Amelie is sitting at their desk, shuffling some papers around, when their eyes catch glimpse of the jar of ink and quill gifted by Ren. They give it a look of anger and hurt before shoving it into one of the drawers and resuming what they were doing previously.

like fuck ME, man, the thing about Lucienne is that she can be kind of prickly and straitlaced and opaque and dryly sarcastic and chilly AND she can be capable of acts of incredible faith, generosity, good humor, care, and forgiveness, and neither of those things have to be mutually exclusive! it's called the fundamental dichotomy at the heart of human nature and we all have it in us! god DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!

WATCH: Ursula K. Le Guin on Her Writing Process
“I am not one of those writers that hates writing.”
by Arwen Curry
Tumblr media
The Journey That Matters is a series of six short videos from Arwen Curry, the director and producer of Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin, a Hugo Award-nominated 2018 feature documentary about the iconic author.
In the fifth of the series, Theo Downes-Le Guin introduces “Where I Write,” an intimate peek into Ursula’s study and her writing process.
Recently I viewed an online video titled “I Tried Ursula K. Le Guin’s Writing Schedule,” one of many such links. The production was snappy and well-intentioned, but the writer-presenter lost me when she described preparation of a “fancy breakfast.” The fried egg, tomato, and rocket sandwich bore no resemblance to mornings in my childhood home. Note to content creators: if you geek out on someone’s routine, do your research. Ursula wrote an entire essay about how to properly soft-boil an egg. That’s what she ate for breakfast. Not fancy.
Questions about process and routine are unavoidable for writers. While it seems churlish to withhold answers, I suspect many writers don’t enjoy these questions. Ursula certainly didn’t. She felt that too much focus on process was distracting for aspiring writers, and that her answers might sustain the distraction. Eating the same breakfast or using the same pen as Ursula K. Le Guin will not help you write like Ursula K. Le Guin. But the frequency and fervency with which such details are pursued indicates that many believe otherwise. In any case, one shouldn’t want to write like Ursula K. Le Guin. One should want to write like oneself, which means developing one’s own routine and process.

There is a library on a small island out on the lake. It can only be accessed by boat and always seems to be shrouded in mist. It's customary to bring the librarian an offering in exchange for the book you needed as she never leaves the island.

Welcome to the writeblr library! A place for your new writeblr obsession! (All that we are missing is a cup of tea and candles. You may have to get those on the other side of the screen.)
Here's some suggestions to read:
The stories
Also the librarian (me) talks way too much. But perhaps you'll find some of their ramblings helpful:
On writing
On writing (manga and anime specific edition!)
On marketing
Random writing tips that work strangely well
How to join the Writeblr library
The official blog for the writeblr library, you can join with the link below:
Welcome to the writeblr library!
The playlist (for your reading pleasure)
Become a collaborator for the playlist here
Everything is (chaotically) organized by genre and tropes. There are specific tags to search by for tropes and you can always suggest more!
If you want to enter your story into the library, you are free too! see the example card!
__________
Example card instructions (showcased in the video):
Welcome newcomers! Here’s how you’ll enter in your story to the library
Make a new card in one of the genres. (click ‘add card’) If your story is in more than one genre, pick the one you feel like it most applies to, and you can tag it with the other gerne later (you can also use this as a template and fill it in with your own information.)
When you’ve made your card, time to customize it!
Add yourself as a member so we know who wrote what
Put in the title of your story, if you don’t have a title, you can use a stand in one for now
Under ‘labels’ put in all the tags for the genres and warnings and tropes for your story. If you don’t see the one you need, feel free to add it!
Add a cover! This can be a drawing or a picture or from a stock footage site like pexels or pixabay
In the description (what I’m writing in) write out the bio of your story, I’ll include resources for describing it as soon as possible. You can also describe the characters and vibe if you don’t want to describe the overall arc
Make sure to include a link to your tumblr! This can be found under the ‘attachments button’
from there, have fun with it! You can checklists for what chapters are done, you can put a bunch of cryptic messages in the comments, add in mood boards etc. etc.!
You can also add your tumblr in the bio - use the link button next to the text options. Tumblrrrrrr

hello~ I am returning to tumblr, the place of my youth, after a good few years away. this feels like a homecoming in a weird way because tumblr had such a big impact on myself and my identity growing up, and honestly I haven't had a place I could explore my thoughts in the same way in awhile. but my dash has become quite dead while I was gone so I'm looking for new mutuals/people to follow.
(also, if we've been mutuals and you're still here and you see this, please feel free to say hey!)
so let me (re-)introduce myself—my name is mikayla or mik (she/they is cool), and I am 28 years old and a public librarian + union steward in my daily life. I'm bi and currently living with my sweet partner of three-and-a-half years. we have two cats that I deeply adore, named snickers and lorelei. snickers is a big, beautiful former cat beauty pageant runner-up and lorelei is a tiny gal who was rescued from the streets as a teen mom. caring for them gives me so much purpose in my life and I don't know where I'd be without them! anyways, let me pay the cat tax:

(left: lorelei, right: snickers—in a rare moment of peace and camaraderie!)
I deal with chronic fatigue and other issues from an autoimmune thyroid disorder (Hashimoto's) and was recently diagnosed with anxiety/persistent depression/ADHD, which I mention here not because I think anyone wanted my entire medical history but because I hope to write about my experiences and possibly connect with others living with chronic illness, mental health struggles, and/or neurodiversity, as well.
current interests under the cut! if you're into any of the same things, please feel free to reach out / follow! I'd love to meet some new moots/friends :~)
some of my current interests include: cross-stitch/embroidery, latch hook rug-making, creative reuse art, art journaling, cats, libraries, dollhouse miniatures, zumba fitness, union organizing, socialism/communism, thrifting and antique/vintage collecting, interior design and organization, cryptids, folk art, graphic novels, tattoos (I currently have 19), podcasts & audiobooks, dungeons & dragons, country line dancing (I went to one queer country dance party and am now obsessed lol)
video games: baldur's gate 3 (hyperfixating hard on this one rn), disco elysium, paradise killer, stardew valley, animal crossing: new horizons
tv shows: what we do in the shadows, beastars, sex education, yellowjackets, abbott elementary, stranger things, the boys, i think you should leave, the bear, cutthroat kitchen, good eats, tuca & bertie, bojack horseman, black mirror, toast of london, rupaul's drag race, the good place, schitt's creek
authors: grady hendrix, jeanette winterson, lisa hanawalt, michael deforge, lucy knisley, box brown, agustina bazterrica, patricia polacco, brian k. vaughan, sylvia plath, mary roach, caitlin doughty, patricia lockwood, haruki murakami

ONLY 9 SLOTS LEFT!
As of this last update there are only 9 slots left before we hit our max nugget limit of 55! Last chance to get those nuggets in the submit box!
I give you my word that Nea and I are literally just going through the inbox, we aren't picking favorites or ignoring anyone here. I ask only that no matter who makes the final list, we all remain a civil and friendly community.

Who would be interesting in reading the newest daydream from my nightly fake scenarios to help me fall asleep???
Basically it's quite simple:
Girl who is travelling with the Queen's company as she goes to visit another kingdom and gets lost in the woods.
She stumbles across this cottage where this dark haired, plant loving, cat owning, book adoring boy lives, and he opens the door and immediately beings to say, "If you're looking for the witch, he lives across the river."
But she cuts him off and is like no no no, I just need a place to stay, and he's like oh, um, ok, you know this is usually how people get killed though right? And she's just like this naive, innocent, precious thing and is like, why would anyone kill me???? Aren't people supposed to be kind and off lost people shelter????
And he's just internally goes, she is precious, I must protect her at all costs.
Now, most people would think this ends in them falling in love, but really, the boy is in love with the witch across the river, but he's too shy to talk to him, so the girl helps him with that.
And the girl falls in love with the librarian from the nearby village, and it's all precious and wholesome and just ahhhh!!!!!
So, who's interested???

Micro story: Read it quickly, very quickly
Tumblr media
It’s a genre of extremely short fictional write-ups, often completed within a couple of sentences.
by Shantanu Guha Ray
Probably encouraged by the fact that book sales are on the decline throughout India, a micro-story platform has come up with a unique effort. It’s called Chota Story, or Tiny Reads, the basic idea is to democratise macro literary aspirations of common people in micro formats. And it is working well. After all, why read more when you can do it in a jiffy, right?
India’s book publishers are facing new challenges that range from increased costs due to inflation, lack of paper for publishing and a smaller readership. Let’s toss some figures here. Around 80% of books in India are published in regional Indian languages, says the Federation of Indian Publishers. And then, an average Indian spends less than Rs 500 on a single book in an Indian language. Yet, the Indian publishing industry is worth Rs 800 billion (as per 2023-24 estimates).
