Hey! This is for a bigger project I'm thinking of starting. If anyone could help out, I'd really appreciate it. It's kind of a turn from my usual stuff with Marvel and whatnot, but bare with me and reblog if you've got any friends/mutuals that can help out!
Calling any history/culture/mythology/folklore fans out there.
Basically, I need folklore from all different kinds of cultures, specifically personifications of things, such as Lady Justice from Greek, the Grim Reaper from Dark Ages, and Yin/Yang from Chinese.
I'm interested to hear anything and everything from all continents and countries. African, Asian, Australian, Europian, South American, and North American.
Give me the bad, give me the good, give me the ridiculous, give me the serious, give me all of it! Religious, scientific, nature, whatever!
Thanks to every participant!

Hey Tolkien people and history buffs of Tumblr, I'm in need of your assistance. Does anybody know if there was an actual historical inspiration (or many) to the narrow, no rails, stone bridge of Khazad-dûm?
For context, I'm trying to use it as an example in my theoretical physics dissertation on the dynamics of pedestrians moving in a single line, but I've already met with some resistance from advisors with No Taste. All my google searches have conducted to analyses of the effectiveness of the Khazad-dûm scene in the book & movie, instead of an analysis of the actual "physical" bridge.
I know I could use other modern examples from construction scaffolds or bus and plane boarding/exiting schemes for single-line movement, but that's boring. Uninspired. Everyone does it. What I want is a badass illustration from The Lord of the Rings, and a JRR Tolkien quote on my very theoretical, so abstract that is basically useless, physics dissertation.
A physicist calls for aid.

Turbulence…it can mean anything from a few little bumps to a catastrophic weather system that could knock your flying tin can right out of the air. In Surgery they call it a complication, the surgeons hit a snag, a bump in the road. Turbulence.
In your marriage, you called it Separation. One of the most unpredictable things about encountering turbulence is its aftermath. Everything’s been shaken up, undone, turned on its head. So you ask yourself time and time again, if you had the choice to avoid the plane crash, the turbulence altogether, would you take it? Would you play it safe and cancel the flight? Or would you get onboard and take your chances.
“Dad!” Little Lucy Seresin was just the spitting image of you and your grandmother. She was every bit you except for those big emerald green eyes. “Dad—!” You could see Jake making his way towards you and your three children through the crowd, all standing around your legs waiting for their father. The one who gave all three of your children those piercing emerald eyes that held what seemed like all the secrets in the universe. “Mum! Dads here! Dads here!”
“I see him sweetheart, there’s daddy.” You replied to your six year old, who, before you even had a chance to stop the only daughter of Jake Seresin, took off running across the crowded airport welcoming area towards her dad. You knew it had been far too long since Jake had been able to see his children, but you also knew it wasn't entirely his fault. The Navy was unpredictable as it was reliable.
“Hiya Lulu!” Jake smiled as wild as he could as he dropped to his knee to embrace the six year old human he’d helped create. “Oh I missed you sweetheart.” That much was true, Jake Seresin missed his kids every day that passed him by. You watched on with six year old Lennox by your side and two year old Samuel on your hip as Jake picked his daughter up and carried her back over to where you stood patiently waiting. “Lenny, how you going man?” Jake beamed as he tousled his eldest son's hair. “Far out kid, you shoot up any more and you’ll be taller than your mother.” You smiled at the dig unintentionally, before you knew you were smiling Jake had seen the corners of your lips turn upright into an unmissable smile.
“Mums says I’m growing like an inch a day because I eat all my green beans at dinner.” Jake took a moment to place Lucy back on solid ground before he came up back up to meet your gaze. It had been a few weeks since you had called Jake about your Christmas plans. He still wasn’t sure how to feel about them, deep down he wanted to tell you not to go. Deep down he was screaming at the top of his lungs for you to give him another chance, to come with him and the kids to his mothers for Christmas. But Jake knew better than to make a scene in front of the kids. But that didn't mean he couldn't be petty when he wanted to be just to get a rise out of you.
“Is that so?” Jake beamed that signature Seresin grin you’d fallen for back in college when he was captain of the football team and you were just that meek library dweller. He made you feel so much more than just the shy history buff you’d been back then, Jake Seresin had taught you a lot of things about yourself in the time you’d been his best friend and wife, now ex. Nowadays however you often caught yourself wondering if he’d miss you if you didn’t make it through the battle you were facing. The battle you hadn’t told anyone about except your mum. The battle that took all your strength to keep a secret close to your chest. The battle that was draining you or all your strength and energy. The battle that late at night you wish you could just end early.
Stage three A, triple positive grade three invasive doctoral carcinoma. Triple positive meaning that your specific cancer fed off oestrogen, progesterone and HER2 hormones. Lucky you right? Your first lumpectomy went rather well, but you were facing twelve weeks of chemotherapy treatment. Three oral tablets daily and two full days of IV sessions a week.
However, you were taking measures into your own hands as of tomorrow and were scheduled to be back in hospital for double mastectomy. You didn't want to wait and see if the cancer would spread and wanted every single bit out. But Jake was none the wiser about your medical status and assumed that you were off to Canada with friends for a white Christmas in Banff Alberta.
“Well—“ Jake carefully took little two year old Sammy from your grasp and placed his tied sleeping self on his own jean clad hip. “Mums are always right.” Jake quickly followed up as he looked down at Lenny. “There’s gonna be a ton of green beans at Grandma's house so you might overtake her quicker than anticipated buddy.” Jake gave the youngest of the three Seresin siblings a kiss on the cheek before he fully turned his attention to you. “Hey Hon—“ The way Jake stopped himself from finishing his sentence made your heart sink into the pit in your stomach. “Y/n, hey Y/n.” He corrected himself quickly as he picked up his duffel bag from the ground next to where he stood before you. “You look well.”
Oh if only Jake truly knew what you had to do in order to look well. The countless hours you spent throwing your guts up in the middle of the night. The sleepless nights that turned into days. The loss of appetite that had you dropping weight faster than you could blink. Your diagnosis had been quick but your symptoms had been even quicker to take over your daily life.  You kicked yourself every day for not getting yourself to a doctor sooner.
“Yeah, I’ve been doing alright—“ Things used to be so easy with Jake, now he was standing here before you in the middle of the airport bustling with people going to and from for the holiday season and you swore he looked like someone you didn’t even know. “The kiddos keep me busy, don’t you?” You asked Lucy as she reached out for your hand and looked at you like you were telling lies.
“Mums been sick.” She told her father confidently, like you weren’t about to die then and there on the spot from embarrassment. Little Lucy had a bad habit of throwing you and Jake under the bus with one another. “She said it’s just a cold, but she’s been sick for like four whole weeks.” Lucy didn’t know any better than what you had always told her, that you had the flu. A long flu at that. As soon as you’d get the kids off to school you’d head right back to bed and sleep. The medication your doctors had you on was pretty brutal, and chemotherapy didn’t help although you’d only just started that kind of oral treatment. It packed a punch you couldn't handle.
“Oh?” Jake frowned as the five of you all made your way through the airport and out towards the car park. “Mum didn’t tell me she was sick, if I had known I would have come sooner.” Jake looked at you like he was trying to read the lines on your face. He could tell you were tied, more than normal—but despite that knowledge he’d never say it out loud. His grandmother would roll over in her damn grave if Jake ever dared to point out a woman’s under eye bags or her tired expression. So he went with ‘well’.
“That’s why I didn’t tell you.” You didn’t mean for it to sound so harsh, but you knew by the hurt look on Jake’s face that it had struck an exposed nerve. He never wanted to separate. “What I meant was, I’m fine, Lulu here sees a runny nose and thinks it’s the end of days, I would have called you if I needed help.”
“Fair, I mean—you can’t be that sick right? With your big trip to Banff planned and all.” Jake shrugged it off like his heart wasn’t breaking inside his chest. This was about to be his first Christmas separated from the women he loved more than life itself. Being in North Island made it easier to run from his problems, but the minute he got on that flight he was back inside his own head, rewinding and rethinking everything he ever did wrong to drive you away.
“Right—“ You agreed softly beside the man you loved so deeply that it burned. “Yeah, I’m just so thankful you were so happy to take the kids with you to your mothers house this year.” To be perfectly honest you were expecting Jake to push back, ask more questions, be a little standoffish on the idea of you not being there for the kids on Christmas. But he never did, and you didn’t know what hurt more.
“They’re my kids as much as they’re yours—kinda think it’s the least I can do considering you’ve had them all year round.” It was the tone you didn’t appreciate, the almost passive aggressive attitude that made you frown as you walked with Jake and your kids back to your car.
“You can see the kids anytime you like.” You tried to keep your head level, but the way Jake had said it made you question his motives. “I’d never stop you, if you wanna have them more often I’m sure we can—“
“Wasn’t that a big part of the reason you wanted to separate?” Jake interrupted before you had a chance to finish what you were saying. You were about to say perhaps you could come up with a custody agreement. Something on paper that seemed fair to the both of you that took your work schedules into consideration as well as your living conditions, the kids schooling, holidays and extended family. You were happy to discuss it more, but this year that had passed the both of you by had gone in the blink of an eye. “You were stuck with the kids too much? Seems a little counter intuitive considering you’ve become their primary caregiver.”
“Jake—“ You sighed with a longing he’d missed. “Not in front of the kids, alright?” You were trying your best, truly. But here he was in all his glory, the love of your life and father of your children, telling you that you made a mistake just in a different kind of font. “We can talk about it all when we get home.”
“I’m not doing anything in front of the kids—“ Jake shrugged as he watched you unlock the car. “I’m just trying to understand why you can’t just admit why you really left.” Jake knew why you left, because of him. He knew he hadn’t done enough in your marriage to show you how much he loved you. He just wanted to hear you say it. That you didn’t love him anymore. He wanted you to tell him point blank that you had fallen out of love with him.
But you could never say that, because you never stopped loving him.
“You know why—“ You had to bite the inside of your cheek and grit your teeth to stop yourself from yelling, Jake Seresin after all these years still managed to get under your skin with ease. “Again, not in front of the kids, let’s just get home.”
“You seem frustrated.” Jake teased with that award winning grin, he knew exactly what he was doing. You always took the bait.
“Yeah, you’ve been here for five minutes and I’m already over it.” If you had rolled your eyes any harder than you did you would have fallen over.
“Little harsh—“ Jake chuckled as he placed Sammy into his booster seat, the little buckles that used to give him a hard time when the twins were younger were seamlessly clipped up in seconds. Jake made sure his youngest was safe and secure before he stood and turned his full undivided attention back to you. “I’ve missed you.” He said genuinely with a love so strong inside his heart you could nearly feel the warmth as he wrapped his arms around your shoulders and drew you in for a hug. “It’s good to see you, even if it’s just for one night before you go jet setting.”
With little hesitation you melted into the man you had married all those years ago with ease. Jake was your home, your guiding light. This past year had been rough without him and you knew deep down it had been rough for him too.
But sometimes love just wasn’t enough to save a marriage.
“Yeah—yeah it’s good to see you.” Jake felt your arms wrap around his torso as you let your cheek rest on his shoulder. “I’ve missed you too.” Jake’s scent had alway brought comfort to you, the overwhelming warmth of cedarwood and notes of vanilla bourbon always calmed you, grounded you in reality. “I’m uh—“ You wanted to tell him the truth about what was going on, but you just couldn’t do that to him. You couldn’t ask that much of him. Not after everything you’d both been through over the last year. “I’m just happy you’re here for the kids.”
“Mum! Lennox won’t let me have the window seat!”
“I’m older than you!” Lennox argued back as Jake groaned into your neck. Oh how he’d missed you, missed the kids, missed his family. North Island was great but without the four of you? Something was always missing. A piece of Jake was always missing.
“I’m not just here for the kids.” Jake pulled away at the sound of Lenny and Lucy arguing in the back seat over who was taking the middle seat. “But they’re a bonus, Honey.” He winked as he switched into dad mode and dropped his voice an octave or two. “Stop arguing, I’ll flip a coin.”
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~***
“Oh woah—“ Jake's eyes lit up as he walked through the front door of the home you’d recently finished moving into. He’d only ever seen it over FaceTime. “It’s bigger than it looked.” The little giggle you let out as you passed him by didn’t go unnoticed. Dirty bird, Jake thought to himself as his eyes lingered down to your ass as you walked ahead of him.
“It’s enough for me and the kids with a spare room.” You replied as Jake continued to look around. Reminisce of cardboard boxes used in your move still remained scattered around the place. “The kids still wanted to put up the Christmas tree even though they aren’t gonna be here.”
“Mama said Santa will know that we’re spending it with Grandma and Grandpa and will take all our presents there.” Lucy caught Jake's attention as she barreled into the living room where the Christmas tree stood tall and proud, decorated with mismatched decorations that you and Jake had collected over the years either from stores or the kids' school crafts. “She also said I could give this to you when you came to stay the night.” Lucy explained as she dropped to her knees and reached under the tree to where a perfectly wrapped gift labelled with Jake's name on it sat. “It’s from mum.”
“Lucy May—“ You nearly hissed as you padded into the living room. “Don’t tell lie’s please.” You pointed, the deal had been you’d get Jake one present and one present only knowing he probably wouldn’t have gotten you anything, and that you’d tell him it was from the kids until he opened it. “You tell your dad who it’s from.” Jake knew by the smirk that crept across his daughter’s face he recognised as his own, that it was from you. Lucy didn’t have to say another word. But she did regardless.
“It’s from me and Lenny.” She replied as Jake sat on the couch he used to sleep on during those nights the two of you couldn’t sleep in the same bed. Those nights where the two of you needed space and those nights where he thought he was doing the right thing by you and giving it to you. He sat on the couch that felt unfamiliar now and took the present his daughter gave him with grace. “Lenny! Dad’s opening our present!”
“What present?” Lennox frowned as he walked into the living room trying to carry two year old Sam. “Oh! Mums present.”
“Lennox!” You groaned aloud in utter defeat.
All Jake could do was laugh to himself as he looked over at you. You were as beautiful as ever, his one and only love. How the fuck did things get so messy where you had to use your children as scapegoats.
“It’s fine, it’s fine—I know it’s from the kids Honey.” Jake winked as you rolled your eyes and headed on into the kitchen where you were getting organised to cook dinner. You were starting to feel awfully tired–the oral chemotherapy was starting to make you feel sicker than you had been before you knew what was going on. A double edged sword really, you keep taking the pills? You get so sick you die. You stop taking the chemotherapy tablets? You get so sick you die. Either way you were dying or you convinced yourself you were.
But Jake could never know that, your kids could never know that, so you went about your routine as normally as you could without making a fuss.
“I might save this for when we get to Grandmas, I wouldn't wanna not have anything to open on Christmas morning Lulu.” Jake smiled as he brought her in for a hug between his legs. “I love you all so much.”
“We love you too dad.” Lucy replied as she hugged Jake back. “Mum loves you too.”
“Oh does she now?” Jake knew that putting all his faith in a six year old probably wasn't the best thing he could do, but right now as he held her in his arms, the little girl the two of you had created–he did. He trusted her to tell the truth you wouldn't, because you wouldn't lie and tell him you didn't love him either. “Guess I'll just have to take your word for it then, won't I?”
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~***
Jake Seresin had always been a good dad, you had never questioned him on his ability to go above and beyond for his children. That was something you never had to worry about. As you plated up dinner, the laughter of your three children coming from the living room made you smile to yourself. They were loved so fiercely.
“Alright, let's get ready for dinner, yeah? Mums been cooking up a storm in here.” Jake rounded the corner with Sam hand in hand. “Smells so damn good in here.” You again smiled to yourself as Jake can to stand beside you at the kitchen counter, watching as you scooped some pasta bake onto five plates.
“When's the last time you had a home cooked meal?” It was a simple question but Jake really had to think about it for a moment as he reached over to steal a cucumber slice from the chopped salad.
“Does food from the bar count?” He asked with a half cocked smile, knowing full well that Penny's burgers and fries wouldn’t be considered home cooked in your opinion.
“No–” You grinned as Jake leaned in from behind you, trapping you between him and the counter with both arms encompassing you. “No, when's the last time it was a home cooked meal?” Jake didn't reply right away, he simply inhaled your scent slowly from behind you and took in the comforting scent of elderberry and juniper. He missed that all encompassing feeling, that safe and warming feeling of your presence.
“Uh—probably the last time you cooked for me.” Jake noticed the moment you paused at his words, the revelation that you were having. “And it was probably pasta bake, with salad and pork chops, like what we’re having right now.”
“It’s always your favourite—“ It was clear from the very beginning that both you and Jake were getting caught in the moment. But as his hands slowly make their way from the counter top to hips, you know you were too far gone to press the pause button. “Jacob—“
“I'm a simple man.” Jake cooed as he brought one of his hands up to move your hair from one side of your neck. “Lucy tells me you love me.”
“She’s got a pretty wild imagination that daughter of ours.” You teased as Jake pressed his lips against your neck in a sweet gesture of gratitude for the woman who gave him three beautiful children. “You need to stop—“ You sighed into Jake's warm embrace as he pulled away and let his chin fall to your shoulder. “I don’t know where or what you've been in recently.”
“I think she said her name was Vanessa.” Jake taunted as he held you tightly from behind. He felt you tense in his embrace at the very idea he’d been with someone other than you. But you couldn’t hold it against him, not now, the pair of you were separated. You held no claim on the man you had left in favour of putting yourself first.
But that didn’t mean it still didn’t hurt.
“Vanessa a name I should remember?” You asked with a little attitude in your tone Jake caught immediately. He couldn’t help but to smirk at the idea you were a little jealous of his very infrequent conquests. He loved you to the end of the world but this was such a frustrating situation to be in. What was a guy supposed to do? Be celebate in hopes his wife came running back?
“Nope—“ Jake reassured you with another kiss to the neck. “I’m not ready to let you go, I thought maybe I could if I just leaned into the whole thing, whatever it is that we’re doing, but I’m just not ready to let you go.”
“Have you?” Jake had to clear his throat when he asked. “Been with anyone, that is?”
“Do you think between work, raising three kids with your DNA and missing you that I’d have time to get laid?” You knew what Jake would latch onto, the part where you said you missed him. You saw the light in his eye as you turned in his embrace to face him with a mischievous smile plastered across your face.
“You miss me?” Yes. Yes you did. With all your might you missed him everyday and every night. But it didn’t change what the two of you became.
“Don’t try your luck—“ You argued, shrugging Jake's query off like the answer was obvious. To him it was, you did miss him. Other sailors tend to recognise other sailors on the sea and Jake missed you tenfold.
“Oh I’m feeling like the luckiest guy in the whole world right now.” You could feel Jake pressing himself against you, silently but not so subtly telling you exactly what this whole encounter was doing to him.
“Really? Is that so?” You asked like you weren’t aware of the rock hard erection pressing against your pelvis. Jake just pressed his lips together in an attempt to hold off the crimson red from creeping up his neck and cheeks. But he wasn’t backing down from a challenge, especially when you were leaving all the right doors unlocked for him to walk right through.
“So lucky that I couldn’t help but to notice the spare bed hasn’t even been made up?”
“Oh so you assumed I’d be your personal chef and the maid tonight?” You countered as you looked around for your three small children, not wanting to expose them to such x-rated content before you slowly but surely sunk your hand into the sweatpants Jake had recently changed into. Damn those grey sweats and damn Jake for going commando. “You are perfectly capable of making your own bed.”
The way your palm wrapped around his length sent sparks through Jake's body like nothing he’d ever felt before. Your touch was so beautiful and elegant, like you knew exactly what he needed and where he wanted it.
“Or I could just sleep in yours, with you.” Jake nearly begged as your fist slid up and down his hardened length, feeling him twitch under your control. “Honey—“ He nearly moaned as he fell forward into you, letting his forehead rest against yours. “You’re killing me here.”
“What don’t you get about the fact we’re separated?” You asked almost teasingly like you weren’t pumping him slowly as dinner cooled on the counter behind you while your kids played in the living room.
“For as long as you have my last name, you’re my wife, end of story.” Butterflies, that’s how you’d describe the feeling inside you when Jake, your somewhat ex husband, told you you were still his. You never wanted to not be his, but you were sure that Vanessa maybe wondered if she’d ever be his too.
“Oh you are so full of yourself.” You slowly but surely pulled your hand out from Jake’s sweats and watched him nearly deflate at the loss of sensation, but he never missed a beat, Jake was quick like that, he always had been.
“You could be full of me too if you just let your guard down a little.”
“Jake!!” You slapped his chest firmly as your kids all rushed in at the smell of food.
“I’ll take my stuff upstairs shall I?” He grinned ear to ear, knowing by the way your jaw remained on the ground he had you hook, line and sinker.
“Yeah, you can, to the spare room you idiot.” You watched as Jake fixed himself up and headed in the direction of the stairs. You were still so in love with this man.
“Lenny! Where’s your mothers room?” Jake turned to your eldest son who always knew that the two of you were going to make it through whatever this rough patch was. He had friends who had divorced parents, and even at the young age of six, Lennox knew his parents didn’t hate each other.
“Upstairs to the left, it’s the messy one.” You gave your son the stink eye as he beamed up at you.
“Perfect.” Jake chuckled and sent you a wink. “I’ll be right back.” He was getting laid tonight and you both knew it.
“I’m—“ You hardly had the energy to keep your whole hard to get act up, so with a sigh, you let your guard down for the man who held your heart in the palm of his hands. “You’re unbelievably.”
“I’ve been told by the youth on base it’s called Rizz now.” Jake yelled back as he jogged up the wooden stairs, you could just barely hear him as his voice faded the higher he climbed. But nevertheless, you still heard him.
“Well I can’t wait to get both you and your ‘rizz’ out of my house!” You shouted back, Lenny just laughed as he watched his Dad pull a funny face at your words from the top of the stairs.
“You don’t mean that.” He smiled up at you. “You and dad love each other.” It made your heart skip a beat, but you had to remember that you were playing a dangerous game here. Letting Jake in now would only break his heart more. You had to do what was best for you, and that was to remain separate. At least while you were fighting for your life.
“Maybe, but he’s still a pain in my ass Lenny.”

Moving to forks, where it would rain all the time was something to get used to, even tho I spent the summer here all the time it was still hard to leave my mom and all my friends. For Bella tho, it was harder to adjust, she hadn't been back in a while and what made it even worse for her was that she and our dad didn't have a really good relationship.
Tho my dad could be really awkward, he wasn't around me. Maybe it's because we have a lot in common or it could be because I just don't let things get awkward. I always have something to talk about.
The only other person I knew in forks other than my dad was my childhood best friend Jacob, who I would always spend the summer with. As kids, we were already insertable and it broke the both of us when I packed up and left.
Jacob was over-excited when he heard about me moving back, though when I was gone me and Jacob would still call a lot, always keeping in touch. But over the last few months before we moved back to forks, we had started to drift apart but the day we got there it was like I hadn't left.
Since Jacob went to school on the reservation I ended up not knowing anyone on my first day. This was one of the first times I was happy to have a twin, thus meaning I didn't have to walk the halls alone or eat lunch alone.
It was weird being the new girls. In such a small town where everyone knew everyone, we both stood out. The second we stepped out of the truck all eyes were on us. Yet another thing I forgot to worry about.
But after the first two classes, I was grateful to see my twin's face amongst the crowd. She motioned me over, only then did I see the unfamiliar faces she was sitting with.
I didn't pay much mind to her newfound friends, only did I snap out of my daze when they mentioned the Cullens who I had already heard about in one of my classes. They were the talk of the school until we got here.
Right when I got paired up with Emmit for a project in my history class I knew something was off with him. The first thing I noticed was how pale the boy was, un-normally pale. And maybe he was just a history buff with the way he knew all the answers before looking them up, which didn't seem like he was the type.
But to my surprise, there were more of them. All the same amount of pale.
"Damn talk about pale," I muttered to Bella when the whole pack of Cullens walked through the door. She only nodded in agreement but her eyes wouldn't leave the last boy who had come in alone, Edward they said his name was.
I could already tell my twin was attracted to him but it didn't look one-sided. I could see the way his eyes kept finding hers during lunch, and if I was being honest I didn't like the boy. He seemed too pale to be real.
I had Engish with the boy and of course, the teacher had to sit me next to him. It seemed like in every class there was a Cullen and every time I got either paired up with one or I had to sit next to one. Good thing was he didn't pay me much mind, which I was more than grateful for. As much as I love talking, the one thing I hated was when I met someone who liked it as much as I did. Which so happened to be his brother Emmit.
And this was how the days were most of the time, weeks passed and Bella seemed to talk more and more with the Cullen boy. Every day after school she would tell me the whole story of how they talked about the weather in class, no detail was left in the dust. I knew more about the boy than probably most of the people at school.
And every day I dreaded history class. The one class where Emmit would talk my ear off, and every time I would get the chance to talk, the boy would interpret me or talk over me. This made me hate the Cullen family more and more. The only time I was free of his voice was when I finally got home.
Bella would stay in most nights, talking with mom while I was out with Jacob. I would tell him all about Bella's crush on the Cullen boy and all about how Emmit was driving me crazy which Jacob always found really amusing. But when I was with Jacob I forgot all about my problems that weren't even problems at all, he was like my other half. And even tho Jacob loved to talk as much as I did, for some reason it never bothered me.
Even tho Jacob would tell me about everything that happened in his life, one thing he never shared was how he felt for my sister. I saw the way he always asked for her, the way he would look at her whenever they met, it was obvious. And even as smart as Bella was, she never saw it.
But how could she when her eyes were only on one pale Cullen. And as much as I wanted to bring up that topic, I never did. I knew that if I brought it up Jacob would only grow those feelings inside. So I never voiced it.
Tho I had my own truck, I would always end up driving with Bella. She was a better and safer driver than I was, I had already gotten so many speeding tickets and half of those had been from my dad. Instead of taking my drivers away like a normal cop, he ended up taking my truck away until I was more responsible. As much as I hated it, I also didn't mind spending that extra time with my sister.
"You know pale face over there won't notice you here unless you go and talk to him," I said to Bella from inside the driver seat, door wide open. She looked up from the book in her hands and narrowed her eyes.
"I don't care if he notices me or not. I like reading out here,"
"Right," I scoffed. "You like reading out in the freezing cold while standing in the lot with a bunch of loud teenagers," I said shaking my head when she rolled her eyes. But nonetheless, I let her do what she wanted, even if that meant getting sick just so a guy would notice her.
"Shit," I muttered, ducking my head trying to stay out of sight. Bella looked back, trying to see who I was hiding from.
"Who are you trying to avoid?" She asked, turning her head back to me.
"Emmit. He's been starting to talk to me outside of class and it's driving me crazy," Bella let out a small laugh, she knew all about my hatred for the boy, and just like Jacob, she found it amusing.
"I think he sees you," She laughed as Emmit started waving his hands and motioning me over. I groaned, hitting my head on the driver's seat before I got out of the truck and slowly made my way over to the buff boy.
"What?"
"Hello to you too," He smiled, shaking his head in amusement. "I just wanted to talk to you about the project due next week. If we want to get it finished on time we have to start doing it after school," My face paled, and overwhelming dread started to fill me.
"Maybe if we just do more in class-" I started but he cut me off.
"Still won't be enough time. Looks like you'll be coming over Friday Swan," He ruffled my hair, making me slap his hand away. The scowl on my face only made him laugh.
I turned and angrily walked away, grumbling to myself about how I got into this mess in the first place. If anything the reason we were behind was because of his none stop yapping.
All the anger vanished in my body when I heard the screeching of tires. I jerked my head up, spotting a black van which was speeding through the parking lot.
Bella with her head still stuffed in her book didn't hear the van that was making its way toward her. The only explanation for her deafness was probably that both of her earbuds were in.
Not even thinking twice I raced after my sister, screaming her name but it did no use, the van was too close. I could hear Emmit calling me back but I ignored him. Fear made my heart start pounding in my chest, so loud I could feel it in my ears.
I managed to make it to the other side of the truck, my hands ended up grabbing onto the box of the truck, stopping me in my place. As I was about to race to the other side, someone beat me to it. Like a flash, Edward had made it toward Bella before the van hit.
Confusion and fear hit me all at once when the boy pushed the speeding van away from Bella, making it slam into the side of the truck, most likely leaving a dent. But the place Bella was and the place where she was supposed to get hit was fine, no scratch.
Bella's eyes went wide as she looked at Edward, terrified and confused. His hand that was around her waist slowly slipped away as he got up, his eyes meeting mine before he ran off again. As Bella followed him with her eyes I glanced back at the Cullens who were all staring at the scene shocked.
I tore my gaze away and rushed toward my sister who was slowly taking her earbuds out of her ears, wide eyes meeting mine as I fell down in front of her. I felt down her arms and stomach, trying to see if anything was broken.
"Are you okay?" I asked, worry laced in my voice.
"Y/N–Edward," But before she could finish her sentence we both got flooded with students, all asking the same thing. My brows were furrowed as I stood up, eyes connecting with all of the Cullens as they all stared at me. Bella saw it too.
Tumblr media
I sat in the waiting room of the hospital, playing with my fingers as I waited for my sister's checkup to be done. My mind was still playing the scene over and over again in my head, wondering if I had just imagined things. Did I hit my head? No, I couldn't have.
"Y/N?" I heard that all too familiar voice say. I didn't look up, hoping it was my mind playing games with me but when the boy sat down in front of me, dread again filled my body.
I lifted my head, eyes meeting his brown ones. I raised my eyebrows in a way of telling him to get to the point. He tried to hold back his smile, shaking his head like he always did whenever he found me amusing. But before he got to his point I cut in.
"What the hell is with your brother? Does he have some type of superhuman speed or something because that shit that he did only happens in the movies," Emmit was taken aback by my sudden outburst, opening his mouth to say something but again I cut in.
"And don't you dare say I imagined it or that I hit my head. It's two against one buddy, Bella saw it too. So you better tell me what the hell is going on because it's really fracking me out-"
"Whoa, easy there," He looked concerned now, his hands reaching out to me but after a moment of looking at the look on my face, he pulled his hands back. "How about when you come over on Friday I explain everything, yeah?"
After a moment of me staring at him, my eyes narrowing and my breathing calming down, I nodded. A small "Fine," Coming out of my mouth. I noticed Jacob making his way down the hall, looking around, trying to find the right room.
I excused myself and speed-walked toward Jacob. His eyebrows furrowed as I grabbed his shirt and pulled him into an empty hallway, away from Emmit.
"You know people say hi now instead of grabbing them like in the cave days," He said, making me roll my eyes.
"Something weird happened today," I started, ignoring Jacobs's comment. "When I got to the truck I saw something," My eyes went wide. "Something not normal-"
"What?" Jacob interrupted, getting impatient.
"I saw Edward Cullen, run towards Bella and like push the van away," I explained, motioning with my hands. "But he was like really fast, like first he was on one side of the lot and the next thing I knew he was by Bella," Jacob blinked, a smile soon forming.
"Very funny Y/N," He laughed. "Right, he pushed the van away," He said, using air quotes. I scoffed, blinking as I shook my head. But every time I tried to say something he would cut in before I got the chance. "I'm not stupid Y/N, you've tried this on me before,"
"What, no I'm telling the truth-"
"Yeah right," He pushed my face away, laughing.
"No Jacob-" Jacob cut me off by putting his whole hand over my face, he was looking behind me. I slapped his hands away as I turned around, only to see Bella talking with the famous Cullen boy himself.
"What do you think they're talking about?"
"Probably about how he pushed a whole van away from her,"
"No actually, cause he looks pretty pissed,"
"Yeah I would be too if I'd been found out-"
"Oh my god Y/N he didn't push a van away," I turned towards him, pointing my finger in his face.
"You weren't there,"
"Yeah and I still don't believe your bullshit story,"
"It's not bullshit-"
"Y/N, let's go," My dad said, motioning me over.
"You better stop reading your daughter superhuman stories cause she's believing them," I hit Jacobs's shoulder, making him wince.
"Ow," Meanwhile a curtain Cullen overheard what Jacob had said, stopping on the spot only to turn around and place his eyes on Y/N, who was arguing with Jacob, while her dad was pulling the two apart.
Tumblr media
The next day thankfully was a Saturday, since my dad still wouldn't give me back my truck I ended up dragging Jacob with me to a library. Ever since that whole thing happened with Edward I was starting to get more and more curious on how he got like that. Super strength and speed weren't normal, and I also knew what I saw, even tho Jacob kept telling me the opposite.
After sighing out almost everything that was supernatural and had the power of strength and speed I went back to Jacobs's place. I had told my dad I was spending the night so this way I could do research for the whole night.
I had made myself a place on the floor, sitting on a fur blanket and one of Jacobs's hoodies that I stole from his closet, the nights here were always freezing. And since his dad wasn't gonna be back today we were both in the living room.
I had my books and laptop on the coffee table, already halfway through the fourth book while writing down notes on my laptop. And with the fireplace lit it made it really cozy.
Jacob tho didn't find this as fun as I did, and after complaining for hours I let him sit on the couch and watch his show on the big screen. It was maybe 3 in the morning when I jumped up, waking up Jacob who had fallen asleep on the couch when I jumped down on top of him.
He groaned, slowly opening his eyes only to glare at me as I hovered over him, eyes wide. I got off of him when he sat up, trying to rub the sleep from his eyes, but before he could say a word I did.
"Do you remember those stories your dad used to tell us about your ancestors?" I asked, making him nod his head, confused. "Well I don't think those are just stories, I think that actually happened here. Which means that the Cullens must be the cold ones he talked about,"
"Think about it, they just moved here from Alaska of all places, they are all siblings but adopted, they are all pale as snow, they have wired coloured eyes, and they never come out when it's sunny. Edward can run super fast and is super strong. It all makes sense," I finished, out of breath. After a moment I sank down on the couch, waiting for Jacobs's reaction.
"I–how did you..." He stopped himself, confusion still plastered on his face. "There's no way those stories are true," He finally said, voice quiet, as if he was unsure.
"I know it's hard to believe but it all adds up," I said, sleep finally starting to settle in me. We were both quiet for what felt like forever before I finally spoke. "I'm gonna go to bed now wolf boy," I laughed, getting up and taking the giant fur blanket with me. Jacobs's eyes followed my form as I made my way toward his room.
Fear rose inside of him, he didn't know if Y/N was kidding or not. He didn't know if he should believe her or not. Finally, after a minute he laughed it off, deciding that this was some sick joke Y/N was playing, and made his way toward his room.
Tumblr media
I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel of my sister's truck, fear starting to slowly trickle inside of me. Today was Friday, and as promised I was on my way to Emmit Cullens' house. To be completely honest I wouldn't have gone if I didn't find out they were blood-sucking demons, which sounds like I should be saying the opposite.
Fear was the emotion I should be feeling when I turned on the road toward their house but for me, it was more of curiosity than anything else. My eyes kept drifting toward my phone which had the Cullens' address written in my notes.
Even tho Emmit insisted on giving me his number I refused. I couldn't have him texting or calling me, it was already painful having him at school, it'd be even worse if the boy started texting me while I was at home.
Soon a big house made its way into my view after seeing nothing but trees for miles. I could only guess why they had chosen a place so far into the woods. I pulled the truck into the driveway and hit the break before pulling the hand break up.
I grabbed my phone and my bag with all the things we needed for the project before heading toward the house. I sent Emmit a text telling him I was here before knocking on the door.
After a few minutes of standing in the cold the door opened, and to my surprise, it was Rosalie who was standing in front of me instead of the tall buff Cullen I was expecting. She narrowed her eyes before opening the door wider to let me slip past and into the house.
I kept my gasp in as I looked at the house, it was so open and looked just gorgeous. It had windows in all the right spots, leaving a clear view of the forest. If I was rich this would be the house I would go for.
"Swan, you made it," Emmit said as he made his way down the stairs, that same big grin plastered on his face. Even tho I knew what he and his family were I still wasn't scared of them, if they wanted to kill me I'm pretty sure they would have done so already.
"Cullen," I said making him laugh at my serious tone.
"I like this one," I heard Rosalie say from behind me. Surprise filled me as she walked past us and headed up the stairs. Rosalie never liked anyone, at least that was what everyone said.
"Are you just gonna stand there and gawk or are we gonna finish the project?" He asked, teasing me while raising his eyebrows. I glared at him.
"I wasn't gawking you pale idiot," This made him burst into laughter as he headed up the stairs.
"You never fail me, Swan. Don't change," He shook his head as we again walked up another flight of stairs before we came to a white hallway. I took in all the graduation caps that were hung on the wall, making more sense of how old they were.
He opened the door to his room and sat down on his giant bed. The room was plane, nothing on the walls and almost no furniture, other than a dresser that sat lonesome by the wall.
"Let's get this over with,"
Tumblr media
After a couple hours of us doing work and Emmit's nonstop talking, we were finally done. I had taken my things and got out of his room in a hurry. Emmit was right at my heels as I made my way down the stairs. I stopped midway as I saw the familiar face. My heart stopped and my face paled. What the hell was she doing here?
"Bella?" She turned around at the sound of my voice, her shock turned into fear.
"Y/N?" I made my way down the rest of the stairs, grabbing her hand and pulling her away. "What are you doing here?" Was her first question.
"I could ask you the same thing?" The previous week she and Edward had gone public which didn't surprise me in the slightest, tho I wasn't fond of the fact that she was dating a vampire that could kill and maybe even turn her whenever he wanted.
She was about to say something but stopped, looking at the place where we had come from before pulling me down the stairs and outside, closing the door behind us.
"Why are you here Y/N? You have to leave," I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I was doing just that until I saw you standing with pale face over there," I motioned toward the house with my head making her sigh in anger.
"Edward and I are dating I have every right to be at his house,"
"Not with his family around," She looked at me confused.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I cursed to myself in my head, I couldn't exactly tell her that her boyfriend was a blood-sucking demon. That would just be cruel, I had to get her to leave with me.
"You know how I feel about the Cullens-"
"You mean Emmit?"
"Not the point Bella. If I hate Emmit, I hate the whole family," She rolled her eyes, planting her hands on her hips. "Look I just don't feel safe when your alone with people you barely know," Her eyes soften, she reached for me, taking my hands into her own.
"Thank you for worrying about me but you really don't have to. I am perfectly safe here trust me," She seemed so sure that they could be trusted, I felt bad that she didn't know the truth about this family. I knew how stubborn Bella was so I just nodded, not pushing her to come with me when I knew it would do no use. And if she all of the sudden did get sucked up by the Cullens, at least I would be able to bring them down with her.
"Fine, but call me if you feel unsafe okay?" She nodded, a smile on her face as she wrapped her arms around me, pulling me into an embrace.
"Is that my truck?" She asked, pulling away from me, a knowing smile on her face. "Didn't dad say you weren't allowed to drive until you were responsible?"
"Hey, don't you go telling dad things he doesn't need or want for your information to hear," She laughed, shaking her head, hands in the air as a sigh of surrender.
"I won't tell," I narrowed my eyes before slowly backing away to the truck.
"Thank you," I yelled as I got into the truck. I watched as she headed back inside. Right as she was out of sight I let a sigh escape. I felt scared that she was alone with them, it didn't feel right to just leave her here when she didn't know what she just got herself into.
Tumblr media
Later that day when she had gotten home I tried to get her to talk about what all happened with the Cullens, but she refused to tell me anything. And that's when it started, Bella was slowly pulling further and further away from me, she used to tell me every detail about her and Edward but since the day they made it official, she's been as quiet as a mouse.
It bothered me a lot but what could I do? Forse, her to tell me everything? No. I never ask about her life and she would just think something was wrong if I started to now. So I let her pull herself away, I still kept a close eye on her and the Cullens but everything seemed normal. Too normal.
I started to leave the vampier stuff behind, it didn't matter what they were so long as they weren't hurting anyone. And even tho it scared the shit out of me I kept it to myself. I stopped mentioning it to Jacob which seemed to relieve him.
Over the next couple of months, Jacobs's home was like a second home to me, and his dad became a second dad. I would spend supper with them more than my own family and sleep over more than supposed to, but his dad never seemed to mind. He always said I was like a daughter to him.
And since my dad was always busy with the newfound murder cases that have gone up, he really felt safer if I was with the Black family and not home alone.
But then things started to get weird. I knew how much Bella and Edward were in love, despite the fact that I hated it, so it surprised both me and my dad when she barged into the house announcing that she and Edward broke up.
Me and my dad had exchanged glances before following her up the stairs where she started packing her things. She was rambling on and on about how she wasn't happy here and no matter what both me and my dad said it still did no use.
At this point, my dad was begging her not to go, but then she hit him hard with the same blow mom used, and then she stormed out, with me right on her heels.
"Bella what the hell was that?!" I yelled, causing her to stop in her tracks. I never yelled. I never got mad. And she knew that. But after a little, she put her things in the box of her truck. She opened the truck door but I slammed it shut, causing her to flinch.
"What do you think you're doing? You can't just full-on insult and hurt dad and then just leave. Who do you think you are?" I was angry, and she could see that, but she wasn't about to back down like she usually would whenever I got mad.
"Get out of my way Y/N," She said, trying to open the door again but like before I slammed it shut.
"Not until you tell me what the hell is going on,"
"Y/N. I don't have time for this,"
"I don't care what you have time for. Now tell me before I make you," She glared at me, I could see she was getting impatient.
"Get the hell away from my truck Y/N! You're always standing in my way and it's starting to piss me off, god just let me leave, I don't want this life. I get it you do but don't you come crying to me when you turn into dad with no one to love you and no one who you can love," I was shocked at her tone, at her choice of words, and the way she angry shoved me away, causing me to slip and fall on my butt.
I stared, my eyes filling with tears as she drove out of the driveway like it meant nothing to leave us behind. My dad ran out of the house and crouched down in front of me, the same hurt and shock was dispaled on his face as I'm sure was forming on mine.
Tumblr media
The next day Bella was back but she had a broken leg and her arm was slashed. At first, I wouldn't even go see her but after my mom practically dragged me over I ended up forgiving her.
After the summer and we were back at school, things between Bella and Edward changed and soon they ended up breaking up. I was relieved that the family ended up moving away, taking that pale-faced talking machine with them.
Even tho I hated the Cullens it still broke me that they left Bella here torn apart. Edward was her first love and her first boyfriend, so when he left she didn't know how to take it, and like I suspected she took it quietly.
She would sit up in her room for days, and those days ended up turning into weeks, and weeks into months. No matter what I tried she wouldn't leave her room. She wasn't talking to her friends and soon started to fail her classes.
I thought that sleep would do her good but boy was I wrong. The nights were the worst for everyone in the house. Almost every night I would wake up to the sound of Bella screaming, and every night both me and my dad would race to her room and wake her up.
Which only led me to sleep in her bed after she calmed down. This led me to stop having as many sleepovers with Jacob and made me try and fix Bella all on my own.
"You know she should really be trying to get over him," Jacob started as we sat in his truck on our way to go get food. This was the first time in a while since I'd been out, but that was only because Bella decided with a little of a push from both me and my dad to go out with her friends.
"You think I don't know that. I've been trying that for months. I think she really did love that pale-faced bloodsucker," Jacob scoffed.
"You still believe the tribe's story?"
"Yeah. Why else would your dad always tell us them? And besides, the Cullens aren't allowed on the reservation which says a lot," Jacob just rolled his eyes.
"You're so stupid," Before I could insult him back I saw something which made me yell for him to stop. Jacob stopped the truck, looking at me as if I was crazy before I jumped out of the vehicle. My eyes were wide as I crossed the road to get a better look.
"What the–is that Embry?" Jacob who was behind me let out a sigh before he nodded, putting his hands into his jacket pocket.
"Do you remember Sam Uley from when we were kids?" He asked. The name sounded familiar, causing me to think back to when we were younger. Then it hit me. Two years ago when I had come down for the summer, both me and Jacob along with the tribe had this bonfire, and at each bonfire Billy, Jacobs's dad would tell the story of the tribe. I remember Sam because he was always the one who would steal our food as a joke. Tho he always did end up eating it instead of giving it back.
"What about him?"
"Well that guy in the back is Sam," I snapped my head back to the group of boys who were at the edge of a cliff, some of them diving in with the push from others. I noticed a man in the back of the group, laughing along with the others, Sam.
"What the hell..."
"Yeah, that's what I said," He scoffed, shaking his head as he stared at the group of boys. "A little over a year ago Sam started this wired pack thing. He started getting more and more boys to join but I never thought Embry out of everyone would,"
Soon the rest of the boys started jumping into the water causing me to turn away. My eyes lit up in amusement when I saw the look on Jacob's face.
"Wait... are you jealous?" I teased, making him snap his head toward me. At his attempt to save himself, I burst into laughter which led to him hitting the back of my head.
Tumblr media
The next day I got woken up by the last person I expected, Bella. As I was half asleep in my bed Bella was going on and on about how she wanted to get out more and try new things. The second she mentioned dirt bikes I sat up, causing a groan to leave my mouth at the sudden force.
I sat in her truck with a headache as she drove the both of us to Jacobs, the truck's box loaded with broken dirt bikes she found at the junck yard. After a quiet drive, we finally made it, my headache only worsened as she jumped out of the truck.
I saw Jacob walk out of the barn, and only when he notched it was Bella and not me he started jogging toward her, a huge grin on his face as he pulled her into a hug. After they pulled away I saw their lips moving before Bella pointed toward me. With concern, Jacob made his way to my side of the truck before opening the door I was leaning on.
"You good Y/N?" He asked as I glared at him for disturbing my peace and warmth. I pulled my hood over my head before I got out of the truck.
"I'm going back to sleep, don't let Bella do anything stupid," I warned, pointing my finger in her direction before I made my way to the house. I said a quick hello to Billy and then collapsed on Jacob's bed, falling asleep.
Tumblr media
The next couple of weeks did good for Bella, she was slowly starting to heal the broken heart Edward had left. I could tell how good Jacob was for her and noticed the way she was slowly starting to laugh, smile, and open up again.
But I could also see the effect she was having on Jacob, I already knew that he had a small thing for her last year but now that they are together more often his feeling have time to grow. But I never said anything and just sat there as the two started to bond.
I was sitting on Jacob's couch, a book in hand as Billy sat next to me with the town's paper close to his face. It was just the two of us seeing that Jacob was out watching a movie with Bella and her friends. They had invited me to come but after I found out who was gonna be there I turned them down, much rather wanting to spend the day with Billy instead.
It had been a couple of hours since he left causing me to drift off to sleep. I must have been asleep for maybe 30 minutes before I heard the front door slam shut. I jumped up making the book I was reading a little ago fall to the floor.
Billy looked at Jacob with his brows furrowed, both of us taking in the way he was breathing heavily, and sweating like he had just run a marathon. I was about to stand up but the next words that came out of Billy's mouth stopped me.
"You look weird," Tho Billy didn't mean it like that it still came out sounding like he had insulted his son. As I took his words as concern Jacob took them as if someone had slapped him. His breathing started to become heavier and heavier causing me to look at him with worry.
I tried standing up to see if he was okay but Billy held his arm out, stopping me from making any movement. Billy looked at his son as if he knew exactly what was going on, and soon Jacob ran out of the house.
I followed him out, fear washing over me thinking that something bad had happened to my best friend. Billy was not far behind me, taking my hand and pulling me behind him as we both saw the scene unfold before us.
Jacob's heaving got worse and soon he looked up to the night sky, a sound that was like a growl coming out of his mouth before he ran, jumping into the air but his whole body changed. All his clothes were torn off as his body started growing fur and soon four legs appeared. I was too shocked to move as a giant wolf stood before both me and Billy.
The wolf let out a howl before running off into the woods. Even tho I believed the legends that Billy always told us I was still in shock after seeing my best friend turn into something that terrified me. We both were quiet for a long while before Billy turned toward me, his eyes soft but also concerned, not for his son but for me.

Grief (A Friend Indeed) Part 4
Hey, guys! This story is coming along at quite the clip. I have part 5 already done. I have the specific plot beats mapped out and you are in for a wild ride.
Enjoy more Lauren being awesome, Steve being a history buff, and liking alt rock. A bit of tw for allusion to cancer. It's where Penny and Wayne talk so if you want to skip it just know that Penny isn't acting herself in this chapter and is handling the grief badly.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
***
Lauren tapped her lip thoughtfully. “I suppose I’ll grant you Robin being better than me on the sheer fact that she’s your soulmate. But it was this close.” She held her finger and thumb so close together they were almost touching.
“Platonic,” Steve assured her. Lauren raised an eyebrow at him. “I’m not her type,” he added with a shrug.
“That’s fair,” she said. “I hate it when people assume that just because you’re opposite genders that you have to be romantically linked.”
Steve nodded. “As if other types of love don’t exist.”
Eddie winced. Steve caught his eye and blushed.
“I mean you can love friends and family, that’s not romantic, right?”
When no one answered, he continued. “Like one of the kids I used to babysit, Dustin. The one that built the CV tower. God I love that kid like my little brother. But I’m not attracted to him for fuck’s sake. All I’m saying is love is more then just romantic. Hell, the Greeks had a half of a dozen or so types of love.”
Eddie leaned forward interested. “Yeah, like what?”
“There’s love for the gods, love for your brothers in arms, love for your family, romantic love, and sexual love,” Steve said, naming them and counting his fingers. “I think there are more than that, but I don’t really remember.”
Oliver frowned at Steve. “Aren’t romantic love and sex the same thing?”
Steve shrugged. “You’d have to ask them, I don’t know. But I never thought so. You don’t have to be in love to have sex and you don’t have to sex with a romantic partner.”
Lauren launched into music and her tastes to quickly change the subject as Penny was starting to frown about the sex talk.
Eddie started talking to Gale about how she liked school now that she had finished kindergarten and resurfaced to Lauren and Steve’s conversation a few minutes later.
“You can’t honestly believe that Speak & Spell is the superior album,” Steve groused. “It had one hit on it and I wouldn’t even call it that.”
“I just think the band lost a little something when Vince Clarke left is all,” Lauren murmured.
Oliver sidled up to Eddie and nudged him with his elbow. “Do you know what they are talking about?”
Eddie just shook his head, enthralled. He had seen Steve passionate about sports before but this was new.
“Some Great Reward has some of the best songs on it,” Steve continued, unaware he was being watched. “God, I remember the first I heard ‘Lie to Me’, it was like someone understood me for the first time in my life.”
Lauren snorted. “You just used that one because it was the one that would raise the least amount of eyebrows.”
Steve laughed. “Maybe a little, but I was serious about that song. I must have listened to it a dozens of times my senior year of high school. But yeah, I really connected with that album.”
She hummed. She had a feeling it had to do with that girlfriend he brought up earlier, but she would wait until there weren’t so many prying eyes and listening ears.
“I’ll give you Depeche Mode,” she said. “But please tell you don’t like Tears for Fears, please...”
Eddie barked out a laugh. “Stevie boy here has both of their albums.”
Steve just shrugged. “I’m not about to feel shame for liking a good band.”
Lauren opened her mouth to argue when her mother interrupted.
“Steve, Eddie?” Penny called out. “You will have to be sharing a room.”
Eddie’s eyes went wide as if he hadn’t considered that.
“It’s okay, ma’am,” Steve said with his most charming smile. “We’ve shared a room a couple times before, we’ll be fine.”
Eddie nearly choked on his own spit. While that was true, he didn’t think it was a wise thing to say in crowd of strangers.
Penny blinked at him. “Excuse me? You’ve shared a room with Eddie before?”
Steve batted his eyelashes at her innocently. “Sure. Often times when playing their D&D game it’ll go late in the night and they’ll end up sleeping over. My house has a lot of rooms, but not that many. So we’ll often double or triple up in a room.”
Gale looked up from her toys she was playing with on the floor. “Just how many rooms do you have?”
Penny shushed her. “We don’t talk about that sort of thing in mixed company!”
“In addition to my parents room and mine,” Steve said steadfastly ignoring her, “three other bedrooms, plus another room in the basement that could be converted into a guest room in a pinch if I had to.”
Penny turned purple. “That’s enough of that talk.”
Wayne stepped in before his sister threw hands with one of his boys. And yes, Steve was his. He just didn’t know it yet.
“It’s not a sin to talk about money,” he said. “Not talking about money is how those in power stay in power. It’s why I’m in a union at the plant. Steve can’t help where he’s from anymore than you can. The size of his house isn’t going to change just because you don’t want to hear it.”
Penny’s jaw dropped. She looked around at her children and then ducked her head. She got up and headed for the kitchen. Lauren got up to follow, but Wayne held up his hand and shook his head.
“I’ll deal with her.”
Eddie stood there with pursed lips trying not smile. But it was hard. Wayne rarely stood up to Penny because he had known for years that she was Grandma’s favorite and her kids were treated like royalty. Not like him and Wayne and in his early years, Al.
His grandma was a sweet old lady who loved him, but he knew that Penny and her kids got preferential treatment because they lived close. It was hard not to be at least a little bitter about that.
“Go Uncle Wayne,” Lauren said with a low whistle. “Classism goes both ways and Grandma would have had a fit if she had seen how Mom acted today.”
Eddie let his smile break through. “Who’s up for some cribbage?” he asked pulling a deck of cards out of his leather jacket pocket.
All three of the Nelson sibling bounced up and Gale ran to the hallway to grab a cribbage board. She pulled out four pegs and then looked at Steve.
He held up his hands. “I’ve never played before, so I’ll just watch.”
Eddie cocked his head to side. “You haven’t? Huh, I thought everyone knew how to play.”
Steve just shook his head.
“Tell you what,” Eddie said, sitting down around the coffee table. “We’ll play a couple rounds of cribbage and then we’ll play something you know how to play.”
“Do you guys know rummy?” Steve asked wiping his hands on his front of his jeans.
“Yeah,” Lauren said with a grin. “That’s a fun one. We’ll play that one next.”
The other kids nodded and Steve settled into to watch the weirdest card game imaginable played on a wooden board with little plastic pegs like rejects from the Life game.
*
Penny rounded on Wayne but the seeing the look on his face caused whatever argument she had to shrivel up behind her teeth. Her shoulders slumped and she ran her hands over her face.
“Fuck, Wayne,” she murmured. “I’m sorry. I just have all this rage inside. She could have tried to beat it. There were medicines and things she could have taken to give us a little bit more time with her and she just didn’t… take it.”
Wayne wrapped her in his arms and held her.
“And we almost had two funerals this year,” she continued into his shoulder, “and I’m just on my last raw nerve.”
Wayne nodded. It was touch and go for Eddie those first three days in the hospital and every was waiting on baited breath to see if he would come out on the other side.
Hell, his favorite moment that week was Eddie’s surgeon staring Sheriff Powell in the face and telling him under no uncertain terms was he allowed anywhere near her patient until she was sure he was going to live. And then by the time Eddie was out of the woods, the government had pinned the murders on someone else.
Eddie stayed under for another couple of weeks so he never got to see how bad ass his surgeon was. But Wayne did, Steve did and they were both very grateful.
“I know, Penny,” he murmured, holding her close. “It’s been such a rough year for us Munsons. How’s Danny handling it?”
Penny snorted. “You’d think it was his mama that died, not mine with all the wailing and carrying on he’s doing.”
Wayne laughed. “Sounds like our Danny.”
Danny and Penny were Hawkins High sweethearts that moved to Ashland to be closer to Penny’s mom when she slipped and fell.
“He’ll be home from work in an hour or so,” Penny said. “You wanna help me make dinner?”
“Whacha making?”
“Just chicken and rice,” she said, pulling things out of the fridge and cupboards.
“Sure.”
*
Steve tallied up the points from their five games of rummy and then threw the pen down.
“Fucking hell!” he hissed. “You’d think I’d be used to getting skunked by fifteen year olds.”
Eddie laughed. “Nah, I’m pretty sure Oliver just cheated.”
The teenager was on his feet in an instant. “I didn’t!”
Lauren put her hand on his arm. “They’re teasing you. Chill.”
Oliver sat back down.
Then the door opened and a man stepped inside. He had curly red hair, a barreled chest, and an easy smile. This was obviously Danny Nelson.
He spotted Steve right off and made a beeline for him. “You must be Steve, Eddie’s told us all about you.”
Steve stood up and shook his hand. “Thanks for having me so last minute.”
“I’m just glad Eddie’s got someone looking out for him,” Danny said. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I can smell my wife’s delicious cooking.”
Steve nodded.
Soon they were all called for dinner and Steve was seated between Eddie and Lauren.
He could tell that whatever Wayne and Penny had talked about had sorted her out and she seemed a lot less hostile. But that could have also been the calming presence of her husband, Danny. He had tucked her into his side as they ate, and she leaned into his touch.
It made him grieve the lost of what his family could have been if his grandmother hadn’t died.
Maybe they still would have fallen apart, but maybe they would have been like this.
But he also knew that he had to be grateful for that money not because of the things he had gotten, but because it gave him the chance to find his own family in the monster-hunting party that were his friends.

And that's how my husband's family introduced me to cribbage too. It is sooo hard to follow.

500 Followers Event, figured I would do it right out the gate so I didn't forget lol. Also, be aware this is lengthy and I am so sorry for it.
How do you think the characters (Jean, Ningguang, and Sara) would react to a reader who listens to crime and history stories while playing, in particular crime cases such as Jack the Ripper, history stories such as the South Sea bubble and the Depression, and war stories such as the American Civil war or stories from the world wars?
How would Jean react to hearing about the devil of Whitechapel who paralyzed London and was never caught? What would she think of a world where monsters like Jack roam while her god is defenseless.
How would Ningguang react to the first financial crash in history...and the fact that so many people actually fell for it?
How would she feel knowing about just how often our world has financial crashes and just how many troublers it has with currency, and more importantly how would she feel knowing that such times could engulf the world while her God calls it home?
How would Sara react to the bloody and horrible nature of our conflicts, because while Inazuma's civil war may have been bad, I feel that it utterly pales in comparison to the sheer devastation and madness that was America staining itself red.
How would the ever loyal general feel knowing just how devastating and horrific the wars of our world can be, and just how plentiful they are? How would she feel knowing that her creator could be caught in one such conflict with none of them there to protect them?
I intend to do something like this where the Acolytes get tormented with gruesome facts and stories by a child reader who is a history buff and decides to tell them some of the tales about our world...and promptly gives all of them nightmares in the process lol.
I hope to get on the idea...sometime this or next year because I have a few other projects I am working on and I know just how badly I tend to procrastinate.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this ask, if you don't want to do it that is okay. Here is hoping I did everything right in regards to the rules in regards to this ask, but regardless have a great day and stay safe.
If you do end up writing that, I’d love to be tagged so that I can read it. Also, please don’t worry about your ask being troublesome, I’m honored to be getting an ask from one of my favorite SAGAU writers! Keep up the good work on your writing, I always love reading your posts! <3
Honestly, considering the way Teyvat works in regards to safety, and wars… I think it’s fair to say that many, if not all of the people there would be shocked by what life is like on Earth.
For example, if you decided to go out on an adventure by yourself, the worst you’d have to worry about would be hilichurls, considering that you aren’t going anywhere particularly dangerous.
On Earth, that simply wouldn’t work because there are a lot of bad people, and bad things that could happen to you if you were simply out on a walk at night. Especially if you weren’t in the company of another person.
If Jean heard about people who’ve done horrible things like murdering multiple people for… “The fun of it?”.
I can imagine her being repulsed, and incredibly concerned for your safety.
You may be the literal God of Teyvat, but would that stop anyone from randomly deciding to murder you, “for the fun of it?”
You might hear this idle voice line more often than the others:
“I do hope the Knights of Favonius are all working hard…”
She wants to tell you to take precautions against those with hostile intentions, to make sure you aren’t out to late… if only the code didn’t restrict her from voicing her thoughts.
For now she’d have to settle with reminding you of how safe Mondstadt was. With the Knights of Favonius, you would be safe.
With her, you’d always be safe.
Just… please be careful, alright?
The first time Ningguang heard about how terribly this world deals with money, she’d probably laugh.
“Oh, how amusing.” She’d chuckle, before realizing that it was your reality, instead of just a poorly made joke.
The idea of multiple currencies seems especially stranger to her, since Teyvat only uses Mora. (Disregarding the use primogems, which is only for you.)
One day, however, as you were talking while playing Genshin, she heard you bring up something called “inflation”.
You then proceeded to complain about how food prices where getting ridiculously expensive, and how your “fridge” had literally no food in it.
Ningguang seemed to freeze, being brought back to her early days as a child.
She had been through similar struggles, but knowing that her God is going through financial issues?
That her God is suffering because of the undeserving world in which they reside?
Preposterous.
“There were over 60 million casualties from World War 2…”
The voice droned on, as another daily commission was completed.
Sara’s face blanched, taking in the numbers.
60 million.
That was well over the number of citizens living in the entirety of Inazuma.
“The war was notable for the Nazi-sponsored genocide of the Jewish people…”
Genocide of people?
Why?
Her hands shook around her bow, as you guided her to shoot a hilichurl, directly in the head.
Sara heard you sigh, as the monotone voice was silenced.
Your divine voice spoke over the background music of the game.
“Third war I’ve had to research this week, interesting, huh?”
This was… considered an everyday occurrence for you?
Another shot, the hilichurl faded to dust.
You lived in a world where wars like that frequently happened-
She steeled herself, finding resolve as she struggled to keep shooting the hilichurls.
Sara would find a way to bring you to Teyvat, where you wouldn’t be in any danger, ever again.

❤️Pairing❤️:Jay x Jake
Length:Long
Part 1
Part 2 (coming soon)
Tumblr media
Jake stood nervously at the door of a certain apartment, his palms got sweaty, threating to make the books slip from his hands despite the tight grip, his throat went completely dry and his body couldn't stop shaking despite how hard he tried.
It wasn't as if he's never tutored fellow classmates. This time however seemed to push him to the edge,Jake knew the people he would tutor obviously, despite a wrenching gut feeling he got from being close to one of them. But ignoring all that,it shouldn't be too hard since he's done before, right?
Despite his worries,Jake lightly knocked on the door and patiently waited for it to open.He heard some shuffling from inside before finally hearing the sound of the door unlocking, swinging open to reveal one of the guys he would tutor.
He was significantly taller than Jake, pale and had a noticeable mole on his nose. "Hey Sunghoon,is Jay here?" the shorter greeted himself, the mentioned man nodded "He's been a pain in my ass"Sunghoon admitted, eliciting a short laugh from the australian "I bet he was"he responded.
As Jake walked in,he saw the mentioned man laying his head on the coffee table along with scattered pencils and a couple of college books.Sunghoon followed his tutor and sat close to him, before smacking a book on Jay's head, jerking him awake "Wake up you lazy ass,I told you not to party last night"the pale skinned guy playfully scolded him.
With an annoyed groan,Jay adjusted himself so he would be laying on the coffee table any more "Thank you for waking me up Sunghoon"the man sarcastically responded.Jake couldn't help but chuckle at the encounter "So are we ready?"he queried the two men, which he received a nod and a hum for a response.
"Please help me with english Jake, this guy can teach me for shit"Sunghoon begged Jake, resulting in Jay giving the finger, again, eliciting a chuckle from the aussie.
In the next few hours,Jake helped Sunghoon with english and Jay with physics,of course for the payment of 266,380 won (200 dollars) from each one of them.Besides,he was taught to never do anything for free. All though,he had this weird feeling about Jay,neither bad or good, just, odd.Maybe it's past history?Or maybe he's just in a constant state of panic.
Despite that,Jake couldn't help but take glances at Jay,even when he was teaching Sunghoon something. His buff arms looked so good in his black tank top,but he could feel the american also staring at him from time to time.
"Ugh I want a break"Jay groaned in exhaustion, banging his own head on the coffee table.Sunghoon laughed at the other's dramatic antics "Yeah I think we should take a break, what do you think Jake?"the pale man asked the australian,in which he responded by shrugging "We could take a 30 minute break"Jake uttered.
Sunghoon nodded "Good cuz I need to pee"he uttered before running to the bathroom, leaving Jake alone with Jay.It led to an awkward silence between the two of them.
Jake was too busy fidgeting with his hands for him to notice Jay disappearing in front of him, what he did notice were the american's arms wrapping around his waist, startling him.
"Jay what are you-"Jake tried to speak, only to hitch his breath as he felt his face being grabbed and forced to turn to Jay,evoking a pathetic whimper from the nerd "Jay what are you doing? We can't do that here"the australian whispered shouted, but the other didn't seem too bothered by it.
"Why not?Sunghoon won't hear us?"Jay stated, tightening his grip around Jake despised him squirming around "S-Still-"the aussie managed to grunt.
Jay's hand snuck under Jake's shirt, making the aussie shiver at the skin to skin feeling"Oh c'mon, don't pretend you weren't ogling at me this whole time"he stated. The tutor whined "Ok maybe I was"the man admitted weakly, which made the american's lips curl into a smirk.
Jay's other hand started to fiddle with the button of Jake's jeans "Do you want me to do it like last time?Where you were screaming out my name for the whole world to hear"he teased, finally undoing the zipper and sliding his hand over the other's boxers.
Jake, again, whimpered at his dirty talk "N-Not with Sunghoon here-"he tried to reply, only to let out a breathy whimper when Jay squeezed him over his underwear "Already hard Jakey?"he whispered in the aussie's ear, only leading to more muffled sounds from him.
"Look at me"Jay ordered, grabbing the other's face again and forcing him to look at him.Ignoring Jake's whimpers,he smashed his lips onto the aussie's into a sloppy kiss, tongue and all.The american's hands went to work, rubbing a digit onto the tutor's nipple with one hand and the other stroking him over his boxers.
Jake moaned into the kiss, bucking his hips forward at the touch of Jay's palm.He was so easy to get horny and melt under someone's touch, especially the other's ministrations. The physical contact felt like lightning,it heated up his entire body as if it was set on fire, all while trying to muffle any sinful sounds from spilling out.
"Look at you pup~ All worked up because of me~"Jay chuckled lowly after pulling away from the heated kiss.He had left Jake panting like a dog, cheeks red with heat and eyes leaking tears from the overpowering sensations he was feeling.
In an instant,Jay flipped the other to the ground, using his elbows as support to hover over him "Fuck~ You look irresistible~"the american cursed under his breath. He gently grabbed Jake's hand and put in if his own hard erection the tented his sweats"Look what you did to me pup~"he chuckled breathlessly.
Jake's mind became mush from all the stimulation he received, and was guaranteed to receive more in a few seconds.Jay took the younger's hand off himself, instead propping it above his head, tangling his fingers with the other's "Open up"the american ordered the aussie.
The australian lazily parted his lips, prompting the man on top of his to push his tongue inside for another heated kiss.Jake let out a small cry, using his free hand to grip Jay's dark hair.
Jay's other hand traveled to Jake's waist, parting the tutor's legs so he could settle between them.Their clothed bodies flushed against each other into a burning embrace, the aussie let the older take complete control of him, humming at every touch he felt.
A sudden moan ripped from Jake as he unintentionally rolled his hips forward, rubbing against the other's erection, but Jay didn't pull away.Instead, the older grabbed his thighs and continued the grinding motion, eliciting low groans and moans from both of them.
"Hey sorry for taking so long-"Sunghoon rambled as he walked towards the living room, only to stop in his tracks when he saw the two making out on the floor.Jay and Jake stopped why they were doing, pulling away from the kiss and looking at the younger.
Sunghoon stood there, frozen from the shock, but the shocked expression was later replaced with a tiny smirk on the side of his mouth, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall.
"Can I join you?"

*~12 Days of Confusion~*
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Im so happy I managed to get this done in time for Christmas. Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did writing it! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays~!
Word Count: 9.3K (Hot damn)
Crewel looked across the table, staring at his newly legal daughter (A part of him preening in happiness at being able to proudly claim such a fact). They and Grim had spent the first week of the winter break in his home picking out Yuu’s room in his home and making plans to decorate it to their liking. Something that would make the space all the more welcoming when they came home with him officially for their second try at a summer break.
What had been framed as a lovely new family moment was stopped when Yuu remarked the room would be a lovely early Christmas gift. Crewel simply asked what Christmas was. Yuu stopped short, staring at him with a blank expression before dropping his book of fabric samples. They stated they needed to do something, their phone being pulled out and typed on at a frightening speed.
Now his child had spent the last few days pouring over various party rental services and odd emails with animal supply chains.
He sighs, sipping his coffee and looking from the corner of his eye to Grim, the dire beast having joined Yuu in whatever elaborate prank they were scheming up with an almost laser focus. He was even practicing a summoning spell of all things.
Crewel places his mug down, “Puppy. I know you're focused on surprising your friends by visiting them. But you still…haven’t told me what Christmas is.”
Yuu doesn't look up from writing in their mini planner, “It's a holiday.”
“...” Crewel sipped loudly at his rum-laced coffee, hoping Yuu would understand he was waiting for them to continue. When they don't,  he rolls his eyes, reaching across the table and closing the planner to gain their attention, “I need more context than that, puppy.”
Crewel pulls the planner away as Yuu reached to reopen it. He tilts his head, raising an eyebrow at the growling teen in front of him. Once they stopped he tapped the planner on top of their head, “Speak.”
Yuu rolled their eyes, leaning against their open palm and waved their other hand around as they explained, “In my world it's a Pagan winter holiday that was commercialized by Western society in the 1950s or something for reasons I didn’t care to learn out. Just know, I’m doing a funny, Kalim agreed to pay for the stuff-”
“About that. Stop taking money from the Asim boy. At this point, I can only call it bullying how much you’ve managed to get from him.” Crewel mentally marked down ‘Pagan’ as something for Trein to ask Yuu about later, the two history buffs can spend a few hours chatting about it so he can get nice and New Year's drunk.
“I’m not taking money from Kalim…I’m asking for it and he’s simply giving me what I ask for.”
Crewel huffs, rolling his eyes so hard his head moved in the motion before he trained his eyes back onto Yuu, “Same thing, puppy…”
“Anyway.” Yuu reaches over, snatching the planner from Crewel’s hands and opening the book. They slap it to the table, smiling as they gestured for Crewel to read it over, “I’m going to be in and out of the house delivering Christmas cheer to my lovely friends over the next few weeks, whether they like it or not.”
He looked over the blocked-out days, twelve was a strange build-up time. He assumed he didn't know how to celebrate Christmas and the dates were important for reasons he didn't understand. But, looking closer at what was written, he sighed and stood. Walking to his kitchen liquor cabinet he mused in his head. He loved his child, he truly did. But, he would never understand why they couldn't spend one holiday without causing a chaotic scramble.
☆~12th Day~☆
Malleus was not rushing. He'd deal with his grandmother scolding him for running through the halls at a later time, a later time when his lovely child of man wasn't waiting for his presence. Later, he would wonder why he didn't just teleport to the heavily guarded mirror chamber in his family's castle, but for now he could only smile seeing his lover waiting patiently for him.
He barely slows his strides, only coming to a stop as he scoops Yuu into his arms, holding them close and spinning them both in his embrace. He pulls away from their neck to press a kiss to their lips. Only when Lilia coughs does he realize how long he's been kissing them.
As they pull away, Yuu takes a deep breath, face red from lack of air and the intensity, “Hey, Peligroso…missed you too, babes.” They laugh, pressing one last kiss to the purring dragon's face before they pulled away, waving to the three retainers standing just off to the side, “Hi guys!”
The rest of the Diasomnia crew waved with pleasant smiles, each in various tiers of noble-looking winter wear to protect from the large open archways of the mirror chamber. Well, everyone was waving except Sebek. But Yuu would give the crocodile half-fae a pass. The poor guy was clearly shaking so hard he almost seemed to be vibrating in the cold, arms locked tight to his body to keep some form of warmth.
Yuu snickered, looking away as Sebek's face soured, knowing they were laughing at his shivering, “Ok, let me do this fast so Sebek doesn't freeze and die.”
“HUMAN, YOU'RE TRULY SLOW IF YOU THINK THIS WOULD BE ENOUGH TO-”
Yuu had already started to push away from Malleus's hold before Sebek even opened his mouth, alerting the dragon fae they were trying to leave his embrace. While he pouted, he still put them down as they wished. Yuu pulled a pitch pipe from their jacket pocket, blowing on it sharply enough that the note made everyone in the area jump.
Smiling, Yuu snapped their fingers to the mirror, a dozen of green and black suit-dressed men marching from behind it in perfect lines of six. They didn't let their friends have a moment to question, breaking into a song accompanied by the drummers playing in an unfamiliar pattern, “On the 12th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...” They spread their arms wide, gesturing to the lines of drummers beside them, “Twelve drummers drumming~...”
Yuu smiled, dropping their arms as the drummers continued in their beat, “So anyway, I'm gonna go greet Granny Draconia. Enjoy your gift Malleus, you get them for the rest of the day!” They shouted over their shoulder, walking deeper into the castle without them.
Malleus looked after them in confusion. While the song and the gift were delightful in their own right he was…confused. What is Christmas? Why drummers? Why twelve of them?
Lilia speaks from beside him, his whisper somehow heard over Sebek's yelling for the musicians to stop, “Malleus, were you supposed to gift Yuu something in return?”
By the Seven, was he!?
Panic flickered over his expression as his thoughts raced. Oh Lords, was he meant to also give a gift of 12 drummers? Did he need to gift more drummers? Other musicians? What was Christmas!?
Malleus rushed after the now sprinting figure of his beloved, “Yuu! Yuu! Come back, we must speak about this gift!” He knew he'd easily catch them, the real battle was getting them to talk.
☆~11th Day~☆
Azul was happy to be home, he truly was. What he wasn’t happy about was acting as an extra eight hands for one of his mother’s smaller, more family-focused restaurant locations as a waiter. Why he couldn’t be in the back and cooking was beyond him. His mother had stated she wanted everyone to see just how handsome her son had become. Something that continued to mortify him as she pulled him front and center to her friends and their children.
The newly crafted Bubble Swimways were nice, finally allowing abroad students safety from the harsh winter currents and the ability to return home for break. Jade and Floyd were more than ecstatic to be able to spend the winter holiday with their family again. Azul was as well, of course…But hearing the two eels cackling behind their hands at his misery from their booth, Azul wished he had the school given power to teach them a lesson…
His stormy mood only grows worse at hearing the sea glass chime of the door opening, knowing it was potentially either an old schoolmate or one of his mother’s friends. He turns only to freeze, a genuine smile growing on his face once he fully recognizes the person in front of him, “Yuu-”
“SHRIMPY~!” Floyd had swam so fast he was only a blur, quickly wrapping around the small technicolor body of a Shrimpmer Yuu. The eel giggled, nuzzling into Yuu’s face before pushing away to look at them clearly, “Ah~, You really are a shrimpy!”
Jade swam over, smiling as he reached out to tug playfully on one of the teal antennae sprouting from their head, “A rather dangerous shrimp at that.”
Azul had to admit, Yuu was a very dangerous shrimp as a mer; A Mantis Shrimp. He cleared his throat and moved his body closer to the mini-reunion, “I believe I saw them first you two…”
Floyd rolled his eyes, a scoff turning into a hiccuping laugh as he swam away, Jade not far after him as he placed a hand to his chest, “Our apologies, Azul. Please, enjoy your shrimp.”
Yuu swims forward, spinning to show off their form and posing, “So~? Am I good looking or would I need to come with a side of fries for you to order me off the menu?”
“Hm…” one of Azul’s tentacles reaches out, wrapping around their tail and flipping them upside down before placing them back, “I would ask what grading system they're using; you're rather small. Not to mention how much you cost. Good shrimp aside, if the price is high I would expect decent fries as a side dish at least.”
“WOW.”
“But! If it were you, I'd order every time.” Azul couldn't bring himself to care that they were in public, pulling them close to press a kiss to their shoulder. His lips trailing up their neck as they giggle before he kisses them properly for a few moments. Pulling away, he keeps his arms and a few tentacles wrapped around them, “What brings you here, my pearl? I'm not upset about the visit, but you didn't even call.”
Yuu holds up a finger, gesturing behind them to a group outside of the restaurant. Azul made note of eleven mer swimming in, each with a flute or recorder in hand. He watches in confusion as Yuu pulls a pitch pipe from their cleavage, flinching a bit as they blow into it so close to his face.
“On the 11th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...” Yuu leaned back from Azul’s arms, gesturing to the musicians playing in time with the strange melody Yuu was singing in, “Eleven pipers piping~...”
Azul looked at Yuu's smiling face, confusion clear in his expression, “What?”
Yuu kissed Azul's face, waving over the twins to pull them away, “Just think of them as free entertainment for the day. A gift from me to you~.”
“Yuu, what is Christmas and why did you rent me the most unbalanced ensemble?”
He tried to hold onto them, he really did. But the Tweels were faster than him, tugging Yuu clean from his suckers and all laughing as they swam around the area away from him and his questions.
“I-GET BACK HERE!?”
☆~10th Day~☆
The Isle of Woe wasn't an actual place to vacation, but thanks to his sisters wearing their parents down, Cater was free to spend winter break with his boyfriend. Cater worked equally as hard to convince Idia to help him make his idea a reality. Their moms would get along amazingly! Their dads could work in silence away from everyone else and claim they were bonding when asked later. His sisters would be all over Ortho, he was adorable and so high-energy!
And, as he expected, once the Diamond family crew was welcomed to a secured STYX-sponsored rental home, their families molded together perfectly.
Idia sighed, typing at his desk with lightning speed, “I admit…this team match is killer. I honestly couldn't have thought of it even with a guide.” He looks over his shoulder, smiling as he watches Cater on his bed taking selfies.
The redhead smiles, winking at his phone before looking over to Idia, “Told ya babes. Cay-Cay knows how to match people up! Plus…” He pulls his phone closer, doing minor editing on his photos before opening his Magicam, “We get left alone from our families for a few hours per day.”
“That is nice…I do miss hanging out with Ortho…But your sisters are…really loud though…”
“Tell me about it…” Cater taps at his phone with a focused expression before he raises an eyebrow to his boyfriend, “Ok, seriously. I know you joked about having the fastest Wi-Fi in Twisted Wonderland, but is it so fast it's putting my tags in before I even type them?”
Idia snickered, turning back to type, “Nah. That was a joke…the AI text bot though…”
“The what now?”
Idia’s computer makes a ping, a simplified animated version of Ortho jumps around excitedly. The large icon of a video icon shaking in a speech bubble attached to the chibi.  Accepting the video call, Ortho waved gleefully on the screen.
“ Nii-San! Come outside and bring Cater-San, we have a guest!” Just as fast as Idia had answered, Ortho ended the call.
Cater rolled off the bed, stretching his limbs with a groan, “Well, let's go see them. They came all this way to visit after all.”
“Cater, I don't have friends who actually know my name and your family signed NDAs to not tell anyone about this place. I have no idea who came to visit.”
“Aw…You know who came to visit…” Cater smiles, shaking his head as the horror slowly overcomes his boyfriend's face. He grabbed onto Idia’s hand, tugging the mumbling taller boy out of his chair and toward the door, “Come on.”
Walking into the ‘Commons Area’, Idia and Cater watched in amazement as a group of men were jumping around and performing parkour on the surrounding ledges and stray floating platforms. Each were in what appeared to be STYX-issued jumpsuits and wearing high-tech-looking boots. Idia racked his brain, finding the boots' design familiar as Cater took his phone out to record.
“O.M.S! This is so cool! I have to get this for my Cam~!”
The single blow of a pitch pipe brought the room to order. Yuu, who was just to the side of them now with Ortho in tow, smiling at their confused faces. Sharing a glance with their robotic friend, they started to sing together.
“On the 10th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...” Yuu and Ortho gesture to the performers, the men jumping in a practiced manner, “Ten lords a leaping~!”
Cater ooed and awed, holding his phone in one hand to snap his other in place of clapping, “So cool! Did you get these guys as an early New Year's present?”
Idia looked at the leaping men, watching them double jump using the boots, “What is Christmas…? And why are you here?”
Ortho floated closer, smiling and clasping his hands together, “Yuu called me saying she wanted to give us a gift! They explained their idea and I used one of your scrapped invention ideas, Nii-san! I just fixed a few things and here we are. Isn't it cool?”
Cater laughed, moving his phone to catch as many of the ‘leaping lords’ on video, “Totes cool! Do you think I can get a pair of those boots, Ortho?”
“Sure!”
Idia looked at Yuu, feeling unease at their smile, “...How did you get here?”
Yuu smiles back, whispering under her breath so that Cater and Ortho couldn't hear her over their gushing, “I'll never tell…”
☆~9th Day~☆
Harveston was always beautiful in the winter. Busy. But beautiful. Epel sighed out, reaching to a tree and twisting an apple from the branch. Taking a bite from the treat, reaching up with his free hand to pick another apple for his basket.
He had been sent out by his mother to gather a number of apples for a batch of emergency jam. A gift idea for the gift-giving party Yuu had invited them to. Kinda short notice if Epel was concerned, he only had a week to find a bunch of presents for their massive group of friends/acquaintances and their younger siblings. Who even has a party on the 24th of all days?
The peace was broken, hearing his mother calling for him all the way back at the house. He wasn't taking that long to pick apples was he? In brief panic, he managed to grab a few more before dismounting his ladder and rushing back. But to his surprise, he found his whole family outside, a familiar black-furred dot among them being hugged and fussed over.
Epel smiled, picking up speed, “Yuu!” He shoved the basket into his cousin's arms just in time to slam into a hug with the magicless mage. Both of them laughing as they tried to overpower and swing the other off their feet.
He only pulled away as his father jokingly stated they were going to hurt themselves if they didn't stop. Epel kept his hands gripped to Yuu's shoulders, “What're ya doin’ hur? Ah thought Ah'd see ya on the 24th, not at mah house!”
Yuu giggled, always loving Epel's accent in its natural state, “I come with a gift, my country friend.” They gesture behind them, Epel finally taking notice of the nine elegantly, but still warmly, dressed women.
“...” Epel leans forward, whispering to Yuu, “Ya know ah like boys, right?”
The prefect didn't answer, pulling out a pitch pipe from seemingly nowhere and blowing into it, calling the woman to attention. Yuu takes the position to construct them, keeping them in tempo as they sang.
“On the 9th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~. Nine ladies dancing~.”
Yuu and the ladies do a bow, prompting Epel's family to clap and cheer for the mini-performance. Epel's aunt had walked up to one of the dancers, commenting on the quality of their skirt covers.
Epel walks to Yuu, raising an eyebrow and whispering under his breath, “Why did ya bring a buncha ladies as a gift? What am ah suppose’ ta do with a buncha ladies?”
“I don't know, Epel.” Yuu spoke in their normal tone, not trying to hide their conversation and calling attention from the others, “Maybe one of them will teach you how to fucking respect women.”
One of the older dancers raises her hand, smiling as Epel's cousin plays with the pom-poms attached to her hair, “I can do that!” She nods at Marja, beaming at the older woman, “I have three boys at home.”
“OH! That's a handful!” Marja laughs, gesturing to the town hall, “Let's get you ladies inta the hall. We can get the neighbors all together and teach ya gals some Harveston dances!”
Epel watched in confusion as his family, Yuu, and the dancers all made their way to the town hall. Leaving him in confusion as questions started to arise in his head.
“...Wait a minute…Yuu! What's this Christmas thing!?” Seeing how no one had even turned around at his yell, he started to run after them with a scowl on his face, “...Yuu!?”
☆~8th Day~☆
The Sunset Savana never got snow. Except that one year, but that was later exposed as a political attack. So, sometimes Ruggie forgot about the holiday season. The weather was the same as always, food was his main concern as always. If it wasn't for the yearly banquet his village took part in at one of the bigger settlements, he'd really treat the new year as another day.
But, since going to Night Raven, he's made it his personal mission to bring in a big haul of treats for all of the village kids at every break. Though he's lost the magic of the ‘winter season’, doesn't mean the little rugrats he took care of needed to lose it.
So he was a whole new shade of surprised when he walked out of his humble home to a large crowd. Pushing through his neighbors, he blinked in confusion at the eight finely dressed women milking eight massive cows. Looking over, he stared as a number of kids took turns gently petting at a herd of baby cows in a makeshift petting zoo.
“...” He looked to one of the people beside him, “What-”
“Ruginald!”
The name made it easy to tell who was there. He smiled, opening his arms and accepting the hug from Yuu, “What are you doing here? Don't tell me I'm late for your party. You said the 24th.”
Yuu pulled away from the hug, “Oh, it is. This is just a fun thing I'm doing leading up to it.”
“The last time you did a ‘fun thing’ like a third of the school got food poisoning.”
The violent shushing Yuu did was plenty to make Ruggie shut his mouth. He raised an eyebrow, folding his arms in amusement as he watched Yuu pull out a pitch pipe. His ears pressed against his head just lightly at the tune.
“On the 8th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...”
Yuu gestured to the eight women in a line. The group of them managing to squeeze milk into their buckets in time with Yuu's song.
“Eight maids a milking~!” They looped their arm around his shoulders, whispering as they both watched the women pass around the buckets of milk to people asking for them, “This isn't a hand out. I just thought you'd appreciate the free milk for everybody more than anyone else would…”
Ruggie watched the kids petting the calves and hounding their parents for a sip of the fresh milk, smiling as they got scolded but promised a glass once they had safely pasteurized it, “Yeah…Yeah, I do. Thanks.”
The wholesome vibe hadn't ended once Yuu had gone home later that night, a fresh donut bitten between their teeth. His grandmother had made batch after batch of donuts for everyone to enjoy along with their fresh glasses of milk. A kid had sleepily tugged on Ruggie’s shirt, a mug of warm milk in his hands as he quietly asked him what Christmas was. Only when he tried to reply did Ruggie realize Yuu never fucking told him what a Christmas was…
☆~7th Day~☆
Vil wasn't happy with Yuu's surprise party invitation. He already had a strict schedule to keep during his break and it was hell trying to plan a free day. But, curse him if he ever missed an event his Onion was excited to host, even if it was just to critique it. However, when they called and stated they also had a surprise gift to bring him, he had simply dropped the location of the condo his and Rook's family had chosen to vacation in. Mild weather, warm yet not hot and lushed rolling hills surrounding them.
Rook's siblings were odd to him, though just as endearing as his boyfriend. Somehow refined, yet Vil could see that same feral energy Rook had in all of their eyes. His eldest brother, Bishop, somehow being an even more flirty version of his brother. The early 20's man had kept a constantly filled glass of wine since breakfast that morning, taking turns waxing poetic about the most asinine things with Rook.
Vil would take sitting with the two poets over the younger siblings and their pocket knives or his father, Rook's parents, and Rook's eldest sister bemoaning their youth good-naturedly.
He only noticed a lull in Rook and Bishop's conversation as they both turned to the open balcony doors. Vil followed them as they both stood to look over the railing.
The view made Vil almost choke, nearly falling off the railing as he leaned over to yell, “What are you doing!?”
Yuu stood at the edge of the small pond in the front yard of the property, smiling and waving as seven swans were seen swimming, “Hi~!”
Rook waves back, beaming down to the freshman, “Bonjour, mon vieille amor!”
Bishop sipped from his glass, “Ah~. Such a cute little sister you have, Vil.”
“They're not- Yuu! Get away from those swans, I've warned you that they're dangerous heathens!”
Yuu simply held up a finger, pulling out a pitch pipe to blow a single note before they started to sing, “On the 7th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me-Ah!” They quickly sidestepped a swan moving to bite at their leg. Grumbling as they gently nudged the large bird back into the water to swim with the others. Once the aggressive fowl was back to swimming peacefully, they turned back to the balcony, smiling and gesturing to the pond, “Seven swans a swimming~!”
Both Rook and Bishop start to clap, the two bold gold blondes cheering for the small performance as Yuu playfully bowed.
Vil groaned, clicking his tongue and tapping his nails on the railing harshly, “That was poor grammar. Now get up here!”
Yuu rolled her eyes, moving quickly as another swan swam out of the pond to try to bite them again, “Just because you had a traumatic experience with a swan doesn't make them evil!”
“I told you that in confidence! And, while it doesn't make them evil, it makes you a dimwit for not heeding my warnings!”
With a comical gasp, Yuu raised their voice louder as they entered the condo, “Mr. Shoenheit! Vil's being mean to me!”
From deeper in the house, his father's voice came from around the corner, “Vil, be nice to Yuu!”
“...” Vil turned to Rook and Bishop, expression in a state of stunned, “I'm an only child. I'm an only child.”
Bishop giggled, sharing a look with Rook as he raised his glass to his smiling lips, “Are you sure?”
☆~6th Day~☆
Riddle sipped at his tea, smiling as a new plate of cookies was placed on the table. “Thank you for allowing me in your home Ms. Trappola. It's very lovely.”
Helen Trappola smiled, waving off Riddle's comments, “Oh, it's no trouble! I'm just glad this one actually has friends.”
“Mom.” Ace huffed, pouting as his mother roughly messed up his hair.
Trey grabbed one of the cookies, smiling at Ace’s frown, “I'm more glad that you actually managed to get Ms. Rosehearts to agree Riddle could come…”
She just waved again, though her smile turned into a copy of Ace’s own mischievous grin, “Don't worry about it. Mama Trappola isn't the top cosmetic saleswoman of Fairest Wares without having exceptional persuasion skills.”
Ace mutters under his breath for her to not call herself ‘Mama Trappola’.
Riddle gave him a disapproving glance from the corner of his eyes. Sipping at the tea while grabbing a few cookies for his own plate, “Yes. Not only did you convince my mother to let me out of the house for a few hours, you also talked her into buying $400 lipstick…”
Helen smiles, winking as she snaps her fingers to shoot the small redhead finger guns, “And she's gonna look amazing in it.”
“Mom, can you leave?”
She responded with a swift slap to the back of Ace’s head, “Ok! You kids have a fun time! Just yell if you need more snacks!” She walked out from the living room, walking back up the stairs to give them privacy.
Huffing, Ace sipped his tea, “So annoying.”
Deuce clicked his tongue, stopping abruptly from drinking his tea and glaring at Ace, “Your mom is really nice, show some respect.”
Riddle and Trey spoke up in unison, “Indeed.”
Ace rolled his eyes, grabbing a cookie to gnaw on it in annoyance, “When is Yuu showing up? I'm sick of you guys ganging up on me.”
At the mention of Yuu, Riddle raised his head, “Oh! Ace, do you have cocoa? Yuu isn't fond of tea so they might appreciate a second beverage option.”
He nudged his head to the hall leading deeper into the house, “Yeah. The container should be on the counter already.”
Riddle stood to prepare the drink, raising an eyebrow as Trey followed him to the kitchen, “I think I can manage to make a pot of hot chocolate alone, Trey…”
“I'm just…supporting.” Trey smiled at the scolding glare Riddle shot at him, only to laugh when the short redhead didn't stop him from following.
While Trey and Riddle were busy in the kitchen, Ace and Deuce perked up at the knock on the door. Ace stands, smiling as he opened the door only to have it drop at what he saw.
Yuu stood smiling, six unknown adults behind them each with a small goose in their arms. The people walked in, brushing past Ace’s confused rambling and placing the geese in various locations before leaving. Yuu closed the door behind them, pulling out a pitch pipe and blowing.
Ace glared, gesturing to his living room now populated by a family of geese, “Don't you sing a little fucking song! Explain yourself!”
“On the 6th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~!”
Deuce cautiously reached a hand toward a goose beside him, pulling his hand away as it tried to nip at his fingers, “Christmas?”
“Six geese a laying~.”
Ace looked at the geese, eyes wide seeing a number of them resting on his mom's favorite couch, “Laying?”
Deuce called out to the kitchen hoping Riddle and Trey could hear him, “Rosehearts-Senpai!? Is there a Queen's Rule about geese!?”
There was a beat of silence before Riddle's voice called back, “Well, rule 365 does state that a rogue floating goose may stay in the home for the night but only during the winter and only if the teapot has been stirred counterclockwise. If that answers your question.”
“...” Deuce took the time to grab the teapot, spinning it a few times counterclockwise before speaking again, “I guess…but what do we do with them now!?”
“...Do with whom?
“The geese!?”
“...” There was a heavy clatter, as though something was dropped and barely caught in time, “There are actual geese inside!?”
Yuu grabbed a cookie from the plate at the table, smiling as Ace yelled from the couch.
“OW! One of these fuckers just bit me!”
☆~5th Day~☆
The past week had been concerning for Jamil. Azul and Malleus had sent him numerous messages and calls asking if he knew what Yuu was doing. The magicless mage visiting them and bringing strange gifts with no explanation. Malleus was particularly worried, unknowing if he was supposed to give them a certain gift in return. He had spoken to Yuu about it, only for them to instantly try to gaslight him into thinking they did no such thing. Like there weren't numerous eyewitnesses to back up such claims… So he just assumed they were finding ways to entertain themselves over the break (since they weren't being held captive this winter…).
So when Yuu came to visit him, luckily with no ensemble of musicians, he chose to not bring up the odd events. After bringing a tray to his room, sharing the drinks and snacks with his date-mate, they moved to the bed.
Though Yuu joked about it, Jamil was not going to do any kind of sexual act with them in his home while his entire family plus a ⅓ of Kalim's younger siblings were on the grounds. So instead they cuddled, holding each other in the warm sun from his window and almost drifting into sleep. Jamil breathed out, fully relaxed as he gently rubbed his thumb against Yuu's bicep.
“Oh…I almost forgot I have something for you…” Yuu reaches behind them, a hand digging into their back pocket and pulling something out. They grab his hand, placing a collection of something small and cool into his palm.
Jamil opens his eyes to look at what Yuu gifted him, eyes widening as he fully registers what it was. In his hands were five stunningly gold rings, each with artful designs carved in the metal, gemstones embedded on a few of them. They seemed to almost glow in his hands just from how shiny they were.
“I…Yuu-”
In his confusion, Yuu had also pulled out a pitch pipe, blowing into it but not lifting their head from Jamil’s chest as they sang, “On the 5th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...”
Jamil sat up so fast that he would have nearly launched Yuu clean off his bed if he didn't have an arm still locked around them. In the pause of Yuu's song, his sister and a number of the Asim children she was babysitting all sprang out of hiding spaces in his room. All of them yelling as loudly as they could, Jamil just barely made out Yuu's sleepy singing.
“Five. Golden. Rings~...!”
Once the song ended there was silence, everyone going back into their hiding spots. Jamil sat in his bed stunned with the rings still in his palms, “I…Where'd you-hold on. Get out of my room!?”
Jamil glares, watching as Najma exits his closet with a few of Kalim's siblings, more of the preteens giggling as they crawl out of other hiding spots.
Yuu called out, raising a hand to wave after Najma, “Thanks for the assist girlie~.”
Najma waved back, making sure she had all of her charges before closing the door slowly, “My brother doesn’t deserve you, bestie~.”
Jamil growled out, pointing at his sister in a threatening manner, “Get out.” He scoffed as Najma flipped him off before closing the door finally. He raised an eyebrow, looking at Yuu still resting contently on his chest, “Yuu, what the fuck was that? Where did you get these rings?”
“What rings?”
“The rings in my hand, Yuu.”
“Wow, Jamil, those are beautiful. Where did you get them?”
“If I didn’t love you, I would throw you into traffic…”
☆~4th Day~☆
Home was a sensitive subject to Leona. He had spent so much time at Night Raven over the past few years that it had become his own lesser version of home. Not really in the reality of the situation, but it was good enough at the time. But, after his overblot, and a few months of mandated therapy during the last summer, he actually felt happy returning home for winter break.
At the very least, the Sunset Savana only had one pest who wouldn't leave him alone that he couldn’t escape. Or so he thought.
Sleeping in his room, Leona groaned at feeling a weight sitting close to him on the mattress. When they didn't leave after a few aggressive hits with his tail he opened his eyes in annoyance. That feeling only grew seeing Yuu sitting on the mattress with a smile.
“Hi~.”
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
Cheka popped up from the bedside, eyes wide and brows furrowed in scolding as he pointed to his uncle, “Oji-Tan! That's a bad word!”
Leona scoffs, rubbing the back of his head as he slowly sat up, “What bad word? I said fudge…” He looked away from Cheka's pout, yawning loudly, “What do you two annoyances want?”
“Oji-Tan! We have a present for you! Yuu-Tan said I can help give it! Can we do it now? Please!? Please!?”
“For the love of the Seven, fine. Just stop screaming, you're two feet away from me Cheka.”
“Okay!” Cheka beamed up to Yuu, hands gripping onto the sleeve of Yuu's shirt dress as he jumped in excitement, “Yuu-Tan! I'm ready!”
Yuu giggled, grabbing Cheka and pulling him into their lap as a means to keep his energy contained, “Alright…” Pulling the pitch pipe from their pocket, they blew it carefully, keeping note of Cheka's still-developing ears.
Once the note was set, both Cheka and Yuu started to sing. Cheka louder than Yuu, only tripping up slightly at the unfamiliar word, “On the 4th day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...”
Just then the door burst open, four discontented-looking attendants entered the room with four large bird cages. Inside each was a loudly cawing blackbird, the sound making Leona's eye twitch.
“Four calling birds-”
“Why the fuck did you bring four Ibis birds into my room?”
“Oji-Tan!”
Leona clicks his tongue, ears pressed to his head as the birds kept up their noise, “I said Fudge. Answer me, Feral.”
“It's a gift. Now you won't have to worry about oversleeping.”
“I won't have to worry about sleeping, period.”
The sound of rushing footsteps managed to echo over the cawing birds. Falena slid into the open doorway, a beaming smile on his face and a few boxes of board games in his arms, “Oh good! You're awake, Leona!”
Leona puts his head in his hands, a growl easing into a frustrated yell. He wanted to go back to Night Raven…
☆~3rd Day~☆
Kalim bounced in his seat, smiling at the large box in Yuu's hands. He was so upset when he learned they had visited earlier that week, even more so to hear he had missed a fun prank they pulled on Jamil. But now, Yuu was back in the Scalding Sands with a gift in hand for him!
Yuu bit her lip, trying to keep her laughter down, “Are you excited Kalim?”
“Yes! Please, I wanna see what the prank is!”
Yuu can't help but laugh, placing the box down and slapping Kalim's overzealous fingers away from opening it, “You're the only Night Raven boy I know who's excited to be pranked. But, ok, I'll do this fast so you don't explode.” Out comes the pitch pipe, a note blown crisp and clear before Yuu sings for the nearly vibrating Kalim.
“On the 3rd day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...” They pull the lid from the box, showing three small-sized black and white spotted chickens. Each of them with a golden and burgundy colored beret affixed to their heads, “Three French hens~!”
“Ah~! Yuu. They're so cute!” Kalim stood, instantly reaching into the box and pulling out a chicken to hold. He giggled letting the young bird peck at his finger before it calmed down, “But what makes them…what did you say? French? What makes them French?”
Yuu scoffed, folding their arms and frowning, “Kalim, do you not see their delightful little hats? Do my efforts mean nothing to you?”
“...” Kalim looked closer at the chickens trying to see what his friend meant. It took him a bit, but he yelled as he realized, “Oh right! You call Florian ‘French’. Ok, I get it. Hahaha, thank you so much, Yuu! Can I keep these little guys? I think they'd love my aviary!”
Yuu shrugs, picking up the box of chickens as Kalim was already walking to said aviary with the last bird in hand, “I mean, go for it. I'll send you the bill for the purchase.”
“Are these really Florian hens? I didn't think there was a Florian chicken…”
“They're actually some kinda Shaftland breed.”
“Oh! How fun!” Kalim didn't get the prank. He also had no idea what ‘Christmas’ was. But Yuu was his friend and wanted to spend time with him, so he didn't mind the moments of confusion that normally came with the magicless mage. Plus, they were always fun to be around!
☆~2nd Day~☆
“Silver…Silver.” Yuu gently slaps at the ivory-haired man sleeping peacefully. Groaning, Yuu tries to shake Silver awake. Their plan wasn't going to work if the second year didn't wake up.
At another slap, Silver finally opened his eyes, blinking slowly as his brain refused to fully wake up. In his half-conscious state, his eyes managed to at least focus on the blurry black form beside his bed, “...Yuu?”
Yuu pulls out their pitch pipe, blowing softly so as to not startle Silver  fully awake. They opened their mouth, poised to sing only to struggle holding in their laughter as Silver whistled in response to the note in perfect pitch.
“...” Once calmed, Yuu started to sing, “On the 2nd day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...”
Silver blinked, almost like it was a frame-by-frame animation on the slowest setting, “...I don’t feel about you…that way…I'm sorry…”
Yuu snorted, a hand moving to cover their mouth in an effort to not laugh in Silver's face. As they got themselves under control again, they pulled out two small white birds from their coat. Placing them gently in front of the sleepily bewildered-looking Silver as they finished, “Two turtle doves~...”
The blink this time was so long Yuu had actually worried Silver had fallen back asleep. But, once again, Silver opened his eyes, earning a chirp from one of the birds as it nuzzled into Silver.
“Oh…thank you…they're lovely…”
Yuu petted Silver's hair, standing from their crouched position with a small smile, “Go back to sleep, Silver.”
“...Okay…” and just like that. Silver closed his eyes, breathing out a long sigh that set him back to lightly snoring as he drifted into slumber.
Only hours later, when Lilia returned from an outing with Baul did Silver realize that Yuu had actually broken into his father's home. With two birds at that…
☆~Last Day~☆
Yuu's surprise winter seasonal party had been wonderful so far. The rented cabin was massive, with plenty of space for all twenty-two of them and the secondary group of younger children running around. Though confused, the big brothers of the group couldn't deny that Yuu was correct in insisting the kids all join in their party. A Christmas Party, whatever that was. But for the past few hours, they had all come together to bake and decorate cookies. Decorating a large evergreen tree with sparkling blubs and tinsel ropes. Not to mention they were instructed to place their gifts under said tree. Now the kids were on the floor beside the fireplace, glue and other craft objects scattered as they made their own custom ‘stockings’ to hang along the mantel.
No one wanted to question it anymore. Not since giving up on learning why Yuu had felt the need to visit them for the past two weeks to deliver their bizarre gifts. Something that Jack was surprised to hear about, seeing how he hadn't been visited by Yuu at all. Only to regret such a statement as Yuu stood in front of him with a smile.
“Jack? Can you follow me outside, into the dark woods, alone?”
“...” Jack sighed. Whatever Yuu had planned, he wasn't strong enough to really fight it. Not after being force-fed cookies that were more frosting than cookie from his overzealous siblings. He turned to Trey, whispering under his breath, “If Yuu kills me, please make sure my siblings brush their teeth before bed.”
Trey smiled good-naturedly, guiding the wolf children to his own younger siblings with practiced ease, “I'll even make sure they floss.”
“I'm not asking for a miracle, Senpai…” Jack stood up, grabbing his coat to follow Yuu into the dark snow.
Jack followed Yuu through the cold fluff, huffing and tensing up more and more the farther they walked away from the cabin's light. He quickly pulled his phone from his pocket, sending a message to the group chat of the other first years, ‘If I don't come back, I love you guys.’
Sebek replies first, ‘Do you honestly think that human could kill you?’
Epel sent a single heart emoji before typing out a reply, ‘Sebek. Didn't yuu bust ur kidneys in a one on one?’
‘That event doesn't pertain to this conversation.’
Jack stops short, putting his phone back into his coat jacket as Yuu stops in front of a gathering of evergreen branches. He sighed, wanting to step away as Yuu pulled out a pitch pipe with what he could only call a sinister smile, “Oh Seven, please don't sing-”
The note plays clean and quick, making Jack's ears fold down at the noise.
“On the last day from Christmas, my true love gave to me~...”
Jack mutters under his breath. “What the hell is Christmas…?”
Yuu pulls a branch away. Showing a small clearing with a singular medium-sized Pear tree, decorated just as fanciful as the evergreen in the cabin. Jack looks into the tree with a critical eye seeing something moving around. While he would love to watch Yuu get spooked by a lone squirrel, he didn't want to deal with Yuu's scream potentially causing an avalanche.
“Uh…Yuu-”
“A partridge in a pear tree~!”
Once Jack clearly sees the bird in the tree he glares at Yuu, “How did you get this tree here?”
Yuu's smile quickly falls off their face, expression showing how annoyed they were, “Jack, you are being so fucking ungrateful.”
“No, tell me how you got this tree up here. Who helped you with this prank? It wasn't funny.”
“Ungrateful. I did this specifically for you. You like pears!”
“That bird looks terrified. What did you do to it?”
☆○~○☆
The walk back to the cabin was full of bickering, Jack holding the shivering Quail in his arms as he scolded Yuu for having the bird out in the cold. Once they both entered the cabin, Yuu slammed the door shut behind them and they shouted out.
“Leona! Get ya boy, he's being ungrateful!”
Leona didn't move from drinking a bottle of amber liquid. Seemingly trying to get drunk to block out the sound of the children squealing in delight. Ruggie however looked over, the snicker stopping as he looked at what was in Jack's arms.
“...Is that a quail?”
The bottle left his mouth before he could fully tip it upright, Leona looked to Jack as liquor dribbled down his chin, “They gave away another fucking bird?”
“OJI-TAN.”
“Fudging bird.”
Ruggie snickered, the yelling finally bringing the attention of everyone else to the new addition. But Ruggie was laughing at the indication that Leona had also been gifted a bird, “Another bird? You got some fowl gifts there, your Highness?”
Jack huffs, letting an excited Kalim run up and gather the bird out of his arms. The merchant heir quickly showing it to his younger siblings and Lilia as Jack grumbled, “I also own a pear tree in the middle of the mountains now. Don't know how they even got it up here…”
Vil groans from his seat, fingers rubbing at his temples and seamlessly taking the glass of water Rook hands him, “Yuu, enough of your games. What is this Christmas nonsense you've been going on about?”
Yuu pours a glass of sparkling grape juice for themselves, deciding to finally spill the holiday beans, “It's a really popular winter holiday in my world. Once I realized you guys didn't have Christmas here I just wanted to recreate one of my favorite songs. The Twelve Days of Christmas.”
Jamil mutters under his breath, mildly horrified at the idea of a 12-day long holiday as festive as the party was, “Oh Seven, please no…” Please don’t give Kalim any ideas.
Malleus speaks up, concern on his face as he wonders if he was supposed to be celebrating the past eleven days, “Was I supposed to gift you back an ensemble by the 12th day? You stated in your melody that a ‘True Love’ is the one gifting such things, this won't affect our agreement will it?”
Azul perks up, almost panicking at the idea that if he failed to give Yuu a proper ‘True Love’ Christmas present they'd break up with him.
Yuu giggles, waving a hand as a show for their lovers to calm themselves, “It's just a song, no wordplay magicks involved. And even if there were, I wouldn't let you guys go that easily.”
Ace clicked his tongue, rolling his eyes at the brief romantic declaration, “Whatever. The gift kinda sucks though, prefect. Who wants geese of all things?”
Leona freezes mid-drink, raising an eyebrow at Ace, “Geese?”
“Mon Roi and I received a delightful flock of swans!”
“Oh! Yuu got me three hens with cute little hats!”
Epel frowns, turning to face Yuu with a glare, “Why'd you gift me a bunch of LADIES!?”
Yuu held their hands out, calling to calm everyone slowly descending into a shouting match over what the actual ‘Gift’ was, “Ok…we're gonna do the last verse of the song and you all get to hear the wonderful gifts this dude gave to this poor woman over the course of twelve days.” They pulled out their trusty pitch pipe, smiling as they raised their finger to conduct, “When I point, sing what I sung when you got your gift.”
~ 🎶
“On the 12th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me~...”
“...Twelve drummers drumming?” Malleus sang in mild confusion, Sebek almost yelling the phrase as support for Malleus's soft tone. Lilia giggled out the tune, eager to hear the full gift list.
Azul frowned but easily mimicked the melody from before with the twins joining him in glee, “Eleven pipers piping.”
Cater and Ortho joyfully sung their part, Idia between them mumbling out the tune, “Ten lords a leaping!”
Epel flinched, not expecting to be pointed to already, “Nine ladies dancin’?”
“Eight maids a milking?” Ruggie let out a nervous laugh, was the tempo getting faster?
“Seven swans a swimming.” Vil crossed his arms, glaring and saying ‘a swimming’ with a bite as Rook sung it with a grin.
“Six geese a layin’!” The remaining Heartslabyul four all sang out in unison. Riddle taking what little time he had to get the phrasing and melody from Deuce and Ace and give a neat performance.
Jamil sat with his arms crossed, refusing to participate, but was instead dogpiled by a number of Kalim's siblings. Most being the ones who helped Yuu with their prank on him almost a week ago.
“FIVE! GOLDEN! RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGS!”
“By the seven- Four calling birds- oh my fuc-” Leona and nearly everyone else too close to the pile-up of children had either covered their ears or leaned away from just how loudly they had ‘sung’.
Kalim laughed, clapping in time with the beat of the foreign song, “Three French hens!”
Silver sat in mild confusion, eyes widening as he remembered, “Two turtle doves…”
Yuu points to Jack, smiling as they teasingly sang out, “And~...”
“...” Jack sighed, ears flicking in annoyance before clicking this tongue and singing through his teeth, “A partridge in a pear tree…”
Yuu cheers, “Yes! I never thought I'd miss hearing Christmas music…” They clap, smiling at their friends' confused faces, “That was perfect! Grim, show the nice people the treats they've won.”
Grim perked up, leaping out of the arms of one of the children, dancing on his toes briefly in a happy jig. “Finally! Watch and be amazed by the Great Grim!” He sucks in a large breath, cheeks puffing up before he lets out a massive ball of fire into the air. The blue flames twist and turn, swirling into a sphere before falling to the ground.
A brief shout of panic passes over the group, everyone moving to shield the children from the potential fire spread. Only to watch as the fireball disappears on contact with the floor, a massive red sack left to bounce once into the air. On the second impact, the top burst open as the weight of it shook the cabin, revealing treats and a plethora of toys. Grim slumps over exhausted. He had been practicing that summoning spell for weeks and it still took a lot of him.
Yuu points to the bag of treats, smiling at the awestruck children, “Those are for you guys, happy holiday.” They all leave their respective siblings' protective embraces, descending upon the bag and nearly climbing inside it to see just how many toys and treats were free for the taking.
Idia blinked, uncurling himself from around Cater as Ortho took his shield down, “Man…talk about a mega item drop…those kids hit the jackpot on holiday loot…”
As everyone calmed down, Deuce looked up from counting on his fingers, mentally figuring out just…how many people and birds in total were ‘gifted’ in the song, “Wait, you said one guy is gifting all of this…to one woman? On the same day?”
“He actually gifts them multiple times for each day. The first eleven are repeated multiple times until you get to the 12th day and then you get the whole song one last time as a gift.”
Riddle realizes why Deuce was distressed. Eyes widening at the number that appeared in his head at the final amount of ‘gifts’, “That's-that's too many birds! Too many birds and too many people, where in Twist is he getting them!?”
Idia groans, sinking into his seat in despair at the very thought of so many people, “Better question is what are you even gonna do with all those birds? Most of them just sound like weak deco items…”
Rook hums, “Well…40 pheasants sounds lovely. Especially for the winter months!”
Vil turned to Rook, gently taking the wine glass from his hands, ignoring the Florian laughing at his action, “Rook…there wasn't a single pheasant mentioned in that ghastly song. I think you've had enough for tonight.”
“Oh mon roi! How you care for me so! But, I fear I must correct you. A pheasant is a bird with a golden ring around its neck. I would assume the five golden rings are five pheasants.”
A moment of silence passes over the room. Yuu huffs into their glass, raising an eyebrow at Rook, “I think they're just golden rings, Rook. The song is already weirdly bird heavy as is…”
“But, they are all birds, mon vieille amor?”
Epel speaks up, “So…ladies dancing?”
“Cranes.”
“The drummers?” Lilia tilts his head, genuinely curious about the new information on the song.
“Woodpeckers most likely!”
Ortho perks up, eyes almost glowly in his excitement, “Oh! I just did a search. Heron is also known as a ‘leaping lord’ in some parts of the world!”
Floyd pouts, “Eh? What kinda bird is a piper then? Don't they all whistle?”
“Possibly a sandpiper…if we're going by name alone…” Azul pushed his glasses into place. The song…somehow got worse. These were far too many birds…
Leona scratches the back of his head, “Calling bird could be any bird then…”
Vil taps his chin, looking into his cup as he thought, “The song is full of poor grammar. Who's to say it was calling originally? Maybe…coying? Colly? Four coally birds makes the most sense, word-wise at least…”
Yuu frowns, putting their glass on the counter in an aggressive fashion before pointing at Rook's smiling face, “Ok, wise ass. What kinda bird is a ‘maid a milking’ then?”
Rook shrugged, “I would guess a magpie or other dairy-cultured bird.”
Everyone watched as Yuu grabbed the whole bottle of sparkling juice, scowling as they stomped to a lone armchair and folded their arms, “This is why we got fucking divorced…”
Cheka instantly turned his attention away from the bag of gifts he was digging around in, instead scolding his pseudo aunt, “ YUU-TAN! THAT'S A BAD WORD!”
Yuu pouted but still called to Cheka, “I'm sorry, Cheka. I'll do better, just enjoy your treats ok?”
Lilia chuckles, floating over and sitting on the back of Yuu's chair, “You said this was your favorite song. I'm guessing there are others then, would you like to share them with us?”
That was the magic switch. Yuu quickly pulled their original phone from their pocket, eyes glittering as they connected to the music system, “Yes! I can tell you guys all about the Christmas Time Curse and Mariah Carey!”
“I'm sorry, Christmas Time Curse!?”
“Is this Mariah woman the one doing the curse or somehow worse than the curse?”

Ace Info Compilation part 10: Standing Up
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace standing up to people in positions of authority who are objectively stronger than himself is a running theme: he accuses Trey directly of enabling Riddle (calling him pathetic), stands up to Riddle’s tyranny in Book 1 despite knowing his painful history, is the first student in Book 3 to try (and fail) to stand up against Azul, defends Epel from Vil in the opening of Book 5 and argues with Vil outright about his strict lifestyle rules, getting poisoned for his efforts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace also tells Leona that it is “typical” for him to be “skipping out on the actual work,” saying, “Aren’t you supposed to be a housewarden? How about showin’ some leadership?” to his face.
Even after Leona proves himself Ace says, “I admit that’s helpful, but still…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace is also harsh with Riddle outside of the main story, despite being his own housewarden: when Riddle loses his temper at a ghost during phantom bride (the ghost called him short) and sets it on fire, Ace scolds him for ruining their plans, saying, “You’re the lousiest suitor out of anyone who’s come so far!” despite Riddle’s apology.
Ace has a habit of saying the quiet part out loud in general, even when he is speaking to an upperclassman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He insults Trey’s singing to his face and behind his back, teases Leona about Cheka, says that, for Diasomnia, Lilia is unusually friendly and complains about Jamil’s food in front of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace also pressures Rook to admit that he actually voted for Neige during the VDC as a devoted fan rather than because he was impressed with Neige's performance.
When Vil offers to compensate the VDC team for the prize money that his overblot made them lose out on, almost every team member immediately promises to donate their portion to Ramshackle dorm, with Ace following with, “talk about peer pressure.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deuce also struggles with the pressure to donate (“That money would go a long way for my family. But still…”) and Ace assures him, “Oh, I’m taking the money…I’ve been eyeing some new clothes and shoes lately.”
In exchange for keeping his prize money, Ace says he will treat the prefect and Grim to lunch at the school cafeteria. (Deuce offers lattes and dessert.)
Jamil says that Ace is closer to the third-year students in the basketball club than himself and Floyd and Ace himself says that he gets along well with upperclassmen from other dorms, so it is possible that he is just not intimidated by older students in general, thus why he is always able to speak his mind so freely (possibly a result of his older brother’s influence).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riddle might be the only person who see call Ace out on his casual way of speaking to his upperclassmen, saying that Ace’s use of phrases like “stuff my face” is not any way to speak to his housewarden, he uses “uncouth language” and he wishes that Ace would dress properly more often as he can look like “quite the gentleman.”
Ace does, however, use honorifics with his, upperclassmen, referring to the 2nd- and 3rd- year students as “first-name-senpai.”
He refers to his fellow 1st-years just by their first names and he calls Sam, “Sam-san.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He usually just calls Riddle “Housewarden,” but he will sometimes say “Housewarden Riddle” as opposed to Deuce’s “Housewarden Rosehearts” (every member of Heartslabyul on the main cast refers to Riddle in a different way.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace teases Jack for looking so out of place as a “buff and brawny” person from Sunset Savanna at Heartlsabyul.
Jack points out that he is from the Shaftlands, to Ace’s surprise (“I thought everyone from there was all flashy and dapper and stuff.”)
Riddle insists that he sees “nothing amiss” about Jack being in the lounge and scolds Ace for being so narrow-minded about other countries and cultures.

Picnic Dates, plus two - Dr James Wilson x peds!reader
Description: You've got a lunch date, but it's not with James.
word count: 1.8k
Masterlist
REQUESTS OPEN FOR PEDS!READER - request here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Y/n skipped down the halls of peds, smiling to herself. Each room she passed she waved to the patients inside. Holly, Trevor, Milton, Magnus, Bea, Molly, Jo, Josh. She knew all their names and knew how they should look, so that if anything was even slightly off she could spring into action.
She reached the last of the rooms on the hallway and pulled out a pink glitter file from her stack. Truthfully, she wasn’t allowed to decorate her patients files, but it turns out if you are not swamped with malpractice lawsuits and actually have a good bedside manner with your patients, Cuddy can be quite lenient.
“Hello y/n!” the little girl jumped up from her bed showing off her finding nemo pyjamas. Her blonde curls fell in front of her face, being batted away by her tiny hands.
“Good morning, Lisa! And how are you doing this fine day?”
“I good!”
“Can you give me anything more specific?” Y/n teased, raising her eyebrow.
“I feel really, really, really, really well!”
“I am so pleased to hear that Lisa. I am just going to do a quick examination, not that I don’t fully trust your own medical degree.” Lisa laughed and her parents lovingly looked at how happy their daughter seemed despite her condition. That was all down to y/n.
Lisa had become a regular of the hospital, brought in many times with asthma attacks so severe each trip to the hospital seemed to be a death sentence. Every time, y/n was there so Lisa could wake up to a familiar face. Stroking her hair and talking to her so she didn’t have to come to terms with her scary surroundings.
As y/n went to leave the room she was stopped by Lisa’s mum.
“Hi Dr y/l/n, I just wanted to say thank you.”
“It’s nothing, it’s my job.”
“No, it’s not. Examining her, diagnosing her, that’s your job. No one’s making you sing her songs or play her games. So…thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Y/n left the room, her heart feeling just that bit warmer seeing that little girl babble to her parents about everything that was in her tiny head. She felt a presence next to her and her heart practically set on fire when her eyes met his.
“Hi.” It was soft, like she was sharing a secret.
“Hi. How’s Lisa doing?”
“She’s doing well, she’ll be home this afternoon. Just in time for SpongeBob.” Wilson raised an eyebrow. “Her favourite.”
“Now, remember last week when we went to that deli in the town over and you loved that sandwich. Well, I went to the shops and got all the ingredients and made us two of your sandwich with chips, coleslaw, and everything. My office, 12?”
A sorrowful look crossed her face, and she seemed to retreat into her mind.
“You have other plans—it’s fine, enjoy.”
“Believe me, that sounds amazing and usually I would love to but—I can’t.” Wilson nods but his gaze is on the floor. He shoved his hands in his pockets. She grasped his arms in a silent question that he is okay with this. He covered her hand with his own.
“I’m okay.” Despite feeling unsatisfied with his answer, she picked up her files and made her way down the corridor. Every few moments she turned back around to look at the oncologist who now was weakly kicking at the floor.
---
The door to House’s office slams open.
“At what point in each marriage did my wives start retreating from me.”
“Catherine of Aragon, 3 years, and 4 months. Boleyn, 2 years, and 11 months.”
Wilson falls down onto the chair in his friends office.
“Please don’t call my ex-wives that.”
“I’m a history buff, what can I say, Henry.” House smirks.
Ignoring the ill-placed humour, Wilson continues.
“My point remains that they were all after a lengthy period of time—”
“And/or directly after you cheated.” He looks towards House’s smug face, disapprovingly.
“But neither of them were after 2 months.”
“Trouble in peds, oh I’m sorry paradise.”
“I don’t really know. It just feels like she doesn’t want to spend time with me.”
“Well, she is a paediatrician, so every day she meets people more emotionally mature than you.”
“Ha ha. Just today she blew me off for lunch, and, thinking about it we haven’t had lunch together at the office in a week. What if she’s pulling away? What if she doesn’t love me anymore?”
“What if she’s busy?” House still refused to look up from his Gameboy.
“She’s not, I checked. She just has 10 patients she’s monitoring, none of which are severe.”
House paused his game. “You checked her files? I’m rubbing off on you. Boy wonder oncologist, we may have found your bad bone yet. Maybe we should get a noun to replace your last name as well.”
“I’m going to confront her.” Wilson abruptly stood up and opened the door.
“The word you’re looking for is communicate.” Wilson went to leave. “WAIT! Wilson-“ House picked up the phone “It’s for you. It’s God. He say’s you’re bad at relationships.”
Wilson angrily left the room and slammed the door which echoed with the cackles of his best friend.
---
Y/n opened the door to leave her office, armed with a pasta salad and an iced coffee.
“Do you want to break up?”
Y/n was startled by her flustered boyfriend who had jumped out in front of her.
“What? No! Why would you think that? I love you of course I don’t want to leave you.” She reached up to cup his cheek and used her thumb to stroke under his eyes.
“I can’t believe you were thinking that! I can’t believe I made you think that! Oh, baby I’m so sorry.” After her rambling she threw her arms around his neck, ladening his neck with so many kisses as way of apology. Wilson chuckled before completing the hug and squeezing her waist.
She pulled back from the hug.
“Why did you think I wanted to leave you?”
“Well, lunch. You didn’t want to, again, and we haven’t had lunch together in about a week. And in all my past relationships, there comes a time when they start to retreat,” He scratched the back of his neck “I just thought it had come sooner than usual.”
“It’s not that I didn’t want to, I couldn’t.”
She bit her lip and tried to find the right words before blurting out. “I’m seeing a 12-year-old.”
Wilson simply couldn’t find the words.
“Please—”
“Oh, not like that. Come with me.” She took his arm and began to lead him to the elevator.
---
They stood in front of the window that showed a boy, small for his age, curled up on the hospital bed playing with two power rangers. His room was devoid of balloons, toys, cards: the decorations that covered every other peds room.
“That’s Lucas. He came in last week with pneumonia. He’s on antibiotics and he’s improving. His dad died when he was 2 and his mum works constantly to make enough money. She can’t visit him a lot, she only managed 2 visits last week. He’s never even left his house. And now he only knows two things: he’s sick and he’s alone. This hospital can look like a big scary place when you’re a kid so –”
“So, you eat lunch with him every day so he has at least one visitor.” Her boyfriend finishes her sentence flawlessly.
“I’ll bet you even tell him that you choose to be with him, probably say that all the other doctors are boring.” She laughs at how well he knows her. She steps back from the window and pushes open the door.
“Lucas, there is someone very special I want you to meet. This is Dr Wilson.”
Lucas perks up at seeing, not only his favourite doctor, but also another boy enter the room.
“Is he your friend, Dr y/l/n?”
“Yes, he is, he’s my special friend.”
“Mummy always said Daddy was her best friend. Do you love him like my mummy loved my daddy.”
“Observant kid.” Wilson quietly remarks.
“What do you have for lunch today, Dr y/l/n?”
Y/n sits down on Lucas’ bed. “Actually, Lucas, today Dr Wilson and I have—"
“Have to tell you that I took over Dr y/l/n’s clinic hours so she can have 3 more hours to spend with you. She’s been nagging me to have more time with you for weeks!” He rolls his eyes jokingly. “I’ll leave you two to it.”
She turns away from Lucas to mouth ‘Thank you’ towards him. In return he waves as if to say see you later.
---
the next day
“I have the tickets, Thursday night!” House limped down the hallway flanked by his exasperated friend.
“Can’t.”
“Liar. Your girlfriend’s ignoring you so unless you’ve already found the next next potential Mrs Wilson, you’re free!”
“Actually, we –”
“Boys!”
Y/n slid into the two’s line of vision. Her pink scrubs not as cheery as her smile. Wilson quickly checked his watch.
“y/n/n, baby, isn’t Lucas waiting.”
“Who’s Lucas? You guys open now?”
“Actually, he gave me a message to give to you two. He told me to invite to lunch, and I quote, ‘your boyfriend and the mean cane guy he’s always with’”.
Wilson beams at how chipper his girlfriend seems at this news.
“Wait, both of us? You two into foursomes now? I mean I respect it.”
Rolling her eyes at House’s comment. She grabs the two by their arms and drags them to the ‘lunch’ room. They stop in the doorway, seeing Lucas who was looking into a gigantic bag of food but who quickly retreated sheepishly when he was caught.
“I retract my previous joke.” House looks down, embarrassed. He goes to approach the boy but is halted by a pressure on his ear as it was held by the smiling paediatrician. She yanks him back to her and harshly whispers “Be. Nice!”.
“Yes ma’am.” Happy with this response, she releases him. She then turns towards her boyfriend. “I even managed to get an order in from that deli. Do you like it?” she fiddles with her fingers nervously.
“Yes. Very much so.”
She skips towards Lucas but is brought back by Wilson’s hands on her waist. They turn so they are nose to nose.
“I love you.” “I love you too.”
Before their lips could touch they are interrupted.
“Ew gross!” they glare towards the bed to see that the juvenile remarks are not coming from the 12-year-old but rather the overgrown 8 year old.
---
The four ate lunch and talked and each managed to bring back a little joy for the bed ridden child. Even House slowly warmed and began to care for the boy. Every so often y/n would get up to check his stats but also to fluff his pillows, bring him his toys and juice. She cared so deeply and wanted every child who passed through her care to feel special and heard.
Wilson sat back and watched the scene unfold, happy to be an observer. And as he watched the woman, he loved be a mother for a child who wasn’t even her own, he couldn’t help but imagine her with their own.

Johnny Cage and Kenshi (with a touch of Jonshi) Headcannons
Why? because they make me ill and once i claim characters as my favorites i hold them like a squishmallow
| JOHNNY CAGE |
Has freckles. like everywhere, in all the places. Also has a tooth gap. A lot of his visual “imperfections” are edited out and that really got to him early in his career. Now he rolls with the punches and proudly says that his imperfections are some of his best bits
Total history buff. Almost became a history teacher before acting and martial arts movies were a serious avenue for him. 100% would go back for a masters in history “But im no good at school and have like zero time :/ ”
(Hits with the transgender-fication beam) Hes just like me and i dont even need to elaborate because i know some of yall agree with me.
Very ADHD. Probably got diagnosed after the divorce and events of story mode and immediately went “Oh shit that explains so much.” I say this as an actor with ADHD
Do not let him talk about sci-fi movies because he will talk your ear off. He has a list of his all time favorites (the original Dune is at the top because of nostalgia, not because it was good and thats his stance on it till the end of time)
| KENSHI TAKAHASHI |
Loves soft textures and compression clothing. Helps him feel more grounded when he’s dissociating and doesn’t have the element of sight to pull him out.
Has opinions on certain books. Not much for mainstream genres but does enjoy a good scifi horror or essay. Smoke gifted him a CD player with audio books once because he knew Kenshi missed the physical aspect of books, and to this day those cds sit with not a scratch on them.
Not much of an infodumper, prefers to kinda just sit with his opinions and write/record them for himself. But when Johnny has a hard time sleeping, he’ll just start talking for as long as he can stay awake.
Cold as a corpse. Mans is freezing has always has the thermostat on 70. Not very touchy but when people feel his hands they immediately jump up 6 feet bc of the temperature
His coffee is pitch black without even an ounce of sugar in sight, and to add to the horror he once called unsweetened green tea “a little too sweet” while Ashrah and Smoke called it the most bitter concoction known to mortal kind.
