#but there are elements to each piece that trick me into sharing them

I had a friend come to visit last week, and one evening as we sat around drawing together we decided to both draw that scene where Pippin finds Merry after the battle.  I’ve drawn the scene before but not in a while and I’ve changed the design for both the characters.  And even though I am still getting over that art block from this year I had fun.  (Also that Merry-with-braids post has been doing well lately so I decided maybe I should finish off today’s art dump with this one since he has braids here as well.)
Tumblr media
#merry#pippin#the man the myth the legends#one shiny#my trash#heck yeah bromance#the worst sort of trouble#/end classification tags#you guys i don't know WHY it has been so hard to draw lately and i kind of hate everything i make#but there are elements to each piece that trick me into sharing them#and then i come back and only see the mistakes and then kick myself for sharing it#it's the worst with the commissions because impostor syndrome comes at me for ''charging people money for this garbage''#at this point i'm just ignoring the criticism side of my brain because otherwise i'd never show anybody any drawings#but that does mean i don't fix some of the mistakes that i would have no problem noticing and adjusting otherwise#so apologies for basically everything i've posted this week lol#i am aware of many of the problems with the drawings but am too lazy to fix them#at least this is really the only one i mind because the others were comedy doodles#on a more positive note i keep drawing hobbits with bigger and bigger ears which makes them look more and more unique and charming (i think)#on a neutral note i finally caved to the intrusive thoughts and added fur in the arches of hobbit feet to explain why they walk so quietly#i know it's cursed but nobody minds it on cats and dogs so maybe you guys will let it slide on hobbits too#anyway#so ends the week of activity after months of radio silence#i shall now go back into semi-hibernation and i'll see you guys again whenever fate decides it shall be so

Creator Spotlight: @still-life-mostly
Muhammad Hardi Saputra, familiarly called Hardi, is a self-taught miniature still-life photographer and stop motion artist. His work is a mix of craft, comic, and fantasy elements. It aims to bring peace and tranquility to the viewers through their imaginations. His childhood dream was to create pictures that would make people happy just by looking at them. He has found a way to do exactly that by combining the beauty of miniatures with the art of photography. The stories he tells through his photographs are full of life and give the viewer a sense of nostalgia. He loves crafting and creating art that has a story behind it. To him, each piece has a life of its own, and he allows it to speak for itself. He says, “Art is a collaboration between the artist and the viewer. The work you do is only a part of the journey.”
Check out our interview with Hardi below!
How did you get your start in photography and stop motion?
Tumblr media
My hobby started when I was still a kid. I was fascinated by claymation on TV. Around the year 2003, when my sister got her first smartphone (it was Nokia 3650), I borrowed my sister’s phone to make a stop motion with my tiny robot pencil toppers. I didn’t use photos and turned them into videos. Instead, I used the r cord and pause button immediately. So the stop motion is basically a compilation of 0.5 seconds videos. It was really fun. Then when the smartphone got faster, my pause and record button trick didn’t work anymore. My stop motion video-making ended, except for my photography.
Then after I got into college, I found a photographer sharing his works on Tumblr, and I knew that day that I wanted to be a photographer. Then, my parents bought me a laptop and camera around 2013. I started shooting some photos. When I saw a looping cinemagraph video on Tumblr, my old stop motion video ideas sparked again. So I researched on YouTube to figure out how to make a looping cinemagraph GIF just by GIMP. After some trial and error, I managed to get it working. So I used my laptop to make my first ever looping cinemagraph GIF video.
Later I ran out of stuff to make a cinemagraph, so I experimented with stop motion with any objects I could find in my bedroom. After a while, I realized I could make animations using paper. These small moments are captured on my Canon Eos M., and this is how my photography journey began. So, I thank Tumblr for giving me the inspiration and a platform to share my stop-motion GIFs.
What do you wish you knew when you first started out creating art that you know now?
I have learned that investing in a new laptop would have been a better choice if I had to choose between a laptop and a smartphone. I used to buy a new phone every two years, and as a result, I didn’t have enough money to upgrade my laptop. I realized that my photo and video editing must be faster, so I can have more time to make creative choices like what kind of color should I tune, which object I could animate and so on. This new smartphone only solved the social pressure to keep up with what everyone was doing.
Now, I saved my money to upgrade my laptop so I can create more content in less time. I also stopped watching smartphone reviews because they influenced me to buy a new smartphone. I decided to learn more skills like 3D designing or photo and video editing on YouTube instead.
What is the hardest part of your process?
I use resin 3D printers to create my subjects. The process of printing them is really simple, but it does take a lot of physical work to get the prints looking their best. Sometimes they got like blemishes that need to be sanded down or parts that need to be glued on. These steps aren’t exactly my favorite parts of the process, but the results are totally worth it!
How has your style developed over the years?
Tumblr media
My first stop motion GIF is this blue butterfly. I put my camera on a table and made a butterfly out of paper. It was initially quite challenging because the camera moved when I pressed the shutter button. Luckily the touch screen can also trigger the camera, so I touched the screen lightly so the camera didn’t move. After that, I got a loop of about 1 second of motion.
Tumblr media
Then, I made another butterfly. This time I use the photo levitation technique in my stop motion video. I use wire and remove the wires frame by frame. GIF with floating subjects takes much more time to finish a frame than the first one. However, the result is really rewarding because it’s more natural looking.
Tumblr media
Right now, after I got my 3D printer, I chose astronauts as my main subject. At the moment, only the secondary subject moves, such as flying rockets, clouds that are moving across the sky, and ocean waves. In the future, I look forward to making a moveable astronaut, probably a robot, because they have joints. Or a wiggling alien or any kind of sci-fi space creature that could be explored in a galaxy far away.
Have any of your projects surprised you with its outcome?
Tumblr media
The project that surprised me the most with its outcome is this Astronaut Diner GIF. The color looks like what I wanted. I didn’t know that adding checkerboard tiles could make me feel so nostalgic. I sanded, painted, and glued every piece of the tiles. It felt like building a miniature interior set.
My favorite part of the project is the coffee steam. I use a tiny piece of thread from a cotton ball to make it look like the steam coming from the cup. I animated the steam using Photoshop. I chose to animate the steam because I thought it would be an interesting way to add movement to the image. I didn’t think it would look very realistic if no movement existed.
Biggest pet peeve as a photographer?
Batteries. Sometimes when I was shooting some frames, my camera or flashlight battery died because I forgot to charge them before I started shooting my stop motion photos. I have to restart taking photos frame by frame because the camera angle will lightly change after I take out the battery.
What does your work set up look like?
Tumblr media
My photography setup is just a table with one flashlight in a softbox and another flashlight in an umbrella. I use a Canon Eos M camera to take photos. I enjoy taking photos in my bedroom because it’s straightforward to set up. For example, I just set up everything on the table and snap away! It’s also very easy to clean up because I just have to put everything back in place when I am done. The setup in that photo is the setup that I used to create this article banner photo.
Who on Tumblr inspires you and why?
John Carey of @yesterdaywasonly. Because I probably wouldn’t know Tumblr if he didn’t make a Tumblr profile for me to follow. I follow him because he shares wallpapers, and I am still using photos from his website as my laptop wallpaper.
Thank you so much for stopping by, Hardi! For more of his creations, check out his Tumblr, @still-life-mostly!

Four of some of my favorite tropes in one fic!!!! I must be spoiled. I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of Vampire!Ateez especially after Deja Vu. And i have such a strange fascination with cults. Seriously the first two chapters are amazing and I can’t wait to see what you have in store. Do you have a yandere type picked out for each of the boys or just a general yandere vibe? And hopefully Felix survives through it all. It’s such a creative idea!!!!
me too! i've probably watched way too many cult documentaries in my life, but i find them so fascinating. for this piece, i think it was going to start out more cult like when the idea first came to me, because that's how it is in 1BR, but then the idea of vampires popped into my head and i just couldn't not include it. it'll still hold cult elements to it, but the emphasis might be a bit more on the vampire side of things.
as for yandere types, i'm not quite sure, but i'll give a run down as how i imagine each one being beneath the cut.
as for felix, i am struggling. i love him, okay, but i'm also fully aware that he is in a very precarious situation here. the last thing i want to do is put him in any harm, but i'm fully aware that making it out unscathed through it all isn't going to happen. what all happens to him though, we'll just have to see. i don't see any physical harm going his way per se, but he might not get to stick around mc forever...
hongjoong is probably the worst out of them and is definitely the most possessive one. very much into showing y/n off and making sure everyone knows just who you belong to. and though he is willing to share with the others, this act of showing off can sometimes extend towards them as well. without giving too much away on how their abilities work, he will happily twist your mind to make sure your focused completely on him and takes absolute pleasure in the attention you'll give him in these moments. (i may or may not have a scene with mc and hongjoong that has been playing nonstop in my head since this idea started and i've been craving to write it but it's pretty far away in the plot line.)
seonghwa comes across as a caring and sweet partner, but can be very manipulative. he will always take care of you and make sure your needs are met, but sometimes his care will come from situations he caused himself. he just wants to be someone you depend on, and if he has to do certain things to make you aware of this fact, he will. and all the while, he will make absolutely certain you're none the wiser for it.
yeosang: while the others might be more forward or manipulative in getting your attention and love, yeosang is much more subtle. he might not go out of his way to gain your attention, but he doesn't need to. he would much rather have you to come to in, thriving in the fact he has you crazy for him without any major tricks or manipulation. but every interaction between you is carefully planned and calculated, the smallest of gestures or actions all but making you crave to get in closer. and once he has you there, good luck getting back out.
san: can be very clingy. wants to spend time with you constantly, and will make certain things happen so that you're forced to go to him. oh, did your washer or dryer suddenly break? guess you'll have to come over to his place and hang out for the next few hours to do your laundry. oh, you have someone over that's not one of them? will find an excuse to squeeze his way in and make sure nothing happens between you and your company.
mingi: the one to quietly control your life, dictating your actions and choices with quiet subtlety. while he does have concerns for your own safety and health, he does influence your decisions on what you do and eat to make sure your blood's quality is at the highest with actions such as bringing you food or asking you to accompany him on certain endeavors. can also be very overprotective, having a hard time letting you do anything by yourself. if you try to do something on your own, he has no shame in ensuring it doesn't end well for you. absolutely relishes in the way you'll come crawling back, telling you once again how he told you it wasn't a good idea and boosting your dependence on each of them.
yunho: may seem normal on the outside, but quietly works his way around so that you come to depend on him. uses your interests as a way to get in close, and is always there as a shoulder to lean on in times of need. can be manipulative, however, in these tactics as he uses them almost as leverage over you. oh, he just spent the day doing one of your favorite activities with you, now why don't you do something that he wants to do next? may seem like he's spending time or helping you as an act of kindness, but it's mostly for his own gain. wanting you to feel as though your indebted to him.
jongho: may seem not as bad as the others at first. he's desperate for your love and attention, but has more qualms than the others in using certain tactics to get it. once you're in close, however, is when his true colors show. extremely clingy and needy, and may whine when you go to leave, begging you to stay with him just a little longer. may get pouty if you choose one of the others over him, like you decided to sit in one of the others' laps, and uses these tactics to make you feel guilty and give him the attention he so desperately wants.
wooyoung: can also be clingy and can get very jealous at times. he's fairly decent with sharing you with the others, but if anyone else were to come too close, he'll be right there, pressing a lingering kiss along your skin and oh, so innocently asking who your friend is. a bit like hongjoong, he'll take his jealousy out on you afterwards. never violently, but almost slightly degrading. asking if that person could ever love you the way he can, if they could ever please you the way he can, etc. but while hongjoong takes more pleasure out of acting on these thoughts and actions in front of said person, wooyoung enjoys privacy. having your full attention on him only.

but I can’t have you
Tumblr media
A super angsty “what if?” where each of the members had confessed their feelings but it’s not reciprocated. Based off the other confession prompts I’ve gotten.
You had been with them for as long as you could remember. Going to the ends of it all with them, and never leaving their side. Yet, you could never admit your true feelings. Maybe they felt otherwise for you, but you could never see a future with them. It had been one too many times before in your past life, and you didn’t want to take that chance again. When their hearts are poured out to you, sparingly over the days, you tense up.
“I should have told you. You weren’t supposed to fall in love with me.”
Or B) how dare you hurt them? Good luck staying long with the party!
Percy 👓
He liked you. Like, he didn’t like most people, let alone tolerate, but he liked you. A lot! You listened to him ramble, let him be himself without the judgement and praised his skills and inventions. Surely you must have felt the same as he did. Wrong. He swears the demon whispers in his ear and ice has consumed his heart, the only element barely keeping the shattered pieces together.
Keyleth
There was a time she thought it impossible for her to fall for someone, let alone you. But you stayed, and listened. Supported her and checked on her like you would anyone else. So why did her heart leap whenever you were close? The pride in your eyes at her coronation made her think otherwise, until you gave her your true answer. Now the bitter tears sting her cheeks instead of placating this ache in her heart.
Pike
She hopes her mind isn’t playing tricks with her. That it’s not a silly daydream her mind has wandered to. Sure she likes how you fight, you’re getting along with Grog (and maybe Scanlan), and the shared connection to her cleric goddess. It would make sense that this just happened, right? So similar that everything would just fit? No. Now her prayers and meditations for the “why”, why couldn’t you feel the same are met with whispered comforts from Sarenrae.
Vex’ahlia 🏹 🐻
Guarded and protective most of her life, the archer only trusted as many as she could count on her fingers. And even that included you. The one she trusted as much as she did with Percy. She wanted to be around you, to hear any mundane thing you had to say. Besides Vax, you were another that she trusted to enclose her deepest fears: any hour of the day, and sometimes all throughout the hours of the night. So why? Tell her why it hurts so much all the time. Just hold her, so she can feel you, and tell her why your feelings aren’t the same as hers.
Scanlan
Sure he was a flirt, a philanderer, but he was also a “master of his craft” as you often reminded him. Entertaining his jokes, going back and forth on the bantering schemes and antics, it just came naturally. Sure, he flirted and had escapades with others, but with you…he wanted it differently. That doesn’t mean it sting any less when you turned him away. He just wishes he could have done more to show you that he genuinely cared.
Grog
It’s a simple thing that only he can describe. You’re not just his best friend like Pike and Scanlan. He likes you. More than any of the gold or ale or treasures that you all could find. It was a strange feeling when you’re around, chest tight and a fluttering feeling whenever you brush by. You make him feel….different. Different than when he’s around his friends. Your hugs and gazes are two things he starts to adore the most. Even though you don’t feel the same, the barbarian would give anything to just go back to how things were before.
Vax’ildan
He was wracked with nerves, pacing back and forth and wringing his hands. How could he tell you? What could he say? That your face is one of the few he sees before, during and after his sleep? That when you hold his hand when you’re afraid he wants to grasp it tightly forever? That your smile is one he wants to be the cause of every day, and how it would feel to kiss those curved lips. When all is said and done, he can’t fathom the pain that builds when you rebuff. Eyes not seeing past the glistening that wells with emotion.

Project Sekai Aoyagi Toya | Birthday Date
Pairing: Aoyagi Toya x Reader
Tags: reader insert, second pov, established relationship, fluff
Notes: Happy (belated) Birthday my dear boy Toya! His character development for the past year have been amazing and I'm so proud of seeing him smile in his birthday card (which came home to me)! It makes me wanna flood my room with tears! BTW there are some real life elements like his birthday in 2022 is on a weekday and it has a minor effect on the fic overall :) Enjoy!
Tumblr media
You and Toya have decided to have a date the day after his actual birthday since you both know his friends and group mates are going to celebrate on the actual day. It’s not like you’re not gonna be there on the day to participate with everyone, but Toya wants to spend his special day with you alone and so do you.
It is on a weekday, meaning you both still have school. Right after the last bell, Toya meets up with you at the front gates before walking to the first spot, the karaoke center!
Before singing right away, Toya teaches you some ways to warm up your throat, giving you tips and tricks to become a better singer. You find it cute how concentrated he looks when warming up even though it’s just a little karaoke session.
His voice always amazes you so much, the passion he puts in his voice for every song he sings. They sound so soothing but powerful at the same time. It feels kind of embarrassing when it’s your turn to sing, even with Toya encouraging you that you’re doing fine.
The most fun was the duets you two did. Toya is always smiling at you when you’re singing, being able to see you having fun and seeing you fumble when you make a small mistake in the lyrics. He’s the happiest that you share interest with something he’s passionate about.
The last song you sing before your time limit hits is unsurprisingly Happy Birthday for the birthday boy. He listens attentively the whole time and notices how much effort goes into a simple song that he listens to every year.
After a lively time at the karaoke center, you both leave the place with empty stomachs and head towards the next destination, a restaurant. It is a simpler and sweet moment shared between you two, just talking about whatever pops up in each other’s minds over food. Toya likes to let you try his food, feeding you with his utensil then you share your portion with him.
A fulfilling meal left you both with full stomachs, but Toya will always have extra space for your homemade chocolate chip cookies you brought along. The crunchy outside with the chewy inside and the chocolate pieces. The taste isn’t sweet at all, it has the bitter note of chocolate and the saltiness of sea salt on top. He loves them a whole lot.
The night is still young and there was enough time for the last destination, the arcade! A lot of flashy lights and upbeat sounds come from the machines that attract your eyes, tempting you to drag your boyfriend in.
Some of the games you two play are taiko drums, air hockey, maimai, and crane games! Toya is slightly better than you in rhythm games as he can catch the rhythm of familiar songs better than you.
Games that require skill however, he’s still better than you somehow…It’s just Toya being able to excel at anything makes you furious. In return, he grabs the plushies you want in crane games so it’s alright.
A day full of fun, games, food, and celebrations finally come to an end when you both leave the arcade and head home. On the way, Toya glances up at the night sky and secretly thanks in his head for a wonderful day spent beside you.
He walks you to your front door where he receives the last gift of the day, a heartfelt kiss on the lips from you. It surprised him but he slowly melts into his, bringing a hand up to carefully caress your cheek.
Parting the kiss, you send him a smile and final wishes before he leaves.
“Thank you for celebrating my birthday together. I’m really happy that you could spend today with me even though it’s not exactly my birthday anymore. I’m grateful for your gifts and will always treasure them. See you tomorrow.”

Bonus tonight since we haven’t had a proper Kiku post in a while and a pending draft made me think of this. If you didn’t know, Kiku’s made it into a One Piece game. Her, Kin, & Oden are a DLC pack for Pirate Warriors 4. Really feel her and Kin should have just been base game since it includes early Wano...but whatever. I used Tashigi mostly in PW3 and fittingly, Kiku really plays as a better Tashigi. With ice elemental attacks. And she’s accurately sized so you get the benefit of being comically huge which I enjoy.
It’s fun to play as her, and I’ve long been a fan of these Koei Warriors series games in moderation. Giving them a One Piece spin is a natural touch. Which gets us to the fun part...her lines. These games always have a lot of fun little special lines characters linked in the source material will say to each other. Gives a lot of fun teasers for what if scenarios. DLC character means you don’t get others referencing her directly but it’s cute what she says about some...
My favorite is the “beautiful” aspect. Because that’s part of her reputation, we get some for Cavendish and Hancock. First, y’all are gonna love the sapphic energy radiating off her lines towards Boa. Pretty bland though. Just “you’re as strong as you are beautiful, amazing!” type things. It is hilarious to see petrified Kiku with big heart eyes popping out. Cavendish? “Your pursuit of beauty has led to a failure to pursue strength.”
You obviously get fun ones for the big flashy Okama. Iva’s cute, “The ability to change ones sex, what a marvelous sorcery!” Bon’s is the better one to me though. A little more reserved delivery, uses her confused face icon, “The way that you dress...where does your heart lie?”
There is also one neat trick they pulled for other characters addressing her. Sure, they didn’t re-record a bunch of new lines for base roster faces, but they had a smart little backdoor. The Whitebeard Captains always have a special one or two for Luffy. The ones that don’t name Ace or him they’ll say to Kiku as well! I give an audible daww every time.
You get that and more out of the game + DLC package. I like her big special following up with the cute Bakura “Oh, why did I just do that?” and donning the mask as a transformation ability is so satisfying. She also gets in on a cool little Iai style mechanic a few swordsmen share.

Using Pinterest to get the most out of your fashion inspo!
Hi guys! Today I will be explaining how I use Pinterest to better understand my personal style. I used advice given by r/femalefashionadvice to originally develop my board.
Tumblr media
The first step is to definitely create a board solely dedicated to fashion inspo, or to create a whole new account entirely. This helps keeps things organized and makes your inspo easy to reference when you need it. Creating a new account can be helpful later on so that the posts pinterest recommends you are geared more towards fashion.
The second step is to break your board down into specific sections. Above is an example of how I have broken my board into sections. They don’t have to be like mine. It should be tailored into how you break outfits down. For example outfits can have a top and bottom piece, so you might make top and bottom sections. But jackets for you might not be in the same section as tank tops for example, so you can make different sections for each. I really hope this is making sense :’)
Tumblr media
The next step is to start saving stuff to your new board. You can use social media to analyze what styles or aesthetics you like seeing people wear, or ask friends about their style or brand of clothes. You can then use those key words to help you search for clothes to go into your board. When I first started my board a year ago, I first searched for cottagecore and streetwear styles. But now my board looks like this!
Be aware that at first your board will probably not look curated at all. It may be messy, and that’s ok! The more you add to your board, the more it will make sense.
After you have a sizable amount of pins, you can start to analyze your clothes. Looking at the example of my board above, we can pull a few observations. I seem to save tops that use a soft or stretchy appearing material. Some of these tops also have a v or straight neckline. Some also have a 3D or applique element, like lace, beading, or buttons. See all that we observed already? We can use these observations the next time we go shopping.
Tumblr media
Now, we go shopping. Online works, but I prefer in person so I can try on and consider the clothes I’m purchasing more deeply rather than buying impulsively online. The trick is to buy one or two new pieces, not a whole new wardrobe. This is because a style or trend might be appealing at first, but you may end up not liking it. So buying a limited amount of pieces helps save closet space and is less wasteful. It can also help you integrate your new pieces into your wardrobe and see how it fits in with your other clothes.
I find it helpful to pull up pinterest after before I put an item in my cart and after I try it on. After I pull an item that I like, I compare it to the section it fits in my board and see what it shares in common with the clothing I often save. If it’s something that doesn’t match, most of the time I will put it back. If I find a piece that shares common details with clothing I often save, I will try on.
After I have found a few pieces I like, I consider three things: if it truly fits with the stuff I have saved on my board, the functionality of the piece, and how it could fit into my wardrobe. If it fits my board, functionality and how it could fit in my wardrobe helps me further consider a piece. Often we save pins that might be influenced by the dream of being a bad bitch, or the people we follow online. But consider, would you actually wear this piece outside your home. For example although I save a fair share of high heels and boots, it wouldn’t make sense for me to have many pairs because I walk a lot at school and can’t wear them to my job. So owning many pairs of heels wouldn’t make much sense. For fitting in the wardrobe, see if you can make 3-5 outfits in your mind if you had a new piece.
That’s all my advice for today! I hope this helps my fellow critically online fashionistas :)))
happy pinning

How Indian Chefs are Breathing New Life into Traditional Vegetable Dishes
Tumblr media
Ah, the timeless beauty of Indian cuisine. A myriad of flavors, each dish with its unique aroma, and the fascinating way each spice complements the other. Indian vegetable dishes have been staple fare for thousands of years, a testament to their unmatched deliciousness.
Yet, just when you think that these dishes have reached their zenith, contemporary Indian chefs are proving that there’s still room for innovation. If you’re someone who constantly searches “authentic Indian cuisine near me” on Google, buckle up. This culinary ride is bound to make your taste buds tingle with excitement!
The Renaissance of Indian Vegetable Dishes
Have you ever been captivated by a timeless piece of art and then noticed a modern twist that takes your breath away? That’s the current scene in the world of Indian vegetable dishes.
For centuries, these dishes have been a comforting presence in Indian households, each carrying stories of grandmothers, festive gatherings, and shared laughter. However, it’s the 21st century, and while the tales remain, the narrative is getting a fresh, vibrant chapter.
Contemporary Indian chefs, with a profound respect for tradition, are now wearing the hats of culinary explorers. While they revere the old, they’re fearlessly experimenting with the new. With subtle changes in spices, inventive methods of preparation, and even playful plate pairings; traditional vegetable dishes are being reborn, and they’re tantalizing.
Fusion: A Magical Symphony of Flavors
When two worlds collide, there’s an explosion, and in the culinary realm, it’s an explosion of flavors! Now, imagine your favorite Indian vegetable curry. Got the image? Now, imagine a subtle hint of, let’s say, Mexican or Japanese flavors. Sounds weird? But the magic lies in the unexpected.
Today’s Indian chefs are embarking on global gastronomic journeys, taking cues from diverse cuisines, and marrying them with India’s robust vegetable dishes. The result is a delightful surprise.
Picture a dosa (a traditional Indian pancake) but with a filling inspired by a Mexican burrito or a classic vegetable biryani infused with a hint of Japanese umami flavor. Fusion is not just blending; it’s about creating an entirely new experience while giving a nod to the roots.
Modern Techniques, Timeless Taste
The heart of Indian vegetable dishes lies in their age-old recipes, passed down through generations. But what if we told you that these very dishes could be transformed with a touch of modernity? Enter the world of modern cooking techniques.
Imagine a dish cooked slowly and gently, extracting every bit of flavor, thanks to sous-vide. Or a curry transformed into a delicate foam, making it light as air while bursting with taste. Indian chefs today are embracing these modern methods, ensuring precision and adding an element of drama.
Yet, in this whole culinary theater, what’s heartwarming is the commitment to preserving the soul of the dish. It looks different and feels different, but deep down, it’s the familiar taste that connects straight to the heart with The Curry Restaurant.
Presentation: An Art in Itself
“You eat with your eyes first.” Ever heard that phrase? Well, in the age of Instagram and food blogging, this couldn’t be more true.
The visual appeal of a dish has taken center stage, making the dining experience not just about taste, but also about the visual journey. Gone are the days when a simple bowl of curry would do the trick. Today, it’s about the drama, the colors, and the layout.
Modern chefs are akin to artists with a palette of ingredients at their disposal. A traditional vegetable curry is no longer just ladled into a bowl. It’s carefully plated, garnished with edible flowers, drizzled with flavored oils, and sometimes even accompanied by a delicate side that complements its essence.
This shift in presentation isn’t merely superficial; it’s about enhancing the entire sensory experience, making each meal a memorable visual feast.
Sustainability: A Conscious Return to Roots
In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced world, there’s a whisper that’s growing louder: the call for sustainability. This isn’t just a trend; it’s a pressing need. And guess what? Indian vegetable dishes, known for their rich flavors and traditions, are also at the forefront of this sustainable movement.

Pretty Tricks in Jigsaw Puzzles
Ah, the allure of a jigsaw puzzle—a captivating journey that begins with a scattered array of pieces and ends with the triumphant completion of a beautiful picture. For me, a devoted lover of jigsaw puzzles, this pastime is more than just a leisurely pursuit; it's a passion that engages the mind, soothes the soul, and unveils the satisfaction of solving intricate mysteries one piece at a time.
As any puzzle enthusiast would attest, mastering the art of jigsaw puzzles requires more than just a keen eye and nimble fingers. It demands strategy, patience, and a dash of creativity. Allow me to share some tricks of the trade that have elevated my puzzle-solving prowess over the years.
1. Sorting is Key: Before embarking on the puzzle-solving journey, take the time to sort the pieces. Group them by color, edge pieces, and distinct patterns. This initial organization lays the foundation for a more systematic approach to assembling the puzzle.
2. Start with the Edges: Begin your quest by assembling the puzzle's border. Edge pieces are the puzzle's architectural framework, providing a clear boundary for the image. Once the edges are in place, the puzzle's structure takes shape, making it easier to fill in the details.
3. Focus on Patterns: Identify recurring patterns or distinctive elements within the image, such as a particular color or texture. Tackling these areas first can provide a sense of accomplishment and act as a roadmap for connecting the remaining pieces.
4. Work in Sections: Breaking down the puzzle into manageable sections can make the task less daunting. Focus on completing one section at a time, gradually piecing together the larger picture. This methodical approach prevents overwhelm and adds a sense of achievement at each step.
5. Rotate and Experiment: Don't be afraid to experiment with piece placement. Rotate pieces, try different combinations, and be open to unconventional matches. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can unlock the perfect fit that was elusive at first glance.
6. Patience is a Virtue: Jigsaw puzzles are a test of patience, requiring a steady hand and a calm mind. Resist the temptation to force pieces together. Take breaks, step back, and return with a refreshed outlook when faced with a particularly challenging section.
7. Embrace the Challenge: Remember, the joy of solving a jigsaw puzzle lies in the challenge itself. Embrace the process, relish the satisfaction of each connection, and celebrate the unfolding beauty of the image as it gradually emerges.
In the world of free jigsaw puzzles, every piece holds a story, and every connection is a triumph. So, fellow puzzle enthusiasts, let's embark on this delightful journey of discovery, armed with patience, strategy, and an unwavering passion for unraveling the mysteries hidden within those scattered pieces. Happy puzzling!

Secret — Five Hargreeves
Requests: “For Five Hargreeves — can I get 97, 91 28 and 35 for a heavy smut? And 40 from fluff? If it isn’t too much trouble!”
“If it’s not too much trouble could I do 40,53 & 91 from the smut prompts for Five ty honey 💕”
Smut prompts:
28. “Such a needy little thing, aren’t you?”
35. “Try to keep quiet. We don’t want to get caught.”
40. “I guess I’ll just get off all by myself.”
53. “Well, since you want to cum so badly, why don’t we see how many times I can make you cum right now.
91. “guess i'll just have to cum in you then’
97. “You know, you always look so much better when I mark you up.”
Fluff prompts:
40. “Come cuddle.”
A/N: We not tolerate any pedophilia here !!
I write about Five with their 20s. I write the same about the characters of Harry Potter.
I hope you guys like💖I decided to compile these two requests, since they were the same central plot. I added all the elements that were asked for individually, and made sure that all ideas were respected and written down. Good reading.
Guys, I really understand who doesn’t feel comfortable reading or writing Five’s smut. But I always say that I only write with him (any genre: romance, fluff or angst) with the notion that Five is 20 years old here. All of my fanfics mention swearing or sex, even if it is a memory or something shallow, but as I am writing with Five as an adult, it is consistent that the fic has aspects of an adult life.//
English is not my first language, so I so sorry if have a mistake.
Requests are open. Love you ❤️
Couple: Five Hargreeves / Fem! Reader.
Warnings: explicit heavy smut, swearing, fluff too.
— — — — —
It was one of those warm nights, which carry a searing and heaving sensation in the back, which had a malicious tone in the air, which stirs your body to choose bad decisions, making your hands itch and your heart racing for something...intense. It was one of those hours that passed midnight, that breath was heavy with the expectation of something extraordinary, that skin prickled just with the images in mind.
And you were in that state. Heart pounding heavily, yearning for something, caustic breathing, the environment with an energy of lust. Well, at least you was like that.
Five did not share your line of reasoning, or, if he were not oblivious to the malicious moonlight that rose in the sky, he was pretending very well. Sipping a margarita at the bar in the Hargreeves mansion, with calculations in front of him taking all his attention. Normally, you loved that he focused on his own things. But now... you were seething with something that only Five could placate.
It was a few months ago that you went from just being friends with his siblings to someone he fucked hard at night. The sexual energy between the two of you was very strong, and it was very easy to make bad decisions when the bad decision in question was so fucking hot.
Five Hargreeves did things to you. You wouldn't know how to explain it with clear phrases, but his gaze made you shiver, his body made a very specific part in the middle of your legs vibrate, and his voice and that self-centered smile... God!
It was no accident that you surrendered. You would have surrendered to that battle a million times.
“Five.” You sighed softly, taking a sip from your own drink. “Can't you do this tomorrow?”
“No. I am close to solving this.”
You controlled yourself not to roll your eyes. You were never the most needy type, especially with people as reserved as Five, but, damn it, you were on fire. It was logical that you could go out and choose someone to placate that, but that would trigger many things between Five and you. He hated that you were with someone else, even though he himself didn't assuming out to you.
It are a delicate situation, you were friends with all the Hargreeves siblings, and it would be a racket if they knew that their brother was fucking one of theys best friends.
The warm evening breeze came in through the window and collided with the chill of the drink running down your throat, awakening even more lustful anxieties.
“Five..." You purred, got up from the armchair on the counter, still behind Five and slid your hands over his shoulders "Maybe...you might want to finish this later.” You whispered at the foot of his ear.
Even without seeing him, you could feel that he was letting go of one of his arrogant and malicious smiles. Five rotated the seat to be face to face with you, his legs spread wider to accommodate you between them.
“And what are you going to do to distract me?” That same defiant, boastful voice.
But the look he gave you made a shock of desire reverberate through your body. Five wanted to play? Okay, you were going to play a game whit him.
“Why did you…” you leaned forward gently, resting one hand on his hot thigh, leaving your cleavage exposed “don't try guess?”
You realized that he had swallowed hard, even though his posture had remained unwavering. Five looked down at you cleavage, waist, and slightly elevated butt. You approached him a few more inches, your mouth a breath away, the heat of the bodies being shared without even touching.
Five could drive you crazy and screaming, but you knew it could also drive him insanity.
When you leaned over a little more and your mouths were so close to meet, you changed the direction and reached out with your free hand to pick up Five's margarita behind him. You straightened up and away, with a mischievous smile on your lips that revealed that everything had gone as planned.
Five semi closed his eyes at you, a fiery glow going through his eyes.
“Do you want to play with me?”His voice was low, dangerous “You know what happens to you when you challenge me.”
It was a warning, clear and resonant. You were a good girl for Five because you knew the strength that he could fuck you. Fuck, he could break you if he want. But now you were sexually frustrated, aroused, with a racing heart and wheezing from the expectation of something.
A night of bad decisions.
“You don't want to get out of your equations.” You turned your voice into something innocent, soft, provocative, and the strong breath that Five drew was a small victory for you "I guess I'll just get off all by myself."
Your smile was malicious, causticante, but as soon as Five got up from that chair, the perfect posture, much taller than you, and was slowly towards you, like a predator with its prey, you knew you were screwed.
“Do you want to come this much?” His fingers passed gently over your warm neck, and you let out a breath with that stupid touch.
Five moved closer, your chest glued to his, the hot, citrusy breath of alcohol hitting your nose. Something wetted you panties, making you bite the inside of your cheeks to keep from sighing any louder.
“Would you use your little toy thinking about the times that I fucked you so hard that you couldn't walk the next day?”
That was too much for your already sensitive system. Those words went directly to the thread that connected your heart and its pulsating nucleus, causing a burning note to reverberate.
“Five...”the sigh came out, while the memories of Five using your vibrator to push you to the limit, while him fucking you brutally, prowled like a wild beast in your mind.
Five slid the fingers from your neck to your cleavage, brushing the tips of her fingers across the flesh of your breasts. Five stuffed his forefinger into your cleavage and pulled you to him.
You moaned softly, in a purr.
“Such a needy little thing, aren't you?" The whispered floated in your ear, while you put down the margarita at the bar and held your hands in his arms.
You bit your bottom lip, your panties soaked, your heart beating fast in your chest, the atmosphere more wild and fiery.
“You want this?” Five slowly lowered a strap from your blouse, each second speeding up your heart even more.
“Yes...” You sighed “I really want to, please.”
Then Five's touch got rougher and he held your chin firmly, lifting you face to look him in the eye.
“Beg.” It was an order, but your body was sending millions of feelings to you that you were lost for a second "beg!”
“P-please.” You looked at him pleadingly “Fuck me so badly, please.”
His grip got stronger.
“Once again.” Now the other hand slid roughly over your body, squeezing your waist, thigh, ass, anything that Five could mark as his property.
“Please, I'm begging you to eat me.” You really were, your body needed more, and there was no denying it.
So in the blink of an eye, the blue flash swallowed you both up and took you to his room. You were dizzy for a second, you were not used to his tricks. But Five used it as a bonus and stuck his lips to yours, stunning you with the strong taste of alcohol, desire and lust.
You moaned softly, your hands working to free him from his clothes, your lips corresponding to the battle. You managed to strip off his shirt layers and fade his pants, but Five didn't have the same patience as you. He didn't wait to undress you, he tore the thin fabric and opened your bra hungry, in a hurry, as if you were his last meal.
In a second his hot mouth was on your breast, sucking and nibbling at the needy skin aggressively, his fierce hands pulling you out of the other pieces of clothing. Five was not delicate, loving and caring, he conquered, took, owned, his goal was to devour you until his savagery was sated.
“Fi-Five!” You moaned loudly, your naked body now shaking with desire, your heart exploding in your chest.
You would have said something more if Five hadn't pushed you to the bed and made you fall into it. He pulled your legs apart, exposing you completely to him. His eyes burned with a dangerous and brutal fire, and Five slapped down the inside of your thigh. You screamed, arching your back, your hands closing on the sheet.
“Well, since you want to cum so badly…” Five climbed on top of you, his mouth proving the point where he had hit you “why don’t we see how many times I can make you cum right now.”
Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, his mouth was right in the middle of your pulsating core. Eating, sucking, tasting everything you willingly offered to him so much. You moaned, or screamed, your hands tightly squeezing the sheet, digging your nails into the fabric.
Five ate you at an undisturbed pace, as if you were the last meal in the desert, clasping his hands on your waist to keep you immobile, sinking his mouth deeper into you. His tongue opened its yours walls, circled her clitoris and sucked there, leaving a hot trail of spittle. You moaned loudly, your waist trying to fight the firm grip of his hands to roll in him mouth. You felt a thread about to burst inside you and your heart started to race in your chest.
“F-Five!” You screamed when he sucked your clitoris, and he could feel you pulsing in his mouth, signaling that you were close.
“Come for me, little slut.”
The vibration of his voice in your sensitive flesh was the trigger you needed, you came intensely, your legs wobbly, your breathing heavy, but Five didn't wait for you to finish coming before climbing on top of you, lowering his pants and underwear enough and brutally get inside you in a fraction of a second.
You groaned loudly, your hands clasping his bare shoulders, your walls hypersensitive to the end of the orgasm that was still breaking free. It was too much for you, your eyes stung with tears, your heart was racing a marathon in your chest, and your whole body was shaking.
Five doesn't give you a second to get used to it, or to get down from the sensation of your orgasms, he set a rough, hard, badly rhythm, entering inside you in penetrations that pushed your body upwards. You spread your legs wider and wrapped them around Five's waist, your chest glued to his chest, skin-to-skin contact being the extra to drive you crazy.
It was too much for you to take, too much for your hypersensitive body. Five silenced your broken moans with toxic kisses.
“Try to keep quiet. We don’t want to get caught.” His voice was hoarse, breathy, broken, Five drives his dick so deep inside you as possible with every word.
“I...I can't...”You whimpered in his mouth, clasping your hands in Five's hot flesh, sobbing at the strength he put in you, you needed more.
“So let's take care of it.”
Five released an aggressive and rough hickey on your neck, putting an arm around your waist, sticking every inch of their bodies together, and his free hand covered your mouth, drowning out yours screams. You thought it was going to placate his hard rhythm, but Five started pulling your waist down, against his dick, and sinking deeper inside you.
“You wanted me to fuck you, didn't you?” Five snarled, looking into yours watery eyes "Now take it, fuck!."
His dirty words only led you further towards the second abyss. Five fucked you so hard that you couldn't answer, let alone whit the heavy hand on your mouth. Yours hands sank into the skin on his back, yours legs pulling him hips towards you, desperate to placate what was about to burst.
Five could feel yours tight walls throbbing on his dick, signaling that you were going to come any second. He groaned loudly, clenching his teeth on the skin of your neck so as not to make a noise, thrusting his dick as deep as possible into you. He replaced the hand in your mouth with his own lips, swallowing yours moans and trying to keep the sounds of you both low.
“I ... I'm going to...” You cried with pleasure, pain, desire, his rhythm hurt but it gave you so much hunger and pleasure that you could feel the liquid of your arousal soaking his dick.
Five looked at you in a way full of lust and with a very desire to break you. Oh he wanted to destroy you.
He came out of you, making you let out a loud moan of frustration and tears streaming from yours eyes. You whimpered loudly, and Five switched positions and pulled you hard into his lap, giving you no time to straighten up before he pushed his dick into you and aggressively stuck both hands to your waist.
You bit your lip hard to keep from screaming, trembling hands resting on his chest as Five pulled you up and down brutally, thrusting his dick in as deep as possible in you. He did not contain an aggressive groan at the sight of yours breasts jumping on his face, body sweaty and marked by fingers and hickeys, the inside of yours thighs already red by the force that Five shocked the body in you.
“Pl ... please!”
You begged, your face smeared with mascara and tears, your lips red from raw kisses, your hair sweaty. You looked like a goddess and Five wanted even more to destroy you.
“Do you want to come?” His voice was breathless, hoarse, fierce.
You nodded frantically, looking at Five with beg, begging him to let you come. It seemed to have an overwhelming effect on him. Five slapped your ass down, raising his hand to your back and pulling you forward, making your chest lie on his while the rhythm reached new places.
You bit his shoulder to keep from screaming, tears streaming down your face.
“If you come in this position, I will not control myself.” He snarled at you.
“I do not mind!” You begged, moving your waist to match his rhythm.
“Guess i'll just have to cum in you then” Then Five kissed you, hard, bad, dropped a hand to your clitoris and applied the trigger you needed to collapse.
You sank your mouth into the skin of his neck to muffle your scream, and soon a hot, thick liquid was filling you to the brim, taking up every inch inside you. You whimpered loudly against Five, hims hips doing the final thrusts to make sure the cum was filling you, his warm hands loosening the aggressive grip.
You both breathed loudly, your legs were shaking, your hair was stuck to your face and it took you two minutes to lift your face and look at Five. He gave you an arrogant smile of ‘I said I was going to break you and I broke’ and you laughed softly.
“I don't think I can get up.” You laughed, and Five removed a lock of hair from your face. “Do you think they heard us?”
“They certainly heard you.” He scoffed.
“Coming from your room.” You snapped and Five laughed, hims chest still heaving and heaving, covered in a mist of sweat.
“Fuck them.” Five said, gently pulling your hips up, pulling the dick out of you, making you sigh a broken moan. “You are so sensitive!” He said between his teeth, as if he had never been satisfied with you.
You laughed, and shook your head, exposing your neck full of purple tick marks.
“You know…” Five took his index finger to the marks, delicately skirting them “you always look so much better when I mark you up.”
You pushed his shoulder slightly, rolling your eyes.
“Can we take a shower together?” Five nodded at you question. “ and…”
“And?”
“You know ...” yours cheeks became more flushed "Come cuddle."
Five laughed, his eyes tame now, an open smile and satisfied energy.
“We can.” he smiled and you gave him a passionate kiss on the lips.

A case for fan fiction
I'm a writer working on an original novel that I intend to try to get published. Here's why I think writing fan fiction is an excellent exercise for writers at any stage of their career.
It's GREAT practice. If you do more of something, you get better at it. And if you have an idea for a fic that you keep thinking about, why would you actively stop yourself from writing something you actually WANT to write? They say to write what's at the front of your brain, and if that's a fic idea, just write it! Visual artists sketch existing characters all the time for inspiration or for practice, and one could argue that writing fanfiction is essentially the same thing but in literary form.
Specifically, it's great practice at writing character voice. Trying to match the speaking style, mannerisms, and personality of an existing character is a unique challenge, and it forces you as a writer to become more aware of and intentional about these things! It's definitely strengthened the way I think about and characterize my original characters, and helped me make them each unique and consistent.
It's like decorating a house versus building it from the ground up. Since the characters, scenarios, and world-building are often provided to you ready-made, it's an opportunity to practice simple things like prose, dialogue, and characterization without having to worry as much about creating the entire scaffolding to support it.
It's an opportunity to try things you may not put in a piece of writing you intend to publish. Smut scenes are the obvious funny answer here, but another example I can think of that I've encountered in writing my own fic is that it's made me much better at writing and describing action scenes! And just generally, because I know from the get-go that I'm not writing my fic to publish, I allow myself to try things and experiment in ways that I wouldn't necessarily do in my original work.
It can help you reconnect with your love for writing. There's something liberating about writing something purely for its own sake. Knowing going in that there's zero or limited potential to publish, the only remaining reason for you to be writing fanfic is because you just genuinely enjoy the act of writing, creating, and sharing it. Speaking personally, it's made me get back into the mindset of thinking of writing as something I do for fun, which means that I've now created the habit of defaulting to writing as my go-to activity during my pockets of free time throughout the day.
The feedback you get from sharing it is great motivation to keep writing. The instant gratification of comments and readers' excitement for the next chapter are an excellent way to keep the momentum going! And the community I've discovered with other fic writers has become almost like a writers' workshop group of sorts. A lot of talented writers write fic, and it's an amazing community of people who write for fun that can help you grow and improve and challenge yourself as a writer.
Sometimes you CAN publish it! We all know about 50 Shades of Grey, but that aside, often times elements or ideas or even the entire premise of a fanfic story can be adapted fairly easily into original content, especially if you're writing an AU or something more distantly removed from the canon. Of course, this isn't always possible, but that still doesn't mean its wasted effort - the things you learn from writing fic or writing tricks and tools you develop will almost inevitably be carried over into your original writing as well.
Basically, if you have aspirations to publish and are hesitant about writing fic for any reason, my advice is to stop overthinking it and just hecking do it! Writing is writing, and creating art from existing stories is something as old as art itself. There's zero shame in it, and the experience you'll get is well worth it.
Legit some of the most beautiful writing I've ever read has been in fanfic, and I've encountered some staggeringly talented writers in so many fandoms. I'm hopeful that the stigma surrounding it is lessening slowly but surely, because it really is as valid a form of creating as anything else is.

I really wanna talk about homestuck in relation to this post but like, idk if I wanna add to it because it might be a total derailment of the topic but homestuck is such a weird apocalypse narrative.
like... the way it handles it is so odd because earth itself is not very well characterized before the characters leave it. the characters themselves are massively well characterized, and that takes up the bulk of the narrative, but like... we never even hear them talk about school? or much of anything more than their shared interests and what's immediately happening to them. and in a way, that is kind of authentic. because when kids get together to hang out, the last thing they ever wanna talk about is dry, boring stuff about their mundane lives. they'll mostly just yell memes at each other, talk about anime, play video games... it's possible to simultaneously know nothing about your friends, but feel closer to them than ever, because you're mostly around for the parts of their life that they want to experience when they're having the most fun. you see them as they are when they have the most agency to choose that. and that might be totally divorced from the reality of how their day-to-day life unfolds.
in this way, homestuck presents these characters as people who have shed that mundane portion of their lives. they are now left with only the part that they typically share with their friends. and in reality, if a SBURB type apocalypse were to literally happen to you, it'd be traumatic as hell. but this is the place where homestuck chooses to ask you to suspend your disbelief. let's just believe that John didn't have any other friends or family to think about when the world ended. let's pretend they left zero people of any interest whatsoever behind. all they are shaking off is the society that they were obligated to participate in so mundanely. they no longer have to make any compromises with anyone... they get to fully center themselves.
okay, so that's obviously not entirely true... playing SBURB is a cooperative experience, and being friends with someone doesn't always mean that your relationship is easy. but homestuck allows the narrative to become self centered. it's about one individual and the tiny sphere of influence they have, among solely the people they've developed meaningful bonds with. it allows them to become a case study.
so when the world ends, the world is not necessarily what matters. what matters is the identities of a few specific individuals who we spend a lot of time cultivating our own connections with as a reader.
and that all becomes incredibly interesting when you consider classes and aspects.
basically, in terms of the post linked above, classes and aspects are the harry potter houses, the factions, the "what bender are you" or MBTI type... they're not the only way you could categorize the characters, but they're the most universally applicable to all of the characters that are important in the narrative. and what's interesting is just like... what classes are for, and how complicated it actually is to know what aspects are, or what they mean.
starting with classes, these are basically a series of archetypes that are specialized so that everyone has a role to play that makes them uniquely valuable to a collective. if we're considering this in terms of DnD, you can think of what classes might make for a balanced party, and how having a balanced party makes it satisfying to play the game. no one player could handle everything on their own, and at the same time, everyone feels needed. nobody is useless.
this already seems fundamentally different from some of the means of categorization that I listed above. a lot of these systems are meant to divvy up the characters into societally recognized in-groups and out-groups... people who can be identified as allies or enemies. even if the groups are ascribed certain archetypal skills, the goal is rarely so explicitly for the archetypes to work together, or cover each other's weaknesses. Avatar is probably what comes the closest to this idea, with its underlying endeavor to find harmony between the elements, but homestuck uses classes both as a way to communicate unique specialization, and as a way to unify the characters by their need for support.
and that's a little weird isn't it? these characters just shed all of their obligations to a broader society, and we're taking that as a freeing event... right? but there is a difference between society and community, and while homestuck might use the destruction of society as a catalyst for adventure, it uses the formation of community as the driving force behind the story's progression. the characters are all motivated to work together and help each other... and that doesn't always mean that it works. even within a community, one person's drive to center themselves and their own personal growth can trample others who were trying to do the same thing. perhaps not everyone in the community consents to being cooperative. perhaps the difference in archetype could drive someone to become competitive instead. and these are all value-neutral observations... no archetype is specifically acknowledged as being evil, even when they have friction with one another.
basically... this is character writing. and I find it funny that these broad categories that kids like to identify themselves with are seen as ways of flattening characterization into broad strokes like "the brave one" or "the sneaky one" or what have you, because in the case of classes, the characterization becomes deeper. and I think that's because the categories are used well... the characters all have specific relationships with the stereotypes they're ascribed by others, and the archetypes they're told they must fulfill. the classes don't define them, but they do give them something to contend with. can they fulfill their role? can they live up to their purpose? is there a place in the story for someone with an archetype like theirs? do they want to be this?
aspects get even trickier, and for this I might just link to a video I really love that covers a lot of the thoughts I've been having. it's kind of front loaded with a lot of technical talk about computer science and philosophy, and tbh I love that homestuck does actually link up those concepts with so much of it's presentation, but the main bit that intrigues me is the way the video talks about aspects as irreducible components of thought. like the periodic table of elements, but for ideas.
this drastically elevates the importance of each character's assigned category, and makes it function so much better as a tool for characterization. because, like, the aspects are actually really abstract. when someone says their aspect is "wind" or "light" you could take that 100% literally if you wanted to... but by the time you've read enough of homestuck to connect those to John and Rose, you probably understand that it's not that simple. and other concepts, such as astrology, have taught you that this is the sort of system that you're supposed to interpret, right? what is a capricorn if not a loose collection of traits that give you a certain vibe? that's what we're working with when it comes to aspects. otherwise, how would you know what void, or doom, or mind are? tbh it's actually pretty genius that astrology was worked into the comic as an aesthetic element, just so we'd all be mentally primed to do this kind of categorical interpretation... hell, even the actual signs themselves constitute a framework with which you could analyze the characters, like, how does Nepeta display typical leo traits, or how is Vriska a stereotypical scorpio... it all still works, even as you understand that each individual is more complex than the traits which support that interpretation.
in this way, the aspects are never really explained exhaustively verbatim, and are almost solely defined by the traits you've observed from individual characters, who act as representatives for what these categories actually are. or at least how they function in this instance, which is what's relevant. it's not just superpowers, and it's not just archetypes... it's both at the same time, and you come at them from a character-first perspective when you're trying to figure out what they mean. the characters inform your knowledge of the categories, and the categories act as a framework for analyzing the characters. and I love how homestuck tricks you into assuming that it has a lot of little rigid categories for the characters to slot into, and how quickly it becomes apparent that everything is way more abstract than it first appears. and yet, it all still means something. and it's really interesting to, say, compare two different time players to try to piece together what is typical for that archetype, while also accounting for their class, and trying to understand how that changes the roles they play and the ways they behave. and then you have the trolls' caste system on top of that, and the astrology angle I mentioned earlier, and there are honestly so many overlapping ways to think about it all, and I think that's the point.

Phoenix Mountain Kiss and Consent/Boundaries in MDZS
The following opinion, expressed in the recent mdzs controversial opinion thread on twitter, is actually one I’ve meant to address for a while:
Even if most of fans loves the 'stolen kiss scene' in the Phoenix Mountain in the novel, that was a sexual harassment.
People in the fandom, especially those who were introduced first to the novel through cql, have a tendency to criticize the Phoenix Mountain kiss scene, saying it was non-consensual. My problem is not that they are wrong. The kiss is (or starts as, at the very least) non-consensual. My problem with this criticism is that people point this out as if it were a mistake. As if mxtx had meant to write a romantic kiss and had instead fumbled it all up and made it not consensual by virtue of not being woke, not being a good enough writer, or being too influenced by bl tropes. And that readers are too unsuspecting or not educated enough to realize the wrong mxtx committed.
Here’s my hot take: The kiss is non-consensual because it was written to be non-consensual. mxtx is not trying to pull the wool over our eyes. The reason why we, as readers, can infer that, is because the non-consensual aspects of the kiss are important to the events of the plot, some of themes explored in the book, lwj and wwx’s relationship after wwx’s return, and lwj’s character arc. mxtx uses this moment and its aftermaths, amongst others, to make a point about consent and communication in relationships--one of the central themes of the novel. Shocking, I know. Arguing that consent and communication are a main theme in mdsz: now that's a controversial opinion.
Now, I won’t argue mxtx always manages to develop this theme with utmost finesse. You can critique and disagree with her treatment of the theme throughout the novel (taking into consideration, as well, how it’s not just explored through lwj and wwx’s relationship). That being said, isolating events in the novel like the Phoenix kiss scene to mark them as Good or Bad without considering the context in which they happen and are explored within the novel is just bad literary analysis :/.
Let’s first consider this simple statement: the non-consensual aspect of the kiss is not accidental--mxtx knew it was non-consensual when she wrote it, and she wasn’t trying to hide that fact.
By the time we reach the Phoenix Mountain competition, lwj has accepted his feelings for wwx, and that these feelings will not be returned. After all, in the xuanwu cave, wwx took great pains to ‘reassure’ him that he is super-straight-and-totally-would-never-flirt-with-him. Yet, wwx continues to ‘flirt’ with him--tossing a flower at him just before the competition--which we can gather is a source of, um, great torment for him.
We are not privy to lwj’s thought process leading to the stolen kiss. What we know for certain, however, is how he reacts to and perceives his own actions after the fact.  Through wwx’s unreliable narration, we can still understand that lwj immediately regrets his actions and feels uncontrollable anger towards himself and his lack of self-restraint. While wwx has more complicated and contradictory feelings bout the kiss, lwj clearly sees his actions as wrong and disrespectful. He is scared of what he has been capable of doing unto another person--pushing wwx away the moment he sees him after the kiss.
The person spun around. It was Lan Wangji after all. However, right now, his eyes were bloodshot, his expression almost frightening. Wei Wuxian was startled, “Wow, so scary.”
Lan Wangji’s voice was harsh, “Go!”
Wei Wuxian, “I just came here and you want me to go. Do you really hate me that much?”
Lan Wangji, “Stay away from me!” [chapter 69]
As readers, we are told that the Phoenix Mountain kiss, nor its implications, is not something to consider lightly. The fact that lwj’s reaction after the kiss is written in, and that it is so intense for someone usually so reserved, or the fact that we learn that more than a decade later he is still ashamed of himself and describe himself as having done something wrong (or, very wrong 很不对 ), all prove that the non-consensual aspect of the kiss is not an accident and is not downplayed as something to expect from someone in love with another person.
蓝忘机闷声道:“我,那时,自知不对。很不对。” [chapter 111]
I can already hear some people ask: even if it was not an accident, why chose to include a non-consensual kiss between the two romantic leads? if not because it is a bl trope/weird kink, why did mxtx chose to put this in her novel? what do we gain by including dubious consent or non-consensual interactions in our fiction?
The long-short answer is: because the act of crossing boundaries is a very productive story-telling device for any piece of media focusing on any type of interpersonal relationships. Crossing boundaries--willfully or unintentionally--is a source of conflict, internal and/or relational, which can drive the plot forward, shape character development and relationships, as well as be useful for certain thematic discussions.
Current discourses regarding consent in English-speaking, mostly-western spheres of the web tend to be very polarized, painting people who cross boundaries as bad. The solution presented (i.e. how to not be a bad person) tends to be an invitation for everyone, within any relationship, to constantly negotiate consent verbally and honestly: to constantly disclose boundaries, to constantly ask for permission, etc. While I do not dismiss the value of these suggestions, it is an ideal representative of certain socio-temporally specific cultural expectations of what communication is, how communication should happen, and how relationships should be like, etc.. Human relationships are messy, people are flawed and hurt each other, and we have complex internal lives (for instance, someone might not realize their wants or limits until they are faced with them). Instead of having media show us only a specific type of idealized relationships where boundaries are never crossed, ever, they allow us to explore the implications of boundaries within interpersonal relationships. Or, sometimes, media and fiction just aim to represent or are influenced by this very real part of human relationships, and use it as a way to create conflict within the narrative and relationships (sometimes in a interesting manner, sometimes in a very gross manner).
In mdsz, the Phoenix mountain non-consensual kiss is a two-fold source of conflict:  internal (lwj) and relational. While wwx remains unaware until he and lwj are together of the identity of the person who kissed him, the implications of the kiss ends up shaping their relationship both before and after wwx’s rebirth.
A source of (unknown) conflict between lwj and wwx after he is summoned back from the dead is the fact that lwj believes wwx is aware of his feelings. But this conflict is further compounded by the fact that lwj has once forced his feelings unto wwx, and is utterly afraid that he would dare to ever do it again. That is why, every time wwx initiates physical contact, or flirts very deliberately with lwj, lwj never goes further than what wwx has initiated. Sometimes, he even de-escalates their proximity or level of intimacy (usually by asking wwx to “ 别乱动”  or, famously during Drunk#2, by literally knocking himself out) --out of fear that he, again, would lack self-control and do something wrong to the man he loved.  He never presumes he has the permission to push their relationship further than what wwx is offering. Without that added source of conflict, would it have been reasonable to expect lwj and wwx to have realized their mutual feelings earlier, even with the issue of lwj not being aware wwx does not know of his feelings?
“In the beginning, the reason for behaving in such a manner was to let Lan Wangji be disgusted with him and kick him out of the Cloud Recesses, and they would never have to meet again, going their separate ways. Lan Wangji couldn’t possibly tell what his real intentions were. Yet, [..] even when faced with Wei Wuxian’s various actions, tricks, and pranks, Lan Wangji never once lost his temper, reciprocating with restraint and courtesy.” [chapter 99]
That is all true, of course, until Drunk 3. Here again, the ghost of the stolen kiss plays a part in accentuating the conflict. Without it, would lwj have jumped to conclusions as quickly? And, plot-wise, the shared perception of wwx and lwj that they have taken advantage of the other is a source of conflict that does multiple things--it gives wwx an incentive to go look at the temple at night to distract himself from his guilt and sadness, instead of going the next day with lwj (at which point jgy would have had perhaps already left) and it keeps wwx in the dark about lwj’s feelings until lxc reveals to him the events of the past he has forgotten. Here again, issues of consent are clearly taken into consideration as a source of conflict, shaping both characters’ motivations and the events of the plot.
Finally, the theme of consent/boundaries is an important aspect of lwj’s internal struggle, particularly in relation to his father’s choices. The kiss is part of his journey.
It is not coincidental that the Lan motto is “Be Honorable”/”Self-restraint,” and that lwj is presented as the model Lan disciple. This element is part of the context that gives narrative and thematic meaning to the non-consensual kiss. When lwj forces a kiss on a blindfolded wwx, lwj goes against the values he holds dear and the teachings that were imparted unto him--prime internal conflict.
But what is also interesting, to me in any case, is how consent is the thing that ultimately differentiates lwj’s choices from his father’s.
How willing was Lan-furen to be saved by Qingheng-jun? to be taken to live in seclusion in the Cloud Recesses? to be married to him? to have children with him? The novel never tells us clearly. However, the novel gives us an idea of how lqr, lxc and lwj perceive their parents’ relationship. For lwj, we are given an insight into his perception indirectly during the following conversation between him and lxc.
[Lan Xichen] spoke, “Wangji, is there something on your mind? Why have you been so tense?”
Of course, in most people’s eyes, the ‘tenseness’ probably looked no different than Lan Wangji’s other expressions.
Lan Wangji’s brows sunk low as he shook his head. A few moments later, he replied in a low voice, “Brother, I want to take someone back to the Cloud Recesses.”
Lan Xichen was surprised. “Take someone back to the Cloud Recesses?”
Lan Wangji nodded, his expression pensive. After a pause, he continued, “Take them back… and hide them somewhere.”
Lan Xichen’s eyes immediately widened.
[…]
“Hide them somewhere?”
Lan Wangji frowned softly. “But they are not willing.” [chapter 72]
Indirectly, we come to understand that lwj draws parallels with his father situation: they both want to protect someone by taking them to the Cloud Recesses, but these persons are unwilling. The unsaid question here is, would I choose to do as our father did?
The non-consensual kiss is part of lwj’s journey, through which he comes to understand that, despite his strict upbringing and disciplined lifestyle that was supposed to keep him from becoming like his father, he is capable of being his father (or at least who he thinks his father is). He learns that he can understand what sort of passionate feelings could bring someone to do something that goes against not only the wishes of his clan members, but the very wishes of the person they love, for the sake of keeping them safe or for the sake of having them by their sides. And at the end of that internal journey, lwj chooses not be like his father--to put wwx’s decisions and wants and needs first. After buyetian, lwj offers his protection and confesses his feelings--and wwx rejects him. lwj respects wwx’s choice, while still going against his clan to protect him. He brings wwx back to Mass Grave Hill knowing full well that wwx would not survive long the wrath of the four great sects seeking revenge against him, and goes home to receive his punishment.
Overall, what I tried to say in many many words, is that the Phoenix Mountain kiss is not non-consensual by accident. It is not because mxtx is an awful person or is not educated enough, or because she thinks dubious consent is romantic. The fact that it is non-consensual is addressed within the narrative, fuels internal and external conflicts, and is as well woven into the plot structure and the themes of the novel. The kiss is not an outlier element, added to titillate a readership--it exists as an integral part of the novel.
I’m not saying it’s not okay to decide that you do not want to engage with any content that includes non-consensual interactions or dubious consent because that triggers or irks you regardless of the way it is handled. It is totally valid to not personally enjoy or have criticisms about choices mxtx made in exploring these themes, in presenting the internal and relational conflicts around consent/boundaries, or even in the way she decided to write the scenes that figure dubious consent. However, it is not really helpful to divorce an event from its context within a piece of media in order to brand it as either Problematic or Unproblematic, Good or Bad.
Note: Much more could be said about the theme of consent/boundaries in mdzs; this is not exhaustive in the least.
Note2: Much more could be said, in relation to the question and theme of consent, about: the cultural limitations of Westerners to engage fully with a text written for a chinese audience; the limits of fan translators to fully understand  the nuances and themes of a novel and to communicate them in a different language; about the place dubious consent and non-consensual interactions has had in the romance/erotica genre for a long time, and no, not only because Misogyny or Homophobia.

Day 26 of the 31 Days of Apex: Legacy cw:  Mild Revenant/Pathfinder, fluff, mention canon typical elements
"I want my legacy to be flowers."
Pathfinder's greenhouse was doing better and better with each month he put into it. It flourish and thrived, and a lot of people liked the pictures that he took of it and posted online. People were really happy that he was putting so many flowers into the world. He got all sorts of people that messaged him tips and tricks. He had people that contacted asking him for seeds, asking for advice on how to tend to flowers, asking for him if they could send him seeds. So many people were so happy to see him putting so many flowers into the world. And it made him happy, both to do it and because other people were happy.
"Flowers are... nice. They make people happy. I like to give flowers to my friends. Bangalore has a number of my roses. I grew some Blue Mountain Heath for Bloodhound to remind them of home. Mirage has asked me for a number of yellow flowers for his mother. Caustic asked me for a small cactus that he could keep on his desk. Flowers have let get just a bit closer to my friends."
Pathfinder had managed to make a few rare flowers bloom in his greenhouse. It took a lot of work for some of them, a lot of time and dedication, and even with his blocky hands, he managed it. That made a lot of people happy, and a number of plant biologists asked if he could send them seeds when they were at the seeding stage, so that they could repopulate the flowers and make them less rare. He was happy to help science, and promised to do so. He also promised to share what he had done about getting them to flower to help then along. People would also send him rare or stubborn to grow flowers, just see if he could do it, and he was always happy to share the pictures of their first sprouts and show off his success.
"It is nice to make something grow, to nurture and raise it and help it grow and make it into something wonderful and amazing. It is nice to help grow new life where there was nothing."
Pathfinder was... missing a lot in his life. Memories scratchy and missing pieces. Sometimes he felt listless and purposeless, not held back by anything, but also left floating free and without any ground underneath of him. Sometimes it was scary and lonely. Sometimes he was sad. Recent events with Ash, not withstanding, life in his current time was turbulent. Tending to his flowers help him find a sense of calm, helped ground him. Helped lift up his spirits as he worked the soil and let his flowers grow.
"I know it may be strange for someone like me, who is involved in a blood specter sport, to want my legacy to be this, but... sometimes you just want to put good into the world when most everything you just takes people out of it. I want to do good, I want to put good in this world. I want to put flowers and let them blood and thrive. And when I am gone, for whatever reason. Time, destruction, weapon fire, rust, rot or ruin. I want my legacy to be the flowers I left behind. How they made the world a brighter place, a happier place."
Pathfinder liked to think that his simple goal of leaving the world a little brighter was not too ambitious of a goal. Especially if it was through flowers. But a simple dream was often easier to do and accomplish. And when you lived by fighting to the death in an arena, even if he was a MARVN unit, he liked to think that he was conscientious about the fact that there was a chance that he would 'die' in the arena. And that would be okay, because he had his flowers and they would be his legacy.
The interview was done, Pathfinder flashed a smiling emoji when the reporter thanked him and praised him for what he wanted his legacy to be. It was nice to hear other people say so. When he rose to free up the room for the next Legend to be interviewed, he stepped outside and almost bumped into Mirage holding a... pot?
"H-hey Path!" Mirage said, quickly adjusting the pot in his hand. In it was a small lilac tree sampling, it looked very young but very healthy. "Um..."
"Hello, friend Mirage! Are you here for the interview?" Pathfinder asked.
"Nah, I already did mine," Mirage said. "A-actually I was hoping to catch you, pal."
"Oh?"
"Y-eah. The nurse that takes care of my mon said she f-fe-fo-- that this was in her yard," Mirage said, holding up the pot. "Um... figured you'd know what it was and maybe a g-good home for it?"
"That is a lilac tree, a fragrant flowering tree that blooms for a short time with aromatic small pale purple flowers," Pathfinder said. "And yes! I have been asked to help grow some trees past the first few stages to plant in a local park. They will love a lilac tree!"
"Well um... here ya go pal!" Mirage said, holding out the pot for Pathfinder to take. "An-and thanks again for the sunflowers for my mom... she really loves them."
"I am glad!"
He carried the pot for awhile, intent on taking it back to his greenhouse to plant and prepare to grow for a short period. Before he left the building, he almost startled himself by almost walking past Revenant, carrying a small pot with a small rose with white outer petals and apricot petals in the center.
"Hello friend Revenant, what are you carrying--"
"Take it."
Revenant handed the pot off to Pathfinder before turning and leaving. Pathfinder cocked his head, but did not say anything. Revenant was very odd, but he really liked Revenant. So he just took the new flower with him. He looked down to identity it--
"Juliet Rose, a very... very... very rare breed of rose," Pathfinder questioned.
Revenant had gotten him a rose. Revenant had gotten a very rare rose.
Pathfinder's screen turned into an embarrassed emoji.

Chapter 2
Chris
Chris watched his sister's back as she disappeared down the corridor. Something about her overall appearance was bothering him, but he pushed the thoughts away. Claire always hated it when he hovered over her, and, considering that he hadn't seen the woman in almost three months, he didn't want to spoil their time together by annoying his sister.
"Huh, she's going to be mopping about this later," Saya sighed, "she will be feeling guilty after all this."
The comment caught Chris's attention, and the soldier turned to the Asian doctor with a quizzical look.
"Guilty? Why?" Chris asked.
"Well, it isn't like she gets a lot of friendly visitors often. I can tell she was overjoyed to have you here, but with all this mess, unfortunately, with this mess, Claire has barely been a proper host, and that will haunt her."
Chris felt a pinch of guilt at the woman's words. He knew Claire was a strong girl. Claire had always been independent, but she valued family like nothing else. She probably missed him as much as he missed her; maybe he should consider dropping by more often.
"You seem to know her well," Leon said casually, looking around the place.
"We are old friends and colleagues," Saya said, picking a notepad and scribbling something, "we have grown close after sharing so many night shifts side by side. I am not sure which of us spends more time in this building. Maybe we should start a contest on that."
"Night Shifts?" Chris asked, "She has night shifts?"
"Well, her promotion carried a lot of extra work," Saya explained, "Sometimes the amount is ridiculous, especially when the other chiefs are calling and asking for help. She's too kind to say no. Sometimes she has so much work that she just gave up going home at night. I do the same, so eventually, we ended up making each other company."
"So, she hasn't been going home?"Jill asked.
"She does, but rarely. Deep down inside, I believe she prefers it here because that way, she won't feel lonely. You know she lives alone, and sometimes when something bothers her or she wakes up from a nightmare, it is nice to have someone to chat with and have some hot chocolate."
"Nightmares?" Barry asked.
"She still has them?" Moira asked.
Chris looked at the girl, and he saw Barry put his arm protectively around his daughter.
"Yes, it has become a regular thing lately. I heard yours have become less frequent," Saya said, tilting her head.
Moira nodded and looked at her dad.
"Natalia and I used to have them for a while, too," Moira said, and Barry rubbed her back comfortingly, "but they have almost stopped completely."
"Well, that's good," Saya nodded, "unfortunately, our Claire wasn't so lucky."
"I didn't know she still had them. I mean, we all lived a nightmare on that fucking island. She should have told me. Talking it out might help."
Saya smiled and sighed.
"You know she wouldn't say a word," Saya shrugged.
"Well, why not? We went through that hell together."
Chris was the one with the answer to that.
"Because she always keeps quiet," Chris sighed, "It's been like this since she was a kid. Claire never says anything when she is having trouble with something."
"She doesn't want to worry us, probably," Leon said.
He had spoken with her a few times on the phone. She usually asked how things were doing, and when he returned the question, she merely said she was bored or lots of work. On the phone, it was hard to tell when the girl was hiding something, and the younger Redfield was proficient in that area.
Their chat was suddenly interrupted by the sound of the automatic doors opening. They had expected it to be Claire, but instead, a tall blonde man wearing a black security uniform came in, walking impatiently.
"Ok, Redfield, why did you need me? It better be for a good reason, because I've got to reboot the system, and that is not doing itself."
The blonde stopped dryly and stared at the group in confusion.
"Ok, now this is weird..." he said, turning to the Asian doctor.
"Wallace," Saya said, surprised, "What are you doing here?"
"What do you mean? Red called me up here. Isn't Redfield here?"
"Well, that depends on which Redfield, kid," Barry snorted.
"What?"
The man was visibly confused, but it was Moira who cleared it up for him. She pointed at Chris lazily.
"What my dad means," Moira said, pointing at Chris, "he is Chris Redfield. I mean the Chris Redfield, you know. Claire's beloved brother?"
"Oh! Now, that makes sense. I'm Grant Wallace, Head of cybersecurity. he said, shaking Chris's hand ceremoniously, "It's an honor to meet you, at last, brother. Forgive my lack of courtesy. I am in a rush since I need to fix the crap those hackers did to my precious system. Let me be a little more specific, then, is Claire here?"
"No, she isn't here," Saya said, crossing her arms, "She left some minutes ago to find you."
"She... what? Why?"
"Why?" Saya said, indignantly, "You called her, and now you ask why?"
"What? I never called her. She was the one who asked me to come up here."
"This isn't time for jokes," Saya chastised him. "We all heard it. You said that there was something in the Command Center you wanted her to see."
"I never said..." Wallace said, "I was in command, and she told me she was having issues with the security system in the lab. She even told me to drag my lazy ass up here, or she would make me pay."
Everyone fell silent, and it was then that something clicked inside Chris's head. If the man had not called Claire, and he was there. Who was waiting for Claire at the Command Center?
"Where is the Command Center?" he said with a grave tone, "Save the talk, just answer…"
"Basement, but…"
Saya's eyes went wide, and Grant fell into realization.
"It is a trap. Someone lured Claire there," Chris said furiously.
Before anyone could react, Chris was already running out of the room, followed closely by Leon and Jill.
Everyone fell silent. It was then that a switch clicked in Chris's head.
"Where is the Command Center?" he said with a grave tone, "Save the talk, just answer…"
"Basement, but there's no one at the Command Center," Wallace said, "and you say I called her down? There's something wrong there."
Wallace's eyes widened, and he looked at Chris in shock.
"Someone lured Claire there," Chris said furiously. "It is a trap!"
Before anyone could react or say anything, Chris was making his way through the corridor, heading for the stairs. The others exchanged glances, and with no more to say, Jill and Leon ran after him.
"Claire, you better be in one piece when I get there," Chris thought out loud as he ran down the stairs, followed by Leon and Jill.
Leon was the first one to follow him as soon as they had found out that Claire was potentially in danger. They were good friends; that fact was not a secret. Both had gone through a lot during the first outbreak in Racoon City, and those kinds of events usually created everlasting bonds between people. If there was anyone as worried as Chris was, it had to be him.
The second set of footsteps were Jill's. The woman seemed worried.
"We need to hurry. I want to be wrong, but if I am not, Claire will need our help," Chris told his companions.
Claire wasn't a damsel in distress. If she had to kick some asses, she would do it without trouble. But if she got tricked down there, she would not have been able to foresee the ambush that awaited her, and the element of surprise would leave her in a disadvantageous position.
They reached the Command Center in a short time. The office door was ajar, and there was no sign of Claire anywhere. That made Chris have a bad feeling.
The trio stepped into the room cautiously. There were evident signs of a struggle: papers scattered on the ground, furniture turned over, and few bloodstains on the floor. There had been a fight, and Chris prayed with all his heart that the red liquid on the ground wasn't Claire's blood. After inspecting the place, they came to the sad conclusion that it was empty.
Chris cursed himself for being late as he watched helplessly around the empty room.
"Shit, where are you, Claire?" Chris growled.
"Chris..."
The soldier turned to Leon. The man had crouched, and he was holding something silver in his hand. Chris recognized it at once.
"That's Claire's necklace."
"It seems she got ambushed," Jill said, after looking at the scene, "No deaths, as there are no corpses, but judging by the looks, someone got beaten into a pulp."
As long as that someone wasn't his sister, it was fine. Chris could live with it.
"Three attackers," Jill said, "Male and trained. I think Claire knocked out two, but she missed the third one. They can't be too far."
"We gotta move if we want to find her, then."
Jill nodded. The group was ready to step out when Jill stopped them and brought a finger against her lips, telling them to be silent. Someone was outside the room. The trio exchanged looks and took cover to listen.
"That bitch didn't go down without a fight, huh?" an unknown male voice said, "she's feisty. I guess that is why they are interested."
"She's tougher than the other ones," a second voice said, "what do you suppose they do with them?"
"That's none of your business. Our task is to collect the subjects. The rest is up to them," the first man said. "Now, move. You don't want to be in the city when they drop those presents in the city."
"Now that's going to be a show. What do you think those guys will send this time?"
"Some of their ugly pets, probably."
Chris looked at Leon and Jill. Those last words made the hair on the back of Chris's neck stand up. They were planning an attack on the city, and if it were as bad as Chris imagined, Hughesville would soon turn into a second Lanshiang Catastrophe.
"Let's see how those stupid TerraSavers handle that," the first voice said with amusement.
The trio held their breath as the voices receded. Chris had to restrain himself from attacking the men with his fists. Those men were his best chance at finding Claire. He would make them pay, but until his sister was safe and sound, he would let them go.
"Are they planning to launch an attack here?" Jill asked, "I can't believe this."
"We should get used to this crap," Chris said with anger, "Jill, go back to Barry and the others. We need to warn the BSAA about a possible bioterrorist attack asap. We need the forces to get moving before things get out of control."
"Yes, of course," Jill nodded, "what are you going to do?"
"Isn't that obvious?" Chris said, fiercely, "I am hunting down those assholes and getting my sister back."
"Chris, don't get me wrong, but going after them all on your own..." Jill said, and Chris growled.
"If I wait, I'll lose them. I can't let that happen."
"Yes, I understand that, but you can't expect me to let you go alone."
"He won't," Leon said. "I'll go with him. I'll help him get Claire back, so you can focus on evacuating the people before this becomes another tragedy."
Jill looked at them and hesitated.
"I have Leon as my backup. I will be fine. The attack will happen soon. If we want to save as many people as we can, we need to hurry. I am sure everyone in TerraSave will help us."
Jill nodded. The woman turned on her heels and ran back through the corridor, leaving the soldier and the agent behind. Chris knew that Jill was reluctant to leave. She loved Claire, too, and the idea of the girl getting kidnapped by a bunch of terrorists didn't make her happier than it made Chris. However, duty was a duty; the woman turned on her heels and ran back through the corridor, leaving the soldier and the agent behind.
Chris turned to Leon and found the agent fidgeting with his mobile phone.
"I contacted Hunnigan and asked her to help us track down Claire's kidnappers."
"Great, that will come in handy," Chris nodded, "Did you bring any weapons?"
Leon gave him a smile of irony and showed him the holster under his jacket.
"After all these years," Leon said, "They never leave my side."
"Tch, it must be nice to have the government's permission to carry your toys," Chris scoffed, "Fair enough. Let's move, then."
The two men rushed out of the room, following the path that the two chatting men from earlier had taken. It wasn't long before Leon and Chris caught up with them. It was a group of six men wearing black suits and masks. One of them, as Chris noted, was carrying an unconscious Claire over his shoulders. The sight was enough to make the man's blood boil, and the soldier clenched his fists, ready to throw a few punches.
The eldest Redfield looked at Leon, sending him a tacit plan, and the man nodded. They pulled out their guns and shot, aiming at the legs. The first man fell to the ground. The group was confused for a moment, but they soon reacted to their attackers. Three of the closest men began to fire back while the remaining ones sneaked away with Claire. It was evident that their priority was getting her out of the building.
Chris cursed. He had no time to waste, and the men were right in the way. He looked at Leon, and the blonde nodded, raising three fingers, counting down. When the last finger was out, the two jumped out from their cover and began firing at the men. The encounter lasted a couple of minutes, and soon the three attackers laid dead on the floor.
Leon seized the chance to check the bodies.
"What's that?" Chris asked, seeing that Leon had pulled out something from one of the body's pockets.
"A badge. I recognize it. It's one of those small terrorist groups that have ties to Neo-Umbrella," Leon muttered, "I'll let Hunnigan know. Let's get Claire back before they escape."
"Roger to that," Chris nodded.
The two men made their way through the empty corridors until they reached the underground parking lot. Chris and Leon made an abrupt stop when a black van passed them at full speed and broke through the parking entrance.
Chris glared at it and ran to the guard's office. The guard was on the floor. The soldier checked his vitals and concluded that the man was dead. There was nothing that he could do, so he picked a set of keys and rushed to grab one of Terra Save's vehicles.
It took them nothing to catch up with the van, and Chris was glad that no traffic had tried to stop him for his reckless driving. He could picture his sister's lecture about it in his mind, but considering the circumstances, Chris thought that his recklessness was reasonable.
"There they are," Leon said, putting out his gun, "keep it steady. I'll try to stop them."
Chris watched Leon stretch out through the window and began shooting. His accuracy was on point, and Chris was grateful that the agent was pointing at the tires only. It was the safest way to stop the car without the risk of hurting Claire in the crossfire.
"Leon, watch up," Chris said.
Two men were coming through the van's windows with their guys aiming at them. The exchange of fire was unavoidable, and Chris had to maneuver the car the best he could to avoid the incoming fire.
"The bastards came prepared," Leon groaned, reloading his gun. "I guess this won't be easy."
"Has it ever been easy?"
"Right," Leon snorted. The blonde aimed his gun and shot the man on the left.
The bullet hit the man cleanly on his forehead, killing him instantly.
"Nice shot," Chris smirked.
Leon smirked at the compliment, but the light mood short-lasting.
A loud crash resounded in the street as one of the closest buildings collapsed right in front of them, blocking the way and forcing the black van to make a turn to dodge the flying debris. A strong inhuman roar echoed through the city, and Chris found that howl unpleasantly familiar.
"Shit," Chris groaned, pushing the door open, "not this guy again."
"Friend of yours?" asked Leon, doing the same.
"Old acquaintance."
The ogroman let out a savage howl, hitting the nearby buildings with his large hands. The men in the black van had stepped out with their cargo. Claire was still unconscious. They seemed to have forgotten about their human chasers and were only concerned with finding a way to escape the infamous creature. The ogroman, however, had other plans. It snatched a couple of the more unlucky men and broke their bones with its hand.
Their fate wasn't one Chris wished for anyone, not even those damned terrorists.
"Great, just what we need," he growled.
"I am guessing you know how to deal with this guy," Leon asked with a frown.
"Yeah, and I can tell you we are not ready for this fight."
"Why am I not surprised?" Leon sighed. His attention got momentarily diverted from the monster as he watched the men take Claire through an alley. "Chris..."
Chris followed the blonde's sight and frowned. They ran to the alley to chase the escaping group but got violently stopped by the Ogroman punching the street. Chris and Leon rolled in opposite directions, evading the hit and the flying rocks.
"Shit," Chris cursed, "Are you okay, Leon?"
"I've been better," Leon groaned, "Any ideas?"
"Yeah, you follow those assholes. I'll take care of this guy."
"Are you nuts?"
"Don't worry. I know how to deal with it," Chris replied, "I'll distract it. You get Claire."
Leon pondered their options and nodded. Chris wasn't a rookie. He was a veteran with even more experience than Leon in some things. If someone could deal with that thing, it was him. Leon took some of his extra ammunition and threw them to Chris.
"Take this. You'll need it."
"Really. Where were you hiding these, huh?"
"I've got my tricks. Be careful, Chris."
"You, too, and make sure Claire is safe, or I'll kill you myself."
Leon snorted. He gave Chris a wave and ran into the alley, leaving the soldier to face the ogroman.
Chris could only trust that the man would save his sister; then again, Leon had proved himself a competent fighter and probably was the person that worried most about Claire, after himself, of course.
"Time to do some clean-up."
