Burning Hearts: Chapter Nineteen
(AO3 counterpart here.)
“So what do you think?”
Fireheart’s tail tapped nervously as Ravenwing, sitting across from him, lowered his chin in thought. He had been the first cat Fireheart had seen upon returning home, and he had quickly pulled his friend outside of camp to explain the sign.
He couldn’t help but admire how calmly Ravenwing was considering the matter. Fireheart had only gotten more and more anxious as this short amount of time had went on, his mind swarming with nasty interpretations of the silver bell and its markings. By the time he’d reached Ravenwing, deaths and disfigurements crowded his vision.
Ravenwing had listened to the entire story in silence, his ears perked and gaze focused, gradually intensifying until the conclusion. Now, his eyes were narrowed, pupils distantly slim as they shifted from side to side, looking at nothing in front of him. He was still quiet, but his mind was clearly hard at work, untangling the knots and matts Fireheart had presented.
“I think…” Ravenwing said slowly, then paused, lifting his head again. His eyes focused again, troubled. “I think you’re right. This is a Greystripe sign.”
This did not relieve Fireheart any. “What does it mean, though?”
Ravenwing grimaced. “A silver thing that’s battered and scratched up? I can’t imagine anything good.” He stood up. “You know what we should do?”
“Find Greystripe and tell him,” Fireheart said.
Ravenwing nodded.
“He’s probably at the border again.” Fireheart stood up too and started off at a trot, gesturing with a tilt of his head. “Hopefully alone. Come on. I’ll do the talking, if you want me to.”
With a sigh, Ravenwing followed after his shorter friend. “I don’t know if he’ll listen to either of us more than the other. You’re better at this stuff than I am, though. We can try both of us, I guess.”
“Works for me,” Fireheart said, and continued through the chilly forest. He could swear there was some frost blooming on a tree to his right.
Ravenwing caught up to Fireheart after a bit, and was silent for a long moment before asking quietly, “What do you think he’ll say?”
“I imagine he’ll be upset,” Fireheart replied, “but that shouldn’t deter us. Even if he refuses to listen, we need to warn him. If for nothing else, just to say we tried.”
Ravenwing said nothing, but he took in a soft breath out of the corner of Fireheart’s eye.
Nothing else was said on the walk. Fireheart was busy silently rehearsing what he was going to say. He was certain Ravenwing was doing the same thing.
Be patient, be careful, be kind, he repeated to himself. All we can do is try.
The night’s chill made Fireheart shiver multiple times on the trek. It was plucking at his hairs and his pawpads themselves seemed to stiffen with every step on the frigid ground. At the very least, it wasn’t raining right now. Not that that provided much comfort for the pair of warriors.
They reached the border alongside Sunningrocks—empty, thankfully, with only the fishy scent of RiverClan’s marks to accompany Fireheart and Ravenwing as they walked.
“Where did we see them last?” Ravenwing whispered, like it was something he didn’t want to be overheard.
“About halfway down, I think,” Fireheart whispered back. He swiveled his ears for the slightest sound and got nothing but the constant, underlying hissing of the river. No scents or sounds of anyone present… their best chance would be now, with only one cat there to be talked with.
Fireheart chanced a dip along the border and poked his head out of the forest, looking from north to south. Nobody in sight. Perfect.
He rejoined Ravenwing, his footsteps subconsciously softening the further down they went. Ravenwing did the same, until they were both hardly even brushing against any fallen leaves.
Finally, they were a patch of bushes away from the meeting place. Curiously, though they seemed alone, a noise like heaving breath reached them. A few steps closer, and they could catch Greystripe’s scent. Fireheart and Ravenwing looked at each other before a panicked gulp pushed them forward.
They stepped through the brush as silently as they had walked here—that quickly proved unnecessary. Only Greystripe was here, but even so, he looked like he’d been stricken in the chest and was fighting to breathe again. His back legs were flopped onto one side of his haunches, with his front legs splayed out, every clawed toe spread, gripping the forest floor like his life depended on it. His yellow eyes were far away and stretched out more than an owl’s. Every single hair on his body stuck out perfectly perpendicular to whatever body part it was attached to.
Fireheart approached, concern stiffening his spine. “Greystripe? Are you okay?”
Greystripe jolted and twisted his head to stare at Fireheart. His mouth opened and shut multiple times, each time failing to get a noise out.
Ravenwing joined Fireheart, his tail puffing out a bit. “What’s wrong?”
A few more attempts to speak, and then Greystripe gulped down air and rasped, “Pr– Privetclaw was just here.”
His friends said nothing, waiting with growing nervousness.
“He said—” Greystripe shuddered with enough violence to almost fall over completely. “He said Silverstream is in the nursery now.”
Fireheart squinted for a moment before realization hit him and his jaw dropped.
“She’s…” Greystripe gulped again. “Kits. She’s pregnant. And… I think I’m the father.”
Complete silence followed this. Each tom was frozen in place. Not even a bird broke the quiet.
In the end, it was Ravenwing that spoke first, and it was with a calm, flat voice that made Fireheart want to take a step away from him in anticipation.
“You ‘think’, or you ‘know’?” he asked, pronouncing each word like a claw-pluck.
Greystripe didn’t hear the danger. His eyes were far away again. “I… I know. I know. Privetclaw knew too. That’s why– that’s why he told me.”
Fireheart chanced a look at Ravenwing and actually stepped to the side, distancing from the burning air coming off his friend’s body. Ravenwing’s fur bristled, starting from the base of his tail and going along his back, almost up onto his head. His pale claws unsheathed and sank into the soil, and his tail twitched, twitched harder, and then swiped side-to-side.
“You,” he said, growing louder and louder with each word, “are. AN. IDIOT.”
Greystripe looked up, shock replacing the terror.
“A complete idiot!” Ravenwing shouted. “Did you just paw sand over your mind?! You knew from jump exactly how these things always go! You knew that cross-Clan relationships never end well! You KNEW that!”
“Yeah…” Greystripe mumbled, looking down now.
“And yet! And yet! You had the gall to yell at us for warning you!” Ravenwing stepped forward, his back arched. “You just refused to listen to reason, and we tried to help you, but you had to insult us, didn’t you, you UTTER krrok*!”
Part of Fireheart wanted to stop Ravenwing’s tirade, but another part (that was admonishing itself a bit) was taking some dark satisfaction in the guilty shame on Greystripe’s face. He elected to say nothing and let Greystripe take his punishment.
“What even compelled you to get with her?!” Ravenwing continued, his voice reaching the open space of Sunningrocks and echoing to the water. “You couldn’t have just left it at meeting up and whispering sweet-nothings?! Did you really think nothing bad could come from this?!”
Greystripe said nothing. His head hung low enough for his nose to almost touch the ground.
“I swear on the Three—” Ravenwing’s tail was a blur now as he shook his head several times. He turned to Fireheart, who leaned away a bit. “So we might be too late!”
Fireheart’s stomach clenched. “You think so?”
“Depending on what it meant, maybe!”
Greystripe dared to look up now. “What meant what?”
“The sign,” Ravenwing growled. “The sign that Fireheart found tonight.”
Greystripe’s eyes, lit with fear again, went to Fireheart.
He spoke quietly and calmly, and not a little unhappily. “Yellowfang and I were near the Houses, and we saw a grey squirrel burying a silver bell—a little round thing. The bell was pretty badly damaged. Yellowfang knew it was a sign, but she didn’t know what for.” His ears folded back. “But I’m sure we can guess.”
Fear returned to terror. Greystripe looked between the pair almost pleadingly, like they could give him reassurances that everything would be fine. Neither of them did. He sunk to his belly, shaking a little.
“I screwed up,” he choked out.
Fireheart nodded sadly.
“You sure did,” Ravenwing snapped. “Now you and Silverstream are going to be in massive trouble, whether or not you get found out. Good job.”
Now was the time to step in. Fireheart reached out with a paw and gently touched Ravenwing’s leg. He looked over in surprise, greeted by Fireheart’s soft warning expression. A blink, a flinch, and his rage dissipated like mist in the sun. He was Ravenwing again, anxious and uncertain, and he now stared at Greystripe in a near-panicked state, his words visibly washing over him.
Greystripe did not appear to notice this change. He just turned his head to gaze out across the river. “I… I don’t know what to do.”
Fireheart cleared his throat quietly. “Well, the first thing is to stop seeing Silverstream.”
To his surprise and immense relief, Greystripe just nodded distantly. “Yeah, that… yeah.” He shuddered out a sigh. “I’m an idiot.”
Fireheart gave Ravenwing a look, but Ravenwing was silent. Like Greystripe before, he was busy just trying to force words out of his mouth to begin with. Fireheart was about to speak instead when Greystripe turned his head back to them, his eyes now dim with defeat.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
Ravenwing and Fireheart blinked in unison.
“For– you know.” Greystripe gestured aimlessly. “Being a colossal prick. And a krrok. You were right. Sorry.”
What anger Fireheart had in his system melted away and dispersed from his feet to the leaves below them. “It’s fine.”
“No, it isn’t,” Greystripe said to Fireheart, though his eyes were on Ravenwing. “I ruined everything with Silverstream and I nearly ruined everything with you two because I’m stupid.” His face turned anxious. “Or, I hope it was ‘nearly’.”
Both of them watched Ravenwing now, apprehensively waiting for his deliberation. Ravenwing, eyes distant, set his jaw, took in a deep breath, and relaxed his fur again.
“Just nearly,” he said with a blink.
Greystripe let out a relieved sound that was more of a wheeze than a sigh. Fireheart felt it too.
“You’re still in trouble if those kits look like you,” Ravenwing added, “if she does end up having them at all. She can try sending them back, can’t she?”
The relief left Greystripe’s face, his eyes sagging again. “I don’t know. Is that a thing you can force?”
“What thing?” Fireheart asked. “Isn’t she having kits?”
“Maybe,” Ravenwing said, contemplative now. “Sometimes an expecting queen will stop expecting. The kittens in her just… go away. I’m not sure what the exact cause could be. It just happens sometimes.”
Fireheart frowned. “What happens to their souls, then?”
“They get sent into another body to try again,” Ravenwing said.
“Oh. Is that StarClan’s doing?”
“Could be. The stories on that stuff are pretty vague.” Ravenwing grimaced. “Cats usually don’t like talking about it.”
Fireheart’s thoughts zipped over to the Houses, to Rosy’s house where she no doubt was being kept inside. What if her kits go away too? She’d be devastated. Is StarClan in charge of them?
“I don’t think you can make it happen on purpose,” Greystripe said, shaking Fireheart out of his thoughts. “She’ll probably try, but… I don’t know.” He slowly got to his feet, steadier than before. “All I know is that if they look like me, she’s going to be in a lot of trouble that even Crookedstar couldn’t get her out of.”
Ravenwing’s ears flattened. “And you’ll be in trouble, too.”
“I don’t really care about that part.” Greystripe rolled a shoulder listlessly. “I mean, it won’t be great, but I’m more worried about her and my kits. Stars, I hope they just look like her. They can get away with being big if they just have her colors and face.”
There was a moment of silence, each tom lost in his own worries, before Fireheart spoke up. “What will happen to them if the truth comes out? They won’t be, like, forced out of the Clan or anything, will they?”
“No!” Greystripe balked. “No. No Clan is that cruel. But… she might get shunned for a long time.” He paused, twitching an ear. “Actually, she told me something like this happened before she was born. She didn’t want to talk about it, but she said it eventually worked out for her Clan. Maybe it’ll work out for us, too.”
“You don’t really believe that, do you?” Ravenwing asked quietly.
Greystripe sighed and hung his head again. “No. We’re feather-plucked.”
“Well, let’s not panic,” Fireheart said quickly. “Silverstream’s pregnant, that’s all we have. Does anyone else know about you and her? Are they going to tell on her?”
“A friend or two might know. Privetclaw sounded like he does.” Greystripe’s tail puffed out. “That’s probably why he doesn’t like me. He’s not good at hiding that.”
“And the chances of them saying anything?”
“Low, I think,” Greystripe said. “I hope.”
Ravenwing perked up. “Well, remember, queens don’t have to say who the father of their litter is. Maybe their matriarch will ask, but no one gets to bully her about it.”
“Oh—“ Greystripe looked up and nodded eagerly. “Yes, right. If she keeps it between us, and if StarClan is kind, they can all go without knowing anything.”
“Including the kits?” Fireheart tilted his head. “Shouldn’t they know who they are?”
“Not if it’s going to hurt them,” Ravenwing said.
“Kits go without knowing their father all the time,” Greystripe agreed. “They don’t have to know about anything. Not this whole thing, not me.” His face fell a little. “Though I would like to know them. Someday.”
Fireheart gave him a sympathetic nod. “Well, let’s not focus on the future just yet. Give Silverstream time to… ‘send them back’?” He looked at Ravenwing, who nodded. “Send them back, yeah. And if she has them, then we deal with that later.”
Greystripe’s ears pricked. “‘We’?”
“Well, yeah,” Fireheart said. “We’re not dumping you or anything.” He gave Greystripe a cheeky look. “You did apologize.”
Ravenwing twitched his whiskers. “You did do that.”
If it was possible, Greystripe looked even more relieved than earlier. He gave each of them a grateful look and hesitantly stepped forward, lowering his head submissively. Fireheart met him with a headbump—a very gentle one for Greystripe—and Ravenwing did the same.
“So let’s get out of here before someone finds us,” Fireheart said cheerfully. “We have some hunting to catch up on. And stars know your scent needs to fade.”
Greystripe snorted and Ravenwing purred. Fireheart beckoned with his tail and led the two further into the woods, keeping at a brisk pace until the river could no longer be heard behind them.
  *”Krrok”: outrageously stupid cat, an idiot beyond idiots.

Chapter 19 has been released! It came out later than usual, but it did make it. Inside, we see Danny getting stitched up and getting some much-needed advice from his dad.
Wednesday will be a double feature! I'll be posting chapter 20 for Passion and my Valentine's Core Exchange fanfic! Well, the first chapter of it, anyway! So, even though Passion is ending soon, you can look forward to updates for the new fic to tide you over until the 1st of June, when I'll be doing regular Bittersweet Future updates for Arc Three.
There's still time to get on the Passion train before it ends! Need some convincing? Have a sample of the story below:
The sting of the open air on his wounds kept him grounded. Every time he wanted to slip away from the present moment of anxiety and worry, retreat to some place where the last hour hadn’t happened, he’d breathe. The muscles between his collarbone and lower ribs stretched and flexed with every inhaled breath, skin pulled farther apart and then squeezed together by the pumping of his lungs. He’d laid down on top of his bed, over a towel, and waited. The cuts were too deep, the area too broad, for him to stitch himself. Jazz was coming. His sister was downstairs, pretending to study, helping maintain the sense of normalcy needed to convince their parents he was uninjured. His blood cooled a sticky combination of bright red and green, webs of ectoplasm stretching along the surface of the wounds, trying to pull them closed. It worked much better than his human blood’s clotting factor, flexible enough to move with his breathing, but tight enough to continually pull the frayed edges of his torn flesh closer with each passing second. It would make stitching easier. It always did.
Still, if he tried to raise his arms—twist to stitch himself—he’d just tear and re-open everything. So, he waited. He listened to the slugging of the water through the house’s pipes, the pattering of the branches against his window, felt the slimy sensation of blood leaking down his ribs, and waited. He was laying too flat for vertigo to harm him, even as he started spinning slowly while laying completely still, but if Jazz could hurry the fuck up, that’d be great. He hissed as he flexed a little to raise his head and look at the time. It’d only been another minute; it just felt like an eternity.
“ Sorry Danny,” the door closed with a quiet tap, “I had to wait for them to go back into the lab.”
“ No worries, not like I could go anywhere.” He heard her hissed intake of breath, could imagine the horrified looking expression to accompany it. “It smells like a butcher shop in here, and I look like an incompletely done up rack of ribs, but all of that is just dramatic window dressing. I’ll be fine.”
“ Where’s the first aid kit?”
“ By my desk, it was a bitch and a half getting it from under the bathroom sink. We should hide it someplace that requires less bending and reaching.” He waved his hand vaguely in the direction of his desk chair, where he’d placed the plastic box, and focused on his breathing. The room was spinning more, and the feeling of hanging near the ceiling was kicking in.

19. A FEW ERRANDS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE NEXT DAY, BELLA ASKED ME TO GO WITH HER WHILE JACOB and Renesmee went to Charlie's place. I didn't know what it was about but it must be something important for Bella. Whatever it was, good or bad, she needed me to be there.
I sat at the back with Renesmee and Bella was getting inside Edward's Volvo. I watched Renesmee, who looked at the house and eagerly waiting for Jacob. She got on a brown coat with grey leggings and brown boots.
"Hey, Ness," I said, making her small head turn to me. "You excited to see your grandpa?"
Renesmee nodded and placed her hand on my cheek. She often did this to communicate with others.
"Where are you and Momma going?" She asked me in my head.
I shrugged my shoulders and Renesmee removed her hand. "I don't know," I answered. "Maybe it's a surprise."
"Why can't we take your Ferrari?" Jacob complained when he met Bella in the garage; she got inside the Volvo with us.
"Too conspicuous," Bella answered. "We could go on foot, but that would freak Charlie out."
"She does have a point," I agreed.
Jacob grumbled but got into the front seat. Renesmee climbed from my lap to his.
"How are you?" Bella asked him as she pulled out of the garage.
"How do you think?" Jacob asked bitingly. "I'm sick of all these reeking bloodsuckers." He saw our sour expression and spoke before we could answer. "Yeah, I know, I know. They're the good guys, they're here to help, they're going to save us all. Etcetera, etcetera. Say what you want, I still think Dracula One and Dracula Two are creep-tacular."
Bella and I smiled widely at his comment. The Romanians weren't my favorite guests, especially what they did to Dad and Joseph.
"I don't disagree with you there," Bella said.
"I'd drink to that," I replied.
Renesmee shook her head but said nothing; unlike the rest of us, she found the Romanians strangely fascinating. I don't know why she would think that but she's a kid. Kids found anything fascinating. She'd made the effort to speak to them aloud since they would not let her touch them. Her question was about their unusual skin and, worrying that they might be offended by her question, I was kinda curious to know.
They hadn't seemed upset by her interest. Maybe a little rueful.
"We sat still for a very long time, child," Vladimir had answered, with Stefan nodding along but not continuing Vladimir's sentences as he often did.
"Contemplating our own divinity. It was a sign of our power that everything came to us. Prey, diplomats, those seeking our favor. We sat on our thrones and
thought ourselves gods. We didn't notice for a long time that we were changing— almost petrifying. I suppose the Volturi did us one favor when they burned our castles. Stefan and I, at least, did not continue to petrify. Now the Volturi's eyes are filmed with dusty scum, but ours are bright. I imagine that will give us an advantage when we gouge theirs from their sockets."
Bella tried to keep Renesmee away from them after that. And I didn't blame her. Then, their words echoed in my head.
"We hope that this controversy caused by the child will finally destroy the Volturi."
"Are willing to lose your coven —?"
"The same way we lost ours?"
"You think apologising will change anything?"
"Well, if the child is not going to destroy the Volturi, then perhaps she will."
"How long do we get to hang out with Charlie?" Jacob asked, interrupting my thoughts.
I took a breath in, trying to calm myself from their words. Jacob seemed to be visibly relaxing as we pulled away from the house.
"For quite a while, actually," Bella replied.
The tone of her voice caught his attention.
"Is something going on here besides visiting your dad?"
"Jake, you know how you're pretty good at controlling your thoughts around Edward?"
He raised one thick black brow. "Yeah? Considering you're taking Violet with you?"
"Yeah, why did you want me to go with you?" I asked, my voice curious.
"Just spending some time. Catching up, you know."
She just nodded, cutting her eyes to Renesmee. I looked over to her and she was looking out the window like any kid would do in the car. I couldn't tell how interested she was in this conversation, but it didn't go further.
Jacob waited for any of us to add something else, and then his lower lip pushed out while he thought about what little we'd said.
As we drove in silence, Bella squinted through the annoying contacts into the cold rain. I looked at the window to see droplets trailing on the it. It wasn't quite cold enough for snow. I noticed that my eyes were as bright as they had been in the beginning—definitely closer to a shiny glowing gold than yellowish brown.
Jacob was still chewing over the truncated conversation when we got to Charlie's. We didn't talk as we walked at a quick human pace through the falling rain. Charlie was waiting for us; he had the door open before Bella could knock.
"Hey, guys! It seems like it's been years! Look at you, Nessie! Come to Grampa! I swear you've grown half a foot. And you look skinny, Ness." He glared at me.
"Aren't they feeding you up there?"
"It's just the growth spurt," I muttered. "Hey, Sue," I called over his shoulder. The smell of chicken, tomato, garlic, and cheese issued from the kitchen; it probably smelled good to everyone else. I could also smell fresh pine and packing dust.
Renesmee flashed her dimples. She didn't spoke in front of Charlie.
"Well, come on in out of the cold, kids. Where's my son-in-law?"
"Entertaining friends," Jacob said, and then snorted. "You're so lucky you're out of the loop, Charlie. That's all I'm going to say."
Bella punched Jacob lightly in the kidney while Charlie cringed and I chuckled.
"Ow," Jacob complained under his breath.
"Better her than me," I whispered to him, making him shrug it off.
"Actually, Charlie, I have some errands to run," Bella said and Jacob shot a glance at me but said nothing.
"Behind on your Christmas shopping, Bells? You only have a few days, you know."
"Yeah, Christmas shopping," she said lamely.
Charlie then looked over to me. "Hey, Violet," he said. "I don't know if Ayla told but I was wondering if you would like to come over for Christmas?"
"I would like to," I answered simply.
"That's great," he smiled. "Oh, and Leah invited Ethan to come over. And she said you know him?"
"Well, he's..." I tried to think of a good story. Then, I thought about a lie about me being a student at Oxford. "He's my friend from Oxford."
"He went to the same class as you?"
"Some but we hang out afterward."
He nodded and looked down at Renesmee.
"Don't worry, Nessie," he whispered in her ear. "I got you covered if your mom drops the ball."
I rolled my eyes at him, but in truth, I hadn't thought about the holidays at all.
"Lunch's on the table," Sue called from the kitchen. "C'mon, guys."
"See you later, Dad," Bella said, and exchanged a quick look with Jacob.
"Bye, Charlie, bye Sue," I said as well. "Bye, guys."
They waved at us as we got into the Volvo. Bella started the engine and drove off. Once the house disappeared from our sight, Bella began to drive faster. We sat in silent for a moment until I saw her hands gripping onto the steering wheel as if she was holding on for dear life.
"Bella?" I asked with concern in my voice. "Are you okay? You just seem a bit... tense?"
Bella bit her lip and relaxed. She inhaled deeply as her amber eyes looked on at the road.
"It's Alice," she said, sighing.
This caught my attention. "What about her?"
"She had a vision of the Volturi coming to us,"  Bella explained. "I'm sure you notice that she and Jasper hasn't come back."
I just nodded. I did notice that they hadn't come back. Yet why was that?
"Before they left, Alice wrote a message for us, saying we need to gather witnesses before the snow hits the ground."
"Why?" I was confused by her.
"That's when they'll come," Bella answered grimly. "Then I realised that she wrote it on a torn paper from a book: THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. On the other side, it said the address at Seattle and a name."
"Wait, Seattle?" I sounded surprised.
This place was where I unknowingly spent my final days as a human.

April 15th Chapter Nineteen
AO3
Heart thumping, one hand tucked tightly onto his arm, the other supporting her baby bump, she approaches the ship.
It’s hulking bulk towers over the water. The crew scurry like ants as they prepare for it’s launch. The water lapping against side sounds like the sounds of the dying that still haunt her dreams.
“I have you.” Jamie wraps his arm tighter around her. His other arm holds Fergus. “I will not allow anything happen to you or our children.”
They know, from talking to the ship’s officers that there are enough life boats and life jackets for everyone sailing. It is one of the positive outcomes of the Titanic tragedy.
She squeezes his arm. There is safely found in his presence.
Mary and Hazel, the young girl talking excitingly, follow them. Mary has never been on a ship and shares Claire ‘s trepidation. She smiles down at her daughter. Her excitement won’t be tempered by her mum’s worry.
“Lord and Lady Fraser, Mistress Hawkins.” The head Stewart greets them with a bow.
They are lead to their cabins. Mary and Hazel’s are right by the Frasers. Fergus is fully weaned and knows Claire as his mama. Jamie arranged to have Mary and her daughter by then, instead of in a second class cabin, because he considers them a part of his family and wants them close enough to protect them, if there is need.
“A month. We will be in Scotland in a month, right?”
He sits the toddling Fergus down and takes his wife ‘s hands in his. He moves his eyes around until they capture hers. “Aye, and then we will be in Scotland, at Lallybroch, with our family.”
“Our family.” Softly repeated. Fergus toddled up and grabs her skirts. He smiles at his son who gives him a giggling smile back.
“Aye. You and the children will be safe there. I swear it.” He takes a breath before continuing “I love you. They will as well.”
It is the first time he said it aloud. In English anyway. She feels her heart give a mighty thump and her throat close up with tears.
“I,” a second to swallow and clear her throat, “I love you too. You are home to me.”
Their lips come together in a passionate kiss that their son’s tugs interrupt.

19. THE WEDDING
Tumblr media
THE DAY HAD ARRIVED. MY FRIEND WAS ABOUT TO GET MARRIED. WE LEFT twelve hours early for the airport; luckily, the sky was covered with clouds so our skins won't be sparkling when we got there. I hated that revelation. Gabriel did book the hotels where we could get change (plus it would be uncomfortable wearing heels on the plane).
We got to the plane and got into our seats. It was a first-class seating area.
"You grew up in Forks, right?" Rhona asked and I nodded. "So, for you, this is like a welcome home treat."
"Yeah," I said and placed my suitcase on the holder. "Home..."
Maybe I should see and get Ayla. After all, I did make her a promise. After the wedding, I'll go get her. That was my plan.
When we arrived in Forks, it was like a homecoming for me. I hadn't been gone for long but it felt like an eternity. It still had the cool summer breezes in August every year. It felt really strange that I came to my place of origin after three months away. And yet I missed London more.
We appeared at the Cullens household and I could smell the humans present. Thank goodness for self-control. Gabriel knocked on the door and it opened, revealing Carlisle. He wore a black suit with a white shirt underneath it. Carlisle welcomed us with a warm smile.
"Hello, again," Carlisle greeted and hugged Gabriel. "It's been a while."
"Just four months," Gabriel commented.
Then, Carlisle looked at Rhona. A huge smile emerged on her face and hugged him immediately.
"It's so nice seeing you after all these years!" She beamed happily as Carlisle returned her hug. "It's been so long!"
"I know," he said after he was done hugging her. He turned his golden eyes on me and smiled. "Hello, Violet. I see your eyes are amber now."
"I got used to the diet," I replied to him, remembering what he said to me. You'll get used to the diet.”
"I'm glad. How are you doing?"
"I'm pretty good."
Carlisle greeted the rest of the coven before he allowed us into his home. He told us that the wedding was in the back garden. There were many humans there and we spotted the rest of the Cullens with another vampire coven. There was classical music playing in the background.
I couldn't help but get nervous around other people, especially when they were in crowded areas. The anxiety rose within me as I breathed heavily.
"You okay, Violet?" Simon asked.
Crap! I think he noticed that. Just play cool.
I nodded my head when four vampires came to us: Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper and Alice. Looked like I was saved there.
"Hi, all!" Alice greeted us in her cheerful way and hugged me.
I cringed as she hugged me tightly with her slim arms. She released me as Alice continued to smile at us.
"I'm glad you all made it in time," she said with joy.
"Well, we wouldn't want to miss it," Gabriel said back as Alice kept hugging the rest of the coven.
"I love what you did," Helena complimented.
"It's all Alice's ideas," Jasper replied. "And vision."
"I'm not surprised," Joseph added.
Then, Emmett spotted me and smiled. "Wow, Violet. You've got amber eyes now."
"That's what happened when you drink animal blood, sweetie," Rosalie gave him a cheek.
"Just a few steps closer to having gold eyes," Ethan chuckled.
As my family were chatting with the Cullens and the other coven, I watched the white roses dangling from their vines as I got more nervous by the minute. What if someone I knew discovered that I was a vampire? What would be my final reason? And I knew I couldn't ruin Bella's wedding over my anxiety. I sat down by my family as we waited for the wedding to begin. Then, I overheard familiar voices.
"They have got to be related."
Eric Yorkie.
"What a gene pool."
Mike Newton.
"You've got some... The drool. So, you think Bella's gonna be showing?"
Jessica Stanley.
"Jess, she is not pregnant."
Angela Webster.
Crap! They were at the wedding too. I just hoped that they don't see me. And if they did, how will they react to me? Would they look at my eyes and saw that my eyes weren't brown anymore, only to be replaced by amber? Would they see that my skin had gone even paler?
Quick, Violet, think!
Then, I remembered. I had that power so I could easily use it. I saw the groom waiting at the altar for his bride to come down.
"I wish Violet was here," I heard Jessica mutter.
"You know that she's missing, not dead," Eric said.
"But do you think it would be better if she's dead?"
My heart was crushed.
"Jess, why would you say that?" Angela gasped.
"I mean after all her family went through," Jessica added to her reason.
What was she talking about? Gavin and Dina didn't acknowledge my disappearance. Unless Ayla did it. She must have done it. She was the only one who cared about me.
Then, I heard the tune of 'Here Comes the Bride'. The wedding had begun.
I got up with the guest and saw Bella in her beautiful white-sleeved dress and gripping into her dad for dear life. She arrived in front of her fiancé and we sat down on our seats.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the minister began. "We are gathered here on this glorious day to witness the union of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Please repeat after me. I, Edward Cullen."
"I, Edward Cullen," the groom spoke first.
"Take you, Bella Swan."
Edward repeated.
"To have and to hold... For better or for worse... For richer, for poorer... In sickness and in health... To love... To cherish... As long as we both shall live."
Bella repeated the same words from the minister.
"Do you, Edward Cullen, take Bella Swan to be your lawfully wedded wife?" He asked.
"I do," the groom replied.
"Do you, Bella Swan, take Edward Cullen to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do," the bride answered.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife."
They kissed and everyone, including me, stood and clapped for the newlyweds.

Can You Imagine? XIX
A/N: FINALLY another update- I feel like most of my author's notes start out that way XD Still, I haven't abandoned this, an am consistently working still on it, Not Today, and One Swallow Can Make A Summer, so I'm hoping to get on a schedule of posting a chapter a week, rotating which fic gets updated each week! Next on the list will be an update for Not Today, and then we should be on a good schedule. So stay tuned for those updates if you're interested- otherwise, I hope you enjoy this (very late) update! Skål!
Summary: Freydis was dead. At least, when she’d lost consciousness, she’d been sure she was. But now she has woken up in a cold, sterile environment, one she is certain is not Valhalla, and the world as she once knew it has changed. People now have strange abilities, some of them, and people they call ‘scientists’ are trying to give them to her. The bigger issue, though, is the fact they have also woken the very man who killed her. Ivar the Boneless lives again as well, in the same way Freydis does, and if they want to survive... she may have to learn to trust him again.

Seize the Moment and Stay In It
Leaving Ivar behind hadn’t been in Freydís’s plans.  Björn, she hadn’t ever even intended to pick up, but this was another game entirely now. She was spiralling out of control, and she’d hurt Ivar simply for interrupting her. What kind of a wife did that? Hadn’t she been upset with Ivar for hurting her? For behaving toward her as no husband should? What kind of a hypocrite was she, to hurt him now?
You aren’t a hypocrite though, are you? Not really, a quiet voice whispered in her mind. The presence had returned, once again just behind her, but when Freydís now tried to look, she thought she saw some kind of dark shape quickly escape her peripherals, hiding behind her again as it laughed quietly. You cannot see me, it told her. Not like this.
“Can I see you?” Freydís asked the voice, her eyes slipping shut as she tried to call the figure it came from into view.
Not like this, it repeated. You know how.
It surprised her to find that she did know how. Her eyes glowed red as she began to levitate in the air, her body tilting back as if in a bed. She fell asleep.
When her eyes opened in that space from before, where the ground was cracked beneath her feet, with something glowing beneath. Now, Freydís was able to recognise it for what it was- that is, that it was magic, just the same as the magic she possessed. What exactly this place was, she still wasn’t sure, but she felt more connected to it now. It felt somehow more comfortable now.
The voice was no longer just that, as the same figure which had met her here before walked out from behind her, still just as mysterious, hooded and hiding her face. “See?” she said, seeming rather smug. “You did know how to see me.” Freydís rolled her eyes, unable to help herself.
“I did,” she replied. “But we’ve spoken like this before.”
The figure hummed and chuckled softly. “We have,” she confirmed. “But I think you have called me here for a purpose haven’t you? What is it you wanted with me?”
Freydís swallowed a bit. The truth was that she had wanted to ask something of this figure which was always with her, but how she had known that… It was baffling, at best. At worst? Outright concerning. “I don’t know where to go from here,” she confessed. “I mean, I do know, but I can’t do it.”
“You must,” the figure advised. “If you won’t, everything is lost. Surely a few moments of their pain will be forgiven? Ivar has done far worse to you, and they have done far worse to each other. Why not take this chance for all of you? For those in the future who you will save from this fate you are already suffering?”
“Then you are saying that this sacrifice is necessary for the greater good?” Freydís questioned for clarity’s sake. The figure nodded.
“I am afraid so,” it replied, and stepped forward, brushing a hand through Freydís ’s hair. “There is no other choice if you wish to put an end to the schemes of those who wish to play at weaving fate.”
Freydís nodded reluctantly, and took in a deep breath which she let out slowly. “Then I have work to do,” she almost whispered. The figure hummed, and then suddenly Freydís was waking, and she adjusted so she would land on her feet when she returned to the ground.
It was a dreadful thing, realizing what she had to do to her husband and his brother. But if she was going to find the information she needed from either Dr. Schmidt or Professor Andersen, she wasn’t sure she had much of a choice. So, she began the work of preparing her space, creating little fires all around herself in a circle by burning various sticks and leaves. Then, laying out her book in front of herself, she began to write the runes around herself which would allow her access to the right minds- even as wrong as it felt.
Her search began, seeking out the paths she needed to make it through to Ivar or  Björn- whichever she got to first. They both had that final connection, she was almost certain of it, and if  Björn didn’t for some reason then she was certain that Ivar would, and  Björn would have the connection to Ivar. They were the final pieces of the puzzle.
Being entirely alone meant that there was nothing to break her focus or her concentration, and that made the process all the quicker and more painless for those she had already been through. They would barely notice anything, aside from perhaps being reminded of what had happened the first time she passed through their minds. This being the first time she was connecting to either Ivar or  Björn, however, they would feel the full force of the spell, only to be relieved once she had finally reached her ultimate target. She just hoped they’d recover well enough.
When the spell finally reached Ivar, Freydís crawled her way into his mind just as she had with every other mind before his, and he cried out from shock at the sudden sight of her, and pain from the violence of the action. But that wasn’t the only shock- not by far. What shocked him beyond that was how grey her skin had become, the deep black around her glowing red eyes. Her teeth seemed almost like fangs as she cried out at the effort it must have taken to get into his mind. Not to mention how thin her fingers had become, looking more and more like ink dipped claws than anything else. What had happened to her? What had happened to his wife?
By the time she left, Ivar suddenly could see his surroundings again, and it was only then that he realised he had lost sight of anything but his own mind until then.  Björn was kneeling at his side, but it did little to soothe Ivar, who was shaking and suddenly very, very cold.
“Was it Freydís ?”  Björn asked, and Ivar managed to look at him, his heart pounding wildly in his chest. But still, he managed a nod. “What did she do?”
“I don’t know exactly,” Ivar answered, trying now to sit up. “She came into my mind, and…” A chill ran through him. “She didn’t look like herself anymore.”
 Björn opened his mouth as if to answer Ivar, when suddenly he too cried out, and collapsed to the ground. His hands came to his head and he clutched at it, screaming from whatever pain he must have been in. If she was doing to him what she’d done to Ivar, then he knew the pain  Björn was in. Ivar grimaced a bit at the thought.
Unfortunately, all he was able to do was wait for  Björn to come back. Or, rather, for Freydís to release him the spell she had captured his mind in. Whatever it was she wanted, she had needed them both to find it, and then apparently she had it as  Björn seemed to snap back into reality. He looked up at Ivar, eyes wide with horror.
“You’ve seen her,” Ivar surmised, and  Björn nodded slowly.
“What has happened to her?” he questioned, barely getting the words out as he tried to shake off the pain.
Ivar swallowed, his eyes clouding with regret, along with many other things- one of which was grief. “That book,” he said. “I think she has gone too far into it, and it’s corrupting her beyond what we could have ever imagined.”
 Björn was quiet. Ivar could tell he was thinking hard, which he may once have teased him for, but now he couldn’t find the levity to do so. Eventually,  Björn asked him, “What do you think she was looking for?”
Well, Ivar certainly didn’t struggle to answer that. After everything they had been through, unless there was some sort of memory of Kattegat she sought, there was really only one thing that bound her and Ivar to  Björn. That facility which had raised them from the dead, where she and her husband had first met Doctor Schmidt and Professor Andersen; where they had first been reconciled with each other.
“The facility we were kept in,” he said to  Björn. “She wants a way in. My memories of jt aren’t quite enough, we have mostly the same memories, but yours… They trusted you more than they ever trusted us. My mind was just her link to you.”
“We should warn them,”  Björn said, staggering to his feet quickly as he now had a mission in mind, but Ivar shook his head.
“No, they deserve whatever she would do to them,” he decided. “I won’t save those who have caused us pain, not when they will cause that same pain to others.”
 Björn huffed in irritation. “Then what do you suggest we do?” he questioned sharply.
Ivar’s answer was simple, but first, he needed information from  Björn. “You do know the way in?” he asked.  Björn nodded. “Then we meet her there. Those people deserve whatever she would give them, but I cannot let her repeat my mistakes. I fear we would never get her back.”
He could tell  Björn was unsettled at the prospect- at all of it, really- but he could also see that  Björn was resigned to this. “We needed to get in anyway,” he figured. “May as well let her help us.”
May as well let her help us…
Ivar couldn’t help but wonder when his wife had become someone he and his brother, the legendary Ivar the Boneless and Björn Ironside, feared. What would they call her when history told their story? Their names were known already, but she had only once been Queen Freydís , defined by her marriage to him. The image of her eyes still burned in his mind, glowing red as she showed her power. No, she wouldn’t be Queen Freydís any longer. He thought something along the lines of Freydís the Scarlet was far more appropriate, now. He figured they’d see exactly why when they met her again.
Unfortunately, time would prove Ivar right. When Freydís arrived, she had the information she’d taken from  Björn’s mind floating around in her own. That meant it was easy enough for her to get in, but it could only get her so far. What she had was a map now, essentially, but she didn’t have anything near an already cleared path into the facility.
She made surprisingly quick work of detonating any firearms pointed at her, turning the blasts back on them once they’d been fired. It wasn’t long before witnesses stopped trying to fire on her, knowing what she would do, but she hadn’t gone to spare those working in that facility. Freydís had gone for blood.
The hallways were flooded with red light as she fought through, alarms blaring in her ears to call out, ‘Invasion! Intruder! Danger!’ in their own high pitched, squealing ways, but Freydís didn’t stop. The warnings were about her, and were proven necessary when she wrapped magic around the throat of one of the guards, and used it to sever his head from his body with a single pop! The nearby guards gasped and cried out from shock as she then made his body turn on them, lifting his gun and firing a quick round. Their screams fell silent as she dropped him, and stepped over their corpses.
Her face now coated in a smattering of blood, Freydís stalked through the halls. The gunfire must have been significant enough a warning, because everything had gone still. No defenders rushed out to meet her, push her back and out. Anyone left had hidden, which meant she now had full access to the entire facility. Perfect.
Freydís stalked through the halls, searching each door for what she knew she needed. Any door that was locked to her, she simply decreed was not, and so every door was open to her. Eventually, she found what she had been looking for.
Doctor Schmidt was the first to face her. “Freydís,” she said. “Before you do anything rash…”
“Anything rash?” she repeated, laughing in the woman’s face. “Believe me, I am being perfectly reasonable.” Without waiting on an answer, Freydís reached out and took Doctor Schmidt by the throat, lifting her almost violently into the air.
She heard a familiar gasp of, “Freydís !” and turned to see Professor Andersen standing there, his eyes wide with fear as he looked at the two women before him.
“Ah, hello,” she said with a cold chuckle. “I don’t suppose you can help me, can you? I’m looking for information, about those you have brought back from the dead like myself, like my husband, and  Björn Ironside. Do you have it?”
Professor Andersen opened his mouth to answer her, but Doctor Schmidt hissed out, “Give her nothing.”
Unfortunately for them, Freydís ’s mind worked quickly. She figured that Doctor Schmidt was willing to pay with her own life, if it meant keeping these secrets from her, but what about the life of another? Would she sacrifice Professor Andersen to the same end? She suddenly dropped Doctor Schmidt in favor of lifting Professor Andersen in the same fashion, deciding to find out.
“Do you still wish to give me nothing, Doctor?” Freydís asked, looking back to her. “Now Professor Andersen’s life is on the line, will you give him up to save your secrets?”
Doctor Schmidt swallowed, but her eyes hardened. “Kill him,” she said. “I won’t tell you anything.”
Freydís turned to look at Professor Andersen, whose wide eyes reflected the betrayal he felt at Doctor Schmidt’s words. “And would you give your life for her secrets?” she asked him. “Or do you want to give me the information I seek, and save yourself?”
Before he had the chance to answer, the most familiar voice yet yelled, “Freydís , put him down!” She turned to see Ivar and  Björn rushing in, horror written across their faces. Ah, so they had seen what she’d done to get this far. Oh well, she supposed that couldn’t be helped.
“Why should I?” she questioned. “You know what they did to us, to others like us. Why should I give them any mercy now?”
She watched Ivar swallow, noticed how  Björn kept an eye out, likely to be sure no one snuck up on them, and she tried to keep an eye out herself, as well. “Because you won’t ever come back from this,” Ivar told her. “I have always admired you for the path you never took. Don’t take it now.” Freydís turned back up to look at Professor Andersen, the fear he regarded her with, and even as a dark voice whispered in her ear to snap his neck, she remembered a night from over a thousand years before. She’d had this sort of fear when Ivar took her by the throat, when she had demanded to know what he’d done with Baldur.
Her magic weakened around him suddenly, and she let him drop to the ground. As soon as she did, she heard Doctor Schmidt scoff, “I knew you wouldn’t have it in you.”
“Did you?” Professor Andersen asked her, around each breath he managed to take through his choking. “Did you know? Or did you know there was a risk?”
“Of course I knew,” she said, but Freydís ’s eyes narrowed a bit.
“You’re lying,” she accused. “You couldn’t have known. I did not know myself until I released him.”
Doctor Schmidt huffed, as if irritated with all this. “Alright,” she said. “I knew there was a risk. But it was a necessary risk.”
Professor Andersen shook his head a little. “I wouldn’t have taken that risk,” he confessed. “Even though you told me not to tell her anything, I still would have done it if it would have kept her from killing you.” He took a deep breath, then stood to his feet as he looked to  Björn, Ivar, and Freydís in turn. “But I won’t let my loyalty stay in the wrong place,” he told them. “I’ll give you everything you need.”
Freydís was stunned, but she wasn’t about to question his sudden change in heart. “You’ve made the right decision,” she said, and when he nodded, she saw no hesitation in his eyes. She felt no lie in his heart, when she looked, and she nodded in return.
They left Doctor Schmidt behind- Freydís ,  Björn, Ivar, and Professor Andersen- to go down the hall to what seemed to be an archive of sorts. There, Freydís watched as their guide went into a drawer to pull out a thumbdrive, which he then plugged into one of the computers. She kept an eye on everything he did to be sure all he downloaded to it was the information they needed, no trackers or anything of the sort. Fortunately, it seemed he did exactly as he was meant to, and was soon handing the thumbdrive over to her.
“It doesn’t have any sort of lock on it so you won’t end up without access,” he said, “but that does mean you need to be careful not to-”
“Not to lose it,” she finished for him, and nodded. “Thank you, Professor.”
Professor Andersen nodded in return as he released the thumbdrive, which Freydís pocketed and stepped back. “Good luck.”
“You too,” Freydís said. She didn’t imagine there was any version of this where Doctor Schmidt didn’t retaliate against him for what he’d done, and it was for that reason that she really appreciated his assistance. Doctor Schmidt had expected him to die for their research just as she had been prepared to, but he made a different call. He’d turned the tide in their favor in that moment.
With little else to say, Freydís turned back to  Björn and Ivar, and the two looked to her for their next step. Seeing they were ready to go, she turned and put out her hands, magic flowing out from them and pouring into a sort of cloud that hovered before them. She stepped through, expecting for them to follow. As soon as they were, she closed the portal to shut the facility behind them. They would soon reach the end of their efforts now, and it would only be a matter of time.

Chapter Nineteen: Gray Fullbuster
Lucy walked through Crocus, a blue and pink box full of cupcakes in her hands. She was making her way to make a delivery. She turned a corner before she looked around, feeling a bit safer by the fact that she was surrounded by people. She looked down at the box in her hands and sighed, furrowing her brow as she reminded herself that this was her last delivery. After that day, she would no longer be working for Minnie.
She looked around at her surroundings as she remembered her earlier conversation with Minnie.
Lucy was curled up in the fetal position, sitting on her balcony with her face buried in her knees. She had another panic attack. She once again felt trapped and overwhelmed by the fact that Minnie's house had reminded her of her father's mansion. She knew that she had to leave soon with Minnie for work, but she was unable to move from her position. She had practiced the breathing technique that Minnie had taught her, and while it did stop her hyperventilation, her breathing was still heavy. She could feel her heart continuing to pound in her chest at a quick pace. She had stopped trembling but was still frozen in place.
She didn't know how long she was there when she heard her bedroom door open and Minnie speak softly, "are you alright, dear?"
Lucy managed to lift her head and gave Minnie a tearful smile, answering, "I-I'm fine. I just need a few minutes."
Minnie gave her a look of sympathy as she walked toward the celestial wizard and got onto her knees in front of her. The older woman asked, "are you sure?" She then added after she scooted back a little to give Lucy some more space, "you don't have to tell me. I just want to make sure that you are feeling well."
Lucy sniffed and wiped away some stray tears. After a few moments of silence, she sighed and explained to Minnie about her trouble with living with her due to the older woman's house reminding her of her father's mansion, as well as her inability to decide if she wanted to join a guild or stay with Minnie in Crocus. The blonde had cast her brown eyes down at the floor of the balcony, dreading what Minnie would say in response.
She then heard the older woman respond, "I would love it if you stayed with me. I appreciate having you around. However, you should do what you truly want to do. Whether that be joining a guild or staying with me. If you decide to stay, then you are more than welcome to continue living with me." After a moment of silence, Minnie gently laid a hand on Lucy's shoulder before she added, "I also think that it'll be best if you no longer work for me." Lucy raised her eyes to meet Minnie's panic evident on her face. She was about to reject and question what was wrong with her work performance when Minnie continued, "you have been an amazing employee, nothing wrong with how you do your job. I simply think that you need a break from work to figure out what you want. Do you understand?"
Lucy thought about what the older woman said. She knew that she had been using her work as a way to distract herself from the things that were troubling her. Perhaps sensing her hesitance, Minnie softly said, "you have to think through what is troubling you. It won't solve itself."
Lucy nodded. She knew that Minnie was right. She responded, "alright." She then added a question, "can today be my last day?" Minnie nodded with a soft smile before she stood up and held out her hand to help Lucy to her feet. The celestial wizard placed her hand in the older woman's and got to her feet. She then followed Minnie out of the house.
Lucy sighed once again. She shook herself out of her thoughts. After this delivery, she'll be heading back to Minnie's house so she could get herself over the anxiety and panic that the house caused as well as figure out what she wanted to do.
She walked into the hotel that she was delivering to and quickly found the room. She knocked on the door and waited for it to open. Just moments after she knocked, the door swung open to reveal an attractive man that wasn't wearing a shirt or pants.
Gray sat on his bed, rereading the job request he had picked. He didn't know what he was thinking when he picked it. Capture a dark mage named Lilith Dirvand. He had no idea how he was able to capture her. All he knew was that she was in Crocus. He supposed that he should probably ask around to see if he can find someone that knew anything about her. Sighing, he laid the job request on the bed next to him and flopped backward.
He was about to take a nap as he waited for the cupcakes he had ordered to arrive when he heard a knock on his door. The ice-make mage hopped out of bed and opened the door to find a beautiful, blonde young woman.
He felt himself blush as he greeted her, "um...hey." His eyes then went to the box in her hands. Hoping that she hadn't noticed his blush, he pointed at it and asked, "are those my cupcakes?"
He looked back at the blonde, noticing that a blush was painted across her cheeks and she seemed to be a bit uncomfortable. He raised an eyebrow and was about to ask what was wrong when she spoke, "y-you aren't wearing clothes."
Gray looked down at himself and gave a scream of surprise and embarrassment. He shouted at the young woman, "sorry! Give me a minute!" He then slammed the door closed and rushed to put on his clothes, cursing at himself under his breath for presenting himself in his boxers to a pretty woman.
Once he was fully clothed, the ice-make mage went back to the door and opened it, saying in a calmer voice, "I'm sorry."
The blonde's cheeks became a lovely shade of pink and she went into a laughing fit, clamping a hand over her mouth in an attempt to muffle her laughter. Gray gained a deep blush, partly from embarrassment, but mostly because she had a beautiful laugh. He waited until she was done laughing to ask again, "are those my cupcakes?"
The woman quickly composed herself and said, "yes! Here you go!" She pushed the pink and blue box into his chest.
Gray opened the lid and smiled at the sight of the pink and blue frosted chocolate sweets. He laid the box on his bed and turned back to the woman, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest. With a charming smile, he asked, "what's your name? I'm Gray"
The blonde smiled back and answered, "I'm Lucy."
The black-haired man caught sight of something glimmering on her hip. Looking down, he saw several keys on a keyring. He pointed down at them and asked, "what are those?"
Lucy looked down at the keys on her hip before she looked back at him and answered with a slight bounce, "they're my Celestial Spirit Gate Keys!"
Gray glanced at the job request that sat on his bed. He looked back at Lucy and said, "you're a Celestial Spirit Mage?"
The blonde asked, her brown eyes sparkling in a way that Gray already loved to see, "you know about Celestial Spirit Magic?"
Gray rubbed the back of his head, answering, "only basic knowledge. I'm an ice-make mage. I basically create stuff out of ice." He then dropped his hand and inquired, "can I ask you something?"
Lucy nodded, questioning, "I noticed your guild mark. You're from Fairy Tail, aren't you? Is your question about a job?"
Gray nodded as he explained, "yeah, I'm trying to find this celestial wizard named Lilith Dirvand, but I don't know where to even begin to find her."
He watched as Lucy's eyes widened and her face twisted into a look of panic. He felt his stomach drop and he asked in a panicked tone, "what's wrong?"
Lucy shook her head, dropping her gaze down to the ground as she said, "I've been having trouble with her. She's been hired to capture me."
Gray's eyes blew wide. A feeling of anger rose in him as he asked with an almost sneer, "why?"
Lucy wrung her hands as she answered, "I don't want to say anything more on the topic."
Gray sighed, silently telling himself to calm down because he may accidentally scare the younger woman. He then spoke in a calmer tone, "come in and tell about her, please."
Lucy walked past him and took a seat on the bed. Gray closed the door and sat next to her on the bed. He waited for her to begin talking. Fortunately, his wait wasn't long and the blonde began to add on to what she had previously said, "the name she has been going by is Kit. She has been attacking me at random times, though a lot of the time she sends her spirits after me instead. She's managed to capture me once, but I got away with the help of a dragon slayer."
Gray nodded, processing the information. He quickly decided that if he wanted to capture Lilith, or Kit, then he would have to follow Lucy and wait for the dark mage to attack her. He could then protect Lucy and capture Kit. He leaned forward, resting an arm on his knee, and suggested this idea. After he explained his plan, he waited for her reaction.
Lucy had stared down at her hands that lay in her lap. After a few moments, she looked back up at Gray and said with a smile, "I think that's a good idea."
Gray smiled back and stood up, asking, "where are you going now?"
Lucy stood up as well as she answered, "back to Min-my house." Her smile faltered for a brief moment before she plastered it back onto her face.
Gray raised an eyebrow at her but decided to not question what she had almost said. He gestured toward the door, saying, "lead the way."
Lucy walked past him and out of the door, Gray following behind her. Upon walking out of the hotel, the ice-make mage followed Lucy at a distance, being careful to not appear suspicious. As he walked along and kept an eye on Lucy, also watching for anybody that may try to make an attempt to attack her.
He watched as Lucy smiled and waved at people that she passed by, appearing to be very happy and carefree. He felt his cheeks warm up and his stomach become filled with what he believes is often called "butterflies." Maybe when this job was finished, he could ask her on a date. He smiled at that thought. Going on a date with the beautiful blonde mage. He didn't see a guild mark on any of her exposed skin. If she wasn't a part of a guild, then he might even be able to convince her to come to Fairy Tail.
Gray shook his head, putting those thoughts to an end. He had to focus on catching Kit and taking her to the Magic Council Headquarters. Afterward, he could make a move. He was then torn out of his head when he heard Lucy scream, "Gray!"
Turning his head to the blonde he was falling for, he saw that she was having what resembled a stand-off with a green-haired woman that was dressed in a black button-up shirt and dark green knee-length skirt. She appeared to also be wearing black stockings and black gloves. Her green hair was pulled into a tight bun at the back of her head.
The ice-make mage dashed forward, not wanting Lucy to get hurt. He stuck out his hands in the way that Ur had taught him and yelled, "stay away from her! Ice-Make: Lance!" This spell produced a light blue magic seal and many lances made out of ice launched toward the pair. The women looked in his direction and both jumped out of the way of his attack. The attack, upon impact with the ground, caused a loud explosion-like sound, and the ground to become crumbled.
Gray stepped in between Lucy and Kit before Lucy yelled at his back, "Gray! You almost hit me! And your shirt is gone!"
Gray looked down at his bare torso, instantly shrugging it off and yelling back as he extended his hands for another attack, "sorry, Lucy!"
He turned his attention back to Kit as the woman sneered, "a pesky Fairy? You've got to be kidding me!" She pointed a silver key in Gray's direction and called, "Open! Gate of the Crow: Corvus!"
This produced the chime of a large bell and a flash of silver light, bringing forth a man with messy black hair, alarmingly pale skin, and emotionless, red eyes. He was dressed in black dress pants, a black, button-up dress shirt, a black vest, black gloves, and black formal shoes.
Gray called back to the woman who stood behind him, "Lucy! Run back home!" He heard her begin to argue before he then heard her run away. He kept his eyes locked on the celestial spirit before him, waiting for an attack.
Corvus kneeled and placed his hand on the broken ground. This created a black magic seal and from it soared out what appeared to be black crows. These crows flew into the air and dived down toward him. Gray yelled, "Ice-Make: Shield!" As he used a shield made out of ice to protect himself from the attack, he silently hoped that Lucy made it to safety and that he would be able to take on this dark mage.
Lucy ran to Minnie's house, already mentally cursing at herself for leaving Gray behind to fight Kit by himself. She silently willed herself to go back and help him, but her legs refused to listen. As Minnie's house came into her view she increased her speed, hoping that it would provide some sort of safety. She was too distressed and frightful to care about the panic that the house tended to cause her to feel.
She was nearing the house when she was suddenly thrown forward by what seemed to be an explosion behind her. Lucy screamed as she flew forward and rolled along the ground. She hissed in pain as she pushed herself to her knees and looked down at herself, seeing that her clothing was torn and she had several bleeding cuts and scraps littering the exposed skin of her body.
She looked to the person that had attacked her, seeing Hercules walking toward her with a large club in his giant hand. He grinned maliciously at her, sadistic glee glinting in his black eyes. Lucy pulled herself to her feet and continued to run to Minnie's house. Maybe she could manage to use its interior to evade and escape the celestial spirit, or buy herself time to grab her whip from her bedroom and summon Taurus so she and the bull spirit could fight Hercules together.
She was thoroughly pissed at herself. She had long decided that she would face Kit head-on, but now she was running and allowing some mage that she just met to fight the dark mage for her. She couldn't believe herself. How could she just willingly bow out like this? She had to go back to Gray and help him. She pushed her legs harder, ignoring the aching feeling that enveloped her body, as she heard the pounding footsteps of Hercules running close behind her.
She ran to the porch and jumped over the three steps that led to the porch, pushing open the door and running inside. As she run down the hallway and was about to bound up the staircase that would take her to her bedroom, she heard a deep, gruff voice exclaim angrily, "what the hell?"
Lucy skidded to a stop and whipped around, only to gasp upon seeing that the bulking spirit had stopped in front of the open doorway. He lifted an empty fist and pounded it against what looked like a barrier of purple inscriptions that seemed to be blocking him from entering.
Hercules took a step back and turned his hard gaze to Lucy, narrowing his eyes in a glare that sent shivers down the injured blonde's spine. He sneered, "runes? Seriously? I wasn't told that you could use Jutsu Shiki."
Lucy stepped back to put one foot on the bottom step. She had no idea what he was talking about. What was Jutsu Shiki? What were those inscriptions? Why couldn't he enter? She was about to demand to know what he was talking about when she heard a familiar voice speak from behind Hercules, "so, you're one of that woman's celestial spirits?"
Hercules turned around and Lucy rushed toward the door in panic and worry. The pair watched as Minnie calmly approached, her hands raised to her chest and palms facing each other. In between her hands was a ball of dark energy, black in color, that grew in size at a steady pace. She yelled, "I'm not a fan of violence, or of those I care about being harmed!" Then, upon stretching out her arms and pointing her palms at Hercules, the sphere was large, and from it came a beam of dark energy. Lucy dropped to her knees, bent forward, screwed her eyes shut, and covered her ears as Hercules screamed in pain from the attack.
Once the screaming had stopped and she could no longer hear the sound of the attack, Lucy opened her eyes and straightened, looking at Minnie. She watched as the older woman walked toward her, entering the house with no problem. Lucy looked around, noticing that no damage had been sustained to the house, not even the porch was damaged, and that Hercules was nowhere in sight. She looked at Minnie, who had crouched in front of her and was smiling kindly at her.
The blonde yelled a question, surprise and disbelief in her voice, "you use magic?!"
Minnie chuckled, waving her hand dismissively, before she responded, "I wasn't quite sure if I should have told you."
Lucy stared at her in shock before she turned her eyes back to the open doorway. Pointing at it, she asked, "so, the weird inscriptions...you did that?"
Minnie nodded, explaining, "those are runes. I put them around the house so that it and anybody inside will be protected from magical attacks. I also use Darkness Magic and Healing Magic." Lucy cocked her head to one side, still shocked but much less confused. Minnie then added, "speaking of Healing Magic." She stretched her hands out toward Lucy, causing a bright light to shine, making Lucy close her eyes. She felt the pain that plagued her body ease before it disappeared entirely. When the light died, she opened her eyes and looked down at herself. Her clothes were still ripped, and she still had blood covering various parts of her body, but the injuries she had sustained were gone, as if they had never even existed.
Lucy looked back at Minnie in amazement. She was about to ask more about the magic she could use when they were interrupted by a blast of water hitting the open doorway. Lucy flinched and shielded herself while Minnie snapped her head toward the attacker. Once the attack stopped, Lucy looked over at the attacker, seeing two instead of one. A young man and woman stood a small distance away from the porch. Both had an aquatic theme to their attire and the man was holding a trident.
Lucy peered past them, seeing Kit walk closer as she spoke, "I was hoping that Pisces' attack would take you two out. I guess I'll need to draw you out of that house." Lucy paled at the sight of the other celestial wizard. What had happened to Gray? Was he alright? Had he been hurt? She once again began to curse herself mentally for leaving him.
She felt Minnie place a hand on her shoulder. She turned to look at the older woman who whispered to her, "go to your bedroom and get your whip. I'll fight the spirits, you fight the dark mage."
Lucy nodded before she stood up and run up the stairs. She ran down an upstairs hallway and quickly burst into her bedroom, grabbing her whip off of the desk that it sat on. Upon hearing the sounds of magical attacks and cries of pain, she turned around and ran back down the stairs. She was about to run back outside, but instead ran into the kitchen, filling a glass with water, before she quickly made her way back outside, finding that Minnie was engaged in a fight with Pisces, causing a fair amount of destruction, while Kit was facing the front of the house, waiting for Lucy to emerge.
Lucy made her way over to the green-haired woman, a glass of water in one hand and her whip in the other. She stopped several yards in front of Kit and bent her knees to set the glass of water on the ground before she stood back up and took out Taurus' key. She pointed the blade outward and called, "Open! Gate of the Golden Bull: Taurus!"
The humanoid bull holding a large battle ax appeared in front of her, remarking, "Nice body, Miss Lucy! Want to give me a smooch?"
Lucy sighed before she ordered as she pointed at Kit, "attack her, Taurus!"
The bovine celestial spirit charged toward Kit, raising his weapon to attack. The green-haired mage jumped out of the way of his attack. She then whipped out two golden keys and spoke in a strong tone, "Open! Gates of the Maiden and Balance: Virgo and Libra!" The two female spirits that had captured Lucy appeared. Kit then ordered them, "Virgo, fight Taurus! Libra, help Pisces!" The two spirits then jumped to do as they were told.
Lucy gripped Aquarius' key in her hand. Just as she was about to summon her strongest spirit, she looked over at Kit, finding that she went into a peculiar stance, pointing at the sky with one hand. This spell produced six rays of light that fell down from the sky, toward Lucy. She gave a scream and ran out of the attack. The individual, small explosions that followed them colliding with the ground caused her to fall the ground and roll, for the second time that day.
She groaned, pulling herself back to her feet, and groaned once again as she looked down at herself to find that she was once again covered in cuts and scraps. She noticed that she had lost Aquarius' key. Looking around she spotted it several yards away from her. She dashed toward it, not wanting it to get damaged. She ended up tripping over rocks. She yelped upon falling onto the crumbled ground.
She groaned, looking over at Kit to see if she was preparing to attack once again. She watched as the dark mage repeated the spell she had performed. As the six rays of light headed toward Lucy, she turned her head away and screwed her eyes closed, tensing as she waited for the attack. When it didn't come, she looked up to see Gray, injured but not heavily, standing over her, an ice shield protecting them from the attack.
The blonde called to him, "Gray! Are you okay?"
The ice-make mage looked back at her and gave her a handsome smile, causing her to blush at the sight of it. He then answered, "better than you, by the looks of it." He then extended his hands, his fist in his palm, and yelled, "Ice-Make: Sword!" A sword made out of ice in hand, the shirtless man lunged forward.
Lucy crawled over to Aquarius' key as the sounds of magical attacks and destruction rang through her ears. Once she grabbed it, she looked back at the fighting. Taurus was gone, as was Libra and Pisces, so now Minnie was fighting Virgo and Gray had cast his "Ice-Make: Lance" spell, which Kit managed to dodge and followed up with her previous attack.
Lucy ran toward the house, needing to get another glass of water so she could summon Aquarius. Once she obtained the glass of water, she ran back outside and sat the glass on the ground, dipped the blade of Aquarius' key into the water, and called, "Open! Gate of The Water Bearer: Aquarius!"
She jumped to her feet and looked up at the irate spirit that appeared. Aquarius glared down at her, scowling, "you interrupted my date with my boyfriend!"
Lucy responded, desperation rising in her as the seconds ticked by, which was reflected in her tone of voice, "Aquarius! I need you to take out that woman!" She pointed at Kit.
The mermaid spirit scoffed, "you have other spirits that can do that." She then crossed her arms over her chest.
Lucy, knowing that Aquarius was about to leave, begged, "please, Aquarius!" She clamped her hands together in front of her chest in a begging way, tears pricking the corners of her eyes.
The celestial spirit stared down at her summoner, eyes narrowed in a glare. Her harsh gaze softened for a brief second before she took back up her urn and swung it toward Kit, causing a large pillar of water to strike her from below. Once she landed, Aquarius followed up more water attacks that rendered Kit unconscious by the end.
The celestial spirit then left, but not before threatening her blonde wizard. Lucy looked over at Gray, seeing him encase the unconscious Kit in an icy cage. She then turned her eyes to Minnie, who had defeated Virgo and was making her way over to her house.
Lucy was about to stumble her way after the older woman when she felt a hand rest on her shoulder. She looked over to see Gray standing in front of her, smiling kindly at her. Lucy smiled back and asked, "she's really beaten?"
Gray nodded, causing the blonde mage to choke out a relieved and happy sob as she collapsed to her knees. She felt Gray wrap his arms around her and hold her tightly to his chest, allowing her to sob against him.
She was free. Lucy was finally free from Kit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope the fight scene wasn't terrible. I'm not very good at writing fight scenes due to inexperience, but hopefully, I'll get better at it.
Next Monday, I will post the final chapter of this story. I hope you enjoyed it!
Thrill Ride ~ Chapter nineteen
That night, everyone went to sleep instantly after the day's trauma. They all slept the next day, not waking up until early afternoon. Sangyeon being the first awake like normal, calling into his office to think about everything that happened. He was scared once he got the call from Hyunjae saying that Juyeon and Lottie were missing. He knew that his boys could fight and fend for themselves, but Lottie not so much. He didn't want an incident like this to happen again. An idea then popped into his head.
Sangyeon walked out and to the kitchen, where the remaining members had gathered together, just having coffee or tea and a quiet chat. They greeted their leader with nods and smiles.
"You okay, Hyung?" Changmin called.
"Just had an idea." Sangyeon said.
"What is it?" Kevin called.
"Have we got anymore trackers left?" He questioned.
"A couple, why?" Jacob responded.
"I want one put into Lottie." He admitted.
"Are you sure?" Juyeon called.
"Yes, so if the worst were to happen, we'd know where she is." He said with a nod.
"Alright, your the boss." Chanhee said.
Sangyeon smiled and nodded, watching as Jacob left the room, soon returning with a small tracker in his hand. He passed it to Sangyeon, who held it gently.
"She doesn't need to know about this either." He said.
The group nodded and just then, Lottie walked in, rubbing her eyes gently. She greeted the guys with a wave before sitting on a chair. Sangyeon went and poured her a coffee, adding a little something extra, before handing it to her.
"Thank you." She said.
Sangyeon nodded and watched her carefully. The others had then realised he had drugged her coffee.
"You don't mess around, do you." Younghoon quietly said to him. The elder just smirked proudly.
A few minutes later, Lottie fell asleep, her head resting against Haknyeon's shoulder. Sangyeon smiled and gently picked her up, carrying her to her bedroom, the others following along.
"Alright, Chanhee, Kevin you two have the steadiest hands, this is up to you. The rest of you go downstairs and wait." Sangyeon instructed.
The members nodded as Chanhee and Kevin got everything they needed. Sangyeon sat next to Lottie, brushing her hair away from her neck, giving the two a clear space to work on.
"What are you going to say when she wakes up with neck pain?" Kevin asked as he took the tracker.
"Say she probably slept funny." He answered with a shrug.
Kevin nodded as he and Chanhee got to work. Sangyeon smiled and knew thanks to the tracker, an incident like before never will happen again.
Far Away Soul, White Cold Star 💫
Chapter 19 p.2 “Arise Hatred Amiss..Distrust the world this Once!”
You've never wanted it to be this way, how could you really when all you've done is kill till this very moment, new options ahead you are stuck on what to even act upon. Future is always foretold yet a curse at every step, how depressing, how can one truly love when that persons fate is strewn out to you like a movie..slowly letting itself play till the very end..
Snap Back! We can't stay like this forever..Entropy is constant but life makes the Universe experience actual change!
She's Alive..I'm coming Hèr'La..don't worry I'm just..so sorry..
  The Crimson Forest would erupt with sounds from all corners, sounds of gunshots and whistling of air rang through the salty winds ending with the ever so bellowing roars of a growing titan overpowering all in its sight. Scampering small organisms hopping branch to branch trying to avoid all the chaos would look forth in time before large amalgamated growths crushed their habitats with their sheer power. Crunching of leaves beneath their steps as they ran through the trees whilst avoiding harm at the same time..How could this have gone any better you ask? Why don't you ask the two bickering like children first and maybe you'll get an answer-
  Sliding underneath a log and hopping over a collapsing tree Kÿr sprang into the fray wielding two double barreled, large mag, suppressed, arm supported rifles in each hand, rolling as he hit the ground Kÿr would spring forth continuing his escape from the force behind him sending the remaining woods array. Sounds of deep growling out combined with pissed off yelling broke through the turbulence as the infected face of Ma'ire broke through the tree line behind Kÿr, the ground quaking as soon as it's face made impact with the ground sending Kÿr toppling through the air as Hijìn hopped into the air lunging straight at the monster making it topple to the side as he punched it. "AaAAARRRgghhh Fhhhhr..Hijìn you DumbAss!", Kÿr yelled out as he tumbled onto the back of this hulking titan losing his grip as one of his rifles fell out of his hand and dissipated into thin air, Hijìn extending his arm behind him and pulling Kÿr back tossing him in the face of infected Ma'ire.
  Flick of the wrist and Kÿr reformed a whole new gun in his left hand and started blasting all the bullets into the monsters face, the creature groaning out in pain as it rolled onto its side trying to avoid the fire. "Ac-..", Kÿr could barely utter a sound as he fell beneath the titan falling on top of him and out of sight, "Kÿr'U!", Yelled out Hijìn as he saw his friend fall under the monster only to lose balance and roll off the creature as well, gripping at literally anything before he was able to grab onto some remaining hairs on the creatures back. Infected Ma'ire's right arm extending revealing Hèr'La still in its grasp getting drained of her power more and more, she gasped for breath as dirt flew all about from this things collision with the ground, soon turning around to face the monster and swiping her left hand making a pillar formation of limestone shoot from the ground hitting the creature straight in the lower jaw sending them up off the ground by a few feet. "Y-you Bastard Let Me GO!", Hèr'La screamed out as she flimsily jerked her left hand back and forth making the ground beneath them come alive with random obstructions slamming into the creatures body in an attempt to be set free, while in the mean time Kÿr was riding on these shifting forest floor patterns on his back sliding back and forth across all the shooting upwards formations panicking, "Shit Shit Shit Shit!", he yelled out before the creature gave out and they all went falling down a cliff face a few hundred feet.
  Creature groaning out in pain unable to make out any words any longer from the ever so growing transformation would flail about in the air for a few seconds, the canopy approaching rapidly Hijìn thrusted himself from the hair he was holding on before and tried running up this things back as fast as possible. Hijìn nearly fell off as he ran further up the beast, once high enough on the creatures back he thrusted both hands in the air, serrated blade tar-like growths coming from his wrists he gripped them in his palms and shoved them straight into the side of the neck of this huge monster. Ma'ire yelped out in pain as Hijìn used all his core strength to yank this things head back wanting it to make a headfirst collision with the trees in an attempt to impale it, but from above Kÿr would run off the cliff face and down onto the falling creature below extending his arms in front in preparation to shoot until something comes up at the last second.
  Grinding their boots heels on the side of the cliff side as Kÿr was free falling came Vìrkä wielding her crystalline jade bow in hand, turning to face him she would yell out in annoyance, "Step aside Sìrlan- let this be handled by an actual sharp shooter!", Kÿr turned to her and grew instantly furious as he pointed one of the guns at her, "What did you just say you BITCH?!", he yelled out shooting several rounds at her. Vìrkä swerved under the first two, hopped off the cliff side for the third and fourth, then slingshot a grapple towards the wall and continued sliding having taken no damage before kicking Kÿr off to the side as she grit her teeth and started sending massive arrow shots to the gut of this massive beast. Ma'ire's infected body had grown to be 120.5 meters tall at this point and was becoming more of a problem with each second as it harnessed Hèr'La's infinite growth and life abilities with its perverted abilities of absorption. The Hellfire from Vìrkä stabbed into the creatures gut just as Hijìn jerked its head back making them all fall faster down to the forest floor below, Kÿr shoved to the side by the kick would fall into the canopy getting more peeved by every passing second she's even existing in his presence, 'That meddling Bitch! How dare she! My weapons are better by a billion million percent just she wait!', Kÿr thought as he swung on his tail across a branch catching himself only to witness the monster slam into the floor causing a mini earthquake around them. "Jeez fat fucks never cease to amaze me..", Kÿr mumbled to himself in a inner monologue about this mutated creature as he hopped branch to branch making his way to the crash site.
  Dust and Smoke clouding the air as the small Sìrlan broke through it to try and reach Hijìn who he last saw falling with beast, from a distance it would sound like the clashing of steel and hard rock over and over again through the dust cloud, sounds growing ever much louder until from the darkness the creatures hand shot through it into the open air. Clenched fist holding Hèr'La punching itself into the ground slamming the woman against the rubble as she violently with both hands stabbed thick sharp pieces of metal from the ground she formed using her powers into the beasts hand, the creature breathed heavily slobbering all over itself heavily as Hijìn was seen gripping onto the side of its face punching at its hardened skull-like face attempting to break it open. Running side by side Kÿr and Vìrkä took chase, but as they ran with one another they would shoot out random arrows to even small explosives at one another shredding everything near them, "You Flat Chested Whore! How dare you try to kill us to now trying to help us! Fuck You!", yelled Kÿr as he did a backflip over a few arrows stabbing the ground beneath him and countering with handful of explosive rounds back at Vìrkä. "Me the Whore?! Please get original with your insults you rancid ball licking sex object! Really don't think I would know your desires aren't pasted onto my sister you should be Fucking ashamed", Vìrkä responded as she dodged left while running, the bullets slowly passing through her hair not even grazing her.
  Explosion from the back heel of the creature made it tip forward for but a moment just as it's left arm bent on the ground to catch itself from falling once again. Flying through the air up the creatures leg was Vìrkä and Kÿr fist fighting one another, Vìrkä punching Kÿr square in the face making him fall back, but swerving back he used the inertia to uppercut her in the face with the two of them landing on the back of this beast. Hijìn still holding on would snarl in pain as the parasite took control of the left side of his mind being visible through his now black left eye, turning around while still punching the creatures face he would witness Vìrkä kicking Kÿr in the face only for Kÿr to lunge forward and full force smack her across the face with a rocket boosted gauntlet making her stagger back for a second. "A-are you Fuckin Serious! We are trying to kill this thing and save your Sister and your woman..and you two are fighting like a bunch of immature fucks!", yelled the parasite through Hijìn as the two kept on throwing hands at one another. Kÿr getting punched in the nose would stagger for a second as blood dripped from his lip, Vìrkä glaring down the Sìrlan as her hair blew in all directions from the creature still running in a straight direction.
  "You..Your gonna pay for that..", Kÿr said to himself as he slowly turned back to face Vìrkä, she would raise both her eyebrows and look at him with a unsurprised look, "You done or are you still gonna try me?", Vìrkä said as her bow was shoved into the creatures back to stay on. Kÿr scoffed as he wiped his lip with his jackets sleeve, "Not until I have your head on a platter I won't..NOW DIE!", he said after lunging at Vìrkä with serrated blade in his hand, but just as fast as he did it Vìrkä would switch hands holding the bow, spin, the kick him back off the creature still running off. Vìrkä shoved her nails deep into the creatures tentacle filled rotting flesh trying to climb ever so much further to get where Hijìn had been the whole time, the man flexing his lats and sending countless sharp tentacles out of him into the creatures eye who would yell out a thunderous roar in agony as it jerked its face away wanting to get the man off. Hèr'La was tossed into the air for a second as the creature slapped its face with both hands to rid of Hijìn, in retaliation Hijìn would shove his hand into the creatures eye socket and catch the creatures hand with the other hand with general ease, burrowing his eyebrows as he yelled out in frustration from the force growing on his body. Vìrkä looking up would see Hèr'La in the air would for a second smile in happiness to see her sister still alive, but in that same breath would thrust off on one foot up and over the creatures slamming down hands and up to try and grab her younger sister. "Hèr'La! Catch my Hand!", Vìrkä screamed out to her sister as she lunged over the creatures head to try to catch her, Hèr'La's eyes fluttering open from exhaustion looking down at her sister would reach back out with her limited strength only to hear a building up roar beneath them both.
  Second pair of hands thumping at its chests so incredibly fast they were nearly blinding, the Creature pounded its chest one last time activating Blood, the sacred technique of Hijìn's people, getting a massive strength and durability enhancement while also sending out a earthshaking roar, knocked Vìrkä off balance and away from her sister whom was caught by the third arm of the monster. Tumbling through the air as the Creature landed back down on the ground after punching Hijìn a few times who was trying his best to defend against such powerful attacks Vìrkä would growl out in frustration, "FILHTY MUTTS AND THEIR HIDDEN POWERS! GIVE ME BACK MY SISTER BEFORE I END EVERYTHING WITH MY BARE HANDS!!!", she said shooting out a grapple shot onto the very arm that caught her sister and full force pulling the cable but just as she did so she turned back and grew even more frustrated. Kicked off and holding a ever growing grudge Kÿr would intentionally spit out a bunch of bloody droplets, but the second they exited his body they turned into a barrage of heat seeking missiles aiming straight for the monster ahead and with the barrage set he would jerk both arms back forming large jet-like propulsion thrusters on his back and boosting back at high speeds towards no one but Vìrkä. Having no movements options but the grapple shot Vìrkä would try to dodge only to realize that the best option is to retaliate, Kÿr blasted through the explosions which made the creature fall forward as its still forming legs fell from the strength of the blast, fist clenched he shot over the creatures back and thrusted his arm full force at the woman making instant contact.
  Fist thrusted right back Vìrkä slammed her fist into the Sìrlan's cheek making the two of them fall straight down from the jets still going on Kÿr's back, he grinded his face against her fist, up her arm, and drove his fist straight into her cheek as the two plummeted downwards. Barely able to mutter out a phrase as his fist squished her cheek, "Y-yOu Du..RrraaGHHH!!", she yelled out before the fist of the creature knocked Kÿr out of the way and carried Vìrkä straight into a collision with her sister in another palm, Hèr'La looked out to see the giant fist holding her sister and made a barrier out of metal and stone from her surroundings to no avail as it broke right through and crushed her beneath the weight of the attack. Kÿr crashing right into the cheek of the creature would yelp out as his thrusters exploded upon collision burning at his back soon falling down till a black tentacle caught him, Hijìn was still just barely clinging to the side of the creatures face with almost no tentacles in his aid, looking down at the Sìrlan he would grow annoyed soon bringing him up with the same tentacle to say, "Look little creature none of us here can stand that woman being here anymore than the next guy, Hell the instant we saw each other it was straight into the hating and fighting, but we chose to settle a small truce in order to get her sister back and stop this madness..". "There is no way she can be forgiven after all she's d-..", Kÿr said before getting interrupted by Hijìn who yelled back in annoyance and in some shame, "I Know! I Fuckin know! She knows it too! But we can't do this alone either! I don't want you to risk your life for anything Kÿr it isn't fuckin worth it..she's hurt Hijìn so much and I can see that in his soul it's irreparable..just this once he wants to tolerate it to actually make a change he's seeking out and maybe just maybe he can make things right..so temper your bullshit..listen to the creature in your friends head who you also hate for once and let's kill us a monsta!", the parasite said to Kÿr through Hijìn who kept the same serious face..only with the internalized sadness as he faced down at his distraught friend.
  Wind blowing past them incredibly fast Kÿr glanced up at the man mutant he calls his friend and would shrug with a upset face, "Fine..I'll cooperate for now..I guess..but one things for sure this doesn't mean me and her will be buddy buddy I'm gunning to kill her and you should to!", Hijìn smiled a bit nodding in response, "of course..now get to it let's save ya woman!", Hijìn said tossing Kÿr up into the air over to the top of the head of the Beast. Kÿr flipped over and landed gracefully on the hardened skull head looking all about, each small crack in the head of the monster would contain dozens of eyes which peered out to anyone in their vicinity, quickly running over to the forehead Kÿr sought ahead to witness the show down below. The Creature clenched it's claws around the struggling Hèr'La who tried to rip her way out of the monsters hold by expanding a metal barrier around herself covered in sharp thorns, but just by her Vìrkä would be holding the left top fist of the creature back with both hands, the overwhelming strength of the titan along with blood technique getting increasingly harder as it grew more and more. The Creature has now grown up to 150.7 meters tall, it's hulking body exploded with bursts of its old blood coming from its expanded veins now getting replaced by the toxic sludge created by the Rafflesia Hasselti parasite, thorn-like needles growing out of its hardened hide, rows of peering eyeballs grew from the tears in its flesh, and bulging muscles weighing so much it grounded the forest floor into dust..now the question is..where is it running off too? Something like this would seem smarter to run towards the main parent for support being the Hydra..yet it continues to run..the salty winds growing more pungent as they keep going, the party getting further and further away from familiar territory as the effects of the Entity attacks didn't do as much damage in this sector before...hehhhhehhehehe...that's..because...we..absorbed..it...and..it's..power...~
  Whistling of two incoming Missiles made Vìrkä stagger in her attempts to hold the giant fist back from crushing her as well, every so often she would turn to her sister Hèr'La to make sure she was still even alive, in this state it wouldn't be long until she fell as well from how weak she still feels from being drained by this same parasite not that long ago. Kÿr hopped off the snout of the beast planting small bombs all along its face till he jumped off onto the lower right arm running alongside it before the bombs went off making the creature scream out in pain, its head jerking downwards straight into the ground where Hèr'La could launch a multitude of spiked rock formations in an attempt to tear it open. However, due to the creatures strengthened defenses and overwhelming weight the formations hardly even grazed it instead making it roll over its shoulder completely launching everyone around into the air, Hijìn flying off the side of this thing falling behind, Kÿr jumping off at the last second as he placed more explosives on the creatures body, Vìrkä was punched into the ground by the fist, and Hèr'La tossed forward sent tumbling along the forest floor. Hijìn recuperated near instantly as he sprang off the destruction caused by the creature falling on its ass, explosions from Kÿr's bombs making it fall to its side while it got back on his feet, gritting his teeth Hijìn would launch two tentacles from his forearm into the ground and launched himself into a full speed sprint after the Beast.
Running over the large holes made by the Creatures heavy footsteps Hijìn kept his pace, his parasites abilities keeping him in tip top shape as he ran, sweat dripping down his face seeing the creature run further and further on ahead smashing through the tree line. A hand shot out of the ground, a familiar light green skinned hand buried beneath all the rubble, reaching down as he leaped over the hole Hijìn pulled out Vìrkä who would swerve in the air and land on his back. Hand on his right shoulder and feet on his back Vìrkä would watch on ahead, "It's mutating more and more..gaining new abilities I feel like if we don't act fast enough with our strongest attacks it'll get so strong we'll be crushed..got that Hijìn?", she asked glancing down at the man who shot out another tentacle from his forearm and skid alongside the path before flinging himself forward through the air, "Y-yeah..Let's do that..", he said not even facing her keeping the goal his priority. Out from the darkness of the forest Kÿr would be seen flying overhead by using his propulsion backpack to give chase, spinning in the air Kÿr swiped his hand to the right making another barrage of missiles to try and take this thing down, "Tch Helping each other..like I'd even care- I'd only help Hijìn..doing him a favor and saving Hèr'La too..", Kÿr scoffed for himself as the missiles struck the ass of the Creature making it falter and jump forward to try avoiding the explosions. Whole sectors of the remaining woods caught ablaze from the explosions missing the target, Kÿr swerving under the collapsing trees in his way would look up and without miss the Creature mid leap turned around mid-air, backhanded him with its massive clawed hands, then caught itself with one hand and started running on all six limbs outpacing the rest. Propulsion jets exploding on contact Kÿr went flying back, some blood dripping from his mouth as he fell, but just before he went too far a peculiar hand caught him. Looking back Kÿr saw the smug face of Vìrkä holding him up with one hand and Hijìn who kept on running after the creature, "Done messing with those weak little rounds? Why don't you use something more piercing on hardened flesh..if you were a sharp shooter you'd know that little Sìrlan~?", she beckoned him in a playful tone of voice. Hair blowing everywhere, Kÿr squirmed around in her hold till he responded with an attitude, "Let! ME! GO! Keep talking shit see where that gets you asshole", Vìrkä chuckled at his response then looked down at the back of Hijìn's head, "Can I toss him off so he can embarrass himself even more?", she asked with a smug look on her face as Kÿr screamed out in anger clawing at her to no avail as she held him away from her face.
"No you can't he's a friend we need him for his abilities..same as we need your abilities and knowledge of these parasites to kill this thing and get your sister back- so cut the crap and cooperate with one another we don't have much time..", Hijìn responded as he planted his foot and thrusted himself faster forward making Vìrkä and Kÿr jerk back from the increase in speed. Ground shaking all around them from the growing monster ahead Vìrkä would groan in annoyance from the request looking down at the Sìrlan still in her hand, "Ugh..Fine..just this once- Ugly little rodent", she said letting the Sìrlan sit down on Hijìn's right shoulder. Kÿr growled out about to respond before Hijìn interjected, "Remember what we talked about..later Kÿr..let's get this job done first", Kÿr opened his mouth trying to say anything, but giving up he flicked Vìrkä off soon standing up straight holding onto Hijìn's head so he doesn't go flying off from how fast he was running. The Creature extended its arm out smashing through hardened walls and smooth limestone pathways as Hèr'La reformed the path in front of her so she can slide out of the creatures reach, falling about on the smooth platform Hèr'La would gaze ahead over the horizon and see something she hasn't seen in a long time...the Sea?! Spinning back having her back facing the forming path ahead Hèr'La would question, "Why is it chasing me to the sea?! How far are we traveling?! Why won't it take me back to the..to our creator..something isn't adding up..", a massive gust of dust blew over the pursuing Creature as from the sky the other three would emerge.
  Blazing heat and Green glowing suns Hijìn, Vìrkä, and Kÿr joined in the fray of it all, The Creature glancing up with all the eyes protruding out of its skull mask-like head would not even have a time to react as all three of them would come crashing down on top of it smashing it headfirst into the pavement, it's whole lower body being lifted into the air as it fell on its ass from such a hard hit. Hijìn tossed Vìrkä and Kÿr off to the sides, Kÿr lunging over the creatures massive flailing arms started blasting at its body all over with guns protruding out of his body, Vìrkä's eyes glowing a bright neon green as she would shoot near endless amounts of arrows at the creatures hardened flesh. Hijìn jumped off the creatures head and started stabbing out its eyes making it scream out in pain, bullet rounds detonating in its flesh sending chunks of flesh and tentacle bits everywhere, arrow's piercing right through its tough hide nearly pinning it to the ground was halted by the monster falling all the way over. They would all consecutively attack the creature at random, Vìrkä jumped forward before getting punched into the ground by a stray fist, but as she fell she caught the fist with one finger till she countered with a full force kick knocking it off to the side. Hijìn rolling around with the Creature falling on top of him would groan in frustration as it's whole body collapsed crushing him beneath all its weight, "Agh we're getting nowhere everything we do is knocking it around but not really harming it enough for it to die", Kÿr yelled out to Vìrkä who ran a solid 20 meters away from him, she nodded in agreement having to lunge over the row of tentacles falling out of the Creatures body falling on top of them once again. Eyes glistening for a second she panicked out to Hèr'La yelling out, "Hèr'La DODGE!!!", Kÿr turning forward would grow terrified as the Creature slid on ahead with mouth wide open right behind Hèr'La who stayed sliding as fast as possible out of reach.
  Sudden thrust of force beneath the Creature made it boost forward with Hijìn full force kicking the Beast off of him, he was tired of being used like some skateboard for the people around him only to realize his mistake. Hèr'La turned around hearing the warning but it was too late, the Creature dug it's claws into the soil and clenched it's horrid jaws around the woman instantly consuming her, "If Anyone shall Have her..IT IS I!!!", bellowed out the Creature as it swallowed Hèr'La down its disease ridden throat. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!", yelled out Vìrkä terrified of what she just witnessed, Kÿr absolutely mortified as well froze for the moment as the Creature fused Hèr'La deep within its chest cavity to harness her true powers to an extreme, in the still moments seeing this Kÿr would be shaken about by the collar hard until snapping to his senses to see a Vìrkä screaming at him. "Stupid Fuckin Sìrlan THROW ME AT IT NOW! Do it or so Help me All Father I'll KILL YOU TOO!!!", Kÿr snarled in frustration trying to get her tight grip off of him as they both fell, "Let! Me! Go! You Ass I'm saving her and look what you did! Now she's gone!", Kÿr yelled back in desperation clawing at Vìrkä's hands trying to get them off. The two kept thrashing at one another, Vìrkä's eyes slightly watering from all the anger redirecting it at the wrong person, Kÿr biting her hands trying to get free while also growing more and more desperate for an escape to all this pain would all be stopped when Vìrkä's hold immediately gets instantly loosened. Charging past them Hijìn grabbed Vìrkä and held her over his head, "Enough with this Crap! You want to be thrown I'll throw you! So shut up and Fuckin get her back!", he yelled at Vìrkä now exhausted of all this bullshit. He was the one who suffered the most from this woman and yet he isn't the one recklessly lashing out like a child...does that make us better or just a coward Hijìn?.. I'd prefer we don't think about that right now..
The Creature ran as fast as possible towards the coast now over 210.2 meters tall and still growing in size, each footstep left earthquakes as it ran, whole body emanating a deep coursing heat of its internal systems going into overdrive, and large spills of its toxic blood pouring everywhere it's traveled. Turning around on the dime the Creature faced the party behind them and sent a earth shattering laugh of victory as it went on, thumping at it's chest with all four arms- "Now Hijìn! Throw me Now!", screamed Vìrkä looking down at Hijìn running below her, a burrowed brow and he would leap in the air and tighten his body up till the max, he threw Vìrkä as hard as possible towards the Creature sending a shockwave from the strength of such a blow making him fall back. Kÿr stopped chasing and stayed with his friend looking on to the incoming attack. Realized what's coming the Creature blocked but it was too late, Vìrkä flew incredibly fast and punched into its chest with all her might blowing a massive hole into its chest so deep it revealed Hèr'La entangled with its core, extended claw like nails growing from her hands Vìrkä stabbed at the creatures insides trying to rip out her sister from her imprisonment. Yelling out each time as her claws digged deep into the hard tentacles not caring that the Creature fell back from the impact and was now skidding on its back down a steep cliff face, slicing just enough she saw her sisters face attached with tentacles on the sides seeping into her very flesh, "Hèr'La! I'm here! Honey I'm here imma get you out of here! It's gonna be okay don't worry!..", she's said with a worried look on her face while she cupped her sisters cheek with her right hand. Hèr'La's eyes fluttered open as she faced her sister asking confused, "V..?..why are you..I thought you..hated me?", Vìrkä ripping one of the tentacles off her sisters cheek, "Of course I don't! I'm sorry for all I've done I've been a fool! I should've listened to you sis..this would have never happened if I hadn't taken that deal like a immature bitch that I was..I just wanna go back to our home and live a peaceful life together that's why-..", Vìrkä was interrupted by Hèr'La reaching her hand out and pushing Vìrkä off her and out of the hole saying, "I know you won't understand now..but I knew this would happen eventually..I know your intent and I sadly get the consequences of it all in the end..take care Vìrkä and please do leave this place..our creator is gonna send us off..one last time..".
  Vìrkä yelled as she fell from the monster back onto the ground falling under all the collapsing vegetation around her, Hèr'La smiling to herself as the hole closed in front of her sealing her away within the bowels of the beast. Hijìn running up helping Vìrkä stand while Kÿr looked on ahead in dismay until something peculiar caught their eye, while the footsteps of the creature made the ground tremble beneath their feet a strange odd yellow glow pulsed in the sky. The yellow glow came from behind, emanating out as a wave of dark clouds chased after them, a monstrous world shaking roar so loud it made their ears bleed rang through the darkened skies. Is this what Hèr'La was warning about before? Is this the retaliation? Why did it take so long to arrive or was this planned since the start? No access to anything now too far from home, no civilizations nearby for assistance, only the wastelands in the distance, sea only a few hundred miles away, and the regrowing crimson forest enveloping them from all angles. Dark clouds pushing in the wind causing Hijìn to falter and bend to his knees Vìrkä would stand up to the pressure looking back knowing what will ensue, Kÿr tucking beneath his friend making a barrier around them so they stay safe from incoming debris.
  "She said the end..I questioned it..but why is it always the end..relationships..love..family..bonds..trust..and life..why does it always have to end someday..I was born and given a blessing from the All Father above, took the mantle as a daughter of fate, payed the price, and now I have to be burdened with my own sins..", Vìrkä said to herself as she took heavy steps against the winds in front of Hijìn and Kÿr who stayed within the barrier. She open her arms out and faced destiny. Planetary sized boney flesh claws ripped from the maw of the Hydra, thin rotting membranes like wings tore themselves from the outer skin walls, fleshy petals unfolded once again, deep within three large figures tore themselves asunder in the sky. Boney human skull shaped monstrosities stretched their long necks into the atmosphere above, ripping their flesh on their jaws asunder revealing a mouth filled with writhing eyes and flailing rotting corpses, charging up their neck vertebrae was the glowing yellow energy soon building up in their mouths. All three massive heads screeched out as the energy kept building up causing hurricane force winds to blow the forest beneath their strength, Vìrkä stared back at them in defiance while Kÿr and Hijìn watched in fear, "Vìrkä get in the barrier now! You'll get vaporized!", yelled Hijìn out to Vìrkä using a small opening made by Kÿr. Vìrkä's silky gray hair blowing around violently she turned back to the two with a soft smile, the display of the Hydra ahead she couldn't help it she just had to be happy in some way, ground around her slowly reforming into a large crevice almost like a ever so changing barrier. Smiling she'd say, "It's been fun..for the small time we've spent..I'd join you but you know..you two hate me..and I completely understand I'd hate me too- hope your barrier is strong enough..see you on the other side..Hijìn and Kyr..", "Wait.. NO!", yelled Hijin out to Vìrkä through the barrier until the world around them became a flash of white light so blinding it rendered all senses useless.
Flash of light and the whole continent and places around it shined so brightly it was visible from other worlds, the Hydra released a massive attack displaying its dominance over the world as the most powerful serpent in existence. It's unfurled fleshy wings releasing Rajòz so strong it vaporized all air in its surroundings causing a massive air vacuum of energy. The world knew of this event no one else could doubt it..from every continent every living thing would witness the light show of Rajòz spreading so far it enveloped the skies. Charred and slowly regrowing the Crimson forest took the worst of its blows..the Entity of unmeasurable strength and now the Hydra's true colors..if only we landed somewhere else maybe this would have gone better..
Forgone..the smell of salty seas envelops me..sand clinging to my skin..what did she do..
The weight on my chest..
What..is..my..purpose..
Why does He want me alive..?
I pen an epilogue, to capture this essence of this fleeting sphere
In the twilight of my teenage years
As nineteen’s embrace crawls near
In the garden of life, a new bud will rose
If It Were Brian Chapter Nineteen
AO3
Brian sleeps on his daddy’s lap. They sit in the Great Room by the fireplace. Claire is to his right and Fergus, his left.  Jenny and Ian sit across from them. They are discussing the Redcoats.
“We ne’ ken when they will show up.” Ian says. “That is the reason we expanded the priest hole. It is the safest place for him.”
“Aye, but not quite appropriate for my family. I cannae see sleeping apart from Claire and not spending every moment I can with our son.” He strokes the lad’s soft hair and he sighs and pushes closer to him.
“You are right as is Ian. You are safer there Jamie but, our very presence belays any effort taken to hide you. One look at Brian and even the dimmest Redcoat will know who’s son he is.”
Murtagh, standing guard at the door, huffs in agreement. He was almost brought to his knees at seeing Brian. The wean was the spit of his da when he was a lad.
“Just so. We must do something to keep all of you safe.” Jenny states. Her nervous hands work the sewing that is always present. It is usually calming for her but not this evening.
“What of the colonies ?” Fergus asks, “would we be safe there?”
The room stills. For a moment, Brian’s soft breathing is the only sound. Claire then let’s out  the breath she was unaware of holding.
“It isn’t a bad idea. They are still held by British governance right now but much freer.”
“You mean to take my brother and nephews, yourself, away again!” Jenny throws the shirt of wee Jamie ‘s she was working on to the side.
“Janet.” Her husband’s response is firm but she doesn’t  seem to hear him.
“I just got you back, just meet the bairn! You canna take them away!” Brian moves uneasy against his daddy.
“Janet Murray!” Claire’s stern mother voice gets through. “Do you think I want to? I am home. This place, but more, you, my family, this is home. I loath the very thought of leaving. I wanted Brian to grow up here, with his cousins and auntie and uncle. But,” Her voice gets softer, “I need him safe more. Frank was a monster. Truly he was that bastard ‘s relative. I knew that if I could get here to you, even if Jamie wasn’t here, he would be safe. Those blasted Redcoats make here dangerous right now. The advantage of knowing history is the knowledge that this won’t always be true. While it is, we must keep our lads safe, eh?”
Jenny hauls herself up and hugs her good sister. “Aye, ye be right. Tis this bairn who be bringing such…” She stops as they both feel her water give way. The baby is on the way.
Chapter One | Chapter Nineteen
Chapter Nineteen
Finnick and I stay outside until it’s time for my therapy, sometimes talking and sometimes not. It’s nice to breathe some fresh air, get reoriented from the war. Remember that there is in fact life still, even if it’s impossible to see underground. If I’d picked up any survival skills like Katniss and Gale, I would have been tempted to stay out there.
Only Thirteen has Katniss and Delly and Haymitch and the videos that I need to get a full understanding of what happened during the Games. Today we’ve finally reached the start of the Quarter Quell, the last few days of my life before I’d been hijacked. A space in time that I still have questions about and have been more difficult to sort out than the others. Yesterday Prim told me that although the Quell only lasted three days, so much happened in it that it’ll take a couple weeks to get through as there isn’t a lot they’ll be cutting out.
When Prim brings out the morphling, I say, “Can we skip that for today?”
“What’s brought about this change?” Prim asks.
“I don’t need it now,” I say. “I know what I’m seeing is true. And I’m sure I’ve seen the worst of it already. I can handle it.”
“We can skip it for today if you’d like,” Prim says. “But it’s okay if you need the help.”
