There he goes again, walking past with a smile and for fuck’s sake this time a wink.

It’s really not fair. He shouldn't have to suffer like this. Except Eddie knows life isn’t really meant to be fair. If it was he wouldn’t be having a prolonged existential crisis about his best friend.

And if life was fair it wouldn’t be getting worse.

He’s never been one to lose his head over a pretty face, male or female. He’s never understood that instant burst of attraction or the sudden desire that seems to take over some people. Sure some people look nice enough, pretty eyes, kind smile, technically attractive in all the right ways that people tend to agree on the concept.

Buck looked absolutely normal the first time he met him. Nothing special, just a guy, a stroppy frat boy type guy actually, then he became a nice guy, pleasant looking, a good partner and then he became a fucking miracle, something he never thought he’d have in his life. A friend, a partner, someone to have his back and he looked like every desire Eddie didn’t know he had.

It took years but one day he’d looked and he’d realised that Buck was the most beautiful person he’d ever seen and he keeps getting more attractive too, year after year the more special he becomes the more attractive he gets.

Right now, he’s fucking gorgeous and Eddie wants him in a way he’s really not used to. He remembers feeling like this with Shannon at the start but it didn’t last as long, all their problems washed the feelings away.

He’s wanted Buck for so long now and it shows no signs of stopping. Sometimes he thinks he’s used to it. Sometimes. Except he forgets; when he’s away from Buck for a little while he forgets how much he likes his face and so when he sees him again he has to go through this whole fluttery business of taking in his face remembering all over again, how much he loves him, wants him, feel his heart skip and his stomach flip. It’s really quite unfair, he’s far too old and sensible for this kind of thing.

Buck’s on the other side of the room right now looking fucking edible and smiling at him with a look in his eye that been getting more obvious.

Eddie stares back, god he’s staring right back and he can’t hide it anymore. He doesn’t even want to.

Buck cocks his head, holding his eyes and his smile twists, and then he chuckles softly and he blushes!

God Damn it he’s blushing and that is too much. One man can’t be allowed to be that pretty and not get kissed.

Buck looks like he wants to get kissed. Like he wants to get kissed by Eddie.

Eddie stomach flips on a cocktail of desire and hope and love. Shit he’s far too old for this nonsense. Buck’s looking at him like he’s waiting, has been waiting for something forever.

So Eddie’s feet decide enough is enough and that he’s far too old to wait any longer either. He crosses the room towards an unexpected love that came into his life and stayed and now he gets to have and keep it forever.

It’s hard to believe he got so lucky but he did because Buck is moving too. His friend, his love, knows him so well that he sees the decision on his face and just like he always has Buck knows just what he needs and meets him halfway.

They reach each other in the middle of the room and his beloved idiot smiles with his lip caught between his teeth and says hi.

Eddie’s never wanted anything more and he can have it.

He reaches out and pulls Buck close with a sigh of relief and Buck leans into the kiss with very satisfying enthusiasm and just like the first day he looked at his best friend and realised he was unexpectedly in love with him the world changes and becomes a little bit better

This was such a well thought out answer. So kudos to you for that. I also subscribe to the Eddie is a repressed gay man thought process. (I would even take it a step further and say he’s Demi as well) but the gay aspect is because a lot of what we’ve seen with him and his relationships? Everything you mentioned but on a personal note. It’s exactly what I went through myself. I was brought up in a very strict catholic home. Anything less than straight was not accepted. So naturally I repressed it. I repressed it hard. I forced myself into relationships with girls because it was what I had to do and what was expected of me. I dragged them out far longer than I should have until it just wasn’t sustainable anymore. And then rinse repeat for years. And it very much was like torturing myself with it. And the lack of emotional connection to them was just never there because despite my attempts at forcing it, it would never be able to really be there with a woman. The more serious the relationship would get, the more I’d start to panic. The more questions people would have the more I’d try and double down on them and start making insane decisions to try and be like see nothing odd here. Look at this very hetero relationship! And it’s exactly what I see and have seen playing out with Eddie. I think it’s part of why he’s my favorite character in the show to be honest because I literally tune in to the show and sit there watching my life playing out through him.

Hi anon, thanks so much for being vulnerable and sharing your story :) I think that's why a lot of people love this show is that they really do a good job with representation of all kinds. Eddie is such a beloved character for how much he is relatable on so many different levels. Regardless of what his "canon" sexuality is, the fact that so many people resonate with him and want him to find real happiness is beautiful. I really do believe there's light at the end of this tunnel, and once the show gets there (because I have full faith they're getting there), it's gonna hit even more people. I'm excited for that, and in the meantime, I'm with you in that I enjoy every episode as it comes out. I'm just down for the ride!

hercules au! yes it's my probably going to be 15k self-indulgent fic that i'll (maybe) post whenever i get around to finishing it! modern day hercules where buck is a superhero of LA (still a demi god) and eddie is trying to find his weakness/accidentally falls in love with buck (megara!eddie my beloved!). it's just fun and silly and a lil angsty

here's a snippet:

Eddie thinks about Buck tangling their fingers together. His sunshine smile and the way he cupped Eddie’s face like it was something to behold. He thinks about how easy things are with Buck. How Buck sees him. How he kisses Eddie. How he makes Eddie feel alive again.

“No,” Eddie shakes his head vehemently, “no, forget it. I won’t do this.”

“Eddie,” Jonah says with amusement, “he’s just some guy.”

“You’re wrong.” Eddie turns away from him, walking towards the ocean where the water laps at his shoes, “He’s different.”

“He’s just going to hurt you like everyone else in your life,” Jonah scoffs.

“Not Buck,” Eddie says with a small, private smile. “Buck’s kind and good, so fucking good, this city doesn’t deserve him.”

“Eddie—” Jonah starts, an edge there that warns Eddie he should be careful, but he doesn’t care.

“He’s going to help me get back to Christopher,” Eddie says quietly, brushing his lips, the ghost of Buck’s kiss nearly makes him shiver. “So, it doesn’t matter what you do,” he says, voice growing louder now as he pulls himself to his fullest height, “he has no weaknesses. He’s going to—”

Eddie turns, but Jonah is right there, waiting for him, smiling evilly.

“Oh,” he says in a dangerously calm voice that makes Eddie’s blood run absolutely cold, “I think he does, Eds,” Jonah leans forward pinching Eddie’s cheek, “I truly think he does.”

✨What’s a fic you’ve posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)

The Orpheus/Eurydice inspired series.

💫what is your favorite kind of comment/feedback?

My favorite comments are when people point out their favorite parts or when they tell me what they enjoyed, how they felt, what moved them -- those kinds of things. :) I also think it's fun when people get really analytical and find little details I threw in or even when they ask questions about my thought process or how the story came to be.

I'm also very fond of all the comments from people telling me the way I write ace/demi!Eddie makes them feel Seen. I know it's helped me work through and accept a lot of things about myself, and I'm always so so happy when people tell me it's helped them, too. Identifying as ace/demi has always been something that made me feel very weird, wrong, insufficient, etc... and if it helps anyone else feel better about themselves and their own sexuality, there's nothing more rewarding.

🌿how does creating make you feel?

Lovely! Expressive and fulfilled. 🥰

🤲what do YOU get out of writing?

I mentioned this some when I wrote about why I write, but it's an emotional outlet for me as well as something therapeutic where I get to put thoughts, feelings, ideas into characters and make them tell a story. It brings me joy being able to write difficult things but give them happy resolutions, and one of the biggest things that made me want to be a writer was telling stories about people who don't typically have stories told about them.

🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn’t think it would take you?

Most of my bigger, longer fics took turns that I didn't expect. I usually go into a fic with an idea in mind but sometimes when I go to write, it ends up completely different. Either the characters take over and come out differently than expected or something comes up that wasn't planned but seems interesting so I go along and follow it.

Now to answer more specifically, we're going to put this under a cut. I ramble a lot. I'm sorry 💕

Unless You Ask Me To is absolutely one of these. It started, conceptually, as a little, maybe 25K kind of fic (yes, this is little to me 🤣) where Eddie goes on a couple dates with a guy, Buck gets jealous, and they get together. I had a whole first draft and it was supposed to be simple, straightforward, over and done thing, and it wasn't even 20K.

And then I started thinking about it. And wondering about the other things I could do with the set up that I had. Such as, what if this random guy becomes Eddie's boyfriend and Eddie has to work through relationship issues like his traumas from past, his worries about abandonment, his difficulties with vulnerability and emotional intimacy, and (because this is me) him struggling with asexuality and wanting sex vs having sex, coping with having had sex that he didn't want but essentially forced himself into because it was something his partners wanted, and taking his canon anxiety/panic attack(s) and making him confront this in more depth.

And because I put him in a relationship with someone who was not his best friend, partner, coparent, love of his life, it let me play with things that imo wouldn't necessarily come up were he to be in a relationship with Buck. Or wouldn't come up in the same way since it's set somewhere beyond season 6 or at least beyond 6a, so Buck and Eddie are already SO very devoted, committed, and in love with each other. Even though they have yet to realize this. 🙃 But they're already in a place where even though they haven't addressed many of their Issues, they are veryveryvery close and vulnerable with each other and turn to each other for most everything.

So, this one has become difficult to write just because it is so massively flipping long now and there are a lot of struggles with sex, with panic and anxiety and bad triggers, with relationships, with self-worth that are not easy things to feel or confront. (There is also the whole part where I made two of Eddie's worst nightmares come to life, and it put him in a very very depressed broken state.)

But it's also been one of the most rewarding fics to write? It feels like people have connected to it and like they've been enjoying the whole epically long journey. I mean. We're over 150K now and the boys are still not together and 🫠🫠🫠🫠 what is that about. That's a hard thing to stick with when that relationship is the favorite core thing for most of us.

But that's been another fun, unexpected thing I got to play with -- because Eddie had a boyfriend for a good half of the fic, I really got to lean into the juxtaposition between a relationship that was good and healthy and didn't have issues per se, and a relationship that is the biggest best most beautiful and most right soulmate supreme kind of love. It's easy to write a messy incompatible disaster relationship and say that one with his best friend would be better. Obviously it would lol. But I think it was interesting and more telling to show him in a relationship that wasn't bad (and in fact eventually helps him resolve some issues) but it just wasn't right. And it makes the Buddie relationship shine all the brighter for it.

Anyway, this is a lot of midnight rambling 🤣 but tl;dr - Unless went completely off the rails, but I've really been enjoying the journey and I hope everyone else does, too.

And the next chapter should be finished and posted around Wednesday this week. It's going to be a very fun one. ;)
