Bowser doesn't really have any allies in my AU. King Boo and his boos are a really small community of creatures in comparison to Bowsers kingdom. And they mostly just stay in their forest and mind their own business. And yes sometimes troops go into that forest and King Boo takes them. But Bowser doesn't care about a few measly troops disappearing. It would only be a problem if huge clusters of troops went missing.

Point is though, King Boo and Bowser have no alliance. They just kind'a leave each other alone.

As for King Bomb Omb and King Thwomp? I pictured them to be mega troops created by Kamek. Thwomps are supposed to be these enormous bricks from an old temple that were brought to life. Perhaps King Thwomp is a huge wall of bricks that didn't separate when they were brought to life? King Bomb Omb could be the same. A giant experimental bomb omb that was brought to life.

In the end, King Thwomp and King Bomb Omb were created to serve Bowser. He treats and uses them as tools. Nothing more really..

easiest question ever. spocj ❤️❤️❤️ Live laugh love spock. I also really like Kirk but more in like a microwave way. that doesn’t make sense. anyway.

I also love Data, Troi, Wesley, Neelix, T’Lyn, Boimler, and Mariner. I love autism.

What are some songs/music that you associate with Star Trek?

Other than the half of Subspace Rhapsody that’s on my playlist? good question. I love Leonard Nimoys music. I have so many of his songs saved and he’s so talented.

A lot of the TOS cast has music actually. Both Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) and William Shatner (Kirk) have cover songs of varying quality. please listen to Shatners Bohemian Rhapsody, it is a necessity.

I mostly watch TOS (and SNW and LD when they come out)(i’ve watched every star trek thing but those are the ones i think about most) so I really associate slower songs with Star Trek. vaguely sad or whistful slow songs especially. I would link my Spock playlist but I barely add to it and it only has 3 songs I think.

What is your favorite piece of Star Trek fanart?

Oh god 😭 I genuinely don’t know. When I was first re-entering the Star Trek fandom, it was mostly for k/s. (just spent 20 minutes trying to find two very specific drawings but i can’t find them). I don’t think i have a FAVORITE though. If i had to pick I’d say any Star Trek art myself or my mutuals make are the ones I love seeing most ❤️

What is your favorite Star Trek fanfiction?

Purposely not linking any of my own works (yes, some of them ARE my favorite; i made them for me lol). But i pretty much ONLY read k/s. I like other ships but k/s is just my comfort 🤷‍♂️ here’s some that I’m reading or have bookmarked!:

Controlled Environment by Obsessed_Wraith— I know they have tumblr but I don’t remember/couldn’t find their handle, please tag them if you know it. This fic is currently unfinished, Chapter 6 was uploaded just today, but it is so amazing! please read it.

We Will Meet Again by Darksknight— I love long fics, and this was amazing. It’s very rare that I fully enjoy an AOS fic, but I think this is just a right balance between AOS and TOS. The Tarsus IV chapter(s?) were beautiful and are probably my favorite part, they were so amazing

Undone by my mutual @greengoddesssmoothie — also an incomplete fic, but the emotional turmoil in the beginning chapters were so amazing! the way Spock is characterized in this fic is just so so so fascinating.

If anyone has fic recs, i am in desperate need for more reading material lol. and also a special shoutout to my favorite tropes: Fake dating/marriage, slow burn, soulmates, and angst ❤️

(also, i personally do not read smut so none of the three above have smut i don’t think)

why do u think dekinobi is more popular than other non-canon ships like, let's say, jaisune?

For longer read, well there are many reasons that i can think of, but ofc its still just my opinion.

Nobita is the mc. He's mostly the main guy for story telling. So Its easier to find non-canon ships with nobita in it. Hell, i think the most popular non canon ship in doraemon rn would be doranobi. We saw nobita and knew nobita better compared to other characters, its bound to happen that he got shipped with many else (theres even plenty works where he got shipped with other boys in the Doraemon movie), like with most shounen, especially when they started sopping wet and pathetic (yuuji x all, denji x all, naruto x all, etc etc)

Personally, i shipped them because there area so little moments abt them. Bcs of the scarcity, when they actually showed up on screen together, i always cherish that moment and it fuels me. Something abt the feeling of yearning and longing keeps me going

The dynamic of smart x not smart is p common in fandoms. I mean, thats what happened in the main (shizunobi) but this time make it male and shizuka just happened to have a male carbon copy.

Both are 'conveniently attractive' and by that I mean easier to draw. Just look at the many shizunobi fanarts. Or even lucanobi. It's because they're easy to draw and didn't have any unique physical traits. It's easier to translate to other style, maybe even a more anime-ish style. With others, for example suneo with his pointy mouth, i personally would love to draw him looking as close as possible to the original source. But, With that limitation in minds it's hard to find ways to draw him in many angles/ scenarios without it looking too different from how i envisioned it. If you can, good for you, and this is just my skill issue (even now i still have a hard time drawing doraemon proportionately). But im not invested enough to try or care.

And with that too, idk abt you anon, but have you ever thought of keep making the shippy content you want? Like, original works. Write or draw for that ship. The dknb tags in tumblr only got a bit of traction bcs i personally kept posting. I remembered in 2022 when it's still very quiet in the tags (even now its actually still quiet). From that, others who shared the same sentiment would flock or maybe even felt encouraged to make their own shippy content.

You think those dknb fanarts or fics pop up from nowhere? No... there's ppl that made those into existence bcs

Like, i barely even wrote a decent fic but i always try for them bcs i do love them and now we have quite a few fics to fill thee tags in ao3... And like, I'm not paid to do this. I just genuinely like dknb, and when i discovered the english/ international side of dknb is pretty barren, i started filling it with either doodles or fics.

It's really not that hard. If you want your ship/ ideas to be more popular, work on it. Draw something. Or write something. If you feel it sucks, yeah well that's what i felt when i saw my older doodles or fics loll. And that's fine, bcs it will sucks. But you'll learn from it too and got better.

Sorry it got so long, but i do want others to thrive in their own doraemon shippy fandoms too. Just give it a try, really. That's the key

Gonna be honest, aside from fandom events/celebrations I'm prob not gonna be very active here again, on account of busy-in-general but also, my side-accounts are still always more art-oriented.... I like to post my own arts hehe x3 so I guess I'm writing abt this as a gentle reminder to myself that it's alright to not be active & how much I really enjoy posting my own work when possible.

some more thoughts on this under cut! the blog will stay mostly usagi chronicles related with reblogs related to other usagi stuff and tmnt but I will try to keep it to my own art as I originally intended.

right now I've also been obsessing again over the Tintin fancomics and animations by @/professorcalculusstanaccount (not gonna tag them bc this is not directly related) and their work (+ just ruminating on my own old stuff) has been inspiring me enough that I'm thinking of returning to my og comics again. just in a... very subtle way. i don't like drawing attention to myself as much(as much as I should at least) and I wanna take a lot of babysteps to get back to building those up again.

for my SRTUC/TMNT2003&ROTTMNT crossover fic, I am thinking now that I want to take a similar approach in that it is mostly images, some larger text. bc I realized I do not actually enjoy writing long spans of prose. like. I enjoy making comics bc I am more used to those, but also, I am imagining things much more visually so it is hard for me to put some of these into text form at all times. I think that's why I probably haven't written this fic properly or finished any of my old fic. So a pretty normal "I explain my fic/AU idea" post, but I would like to try it in a concentrated way. I dunno how I would format this crossover on AO3 for example, but here in tumblr I could put them neatly under a cut and write away. It would be cool if I had the energy for animations/comics too bc those, while taking more time than writing, are far more enjoyable on the whole to make (but again, I am much more used to them)

I also want to explore more of a genfic (general "genre" fanfic) look at crossovers. As much as I like the Yuinardo/Leochi (Yuichi x Leo) ship, I also really enjoy exploring more unusual dynamics and situations in fanfic haha x3

my health's been slowly declining this week again and i haven't noticed next to work so I'll try to keep phone and personal internet time to a minimum now. sjdnddj i also just haven't had the energy for new art in general, so I'm basically going into spring hibernation until the next big spike in free time.

but hey! things I look forward to posting about more are some of the short comic thumbs I've been doing! I've fanart mostly for usagi chronicles right now but I'm also probably gonna post other short sketches I've done on my regular fandom art/ sketchblog, @aghhtdraws . There's a Chi/Ki (Chizu x Kitsune) doodle post I wanted to do and also a few other Usagi sketches I wanted to post.

I also like to write analysis of shows I like often enough, but writing is usually very taxing for me if it gets too long so I try to avoid it unless I have a very strong idea. Wait... have I been writing essays this entire time??? x3

I'll still tag those as #analysis bc that makes sense for me as a short tag and I don't really keep to an essay format as much, but yeah, you can block that or #aghhtposts if u don't wanna see those xP

i tag things more for my own convenience, but that is also very useful for tag blocking! (so glad xKit still works 10 years after it broke or smth)

oh! and I also wanted to post some screenshots/links from insta. both Stan and some of the crew have been posting new posts about SRTUC which have been a delight to see. ahhh im so glad the show exists and the crew seem to have a lot of good memories about it.

I know Arkhamverse has trauma from being strangled, but I always want to kiss EVERY SINGLE RIDDLER on his neck! And that got me thinking... So I have to ask, how do the Riddlers feel about their necks? Like are any of them sensitive? Ticklish? Are any against their neck being touched? Do any love when their s/o goes for their neck?

I’m genuinely surprised at all I was able to accomplish after taking a break from fandom and then kinda coming back full speed in September. I can’t even begin to imagine what the rest of this year would’ve turned out had I decided not to throw my hat in the ring. If I decided to just go ahead and post my first story, I wouldn’t nearly be as happy as a creator and I’m so grateful every day for the friends that I have made and continue to make on this platform.

Do you have any tips for small artists?

i have no idea what level of technical skill u have so these are some pretty general tips but here u go! these are also mostly focused on fanart lol cuz that's what i like to make.

number 1 rule of art is that people like art that is interesting!!! it's gotta make them feel something or they will ignore it!! i used to draw so much art that was just like, a character standing there doing nothing. and i would try very hard to have nice lineart and pretty shading and all that good stuff but in the end a character standing there doing nothing is boring. if you have really good technical skills, then some people will still be like "wow pretty art!!" or "so photorealistic! how cool!" but generally speaking it's gonna take soooooo long to actually reach that level of technical skill if every drawing u make looks like this 🧍. if you wanna improve fast, you're much better off experimenting with all sorts of types of art.

so, what do people find interesting? lots of things!

ship art is an easy way to make an "interesting" drawing, b/c people like ships and b/c you've got a character interaction happening there. even if they're just leaning on each other or holding hands or something, there's personality in that. even when i was really shitty at art i always noticed that my ship art got more notes than art of just 1 character.

in general, character interactions always make things more interesting. u certainly don't have to only draw romantic ships--draw some characters who are friends hanging out and having fun, or draw characters who are family hugging each other, or something. or draw people fighting!!! if you're not yet used to drawing characters interacting, it can be a bit of a pain at first, but it opens up so many fun possibilities (and reference photos can always help you!! google images is honestly the best of all resources for that lmao although more specific stuff like adorkastock is great too).

even without character interactions, u can make drawings that try to evoke an emotion of some sort. dark and angsty? lonely? happy and cute? this is one of my favorite drawings ever and i think it's super, super visually interesting and tells a story without the need for more than one character or any sort of words/dialogue, just from the pose and the background and the whole vibe of it. it feels so peaceful and lovely. of course, it makes a difference that this artist clearly has a lot of technical skill, but if this same artist drew a picture of aang looking like 🧍 on a boring white background i would definitely not love this art nearly as much lol.

screenshot redraws are also pretty popular!! personally i would strongly advise that if ur gonna redraw a screenshot, you should be adding something interesting to your version. if you colorpick the exact same colors from the drawing and try to copy the style as closely as possible, it's a little boring, right? why would i want to see the exact same picture twice? one artist who does screenshot redraws really well is viorie (who i think has removed/deactivated a lot of her stuff, thus the repost, sorry):

like this is very clearly an artist that had something of her own to bring to the screenshot she was redrawing!! that's what makes it cool, appealing art, even though it's "just" a redraw.

and of course my absolute favorite thing to make drawings "interesting" is to make comics. comics are the best!! u get to draw a whole story!!! lots of types of comics that you can make, too. a lot of the comics that i've made lately are my own writing and tend to be more serious, but if you're looking for something easy, fun, and simple, try drawing incorrect quotes or make art/comics that are based off of other people's posts, fics, or ideas that you thought were really cool (w/ appropriate credit obviously).

on that note, drawing fanart for other people is especially effective for putting yourself out there because it's often hard to get your foot in the door on social media when you literally have 0 followers and no one is seeing your stuff. you draw something for a popular fic writer or a humor blog, they're happy because they've gotten fanart and they reblog your art, you're happy because now all their followers are seeing ur stuff. lol this sounds so transactional but it's really a lot more fun than it sounds. make art for other ppl! make some friends! join discord servers, join group chats, comment nice things on other peoples' work, & check out fandom events, like big bangs or ship weeks or whatever. it's good stuff.

also, use different social media. it might seem like what tends to be popular in one corner of the internet is gonna be pretty well-received everywhere else but that's not always the case lol. tumblr, for example, usually puts a lot of emphasis on consuming content "from a fandom" rather than consuming content "from an artist"--it's hard to build an individual brand, people just want More Insert Popular Fandom Content and don't really care who it comes from so long as it fits a certain type of art; in my case, atla is a way more popular show than lok, so my atla art gets significantly more attention than my lok art does, despite the fact that i don't make that much of it. on the other hand, on instagram, people really like my lok/red lotus art because that's sort of my "brand" and my atla art tends to get less attention. (this works out for me because i like lok way better and i also have way more followers on instagram than i do here.)

& ofc when you talk about becoming a "popular" artist... i mean, i'm not gonna be the person who tells u "oh you should ONLY be doing this for yourself!! if you're doing it for attention you're doing it all wrong!" because obviously i love attention and i love making art that people like. i would not draw nearly as much if i didn't have fun sharing it! but if you let yourself get too sucked into the idea of making "popular" art, you're gonna feel super drained and fucked up and you eventually will burn out hard (ahaha.............). there's a balance to strike between "i'm making this art because it's fun" and "i'm making this art because i know people will like it." on tumblr, my atla art is way more popular than my lok art, but i don't care abt atla nearly as much as i care abt lok, so i'm never gonna like, make an in-depth comic about the atla main cast the way i have for the red lotus, the lok main cast, and kyoshi. what a waste of time! even when you're looking for advice about how to become a "big" artist, ultimately, you've gotta make the art that's fun for you, and with luck you'll eventually find an audience that also enjoys that type of art.

But here's the thing, if the character somehow got to our world and found out that their life was created by someone for ppl to pass time and entertain themselves, what would be their reaction to the fandom (fics, ships, reader insert stuff, fanart and other fan made stuff), the creator (and them getting profit or being responsible for their suffering and creating them the way they are? Like flaws/ appearance/ personality n that shit), the gatcha, other characters that they knew, and just generally to the whole thing about them being a fictional character from a game in a different world

Diluc

“So, what you’re saying is I’m from a video game, and I am a very desired character. And because of this many people draw pictures of me.” He asks, standing with his hand on his chin as he tried to process this.

You nodded and you got your phone and looked up a simple

“Diluc fanart”

And showed him the results.

He was a little put off now knowing that there were so many people watching him at all times. Not only were they were watching him but they liked him enough to draw him.

“Well, they all are very talented, but why is this one titled ‘Daddy Diluc’ with my shirt off?” He asked, and you snatched your phone from a him as quick as possible and closed out of whatever file or photo album he scrolled to.

With a nervous laugh you turned back to him hiding your phone, not wanting to admit to what he had seen.

“How about we look at some fanfics instead.” You suggested, changing tabs on your phone. You showed him the Tumblr thread as he began to scroll.

“And these are-?” He asked as he looked back at you.

“Stories about you and other characters, or somethings you and the person reading. Those are called self inserts.” You explained, he nodded, slightly understanding until he had scrolled to an NSFW story.

“What does NSFW stand for?” He asked, you shot up from your chair and smacked the phone out of his hand as quickly as possible.

“Okay maybe that’s not a good idea either.” You laughed nervously again as Diluc stared at you curiously. As far as he was concerned NSFW was just a couple of meaningless letters thrown together, but your reaction makes him think it was obviously more than that.

“How about I explain it this way. Because you’re a very desired character, many people are attracted to you,” You began. He nodded, understanding.

“myself included,” you mumbled, he didn’t catch it so you cleared your throat and continued.

“Many of them make art of you and other characters together and more often than not it’s because of a ship.”

Right at that moment you completely lost him. He looked at you confused,

“What do boats have anything to do with this?” He asked, his eyebrows were furrowed together as he tried to think of a logical way that a mode of water transport would have anything to do with him and other characters.

“No no, this kind of ship is a pairing of you and another character, like a relationSHIP.”

Diluc nodded in response,

“So wait, people pair me with other characters? Like who?” He asked, you sighed knowing the question was going to come up sooner or later.

“Well-“ you began as you listed off every person he had been shipped with. As you went on Dilucs face began to contort out of confusion and slight disgust.

“Just... don’t ask and we can both forget about it.” You suggested and he nodded in agreement.

“Gladly.”

Kaeya

“Well this is... interesting.” The blue haired man muttered as he had scrolled through the object that he held in his hands.

He had just seen it lying face up on the counter and his curiosity got the better of him.

And he was very surprised by what he saw.

Just, pages and pages and pages of him in different poses with different people, in varying levels of... intensity.

He was very confused at first, unsure of how to respond but as he wen through he realized each post had a red heart underneath it.

What could that possibly mean?

As he scrolled through he eventually got into the works of writing, all with the same ‘Kaeya x reader’ underneath their titles.

Before he could scroll any farther he heard the door creak open as you walked into the room with a warm joyous smile on your face.

Well until you saw Kaeya with your phone.

“Kaeya, why do you have my phone?” You asked, he looked down at the bright object then back at you.

“So that’s what it’s called, well you did just leave it open so I decided to have a look.” He admitted with a shrug.

You quickly snatched it from him and looked at it realizing he had been through all your posts that you had saved under the label ‘Kaeya’.

Your heart pace quickened out of embarrassment,

“How much did you see?” You asked, he chuckled and moved closer to you, he lightly lifted you chin so you’d look at him, he leaned into your ear and whispered,

“You seem to like me in some interesting positions.” He teased, and let go of your face.

You covered your face, not wanting to look at him.

“Oh, don’t be shy now, its quite cute that you like me that much. I find it, oddly endearing.” He admitted, patting your head lightly.

You finally took your head out of your hands as you looked up at him. He smiled at you as he leaned in close to your face yet again.

“Although, you should be more careful about having your ‘phone’ open to such a... suggestive image.” He teased yet again as you backed up from your face and walked out of the room.

You looked down at your phone which screen has been dimmed a bit, as you raised the brightness you saw a picture of Kaeya you definitely would not be able to unsee for a long while.

Zhongli

Zhongli is definitely a fan of stories,

But the stories he found were definitely not the ones he had in mind.

You didn’t know how to explain to Zhongli that he’s from a game and people all over the internet love and adore him, without showing him.

He doesn’t even know what technology is, let alone the fact people use it to create artwork of him.

“Traveler, I apologize if this is a bit odd, but I saw you looking at some paintings of me on your phone item. How do you have so many? Did you make them also yourself? You’re quite talented if so.” He asked, as you looked from him, to your phone, then back up to him.

He was just patiently standing infront of you, waiting for an answer.

You sighed slightly as you put down whatever you were doing and grabbed your phone.

“Oh, I’m sorry, was that not something I was supposed to bring up?” He asked, confused by your reaction.

You shook your head as you patted the spot next to you, gesturing for him to sit down next to him.

“No no, you were going to find out sooner or later.” You said as he politely sat down next to you and faced you, ready to listen to whatever story or explanation you were going to give him.

As you explained he asked a few questions, which you answered as best you could.

After you explained how the world Zhongli came from was not exactly real, he was just a character in a video game, and because of that, many people around the world love him and make things to show their love and appreciation for him.

He nodded, trying to understand,

“Well that’s definitely not what I expected. I’ve always had some sort of following but this, admittedly was not what I expected. So all of these people know about Rex Lapis?” He asked, to which you nodded in response.

“I see, well. There’s not much I can to about it now I suppose.” He said, turning back to you with a slight sigh. All the effort putting into hiding and it was, somewhat for nothing.

Liyue was going to have to learn how to be on their own regardless, so leaving wasn’t going to affect them to much, which was comforting to him.

“Thank you, traveler, for answering my question. I understand it was probably hard to explain this to me but I believe I understand now.” He thanked, you nodded accepting it and smiled at him.

However, your smile faltered when you saw Zhongli so lost in thought. You supposed it was because he basically left behind the only thing he’s every known.

You lightly put your hand on his shoulder, snapping him out of his thoughts.

“Hey, Why don’t we make some tea, I feel like you’d want to try these flavours.” You said, as he looked back over to you, he recognized this as a way to cheer him up and appreciated it.

“That would be wonderful.”

I spent probably an hour rereading it again and again, feeling giddy and warm and thinking, “I don’t deserve this kind of praise.” The idea that I could engage their imagination and feelings like that is so encouraging. And they made such incredible art for it! It was probably the most detailed, intricate piece of fanart I’ve ever received. Somehow my fic inspired something great from them! I’m sorry to bother BUT A this story got to me so bad, and you’re such a good writer and like, it made me cry too hard and I love it and I lowkey want to unread it, so I can read it again for the first time?? Does that make any sense??? Anyway, what I mean is, you’re s o good. I found this fic recently, and I don’t often dare to leave comments but all your works are crazily inspiring to me and I h a v e to. I’d say, this work above any other sent me on a beautiful mind trip ?? like, it takes you to a place you totally forgot you’ve been before, or even a place you’ve never seen at all. It’s weird because this happens to me often with every Undertale story of yours haha, and it’s unusual to find a certain author who simply inspires you to create all the time - but you do! when I read this fic, especially the scene right before the tragedy (MY HEART IS STILL BROKEN) I got a sudden memory from when I went to see the sea for the first and only time, very long ago. A huge street; one side was full of light from a lively part of the town. The other side were just these, bushes by the curb. No idea how they’re called XD The ocean and the red sunlight was left behind us, and the air was s o fresh and clean. There was nothing actually odd about it, but it was so very magical. And *you* managed to take me there again as that scene began, starting from when Alphys and Sans are talking, I think. I promise you, it felt like I *was* there, watching everything through someone else’s eyes and then *feeling* all at once. It was so vivid, and it became so freaking painful at -that- point. And you know, that’s one of the reasons why I loved more than anything this way-too-short still incredibly-perfect fic. Through your writing, you also managed to get something out of me that just left me for a while. Which is, doing art and actually enjoying and finding peace and confidence within every part of the process. And well, I must say I appreciate you greatly for it!! Actually, I’m mentioning this too, cause, this story of yours inspired me to draw a little something on that scene I’m talking about~ [link to art]

Interest Check??

Hey so I suck at keeping this art-blog updated, particularly because it’s primarily for personal art and I don’t have much time for that anymore. I do art full-time, and while that’s VERY rewarding (furries pay my bills and they are extremely nice, chill, and fun folks but also there are only so many cartoon animals you can draw before it starts wearing u out!!), I do find myself REALLY pining for the days when I was just churning out Silent Hill sketch pages and RP art 24/7, and my own original content for that matter.

It’s just hard to justify (or find the energy for) doing that in the mad scramble to make ends meet each month. So while I’m happy and truly do love what I’m currently doing, I still would really like to make some time to do my own thing too.

SO, I was thinking of starting a Patreon specifically for more personal stuff-- probably with a heavier lean towards horror content than my usual workload (which is very cartoony and cutesy a lot of the time-- not that I don’t ever draw cute personal art or anything, I just wanna be able to draw stuff on the other end of the spectrum too lmao). There would be no tiers, no big rewards for joining outside of maybe voting on what sort of projects I start, essentially just a monthly tip jar for anyone who likes my work and would like to see me make more of it instead of popping up once every few months and posting a single random image with no context and then disappearing again.

If I was able to get a little stream of extra cashflow going in addition to work-work, I could conceivably:

go back to working on / illustrating Gravity (my obscenely long Silent Hill 2 continuation fic that’s halfway done but hasn’t updated since Trump became president)

draw more fanart for things I really like in general instead of waiting and hoping for someone to commission it lol (stuff I already draw like SH, FMA, and Pokemon go without saying, but there’s a bunch of other things I’ve been aching to draw more of too-- NITW, Little Nightmares, Doom Patrol, etc etc the list goes on and on)

revisit my own original characters and concepts, which have been gathering dust for many years (anyone remember Leo? Anybody? ANYBODY??)

get crazy and start dabbling in traditional media / experimenting with new programs and mediums again (I studied watercolor in college and just never?? have time??? to do it????? :()

maybe... someday... if the stars align....... I could write Four and Twenty Blackbirds. You know, that Gravity sequel that I was already drawing art for 10+ years ago but never, ever started? (this is a long shot but goddamn wouldn’t it be nice)

So uh, if anyone would be interested in such a thing, particularly if you are interested enough to toss me one (1) dollar each month, please do me a solid and Like this post. Before I go nuts and set anything up, I want to get at least a loose idea of whether or not it would be worth doing.

anyway this is to say: you do Not need my go ahead to use hollyshine as a name Especially if u came up with it first. (but obviously you have it.) like if i came across it in the wild i'd just think "aw sick someone else thinks hollyshine is a good name"

(also if ur comfy doing so pls share link? i like checking out this kind of thing and hollyshine is a pretty name.)

anyway idk like. obviously it doesn't bother me when people ask for permission to do something. like if u ask for permission to make fanart or write a fic or anything Like That i'm not gonna b upset and i'm not gonna say no but at the same time idk.

it's fic, like, i didn't ask wp if i could write about gay cats murdering each other and causing trauma, i just did.

and like idk i know there's a lot to be said about this, more than i can say right now, but i want to promote the attitude that like. in general you don't have to ask.

and it's definitely. a line.

i think i would be a little upset if, say, someone took the lore in "the elders' den" stories and didn't credit me.

that's not to say y'all can't, by the way. if you want to use "full moon" (story of how cats know when the gathering is), "there's holy water, undiluted; i see the divine" (riverclan creation story), etc., you're more than welcome to. i'd be honoured. just link to the original/cite it somehow, and don't plagiarize. (i.e., you can't copy the actual work text.)

right but those stories are all my creations. like the meat of the story revolves around my own characters and ideas.

buuuut you don't have to ask? i mean i don't expect that. and i know there's a variety of opinions on this but i'm of the opinion that to a wide degree of tolerance, you shouldn't have to ask.

there's. like okay, i understand why authors want people to ask before translations are written, that makes sense to me. i'd be uncomfortable if someone started translating one of my works without telling me, mostly because i'd want to be around if they had doubts about intentions/phrasing. doubly so if it was a language i didn't speak.

and when you get into Original Characters, Original Lore, that kind of thing, there's definitely. idk, we're all fic authors, right? like we're all out here writing without permission. and i'm not sure, i'm honestly not sure what conclusion i want to draw, because it's kind of this fuzzy thing like. i Don't know when it's acceptable to just do something and when you should ask.

and usually i just copy my faq or link to it, depending on how much energy i have. because i don't really. egh.

but i think something about this ask (and anon, i'm not upset with you or anything, big /nm, i'm just rambling about attitudes towards this and philosophy) hit something in me because like.

if you had the idea before me, or even without Intending to do it because i did it, i think you shouldn't feel like you have to ask, and you shouldn't feel like my opinion matters.

and bluh i hate saying "shouldn't feel" it's a very ineloquent way of saying a more nuanced thing but it's also shorthand for a more nuanced thing.

but i digress; i think it's just. i know when you're just on ao3, the general attitude seems to be a Lot More open. someone wrote something inspired by "what is our ending and beginning" which was a Huge shock to me because. inspired by My Little Hollyleaf One-Shot? what?

and i certainly like. when i posted "funerals. mourning. prayer." i didn't ask...fuck can't remember the author of "Tell Me About Your Ancestors" but i didn't ask them, i didn't ask solacefruit, for permission, i just cited my sources and moved on.

(altho i did forget to add "the light that shines on you" for way too long whoops so ig plugging for it now go read it it's really good.)

ig what i'm saying is, i'm making Transformative Works, right? that's part of what makes fic legal, is that it's meant to be substantively different from the original. i think but you get the point.

and so if someone wants to make a transformative work of my transformative work, i don't see why they should ask for permission any more than i did.

ok so nearly everyone in the fandom is doing this and as sad as it is that we need to remind these simple things to people, I feel the need to talk about this too.

I won't make this too painfully long because I know y'all most likely already know this and I just wanna put out a basic list of shit you should always follow in the fandom. But for those who don't, a lot of fan content creators, be it artists or writers or just general fans trying to enjoy their time, have been leaving/quitting the fandom.

Why are they leaving, you ask? Toxicity. Toxicity nearly everywhere. People can't hold respectful debates or discourses on interesting topics regarding characters/the books/ships anymore without someone toxicly stating that only their opinion is correct, and going off on anyone who has different opinions carried with a lot of aggressive, rude and shallow behaviour. Fanartists have gotten death threats and are scared of drawing art for the Riordanverse without getting anxious af.

Now the thing is, having done those (eXcepT for the death threats) doesn't automatically make u an entirely shitty person. Maybe you made a mistake and came off as rude without rlly meaning to. That's okay. Here's how to identify if u ever did so, and to change that behaviour. Again, it's okay to make mistakes, but we rn as a fandom srsly need to try to turn things around.

Some basic shit you should remember being a part of the fandom:

• NO NSFW STUFF WITH MINORS!!! That means fanarts, fanfics etc. But here's the shocking thing- when someone does this, you can actually hold them accountable WITHOUT SENDING DEATH THREATS AND CROSSING THE BOUNDARIES! Cuz doing that only makes YOU stoop just as low. Pl e a s e remember that always and be respectful whatever you do.

• That being said, ppl are allowed to write nsfw stuff IF said characters are aged up, aka 18+. Ofc, it's a must that they put a content warning beforehand because many people may not want to read that. BUT, if you don't want to read it and if they've aged up the characters so nothing's morally wrong or gross, then please do NOT hate the author in the comments, do NOT report their post/account. Seriously dude, they gave warnings, if you don't want to read it just scroll past it's not that hard. Unless it's with minors, you shouldn't be reporting innocent ppl's accounts like that.

• one thing that I've seen a lack of in the fandom are trigger warnings. I've seen several fics whose covers are literally of blood. And entire chapters were written with intricate graphic descriptions yet with no trigger warnings or a tw wayyy down in the caption. you never know what may be triggering to someone if a lot of ppl see ur content but the least u can do is put trigger warnings on the most common stuff. I get that it may look aesthetically matching if it's a murder mystery sorta fic but isn't the well being of people more important?

• look I'm not saying you're not allowed to have opinions, but the problem is when you start treating your opinions like facts. I can't count the times I've seen someone state their opinion like it's facts and then trash on other's for having a different opinion. PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS. Stop attacking people for liking Jason more than Percy or vice versa, there's no rule that you absolutely have to like one or the other, ppl can like who they want. When you're stating UR opinion, it would be nice if you used stuff like "I personally think that..." or "... that's just my opinion" because again, Ur opinion is just that, not a fact.

• if you can't have discourses or discussions about certain topics respectfully and nicely then don't have them. if someone's done nothing wrong but state their opinions and you don't like it, don't go attacking them. if you don't have anything good to say, shut up and just scroll past. it's not that hard. we don't need any more negativity in the fandom. If you feel like you're about to snap, mute or block the account you don't like and move on with life. But for the love of GOD don't go out of your way to be agresive or hateful to ppl. They have feelings too and run fan accounts for fun, not to get upset and hurt.

• when a fan account owner has made a post saying what they think of a certain topic, and you comment saying you think they're wrong and they reply that you didn't get the point of their post, then chances are you most probably actually did not understand what they were saying. when this happens, pls don't go on forcing ur opinion onto them as if you got what they meant when you didn't. Maybe next time when someone says you didn't get what they were saying, ask them nicely to explain it to you instead of going off like that?

• firstly, shame on you if you've ever run a hate account. just why? how much more negativity do you want to add? if you come across a hate account please please report it and block it and tell your friends to do the same. if you're targeted in a hate post, I'm so sorry, please know that they're shallow ppl just trying to make you feel shitty, you're dont have a trashy fan account; what they say is false and done purely to spite. report and block them.

• I know Rick has written a lot of racist bullcrap and hasn't batted an eye when we complained about them, but that still doesn't give you the right to send him death threats. Again, no death threats to anyone, yikes.

• don't use fanart that's racist. don't repost them either. Piper has feathers in it? don't repost it. also if you can't exactly and properly credit artists, don't repost their art saying "credits to the artist". I've done that before too but now I understand that's not right.

• also, while we're at it, can we all please universally agree on non-racist fanon stuff and get rid of racist canon stuff? like Piper and feathers, and piper & hazel with colourful and golden eyes, Piper's stupid not like other girls behaviour, and all the other bullshit Rick has put into the books. We as a fandom don't accept it and pretend they do not exist, no racism in this place 🥰‼️

• ppl are allowed to have their own headcannons, it doesn't matter what's cannon. Don't go "but in the books it's.." because in the books there's a lot of shit, and besides, if someone wants to headcannon Percy as brown? black? totally alright! they're allowed to do so! don't go bUt pErCy iSnT pOc iN tHe bOoKs. same goes with sexualities and etc headcannons. as long as they're not erasing the already representation of a minority, it's okay to have headcannons of your own. Like Hazel is canonically black and we should respect that and bring out the best of that, yk what I mean?

That's all I have to say for now. I'm usually a very light-hearted cursed meme account on here but things are getting out of hand. I was wanting to make my 8 yr old brother get into the Riordanverse fandom but seeing the situation of the fandom rn scares me. We need to think about the kids in the future who'll be in this fandom, whose lives will be changed and shaped by these books. Surely, the older people in the fandom before us would be utterly disappointed at what it's become and it's our job to constantly look out for the fandom.

If you're leaving/have left the fandom, I'm so sorry that it got to that point, but ur wellbeing comes first, do what you feel is necessary to feel better, all of us send lots of positive vibes towards your way! and to the peeps who've still decided to stay in the fandom and use their account to talk about this issue, I cannot express how thankful I am of you for doing such an important thing right now. And to everyone - as Harry Styles once said - treat people with kindness.

I really love your art so much and it is the style I strive for someday, but I want to know how long have you been doing it for? And how do you build confidence in your art? I hate everything I make and when I post I don’t get any notes or interaction or even constructive criticism on how to do it better and sometimes it really makes me want to quit but I want to get past that. Do you have any advice?

first off, thank u, i appreciate that you like my art style.💖 i’ve been doing digital art for 15 years and before that i liked to doodle with pencils. i was pretty much just self-taught. and let me tell you, improving art skills and building confidence kinda go hand in hand, and it takes an enormous amount of patience and practice. i’ve had down years where i didn’t draw a single thing. i think my longest dry spell was like 3 years of practically nothing, maybe a handful of drawings total, so i understand completely the desire to quit––i have quit, a few times, but luckily, just because you quit a creative hobby doesn’t mean that you can’t or won’t come back to it at some point. fandom the past few years has given me more creative drive than ever, and i’m really grateful for that. when i started tumblr, this was supposed to be just a blog to post my art. but i wasn’t part of any fandom at that point, and didn’t know anyone here, so nothing got notes. so i understand that feeling as well, of just feeling like i was posting into the void, and not feeling great about my art. it sucks, and i’m sorry you’re going through that :( i’m not super great at advice, but i think the best thing i can tell you is keep posting stuff, make sure you’re tagging everything properly (i think only the first 5 tags show up on the tumblr search, so if you write comments in the tags, put those at the END rather than the beginning of the tags), make some friends so you can talk about fic and art and fandom stuff (friends can really help encourage you and get you hyped on your own work), you might make fanart for someone’s fanfic if you want a little exposure (i always ask fic writers first if it’s okay just as a courtesy; most are very happy to receive art of their fic), and don’t let yourself fall into the mindset of notes=good, and no notes=bad, or that reblogs=good and likes=bad. the quality of your work isn’t directly correlated by how popular it is, i promise you. i regret deleting the artwork i had up on here several years back

Initially, my brother actually showed me it existed. He was reading something on FFNET and shared it with me because he thought it was funny, and I was like “WAIT this is a thing??? that people do????” and then it spawned into me writing fic of my own--Disney shows, band RPF, and then TV shows and movies) and never stopped.

Captain America: The First Avenger - what’s your fanfic reading pet peeve?

I feel like you of all people would know this better than me Savannah, I’m so damn PICKY sometimes.

One big one is self-deprecating. It’s shooting yourself in the foot. “I suck at summaries”/”Sorry the summary sucks” makes me have 0 confidence that you can write a fic, either. It doesn’t have to be good, y’all, it just has to get the job done.

Also those “social media fics” that are literally just. stealing tweets/memes/tiktoks. What you are doing is not original. It’s called plagiarism. And it’s also incredibly uninteresting to read.

Iron Man 3 - underrated fanfic trope?

Groundhog Day/Time Loop. Amnesia. Anything Dream World/Lotus Eater Machine/etc.

I really love the classics because they work for a reason, and I think some people sort of...forget where they come from, in a way? Like there are a million variations on the Soulmate AU, but sometimes it doesn’t have to be this whole unique concept to reinvent the genre or something. It can just be a really interesting Soulmate AU that we all know and love, you know?

Guardians of The Galaxy - be honest. would you want someone from marvel to read your fics?

It’s a pretty hard no for me. I’m of the ilk that fandom stays in fandom and it’s for us, not for them. Not to mention I don’t trust them with my ideas. Unless they’re ready to turn my Tony Lives!AU fic into a reality and offer me a job on the production team to go with it, I think I’ll keep it all to myself.

Ant-Man - send a few headcanons of your favorite characters!

You all have seen this in my fic before, but I love Pepper backstory. It was something a lot of older writers in the fandom used to do, then sort of abandoned when canon didn’t have time for it and the fandom got bigger.

I particularly love the idea that her mother is still alive, because a middle class mom’s opinions on her daughter dating Tony Stark has a lot of comedy potential for me. But also...knowing your daughter is the CEO of a massive conglomerate??? That she’s almost died multiple times??? idk there’s so much interesting 3rd person perspective there for me that expands on who Pepper is and how she grew up that I think would just be a joy to read more fic about.

Wandavision - try to draw fanart for one of your fics. (it doesn’t have to be good!)

It was so bad I refuse! Digital art forms are where it’s at. Look at those gifs for the fics. That’s my art. That’s all I got.
