Eddie gulped. It was now or ever. They were in an open field, preparing for battle against Vecna. If things went south, then he would never get the chance again. He watched Steve walk into the RV, followed by Lucas. He wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans before walking into the mobile home.

"Hey, Sinclair, can we talk?" Eddie asked.

"Sure, man," Lucas said.

"Do you need to me leave?" Steve asked.

"Nah, that's not necessary," Eddie replied. "I'll be quick. I just want to apologize."

"Eddie, it's okay - "

"No, it's not. I was an asshole. I need to apologize. My father never apologized for anything in his life, and I don't want to be like him. Look, I should have postponed Hellfire, and we should have been there for you. I shouldn't have pressured your best friends into not being there, and I sure, as hell, shouldn't have used your sister to replace you. You couldn't postpone your game, but I sure as hell could have postponed mine. I let my prejudices against jocks get in the way of what was truly important. Obviously, not all jocks are bad. I know that now. And you know, there's nothing wrong with being both a nerd and a jock - which I, of all people, should know about liking both considering that I'm bi - bilingual! Yes, bilingual!" Eddie said, and Lucas sniggered.

"Man, it's okay, I forgave you the minute you got framed for murder by an interdimensional evil wizard," Lucas said. "I totally get why you were so protective over the game, and honestly, I kind of lost myself a little bit there. I mean, I never told them that I played the game. I hid it like there was something to be ashamed of. There's not. I don't even know if I want to continue with basketball."

"Hey, if you really want to play the game, then you shouldn't let those assholes - any asshole, really, stop you from playing the game. This time, we'll be there to support you, and if the others complain, I'll kick their ass," Eddie said.

"Thanks, man," Lucas said.

They hugged each other tightly, and when they pulled apart, Steve was looking at Eddie with a crooked grin. There was a light in Steve's eyes that didn't seem platonic in the slightest.

"Sexy," Steve blurted out.

"Pardon?" Eddie asked.

"What?" Steve asked, blinking rapidly.

"What was that?" He asked.

"What was what?" Steve asked.

"What did you say?" Eddie asked.

"I said you were sneezy," Steve said quickly, blushing and starting to walk out of the RV.

"That doesn't even make sense, Steve!" Eddie exclaimed.

Eddie turned around to find Lucas laughing. He clapped Eddie on the shoulder.

"You should know that a lot of us around here are, you know, bilingual," Lucas sniggered again. "We're perfectly okay with that. So, if you want to tell us more about you being bilingual, then we'll be here to listen."

"You guys are just full of surprises," Eddie grinned.

Eddie walked out of the RV with Lucas feeling a thousand pounds lighter and more ready than ever to face what was coming.

since lucas was kinda hinted as bi, do you think byclair has a real chance in canon? what'd be your reaction if they went with byclair instead of byler after not developing lucas and will's bond that much for 4 seasons?

Hi, anon!!! First of all, thank you for the ask!

I really do think they are hinting at Lucas being bi, which makes me so very happy.

As for Byclair, I low-key ship it! They have a warm relationship and you can tell they both value and care about each other.

I especially love how Lucas is shown to be willing to take matters into his own hands where Will is concerned (S1 where he was determined to stop what he believed was the Party wasting time when they could be looking for Will the practical way, S3 where he went out of his way to talk to Will when they were alone and attempt to apologize for his AND Mike's bad behavior).

And the way he was so much like Jonathan when he was trying to bring Mike back to the (supposed) reality that Will was dead, even though there were tears in his eyes and you could tell it was breaking his heart to even acknowledge it out loud.

The way he says "then what was that in the water?" breaks my heart because you can hear and see his anguish....it's not that he doesn't want to believe Will is alive, but he's so hesitant to entertain foolish hopes and get heartbroken all over again.

That's the difference between Mike and Lucas' feelings to me. Lucas will do his best to move on without Will, but Mike's world literally shuts down without him. Time stops. A piece of him dies when Will is gone.

Of course, if they made it clear in S5 that Will was happiest with Lucas and their love was mutual and strong, I would be.*almost* content with a Byclair endgame.

Butttttttt......(and there is a big but here).......I think it would invalidate all the Byler buildup throughout the seasons.

It's been shown time and again that Mike is the one Will wants, and it doesn't look like he'll be getting over him anytime soon. And frankly, when I look back at all seasons of ST, I have trouble believing Mike could ever get over Will.

Besides that, even though Max is in a coma, she is still the one Lucas loves the most.

Honestly, the only way I could see a Byclair endgame is if Mike and Max both died and Lucas and Will found healing in each other.

That would be a very bittersweet ending, and while it would be nice to see Byclair sharing some tender moments, it would fall a bit flat to me knowing that all the crazy together, blue meets yellow in the west, paladin and cleric, etc was for nothing.

So to answer your question, I think a Byclair endgame would leave me feeling a little lost, like if this was somehow the twist ending they wanted us to see coming, why did they leave all the breadcrumbs leading to Byler? I wouldn't hate it, but I'd think less of the sbow's writing.

Slightly spicy headcanon to end this post: I could almost see Bywheelclair having a poly arrangement somewhere down the line where bi Lucas occasionally joins them for date night LMAO he's the only person I think Mike and Will would agree to share each other with, because c'mon, it's Lucas 😹 and bi Max would be cool with it because she and El would just have a date night of their own (Elumax canon)

I never thought about how cute Dustin and Robin's relationship would be, and before you get your undergarments in a bunch, of course, I mean platonically. Especially after Robin tells him about herself. He's already accepted Steve, so why not Robin. He didn't say anything, just hugged her around the middle.

"You know," Dustin would say. "I've always wanted a big sister."

Robin couldn't help it when she cried into his curls. Eventually, she starts to hang out with him at his house, where they spend hours introducing her to his favorite female comic book heroes. Robin ends up getting stuck on Wonder Woman. And when she's not her house, work, or school, she's over at the Hendersons with Steve. (Her parents loved Steve, too.) Eventually, Claudia just gives in and gets them bunk beds for the guest room.

"Where's your brother and sister?" Claudia would ask Dustin, and he would know immediately who she was talking about.

Because of Steve, she also ended up spending time with the Sinclairs. It got to the point where she was spending there. She didn't mind sharing a room with Erica. She loved that kid. She ended up sharing her secret with Erica, too. Erica hugged her.

"You tell anyone I hugged you, you're dead meat," she said and then more softly, "I'll never tell."

It was a few weeks later that she was lying in bed with bed with her new little sister when she realized that she had more in common with her than Robin had known.

"Robin?" Erica whispered. "How did you know you liked girls?"

They talked late into the night. Robin would gush about Vickie, and Erica would gush about Tina until they both fell asleep. (Meanwhile, Steve was having a similar conversation with Lucas.) When morning came, Sue smiled when she saw her girls cuddling with each other, sound asleep. If she let them sleep in, who could blame her? Claudia, the Sinclairs, and the Buckleys soon all started getting together to discuss how proud of their children they were.

Do u have any trans masc Max Mayfield headcanons?

I haven’t thought much about it but now I have so MANY thoughts!

-Max hasn’t had a lot of positive relationships with the men in his life, so it takes a long while for the “hm I don’t feel quite right” to click. He doesn’t feel super comfortable as a girl, but he looks at his step-dad and Billy and is like “well I don’t want to be anything like that, so this has to be okay.”

-He definitely knows more about gender/sexuality stuff than the others because of growing up in California. So he’s thought a lot about it over the years, but just kept coming to the conclusion that he’s a tomboy (again, no positive relationships with men.)

-It’s actually because of Lucas (and the rest of the Party, by extension) that he really starts to get more comfortable with the idea. Because Lucas is sweet, and he’s gentle, and so unlike any of the other men he’s been around. Lucas is the first person that kind of cracks his view on gender roles and what exactly defines a man.

-He butts heads with Mike a lot at first just because of how insistent Mike is about him being a girl, how he’s different and unwelcome because of it, but (if this is also transmasc Mike) they realize they’re actually really similar and grow closer because of it, or (if this isn’t transmasc Mike) Max realizes that it isn’t the “girl” thing that bothers him, it’s the fear of replacing El.

-If it’s both transmasc Max and transmasc Mike, Mike comes out WAY earlier than he would’ve on his own.

-The boys are all really supportive when he comes out (which would probably be around the season 3 era). They don’t really get it at first, but he’s their friend, and they’ve always been very vocal about how they’d kill for a friend if needed. And really, seeing Max as a boy isn’t all that different from what they were doing already, so it’s an easy adjustment.

-In a similar fashion to Max teaching El about being a girl in the show, the guys take him out on a “boys only” night. It isn’t really any different than their usual hangouts- they go to the movies, play video games, eat way too much junk food, but the boys only title makes Max feel all fuzzy and warm inside.

-He comes out to Billy while he’s dying. He didn’t ever really plan on doing it at all, but his step-brother is dying in his arms and he needs to get it off his chest before it’s too late. Billy is a lot of the reason it took so long for him to feel comfortable as himself, and he thinks Billy knows that once it’s out in the air. Unfortunately, Billy’s dead before he can really give much of a reaction, just a weak little “I’m sorry.” And that’s nowhere near enough to make up for everything.

-He comes out to his family that night in a screaming match with his step-dad. Neil is an asshole about it, but it doesn’t really matter because the whole argument starts because he’s gonna leave them. Susan is incredibly supportive, and she turns around and kicks Neil out even though she’d been begging him to stay moments before. Gives Max one of those big, therapeutic hugs where Max just sobs into her shirt.

-Max cuts his hair off after Billy’s death. He’s never had a problem with his hair, he actually likes it long, but he’s messed up over everything that happened. He leans a lot more into the stereotypes he hated as a kid, acts rougher and more stand-offish. He breaks up with Lucas, stops hanging out with the rest of his friends. He feels awful, because this is the first time in his life that he’s only surrounded by people that support and love him, but he feels like he doesn’t deserve it.

-(Vecna has a field day with all that)

-Post canon, he does grow his hair back out again. Lucas dramatically informs him that men with long hair are hot (bi king), to which Max shoots back that that would mean Mike was hot. Lucas gives Mike a quick once over and is like I mean, yeah.

-Lucas likes to greet people and go hi, yes, this is my boyfriend Max. He’s so cool. He pretty much single-handedly saved Hawkins that one time. And Max stands there with his face bright red in his hands like oh my god shut up

-Lumax and Byler double dates with an obnoxious amount of homo, striking fear into the hearts of conservative smalltown Indiana
