I think a lot of people on this website would benefit from hearing that back in 2011 when I was a part of my college's pride group, I was friends with a gay cis male drag queen whose roommate was a lesbian. They had sex with each other often, but it didn't stop my friend from identifying as a gay guy, nor did it stop their roommate from being a lesbian. Neither of them identified as bisexual. This kind of stuff happens between queer people of "conflicting" identities all the time, it's nothing new. There aren't any rules

I love drag because the binary has no place there. Anyone can do drag in any way they want. Trans men can be drag kings, trans women can be drag queens, vice versa, and anyone can be anywhere in between because once you're on that stage all anyone cares about is that you're rockin it in your own way. If my cis friend I brought along to the show asks what that performer's gender is, the only correct answer is "who fucking cares? They're just hot".
The drag community has so much body positivity in it too. I get to see people who are heavy and have rolls like me get cheered on and swooned over and shove dollar bills from the audience into their lingerie and it's so cathartic because I always got told that people who look like me can't be sexy.
Go support your local drag shows and maybe do drag yourself because it's the most beautiful event on earth.

Rupauls drag race is straight peoples drag
Let me explain
While Rpdr has played a big part in the normalization of drag and queer art it’s still held to the standard of gender norma and sex conformity. In Rpdr it’s common to see queens be chastised for not having enough padding, not looking enough like a girl. Rpdr has created this idea that instead of an art form that includes all genders and all gender presentation it’s just male to female,e makeup. Queens have been in the bottom for just not looking “female enough”. We also see this in other unspoken rules of drag race like always wearing heels and padding. While Rpdr is very important for drag as is (almost) all mainstream queer media it’s filtered through the norms required to keep it comfortable for straight people so they don’t have to do actual contemplation on how they view the world as a whole.  (and there’s a whole conversation about how this also ties into transphobia but I really need to go to bed)

l've decided to rework my Angel Dust redesign
Tumblr media
I'm not getting rid of the other one I made!!!
I just kinda realized that it's hard to be a drag Queen, pornstar, and mafia member at the same time since each looks WILDLY different, so I wanted to differentiate between all three. So he's getting 3 different designs :p SO, here's a sneak peek at his mafia suit, l'm still working out exactly how I want him to look with each so it might change a lot or not at all.
I'm gonna stick with what Viv originally said where his "boobs" are just fur pushed up for from how tight his suit is, so it's gonna be way flatter here than in the other two since it'll be tighter in the chest area instead of the waist
His drag persona and outfit is going to be pretty modern because I headcanons that he keeps up with fashion trends, especially when it comes to his performances, and I feel like staying relevant is a pretty important part of it, kinda like YouTubers??? Idk if that makes sense. Anyway I'm basing him HEAVILY off of Tony Midnite because I discovered him about a year ago and GOD I am IN LOVE
Like LOOK AT THIS vwv (ass quality was the best I could get)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa | LOVE IT
He was also a HUGE activist for gay rights and is in the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame, and also owned his own costume design studio
There's almost no photos of him tho and l'm really upset about it >:(

I'm making social media accounts for my new drag persona, and I'm realizing just how fucking ABYSMAL the state of social media is, especially for LGBTQIA+ people and drag performers (and this probably goes DOUBLE for POC)
I made an account on instagram and IMMEDIATELY got suspended, most likely because my username had "drag" in it (I appealed, but they required my email AND phone, which seemed like an invasion of my privacy. I dont want family and coworkers with my phone number finding my drag profile!)
I didn't encounter any backlash on Twitter (yet), but when they required me to follow at least one account, Tucker Carlson was immediately recommended to me in the top 3 profiles.
Tumblr media
"Alt-right pipeline" and "mass censorship" hardly BEGIN to cover it. They feel like understatements at this point. And it's only going to get worse if KOSA passes.
Anyways, go follow my drag blog, @lui-she . (I haven't posted on there yet, but I will soon!)
Protect beginner drag! Protect bad drag!

i think it's sad how narrow of a view of drag people end up getting when they only see it through ru paul and other hyper commercialized avenues. drag is not only for conventionally attractive, thin, toned, or muscular people. it's not just for people assigned male at birth. it's not just for gay men. drag does not lean heavily white. drag does not have to be feminine.
drag is everything but that. drag is full of fat and chubby performers, performers of color, disabled performers, drag kings, male impersonators, men performing as men, women performing as women, people who perform as multiple genders, people who perform as no gender, people who perform as nonhumans, trans, men women and nonbinary people, lesbians, bisexuals, and whoever else you can think of.
drag is diverse as hell and it's best served hot, so checking out your local drag scenes is crucial to enjoying a taste of what it really has to offer as an art form.
