We got a HUGE Dev Insight post today full of the nerdy detail I love reading about. I'm gonna try and point out the big stuff and summarize the longer wordy bits.
WEAPON BALANCING
This first part is just going over weapon Usage Rate/Kill Rate pre and post mid season balance patch across both high skill and all-skill lobbies. TLDR is Immortal was top pick in high skill lobbies despite not performing higher than intended. Top performers were Hand Cannons and Pulse Rifles (Bungie once again proving airmchair dev pvpers wrong). Post patch Hand Cannons and Immortal stayed the same and Pulses went down a bit.
Interestingly, across all skill lobbies, Auto Rifles were some of the highest performers. Both in Usage and Kills. Hand Cannons, however, were still the most picked. Peak shooting and playing cover are ubiquitous to higher skill tiers, preventing autos from becoming too effective in those particular lobbies. Thus, the Hand Cannons come out. Really neat stuff. Check out the graphs on the OP.
SEASON 22 WEAPON BALANCING (the one about the Range rework)
Double Special will no loner drop more Heavy than intended
Although I will say, unless they addressed how much special you can get off Heavy kills, I don't see this changing the effectiveness of double special too much. We'll have to wait and see.
Range. Range and Zoom are being decoupled. Mid Range options are being brought closer together and down in regards to effective range and damage falloff. At 100 Range stat: Hand Cannons, Autos, and Sidearms are going up. Pulse Rifles and SMGs are going down. Bows and Scouts will remain the same. Several exotics received hand tuned adjustments (i.e. Ace of Spades (when Memento Mori is active) damage falloff range penalty has been increased to 15%, more on the OP).
Weapon Archetype Adjustments
Hand Cannons. On top of the range buff they will receive:
General
Increased reload speed at 0 stat by 15%.
PvE Damage
Increased damage against minor combatants (red bars) by 20%.
Increased damage against major combatants (orange bars) by 75%.
Heavy Burst
Changed Warden's Law to be the first member of a new sub-family, Heavy Burst
Fires a 2-round burst.
Bows are having their projectile adjusted to be more reliable.
SMGs. 750s have been 720s this whole time (visual UI bug) and will show the appropriate RPM now.
Sidearms. Aggressives are receiving a bodyshot damage nerf. 32 to 30.
Pulse Rifles. BXR is back to 20 zoom
Shotguns. Please use The Comedian (UI bug fixed).
Fusions. Fixed a bug with crafted fusions, charge times, and damage
Heavy Wave Frames. Made it harder to kill yourself with.
Swords. This is an enormous rework. The TL;DR is Sword Guard is about to be way more effective. No longer drains energy while guarding. provides 82.5% to 95% damage resist (whoa). Has duration increased across the board and increased movement speed while guarding. Huge.
Exotics:
You can now use the bayonet on the Monte Carlo (new catalyst)
Verglas Curve works with Fissures now.
DMT and Quicksilver got bug fixes.
Two-Tailed Fox + catalyst now fires a 3 rounds of rockets instead of 2 (with an extra rocket in the 2nd)
Le Monarque. Hoo boy. Is being converted to a Lightweight bow. Damage is going down. Rate of Fire is going up. Damage over Time effect duration down from 3 to 1.75 seconds. Same DoT damage as before (more per tick, 6 ticks). Poison damage INCREASED 50% in PvE. Net buff for PvE. Obvious nerf for PvP.
Vex Mythoclast's RPM is being reduces to 360. Increased damage against minor combatants (red bars) and major combatants (orange bars) by 25%
Tommy's Matchbook scorch stacks adjusted but overall the same (w/Ashes)
Touch of Malice got some big changes. The Blight will now stun Unstoppable Champs and deals Arc damage. The Final Round will no longer kill the player and instead hold you at 1HP and deals 20% more damage in PvE. Self damage reduced from 10 to 7. Health on multikills up from 30 to 75 and now functions like Unrelenting. Excellent excellent buffs. The Scout Rifle Enthusiast Club will be ecstatic.
Cloud Strike will be less effective vs players. Lightning strike kill distance reduced.
Wicked Implement also getting some buffs. The timing window for Creeping Attrition has been increased from 3.5 seconds to 4.5 seconds. You can now also active Tithing Harvest by destroying Stasis crystals. The catalyst now gets Headstone (yay). I'm personally very excited about this.
Perk Changes
Bipod is getting it's nerf to damage reduced.
Envious Assassin's weird timer has been removed. Much easier to activate now.
Over-Under now does bonus damage to Woven Mail, combatant shields, and the overshields provided from Dark Cabal and Lucent Moths. Still not a good perk.
Under Pressure. Too good on Fusions. 25% nerf to accuracy scalar.
Shoot-To-Loot works with explosive rounds now.
Bug fixes to Valiant Charge, Ambush, and Explosive Light.
Chill Clip will now take 3 shots to freeze. Slow stacks reduced from 60 to 40. Big nerf. RIPtide amirite?
CRAFTING ECONOMY CHANGES
They're essentially buffing how much weapon XP you get across the whole game. Neomuna red borders will be easier to farm.
And that's about it as far as what you need to know. Some very very nice changes in there. Very excited about seeing two Exotic Scouts getting substantial buffs. Range rework seems like a net positive change. I suspect Scouts may be more useful now that their ranges just got a lot more rigid. I hope the Hand Cannon buff feels substantial. I've been itching to use them in PvE again for a long time. The insight on PvP usage was very interesting to see. I love this kind of stuff but it can seem a little dense in places. Hope this helps!

As a big sibling with a lil sib with epilepsy, when they read TBC they Honestly thought if they got struck with lightning reciting the lord's prayer they'd be cured like Shadowsight is from their epilepsy. I had a discussion with them on how that's not how it works, but ge was so upset they took it away from Shadowsight that he hasn't picked the books back up and has stated that 'he hopes Ashfur wins and starts a new religion.,'
I do not even know how to respond to this besides saying that your little sibling is 100% right to be pissed and I now also hope Ashfur wins and starts a new religion.
#Legit I did not know that Shadow's epilepsy being taken away was so deeply upsetting to SO MANY people#I put it back because putting it back was just the right thing to do (even asked the small following I had at the time what type to portray#(they picked the full tonic-clonics. I would have just done localized or absence if they'd asked me to)#And I did all that research for one single anon who asked for an epilepsy herb guide#So holy cow I didn't know that SO MANY people were snubbed and upset by canon's choice to do that. I'm so sorry#Your little sib isn't missing anything btw they do just go on to confirm that Shadow no longer has seizures.#In book 4 of TBC they say that it was all Ash all along and that's what they've stuck with into ASC#I'm sitting on an essay about... That plot thread. The Ashfur Grooming one#But it's in my drafts because I was a bit afraid of controversy#because i think it was written poorly. Even on top of Book 4's pivot to retcon away Shadow's seizures#I know a lot of people like and are invested in the grooming subplot of TBC. But. I think it was executed AWFULLY#and its really telling that THIS is the plot they tout as grooming *by name* in-canon.--#--and that Shadow has to 'pay' for what he 'did' in some way as if there was ever a choice in the books they wrote--#--But seemingly didn't even seem to clock that what was happening in Spotted's H was grooming until there was intense backlash#and a big part of my contention is the way that Book 4 suddenly tries to retcon that Shadow was groomed from the time he was a child#when it was actually part of book 1 that Shadow was able to personally tell the difference between a real vision and Ash's suggestions--#--BECAUSE he didn't have an accompanying seizure#So like... just know it's also NOT just 'you' if you connected to the character that was epileptic. It WAS there. It was a BIG part of him#Book 4 retconned it so that his epilepsy was part of a long scheme when before that point it was part of him#''ohh ur destiny is to see into the shadows'' BULL SHIT!!#bone babble

New Light Guide to Scout Rifles
Tumblr media
I’m posting deranged scout stuff again.
The loot pool in D2 is so nonsensical rn that it’s impossible to tell what comes from where without someone spelling it out. So I’m gonna do that. These are all the currently accessible best in slot legendary scouts that you can go out and get RIGHT NOW* if you wanted.
Tumblr media
OVERVIEW:
I will only be going over scouts that CAN STILL BE REALISTICALLY OBTAINED. No Eternal Blazons from a random lost sector. There is a section for world drops at the end but if it doesn’t have an Origin Trait, it didn’t make the list.
Barrel, sight, mag, and masterwork options are all personal preference. Even on MnK I like to go for recoil direction first, followed by stability, handling, and then range and reload. Your mileage may vary based on personal aim skill, preference, control scheme, etc, etc. so just experiment with everything until you find what you’re comfortable with.
THE LIST:
Night Watch (not pictured): Lightweight Kinetic. Shaw Han gives you a god roll (overflow, explosive rounds) for free just for doing the New Light quest. This is a great scout and will serve new players flawlessly. For most this will be enough.
Trustee (not pictured): Solar Rapid Fire from the Deep Stone Crypt raid. Probably the strongest energy legendary scout in the game. I have been really unlucky with my drops and don’t have a good roll or crafted version yet. Go for Incandescent and Reconstruction and watch the world burn.
Randy’s Throwing Knife (not pictured): Kinetic Rapid Fire. Random reward this season (S21) from crucible matches and engrams. Will be focusable next season. A previous pinnacle weapon brought back with random rolls. Look for things like Zen Moment, Rapid Hit, Kill Clip, Box Breathing, Discord, Perpetual Motion, Cascade Point, and Kinetic Tremors.
Servant Leader: Kinetic Rapid Fire. Found from decrypting Gambit engrams with Drifter. Monstrous 2.6x zoom. Even more monstrous loot pool. Alternative to Randy’s if Gambit is more your speed. Watch for Frenzy, Kill Clip, Adrenaline Junkie, Rapid Hit, One for All, Shoot to Loot, and Subsistence.
Doom of Chelchis: Void 180 from the King’s Fall raid. Craftable. Perks to look for: One for All, Explosive Rounds, Frenzy, Repulsor Brace. Rare Dragonfly+Firefly combo.
Hung Jury: Kinetic 180. Nightfall drop. Best in slot Kinetic scout right now. Adept is not mandatory but recommended. Perks to look for: No Distractions, Rapid Hit, Box Breathing, Firefly, Kinetic Tremors.
Long Arm: Arc 120. Legendary version of DMT from the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. 120s aren’t the strongest rn especially with big brother DMT around. Nut it’s farmable on certain weeks and has good perks so I’d say it’s worth it. Recommended perks: Rapid Hit, Hip Fire, Explosive Rounds, Adrenaline Junkie, Opening Shot.
Nameless Midnight: Kinetic 180. Drops from Vanguard Ops. Will be focusable next season (S23) at Zavala. Reliable workhorse. Monstrous perk pool. Luckily it means you can get pretty much whatever you want on it. Some to watch for would be Kill Clip, Keep Away, Kinetic Tremors, Slideways, Rampage, Zen Moment, Explosive Rounds, and Perpetual Motion.
Vision of Confluence: Solar 180. Drops from Vault of Glass raid. A personal favorite. This is low on the list due to rumors about the raid getting refreshed i.e. Last Wish style. It’s been a little left behind but is still technically farmable. Small perkpool with good options. I recommend Killing, Wind, Kill Clip, Firefly, Frenzy, and Zen Moment.
Last Rite: Kinetic 120. Ritual weapon for this season. Can be earned at Rank 16 with Zavala, Shaxx, or Drifter. It’s an OK scout. Nothing stellar but it is guaranteed and I’d be lying If I’d say Reconstruction and Focused Fury were’t a ton of fun to play with. You’ll earn this naturally as you play but I wouldn’t seek it out over the other on this list.
Pointed Inquiry: Void High Impact. Found in Savathun’s Throne World. Craftable. Frankly, the sights on this scout are terrible and its stats are mediocre at best. It can get Genesis+Disruption Break but your time is better spent going after something else.
Transfiguration: Kinetic High Impact. Drops from the Last Wish raid. Newly refreshed. A very strong scout and contender for best in slot next to Hung Jury. Watch out for the stellar Kill Clip + Rampage combo. Can also get Explosive Rounds, Kinetic Tremors, Discord, Keep Away, Demolitionist, Rapid Hit, or Rewind Rounds.
WORLD DROP SECTION:
World drops are rare nowadays but there’s a handful of useful scouts you can get from the random purple engram you found on patrol. Good luck!
Jararaca SR3: Stasis rapid fire. You will need to get lucky for this one but Banshee and Xur sell it from time to time and it still drops in the world loot pool (i think). Perks to look for: Kill Clip, Rapid Hit, No Distractions, Tunnel Vision, Headstone.
Contingency Plan: Arc Rapid Fire. Same deal as Jararaca. Just lightning flavored. Perks to look for: Kill Clip, Rapid Hit, No Distractions, Tunnel Vision, Elemental Capacitor.
Perses-D: Stasis High Impact. The only stasis High Impact in the game. Very strong if you’re lucky enough to get one. Stats-For-All or Rapid Hit combined with either One-For-All or Headstone is the play here. (Getting multikills with the headstone crystal can proc Stats-For-All FYI)
Glissando-47: Strand 180. New this season. Is pretty much outclassed by every other scout in this slot. Still has some valuable perks if you’re new and is sold at Banshee VERY frequently. Watch for Hatchling, Reconstruction, Overflow, Box Breathing, and Discord.
Honorable mention to Vouchsafe which can still be earned in the Dreaming City via Blind Well and Bounties. It’s outpaced by DoC in nearly every category so I’d say go for that if you need a purple flavored scout for whatever reason.
There are also all the exotic options. Polaris Lance (my baby), Symmetry, MIDA, DMT, Jade Rabbit, Wicked Implement, and Skyburners Oath. Implement is available this season via the Deep Dive quest and the others can be retrieved from the Lost Light Monument in the tower. Touch of Malice is a fascinating but not very useful exotic scout from Kings Fall. It is getting an unknown buff soon so if you’re doing KF for Doom of Chelchis, keep your fingers crossed for that one too.
Hope this helps!
*some of these are on weekly rotators so pay attention to what is available at the weekly reset!
Here is my full non-sunset-but-not-necessarily-obtainable legendary collection if you want to compare to your own vaults to see if you have any hidden treasures. I recommend everything here. Complete w/notes.

How to Make Armor Stats Work for YOU in Lightfall
If you are a new, returning or just really confused player this guide is for you!  Destiny has made a lot of changes to the armor/stat systems and my previous guide (which a number of you are still faving) is horrifically out of date.  What hasn't changed is Bungie doing a poor job explaining things to new players. So let this tumblr guide (yes tumblr your number one source of video game theory crafting) help you better understand this system.
Tumblr media
Sats, what do they do and how do they work?
Destiny has 6 armor stats that can be divided into 2 categories lets call them class stats and ability stats.
Tumblr media
Before we get into what you should be prioritizing there are some important things we need to go over.
First Important Thing The game only cares about increases of 10. For example there will be no improvement from increasing a stat from 30 to 38 but there is for raising it to 40.  Any stats over 100 are ignored and offer no additional benefit.
Second Important Thing Class stats do not have diminishing returns and actually see an improvement at higher levels. Ability stats start getting diminishing returns after 70.
Third Important Thing The first armor mod slot is for stat mods. Here's a screen shot I put text over because this guide didn’t have enough pictures.
Tumblr media
___________________________________________________________
PVE Stats
As of the writing of this guide the number one stat that everyone should be prioritizing regardless of class, subclass, and build is Resilience. You wanna know how that rank whatever absolute Chad of a guardian is blowing through your strike/battle ground and not dying while you are getting shredded? They have 100 resilience. With 100 resilience YOU could be that guardian.
OK what about all the other stats? The advice I give here is going VERY generalized and not build specific so keep that in mind.
Hunters Hunters are in a weird spot. The class is designed around using your dodge and would indicate you want to stack mobility. But mobility, as it stands, has less utility outside of the doge cool down than recovery and resilience. So ultimately it comes down to a matter of play style. If you are a hunter that uses your dodge a lot get at lest 80 mobility. If you are a hunter that does not play around their dodge then aim for 80 recovery.
Warlocks If you can get 100 recovery to go with your 100 resilience great!  This is something worth aspiring to but for those of you just starting out aim for 80 Recovery.  Rift is powerful, you want it as often as possible and the increased health re-gen is useful even when you aren't using your rift. The only time I care about mobility on a warlock is for jumping puzzles. Particularly the ones that require you to jump high. Cus.. sigh... warlock jump is a cruel mistress some times (personal experience but 50 mobility is all you need to get past most puzzles). You can use mods to temporary boost your mobility so ideally your armor should have as little mobility on it as possible.
Titans Resilience is your class stat congrats!  High fives all around! (Or fist punches I don't know what you guys do I'm a warlock main.)   Recovery is a great stat that works both in pve and pvp. If you want to get the most out recovery get at lest 80.  100 recovery is great but don't stress if you can't make it work.  Mobility actively makes some Titian abilities/exotics worst. Avoid this stat unless you having issues with a jumping puzzle.
So about those Ability stats........ As this is a generalized guide an not a super specific build guide I'm going to recommend prioritizing Discipline over Strength and Intelligence. Grenades are just too good right now. Aim for at lest 70. After that it’s kind of up to you and your play style as to if you want to stack intelligence or strength.
Tumblr media
___________________________________________________________
PvP Stats
Full disclosure, I'm a pve main and I suck at pvp. I am however friends with a few rather good pvp players so much of this information comes from them.
If you are terrible at pvp (like me) then this is your stat priority:
100 Resilience
80 Class Stat/Recovery
80 Discipline.
This allows your good pvp friends to use you as “bait” without getting one shot.
If you are good at pvp specifically if you have good enough positioning that you avoid getting hit often resilience becomes less useful. Titans still should go for 100 resilience as it is their class stat, non titans are good at 30 and instead should stack both recovery and discipline/their class stat.
Intelligence is far more useful in pvp than pve. It really shines in game modes like Trials of Osiris as passive re-gen is going to be how you get the majority of your super charge making it more useful than strength. ___________________________________________________________
How Stat Distribution Works
This is an entry level guide and I don't want to have to break out spreadsheets so I'm going to tell you some things that are not entirely true to keep it simple. Class and ability stats have separate stat pools and to get double 100's in class stats you will need to use armor mods and stat boosting subclass fragments.
Tumblr media
Please enjoy this Actinium War Rig I own which is one several exotics that breaks the rules and shits over damn near everything I just said.
___________________________________________________________
How to Get the Good Armor
This where I tell you how to farm up your high stat perfectly allocated armor. And when I figure out how to do that I'll let you know. Until then you can go to your ghost shell and slot a stat mod in the 3rd slot. This will guarantee that whatever armor that drops with random rolls will have at lest 10 of that stat.  Do note that this will be canceled out by any other effects influencing armor stats if they are in the same stat pool (unless stated otherwise). So if you are doing an activity that rewards high Strength armor and you have a Resilience mod in your ghost you are fine. But if you had a Discipline mod in they would cancel each other out.
Tumblr media
All right you've got your ghost modded in and you are ready to start farming them high stat armor pieces. What you want to look for is activities that have Tier 2 or above powerful and pinnacles as rewards.  Dungeons, Raids, Iron Banner and Trials also reward high stat gear. In addition to those look for any engram focusing that specifically says it rewards high stat armor.  It's important to take a moment to note that Bungie considers anything  55+ to be “high stat” (which is bullshit) the community (and myself) consider 60+ to be “high stat”. So keep your expectations measured.
Tumblr media
___________________________________________________________
What to Masterwork and What to Delete
I like itemized lists so get ready for some bullet points:
Master working armor not only opens up all the energy slots but also gives you +2 for each stat (even class items).
The first thing you should master work is a class item.
Ability stats are in a different stat pool than class stats so you should ideally be able to reach your desired target using little to no mods. This frees you up to use those mods for class stats.
Some sub class fragments can raise and lower your stats.
Just because something has a lot of stats doesn't mean it has the stats you want.
While more stats does not always equal better stats do not bother master working any armor below 60 stats. Trust me when I say you will get something better.
Tumblr media
When deciding what to masterwork I find it's best to plan around an exotic armor piece and subclass you want to use. Exotic armor is kind of a pain to farm for so it's best to build around it. Now you can absolutely sit down sort through your vault and do the basic math necessary to determine what you want to masterwork.... OR you could let D2Armorpicker.com do all that for you.
Just link your Destiny account (don't worry this is secure) and enter in the stats you want, what exotic armor you are using and your subclass. It will search your inventory and give you all the possible armor combinations that achieve that. For best results scroll down to advance settings and check assume all legendary exotic and class items are masterworked.  If you see any pieces of armor that come up frequently when look at different builds those are the ones you probably want to focus on masterworking first. Depending on what the stats look like on the exotics you are using there is a good chance you will need several master worked items in each armor slot to consistently hit your desired stat targets.
Tumblr media
___________________________________________________________
What About that Artifice Armor I've Been Hearing so Much About?
Artifice armor has an extra mod slot which can be used to increase any stat of your choosing for +3 at no additional energy cost. Which is insanely useful. Now before you get excited know that at the time of this guide Artifice armor ONLY drops from master dungeons. This is not an entry level activity nor is it solo friendly. Before you decide to attempt a master dungeon have a solid set of armor ready to go and clear the dungeon on normal mode at least once.
Tumblr media
Hey look another bullet point list!
There are currently 3 dungeons that have a master version in the game: Grasp of Avarice, Duality and Spire of the Watcher
Shattered Throne, Prophecy and Pit of Heresy do not have master versions.
There will be a new dungeon added in season 21 (Season of the Deep) and another one added in season 23. They will have master versions.
The last boss in a master dungeon has a chance to drop high stat armor in every slot.
The newest dungeon can be farmed (you can run it multiple times and still get drops)
Older dungeons will only drop gear once per character per week. UNLESS it is the featured dungeon. Featured dungeons can be farmed and change weekly on a set rotation.
___________________________________________________________
Closing Thoughts
I made this guide because I enjoy playing Destiny 2 and I want others to enjoy it as well.  Being frustrated because you don't understand game systems is not enjoyable. Hopefully this guide helps you murder hobo your way through the enemies of humanity a bit better than before.
That all said I really want to stress, particularly to new players, that you don’t need a perfect set of armor (artifice or otherwise) to play this game. Getting that perfect set (or as the case may be multiple sets) of armor is something worth aspiring to not something worth stressing out about.
Tumblr media
I use glaives because they are fun, the meta be damned!
If you have any questions or corrections feel free to ask! There was a mountain of additional info that I wanted to include but this guide was already too damn long.

listen i know the gay cannibal tumblr’s in love with is in indiana jones but pls PLS for the love of god do not romanticize the nazis i swear i will track down anyone who does and tie you up and subject you to a six hour minimum lecture about the nazis from an exhausted historian who went to college in the town where the nazi scientists recruited by NASA lived and worked. do not try me. the best thing about the the new indy movie is that it revived in the US a passion for punching nazis in the face.

some angel lore stuff from Supernatural: Bobby Singer's Guide to Hunting that's of personal interest to me.
note: humans have always had free will. angels seem to lack it. cas wasn't the first being to "invent" free will, but he was, perhaps, the first angel to act on it in a way that altered the course of god's narrative. and that's still BIG. he is the first angel to break ranks and "show some backbone" by saying "No" to heaven and god's plan.

revolutionising the world w my nanami video essay someday i promise you guys. in the meantime this is a playlist of daise approved utena video essays if you even care. i have um’d and ah’d about including the clear and sweet aou analysis series bc i think it’s wonderful in so many ways but do disagree with the fundamental read of the movie so. ehh. my general rule for including something on this playlist is ‘the analysis must be considered, somewhat original, something that i either agree with or think is valuable to keep in mind’. if there was less ‘the series isn’t as good’ and half-reaching at what my interpretation of aou is, then that aou series would probably be on here. i do recommend it but it just doesn’t feel right to have it on here sorryyy
