I do not own "The Vampire Diaries", it belongs to its original creator Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, and L. J. Smith. Nor do I own "Originals", which belongs to it's rightful creator Julie Plec, Michael Narducci, Leslie Morgenstein, Gina Girolamo. This is only a fanfiction that I was inspired to write by the original work. Please support the official release of "The Vampire Diaries" and "Originals". Most of the media - such as the art and illustrations, gifs, video's, etc. used in this fanfiction - are from the web. Thus, most of them aren't mine (because I really, really can't draw) unless mentioned. To fit the story, images are also edited by various apps and websites. So they aren't mine, just edited.

She had managed to grow out of a lot of her insecurities. But she couldn't bear the thought of Klaus not liking her. He had considered her perfect before... but now because of her power... would he-

"How could I be anything but proud of my Queen?" Klaus smirked, bowing down to kiss the back of her hand, all the well locking eyes with her. " After all, haven't I been a slave to your whims form the beginning?" "

This story will be pretty confusing, so here's some knowledge that should help make it... less confusing.

The one who came up with the original, wonderful idea for this was Tay on Ao3! I did make some changes to suit my vision. But a lot of the base ideas were requested by them. So a huge shout out to them. Because I would never have thought of any of this, without them. So thank you.

I know this kind of sounds like a crack fic, but I swear to you it isn't. Caroline's a BAMF who will be treated like the Queen she is, by the people who matter.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? not all of them. i do try to keep up on them, especially on longer stories when there's been significant wait times in between chapters, or when a reader is asking a question or is unclear on something. and especially when someone writes a really indepth comment/review, i like to respond to those and talk about motivations and character growth.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I've written a number of fics that either had suicide or major character death, so i'm not sure if one outranks the other in terms of most angsty... hmm... i remember "be still and know that I'm with you (be still and know that I am here)" and "light a match, burn the world to ash (I will watch it die, and hold your hand as I fly)" both got some pretty intense reactions when they were posted. And "It's Your Song That Sets Me Free (I Sing It While I Feel I Can't Go On)" was basically just angst from beginning to end. buuuuut, i think i'll say "so you think you can tell (heaven from hell" was, only because there's a build up of everything going so right, only to pivot at the end, so it feels very bittersweet.

Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written? i loooooove crossovers. i find writing in the marvel fandom makes things quite easy, but also smallville. as long as i can find a common thread, i enjoy finding a way to overlap two shows. i'll say the hardest one to write was "ruby red slippers (unavailable in her size)." I'm not sure why, but i found writing each personality together just felt strange. i liked the idea behind the story, but i definitely remember feeling like i was really forcing myself to keep going, like something just didn't fit right.

Have you ever received hate on a fic? oh, definitely. you cannot please everyone, it's impossible. for the most part, hate comes and i either argue back, take the criticism for what it's worth, or just ignore it when it's baseless. i think the hate that bothered me the most was a homophobic PM someone sent me re: "you know I will adore you ('til eternity)," on FFnet. i actually went and searched it up. they've since blocked me so i can't read our whole thread back and forth. but i did put part of it on tumblr so i could rant on it a bit, so you can see that here.

Do you write smut? If so what kind? ha. yes. depending on the story, it can be really detailed or really flowery. it depends on the ship, the plot, and how graphic i feel like being. i've definitely become more comfortable over the years with my writing. that said, i think everybody likes something different. i once had a reviewer tell me a sex scene was too much, just too intense. it was a stefan/caroline story and to be fair, that entire oneshot was just them fucking, lol, but it is what it is. to each their own.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Multiple times.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! for the record, i am always happy to have my stories translated and shared. i just like having a link sent to me and to be credited.

What’s your all time favorite ship? i have a list of OTPs, because interests change and as shows come and go, my love for a ship can be shelved for a while before it pops back up at random. currently, i can't get enough of buck/eddie from 9-1-1. and, historically, chloe/oliver (smallville) and felicity/oliver (arrow) have been two of my top OTPs. but i think i'd have to go with bonnie/damon. they had all the potential and the show dropped the ball by not exploring it. at the same time, that's kind of a blessing, because i don't trust those writers to properly explore what they had without eventually destroying it for the likes of de/ena. it means a treasure trove for writing where it could have gone and all the what if's.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will? the intention is always to finish. but given how i feel about allison mack and how that impacts my feelings re: chloe sullivan, pretty much anything with her as a main character is not something i see myself returning to.

What are your writing strengths? What are your writing weaknesses? i'm putting these together because my strength is my weakness. i love to write. when i get an idea, i go all in and i will skip eating and sleeping to just write write write. but i also eventually hit a wall and i get so many ideas that i hyperfocus on one until the steam is gone and then i hyperfocus on the next one to maintain that need to keep writing, accidentally leaving the last story in the dust for entirely too long. i also have clinical depression that comes and goes, which hasn't been super great mixed with covid and isolation, so more often recently, i find myself overly exhausted and despite wanting to write, can rarely get motivated to do so. so, pre-covid, wrote so much i left entirely too many stories dangling. during covid, i've just been reading and struggling to get myself focused enough to do what i love.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? i appreciate the authenticity when possible, but i've recently been reading more about how native speakers of other languages feel when a) their language is butchered by google translate, or b) it's just not genuine in terms of how bilingual speakers act or speak.

What was the first fandom you’ve written for? it was smallville, but i remember adopting it out to someone else because i wasn't going to finish it. so if you look at my ffnet, the first fandom i wrote for appears to be x-men: the movie, but i remember writing a chloe/oliver story prior to that.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? i have a lot. i mean, on ffnet, i have 576 stories, many of which were transferred over to ao3, with a lot of oneshots and drabbles getting joined together into collections. so there's a ton to pick from that span a 14-ish year timeline.

"you know I will adore you ('til eternity)" and "let me break (the walls that surround me)" hold a special place in my heart.

honestly, each story is important in its own way. there are bits and pieces of each that i love. every time i write something new it feels like my favorite. my best. and then a new idea comes along. there are scenes i've written that i loved more than the whole of what they became. lines that stand out that are almost too good to be a part of the larger picture.

one of my all time favorite passages i've written was bonnie's thoughts on damon and herself in 'if you love me (let me go)":

He is far from perfect. He is a novel of red, corrective ink. He is frayed pages and torn binding. His life, his choices, his mistakes leave lasting effects on everyone he meets.

She is a lifeboat with a hole in it. An anchor that drowns in the sea while everyone else remains steady above. She is both the calm and the storm, and while she screams that she will not be tamed, she cries. Bittersweet tears that go unnoticed and uncared about.

there are other stories, other pieces of dialogue, that i've been proud of. that make me laugh when i re-read them. that make me cry. and i love them. there are others that make me wilt and cringe and regret. it's a process. love and pride and growth, all bound together.

FAVES and FAILS: The Vampire Diaries

So I have decided that since The Vampire Diaries has a spin off, The Originals, I am going to divide the characters based on where they appeared the most. So on this list I will be talking about the Salvatores, the Petrova/Gilbert line, the Bennets and Caroline, etc. but I will discuss the Mikaelsons, Hayley, etc. on their own list with the other characters that appeared on The Originals mostly. As always, spoilers are abound as I will discuss storylines and character arcs below, so be warned of that. In any case, here’s my FAVES and FAILS for The Vampire Diaries.

FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER: Damon Salvatore

Could it be anyone else? I don’t think so. He’s a delightful little sociopathic shit and I love everything about him. He is 99% id and 1% ego, if that, and even when I hated him, I loved him (god, I sound like Elena…). In any case, love this man, five stars, would recommend, chef’s kiss.

LEAST FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER: …I think Matt Donovan…?

Ugh, it’s hard to pick between Matt, Tyler, and Jeremy, but I think it has to be Matt. I never enjoyed his judgey attitude against everything supernatural, he seemed pretty whiney most of the time, and he was just genuinely uninteresting for the majority of the show. Not into it. Pass.

FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER: Katherine Pierce (Katarina Petrova)

I thought about giving this post to Caroline by default, but if it comes down to it, Katherine nudges her way into the top spot. Katherine gave no fucks, knew what she wanted and was unapologetic about how she went about getting it, and an all around bad bitch. Was she primarily evil? Yes. But, to be honest, it never really bothered me.

LEAST FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER: Bonnie Bennet

God, this woman was annoying. She was hypocritical, judgmental, and far too holier than thou for me to swallow her bullshit. She constantly played favorites with Caroline and Elena (I’m sorry, you hold Caroline becoming a vampire against her for like two seasons, but when Elena becomes one, it’s not her fault? Sure.). She hated all supernatural creatures because they “go against nature”, but it’s totally chill for you to perform sacrificial magic to get what you want, unleashing a terrible evil in the process (but it’s not her fault). How she nearly excommunicated Caroline just because she stayed with Stefan after Stefan killed Enzo, as if it was her fault in any way. How everyone treated her like she was a special little unicorn because she’s a Bennet Witch and she’s so magical, like, please, gag me. I could go on, but I honestly cannot be bothered. Hard pass.

THE CHARACTER THAT DESERVED BETTER: Caroline Forbes

She was essentially shunned by all of her friends and family for becoming a vampire, even though she didn’t choose to become one at all. Also, she was basically used as collateral damage for the entire Salvatores and Gilberts versus The Mikaelsons debacle just because Klaus liked her. She was always the second choice no matter what the situation was (unless it’s her being impregnated with magical twins without her consent and then guilted into carrying the babies, but poor Alaric just lost his wife. I’m sorry, unless it’s your uterus, shut the fuck up). I’ll just be over here doing what exactly NO ONE on the show did, and pick Caroline first.

DEADWEIGHT CHARACTER WE SHOULD’VE DUMPED IN 2009: Tyler Lockwood

I couldn’t pick Matt twice, so Tyler, I guess. He was selfish, a terrible boyfriend to both Caroline and also Liv later, and if I have to hear that boy whine about his fucking sire bond one more time I will literally throw my laptop off of a bridge.

UNDERHYPED CHARACTER: Lorenzo “Enzo” St. John

Honestly, he’s one of the one things that made the last few seasons of the show bearable. His delightful British rogue was a lovely way to fill the void that the Mikaelsons left in my heart, his devil-may-care attitude was man-made-manifest of what I was always thinking while watching the show, his BFF relationship with Damon and later Caroline was a joy to watch, and he was way too good for Bonnie.

OVERHYPED CHARACTER: Alaric Saltzman

He is marginally more bearable right now on Legacies, but he annoyed the shit out of me while he was on the first show. Does he hate vampires or is he best friends with them? Does he want to be a hunter or does he want to stay away from anything supernatural of any kind? Also, he (along with nearly everyone else) basically guilted Caroline into carrying his magical siphoner babies, which is a touch too icky for me…

SHIP YOU WOULD SELL YOUR SOUL FOR: Delena (Damon and Elena)

Could it be anyone else? I never shipped Stelena, as I found both Stefan annoying and Elena too woe-is-me while she was with him. She made Damon want to be a better person and he made her embrace who she really was, monster and all. They had a perfect balance between themselves, and it was a joy to watch. He got the girl, guys.

SHIP YOU JUST WERE’N THAT INTO: Steroline (Stefan and Caroline)

They were just too…meh. I was entirely uninterested in them, whatsoever, and isn’t that even worse than a ship that you hate? I used their scenes for a bathroom break or to get a snack, as I was guaranteed to miss nothing interesting or important while they were on screen.

CHARACTER YOU LOVE TO HATE/FAVORITE VILLAIN: Kai Parker

What does it say about me that all of my favorite characters are violent psychopaths…? I’m just going to leave that to be unpacked with the future therapists I’m bound to hire. Kai was the perfect evil. He was powerful, purposeful, and unapologetically demonic in the very best way. I could watch him terrorize my favorite characters forever and not get bored. Perfection.

FAVORITE STORYLINE: Stefan and Damon’s Brotherhood

If you don’t think this is what the show was about at it’s core, you’re wrong. They loved each other, they hated each other, they died for each other, they killed for each other, and, ultimately, they let nothing and nobody come between them. If you asked me who Damon loved more, Elena or Stefan, I COULD NOT answer you, and isn’t that just the fucking point?!

STORYLINE WE COULD’VE DONE WITHOUT: Magical Babies

I know that a major reason this was even a storyline is because Candice Accola got pregnant, but still…how? Like…she is a vampire..? She is unable to biologically change…? Like can someone grab me a biology textbook and explain how this a thing that can happen BIOLOGICALLY, please? I get that they are mythical creatures, so science doesn’t mean much here, but it just doesn’t make sense in any universe. Also, as I said above, the fact that Caroline was impregnated without her consent and then largely guilted into carrying the babies is a touch too rape-y for me…

BIGGEST PLOTHOLE: Do they go to school, or…?

Like, are they just compelling the teachers to not notice them not attending class like 90% off the time? Also, how do the people in Mystic Falls not know anything about the supernatural? Like, they aren’t subtle AT ALL so how do they keep sliding under the radar? Also, in a lesser way, how are hybrid witch/vampires a thing? Like, I thought if a witch dies (like they would have to if they become a vampire), they lose their magic…?Make it make sense, Julie!

MOST HEARTBREAKING MOMENT: Damon Dies (the first time)

Honestly one of the saddest moments in the entire series was Damon’s ghost watching Elena lose it when he doesn’t make it back from the Other Side. They were finally happy and together and they can only enjoy it for like five minutes before it goes to shit. Why, Julie??!

BIGGEST EYEROLL MOMENT: Magical Babies (again)

I try to not use something twice on this list but COME ON. This was ridiculous and I do not support this in any way. (Also this twin bullshit is still fucking annoying on Legacies, if anyone was wondering).

MOST SHOCKING MOMENT (any spit-takes?): Elena forces Kathrine to take The Cure

This was one of the moments that I literally gasped aloud. Most of the time the foreshadowing on these shows is seen from miles away, but I honestly did not see this coming at all. Also, Kathrine was basically the LAST person who wanted that cure so it’s crazy that she was the one to end up taking it and turning human.

MOST BADASS MOMENT: Kathrine kisses Damon at the end of Season 1

Like I said before, she is the original BAD BITCH of the show (not an actual Original, but you know what I mean…) and this was an amazing entry for the character who would be, largely, the villain of the series. It played on the feelings that Damon is developing for Elena, it finally introduced the person who started it all for the Salvatores, and it showed us exactly who she is at her core, and that she isn’t sorry about it at all.

SERIES FINALE SATISFACTORY LEVEL (use no words, just gifs):

OVERALL MARKS OUT OF TEN (10 being this show has changed your life for the better, you happily rewatch the series over and over, and the show has made your life better in some way. 1 being this show gave you nothing but trust issues, a stomach ulcer, and high blood pressure, and you honestly do not know why you did this to yourself)

7 out of 10.

I look back on The Vampire Diaries with the kind of fondness that only comes from a bizarre mix of nostalgia and incredulity. When scenes from this series show up on my instagram feed or on my Youtube recommended page, an involuntary smile creeps across my face without me realizing. I could do without like half of the characters and some entire seasons were completely unnecessary to watch, but it gave me some of my very favorite characters and ships, and spawned an entire universe that I still enjoy to this day. This magical, crazy, beautiful world was a joy to experience, even when it made me want to beat my head against a wall at least once per season.

okay i’m not bitter about it bc it’s been years but if the originals hadn’t had a spin off tvd could have gone something like this and i’m just saying it would have been epic:

the stefan x elena x damon love triangle would have gone on until about season 6 until damon and bonnie “died” and elena wiped her memories and etc etc, became human etc, but moved on with stefan, stefan took the cure to be with her, they both get to live the rest of their lives happy with adorable babies

damon figures out he doesn’t actually mind that much because he and bonnie develop A Thing during the prison world, b.amon endgame.

liv gets to stay alive, tyler ends up with her, they’re happy and he never stops getting his ass handed to him

hayley and tyler reconcile, become bffs again, travel the world and help out struggling wolves

klaus x caroline closure / traveling the world / being epic

season 5 - 6 love triangle between stefan x rebekah x matt, rebekah ends up getting to take the cure and she and matt get to live happy, normal lives, they have a ton of kid ,rebekah coaches cheerleading, she gains SO MUCH JOY from regular mundane things, matt loves her for it

for a hot minute there would be a slight love triangle between elena x elijah x katherine, she goes back to the salvatores, elijah + katherine reconcile, she Greatly Enjoys irritating the rest of the mikaelson family

there is a SUPER SPECIAL BONUS EPISODE where you get to see finn and sage meet in the afterlife ( let me have this one. )

freya still comes into the picture towards the end, idk how idk those circumstances, but she and bonnie become the witch brotp of the century and they both teach one another magic and we get badass witch moments

jeremy gets to live his life far away from mystic falls, he goes to art school, he gets a golden retriever

a/n: well, here is another fluffy fanfiction crossover story. This time all human. Since I am a huge fan of the vampire diaries - kind of always do crossovers with them.

As of recent I really started to like the character of Nick Amaro from Law&Order_svu, played by Danny Pino. I also love him as Miguel Galindo in Mayans MC... and so, in this story - paired with Elena Gilbert, of course, my favourite female character.

"The conversation ended really bad," Elena said to Caroline, "I can't breathe- I have this pain here"

The brunette put her hand on her chest.

"Elena-now you are exaggerating. You said the same thing when you broke up with Matt." Caroline was blunt with her oldest friend.

"This is different. I thought he was the one." Elena tried to make her point why she was so upset.

"Guys sleep around,you know that. Maybe not all, but - Damon is such a guy-ok-where is your bag, your keys? Come on we need drinks. Lots of Martinis! "Caroline helped her friend put her jacket on. Elena wiped her tears off.

"Come on, get into the car" The blonde huffed a bit.

Elena could not say no to her and she didn't want to. She needed her friends beside her and she knew that, even though they could not make the heartache magically go away, they will do everything to make her feel a bit better.

They drove off to a place called Liberty Park. Elena put her sunglasses on, to hide her puffed up eyes. She felt a throbbing headache now set in.

"A walk in the park and some air will help", Caroline chatted away, "so tell me- you went to his place and she opened the door"

"Yes - and he was like - oops, sorry - this here - Krystal being there - it just a mistake- I love you like crazy, yadda, yadda, yadda-URGH-sure he loves me like crazy- and then sleeps with her?!" Elena inhaled sharply now and Caroline could notice that anger was taking over. It was good. Anger was the first step of starting to deal with the situation. Or maybe not. But, at least she was not crying anymore.

"Anger is good. Let it all out." Caroline said in a supportive kind of a tone, continuing, of course with questions, "And so what did you tell him? Why did you get into the fight in the first place?"

"Well, about her! Whenever she calls, he just goes over to her place. I know that they have a kid,-and now I will sound like a bitch- and I love the boy! You know me. I love kids. I want to have at least three-huh"

"Maybe, she staged everything?!" Caroline then said.

"No, he actually admitted sleeping with her!" Elena said.

"Really?" Elena nodded, "Stefan said they broke up because she wanted time off to herself. She kicked Damon out, right?!"

"I think that he has never really stopped loving her. And they have a five- year old kid - and what was I thinking?!"

"Stop that. You fell for him. And it's not the end of the world. Come on now, you need a Maritni. I know I do!" Caroline now urged her to go to their favourite bar that was not far from the park.

To give Elena much needed girly support, Caroline now called their other three friends to join them. Dialling Rebekah Mikaelson's number first.

"Rebekah?! Yes, if you can-of course we are- will call Bonnie-can you call Yemaya?-Good-Yep-See ya."

"I want pizza and and a big load of Martinis, so I can forget everything!" Elena said as they sat down at a table.

Caroline now told the waiter to keep the Martinis coming.

Elena was a sensitive creature, full of dreams, pure emotion, a sweet soul. Caroline was a very pragmatic one, strong, very opinionated, but with a heart of gold. And she would do anything for her bffs, but also for all those who suffered in any way. No wonder she got a law degree.

"Why me? I loved him" Elena now ventured into the self pity zone.

"You just fall in love- and put all heart out there!" Caroline stated, "and usually with the wrong guys- just like me! But you will be cured. Bonnie will get the pizza. I'll give her a call."

Whenever there was a heartbreak, problems at work or family problems, the five would meet no matter what it was, they made a pact to be there for one another. But they also found time to get together to have a good time as well.

"Breathe now, Elena!" Rebekah said as she arrived a bit later, hugging her friend. "You will forget him! I promise you! Tomorrow it will be- Damon, who!?"

The waiter now served them another round of cocktails.

"Cocktails and pizza, seriously?" Bonnie said as she finally arrived.

"Elena wanted pizza?!" Caroline explained.

"Nevermind. What did you get?" Rebekah now said and opened the pizza box.

"Extra cheese and pepperoni" Bonnie replied.

"Perfect! Caroline said taking a slice.

"It's kareoke night!" Bonnie looked at the board near the bar, adding, "Yemaya will be late. She has to finish her article!"

"I don't know why she won't come and work for me-but I guess she likes to be a serious journalist and not write about fashion." Rebekah remarked taking a sip of her drink.

Rebekah was the editor of a fashion magazine in her family's newspaper empire. She and Caroline met in college and struck a friendship immediately. Bonnie became friends with Elena and Caroline in senior high as she moved from a small town from the north. Yemaya was Bonnie's cousin on her father's side.

The only one of them that had a steady relationship was Bonnie, dating Rebekah's brother Kol. The other women had loads of heartbreaks behind them and knew exactly how Elena felt.

A crazy fun night was starting as finally Yemaya arrived at the bar.

Rebekah, Elena and Caroline entertained everyone with their kareoke night. Letting go was just what everyone needed. Noone cared about how they actually would feel in the morning. But who cared about the hangover on a working day, once in a while everything needed to be let loose.

Caroline made sure Elena got home safe and sound, tucking her into bed litterally.

"You are my best bestie" Elena muttered with a drunken cheerful smile.

"Sweet dreams!" Caroline smirked at her friend before she switched off the light.

She exited Elena's tiny apartment.

The morning arrived, or better said, lunch hour was already on for most people, when she woke up and checked at her phone. There were several missing calls with Damon's name on the display. She tossed the phone away and now tried to get up. Her head still felt woozy and she slightly regretted having way too many Martinis. She walked to the bathroom very slowly. A long shower would help as always.

Rebekah and Caroline already had met for brunch. Unlike Elena, they eased up with their drinks but were revisiting some of the scenes of the previous night.

"You could have chosen singing career. I never understood why you got into Law School." Rebekah remarked.

"My mum and dad - you she is the dective and he is the lawyer. It's good that I can let some steam out once in a while."

"Do you think she will take Damon back?! You know, Elena-she will get soft when he starts talking sweet to her"

"I don't know," Caroline said, "I really didn't get that she got into Damon. I have always thought that it would be his brother Stefan. They could talk, he was always helping her with stuff. After the break up with Matt."

"Wasn't she also going out with Tyler? He was really something. Can I guy be so full of himself?!" Rebekah said.

"Ah, don't mention Tyler. So wrong for her"

"Is there any right guy out there?!" Rebekah wondered, as she had a string of unhappy relationships and loads of one-night stands that she wanted to forget.

"Bonnie is the lucky one. I thought that Kol had already proposed. They are now four years together." Caroline changed the subject.

"I think that he is going to ask her to move in together. Well, they practically live together. One weekend they are inhis apartment, the next weekend in hers. Oh, I got news. Big news. Klaus is coming home. He is done building houses in Eastern Europe. Mother is preparing a great welcome party on Saturday. You guys are all invited." Rebekah said.

"Klaus is coming home?! His been like away-what-forever?!" Caroline remarked.

"Ten years. And so is Miguel. My adoptive brother. I guess they both had enough of being away from the family. Actually, Miguel has been back for a month now. Buy he is no party person, you know. His son Cristobal is so amazing."

"Cristobal?" Caroline asked.

“Yeah. I am so glad he is back. He is so much fun. Loves photography. He is so like his mother. And he definitely not going to be a surgeon."

"Oh, yeah -Miguel is a surgeon, right?"

"Yes. He is a cardiologist. Oh, when he and Kol get together, there is always talk of scientific research. Boring if you ask me"

"That Kol is an orthopedic surgeon, kind of still is so totally strange," Caroline stated,"you never talked about Miguel!? How come he went to live in Mexico?"

"It's a long story." Rebekah said with a sad huff.

"You said once that his wife died?"

"Yes. And he- kind of shut down. Thank God he had Cris." Rebekah now told her friend a little bit more about Miguel and how he was adopted by her father and mother when he was five years old.

Elsewhere

Elena called her shop just to let her staff know that she would be arriving late that day. Her assistant Nora told her that everything was under control and that she can take the day off.

Her phone rang again and now she swiped her call open.

"Stop calling me, Damon! I so don't want to know-I am done!!! We are done!!!!" Elena pressed the red button on the phone to click the call off.

Inhaling sharply she turned to the mirror as she was about to open the door.

"Looking good girl. You are so going to rip him out of your heart!" She put the sunglasses on and took her bag, slamming the door shut behind her.

She had no particular idea where she wanted to go. She just wanted to walk. And so she walked. Shopping was always a good option, hoping the hangover would slowly clear up.

Her phone rang and said, "Hey. I am fine, Bonnie. Just taking a walk. Maybe I will get to the shop later. Need to revise some recipes. Yes, he called. But I slammed the phone down on him. I don't really care. I am done crying. I am done with him. I am done dating. Yeah-ok-I will talk to you later"

She now put the phone in her bag and being still hangover didn't look where she was going, and as she wanted to open the door to a cafe she nearly bumped into a man who was about to do the same.

"Sorry." Elena apologized immediately.

"Oh-it's my fault- I - just-my thoughts were somewhere else. Please" the man in his forties then opened the door and let Elena get in first.

"I am usually not so distracted”

"It's fine. " the man said.

They looked at one another as if time had stopped for a moment, and they didn't know what to do next.

"Where are my manners," he then said, "Can I offer you of coffee as an apology?"

"Yes" Elena muttered. "Shall we?"

"Yeah" Elena slipped and they found a nice available table at the window. "They have great smoothies here"

"They do? You know this place very well, then?"

"Pretty much. It's like my breakfast/lunch place- strawberry is the best" Elena recommended.

"Right. I will have a smoothie then- and coffee with skimmed milk" the dapper looking man said to the shop assistant.

Elena ordered nearly the same, adding blueberry pancakes to the order.

This was something he had not done for ages, namely, inviting a woman for a drink so casually, even if it was just a harmless cup of coffee. It was as if someone or something nudged him to do it, or maybe because he saw certain saddnes in her eyes, or maybe it was just Cupid doing his job of getting two people together.

"I was at a party last night - and kind of had one too many-and need all this to wake up." Elena explained all the food that arrived.

"It must have been some party" the man he said politely.

"I am not usually doing this in the middle of the week- but-it was something out of the ordinary."

"You don't have to explain."

"No, I know. So-what is it that you do?" Elena now took notice that he was wearing a very expensive business suit and his whole aura gave out that he was a very professional man.

"I am a cardiologist. I work at the University hospital."

"Oh, right. I’m a pastry chef." Elena said.

"Ah, so you are very well versed in the sugar department" the man nooded watching at the brunette in a sweet way.

"Yes. I own a shop called Lena's Cookies in the the Linden street."

They chatted some more about her work until a phone call interupted them. He apologized saying that he had to take a call. But soon, Elena's phone went as well. It was Caroline. Elena now told her friend where she was, but nothing about who she was with.

"I am so sorry." the man said as he returned to the table. "This was my son. I will have to leave now, but it was very nice meeting you-?" In all that initial confusion they had not introduced themselves to one another.

"Elena!"the brunette said.

"Mike! Nice to meet you, Elena." Miguel said with a little smile, excusing himself.

"Mike." Elena muttered to herself as she sat down at the table again and dreamily sipped down her coffee.

Joel Goran x reader

Ft. Klaroline and other TVD/TO characters, as well as Saving Hope characters.

TVD- Saving Hope crossover

a/n: Joel Goran meets the Mystic Falls/NOLA gang. But it is totally AU- Klaus Mikaelson is a surgeon, and so is Y/N and Caroline Forbes.

There is a lot of drama- quite a lot going on. LOL. I hope you enjoy it. I so appreciate you all reading it. xoxo 💕😘

Joel listened to his voice mail- the message from Y/N.

"Hey, it's me. What happened to you? Why are not answering my calls? I guess things didn't go good. Ok. I guess you need alone time."

Joel now made a painful sigh, and played the message again and then flashed back to about what had happened half an hour before.

Flashback

Joel and the woman he had picked up from the bar crushed on the bed. And as she started pulling his T-shirt off of him, Joel suddenly stopped her and now got up, straightening the T-shirt, gulping.

"I- don't - want this! I am sorry- this is a huge mistake. I got to go."- Joel now stumbled out of the hotel room.

As he got out of the hotel, he walked down the road, his head thumping violently. He waved a taxi and soon he was on the way to his apartment.

He now pressed the speed-dial and Y/N answered -

"Are you ok?"

Joel gulped feeling terrible.

"I am ok."- he replied-"I just - needed time to myself like you said."

"So, you didn't managed to- get to any kind of agreement?"- Y/N asked.

"Can we talk about it tomorrow?"- Joel said.

"Sure. I will see you tomorrow."

"Thanks."- Joel said.

"Hey. It's ok. All of it is kinda not an easy thing for you."

"Yeah"- Joel muttered.

It was clear to Y/N that something much deeper went on and she now said a little see you and they both hang up.

At Rousseau’s

Caroline waved a little at Oliver with a little smile. As she walked over to the bar, her mind now played the call she had picked up earlier.

Flashback

Seeing Klaus’ name on the display, Caroline made a mental sigh and trying to keep it cool, answered the call with a small yes.

“I thought - that - I will see you- thank you - for the card.”

“I was - so busy- Jo has just piled up so much work and - yeah- it’s so good to - you scared us all.”- Caroline said.

“Like my sister said - I am no race car driver- I am better at mending people. Ah - I know that your shift is over - nurse Trevor told me- I know visiting hours are over - ”- Klaus said.

Caroline now drew a long deep breath trying to keep her tears at bay. Oh, she was so wanting to visit him, everything, but - there was this big BUT - and hearing his voice now half hope half anguish, calling her name-

“Caroline?” and then remembering all the stress Camille had already caused, with a heavy heart, she now replied-

“I - can’t- ahm- my date is waiting for me. Yeah- you now think of getting better”

“Date-ha?”- Klaus muttered with a broken voice.

“Yeah. I got to go.”- Caroline said adding a little see ya, and hung up.

“Beer?”- Oliver now asked, and Caroline nodded and added “ and a shot of Tequila.”

“Right. I see that Dr Parker has really got it in for you”- Oliver now said.

“Yeah - we go way back - and there is no love lost there”- Caroline said and now downed the shot of Tequila as the bartender served her drink-”but can we forget about the hospital. I got the next 12 hours free and I just want to unwind and so do all the things that are so not work - maybe do some other kind of work- anyway - I want to know more about you.”

“All right.”- Oliver now said-”what do you want to know?”

“Can you sing?”- Caroline now said.

“Can I sing?”- Oliver was surprised to hear that question.

“Yep. Let’s do a duet.”- Caroline now took hold of the Attending’s hand and walked him to the karaoke machine.

He had heard that Caroline was a fiery ball of fun, but now he had to experience it for himself.

The other thing Caroline was so good at was getting a party started and get the bar on their feet. She let herself go. To forget and try to turn over the new leaf. And even though her heart burnt and ached for someone else, hours later as Oliver took her home in his car, she kissed him and said-

“For date 1 - this was really mad. So, what are we doing on date 2?”

“I don’t know. I know I will have to somehow top this”- Oliver said.

“You have 24 hours to think about it.”- Caroline said and slipped out of the Attending’s car.

In the hospital, Klaus looked at the card Caroline left for him, feeling like the world had just crushed down as he had just heard from the nurses commenting that Dr Queen has asked Dr Forbes out on a date.

The next day, Joel was paged early in the morning and went to hospital. As soon as he finished he went to find Y/N, who had just gone to the OR herself.

"Can you please call me the minute she is finished"- he said to one of the nurses at the hub.

He had other patients to attend and finish some paperwork. He did all like a robot, his mind evidently in different universe.

Vincent, who called him up to the ER, having noticed Joel not being himself.

"Don't tell me there is trouble in paradise?"- Vincent joked a little, to which Joel nodded somewhat.

"I thought you found the one? Don't tell me you messed this up?"

Joel was quiet.

"Seriously? I can't believe it."- Vincent said.

Joel's phone rang and it was the nurse telling him Y/N finished in the OR.

She waited for him at one of the examination rooms.

"Hey"- Y/N now smiled a little at Joel, walking over to him placing a little kiss on his lips. Joel kissed her back and then taking her hands looked at her seriously now saying-

"I have to tell you something."

Him being deadly serious and edgy, Y/N's stomach suddenly churned with a hollow pain.

"What?"- she slipped her face now changing expression into deep worry.

Joel sighed a little and then told her briefly how his talk with Alex went, him ending up in a bar, and picking up the woman, going with the hotel she was staying at, and - him walking out of the hotel room. As he finally said- nothing happened, Y/N, who was first in a strange haze now slapped him hard across the face.

"I should have known. HUH- my head said no, but my heart said- yes, give him a chance. Love him, teach him to be loved. But, you don't deserve to be loved"- the words went right through him, feeling like she had slid the knife in his heart and twisted it.

She wanted to go on, as she now felt strange kind of anger wash all over her, but her phone rang and it was Alaric, so she answered, walking away from Joel.

As he tried to call her and talk to her later, she ignored all his calls and avoided him. Luckily, she was not in his team that day or the following, and the days after that. And no matter how much he tried to talk to her, she ignored him. Y/N found refuge at her best friend Bonnie, trying to nurse her bruised heart.

"If�� we look at this technically- he didn't actually sleep with her."- Bonnie said.

"No, but - it's the intention that kills me. He kissed and he went with her to her hotel room, and- what is wrong with him? Does he not have real feelings? I know he is messed up- but- he just had a talk with Alex and - he- what? Flipped his emotions and - I don't know what to think. Well, I am the one who is so stupid. He cheated on Alex with me. Why would he be any different to me?"

"We know he has problems with love- and emotions and- I think that - in a very strange way- he is doing this to hurt himself. This may sound strange. But it is like- when there is something good - he kind of self-harms.It sounds crazy but - yeah- that's what it is. It is a conduit for release from emotional stress. It makes him feel better in the short term, that's true. However it can cause emotional damage because the person becomes addicted to the relief that the harm brings and then just gets stuck in a cycle. I think Joel has that problem. But I might be wrong, but - sleeping with other women - is kind of a pattern. Some cut themselves - he- well, you know-"- Bonnie said.

"Makes sense."- Y/N now said-"But I just- can't deal with it- not right now. I am-"

"Hurt, angry."

"Yeah. He needs to get better first, before - if we ever- get - a new chance. I don't know. I feel- huh, I told him that he doesn't deserve to be loved."- Y/N now remembered what she had said to him.

"Well, I don't know what to tell you, but you- two need to talk."- Bonnie said-"no communication is not good. You know it."

"You are right."- Y/N said and then grabbed her phone now dialing Joel's number. It went straight to voice mail.

"He is probably in the OR. He is on-call today. Ok. I am going over to the hospital. Thank you."

"What are bffs for!"- Bonnie said-"and whatever happens, I hope it works out for both of you."

Y/N now hugged her best friend and then left.

An hour later

Joel, Alaric, Alex and Vincent were paged to the ER- and they were there hands on.

"There has been a shooting outside the Coffee Bean."- they were told and soon those who were injured were rolled in.

And as Joel now got to deal with one of the patient, his eyes now froze as his eyes set on a sight he couldn't believe he was seeing.

Y/N was rolled in.

In a nano second Vincent, and Alex now crossed their looks with Joel, who was screaming with his eyes- NOOOOOOOO.

Y/N was wheeled away to the OR, and Joel, had turned to the patients in need of help.

Caroline, who was summoned as well, and finding out her sister was shot, was completely beside herself, but as a professional surgeon she had to assist and she did the best as she could to help others letting the Attendings do their job and save her best friend.

A few hours later, Joel, waited in front of the OR where Y/N was still operated on-

Charlie, one of the General Surgery Attendings now went out of the OR

"Tell me, Charlie!"- Joel said with trepidation coursing his heart.

"It's very critical."- Charlie said-"All we can now do is- pray."

Joel shook his head in disbelief. A few days before he had it all. And now - everything turned around like the end of the world was nigh.

Joel walked in the ICU room where Y/N was brought to. He sat down on the bed, and looked at the woman with his heart clumped up in pain, his stomach aching with regret for having hurt her. He loved her, it was the holy truth.

"Please, you have to get through this. I refuse to lose you.I have never wanted to hurt you. Ever. Please, Y/N. I love you so much. I never loved anybody like I love you. You may not believe it, but it is the truth. Please, fight. You can do this. Please, don't leave me."

Joel now took the Maori pendant that he gave her for her birthday and put it on the side table.

"I love you."- Joel said bending down to kiss her.

Days that followed, were filled with anguish. Caroline and all Y/N’s friends were there around the clock, sitting with her friend, praying, hoping that she would wake up and come back to them.

Y/N’s aunt Jenna that came down to from New York and sat with Y/N nearly all the time she was allowed to. Caroline practically lived in the hospital. Joel had also spent every free time he could find with Y/N, meeting Jenna at one point.

"Caroline said- you were Y/N's last boyfriend? Attending, no more no less. I hear you are a cowboy casanova?"

Joel could only imagine where the name came from, and now made a face saying- that it was a bit exaggerated.

"Caroline also said that you have sat with her the whole night after they brought her out of the OR and wouldn't leave her sight."- Jenna continued.

"I did."- Joel said-"and if it ok, I came to sit with her now, and read to her."

"I have also heard about your ex-ex- girlfriend being pregnant"- Jenna continued.

"What is this? A third degree?"- Joel now asked.

"You can call it that. Look, I know that those two can look after themselves, and I am not a great example of a mom, but - this is somewhat a bigger complication Y/N had ever found herself in. So, if you plan to stick around, and make amends, you better mean it- or- just be a man and walk away."- Jenna said, and seeing Alaric now went to him.

Joel got in the room and sat on the chair, opening the book.

"I never read poems. I mean I did, in school, but not- like this, to someone. I got this book from a patient, who- well, she heard that my girlfriend was not well, and she reckons if I read this to you, you will wake up. Because it comes from the heart. It comes from mine. Ok, here we go"- Joel now randomly opened a page.

It was frustrating to see her there laying like the Sleeping Beauty, and there was nothing any of them could do but wait.

Joel now descended again in his thoughts. He wished he could go back in time and change so many things. But now he made one wish. He wished Y/N would wake up and she was fine.

Klaus, having heard about Y/N being shot from one of the nurses, now asked one that came into his room to wheel him to the special ICU area where Y/N was at.

As got there, he now stumbled upon Caroline kissing Oliver bye for the day. The sight made his heart now quiver. He could not fault her, as he had broke it off with her, even though, deep inside he had regretted it from the moment she had walked away from him that particular day.

And now, he saw that she had moved on. Kissing Oliver Queen openly, meant they were in a relationship.

"Can we go back?"- he said to the nurse now, but Caroline saw him and him turning now away from her would not have been right.

"Hey"- Caroline said as she now came up to him.

"Hey."- Klaus said back now asking the nurse if they could be left alone for a second.

"Of course, Dr Mikaelson."- the nurse said and looked at Caroline.

"It's ok. I will see that Dr Mikaelson gets back to his room."

The nurse left and Klaus now asked how Y/N was doing and said how sorry he was that she was going through this as he knew that Y/N and her were like sisters.

Caroline thanked him for his concern and now filled him in on Y/N's current state. She then asked how he was doing.

"Walking still presents difficulty, but I am determined to get on my feet as soon as I can. And back to work."- Klaus said.

"I am surprised you are still in the hospital."- Caroline now said.

"I prefer to be here than home. Too many women stressing over me. Here I have peace and quite. I am more at home in the hospital than at the family house"

"I get that."- Caroline said- and then with a small gulp. She then wanted to go look for a nurse to take him back to his room, but Klaus took hold of her hand and Caroline stood still for a second, looking at him, trying hard to keep it together.

"I see you- are- I hope he is good to you."- Klaus said referring to Oliver.

"What?"

"Nothing."- Klaus sighed a little and then said-"Oliver Queen is a good guy."

It's weird how everyone says that tvd hates it's female characters. I always looked at tvd/to as representing great feminism. Like all of the female characters have some type of badassery in them. But then I came on here and everyone started saying how tvd treats it's female characters very badly.

TVD and TO’s writing is embedded in misogyny (with the poc females getting it worse) and therefore so are most of the ships.

Elijah Mikaelson x Elena Gilbert

AU TVD/TO short story

a/n: Elena and Elijah worked together in a Law Firm. One night he hooked up with her friend Hayley, and continued seeing her. Elena, had always secretively loved Elijah, but never told him how she felt. Hayley fell pregnant and Elijah married her, and Elena went to live in Toronto, accepting a better job, but also to forget Elijah. Will life bring them together?

Days after

And, so Elena kissed her daughter goodbye and flew away to New York for a long weekend of elaborate parties surrounding Caroline and Klaus' wedding.

Straight from the airport, she was taken to the Bachelorette party and so the fun began. And it was a girly extravaganza. Everyone knew that Caroline's parties were to be remembered for centuries if not millenia.

The next morning, Elena woke up with a big hangover. A song still banging in her head from the night before. She realized she was in Caroline and Klaus’ new house, but at that moment all she wanted to have a shower and check her messages and coffee. A double mokkachino

As she got ready and made sure all was fine with her daughter, she ventured down to find the kitchen. She could hear someone shuffling some papers and as she got in the kitchen, she stood still as if she got trapped in some strange vacuum space.

"Elijah?!"- she let out in a half breath.

"Elena! Hello there!"- he said giving her a little smile.

Elena stood like someone had completely taken her whole being from this plane and entered it somewhere in a hazy dream world, and yet it was a reality that kicked her like the ice storm. And if she was to come back a 1000 times and it would always be the same.

"Hello"- she uttered with a mental gulp.

"Morning, love!"- Klaus said to a very groggy Caroline, who had just opened her eyes, still not clear if this was reality or dream.

"Mornin’"- she uttered faintly rubbing her eyes. Then as if stung by bee she sat up all in panic.

"OMG!!"- she said getting up looking for her robe.

"What's up?"- Klaus looked at her aaonished with her sudden frantic behaviour.

"What's up??!!"- Caroline looked at herself in the mirror- her make up was smudged and her hair all fuzzy. She rushed to the bathroom to take it off, she clued Klaus in on why she had gone slightly mad-

"I totally forgot that Elijah had come to stay with us last night!"

“Yes - so?”-Klaus looked at Caroline gone out.

"Ok, ahm- well, it's Elena"- Caroline now told Klaus why she was so flustered about Elena meeting Elijah and why she went to Toronto and that all these years she had to keep the lid on everything concerning Elijah as if he never existed.

"She had it that bad??"- Klaus was surprised.

"Sometimes people fall for the unavailable guy and they try to shake it, but it just won't go away"- Caroline said.

"I know that you are terribly romantic and I love you for it, but- I think you are blowing it out of proportion!"

Klaus now took his bride to be by the waist pulling her towards her, kissing her.

Meanwhile in the kitchen

Caroline was right about the impact Elijah would have upon Elena. Seeing him so unexpectedly hit her like an avalanche and her hello was accompanied with a problem in her air supply as if something got stuck in her throat.

She went straight to the counter and finding a glass in the cupboard, she poured herself some water from a water dispenser.

"Are you all right?"- Elijah inquired.

"Yeah, fine"- Elena reassured him after she took a few sips -"just dehydrated- one cocktail too many-it was Caroline's last night of freedom, you know- we let loose-"

"It must have been a really good night!"- Elijah said-"sit down, I will make fresh coffee and scrambled eggs?"

"Yeah, ahm-you don't have to.Coffee is more than enough!"- Elena said.

There he was, being this great guy, considerate, sweet, and the heart she had switched off, screamed at her reason to let it beat again. No. Stop it, Elena. But, I can't. You have to, Elena. Loving him has given you nothing but heartache, remember.

"Here you are"- he served her the espresso and a toasted bagel.

"Thanks"- Elena said-”Ok - ahm - so you are - here - early- though it’s none of my business.”

“Oh, I sold the loft. And haven’t found anything yet. Had to move out, and Klaus and Caroline offered to stay with them- till I buy something.”- Elijah explained as he sat down.

“Right. I am sorry - for having asked -”- Elena bit herself for asking why he was there.

"So, how is Toronto? You just left and forgot that we existed! If it wasn't for Caroline we wouldn't know anything about you?! So, you had a daughter, I hear!?"

Caroline kept him informed-Elena thought. And he cared to keep up with all surrounding her.

"I did"- Elena replied-" she is one and a half"

"Still can't picture you as a mom, I thought that career was everything for you!"

"Not everything"- Elena now said as she took a sip of the coffee.

"Sorry, I just-you were so dedicated to work and having accepted to head Maxwell's legal team. I didn't mean to say that-I put my foot in it!"-Elijah was apologetic.

"Hey- it's fine. I still love my work a lot, and am juggling both. Enzo is a great dad -and we have a nanny, too."

"So, Enzo - I was wondering who would sweep you off of your feet after all"- Elijah said.

As he said that, Elena felt as if there was no oxygen for a moment yet again.

"Enzo and I -we were just together with like no strings and then I got pregnant. He is a great guy, but- that's it."- Elena explained- "Ah,I am sorry, Elijah- I heard about Hayley- ahm- we used to be bffs -but- it just- there is no excuse- I should have called to tell you when Caroline told me - I am sorry."

"Yeah- ahm- thank you."- Elijah said. He moved the plate. And awkwardness descended between them.

Elijah felt that Elena was holding back and he didn't remember her as such. And his instinct told him that it was the talk of loss and grief that would make people become silent, so he changed the subject asking her about Jen and if she had a photo of her.

"Yes- of course- like thousands. Here."- she now opened the gallery icon on her phone and loads of photos of her daughter sprung up.

Caroline and Klaus appeared in a bit and joined in the conversation, gushing over the photos of Jen and then talked kids. Caroline saying she wanted at least three. Klaus was all wide-eyed. They then all teased him. As they finished breakfast, both Caroline and Elena went to get dressed as Caroline said that they still had tones to do till her wedding day on Monday.

In an hour or so, they were out. And as soon as they got out of the house and Caroline now was apologizing for the fact that she hadn't mentioned that Elijah would also be staying at the house.

"I should have warned you, but- it was just crazy the last few days, plus you banned me to talk about him, remember!?"'

"It's fine"- Elena said.

"Seriously, it's fine???!!! You are kidding me, right??!!"- Caroline now ripped into Elena not believing what she was hearing- " It didn't kill you seeing him????"

"Kill? Caroline?!!"

"Right- wrong choice of words! Hey, but you are breathing!! So, you're fine?!? No stomach butterlies? No heart bleeding??"-Caroline continued digging.

Elena stopped, looked at the sky, taking a breath and then looked at Caroline- and Caroline concluded for her friend-

"You are not over him!!"

Elena sighed -"Huh- what is this!? I wish I could cut my heart out and then it would be done or get hypnotized to hate him!!"

"It doesn't work that way!!"- Caroline said.

"Right! This weekend is about your wedding! And that's all we are going to focus on!!"-Elena said decisively.

"Elena, you're shutting down again!"-Caroline nearly screamed at her.

"I hope they still have those yummy doughnuts with caramel topping!"-Elena said and now carried on walking. Her phone rang and it was Bonnie, who was already waiting for them in their favourite café.

Caroline was fuming inside because of Elena's resolve, but there was nothing she could do at the moment. They had always respected each other's wishes, even though they were not in agreement with it at times.

And the weekend carried on with the grand Mikaelson family dinner with other of their friends and collegues. Elena and Elijah acted as friends, as they always had done when she still tworked for the Mikaelson's. It was Caroline who now started plotting with Bonnie how to break Elena's defences. She was happy and she felt the need to make two people she cared about be happy too.

That evening

"Here is to you surviving the Mikaelson dinner- do you know that this now makes you family?!"- Elijah said to Elena handing her a glass of champagne.

"Really? How?"- she took the glass off of him.

"You are the Maid of honour!"- Elijah said.

"I didn't know this makes us family?!"- Elena chuckled a bit. Inside she was burning with thousand knots making her stomach churn. She wanted to escape and not move away from him ever - all this was playing like a mad tug of war in her heart.

She didn't want to get drunk, as she knew she could not trust herself with him. She put the glass away after a tiny sip.

"So, can I see your speech?"- Elijah said.

"My speech? Isn't that your responsibility?"- Elena shot at him.

"Yeah, and I am stuck with it- I wish he asked Kol to be his best man- all this just brings memories"-

"Your wedding- you must miss her, especially on occasions like this"- Elena then said.

"No.- Elijah said somewhat in a cold manner which came across a tad bit unusual. Elijah sipped the champagne down and then put a strange sour smile on.

Instinctively, Elena put her hand on his arm as if she understood the raging mix of emotions that were underneath the pleasant self-assured exterior.

He looked at her and the look streamed unrest but a dear familiarity saying that she knows the way he feels and that she was there for him.

and then Elena's phone rang and she pulled her hand away now looking at the display-

"Enzo-"- she said- "I have to take this"- and she walked away so she could talk.

Elijah stood looking at her as she walked out onto the balcony. Rebekah was not far seeing the moment Elena and Elijah shared.

"Flirting with the maid of honour- I saw you- don't deny it- "- Rebekah teased.

"Who is denying it"- Elijah said back at his sister.

"Oh! Really?”- Rebekah smiled-”Good for you.”

“We have always been- friends. She never really saw me as - you know. She was always into bad boys with motor bikes and leather jackets. I am not her type.”

“Oh, please. If we put you in a white T-shirt, jeans, and leather jacket - she would not know what hit her.”

Elijah now smiled at his sister- “What is this? Since when do you play match-maker?”

“Since I saw the way you looked at her”- Rebekah said-”You are so into her.”

“Don’t do anything. I warn you.”- Elijah said to his sister as he knew what she was like.

“Oh, come on, Elijah. Caroline said that she is available.”

“And lives in Canada.”- Elijah now said-”and - I just don’t know - just let it be, all right?”

“Ah, all right.”- Rebekah puffed away, and as Stefan Salvatore now stopped dancing with Lexi Branson, the blonde Mikaelson now trailed off to grab him for the next dance.

Elijah sipped away his Champagne and now went to the balcony, finding Elena having finished her conversation.

“Everything all right?”

“Yes. They lost Mrs Cuddles in the park and Jen was playing up, not wanting to fall asleep without it.”- Elena replied.

“That’s a major crisis.”- Elijah said.

“It so is.”

“I hope there is a good substitute.”- Elijah now asked,

“Enzo went to buy the same teddy, but, unfortunately, nothing can beat the Original -”

“So, that’s it? Is there anything that console her?”

“I am afraid not.”- Elena said-”but - life does that and - she will have to somehow get over it.”

“You are harsh.”

“No. Just realistic.”- Elena said-”There is one remedy. Enzo will play her favourite lullaby on his guitar till she falls asleep.”

“He plays a guitar - “- Elijah now said taking another glass of Champagne from the waiter that just by.

“You played a piano once - at the Christmas party?”- Elena now remembered.

“Yeah, I did. You remember that?”

“Yes. You were good.”

“I don’t know. Must have had too much Bourbon.”- Elijah said.

And as they walked now slowly back in, a woman now came rushing towards Elijah, and taking hold of his hand.

“Sorry, but - we need you to referee this.”

And she dragged him now away, leaving Elena behind. She could see him shrugging his shoulders as - sorry, but Elena waved it off as ok. Being joined now by Bonnie and Damon, she tuned to them.

“I am tired.”- Elena now said and asked them if they would drive her back to Caroline’s house.

A few days after

Elena put her headphones on as the plane took off. She closed her eyes and only one picture kept repeating in her head.

Flashback

"Dance?" - Elijah asked Elena after Klaus and Caroline finished with their wedding dance.

She accepted hand and they walked out to the dance floor.

"Everything all right?"- he asked.

"Yes. Why?"- Elena gulped a bit as she felt his hand sit on her back making her tremble a bit.

"It feels like you are miles away- is little Jen all right?"

"She is fine."- Elena replied -" just-" she now looked at him and stopped moving away from him- "feel sick- Sorry-" and walked away from him.

He was stunened for just a milisecond and then walked after her into the garden.

Elena rubbed her forehead a bit. Why could she not keep her emotions at check, she was mad at herself. The heart, she thought was ice, thawed the moment she saw him standing in the kitchen greeting her warmly. Him calling her name now brought her back from her thoughts. He gently touched her arm saying - "Shall I get a medic?"-

Elena turned around - "No,no- I am better- I don't know what happened- just felt faint- probably cos I hardly ate anything today"- she invented.

"Oh, we will soon remedy that. Let me get you a plate full of canapes at least for starters"- he said and disappeared.

Elena wanted to disappear herself. Bonnie had noticed them walking away and now came to Elena asking her what had happened. Elena reassured Bonnie that nothing major was happening and that she should not worry and go back to the party and as Elijah returned with a plate of food, Bonnie left them as it was clear that those two needed time to themselves and that they had to deal with emotions jumbled up. Caroline often said that Bonnie had witchy powers as she could see things noone could.

Elena took some of the food and seemed to relax a bit.

"Thank you so much"- she said-"but, seriously, you don't have to stay with me."

"You are the maid of honour -it's my duty to look after you"- he joked.

"Oh, really?"

"Caroline said so, and -"

"Caroline?!"- Elena interrupted him.

"She is the bride and you do as she says-it's her day"- Elijah continued-

"What else did she say?"- Elena said slightly peeved off.

"Nothing much-"- Elijah said casually, but Elena knew now that Caroline must have added something more.

Elena stood up declaring she was perfectly fine again and that they should return to their maid of honor and best man duty. Elijah followed her back to the party and she carried on being the exemplary maid of honour concentrating solely on that. As they saw the happy married couple leave for their honeymoon, Elena was ready to go as well.

"Right, ahm"- she turned to Elijah-"I am heading off- just wanted to tell you that it was great seeing you again."

"The pleasure was mine"- he said cheerfully-"I hope you will not continue being a stranger-"

"No"- Elena slipped.

"You owe me a dance!"- he continued.

"I guess I do"- Elena replied-"well, see you"

And then they both with yet again enveloped with awkwardness stood like enchanted in the moment and by the power of some strange force they neared one another. But both stood like frozen.

Elena now stepped back - “Ahm - bye”

“Bye”- Elijah slipped and Elena turned and walked out into the night as if midnight struck and she had to float away like one of the fairy-tale characters.

Elijah was left gazing in the night. His heart bumping a beat like it did the night they nearly kissed so many years ago.

On the plane back to Toronto, Elena played all the scenes of their meetings together. Her heart was in bigger turmoil than before. "Elijah-" she whispered to herself-"damn you!"
