breath away. You’re so pretty.”
You’re little post sex smile grew into a huge grin, “I have to be honest, I live not that far away from you. Not long after I moved in, I went explorin and found your barn and saw you chop some wood. I’ve had eyes for you ever since.”
Your little confession made Joel blush.
“Would you like to come inside my house? I can clean you up and I can put a pot of coffee on and we can talk? Unless you wanna leave?” Joel asks sheepishly.
“I would love too!” You say excitedly before placing a soft kiss on his lips.
When the two of you finally got up and went inside, you guys talked until the sun came up. You never did go back home after that. Soon his house became yours too.

You're Safe Here With Me (Spencer Reid x Fem!reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: hi there! this is the first time I'm publicly sharing fic i wrote and I'm really nervous about it, please be nice 😅
I was rewatching season 8 and wanted to write something about comforting Spencer after Maeve died. Hope you enjoy! <3
-Mod Angel
~~~
I couldn’t get his sad face out of my head.
What he was going through… it was horrible. I couldn’t even imagine what kind of thoughts were going through his mind right now.
I fidgeted as I walked up the stairs of his apartment building. I wasn’t sure if he’d want to see me, but I had to try.
When I came to his door, I took a deep breath before knocking.
No answer.
I knocked again. “Spence?” I asked softly. “Are you there?”
Still no answer. I thought I heard movement in the apartment, so I figured I’d try my luck. “… Can I come in?”
There was a little pause of hesitation before I heard the door unlock. It didn’t open, it just unlocked. I heard more movement that sounded like it was getting farther away.
I took that as a signal and turned the knob, slowly opening the door. “Spence…?” I asked again, walking in and closing the door behind me. He didn’t answer, but I heard movement on the couch.
I walked toward the couch, putting my hands on top of it as I looked to see him curled up and looking at the floor. He wore paisley pajamas and a robe. It was weird to see him so dressed down.
“Hey…” I spoke softly, trying to make my voice as comforting as possible. He stirred a bit, but he didn’t look at me.
I sighed and moved to the front of the couch, crouching down so I was level with him. Finally, he looked up at me with those big, sad eyes of his. I could tell he had been crying.
“… is it okay if I sit down?” I asked after a moment.
He slowly nodded and sat up slightly so there was room for me to sit by his feet. I slowly lowered myself onto the couch, and he sat up a bit more to look at me, hugging his knees to his chest.
I gave him a sad look back. “Everyone is worried about you” I said softly, not wanting to push him, but needing him to know we all care about him. “Obviously no one expects you to be okay… but we need you to know we’re here for you if you need help.”
He closed his eyes and nodded slowly. “Thank you…” he spoke for the first time since I got here, his voice deep and quiet.
I just nodded at him. “Of course. I’m glad you let me in here. I know you must not want to see anyone right now, so… thank you for letting me in.”
He nodded again, hugging his legs closer to his chest. “I know you just want to help.” His voice was still low, barely above a whisper. He sounded a little shaky.
 I looked at him sympathetically. “Do you want to talk about it?” I asked softly.
He closed his eyes for a moment, as if thinking it over. He was obviously fighting the urge to keep everything inside. “Do you ever feel like… like the universe is working against you?”
I gave him another sad look. “Spence…”
He took a deep breath before continuing. “My whole life, I’ve felt like I could never have what everyone else has. A normal life. I kept busy with school and work and tried not to think about it, but I… I craved that little bit of normalcy. Someone to spend my days with. Someone who could…” He swallowed a bit. “Someone who could show me the few things I didn’t know… and now…” A few tears started to fall from his eyes. “Now I know I’ll never have that.”
I moved closer to him without thinking, my hands moving to wipe the tears from his cheeks. “Hey, don’t say that… this wasn’t your only opportunity. Someday, someone’s going to show you what it’s like to be loved like that.”
His eyes caught mine when I touched his face. I didn’t even realize I had done it; my body had moved on its own.
I started to pull my hand away. “I’m sorry…” I started, lifting my hand off his face. But then his hands found mine and moved it so I was cupping his cheek again. He closed his eyes and kept his hands on mine, holding my hand to his face.
I moved a little closer, my other hand moving to stroke his hair. “It’s okay…” I spoke quietly, trying to soothe him. I didn’t think he’d want to be touched like this. It made my heart ache to see him so broken like this.
Suddenly, he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close to him and resting his head on my shoulder. After a moment of shock, I wrapped my arms around him, rubbing soothing circles on his back and resting my chin on top of his head.
We sat there like that for a few moments, neither of us saying anything, just sitting in silence as I comforted him as much as he needed.
After a moment, he pulled away, rubbing his eyes. He took a deep breath to try to calm himself down. “Sorry…” he whispered.
I shook my head. “No need to apologize. I’m here to be whatever you need, Spencer. And if what you need is a shoulder to cry on, I’m glad to be that for you.”
He nodded slowly, looking at me again with those big eyes of his. He hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Did you… really mean that?”
I gave him a slightly puzzled look. “Did I mean that I’m here for you?”
He shook his head. “Did you mean it… when you said someone’s going to show me what it’s like to be loved?” His eyes looked almost pleading when he asked this.
I reached up to touch his cheek again. “Of course I mean it. There’s… there’s so much to love about you. It’s only a matter of time before someone realizes how special you are and… and they know that you’re someone they should never let go…” I looked into his eyes intensely as I spoke, the words just flowing out of my mouth before I realized what I was saying.
He looked at me so sweetly, his gaze softening as he listened to me. “You… you really think that about me?”
“I…” I started, moving my hand away from his face. I knew this wasn’t what he needed right now. All the grief was still so fresh; I didn’t need my own feelings making him feel complicated. I didn’t want to take advantage of him when he was being so vulnerable with me. “I didn’t mean… I’m sorry. You don’t… you don’t need me saying these things to you right now…”
He shook his head, his gaze more intense. “I do.” he said, his voice a little louder, a little more sure now. He took a deep breath and I saw his eyes move down to my lips for a moment.
I met his eyes, my breath quickening as I felt the moment between us changing. “I… I don’t need to… to make you feel like you need to rush into something… your emotions are still fresh, I shouldn’t be interfering with them.”
He moved a little closer to me. “I… I need you.” His voice was a whisper, just loud enough for me to hear. “And I… I need you to tell me… to show me that I’m not going to be alone for the rest of my life.”
I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to let my better judgment take over. But he looked so hurt. It was just something to comfort him… it was something he needed.
I opened my eyes and nodded, leaning in a little. “You’re not going to be alone, Spence. We’re… I’m here to let you know that.”
His breath quickened as he leaned in closer. We inched closer, closer, until our mouths finally found each other. I tried to absorb all his sadness and grief and pain, tried to fill him with the love and comfort and kindness that he deserved. I made the kiss last so he could understand that everything was going to be okay. Kiss it, make it better, the old saying goes.
After a few moments, we pulled away, his eyes opening and finding mine. He looked… a little better. He looked much more calm, as if those few moments were all he needed. At least for now. I knew I couldn’t just take all his sadness away forever like that. But it warmed my heart that it seemed to help.
He looked at me with those big, pleading eyes of his. “Can you… stay for a while?”
I nodded and smiled a bit, my hand stroking his hair gently. “Of course. I’ll stay for as long as you need.”
. . .
I started spending a lot of time at Spencer’s apartment. We spent the time doing whatever we could think of: watching tv, playing board games, just talking… whatever he needed to keep his mind busy. I was always there when he needed company. I was there so often that he started keeping my favorite foods in his kitchen, probably as a peace offering when he felt bad I was spending so much time there. I tried to tell him I really don’t mind, but he insisted it wasn’t a problem.
When words weren’t enough to comfort him, we’d go back to that kiss. But we didn’t spend all our time kissing, and it was never anything more than that. It was just when he needed a little more reassurance, a little extra affection.
He started asking me to stay the night, explaining that everything felt worse when he was alone in bed. I knew he didn’t mean it in any way that wasn’t innocent. He had only the most pure intentions.
The first night, he let me borrow some of his clothes because he didn’t want me to leave to get my own pajamas. He let me go to the bathroom to change, letting me have my privacy. Not overstepping anything.
I climbed into bed with him, holding him like he needed me to. I’d do anything to take his sadness away. He knew that, but he never did anything that wasn’t well-intentioned. I knew he wouldn’t take advantage of my kindness the same way he knew I wouldn’t take advantage of his vulnerability.
After that night, I always brought my pajamas when I came to visit him. Our nights usually ended with me holding him until we both fell asleep. He had a lot of nightmares, which was understandable. He’d wake up crying in the middle of the night and I’d soothe him back to sleep. Shh, shh, it’s alright. I’m here.
When he fully woke up in the morning, he would always apologize that he was waking me in the middle of the night. I told him I really didn’t mind. I told him that the last time I went through a breakup, I had nightmares for a long time, and I didn’t go through something half as traumatic as him. He kept apologizing anyway, but he didn’t want me to leave, so he didn’t push too much. He apologized, but he still asked me to stay. And I always did.
Eventually, he returned to work, and we stayed professional, but it was obvious something had changed between us. He’d always sit next to me, he’d bring me my coffee in the morning… Everyone must have noticed a change, but they didn’t say anything.
Sometimes, if we were out on a case and he started feeling sad, he would come into my hotel room at night. I’d hold him until he started to feel better, and he would return to his own room to go to sleep. He never stayed in my room overnight; we both knew we’d have to explain everything to the team if they noticed we were spending the night together. And neither of us wanted to explain it. I don’t know if either of us could explain it. We just understood each other. Everyone else would twist it and make it something it wasn’t.
Until one day, it was.
. . .
“I was thinking today we could actually go out somewhere.”
Spencer had called me on my cell phone, which was pretty rare considering his aversion to technology. Usually I just assumed I would come over to his apartment. He even gave me a key so I didn’t have to knock anymore.
“You want to go somewhere?” I asked. This was… new. “Like where?”
He cleared his throat. He seemed a little nervous. “I was thinking we could go out to dinner.”
I paused for a moment. I wasn’t sure if he meant it like… well, I was too afraid to ask what he meant by that. “Yeah, sure, we can do that,” I answered, trying to hide my own nervousness. “Where do you want to go? I can meet you there-“
“I was thinking I could pick you up,” he interrupted. I furrowed my brows. He didn’t usually like to drive.
But, again, I was too afraid to question him. “… Okay. Yeah. Thanks. I’ll be ready in a few minutes.”
He let out a breath that he seemed to be holding the whole time he was waiting for me to answer. “Good. I’ll be there in a bit.” We said our goodbyes before hanging up.
I took a deep breath and looked in my closet, wondering what I should wear. Usually I just threw on sweats when I came to his apartment because I knew I’d eventually be changing into pajamas anyway.
Maybe a dress would be too much. Maybe he didn’t mean it in that way. I thought about his nervous voice, and how that nervousness turned to eagerness when I said yes. Did he… want this to be a date? His first date?
I decided on a plain cotton maxi tank dress. It was casual enough that it could pass off as a normal outfit. If this wasn’t what I thought, and he asked why I was dressed like this, I could just say I’m behind on laundry. He’d believe that, considering I don’t spend a lot of time in my own apartment anymore.
I put on a little makeup, just something subtle, before putting on the dress. I put my hair up in a bun and slipped into some flats to match the dress. Just as I was finished getting ready, I heard a knock at the door.
I put my phone, wallet, and keys into a purse before throwing it over my shoulder and opening the door.
Spencer seemed a little surprised, his eyes looking me up and down when he saw me in a dress. He was dressed basically exactly like he does at work: a button up, vest, dress pants, converse. He was wearing a jacket instead of a cardigan today.
I blushed a little when I saw him looking at me so intensely. I broke the silence by shutting the door behind me, which seemed to snap him out of whatever thoughts he was having. “So…” I started. “Where are we going?”
He smiled down at me. I loved it when he smiled. I didn’t see him smile a whole lot since a lot of my time with him was when I was comforting him, but when he did smile it made my heart melt.
He took my arm in his, which surprised me a little. “There’s a restaurant I’ve been meaning to check out. I figured we could try it together.” He started to lead me to his car.
I smiled as we walked arm in arm. I was struggling a bit to keep up and I wished I had worn heels instead of flats. I always forgot just how tall he was.
He opened the passenger side door for me, and I smiled at him as I sat down and he closed the door behind me, careful that my foot or my dress wouldn’t get caught in the door. He walked around to the driver’s side and started the car.
We drove in silence for a few minutes. He was fidgeting a lot. I figured I needed to ask him what this was before we got there. I needed to know what he expected from me so I could give him exactly what he needed.
“So…” I started. “Are you going to tell me what you’re thinking right now?”
He cleared his throat. “I’m thinking we’re going to dinner.”
I sighed. I didn’t want to have to pry this out of him, but it looked like I was going to. “Spence. You hate a change in routine. And you hate trying new things. What’s up?”
He stirred in his seat a little bit. He let out a little sigh. “I…” he didn’t finish his thought.
I looked at him, trying to catch his eye in the rearview mirror. “Is this… supposed to be a date?” My tone was soft to let him know it was alright.
He tensed a little bit but nodded.
“And you weren’t going to tell me that you wanted it to be a date?”
He hesitated a moment. “I was afraid you’d say no.”
I gave him a soft look. “But you know it wouldn’t be a date if you didn’t tell me that it was supposed to be a date, right?”
He opened his mouth and closed it again before speaking. “I… didn’t really think that far,” he admitted.
He pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. He went to get out of the car but I stopped him by putting my hand on his arm. “Are you sure about this?” I asked.
He gave me a look that was almost… scared. “Do you not want this? I’m sorry if I-“
“That’s not my issue” I cut him off. “I just… I want to make sure you’re ready for this.” Ready for us to change, I thought. But I didn’t say that out loud.
He nodded determinedly, giving me an intense look. “I… I really love spending time with you, you know? And I really want something more between us.” He looked a little shy, but he spoke definitively. His voice was softer when he added, “you’re the only person I would even consider being with.”
I gave him a soft smile when he said that. “Really? Are you sure it’s not just because I helped you through something traumatic?”
He took a deep breath before speaking again. “It’s become so much more than that. I can’t imagine not spending all my time with you. And… you make me feel so safe. I know I can count on you. I know you’d never hurt me.”
I just nodded at him. It was true. I would never, ever hurt him. And I felt the same way, I couldn’t imagine spending any less time with him. I always looked forward to coming over and just enjoying his company.
I looked at him seriously. “This means things are going to change between us. Are you sure you want that?”
He shook his head as if dismissing my words. “That’s the thing, I feel like nothing is really going to change. We already spend so much time together, and we sleep in the same bed most of the time, and…” he looked away for a moment before continuing, speaking a little softer. “Every time we kiss, I get these butterflies. I’ve never felt that way before. Not since…” he trailed off, but he didn’t need to finish his sentence. I knew exactly what he was talking about. “And I never thought I would get a chance to have that feeling from something physical. The things between us… are actually tangible. I can reach out and touch you.” As if to prove his point, he placed a hand on my face.
When he looked at me so intensely like that, it almost sent a shiver down my spine. I kept quiet so he would keep talking. My heart was swelling with every word he said, and I didn’t want him to stop.
“So. If things changing between us just means that we go a little further, and we actually get to explore these feelings we have… then yes. I’m ready for things to change between us.” He reached for me and pulled me into a hug.
I rested my head on his shoulder. “Oh, Spence… I’m so glad you trust me like this.” I pulled away to look into his eyes. “I’m gonna make sure everything is special. All of your firsts… I want to make sure I meet all of your expectations.” I smiled and gestured toward the restaurant. “Starting with your first date.”
He smiled back at me and took my hand in his. “I know you will. You already make me feel so loved; I know you’ll take good care of me.”
I nodded, squeezing his hand a bit. “Are you ready?”
He nodded back as he started to get out of the car. “I’m so ready.”
. . .
Dinner went well. Everything between us always felt so easy, and this was no different. It definitely wasn’t a typical first date, considering how close we already were. But that just made it better. He was so relaxed after the initial nervousness of knowing this was his first date wore off. It felt so natural.
When we finished up, he led me back to his car, opening my door for me again like such a gentleman.
When he started the car, he turned to me. “I don’t really know the protocol for a first date… I know this isn’t a typical situation; would it be inappropriate for you to come back to my apartment?”
I smiled. “Usually, yes. But I figured I was going to spend some time there anyway. Should we go back to my apartment first so I can grab a change of clothes?”
He bit his lip. “You still want to spend the night?”
I grabbed his hand and stroked it with my thumb reassuringly. “I know things are changing now, but that doesn’t mean expectations need to change. Nothing is different tonight. We’re not gonna do anything different for now.” I reached up to cup his cheek. “We’re gonna take things slow. This won’t be any different than spending the night together as friends.”
He seemed to relax a little at that. He nodded and reversed the car, heading toward my apartment.
I took a few minutes to take my makeup off and change into something more casual. I traded my purse for my usual bag and shoved my pajamas in it. Maybe something changed formally between us, but he was right. Nothing was really any different. We’d hang out like we always do. It was so natural.
I climbed back in his car, and he smiled when he saw me dressed down again, like he had gotten used to seeing me. We headed back to his apartment and watched some tv like we always did. But now, we held each other a little closer. And I knew it wasn’t because he was sad. It was because he wanted to be close with me.
We stayed like that until we both felt tired, and we headed to bed like we’d gotten used to at this point.
I came out of the bathroom after changing into my pajamas. Spencer looked at me and smiled, opening his arms for me. I liked this excitement so much more than when I was here to just stop him from crying.
I climbed into bed, letting his arms wrap around me as I rested my head on his chest. Everything felt so right. He stroked my hair as he moved the covers over us. After a minute, he turned to look at me, and I propped myself up on my elbow to look back at him.
He spoke softly. “I know this is probably fast for just a first date, but… I have to say something. I’ve been thinking it for so long now and I need to tell you.”
My heart raced a bit as I anticipated what he was about to say. I was really ready for him to say it.
He took a deep breath, cupping my cheek and looking into my eyes. “… I love you.”
My heart swelled and I smiled at him. “I love you too.”
Both of us were smiling brightly as we settled in like we usually did. Our nightly routine was staying the same, but it was so much sweeter now. I was really excited to see where this was going to take us.
Dog Days Are Over
Tumblr media
A subtle weight rests on your body; a heaviness in your chest makes it hard to breathe. You don’t fight it. In a couple of minutes, it won’t matter anyway. The wound in your stomach bleeds, soiling your bright blue shirt with a dark red tint. Your heart rate slows, and your eyes flutter. The world around you is getting darker by the second. The end is near, and you swear you can taste it. To whether it’s heaven or hell you are headed, you don’t mind. Or maybe, it’s nothingness. A void. Either way, anything is better than here.
Your short gasps for breath begin to even out as your heart fails. Pumping no longer seems necessary, so the organ quits. It succumbs to the state that your brain has been in for weeks: numb. Cold. Dead.
A glimpse of life flashes before your wilting eyes. A figure running towards you, putting their hands on your cheek. Your lover, maybe, greeting you for an eternity of peaceful nothingness together. Your lips part in the joy of seeing him. Blood trickles from your mouth; the wound finally shutting down your body. Your eyes close and you welcome the darkness.
<•>
The next time you wake up, it’s still dark, and you automatically assume it’s the void that called you home. The Other Side collapsed over a year ago, but supernatural creatures have died since, and nobody ever knows where they go. Here, presumably. To the dark.
After a moment, your eyes begin to adjust and you move to sit up on your knees. The ground beneath you is hard and cold, like cement. It is not at all welcoming or comforting, but maybe that’s how death is supposed to feel. You shrug, not caring yet. Soon, you won’t feel anymore. Soon, you’ll enter the void, or cross the Styx, or whatever is the last necessary step of dying. Soon, you’ll be free.
You stand, then stumble. One minute, your mind and soul feel empty, but in the next, an insatiable hunger takes over your body. It knocks you back to your knees. A whine escapes your throat. Death should not feel this way. Death is supposed to be empty. Something’s wrong.
“Hello?” You call into the void, not expecting an answer.
Instead, you hear a far-off voice, talking not to you, but someone else. “She’s awake.”
Fear thumbs in your heart. You put a hand over it, only to realize after a couple seconds that it’s not beating. The hunger increases as the sound of footsteps approaches. This isn’t happening. You can’t be alive; shouldn’t be. You chose death. Wanted it. Sought it.
But someone had other plans.
<•>
“Hello?” A girl calls out, maybe to you. She waits, then pulls back a small window, letting a little light in your supposed void. “Where are you?”
“What do you want?” You ask, straining. Your voice comes out weaker than you like it to be.
“I brought you something.”
“Nora, turn on the light,” another girl says.
“Would you like a light?”
No, you think. You’d like to be dead. But… you’d also like to identify your captors. “Okay.”
An overhead light comes on a moment later. You shut your eyes tight as it floods your senses, then open it once you start to adjust.
“Too much?”
“Was there a lamp option?” You sass.
“I could find a lamp,” the second girl suggests.
“We’ll find her one in a moment,” the first turns back to you, “can you see us alright?”
Finally, you can. Two girls peek through a window, one brunette and one blonde. They seem sweet, not like the high school mean girls’ type, but you’re still cautious. “I can see you.”
“Good. We have something for you.”
The smell of blood attacks your senses. Your hunger grows.
You make two big strides to the pair, before realizing something. You weren’t a vampire before, so why should the smell of blood excite you now? You stop, shaking your head. “No.”
“You have to drink,” the blonde urges. You have to complete the transition, she doesn’t say, despite it on her mind.
“No, I wanted to die. I tried to die.” You lock eyes with the brunette. “One of you turned me.”
“Y/N, you can’t die. You-”
“How do you know my name?! Who are you?!”
“That doesn’t matter right now, what matters is that you drink.”
“No!”
“Y/N, please!” She holds the bag further out to you.
Your weak body begs for you to drink, but your mournful heart refuses. “No!” You shout again. “I’m not drinking your blood; I’m not transitioning!”
“You have to!” The blonde agrees with her friend. “You’re getting paler by the second.”
“Good. Then I’ll have lived and died a witch.”
“You’re too young to die, Y/N. You can’t give up. He wouldn’t want you to give up.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Please, drink, and then we can talk.”
“No. You can’t make me.”
“I can,” she argues.
“You won’t come in here with me. With me so close to transitioning. That would be suicide.”
“Well we can’t let you die, either.”
You stand off with the two girls. They seem to communicate telepathically between themselves. It’s quite frightening to not know what they’re thinking. You stare at them, wondering who they are and why they care that you live.
“You’ll thank us later, Y/N, just drink.”
“I don’t want to live. If I wanted to, I wouldn’t have stabbed myself.”
“You won’t feel this heartbreak forever,” the blonde speaks, like a Hallmark card you didn’t ask to receive. You roll your eyes.
“I think we have to,” the first girl says, hand undoing the bag.
“I agree.”
Before you can ask about their apparent plan, they’re opening the door and swarming to you.
“Get out!” You cry. The blonde holds your left arm, while the brunette backs you up to the wall. “I don’t want it.”
“You’ll be grateful one day,” she sticks her promise to you again.
“If it’s not today, there’s no point. I can’t take this anymore.”
“Take it from someone who spent a hundred years in solitary confinement, I know loneliness. It hurts. It’s worse than a knife to the stomach,” she references your attempt. It’s still apparent on your clothes. “But life isn’t all sad. Sometimes it can be beautiful.”
“I’ve seen it beautiful,” you argue, tears forming in your eyes, “I've seen it, yet I’ll never see it again.”
“You have to trust us. Trust yourself. You can be happy again.”
“No.”
“Yes, Y/N, come on. Drink the blood.” The brunette holds the bag to your face, pinning you against the wall.
“No.” In a last ditch effort, you raise your free arm and smack the bag out of her hand. It flies, then hits the stone wall across from you and splatters. Her eyes go wide, and when she looks back at you, a triumphant look shines in your eyes.
“What did you do that for?!” The blonde shouts. “Waste a perfectly good bag!”
“It’s okay, Mary Louise, just means she’ll get a taste of the real stuff.” Before you can ask, the vampire before you is biting her wrist and shoving it between your lips. You fight, kicking and swinging, but the girls are much stronger. “Keep her still,” she nods to her friend, “just a little more.”
Your wrist starts to burn. You glance down for a second and see an orange glow emitting from the point of connection on your skin. “What-”
The brunette takes advantage of your parted lips and shoves her wrist further into your mouth. “Okay, stop,” she says, and the girl siphoning stops.
Your body is weak, but your heart feels strong. It doesn’t beat, but the blood filling your stomach powers it. The siphoning, however, tolls on your body. The girls let go of you, watch you daze, then gently help your body to the floor. You’re out like a light, asleep.
<•>
You’re much stronger the second time awake. Stronger, with a vengeance. First, you need to find out who those girls were, how they were able to siphon you, and why they wanted to keep you alive. Then, you need to find the nearest piece of wood and send your soul to the void like you had planned.
You look around, searching for anything sharp and anything wooden. You realize now that you’re in a cellar with absolutely nothing that could be used as a weapon, and the only thing in there with you is another blood bag. Angrily, you kick it and it splatters. The smell reaches your nose and you curse yourself for wasting it, now hungry. On the bright side, the violent act seems to let your captors know you’re awake. They walk gingerly down the stairs only a moment later, then switch on a lamp before opening the window.
“Y/N?” The brunette starts, tone cautious.
Your reply is bitter. “What?”
“I’m sorry we had to hold you down. We didn’t want it to come to that.”
“But you had to drink. We couldn’t let you die.”
“What do you care? And who are you?” Then, “and why could you siphon me?”
“If we let you out, will you run?”
“We can’t let her out, Mary. I don’t trust she won’t hurt herself.” You scoff. She turns back to you. “I’m Nora, this is Mary Louise.”
“And? How do you know me?”
“Well, we don’t, but we recognized you from pictures.”
“Pictures? What pictures?”
The girls hesitate. A name rests on their tongues, but they don’t utter it. Unbeknownst to you, they fear saying it out loud will drive you mad. Names have power, and in this case, a lot of it.
“Doesn’t matter right now,” the brunette, Nora, says instead. “What matters is that you get better.”
You laugh dryly. “I would’ve been better off dead.”
Mary Louise seems to get agitated at that. “Stop saying that! You have to live! He’d-”
“Mary, don’t say anything.” The girl quiets immediately.
“Why do you care so much if I live? Who’s he? Where am I?”
“Technically, you’re in the Salvatore house. The basement. We’d give you a room if we could trust you, but it’s too great a risk that you’d hurt yourself still.”
“Why the boarding house? Where’s Damon? Stefan? Do they know I’m here?”
The girls share glances but confess nothing. “You’re safe here. We are not going to hurt you.”
“That’s what people often say before hurting said captive.”
“You’re at more risk by your own hand than ours,” Mary retorts. “You stabbed yourself in an alley behind a dumpster. You’re lucky Nora and I sensed the blood.”
“Luck is not the term I’d use. If you couldn’t tell, I did it on purpose.”
They sigh as if they knew it was on purpose, but for some reason they’re not telling you, they still felt the need to save you.
You ask again, “why did you turn me? Why not just let me die?”
Nora hands you a new blood bag. “Drink this.”
Rolling your eyes more, you refuse. “No.”
“Drink, and we’ll give you answers.”
“C’mon, you’ve already transitioned,” Mary argues, “you might as well not dessicate.”
You know she’s right. Angrily, you snatch the bag and drink it down quickly. When you toss the bag back at Nora, she sighs.
“You’re a friend of a friend of ours,” she says vaguely. “He would want you to live. He’d want you to live your life and die naturally, rather than die young and heartbroken.”
“That ‘naturally’ part is no longer happening-”
“-which is not our fault,” Mary snaps, interrupting you.
“Mary,” the other calms, “patience. Yes, when you die, it will no longer be natural, but at least as a vampire, you have a shot at life again. In a sense, maybe, it’s a gift. You can leave if you want to leave. You can go where you want. You’re not bound by human laws or rules. You can be free.”
“I don’t want to be free. I don’t want anything if I can’t-” you stop yourself. “I didn’t ask for this.”
“I know. But someday, you’ll realize life is worth living, and you’ll be glad that you got a second chance. Take it from someone - both of us - who were given one.”
“Easy for you to say, you have each other. I have no one.”
“Maybe we can be someone for you, if you trust us.”
“Yeah, not likely.”
“Give it time, Y/N. We’ll bring you another bag later.”
As she shuts the window, you shout. “You didn’t even answer all my questions!” But they’re gone. The lamp remains on, but you’re left to your thoughts, alone.
<•>
The same cycle repeats for days. Weeks, even. The longer the mystery girls keep you locked up, the angrier you get. They arrive, open the window, practically force you a bag, spew bullshit about how you’ll get better, then leave. Two, sometimes three times a day. No one else ever visits, although one time, they had a third girl - Valerie - join them. She didn’t talk much, but she sure did seem to study you.
That day, after realizing there were more people in the house than just the two of them, you grow restless. Your mind is understimulated and bored. Your heart is broken and sore. You haven’t seen daylight in god knows how long. The next time Nora and Mary Louise come down, you’re ready to pick a fight.
You drink the bag without complaints, then send it flying back through the barred window along with a string of shouts and cuss words. They’ve given you the bare minimum of information, despite promising an explanation, and saving you from death just to lock you in a cellar seems cruel and unfair. They want you to live, yet treat you like a wild animal. They swear they’re protecting you, but you can’t see them as anything but kidnappers.
Nora remains calm throughout your rants, though Mary Louise looks on the verge of tears. It hurts, a little, to see her so upset, but if she could feel the agony you feel day-after-day, maybe she’d understand your pain.
After every last word on your mind is spat out to the girls, Nora gives you a look that you hate. It reads that she sympathizes; she cares, in her own way, but she keeps you confined for your own good. You hate to admit it, but she’s right. If they had even given you a pillow, you’d find a way to hurt yourself. Even if you kill yourself daily just to be unconscious most of the time. Still, you scream at them. How you didn’t ask to live; how you were ready to die; how you can’t live without him, and he’s gone. You think Nora doesn’t understand, but she does. They both do.
She doesn’t tell you she does until you settle. And when you do, she finally tells you all of it.
<•>
“Your silencing spells are weakening with her anger. She’s literally breaking them down, there’s so much pain in her screams,” Valerie tells the girls. “You better get her under control quickly, or Lily will have something to say about it.”
“She’s just facing the worst part of her transition. All the pain is hitting her at once, coupled with the fact that her lover is dead. Give her a break.”
“You shouldn’t have turned her at all, Nora.”
“Well I couldn’t very well let Kai’s girlfriend kill herself out of heartbreak. We owe it to him to save her.”
“Some people don’t want to be saved.”
“She doesn’t want to die,” Nora counters, “she just doesn’t want to live without him.”
“And now she’ll live forever without him.”
“I’m going to help her find happiness in this life. Even if he’s not here, she needs to know life is worth it to hold on and find something that makes you happy again.”
“A heartbroken vampire in love with a murdered sociopath can be a very dangerous thing.”
“So can a previously dessicated heretic still in love with her ex-lover from the eighteen hundreds,” Nora sasses. “She’ll be okay, she just needs time.”
“I bet Mary Louise won’t like you devoting so much time to a girl that’s not her.”
Mary enters the conversation from the kitchen. She leans against the doorframe, a small smirk on her lips. “Mary quite likes the girl, actually. She’s grateful to Kai for feeding us and busting us out of that god-awful prison world, and she knows how much Y/N meant to him. And, she likes seeing her girlfriend put so much effort into healing someone else’s broken heart.”
Valerie rolls her eyes, defeated. “Whatever. Just put up new silencing spells, because the neighbors will start to complain.”
<•>
That afternoon, the girls visit you and prepare themselves for a new string of cuss words. The modern day tongue seems to have many at the ready, and the pair are always surprised to hear the variations you spew at them. Although, when they open the window this time, they’re shocked to find you sitting criss-cross, in the middle of the floor, sobbing heavily. Your hands cover your face, and you seem to neglect to notice their presence. Nora’s heart breaks. In the moment, you remind her of Alice in Wonderland in her sea of tears. She recalls reading that book over a century ago and relating to lost little Alice. Now, she’s transported back in time as she looks at you.
“Y/N?” She asks cautiously. You look up, glance at her, but then dart your eyes back to the ground. “Are you okay?”
“How is life supposed to get better? How do I live after all this tragedy? Where do I go from here?”
“That’s something we’d like to help you find out, if you’d let us.”
“That’s why we turned you,” Mary adds, “so that you could find it, and have friends along the way. We want to help you.”
You raise your head back up to them. “I can’t do it. I’m not strong enough for it.”
“You are perfectly capable of living a life you can be proud of. You just need a little push to get there.”
“And how am I supposed to get there, living in here? In this cellar?”
“This is only temporary. This is for your safety, until you find it in yourself to want to live. ‘Til the desire to hurt yourself is gone, okay?”
“We have another bag for you,” Mary says, tossing it to you.
You drink it unquestioningly, and they prepare for the shouting. This time, however, it never comes. You only nod to the girls, then lie on your back and continue to cry.
<•>
A month after your transition, you finally settle. Most of the anger and tears have subsided, and the boundary and silencing spells hold without wavering. Nora and Mary Louise want nothing more than to tell you their full story, and they think you’re finally ready to hear it.
For the first time ever, you smile at them. “Hi.”
“Hey,” Nora says calmly. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I want to die,” you blurt out, but then sigh. “But okay. A bit numb.”
“You haven’t turned off your humanity, have you?” Mary jokes lightly.
“And be even more bored out of my skull? No.”
“Good. Bag?”
You shrug.
“Can we come in?”
Your eyes narrow at Nora’s request. The question is new to you. Usually, they stay beyond the cellar door. The last time they had come in with you, she force fed you her blood. But despite that memory, you don’t feel threatened by the girls anymore. They give you a strange sense of peace, like you could trust them, for reasons you don’t understand. “Sure,” you reply.
They join you on the ground, the three of you all sitting criss-crossed. Mary hands you the bag, which you accept and drink quietly.
“Y/N…” Nora starts, “we know you have a lot of questions. And while we didn’t want to give you any responses before, we think you’re ready to hear some answers now.”
You pause sipping your bag. “Really?”
“Well the hard part of your transition is over,” Mary says, “we’d really like you to trust us, and we’d like to have trust in you, too, so that we can let you out. But in order for that to happen, we have to know you’ll be safe in the world. No pointy objects, no wood.”
You turn to Nora. “Is that one of the questions you’ll answer? The real reason you want me alive?”
“It is.”
You nod. “I’m listening. And I promise, I’m okay right now. I’m not going to hurt you, or myself, unless I have reason. Truth be told, I don’t really have the mental strength for it.”
Nora nods, too, then, “why?”
“What?”
“Why is it that you don’t have the strength? What’s plaguing you? Why did you attempt to take your own life?”
“I…” your eyes already start to water again, “I can’t live without him. I don’t want to live without him.”
“And who is him?”
“I- I can’t say.”
“Can’t say because you fear our judgment, or can’t say his name out loud?”
“Both, I guess.”
“Might I say it, then?”
“I guess. If you know…”
“Y/N… we know it’s Kai. And we know because his… passing affects us, too.” Hearing his name out loud shatters your heart, but Nora saying she knew him catches your attention. You tilt your head at her. “The reason we were able to siphon you earlier is because we’re like him. We’re heretics.” You straighten. “We were trapped in the 1903 prison world. Kai fed us and let us out. We owe our survival to him.”
“He became a brother to us,” Mary adds, “was a brother to us. We’re all of the same family, with the same rejected gene, although a century apart. Besides each other, we’ve never had anyone understand us, and aside from Lily, no one’s ever cared to listen.”
“But how do you know me? You know,” your voice wavers, his name coming off your tongue weakly, “Kai. How do you know me?”
“Because, silly, he loved you,” Nora rolls her eyes gently, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
Mary nods. “Once he knew we were trustworthy, he talked to us nonstop. Some of it was about the modern world or his own past, but he mostly talked about you. He had the strangest device, a phone, he called it, and would look at pictures of you until it died, and after that, he had one in his wallet.”
“And he’d tell stories. How kind you always were, how he came to trust you, and how you had started a relationship together.”
“The longer he spent there, the more worked up he was getting. He told us about 1994 and what had happened, and that he’d spent eighteen years in another prison world, just to end up in a colder, darker one. I think that’s where the wedding went wrong.”
You agree. “He told me his biggest fear was getting sent to one of those again. Being alone.”
“Not only being alone, but being without you,” Nora says. “We were there, but he still needed you.”
“And although we kept him company, it wasn’t the same.”
“Valerie didn’t help much,” Nora mutters.
“Valerie… the other one? Upstairs?”
“She didn’t approve of his crime to get locked in 1994. She seemed to have forgotten her own childhood, judging his like that. We all grew up similarly. Told we were abominations and cast away.”
You’re about to make a comment on that, but Mary beats you to speaking first,
“You didn’t flinch when I siphoned you.”
“Yeah, um,” you smile, a memory surfacing, “I used to let Kai siphon whenever he wanted.”
“It didn’t hurt?”
“I liked it.” You shrug. “Hurt a little, sometimes. Like a burn, but… I liked the feeling.”
“You say ‘whenever he wanted,’ so like, not only for spells?”
“Sometimes he just wanted to feel magic in his blood. I didn’t use my magic a lot, and knew he had been deprived of it, so regardless if he was performing a spell or not, yes, I’d let him siphon.”
“So…” Nora starts, “you said you didn’t use your magic a lot?”
“Not really.”
“So you won’t be too upset at losing it now that you’re a vampire?”
You give her a playful glare. “I’ll miss it, but I can live without it.” Her face lights up at your choice of words. “What?”
“‘You can live without it’. That’s exactly what I want to hear from you; that you know you can live, despite the tragedy, just like you said you fear.”
“Nora-”
“Sh, sh, sh, let me relish this moment.” Mary giggles at her girlfriend. “You want to fight the war inside your mind. You want to live.”
“I wanted to live with Kai,” you remind. “Alone…”
“You won’t be alone. We know what it’s like to be lonely. We won’t let you feel that way.”
“I just… it’s going to take some time for me to heal. I can’t promise it’ll be easy.”
“We’ve got your back, Y/N. Kai would have wanted you to live. We want that for you, too.”
You nod, still a bit unsure, but now aware that these girls aren’t going to let you out of their sight, so you might as well comply. “Can I stay here, then?”
“In the cellar or upstairs?”
“I don’t know.”
Mary rolls her eyes playfully. “C’mon, we have a room ready for you.”
<•>
Adjusting to your new life is hard. Living without Kai is hard. Living with the heretics, though, is surprisingly easy. They’ve taken you in as one of their own, filling in the void that Kai left, and treating you like family. Valerie is a little weary around you, perhaps wondering how you could love the man that killed his entire family, but Nora and Mary Louise don’t ever let her get far. She, too, deep down, is grateful for the escape that your lover brought them; she doesn’t let her disapproval of his crimes cloud that too much.
Beau is more similar to Valerie than the girls. He’s older than them and Kai, and has never been one to seek revenge, as told to you by Valerie. While Kai had a penchant for violence, and Nora had a heart craving retribution, the other heretics were much more level-headed. They wanted to distance themselves from their family more so than to make them pay. And although Mary Louise was one of these, she strongly supported her girlfriend’s needs, understanding how their coven’s treatment could make them turn cold.
Once awoken in 1903, Nora quickly admires Kai for his actions. Granted, he may have not gone about his revenge in the best way, but he refused to let his father win, and won himself. Nora wasn’t a twin, just a sibling in her particular line, but she had suffered as much isolation as Kai did. For him to break free from his father’s prison world, then complete the merge he was denied and become their leader, it didn’t take much convincing to get her involved in the break-free from 1903 plan. Mary, again, went along with her girlfriend. She was passive but had a similar childhood, and couldn’t help but see Kai as the brother she always wanted. She had one, but wasn’t allowed to speak to him, and so when Kai spoke nonstop to her, she felt adored by him. And it’s true, Kai loved them all like family, because they were.
Despite knowing most of the heretics, you never meet Malcomb, who was killed by Damon while you were still transitioning. Nor have you met Oscar, who is out running vague errands for Lily. Though you remain in the boarding house with the four until tensions start to rise between Lily and her sons.
Lily, rarely at the house, is nonetheless welcoming to you. She offers you a simple condolence when you thank her for giving Kai her blood. She says she wishes things turned out better, and regrets not being able to save his life. In a way, you tell her, she did, but that Damon took him away from both of you. All of you, rather, as Nora strokes your hair as you speak.
The warming party between Mystic Falls’ residents and the heretics is the day your new status as a vampire is revealed. The wistful shock in Damon’s eyes and the concerned delight in Bonnie’s is something you’ll never forget, although by this time, you’re too disheartened by either of them to address it. When Mary Louise whisks you away with a bottle of bourbon, you don’t fight. Enzo sends Bonnie a confused glance that you miss, but neither comment.
<•>
A lot happens in a short time following that night. Jo’s twins are confirmed to be alive with Caroline carrying them, something about which you’re still unsure. Valerie had a rendezvous with Stefan a century ago, and Julian’s confirmed a monster when his atrocious response slips from between her lips. For a moment, Mary Louise is hesitant to trust her, and Nora finds solace with Bonnie, but you, now permanently bonded to the two youngest heretics, pull them back together. Oscar is lost along the way, caught by the Salvatores who had just put down their own mother. Four funerals are held in a mere couple of months: Kai, Malcomb, Oscar, and Lily. One month after that, a fifth is held for Beau.
Caroline’s twins - well, Jo’s, ish - are born, with the help of the heretics. You watch from a distance, concerned way more for Caroline birthing two refusing siphons from her vampire womb, than for the twins themselves. In the end, only Beau is the one to not make it out. A previously estranged vampire hunter released from Alaric’s armory interrupts the introduction of life with a promise of death. Bonnie was the one to let her out, it’s revealed, so it’s only fair that she’s the one to get tangled in the mess and take her down. After that, Enzo and Damon are captured by sirens and made to perform the dirty work of the two ancient beings. Bonnie’s trapped in the middle of it, as is Caroline, and incidentally, as is everyone else in the town. Eventually, what’s left of the old Mystic Falls’ gang manages to rid themselves of the sirens, only to be faced with Cade, the Devil himself.
Though most of these details are blurry to you. Parts of the story are missing, like holes in a blanket. You’ve kept up with the general plot, but lost a lot of the story’s structure along the way.
That’s because seven years ago, right after the twins’ birth and Beau’s funeral, the heretics ran. Valerie escaped to Europe, and you, Nora, and Mary Louise headed south. You didn’t want to get mixed up in the turmoil, especially not with Rayna Cruz, then a vengeful Bonnie, on the loose, so the three of you disappeared with barely a trace. You’re still in contact with Caroline, and Valerie remembers to charge and connect her phone, she still talks to Nora and Mary Louise, but for the most part, you’re set far apart from your old life.
And surprisingly, you’re happy.
Life in the boarding house with the heretics was easy. Living with Nora and Mary Louise is even easier. You’ve taught them to adapt to the modern age, despite their unfamiliarity, but as it turns out, they blend in quite well. You have a thing for take-out; the girls love catching up on all the movies they’ve missed, so many nights are spent as movie nights, eating large amounts of take-out and binging movies all night. Of course, you also rotate cooking. Mary’s the worst. Nora’s the best. You’re in the middle, no talent of your own, for it’s Kai that taught you all you know about it.
Speaking of Kai… over time, you’ve been able to talk more about him. You open up your relationship to the heretics, sharing stories you’ve never told anyone, telling them things that most might consider TMI, but by this point in your friendship, there’s no such thing as secrets. They love it. They love laughing at the funny parts, and crying over sadder ones. They share memories and tragedies from their own pasts, sometimes relating to Kai, but sometimes, also, relating to you.
You share blankets on the couch and straws with drinks. You braid each other’s hair and rotate chores. You dance together in the kitchen, singing along to music both old and modern, with no neighbors to hear how undeniably loud you are. You’re happy.
<•>
It’s been a while since you’ve heard from Caroline, but when you finally do, she sends you a cryptic message that immediately pulls you to your feet.
Caroline: I need a favor. Call me when you get a chance.
Your eyes narrow at the text. Rarely does Caroline text with such seriousness, especially with such a long period of not speaking.
“What is it?” Nora asks, seeing tension on your face.
“Caroline… asking for a favor.”
“You don’t have to go back to Mystic Falls, do you? It’s dangerous there,” Mary worries. Talk of the Devil filled the last phone call you’ve had with the other blonde. Specifically, Kelly Donovan returned for one more dramatic entrance, a bell was rung, and the Devil got out. A second protection spell was put around the house, just in case, after that news.
“I’m not sure. One moment.” You dial her number, and only wait a second before she picks up. “Caroline?”
“Y/N? Hi.”
“Hi. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. Kind of. I need you to come back to Mystic Falls as soon as possible.”
“Why? What’s wrong?”
“It’s… it’s about the twins.”
You shoot the girls an anxious glance as they overhear the call.
“Is everything okay with them?”
Caroline hesitates. “How soon can you get here?”
“Caroline? Are they okay?”
“Y/N-”
“Overnight. I’ll be there by morning.”
“Okay. Come to the armory.”
You pack a quick bag and hug your friends, then leave immediately.
“Be careful,” they wish you. “Let us know if you need help.”
“I will. I’ll be back shortly.”
<•>
You burst into the armory quite loudly, calling for Caroline. She races to your side a moment later, a finger over her lips.
“What’s wrong? Where’s the twins?”
“The twins are fine. They’re-”
“What?! Caroline, what the fuck?! I drove all night. I-”
“Come with me. Please. And be quiet.”
Still worried, but now a little pissed, you follow her down the narrow, dark hallway to the cells. You’re about to ask more questions, but then you notice a person occupying one of the rooms. “Who-?”
She spins you around by the shoulders, forcing you to look at her. “Take him and go. Wherever you are with the heretics, bring him with you. I can’t let him hurt my girls, but if he’s with you, he’ll stay away from them.”
“Caroline, what-”
“Cade is looking for him, and Stefan and Damon want to send him back in exchange for Elena’s coffin, but I know how much he means to you and if I were in your shoes, I’d intervene, too. Hell, I’ve spent the last three days compelling Stefan’s victims that they’ve been seeing things. We’ve all done questionable things for the people we love, and so I’m telling you to do the same. Get him out of Mystic Falls, now.”
When you turn the corner, Kai Parker is on the other side of the glass. His hand is raised as he siphons the magic from the walls.
“Caroline, will-” he pauses, noticing you. “Y/N?”
Your breath hitches in your throat. “Kai?” You turn to Caroline, searching for answers.
“He escaped when the Maxwell bell rang.”
“That bell rang days ago, you said. He’s been here ever since?”
“Damon told me you were dead,” Kai says. The glass begins to crack under his hand.
“We don’t have time for this,” Caroline interrupts hurriedly, “Y/N, you need to go.” She waves in Kai’s direction. “Break the glass, make it look like you’ve escaped, and get out of here. Just don’t think about coming after my kids, or I’ll make you regret it.”
Kai sets his jaw, then shatters the glass. Caroline blocks the both of you from the shards, and in the next moment, you’re standing face to face with the man you’ve missed for years.
“Hi, princess,” he greets.
You waste no time jumping into his arms, legs around his waist, burying your face in his neck. You cling to him tightly, wrapped in an embrace, until he sets you down gently.
“Caroline,” you start, “thank you.”
She smiles sweetly. “I love you. Now, go!”
“I love you, too. I’ll call you when everything settles.”
“You better.”
You take Kai’s hand and drag him out of the armory. A series of turns leads you to a side exit; an emergency door, but with the sirens already blaring overhead, you’re not worried about it.
“Y/N,” he pauses the moment you get outside.
“My car’s over here, c’mon.”
He doesn’t budge. “But-”
“Kai!”
“You’re a vampire,” he says, clearly confused. “What happened? When’d you turn?”
“What? You don’t think I could look this young seven years later?” You joke, tugging more.
“No! I didn’t mean that-”
“I…” your grip weakens with the look he gives you. “Can we please get in the car? Alaric’s going to notice you’re gone, and-”
“When? When did you turn?”
“After you died,” you confess, face falling to the ground. You can’t look at him; can’t stand to see the sadness on your face.
“How? Did Damon-?”
“No, Damon didn’t do it. I… I couldn’t live without you. It was too hard. I didn’t want to. I tried… someone had other plans.”
“Princess…” his voice trails off as he realizes what you mean. Strong arms reach for yours to pull you into his chest. “You didn’t… oh. Oh my god.” He tilts your head up to face him, but you avoid his eyes. “Who turned you? Dam-”
“Again, not Damon. I, um, can we go? Ric’s gonna come any second, and-”
“Who turned you, Y/N?”
“Nora.”
“Nora? From-”
“1903? Yeah. “
“Is she-? Are the heretics-?” Kai’s interrupted by shouting coming from the armory. You grab his hand once more and drag him to your car. He climbs in the passenger seat without question, and you speed out of Mystic Falls as fast as you can.
Not until you’re fifteen minutes from the armory, do you finally answer the questions swarming his head. You lower your speed to follow the limit, then take a deep breath.
“Nora,” he beats you to it.
“I killed myself,” you confess, “attempted, I guess. She found me, fed me her blood right before I died. She and Mary Louise took me to the boarding house, where they had been staying.”
“Both of them?”
You nod. “I wasn’t an easy project. First I refused to transition, then I refused bags. She had to pin me to the wall to get me to drink; I still fought, and Mary had to siphon me to weaken me enough that Nora could complete the transition. After that, I’d scream and cuss at them for keeping me alive. Nora would give me this cold stare, and Mary would cry, but neither gave up on me. Then, I flipped a complete one-eighty and cried for weeks. Nora said I resembled Alice in Wonderland in her sea of tears.” You chuckle now, but Kai has a feeling you weren’t laughing then. He sure isn’t laughing at all as you retell the story. “But finally, after about a month, I settled. I realized I couldn’t die, and they wouldn’t let me die, and I had to figure out how to live, now, as a vampire. I let them give me bags without a fight, and with time, talked to them.”
“Why did they save you, do you know?”
“That’s something I begged them to tell me for weeks, but they refused to say until I was ready to hear it. They loved you,” you say, stealing a glimpse at him, “like a hero, like a brother. They loved you, and heard so many stories in the prison world about how you loved me, and when Nora found me in the alley, she knew she had to save me because you would’ve wanted me to live. She did it for you. She didn’t want me - your girl - to die ‘young and heartbroken’.” You sniffle, tears forming. “She wanted me to learn to live a life I could be proud of, and she wanted to honor her admiration for you by keeping me here.”
It’s a lot for Kai to take in; he’s quiet for a few minutes. As he thinks, though, his hand creeps towards yours and takes a hold of it. He squeezes gently, then kisses your knuckles.
“The heretics,” he says, “where are they now?”
“Val’s in Europe, traveling. She didn’t want to be near Mystic Falls; turns out she has history with Stefan. Damon and Bonnie killed Malcomb before I could meet him, and Damon and Stefan killed Oscar, also before I met him. Beau was killed by an ancient hunter, whilst protecting the twins after Caroline gave birth to them, and-”
“Mary Louise and Nora?”
“I live with them.”
“What?”
“We have a little house on the border. Just out of Virginia, but barely considered North Carolina. They’re still together; had some bumps in their relationship, but they’re happy now.”
“And you, are you happy?”
“It took me a long time, but I found happiness within myself and from them. So I would consider myself happy, I guess. As weird as it is to say.”
“And me… if I were to join you, would you still be happy, after all these years?”
“What do you mean?”
“You’ve learned to live without me. You’ve found your place in this world, and friends. You’ve built a life for yourself.”
Slowly, you pull over to give him your full attention. Kai watches carefully, curious at what you’ll say. “Not a day has gone by that I haven’t missed you. I think about you every day. I miss the feeling of holding your hand, and hugging you. Kissing you. Hell, I miss the feeling of you siphoning me. No matter how happy I’ve become, there’s always been a piece of me missing. I figured it would always be missing, but as I sit here and look at you, I realize it’s not anymore. I love you, Kai, and I want you in my life, with me. I always have. I’ve learned to live without you, yes, and I’ve found people and things within myself that contribute to my happiness, but I will never be as good as when I’m with you.”
“Y/N…”
“And if your next question is about Nora and Mary, just know that they adore you way more than you might ever know. Nora admires you, and to Mary, you’re the brother she never got to know. They saved my life because they were mourning you, and knew I was, too. We all saved each other, in a way, and we’re all brought together because of you.”
It takes another minute of focused staring to process your words. You follow his line of sight to the steering wheel, but the moment you catch his eye, he stutters a response. “I-I love you. I’ve missed you, too, every day, and the thought of you is what kept me strong when I was in Hell. I need you.”
“You have me.”
“I won’t be easy, either. I can’t promise I won’t have nightmares from all the shit that happened there, but I promise I won’t ever leave you again.”
“I’ll help you through them. It’ll be okay.”
“You sure you want me in your life?”
“I need you just as much as you say you need me. Don’t ever doubt that.”
He nods. “Take me home, then.” He smiles. “Wait, after a kiss first.” Kai moves towards you as you turn twice, once to the wheel, then back to him, and takes your face in his hands. He kisses you with a passion equally sweet and rough, fingers grazing your skin and tangling in your hair. Your own hands find his shoulders, pulling him closer. After a moment, he pulls back, needing to catch his breath after such a long time of not kissing you. “Good? You need any more convincing to keep me around?”
“Shut up,” you joke, lighting hitting his chest. “Convincing? No. But I am gonna need you to make up later for seven years apart.”
“Well that I can certainly do.”
<•>
Four hours later, you pull into the long driveway that is your home. It’s nestled peacefully in the woods, away from most people, yet not so much that anyone will assume it’s abandoned. It’s cute and dainty, with colored tulips in beds in the front, and a red wreath hanging on the door, all compliments of Mary Louise. A bowl of food and water rests on the porch, to which Kai makes a face, and you explain that Nora’s been feeding the stray cats. You, on the other hand, are responsible for the hammock on the wrap-around porch. It provides a perfect spot for reading, or, more often, a place to daydream what life would be like if Kai never left.
Just like this, you’d think, but he’d be beside you, softly kissing your neck.
You don’t knock before entering. However, Kai bumps into the doorway, and you let out a quiet giggle at his confused expression.
“Nora?” You call into the home. “I need you to let somebody in.”
The door is open wide enough that Kai can see into the house, but he can’t see the stairs. Nora trots down the stairs a moment later, asking to whom you could be referring before she sees him for herself.
“Just a friend Caroline wanted me to pick up. Kinda like a stray puppy, actually.”
Mary giggles, half-expecting an actual puppy. But then when Nora comes to the door and her heart begins to race, her girlfriend gets worried. “Nora?” She hurries to stand beside her. “Oh!”
“Kai?” Nora asks gently. It looks like him, but she can never be too sure. She looks to you for confirmation.
You nod. “It’s him.”
“Hi,” he greets, signature smile confirming his own identity.
“Kai,” she says, tone full of relief. She rushes into his arms for a hug he didn’t expect. Nevertheless, he hugs her back just as tightly as she holds him. “Come in,” she invites as soon as letting him go.
Mary gawks as he crosses the threshold. “Can I-?”
He opens his arms again for her to hug him, and the two share their own embrace.
“What happened?” Nora starts, “how’d you-? Where-?”
“As I told Damon, then Caroline told Y/N, I jumped out when the Maxwell bell was rung. Damon tried to keep me hidden from Y/N, but Caroline had other plans. She let Y/N take me as long as I didn’t hurt the twins, to which I’m happy to let those little Gemini gremlins go if it means being with her.”
“And Cade?”
“Caroline called on the way; Cade’s dead. And Kai ate on the way, so he’s feeling better.”
“Earlier I felt like I could still be slipping back into Hell, but Cade’s grip on me weakened, and her blood gave me strength, so I won and got my footing back on Earth. I am officially a live-dead man once again.”
Mary chuckles, but Nora’s attention catches on a word. “Her?” You glance at the ground, a blush rising to your cheeks. Nora smiles. “Not twelve hours, and the lovebirds are sharing blood.”
“Match made in Heaven,” Mary laughs more.
“Completely inseparable,” Nora agrees. “Well, Kai, I hope you’ve made plans to stay, because now that you’re back, we’re never letting you out of our sight again.”
“You want me to stay?”
Nora had turned, but now she whips back around to face him. “What? Of course. Did you and Y/N-”
“We talked in the car! I thought you were okay with staying.”
“But Nora’s the owner of the house, I have to ask her, too!”
“Of course you’re staying, dork!” She’d learned that word the last couple years and always said it fits Kai; now she gets to use it on him. “Now pull up a chair. I know you’re the cook around here, but I made dinner, and it’s pretty good!”
The four of you take to the table where Nora pours bowls of soup. You settle around the chairs like a family separated for too long, but finally joined back together, never to be apart again, and it’s good. Your hands connected with Kai’s underneath the table, and he squeezes. Across from you, the girls’ own hands are held in each other’s. The joy and laughter around the table is something you want to be a part of forever.
My Three Girls (Alexia Putellas x Reader)
Tumblr media
So I finally wrote something! Hope you all enjoy and thank you for sticking with me, Chica soon
You only had a few days, last night you and your team had won your quarter final game in the euro’s against Sweden 4 nil. You were lucky enough to be allowed back to Spain to see your girlfriend for only the second time since she tore her ACL 2 days before the start of this tournament. You were currently running around your room trying to sort a few clothes before you were dropped to the airport by one of the staff members.
Beth your roommate was lounging on her bed videoing you, “You’re literally going home y/n what could you possibly need to take with you for 2 days.” You didn’t even give the woman a second of your time, you had just put the final pair of socks in your rucksack when your phone rung.
Alba’s face popping up causing you to roll your eyes before even answering. “Alba I’m literally about to leave what do you want?”
“Wow that’s no way to talk to your future sister in law, I was just phoning to make sure you brought the surprise back. Alexia is hiding it well, but she is sad and mum is saying we should focus on Ale so doesn’t want to do anything for her birthday.” Even the teasing at the start of her speech sounded sad, you knew the small family was dealing with it as best as they could but from this you could tell even more that they were starting to struggle.
“I’ve got it all. And don’t worry about Eli, we will celebrate her. Neither of them knows I’m coming right? You swore you wouldn’t say anything no matter what.” With the promise from Alba that she hadn’t told them you sad your goodbyes and told her you’d give her a call once you landed.
With one final check through your bag and a nod to Beth you were on your way to the airport. You would never be able to thank Sarina enough for this.
Landing in Spain just felt right, you had been here for the best part of 8 years now and although England was where you were from and where you grew up, Spain was now home. Walking straight out the front doors you saw Alba leaning against her car. “Hola hermana, did either of them ask why you were leaving?” You leant in for a hug as you checked with the younger woman.
“No I said I was popping out for some groceries to cook mum dinner, so they don’t suspect a thing.” You were so glad and the smile you sent the brunette was all the proof she needed.
On the drive back to Eli’s house you stopped off to grab both Alexia and Eli some flowers, something that you frequently did when you were home with them all during Barcelona’s season. You were strangely nervous, you know your team had knocked Spain out of the tournament and although you had spoken to Alexia about it since and she seemed fine there was still part of you that wasn’t so sure how they would reach.
By the time you had processed those thoughts Alba was pulling up outside the house that held the love of your life and her mother, both of which you hadn’t seen properly in over a month. “Are you ready?” it was Alba’s voice standing at your now opened passenger door that brought you back to the present.
“As ready as i'll ever be.” You got out the car, a bunch of flowers in each hand and followed behind Alba as she walked into the house.
“Alba? What in God’s name took you so long?” just hearing Eli’s motherly tone brought a tear to your eye, these people where your family. They took you in when you had no one and have loved you as their own since the day Alexia introduced you as her girlfriend.
“Traffic mama.” You could feel the eye roll from Alba.
“Its 7 in the evening there wouldn’t be traffic at this” Eli stopped what she was saying as soon as her eyes found your form just behind her youngest daughter. “Oh my come here you beautiful human, I can’t believe you are really here. I’m so proud of you.” You couldn’t stop the tears falling if you tried.
“Hola mama, I missed you a lot.” Nothing more could pass your lips as you were brought into a tight hug. Over the older woman’s shoulder you caught sight of the woman you had been dreaming of for the last 8 years but especially over the last month. Sending her a wink you soaked up the motherly love for a few more seconds before Alexia made her annoyance at the length of time you were hugging known.
“Alright mama I think I would like to finally hug my girlfriend now and seeing as my crutches are not close by your going to have to let her go so she can come to me.” The pout could be heard, neither you nor Eli needed to look at the brown he=aired beauty to know it was full force on her face.
Eli pulled back but held you at arm’s length, giving you the once over as if to check you were really there before taking the flowers you held out for her and sending you in your girlfriends’ direction with a pat on the cheek.
As you reached the injured woman you couldn’t help the piercing smile that broke out on your face, she would always be the person you wanted to evoke this type of reaction from yourself. “Hola babe I’ve missed you so much. Everything I have done on that pitch has been for you, I hope you know that.”
“I’m so proud of you hermosa.” Nothing more needed to be said between the two of you, you leant down and placed the most gentle, loving kiss on her lips, not missing the slight intake of breath that happened when your lips finally brushed for the first time in over a month. After a few moments of small pecks, both of you very conscious of prying eyes, you pulled back and rested your head on the other woman’s.
“Right I’m only here for the tomorrow so I got Alba to book Eli’s favourite restaurant for the four of us, and before you even try to argue Eli its your birthday and we are going to celebrate the most amazing mum we all know.” It wasn’t a secret that Eli was the best mother figure you had ever had, growing up in care did that to a girl. “For now though is it okay if we all chill for the night, I would like to watch and see who I have to beat for this one in a final on Sunday.”
With a smirk from the woman you were still holding onto, a hell yeah from the best mother you could ask to be pretty much adopted by and a profanity from the little sister you always wished you’d have, you settled in for a night full of catching up and love you didn’t know you needed.
Last night you found out you would face Germany in the final, something you were more nervous than you’d ever let anyone know of, but tonight, tonight was nothing to do with football. Tonight, was about celebrating the woman that made your life easier to live almost as much as Alexia did. Eli was sat next to Alba whilst you all ate, it was the first time Alexia had left the house for anything other than doctor’s appointments or physiotherapy and you could see the weight lifting off her shoulders as you all laughed and chatted the night away.
After a lovely meal you knew the cake was coming out, so did Alexia and Alba as you had all decided on the cake, she would have ahead of time, so the kitchen knew to put the 51 candles in it. As you sang happy birthday and the two sisters filmed or pictured their mum you subtly reached into your pocket for the final surprise of the night.
“You girls are the best, thank you for making this day so special for me. I don’t know what I did to deserve 3 of the most amazing daughters.” You weren’t expecting that at all, the tears that threatened to spill over almost stopped you from doing what you had planned. but in actual fact the words the woman said gave you that final piece of confidence you needed to know this was exactly what you were supposed to do.
“I have one more thing I would like to do tonight if that’s okay Eli?” you knew the woman had no idea what you were on about, but it was her birthday, so you wanted to check with her before you made it about yourself.
“Of course, carino, without you this might not have been possible.” You sent her a wink and a smile od gratification before you took a deep breath.
“8 years ago, when I first signed for Barca I was a lost 18 year old who had no place in this world, I had bounced around homes all my life never belonging anywhere apart from on a football pitch. Then I got an offer, an offer I never thought was possible, but I took the leap and came here. I never knew at the time but that would be the best decision I would ever make. That decision has given me the family I thought I would only ever dream of; in fact, I couldn’t have dreamed of you guys if I tried because you are beyond a dream. Alba you are the craziest, funniest, happiest little sister I could have ever thought of having in my life and I’m so grateful for your constant jabs and advice.  Eli, you have made me feel like I am part of your family from the moment Ale introduced me and for a girl that has never had a parent I don’t think I will ever be able to thank you enough but I’m going to try. I’m going to try the only way I know how. By looking after your daughter for the rest of my life.” You paused to catch your breath and you could see on Eli’s face she knew where this was going because she had a single happy tear rolling down her cheek.
“Alexia, you came into my life when I thought I wasn’t worthy of being known. You made me see that not only was I a good footballer, but I was a good human as well. You showed me that there was more to life than just a ball and a pitch, and you gave me something to play for. You are the first thing I think about when I wake up and you are my final thought before I fall asleep, and I want it to be that way for the rest of my life. So, Alexia Putellas Segura, will you make my life complete right now and marry me?”
You opened the ring box you held in your shacking hand and waited for the woman you loved more than football to answer you.
“Si of course. There is no other answer but yes.” You didn’t even get a chance to put the ring on her finger because the both of you were pulled into a 4-way hug by the other two occupants of the table.
“Now this, this is the best birthday present a mother could ask for. The chance for her family to all be officially one. My three girls.”
It's Our Time
Tumblr media
Pairing: C! Etho x Reader
Summary: In which you find out that he loves you as much as you love him
Genre: Fluff
Words: 1.9K
Extra notes: This was actually my first ever hermitcraft request. I messed it up last time so I redid it. Enjoy!
Content warnings (If any): Etho thinking hes not good enough for reader (Quickly disproven )
Tumblr media
Etho.
A ninja in training.
And your best friend since season 3 of hermitcraft.
Granted he was off and on due to... Things but he was still the person you always looked forward to seeing each season even if he wasn't there or left early most of the seasons.
In season 8, You decided to room with Etho and Iskall, the latter supporting Etho's shopping addiction.
"Etho," You asked as they fixed up dinner for Iskall when he came up while Etho ate at the table "You can't keep forcing the poor man to go mining for diamonds for you."
"But the 'poor man' doesn't mind! He does it willingly!" Etho insisted playfully as he took of a bite of his steak "Why do you care so much, Y/n? Do you like him?"
His eyes were narrowed and shoulders much too tense for his usual body language and his voice dripped with non-lethal venom masked by a candy sweetness you had learned to look past. It was the first time he acted like this when it came to your person of interest and while he was usually so calm, cool, and collected, seeing this shocked you and reminded you of when you actually said yes to that question because you had thought you had fallen for the builder named Scar.
Etho had actually set up a date with him in season 4 for you. It was romantic, set in a beautiful flower field with some steak and vegetables but that day it rained and thundered and bees swarmed the two. It was a disaster but you genuinely know Etho didn't do it. He was so giddy to hear that you liked someone and when he heard the date went wrong he pouted in your arms as you reassured him it was okay and that it was probably for the best.
"I don't know. Scar was great but there wasn't that connection that I thought there was." You explained and ran a hair through his silver hair. It was still storming but instead of being distraught you felt content, especially with Etho in your arms
But that was years ago, over time you developed feelings for the silver-haired Ninja and it would be so embarrassing to reveal them like this.
So, you had two options.
Lie and Say yes
or
Say no and not elaborate on who it was.
"There's some hesitation!" Etho said, his smile strained as he got up and placed his plate in the sink before washing his hands and wrapping his arms around your shoulders "You like Iskall dont'cha?"
"No," Y/n replied immediately "And If I did like someone, you would be the first to know."
"I better," Etho smiled and buried his face in the crook of your neck, his breath filtering through the thin mask of his and sending shivers down your spine "You're important to me. I need to know if my Y/n plans on dating someone."
before you could ask him what he meant by his Y/n, you were cut off by the third of your trio slamming the door open.
"I'm back!" Iskall called as he walked into the house and his eyes lit up at the smell of fresh and warm food "and there's food! Thank you Y/n!"
"Of course! Enjoy! Me and Etho already ate and I just served you so just give me your plate to clean." You grinned as Iskall came through the kitchen doorway before his eyes widened in surprise before they glimmered with something knowing as a smirk etched its way onto his face
"No, it's fine!" Iskall smiled "By the way, I need a few things. Can you and Etho get them? I've been in the mines for so long that I just need a shower before passing out."
"I'd be down!" You exclaim "Etho?"
Out of the corner of your eye, you see the masked man's expression change from... something to a soft smile when he notices you looking at him.
"Sure!" Etho smiled
Y/n watched as Iskall pressed a piece of Paper into Etho's hand and hugged him tightly. When the bearded man let go of the ninja, Etho's ears had flushed a pretty pink color and you instantly wonder why? What did the mischievous bearded man tell etho?
then he moved on to you
"Bye, Y/n." He hugged you and whispered in your ear "Good luck."
As confused as you were, etho pushed you out and turned to flip off Iskall who was laughing loudly at the ninja.
"What was that about Etho?" You asked softly and grabbed his hand before he can jump off the cliff to gain some air for his elytra
"Just Iskall being dumb," Etho said, a pout evident in his voice "Come on, He gave me some diamonds and we need some things fro the G-Train."
He made sure to look behind you and see you had your elytra on before he picked you up and jumped off with you in his arms. You let out a scream and clinged onto him.
Etho loved this.
Not you screaming in his ear but you clinging on to him like your life depended on it.
which it kinda does but still-
Etho's had a crush on you since he met you. Of course he never realized it until you went on that date with Scar when he realized the feeling of puking in his gut was jealousy. Then there was years of pining that came with it, longing glaces, disappointed sighs when you left the room and giddy squeals when you did something extra cute.
He loved you.
And he has for a while.
So for Iskall to come home and immediately ask for You and Etho to do something was fishy. He always finished his chores before he came home. It was only when Iskall gave him a hug and crushed a piece of paper in his hands did Etho finally know what Iskall was doing.
Confess to them before you come home. I'm tired of seeing the pining glances from you and them. it said and it made Etho blush. A rare occurrence that only you can do to him
"You little-" Etho began to whisper back before Iskall moved to you and he had to cut off his sentence.
and with all that he still took you to the G-train to find the 'things' Iskall needed. So while you browsed the fake list he gave you he gathered some food and random white-colored blanket and dye. He knew you hated white things getting dirty.
"Before we head back, and I know we just ate, but would you like to join me on a picnic?" Etho asked and turned with a soft smile
"I'd love that!" You responded, knowing your eyes lit up like a little kid on holidays.
Spending time alone with etho was frequent when he or you weren't working on anything so it wasn't anything special, but him asking if you didn't want to go home just yet made your heart flutter.
"Perfect," Even from under the mask you could see and hear the soft smile he had on his lips, and fondness shone in his eyes "Come on, I have the perfect place."
Etho lead you to a flower forest some hours away and began to set up, and while you insisted you help he denied all your offers and placed down the blanket he hastily dyed pink and that had dried out while he was flying before placing the basket of food he bought down and spreading it across the blanket and sat down before patting the spot next to him where you sat down.
"So, what's the special occasion?" You asked him as a joke and leaned your head on his shoulder as you took a bite of a golden carrot before offering him some
"You?" He said truthfully
"Me?" You asked back suddenly curious and sat up correctly to look at the male "Me? Why me?"
"Well- I- Uhm," Etho stumbled over his words not sure where to start
"Etho? What's going on?" You asked and crawled to be in front of him before cupping his face, which was warm. His cheeks were so warm and his eyes avoided looking at you and you could only wonder what he was gonna say but anxiety pooled in your gut. As he paused to find his words, you thought back to anything you might've done to piss him off since the beginning of the season
"Y/n," He finally said and ripped you away from your thoughts "I'm in love with you. I understand if you don't like me like that and if you hate me but I have to tell you. I fell in love with your eyes, the way you walk, the way you talk, your laugh, and how you hiccup after every time you eat. I fell in love with the builder who cleans my messy building style and who can watch me do and talk redstone for hours on end without falling asleep. I fell in love with my best friend. Y/n, I fell in love with you and I can only hope you can return my feelings."
His face was burning even more and now his cheeks matched the color of the shiny redstone he tinkers with.
And you? You were breathless
"Oh Etho," You cooed out softly  and cup his face again "I'm in love with you too. I'm in love with the way your eyes shine like jewels, The way you cackle when a prank went your way, and how the moon shines upon you like your own personal spotlight. I'm in love with the crazy redstone ninja who pushes me to do everything I can even when I don't think I can, I fell in love with the person whos been by my side the longest anyone ever been. I fell in love with you Etho. And you are all I could ever ask for, So no I don't hate you and god I wish I had done this sooner."
"How long? Cause I've had this crush since season 3 and that's even before I knew." Etho said with a bashful smile "I don't think I old you because I thought I wasn't good enough for you. You deserve the best Y/n."
"Oh, Etho," You sighed and leaned in to press soft kisses to his face "To me, You are perfect. You have bewitched me with body, mind and soul, and void, I love you, I love you, I love you."
With that last 'I love you', You press a kiss to his lips over his mask
"And I will continue to love you, even when all the mortals have forgotten about us and we are nothing but stardust." You murmured against his masked lips
but after a second or so, there wasn't any piece of cloth in between their lips and slightly chapped lips met yours as Etho's hands cupped your face and tangled into your hair.
"Please be my partner. Please let me be by your side and I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever." Etho pleaded against your lips, and his words had you in a chokehold
oh how you loved this man
"Yes, I thought that was obvious."
I know it's never good to delude yourself too much but the results of the struggle seem good to me (obviously I'm going by logic, the world of entertainment is not my branch), there are parties, letters, spam, works and petitions (here it's slowed down unfortunately, however, it is constant, it does not stop. come on, let's sign some more!) and the discontent against the great n scam continues to create its discontent. obviously these are long things. if we ever have good news it will be in the spring at the earliest. in the meantime you need to understand what product to offer. then who offers it. negotiations will begin between n and potential buyers. we will not speak until we are sure. The important thing, however, is not to give up on showing ourselves interesting so that we don't get anything. there are 3 hypotheses at this point (if we don't give up. but we didn't do all this for nothing, right?). first hypothesis: we get the spin off and a last season of Alina (moreover we will never have love but at least we would have an end right? ah obviously first the crows then Alina. only for chronological reasons. not only because the script has been written but because the spin-off events happen first). this would be the best. second hypothesis: a film about crows and one about Alina (no longer six hours or 8 but 3. a sad compromise but better than a good kick in the ass, right?) third hypothesis: given that the author has said that a TV series about Alex will start and that n no longer holds the rights to shadow... well maybe someone will think of starting from scratch in a few years (and only because there will be Alex's TV show otherwise bye bye) but we have to wait years assuming this happens. we wouldn't have that cast anymore and who can assure us that the new work isn't proverbial crap? ok it's the last resort and I would be fine with it... but the first option is better, right? in any case nothing will be known before spring... in the meantime please let's move on... at least for a while since they have renewed shows with lower figures than this. that would be really bad luck!!!!
mushy may day 8: first time/sick fic
I chose sick fic
pairing: cumulus/cirrus
dew is an honorable mention I guess
I was gonna do the other prompt but I'm not comfortable writing smut yet 😭
summary: cirrus gets sick and cumulus makes her her favorite soup. they both cuddle n go to sleep together <3 at the end dew finds some and eats it.
Tumblr media
the sound of knuckles tap on cirrus's door as she lays in her bed. she has a pounding headache and sore throat. she's had a fever ever since she woke up, keeping herself buried in blankets.
"who is it?" she coughs, turning to face the door. her eyes crack open to see cumulus opening the door to show herself.
"Its just me! I thought maybe you'd want me to get you something? I feel bad seeing you just lay here all day."
"Oh, it's alright. I don't know if there's anything you can do, really."
"I brought some medicine for you. how about I go get you something to eat?" she smiles gently at cirrus, awaiting a response from her. her tone is patient, letting her know she can take her time to answer if needed.
"hm... I'll try to eat something. you can get me some soup if you want."
"are we going with the classic chicken noodle. soup or your favorite?"
cirrus smiles, her favorite soup is potato soup, but specifically the way cumulus makes it. something about it is always so warm and comforting, no one else can seem to do it right.
"you already know my answer."
cumulus laughs as she leaves, closing the door behind her. as soon as she shuts it, her voice sounds from the hall.
"I'll be back!"
cirrus listens to cumulus's footsteps in the halls while she runs off. she's always there to help, the most selfless ghoul cirrus could ever name. cumulus has always been so nice to be around. so comforting. so friendly.
the dim lighting of her room makes it easy for her to fall asleep, and the soft blankets just add on. she can't help but smile at how comfortable she feels, despite her headache. just knowing cumulus is here to take care of her is enough to cure her.
cumulus stirs vegetables and broth together, a wide grin on her face. she carefully slices the potatoes into the size chunks that cirrus likes most. she adds seasonings, making it smell even better than it did before. she prepares herself a bowl when it finishes, unable to ignore how hungry she is, especially after cooking something that smells so enticing.
"knock kno-" cumulus enters cirrus's room again to find her sound asleep, cutting herself off. she sighs happily and sets a bowl beside cirrus, right on her night stand. not wanting to bother her, she finds a chair and sits down, turning on the tv and putting it on a low volume thats sure not to wake cirrus up. after a movie or two finishes, cirrus yawns and stretches herself awake, greeted by cumulus.
her face lights up as she watches cirrus wake up. she greets her, her own empty bowl in hand. the sick ghoul looks over to her night stand, a bowl and crackers sat carefully on it.
"aww, you got crackers too? you're so sweet, cumulus." a purr erupts from her while she sits herself up. she grabs the bowl, still warm to the touch despite being there for a while. she holds it up to her nose to smell the perfection of it before tasting it. the seasonings and foods blended into it make it smell so perfect.
"mmm.. is it me or is this even better than usual? did you change anything about the recipe?"
"nope. I just put a little extra love into it." cumulus laughs, her attention is completely focused on the other ghoulette, completely ignoring the movie on screen. cirrus almost can't feel the pain of how sick she is, too full of happiness from the help of the other air ghoulette. her cheeks are dusted red, even more than what her illness had made them.
cirrus finishes her soup and looks over to cumulus.
"you can lay here if you want. I know how uncomfortable that old chair is."
"don't mind if I do." cumulus curls up to cirrus, wrapping her arms around her and purring. their tails twist around each other into a knot, and their breathing matches. their hearts beat slowly and comfortably as they drift off to sleep together in each other's arms.
meanwhile
"ooooooo!" dew sniffs the air in the kitchen, his moth drooling. he's been playing guitar all day, finally deciding to eat once his stomach's growls become near impossible to ignore. he finds to pot of soup, his eyes wide and sparkling. no one can resist cumulus's cooking.
list 8 tv shows for your followers to get to know you ★ i was tagged by @disappearinginq
Psych - My first true obsession since the X-Files went off the air in 2001. My biggest obsessions of the past were all WELL before streaming was a thing which meant you HAD to be in front of the TV when it aired or you simply missed out. For example, I missed the final episode of the OG MacGyver. I didn't get to see it until I bought the complete DVD box set decades later. (special mention of Monk which led me to Psych back in the great days of USA Network)
Sherlock - I was late to the party and didn't start watching until after the last season ended. This is, since 2017, my biggest current obsession. I have a strong attachment to detective shows and can't believe how long it took to finally watch. I love, in particular, the portrayal of the characters by Benedict, Martin, Amanda, Mark, Louise, Rupert, and Una (rip).
Fullmetal Alchemist (OG and Brotherhood) - Same, @disappearinginq! My love for this world never ends! Like you there are things I love about both versions. The way Brotherhood developed characters and the wider world (plus the ending) are so so good!! Meanwhile the first series handled certain emotional episodes SO much better!!! I'm sure you know WHICH one in particular. This was also one of the only times I took part in a writing group to help develop the multi-arc vision of a writer who goes by Heathenesque. I didn't write much as most has been created by her but it was so much fun! It still exists on LJ, as well as Mediaminer and The Pit (FFN).
Cowboy Bebop - The first anime anything I ever saw. My brother-in-law had it on VHS back in the day and was watching it at our house. I took an interest and was immediately hooked. I have lost track how many times I've rewatched episodes and there's a reason its considered one of the best anime series created.
Good Omens - WE NEED SEASON 3!!! Entirely quirky and initially feels like just comedy. But my GOSH there is so much depth under the humor and it poses very solid questions about faith and religion as well as friendship, love, what being human means, etc. And that was just the first season. I'm still not emotionally recovered from season 2.
Star Trek - Again, like @disappearinginq I love this show - TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I even had them on VHS back when cassettes were sexy lol. Star Trek was one of my earliest fandoms and I had such a crush on Spock.
Doctor Who - Thank goodness for streaming cause I watch this on repeat aaaaaall the tiiiime!! I consider it a comfort show and I don't get tired of it no matter how often I rewatch. It may be packed with, often, silly effects (particularly early on) and deeply questionable science. But I also haven't cried harder from the most wrenching scenes and emotion it triggers.
My Foundation - I'm dedicating this last one to the shows that built the tastes I'd have as an adult: MacGyver, Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, Remington Steele, Scarecrow & Mrs. King, The A-Team, Magnum PI, Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Beauty & the Beast, The Fall Guy, Knight Rider, Moonlighting, as well as Saturday morning cartoons, The Electric Company, and Sesame Street.
Tagging: @sgam76 @theleftpill @mrs-n-uzumaki @mamahanu @villaniouslyawesome @ceruleanmindpalace @copperplatebeech @ariaadagio @aelaer
What are your thoughts on Kenobi?
hiiiiiiiii ❤️ thanks for asking!
so I'm still pretty sick n feverish rn so these thoughts might be a bit scattered. I think it's important to know that I went into kenobi with relatively low expectations. after watching boba fett, the final season of tcw, etc, I don't rlly expect these series to be much more than frilly filler that dismisses it's own source material and let's just say kenobi didn't do much to shift that expectation.
It was a waste of Hayden: despite being a they/them, I am now, forever and since the age of 8, a Hayden Christensen girlie!!! But my mans was WASTED, I understand he was (allegedly) in the Vader suit the whole time but....its a waste. At bare minimum there shoulda been more ani/obi prequel flashbacks woven throughout each ep instead of that one in ep 5. Like they dragged him off the farm to cosplay darth Vader. I wanna know what Disney has on him to make him do this because lord love a duck, this was pathetic and using him so heavily in the press was akin to false advertising.
Individualism is a DISEASE: I'm currently writing a video essay about Anakin so I'm not gonna elaborate a lot on this point here except to say that having Anakin claim that HE HIMSELF killed Anakin Skywalker is an INSULT to how the prequels clearly placed the blame for Anakin's turning on the Jedi on multiple factors, many of which were systemic, to the point where even in the prequels Anakin CONSISTENTLY outloud blames the Jedi for making him this way. That, "I did" line in ep 6 was completely unearned and spat in the face of George Lucas's Anakin characterisation. And for what? all to free obi wan of a guilt he has every fucking justification to feel. Anakin was never EVER solely responsible for becoming Darth Vader. To have him say so just Disney depoliticising star wars, as they've been doing since TFA by making characters into fucking toys.
Leia, I'd kill for you: about the only thing that kept me watching after ep 3, apart from the hope of seeing Hayden, was Leia. Vivien Blair was absolutely adorable and did such a wonderful job emulating Carrie Fishers energy without just imitating. Along with her performance, I appreciated seeing characterised and fleshed out as a main character, rather than a side character in someone else's story. She was perfect and her and Ewan were so lovely on screen I was just 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 the whole time. She was the star of this silly series as far as I'm concerned.
The racism...yikes! I've talked about reva on my blog already so I'm not gonna repeat it, but putting Tala, a brown woman, in Nazi adjacent costuming for the majority of her screen time and then killing her off to save the white dude? Yikes. Also, Sung Kang being inhumanely evil and green? Literally dehumanising. Also, Kumail being untrustworthy criminal grifter? Nope. I was so shocked Oshea Jackson's char lived because the racism in this series was so bad.
The environmentals were appalling: this is a gripe I have with all Disney + content, but the fact that this show about Obi Wan made in 2022 looks more visually bland and flat than movies made in the early 00s is EMBARRASSING. Ani and Obi fought twice in this stupid show and on both occasions the environment was essentially interchangeable!!!! You could not say that about any of the duels in the prequels because they actually have visually compelling narratively relevant settings!
Natalie Holt and John Williams collabing on the score was soooooooo good. Natalie being such a gifted fresh composer combined with John Williams legendary star wars tracks made for the most outstandingly scored d+ show to date. The score made it for me, honestly
A prequel only works as an emotionally driven tragedy: the thing about making something that's sandwiched between 2 establishment events in the story is that your only option to actually making it compelling is to focus on building emotional conflict over plot. Sadly, this show made its central conflicts all plot and hardly any emotion. Every cliffhanger was things we knew the answers to already, yet the show wants you to be worried that Luke Skywalker might die?? Laughable. When Obi says, "then my friend is truly dead" that's what should have been foregrounded as the main conflict for Obi Wan. Not whether Darth will learn of the kids, or whether reva will kill him or whatever the fuck! The throughline for the show should have been obi wan believing there was still good in him, Obi Wan believing that Anakin could be turned back, but we never get a proper sense that he actually believes any of that. Moreover, the actions he takes like protecting leia, burying his saber, the nightmares, his conversations with Reva - they all speak to him already accepting Anakin as being dead and just being Darth. That "then my friend is truly dead" line is so utterly unearned and unnecessary that it's almost funny. That line should have been TRAGIC but it's not because the show never invests in the emotional conflict of it, just stupid plot conflict we know will be resolved anyway.
Padme: I really loved how much this series acknowledged Padme's loss as equal to Anakin's in terms of forces for good lost to tragedy. Truly the only and most compelling emotional arch for Obi in this silly show was him figuring out how to tell leia about who her parents were without imparting the pain of losing them. Again this is one of the few genuinely positive things I can say about the show because it was something actually character focused.
A waste of qui gon - lmao it's hilarious to me that qui gon was literally the guy who chose Anakin to be the chosen one and is essentially responsible for putting ALL THIS into motion, but the forces that be on this wasteful show are like, "let's just have him cameo for a quip at the end". Borderline insulting!!!!!!!! Like qui gon DIED fighting for Anakin to be trained as a Jedi and abandoning obi to train him alone and we don't even get to see them have a meaningful conversation about any of that? Fuck off.
Endless repetition: I literally hate that the so-called iconic moments in this show are mostly just the show imitating what's already been done. Like Darth and Obis 2nd fight is just copy paste Ahsoka and Darths fight from TCW right down to the dialogue and most of the visuals. The whole rescuing Leia from the base is just imitating ANH without saying anything interesting too and sure obi said the "hello there" but Why are people treating that as meaningful when it's just a fucking gag reference?? If I wanted to watch ANH or ROTS I woulda just done that, I wanted something new. God forbid the show purporting itself as a character piece actually....be a character piece.
Anyways, I can't say I fully regret watching it. As I said, elements were enjoyable. But there was nothing in it that really justified its existence to me. Like, this coulda been a really fun star wars novella and I probably woulda been fine with it, but promoting it on the strength of ewan and Hayden returning and mostly wasting their time on screen with shit we already know that's inconsistent at best and shallow fan service repeating what's been done at worst just left a bad taste in my mouth. Those of us who loved and grew up on the prequels deserved better. Ewan was giving really fucking sad, hot uncle vibes though so I suppose it'll always be there for a thirst watch 🤷🏻
Tumblr media
jj maybank x neutral!reader
warnings: season 2 episode 8 spoilers, cursing, abusive parents, violence
part of #obx2celebration
masterlist
ask me anything
summary below the cut to avoid spoilers
requests: so you know (I think it’s episode 8) where Kie is stuck in the car with jjs dad and they fight? what if instead of Kie it was the reader or something and just maybe a little bit more to that scene, maybe jj catches them fighting and they defend each other against his dad?
"No matter what they made you think, you are worth saving. You are worth loving." with jj please! SPOILER ALERT!!! i’m thinking y/n is in kie’s place in that scene where she’s with luke in the truck, and jj overhears y/n defending him to luke and speaking so highly of him. so then jj asks her about it when they’re alone and confessions are made <33
--
There were only a few people you hated in this world and the funny part, was all of them were related to your friends. Ward and Rafe Cameron were definitely top spots on your list, but Luke Maybank sat at the very top with the biggest crown on his head as shittiest person of your life. Ever since you heard him yell at JJ while waiting outside their house, it was downhill from there. You had no room in your heart for parents who treated their kids like shit.
You and JJ had been sent to get the supplies and your dad’s truck in order to pull the Twinkie out of the murky water from the tide. Said boy had gone over to the surf shack of the Chateau in search of the winch you needed but not before gracefully flopping on his face after tripping over a tree branch.
“I’m okay!” He called over his shoulder before disappearing from your view. You rolled your eyes at his clumsy actions before propping your feet up on the dash. It should’ve taken JJ all of a minute to grab the winch and the rope considering they were laying out in open view but once 4 minutes had passed, you began to get suspicious.
“JJ!” You called out as you reached over to honk the horn. You shoved the passenger door open with a groan before climbing down to switch seats. You could hear scuffling nearby causing your heart to race at the idea of someone finding you. Suddenly, JJ appeared from the side of the surf shack with the supplies in hand but who was following him made your blood boil. “What the fuck? No. Immediately no. What is this?”
“Just get in the truck,” JJ ignored you to bark orders at his dad.
You looked at him in shock. “I’m sorry, the Twinkie is drowning right now, JJ! What is the plan, what is this?”
JJ grabbed your cheeks gently. “Babe, listen to me. Listen. I need to get into the marina at the Island Club. There’s a boat there that he can take. You got the sticker on your truck. Twenty minutes, that’s all I need.”
“The Twinkie’s gonna be a submarine in 20 minutes!” You honestly didn’t care so much for the van and its inevitable sinking, but the fact that it was JJ’s dad holding you up is what pissed you off even more. “Leave him and we can come back!”
JJ’s hands slammed on the hood of the truck as he snapped, “The cops are after him. If I do this now, maybe I will never have to do it again.”
With a loud groan, you turned back towards the truck and didn’t miss the opportunity to glare at the monster in your backseat. “Don’t even look at me,” You directed as you climbed in and started the engine.
The drive was awkwardly silent between the three of you and you had to bite the urge to crank the music up to a deafening level to drown out the tension. You just hoped your friends didn’t try to chop your heads off when you came back to a drowned van.
“Hey, pull up to Home Foods here. I’m gonna need provisions,” Luke commented from the backseat. You rolled your eyes at his voice but decided against making a snappy return as you drove up to the store.
JJ tossed the door open as soon as you parked while his dad barked his order, “Crackers and baked beans and tuna, alright? And some salt and pepper. Five day’s worth!”
You could’ve killed JJ for leaving you in the car with his dad, but it gave you a great opportunity to spit some shit at Luke. “You’re a terrible father, did you know that?”
He stopped the obnoxious drumming on the backseats at your rhetorical question. “Yeah, preach it to me. Set me straight.”
“Do you have any idea how special your son is?” You asked as you continued to watch for JJ to exit the store. “Like even a clue?”
“He’s a thief is what he is.”
“And what the hell are you?” You clapped back as you blinked. “You’re just a wasted local salt who never did shit but get messed up and hustle people. Not exactly impressive.”
Luke started laughing which only pissed you off further. “You know, the day JJ said he found himself someone, I had a feeling it would be you. Always thinking you’re better than everyone else. Kook royalty. You know, I bet you love slumming it with him, makes you feel better about yourself, like you’re helping the poor peasants on this island. Are you an ungrateful shit just like JJ? Hopping up there on your high horse, riding around in your daddy’s car even though you have your own? Just showing off, aren’t you, Y/N?”
Your body moved before you thought the whole process through and your elbow connected to Luke’s nose with a crack. You turned and glared at him as he clutched his bloody face. “Keep my name out of your goddamn mouth.”
Little did you know, JJ had stood in the store’s doorway and watched you argue with his father. He knew he shouldn’t have left you alone in the first place, but the second you smashed his dad’s nose in, a small smile formed on his face. He was proud of you, for sure, but he felt so warm with the idea that you stood up for him.
“Hey.” JJ let out a sharp whistle when he walked down the steps and handed his dad a six pack of beer before placing the rest of the supplies in the back of the truck. He opened the passenger door, sparing his dad a look for his bloody nose before facing you.
“Let’s get this over with, yeah?” You said, ignoring the confused expression on his face as he nodded.
The drive was silent, minus Luke’s occasional groan. You could feel JJ’s eyes glance to you every now and then, almost as if he was waiting for you to snap and start screaming. The guard let you all through without a second glance when you pulled up to the Island Club. You parked as close to the docks as you could before turning the truck off. JJ hopped out first and moved to grab the food.
Luke evidently wasn’t done bothering you as he climbed out and stood by your door with his head in the window. “Hey, you have all the fun you can get with my boy, you hear me?” JJ smacked his dad’s shoulder, telling him to shut up before they started walking towards the dock.
“Hey, Luke!” Once he turned around, you smirked and raised your middle finger in retaliation for all the shit he said.
JJ didn’t have a moment to process before his dad was rushing towards you in a fit of anger.  A spike of fear flew through you before you moved fast enough to throw the car door out at the right time, slamming it into Luke’s stomach. You hopped out of the truck as he fell to the ground. “Don’t you ever, and I mean ever, talk about JJ like that to me. Do you hear me? I may look all Kook royalty, but I won’t hesitate to knock the shit out of you like you’ve never seen before,” You hissed as you leaned down to speak to him.
You gave JJ a look before stepping around his pathetic father to climb in the passenger side of the truck. They eventually disappeared out of sight down by the dock, and it was then that you let your walls break and the first tears started falling. A whirlwind of emotions came from thinking about what all your boyfriend had gone through because of his dad.
So much had happened in these last few days and you felt like you hadn’t had time to process emotions. It was reasonable for anyone to need to take a breather. Not to mention, you hardly had time alone with JJ. You relied on each other more often than not to help sort through life’s challenges or just distract each other from reality. Not to mention, he was a great cuddler. Your chest tightened with all of the thoughts running through your mind and instantly, all you wanted was to hug your boyfriend.
Pushing open the door of the truck, you took off running down the docks where Luke had just pushed off. JJ stood there with his back to you, blond fluffy hair moving with the breeze. You didn’t hesitate to wrap your arms around his waist from behind, burying your head in his shoulder. JJ took a shuddering breath at your presence and you glanced over to see him holding two prescription bottles that he took from his dad.
You rubbed his arms comfortingly, feeling his body shake from crying. He moved sharply to throw the pill bottles into the garbage. He stood there for a moment, just letting everything sit in his head and process.
JJ’s eyes met yours shortly after and he stepped forward to wrap you tightly in his embrace. You clutched the back of his shirt in your fingers, letting his tears drop onto your head. “JJ, I’m really proud of you. And no matter what he made you think, you are worth saving. You are worth loving, and I’m not gonna sit there and let your dad of all people tell you otherwise.”
“I love you,” JJ’s voice cracked as he cradled you closer, holding you as if you would disappear if he let go. “You mean so much to me, and-and I heard what you said to my dad earlier, in the truck, when he was just…” He took a deep breath and kissed your forehead. “Thank you, for not giving up on me.”
You tucked your head into JJ’s neck and moved your arms to hug him under his jacket, fingers pushing up the back of his shirt to feel his bare skin. The contact meant so much to you, brought you back to earth and re-centered your thoughts. “I love you so much, J. There’s no way I would ever give up on you. Besides, how am I gonna face a drowned Twinkie without your backup?”
JJ let out a teary laugh and you two pulled apart, not without sharing a small kiss before. You walked down the docks tucked under JJ’s arm as the sun warmed your back and happy thoughts took over once again.
A/N:  I suck at writing for Sandor but this is only my first attempt.  Be kind, and comment if you feel so inclined. (:
Also I'll be reblogging this later with the AO3 link.
You'd tossed and turned all night.   Every night without Sandor by your side was fitful.  A generous quantity of wine before bed helped, just not enough. You had spent so many years comforted by your husband's warmth and sheer size that it just didn't feel right trying to find slumber without Sandor's arms wrapped around you, his warm breath and soft snores in your ear.  The burly mastiff that the Clegane house had provided as a wedding gift those years ago huffed and curled up behind your knees, attempting to provide you with the company you were so sorely lacking.  The pressure of the massive dog leaning into you was all that encouraged you to somnolence, as you imagined a much more substantial hound was providing you the warmth needed for rest.
***
The sharp clank of your door's lock shifting roused you instantly.  The mastiff sprang to its paws and a growl rose from deep in its chest, but a heavy gauntleted hand patted the creature's head and calmed it instantly.  "All right, you bloody mutt.  That's a good dog."
It felt like a dream, hearing that deep rasp.  It had been a dream on so many occasions since Sandor left to accompany Queen Sansa on her visit to consult Bran in the Crownlands.  You'd slept so little the entire time he had been absent that it felt like a vision, suddenly seeing your husband's towering visage before you.
After shoeing your mastiff into the hall, Sandor sat down heavily before you on the bed, and discarded his gauntlets upon the floor.  The moment you sat up he captured your face in large, calloused hands and kissed you with a ferocity that took your breath away.  His kisses could be harsh but his lips were soft, save for the fur around his mouth that tickled you.  For a lingering moment you wondered if this perfect moment was indeed just another dream.
With a low rumble under his breath Sandor pulled away, planting the softest kiss upon your forehead, before wrapping huge arms around you and folding you against his chest.  If there were seven heavens then this was indubitably one of them, surrounded by your husband's warmth, the light musk of his skin, and his fingers absent-mindedly stroking your bed-befuddled hair.
"I was wondering if you were ever coming back," you jested quietly, turning your face up to meet Sandor's gaze.  Your chiding words were immediately punished by sharp teeth nipping at your lips, followed by a tender kiss where he'd now left a light red mark.  You clutched his thickly furred jaw in both hands, thumbs occasionally ghosting over his cheekbones, almost trying to convince yourself he was real.
Sandor leaned back, suddenly looking lost.  He got like this sometimes, especially following any significant absence of you.  Originally you only saw this reaction out of him when you'd stroke or kiss the marred half of his face; you'd always loved pressing your lips to that downward-drooping brow.  It had bewildered Sandor for the longest, the fact that not only did you have no qualms about looking at him, you had no apprehensions about touching his melted skin.  An almost tranced expression overcame his face, his thumb stroking your cheek absent-mindedly as you moved closer to him.
"I missed you," Sandor rumbled hoarsely, his wolfish gaze of his good eye dropping to your lips.
"And I love you."
"Mm. Daft as always," Sandor grunted, with his tiny quirk of a smile, before kissing you once more with fervor.
"I was going to offer you wine but you already taste like it," you chuckled against his mouth.  You had long since begun to associate the deep sugary flavor of red wine with Sandor's coarsely furred lips, and you were perfectly fine with that.
"What the fuck else am I supposed to do on that ride back?  Besides.  The Broken King can afford Dornish red."
"Don't call him that."  You gave Sandor the same puppy eyes you did when he casually insulted any of your acquaintances in the Stark family.
Sandor snorted and suddenly you were being pushed back onto the bed.  "Quit your talking," he rasped.  "We've got lost time to make up for."
You weren't about to argue with the huge man as his lips found your neck and he deftly undid the lacing of your dress until it loosened from your shoulders, revealing your chest and stomach to him.  Looking you up and down, Sandor absent-mindedly drew his lower lip between his teeth.  He looked hungry, not unlike the way he appeared when he was itching for a fight to start.
More lacings came undone and more harsh kisses and bites ensued.  Sandor worked his way down your body, nipping at your collarbone then showing delicacy to your nipples - swirling his tongue around them until you shivered and tightened your fingers' grip in his hair.  You loved the fact that his hands were more than large enough to entirely encompass each of your breasts in his palms, and that his mouth was deft in his exploration of your body.
It was not long before Sandor was wriggling your dress over your hips and discarding it upon the floor, before taking a moment to admire the form of his wife, drinking in your visage.  He had this way of smiling at you that didn't quite reach his mouth but the crinkles around his eyes betrayed that he was pleased.  He ran one large, rough hand down your side and over the sharp curve of your hip, before taking your knee and spreading you open before him.
He kissed your inner thighs delicately, starting near your knees and moving closer and closer to your core.  His beard tickled you here and there but that was soon forgotten when his warm mouth reached your nub, his large tongue languidly lapping up and down your folds.  One calloused hand gripped the junction where your thigh met your hip, while the other tentatively stroked your entrance, gauging how ready you were.
"Sandor, please," you breathed, and that was all he needed.  Two long, thick fingers slid into you, before curving upward in a come-hither motion, stroking the spot inside you that made your eyes roll back immediately.  His talented tongue swirling around your nub had you shuddering uncontrollably and tightening around his fingers, making Sandor sigh against you in satisfaction - a low noise that reverberated through your core and had your thighs quivering on either side of his head.
Your fingers twisted in his hair, attempting to gather long locks away from his face the way he would for you when your mouth was full of his cock.  Gasps and mutters of his name fell from your lips as you felt shocks snaking up through your body.  His fingers quickened their pace, bringing you closer and closer to the edge, as he suckled at your nub like his life depended on it.
For a moment you looked down at the tantalizing man between your legs, overcome with the fact that it was him you had managed to marry and that was pleasuring you, the Hound, that was exploring you so intimately.  Years of being together had never dulled this exhilaration; had never lessened the inherent excitement of being ravished by this notoriously huge, powerful man.  For a moment his "good" eye met your gaze; the other eye was too weighed down by his maimed, melted brow to see you at such an angle.
"Sandor, I'm -"  Your voice cut off suddenly, unable to process the amount of sensation coursing through you.
In response he slipped a third finger into you, at which point you were certain he was not simply enjoying playing with you, he was getting you ready.  "Go ahead."  His rasping voice rumbling against you, and the sudden crook of his fingers inside you against that special spot was all you needed.  You tightened your grip in Sandor's hair and cried out as stars burst behind your eyelids, your back arching up off the bed.
A fewmioments and Sandor sat up as you lay quivering and spent, wiping your moisture from his lips and beard.  His eyes were dark with lust, and he was breathing nearly as hard as you were.
As you slowly came down from the high that his ministrations provided, you had the pleasure of watching Sandor stand and shed his layers.  He was quite adept at undoing his own armor, the result of having never accepted a squire, swiftly leaving him in the loose small-clothes that were your honor to remove.  You sat up, still remarkably shaky in the legs, and took the hem of his tunic in your hands.  You laid a kiss upon each section of your husband's flesh that you revealed, savoring the soft tickle of the dark hair that covered the expanse of his broad chest and abdomen.
Tunic removed, you graduated down to the buttons of his trousers, teasingly avoiding the swelling you encountered.  Your husband's arousal was no small thing to avoid - to your original intrigue and dismay, you had discovered Sandor was exactly as well-endowed as one would assume a man of his stature might be. You kissed the deep brown fur from his collarbone to his navel, while your hands worked on freeing him from the confines of his trousers.
Cloth slipped over his hips and Sandor sighed in relief, his stiffened length no longer uncomfortably restrained.  You began laying adoring kisses on your husband's stomach, following the thick trail of brown curls from his navel to his root.  A low rumble worked its way out of the huge man as you placed more kisses on either side of his cock, his warm shaft just barely grazing your cheek.
"Enough," Sandor growled, taking a handful of your hair, and once again you found yourself being gripped by the shoulder and pushed back onto the bed, though with more fervor this time.  He crawled onto the bed after you, a hungry, predatory gleam in his eyes as he moved atop you.
Sandor clutched your face in both large hands, resting his forehead against yours.  His breath was hot on your face and his  warm member slid back and forth over your entrance, his leaking length heavy and rubbing against your nub.  You squirmed a little in anticipation beneath Sandor as his tip sought your entrance.
Sandor's lips found yours again before he leaned into you, the weight of his body driving his cock home.  You gasped sharply, all of you tensing as he filled you suddenly and nearly to the hilt, your fingers tangling frantically in your husband's llong hair. You couldn't blame him - he was desperate, he needed to be one with his wife after all this time, but that didn't change the fact that in his urgency Sandor was forgetting you might need some extra time to adjust to him after all these moons of his absence.
Sandor drew back, his lips exploring from your jaw to your ear. Your nails dug into his shoulders and you yelped as he bottomed out in you with the next thrust; he still wasn't even buried to the hilt.  With a few insistent strokes the burn of him stretching you began to fade, or it became easier to ignore when Sandor filling you to the brim was sending shocks resonating through your core.
If you really needed convincing to ignore the short-lived pain of his entrance, Sandor sank his teeth into the side of your neck, distracting you with a sensation he knew you responded well to.  The bite was sharp but sent a delicious, dull ache resonating through you as he held on, like a dog mounting its bitch.  You were fully aware that this would be a blue or purple bruise tomorrow, the way his teeth were baring into you, but you didn't care.  In fact the prospect excited you particularly.  Few things satisfied you as much as visible reminders that you belonged to the Hound - it was your honor to wear the marks of the Clegane dog claiming you, branded in your own misplaced blood.  Perhaps one day that honor would be worn as a swollen belly full of Sandor's pups.
You wrapped your legs snugly around his midsection, allowing a less overwhelming angle as his pace began to pick up rapidly.  What had been relatively methodical strokes were now frantic and restless, eliciting gasps and shrill moans from you every time Sandor's cock came up against that wall deep inside you, sending tendrils of sharp pleasure up through you.  Your eyes rolled back in your head and the rest of the world began to drop away, nothing existing in that moment but your union with Sandor; the musk of his skin surrounding you, the tickle of his dark helical strands falling around your face, the breath-taking sensation of him filling you relentlessly.  He was absolutely intoxicating.
The force of his rutting eventually sent you over the edge again, and you cried out frantically enough that you stuffed your own fist into your mouth with celerity.  Sandor immediately grasped your wrist, holding your hand captive above your head.  "No," he snarled, gripping the hair of the back of your head, "let them hear what I'm doing to you."  Undoubtedly referring to adjacent rooms in the castle.  You whimpered against Sandor's furred lips, unable to control your body tightening around him convulsively, drawing from him his own climax.  Sandor took your throat between his teeth with a low snarl as he suddenly spilled into you, his warm seed filling you to the point of overflowing.
You kept your legs tightened around your husband's waist as he loosened his teeth on your flesh and rested his damp forehead against the swoop of your shoulder. You were unwilling to experience the absence of him within your body just yet.  Sandor's cock still pulsed and twitched, his breath ragged on your neck, as your insides milked the last few drops out of him.
A small whine escaped you as Sandor withdrew slowly, settling beside you on the bed and collecting you to his chest.  You nuzzled against the soft curls of his collarbone and gently entwined your legs with his.  "I love you," Sandor rumbled sleepily, resting his chin atop your head.
"Welcome home, love."  You laid a languid series of tender kisses beneath his jaw, though Sandor was already snoring softly, arms still clasped solidly around you.  You smiled against his chest, and it wasn't long until you fell into the only peaceful sleep you'd found in fortnights.
.:Time and Time Again:. (Marauders Era x Reader) Ch 2
As you reconcile with Sirius, he reminisces on how you came to be friends despite a rather rocky start (mostly told through flashbacks taking place in the Marauders era).
Ch 2 .:Pranks and Past Prejudices:.
~Previously~
“I was about to see if you were awake,” Sirius admitted with a small grin, “Seems we both had the same idea.”
He shifted his weight from foot to foot, stepping aside slightly so you could come in. If the Sirius Black from your school days had offered you into his room in the dead of night, you would have slapped him upside the head; but things were different now, and so were the two of you.
However, as you glanced around the room you almost laughed at how remarkably unchanged it was, and why wouldn't it be? He hadn't lived here since he was sixteen, and he was only living here now because he preferred this house to an Azkaban cell by a small fraction. While the rest of the house was set in deep tones of obsidian and gray, save for the green Slytherin theme of his younger brother's room, Sirius' room was all warm shades of red and gold, Gryffindor paraphernalia covering every inch of it from Quidditch trophies and old banners to a tapestry he had stolen from the Great Hall when they'd won the house cup that year.
The room was littered with memories of your school life— a set of charred robes from when he and James had drunkenly lit the Quidditch field hoops on fire, an old Beater's bat that he had broken in half during the Cup finals, an old Gobstones set you used to play with in the courtyard, and stacks of classic rock records that you and Remus had gifted him for the holidays. A muggle toolbox sat in the corner of the room from when he'd made improvements to his enchanted motorbike that couldn't be done with magic, which you were certain his parents were mortified by.
Posters of bikini-clad women were plastered across the wallpaper, and you recalled the day he told you his mother had a fit when she realized he'd used a permanent sticking charm on them so she couldn't take them down. Said posters were still present, but mostly covered up by all the photos of him and his friends from their school and early Order days— the only noticeable sign of change you could see from his moving back in. It was truly like some sort of time capsule.
As soon as you tore your eyes away from the room and turned to focus on its owner, a tense silence fell between you two. This was the first time you had seen Sirius in over a decade. The last time you two spoke, he was in chains being led away to Azkaban. What was there to say? How could you possibly think things could go back to the way they were?
“Sirius,” your voice cracked with emotion as you said his name, and when you saw the look in his eyes, so similar to the look he'd given you when he was in that horrible barbed cage during his trial, the dam just broke.
You practically threw yourself at him, sobbing quietly into his shoulder as the fabric of his shirt bunched up in your trembling hands
“I'm sorry,” you said, “I am so, so sorry I didn't believe you, Sirius. I didn't know, I didn't—”
“(Y/n), it's okay,” Sirius said softly.
You almost jumped at his gentle touch, his arm wrapping around your waist and one hand coming up to pet your hair. It hurt him to see you like this, that you went through this much because of him.
“There was no way you could have known,” he said, resting his chin on top of your head as tears continued to stream down your face, “There was no proof that I wasn't the Secret Keeper. We'd decided to make it that rat at the last second. Only James and Lily knew and, well, they couldn't exactly attest to my innocence.”
Hatred bubbled up in his chest at his own mention of Pettigrew, but he forced it down for you, his expression softening as soon as he looked at you. “That was bad judgment on my part, I suppose,” he said in an attempt to lighten the mood, although twelve years in prison was a difficult matter to joke about.
“I should have just believed you,” you muttered into his collar. Sirius' other hand reached out to cup your face, wiping the last few tears from your cheeks.
“Come now, even Moony thought I'd done it,” he said, a small smirk finding its way to his face, “I know what it looked like. . . I don't blame any of you for not believing me. So please, don't blame yourself for this, (Y/n). You're still my best friend.”
“Oh, now you've done it,” you sniffled, laughing despite yourself as fresh tears spilled over. Sirius laughed along with you and yo u could feel the sound reverberate through his chest, rich and melodic. Warm.
He wrapped both his arms around you, holding you tight as you two chuckled like a couple of idiots, standing there glassy-eyed in the middle of his room. If anyone else had bore witness to the scene they'd have thought you'd gone mad, but in that moment you couldn't care less. Your body had been buckling under the weight of your guilt and how much you had missed him. Hearing him say that he still considered you his best friend. . . that was more than you could have ever asked for.
Sirius swelled with pride as he saw he was able to make you smile, something he'd long considered a small victory. He couldn't believe how much your relationship had changed. If someone had told him all those years ago that you would turn out to be someone he couldn't imagine his life without, he wouldn't have believed them. But he supposed life was unexpected like that. . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   1973  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since the day you'd stood up to him, James Potter found himself increasingly curious about you. Of course he and his friends continued to pick on Snape, but when you were around to fend them off it became more and more difficult to do so, something that the leader of the self-proclaimed Marauders decided was cumbersome.
James insisted that to get to Snape they would have to take you down too, since you were so keen on protecting him.
“We need to cut the head off the snake,” he had said.
And so, slowly but surely, James shifted the cross hairs of his mischief-making from Severus Snape to you. It started out small; a Bat-bogey hex here, some heat sensitive combustion power under your cauldron there. What he didn't expect in the slightest was for you to actually retaliate with pranks of your own.
Quidditch season had just ended as the year came to a close, and James, who was supposed to be helping clean out the Gryffindor tent, was lying on his back and fiddling about with a golden snitch he'd found wedged in the wooden scaffolding. His head perked up as he saw the Lily across the pitch, walking next to you and chatting. He clearly couldn't care less about what, as he had no problem interrupting your conversation.
“Hey, Evans!” he hollered, heading towards you two.
As soon as Lily spotted him she rolled her eyes.
“And now we're walking faster,” she muttered, grabbing you by the arm and tugging you along.
“Aw come on, I just wanna talk,” he said, quickly catching up with you. Before long he had jogged a few paces ahead, turning around to block your path. “Hey,” he said with a smirk. He was wearing his Quidditch practice uniform, broom in hand.
“Merlin, you are nothing if not persistent,” Lily huffed.
“What can I say? I'm a Chaser~”
“Goodbye, James,” Lily deadpanned at the pun, and he quickly moved in front of her again.
“Wait, wait! Just watch this, okay?” he insisted.
You bit back a smirk, grateful he hadn't paid you any mind until now.
“Trust me, you've never seen anything like this before,” James said cockily, willing his broomstick to hover a few feet off the ground and hauling one leg over to mount it. However, as soon as his arse hit the wood, his entire body phased right through it. He groaned as his tailbone made unceremonious contact with the ground, his broomstick now hovering above him. As soon as he looked up the stick dropped and plonked him on the head, solid again.
You burst out laughing, revealing your wand that had been obstructed from his view by your sleeve.
“(Y/n)!” Lily looked at you in shock, hitting you in the arm playfully but unable to fight the laughter that rose in her chest. It was nice to see him get a harmless taste of his own medicine.
“Well, you were right, Potter,” the redhead said, “I've never seen anything like that before.”
James' face flushed with embarrassment while you two walked away, gathering his broom and whatever remained of his pride. You wouldn't get the better of him again.
Or, at least that's what he told himself until the beginning of your fourth year.
________________________________________________________
James strode down the corridors leading to the Great Hall with a pep in his step. It had been an unusually peaceful morning; despite having slept in, he wasn't in much of a rush to join his friends who had already made their way to breakfast.
The real reason for his quick pace was because he couldn't wait to see your reaction to his latest prank. It was a classic, amped up a bit thanks to a tube of ink from one of the “magic” markers at Zonkos. He hoped you liked your new look, because you were going to be saddled with it for a while.
As he walked through the courtyard he shot a wink to a fourth year Hufflepuff girl he recognized from his Divination class and she covered her hand with her mouth, turning away from him slightly as she tried to hold back the giggles that spilled from her lips. He gave himself a pat on the back, oblivious to the fact that the laughter was directed at him, an unawareness that stayed with him up until the moment he threw the doors to the Great Hall open. The gasps and laughter that followed him only grew as he sat down at his usual spot. Even his friends were staring at him, wide-eyed and unblinking.
“What?” James ran a hand through his hair in confusion, “What are you guys—!!”
As his hair flopped in front of his face his peripheral vision was curtained with the brightest shade of neon turquoise he'd ever seen.
“No,” he said, “no, no, no way!”
He grabbed one of the food trays, dumping the pastries that were on top onto the table. Peter squeaked as he caught a few that were about to fall, setting them down quietly on his own plate.
James stared at his reflection in the shiny metal, and sure enough his once pristine brunette hair was colored the bright blue of the magic marker whose contents he'd dumped into your shower bottle the night before.
“Did you like the shampoo?” a voice behind him asked innocently.
He nearly jumped out of his skin as he turned around to see you, your hair colored the same bright blue shade. Now he was thoroughly confused.
“It smells nice, right?”
“How did you. . . if I. . . why is your hair—”
“A simple connection charm on the shampoo bottle,” you said, “anyone who touches it receives the same benefits and results of the next person who uses it within three hours. In this case, you landed yourself a dye job and a hell of a keratin treatment, so you're welcome. The spell was already on the bottle to begin with; pretty convenient when you have dorm mates that can all save on buying product, and besides it can be kind of nice to skip a hair wash day every once in a while. I suppose I should thank you, I didn't have to do any shopping or sneaking around for this one. You did all the work for me.”
You put your hand to your chin, pretending to study him for a moment.
“You should take care of that fast, though” you said nonchalantly, gesturing to his hair, “you don't look nearly as cute as I do in this color, Potter.”
To further prove your point, you waved your wand around the crown of your head, and with a quick utter of 'aufero hue' the blue in your hair seemed to melt right off the strands, leaving behind your natural (h/c) locks. The color swirled around the tip of your wand in an aqueous state for a moment before you flung it aside. It landed with a splat! against the Gryffindor table, staining a section of the wood that same shade of bright blue as if it had grown that way.
“I'd do it for you myself, but I don't want to,” you smirked, “ Perhaps you could take a few remedial classes to learn the color-leeching charm. Have fun figuring something out!”
And with that you flounced away, leaving behind a very embarrassed, very blue, and very reluctantly impressed James Potter.
He may just have found himself a proper rival.
Sirius scoffed from where he sat.
“Oh please, the stupid charm can't be that hard to do,” he said, taking out his wand.
“Not that I don't have faith in you, mate, but I'm probably better off seeing if Slughorn has anything for this,” James said.
“Why don't you just soak your head in some Valerian water? That's what takes the color out of potions, right?”
“Peter, he might go bald if he does that.”
“Oh.”
_______________________________________________________
James would go on to land a few good jokes on you too. There was one night where you had snuck into the Prefect's bathroom and emerged with a mermaid tail, which was pretty awesome until you realized you had no way of getting out of the tub. From then on, you and James would continue to try and get the jump on one another, marking the start of your now-infamous fourth year prank war. It entertained the students and infuriated the faculty. Gradually, your pranks on one another became more light-hearted, meant to amuse the other person and make them laugh rather than actually hurt or humiliate them.
“Very funny, (L/n),” James said as he walked up to you, his body turned around 180 degrees from the waist up so he had to shuffle backwards to face you. You laughed, nearly choking on your pumpkin juice as you saw your handy work.
“What are you, five?”
“Right, because you're so much more mature stalking and bullying my friends,” you quipped back.
“I really don't understand how Snivelus is your friend.”
“Severus,” you said crossly, “and for the record, I really don't understand how Remus is yours either. He seems like a nice guy.”
“Har har,” James rolled his eyes, “Now would you turn me the right way 'round already? I've got Quidditch practice.”
“Nah, I think you're fine to play like this.”
“Honestly? Not a bad tactic. I can cover my blind spot and stare at my own ass while I fly.”
“Who's five now?” you grinned.
As the months went on, instead of storming over to each other and slinging insults, your interactions with James became more akin to playful banter. And frankly, Sirius didn't get it. You were a Slytherin, and a pureblood at that. Hell, you were a descendant of one of the 28 pureblood families. Everything about you went against everything he believed in and relished in getting away from each year when he would leave home to go to school. You were in the same house as those stupid blood purists, you probably were one yourself—
“You're glaring.”
Sirius blinked, snapping out of his stupor as Remus nudged him in the shoulder. He said nothing, slowly returning to eating his dinner as he tore his eyes away from you, sitting at the Slytherin table with Snivelus, Evan Rosier, and his younger brother of all people. He stabbed at his roast potatoes a little too harshly and his friends traded looks among themselves.
“You alright there, mate?” James asked cautiously.
“Fantastic,” Sirius said, shoving another forkful of potatoes into his mouth to avoid saying anything unsavory as he spotted you heading towards their table.
“Coming to the library today, Remus?” you asked the boy to his right who looked up at you in surprise.
“Oh, sure thing,” he said, “I'm off for the night.”
“Great, we can study for Arithmancy then,” you said. Remus nodded at your suggestion and you gave him a dazzling smile, walking off with your books.
“Since when did you two get so chummy?” Sirius bristled.
Remus rolled his eyes.
“We're just studying for the upcoming mid marks,” he said, “They’re proficient in Ancient Runes and History of Magic. As a study partner it's. . . refreshing.”
“Oi, are you calling us stupid?” James rose a brow.
“Your words, not mine,” Lupin grinned. He saw Sirius' bothered expression and sighed, collecting his things.
“You might get on if you bothered to get to know them,” he told Sirius out of the others' earshot, slinging his book bag over his shoulder before heading off in your direction.
You only continued to grow inadvertently closer to James throughout your fourth year, your prank battle coming to its epic conclusion with the two of you joining forces against some particularly nasty upperclassmen. Your practical jokes subsided, your quips and passing insults were traded for real conversations and walking each other to class. You hated to admit it, but he'd grown on you— especially with him letting up considerably on bullying Severus and annoying Lily lately.
All the while, the closer you got to James the more irritated his best friend became. In Sirius' mind, the more time you were spending with James the less time James was spending with him. They hardly hung out alone anymore. And since James started hanging out with you he started mellowing out, which made Lily start hanging out with him, which made him even more tame. Sirius just wanted his best friend back.
“You do realize that issue would largely be resolved if you weren't so bothered by hanging out with both of them together, right?” Lupin had brought up one night as Sirius was airing out his frustrations.
“I'm not going to bother making friends with someone whose family is so wrapped up in blood politics they forget to be human beings first. Trust me, I've met their mother enough times to know.”
“Have you ever asked them about it?” Remus pressed.
“I don't really need to, do I? They're a (L/n). Open your eyes, Moony!”
Remus' brow furrowed, a shine in his eyes akin to sympathy as he regarded Sirius.
“Perhaps it's you that needs to clear your vision, friend.”

Want me to blow your candle Mr. Padalecki
Summary: Jared wants something special for his birthday but its not what exactly you think
Pairing: Jared Padalecki x Wife!Reader
Word Count: 2098
Warnings: cursing, marriage issues, talk of insemination/pregnancy, physical teasing, finding new kinks
A/N: originally a drabble for Jared’s 39th and where I came up with the rest I don’t know
*no beta-all mistakes are mine
Tumblr media
July 19th
“Are you going golfing this weekend,” you asked coming out of the bath in nothing but a bath sheet passing your husband, who’s reclining on the bed, as you head into the shared closet, “the boy’s camp bus will in Sunday night and I might not be done so you’ll have pick them up.”
You didn’t get a response, “babe, did you hear me?”
Your husband doesn’t respond again as you’re fussing with your undergarments, “Are you getting ready, remember we’re meeting your parents at 7:45 instead of 8:30,” you warily add, “knowing your mum she’s come up with some surprise.”
There’s still no response, “..did you fall asleep on me?”
An unexpected shut down due to the unusually heavy monsoon season delaying Walker’s hiatus had Jared putting in extra hours on the set to finish the season, usually crashing wherever when he was home.
You stick your head out the doorway to see if he’s even in the room.
Jared hadn’t moved, still dressed in his beloved Wounded Warrior shirt, shorts and ever present beanie hiding his shortened hair with a hand tucked between the pillow and headboard just staring towards you.
You climb onto the bed and sit cross legged facing him, looking him over relieved to not see any of the physical telltale signs his illness was acting up inquiring concerned, “you haven’t answered me, is something wrong?”
He doesn’t say anything as his eyes rove over your half clothed body.
You glance down thinking maybe you’ve had a nip slip or have a camel toe.
No, everything’s securely covered in the style of undergarments you always prefer wearing when going out for the evening: matching bralette and thong cause who the hell wears actual pantyhose with the Texas heat!
Jared bits on the tip of his index finger giving you a teasing grin.
Ohh..that’s what he’s up to so you start teasing him back, stroking the inside of his muscular thigh before sliding under the loose leg of his shorts, pleasantly discovering he’s gone commando, lightly brushing over his cock making him twitch.
“Want me to blow your candle Mr. Padalecki?”
He grunts, closing his eyes at the question and stimulation of your fingers playing over his sensitive member, “you know how much I love that babygirl,” he inhales sharply feeling you firmly grip him, “but there’s something else I want.”
“And what’s the birthday boy wishing for this year?”
Reopening his luminous eyes your husband conveys his wish.
“I wanna go bareback and cum in your pussy.”
Releasing him you go to slide off the bed, “you get that right out of your head mister! You can cum anywhere else but that ain’t happening, no sir!”
But Jared’s quicker, his hand snakes out wrapping his long fingers around your smaller wrist, halting you sends a shiver down your spine, reminding you how strong he is even without the bulk he had when you first met over a decade ago.
“You said we could try before I turned forty and I….”
“I said before I turned forty. Apparently you’ve got onset senility because that number is in my rear view mirror.”
Jared gives you his biggest puppy eyes, “please babygirl..can we at least discuss it again.”
Sighing, you pull your wrist loose and entwine your fingers, rubbing your thumb over his larger one because you knew your husband wasn’t going to let it go, especially with today being the last birthday of his thirties and you absolutely did not want him to being the subject up in front of his parents.
“I’ve been seriously thinking about it since Supernatural's ending and…”
“..Jay, between the boys and our careers, when would we have the time for another baby?”
“I’m here..”
“..you’re willing to give up the fourteen hour days on set, the production responsibilities for two am feedings? You’re willing to cut back on your other business ventures to walk all night when they colic? What about personal appearances and online stuff? Or the conventions, you’re planning on doing a diaper change on stage during a gold panel? And I’m sure Jensen would just looove watching you tee off with a papoose on your back!”
He opens his mouth to respond but you continue.
“No, you’re expecting me to shelf my career permanently this time and and...” you exhale loudly unable to finish the thought, feeling like you’re back on the hamster wheel with this, knowing a big part of Jared, while proud of your career and the family you two have made, has always wanted more children, talking about four or five.
And the thing is at one time you wanted it too.
“After we got pregnant with Y/Y/S/N, I erroneously thought you’d wanna quit acting, settle down and do nothing but raise my kids,” Jared barked out a cynical laugh, “there I was about to turn thirty and thinking I was some fucking stud cause I got you pregnant twice in one year. Then everything spiraled out of control.”
You winced at the memory of what should have been some of the best times of your marriage only to turn into the worst barley a year in.
***
It’s been a decade since your first pregnancy and that one had been a surprisingly easy one, allowing you to work throughout it.
Giving birth was a different matter. You had to give up on the planned home delivery due to the baby's size.
Thirteen weeks later you were in Austin ending up at the doctors thinking you caught the flu and didn’t want to risk making your son sick while breastfeeding.
That’s when you got the news you didn’t see coming.
Jared had knocked you up on your honeymoon, talk about cliché for Christ sake and then first time you had sex after giving birth, he’d gotten you pregnant again!
That pregnancy had been the complete opposite.
Having not fully recovered from the first, you ended up having to stay in Texas at your three-quarters renovated home outside Austin and Jared in Vancouver filming.
He initially flew home every weekend but was exhausted from the long shoots making him short tempered while you were out of whack physically and emotionally; caring with your son, dealing with the ongoing construction and a manager who wouldn’t stop harassing you about all the jobs he’s lining up post pregnancy, pressuring you to get back in shape fast, created a volatile mix for many fights.
The last one started over something trivial and you lost it, unloading on Jared like you were possessed. He broke down saying he couldn’t deal with you anymore and was done. He went back to Vancouver that night and stayed.
During your twenty-eight week checkup the doctor called Jared informing him you were being admitted with complications.
Your brother-in-law Jeff and his wife took Y/S/N home with them so he’d be nearby and Jensen called his parents to help, knowing the relationship between you and your in-laws, a mostly cordial one on good days, had completely deteriorated.
You ended up spending the rest of that pregnancy in the hospital before delivering another boy at thirty-five weeks, this time without your husband.
***
Jared pulled off his beanie running a hand through his hair looking contrite, “I have been and can still be a completely immature jackass. Back then, I didn’t stop to consider what you wanted,” he gently squeezed your tangled fingers, “I’m keeping my promise to ask first and never ever assume again. I know you love to work as much as I do but maybe this time we both could discuss making a few concessions?”
He paused waiting for any confirmation you’re willing to continue, “okay Padalecki, what do you propose?”
“I’m not gonna take on any more projects. I told Paul the Mantra stuff has to be on preset days, no more last minute stuff. I can’t promise the online events will be during the week but I'll try to limit them when possible and the cons, you know how they work.”
“I’ve also been discussing next season with Anna, on getting the shooting schedule and production tightened up,” his voice softens, “I found out the writers are expanding next season’s storyline to include flashbacks of Walker and his wife. I told them I want you as Emily.”
“What?”
You listened to Jared continue talking about the advantages of working together, being on similar schedules instead of having to switch off working, leaving the boys only having one parent at home at a time, realizing how much thought and effort he’s put into this and offering you not only a steady gig, but the opportunity to work near home for the first time ever, this time allowing for the expansion your family together.
“Jared, there’s one thing you haven’t considered...I’m almost forty-four.”
“I consulted your ob/gyn..”
“What!”
“I asked her advice about us trying for another baby,” your husband had been methodical, you had to give him that, “she said since the antral follicle count and AMH tests you took were on the higher end of your age group the chances of us conceiving are still good.”
He stretched across the bed and picked up your phone tapping the screen a few times then showed what he pulled up, “I’ve been following your period tracker and you’re ovulating right now.”
You peer at the display showing you were ovulating alright, right at the midpoint of the cycle, your most fertile day.
“I..if we do this what’s gonna stop us going sideways again? It took us years to get here and fuck, do you know what your mum’s reactions gonna be?”
Jared cups you cheek, “hey, I know, it scares the hell out of me too but we’ve both grown from it. We’re in a good place and I’ll do whatever I have to to keep you happy and stress free,” he bends down looking directly into your eyes, “that includes dealing with mom.”
You smirk, “giving you fair warning Padalecki, I’m gonna hold you to that and since you’re gonna be my new boss I’m renegotiating my contract so be pre..hmph.”
You don’t finish because your husband suddenly lunged forward pinning you under him on the mattress, his dimples on full display, “whatever you want, whenever,” he starts kissing down your neck, “you want cookie dough ice cream, dill pickles and tuna at 3am I’ll get them or..”
“That is so disgusting! I never craved stuff like that dork,” you hum as he starts mouthing over the swell of your breasts, “I’m gonna want Micklethwait’s bbq, 24 hour Diner’s mac & cheese and,” Jared bits down on your clothed nipple making you gasp out, “Torchy’s trailer park tacos!”
Jared’s response wasn’t what you expected. Instead he sits back on your thighs running his large hands over your lower abdomen licking his lips, “I can’t wait till I get you all big and round, you’ll be even more beautiful.”
You playfully slap his forearm and he jerks in surprise.
“I recognize that line..you read that a/b/o fic I sent you, don’t deny it mister.”
Jared sheepishly grins, “yeah I did and you were right, it was really good. I look over a few others and they gave me an idea.”
He bounced off the bed going into the bath rummaging around the cupboard coming back out with an object you recognize.
“Umm, what are you doing with my Diva cup?” You sit up confused as he hands the mensuration device to you.
“So in the creators notes was this link to an article that inspired them and I clicked on it, seems it’s a new trend; if you use one of these,” he points to the cup, “after sex the success rate of fertilization goes up.”
Shaking the cup at him you asked, “am I gonna have to monitor your online activity like the boys?” Jared wrinkles his forehead and you start laughing, “you’ve so got a breeding kink.”
Jared gets back on the bed crawling back over you till your lying supine under him again, “it's been too long since I’ve breed you Omega, I need to rectify that.”
Running your hands up his muscular arms you breathily reply, “yes Alpha, I want that..want you to breed me, fill me with your cum..want you to plug me so I don’t lose a drop.”
Jared gazes at you with a predatory expression, “I’m gonna make you round with my pups so everyone knows your mine.”

It is a dialogue Akim Aliu has been seeking to advance ever since the Blackhawks’ second-round pick revealed on Twitter that his coach in the minors, Bill Peters, had “dropped the N-bomb” on him during the ’09–10 season “because he didn’t like my choice of music”.
Aliu hoped his revelations would spark a long overdue reckoning for the white-as-ice hockey world and its shut-up-and-stick-handle culture.
As another season begins, Aliu believes the league is no closer to truly reckoning with its racial issues. And in the 14 months since his tweets, he’s grown more fed up than ever with the game that he continues to love, even if he hasn’t always felt that it loves him back. “It’s not hard to figure out our sport is suffering,” Aliu says. “Whatever the NHL is doing is clearly not working. It’s just posturing, window-washing, nonmeaningful half measures. That’s all it is.”
*
On Dec 5, 2019, at 3:38 p.m., Aliu sent the first message in a text thread that he titled, Hockey Diversity Committee. Initially composed of about 10 NHL players of color, within two days the chat swelled to 20-plus.
There was plenty to discuss. In the league’s 103-year existence, no team has employed a Black general manager. ...On-ice representation isn’t much more diverse. In addition to the 18 Black players who appeared in more than five games in 2019–20, the league counted just a handful more identifying as Asian (eight), Indigenous (six), Hispanic/Latino (four) or Arab/Middle Eastern (four).
“There’s that sense of loneliness we’ve all felt,” says Wild defenseman Matt Dumba, who is Filipino Canadian. “Who do you tell when you’re going through these things, besides your family? None of your teammates are going through it. And what am I going to say to a GM, an older white gentleman, who hasn’t seen the game the way I have?”
The forum that Aliu wanted, though, never materialized. Some players were spooked that he included his lawyers on calls and wondered whether he was trying to rally support for himself.
“I think guys were concerned with Akim wanting to sue,” says Trevor Daley, a defenseman who recently retired after 16 years in the NHL.
Other players voiced concerns about the career risk of speaking out... A few players dropped off the thread without explanation. “It was completely dead,” said Aliu.
*
The Hockey Diversity Alliance officially launched June 8, with... a message for the NHL: “We are hopeful that we will work productively with the league to accomplish these important changes.”
In response, the NHL invited the HDA to spell out its objectives in a virtual meeting in late June with Bettman and Kim Davis, who had been hired from a corporate advisory firm in 2017 to focus on diversity and inclusion. The players saw an opportunity to tell the commissioner about their encounters with racism in the sport.
Joel Ward spoke about being bombarded with racist tweets from Bruins fans after his Game 7 overtime goal for Washington eliminated Boston from the 2012 playoffs. Wayne Simmonds discussed having a banana thrown at him by a fan during a 2011 exhibition. Daley recounted how his then Ontario Hockey League coach John Vanbiesbrouck called him the n-word in 2003. (Vanbiesbrouck resigned shortly thereafter, acknowledging the slur. He is now an executive for USA Hockey.) Evander Kane described a fan yelling at him to go play basketball as he sat in the penalty box in Colorado during the 2019 playoffs. (Kane says he reported the incident to an on-ice official, but “there was zero follow-up” from the league. In the past, the NHL has said that the teams were aware, but the issue never reached the league office.)
As members began blasting Bettman for not doing more to prevent these incidents, the commissioner seemed to grow defensive. Citing various NHL diversity initiatives during his 27-year tenure, he then asked the players what they had done and where they had been in the fight against racism. He quickly backtracked, but the damage was done.
“I think he knew he had put his foot in his mouth,” Kane says. “Everyone on that call has done a lot of things on their own to grow the game within our own communities. A comment like that really rubbed guys the wrong way.” (Through a spokesperson, Bettman declined comment.)
On July 14, two weeks before the season restarted, the HDA presented Davis, Bettman and other league officials with a PowerPoint deck titled, Our Ask of the NHL. Much of the request focused on an eight-point “HDA pledge” that the coalition wanted the league to sign; items included specific hiring targets for Black personnel in league and team front offices (including 5% Black hockey-related personnel by the end of 2020–21) and funding of $100 million over the next decade (or just above $300,000 per team, per year) to back grassroots initiatives and other programming. The HDA also asked for various antiracism displays during the upcoming playoffs, such as changing the blue lines to black and painting the HDA logo on the ice. Kane recalls Davis and Bettman commending the presentation’s thoroughness. “I was hopeful,” Kane says.
But disappointment soon followed: The NHL built its postseason messaging campaign around a catch-all hashtag, #WeSkateFor, lumping the Black Lives Matter movement with the pandemic and other unrelated causes. “It’s like showing up to the breast cancer fundraiser and protesting that there’s other diseases, too,” Dumba says.

Day 25 – Dougie Hamilton
Trope: Curled up by the fire
Word Count: 809 words
A/N: MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you all have a wonderful day 💙 If there’s anyone I would love to spend my day curled up by the fire with, it’s Dougie, and I know @thebookofmags agrees 😘
*
The holiday season had its high points and its low points, that much you couldn’t deny. Maybe it was because you were so distant from your family – both physically and emotionally – and had been that way for years. Maybe it was because the holiday season could bring out the worst in people, whether it was in holiday sales, public arguments, or entitlement. Maybe it was because, until the past few years, you’d always spent the holidays either working or alone.
But this year, and the one before that, things had started to change. And you knew it was all down to your boyfriend Dougie. Ever since that first Christmas the two of you had spent together, 8 months into your relationship, he had shown you a side of the holiday season that you’d never seen before. He’d shown you that Christmas, and the days in and around it, could be a joyful time of year, from simple pleasures like twinkling lights, hot chocolate, walks in the snow, and even Christmas gatherings.
Like today for example. Today was Christmas Day and rather than spending it just the two of you like you had last year in Raleigh – which you know he only did to make sure you weren’t overwhelmed – Dougie had taken you to a big group gathering of the Devils who didn’t have kids. There had been laughter and music and drinks flowing and more food than you had thought possible, and while it had been a lot, you’d also had a smile on your face all day.
And it was all down to Dougie.
It had been a long day so far – a full day with Dougie’s friends and their partners - but now the two of you were curled up on the sofa in your apartment, the fire roaring, a glass of wine each in hand, a nameless hallmark holiday movie playing in the background. You knew you weren’t paying attention to the screen, and if Dougie’s fingers playing with your hair was any indication, he wasn’t either.
You just couldn’t shut your thoughts off, your brain swirling with the emotions of the day, the bittersweetness of the distance from your family, the joy of seeing today’s group of friends sharing Christmas celebrations, the comfort of Dougie’s arms around you…it was almost too much. Not bad, but not what you were expecting. At the very least, you knew that Dougie was your rock, your place of warmth, your feeling of home – and it didn’t matter where in the country the two of you went, being by his side was where you wanted to be.
“I can hear you thinking from here,”
You laughed softly, looking up at your boyfriend as you broke out of your thoughts.
“Sorry for disturbing your peace,” you teased.
“What’s going on in that head?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
You bit your bottom lip, trying to summarise everything into only a few words. Here goes nothing.
“I usually hate the holiday season, but with you it finally feels…good,”
Was that too much?
No, the look on Dougie’s face said it wasn’t.
“Yeah?” Dougie said, smiling fondly.
“Yeah, you know I feel about you,” you shrugged.
Because it really was that simple. This man, this incredible, warm, sweetheart of a man, had your entire heart – and the fact that he’d given you back the joy of a time you thought you’d lost long ago, just showed how amazing he really was.
“And you know how I feel about you,” Dougie said simply.
“Doesn’t hurt to hear it again,” you said, smiling innocently.
Dougie laughed, the genuine happiness in his voice making your heart bet that little bit faster.
“I love you. So much. Okay? I love you,” he said firmly.
The conviction in his voice made your heart ache in the best way. “I love you too,”
He ducked his head down to kiss you slowly, his tongue brushing softly against yours in a way that made your breath hitch in your throat, and it was all you could do melt into his embrace as you lost yourself in his kiss. No man had ever made you feel this way – so overwhelmed and yet so secure in yourself – and you knew no man ever would again. Here was someone who had changed your world for better or for worse, and you couldn’t be more thankful.
Maybe that was the spirit of Christmas after all.
Eventually Dougie broke the kiss, both of you breathing a little heavily, Dougie looking just as affected as you felt. His thumb brushed over your bottom lip, and if his lips were anything to go by, you knew yours were red and kiss-swollen too.
“Merry Christmas, sweetheart,” he murmured.
“Merry Christmas, Dougie,” you murmured in response.
If every year could be this good, then you would welcome it gladly.

The final road before the bend that led to Gojo Manor stretched before Nanami, signaled by the consistent shield of the ancient cryptomeria trees that lined the road side. The forest was a momentary relief from the glare of the sun reflecting on the windshield of his silver Lexus. Such was the inconvenience of driving in the middle of a bright day when the sun was at its pedestal, making no room for shadows, no reprieve from the heat. He detested it.
A sigh escaped his lips. It’s supposed to be the beginning of autumn, he was thinking for the umpteenth time that day. He would really appreciate it if the Siberian winds would herald the actual beginning of the season. Yes, he thought. That would be nice.
The weather was, nevertheless, the least of his worries, and as he finally made the turn to the incongruously long gravel driveway of the estate, the real cause of his anxiety reared its head to the surface, presaged by the denser shadows of trees and the high gables of the colossal structure that housed the seat of the Gojo clan. It was supposed to be unfounded, his apprehension, or so he tried to convince himself since deciding to make an appearance earlier than expected. He couldn’t keep it at bay anymore when the emotion was mixed with hopeful anticipation. An odd combination, indeed.
He had no choice but to come, or rather, he wanted to come. It was for an important occasion anyway, Gojo Satoru and Utahime Iori’s wedding week specifically. If he was being honest, he wouldn’t miss it for the world. If it was significant to two of the most important people in his life then the same applies where his views on the matter was concerned. After all, he greatly appreciated it that Gojo chose him as his best man, well one of them anyway. The man could never make up his mind if he tried so, breaking the traditional order of things, he has two “best men” – him and Geto Suguru.
Much to the groom-to-be’s disappointment, Nanami initially planned to show up a day before the ceremony itself. It was an added displeasure to the fact that Geto wasn’t going to show up until later that week as he was overseas for work. Gojo still probably was disappointed since Nanami did not exactly say anything about showing up earlier. But when he saw an opening in his jampacked schedule which was rare, he took the opportunity to take time off work. As annoying as Gojo was, he did not deserve to have two absent best men on his wedding week. Besides, a week away from the firm wouldn’t hurt, and he thought it was a good way to unwind before his big case.
If he would be able to unwind anyway.
The man had been sure of how he would manage through the occasion if he only spent a maximum of two days surrounded by crowds which were sure to be invited to the happy celebration. After all, nobody ever expected the young master of the Gojo Clan to ever be serious enough about anyone romantically, much less get married. Now that he had to stay for longer, giving chances to more occurrences of a variety of events, he wasn’t so certain. Anything could happen at Gojo Manor. Anything.
His optimism relied on that fact. Troublesome things usually happened with Gojo and Geto together, throw in the other members of the family and the other clans in the area, but Nanami was betting everything on this week.
A pair of cool, aqua eyes met his dark orbs the moment he stepped into the semi-outdoor ballroom of the opulent house. It was always like instinct, the way Nanami’s senses seem to heighten and hyper focus on one person, all else tuned out and seemingly nonexistent. Like always, without a hitch, he found you.
Alas. If he was questioning the reason for his hopefulness, that wasn’t the case anymore.
There you were, stood on the elevated corner by the refreshments table. You appeared like a celestial being walking among mortals, the halo of silvery white hair shimmering under the sunlight filtering through the room making you seem as if you did not exactly exist in the same realm as everyone else.
You were initially not paying attention to anyone despite your cousin, Miwa, chatting away beside you. But then, you leaned towards the latter when she whispered something, being equally conspiratorial by raising your champagne flute to your mouth. By the looks of it, prior to that, you have long tuned them out, Miwa and her friends, what with your poor attempt at pretending to pay attention. Nanami knew you have mastered the art of doing so since you were a child. It wasn't on purpose, or so you say. You were simply oblivious most of the time or you just didn't care. And you tended to only see and hear what you wanted.
At the moment, he was the object of your attention. He was sure of it, unable to help but to be much too aware of it, nerves pulled to their limits like piano strings conditioned to make sounds at the slightest of touch of its ebony and ivory keys. The feeling he had made you real, existing. He wasn’t imagining at all.
At times, he still could not believe that he watched you grow up to the person you are at present. The first time he knew of your existence was when Gojo invited him and some of their other friends to that very house in middle school. You were just as remarkable as a child as you are as a grown woman, much too quick-witted and eloquent at six even as your nanny carried you astride her hip, looking very much like a female infant version of Gojo. The bright blue eyes you shared with the male shone with the same intelligence he possessed, probably more, even without doing or saying anything. It just emanated from the two of you even if Gojo behaved like an utter idiot at times.
You shifted your line of vision to Miwa who was inconspicuously flailing her hands as a silent and agitated command for the other girls to disperse when she saw Nanami approaching. In a split second, you were alone. Miwa has always been unreasonably fidgety around him but he never quite understood why.
"I seemed to have driven away your company," he said to you the moment he was within earshot, watching you exchange your empty glass for another that's full.
You finally faced him, your scintillating eyes glittering under the wide skylights above. They were fathomless as they were luminous, shining with mischief. It was a familiar sight. From a state of tedium, they seem to come alive at the idea of tormenting him.
"I don't mind."
Of course not. The corners of his mouth curled inconspicuously at that similarity he shared with you. "I seem to always offend that cousin of yours."
"Not really. Frighten is more like it." Your eyes stayed on him even as you drank from your glass.
"Frightened?" Nanami repeated with inflection. He knew Miwa was awkward around him, but it was news that she was afraid of him. He didn’t have anything against her since unlike you, she was actually a sweet girl.
"Well, you have always been purposefully abrasive, you have taken the language of sarcasm to a whole new level and you are a grouch," you told him without batting an eyelash when everyone else was intimidated by him. You were probably the only one who could treat him that way. Not even your brother who is his best friend could do that and mean it.
His planned glance turned into a sidelong stare when he saw how you were eyeing him the same way. The difference was that you had a knowing look about you, evident in the way your eyes shone with diablerie and the contumelious curl at the corners of your luscious lips.
"Is that your opinion of me?" he asked, his expressions remaining stoic. Inside, it was a different story. You are the last being on earth he wanted to view him the way others usually did. He always thought you acted around him differently – defied him, messed with his head (and heart if he was being honest), and annoyed him – because you saw him differently, too. He liked that idea, the feeling it gives him. It was already enough that you are forbidden territory because you are his best friend's little sister. He didn't want you to turn out to be just like everyone else.
You grinned but didn't satisfy his query with a response. It was just like you to keep him guessing that way. You loved your games and especially loved to play them with him. He liked to play along at times, but it gets difficult to keep up with your antics. Your thought process was something he still has to figure out despite years of knowing you.
Seeing that he wasn't getting anywhere by engaging you, he said, "Where's the groom-to-be?"
You pointed at the direction of the wood-framed glass doors leading to the indoor salon where your brother was speaking to one of the organizers for his wedding.
When Nanami followed your line of vision, he found the person in question. On a long table before Gojo were different arrangements of flowers, all in shades of pink, cream and white. Honestly, he saw no difference but Gojo was eyeing them as if choosing the right one will solve global warming.
"Being fussy about the flower arrangements more than his bride, obviously." Shaking his head, he shoved his hands into the pockets of his grey, pinstriped slacks before facing you again. "You think it's a good time to step in?"
At that, you smirked openly. "Wanna play a game, Nanamin?" you asked, appearing and sounding innocent as you addressed him with that nickname you knew he hated.
"Sure," he said without hesitation, knowing well the kind of person you are when you’re refused.
"No protestations this time, I see. You're learning."
He shot you a withering look, pushing his glasses up his nose. "That coming from a childish brat. I won't take offense." He immediately regretted saying that when he saw how your eyes glinted with something sinister. What it was, he didn't know, but he was sure about one thing: he just walked into another one of your traps willingly.
"Whoever gets a rise out of Satoru wins," you said, cocking your head to your brother's general direction.
That was easy, he thought. The fact that he showed up for the week-long preparations for the nuptials was enough to draw out a profound reaction from Gojo. Nanami was just that kind of best friend – absent. In his defense, he did make it to the important parts just in time, but this was something new to Gojo. For all he knew, he wasn't even expecting him to arrive until the wedding.
"Fine." He nodded at you, the action very minute. He was never big on actions. "We'll talk about the compensation later."
You returned the gesture with saccharine mordacity to it. "Alright." However, instead of moving towards the goal, you walked towards the other direction, signaling for him to go first.
It was an easy victory. The moment he walked into the salon, Gojo’s attention was immediately pulled away from the flower arrangements, his eyes going wide as saucers as he took in the fact that his best man arrived way ahead of time.
"Who are you and what have you done to Nanami Kento?" he asked aloud, making some of the guests for the day's luncheon turn towards them. He was evidently elated, his wife-to-be coming to join in, hugging Nanami while he clapped the man on the shoulder.
"I wouldn't miss this happy occasion for the world," Nanami told the couple, trying his best to convey his thoughts without sounding patronizing. That would be overdoing things even if it meant he would win against you. He wasn’t big on emotions and sentiments either.
All the while, his eyes furtively strayed to you, his competitor, watching you from way across the ballroom, sipping leisurely at your champagne as if you cannot be bothered. However, if Nanami thought he has seen the worst that you can do, he couldn't have been more mistaken in his life.
In the next moment, you entered the salon, appearing self-satisfied as you sauntered towards them, looking like a queen surveying your domain. "Well, well. If it isn't the big shot lawyer himself, coming to grace us with his presence!"
He clucked his tongue, reading through your ploy. You weren’t exactly one for theatrics most of the time, typically straightforward and brutally frank, but your games were as intricate as they were vexing. Nanami turned to face you just enough to conceal his expression from Gojo and Utahime, arching a brow at you in both challenge and question.
In a flash of black and white, you have taken your place in front of him barely a foot away. Your intention to further close the distance between the both of you only became evident when both your hands shot forward, taking possession of both sides of his face as you willed him to bend to your height, tiptoeing to make up for the remaining space. In a brief but seemingly drawn-out sequence of events, you staked your claim on his slightly parted mouth in a scorching lip lock.
Nanami was momentarily distracted by the faint taste of champagne, that detail registering in his brain before the sensation of your pliant lips pressed against his. The realization dawned too late making blood rush up to his head and for his ears to ring as he froze and burned simultaneously. His arms had unconsciously found their way around your slender waist, the feel of your warmth under your taffeta dress searing his palms. It was more for the purpose of steadying himself than you on your precariously high heels. The mere touch of your hand made him incoherent, but the feeling of your lips on his drove him to irrationality. The slim likeliness of the act happening between him and you made it feel as if he was going to pass out or wake up from a long, vivid dream.
He was there. He exists. You were there, real as can be. And you were kissing him.
Gasps erupted from all around, and before he knew it, you have pulled away, releasing your grip on him. As if he couldn’t dig his grave any deeper and punctuate his loss any further, Nanami leaned towards you, chasing your lips, attempting to continue your little interlude, uncaring of where you were or who was watching. After having a tiny taste of it, the absence of your touch affronted him like no other. If having you that close was what it meant to lose, then he will gladly have it.
Your laughter snapped him out of his trance. When his vision focused, he found you leaning away, your hand pressed against his chest to keep him at bay.
“Eager, aren’t we?” you said loud enough for him to hear, and for everyone’s benefit, you droned on, saying, “Been dying to do that since I saw you come in.”
Dazed, he just stared at you before him, the fact that he did not just lose to you within the premise of the game registering in his mind like a flash of lightning. Blood rushed to his head, heat permeating from the base of his neck to his scalp when his eyes strayed to Gojo who looked scandalized.
“You…what…” the other male endeavored to speak, but nothing coherent came out of his mouth, his blue eyes rapidly shifting between you and Nanami while his fiancée giggled beside him.
Indifferent to everything else and your sights only set on the object of your trickery, you tittered, savoring the hilarity of the situation. At least, to you, it was funny. “See you around, Nanamin,” you drawled and left with that confident gait, shaking your head in levity.
He wanted to join in on your conviviality, but the idea dissipated faster than water under intense heat when he saw his best friend eyeing him like he was about to castrate him. Nanami straightened up, rearranging his expression to that of quiet shock, laying it on thick by blinking cluelessly as if it was typical of him but Gojo was having none of it.
Ah, the joys of losing to you, he could just think despite his impending doom. Or maybe he was doomed to begin with. He couldn’t care less with the pleasant tingling of his lips and the memory of yours, the taste lingering on his tongue.
“You and me, in the game room. You’ve a lot of explaining to do.”
**
If Nanami would be asked how many times he lost to you, he wouldn’t have an answer. At least not for what is healthy for his pride and because he lost count. His only consolation was that he wasn’t the only one who had ever been under your thumb over the years you have had the upper hand. You’ve always had the advantage, and one way or the other, regardless of the odds of the games you played, be it tomfoolery or serious bets, you invariably have a way of turning them into your favor.
He could well say his chances of winning cases in court is higher compared to the fact that you always bested him in life. It frustrated him to no end.
“Wanna play a game?” Those were always the words which heralded a series of infuriating inconveniences that he, along with some other individuals, had to be subjected to ever since you acquired your penchant for mischief and seeming thirst to challenge if not victimize people.
Those words, paired with a ridiculous nickname of your choosing for each of your conquests gave one no choice but to engage. The way you say it was enough to rile even someone who just happened to be listening, as if you were surreptitiously patronizing the person of your choosing. The unreadable expression on your face when you initiate your games also makes one’s hackles rise. While Gojo had the same tendency to be condescending when he wanted to be, you were exponentially more menacing compared to him.
In your defense, you never did it to everyone. It was as if you have a rationale behind the selection of people you felt like messing with. Your criteria was not something that is known to anybody else. At first, it was just Gojo. Then Geto and Shoko Ieiri, another close friend of your brother, got a taste of it until finally, it was his turn. Anyone none the wiser would think your ‘affections’ were solely focused on Gojo’s friends, but apparently, it wasn’t the case.
There were three kinds of people where your games were concerned: people you didn’t give a damn about, those you liked to play with and those you engaged with but eventually stopped being a pain to.
Most people around you were the first type since you mostly didn’t give two fucks about them. For some reason, it had become a sort of status quo in the Gojo household to be included in your sphere but few were lucky enough to hold your attention long enough.
The third kind were people who seemed to have reached an understanding with you. Geto, Utahime and Shoko used to be casualties in your ploys, but after a game or two, they’ve eventually ‘graduated,’ and you treated them like equals. Apart from that, there seems to be an exceptional case when you did not have to inflict yourself on the person just like in the case of your closest friend, Itadori Yuuji. That kid was special somehow, and Nanami thought perhaps he was, too, until you got started with him.
As for him and Gojo, they were still people you liked to torment. His theory was that you were looking for something from the people you play with. If you find it, you stop. It wasn’t a theory anymore that it was a sort of defense mechanism if he deduced right, judging from the situations which led to the change in your behavior.
It all started when you came home from boarding school overseas after finishing your freshman year in high school. Gojo had invited them over as per usual for the summer events being held at their estate but suddenly started talking about his concerns over you.
“She’s distant,” he said with a sigh when asked about it. Apparently, your parents were upset over you decision not to attend the school of their choice anymore and threatened to drop out and run away if they insisted further. “And there seems to be something wrong with her. She seems different somehow. Very snappy and always in a foul mood. She rarely leaves her room, and when we try to help, she gets angrier.”
“She’s in that phase, huh?” Shoko mused. “Want me to talk to her?”
Gojo insisted to do it, being all dramatic and saying he had been a lousy brother. But that’s when you started being the way you were. You weren’t an angry teen anymore, just someone who indulged yourself by toying with others without regard to whose expense and to what extent. Most of them were harmless, but you very nearly endangered two of your friends, too.
Nanami dug his own grave when he purposefully tried to have a go at you, pointing out your mistakes in an attempt to intervene at that time. You used to be rather passive where he was concerned, polite even, but then everything changed that night.
He was somehow glad that you decided to approach him when you needed help when you usually gravitated towards Geto, surprised to see you at his doorstep past midnight and looking ashen.
First, you dared this new girl, Kugisaki Nobara, to sneak into the abandoned factory at night, and the girl ended up hurting yourself. You looked so regretful and distraught while explaining what happened on the ride to the factory, and for the first time, he realized that you only ever challenged people you held a certain degree of fondness for. Everything ended well without anybody else knowing of your mishaps but him, and in a twist of fate, she even became your first real friend.
And then, you started yet another game with Fushiguro Megumi, effectively getting him kicked out his father’s clan. You weren’t exactly aware about the deeper reason as to why his family wanted him to be close to you, only that you found displeasure in it because he was a groom candidate. It was common among old clans like yours, and when you dared him to tell your parents he had no intention of marrying you, your brother had to intervene and take the boy in, ending up registered under Gojo Clan instead. While his family was trash in all sense of the word, you were still at fault since you ruined his only chance at being accepted by the clan head. Still, he, too, became your friend, and more than that, an adopted brother.
“Is this some attention-seeking behavior you’ve learned somewhere?” Nanami asked you that time.
“I get attention without as much as lifting a finger being who I am.” You snorted. “I can’t expect everything to be positive though.”
He was taken aback by your statement then. Still, he tested his theory. You were different after all. While some people admired you for your genius and your otherworldly looks, there will always be those who hated you for it. It was like a repeat of Gojo, except that he had them, his friends. Whom did you have?
“Are you being bullied at school?”
At that, your pupils constricted, your bright eyes turning icy as you regarded him. You were quiet for a moment as you stared, not exactly enraged but your brows furrowed together. Nanami could see the cogs in your brain moving through your eyes when you slowly grinned and said those four words: “Wanna play a game?”
He’s been losing to you ever since, not really knowing what you want and what set you off, hell-bent on making him miserable at every opportunity you could take.
It wasn’t all different at present.
The moment he heard the click of the doorknob and your scent – a mix of crisp autumn air, vanilla and a hint of something that reminded him of happiness – registered in his brain, he froze on his chair in the study where he was currently taking notes on his upcoming case. It was a trade-off for the length of time he would be gone from the law firm he worked at. His grip on his pen tightened that he thought he would break it to splinters when he saw you from his periphery, still looking like a goddess, fresh and gorgeous despite the day's affairs.
You were so painfully beautiful that concentrating on the file before him was proving to be difficult. Everything else didn't make sense to him whenever you were in the same room as he is. It didn't help that you kissed him in front of everyone just a few hours ago. He couldn't forget the feeling no matter how many times he convinced himself that it was just you playing your games; that it was nothing. He wished it was otherwise, not that it helped in his cause a bit.
"What on earth was that about?" Gojo demanded, pulling him aside to the game room like a child who did something naughty. In fairness to him, he was still fond enough of Nanami to offer him a drink but, indeed, he thought, what on earth was that about?
He shrugged. "Have you met your sister? Surely, you know just what crazy antics she has up her sleeves. She gets her annoying side from you anyway."
The answer seemed to have placated the male for the time being but if you were going to continue with your mischief, Nanami has no way of telling where things can go. And judging by your confident gait and the complacent grin swathed on your countenance, you were up to no good again.
He carded his fingers through his blond locks, leaning back on the chair as he furtively watched you.
"Do you need anything?" he asked calmly despite himself.
"Hmm. I won," you murmured, rounding the heavy oak desk before vaulting yourself up on it to sit just beside his papers, your eyes zeroing in on the files.
He shot you an accusing glare. "What was that about?"
You arched a brow at him, wrenching your gaze from the documents with a frown, the way your eyes widened in mock innocence making him want to box your ears. "What was what about, Nanamin?” The preposterous nickname rolled off your tongue tauntingly. “I thought you hated questions that can be openly interpreted."
"Why did you kiss me?" he snapped.
"Well..." You openly mocked him with a smile. "Could there be any other reason apart from our bet?"
"Of all the things you could think of, you went for something that would give your brother a heart attack not to mention that it put me in hot waters."
“Isn’t that the objective of our little bet?”
He sighed. "This is the last time I'm indulging you."
"Eh? You said that the last time we saw each other, too." You feigned exasperation. "Doesn't change the fact that you lost again though."
"What do you want?" He finally sat up straight, stacking the documents on the table. "Why are you sitting there anyway?"
"You're right." You jumped off the desk and much to his confusion, instead of taking one of the seats at the other side of the table, you swatted his arm from the papers and sat on his lap like he was an easy chair.
"What –"
You turned to him then, your faces just inches from one another. "Is this better?" you asked as if you saw nothing wrong with your iffy position.
Nanami didn't know what to do with, his arms remaining still on his sides while he just stared at you as if you grew two heads. "Is this another one of your games?"
You leaned closer to him, your bright eyes drowning him. "You tell me." You laughed then. "I wasn't the one who couldn't get enough of this afternoon's kiss."
He shrugged before he could run away with his thoughts. You were right. He did want to kiss you more, but it wasn't as if he could.
Just then, you reached over and removed the glasses that were always perched over his nose then wore it yourself. "What are you doing?"
"You look better without them," you commented.
"I need them for reading." He rolled his eyes at you. "Get off, Y/N."
"Hmm? Is that really what you want?" you taunted, your hand having found purchase at the back of his head, fingers toying with his soft hair.
He placed a hand on your thigh, slowly climbing up to your hip, reveling in the feel of your warmth under his touch. He looked at you seriously then and leaned away, surprised when you frowned momentarily. It was so fleeting, he didn’t know whether he was imagining it when he saw disappointment on your face. That was a first.
"Y/N, Just tell me what you want. You won the bet after all."
Shrugging, you stood up as if you weren’t just perched on his lap. "Go figure," you quipped, sounding pissed off. "Think of something I would actually want. It's up to you."
“Another game?”
“Think of it as you want.”
"What?"
You slammed the door close in your wake before he could get an answer, once again leaving him there puzzled at your reaction and exasperated with himself.
-end of Part 1-
First of all, Happy Cake Day to the love of my life, Nanamin!
I made him a lawyer here cause that's freakin' hot!!!
*I used “you” here, but since my character is Gojo’s little sister who is established to be his female clone for reasons essential to the plot, she possesses the same blue eyes and white hair. I did not exactly want to create an OC (although technically, I did by describing Y/N), but I opted for the best of both worlds in this fic, leaning more towards the literary aspect of it as opposed to it just being reader/you-oriented. I hope this isn’t iffy to anyone, and yeah, i’m not being exclusive or whatever.
Everyone's aged up here as well, including the younger characters which will be included in the story.
Thank you so much for reading. Likes, comments and reblogs are deeply appreciated! Hope you enjoyed it.
